  7. be with you. If you haven't met me, I have

  8. been here for a lot of years, so maybe you're new,

  9. or maybe you just happen to not be here on

  10. Thanksgiving weekend, because it seems like every year that's when

  11. Pastor Brandon brings me in. So maybe I haven't seen you,

  12. but I've been a part of the Venture family for

  13. a long time and it's an honor to be with

  14. you today. I pastor a church in Southern California called

  15. Higher Vision Church. We have nine locations, eight or in

  16. Southern California and then one is an El Salvador. And

  17. if you're interested, you want to check us out, you

  18. can check you can find us on all the social

  19. media platforms and so on. Also you can find me

  20. Jared Ming, Pastor Jared Ming. That's what that's what it is,

  21. or I think it's peace p Jared me something I

  22. don't know. You can, you can check it out. I

  23. have actually had the chance this week to spend a

  24. lot of time with Pastor Brand And he's not here

  25. this weekend. He's preaching somewhere else. But he was with

  26. us last weekend and preaching a Higher Vision church. And

  27. then him and I got to spend a week going

  28. and having some fun. We went to the Dodgers and

  29. Mariners game down in LA We got to go to

  30. Disneyland and check out Club thirty three. That was cool.

  31. I went to a Mariner's game yesterday, so I've been

  32. with him all week long. Please pray for me. It

  33. was great, but it's nice, I think to have a break.

  34. He kind of gave me the thumbs up and air

  35. me the knuckles yesterday. He's like, it's been good, but

  36. it's ready. I'm ready for a break. So anyway we are.

  37. We're glad to be here today and sharing some things

  38. with you. Let me know that you are blessed to

  39. have listen. Great churches, great ministries, great things that happened

  40. in the earth don't happen by accident. They happen because

  41. God places great leaders to lead them. And how many

  42. know Pastor Brand and Pastor die are some of the

  43. greatest leaders, some of the greatest pastors on the planet.

  44. Can we honor them today? I'm just so thankful for

  45. them for their example, and thank you for your leadership

  46. and getting to see all the things that God has

  47. done well. Pastor Brandon asked me to continue your series

  48. on the Holy Spirit. It's a series called More. Week one,

  49. you learned this idea what changed, and he told you

  50. the story of Peter, this guy who was afraid to

  51. even admit he knew Jesus suddenly has this encounter with

  52. Holy Spirit and it becomes this awesome preacher in the

  53. church is launched, and we learned about the impact of

  54. the Holy Spirit in our lives and how it can

  55. change a lot of things. Week two, he taught on

  56. unlocking your gifts. God has given gifts to us called

  57. gifts of the Spirit, and God wants us to unlock

  58. those gifts so we can walk in that power and

  59. that authority that God asks for us. And then last

  60. week Pastor David talked a little bit about the presence

  61. of God and the Holy Spirit. And so today Pastor

  62. Brandon asked me to finish out the series and I

  63. want to talk to you on something that is something

  64. that sometimes in churches can be an area where people

  65. just don't quite understand the fact. They might even think, wow,

  66. that's a little weird or a little strange. But we're

  67. going to dive right into something that happened in the

  68. Bible and we're going to bring it into the President

  69. and how it affects us. Me ask you a question,

  70. if God had something waiting for you that was like awesome?

  71. How many know Pessor Brandon loves gifts. He loves gifts,

  72. he loves to give him, he loves to receive him

  73. and God, did you know that God has a gift

  74. for you? How many know that if God has a

  75. gift for you, you wouldn't want to get to Heaven

  76. and miss the gift that He had waiting for you.

  77. So today we're going to learn a little bit about

  78. this gift. If you have a Bible turned with me,

  79. I always say that it's at Higher Vision Church that

  80. we are a Bible bringing, note taking amen shouting church.

  81. So if you want out me feel comfortable. And by

  82. the way, if you'll shout a big amen every once

  83. in a while, not only will it be awesome because

  84. we'll be you know, together, saying, Hey, that's what I

  85. want for my life. But it makes me preach faster. Amen.

  86. All right, so say amen, everybody. So we're gonna learn

  87. about a gift. It's found in Acts chapter one. I

  88. want to read to you what it says. If you

  89. have a Bible, you can follow along. Says this, and

  90. being assembled together with them, speaking of Jesus, he commanded

  91. them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for

  92. the promise of the Father, which he said, you have

  93. heard from me. Let me pause. Right there, Jesus has

  94. been telling them about this promise or this gift that

  95. is available to them. And now right before he's going

  96. to ascend and go back to his father in heaven,

  97. he's about to leave. After this is after his death

  98. and resurrection, he spends some time with the disciples. He

  99. tells them once again kind of his last words about

  100. this topic. He says, you've heard me, you know, you've

  101. heard me talk about it. Verse five, for John truly

  102. baptized with water. I mean ask you a question. Anybody

  103. here have been baptized with water? Wait about me? All right?

  104. He said, John baptized with water? But you shall be

  105. baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.

  106. Let me let me ask you a question. Would you

  107. turn to your neighbor and tell him this, Ask him

  108. this question, Have you been baptized? Come on, anybody ever

  109. seen not Joe Libre, I have a question. Have you

  110. been baptized? Have you been baptized? What is this baptism

  111. of the Holy Spirit. We understand being baptized in water,

  112. but what is the baptism of the Holy Spirit today?

  113. I want to talk to you on that theme. What

  114. is the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Well, if you

  115. keep reading in Acts chapter one, going in Acts chapter two,

  116. you're gonna see what the baptism of the Holy Spirit is.

  117. This gift, this promise that Jesus said was waiting the

  118. disciples and the followers of Christ. If you read in

  119. chapter two, here's what it says. It says they went

  120. back and did what he said. They went back to Jerusalem,

  121. they waited, they began to pray, they begin to fast,

  122. They begin to see God about one hundred and twenty

  123. in the Upper Room. And then it says this on

  124. the day of Pentecost, just a few day days after

  125. says they're all in one accord, in one place. They

  126. were praying there, seeking, it says, and suddenly there came

  127. a sound from heaven, like a mighty rushing wind, and

  128. there appeared over them tongues of fire. So there's this

  129. supernatural experience where they saw like literally flames. It says.

  130. It divided and it sat upon each of them. So

  131. the Holy Spirit, the fire of God. We sang about it,

  132. let the fire fall. The fire touched them, and look

  133. what it says in verse two, And they were all

  134. filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with

  135. other tongues as the Spirit of God gave them utterance. So,

  136. in other words, the gift that Jesus said was available

  137. to them, this baptism the Holy Spirit, was when the

  138. Holy Spirit came upon them in such a way that

  139. they spoke in tongues. So I'm like, oh, we're going

  140. to talk about tongues. Yes, we're going to talk about

  141. tongues today. Now. I remember when I was younger in ministry,

  142. I would get, you know, asked to go to youth

  143. camps all the time, and one time I was asked

  144. at a camp talk about, you know, speaking in tongues.

  145. So on my way to the camp, we stopped at

  146. this grocery store. It was a Hispanic grocery store, and

  147. we bought the biggest cow tongue you've ever seen. And

  148. when we got to camp, I started talking about tongues.

  149. The first thing I did is I pulled out that

  150. tongue and I went around and started trying to give

  151. people tongues. And they're like, ooh, you know, the girls

  152. were grossing out and everything because of the tongue. Today,

  153. maybe for you, you don't really understand the tongue thing,

  154. and when you hear about it, you kind of have

  155. that response like, ooh, whoa is that weird? What is that? Well,

  156. let me just make it real clear, because if you've

  157. ever been kind of weirded out or wondered what is

  158. this thing, I'm gonna make it real simple. It's not

  159. really a weird thing. Here's what the word tongues mean

  160. in the Bible language. So the Bible says that they

  161. were baptized by the Holy Spirit and they spoke in

  162. a spiritual or supernatural language. So y'all with me, that's

  163. what tongues is. So what I want to do today

  164. is talk about this baptism in the Holy Spirit or

  165. speaking in tongues. This gift that Jesus said was available

  166. to believers, and I want to make it real simple,

  167. So I'm going to teach on that today. Now, maybe

  168. you're thinking, well, why in the world would God give

  169. us tongues or you know, speaking in tongues. Well, here,

  170. here's what's interesting that Pastor Jack Hayfert, who kind of

  171. became a spiritual father to me for a season, and

  172. I love what he said about it. He says it

  173. this way. He says, when you think about God, is

  174. it really unreasonable to think that God would give us

  175. a way to worship and communicate with Him in a

  176. language or method that transcends our natural ability? How many

  177. believe that God does miracles. If God can heal the sick,

  178. then couldn't he give us a unique way to communicate

  179. with Him in a way that, by the way, maybe

  180. we don't understand what we're saying, but he does. And

  181. the cool thing about that is, not only maybe we

  182. don't understand, but the devil doesn't understand. He gives us

  183. this secret code to speak with him in a way

  184. that transcends our natural ability. So today we're going to

  185. talk about tongues. You with me, everybody, say amen. If

  186. you're not with me, just say amen. If you're ready

  187. for lunch, saymen. Okay, here we go. I'm gonna give

  188. you some real simple principles. We're gonna make this simple. Point.

  189. Number one, you don't have to speak in tongues or

  190. you don't have to have a spiritual language to be

  191. a Christian. All right, So let's get that straight right

  192. from the beginning. I'll never forget when we started Higher

  193. Vision Church, just like we were about a year and

  194. a half behind venture. We started after we were pastor

  195. Brandon and I Pessor Die, my wife. We were all

  196. in the same staff in Modesto, California. They were the

  197. youth pastors. We were the worship pastors. God spoke to

  198. Brandon and Die, let's go plant to church in Seattle.

  199. And then a year and a half later, God spoke

  200. to my wife and I to go to southern California

  201. and plant a church. And so when we first start

  202. to the church, we were growing. New people were coming

  203. and we would do this thing once a month called

  204. coffee with the pastor. It was kind of a chance

  205. to ask questions, and so we had this event and

  206. it just so happened. There was a good crowd there

  207. and this lady comes walking up and she says, you

  208. know what, My name is Trey, and you know, we

  209. really we came to the church last week for the

  210. first time, and we were kind of weirded out because

  211. we heard you guys speak in tongues. But when we

  212. went to the service, it was just like this normal,

  213. awesome service. And we've heard and do you believe this

  214. that you have to speak in tongues to go to heaven?

  215. And I said, no, that's not what we believe. And

  216. maybe you've wondered, well, what is the tongues thing? Do

  217. you have to speak in tongues to go to heaven?

  218. There's some denominations that actually believe that. Let me show

  219. you what the scripture says. First of all, Christians are

  220. born again through the Holy Spirit. I want to bring

  221. that up because I want to show you what it says.

  222. In John chapter three, Jesus says this. Jesus replied, I

  223. assure you, no one can enter the Kingdom of God

  224. without being born of water and the spirit. Humans can

  225. only reproduce human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth

  226. to spiritual life. Meaning when you accept Jesus, something happens.

  227. You get born again spiritually. How does that happen. It's

  228. through the power of the Spirit. So becoming a Christian

  229. happens because of the work of the Holy Spirit in

  230. your life. You are with me shot him man. Second

  231. thing is the Holy Spirit lives inside Christians. Look what

  232. the scripture says in or First Corinthians six nineteen. Don't

  233. you realize that your body is the temple, the dwelling

  234. place of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and

  235. was given to you by God. In other words, when

  236. you accept Jesus as Lord and Savior, you're filled with

  237. the Holy Spirit. So if you're a follower Jesus, you

  238. got the Holy Spirit inside of you. It reminds me

  239. of that song I got the joy jor jor joy

  240. down in my heart. Somebody you might know that song

  241. down in my heart, down in my heart, I got

  242. the joy, joy, the joy of the Holy Spirit. It's

  243. one of the fruit of the spirit, love joy. You

  244. have the Holy Spirit. And then the second verses and

  245. if the devil doesn't like it, he can sit on attack. Ouch. Okay,

  246. we won't sing that song anymore. Weird song. Weird song

  247. meaning if you have the Holy Spirit. That means it's

  248. proof that you're saved. If you're saved, you have the

  249. Holy Spirit. So you don't have to speak in tongues

  250. to go to heaven. Somebody like, oh, you're a little nervous.

  251. I'm not sure how I feel about that second thing.

  252. Point number two, the baptism of the Holy Spirit or

  253. speaking in tongues is four. Today, there are some in

  254. you know, Christian circles that don't believe that the miracles

  255. Jesus did and the promises Jesus made are necessarily for today.

  256. They were for back then, but they're not for now.

  257. They are called secessionists, and they believe that the gifts

  258. of the spirit, like Pastor talked about a while back,

  259. Pastor brand and the word of you know, healing, working

  260. of miracles, tongues, prophecy, those things are not for today.

  261. They believe that when the last Apostle died, those gifts

  262. died with them. So I want to address is tongues

  263. for today, And I'm just gonna simply go back to

  264. when tongues came and what Peter had to say about it.

  265. So if you ever Bible. Go with me. We're going

  266. to look at chapter two again. Remember they were all

  267. filled with holy spirit. They began to speak in tongues

  268. as a spirit of guy gave them mutrants. And then

  269. Peter gets up. The crowd gathered because they heard that

  270. wind saw the fire. They gather around. They're looking at

  271. the you know, the people speaking tongues. They're like, well,

  272. these guys are speaking in our own language from you know,

  273. another place like Africa and other parts of the world,

  274. and we're hearing them speaking other languages, and this is crazy.

  275. They must be drunken. And so Peter addresses that issue.

  276. Look what he says, acts chapter two, verse thirty eight.

  277. Then Peter said to them, repent, and let every one

  278. of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ

  279. for the remission of sins. And he says, and you

  280. will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Now look

  281. what he says for the promise, or another translation says

  282. for this promise. What's the promise speaking in tongues, it's

  283. the gift. Jesus said, go wait in Jerusalem. God's gonna

  284. give you a gift. And the gift happened to be

  285. them speaking in spiritual language, supernatural language. So he said,

  286. so this promise, because remember Peter before this gets up

  287. and says, when they gathered, they're like, what's going on

  288. with these guys drunk? He said, no, they're not drunk.

  289. It's the middle of the day. They're not drinking. This

  290. is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel in

  291. the last days. I'll pour it my spirit on all flesh.

  292. Sons and daughters will prophesy, young men will see visions,

  293. old men will dream dreams. He's saying that what they

  294. experienced was this gift God had for them. Speaking in tongue.

  295. So Peter says, repent, be baptized. He said, for the

  296. promise is for you and to your children. And to

  297. what's the next word? That was a little week for

  298. this later service. I thought, you guys are awake stright again.

  299. And to who all who are afar off? And then

  300. he clarifies who these ones who are far off? As

  301. many as the Lord our God will call. What does

  302. that mean? It means anyone who puts their faith in Jesus,

  303. anyone who becomes a Christian, any Christians in the house

  304. wave e me anyone who becomes a Christian, not just now,

  305. not just the next generation, but forever and ever and

  306. ever until Jesus returns. Anybody who becomes a Christian, this

  307. gift is for them. And it's like he's saying, I

  308. know down the road, I know people are skeptical. Even

  309. right now, they're saying they're drunk, They're saying, this is

  310. this is weird. I know that that's gonna happen. Even

  311. later on in history, people are gonna wonder. They're gonna go,

  312. is that strange. They're gonna have questions. So I want

  313. to make sure right now when it first happens, that

  314. for now and evermore, everybody knows this is available for everybody,

  315. for anyone. Turn to your neighbor and just tell him

  316. it's for everybody. Come on now, turn to your second

  317. choice so they don't feel left out, and say it's

  318. for everybody, even you. Peter is saying, this is a

  319. real experience, it's for the future, and it's for everybody.

  320. So you don't have to speak in tongues to be

  321. a Christian. You feel you have the spirit, but that

  322. gift it's for today. Point number three, y'all still with me?

  323. Shai Man point number three is this. I want to

  324. point out that the Apostles, the early Church, the leaders

  325. of the Church encouraged every Christian to experience it. You say, what,

  326. what do you mean. Well, wherever they would go, they

  327. would say, have you accepted Jesus? And they would say,

  328. have you experienced this Holy Spirit thing? Let me show

  329. you a story in the Book of Acts. So in

  330. the Book of Acts, God was moving and one of

  331. the deacons that were raised up, remember Stephen who was stoned.

  332. That means something different than some of you are thinking

  333. right now. What happened was is Philip, one of the deacons,

  334. went to Samaria. And when he gets to Samaria, what happens.

  335. He preaches the Gospel and revival breaks out. People are

  336. getting healed, people are getting saved. All these great things

  337. are happening. So when the Apostles hear about it, they're like,

  338. we need to send somebody down there to check this out.

  339. So they send Peter and John. I want you to

  340. see what happens. Now. When the Apostles were at Jerusalem,

  341. when they heard that Samaria had received the Word of God,

  342. they sent Peter John to them, who, when they had

  343. come down, prayed that they might receive the Holy Spirit.

  344. For as yet he had not fallen, had not fallen

  345. up on any of them, You'd fall on none of them.

  346. They had only been baptized in the name of the

  347. Lord Jesus. So what does the Bible say, So they

  348. laid their hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit.

  349. Now you say, well, they doesn't say they've spoken tons. Well,

  350. in their mind, the only thing they knew that was

  351. evidence that they had received the spirit, at least at

  352. this time, was that people began to speak in tones.

  353. So when they get there, they say, well, yes, they've

  354. accepted Jesus, but they have have they encountered this gift?

  355. They haven't. So we're gonna lay hands on them, We're

  356. going to pray on them. They receive it. In fact,

  357. if you keep reading, it tells us even more clearly

  358. that that's what they were looking for. Because remember the

  359. guy Simon the Sorcerer. He was there and he watched

  360. them lay hands on people. And when they laid hands

  361. on people, he immediately go, WHOA, that's cool. Why did

  362. he think it's cool if they just laid their hands

  363. on him prayed for him. They had been Hallelujah and

  364. that's it. He would have been no big deal. But

  365. he saw them what speak in tones? So what does

  366. Simon the sorcerer say, Hey, can I pay you some money?

  367. And so you and give me that gift so I

  368. can do that, I can lay my hands on people

  369. and they can speak in tongues. And Peter turns to

  370. him and said, your motives are wrong, and he curses that.

  371. And the point that I'm making from this story, there's

  372. a lot there we could talk about. But was that

  373. Listen when you received Jesus, there's more available for you.

  374. Paul even said this way, He said, I wish everybody

  375. spoke in tongues. He said, I speak in tongues more

  376. than everybody, and I want you to do the same.

  377. It reminds me of a story. So Pastor brand and

  378. I have spent a lot of time this week together

  379. and we've gone and had some pretty cool meals. In fact,

  380. yesterday we went to the game and we went to

  381. this club where they had all kinds of cool food

  382. and it was awesome. And I found out something that

  383. I really didn't know about Pastor Brandon. I am a

  384. massive ice cream connoisseur. I love ice cream. Do you

  385. have any people that love ice cream in the house.

  386. You do know that they're going to serve that in heaven.

  387. So if you didn't raise your hand, just start practicing

  388. now for eternity. So yesterday Pastor Brandon wanted some ice cream.

  389. It was hot, and so found out he liked ice cream.

  390. It reminded me of a story. So there's a barbecue

  391. place in southern California. It's a chain. It's kind of

  392. all over, but it's called Loose Seals. Anybody here ever

  393. been to Lucial's Barbecue? Okay, we got a few. They

  394. have these amazing big ribs. Food's good. And so one

  395. time I brought a friend of mine who was like me,

  396. who really loves ice cream. I brought him there and

  397. we ate this massive meal. I mean we ate so much,

  398. just ribs, and I was so good. And afterwards, I'm like, dude,

  399. how you doing. He's like, oh, I'm so full. And

  400. I'm like, well, are you too full for ice cream?

  401. He's like, well maybe not. You know, you know, people

  402. that love ice cream just can find a little extra room.

  403. And so I said, well, do have you heard of

  404. the Snickers pie? What is the Snicker's Pie? Well, if

  405. you've ever been there. It is an ice cream dessert

  406. that's ice cream with Snickers all in it. It's like

  407. a peanut butter ice cream with Snickers chopped up and

  408. in there on this crust that's made of chocolate, kind

  409. of like almost chocolate Graham crackers kind of a thing.

  410. And then it's got this car all dribbled or drizzle

  411. across the top of Anybody getting hungry as I'm talking,

  412. and so I'm like, I'm gonna order the pie. So

  413. I ordered the pie and it was like, man, as

  414. you know, as soon as he saw it, he kind

  415. of had one of those Scooby Doo moments like Reggy right,

  416. You're like, what is this? And so we start chawing

  417. down and and he's like, oh man, that's awesome. I'm

  418. never gonna eat here again without ordering the Snicker pie.

  419. Because here's the point. Jesus doesn't want you to just

  420. eat the ribs. He wants you to get the Snickers pie. There,

  421. Jesus says, there's more the the you know the graphic

  422. that was here earlier, There's more. If God has Snickers pie,

  423. then why are you just settling for the ribs? God

  424. said there's more more available. The apostles are saying, there's more. Yes,

  425. you received Jesus, you've been baptized. Let me ask the question,

  426. how many of you and water have been baptized? Okay,

  427. only two of you. We need to have a baptismal

  428. service tonight. How many have been baptized together? They see this,

  429. man ask okay, but Jesus said, that's good. The pastors said,

  430. that's good. But there's more. They encouraged it. And let

  431. me tell you why, because you might say, well, why

  432. is that a big deal? Why is this speaking in

  433. tongues things or baptism and only spirit things. What benefit

  434. is there for me? Well, let's go through. I'm gonna

  435. tell it to you quickly. Number one. The first benefit

  436. is this, it's a miraculous sign. It shows the miraculous

  437. hand of God in your life. When you speak in

  438. a language that you don't know. In the day of Pentecost,

  439. they were speaking in languages they didn't know. And we

  440. also know that it wasn't just a language you didn't know,

  441. a known language that you'd never learned, but it also

  442. could be an unknown language that nobody understood. That's what

  443. we also find in the Book of Acts. Why let

  444. me explain it this way. So several years ago, my

  445. brother he went to he's a pastor, worked on staff

  446. for us for a few years. Pastor's an amazing church

  447. in Dallas, now Oversaw Denomination. Just you know, God's used

  448. him in many cool ways. I'll never forget. One year

  449. he went to Brazil and led a team on missions,

  450. and when they got there, you know, everybody speaks Portuguese,

  451. and they ask him to preach that night. He gets

  452. up to preach the message and preaches the message through

  453. a translator and calls people forward for prayer. He starts

  454. going around praying for people. And when he gets to

  455. certain people, you know, he doesn't have a translator in translating,

  456. so he would just pray over them in English. But

  457. sometimes he'd just pray in the spirit. And this one lady,

  458. as he saw her, he just felt prompted. He put

  459. his hand on her and began to pray for her,

  460. and he began to pray in tongues, pray in the spirit.

  461. He prayed for He prayed for her, and amazingly, she

  462. just broke down and began to weep and cry. And

  463. He's like, well, God, must be touching her, and he

  464. moved on in the prayer line, went back to the

  465. hotel that night, and as he was just thumbing through

  466. his facebooks, saw a message, so it popped up for

  467. him and put translate on there, and it was this

  468. woman and she had messaged him and she said, Pastor Wyman,

  469. I wanted to share with you, thank you so much

  470. for your prayers over me in Portuguese tonight. And he's like,

  471. wait a minute, I don't speak Portuguese. And she began

  472. to tell a story how that God had spoke to

  473. her and called her into the mission field, but she

  474. was questioning whether that was God. She was questioning whether

  475. she could do it. It was a big step of faith.

  476. She was questioning whether she had the ability to leave

  477. everything to go off into the mission field as full

  478. time ministry. And she said it was crazy. Because as

  479. he laid her hands on her and began to pray,

  480. he was praying in Portuguese, prophesying that God had called

  481. her into the mission field and that he was going

  482. to provide everything she needed, and that the things that

  483. needed to happen would happen, and she would go forward

  484. and do everything God called her to do, and she

  485. broke down and cried, Well, it was a miraculous sign

  486. that God was all over the calling on her life.

  487. Point is is that God uses those gifts for miraculous signs.

  488. The second reason that this is something that maybe God

  489. wants for us because number two, it edifies the church.

  490. The Scripture tells us in First Corinthians chapter fourteen, verse four,

  491. or I'm sorry in First Corinthians chapter twelve through verse

  492. or chapter fourteen, it says that when someone speaks in

  493. tongues in a service, and I'll explain it in a minute,

  494. and then there's an interpretation. It says, it's done to

  495. edify the church. Now, if you never grew up in

  496. a kind of Pentecostal church, in an old school Pentecostal churches,

  497. sometimes in a service, someone would get what they call

  498. a tongue, and it wasn't just their personal prayer language

  499. praying to God in tongues. It was a prophetic message

  500. for the church. So the church would get quiet, the

  501. person would speak out loud in tongues as everybody listened,

  502. and then the Bible says, according to Paul, there should

  503. be an interpretation, not a translation word for word, but

  504. God would give someone what that message was about, and

  505. so then that person would share out loud that prophetic

  506. message that God had for the church. And he said

  507. that was a gift used to edify the church, kind

  508. of like prophecy. God will speak. Just a moment ago

  509. in the worship, I said, there's somebody here who has

  510. a door that you've been trying to get through. And

  511. remember when I shared that, that's a prophetic message. So

  512. that is done. What to edify? The word edify means

  513. to build like legos, it builds up the church. I

  514. mean the church needs to be strong. It builds strong.

  515. So the gift is to edify the church. I'll give

  516. you an example several years ago at Higher Vision. We

  517. don't have tongues and interpretation happen in the services of fact.

  518. I think it's only happened maybe twice in twenty years

  519. of the church. But there was a specific time where

  520. the things got quiet, someone gave a prophetic word and

  521. then the Lord gave me the interpretation. And the interpretation

  522. was kind of like what I spoke a moment ago.

  523. I said, there's somebody here that needs a miracle, and

  524. you've been trying to see this thing change, and God's

  525. gonna on Monday morning give you your miracle, and you're

  526. gonna see things change. The door's going to open, You're

  527. going to have what you need. And I began to prophesy.

  528. In fact, I looked at the camera and I said,

  529. somebody watching online, I'm talking to you right now. And

  530. this was a message God gave me from this you

  531. know this tongue that was given. So we went on

  532. with the service, didn't think anything about it. And then

  533. Monday morning we got an email from Sweden. Anybody here

  534. from Sweden, glad that you that came today, and I'm

  535. the Here's what the message said. I was watching online

  536. yesterday from Sweden, and you gave that prophetic word. And

  537. I had a meeting on Monday morning that I had

  538. been working towards for a long long time. I tried

  539. to get the answer. I tried to get the deal.

  540. I'd tried to close the deal. I tried to and

  541. it had been had just been failure after failure after failure,

  542. but it just so happened on Monday morning. I had

  543. my meeting, I shut up from my meeting, and miraculously

  544. we got the job. And your prophetic word came to

  545. pass you thankful that God cares about the little things

  546. in our life, that he wants to build up the church.

  547. But not only does it build and edify the church.

  548. Here's the third thing. God wants this gift. The apostles

  549. leadership of the church want it for us as Christians.

  550. Why because it edifies us, it'll edify you. Did you

  551. know that when you pray in spiritual language, you pray

  552. in tongues, it builds you up. Let me show you first.

  553. Corinthians chapter four fourteen, verse four says this, he who

  554. speaks in a tongue edifies himself. That means to build up.

  555. So when you pray in tongues, you're getting stronger. It's

  556. like doing push ups or curls or whatever pull ups.

  557. You're getting stronger spiritually. Anybody want to get stronger spiritually.

  558. Another example of this can be found in June chapter twenty,

  559. when he says, build yourself up in your most holy faith,

  560. praying in the Holy Spirit. So when we pray in

  561. the Holy Spirit, it builds us up. God wants it

  562. for you. There's another reason why the Apostles encouraged that

  563. for everyone is because it helps you pray the perfect

  564. will of God. Let me here, Have ever had a

  565. situation that you're praying about, but you just didn't know

  566. what God's will was? Do I take the job or

  567. not take the job? Do I move or not move?

  568. Is that the person God has for me? Or am

  569. I supposed to find someone else? Lord? What is the plan? Well,

  570. let me show you what it says in the Book

  571. of Romans. If you have a Bible, everybody go with me.

  572. Romans Chapter eight, verse twenty six and twenty seven says

  573. that this says it this way. Likewise, the Spirit helps

  574. us in our weakness, for we do not know what

  575. we should pray for as we ought, But the Spirit

  576. himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

  577. A lot of theologians that believe in tongues and this

  578. gift that we talked about today believe this. This is referencing

  579. how the Holy Spirit will pray through us. He prays

  580. for us. And then it goes on to say how

  581. now he who searches the heart knows what the mind

  582. of the spirit is, because he makes intercession for the

  583. saints according to the will of God, meaning that when

  584. the Holy Spirit prays through you. You're praying the perfect

  585. will of God. So if you don't know how you

  586. should pray, pray in tons and then you will be

  587. praying perfectly in alignment with the will of God. Let

  588. me give you a cool story. This is a story

  589. about my mom. My mom is in her eighties and

  590. she travels to Africa. She's been doing it for twenty years.

  591. She's helped build churches there, she's done medical missions there.

  592. In fact, she just went last year, middle of her eighties,

  593. flying all the way across the country and across the

  594. globe to go. I've always admired her for that. There's

  595. a man over there in Kenya. His name is Bishop Natuka.

  596. He pastors a church and now he's kind of retired,

  597. but he has several churches, like one hundred and fifty

  598. churches that are under him. Well, my mom would go

  599. every year, and so it just so happened. This is

  600. several years ago. She woke up in the middle of

  601. the night when she was here in America, and she

  602. had this immediate urgency pray for Bishop Natuka. But she

  603. didn't know what God's will was, She didn't know what

  604. she was praying for. She couldn't pick up the phone

  605. and call him, so she just starts praying in tongues

  606. and as she's praying in the spirit, she feels like

  607. just this heaviness and like she's got to pray, and

  608. so she just keeps praying. She keeps praying. Well, eventually

  609. that urgency lifts. She feels like it's okay to quit praying,

  610. and she finishes her prayer and goes back to sleep.

  611. A few months later, she forgot about it. A few

  612. months later, Bishop Natuca's assistant happens to be in America.

  613. He's traveling around and he stops by to see my parents.

  614. They're out to lunch, and my mom just randomly says,

  615. you know, it's so weird. But a couple months ago,

  616. I was in bed in the middle of the night,

  617. I was praying. I woke up and felt the Holy

  618. Spirit tell me to pray for Bishop Natuca. I start

  619. praying in tongues and she starts telling him the story.

  620. And as she's telling this, his eyes get big and

  621. she's look at him, like, what's going on. He goes

  622. tell me the exact time and day. So she tells

  623. him the exact time and the exact day, because you

  624. know it's different over there than it is here with time.

  625. And he said, you're not going to believe this. She said,

  626. what so well years ago, and I'm going to pause

  627. the story and if you want to the end, you

  628. have to come back tonight. I'm teasing. Okay, we'll keep

  629. going into it. So what happens, she said, He told

  630. the story. He said Bishop Natuka was going to a

  631. prayer meeting in Kenya. A lot of churches had come

  632. together to pray. There's some stuff going on with the government,

  633. so they called this massive prayer meeting. Bishop Natuka had

  634. a group of intercessors from the church that were following

  635. him towards the front left of the stage. That's where

  636. he was going to pray. And in the middle of

  637. walking to the exact time, my mom woke up and

  638. started praying in the spirit. He stops and goes, you

  639. know what, I think we're not supposed to pray there.

  640. I think we need to go pray over there. So

  641. they turn around and they start walking to pray on

  642. the other side of the area where they're at and

  643. thirty seconds later, a bomb went off on the corner

  644. of the stage and killed several people assume you're like,

  645. is that a true story, asked my mom, true story.

  646. I know that's a little bit crazy, huh. But she

  647. didn't know what she's praying, but the spirit prayed the

  648. perfect will of God through her. What incredible prayers do

  649. you need to pray concerning your family, concerning your future,

  650. concerning this city, concerning your leadership. If you allowed this

  651. gift that God has available to you, allow the Holy

  652. Spirit to pray through you in alignment with the will

  653. of God. Some me said, but I don't know what

  654. to pray, or I don't know what even I'm understanding

  655. what I'm saying. Well, look what First Corinthians fourteen says

  656. and verse fourteen. For if I pray in a tongue,

  657. my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful. I don't understand.

  658. So what should I do. I will pray in the spirit,

  659. I'll pray in tongues, but I'll also pray with my understanding.

  660. I will sing with my spirit, and I'll also sing

  661. with my understanding. God has given you a gift to

  662. give you the ability to pray the perfect will of

  663. God every time you pray. That's why God says there's

  664. more somebody shout him, man, I'll give you the last

  665. two and then we're going to bring this to a close.

  666. Another reason why the Apostles wanted us to experience this

  667. gift is because it gives you power to share your

  668. testimony to witness, Jesus said, and you will receive power

  669. after that the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And then

  670. we learned a story about Peter who was afraid what

  671. changed Pastor Brandon preached on. He was afraid to even

  672. mention that he knew Jesus, And now he stands up

  673. in front of thousands of people, calls them a stiff

  674. neck generation, and declares the gospel. Why because the Holy Spirit.

  675. When you are filled and baptized with the Holy Spirit,

  676. what happens. It gives you more boldness and more power

  677. to share your faith. Some of you been struggling with

  678. the ability. You've been too afraid to really share your faith. Well,

  679. if you get baptized in the Holy Spirit, guess what,

  680. There's gonna be a fire. There's gonna be a power

  681. inside of you that helps you to rise up and

  682. share the gospel and tell people the good news about Jesus.

  683. The last reason is it's a method for praising God.

  684. Did you know on the day of Pentecost, it tells

  685. us what they were saying. You ever thought about what

  686. were they saying on that day? They're speaking in other tongues.

  687. Actually there were known languages that they hadn't learned, kind

  688. of like my brother. The Bible tells us they were

  689. declaring the wonderful works of God. So you don't have

  690. to be a Christian. I mean, I'm sorry, you do

  691. have to be a Christian if you want to go

  692. to heaven. You don't have to speak in tongues to

  693. be a Christian, Okay, to get to heaven. Number two,

  694. the Holy Spirit, the gifts of the Spirit tongues is

  695. for today. Thirdly, the leadership who started the church want

  696. you to experience the snicker's pie. And Lastly, the Holy

  697. Spirit will speak through you, but not for you. I

  698. want you to see what the scripture says in next

  699. chapter two. When they received this gift, watch what happens

  700. and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and

  701. began to speak with other tongues as the Spirit gave

  702. them utterance. Professor Jack Hayfert explain this this Greek word

  703. this way they spoke in tongues as the Holy Spirit

  704. gave them what to say, meaning that the Holy Spirit

  705. doesn't take over your tongue and control it for you.

  706. He gives you what to say, but you have to say.

  707. It reminds me of growing up. I was grown up,

  708. but my kids were growing up up, and we'd come

  709. together at Christmas for this big family event. We'd stay

  710. several days at my parents' house and all the grandkids

  711. were together Christmas, and at one point on one of

  712. the evenings, my dad would pull out Fred the Frog.

  713. I don't have Fred the Frog today. I have mister

  714. paper machine or whatever, mister paper bag. And here's the

  715. interesting thing. If you've ever seen, you know, like a

  716. one of those they call him a dummy or they

  717. you know, a puppet or whatever, sometimes what you'll see

  718. is you'll see a ventriloquist that'll speak for the puppet

  719. right and be like, hello, thanks for coming today. That's

  720. kind of the way, you know, ventriloquist, And they try

  721. to do what that moves me in their mouth, Hello,

  722. thanks for coming today. You know, well, Fred the Frog

  723. and my dad didn't do it that way. Here's how

  724. they did it. Fred the Frog would look around the room,

  725. and he'd look at one of the grandkids, like Macy,

  726. and then he'd do this and the whisper into my

  727. dad's ear, and then my dad would say, Macy, Fred

  728. the Frog said he heard that you learned about that dance,

  729. and he wants you to do it for the other grandkids.

  730. And then Macy would get all excited. You should get

  731. up and her do dance, and we'd all laugh, and

  732. then he'd go and my dad would say, oh, Haley,

  733. Fred just told me. See, that's kind of how it

  734. works with the Holy Spirit. He's not going to force you.

  735. He's not going to do it for you, but he'll

  736. give you what to say, and then you have to

  737. step out in faith and say it. When I was

  738. eight years old, someone prayed for me to receive the

  739. Baptist the Holy Spirit. As an eight year old child,

  740. can you know what happened? I started hearing words, and

  741. I question, is that me? Or is that God? Let

  742. me just pause and say, if you're asking or someone

  743. prays for you to receive the Holy Spirit and suddenly

  744. random words that you don't understand come into your conscience,

  745. it's probably not you, and it's probably not the devil

  746. because you did, weren't thinking of those words before that

  747. unction or that desire, that passion, those things come upon you,

  748. then you have to choose to speak. The meaning of

  749. that is they spoke in tongues as the Spirit gave

  750. them mutreans. In other words, they spoke as Holy Spirit

  751. gave them what to say. The Holy Spirit will speak

  752. through you, but he won't speak for you. And so

  753. let me just say today we're gonna take a moment

  754. and we're going to pray, and it just might happen

  755. that today in this room, on the other side of

  756. that screen, as we pray, that you receive the Holy Spirit,

  757. the baptistm and Holy Spirit. Maybe something's gonna happen to you. Now.

  758. Sometimes people feel it. You don't have to feel it

  759. to experience it. Sometimes people do. Sometimes their lips will stammer.

  760. I've seen that. Sometimes they get anybody ever got ducky

  761. bumps in church? Okay? Two people kind of feel the

  762. Holy Spirit. You feel God. Sometimes you feel it, sometimes

  763. you don't. The question is when the Holy Spirit begins

  764. to activate and work in your heart and your mind,

  765. if he gives you the words, will you speak those words?

  766. Will you be baptized. Will you give that utterance tonight,

  767. at this awesome night, We're gonna believe, we're gonna pray,

  768. We're gonna have team members up here, and you can

  769. come and have someone lay hands on you. But I'm

  770. gonna tell you someone doesn't have to lay hands on you.

  771. We've had people driving home from church suddenly start speaking

  772. in tones. We've had people literally in the shower suddenly

  773. starts speaking in tongues. Listen, it's not a scary thing.

  774. It's a powerful thing. Why would you just want the

  775. ribs when there's more? Today? I want you to close

  776. your eyes. I don't want to ask an important question.

  777. Maybe you're here today and you can't say that you

  778. really are a Christian. You don't have the spirit of

  779. God inside of you. You're not the temple of the

  780. Holy Spirit. The reason is you've never invited Jesus to

  781. come into your life. You've never asked him to forgive

  782. you of your sins. The reason people aren't Christians is

  783. because they haven't received Jesus. And the reason for that

  784. is sin. We all sin and fall short. Everybody here

  785. has made mistakes, and the Bible says that, well, if

  786. we have the courage to acknowledge it, admit it, confess

  787. our sins. He's faithful and just to forgive us and

  788. cleanse us. Today you could be forgiven. You know, if

  789. you're honest with yourself, you have to know that there's

  790. a burden that you're carrying of the things you've done

  791. in life that are wrong. We've all done things wrong,

  792. every one of us. No one can say we haven't.

  793. But the Bible says we have the courage to confess

  794. that and repent of that. Here's what happened. Jesus will

  795. wipe the slate clean. You can walk out of here.

  796. You can turn off that screen and every mistake you've

  797. ever ever made is erased. You can start fresh. And

  798. then if the Bible says this, if you call on

  799. the name of the Lord, you will be saved. You

  800. can know you're on your way to heaven. And you

  801. know what will happen in that moment. Fill with the

  802. Holy Spirit, and let me tell you need the Holy Spirit,

  803. because the Bible says the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, gentleness, goodness, faith, meetness, temperance. Man,

  804. you want those things in your life. God will empower

  805. you with great gifts the fruit of the spirit. The

  806. gifts of the spirit can be yours, but you have

  807. to know Jesus. So today, if you're here and you've

  808. never accepted Jesus, if you've never confessed your sins, I'm

  809. talking to you. Or maybe you have, but you've walked

  810. away like the prodigal, and you need to come back

  811. and recommit yourself to Christ. When I say three, raise

  812. your hand, and then we'll all pray a prayer together

  813. admitting I'm a sinner and I need a savior. I

  814. admit I made mistakes and I need Jesus. I want

  815. the Holy Spirit. I want to know that I can

  816. go to heaven. So you're ready, whether it's the first

  817. time or recommitment. I'm gonna count to three, and this

  818. is your moment. God has brought you here for this reason. Today,

  819. are you ready on the count of three? One you

  820. can be forgiven. Two you can be filled with His spirit. No,

  821. you're on your way to heaven. Where are you on three?

  822. Right now? Three? Raise your hands all across this room?

  823. Where are you? Thank you? Thank you? Who else today?

  824. Thank you? Thank you who else today? Thank you? Thank you,

  825. thank you over there, thank you over there. Thank you.

  826. Over there. Anybody else say yes, pastor, you're talking to me, Jared,

  827. anybody else to see it. Thank you. I see the hand,

  828. Thank you. I see that hand. Anybody else say yes,

  829. you're talking to me. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

  830. I see the hand. Thank you. Up there, thank you,

  831. thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you. I see

  832. that hand, thank you, thank you. I see that hand.

  833. All right, you can put your hands down. Now when

  834. everyone to pray. This prayer of the mouse says, confess

  835. with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe in your heart.

  836. Say this, Say Jesus. Come on, everybody, even on the

  837. other side of that screen, screen, say Jesus. Today, I confess.

  838. I've sinned, I've made mistakes. I need a savior come

  839. into my life, cleanse me, forgive me. I put my hope,

  840. I put my faith. I put my trust in you

  841. as a Son of God and the savior of the world.

  842. Starting today, I will follow you in your name. I pray,

  843. and everybody shouted. Come on, give the Lord a handclap

  844. of praise. Heaven's rejoicing right now, come on, let's celebrate. Hallelujah.

  845. Guess what you just got filled with the Holy Spirit.

  846. Thank you Jesus. Now here's what I'm gonna do before

  847. I turn it back to Morgan. I want everyone, everyone

  848. in this room, everyone joining us online. I want you

  849. to just reach your hands towards Heaven for just a second,

  850. and I want to pray for you, just like the

  851. apostles prayed in Samaria. God. The first thing I pray

  852. as our hands are extended, or we lift our hands

  853. sometimes as a sign of surrender, and for some of

  854. us we need to surrender our bias, our fear. Well,

  855. that's weird, or I don't know much about that, that's

  856. kind of scary, or maybe it's we were taught that

  857. it's not for today, or maybe it's just we're apathetic, like, well,

  858. this is enough I got forgiven and I'm just gonna

  859. get to Heaven by the skin of my teeth. No, Lord,

  860. I want more, and so Father, today I pray you

  861. would break off of us that thing that says I'm

  862. settling for where I am. But God, give us a

  863. hunger for more, Remove every excuse, remove every apathetic thought

  864. or desire, and give us a passion. Stir up the fire. God,

  865. stir up the fire, the passion, the zeal of your

  866. spirit within us. Lord, I also break Lord, doubt and unbelief.

  867. Lord your word. When we know the truth, it sets

  868. us free. And some people have not stepped into this

  869. new arena because Lord, we haven't have the faith. We've

  870. been fearful, or we've doubted. Father, Today we break all doubt,

  871. We break all fear and release right now. You said

  872. you can every person a measure of faith. Increase our

  873. measure of faith right now, to believe that every good

  874. and perfect gift comes from the Father of Love. To

  875. believe that today you have something for us. Father. Now

  876. I pray, Lord, We're not going to try to do

  877. it in our own strength, but Lord, if you speak

  878. to us, then we'll let you speak through us. And

  879. what I'm gonna do right now is I'm gonna pray.

  880. As I pause that prayer, I'm gonna say, receive the

  881. Holy Spirit. And if you're here right now joining us online,

  882. and the Holy Spirit starts speaking things into your spirit,

  883. I want to encourage you just begin to whisper those

  884. things out and begin to speak those things out. Tonight

  885. we're gonna spend more time doing this, but today just

  886. might be the moment. Are you ready receive the Holy Spirit.

  887. Receive his baptism now in jesus name, speak it out.

  888. I'm not saying loud for everyone to hear. I'm talking

  889. about the gift of tongue and interpretation. But your language,

  890. your spiritual language, speak it out, speak it out, speak

  891. it out, speak it out, speak it out right now.

  892. The Holy Spirit will speak through you, but not for you.

  893. So Lord we speak. Hallelujah, hallelujah. Father, I thank you

  894. for what you're doing in this place. This is the seed.

  895. This is the beginning of a powerful baptism that's going

  896. to carry into tonight and in the days ahead. In

  897. Jesus' name. Once you look at me, some of you,

  898. maybe you've sent something but you were afraid to step out.

  899. You watch maybe on the way home, maybe in the car.

  900. Maybe tonight, there's going to be a release, I says.

  901. If there's rivers of living water, it's going to bubble up,

  902. release it and release His power in your life. It's

  903. time for us to go after more. Shout Amen, God,

  904. bless you. You know.

  905. I was just thinking that we've had a lot of

  906. revival Sundays adventure, but I I just can't help but

  907. feel like the Holy Spirit wants to do something new

  908. in our church. He wants to do something new in

  909. your life. And Pastor Jared spoke it right there at

  910. the end. Sometimes we have to remove a spirit of

  911. apathy to make room for the Holy Spirit to have

  912. more domain in our life. And so maybe you're here

  913. and you weren't planning on coming tonight.

  914. I just want to speak that.

  915. Over you, remove whatever is holding you back, and come

  916. get more of who He is for your life tonight.

  917. Amen, he has.

  918. More for you, He has more for our church. I

  919. believe he's going to do some great things tonight, and

  920. so we want to invite you back at six pm.

  921. Can we just think Pastor Jared one more time for

  922. that word?

  923. Well.

  924. I also want to direct you to our What's Next

  925. page on the app because every week we provide you

  926. with some really practical tools, some great resources that you

  937. give them a regular tithes and offerings, but we also

  938. give above and beyond towards Kingdom Builders, which goes to

  939. expand global mission, it goes to really investing in our

  940. neighborhood in our region here, and it goes into raising

  941. up leaders here through Venture Church. And we want to

  942. thank you for your continued generosity here at Venture. I

  943. want to pray and we'll pass these buckets. There's short

  944. video that'll play and we'll get you guys out of here,

  945. But would you just pray with me this morning? Father, God,

  946. thank you so much for who you are. God, Thank

  947. you for your word in our life that transforms who

  948. we are. God, we ask for more of you, And

  949. as we ask for more of you, got we lay

  950. down with the world, got you greater than all of it.

  951. And so Father, we give to you today with cheerful hearts.

  952. God, ready to see.

  953. Your work be spread through our world and here in

  954. our Church. God, we love you, We praise you, bless

  955. each gift in every giver in Jesus name. And everyone said, Amen.

  956. We pursue God. We chase after God. We pursue the

  957. Holy Spirit. The same Holy Spirit I raised Jesus from

  958. the dead is still active in moving into life today,

  959. is with in us. He's in our church. Amen.
