  1. This morning we are continuing in our

  2. series of lessons entitled Shadows to

  3. Substance. Now, as mentioned, this

  4. series I was thinking about at the end

  5. of last year, closing it out, but we are

  6. continuing with some encouragement from

  7. others. And uh I do have at least one

  8. more lesson that I'm going to uh also

  9. share with you in this series, and

  10. that'll be Lord's will next Sunday

  11. morning. Um may maybe two more. We'll

  12. see. Yeah, still thinking. uh but uh as

  13. we have certainly noted and I have

  14. enjoyed doing this particular series and

  15. I I appreciate so much those who have

  16. shared uh with me uh as well how much we

  17. have learned together in endeavoring in

  18. this study about how from the beginning

  19. that God has been teaching us through

  20. shadows and again that's temporary

  21. pictures that that are pointing forward

  22. to something greater. Uh I want us to

  23. note that God has always been a God who

  24. teaches his people patiently.

  25. Uh he does not overwhelm us all at once

  26. with the fullness of his plan. I think

  27. that's what's really just amazing to me.

  28. uh because what we have found in this

  29. series is that he has revealed his will,

  30. his plan progressively

  31. and I would even call it layer by layer

  32. using real events, real people, real

  33. elements to prepare our hearts for

  34. spiritual truth. And and these are what

  35. scripture refers to again types and

  36. shadows realities that are genuine in

  37. their own time yet intentionally they

  38. are designed to point forward to again

  39. something far greater. Now from the

  40. opening verses of the Bible to the final

  41. pages of Revelation something we're

  42. talking about this morning

  43. is that of water.

  44. water in the Old as well as the New

  45. Testament that again

  46. flows through God's redemptive plan. It

  47. appears again and again and again. And I

  48. submit to you, it's not random.

  49. It's intentional.

  50. Because when we start getting down to

  51. it, water sustains life. cleanses

  52. impurity, refreshes the weary, and also

  53. it separates the living from the dead.

  54. And because of this, God repeatedly uses

  55. water as a teaching instrument. And

  56. again, that's what we're going to be

  57. going through is a shadow pointing

  58. forward to spiritual realities that

  59. would be fulfilled in Christ. Now, and

  60. and we will find that water in the Bible

  61. is never just water. Okay? Uh, in this

  62. lesson, we're we're following the the

  63. flow of scripture to see how God used

  64. water as a shadow of cleansing, of

  65. salvation, of of new life that's

  66. fulfilled in Christ. As God repeatedly

  67. uses water to teach us about his work in

  68. salvation.

  69. And when we trace water through the

  70. Bible, we discover that again, notice

  71. it's not random.

  72. It always appears at moments of

  73. transition. If there's anything I could

  74. say, keep that in mind. Moments of

  75. transition. That's going to play a huge

  76. role in what we're talking about this

  77. morning. Where moments where God is

  78. moving his people from one state to

  79. another.

  80. So to understand what God is teaching us

  81. through water, we must begin where the

  82. Bible begins and that is at creation.

  83. life brought from chaos. You know, when

  84. you go back and right there in Genesis

    Genesis 1 chapter mention

  85. chapter 1, it's familiar, right? In the

  86. beginning, God created the heavens and

  87. the earth, right? Genesis 1 and verse

  88. one tells us that. But then, of course,

  89. when you think about before there is

  90. light, before there's land, before

  91. there's life, what what is what what's

  92. what is the spirit of God doing?

  93. Hovering. Look at this. Look at verse

  94. two, Genesis 1. The earth was without

  95. form and void and darkness was on the

  96. face of the deep and the spirit of God

  97. was hovering over the face of what? The

  98. waters.

  99. Now what you see is you get a scene of

  100. disorder. You get a you get a scene of

  101. of emptiness. Again it's what's being

  102. said. It's without form. It's void.

  103. But the waters are present

  104. but nothing yet is formed.

  105. So then as you go through the passage,

  106. God speaks

  107. and order comes from chaos. Life emerges

  108. where there was none.

  109. But there was water, wasn't there? Now

  110. this teaches us something obviously

  111. about found that's foundational. And I

  112. would say that life originates with God.

  113. Obviously, not with the waters

  114. themselves. The water is the setting.

  115. But again, remember who's the source?

  116. God's the source from the very

  117. beginning. God shows that transformation

  118. happens when he moves.

  119. That water itself became the environment

  120. in which God's creative power was being

  121. revealed.

  122. Now, this is not a mere historical

  123. detail. All right? Um, what you're

  124. finding when you start here is you're

  125. you're you're seeing basically

  126. established spiritual pattern that's

  127. going to appear again and again and

  128. again. When God begins something new,

  129. don't don't forget this part either,

  130. okay? When God begins something new, he

  131. often does so in connection with water.

  132. Creation itself

  133. prepares us to see water as a place

  134. where God brings life out of disorder,

  135. out of something without form and void.

  136. But creation is only the beginning

  137. because as you go through and we know as

  138. we've talked about Adam and Eve and such

  139. that that as Shini falls

  140. sin of course

  141. water takes on an even deeper role

  142. doesn't it?

  143. Now we're going to fast forward a

  144. moment. We're going to fast forward to

  145. Genesis chapter 6 and you're going to

    Genesis 6 chapter mention

  146. take us through chapter 9. Again, for

  147. our time this morning, we're not going

  148. to read all Genesis 6 through9, but if

  149. you're following along and you're doing

  150. the scripture reading for the Bible for

  151. the year, uh, as our our our plan that

  152. we have here for the year, read your

  153. Bible in a year, then you've read

  154. Genesis 6 through9 as well already. And

  155. that has to do with the flood, right?

  156. Genesis 6 through9 covers talking about

  157. the flood. And and how water is used in

  158. this is not only as judgment, but it's

  159. also salvation, right? So I want us to

  160. note Genesis 6 and look at verses 5-8.

  161. Genesis 6 5-8 as as we find that the

  162. world has become filled with corruption

  163. and violence. Notice it with me. Then

  164. the Lord saw that the wickedness of man

  165. was great in the earth and that every

  166. intent of the thoughts of his heart was

  167. only evil continually. And the Lord was

  168. sorry that he had made man on the earth.

  169. And he was grieved in his heart. So the

  170. Lord said, "I will destroy man whom I

  171. have created from the face of the earth,

  172. both man and beast, creeping thing and

  173. birds of the air. For I am sorry that I

  174. have made them, but Noah found grace in

  175. the eyes of the Lord." Now obviously as

  176. we know with with that of the wickedness

  177. that God determines to make judgment on

  178. that sinfulness, on that wickedness of

  179. humanity, and he does so through the

  180. flood. Now the waters rise and the world

  181. that existed before is destroyed.

  182. But at the time the very waters that

  183. bring judgment also did something else.

  184. It lifted the ark

  185. wherein Noah and his family were safely

  186. inside. Right? We remember that. And of

  187. course the animals that God had told

  188. instructed Noah to to prepare to

  189. preserve.

  190. Now what I want us to understand is when

  191. we look at this and we think about some

  192. sometimes you know our focus can really

  193. get kind of uh zoomed in on the

  194. wickedness being destroyed and you know

  195. and and the and such destruction from

  196. that. But understand that the dual role

  197. here of water is quite critical

  198. because the water itself is not

  199. selective. Right?

  200. It's God's plan that determines its

  201. effect.

  202. To those outside the ark, the water

  203. meant destruction.

  204. But to those inside the ark, it meant

  205. salvation.

  206. Now, when the flood subsides, Noah

  207. emerges into a world that has been

  208. cleansed,

  209. a world that had been renewed,

  210. and a fresh beginning.

  211. That's the kind of imagery you get when

  212. you read all of Genesis 6-9.

  213. You know, the Apostle Peter explained

  214. later this event. This is not, you know,

  215. as again, it's not just mere historical

  216. information.

  217. It was instructional.

  218. And Peter explains really there's a

  219. deeper meaning of of this event. Go to 1

    1 Peter 3 chapter mention

  220. Peter chapter 3. In 1 Peter chapter 3

    1 Peter 3 chapter mention

  221. and look at verses 20 and 21. These

  222. might be familiar verses uh to most if

  223. not all of us. It says, "Who formerly

  224. were disobedient when once the divine

  225. longsuffering waited in the days of Noah

  226. while the ark was being prepared in

  227. which a few that is eight souls were

  228. saved through water. There is also an

  229. anti-ype which now saves us. baptism,

  230. not through removal of the filth of the

  231. flesh, but the answer of a good

  232. conscience toward God through the

  233. resurrection of Jesus Christ. See, he

  234. tells us that eight souls were saved

  235. through water.

  236. And then he says that baptism that

  237. baptism corresponds to this. Now saving

  238. us again, not the removal of the filth

  239. of the flesh, not not the dirt from the

  240. body, but he's saying it's an appeal to

  241. God for a good conscience.

  242. You got to see what's being emphasized,

  243. right? The same water that judged the

  244. world saved the faithful.

  245. Water marked the separation between the

  246. old world and the new.

  247. Salvation came through water, not around

  248. it.

  249. So the flood, that's not random

  250. destruction.

  251. It's a shadow of God's redemptive work.

  252. Death to the old and life in the new. So

  253. here's the lesson even in this. God uses

  254. water to mark the end of an old life and

  255. the beginning of a new one.

  256. And salvation has always involved

  257. leaving something behind.

  258. The flood shows us that God's

  259. deliverance is not accidental.

  260. It is entered by faith and obedience.

  261. Now, this same truth that we're talking

  262. about in this point, actually, we see

  263. this again

  264. when God redeems his people from Egypt.

  265. Let's fast forward to that of the Red

  266. Sea because what we find with the Red

  267. Sea in Exodus has to do with water being

  268. as deliverance and separation. Okay? So,

  269. go to Exodus chapter 14. I want us to

    Exodus 14 chapter mention

  270. read verses 13- 16 again for for time

  271. sake I'm I'm kind of giving you just

  272. again a portion here of uh to make the

  273. points but again make sure to read all

  274. of that uh regarding uh their very

  275. deliverance and and all it's it's it's

  276. very powerful again but Exodus 14 13- 16

  277. notice what's stated

  278. and Moses said to the people do not be

  279. afraid stand still and see the salvation

  280. of the Lord

  281. which he will accomplish for you today.

  282. For the Egyptians whom you see today,

  283. you shall see again no more forever. The

  284. Lord will fight for you and you shall

  285. hold your peace. And the Lord said to

  286. Moses, "Why do you cry to me? Tell the

  287. children of Israel to go forward, but

  288. lift up your rod and stretch out your

  289. hand over the sea and divide it, and the

  290. children of Israel shall go on dry

  291. ground through the midst of the sea."

  292. Now remember that in Exodus chapter 14,

    Exodus 14 chapter mention

  293. Israel stands trapped between Pharaoh's

  294. army and the Red Sea. Now there's no

  295. escape by human strength. So God

  296. intervenes and parting the waters so

  297. that Israel may pass through on dry

  298. ground. Now again, there's some

  299. instructions that are given to to Moses

  300. to lift up his rod, stretch out his hand

  301. over the sea, and divide it. and and

  302. there of course the children of Israel

  303. will be able to go on dry ground through

  304. the midst of the sea.

  305. Now the part is that when Egypt follows

  306. and in fresh pursuit if you will the

  307. waters return and the oppressors the

  308. Egyptians are destroyed.

  309. How does Paul connect this? Well, in our

  310. scripture reading this morning, brother

  311. Daniel read for us there in 1

    1 Corinthians 10 chapter mention

  312. Corinthians chapter 10. You see that in

  313. verses 1 and two. Moreover, brethren, I

  314. do not want you to be unaware that all

  315. our fathers were under the cloud. All

  316. passed through the sea. All were

  317. baptized into Moses in the cloud and in

  318. the sea.

  319. Tell me that's not interesting. Right?

  320. Because that language is intentional.

  321. Again, water marked Israel's transition

  322. from slavery to freedom, from bondage to

  323. covenant relationship. Egypt did not

  324. survive the crossing. What's that tell

  325. us? The old life could not pass through

  326. the water and remain.

  327. I think that's a powerful spiritual

  328. lesson.

  329. You cannot leave Egypt while still

  330. clinging to Egypt.

  331. And God uses water to draw a decisive

  332. line between who his people were and who

  333. they are now.

  334. The Red Sea, that was not just a

  335. miracle. It was a boundary.

  336. Egypt did not survive the water.

  337. Israel did.

  338. And God's water separates the saved from

  339. the enslaved, the old life from the new.

  340. Yet I will say this as well.

  341. Freedom

  342. alone does not sustain life.

  343. After deliverance comes, they escape

  344. Egyptian captivity bondage. Again, they

  345. have went from slavery to being free.

  346. But again, freedom alone was not going

  347. to sustain their life.

  348. After deliverance comes dependence.

  349. And that leads us to chapter 17 of

  350. Exodus where we find water from the rock

  351. sustaining life in the wilderness.

  352. Again, they have been delivered. But

  353. with that deliverance comes dependence.

  354. Now, Exodus chapter 17, I want us to

    Exodus 17 chapter mention

  355. read verses 3-6.

  356. 3-6.

  357. And the people thirsted there for water.

  358. And the people complained against Moses

  359. and said, "Why is it you

  360. have brought us up out of Egypt to kill

  361. us and our children and our livestock

  362. with thirst?" So Moses cried out to the

  363. Lord, saying, "What shall I do with this

  364. people? They are almost ready to stone

  365. me. And the Lord said to Moses, "Go on

  366. before the people and take with you some

  367. of the elders of Israel. Also take in

  368. your hand your rod with which you struck

  369. the river and go. Behold, I will stand

  370. before you there on the rock of Orb, and

  371. you shall strike the rock, and water

  372. will come out of it that the people may

  373. drink." And Moses did so in the sight of

  374. the elders of Israel.

  375. Now once Israel enters the wilderness,

  376. thirst quickly becomes a serious threat.

  377. The land is dry. The people complain.

  378. God commands Moses to strike the rock

  379. and water flows out in abundance.

  380. Where does this fit in?

  381. Well, back to our scripture reading this

  382. morning. 1 Corinthians chapter 10. What

    1 Corinthians 10 chapter mention

  383. do you find in verse four

  384. referencing back to what we're talking

  385. about from Exodus? And all drank the

  386. same spiritual drink for they drank of

  387. that spiritual rock that followed them.

  388. And that rock was Christ. Now

  389. the water was more than physical

  390. hydration.

  391. It was a shadow of the spiritual life

  392. Christ would provide. Friends, Israel

  393. did not survive because they were

  394. resourceful.

  395. I think we know that, don't we? They

  396. survived because God supplied what they

  397. could not produce themselves.

  398. So, this teaches us that salvation is

  399. not merely about being freed from sin.

  400. It's about being sustained by God

  401. afterward.

  402. Make that application. I've said that

  403. many of times. We'll talk more about

  404. baptism here in a moment. But this right

  405. here is not the end all. This is the

  406. separation of my old life,

  407. becoming a new creation in Christ,

  408. right?

  409. And afterwards being raised in newness

  410. in of life as Romans 6 3 and 4 says that

  411. means that what happens after that

  412. dependence upon God,

  413. right? We have given our lives to him.

  414. Without Christ, the wilderness defeats

  415. us. Without his provision, the journey

  416. cannot continue.

  417. And as scripture continues, God begins

  418. to speak even more clearly

  419. about what this water has always

  420. symbolized.

  421. I want you to think for a for a moment

  422. as well about the prophetic promises.

  423. how water was used as cleansing and and

  424. renewal. That's another picture that we

  425. get from from the Old Testament that you

  426. go through the prophets. Uh God uses uh

  427. water uh imagery to promise spiritual

  428. renewal. Now, one of those passages we

  429. see in Isaiah 55 and verse one, I even

  430. highlighted it says, "Oh, everyone who

  431. thirsts, come to the waters." Right.

  432. Right. Right. R right off there. The

  433. prophet Isaiah is inviting the thirsty

  434. to come to the waters.

  435. The prophet Ezekiel in Ezekiel 36:2, he

    Ezekiel 36:2

  436. says, "I will sprinkle clean water on

  437. you and you shall be clean. I will

  438. cleanse you from all your filthiness and

  439. from all your idols."

  440. God's promise. Talk, look at the look at

  441. the words connected. Clean, cleanse

  442. from all their impurities.

  443. Now, understanding that these promises

  444. are are not about ceremonial washing

  445. alone. Uh they point to a time when God

  446. would forgive sin fully, when he would

  447. cleanse hearts completely and restore

  448. broken relationships.

  449. Again, the water is the picture.

  450. God's grace is the reality that's being

  451. promised.

  452. Y'all notice how the shadows,

  453. we have walked through just a few of

  454. these this morning already. And you see

  455. the shadows are growing sharper. It, you

  456. know, it's kind of a it's kind of like

  457. you, you know, you see something as in

  458. the distance. It's kind of blurry, but

  459. then it starts getting more and more

  460. into focus. That's what we're seeing in

  461. the shadows of substance here again

  462. because the fulfillment is drawing near.

  463. And here we are about Jesus and the

  464. living water. This is when the substance

  465. is revealed. When you flip over at the

  466. New Testament, Jesus arrives.

  467. And what's interesting is Jesus does not

  468. discard the water imagery.

  469. He doesn't discard it. He claims it.

  470. Look at John chapter 4 and verses 13 and

    John 4 chapter mention

  471. 14. Look at it. I love it. He said Jesus

  472. answered and said to her, remember this

  473. is the woman at the well. He answered

  474. and said to her, "Whoever drinks of this

  475. water will thirst again." He's talking

  476. about the well water there, physical

  477. water where they're at. Verse 14 says,

  478. "But whoever drinks of the water that I

  479. shall give him will never thirst, but

  480. the water that I shall that I shall give

  481. him will become in him a fountain of

  482. water springing up into everlasting

  483. life."

  484. See, he tells a Samaritan woman at the

  485. well that he offers living water that

  486. permanently satisfies.

  487. Go to John chapter 7. John chapter 7.

John 7 chapter mention John 7 chapter mention

  488. Look at verses 37-39. It's all through

  489. here. John 7:37-39.

    John 7:37–39

  490. Read with me. On the last day, that

  491. great day of the feast, Jesus stood and

  492. cried out, saying, "If anyone thirst,

  493. let him come to me and drink. He who

  494. believes in me, as the scripture has

  495. said, out of his heart will flow rivers

  496. of living water.

  497. But this he spoke concerning the Spirit

  498. whom those believing in him would

  499. receive. For the Holy Spirit was not yet

  500. given because Jesus was not yet

  501. glorified. Jesus is crying out publicly

  502. that anyone who thirsts may come to him

  503. and drink. Kind of reminds me of what

  504. the prophets were prophesying of.

  505. You see, John explains that Jesus was

  506. speaking about the spirit and what Jesus

  507. does. And I I want us to just take a

  508. moment and appreciate this

  509. because I certainly did.

  510. Jesus gathers every Old Testament water

  511. image into himself.

  512. Did y'all ever notice that

  513. Jesus is revealing that everything water

  514. represented

  515. life, cleansing, renewal, salvation

  516. finds its fulfillment in him.

  517. I got a chill thinking about that.

  518. all the way from the Old Testament

  519. pointing all the way to today.

  520. Christ shows us this

  521. that water was never the end goal. Okay?

  522. Christ was always the destination here.

  523. But God does more than explain this

  524. truth.

  525. He actually appoints a moment when

  526. individuals personally enter into it.

  527. And that leads us to baptism, water as

  528. obedient response.

  529. Now, I mentioned Romans 6 3 and 4. Now,

  530. y'all know that I I use this one at the

  531. end of every lesson, Don. Romans 6 3 and

  532. 4. Y'all probably can quote this one.

  533. Or do you not know that as many of us

  534. were baptized into Christ were baptized

  535. into his death? Therefore, we are buried

  536. with him through baptism and death that

  537. just as Christ was raised from the dead

  538. by the glory of the father, even so we

  539. also should walk in newness of life.

  540. Paul is explaining that in baptism we

  541. are united with Christ's death, his

  542. burial, and his resurrection.

  543. Peter says, "Baptism saves." Remember

  544. that? We saw that in 1 Peter chapter 3

    1 Peter 3 chapter mention

  545. 20-21. Not as again putting away the

  546. filth of flesh. That's not what it's

  547. for. It's as an appeal to God for a

  548. clean conscience. I use this chart every

  549. time when I'm talking about baptism in

  550. such a way from Romans 6 3 and 4. Or

  551. again, you can connect that to 1

  552. Corinthians 15:es 3 and 4. Even you'll

  553. see about how the gospel is enacted with

  554. the death of Jesus, his burial, his

  555. resurrection, and then the gospel

  556. reenacted that has to do with baptism,

  557. right? That we're talking about is one

  558. dies to sin, they're buried in water,

  559. and resurrected to a new life. Is that

  560. not what Romans 6:es 3 and 4 is talking

  561. about? That's as plain and simple. And I

  562. love the imagery that the chart gives

  563. us.

  564. Because just as water marked salvation

  565. in the flood, it marked deliverance in

  566. the Red Sea and sustained in the

  567. wilderness. We just talked about all

  568. three of those. It now marks salvation

  569. in Christ.

  570. Baptism is where faith responds,

  571. obedience is expressed, and God applies

  572. the saving work of Christ to the

  573. believer.

  574. Friends, it's quite clear from old to

  575. new testament, God has always chosen

  576. water. What I tell you to remember at

  577. the very beginning, the moment of

  578. transition

  579. from old to new,

  580. powerful lessons,

  581. very powerful lessons we find

  582. and that of water.

  583. But I want to share with you something

  584. else in the final fulfillment that has

  585. to do with water in eternity. Now, we

  586. had our Revelation class a while back uh

  587. in our adult Bible class and we we

  588. talked about this some and how the Bible

  589. ends where it began. Think about that.

  590. The Bible ends where it began with

  591. water.

  592. Revelations 22 and verse one says, "And

  593. he showed me a pure river of water of

  594. life, clear as crystal proceeding from

  595. the throne of God, another lamb."

  596. the descriptions that we find

  597. of this river of a water of life flowing

  598. from the throne of God and of the lamb.

  599. You know what that shows us in what we

  600. talked about sustaining

  601. life, salvation, deliverance, all of

  602. those things.

  603. Here you have this very picture,

  604. this very portrayal.

  605. No thirst,

  606. no death, no curse.

  607. That's what Revelation is teaching us

  608. here. What began as a shadow in Genesis

  609. Genesis is fully realized in eternity.

  610. God's people will be completely

  611. satisfied forever. Is that not what

  612. Jesus was talking about in John chapter

    John 4 chapter mention

  613. 4

  614. with the woman at the well?

  615. I'm pretty sure of it.

  616. Friends,

  617. water

  618. that we've talked about and again as I

  619. I've told you every lesson now I don't

  620. want y'all to get spoiled by this

  621. because

  622. you get another chart today.

  623. You're like, I want every sermon to have

  624. some kind of chart, right? Make one, DJ.

  625. Uh, if you want it, I'll make it. You

  626. know, I don't I don't say no. I'll make

  627. it. Uh, but everyone grab make sure to

  628. grab a chart if you want the PDF copy in

  629. your emails or what have you. I'll send

  630. that to you if you'd like to have it

  631. that way. But again, the chart that

  632. that's before you even I know you can't

  633. see it here. Um, but the one that's out

  634. there in the for you, grab a copy that

  635. what we've talked about has a lot of

  636. information still there. has scripture

  637. references of what we talked about. Go

  638. and read, go and look at it. Go and

  639. continue to dwell on this because

  640. friends, again, that's what we've been

  641. talking about, right? What we've been

  642. talking about is real quickly. I'll put

  643. these up here. Just

  644. the shadow of physical water and

  645. temporary cleansing and life sustained

  646. temporarily salvation. That's pictured.

  647. Well, that's the substance that's found

  648. in Christ. Spiritual reality,

  649. eternal cleansing, eternal life offered,

  650. and salvation filled. That's what we've

  651. seen throughout this lesson. I summarize

  652. it real quickly. But think about it.

  653. Water is essential to life on this

  654. earth. I've been talking so much about

  655. water. I bet y'all want some. Okay? I'm

  656. sure y'all do. Without it, humanity

  657. cannot survive. We know that, don't we?

  658. We are mostly made up of water. You

  659. know, think about it. We have a lot of

  660. water in us.

  661. In the same way, the living and eternal

  662. water offered by Christ is indispensable

  663. for eternal life beyond this world.

  664. From creation to the flood, from the Red

  665. Cross, from the Red Sea to the cross,

  666. from baptism to eternity, water tells

  667. one unified story.

  668. God brings life, God cleanses, God

  669. delivers, God sustains, and God saves.

  670. That's it.

  671. Water was the shadow and Christ is the

  672. substance.

  673. And you know what's interesting is Jesus

  674. still calls the thirsty to come

  675. still today.

  676. And I submit to you

  677. this shadows to substance lesson about

  678. water and all that we've talked about

  679. briefly in this lesson. If you're ready

  680. to leave the old life behind, that

  681. transition point that we talked about

  682. throughout the lesson and you want to be

  683. cleansed, you'll be renewed and

  684. sustained by God's grace, the gospel

  685. invites you to first, you got to believe

  686. that Jesus Christ is living God. Faith

  687. comes by hearing and hearing by the word

  688. of God. Romans 10:1 17. If you believe

    Romans 10:1

  689. that Jesus Christ is the son of living

  690. God, that he is the water, the spiritual

  691. water, right?

  692. you can respond.

  693. Confessing him, repenting of your sins,

  694. being baptized to rise and walk in

  695. newness of life. That's a transition

  696. point. Not the putting away of filth

  697. flesh, but the answer for good

  698. conscience toward God. 1 Peter 3 21.

  699. Friends, that's baptism that now saves

  700. us.

  701. You can be baptized for the remission of

  702. your sins. You can become from that old

  703. to a new creation in Christ.

  704. I appreciate so much

  705. how beautiful the Bible has portrayed

  706. and put this all together for us.

  707. And you have seen it for yourselves.

  708. You looked at the scriptures. I'm not

  709. making this up. It's all right here. And

  710. there's more from where that came from.

  711. It's the pieces of the puzzle that's all

  712. before us. We just have to put them

  713. together.

  714. And we have done that yet again this

  715. morning in this other shadows to

  716. substance lesson.

  717. So friends, I invite you to be baptized

  718. for the mission of your sins.

  719. If you'd like to study more about God's

  720. plan of salvation, I say this many

  721. times, don't leave here without saying,

  722. "I want to talk to you more about it."

  723. I would love to speak with you about it.

  724. It's the most important decision you'll

  725. make that carries on in daytoday life.

  726. And again, the water of life that

  727. sustains us, that Jesus is. Or as a

  728. disciple of Christ, it may be that

  729. you're weary.

  730. Think about the wilderness. Again, the

  731. water still flows from the throne of God

  732. and of the lamb still. And he still

  733. invites you to partake

  734. freely. As we sang before the lesson,

  735. there's a fountain free for you and me.

  736. And friends, that water

  737. that we are washed, it's in the blood

  738. and washed us from our sins in his

  739. blood. Friends, there's more lessons on

  740. the blood next Sunday morning, Lord's

  741. willing. So, look forward to that as

  742. well. But for this this lesson, the

  743. invitation is being given. And I

  744. appreciate your kind attention for you

  745. being here this morning, the

  746. encouragement that you all are to me and

  747. my family. This time that we know spend

  748. and worship to God and to be able to

  749. study his holy divine word as we have

  750. yet again today. look at your life,

  751. examine whether you in the faith prove

  752. your own selves, and if we can help you

  753. and assist you with any spiritual need

  754. that you may have, won't you come as we

  755. stand and sing the song that's been

  756. selected for us?
