  1. In your Bibles, I would encourage you to

  2. turn to First Kings chapter 18. First

1 Kings 18 chapter mention 1 Kings 18 chapter mention

  3. Kings, chapter 18. This evening, we are

  4. continuing our Sunday evening lessons

  5. connected to what our our children are

  6. learning in their Bible classes. And one

  7. of the blessings of of doing this is

  8. that we are reminded that children's

  9. Bible lessons are not childish truths.

  10. Uh the language may be simple. Uh

  11. sometimes we think about the the things

  12. that they do back there with the crafts

  13. and the pictures may be colorful. Uh the

  14. memory verses may uh be short, but the

  15. truth is deep enough to search every

  16. heart in this room. And the children

  17. have been studying uh recently about

  18. Elijah. And one of those particular

  19. instances in in the life of Elijah was

  20. was that of the contest on Mount Carmel.

  21. And they have been learning about this

  22. prophet of God who uh stood before a

  23. wicked wicked king, a a compromised

  24. nation and hundreds of false prophets.

  25. And but more than that, they have been

  26. learning one of the great truths of

  27. scripture that the Lord he is God. Uh

  28. now that truth is easy to say uh but

  29. Mount Carmel reminds us that it must

  30. also be lived. Uh Israel uh in their

  31. history at this point they had reached

  32. uh a dangerous place spiritually. uh

  33. they had not necessarily

  34. uh erased the name of God uh from their

  35. memory, but they had allowed Bale to

  36. take a place in their hearts and they

  37. were, you know, trying to hold on to God

  38. and Bale at the same time. You could see

  39. a lot of the back and forth. They they

  40. wanted covenant blessings, you know, as

  41. the people of Israel uh while living in

  42. compromise. You know, they wanted the

  43. Lord when it was convenient and idols

  44. when it was desirable. Well, Elijah

  45. comes on the scene. He asks really one

  46. of the most piercing questions uh in

  47. scripture, and that's first Kings

    1 Kings 18 chapter mention

  48. chapter 18 and verse 21. I want us to

  49. see that here. It says, "And Elijah came

  50. to all the people and said, 'How long

  51. will you falter between two opinions?

  52. If the Lord is God, follow him. But if

  53. Bale, follow him." But the people

  54. answered him not a word. Now,

  55. depending on the translation that you

  56. have,

  57. such as the English Standard Version,

  58. the ESV,

  59. you'll see the word limping. Okay. It

  60. carries the idea of limping between two

  61. opinions. I've had several people want

  62. to know said you're talking about no

  63. more limping is the title. Where are you

  64. going? Because I just heard in the back

  65. that said we have several people that

  66. limp here. I'm not talking about

  67. physical limping. Okay. I'll make sure

  68. that's clear.

  69. But but the idea that that the

  70. scriptures present in the word is

  71. limping between or as we see fa

  72. faltering between two opinions. Now it's

  73. a very powerful picture that we have

  74. that Israel was not walking faithfully

  75. with God. They were here's here's the

  76. point I'm making. They were limping

  77. spiritually. Okay? because they were

  78. trying to move in two directions at the

  79. same time. Now, we're going to see this

  80. as as we go through this lesson how that

  81. was working for them. Obviously, not

  82. well. Uh but before we are too quick to

  83. cast condemnation upon them, this is

  84. where we again take some time, we got to

  85. ask some very serious questions whether

  86. we have actually done the same. Uh you

  87. know, we we may not bow before Bal. Uh

  88. we may not build an an altar uh to an

  89. idol of stone. Uh but idolatry does not

  90. need a statue to survive.

  91. Anything we've heard this right?

  92. Anything that takes place of God in the

  93. heart has become an idol. when we move

  94. him out of the first place. Anything we

  95. love more than God, anything we trust

  96. more than God, anything we obey more

  97. than God, anything we fear more than

  98. God, anything that we pursue more than

  99. God has taken a place it was never meant

  100. to hold.

  101. So this evening from first kings chapter

    1 Kings 18 chapter mention

  102. 18, we have some applications we're

  103. going to take and that is considering

  104. this thought. No more limping. If we get

  105. to the scriptures here, we're going to

  106. talk about the drought that revealed

  107. more than dry ground. Okay. Uh when you

  108. go to First Kings chapter 18, this is a,

    1 Kings 18 chapter mention

  109. you know, when you're really digging

  110. into these scriptures and and again, we

  111. probably have read this passage numerous

  112. times in our life and as I have and

  113. there's always something that comes out

  114. and and I think this is one of those

  115. points that that kind of hit me again uh

  116. in preparing this lesson. The drought

  117. revealed more than dry ground.

  118. In First Kings 18, it opens during a

  119. drought and God tells Elijah this in

  120. verse one. Came to pass after many days

  121. that the word of the Lord came to Elijah

  122. in the third year saying, "Go present

  123. yourself to Ahab and I will send rain on

  124. the earth."

  125. Now you know when you look at other

  126. passages that there's uh some

  127. connections that are made. Even the New

  128. Testament right that kind of reaches

  129. back into the Old Testament like James 5

  130. and verse 17

  131. talks about Elijah references this very

  132. thing. Elijah was a man with a nature

  133. like ours and he prayed earnestly that

  134. it would not rain and it did not rain on

  135. the land and it gives us a time frame.

  136. The time frame that's given is for three

  137. years and six months. So we have some

  138. additional details as James 5:17 gives

    James 5:17

  139. us as to how long the drought lasted.

  140. For three and a half years, the land

  141. suffered. Think about how you you know

  142. the skies were closed, the streams dried

  143. up, crops failed, food became scarce,

  144. the people felt the weight of judgment.

  145. But the drought was more than a weather

  146. problem, right? It was a spiritual

  147. message that they were receiving. Israel

  148. had turned to Ba, a false god.

  149. Interestingly, this false god is often

  150. associated with rain, crops, and

  151. fertility. Did y'all know that?

  152. So, when the true God shut the heavens,

  153. he was exposing the emptiness of

  154. Israel's idol. Pretty impressive

  155. because here's what every dry field was

  156. preaching.

  157. Every dry field was preaching bell is

  158. not God.

  159. Every empty stream was preaching bell is

  160. not God. And every cloudless sky was

  161. preaching bell is not God. The land was

  162. dry because the hearts of the people

  163. were dry.

  164. But when Ahab sees Elijah, oh, he's got

  165. something to say. Verse 17. Then it

  166. happened when Ahab saw Elijah to Ahab

  167. said to him, "Is that you, oh troubler

  168. of Israel?" I can only imagine. I mean,

  169. I've tried to play that one out in my

  170. head a little bit. You know, it's very

  171. remarkable what he says here. I mean,

  172. Ahab for had forsaken God. Ahab had

  173. promoted idolatry. Ahab had followed

  174. well, remember his wife Jezebel?

  175. remember her and the prophets of Baal to

  176. influence the entire nation. But when

  177. trouble came, who does he blame? Oh,

  178. troubler of Israel. He's blaming the

  179. prophet, the messenger. And I'll just

  180. say, isn't that what the sin that's

  181. that's what often happens is, you know,

  182. here's the drought because of the

  183. sinfulness.

  184. Then

  185. the one who gets blamed is the one who

  186. points it out.

  187. Now Elijah answers clearly in verse 18.

  188. Look at it. I have not troubled Israel,

  189. but you and your father's house have in

  190. that you have forsaken the commandments

  191. of the Lord and have and have followed

  192. the bells. Well, you know, Elijah, you

  193. know, he will not allow Ahab to rename

  194. the problem. I love that, right? Uh

  195. because he's saying, "Look, the

  196. problem's not me. The problem's not the

  197. prophet. The problem's not the message.

  198. The problem is not God's standard. The

  199. problem was that Israel had forsaken the

  200. commandments of the Lord.

  201. That's a needed lesson that still needs

  202. to be echoed in 2026, friends. That's

  203. it. That sometimes people blame the

  204. preacher uh because you know when the

  205. word exposes sin.

  206. I know because I'm a preacher who who

  207. has received that before. Okay. Uh

  208. sometimes people blame the church when

  209. truth makes them uncomfortable.

  210. Sometimes people blame circumstances uh

  211. when their own choices have produced a

  212. spiritual drought.

  213. But renewal

  214. cannot begin until sin is honestly

  215. named. You have to call it what it is.

  216. And if there's dryness in my soul, I

  217. need to ask some very probing questions.

  218. Have I moved away from God?

  219. Have I neglected his word? Have I

  220. followed something that cannot give

  221. life? Have I blamed others for what my

  222. own choices have produced?

  223. That's what the drought in Israel's

  224. doing. When you dig deep into this

  225. passage, the drought of Israel, the

  226. drought in Israel revealed truly more

  227. than dry ground. It revealed dry hearts.

  228. Now the question,

  229. it's a question that we saw at the very

  230. beginning in first kings 18 and verse

  231. 21. And that question revealed a divided

  232. heart. Now again, when you go back to

  233. that question in verse 21, I'll put it

  234. back here on the screen. How long will

  235. you falter? Or how long will you limp

  236. between two opinions?

  237. If the Lord is God, follow him. But if B

  238. follow him, but the people answered him

  239. not a word.

  240. I want to underline that one.

  241. When Elijah makes this and poses this

  242. question

  243. and it says, "But the people answered

  244. him not a word." To me, that silence is

  245. heartbreaking.

  246. Elijah's question, I don't believe we

  247. look at that question and say that's

  248. complicated or or uh confusing.

  249. He simply points it out. And the

  250. question, if the Lord is God, will you

  251. follow him? If Belle is God, follow him.

  252. But stop pretending that you can follow

  253. both.

  254. Is that what he's saying?

  255. Israel's problem was divided loyalty.

  256. They wanted the name of the Lord but the

  257. practices of bail. They wanted the

  258. blessings of God but the pleasures of

  259. compromise. They wanted enough religion

  260. to feel okay to feel secure but enough

  261. idolatry to feel accepted. And you know

  262. really when you look at the New

  263. Testament and you look at what Jesus

  264. even said in Matthew chapter 6 verse 24

    Matthew 6:24

  265. what did Jesus say? No one can serve

  266. what? You can't serve two masters.

  267. For either he will hate the one, love

  268. the other, else he will be loyal to the

  269. one and despise the other. You cannot

  270. serve God in them. You cannot have both.

  271. You can't

  272. because he didn't say Jesus didn't say

  273. not it is difficult to serve two

  274. masters. He didn't say that. He didn't

  275. say, you know, it's unwise to serve two

  276. masters. He says it's impossible to

  277. serve two masters

  278. because a divided heart cannot remain

  279. divided forever. Eventually, it reveals

  280. what it truly loves.

  281. And that is why Elijah's question

  282. still matters even today.

  283. Because let's ask the questions, right?

  284. How long will one limp between worship

  285. and worldliness?

  286. How long will one limp between

  287. conviction and convenience? How long

  288. will one limp between scripture and

  289. self-will?

  290. How long will one limp between Sunday

  291. devotion and weekday compromise? Y'all

  292. see

  293. Joshua

  294. is another one of those great that

  295. stands out to us. Thinking about him

  296. during this lesson. Joshua 24 and verse1

  297. 15.

  298. What did he do? I always think about him

  299. drawing a line in the sand. I I I get

  300. this imagery here.

  301. He says, "And if it seems evil to you to

  302. serve the Lord, choose for yourselves

  303. this day whom you will serve, whether

  304. the gods which your fathers served that

  305. were on the other side of the river or

  306. the gods of the Amorites in whose land

  307. you dwell. But as for me in my house, we

  308. will serve the Lord."

  309. See, this is what Joshua had said

  310. generations earlier.

  311. And what we find in first kings 18 is

  312. Elijah is pressing that same decision,

  313. isn't he? Because faith cannot live

  314. forever in hesitation.

  315. Obedience cannot grow in indecision.

  316. Friends, a soul cannot keep limping

  317. and call it walking with God.

  318. And it's made clear.

  319. And what happens in this passage of

  320. first kings chapter 18?

    1 Kings 18 chapter mention

  321. Well, as you look in First Kings chapter

    1 Kings 18 chapter mention

  322. 18,

  323. we find that the prophets of Baal

  324. revealed the emptiness of idols

  325. because Elijah proposes this great test.

  326. And we have two sacrifices. We have two

  327. altars. The prophets of Bale would call

  328. on Bale. Elijah would call on the Lord.

  329. You know, this is what they're looking

  330. at and and the issue is stated clearly

  331. in in verse 24.

  332. Then you call on the name of your gods

  333. and I will call on the name of the Lord.

  334. And the God who answers by fire, he is

  335. God. So all the people answered and

  336. said, it is well spoken.

  337. The prophets of Bale begin and they cry

  338. out from morning until noon. What do

  339. they say? Oh B, hear us.

  340. But scripture says, "But there was no

  341. voice.

  342. No one answered."

  343. Then they leaped about the altar which

  344. they had made.

  345. They cried. They cried louder.

  346. They began to cut themselves.

  347. They began They became frantic. And

  348. through all of this, nothing happened.

  349. No voice, no answer, no fire.

  350. Now, let me ask you something. Do you

  351. think that their worship was was

  352. passionate?

  353. I mean, I say I think they were pretty

  354. passionate.

  355. Uh,

  356. it was empty.

  357. I I think we can check that one on.

  358. Yeah, I think they were sincere. I think

  359. it was intense.

  360. But it was misplaced.

  361. I believe their emotion was real,

  362. but their God was false.

  363. And that's a sobering reminder that

  364. sincerity cannot make error true.

  365. Sincerity cannot make error true. Not

  366. all worship is acceptable simply because

  367. it's emotional. Not all devotion is

  368. pleasing simply because it's passionate.

  369. Jesus said true worship must be in

  370. spirit and truth. John 4 and verse 24.

  371. Now again the prophets of Bale they were

  372. sincere but they were sincerely wrong.

  373. An idol still work the same way today.

  374. An idol always promises much

  375. demands much and gives nothing eternal.

  376. How do we how do we translate that?

  377. Because that's what they were doing in

  378. the kids classes. They're trying to

  379. translate so they can understand because

  380. you know carved images and those types

  381. of things you know that's a lot of times

  382. where the mind is obviously we think

  383. about this and bail worshippers and

  384. such.

  385. Money can demand your life but it cannot

  386. redeem your soul.

  387. See what we just did there.

  388. Pleasure can demand your purity

  389. but it cannot give you peace.

  390. Popularity can demand your convictions

  391. but it cannot give you salvation.

  392. Success can demand your family

  393. but it cannot give you heaven.

  394. Self can demand the throne but self

  395. makes a miserable God.

  396. Oh Colossians 3 and verse 5. Look what

  397. Paul said to the Colossay, brother.

  398. Colossians 3 and verse 5. Therefore, put

  399. to death your members which are on the

  400. earth, fornication, uncleanness,

  401. passion, evil desire, and covetousness,

  402. which is what? What's that word?

  403. Idolatry.

  404. He speaks of covetous, idolatry. You

  405. know why? Why, Paul? Why you talk? Why

  406. are you talking about that here?

  407. Because idolatry is not merely bowing

  408. down to a statue, friends.

  409. Idolatry is giving ultimate desire,

  410. trust, and devotion

  411. to something other than God.

  412. John in 1 John 5 and verse 21 writes

  413. this, "Little children, keep yourselves

  414. from what? Keep yourself from idols."

  415. Amen.

  416. You see, at the end of the day, every

  417. idol leaves the soul with the same

  418. result as she first kings chapter 18.

    1 Kings 18 chapter mention

  419. What do we just see? No voice, no

  420. answer, no fire.

  421. It's not there.

  422. Now,

  423. something else that we find from our

  424. text of first kings chapter

  425. You look at verse 30 of First Kings

    1 Kings 18 chapter mention

  426. chapter 18. Elijah speaks to the people.

  427. He gives four words right off here when

  428. he said to all the people, "Come near to

  429. me."

  430. When I look at that phrase, I think that

  431. phrase is tender. Uh the prophet who had

  432. rebuked them now invites them to come

  433. near.

  434. What I love about this is is the fact

  435. that, you know, thinking about God, you

  436. God was not merely trying to win an

  437. argument. Okay? Uh he was calling hearts

  438. back. That's what he was doing. That's

  439. what the prophets were sent out to do.

  440. And then scripture says, what's it say?

  441. So all the people came near to him. Look

  442. at the latter part of verse 30. And he

  443. repaired the altar of the Lord that was

  444. what? that was broken down.

  445. Here's the here's a key to this. Before

  446. the fire fell, what had to happen?

  447. The altar

  448. had to be prep repaired.

  449. That is so significant. And and

  450. sometimes we can read through this

  451. passage and and how many times we have

  452. and we we don't even probably

  453. But I think this is significant because

  454. the broken altar,

  455. what what did that show? What do y'all

  456. think that showed?

  457. I'll tell you what. Israel's neglect.

  458. That's what it shows.

  459. They had not merely added bail, friends.

  460. They had abandoned proper devotion to

  461. God. That the altar that should have

  462. represented, I mean, list it. sacrifice,

  463. worship, covenant, fellowship with God

  464. had fallen to ruins.

  465. It was broken down.

  466. And again, that's how spiritual decline

  467. happens.

  468. People do not usually abandon God all at

  469. once.

  470. Often the al

  471. How does that what does that look like?

  472. Prayer becomes rare.

  473. Bible study becomes occasional.

  474. Worship becomes negotiable.

  475. Repentance becomes delayed. The home

  476. loses its spiritual center. The

  477. conscience begins to grow quiet.

  478. Heart becomes crowded. That's what an

  479. altar broken down looks like.

  480. That's how it worked. Little by little,

  481. the altar breaks down.

  482. That's why I always think about Romans

  483. 12 about being a living sacrifice, holy

  484. and son of God, which is your reasonable

  485. service. You ever think about that? The

  486. altar idea of that.

  487. So the way back begins with repairing

  488. what has actually been neglected because

  489. that's what Israel is doing. They had

  490. neglected

  491. the altar.

  492. Now Elijah in this text goes goes on. He

  493. takes 12 stones. We know why he got 12

  494. stones. Okay? 12 stones that reminds

  495. Israel of who they were before God.

  496. Though the kingdom was divided,

  497. they were still accountable to the

  498. covenant God of Abraham, Isaac, and

  499. Jacob. And and Elijah goes on, prepares

  500. the sacrifice and commands water be

  501. poured over it again and again.

  502. The water runs around the altar and and

  503. it says fills the trench. And so what

  504. what Elijah is doing here is is he's

  505. removing every possibility of human

  506. trickery, right? uh if fire falls now it

  507. will be God you know this catches a

  508. flame this is God there is a powerful

  509. lesson here because Elijah did not

  510. manufacture

  511. uh the fire he simply repaired the altar

  512. and he trusted God that's what he did

  513. and really that's what we need the

  514. reminder today is we don't need to

  515. imitate the noise of the world we we

  516. don't need to entertain people into

  517. conviction we don't need to manufure

  518. factor spiritual fire. We don't need

  519. that. Although that's what people are

  520. doing all over. They're manufacturing

  521. all sorts of things. Look what I just do

  522. it. I'm going to repair the altar and

  523. I'm going to do it what God wants.

  524. We need to repair the altar

  525. because in the church that means

  526. returning to reverence, truth, worship,

  527. holiness, and the authority of God's

  528. word and keeping that at the forefront.

  529. in the home. That means putting God back

  530. at the center. If the Bible has stayed

  531. closed, repair the altar. If prayer has

  532. become rare, repair the altar. If

  533. worship has become optional, you know

  534. what the next three words are? Repair

  535. the altar. See,

  536. if worldly priorities are leading the

  537. family, repair the altar.

  538. If worldly priorities, if children hear

  539. more about sports and schedules and work

  540. and entertainment than they hear about

  541. God, repair the altar

  542. because it's breaking down.

  543. Why does it break down? The same exact

  544. way it happened in first kings chapter

    1 Kings 18 chapter mention

  545. 18. Because the is they had neglected

  546. it. And when we neglect this,

  547. the altar breaks down.

  548. Repair the altar.

  549. Our children are learning that we must

  550. not allow people, money, or things to

  551. become more important than God.

  552. That's in their Bible classes. That's

  553. what they're learning.

  554. But I'll tell you this, they will learn

  555. that lesson most deeply when they see it

  556. living it out in us.

  557. They will learn what matters by what we

  558. choose. They will learn what matters by

  559. what we sacrifice for. They will learn

  560. what matters by what we refuse to

  561. compromise.

  562. A repaired altar in the church is good.

  563. A repaired altar in the home is

  564. powerful, friends. A repaired altar in

  565. the heart is where renewal begins.

  566. First Kings chapter 18 is such a

    1 Kings 18 chapter mention

  567. powerful passage.

  568. Let me submit to you this.

  569. The fire revealed the living God, didn't

  570. it? You go to verse 36. Elijah prayed

  571. these words.

  572. And it came to pass at at the time of

  573. the offering of the evening sacrifice

  574. that Elijah the prophet came near and

  575. said, 'Lord God of Abraham, Isaac, and

  576. Israel, let it be known this day that

  577. you are God in Israel, and I am your

  578. servant, and that I have done all these

  579. things at your word.

  580. You know, Elijah's prayer is so simple.

  581. It's God- centered.

  582. Uh Elijah does not pray, "Lord, prove

  583. that I'm right." He doesn't do that. Uh

  584. he prays that the people may know that

  585. the Lord is God and and that their

  586. hearts may be turned back to him. You

  587. see, and and really that should be our

  588. spirit. That's that's the way we should

  589. view this. When we teach truth, when we

  590. correct error, when we preach the

  591. gospel, we warn against sin. The goal is

  592. not some type of personal victory that

  593. we're having, right? The goal is not

  594. winning an argument. The goal is that

  595. hearts may turn back to God. Is that

  596. what Elijah wants? That's what he

  597. desire. He just witnessed some crazy

  598. stuff happen on Mount Carmel, friends.

  599. They are jumping around leaping. They're

  600. cutting themselves.

  601. That became intense.

  602. But when Elijah prayed, God answers. The

  603. one true God answers. In verse 38, it

  604. says, "Then the fire of the Lord fell

  605. and consumed the burnt sacrifice and the

  606. wood and the stones and the dust and it

  607. licked up the water that was in the

  608. trench."

  609. I love it. The fire, the fire did not

  610. barely catch.

  611. It consumed everything.

  612. the sacrifice as the wood, the stones,

  613. stones, the dust, the water.

  614. Bale had no voice. The Lord set fire.

  615. Bale had no answer. The Lord showed his

  616. power. Bale had no life.

  617. The Lord proved he is God.

  618. And when the people saw it, they fell on

  619. their faces and they said in verse 39,

  620. "The Lord, he is God." The Lord, he is

  621. God.

  622. Rewind a moment for me.

  623. You remember in verse 21 when we started

  624. the lesson off when he talked about them

  625. limping or faltering between two

  626. opinions.

  627. They answered him what? Not a word.

  628. However, now in verse 39,

  629. they confess the truth.

  630. But here's the warning.

  631. It is possible to be moved in a moment

  632. and still need to be changed in life.

  633. The goal was not merely that Israel

  634. would say the right words on Mount

  635. Carmel. The goal was that they would

  636. return to actual faithful obedience.

  637. And that is true for us as well. It is

  638. possible to hear a sermon and be moved

  639. but not changed. It's possible to sing

  640. the Lord is God but still live with

  641. idols. It's possible to feel conviction

  642. in worship

  643. then leave the altar broken down at

  644. home.

  645. So the question is not simply would I

  646. have confessed God on Mount Carmel.

  647. Would you have confessed him? We'd all

  648. be yes we would have. Y'all see what

  649. just happened?

  650. That's not the question that's being

  651. asked. The question is will I follow him

  652. tomorrow?

  653. That's the question.

  654. Will I follow him when obedience cost?

  655. Will I follow him when compromise is

  656. easier? Will I follow him when no crowd

  657. is watching?

  658. Will I follow him in my home, my habits,

  659. my priorities, my private life? Will I

  660. really follow him?

  661. Mount Carmel shows us the God who

  662. answers by fire,

  663. but Calvary shows us even more.

  664. Let's bring the lesson to a close and

  665. bring it home with this.

  666. You know, on Mount Carmel,

  667. fire fell upon the sacrifice.

  668. At Calvary, the son of God died for our

  669. sins.

  670. On Mount Carmel, God showed Israel that

  671. he alone is God.

  672. At Calvary,

  673. God showed the world his justice, his

  674. mercy, his holiness, his love.

  675. The God who answered by fire

  676. has now spoken through his only begotten

  677. son, Jesus Christ.

  678. And you see that Hebrews chapter 2

    Hebrews 2 chapter mention

  679. refers to that in verses 3 and 40. in

  680. Hebrews chapter one. So if the Lord he

  681. is God,

  682. what what did what did uh Elijah say?

  683. Follow

  684. him.

  685. So Elijah's question still stands.

  686. How long will one falter or limp

  687. limp between two opinions?

  688. How long will one limp between God and

  689. the world? How long will one excuse

  690. divided loyalty? How long will one delay

  691. repentance? How long will one leave the

  692. altar broken down?

  693. How long will one give God a place in

  694. their lives but not the throne of their

  695. hearts?

  696. The Lord again is not asking to be one

  697. important part of our lives.

  698. He is God and the creator of all.

  699. He deserves more than leftover time. He

  700. deserves more than occasional attention.

  701. He deserves more than Sunday

  702. acknowledgement. He deserves more than

  703. emergency prayers. He deserves more than

  704. a place beside our idols.

  705. He deserves the whole heart.

  706. Joshua said, "Choose for yourselves this

  707. day whom you will serve."

  708. Elijah said, "If the Lord

  709. is God, follow him."

  710. And Jesus said, "No one can serve two

  711. masters."

  712. What I see in each of those statements

  713. made by Joshua, Elijah, and Jesus is

  714. that the message has not changed.

  715. It has not changed.

  716. The Lord, he is God. The Lord, he is

  717. God. Now, let us do more than say it. We

  718. go out and we live it. We live it.

  719. And that's the lesson,

  720. friends. As the sermon was entitled,

  721. no more living.

  722. Choose the God who answers.

  723. If you're not a Christian yet, put on

  724. the body of Christ in baptism. The

  725. living God calls you through the gospel

  726. of his son. You believe that Jesus

  727. Christ is the son of God. Repent of your

  728. sins, confess his name, be baptized,

  729. immerse, buried with him and baptized,

  730. arise, and walk in newness of life. You

  731. can do that this evening. And we invite

  732. you, if you are a child of God, but your

  733. heart has been divided,

  734. repair the altar,

  735. lay down the idol, and you come back to

  736. the Lord. But friends, I submit to you

  737. from this lesson, no more limping. No

  738. more.

  739. Because the Lord, he is God.

  740. Because he is God. We follow him.

  741. If you're sub invitation call whatever

  742. your spiritual need this won't you come

  743. just as I
