  1. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Love Quest International

  2. Church podcast, where we seek to love all nations, equip the

  3. church, mobilize the equipped, and serve all.

  4. We're super glad you're joining us from whenever and wherever

  5. you're at in the world. Welcome to the family to get

  6. your Bibles ready, get some water, get some coffee, maybe

  7. some tea, and get ready to receive.

  8. Let's get into it. Not only are cemeteries filled

  9. with dead bodies and hospitals filled with compromise health

  10. and prisons filled with criminals.

  11. In some prisons not criminals that did crimes or all are

  12. guilty, but still. And yet prisons filled with

  13. criminals. There is one theme that runs

  14. through graves, prisons and hospital rooms alike.

  15. The word is regret. The echo of shoulda, coulda

  16. woulda still rings loud in the souls of 1,000,000 past, present

  17. and future. And if shoulda coulda woulda

  18. could be captured in a single question, it would be this What

  19. if? What if I tried?

  20. What if I obeyed? What if I just decided to trust?

  21. What if I didn't let fear decide?

  22. What if? Because fear, doubt, anxiety,

  23. insecurity, sabotage, codependency, and unbroken

  24. strongholds have kept far too many people standing at the edge

  25. of destiny but never stepping into destiny.

  26. And the greatest tragedy is this.

  27. It's not failing. It's not lost.

  28. It's not rejection. The greatest tragedy is this.

  29. It is the tragedy of never finding out.

  30. It is standing before God one day, realizing obedience was

  31. offered. And I never found out what my

  32. yes could have become. One day every life will be

  33. weighed and every choice revealed and every yes or no

  34. accounted for. So today, go look at this story.

  35. Through. Two lenses at the same time. 1

  36. lens it is. What does this mean for my life

  37. right now? This is existential lens.

  38. This is asking who am I becoming?

  39. Who am I becoming? What does this mean for my life

  40. right now? Existential.

  41. Who am I becoming? And then the other question is,

  42. what does this mean when I stand before God?

  43. What does this mean when I stand before?

  44. God, this eschatological lens is who?

  45. Will I answer to this? Eschatological is dealing with

  46. eternity. I am thinking about when it's

  47. all over, who will I answer to? Who will I stand before and what

  48. will I say about my life when I stand before him in eternity?

  49. Existential is because it confronts who I am, becoming an

  50. eschatological because it confronts who will I answer to?

  51. This is not just a message about today, it's a message about

  52. forever. And the question that really

  53. started all of this can be found in Matthew 19.

  54. And someone came to him and said, Teacher, what essentially

  55. good thing shall I do to obtain eternal life, that is eternal

  56. salvation in the Messiahs Kingdom?

  57. What good thing, what good essential thing shall I do or

  58. obtain to inherit or get or walk into eternal life, that is

  59. eternal salvation in the Messiah's Kingdom?

  60. Before God speaks love quest, he often steals us.

  61. He often quiets us, not because he is quiet, but it is because

  62. we are loud, our lives are busy, we are loud, our lives are busy.

  63. And This is why we've been looking at Psalm 46 where it

  64. says let be and be still. And no, no, no, let be, let it

  65. be. Stand down and be still and know

  66. and know. What allows me to remain still

  67. is because I know. Stillness is not calm.

  68. Stillness is not inactivity. Stillness is the moment where

  69. competing loyalties are exposed. Stillness is the moment where

  70. competing loyalties are exposed. Stillness is where the noise

  71. stops lying to us. And here's the danger.

  72. Some people avoid stillness. I'm talking to this entire room,

  73. including me. Some people ignore still or

  74. avoid stillness, not because they're busy, but because

  75. stillness would begin to ask a lot of questions.

  76. Stillness would ask questions like what if you get to the end

  77. of your life and realize you never actually try?

  78. What if somebody say what if? What if obedience was the

  79. doorway to the version of you heaven was waiting on?

  80. What if the thing Jesus asked you to lay down was the very

  81. thing blocking your peace? What if you didn't fail, but you

  82. hesitated? What if your wealth wasn't

  83. money, but it was control and busyness?

  84. What if you were one surrender away from rest?

  85. What if you kept everything but lost rest and peace?

  86. What if you kept the commandments but you missed your

  87. call? What if heaven had plans that

  88. your comfort vetoed? What if your morality was on

  89. point, but your availability was not?

  90. What if you love the idea of eternal life, but you really

  91. didn't love the cost of transformation?

  92. What if your life ends responsibly lived but eternally

  93. unnamed? What if you never find out who

  94. you could have become? See, stillness doesn't force a

  95. decision, it reveals 1. So what happens when Scripture

  96. stands silent? What happens when there's an

  97. unsolved mystery in the Bible? What happens when we see

  98. tragedy, but we don't see redemption?

  99. What happens when scripture stands?

  100. Silence, right? Because in this passage, there

  101. was no demons. There was no storm was no demons

  102. to cast out. There was no storm to say be

  103. still to. There was no crowd to ask hush.

  104. There was just one man, one question, one invitation, one

  105. man, one question, one invitation, one man.

  106. Somebody say one question, one invitation.

  107. Matthew 1917 says it like this. Jesus answered.

  108. Why are you asking me about what is essentially good?

  109. There is only one who is essentially good.

  110. But if you wish to enter eternal life, keep my commandments.

  111. Here's a man in the Gospels who does everything right.

  112. You guys, we're used to reading scripture where somebody's sick,

  113. somebody did something wrong, somebody was rebelling, somebody

  114. did walk the other way, somebody cut somebody out, somebody said,

  115. somebody committed adultery, Somebody, somebody, somebody,

  116. somebody. But we're never looking at this

  117. man had his morals intact, this man followed all the laws and

  118. still and yet number 1, he is feeling unfulfilled, asking a

  119. question, What else can I do? But Jesus is also not satisfied,

  120. because there's one thing he has not done.

  121. Although he's done everything, He has not just done everything,

  122. He's done everything right. He is moral, He is disciplined.

  123. He is sincere. He comes to Jesus respectfully.

  124. He asked about eternal life. He wants assurance about his

  125. future with God. This is not a rebellious man.

  126. This is not a skeptic. He's not double minded.

  127. This is someone who wants life. And in Jewish thought, in

  128. inheriting internal life meant participating in the age to

  129. come. He is not asking how to behave

  130. better. He is asking.

  131. Who? He will become How do I get this

  132. life? What else do I need to do to get

  133. this life? What else do This is the world.

  134. What all do I need to do to find this rest in life, this peace in

  135. life, to get bills off my back, to get people off my back, to

  136. have a happy life? What else do I got to do?

  137. Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo

  138. wake up Doo go to sleep do eat do I am go do do.

  139. All we do is do don't know how to be.

  140. So we're in the world that is do do I.

  141. Didn't even try that. That was spirit LED.

  142. Watch this the greatest tragedy you guys in scripture is not

  143. rebellion. It is unrealized obedience.

  144. We are so focused on sin and rebellion that this one thing

  145. right here the. Grave is full of unrealized

  146. obedience, not unrealized talent, unrealized obedience

  147. prisons filled with what ifs hospitals now you on your

  148. deathbed now you sick now you got kids now you got and it's

  149. like man, what if and we spend all our lives somewhere

  150. beginning to just alter doing to try and get this life that was

  151. purchased by Jesus purchase life.

  152. But we're still paying. Watch this.

  153. People do not always go missing because they reject Jesus.

  154. We go missing because we doubt Jesus.

  155. We hesitate. We second guess Jesus.

  156. And here's the tragedy, you guys.

  157. It's a life unresolved. We get to the end and all the

  158. stuff that you spent your young life trying to do, you get older

  159. and like, Dang, now I'm 60, now I'm 50 and I'm like, what else

  160. do I do? Because I've done all that I've

  161. got. I've accomplished all that.

  162. Now what? And Jesus, I'm assuming that the

  163. answer he gave you at 20 is the same answer at 60.

  164. If you still got the question, His answer never changes.

  165. He is never going to say, next is go buy this, next marry that,

  166. next invest in that. He is always going to point to

  167. this one thing. And that's what we're here to

  168. discover today. The reason this story is so

  169. unsettling you guys is because nothing is wrong with this guy.

  170. There's no scandal. Watch this.

  171. There's no sin to expose. There's no demon to cast out.

  172. There's no sickness to be healed.

  173. Which means the question isn't what did he do wrong?

  174. Wow. We're not asking what did he do

  175. wrong, what Sunday you went to church where we've preached not

  176. about someone's sin or didn't use a scripture about somebody's

  177. sickness or didn't use a scripture about somebody's

  178. poverty. This is a wealthy man, a healthy

  179. man, an obedient man. Everything is well.

  180. He's disciplined and still. And yet there is something

  181. that's missing. The question is.

  182. What did he refuse to release up to this point in his life?

  183. This isn't about what you've done wrong.

  184. Jesus paid it all. So the question now is what are

  185. you holding on to? We're so sin conscious.

  186. We're so waking up every day. I'm a I'm a not smoke.

  187. I'm gonna try not to do this. I'm gonna try not to sleep

  188. around. I'm gonna try not to do that.

  189. And I'm gonna try not to do that.

  190. I'm gonna try not to do that. I'm gonna not go there no more.

  191. It's all about what I'm going to do, what I don't need to do,

  192. what I'm gonna stop doing is. Do, do, do, do, do and not once

  193. Are you like, wait a minute, maybe I can stop it if I release

  194. it. And releasing watch.

  195. This is a lot simpler than stopping because some of you

  196. stop, but you still got possession of it.

  197. You still got possession of the habit.

  198. You still got possession of the of the routine.

  199. You still got possession of the thoughts.

  200. You still got possession of the laptop.

  201. So you're not watching porn no more, but guess what you're

  202. doing? You still got the laptop.

  203. So you're not releasing the hurt, you're not releasing the

  204. bondage, you're not releasing the habit, you're not releasing

  205. the friends, you're not releasing the location, not

  206. releasing what did he refuse to release, guys?

  207. And that's why I feel like we got to kind of slow down and

  208. look at what is the question here.

  209. What is Jesus trying to reveal? What is Jesus trying to reveal,

  210. Teacher? What?

  211. Good thing. Here's the question again.

  212. What good thing shall I do to obtain eternal life?

  213. What do I need to do to be a Christian?

  214. What more do I need to do to get rid of this guilt and shame?

  215. What do I need to do? This is not a trick question.

  216. This is not cynicism. This is a man really seeking

  217. assurance. He's he's he comes to Jesus

  218. running. He comes to Jesus kneeling.

  219. Authentic. Watch this authentic about

  220. pursuing Jesus. His question is authentic.

  221. There's no manipulation here. He even calls Jesus teacher.

  222. He's honoring Jesus. Nothing about his posture

  223. suggests rebellion, does it? Here it is.

  224. He wants eternal life, but he wants control over how to get it

  225. right. You want to be saved and you

  226. want all the blessings that come with sewing and that comes with

  227. following Jesus. But you want control of when

  228. Ephesians 320 comes. You want control of when the

  229. press down, shaken together, running over.

  230. You want you want to suggest when the leprosy fall off, you

  231. want control over when the marriage is going to start

  232. clicking. You want control.

  233. So you like, what do I need to do?

  234. A lot of people come to church to try to find what to.

  235. Do to handle Monday to Saturday. How many people come to church

  236. because you follow Jesus and you come to learn how to follow him

  237. more? Or you come because you think

  238. church is a good place? No different than people who's

  239. full of guilt. They go find a Catholic Church

  240. or a church that's open during the week and they sit down in

  241. front, do the Hail Marys and they do all they do because

  242. that's what you do to get rid of sin.

  243. That's what you do to get guilt off of yourself.

  244. I'm a give because I've been so stingy for so long.

  245. I've sold dope. I've done these things.

  246. So let me give to the church. Let me pay it forward.

  247. Let me right my wrongs dude. Is that what the blood did made

  248. us do? He is not asking who do I

  249. follow, he is asking what do I do?

  250. And that's what a lot of people are here.

  251. This is why we read our Bible. We looking for principles to

  252. help us do more. OK, so I love Proverbs because

  253. it showed me how to do peace. It showed me how to do wisdom.

  254. I don't got wisdom. I just worked this principle,

  255. right? You do 1 + 1 that should get 2.

  256. And when you get 3, you like, how did one plus how did I get

  257. 3. You follow and watch this.

  258. You're following the formula. Formula You're not following

  259. Jesus following formula following law is not following.

  260. Jesus. Well, I did what you said.

  261. Watch this you ready with their lips.

  262. You serve me, but your heart is so far from me.

  263. Jesus begins to expose the throne.

  264. Jesus redirects him from good deeds to God's goodness.

  265. He said how you how you focus on what do you need to do good?

  266. It's only one that's good. Let's not forget you nasty, you

  267. filthy, you a Sinner and, and, and it's only one that's good.

  268. And the only reason you even qualify to come into this

  269. goodness is because of the blood of Jesus.

  270. So let's not make it. You can't do enough good.

  271. You can't out good the blood. If it was about doing good, then

  272. Jesus. Wouldn't have never had to give

  273. his life. Nobody had to die.

  274. No lambs. He just do good.

  275. Jesus going to give his life and then we going to start doing.

  276. No, no, no. No, only one.

  277. Once and for all. The Bible tells us Jesus shifts

  278. the question from achievement to allegiance and behavior to

  279. belonging. We're an achievement, especially

  280. here, achievement based culture. How much have you achieved?

  281. What Bible school you went to? How many degrees you got?

  282. Achievement, achieve, achieve, achieve.

  283. You got so many achieving Christians.

  284. And how many Christians does Jesus have their allegiance and

  285. behavior to belong? He's like behavior to belong.

  286. You belong your son and daughter, not an orphan.

  287. Orphans think, do sons and daughters think belonging,

  288. right? This is this.

  289. What Jesus is dealing with and confronting is an orphan spirit

  290. right now. Jesus consistently moves

  291. conversations from performance to lordship, performance to

  292. Lordship. Watch it.

  293. Eternal life is the result of surrender, not the completion.

  294. Of A to do list. No wonder we can't pray for a

  295. long time because we go into prayer with A to do list and a

  296. Christmas list. Never a follow list.

  297. Never I want to know you list. It's just a list and we turn it

  298. into God bless my kids, heal my body, open this door, promote

  299. me, close that door. It's all A to do that gets

  300. tiring because it watch this your list is about.

  301. You help me, help me change that for me, change that for me and

  302. and and not once. Now imagine if you was in a

  303. relationship, my wife, and it's just like, hey, Bobby this and

  304. Bobby dad, or I'm asking her Bobby this, Bobby dad.

  305. And I'm never like, man, how was it growing up in your life?

  306. Tell me a little bit about your mom.

  307. Tell me about your dad. Like I want to know about you.

  308. Did that hurt your feelings? How can I do that better?

  309. Because I want to be intimate with you.

  310. I want to know you. I want to evolve with you.

  311. I want to be transformed by our lives together.

  312. But even when we get in marriages, they hit rock bottom

  313. because really, you're doing a you're doing a belonging thing.

  314. Sons and daughters get married, but then you turn it into a

  315. orphan institute. Since it turns into orphan

  316. university, the whole household orphan university is.

  317. It's it's not our kids don't know how to belong.

  318. They it's sons and daughters. It's like.

  319. No, no, no. It's this big To Do List.

  320. If if somebody come home after a long day of work and the laundry

  321. is out, it's like, oh, why you didn't do this?

  322. Oh, you didn't go to the store. Oh, you, you was out too late.

  323. Oh, you doing this and you doing that.

  324. And that's the picture of Mary and Martha.

  325. She was being what was doing and Jesus said the the the one

  326. that's being is doing the thing. That's the thing.

  327. What you're doing is good, but but do not think because she is

  328. sitting at my feet, she's doing less like belonging is less than

  329. doing. No, no, I'm just at peace.

  330. I know who I am. No, no, no, I am actually good

  331. with a little bit. I don't got to work overtime.

  332. I'm good with a little bit because I'm a sewer.

  333. Bless you. Jesus is not investigating his

  334. works. He is exposing his surrender.

  335. He's like by about check, check, check, check, check, check,

  336. check, check, check and Jesus is setting up a moment where he's

  337. like buddy, I'm glad you came now we about to expose some

  338. things. I'm glad you.

  339. Came to church, But can I expose some things?

  340. I'm glad you gave. I'm glad you got married.

  341. I'm glad you enrolled in school. I'm glad you served at the

  342. church. Now.

  343. Now I can expose some things. Oh, you thought you was ready to

  344. serve? OK, let's go.

  345. Now I can expose some things. Now you're busy now.

  346. No, no, no. What?

  347. You what? What God is exposing.

  348. What you were excited to do in the beginning has hit this

  349. moment where now you've ran out of excitement.

  350. Now you're like, OK, if something don't change, I can't

  351. serve. If something don't change, I

  352. can't keep going In this marriage if something don't

  353. change, right? You like, what do I have to do

  354. to change this? And maybe I was serving but

  355. wasn't following Jesus and serving.

  356. Maybe I got married, but my marriage wasn't following Jesus.

  357. We did church. But did we follow?

  358. Matthew 1920 says the young man said to him.

  359. I have kept all these things. Look at him, I've kept all these

  360. things from my youth. So he has been disciplined from

  361. his youth. He's like, what do I still lack?

  362. Why am I still dealing with this dissatisfaction?

  363. I, I left this church and went to that one.

  364. Then I got, I loved it. Then I got dissatisfied again.

  365. And then I worked in this ministry and then I served in

  366. another ministry. Then that didn't make me happy

  367. and I got dissatisfied. Again.

  368. Ah, the reason you just keep ministry hopping, church

  369. hopping, job hopping, man, a woman hopping, drug hopping,

  370. whatever you hopping back and forth to is because there's this

  371. dissatisfactory like, what do I got to do to get rid of this

  372. stress? What do I got to do to get rid

  373. of this anxiety? And God is so good.

  374. He's going to let you just do you to figure it out.

  375. And then one day you're going to come to this pig pen place.

  376. You can come to yourself and you're going to say, what do I

  377. got to do? He's going to say.

  378. I've been here. I've been here the whole time.

  379. I stay here like a bus stop. I'm right here.

  380. It's not lying. This man, he's not lying at all.

  381. He's been disciplined, super sincere, and totally devout.

  382. Truth of the matter is, you guys watch this.

  383. You can be sincere and still stalled.

  384. You can be moral and still misaligned, and you can obey

  385. rules and resist rule, but obedience to rules is not the

  386. same as surrender to rule. Yeah.

  387. Just because you obey does not mean that you surrender.

  388. It does not mean that Jesus rules your life.

  389. It does not mean that peace rules like an umpire.

  390. He kept commands. Yes, you guys, but commandments

  391. can shape behavior without ever touching authority.

  392. Commands can shape behavior without ever touching authority.

  393. Mark 10/21 says looking at him watch this guys is very

  394. important. You can only imagine this

  395. encounter like I I would come to Jesus boldly.

  396. I'm not coming in shame because I'm I'm sick.

  397. I'm not coming in shame because I was caught committing

  398. adultery. I'm not coming in shame.

  399. I actually I'm like Jesus I didn't did everything you told

  400. me what next? Jesus looks at him, felt love,

  401. felt high regard. This is a successful man.

  402. Compassion for this man. Watch this.

  403. Jesus exposes Thrones to free people.

  404. Shame is not in his blood. When Jesus is having a

  405. conversation with him, he is not trying to expose him to shame

  406. him. Quite frankly, there's nothing

  407. to really expose as far as sin and wrong.

  408. It's not like he's at the well and he's talking to the woman at

  409. the well and he's like, yeah, yeah, you have 5 husbands, Calm

  410. down. He's not dealing with a woman

  411. full of shame who's called in the act of adultery.

  412. He's not dealing with the woman with the issue of blood who

  413. feels filthy and she's scared because she touched a clean man

  414. while she was filthy and she was not supposed to do that.

  415. He's not dealing with a doubting Thomas.

  416. He's not dealing with a denying Peter.

  417. He is not dealing with a Judas who's going to betray him.

  418. He is not dealing with the Pharisees or the Sadducees.

  419. He is not dealing with bad doctrine.

  420. He's dealing with someone who has seen all the commandments

  421. not stealing. Not committing adultery.

  422. Not put no other God before you. I'm doing all of these things.

  423. What else is there to do? And he said to him, you lack one

  424. thing, Terrence. You lack one thing.

  425. You lack one thing, Terrence. And I've been in this place in

  426. my life where I'm like, yeah, man, I grew up in church, but

  427. you lack one thing. I tithe with men.

  428. You lack one thing. I serve.

  429. I'm a pastor. I, I, I, I, I, I spend time with

  430. your sheep, but you lack one thing.

  431. I I love my wife. I treat her well, but you lack

  432. one. I'm a good father, but you lack

  433. one thing. You run into business, but you

  434. lack one thing. You're a good steward of money,

  435. but you lack one thing. He says this is the only way we

  436. can get to the one thing. But I'm about to give you

  437. instructions. Watch this without obeying the

  438. instruction, the one thing is never revealed.

  439. Watch this. Go and sell your property and

  440. give the money to the poor, and you will have abundant treasure

  441. in heaven. Oh, this is so good because this

  442. is a What if this is? You and he, he, he.

  443. You don't know what happens after this.

  444. I was, I was messing around with somebody after this and I'm

  445. like, man, I, I think I got a biblical right and a, a, a, a

  446. legal imagination to be like, I think we going to see him in

  447. heaven. Like don't you want to go to

  448. heaven and find out where he went?

  449. Right? I know where Moses.

  450. I know how Joe, I know these guys, Peter, we, we know people

  451. got beheaded. We, we know.

  452. But this guy, I'm like, wait a minute, you did everything and

  453. then you went missing. Like, like Jesus didn't want to

  454. bring you back later. Like your life after you walked

  455. away didn't have nothing worthy enough to tell us?

  456. Or was it the suspense that Jesus knew would preach more

  457. than the redemption story? Because how many of us are here

  458. a lot of times in our lives, It's one thing.

  459. It's the life of getting, of, of being, getting wealth and

  460. getting to your career and, and getting the family you want and

  461. the white picket fence and all these things.

  462. And then do you want to get to 60 and be like Jesus?

  463. But I'm still not satisfied. What you mean I went all my life

  464. forgetting this one thing? I went to church, I read my

  465. Bible, I have the Bible app I served and then I'm like get

  466. older and I have some sober time now.

  467. Now I got time to think because things are slowing down and the

  468. end is nearing and I'm like, reevaluate, reevaluate my life.

  469. I have an empty nest now. So kids aren't the excuse.

  470. Career is successful is set. I've hired people.

  471. That's not an excuse. I don't want to plant this

  472. church. If God say transition to to do

  473. something else or whatever. And then at the end, then I got

  474. to be like, what else do I got to do?

  475. God, I just think somewhere, no, well, I think him and Jesus ran

  476. into each other or even if they didn't, even I can see him after

  477. Jesus death and Jesus was revealed in a greater way.

  478. I can see the man selling his stuff.

  479. And because there's also principles in the Bible, when

  480. you sew and you leave houses, I can see him still multiplying

  481. because nowhere in the scripture says sell yourself and be broke.

  482. For the rest of your life, he says, sell it and give the

  483. profit. So God, Jesus didn't say just

  484. sell it and save it. He says, sell it and sow it.

  485. And I don't know, but whenever God tell us to sow something, he

  486. has a harvest in mind. Come on somebody, every time.

  487. Come on, he says, and come and follow me, becoming my disciple,

  488. believing and trusting in me, and walking the same path of

  489. life that I walk. Follow me, mirror me, reflect

  490. me. Oh, that's the one thing.

  491. Oh, I came to church, but I wasn't following.

  492. I was adjacent. Proximity, not presence.

  493. And watch this. There was other wealthy people,

  494. but it was this man that Jesus asked this man so, so, so, so

  495. you got to understand that there's some things that Jesus

  496. is asking you to do and let go is not for everybody.

  497. So you can't be like, why are you making this hard for me,

  498. Jesus? Why you ain't making it hard?

  499. Why you didn't ask somebody else to do it?

  500. OK, so when you get blessed, are you like, bless somebody else

  501. too? Why you blessing me?

  502. Why you giving me promotion? Why you ain't giving them

  503. promotion? Oh, so you want a customized

  504. blessing, but you want to share the cost of following Jesus?

  505. Yeah, that's not how it works. Watch this.

  506. Jesus always addresses rival king.

  507. He always addresses the rival king within you.

  508. Mastery is being addressed. Money is not the issue.

  509. Watch this. Jesus does not mind you being

  510. Christian and wealthy. Can we get over that rich?

  511. So don't be afraid of saying no. I want to be.

  512. I want to look, I need a lot of money.

  513. PT need a lot of money. And if you want to share that

  514. with somebody, you want to post that.

  515. I'll say it again for you, PT and the Richmond family and Love

  516. Quest needs a lie. A lot of money, yeah, because we

  517. got a lot of vision and we got a lot, right?

  518. We not just thinking. I got a generational mindset.

  519. I got to take in the city mindset and so, so understand my

  520. request is based on what I'm pregnant with.

  521. It is based on the vision that God has given me.

  522. And it's not merely about me. God's going to take care of my

  523. desires. But I understand that recreation

  524. centers cost, multimedia centers cost, having your own film

  525. companies cost, right? It's time for the church to own

  526. stuff where we're the lenders and not the borrowers.

  527. In order to be a lender, you got to have something to what

  528. exactly? You can't loan broke.

  529. OK, You can't loan broke. What's the interest rate on

  530. broke Broke exactly? Jesus is not confronting

  531. possessions. He is confronting what is

  532. possessing you. He is not removing wealth.

  533. He is revealing rule. Wealth is the oppressor here,

  534. not the object. Stillness is the moment where

  535. competing loyalties are exposed. Remember that competing

  536. loyalties. He stood still long enough to

  537. hear Jesus. Look, I'm going to say this.

  538. I love my wife and I, I, I FaceTime her fifty times a day

  539. when she's out of town. And then 35 when she in town.

  540. OK, so, so I'm she been in Calgary.

  541. I can't wait. First week of April, Richmonds

  542. will all be back together. Mission accomplished.

  543. We'll be back here. PJ and B y'all will have y'all

  544. Pastor Julia back. Yeah.

  545. No one, no one considers what it's like for the first time in

  546. 22 years to do ministry without your partner on your side.

  547. Some of the wind and some of the hits that we took, some people

  548. don't even realize in the spirit was we were walking in separate

  549. places for two years. Going on two years is it'll be

  550. short of two years and family is all over the place and having to

  551. travel and having to make sure we're doing, making sure we're

  552. taking care of that ministry. But what I understand also is

  553. there are some things that happened within me when she

  554. ain't around that are necessary. So when my wife, I don't like,

  555. I'm the only child, so I don't, I have to learn how to be alone.

  556. I don't like being spending too much time by myself and I have

  557. to deal with that. When God took me from

  558. California, I came here. So when my family ain't home,

  559. I'm alone. Right, and so I'm not used to

  560. that, but I'm I've grown in that.

  561. But what I understand is I have learned to love when we're not

  562. together because it's not that when we're together, God don't

  563. get our time, but it's just a different attention when I don't

  564. got to be husband like here, right here, right now.

  565. So my freedom from her is not spent on other idols and other

  566. things, right, Because here, here's what I'm dealing with is

  567. he's always exposing the king on your on the throne and some of

  568. y'all your spouses, your kids and your career is on the

  569. throne. And sometimes the only time God

  570. can get the best time of you is when those things are removed.

  571. And so I've learned there's times where I'm like, babe, I

  572. miss you too much. I'm hopping on plan.

  573. I'm coming to see you. I don't care.

  574. She's like, come on. And then I've learned, I've

  575. learned to push past missing her like that and like, I need to be

  576. here. And then I realized, and then

  577. there's there's moments I need to be with Micah and what Micah

  578. is getting from being with with his dad.

  579. And then when I'm able to walk around the house and just be

  580. with the Lord. And, and look at look at myself.

  581. And This is why people like, oh, I hate being lonely.

  582. If you knew how to use lonely, you would be mature a lot

  583. faster. Watch it.

  584. Watch this because looking within yourself is very

  585. entertaining. Watch this you a whole movie.

  586. You are a whole series. Your everybody life can find

  587. itself on a Netflix series right within you.

  588. You are entertaining. So when you talk about I'm

  589. bored. You ain't looking within.

  590. Next time you think you bored start thinking about yourself

  591. and how crazy you is. Promise you are entertainment

  592. for real. Have anybody ever made their

  593. self laugh? Yeah.

  594. If you ain't laughed at yourself yet, you not living.

  595. You not living, you are not. Living Watch this What if you?

  596. What if you? What if you?

  597. What if you? What if you walk away?

  598. What if you walk away? Still good?

  599. But never free. He's like I'm good, but never

  600. free. Come on, help us Lord.

  601. This young man said I have observed all these things from

  602. youth, what still do I lack? Jesus answered him, If you would

  603. be perfect or mature spiritually mature, spiritual maturity which

  604. accompanies self sacrifice and character.

  605. Jesus said if you would be perfect.

  606. He said if you want to grow, if you want to be matured, you want

  607. to be perfected. Go and sell what you have and

  608. give to the poor and you will have riches in heaven.

  609. And come be my disciple, side with my party and follow me.

  610. Watch this. The first step wasn't follow me,

  611. the first step was sell. And so if you can see yourself

  612. in the spirit, you got so many bags trying to follow Jesus,

  613. Jesus weighed up. And that's why I feel like

  614. sometime purpose feels like it's moving too fast, church doing

  615. too much. So you're trying to slow

  616. everything down because you're weighted down.

  617. And so you have not moving at the pace of grace.

  618. You're not leaning in, you're not getting disciple, you're not

  619. hungry enough. You're letting the obstacles

  620. come and you're like, oh, that cost that I'm not ready to pay

  621. that cost. So I'm going to walk away.

  622. Watch this. But when the young man here it

  623. is. But when the young man heard

  624. this, what did he hear? Sell it, Sew it to the poor.

  625. Follow me. But when the young man heard

  626. this, you guys, he went away. What?

  627. Sad, grieved, and in much distress, for he had great

  628. possessions. What if you lived successful?

  629. But unfinished. He went away sorrowful, meaning

  630. deep distress. He was watch this.

  631. He was not angry. He was not offended.

  632. He was not bitter. He did not rebel.

  633. He walked away grieving. He walked away grieving.

  634. Here it is. Sorrow is the emotion.

  635. Someone who knows exactly what they are walking away from.

  636. You ever quit too soon? You like should have never did

  637. that. You ever beat yourself up?

  638. Scripture never mentions him again.

  639. You guys, this is the unspoken tragedy, no repentance

  640. narrative, no return story. We don't even know his legacy.

  641. Like we don't ever preach the we don't ever preach the the blank

  642. spot of the rich ruler. Obedience moves heaven, not mere

  643. works, you guys. It's following Jesus, not

  644. traditions, rituals, and laws. What if obedience is lighter

  645. than anxiety? What if surrender simplifies

  646. your soul? What if letting go creates room?

  647. Forrest, you ever you ever saw somebody stressing over

  648. something so bad? You was like, I promise you it

  649. ain't that bad. Just let it go.

  650. Like just let it go like and they not letting it go whatever

  651. it keeps them holding on. And then you see them one day

  652. and they let it go and they seem so lighter and happier and you

  653. like what happened? They like I let it go.

  654. Some of y'all in here the question you should ask

  655. yourself, why am I afraid of letting go?

  656. What will be exposed if I let it go?

  657. If I remove this Band-Aid? Because that's all it is, what

  658. will be exposed? Jesus wasn't.

  659. What if Jesus wasn't taking but in, but in inviting him, he was

  660. trusting him to walk with Jesus, for Jesus to ask you to follow

  661. him. I think sometimes we see that

  662. religiously. Let's look at it carnally.

  663. If your favorite star called you right now, your favorite movie

  664. star, favorite entertainer called you right now and say,

  665. hey, I was thinking about you, I'm about to go on tour.

  666. I want you to come with me and I'll pay for everything.

  667. Yeah, Giselle said. Yeah, I'll go, yeah, Come, come

  668. follow me while I'm on the road. And then all your first thing,

  669. if it was your favorite star, favorite entertainer, favorite

  670. businessman, favorite business, you'll be like, you'll begin to

  671. think about all the access you have, man.

  672. When I'm with LeBron, I get or if I'm with Denzel or if I'm

  673. with Tom Hanks or if I'm with I, I mean, I get to be on movie

  674. sets that mean I get to. Eat good.

  675. We get the shop at you start thinking of all the blessing.

  676. Jesus says follow you. You like religion.

  677. Religion. Well, you're going to have to

  678. make your mind up. And this is where he's at.

  679. What if the cross you avoid is the crown you delay?

  680. What if the cross you avoid is the crown that you delay?

  681. What if the thing you fear losing is the very thing killing

  682. your joy? What if stillness births

  683. courage? What if faith feels risky

  684. because it really is? What if you don't just inherit

  685. eternal life later, but abundant life now?

  686. What if peace is on the other side of your yes, and what if

  687. your bloodline shifts because you decided to obey?

  688. What happens if we just find out come to this part of scripture

  689. where he says and come be my disciple.

  690. Look at this transformation receives the invitation.

  691. Discipleship always cost something.

  692. It will never cost nothing. Talked about it earlier.

  693. You do not go to Louis Vuitton and ask them where the clearance

  694. section is. Just don't go to the store, OK?

  695. Don't don't go try nothing on. Don't don't do nothing.

  696. But this is the way we approach the cost of following Jesus.

  697. What's the discount? Where's the coupon for purpose?

  698. What what what's the discount called?

  699. The DM me Jesus like Jesus going to say type follow me in the

  700. comments and I'll put no, no, no, that's not how it works.

  701. Young man heard this. He left grieving and distress.

  702. You guys watch this. This is kind of I don't know.

  703. I mess around with these graphics a little bit and people

  704. pay attention. People don't.

  705. It is what it is, but just off in the balance, man.

  706. You see this young boy, you see this son walking away from Jesus

  707. and Jesus is not chasing him. But watch this, this guy right

  708. here, that's the boy and Jesus. Jesus is not looking for

  709. followers like Hollywood is. Jesus is not trying to get a

  710. blue check. Jesus is just as sad.

  711. The Spirit is just as grieved when you get up every day and

  712. live below as a son or daughter, what he's called you and how

  713. he's called you to live. Don't let your life end in a

  714. question mark. Don't let destiny stop at

  715. hesitation. Be still long enough to hear, Be

  716. brave enough to obey, and be faithful enough to find out.

  717. Watch this guys. Here's the good news.

  718. Here's what he may have not known.

  719. Maybe he did know, but this is a part of the narrative and this

  720. is a part of the story that Jesus teaches his his his

  721. disciples. This is what was preached when

  722. he walked away. What if Watch this if he sold

  723. everything he would have been a part of this conversation where

  724. Jesus they're wondering, wait a minute and Jesus says men for

  725. the rich to get through that. It's like a needle.

  726. It's like it's like going through that door.

  727. It's like a camel going through the the hat, the eye of a

  728. needle. Watch this Martin says this, he

  729. tells them truly, I tell you, Jesus said no one who has left

  730. house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or

  731. fields for me and the Gospel. So when we came to Canada, this

  732. was Matthew 633 and this right here was one of my, I was like,

  733. OK, God, I'm going to follow you.

  734. He's like, absolutely, I put this in the word for you to hold

  735. on to nobody. So no matter how hard it gets,

  736. no matter how much money I'm bleeding for the sake of the

  737. gospel or no matter how hard it is for the sake of the gospel,

  738. here is a promise. He says no one who has left

  739. house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children,

  740. parents or fields for me and for the gospel will fail to receive.

  741. What's this? This is real time stuff, guys.

  742. I can't wait to be in the house with my family in a couple

  743. months. But guess what?

  744. This scripture is real for us, but we also are excited.

  745. No one who has left father, mother, sister, brother,

  746. children, for my sake, we not just living in two different

  747. provinces for, for our sake, for for his sake. 100 times as much

  748. in this will fail to receive. Nobody will fail to receive 100

  749. times as much in this present age.

  750. This he didn't say when you get to the sweet.

  751. By and by this present age. Watch this And this is not just

  752. a promise for me, this is a promise for my bloodline.

  753. As long as Jesus has not returned.

  754. So I'm saying yes, I'll follow you.

  755. So my great grandkids are still benefiting from this.

  756. Follow, watch this. They may not follow him, but

  757. there's a harvest in the bloodline because I follow them.

  758. So I'm following when they can't follow.

  759. My follow is not just for me. If these disciples did not

  760. follow Jesus, we would not have the gospels.

  761. If Paul did not follow Jesus and let the Holy Spirit lead him, we

  762. would not have the letters to the church.

  763. What a what is on the other side of you following Jesus?

  764. And he said the longer persecutions.

  765. Keep you humble, put that little thorn right there and then you

  766. got a scripture like First Corinthians 2.

  767. This is why the scriptures say things never discovered.

  768. I have not seen, nor ear have heard, neither has it entered

  769. into the heart of man what God has in store for those that love

  770. him. Eyes haven't seen.

  771. Why? Because it's on the other side

  772. of obedience. Ears haven't heard.

  773. Why? Because it's on the other side

  774. of obedience what God has. What?

  775. Not even what? What is in your heart?

  776. It ain't even reached your heart I'm talking about.

  777. Yeah. How Can you believe for

  778. something that ain't in your heart?

  779. Faith starts in the heart. So he's talking about there is

  780. something that I ain't even put in your heart that I'm just

  781. going to blow your mind. My plan for you is so much

  782. bigger. And what we want is we want to

  783. know what it is. Lord, put it in my heart.

  784. Lord, give me a vision. That means put it in my heart.

  785. Lord, give me an idea. That means put it in my heart.

  786. Lord, give me a strategy. That means put it in my heart.

  787. Lord, send a word that means put it in my heart.

  788. But what about about those that distrust God?

  789. And there's an eye that hasn't seen, there's an ear that hasn't

  790. heard and there is neither has it entered into your heart.

  791. God has some things in store for you.

  792. OK, God is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we can

  793. ask, think, or all the no, wait a minute, you can.

  794. Do you mean there is a blessing or blessings that I can't even

  795. fathom? There's no dream in the universe

  796. for me, so I'm not looking for it.

  797. Sometimes I get, I get not seriously, but I get mad when I

  798. think about it because I'm like, oh, I thought about it.

  799. I might not get it because he has things that I can't think

  800. about. But then on the flip side, I'm

  801. like, whoa, if I thought about that, if I dreamt about that,

  802. what does he have that I can't dream about?

  803. What does he have in the realm of impossibilities?

  804. Yeah, never doubt God's mighty power to work in you and

  805. accomplish all this. He will achieve infinitely more

  806. than your greatest request, your most unbelievable dream, and

  807. exceed your wildest imagination. He's going to ask you to lay

  808. something down just so you can have some.

  809. Old, broke, boring life. The Bible is the most

  810. entertaining. Ain't no money the Hollywood

  811. can't put out a movie that got the monsters the Bible got.

  812. And I'm not calling angels with with eyes on their wings and all

  813. that. No, no, no, no, no.

  814. But the Bible, what Bible are you reading?

  815. He will outdo. Watch this, the Bible says He

  816. will outdo them all. He will outdo all your

  817. imaginations. He will outdo all your dreams.

  818. So this ain't just any man asking you to follow him.

  819. Oh, I follow my husband, I follow my wife.

  820. I follow my kids to the basketball game.

  821. I follow them. I thought, are you following

  822. Jesus with as much detail and anticipation in the scripture

  823. closed like this? I don't know about you, but I

  824. don't want to be a what if I don't?

  825. I don't want nobody at the end of my life.

  826. I don't want nobody to be like, Dang, what if he man?

  827. What if that that unknown potential, just like man, I

  828. wonder if PT would have. I'm playing basketball till I

  829. can't play basketball no more. I don't want to hurt nothing,

  830. but I'm going to get out there because I'm able.

  831. You know what I'm saying? It's like you Uncle Willy just

  832. turned, what, 7170 and he's still hooping like, like there's

  833. people in here with potential and you just like there's stuff

  834. that God has for you and you just make so many excuses.

  835. Rather it's trauma, rather it's people.

  836. God puts you in people's life and people in your life and you

  837. will make excuses. No, no what ifs.

  838. And there's people in here that we all need to repent, that

  839. we've come to the line of cost and we're still here counting

  840. it, not because we're being stewards, but because we're

  841. making excuses. We're right there.

  842. Why you going to walk all the way to the line?

  843. He Do you know what it took to find Jesus?

  844. How he going to come all the way to Jesus just to walk back?

  845. Watch this. He didn't even come.

  846. He didn't even walk away with what he came for.

  847. Now we offer up to God all glorious praise that rises from

  848. every church in every generation through Jesus Christ and all

  849. that will yet be manifest through time and eternity.

  850. Amen. It goes from a blessing to

  851. saying the response is glorious praise.

  852. It goes from blessing, right? We even do church, right?

  853. We even do church, right. We do church, I say something to

  854. everybody, Amen, Hallelujah, right.

  855. Even when we do announcements, it's we finish an announcement,

  856. announcements is cool. Amen, Amen, Amen, right.

  857. We just do church Amen, Amen, Hallelujah, Hallelujah.

  858. Watch this to where? We read the scripture.

  859. It ain't came to life yet because we're just.

  860. Reading scripture, I'm just doing what I'm supposed to do.

  861. I'm supposed to read the slide versus what the slide says

  862. becomes my reality after after I go from after I go from knowing

  863. I've been where this man has been to seeing what God has in

  864. store for those that cross the line.

  865. And then he says now the blessing has been released.

  866. Watch this verse 21 is not for when verse 20 shows up Verse 21

  867. is for after I read verse 20 yeah.

  868. Can you can you do me a favor and just turn on some praise

  869. music? I don't I'm I'm turned up right

  870. now and so I don't want I don't really is this scripture is in

  871. my spirit right now. Hey man, can you turn turn some

  872. music? Y'all can come get this because

  873. because this word changed me this week I've been at the place

  874. of where I've walked away because I'm like God it's not

  875. time to have all of me. I've let busy get in the way of

  876. call and then somehow in my mind I made what I'm busy doing my

  877. call. Like the Holy Ghost can't give

  878. me enough capacity to do call and what funds my life.

  879. Here's what I do realize a part of the cost is some of the cool

  880. things you want to do while doing purpose is some of the

  881. cool people you want to hang out with while doing purpose.

  882. But there is a flow and a rhythm in life where God is saying no,

  883. no, no, no, follow me, come, come to Canada with me.

  884. I don't care if it's 1020 years, if you go back, if you don't go

  885. back, just follow me. You're not like Lot's wife

  886. looking back, but you're just like, follow me and I promise

  887. you. From somebody that has done it

  888. and is raising a family to know how to do it, following Jesus is

  889. the greatest thing that any person in this room could do.

  890. Is there any other people that's a witness, my witness.

  891. The people that know that to be true should be praising God a

  892. little bit more. Yeah.

  893. There will be no tragedy in your life because we won't wonder

  894. what if Your, your, your, your eulogy will be full of all the

  895. things that was a result of following Jesus.

  896. Come on, take a few moments. No, no, no, no, no.

  897. My life was almost about to end with a what if, What if, What if

  898. this is the year? What if I follow Jesus?

  899. Well, today you make your mind up, you will follow Jesus.

  900. What? What if I stop the drugs?

  901. What if I stop the smoking? Well, there's no what if.

  902. I promise you if you stop, it gets better.

  903. It might be hard, but it gets better.

  904. Jesus is enough. What if I be faithful?

  905. I promise you He rewards integrity.

  906. What if we find out? What if we find out?

  907. What if we find out what I'm here to declare in 2026?

  908. We will see the rewards, we will see the fruit of those that

  909. choose to follow Jesus. And I'm not looking back.

  910. I will not look back. Come on, I need some

  911. intercessors, not spectators. There's somebody hanging in the

  912. balance. Come on, open your mouth because

  913. it's turning around for you. It's turning around for your

  914. coworkers. Turn around for your family.

  915. But everything gets better because you said yes.

  916. Your marriage gets better because you said yes.

  917. You followed. I follow you.

  918. I follow you. They get better because you said

  919. yes. I follow you.

  920. Come on, tell Jesus. I make a commitment today to lay

  921. it down. I lay it all down.
