  1. This evening

  2. we are visiting our series of lessons

  3. again that I bring out from time to time

  4. which is our Q&A series asking for a

  5. friend. As I mentioned in times past

  6. this one comes around about once uh

  7. every month on a on a Sunday evening.

  8. And so questions that that uh might come

  9. up and and whether they put them in the

  10. box or hand to me or wherever they come

  11. from. Um but uh I always enjoy doing

  12. these and and I'm thankful for the

  13. participation in in submitting your

  14. questions uh for this evening's lesson

  15. and the Q&A uh derives from a question

  16. actually that's our yearly Bible

  17. reading. Uh if you have been endeavoring

  18. uh in the yearly schedule of reading

  19. your Bible throughout the year, uh then

  20. you uh probably do what most when you

  21. have read the verses or heard the verses

  22. from the book of Exodus of Pharaoh's

  23. heart being hardened. Now, as I was

  24. reading uh those passages from the book

  25. of Exodus uh in our our reading uh

  26. schedule,

  27. you know, it it is one of those

  28. questions no matter how many times that

  29. you have studied and have read those

  30. verses, uh it it always brings up a

  31. question mark a lot of times. And and

  32. I'll submit to you that uh

  33. there's a lot of times people ask this

  34. very question. uh may maybe have uh some

  35. thoughts on. And so I I want to share

  36. with you and uh the question that big

  37. question mark that comes to mind and and

  38. not only as we dwell on that but also if

  39. you might have been asked about this is

  40. how do I answer this question tonight?

  41. If someone was to come to you and ask

  42. this very question uh that has troubled

  43. honest Bible readers for generations

  44. actually uh it usually sounds something

  45. like this. Did God harden Pharaoh's

  46. heart?

  47. So then you're face to face with a Bible

  48. question from someone who wants to truly

  49. know the answer to what they've been

  50. reading uh from the book of Exodus. And

  51. if so, if God hardened Pharaoh's heart,

  52. was Pharaoh ever really given a choice?

  53. Now again, you may have had

  54. conversations with folks when you read

  55. in the book of Exodus and they come

  56. across these verses like you have in

  57. your reading and you might say, "Let me

  58. think about this." Because this is not a

  59. small question. All right? Uh it's it's

  60. uh because behind it are, I would say,

  61. even bigger concerns. All right? Uh like

  62. questions such as does God override

  63. human free will? Uh, is God responsible

  64. for evil decisions? Uh, can someone be

  65. judged for something God caused? So, you

  66. can see how uh really from that one

  67. question we're asking right there, did

  68. God harden Pharaoh's heart? Now, you

  69. have all these sub questions. You see,

  70. so in the spirit of asking for a friend

  71. series, let's slow down. Let's open our

  72. Bibles. Uh let's let's let scripture

  73. answer scripture. All right? Because we

  74. are stepping into one of the most

  75. dramatic moments in redemptive history.

  76. Uh again, kind of the backdrop, if you

  77. will, for a moment. Think about how

  78. Israel uh they're in bondage. Pharaoh's

  79. on the throne and and God's uh preparing

  80. to show his power, right?

  81. And before the plagues, before the Red

  82. Sea, before deliverance, uh God tells

  83. Moses something

  84. and simply says, "I will harden

  85. Pharaoh's heart." Now, that's where the

  86. struggle begins, right? Uh so again,

  87. we're going to walk through this

  88. carefully. We're going to walk through

  89. it carefully, and let's ask the next

  90. question. What does the text actually

  91. say? All right. So, when you read the

  92. Exodus account closely, you're you're

  93. going to discover something important.

  94. Now, a lot of what I'm focusing on,

  95. there are several chapters that

  96. basically span from Exodus chapter 7,

    Exodus 7 chapter mention

  97. uh, chapter 8, chapter 9, all the way to

  98. chapter 10. I'm going to give you some

  99. of these examples here in just a moment,

  100. uh, of how the Bible describes Pharaoh's

  101. heart really in three different ways.

  102. Okay. So the first one that I want to

  103. show you uh in in what the text actually

  104. says starting off with uh the first one

  105. being

  106. Pharaoh hardened his own heart. You're

  107. going to see that in three separate

  108. passages in Exodus chapter 8. First of

    Exodus 8 chapter mention

  109. all, verse 15. Read it with me. But when

  110. Pharaoh saw that there was relief, he

  111. hardened his heart and did not heed them

  112. as the Lord had said. All right.

  113. Go on down to verse 32 of Exodus chapter

    Exodus 8 chapter mention

  114. 8. What's what's that verse eight? But

  115. Pharaoh hardened his heart at this time

  116. also, neither would he let the people

  117. go.

  118. And then you flip on over to chapter

  119. nine and then you look at verse 34 and

  120. it says, "And when Pharaoh saw that the

  121. rain, the hell, and the thunder had

  122. ceased, he sinned yet more,

  123. and he hardened his heart, he and his

  124. servants." Again, that's Exodus 9:34.

    Exodus 9:34

  125. So, y'all see how the scriptures are

  126. saying Pharaoh hardened his own heart,

  127. right? That's what it's saying. Back up

  128. to chapter 7 for just a moment. Now, go

  129. back to chapter 7 in your Bibles again,

  130. prove all things according to God's

  131. word, not mine,

  132. that other times you're going to find as

  133. you're reading, and I as I was going

  134. through these these chapters and my

  135. Bible reading, uh, you know, I was

  136. trying to get this kind of get this

  137. right in my head and put on charts here

  138. especially, but Exodus 7:13 says, "And

    Exodus 7:13

  139. Pharaoh's heart grew hard,

  140. and he did not heed them as the Lord had

  141. said, y'all see that in Exodus 7:13.

    Exodus 7:13

  142. Well, look at chapter 9 and verse 7 as

  143. well. Chapter 9 and verse 7. Then

  144. Pharaoh sent and indeed not even one of

  145. the livestock of the Israelites was

  146. dead. But the heart of Pharaoh became

  147. hard and he did not let the people go.

  148. All right. You're like, is that all of

  149. them? No.

  150. Got another one. All right. Here's the

  151. third set that I want to share with you.

  152. Chapter 9 and verse 12. But the Lord

  153. hardened the heart of Pharaoh and he did

  154. not heed them just as the Lord had

  155. spoken to Moses.

  156. And then go on to chapter 10 and verse

  157. 20. But the Lord hardened Pharaoh's

  158. heart and he did not let the children of

  159. Israel go. Now

  160. yes, the Bible does say what? God

  161. hardened Pharaoh's heart. No denying

  162. that it says it. But here's what many

  163. people miss.

  164. God does not harden

  165. Pharaoh's heart first.

  166. We can't miss this because that is that

  167. that matters. All right. I was trying to

  168. think on on how how can one illustrate

  169. this. Um,

  170. and one that helps me understand I think

  171. is is when you think about hands,

  172. calluses on hands, right? Uh,

  173. now my daddy has a whole lot more

  174. calluses on his hand than I do mine.

  175. Okay? And that's how think about how

  176. calluses are formed.

  177. The fact is, no one wakes up with

  178. calluses on their hands,

  179. do they? Because h how do how do c how

  180. are calluses formed? Well, calluses are

  181. formed from repeated friction, right?

  182. Which has to do with repeated pressure,

  183. uh repeated resistance. Like my dad many

  184. times swinging a hammer on a roof and

  185. all those types of things. There's a lot

  186. of repeated friction going on there. So,

  187. at first though, you think about the

  188. skin. The skin's tender at first. And

  189. then as it goes through a process here,

  190. thinking about that repeated friction,

  191. that repeated pressure, what happens to

  192. it? It toughens, doesn't it? And then it

  193. becomes hard. Now, if you kind of get

  194. that energy in your minds, when you

  195. think about Pharaoh, he didn't suddenly

  196. become stubborn because God flipped a

  197. switch.

  198. His heart hardened through what?

  199. Repeated resistance to God's will. Think

  200. about that. So let's ask the question

  201. with that. Keep that kind of keep that

  202. in your mind. Well really who hardened

  203. Pharaoh's heart first.

  204. Now think about the pattern and if you

  205. go through the scriptures and and again

  206. I'm I'm submitting this to you just to

  207. for consideration is you think about how

  208. this unfolds in the very account of

  209. Exodus and how they are uh you know

  210. Moses is going uh to uh uh Pharaoh in

  211. there in Egypt. And notice the pattern.

  212. God sends Moses. God gives signs. God

  213. sends warnings. What does Pharaoh do?

  214. Pharaoh refuses, right? That's what the

  215. scripture says. Then what happens next?

  216. Well, God sends a plague. What's Pharaoh

  217. do? This is This is one of my things I I

  218. kept looking back at. Pharaoh promises

  219. obedience,

  220. right? God removes the plague.

  221. Pharaoh changed his mind

  222. over and over and over. Y'all kind of

  223. see how that's working?

  224. Look at Exodus 8:15 again. But when

    Exodus 8:15

  225. Pharaoh saw that there was relief,

  226. he hardened his heart and did not heed

  227. them as the Lord had said.

  228. Now that verse alone, I believe destroys

  229. the idea that Pharaoh was a helpless

  230. victim. Um, Pharaoh hardened himself

  231. when pressure was lifted.

  232. He used

  233. mercy as an opportunity

  234. to return to rebellion.

  235. He was not forced. He was stubborn. And

  236. only after repeated selfh hardening

  237. does scripture begin saying that God

  238. hardened Pharaoh's heart. Now I want to

  239. I want to share with you I believe a

  240. principle that I take away from this is

  241. that God was simply confirming Pharaoh

  242. in the direction Pharaoh had already

  243. chosen.

  244. Does that make sense? God confirmed

  245. Pharaoh in the direction Pharaoh had

  246. already chosen. This is what I call the

  247. fork in the road. All right. The fork in

  248. the road

  249. is imagine with me for a moment. Uh you

  250. have a a man driving toward a cliff and

  251. you're like I thought it was at a fork

  252. in the road. I switched it really but

  253. the idea is the same, right?

  254. But as as the the man is driving toward

  255. a cliff, warning signs appear,

  256. roadblocks are placed, people are

  257. starting to wave him down, right? And

  258. what does that man do? Well, he ignores

  259. every warning and keeps driving. Might

  260. have the wife in the passion seat tell

  261. him, "I told you don't do this, right?"

  262. Well, eventually the authorities stop

  263. trying to redirect him and simply what

  264. they do is remove the barriers. Now,

  265. here's the question that goes with that

  266. one.

  267. Did they force him off the cliff?

  268. And we automatically said, "No, they

  269. didn't force him off the cliff.

  270. They allowed him to continue on the path

  271. he stubbornly insisted on taking.

  272. And that's what happens with Pharaoh.

  273. God removed restraint.

  274. God did not uh implant evil. He didn't

  275. do that. Pharaoh supplied that himself.

  276. So what does God harden his heart really

  277. mean?

  278. It does not mean God created rebellion

  279. inside Pharaoh.

  280. It does not mean that Pharaoh wanted to

  281. repent, but God wouldn't let him.

  282. Instead, it means God gave Pharaoh over

  283. to his own chosen disposition. Now, I

  284. think one of the verses that I I

  285. was thinking about with this one and and

  286. I think it's probably the

  287. prime text I think you could go to uh in

  288. using that same kind of language there

  289. of of giving someone over to their own

  290. uh chosen disposition is Romans chapter

    Romans 1 chapter mention

  291. 1. And I want you to go to Romans

    Romans 1 chapter mention

  292. chapter 1. I want you to notice this for

  293. yourself. And you might have uh might be

  294. considering this in Romans chapter 1.

    Romans 1 chapter mention

  295. And I want you to notice verses 18 all

  296. the way down to verse 312.

  297. No.

  298. Yeah, I want 32. I put 31 up there, but

  299. I want 32. Y'all know I like to extend

  300. the passages sometime. All right. So,

  301. Romans chapter 1, beginning at verse 18.

    Romans 1 chapter mention

  302. Read on down with me and again, pick up

  303. on these key words that that we're

  304. talking about here.

  305. Verse 18. For the wrath of God is

  306. revealed from heaven against all

  307. ungodliness and unrighteousness of men

  308. who suppressed the truth in

  309. unrighteousness.

  310. Because what may be known of God is

  311. manifest in them. For God has has shown

  312. it to them. For since the creation of

  313. the world, his invisible attributes are

  314. clearly seen being understood by the

  315. things that are made, even his eternal

  316. power and godhead, so that they are

  317. without excuse. Because although they

  318. knew God, they did not glorify him as

  319. God, nor were thankful, but became

  320. feudal in their thoughts and their

  321. foolish hearts were darkened. Verse 22,

  322. professing to be wise, they became fools

  323. and changed the glory of incorruptible

  324. God into an image made like corruptible

  325. man and birds and for-footed animals and

  326. creeping things. Therefore,

  327. God also gave them up to uncleanness and

  328. the lust of their hearts to dishonor

  329. their bodies among themselves, who

  330. exchanged the truth of God for the lie

  331. and worshiped and served the creature

  332. rather than the creator who is blessed

  333. forever. Amen. For this reason, God gave

  334. them up to vile passions. For even their

  335. women exchanged the natural use for what

  336. is against nature. Likewise also the men

  337. leaving the natural use of the woman

  338. burn in their lust for one another, men

  339. with men committing what is shameful and

  340. receiving in themselves the penalty of

  341. their error which was due. And even as

  342. they did not like to retain God in their

  343. knowledge, God gave them over to a

  344. debaseed mind to do those things which

  345. are not fitting. being filled with all

  346. unrighteousness, sexual morality,

  347. wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness,

  348. full of envy, murder, strife, deceit,

  349. evil-mindedness. They are whisperers,

  350. backbiters, haters of God, violent,

  351. proud, boasters, inventors of evil

  352. things, disobedient to parents,

  353. undescerning, untrustworthy, unloving,

  354. unforgiving, unmerciful, who, knowing

  355. the righteous judgment of God, that

  356. those who practice such things are

  357. deserving of death, not only do the

  358. same, but also approve of those who

  359. practice them. Now,

  360. I know that was a rather lengthy

  361. reading, but I'm hoping you understand

  362. why I did that.

  363. Because what you have noted, and I'm

  364. going to kind of take real quickly

  365. verses 24 down through verse 28. There

  366. you see in highlights. Okay, what's it

  367. say? God gave them up to uncleanness.

  368. Verse 26, for this reason, God gave them

  369. up to file passions. What's verse 28

  370. say? God gave them over to a debaseed

  371. mind. God sometimes

  372. gives people over to what they

  373. persistently desire.

  374. That is one of the most frightening

  375. forms of judgment in scripture if you

  376. really think about it. It's not

  377. lightning. It's not earthquakes. But God

  378. saying this, "Have it your way."

  379. I mean, think about it like this.

  380. Uh,

  381. the same sun

  382. that melts wax

  383. is the same sun that hardens clay.

  384. So the question is, did the sun change?

  385. The sun didn't change.

  386. Rather, it was the material that

  387. changed.

  388. You see, God's power, mercy, and truth

  389. were poured out through miracles. It is,

  390. you know, Exodus is such a it's powerful

  391. account, very powerful.

  392. And you see the difference, right? You

  393. have the sun that is that is melting the

  394. wax yet at the same time hardening clay.

  395. And when I say that the what I mean by

  396. that is you have Israel who's being

  397. softened

  398. but at the same time Pharaoh hardened.

  399. You see the different materials that's

  400. that's happening there. So the

  401. difference wasn't God

  402. it was the heart

  403. receiving him.

  404. And then the automatic question that

  405. sometimes people ask is well why would

  406. God allow this? And I think, well,

  407. that's, you know, it's a good question

  408. and it's one that certainly need Well,

  409. let's ask that one.

  410. Why would God allow this? Well, if you

  411. go back to Exodus chapter 9 and again,

    Exodus 9 chapter mention

  412. look at verse 16.

  413. It says specifically here, but indeed

  414. for this purpose, I have raised you up

  415. that I may show my power in you and that

  416. my name may be declared in all the

  417. earth. This is the answer that's being

  418. given to that very question really,

  419. isn't it? That through Pharaoh's

  420. stubbornness, there's some lessons that

  421. are taught. First of all, I believe

  422. Israel learned that God delivers.

  423. Second, Egypt learned that God reigns.

  424. And third, the world learned that God

  425. keeps his promises.

  426. So really, Pharaoh became an object

  427. lesson at this point. Not because God

  428. made him evil, but because Pharaoh

  429. refused repentance.

  430. See, there were deals being made. Y I

  431. put it that way. But you know, Moses

  432. would go to to Pharaoh.

  433. Pharaoh would say, "Oh, I'm not going to

  434. do this." Then the plague would come.

  435. Pharaoh's like, "Okay, I'll do it. I'll

  436. let him go." And you know, next thing

  437. you know, he changes his mind.

  438. You see, God used Pharaoh's rebellion to

  439. reveal his glory. That's what he did.

  440. Now, we might also ask the question is,

  441. what's all this teach us?

  442. As we bring this lesson full circle,

  443. Pharaoh isn't just ancient history.

  444. He is actually a warning.

  445. And I would say what number one I I

  446. thought

  447. hearts harden gradually.

  448. I'll submit to you that no one wakes up

  449. one day completely cold to God.

  450. Rather, it's something that happens

  451. slowly and over time

  452. happens in in various ways. And you

  453. could ignoring sermons, uh delayed

  454. obedience, justified sin, postpone

  455. decisions. And you know what each

  456. refusal does? It makes the next one

  457. easier.

  458. When you go back to Romans chapter one,

  459. that was a course that they were set.

  460. They they had put their minds that they

  461. were going to be in rebellion and they

  462. were going to again uh follow after that

  463. uncleanness. They they were they were

  464. not thankful. They became feudal in

  465. their thoughts. It says their foolish

  466. hearts were darkened. They professed

  467. themselves to be wise. They became

  468. fools. They changed the glory of the

  469. incredible God in image made like

  470. incredible man. And what's it say? God

  471. gave them up.

  472. Their hearts were already set on a

  473. course. Now, this is one I was reminded

  474. of. I'm reminded of this one quite

  475. often, actually throughout the week. And

  476. I hope that this reminds you tomorrow

  477. morning. So, the Lord gives another day

  478. and your alarm clock is going off. All

  479. right? You I'm going to tie this one

  480. into this. Okay? So, you're going to

  481. automatic when your alarm clock's going

  482. off, you know what you're going to do?

  483. You're going to think about this point

  484. in this sermon, right? You're going to

  485. think about it.

  486. How many of us use a snooze button on

  487. alarm clock? You don't have to raise

  488. your hand, but I know we do. Okay, I do.

  489. All right. It's one of those annoying

  490. things. That thing starts blaring in

  491. your ear and you know what you do? You

  492. hit that snooze button. You're like,

  493. "Five more minutes."

  494. That thing goes off again. And what do

  495. you say? Five more minutes.

  496. And you might repeat that for about 20

  497. to 30 or 45 more minutes. I don't know.

  498. That's really how it works though. Okay,

  499. when I think about this, I think about

  500. Pharaoh in the sense of hitting the

  501. snooze button.

  502. There is alarm going off,

  503. especially the frogs. That that's one of

  504. my that's one of my favorites, I guess,

  505. when I see the frogs of the plague. They

  506. were all over the land and and you know

  507. and and he was given the remedy. He said

  508. this is how you can fix this.

  509. But what did Pharaoh say?

  510. Tomorrow, you know, one more day with

  511. the frogs is what we call that one.

  512. That's a sermon all in itself. One more

  513. day.

  514. Said that sounds absolutely insane. But

  515. he was hitting the snooze button is what

  516. he was doing. He was saying I'll obey

  517. later. I'll deal with that eventually.

  518. I'm not ready yet. You see, that's the

  519. snooze button.

  520. But here's the thing. Every time you hit

  521. snooze, it becomes easier to stay

  522. asleep. Would you agree with that? I

  523. know. I like the snooze button. Okay.

  524. But when spiritually, think about how

  525. that works. Pharaoh kept hitting snooze

  526. and eventually the alarm stopped

  527. ringing.

  528. You ever had that happen to you? That's

  529. happened to me. And the next thing I'm

  530. late.

  531. We got to be careful

  532. about hitting the snooze

  533. because hearts harden gradually.

  534. The next one I would share with you in

  535. this I believe we learned is that God's

  536. patience is not permission.

  537. Pharaoh mistook mercy for approval. And

  538. you kind of see that throughout that

  539. that account that that each lifted

  540. plague convinced him really he was just

  541. I would say playing games that he didn't

  542. need to play.

  543. People still do that. Okay?

  544. You know, sometimes I haven't been

  545. struck down. That's a scary one. Uh,

  546. nothing bad happened,

  547. so I must be okay.

  548. No, that's grace.

  549. And we have to understand that when

  550. we're talking about grace, we're talking

  551. about mercy.

  552. Very, very serious stuff. Even as Romans

  553. 6 and verse one talks about, what shall

  554. we say then? Shall we continue in sin

  555. that grace may abound? Certainly not.

  556. How shall we who died to sin live any

  557. long in it? Or do you not know that as

  558. many of us were baptized into Christ,

  559. Jesus were baptized in his death,

  560. therefore we were buried with him

  561. through baptism to death, that just as

  562. Christ was raised from the dead by the

  563. glory of the father, even so we also

  564. should walk to newness of life.

  565. You see,

  566. we don't want to be playing around

  567. with God's longsuffering.

  568. We should be thankful that he's

  569. long-suffering toward us, not willing

  570. that any should perish, but that all

  571. should come to repentance. We know from

  572. from that of second Peter 3 and verse 9,

  573. we should be very thankful for that.

  574. But we shouldn't be saying that God's

  575. patience is permission. No,

  576. don't mistake mercy for approval. Don't

  577. mistake that.

  578. We have to be very serious about what

  579. God is trying to teach us and guide us

  580. in and be thankful for his grace

  581. and not abuse such things. And last but

  582. not least, I think share with you on

  583. this is what does this teach us today is

  584. that God will respect your choice.

  585. If someone repeatedly resists God,

  586. God may eventually stop striving. And we

  587. say that's that's terrifying. It really

  588. is. Not not because God is cruel, but

  589. because he honors human choice.

  590. God is not forcing people to do whatever

  591. you or or to do whatever he wants them

  592. to do. We're not robots. That's not the

  593. way he created us. He created us that we

  594. have free will, right? The free moral

  595. agency of man. We've heard of those kind

  596. of words before. and God will respect

  597. our choice.

  598. But as we see in Romans chapter one,

  599. when those choices are heading towards

  600. that cliff or we keep hitting the snooze

  601. button, right? Whatever illustration you

  602. want to use tonight with any of these

  603. points,

  604. he's going to let us. He's going to let

  605. us

  606. just like he allowed Pharaoh down that

  607. course of action.

  608. So

  609. let's ask the question again. Did God

  610. harden Pharaoh's heart?

  611. Yes. You're like, "Wait a second. What

  612. are we doing?"

  613. I say yes to that question

  614. because after all that we have looked at

  615. already from the scriptures,

  616. God hardened Pharaoh's heart

  617. only after Pharaoh hardened it first.

  618. That's the answer to that question.

  619. God did not override Pharaoh's will.

  620. He honored.

  621. And that should cause every one of us to

  622. pause.

  623. Because the same God who respected

  624. Pharaoh's choice respects yours, too.

  625. He respects mine.

  626. Now,

  627. I think about it from a father's

  628. standpoint as a parent

  629. that my kids can do

  630. whatever, right? They they they have

  631. their own will

  632. and I'm there to guide them and instruct

  633. them and all of those things.

  634. But guess what?

  635. They will make their own decisions. I

  636. don't force them by any means. There's

  637. disciplinance involved obviously.

  638. But guess what? As they get older,

  639. they make their choices.

  640. They make them.

  641. Now, I'm there to guide them and to say,

  642. "Hey, that's not that's you won't do

  643. that." But ultimately, who's going to

  644. make the decision?

  645. They are.

  646. And and if you consider

  647. as as if we're standing on the shoreline

  648. and that tide is is coming in

  649. now. You can step forward into the water

  650. or you can step back,

  651. but you can't stop the tide, can we?

  652. We sure can. So the question is whether

  653. you know when we think about how God's

  654. will is moving forward. The question is

  655. not whether God will accomplish his

  656. purpose.

  657. The question is whether we will soften

  658. our hearts and walk with him or harden

  659. ourselves and be swept aside.

  660. And again it always ends up back where.

  661. It's my choice. It's your choice.

  662. All scripture is given by inspiration of

  663. God is pro for doctrine for proof for

  664. correction for instruction and

  665. righteousness that the man of God may

  666. perfect may be complete thoroughly

  667. furnished into all good works

  668. right here 23 16-1 17 is teaching us it

  669. guides he instructs us

  670. but what do we do with

  671. We see what happened to Pharaoh.

  672. Hebrews chapter 3, I will leave you with

    Hebrews 3 chapter mention

  673. in Hebrews 3:12-15. Why are there so

    Hebrews 3:12–15

  674. many warnings? There's a lot of warnings

  675. for good reason. Even the Israelites had

  676. some lessons to learn in this. Hebrews

    Hebrews 3:12–15

  677. 3:12-15. Beware, brethren, lest there be

  678. in any of you an evil heart of unbelief

  679. in departing from the living God. But

  680. exhort one another daily what is called

  681. today, lest any of you be hardened.

  682. Y'all see that word? Hardened through

  683. the deceitfulness of sin. For we have

  684. become partakers of Christ. If we hold

  685. the beginning of our confidence

  686. steadfast to the end, Wilder said today,

  687. if you will hear his voice, do not

  688. harden your hearts as in the rebellion.

  689. Interesting word.

  690. He's basically telling us the same thing

  691. we have seen throughout history. the

  692. very possibility of to being able to

  693. harden our hearts, to sear our

  694. consciences, all of the all of these

  695. words you find in the scriptures. It is

  696. possible

  697. that we can do that. And you know what?

  698. Not that God is again, he wants us to be

  699. in a relationship with him. He wants us

  700. to to to you know, again, love him,

  701. but he's not going to force love.

  702. That's up to us. Do we love him? Do we

  703. love his word?

  704. He has given us all things that pertain

  705. to life and godliness. What are we doing

  706. with it? If you will hear his voice, do

  707. not harden your heart as rebellion. That

  708. happened with Israel. We see it time and

  709. time again. It still happens today. We

  710. have to be on guard because you know

  711. what? At some point, we've hit the

  712. snooze so many times.

  713. You know what we've done?

  714. Our hearts have become hardened

  715. gradually.

  716. And guess what?

  717. God will give us over.

  718. Will give us over.

  719. There's more lessons that I could share

  720. with you on that. My time is my time is

  721. uh coming to to a close.

  722. But I hope that what I have shared with

  723. you from this very question, it's a very

  724. good question that's asked from our

  725. scripture reading, from our our yearly

  726. Bible reading, and you're going to find

  727. more of these things. More of these

  728. questions are going to come up. And

  729. again, you're not the only one that's

  730. asking. There's other people that very

  731. interested in this very topic tonight

  732. and have asked this question over

  733. generations.

  734. But I believe we see in a in a true

  735. study of God's word how the scriptures

  736. have simply answered

  737. and how that certainly applies to us

  738. today how we have to be careful that we

  739. don't end up like Pharaoh

  740. or even those of Romans chapter 1 that

    Romans 1 chapter mention

  741. speaks of there.

  742. So with that

  743. I will say to you what the scriptures of

  744. Hebrews 3 we just read it doesn't say

  745. tomorrow. It doesn't say someday,

  746. it says today.

  747. So, in this invitation that's being

  748. given, the song of encouragement, if

  749. you've been resisting, if you've been

  750. delaying, if your heart feels distant

  751. and maybe have been hitting that snooze

  752. button over and over and over again,

  753. I submit to you, now is the time. Today

  754. is the day of salvation that the Hebrew

  755. writer even speaks of. Jesus still

  756. invites and grace is still offered and

  757. forgiveness is still available. How

  758. thankful we are of how wonderful that

  759. God can soften even the heart

  760. that has grown

  761. calloused.

  762. It's just we have to have open minds to

  763. hear the word and allow him to change. I

  764. believe we see that from many examples

  765. throughout the scriptures of those who

  766. turned around just like Saul of Tarsus.

  767. Maybe that you're in need of prayer.

  768. Maybe you need repentance, baptism for

  769. the mission of your sins, encouragement,

  770. whatever your spiritual need while you

  771. can. And with that, I certainly do

  772. appreciate your kind attention in this

  773. in this this lesson and this Q&A that we

  774. have our time in this evening. And if

  775. you're subject to an invitation call, I

  776. invite you to come while we stand.
