Who hey, man, thank you so much, thank you so much.

You got you can ob be see that. Wow, what

a joy to be with you. And uh man, I

tell you what, this is the most interesting church I

think I've ever been to. And if you're a guest,

we're glad you're with us. I'm celebrating. In fact, let

me just say it Happy birthday. Venture And I figured,

since it is the birthday that we're all celebrating together,

I think we should need to see we need to

sing Happy Birthday.

So let's try it.

We're gonna do it together as a family. There's joining

us online where you do with us.

Ready, here we go, Happy Birthday.

Come on, look at everybody, because it's for all of us.

Happy birthday to you.

I love it.

Happy day, dear, Happy birthday.

To give yourselves a big hand.

Happy birthday everybody.

We just need the cake, right, we just need the cake.

Maybe that's tonight.

I actually heard a story about they went and asked

a teddy bear offered him a piece of birthday cake,

and you know what he said, said, I'm sorry, I'm stuffed.

Okay. I had to do something after that wrap.

Imagine trying to preach after that. In all seriousness, it

is an honor to be here. I have had the

joy of being a part of the journey with Pastor

Brannon and Passer Die all of these years, along with

the team, and while incredible what God has done here.

In fact, as I was asked to come and speak,

I began to kind of.

Think and pray about what to talk about this morning.

And you know, when you go and travel and speak,

oftentimes you'll look in your files and kind of pull

out all the best sermons that you've had and kind

of pray over those to find what you want to

speak on. But this time, as I was doing that,

I just felt like the Lord said, no, I want

to I want you to share something new, and so I'm.

Going to actually share with you something I never reached before.

And this is the rough draft, so we'll still work

on it for next service if it's not right this one.

But I felt like the Lord took me to a

passage of scripture. I've never preached on this passage before.

I've never even heard a sermon on this passage, but

I want to share it with you, and if you

have a Bible you can turn with me. We're going

to go to the book of Exodus, Exodus chapter eighteen,

and here's what it says. Moses's father in law, Jethro,

the priest of Midian, heard about God or everything God

had done for Moses and his people, the Israelites. He heard,

especially about how the Lord had rescued them from Egypt. Earlier,

Moses had sent his wife's Zaporah and his two sons

back to Jethro, who had taken them in. Jethro, moses

father in law, now came to visit Moses in the wilderness.

He brought his wife and two sons with him Verse seven.

So Moses went out to meet his father in law.

He bowed low and kissed him and ask about each

other's welfare.

Then went into the tent.

Moses told his father in law everything the Lord had

done to.

Pharaoh and Egypt on behalf of Israel.

He also told about all the hardships they had experienced

along the way, and how the Lord had rescued his

people from all their troubles. Today, I want to talk

to you on the theme look what God has done.

All I have to do is look around this room,

and you can see what God has done.

Let's pray, Holy Spirit.

I asked that you would touched this moment, I pray

somehow I would get out of the way and your

voice would be heard. That people wouldn't leave saying hey,

that was an interesting thought or a good story. But Lord,

they would leave saying, well, I think God spoke to

me today, and Lord, today we want to remember what

you have done.

So we gave you the praise, and everybody shouted, hey. Man.

You know, when I was on staff at a church

coll at I'm called Calvary Temple Worship Center, Pastor Brandon

and I were there and Pastor Brandon was a youth pastor.

I was the worship pastor.

And we used to sing an old song that went

like this, look what the Lord has done done on uh,

look what the Lord? Have I ever heard this old song?

He healed my body, he touched my mind, he saved

me just in time.

Oh I'm going, oh, praise his name.

The whole song was about looking at the faithfulness and

the goodness of the Lord. And you know, over the years,

as I've come year after year to venture, I've seen

the faithfulness of God. And today I want to take

this story, and I want to bring a few things in.

You know, I was there years ago. You know we're

talking about a birthday. I was there before there was

a birth. It was back when Pastor Brandon was pregnant.

And no, we're not talking about trans issues or in

the church where we're well, here's what we're doing. We're

going back to win. God had planted a dream in

his heart. I remember we went to lunch this little Tacorea,

San Jose, Tacorea, and we had burritos, and he told

me about the vision that God had planted in his heart,

and you could see he.

Was pregnant with the promise of God.

And now to see all these years later, how it's

grown up into what God has done.

What a blessing. And so today I want to give

you three principles from this story. As I was praying.

About it, it spoke to me, and I hope it'll

speak to you, all right. So principal number one, when

I read through this story about Jethro and Moses, here's

the first thing that came to me. And if you're

taking notes, write this down. If you're not taking notes,

write this down ready. Point Number one is simply this,

build it and they will come. Look at somebody, look

at your the person next to you, and tell him,

build it.

And they will come. Come on.

Now, turn to your second choice and tell them too,

will you build it? And they will come. Building, they

will come. It's that phrases from a movie. Field of dreams.

And they built this field. And because of what they built,

people were amazed, and they came.

And interesting when.

I was reading through this passage, and I'm just going

to keep reading it because there's things that jump out

at me. Exodus chapter eighteen says this Moses' father in law, Jethro,

the priest Omdian, heard about everything God had done for

Moses and his people, the Israelites. He heard especially about

the how the Lord had rescued them from Egypt. Jethro

sent a message to Moses saying, I, Jethro, your father

in law, I'm coming to see you with your wife

and two sons. When Jethro heard and saw what was

going on, he had to go see. And when I

was reading that, here's what's interesting. What did he go see?

He went to see a group of people that had

the presence of God. They hadn't stepped into the promised land.

Yet they hadn't officially built anything. Maybe the tabernacle, that's

about all. But what they had was they were a

community that had built up a reputation that.

God is in their midst.

In fact, a cloud went with them and led them

through the wilderness. A pillar of fire at night led

them through the wilderness. This was a representation in fact

that God was with them, the.

Presence of the Lord was with them.

And when I come to this community, here's what I see.

I see a community of people that it's not about buildings,

and it's not about, you know, some kind of ministry.

It's about the fact.

That you love Jesus, and Jesus is in the house

and his presence is in the house. And when you

come here and worship starts, you sense the glory and

the grace and the presence of Almighty God. That's the

community that's called Venture. Come on, you're with me, say man,

I mean here thankful for God's presence. It's interesting because

Israel was known for having God's presence and because of that,

Jethro said, I got to come and see it.

People showed up Venture. Listen.

Venture isn't a building. There's an old thing that they

used to do. Right, you put your hands together like

this and you put your fingers in and you say,

see the church. Am I do this in your kids?

See the church? See the what open the door and

what see all the people? Because the church?

Did you know?

The Bible says that the God doesn't dwell in temples

made with hands. He dwells in the midst of his people.

He inhabits the praises of his people. This place is

a place where God's presence is. And as you look around,

you realize that when God's presence is somewhere, people show up.

And let me just say this, people don't show up

by accident. There's a verse in the Bible, and it's

very profound. In this room, there are teachers in this room.

There are people that are involved in the marketplace and

in business.

In this room.

There are people involved in education. There are people that

are involved in.

All different kinds of avenues.

People that are serving in this church right, people that

do kids ministry, people that give financially, people that are

ushers and greeters, people that serve youth. And there are

many things. But here's what's interesting. If you read the

Book of Acts. Here's what it says. It says that

God raised up from one blood or one group of people.

Says before time God decided this is Acts chapter sixteen,

when in history you would live, and where on the

planet you would live, what your boundaries would be. In

other words, before God even created this church, God had decided.

Before this world was even made, God was already thinking

about you and where he wanted you to be.

In fact, before this church existed, God was thinking about

who do I need to send.

To start this thing, to build this thing.

You're not here by accident. God has brought you here.

He's placed you here. It makes me think of a

Hirovision church. One of the things that we're known for

as a church is our kids ministry. We have a

building that we built called kid Venture and it's literally

like Disneyland.

It's amazing.

You walk in and it's got disney esque every place

around the globe. You can go through Europe, you go

through Asia, all of these places, and there's a when

you walk into the transportation center, you get in the

ticket to go into the world.

So it's nineteen thirties like you're getting on.

On a ship to go right, and there's music playing

and sound effects.

And it's interesting.

We'd always had a vision to minister to kids in

our community. We were literally my office and the churches

across the street, our central location from Magic Mountain.

Anybody been to Magic Mountain?

And so well, like God wanted us to minister to

families from a spiritual perspective, not just from an entertainment perspective.

One day we had started Higher Vision Church. We were

meeting in a school.

I've been to venture through all of the buildings, like

Pastor Brandon said, I was back in the first school

that you went to, and then and then we went

from there to that little building that was on the

road that was two story and you walked.

In, remember that, and there was one aisle down the middle.

There was no aisles on the side because it was

so narrow, and that the ceiling was low.

And I remember that building.

I remember even the building before this one was here,

though how many remember the golf ball church?

All right? You felt like you need to bring your

clubs with you when you came and you went.

Inside, and you had to be careful because you couldn't

whisper to your wife about anything. But somebody on the

other side would hear you, because the would go all.

The way around.

I've been through all the different places and I've seen

and I'll never forget. When we started Higher Vision, we

were setting up and tearing down, and we were meeting

in a school. And one day, as a church had

just started, a man walks in and a.

Really tall guy had blonde hair. His wife was tall,

she had blonde hair.

Their two kids were boys, and they were tall and

they had blonde hair.

We called them the Blonde family.

And he came up to me and he said, Hey,

you know, I'm new, but could I take you to

lunch or to coffee? And I'm like, sure, let's go

grab some coffee. And so we were sitting there and

he began to talk to me. He said, man, I'm

amazed at this place because you know, I live across

the street from the school. And he said, I was

in my backyard and I noticed you guys setting up

and building this church thing in this school.

And he goes, I know how much work it takes.

In fact, when I walk in here, I'm amazed because

here's what I think, because I work so hard. I

work at Disneyland, and we build things. I build rides,

and I know how hard it is. And I walked

in and I thought, man, these people must really believe

in what they're doing and they must really care.

And he said, I got to asked you a question.

He said, when I walked in the building, you guys

started doing that singing thing. And when you started doing

that singing thing, I kept welling up with tears and crying.

Why And I said, well, we don't really have a

very good worship team. We're working on that. No, no,

I'm joking. I'm joking.

I said, no, no, no, what you're experiencing is the

presence of God. The Bible says that we worship him,

He inhabits the praises of his people. And we started

talking about God in his presence, and interestingly enough, it

was a good conversation.

He came back the.

Next week, raised his hand, got saved, his wife started volunteering,

and the church came on staff. And then ten years later,

when we moved into our new building and we had

a vision to help dream, you know, to help kids,

he came to me and he said, passor Jared, I

built Tunetown, I built Indiana Jones, Can I build kid Venture?

And so we built kid Venture, one of the greatest

kids ministries.

In the country. Why because God.

Didn't bring him by accident, and God hasn't brought you

by accident.

You're here because you have something to be a part of.

Building some that will house or be a place where

the glory and the presence.

Of God can come and change lives. Come on, somebody,

shout Amen, good preaching passage.

Because God's presence is here and you're not here by accident.

Maybe you missed the first twenty years. I guess what

God wants you to be a part of the story

of the next twenty years. Come and look at somebody

and say build it and they will come. The second

thing that really came to me in the story was

simply this, and that is I think God wants us

to hear this message. Spread the news, Spread the word,

because when Jethrow shows up and says, Moses father in law, Jethrow,

the priest Omitian, heard about everything God had done. He

was hearing people were talking, the word was spreading. How

many I've ever heard of it's gone viral. You've heard

the phrase it's gone viral, right, And that's where something

that happens. You hear about it and you're like, oh,

have you seen this? Check it out, and you send

them the link or and suddenly it's all over the internet.

Why because people are talking about what has happened. And

then that's what happened in this story. Jethro lived in

another place, but yet the word was spreading. Why because

people had experienced, had seen what God was doing, and

they couldn't keep it to themselves.

And the thing I think that God.

Is saying this morning to you that are here and

those joining us online, is.

That don't keep it to yourself.

Don't just go home and then say, well, next week

we'll go back. No text, somebody, tell somebody, Invite somebody,

share your story with somebody, talk about the goodness of God,

talk about the message that you heard, spread the news,

and that's what happened. Bible says in Exodus eighteen, he

ends up showing up right because of what was going on.

He heard, he heard of God's presence being there.

He shows up and then he says, Moses, I've heard,

And then what does it say?

Then Moses started to testify.

Moses told his father in law everything the Lord had

done to Pharaoh and Egypt on behalf of Israel. He

also told them about all the hardships they had experienced

along the way, and how the Lord had rescued his

people from all their troubles. Listen, sometimes it's the hardest

stories that are the best stories. I mean, we all

love a good story, right, the underdog, the adversity, the

one that overcame in the midst of the challenges, and.

That is our story. Come on, we were sinners, but

because of Jesus.

We've been saved and we've been forgiven. The Gospel is

the best story. He wants you to testify. In fact,

you realize that's how the gospel spread.

It went viral. Who was the best story?

Humanity was doomed and on their way to hell, but

God loved them, so they sent his son to the earth,

who lived a life, who died, was brutally murdered and

falsely accused, but he went to the cross. He was

put in a grave, but he didn't stay there. He

rose again. He defeated death, hell.

Of the grave, depression, sickness, fear. He rose again. And

if we'll believe in him, we can have that be

our story.

So Jesus comes, he rises, and then he tells his crew,

go viral, testify, tell of what I've done, and twelve people.

Spread the news, and here you are today. Come on.

We serve a big God who does great and mighty things. Testify.

That's how the Kingdom of God. Venture is filled with stories.

I heard an amazing one today. Hey, it's about it,

gentlemen in the church. His name is Dave Liam. He's

here and it's a story of the past, struggling with

things in his life.

Addiction. But how do we know? With God? It doesn't

stop it addiction, because he comes to set us free.

And now he's been set free. And what is he doing.

He's leading a ministry of recovery to people to get free. Listen,

God does something. We go through hardships. He takes the

difficulties of life, and what does it say? All things

can work together for the good to them who love

the Lord and are called according to his purpose. He'll

turn that situation around and take your test and give

you a testimony. He'll take your mess and give you

a message. Spread the news. God has done something for

twenty years, but he's not done yet.

The best is yet to come. Your best days are

not behind you. Your best days are before you.

Somebody shout, amen, Well, let me make one observation. Sometimes

when you hear that, hey, spread the news, testify. Here's

what the devil whispers into our heart. You're not qualified.

You didn't get a degree in Bible. You're not qualified.

Or how are you going to explain? You don't have

all the answers? What if they use that one? Well,

if God is good, then why does he let bad

things happen to good people?

And so what do we do? We shut down?

I want to give you a verse today because I

really believe one of the messages this weekend is not

just to you know, do your part, be a part, serve, give, help,

build it and they will come, but to share the news,

to testify what God has done in your life. But

oftentimes we're scared to do it because we don't have

the answers. I got a verse for you is found

in Deuteronomy, chapter twenty nine, verse twenty nine, and here's

what it says. The Lord, our God has secrets known

to know. We are not accountable for them. In other words,

you don't have to have all the answers. You don't

have to understand exactly every detail that God is doing.

But what you can do is you can say, God,

your ways are higher than my ways.

So God, I'm gonna trust in the Lord with all

my heart and lean not on my own understanding. I'm

gonna believe that you have a plan.

I'm gonna believe that you knew what you were doing

when you sent Joseph all the way down to Egypt,

but then four hundred years later they were gonna be

slaves in Egypt.

You knew what you're doing because.

You're gonna raise up a man named Moses who was

gonna come, and you were gonna show up with your presence,

and you're gonna set this group of people free, and

they were gonna be the people that were gonna let

people know who you are. God, you had a plan.

So God, I'm not gonna have every answer. I'm just

gonna share the news. I'm just gonna testify for what

God has done. She had a young girl who came

to Higher Vision several years ago.

What I didn't know is she was.

Basically contemplating committing suicide in a relationship with a guy,

and everything in her life had fallen apart.

She had no hope, and she showed up. But guess

what she met Jesus.

She gave her life to Christ and she couldn't help,

but she had to tell everybody.

She went home and the next thing I know, the next.

Week, her mother shows up at church and we give

the altar call and her mom gets saved.

They come back the next week and guess who's there.

Her dad sitting right next to her mom, which is

a big deal because they're divorced, and he gets saved.

But she couldn't keep it to herself because God had

saved her. God had stopped her from taking her life

and giving her a new purpose.

And guess who shows up next? Her sister shows up, who's.

An atheist and brings her daughter. Week after a week,

more and more began to come, and eventually she joined

our internship and went through training and went into the

mission field over and she was in Prague and.

That region doing missions for several years.

Then she came back and became our woman's pastor of

the church, and God used her to touch so many people.

She encountered God's presence and she had to share the news.

What's holding you back from your test?

Seet God? Wants you to testify. And here's why.

Because Revelation chapter twelve, verse eleven says it this way,

and they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb

and by the word of their testimony. Look at somebody

and say, just share the new Jews. Build it and

they will come. God's presence is here.

Number two. Share the news.

And lastly, I want to give you the last point

from this story, and it's simply this.

Give God the credit. Give God the credit. I love this.

At the end of Exodus chapter eighteen, verse nine through twelve,

says Jethro was delighted when he.

Heard about all the good.

Things the Lord had done. Says in verse ten, he

goes praise God. Jethro said, he has rescued Israel from

the powerful hand of Egypt. I know now that the

Lord is greater than all other gods than Jethro. Moses,

father in law, brought a burn offering and sacrifices to

God and Aaron, and then all the elders of Israel

came and joined him. You see what I love is

that when he asked Moses, like how did it happen?

I mean, what took place? How'd you do it and

he's and what did Moses say?

The Lord? It was God. I don't know.

I don't have all the answers, but God, God changed

my mind.

God, God brought the right person.

God provided just to the right I don't know how

it worked, but God, God, God was able, and God

got the credit. And the moment that they began to

look at what God had done and they realized who

God was, What did he do?

He began to thank God, and he began to.

Give God praise and begin to give God all the

credit and all the glory and all the honor.

Can I tell you something.

God will share everything with you, gifts, talents.

Favor, provision.

But the Bible says there's one thing he will not share,

and that is he said, my glory I will give

to no other.

God is looking for a church. And that's what I

love about venture. I love that.

And I walk in, I see signs and say, make

Jesus famous.

I love that. This is really about celebrating who God is.

Listen, when you have a great victory, you should have

a great celebration.

I gotta tell you.

I'm from La and there's been a lot of celebrating

going on because the Dodgers just won the World Series,

and I gotta tell you, people were honking their horns,

hanging signs, high fiving each other. I see people hugging

each other that don't even like each other. I mean,

crazy things are happening. Why Because when there's a big win,

there's a big celebration. And I think God is looking

for some people who will do what it says in

the scripture, and that is, I will bless the Lord,

oh my soul, and all that.

Is within me, I will bless this holy name. I

will bless the Lord and forget not his.

Benefits, who forgives all of our sins, who heals all

of our diseases. God is looking for some people who

will give him praise and give him the credit for.

All he has done.

What has God done for venture, for you, all the people.

God wants the credit, He wants the glory. I'll never

forget when I was in Modesto with Pastor Brandon and

I got a sad gone through the years with Pastor

brand When I first met him, he had a mullet

and an ear ring, and he was an interesting guy

when I first met him. In fact, it's a funny

story that he came in kind of talked with me

because he was interviewing, and the pastor came afterwards and

got my opinion on whether we should hire him or not.

And I was like, I was on the fence. I

just got to say I was on the fence at first.

And here we are twenty five, you know what, twenty

five years.

Later, and we're great friends and have been a part

of this journey for so long together. Man, I look

back and one of the things I remember is I

was I used to be the ship pastor at the

church that we were at. He was a youth pastor,

and we had this guy that got saved and he

was an amazing saxophone player. He used to play in

Vegas and he toured with some of the big, you know,

big dogs that he was just amazing player. And so

we had a band that kind of did a brass

section that during worship, I would write arrangements for them

and as we're singing, they would you know, play butt

up about kind of like a tower of power kind

of vibe. And so I'll never forget one time I thought,

you know what, I want to have Mike. His name

was Mike, I want to have him do a song,

and so I asked him to play the song Amazing

Grace on his you know, tenor saxophone, and so we

got up and was during the offering, and so it's

kind of like a moment where people were giving and

they kind of worship and listen.

So he starts playing Amazing Grace and he starts killing it.

I mean the place. By the time he was done,

the place went crazy. People were on their feet clap

and it was so awesome. And here this young guy

just got saved. And I remember he's used to performing

in you know, in front of clubs and concerts, and

now he's at church and people are clapping their hands

and celebrating it, and he doesn't know what to do.

So he kind of looks around the room and he

goes and when he does it, he.

Goes in the moment he does it, like he like

realizes everybody kind of cheers and he realizes, I found something,

so I'm gonna go with it.

So he just like takes it to the next level.

He's like, I mean, on his way off the stage,

this is.

What he did. I mean, he was all in.

We all laughed afterwards. But here's what I know about

the heart of your pastors and your leaders. When I

showed up this weekend. It was confirmed as soon as

I started talking to Pastor Brandon. Here's the heart of

Venture church as we look back at twenty years. Yeah. Look, well, God,

I don't know how he did it. I'm not sure

how he pulled it all together. I mean, Pastor Brandon die.

They're smart.

They got some great, amazing pastors and leaders. But come on,

how you know sometimes none of us say that good.

I think God sent me here this weekend to remind us.

I thought about thought about a story. It was about

these ten lepers. They were all gonna die. They had

leprosy and there was no cure. But suddenly they had

an encounter with God's presence Jesus, literally, his presence came

to earth. God became flesh and dwelt among us, and

they had an encounter with Jesus, and he said, I'm

going to hear you. Now run to the priest and

get checked, and go through the protocol and do all

the things you need to do, so now you can

start living life in this blessing and promise that I've

given you and the moble says that all ten of

them took off and they were running towards the priest

when one of them stopped and said, wait a minute,

and he runs back and he falls at the feet

of Jesus.

He says.

Thank you Jesus, and Jesus says, wow, this is awesome.

But weren't there ten of you?

And I know that we're excited about jumping in. We're

putting a period on twenty years, and we're excited about

jumping into the next twenty And I'm.

Excited to see what God does. It's going to be

amazing every year to show up. When you show up, I'm.

Not like the uncle who comes to the birthday.

Party, right. Can I get to see you?

Know that my niece has gotten a little bit bigger.

I love to see every year.

But I think God is wanting to remind us let's

not get caught up in all the good blessings and

all the new things, but let's take the moment to

stop on.

This birthday and say God, thank you.

If it's falling on our knees, if it's lifting our hands,

if it's taking a moment to say God, I give

you the glory, and I give you the praise for

all that you have done, for every life that's been changed,

for every marriage that's been healed, for every situation that's

taken place that you've turned around. Lord, I have one

thing I want to say, and I'm gonna do my best.

My voice is a little bit cracked, but I'm gonna

do my best to share it with you.

And it goes like this, Oh, can I say things.

For the things you have done for me? Thing so undeserved,

yet you gave to prove your love for me.

And the voices of a million angels could not.

Express my gratitude. All that I am and never hope

to be.

I owe it all.

To you, so to God.

Like I'm glad you're not a worship pastor anymore.

That was a bad note to God.

Be the glory to God.

Be the glory to God. Be the gloryy for the

things he has.

Done, because with his blood he has saved me, with

his power he.

Has raised me to God, Be the glory.

For the things he has done. Would you close your eyes,

would you lift your hands?

Would you take a moment and just say, God, I

give you the glory.

Oh, I may not be where I want to be,

But praise God, I'm not where.

I used to be because of the goodness and the

grace of God. Look what God has done, Look where

He's brought us. From God, we give you glory today

for every life that's been changed. We gave you glory

for this beautiful building that was built. We gave you

glory for the new Seattle campus that you gave us.

The building for. We give you glory, Lord, for everything

that you have done. You deserve the glory.

And the praise, all credit, all honor, and all glory

belonged to you. So because you've been good, we're gonna

keep building it. We're gonna keep showing up, We're gonna

keep serving, we're gonna keep writing checks.

We're gonna keep doing what we can do because God,

you put us here and were God. We're not gonna

keep it to ourselves.

We're not gonna take it for granted, but we're gonna

spread the news.

Thank you, Jesus. If I just say that, say thank

you Jesus.

Would you keep your guys closed and just put your

hands down. Maybe you're here and you've never been cleansed

by the blood of Jesus.

You don't know if you're going to heaven.

You're not part of that great story yet, the story

of the redeemed.

You can be today.

All you have to do is have the courage to

admit you're not perfect, to admit that you sin, because

we all sin and fall short.

That's why Jesus came. That's why it's an epic story.

He came to save the lost. But you can be found.

All you have to do is confess your sin, repent

of it, acknowledge it, and put your faith in Jesus.

be saved or you're read to become a part of venture,

a part of the body of Christ, the family of God.
