  1. This morning

  2. is our final lesson of our series,

  3. Shadows to Substance. I was a little

  4. sad. I'm going to tell you as I was

  5. preparing this one, thinking this is the

  6. conclusion. And I kept thinking, I got

  7. one more. I just know it. We've been

  8. going on for a while. This is going to

  9. be part 18 of 18. So, this isn't the

  10. longest series I've ever done, but it is

  11. it was rather a lengthy one, but I have

  12. certainly enjoyed it. And I hope that

  13. the way that I'm bringing this lesson

  14. series to a close is going to be

  15. encouraging and edifying to each one as

  16. those sermons prior to has certainly

  17. been encouraging, edifying to me and

  18. preparing them in our study together. So

  19. the question that we're asking

  20. this morning of ourselves based on all

  21. that we have read and all that we have

  22. studied through this several part series

  23. of shadows to substance is the question

  24. what are we still seeking?

  25. I I really pondered on this as to how to

  26. end this one and I thought this question

  27. is the one. This is it.

  28. Because friends, throughout this series,

  29. we have walked carefully through the

  30. scriptures and we have traced God's

  31. unfolding plan

  32. from Genesis

  33. to Christ.

  34. And we have seen that God did not reveal

  35. everything at once. That's that I think

  36. that's the beauty of it. I really do.

  37. Rather, what he did is he taught us

  38. patiently.

  39. He taught us progressively. He taught us

  40. purposefully.

  41. I've mentioned already throughout this

  42. series that really you see that he's

  43. teaching layer by layer

  44. over and over. We have seen how God used

  45. real people, real events, real

  46. institutions as shadows, those types and

  47. and figures designed to prepare the

  48. human heart for something greater.

  49. reminded of the passage of Romans 15 and

  50. verse4

  51. where Paul said for whatever things were

  52. written before were written for our

  53. learning that we through the patience

  54. and comfort of the scriptures might have

  55. hope.

  56. What we have learned is God using

  57. history itself as his classroom.

  58. That every covenant, every sacrifice,

  59. every priesthood, every deliverance was

  60. preaching a powerful message that

  61. extends all the way here to us today.

  62. That all of it was pointing forward.

  63. And I want us to think about this. Now,

  64. I'm not going to repreach the whole

  65. series, so don't get worried. All right?

  66. I am going to give you a little you

  67. probably if you had the handouts you're

  68. thinking oh wow he's going to hit on a

  69. lot of stuff just a little bit because

  70. I'm making the point here as we as we're

  71. going to bring this lesson series to a

  72. close but again just reminding ourselves

  73. again that God was teaching through

  74. shadows spiritual truths through

  75. physical realities

  76. from the very beginning God chose to

  77. teach spiritual truths through spiritual

  78. through through those physical realities

  79. And and one of the things that you'll

  80. notice there is is creation, right?

  81. We've talked about creation itself.

  82. Psalm 19 and verse one, the psalmist

  83. said, "The heavens declare the glory of

  84. God and the firmament shows his

  85. handiwork."

  86. And even in Romans 1 and verse 20 speaks

  87. of this, for since the creation of the

  88. world, his invisible attributes are

  89. clearly seen being understood by the

  90. things that are made, even his eternal

  91. power and godhead. so that they are

  92. without excuse.

  93. God was showing humanity that life comes

  94. from him alone, the creator.

  95. And again, we saw it from the very

  96. beginning in Genesis, the creation.

  97. We've talked about water as another one

  98. of those. Noah passed through the water.

  99. That's what 1 Corinthians 10, we looked

  100. at that one just recently, two two

  101. sermons ago, where Noah is passed

  102. through water into a new world. Israel

  103. crossed the Red Sea in deliverance.

  104. Later, they crossed the Jordan of the

  105. promised land. That's what Paul was

  106. explaining in 1 Corinthians 10 1-4 that

  107. Israel was baptized into Moses in the

  108. cloud and in the sea. And Peter tells us

  109. regarding back to Noah that this

  110. foreshadowed baptism which now what?

  111. Saves us. 1 Peter chapter 3:es 20 and 21

  112. who formerly were disobedient when once

  113. the divine longsuffering waited in the

  114. days of Noah while the ark was being

  115. prepared in which a few that is eight

  116. souls were saved through water. There is

  117. also an anti-ype which now saves us.

  118. Baptism, not the removal of the filth of

  119. the flesh,

  120. but the answer of a good conscience

  121. toward God through the resurrection of

  122. Jesus Christ.

  123. See, what do we see in that one? Water

  124. was never merely water. It was always

  125. pointing forward to cleansing,

  126. deliverance, and new life.

  127. God taught through blood and sacrifice.

  128. We looked at that one last Sunday

  129. morning, didn't we? Leviticus 17:1, one

    Leviticus 17:1

  130. of the uh passages I shared with you

  131. then. For the life of the flesh is

  132. where? It's in the blood. And I have

  133. given it to you up on the altar to make

  134. atonement for your souls. For it is the

  135. blood that makes atonement for the soul.

  136. And what is that also mentioned there in

  137. Hebrews 9 and verse 22? Well, there it

  138. is again referencing back even to what

  139. you see in in Exodus and all and

  140. Leviticus. And according to the law,

  141. almost all things are purified with

  142. what? Blood.

  143. And without shedding of blood, there is

  144. no remission.

  145. We were reminded just in that one as

  146. well that every lamb placed on an altar

  147. preached the same sermon. You know what

  148. that was? Sin cost life. Yet Hebrews

  149. also tells us that those sacrifices

  150. could never truly remove sin. Talking

  151. about the bloods of bulls and goats. We

  152. read that last Sunday, didn't we? They

  153. were shadows. And what they were doing

  154. is they were waiting for fulfillment.

  155. God taught through priesthood.

  156. The priesthood of Hebrews 7:es 23- 26

  157. that's referencing there back to the

  158. priesthood of the Old Testament, the old

  159. law. It says also there were many

  160. priests because they were prevented by

  161. death from continuing.

  162. But he, who's that reference again?

  163. Jesus. The fulfillment, the substance

  164. that we've been talking about in this

  165. series. But he, because he continues

  166. forever, has an unchangeable priesthood.

  167. Therefore, he is also able to save to

  168. the uttermost those who come to God

  169. through him, since he always lives to

  170. make intercession for them. For such a

  171. high priest was fitting for us, who is

  172. holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from

  173. sinners, and has become higher than the

  174. heavens.

  175. See, the priests that stood between God

  176. and man, the old law, they offered

  177. sacrifices on behalf of the people that

  178. we mentioned, but those priests were

  179. temporary, weren't they? They died.

  180. Their ministry ended. They were pointing

  181. forward to someone greater. And who was

  182. that? Jesus Christ the righteous. Just

  183. as the Hebrew writer makes clear in

  184. Hebrews 7.

  185. Now, I bring all of this up because

  186. friends, you know, God taught through

  187. covenant. He taught through land. He

  188. taught through marriage. He taught

  189. through nationhood.

  190. We covered a lot of ground. A lot.

  191. And Hebrews tells us plainly, the law

  192. had only a shadow of good things to

  193. come. And one of the passages that we

  194. use numerous times throughout this

  195. series as well was Colossians 2 16 and

  196. 17 of what Paul was emphasizing about

  197. those things of the old. Let no one

  198. judge you in food or in drink or in

  199. regarding a festival or a new moon or

  200. Sabbath. Again referencing the old. He

  201. says those are a shadow which are shadow

  202. of things to come but the substance is

  203. of Christ.

  204. He says the substance belongs to Christ.

  205. All of this is teaching us.

  206. And what we have seen throughout the

  207. series of lessons is that God he was not

  208. experimenting. Okay? He was not

  209. experimenting friends. He was teaching.

  210. And can I tell you uh something plainly?

  211. I I I believe is that shadows

  212. only make sense

  213. when the substance arrives.

  214. All this other that we have noted

  215. when the substance arrive now it makes

  216. sense. We put all those things together.

  217. As I mentioned throughout this series,

  218. we have all these pieces of the puzzle

  219. and we've been putting them all together

  220. and they fit so perfectly.

  221. When Jesus arrived, every shadow found

  222. its meaning in him.

  223. And remember what John the Baptist when

  224. he said uh when when he looked at Jesus

  225. and said behold the lamb of God who

  226. takes away the sin of the world.

  227. Paul would tell us Christ is our

  228. Passover sacrifice for us. Hebrews

  229. declared Jesus appeared once for all to

  230. put away sin by the sacrifice of

  231. himself. Jesus is our high priest. And

  232. Hebrews tells us that we now have a

  233. great high priest who has passed through

  234. the heavens and because of him we can

  235. come boldly to the throne of grace

  236. unlike the priest of old. Again as we

  237. mentioned Jesus did not offer another

  238. sacrifice. He offered himself

  239. that he is our rest.

  240. That's why he could rightfully say in

  241. Matthew 11 28 through30 come unto me all

  242. ye that labor and are heavy laden and I

  243. will give you rest.

  244. He could say that

  245. because there remains a rest for the

  246. people of God and that rest is found in

  247. Christ.

  248. Marriage itself pointed forward to

  249. Christ and his church. Paul wrote that

  250. Christ loved the church and gave himself

  251. for her. My mind has just constantly

  252. just been spinning through all of this.

  253. in Hebrews 1:es 1-4.

  254. I want us to think about this.

  255. What what what's being told in Hebrews

  256. 1. And Hebrews covers a lot of ground as

  257. well. I know we we hit on a lot of

  258. passages in Hebrews, but look at how

  259. Hebrews chapter 1 starts out verse 1-4.

    Hebrews 1 chapter mention

  260. God, who at various times and in various

  261. ways spoke in time past to the fathers

  262. by the prophets, has in these last days

  263. spoken to us by his son, whom he has

  264. appointed heir of all things, through

  265. whom also he made the worlds, who being

  266. the brightness of his glory and the

  267. express image of his person, upholding

  268. all things by the word of his power,

  269. when he had by himself purged our sins,

  270. sat down at the right hand of the

  271. majesty on high, having become so much

  272. better than the angels as he has by

  273. inheritance obtained a more excellent

  274. name than they. What that basically is

  275. telling us is very simple. While God

  276. once spoke through prophets, he has now

  277. spoken through his son. All of what we

  278. have seen in this series is that Christ

  279. is God's final word.

  280. Nothing more is coming. Okay?

  281. The shadows have done their work. that

  282. fulfillment, that substance has arrived.

  283. Yet, here is where the tragedy begins.

  284. Okay, here's where it kind of turns a

  285. little bit on us.

  286. Even when Christ came, many still wanted

  287. something else. Y'all know that?

  288. I want you to look 1 Corinthians 1 and

  289. verse 22. Brother Daniel, let us in our

  290. scripture reading this morning. And as

  291. you get your minds as to what was stated

  292. there, what Paul was making mention, I'm

  293. going to use verse 22 to start us off

  294. here. For Jews request a sign, and

  295. Greeks seek after wisdom.

  296. Now,

  297. here's something that you'll find as you

  298. go and you study more into about the the

  299. Jews and as well as the Greeks here. And

  300. I I'm going to mention a few passages uh

  301. again with this. But here what he's

  302. saying is the Jews, they wanted

  303. continual proof,

  304. did they not? They did. They asked Jesus

  305. himself who was a substance right in

  306. front of them

  307. for signs even after witnessing miracles

  308. that he did.

  309. That sounds crazy, doesn't it?

  310. They ignored resurrection level evidence

  311. because it didn't fit their

  312. expectations.

  313. The Greeks, they sought after wisdom. I

  314. I'll just take you back to Acts chapter

    Acts 17 chapter mention

  315. 17 and verse 21. This is a prime area

  316. that you find Paul. You think about the

  317. Athenians, this passage where he he

  318. proclaims there on Mars Hill, right?

  319. That's a powerful powerful lesson about

  320. him teaching them about that unknown god

  321. to them which was God right the creator

  322. of all the one true God

  323. what's he say in verse 21 of Acts 17 for

  324. all the Athenians and the foreigners who

  325. were there spent their time in nothing

  326. else but either to tell or to hear some

  327. new thing it's exactly what Paul's

  328. saying in 1 Corinthians 1 verse 22 is

    1 Corinthians 1:22

  329. they wanted philosophy ophy.

  330. They spent their time hearing something

  331. new. They loved ideas but not

  332. submission.

  333. I told y'all this is where the tragedy

  334. begins.

  335. This is where the problem happens.

  336. Paul answers both groups with one

  337. statement. I'm use the first part of 1

  338. Corinthians 1 and verse 23. Here's the

  339. statement. But we preach Christ

  340. crucified.

  341. Yeah, you seek after this and you want

  342. this,

  343. but we preach Christ crucified. That's

  344. what we do,

  345. friends. That statement still confronts

  346. us.

  347. We can be no different than the Jews who

  348. seek after a sign and the Greeks who are

  349. still seeking wisdom. We can be no

  350. different than them. that are referenced

  351. in 1 Corinthians 1 verse 22.

    1 Corinthians 1:22

  352. And we we may not ask for miracles. We

  353. may not do that. But we sometimes ask

  354. for certainty that's beyond scripture.

  355. We may not chase Greek philosophy. We

  356. may not do that.

  357. But you know what we still want? We want

  358. explanations that fit our preferences.

  359. And then we say the Bible is sufficient.

  360. Yet we often live as though it's not.

  361. enough.

  362. It's just not enough.

  363. We have the problem that exists of of

  364. looking for emotional

  365. confirmation.

  366. We have to be careful about that, right?

  367. That emotional stuff. The heart is

  368. deceitful, right? Scriptures talk about

  369. that. We look for deeper insight. We

  370. look for something more.

  371. But before we go searching elsewhere,

  372. what we need to first remember is what

  373. God has already given us.

  374. Look how much time we spent in this

  375. series of all the different levels and

  376. layers of those shadows that led

  377. straight to the substance every single

  378. time. And we want more.

  379. We want more. Is there a miracle

  380. somewhere? Is there a sign? Is there

  381. what are we doing?

  382. Look at 2 Timothy 3 16-1 17.

  383. This happens in our society, friends.

  384. This is what I'm talking about. 2

  385. Timothy 3:16-1 17 says, "All scripture,"

  386. and say, "Some,

  387. all scripture is given by inspiration of

  388. God." And look at this. Read on. and is

  389. profitable for doctrine, for approve,

  390. for correction, for instruction in

  391. righteousness, that the man of God may

  392. be, look at this word, complete,

  393. thoroughly equipped for every good work.

  394. There is no exception at the end of the

  395. sentence.

  396. There's no but

  397. no it says scripture all scripture is

  398. inspired by God and able to make the man

  399. of God complete

  400. Peter second Peter chapter 1 go over to

    2 Peter 1 chapter mention

  401. second Peter chapter 1 again prove all

    2 Peter 1 chapter mention

  402. things according to God's word not DJs

  403. God's divine power Peter talks about in

  404. second Peter 1:es 2-4 look at this

  405. what has God given us.

  406. Look at this. grace and peace be

  407. multiplied to you in the knowledge of

  408. God and of Jesus our Lord

  409. as his divine power has given to us all

  410. things that pertain to life and

  411. godliness

  412. through the knowledge here's here it is

  413. through the knowledge of him

  414. the substance right what we've been

  415. talking about him who called us by glory

  416. and virtue by which have been given to

  417. us exceedingly great and precious

  418. promises that through these you may be

  419. partakers of the divine nature, having

  420. escaped the corruption that is in the

  421. world through lust. Wow.

  422. Speaks volumes, doesn't it? God's divine

  423. power has given us all things that

  424. pertain to life and godliness. You see,

  425. God God did not leave salvation vague.

  426. He didn't he didn't do that. The gospel

  427. is so plain. It's so clear. We were

  428. talking about this morning in our Bible

  429. class in Acts chapter eight. that

  430. section of scripture that speaks of the

  431. Ethiopian unic. Philip went up and he

  432. preached Christ to him from where the

  433. shadow of the Old Testament

  434. that talked about the suffering savior

  435. in Isaiah chapter 53. He preached

    Isaiah 53 chapter mention

  436. Christ. What did Paul said in 1

    1 Corinthians 1:23

  437. Corinthians 1 verse 23? But we preach

  438. Christ crucified. That's it.

  439. And that's exactly what the Ethiopian

  440. unic heard in Acts chapter 8. Again, we

    Acts 8 chapter mention

  441. don't have the whole outline of what

  442. Philip was preaching there or teaching.

  443. But you know what? He came to the

  444. conclusion of that Jesus Christ that's

  445. being spoken of in Isaiah 53 is a

  446. suffering savior that died on the cross

  447. for his sins and all of ours. And what

  448. did he say? Here is water. What hinders

  449. me from being baptized.

  450. The Ethiopian unic wasn't going well.

  451. What else do you got?

  452. You got anything else? Is there a sign?

  453. Is there some wisdom? there. What? What?

  454. What is there?

  455. No, that Ethiopian unic, he heard the

  456. gospel message right there and he said,

  457. "Here's water. What would hinders me

  458. from being baptized?"

  459. That's powerful. That Ethiopian unic

  460. recognized something, didn't

  461. that shadow right to the substance that

  462. Jesus Christ himself being preached to

  463. him.

  464. belief, repentance, confession, baptism,

  465. remission of sins,

  466. no mystery, there's no hidden knowledge,

  467. there's no elite access code that we

  468. need.

  469. And yet, here's the thing. The

  470. simplicity of the cross offends human

  471. pride.

  472. It offends it.

  473. I believe you would agree with me. Okay?

  474. And I've had conversation with a lot

  475. over this series of lessons. I believe

  476. you would agree with me that these this

  477. series of lessons was so simple.

  478. Okay. So simple. Taking things from the

  479. Old Testament,

  480. blood, water again, marriage, creation,

  481. all all of those things, the priesthood,

  482. all those shadows. And and all we did

  483. was go to the New Testament and we

  484. connect them to Jesus. That's all we

  485. did.

  486. This was NOT COMPLEX AT ALL, was it?

  487. Because if it was complex, DJ's not

  488. teaching or preaching it. Okay, go ahead

  489. and get that one down.

  490. Paul said in 1 Corinthians 1 and verse

  491. 18, for the message of the cross is

  492. foolishness to those who are perishing.

  493. That one hurts. All right. That hurts

  494. for someone to consider that this

  495. message is so simple.

  496. They consider it foolish. It's

  497. foolishness to those who are perishing.

  498. But to us who are being saved, it is the

  499. power of God because we connect all of

  500. it.

  501. You see, when when he uses that

  502. statement, the message of the cross is

  503. foolishness those who are perishing. You

  504. know, you ask the question, well, why?

  505. Because it removes boasting.

  506. We got to remember we are the creation

  507. not the creator.

  508. Salvation is by grace through faith and

  509. God saves through humble obedience not

  510. human brilliance.

  511. And that brings us to I I think one of

  512. the most personal questions we're going

  513. to ask this morning in in this series of

  514. lessons.

  515. We must ask ourselves honestly if God

  516. has shown us everything that we need,

  517. friends, what are we still seeking?

  518. What are we still looking for?

  519. I mean, we could ask questions. Are are

  520. we seeking assurance beyond faith? Are

  521. we seeking comfort beyond obedience? Are

  522. we seeking acceptance beyond Christ?

  523. What are we still seeking?

  524. I I want you to notice Hebrews 2 1-3.

  525. Look at that.

  526. Hebrews 2 1-3. Therefore, we must give

  527. the more earnest heed to the things we

  528. have heard.

  529. Heard. Where's faith come from?

  530. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by

  531. the word of God. That's Romans 10:17.

    Romans 10:17

  532. That's it. We have heard. If we don't do

  533. that, what's he give a warning? He gives

  534. a warning. Lest we drift away. For if

  535. the word spoken through angels prove

  536. steadfast in every transgression and

  537. disobedience received a just reward, how

  538. shall we escape if we neglect so great a

  539. salvation which at the first began to be

  540. spoken by the Lord and was confirmed to

  541. us by those who heard him? Friends, we

  542. have been confirming all series long.

  543. We have confirmed all of these shadows

  544. to the substance.

  545. He says we got to give them more earnest

  546. heed less we drift away because that's

  547. what happens. And then we stand up. We

  548. want to see a sign and we're looking for

  549. wisdom. We're looking for all the

  550. What did Jesus disciples? They once

  551. asked this now with the Kyle Copelan

  552. songs that that he selected this

  553. morning. One of them was Lord to whom

  554. shall we go? Did y'all see that

  555. scripture? To whom shall we go? Where

  556. could I go but to the Lord? That was a

  557. scripture John 6 and verse 68 that's

  558. referenced there in that song. But Simon

  559. Peter answered him Lord to whom shall we

  560. go? You have the words of eternal life.

  561. what he's saying is there's nowhere

  562. else.

  563. And I I love what Paul said. I just love

  564. it. You know, when Paul in 1 Corinthians

    1 Corinthians 2 chapter mention

  565. chapter 2, if you go on down to 1 Pet, I

  566. said I could just preach on chapter I

  567. could just go throughout Corinthians,

  568. tell you the truth. I'm not that not

  569. going to do that today. But chapter 2

  570. and verse two, he said,"I determine not

  571. to know anything among you except Jesus

  572. Christ and him crucified."

  573. Friends, that was his message.

  574. And do you know what? That's still our

  575. message.

  576. That's still the same message.

  577. Now,

  578. let me bring the series to its close.

  579. Now, just because I close a series

  580. doesn't mean that we stop thinking about

  581. it. All right. All those charts and I

  582. didn't have a I didn't have a chart this

  583. morning uh that I have extra handouts

  584. this morning. So, I I know you might

  585. walked in disappointed this morning want

  586. that on that chart.

  587. U it probably would have been like 20

  588. pages front and back with all the things

  589. that I wanted to put in there from the

  590. whole series. But if you got the ones

  591. from before, you you you you got what

  592. you need there for all the all the

  593. lessons.

  594. But I want our minds to continue to

  595. think on what we have studied in this in

  596. this series

  597. that God has patiently walked humanity

  598. from promise to fulfillment, from shadow

  599. to substance, from picture to reality.

  600. Because friends, the question is not

  601. it's not whether God has spoken clearly.

  602. Because again, I go back to what I

  603. mentioned earlier. Not a single one has

  604. come up to me and said, "I'm confused

  605. about what was being taught from the Old

  606. Testament connecting it." My friends, my

  607. kids,

  608. my children

  609. understood those lessons.

  610. basic simple gospel truth message they

  611. understood those connections of the

  612. shadows to substance

  613. so God he he's spoken clearly

  614. so it's not this that's not the question

  615. the question is whether will we trust

  616. him in what he has said

  617. because that's what Paul is telling the

  618. say brother Colossians chapter 2:es 9

  619. and 10 for in him dwells all the

  620. fullness of the godhead bodily and you

  621. are complete in him who is the head of

  622. all principality and power.

  623. You know what he's saying? Nothing is

  624. missing and nothing's lacking. He said,

  625. "This is what I need to know and this is

  626. what you need to know."

  627. We don't want to be like the Jews that

  628. Paul is referencing in 1 Corinthians

    1 Corinthians 1 chapter mention

  629. chapter 1. We don't want to be like the

  630. Greeks, right? That's they're doing the

  631. same. You know what? What are they

  632. looking for?

  633. Verse 21 or verse 20.

  634. Where is the wise? Where's the scribe?

  635. Where's the disputer of this age?

  636. Has not God made the foolish the wisdom

  637. made foolish the wisdom of this world?

  638. For since verse 21, in the wisdom of

  639. God, the world through wisdom did not

  640. know God. It pleased God through the

  641. foolishness of the message preached to

  642. save those who believe. For Jews request

  643. a sign and Greeks seek after wisdom, but

  644. we preach Christ crucified.

  645. To the Jews a stumbling block, and to

  646. the Greeks foolishness. But to those who

  647. are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ

  648. the power of God and the wisdom of God.

  649. Because the foolishness of God is wiser

  650. than men and the weakness of God is

  651. stronger than men. There's another

  652. lesson right in there, friends. I could

  653. preach a whole another sermon just on

  654. those few verses. And I may,

  655. but not this morning.

  656. He's saying nothing's missing, nothing's

  657. lacking.

  658. So the question again is what are we

  659. still seeking?

  660. What is holding us back?

  661. from submitting to his word, his will.

  662. Friends, if you're still searching for

  663. meaning, forgiveness or assurance

  664. through shadows and his salvation

  665. through his son, think about all those

  666. things. If you're still seeking, God has

  667. already pointed you to the answer.

  668. What's the answer? It's

  669. exactly as we have noted

  670. the substance

  671. that is Christ.

  672. I'm very thankful that God has not left

  673. us guessing as to what our purpose here

  674. on this earth is.

  675. He didn't.

  676. He has shown us his will and purpose

  677. through shadows and his salvation

  678. through his son. And as we close this

  679. series, I'm just I'm I'm I want to

  680. submit to you,

  681. we have to stop chasing what feels

  682. impressive to us

  683. and start walking faithfully with

  684. Christ.

  685. Because when you have Jesus, that

  686. passage we just saw says you have

  687. everything.

  688. You have everything.

  689. And it is so sad many times when I think

  690. about those Jews who again asking Jesus

  691. for more, for more, for more.

  692. We know what they were up to.

  693. Their pride got in the way that they

  694. would not submit.

  695. And that same heart still exists today.

  696. There's those who have not put on the

  697. body of Christ in baptism even though it

  698. clearly points from the old shadows that

  699. to the substance that is Christ and all

  700. of the scriptures won't do it.

  701. Pride gets in the way. It's dangerous.

  702. It's not because we don't have

  703. everything. It's because we don't really

  704. want to submit to everything that the

  705. Lord has said.

  706. But friends, the shadows have faded and

  707. the substance stands revealed. And you

  708. know what? The cross still calls. Still

  709. does. So we have to stop seeking signs.

  710. We got to stop chasing the wisdom of

  711. this. We got to stay start living fully

  712. in Christ and see where true wisdoms.

  713. It's in

  714. the word of God.

  715. It's in Christ. So friends, I tell you

  716. again as we have again throughout this

  717. whole series, the gospel has called in

  718. every one of those shadows to the

  719. substance that is Christ has called us

  720. to the same plan of salvation.

  721. Same one. It didn't lead us off veering

  722. off into another direction or something

  723. else that's here to come. No, it led us

  724. straight back to hearing the word,

  725. believing, repenting of our sins,

  726. confessing Jesus to be the son of man

  727. God, and being baptized, buried with

  728. Christ in baptism to rise and walk in

  729. newness of life as Romans 6 and4 says,

  730. forgiveness of our sins to be added to

  731. the Lord's church.

  732. It led us all right back to that

  733. every single time. You need to submit to

  734. that this morning. All things stand

  735. ready. And if you're already in Christ,

  736. but find yourself you're still seeking

  737. something more,

  738. remember this. In Christ, everything has

  739. already been given.

  740. It's all been given. And it came through

  741. Jesus the loving shepherd. Our song of

  742. encouragement is being given. Number

  743. 272.

  744. Friends, I I I ask again that very

  745. personal question. We need to we need to

  746. consider

  747. what are we still seeking? What are we

  748. doing with Jesus? What are we doing with

  749. his word? What are we doing with what he

  750. has already revealed?

  751. I'm asking and pleading with you, stop

  752. seeking after those things.

  753. only seek Christ him crucified

  754. his life given for us and to follow the

  755. path that the loving shepherd gives. He

  756. said, "I am the good shepherd and I know

  757. my sheep and they shall hear my voice."

  758. Do you hear his voice this morning? Do

  759. you hear it calling from the shadows?

  760. The very substance that he is. You do

  761. answer that call. Won't you come as we

  762. stand and sing the song that has been

  763. selected for
