I want to welcome you to Venture Church Labor Day weekend.

Look at all of you people that had nothing to

do over Labor Day weekend. I am so blown away.

If you don't know who I am, I'm Brandon. I'm

the lead pastor of the church. I'm glad you're here

with us. If you're newer to the church and I

have yet to meet you, I'd love the opportunity to

meet you. I'll be hanging out in the lobby after

the service. If you're bold enough, brave enough, please come

up introduce yourself to me. I'd love the opportunity to

meet you. I just got back from visiting the Convoy

of Hope World headquarters in Springfield, Missouri, and I have

the shirt to prove it.

So, David Diaz, you might have noticed it.

Church is wearing leopard skin print pants. He's wearing them

on purpose. Okay, we did a post online who wore

it better me this shirt. Nothing says I support Convoy

of Hope more than being willing to wear this. So

there's a picture of me with the shirt and David

with his pants.

So I'm just humbly.

Asking for Pastors Appreciation Month that you would all vote

for me so that I can push David way way down.

As Di mentioned.

By the way, don't do it now, because I want

you paying attention. As my wife mentioned earlier, we are

in the middle of expanding this facility, and with that

expansion there are funds that we are trying to raise

by the end of the year. Our goal is to

raise nine hundred thousand dollars to finish the building by

the end of the year. We announced that last week,

and I told you that every week we would give

you an update where we're at here it is, so

after one week we have raised fifty thousand dollars. So

we still need you to be prayerfully considering what you

are going to give to help us finish this. For

those of you that are good at math, you know

that we are now one eighteenth of the way to

our completion. All right, grab your Bible's turn to Romans

chapter ten. I'm gonna start reading from verse thirteen, and

then we will pray.

These are the words of Paul.

He said, everyone who calls on the name of the

Lord will be saved. How can how then, can they

call on the one they have not believed in? And

how can they believe in the one of whom they

have not heard? And how can they hear without someone

preaching to them? How beautiful are the feet of those

who bring good news.

I want to ask everyone to buy your.

Heads, close your eyes, repeat this prayer after me. Everyone say,

Dear Jesus, speak to my heart, change my life in

Jesus' name.

Amen. Every August we.

Take a few weeks and we do a refresher course

on what the core values the venture are. We want

you to understand what we are all about. And I've

shared with you for the last two weeks that it's

not an accident that when you walk in our lobby,

the pillars that hold up the roof announce what our

core values are mission community, generosity. For the last couple weeks,

I've highlighted our value of commune unity. And today I

want to take a moment and I want us to

look at our value of Mission. Paul said this. He said,

everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will

be saved. If you've ever wanted to know if the

Bible is.

Good news, that is good news.

That is for everyone. We are all equal. There is

no discretion in the Bible. Everyone is included in the

Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will

be saved. Every one of us, we've messed up.

We're in need of a savior.

I've told you week after week for years that for

as diverse as our churches, as unique as all of

our backgrounds are, there is one thing that unites us

together in common.

And that's it. Just the right moment.

Jesus crossed our path, and when he did, he changed everything.

But Paul asks this series of very provocative questions. He says,

but how can they call on someone they've never believed in?

And how can they believe if they've never heard of him?

And how can they hear about him? And lest someone

tells them about them? And how can they go and

tell un lest someone sends them? And then he closes

this discourse with the statement, how beautiful are the feet

of those who.

Bring good news?

Are?

If you've gone to church for any length of time.

You've heard those verses before, and odds are it's always

been tied to foreign missions. It's always been used to

compel you to give to foreign missions. When we talk

mission at Venture Church, normally I talk big picture mission.

I talk about the mission, vision, purpose of the church.

I talk about the big picture. If you've ever been

through Discover before our Discover classes or for those that

are new, it leads to becoming a part of our

Venture family. It talks about all the different aspects of

who we are as a church. And when I cheach

on mission, I make this statement. I say the church

exists for mission. In other words, the church does not

exist so you find good friends. The church does not

exist so you have a safe place to put your

kids on a Wednesday night. The church does not exist

so you find a small group to participate in.

By the way, all those.

Things are super important and they're valuable, but their secondary

to the reason that the church exists, which is mission.

The church exists so.

That people who don't know Jesus can know Jesus. When

we talk about the value of mission at the church,

we oftentimes just connect our thoughts to the vision of venture,

to the purpose of venture, to the mission of venture.

And we know that we all partner together and helping

accomplish this purpose, vision and mission. But that's actually not

what I want to focus on today. I want to

ask you personally about your personal mission. Where you personally live,

where you go to school, where you work, where you

hang out, where you frequent. Just as the church exists

for mission, do you know that you exist for mission?

Do you have people in.

Your life in your sphere of influence? The phrase sphere

of influence, it means your network of personal connections, your friends,

your family, your colleagues, your classmates, your neighbors, community members,

people in your world that know you and trust to you,

your sphere of influence.

Do you have people that you know in your sphere

of influence who are hurting anyone?

Do you give people that you know that are struggling?

Do give people in your sphere of influence that are lost,

that are making bad decisions, that are lonely, that are confused?

Do you have people in your world that don't know Jesus?

Do you.

If Heaven is real, if Hell is real, if you

truly believe John fourteen six, where Jesus said, I am

the Way, the Truth, and the Life that no one

comes to the Father except through me.

If you truly believe that, and you have.

People in your sphere of influence that don't know Jesus,

those people, should they die and not know Jesus, we'll

spend an eternity separated from him. Do you truly believe

that people that don't know Jesus, that don't have a

relationship with him, that if they die, they spend an

eternity separated from him. You know, oftentimes people will come

and they'll say, you know, one of the things I

love about Venture Brandon is you don't preach about heaven

and Hell. You didn't come to that service, apparently, because

we believe heaven is hell, Heaven is hell. Uh, it's

the shirt.

It's the shirt.

We believe heaven is real, we believe Hell exists, and

we believe that people that don't know Jesus spend an

eternity separated from him. And that's not good. Bottom line.

We all know many people who if they were to

die today, they would spend an eternity separated from Jesus.

For some of you, that person lives in your home

with you.

How can they call on a Jesus that they don't

believe in, and how can they call on someone that they've.

Never heard of? And how can they.

Hear about someone the no one's ever told them about. Today,

instead of focusing on the big picture of mission, this

fall and venture has a big mission, It has a

big purpose, it has a big vision. But instead of

focusing on that, I want to talk about you personally.

I want to talk about you personally living a life

of mission. I want to give you four words of

advice on how you can live a life of mission

this fall. By the way, this is a good time

for you to take notes. This is a good time

for you to think. I need to go back and

listen to that podcast message of Pastor Brandon's again. You

should take note of these words of advice because we

all have people in our sphere of influence that don't

know Jesus, and that should concern us. I'm sharing this

today from the perspective of someone who's here today because

someone did this, because someone lived a life of mission.

I'm here today as a preacher.

Now I am.

Forever grateful that at just the right moment, Jesus crossed

my path, And when he crossed my path, I had

heard about him before, So when that moment came, I

knew He's the answer, and I was able to cry

out to him. Forwards of Ice number one. You must

have an eternal perspective about this life. You must have

an eternal perspective about this life.

You should view this life this way. Jesus changed my life.

How can I not tell other people about him? This

is the most significant thing that has ever happened in

my life, finding Jesus.

How can I not tell other people about it?

You tell everyone about your boyfriends and girlfriends. You should

tell people about Jesus. You talk about your kids constantly.

You should tell people about Jesus.

Man, I don't have an excuse.

I will tell anyone who listens that I bleed purple,

that I'm a Husky fan, that last night the Huskies

beat Colorado skate Go Dogs. I will also tell anyone

who listens, I'm a Raider fan. The Raiders leashed the

Seahawks for Geno Smith.

I don't have any problem talking about that.

So if I truly believe that Jesus changed my life,

why don't I talk about him? Solomon said in Ecclesiastes,

this is compelling. He said, God has planted eternity in

the human heart. People ask me all the time, peb,

what is your main motivation for what you do? And

I am addicted to seeing people find Jesus. I'm addicted

to the stories. I'm addicted to life change because I

remember how Jesus changed my life. Here's what I fundamentally believe.

This is woven into the fabric of my life. I

believe this at the core of my being, that every

single person was created to be in a relationship with Jesus.

But when they're born, they are born with a hole

in their heart.

They grow up knowing they are missing something, and they

try to fill that hole with everything the world has

to offer. They try to fill it with sex, drugs, relationships, money, power, fame, jobs.

They try to fill it with every false thing they

can find, and just like Solomon, in the end, they

find out that that didn't fill it, that they're still lonely,

They're still empty, something is still missing, and like Solomon,

they declare this was meaningless.

Chasing after the wind.

That is because the only thing that fills that hole

in your heart is a relationship with Jesus.

That's why we call it.

When you find Jesus, you have that aha moment where

everything makes sense. I believe that every single person has

that hole in their heart that can only be filled

by relationship with Jesus. Unfortunately, Acts one eight before Jesus

ascended into Heaven, he helped us with this job. He said,

you'll receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you.

Now you receive power from the Holy Spirit, not just

so that the hair on the back of your neck

will stand up, not just so you get the warm

fuzzies all around you, not just so you get goosebumps

on your arms.

Jesus said, You're gonna receive.

Power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, so you'll

be my witnesses in Jerusalem. What is your and my Jerusalem?

It's Mill Creek, Everett's Nahomish, Muckle Teal, Boffel, Linwood, Seattle.

It is this region, This is our Jerusalem. Why does

the Holy Spirit come on us in power.

To reach our Jerusalem?

And then once that's done, we're to spread it to

Judae in Samaria, the surrounding communities and states. And when

that's done, we're to take it to the ends of

the earth, and that's foreign missions. He gave us the

Holy Spirit so I would tell others about him. Jesus

went on and he said in Matthew five thirteen that

you and I are the salt of the earth.

And he says, but if salt loses.

Its saltiness, how can it be made salty again. It's

no longer good for anything except to be thrown out

and trampled by men. In the first century, salt was

very valuable. It was a priceless commodity. But salt had

a purpose. Its job was to preserve. Its job was

to enhance the taste of something. And Jesus is saying

that if salt no longer does the things it's supposed

to do, it has no purpose, that it's worthless. You

might as well throw it out on the road and

walk on it.

You and I are the salt of the earth.

We live in a world surrounded by people who have

a hole in their heart that can only be filled

by a relationship with Jesus. God has placed you where

you are, not by accident. Stop resenting where you live,

stop resenting where you work, step back, view the world

from an eternal perspective. Maybe God has you where you are,

not for you, but for someone in your sphere of

influence because they need the same.

Hope in their life that you have in Jesus. That

was good.

We aren't where we are by accident. We are salt

in our sphere of influence. We're to be a voice

of hope, telling people Jesus is the hope of the world,

like we exist to make Jesus famous. So word of advice,

you want to live a mission of life, you have

to view this life with an eternal perspective. Number two,

This one's dangerous. You got to pray for guidance in

this life. I'm gonna challenge you to pray what I

believe are irresistible prayers. What I mean by that is,

if you pray these prayers, the answer from Jesus is going.

To be yes.

You see, there are some prayers that you pray that

he says no, because that's what you need to hear.

So if I stood up here and I said, oh, Jesus,

please give me a Rolex, odds are he's gonna say

you don't need a Rolex. But I promise you, if

you pray these prayers, get ready, because he'll answer them.

The first prayer you should pray is pray that He

breaks your heart for people. Man, Christians, we are so

awesome at getting mad at people who don't agree with us.

We are so awesome at not liking people that don't

live like us.

Now, maybe what you should do is pray that Jesus

breaks your heart for people that vote differently than you.

Maybe pray that he breaks your heart for people that

have different views on social issues than you do. Maybe

pray that He breaks your heart for people that view

the world differently than you do. If you truly believe

that every single person is born with a hole in

their heart, that they are spending this life trying to

fill what is missing in their life, think of it

this way. If someone is convinced these relationships will fell

what is absent in my life, only to discover that

they were dead wrong, wouldn't they be frustrated? And then

if they were to try my career and in the

end they discovered I'm still empty.

Wouldn't they start getting mad?

And then if they were, decide it's got to be money,

and then they chase after money, and then when they

get it, they conclude I'm still lost.

You'd be mad too.

Instead of react to somebody's anger towards us, why don't

we pray that God will break our hearts towards them.

It's dangerous, He'll do it. Here's an example.

You still like me, okay, Luke, Chapter nineteen, A story

in the Life of Jesus. It's pretty awesome. Jesus is

like at the peak of his popularity, and he is

walking down the Mount of Olives. Next fall, the fall

of twenty twenty six, We're gonna do another Israel trip.

God willing, and you will walk down the Mount of Olives.

And it is.

It's breathtaking, it's moving. I can't describe it to you.

But Jesus is walking down the Mount of Olives in

a large group of disciples is following him. As he

walks down towards Jerusalem. And those that are following him,

they start shouting and singing and worshiping and declaring, joyfully,

blessed is the King who comes in the name of

the Lord. While all the religious people were like Jesus,

tell them to settle down, tell them to be quiet.

They're not being respectful. Tell them to knock it off

and Jesus responds by saying.

Uh, I tell you that if they keep quiet.

The stones will cry out. Don't force the stones to

cry out on our behalf when it comes to our faith.

Then the story goes on that as Jesus approached Jerusalem,

he saw the city. Remember, this is the city that

is full of people that hated him, that would betray him,

It would falsely accuse him. This is the city where

they would spit upon him, say horrible things about him.

This is the city full of people who would beat.

Him, crucify him, and kill him. If there's anybody that

could have looked at a city and said ooh, ooh, gross,

it was Jesus.

And I got to a point a few years ago

where I got so tired of people complaining about Seattle.

Stop complaining about the homeless people in Seattle. Stop complaining

about the people in Seattle that protest everything we as

Christians do.

Start praying that.

God will break your heart for those people. Because those people,

if they don't know Jesus and they die, spend an

eternity separated from him. And if life would have been different,

if Jesus wouldn't have crossed our path, if someone wouldn't

have told us about him, and we would have known

that we could cry out to him to save us

that might have been us. So as Jesus walks towards

this city that is about to kill him, it says

he wept over it. His heart was broken for the

people of Jerusalem. He made this statement, He said, he

if you even you had only known on this day,

what would bring you peace? I mean when people shout

at us as Christians, when people give the church bad

reviews simply because we're a church, if they only knew

what was hidden from them, if they only knew what

would bring them peace, how will they know if we

don't tell them, How will they ever know if they

don't know who to cry out to. Pray that Jesus

breaks your heart for people.

He'll do it. I dare you.

Second thing you should pray about. Pray that he brings

people into your life. Pray that he gives you divine appointments.

Pray that he gives you new friendships. Pray that he'll

help you build bridges, develop friendships, people that you can

listen to learn from, live life with people that he

loves that desperately need him. If you Pray that he'll

bring them into your life. Here's another irresistible prayer to pray. Then,

when all of this happens, pray that you'll have the

courage to share your faith. Christians, oftentimes we're a shame

to admit we're Christians because we're scared of the response. Man,

I don't I'm not ashamed to admit I'm a Raider fan,

even though I know I'm going to get oohs and

ahs and grows from people. So why would I be

afraid to tell them I love Jesus. I'm a follower

of Jesus. I've shared many times. When you're a pastor

and you travel as much as I do, people sit

next to you on planes and they ask questions and

it always comes down to you, what do you do

for work? Now I have a choice. I can avoid

the question. I can and say something like, well, I

work for a nonprofit, Well I teach it a university,

or I'm a public speaker.

I mean, I can avoid the question.

But if I'm bold and I say a pastor venture church,

I get one or two responses every single time. It's

never different than this. One response is, oh, you're a pastor?

Dead silence the rest of the flight, or the responses,

oh you're a pastor, sure, free counseling for that person

the rest of the flight. So I always brace myself

for the question because I know that it's coming. God

will bring people into your life. But when he does,

are you willing to do something about it?

Too often.

We're willing to allow other people to be themselves around us,

but we are unwilling to be ourselves around them. We'll

let them talk about every vile, terrible thing they do,

but we're embarrassed to tell them we go to church

on Sundays.

Why is that?

It's almost like the New Testament authors knew this was

going to be an issue for us.

That's why Paul said this.

He said, God has not given us a spirit of

fear and timidity. In other words, if you're full of

fear and timidity, that didn't come from.

Jesus, he said.

But instead God gave you a spirit of power, love,

and self discipline. Paul said, this, this is this one's

one you should memorize. Romans won sixteen. For I am

not ashamed of the Gospel because it is the power

of God that brings salvation to everyone. Who believes, pray

that God will give you courage. I dare you he will,

all right. Third tip I have for you.

You need to live a spirit filled life.

Not going to take a lot of time on this

because I literally did a series through the Fruit of

the Spirit earlier this year. Go back, listen to the

Fruit of the Spirit sermon. Make sure that you live

a life that exemplifies love, joy, peace, patience, kindness for parents, gentleness, goodness,

self control, all of those things.

But Paul said this in Ephesians.

He said Ephesians four one, I urge you to live

a life worthy of the calling you've received. Live like

you believe the faith that is in your heart. Be

an example, Be authentic, Try to live out your faith

as best you can in your everyday life. So don't

just be a follower of Jesus when you're around me.

Don't just be a follower of Jesus at church or

some you know, official church function. Be a follower of

Jesus at school. Many of you are heading off to

school this fall next week. Sorry from you, but be

a Christian at school. Be proud of the fact that

Jesus has changed your life.

You have something in you that.

The rest of your fellow students don't have that hole

in your heart filled. Be an example at we're at home,

at the coffee shop, at the mall, be nice to

your barristas, be nice to your servers at restaurants.

Honor Jesus by the way you live your life. What

do we.

Refer to someone who says they believe one thing but

lives their life totally differently. We call those people a hypocrite.

We don't ever want to be referred to as a hypocrite.

We hate that word.

But did you know that? Google this, not now, but

after the service.

See if I'm telling you the truth that the number

one reason that people don't go to church who get

frequently invited is they say, whether it's right or wrong,

the church is full of hypocrites. And unfortunately, here's what's happened.

One hypocrite gets us all lumped into that.

So I just want to challenge you. Don't let that be.

You don't be the person who says one thing, who

says they love Jesus but lives like the devil everywhere else,

so that I get lumped into being like you don't

do that. Live a spirit filled life There's a famous

quote that has been misquoted for decades. It's always been

attributed to Saint Francis of Assisi. But another thing you

can google afterwards. There's zero proof that he actually said this,

And the quote itself isn't totally accurate, but I get

the spirit behind it.

But it says this. It says, preach the.

Gospel at all times, and if necessary, use words. I

understand what they mean by that, and that is true.

It's basically live a life worthy of your calling. Like

Paul said, like let people see a good, blameless, righteous

person you at work, at school, in your neighborhood. But

you can't just leave it there.

That's insufficience.

Why I don't love it when people use that quote.

Because you cannot teach the Gospel without using words. You're

going to be forced to use words. And that's number four.

Fourth tip I have for you.

Engage in conversations.

With people about your faith. If you want to live

on mission. There is gonna come a point You've heard

me say this hundreds of times where you are gonna

need to leverage your relationships in your sphere of influence

for the cause of Christ. There is gonna come a

point where you need to share your story, where you

need to share your testimony. People have zero problem sharing

their story with you. Why should you be ashamed to

share your story with them. You need to be willing

to engage in conversations with people, Be respectful, but not

a shame to share your story. One of the things

that I learned a long time ago is no one

can argue with my experience.

No one can deny that knew me.

Before Jesus, that I am a different person today. So

when I tell them it is because I found Jesus now, their.

Conclusion may be, well, it's good for you and that

it's worked for you.

That might be their conclusion, but no one can deny

Jesus has changed your life. Your testimony is your encounter

with Jesus when he crossed your path. Engage people in conversations.

I conclude with this thought, it is so important that.

You know the basic plot of the Bible.

Because at oftentimes the worst moments, people are going to

ask you about Jesus and you don't have time to

text me or die and ask what do I say?

Can you schedule a meeting with them? You need to

know a few thoughts about your faith, and I.

Think it's important that you at least have these three

scriptures memorized.

Write this down.

The reason I think you should have these three scriptures

memorized is because I firmly believe that the Gospel changes lives,

that my story, while it might be moving and powerful,

it's me proclaiming the Gospel that literally tears down strongholds.

Principalities are destroyed, strongholds are broken when God's word is

proclaimed so.

Basic plot of the Bible.

According to these three verses, we are lost and we

are in need of a savior.

No one will deny that the world is messed up.

No one will deny that there's poverty, brokenness, homelessness, addiction,

there's wars and famines and natural disasters, that there's challenges

everywhere we go. No one denies that, and no one denies.

That there needs to be hope for people.

Romans three twenty three tells us the answer for all

of sin and fall short of the glory of God.

Romans three twenty three memorize it for all of sinned

and fallen short of the glory of God. When people

say I don't believe there's a God, because how can

there be so much evil in the world, because all

have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God,

and everybody's in need of hope and a savior.

First thought.

Second thought, God loves you and gives you hope in Jesus.

God loves us, gives us hope in Jesus. John three

point sixteen. Everyone needs the savior. It's in Jesus.

God so loved the world that he gave his one

and only.

Son, that whoever believes in him would not perish but

have eternal life. The world is broken, the world is lost,

in need of a savior. God loves us and provided

us a savior. In the last one Romans ten thirteen.

I've already quoted it a dozen times today. Everyone who

calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.

What do I need to do?

Cry out to him, invite him into your life. Every

single person that calls on the name of the Lord

will be saved.

Well, what about the messed up life that I've lived?

What about all the mistakes that I've made?

What about my background and all my problems and all

my struggles. I don't know about any of those. All

I know is he said, everyone can find forgiveness in Jesus.

Everyone can find a savior in Jesus. Everyone who calls

on the name of the Lord will be saved.

Church bottom line.

If something is important to you, you'll always talk about it.

You don't have any problem talking about your kids. You

don't have any problem talking about golf. You don't have

any problem talking about hunting and fishing. It is impossible

for me to not talk about my family. I can't

not talk about my kids and my wife because I

love them.

They're super important to me.

How can I not talk about the one thing that

actually filled the hole in my heart? The Church exists

for mission. You me, We exist for mission. So how's

mission on? Everybody, stand up on your feet. I just

want to pray for you. I'm going to conclude by

praying for you. The interesting thing about Labor Day weekend

is whether it's true or not. Psychologically, it's like the

end of summer for us.

It's like we get Monday, we.

Have lots of fun tomorrow, but on Tuesday, reality sets in.

Kids go off to school, You go off to school.

You got to kind of refocus on work. Summer is over.

Vacation season is over.

It's time to get busy.

My prayer for you is that you will go into

this fall thinking I want to represent Jesus well.

I want to make Jesus famous.

I want to live a life on mission because I

exist for mission, and I have an encouraging word.

For you.

Psalms thirty four to eight. I've quoted this so many

times over the years. When I talk to people about

my faith and they don't seem receptive, I usually end

by giving them this challenge.

I just say, try it, give it a chance.

Just go to church one time and see what happens.

And in the back of my head, I'm thinking, taste

and see that the Lord is good, because I believe

you will seek him and you will find him when

you seek him with all of your heart. If you

draw near to him, he'll draw near to you. I

believe he is the hound of Heaven that he chases

after people, that if people open the door a crack,

he'll begin to reveal himself to them. He'll put so

many people in their life over and over again. They're

gonna encounter Christians, Bible verses, songs about Jesus. It's gonna

happen everywhere. They are gonna wonder.

What is up?

And that is because Jesus is trying to fill the

hole that's in their heart. But how will they believe

if they've never heard? And how they hear if no

one tells them? Blessed are the feet of those who

bring good news. Beautiful are the feet of those who

bring good news?

By your heads, close your.

Eyes, look Jesus, I pray today that you would challenge

each and every one of us to live on mission,

to live a life that is worthy of the calling

that we have.

To live a life that.

Is worthy of the life change that we've experienced. In Lord,

I pray right now that you would bring person after

person into each and every one of our lives, that

we get an opportunity to share our story with in

Jesus' name.

Amen, Amen, Before I send you out the door, let

me just remind you we have a page on our

go represent him well. May the Lord encounter your path
