  1. This evening, our sermon and song

  2. service, the theme that I've chosen is

  3. uh is our is worthy of our praise. And

  4. we're going to be looking specifically

  5. from Psalm 9. Psalm 9. Uh it's actually

  6. one of the chapters that we've had in

  7. our yearly uh year annual Bible reading

  8. here. And I'll submit to you that as we

  9. go through this as these scriptures,

  10. uh, when you read Psalm 9, if you can

  11. remember back when we read that in our

  12. reading plan this year, Psalm 9 is is

  13. actually it's a song of praise born out

  14. of conflict, confidence, and conviction.

  15. And David is not writing from a place

  16. where life is easy.

  17. uh he's writing as one who has seen

  18. enemies, trouble, oppression, and

  19. injustice. Yet, what I found interesting

  20. about this psalm and why I wanted to use

  21. this as a theme tonight for us is in the

  22. middle of all of it, he lifts his eyes

  23. higher than his circumstances

  24. and says in essence, God is still

  25. worthy.

  26. Worthy of our praise.

  27. And that's one of the great lessons of

  28. the Christian life. And I believe that

  29. pre praise is not merely the language of

  30. convenience. Uh praise is the language

  31. of faith. Uh anyone can praise when the

  32. when the road is smooth. Uh when the

  33. bank account is full and you know all

  34. those things, the family's healthy and

  35. everything goes according to what we

  36. consider to be our plan or plans. But it

  37. takes a heart that's anchored in God to

  38. praise him when life has bruised the

  39. soul. And Psalm 9, as you'll find,

  40. teaches us that God's people can still

  41. sing in a broken world because God has

  42. been faithful in the past. God is

  43. reigning in the present and God will not

  44. fail in the future. The child of God

  45. does not praise because he has no

  46. problems. He praises because his

  47. problems do not dethrone his God.

  48. That's a great danger, I believe, is

  49. allowing trouble to become louder than

  50. truth. Because if we're not careful,

  51. burdens will preach to us more than the

  52. Bible does. Trials will begin to define

  53. our outlook. Fear will begin to set our

  54. theology, but Psalm 9 calls us back to a

  55. steadier place. It reminds us that our

  56. God is not absent. He is not indifferent

  57. and he is not defeated. So with that in

  58. mind, let's go to our first scripture

  59. reading. Psalm 9:es 1 and two. Psalm 9

    Psalms 9:1

  60. verses 1 and two. And following the

  61. scripture reading by brother Matt

  62. Mining, Brother Kyle Copelan will lead

  63. us in our first song, Magnify, O

  64. Magnify.

  65. Psalm 91 1 and 2.

  66. I will praise you, oh Lord, with my

  67. whole heart. I will tell of all your

  68. marvelous works. I will be glad and

  69. rejoice in in you. I will sing praise to

  70. your name, oh most high.

  71. Let's

  72. stand for

  73. magnify.

  74. Oh, magnify.

  75. Oh, magnify

  76. our God and Father.

  77. Magnify.

  78. Oh magnify,

  79. oh magnify

  80. our God.

  81. He has made us in his glorious

  82. image.

  83. We ever strive to be like him.

  84. He alone is holy.

  85. He alone is rightous.

  86. Cry aloud with gladness our joy in him.

  87. Magny,

  88. oh magnify,

  89. oh magnify

  90. our God and father.

  91. Magnify.

  92. Oh magnify.

  93. Oh magnify

  94. our God.

  95. He has given us his son to save us now

  96. reconciled to be like him.

  97. Give him praise forever

  98. and renew him out with gladness our joy

  99. in him.

  100. Cry out with gladness our joy in him.

  101. Magny

  102. magnify.

  103. Oh magnify

  104. our God and father.

  105. Magnify,

  106. oh magnify,

  107. oh magy

  108. our God.

  109. He will bring us to his

  110. glory

  111. to perfect fellowship with him.

  112. We will see his wonder.

  113. We will see his beauty.

  114. Cry aloud with gladness our joy in

  115. cry with gladness our joy in him.

  116. I would say there's enough in those two

  117. verses that brother Matt Mining read to

  118. reshape an entire life. The first thing

  119. I want to point out from those verses

  120. that praise must come from the whole

  121. heart. David says, "I will praise you,

  122. oh Lord, with my whole heart." That's

  123. not casual. I don't believe you see that

  124. as casual. That's not half-hearted

  125. devotion. That's not what we'd say as

  126. routine worship. That's a a a man fully

  127. engaged in the praise of God.

  128. There's a difference between saying

  129. words and offering worship.

  130. A person can be present in the assembly

  131. and absent in spirit.

  132. If you don't think that's true,

  133. think about how you might have been in

  134. math class. I use that one as my

  135. example. You were there, but you weren't

  136. there. You know what I mean? tell me

  137. that's not true or what other subject

  138. you might have.

  139. Now, we can sing the right notes uh

  140. while our heart is far away. We can pray

  141. familiar phrases while our mind is

  142. chained to earthly things. But David

  143. says with my whole heart, God has never

  144. has never been impressed with divided

  145. devotion. He does not want leftovers. I

  146. think that made clear in Malachi for

  147. certain. He doesn't want a fragment of

  148. our affection. He is worthy of the whole

  149. heart.

  150. Magnify, oh magnify, as we've just sang.

  151. So often, how much time and energy do we

  152. give the world versus God?

  153. Think about that.

  154. Our enthusiasm, our attention

  155. over what over what God so certainly is

  156. worthy and praise.

  157. But true worship is not God getting the

  158. scraps and the leftovers of our of our

  159. life. It's God receiving the first and

  160. the best of who we are.

  161. Friends, a a heart that is full of God

  162. has no room left to make idols out of

  163. lesser things.

  164. Think about a the wedding day. On

  165. wedding day, a husband does not say, "I

  166. give you part of my love, a part of my

  167. loyalty, a part of my life.

  168. Well, that wouldn't be a covenant, would

  169. it?

  170. That would actually be an insult.

  171. Love worthy of a vow demands wholeness.

  172. And in an even greater way, our covenant

  173. relationship with God demands the whole

  174. heart. Isn't that what it's for seeing

  175. here? So, we ask that question. We

  176. worship, we worship out of habit, or is

  177. it from from the heart? Do I praise God

  178. only when I feel like it? Or do I allow

  179. distractions and discouragement and sin

  180. to divide my devotion?

  181. Because the Lord deserves more than

  182. attendance. He deserves affection. He

  183. deserves reverence. He deserves

  184. wholehearted praise. I believe this song

  185. that we're about to sing certainly does

  186. that for us. How Great Thou Art. Let's

  187. sing How Great Thou Art with Mike Burton

  188. will lead us in all verses of this song.

  189. Oh Lord my God,

  190. when I in awome wonder

  191. the world I hands.

  192. I see the stars.

  193. I hear the rolling thunder.

  194. I grew up

  195. the univerior

  196. God to thee.

  197. How great thou are.

  198. and sings my soul,

  199. my savior God to thee.

  200. How great thou are.

  201. How great

  202. are

  203. through the woods

  204. and forest

  205. I wonder

  206. and hear the bird

  207. sing sweet sleep sweet sleep sweet sleep

  208. sweet sleep sweet sleep sweet sleep sweet sleep in my dreams

  209. when I down

  210. from the mountain grand

  211. and hear the

  212. fleavior

  213. God to thee.

  214. How great thou are,

  215. how great thou are.

  216. Then sings my soul,

  217. myior

  218. God to thee.

  219. How great thou are.

  220. How great

  221. are

  222. God?

  223. I s

  224. on the cross

  225. my burden gladly

  226. he

  227. died

  228. to take away my s

  229. Then sings my soul,

  230. my savior God to thee.

  231. How great thou are.

  232. This is my soul,

  233. my

  234. God to thee.

  235. How great thou

  236. great

  237. when Christ come

  238. with shout

  239. and take me home.

  240. What joy shall fill my heart

  241. when I shall

  242. incl

  243. my soul. Oh

  244. myior

  245. God to thee.

  246. How great thou are.

  247. How great thou are

  248. my soul.

  249. Myior

  250. God to thee.

  251. How great thou are.

  252. How great

  253. thou,

  254. you know, we think about these songs.

  255. When the heart is fully given to God, it

  256. it not only praises him inwardly, it

  257. does something else. It begins to speak

  258. openly about him outwardly. That's what

  259. you find that scripture as well is God's

  260. people must tell of his marvelous works.

  261. I will tell of all of your marvelous

  262. works. So when you think about praise,

  263. praise is not meant to be private.

  264. Think about that. Gratitude that is real

  265. eventually becomes something we we might

  266. use that word testify or testimony.

  267. And David did not just feel thankful.

  268. What did he do? He spoke of God's works.

  269. I want you to think about over the last

  270. week, how many of us spoke of God's

  271. works.

  272. How many of us did that? Because one of

  273. the saddest realities among God's people

  274. is that we are often more vocal about

  275. well you can name any category you might

  276. want politics or sports or frustrations,

  277. stress, work, right? Daily

  278. inconveniences and again the list could

  279. go on and on and on

  280. than we are about the goodness of God.

  281. We can describe a bad meal in detail.

  282. Can we not do that? We can we can tell

  283. you all about the bad meal stuff, but

  284. then struggle in to describe the

  285. faithfulness of God with the same

  286. energy.

  287. David said, "I will tell."

  288. There's something powerful about a mouth

  289. that remembers what God has done. And

  290. I'm not saying that this is uh meaning

  291. emotional exaggeration

  292. or some type of manufactured story or

  293. anything like that. It means that we

  294. intentionally speak of his providence,

  295. his mercy, his deliverance, his truth,

  296. his saving grace. Those are several

  297. things. And God's marvelous works. I

  298. mean, just think about it. We see it in

  299. creation every day

  300. and providence and judgment, his

  301. covenant dealings supremely in

  302. redemption through Jesus Christ.

  303. Friends, what I'm submitting to you is

  304. what David is sharing with us. Even from

  305. a heart that a silent

  306. Christian in a noisy world has forgotten

  307. how much God has done.

  308. Imagine a man who's rescued from a

  309. burning house.

  310. He barely made it out alive. His family

  311. was saved because someone rushed in and

  312. brought them out. You think that that

  313. man would spend the rest of his life

  314. never mentioning the one who came and

  315. rescued him and his household? You think

  316. that? Never even think of that guy ever

  317. say anything about him?

  318. I think we know the answer to that. Of

  319. course not.

  320. Because here's the thing. The greater

  321. the rescue, the louder the gratitude

  322. ought to be.

  323. I thought of the many who put on Christ

  324. in baptism in the book of Acts that

  325. we've studied so far even and one of

  326. those we studied not too long ago is the

  327. Ethiopian unic. I want us to read that

  328. passage there from Acts chapter 8. The

    Acts 8 chapter mention

  329. Scottet is going to read Acts 8:es

  330. 34-39.

  331. Listen to these words.

  332. So the unic answered Philillip and said,

  333. I ask you, of whom does the prophet say

  334. this, of himself or of some other man?

  335. Then Philip opened his mouth and began

  336. at the scripture, preached Jesus to him.

  337. Now as they went down the road, they

  338. came to some water. And the unic said,

  339. see here is water. What hinders me from

  340. being baptized? Then Philip said, if you

  341. believe with all your heart, you may.

  342. And he answered and said, "I believe

  343. that Jesus Christ is the son of God." So

  344. he commanded the chariot to stand still.

  345. And both Philip and the unic went down

  346. into the water, and he baptized him. Now

  347. when they came up out of the water, the

  348. spirit of the Lord caught Philip away,

  349. so that the unic saw him no more, and he

  350. went on his way rejoicing.

  351. Don't notice anything particular in that

  352. verse 39 even what it what did the

  353. Ethiopian unic do? He came out of that

  354. watery grave. You know from Romans 6 to

  355. walk in newness of life

  356. in Christ.

  357. It says he went on his way doing what?

  358. Rejoicing. You think he went and told

  359. some people? I think we know the answer

  360. to that. What what what am I pointing to

  361. again? What I mentioned a moment ago.

  362. The greater the rescue, the louder the

  363. gratitude ought to be. That one who has

  364. been rescued from sin, from

  365. condemnation, from hopelessness, apart

  366. from Christ, how can we not tell of his

  367. wondrous and marvelous works?

  368. What we see here is we speak of God in

  369. our homes.

  370. We speak of God to our children.

  371. We speak of God to our brethren. We

  372. speak of God to our neighbors, our

  373. co-workers. We speak of God when we are

  374. afraid. We speak of God when we are

  375. thankful. And the list again could go

  376. on. The tongue that complains constantly

  377. has forgotten

  378. how to speak joyfully.

  379. Next song we'll sing that right along

  380. with our theme tonight. Brother Kyle

  381. Copel will lead us in number 48 on

  382. Zion's glorious summon. Holy, holy, holy

  383. Lord God Almighty which was and is and

  384. is to come. Revelations 4 and verse 8.

  385. And following this song, Brother Bill

  386. Rose will lead us in our scripture

  387. reading from Psalm 9:es 3-8.

  388. Z glorious

  389. hosting

  390. by blood. I am the king in strings.

  391. I heard the song and

  392. joy.

  393. I heard the song and

  394. here all who suffer

  395. for true Lord Jesus

  396. name

  397. and hail.

  398. Amen.

  399. And bow before the great

  400. I

  401. am.

  402. and

  403. before the great

  404. everlasting

  405. age

  406. and sings of forever.

  407. You

  408. rises

  409. to

  410. holy

  411. Holy,

  412. holy

  413. Lord

  414. God of host on high

  415. mighty

  416. Holy,

  417. holy,

  418. holy

  419. Lord

  420. I host.

  421. I adore.

  422. When my enemies turn back, they shall

  423. fall and perish at your presence. For

  424. you have maintained my right and my

  425. cause. You sat on the throne in judging

  426. and righteousness. You have rebuked the

  427. nations. You have destroyed the wicked.

  428. You have bladed out their name forever

  429. and ever. Oh enemy and destructions are

  430. finished forever. and you have destroyed

  431. cities, even their memory has perished.

  432. But the Lord shall endure forever, as he

  433. prepared his throne for judgment. He

  434. shall judge the world and righteousness,

  435. and he shall administer judgment for the

  436. peoples and and upright uprightness.

  437. As David remembers and speaks of God's

  438. works, he then grounds his confidence in

  439. this truth. And the truth that he shared

  440. right here is as brother Aiden Mosley

  441. just read for us is God is not merely

  442. active.

  443. He is reigning. That God still sits on

  444. the throne reigning. What verse seven

  445. just said, "But the Lord shall endure

  446. forever. He has prepared his throne for

  447. judgment." I think it's quite we're

  448. quite aware that David had enemies.

  449. Uh he saw wickedness.

  450. He knew oppression of man. Yet his

  451. confidence was rooted in the unchanging

  452. throne of God. That is the great

  453. stabilizing truth of scripture that God

  454. has not surrendered his throne.

  455. Earthly thrones, they've changed hands,

  456. don't they? Governments, they rise and

  457. they fall. We see that throughout

  458. history. Cultures shift.

  459. Nations tremble. Courts, they fail.

  460. Men disappoint, but what do we see David

  461. saying? God still

  462. reigns.

  463. I think about even last week I was

  464. seeing how the world looks so chaotic,

  465. doesn't it?

  466. It's chaotic

  467. because what we see is movement on the

  468. surface. That's what we see.

  469. Psalm 9 reminds us to look above the

  470. surface. Above all earthly confusion is

  471. a heavenly throne occupied by a

  472. righteous judge.

  473. What does that mean for us today living

  474. in 2026?

  475. Evil is not ultimate.

  476. Injustice is not unnoticed.

  477. History is not random. And the people of

  478. God are never abandoned to chance.

  479. Friends, when we

  480. when our hearts when they forget the

  481. throne of God, you know what it does? It

  482. begins bowing to the fears of men.

  483. Some are overwhelmed by what they see in

  484. society,

  485. shaken by what they see in the family.

  486. Some are burdened even by what they see

  487. in their own life. But Psalm 9 says

  488. that yes, there's enemies, no doubt.

  489. But it says there is a greater king.

  490. Not denying trouble

  491. but declares a throne. Does not ignore

  492. injustice

  493. but simply reminds us of righteous

  494. judgment.

  495. And I would submit to you that the

  496. church must never act as though the

  497. future of truth depends on the strength

  498. of man. Truth rests securely in the

  499. reign of God. Because what the psalmist

  500. is reminding of it reminding us tonight

  501. is that our God, he is alive. We're

  502. going to sing this song. Brother Roland

  503. Morris is going to lead us in all verses

  504. of number nine. Our God, he is alive.

  505. And then brother Keith Weise will lead

  506. us in our next scripture reading after

  507. this song, Psalm 9:es 9 and 10. If you

  508. will please stand for this song as well.

  509. All four.

  510. There is beyond the edge of

  511. the rock.

  512. He lifted

  513. and break the world with his great mind.

  514. There is a

  515. >> we

  516. promise our God our God

  517. is our God. He is our God.

  518. There was a long long time ago

  519. the prophets heard.

  520. He is the God that we should know

  521. who speaks from his inspired

  522. word.

  523. There is our God.

  524. >> There is our God. He alone

  525. we

  526. survive from the star.

  527. >> From the star.

  528. He is our God.

  529. I am

  530. s

  531. from

  532. God holders

  533. they cannot find

  534. for God alone does

  535. understand

  536. There is a God.

  537. He is alive. He is

  538. we

  539. from our God.

  540. He is our God. We are God.

  541. Our God

  542. upon the tree.

  543. All

  544. that

  545. from sin might set them free.

  546. Ever

  547. within

  548. there is a God.

  549. from our God. Our God

  550. is our God. He is our God.

  551. And that's Psalm 9 9-10. The Lord also

  552. will be a refuge for the oppressed, a

  553. refuge in times of of trouble. And those

  554. who will know your name will put their

  555. trust in you. For you, Lord, have for

  556. have not forsaken those who seek you.

  557. Because God reigns. His

  558. people do not have to live in despair

  559. because as we just see there from that

  560. passage, they can make him their refuge.

  561. I think that's a very precious truth

  562. that God is not merely a ruler over all.

  563. He's a refuge for his people. A refuge

  564. as we think know is a place of safety.

  565. It's a shelter. Some might call it a

  566. stronghold.

  567. somewhere you run when danger is real.

  568. And David says the Lord is that refuge.

  569. Notice that the text does not say his

  570. people never experienced oppression.

  571. They never experienced troubles. It says

  572. what? They have somewhere to go.

  573. Faith does not erase all storms,

  574. but it gives the soul an anchor in the

  575. storm.

  576. And notice the connection between

  577. knowledge and trust. It says that those

  578. who know your name will put their trust

  579. in you.

  580. The more deeply we know God, the more

  581. confidently we trust him.

  582. Weak trust, what that does often comes

  583. from shallow acquaintance.

  584. The soul that spends no time with God

  585. finds it hard, finds it very difficult

  586. to lean on him when the winds arise.

  587. Friends, what we run to in trouble

  588. reveals what or whom we truly trust.

  589. Because trouble reveals whether God has

  590. been our true refuge or merely a Sunday

  591. concept.

  592. Let me ask you, where do you run when

  593. your heart is heavy? Maybe a marriage is

  594. strained,

  595. when your body is hurting, when your

  596. mind is burdened, when your future seems

  597. uncertain. Where do you go?

  598. Some run to anger, some run to

  599. distraction, some run to pleasure, some

  600. run to bitterness,

  601. some run to the opinions of men.

  602. But the child of God is called to run to

  603. the Lord. Why is that?

  604. Because there's hope there in that

  605. refuge

  606. just as in the song that we'll sing.

  607. Next is because he lives.

  608. Because he lives. Number 610. We'll sing

  609. this song together to remind us. Brother

  610. Kyle Hill will lead us in all verses of

  611. this song and then brother Kyle Hill

  612. will lead us in our next scripture

  613. reading of Psalm 9 19 and 20.

  614. Number 610.

  615. >> God's son

  616. Jesus.

  617. He came to you

  618. and forive.

  619. He lived and died

  620. to bind my

  621. empty gra

  622. to prove ourior

  623. because he lives

  624. tomorrow

  625. because he lives

  626. is

  627. because I know

  628. he holds a future

  629. and life is worth living

  630. because he lives.

  631. How sweet to

  632. our newborn baby.

  633. and build the

  634. enjoy

  635. but gurent

  636. because he lives

  637. he

  638. I can face tomorrow

  639. because he lives.

  640. All fear is gone.

  641. Because I know

  642. he holds a future

  643. and light is worth

  644. because he liv

  645. my I s

  646. with pain

  647. and

  648. death

  649. to victory.

  650. I'll see the light of glory and the

  651. glory

  652. because he lives

  653. tomorrow

  654. because he lives

  655. because I know

  656. he holds a future

  657. and his word

  658. just because he liv

  659. reading out of Psalm versus ES 19- 20

  660. Arise, O Lord, and do not let man

  661. prevail. Let the nations be judged

  662. before thee. Put them in fear, oh Lord,

  663. and let the nations know that they are

  664. but men.

  665. When God becomes our refuge, what David

  666. is saying is that praise deepens. We do

  667. not merely ask him for help. We remember

  668. that he does not forget his people.

  669. My last point that I'll give you

  670. tonight, there were several other ones

  671. that I had obviously and you might be

  672. thinking, well, missed a gap in the

  673. verses there,

  674. but one I wanted, final one I wanted to

  675. give you is this. Man is frail, but God

  676. is final.

  677. that passage

  678. that brother Kyle just read.

  679. I think this is a fitting conclusion

  680. because David calls on God to act so

  681. that mankind will remember its limits.

  682. You know that one of man's oldest sins

  683. is selfexaltation.

  684. Humanity keeps trying to live as though

  685. it's sovereign.

  686. answerable to no one,

  687. accountable to no throne higher than

  688. itself.

  689. But yet Psalm 9 reminds us that men are

  690. just that,

  691. but men.

  692. Put them in fear, oh Lord, that the

  693. nations may know themselves

  694. to be but men, say,

  695. I think that's humbling.

  696. I think it's corrected. I think it's

  697. needed

  698. because we live in a world that is well,

  699. if I use the word drunk on human ability

  700. because men boast in power, technology,

  701. influence, wealth, intellect, military,

  702. strength, self-exression. That list

  703. could keep going.

  704. But yet all of it's fragile, isn't it?

  705. All of it's fragile.

  706. Because let me submit something to you.

  707. One disease,

  708. one accident,

  709. one crisis,

  710. one breath withheld.

  711. And proud man is reminded of how small

  712. he really is.

  713. David reminds us tonight, God alone is

  714. ultimate. God alone is eternal. And God

  715. alone is judge.

  716. Friends, the beginning of wisdom,

  717. fear God.

  718. Beginning of wisdom is to remembering

  719. that we are not God

  720. and we never were.

  721. As I was thinking about our fragility,

  722. a picture came into my mind. I had to

  723. search for one because, you know, this

  724. is the idea that I had in my mind is of

  725. a sand castle.

  726. Now, I did not build that obviously.

  727. Make sure that's clear.

  728. But you know that sand castle looks

  729. quite impressive on the shore.

  730. The towers,

  731. walls,

  732. designs,

  733. all the detail may all be there.

  734. But when the tide comes,

  735. its weakness is revealed.

  736. So much of human pride

  737. is like that sand castle.

  738. It's impressive. No doubt it's

  739. impressive

  740. only until it meets the tide of reality.

  741. But the one who builds on God stands on

  742. that which outlasts the tide.

  743. What Psalm 9 has done is binds us and

  744. calls us to humility. It calls sinners

  745. to repentance. It calls saints to

  746. dependence. And it calls all people to

  747. reverence before God. We must never

  748. build our lives on human strength. We

  749. must build on

  750. God Almighty, our creator and sustainer

  751. of all things. So friends, in this time

  752. that we spent looking at these few

  753. scriptures and the theme that we

  754. consider tonight in our sermon and song

  755. lesson, Psalm 9 is a psalm for troubled

  756. spirits,

  757. troubled hearts, faithful lips. It

  758. teaches us to praise God wholeheartedly,

  759. speak of his marvelous works, trust his

  760. throne, run to him as refuge, rest in

  761. his remembrance, and humble ourselves

  762. before his final authority.

  763. Because the great need of our time is

  764. not simply more information.

  765. It's deeper God centeredness.

  766. Because we are surrounded by voices that

  767. magnify men, that magnify fear, that

  768. magnify outrage, that magnify self. But

  769. even the song that we started out with

  770. was magnify, oh magnify our God. And

  771. Psalm 9 did just that. Magnified God.

  772. And when God is rightly magnified,

  773. everything else is seen

  774. more clearly.

  775. As I close, I give you one last thing,

  776. something else to imagine.

  777. If you've ever had the wonderful

  778. privilege and opportunity to stand at

  779. the base of a mountain, quite

  780. impressive. I'll never forget the first

  781. time I went to Colorado.

  782. It was just magnificent.

  783. I've seen pictures of the mountains all

  784. the time, but I have that one time just

  785. to be able to see the mountain the first

  786. time, stand at the base of it,

  787. but then if you are to hold a small coin

  788. close to your eye,

  789. that tiny coin can block your view of

  790. the mountain entirely.

  791. Is it because the coin is bigger? I

  792. think we know the answer to that. It's

  793. not because the coin is bigger, but

  794. because it is closer.

  795. You know, that's what trouble often

  796. does. It moves so close to our thoughts

  797. that it seems bigger than God. What's

  798. David telling us in Psalm 9?

  799. Psalm 9 has essentially pulled the coin

  800. away from our eyes and let us see what

  801. the mountain

  802. truly is. Here's the point. God was

  803. always greater. It's just we had simply

  804. lost perspective.

  805. It's my hope in this lesson or the

  806. imagery that we've given in the sermon

  807. and the songs that we sang, the

  808. scriptures read, the prayers offered has

  809. reminded us that the strongest life is

  810. not the one with the fewest troubles.

  811. Friends,

  812. but the one that has learned to make

  813. much of God in every single season.

  814. If you're not a Christian,

  815. if you haven't put on the body of Christ

  816. in baptism tonight, you can do that.

  817. The greatest marvelous work God has done

  818. for you is Christ Jesus for all of us

  819. through his death, burial, and

  820. resurrection, the way of salvation has

  821. been opened, access has been given. And

  822. if you believe in Christ, what do we

  823. find in Acts chapter 8, our reading? If

    Acts 8 chapter mention

  824. you believe with all your heart, thou

  825. mayest. He says, here's what h me from

  826. being baptized. If you believe with all

  827. your heart, thou mayest. If that's if

  828. you believe, then you can put on the

  829. body of Christ in baptism, repenting of

  830. your sins, confessing Jesus, be buried

  831. with him, bapt to rise and walk in

  832. newness of life as Romans 6 3 and 4

  833. says,

  834. so you can be added to his church we

  835. talked about this morning.

  836. Or as a disciple of Christ, maybe you

  837. have allowed fear, distraction, sin, or

  838. discouragement to silence your praise.

  839. Today is a good day to return to the God

  840. who still reigns because what Psalm 9

  841. has taught us in the songs that we've

  842. sang as well is the Lord is still

  843. worthy. The Lord is still refuge. The

  844. Lord still remembers and the Lord still

  845. saves.

  846. Let us never forget that he is worthy of

  847. our praise.

  848. Song of invitation is without him.

  849. At that time you were without Christ,

  850. having no hope and without God in the

  851. world. Ephesians 2 and verse 12. The

  852. song says and speaks volumes to what we

  853. talked about tonight.

  854. Without him I could do nothing. Without

  855. him I surely fail.

  856. Don't go another day. Not another moment

  857. without. If you're a sub invitation

  858. call, won't you come as we stand to sing

  859. the song that's been

  860. Without

  861. him I could do nothing.

  862. Without

  863. him, my surus

  864. Oh Jesus,

  865. you know him today.

  866. Do not turn him away.

  867. Oh Jesus,

  868. what

  869. I will be.

  870. Without

  871. him I would be dying.

  872. Without

  873. him I beave.

  874. Without

  875. him I would be homeless.

  876. But with Jesus

  877. and God

  878. Today

  879. they're not turning

  880. the way

  881. Jesus.

  882. Oh Jesus

  883. how

  884. I

  885. >> Please seated.

  886. song before the Lord's supper number 186

  887. I stand all four verses before

  888. I stand

  889. in the present.

  890. in the

  891. for

  892. my will but

  893. he cried with tears in his sorrow

  894. and swelled drops of

  895. mine.

  896. He took my sins and my sorrows.

  897. He made him his

  898. own.

  899. He bore the bread to

  900. suffer and died alone.

  901. And with the ransoming glory,

  902. this face I am shall sing.

  903. Will be my joy through the ages

  904. to sing of his love for me.

  905. Oh, how marvelous.

  906. Oh, how wonderful

  907. my song shall ever

  908. be.

  909. How marvelous,

  910. how

  911. wonderful

  912. is my

  913. love for me.
