  1. Would it be okay if we open our Bibles to Matthew

    Matthew 13 chapter mention

  2. chapter 13? One of Jill and I's dear friends,

  3. Jennifer Smith, sent this passage this morning.

  4. It was comforting to us. As you turn, I'll just

  5. read it. Psalm 112, verse 1 and 2, it says, Praise

    Psalms 112:1

  6. the Lord. Blessed is the one who fears the Lord,

  7. who finds great delight in His commands. Their

  8. children will be mighty in the land, and a generation

  9. of upright will be blessed. So, mothers, just

  10. keep going. We love you. Keep fearing the Lord.

  11. Keep following His commands. The Scripture promises

  12. that your children will be blessed, and that

  13. you're bringing about generations that will delight

  14. in the Lord. amazing job that you're doing. Keep

  15. going. Don't give up. I'm going to join you in

  16. Matthew 13. Alright, I told Jill my Mother's

  17. Day gift to you today will be a short sermon,

  18. so I will keep my word on that. It will be concise

  19. and it will be by the power of the Holy Spirit

  20. we hope. Let's pray. Jesus, as we open the Scriptures

  21. and read Your Word, we're asking now, as many

  22. servants have done over the many years, that

  23. Your Holy Spirit would come and demonstrate great

  24. power through these words to create change in

  25. us that will bear lasting fruit for Your glory.

  26. In Jesus' name. If you agree with that, would

  27. you say amen? Let it be so. Alright. Matthew

    Matthew 13 chapter mention

  28. chapter 13, let's read today verse 45 and 46,

  29. looking at the parables about the kingdom. Verse

  30. 45, Jesus speaking, Again, the kingdom of heaven

  31. is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When

  32. he found one of great value, he went away and

  33. sold everything he had and bought it. Let me

  34. read it one more time. Again, the kingdom of

  35. heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls.

  36. When he found one of great value, he went away

  37. and sold everything he had and bought it. A little

  38. bit of context. Or let's just say a lot of context

  39. in a really brief manner. For 400 years, God

  40. was silent on the earth. The Scripture says that

  41. between the Old and New Testament, there were

  42. no prophets speaking the words of God. There

  43. was a covenant change coming. After 400 years,

  44. Jesus is born to the Virgin Mary. He comes. God

  45. comes in flesh to the earth. He's raised by His

  46. earthly mother and father. As he gets to be an

  47. adult man, God has this plan to release him into

  48. the world. And so Jesus comes. He's baptized

  49. by John, water baptized by John in the Jordan

  50. River. Then the Holy Spirit comes upon him like

  51. a dove and remains, the Gospel of John says.

  52. And the Holy Spirit then leads him into the wilderness

  53. where he's tempted by the devil. you know, thoroughly

  54. smacks the devil around with the Word of God

  55. and his authority. He comes out of that into

  56. public ministry, and he begins to teach this

  57. sermon where God sends him. And he says, repent,

  58. change the way you think, for the kingdom of

  59. God or the kingdom of heaven is now here or is

  60. at hand. And one of the main, I know for some

  61. of you, you're like, Do we have to talk about

  62. this every week? Well, for now the answer is

  63. yes, okay? But one of Jesus' main and major assignments,

  64. he had quite a few, but one of them was to establish

  65. the kingdom of heaven on the earth, model that

  66. for his disciples, and then release that assignment

  67. to the New Testament church. And we see that

  68. throughout the Gospels. part of what Jesus was

  69. doing, specifically on these passages we've been

  70. studying for the last few weeks, is he's teaching

  71. his disciples what the kingdom of heaven is really

  72. like. And so he's asking himself this question,

  73. as we have in Mark and Luke, what can I say about

  74. the kingdom? Or how can I compare the kingdom

  75. of heaven? And then... The Holy Spirit is giving

  76. him divine thoughts and ideas, and he's teaching

  77. these things to the disciples. So if you missed

  78. last week, we talked about the treasure being

  79. buried in the field. Catch up on that with some

  80. really good truths. And today we're looking at

  81. truths about the kingdom of heaven through the

  82. parable of the pearl of great price. So let's

  83. look at some lessons, because Jesus came, he

  84. established the kingdom, taught about the kingdom,

  85. conferred the kingdom on his disciples, released

  86. the Holy Spirit on the New Testament church at

  87. Pentecost, and now our job until the Lord Jesus

  88. returns is to advance the kingdom of heaven on

  89. the earth. And so we are, as a church, we're

  90. in a season of supernatural kingdom expansion.

  91. Jesus said, when people say, here's the kingdom,

  92. they're the kingdom, Luke 17, he said, don't

  93. look here and there. Why? Because the kingdom

  94. is within you, right? So in us is the kingdom

  95. of heaven. Everything we need through the power

  96. and the authority of the Holy Spirit to release

  97. the kingdom of heaven is in us. In John chapter

    John 7 chapter mention

  98. 7, Jesus said, and you'll be like rivers of living

  99. water flowing. And he said, and by that he was

  100. talking about the Holy Spirit whom they were

  101. to receive. So Jesus said, the kingdom is within

  102. you, and now the kingdom should flow out of you

  103. as rivers of living water. So that's the lifestyle

  104. that we have. Living, dwelling in the kingdom,

  105. being confident of the kingdom in us, and releasing

  106. the kingdom in supernatural expansion. Why? Why

  107. should we care about the kingdom of heaven being

  108. released and expanded on the earth? Because God

  109. told us to? Okay. That probably should be enough.

  110. For those of us who need motivation, right? This

  111. is why, right? These are all the initials of

  112. people in our life that are unsaved. We're not

  113. here to release the kingdom to grow a megachurch.

  114. We're here to release the kingdom of heaven on

  115. the earth so that desperate and dying people

  116. can see who the true king is. And if it's a kingdom

  117. of righteousness, peace, and joy that's unshakable

  118. in the Holy Spirit, and they experience that,

  119. they're going to want it. And they're going to

  120. bow their lives before that king just like many

  121. of us did. And they're going to get set free.

  122. And they're going to get healed. And they're

  123. going to get purpose in their life. And then

  124. they're going to go out into their spheres of

  125. influence and release the kingdom. And those

  126. people are going to get saved, set free, healed,

  127. and given purpose. And then they're going to

  128. go out. And that's how revival in the kingdom

  129. works until Jesus comes back. And hopefully there

  130. won't be any names on the cross. Because as we've

  131. been saying, the return of Jesus, thus sitting

  132. in this room, we can't wait. But for these people,

  133. it's going to be a horrible day. It's a horrible

  134. day. And so, we've got a job to do. We're kingdom

  135. people, living in the kingdom, releasing the

  136. kingdom. Right? And so this is why we're talking

  137. about the kingdom of heaven, studying Jesus'

  138. parables and learning lessons. Number one, if

  139. you're writing these down, take notes. This will

  140. be good. Number one, the kingdom of heaven is

  141. a message of ridiculously good news. You and

  142. I are the pearl of great price or great value,

  143. and God paid the highest price to purchase us

  144. back. to himself. The traditional interpretation

  145. of this passage is that it's us seeking the kingdom,

  146. and I think that that's right and good and holy,

  147. and we're going to talk about those lessons.

  148. But there are plenty of theologians, reputable

  149. ones, who see and interpret this passage in a

  150. different way, saying that God is the merchant.

  151. And we are the pearl that he discovered. And

  152. we were of such great value to him that he paid

  153. the highest price to purchase us. And whether

  154. you agree with that interpretation or not, that

  155. message is screamed all throughout the Holy Scriptures

  156. from Old Testament to New Testament. to revelation

  157. listen the whole message from the garden to the

  158. new jerusalem is that god wanted friends he created

  159. us to love him and to be loved by him sin robbed

  160. him of his friends and the whole point of the

  161. gospel message is that he purchased us back he

  162. wants us loves us finds us valuable and did everything

  163. He could and did to have us back. Let's open

  164. our Bibles to Romans 5. You're in Matthew. If

  165. you can turn over to Romans 5. It's just one

  166. of those glorious passages that in a concise

  167. way tells the story of redemption. Romans 5,

    Romans 5:6

  168. verse 6. And I'm just... picking this passage

  169. out for the sake of time, but if you want to

  170. read all of 5, 6, 7, and 8, it's some of the

  171. most powerful chapters in the whole Bible about

  172. redemption and the power of the Holy Spirit in

  173. the life of the believer. Alright, but for the

  174. sake of time, chapter 5, verse 6. You see, at

  175. just the right time, When we were still powerless,

  176. Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will

  177. anyone die for a righteous man, though for a

  178. good man someone might possibly dare to die.

  179. But, in contrast, God demonstrates His own love

  180. for us in this. While we were still sinners,

  181. Christ died for us. And since we have now been

  182. justified, what? By His blood. We've been made

  183. innocent, justified of all of our sins by His

  184. blood. How much more shall we be saved from God's

  185. wrath through Him, Jesus? For if when we were

  186. God's enemies we were reconciled to Him through

  187. the death of His Son, how much more having been

  188. reconciled shall we be saved through His life?

  189. Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God

  190. through our Lord Jesus Christ through whom we

  191. have now received reconciliation. I mean, you

  192. could camp out right there until Jesus comes

  193. back. We were far away. We were enemies. We were

  194. sinners. And He came and rescued us and reconciled

  195. us back to Him. Do you know where you harvest

  196. pearls? It's not Kay's jeweler. That's not where

  197. you harvest pearls. Where do you harvest pearls?

  198. You harvest pearls in the deep water where it's

  199. the darkest, buried in the mud in a gross, slimy

  200. clam. If you dig around in enough of those, you'll

  201. find a pearl. And we, somehow, religion has hoodwinked

  202. us to think that our God cannot lower Himself

  203. to even be around our sin. And I think that there

  204. is a misunderstanding and a false humility that

  205. might even have some good intentions in that.

  206. But the reality is if God could never be sin,

  207. we're all going to hell. If God could never be

  208. close to sin, we're all going to hell. He went

  209. to the depths, in the mud, in the slimy things,

  210. and he found us, the pearl of great value. And

  211. then he said, you are so valuable to me, I will

  212. pay the highest price. I will give my life. What's

  213. the only thing harder than giving your own life?

  214. Would be watching a son bleed out for people

  215. who hated him. Do you know what I'm saying? How

  216. many of you have ever seen your children's blood

  217. outside of their body? It's a horrifying thing.

  218. One of my daughters had to get a fingernail removed

  219. that she slammed in the door this week, and my

  220. wife sent me the bloody picture of when they

  221. took it off. And I'm like, ah! There's something

  222. about seeing your children's blood not in their

  223. body that's horrifying. Try watching every drop.

  224. come out. I want you to know today that you are

  225. the apple of His eye. And not on your best day,

  226. on your worst day. He considered you the pearl

  227. of great value on your nastiest, grossest, filthiest

  228. day. And he said, you're worth every price to

  229. me. And some of you need to hear that. First

  230. of all, some of you need to get saved. Some of

  231. you are hearing this and you're like, man, that

  232. sounds good, but I've never even had my sins

  233. forgiven. All you have to do is call out to him.

  234. Say, forgive me of my sins. Take me into your

  235. family. I want to love you and be loved by you.

  236. Get saved. What are you waiting on? You think

  237. this is a game? Nobody's promised tomorrow. Don't

  238. leave this building without getting saved. I'll

  239. be here after service. I'll be talking to people.

  240. If you need to get saved, you push them all out

  241. of the way and say, I need to get saved. I'd

  242. rather talk to you. Find my wife. Find any of

  243. the pastors, any of the ministers, any of the

  244. ministry team. Say, I need to get saved. Most

  245. of you are saved. But I really felt strongly

  246. in my heart that there are some of you today

  247. that have walked in such compromise. You've been

  248. swayed into such sin and weights of the world.

  249. And you do not feel like a pearl of great value.

  250. And I want you to hear the Gospel message today.

  251. He loves you before you're shiny. He loved you

  252. before you were shiny. Even in your struggles.

  253. Even in your hardship. You're the pearl of great

  254. price to Him. We sang the song, your blood is

  255. enough, but do you believe it? Do you believe

  256. it? Is it enough for you? Is it enough for you

  257. to silence the lies of the enemy that says you'll

  258. never be worth anything? You've compromised too

  259. much. You have no future in God. Who do you think

  260. you are? Is His blood enough for you? It is.

  261. Go to this pause right here. I'm just going to

  262. ask the Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit, would You just

  263. begin to minister? Right now, I'm just asking

  264. humbly, Holy Spirit, for those that are just

  265. struggling with receiving love, with worth, with

  266. receiving forgiveness. Right now, Father, Your

  267. Word says that You pour out Your love into our

  268. hearts by the Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit, come.

  269. Break up those hard places. Silence those lies.

  270. If anyone needs to be saved, Lord, draw their

  271. heart to You right now by Your kindness. Lead

  272. them to repentance. If any Christians just need

  273. to let go and let Your blood be enough, would

  274. You do it right now, Lord? In Jesus' name, Amen.

  275. Alright, number two. Lessons about the Kingdom.

  276. The pursuit of the Kingdom of Heaven on Earth.

  277. must be more than a secondary matter of convenience

  278. a christ follower diligently seeks the kingdom

  279. and requires it as the primary pursuit of their

  280. lives switching directions back to kind of the

  281. traditional view of interpretation of this passage

  282. that we are the merchant seeking after the kingdom

  283. The pursuit of the kingdom of heaven on earth

  284. must be more than a secondary matter of convenience.

  285. A true Christ follower diligently seeks the kingdom

  286. and requires it as the primary pursuit of their

  287. lives. Here in verse 45, it says again, the kingdom

  288. of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine

  289. pearls. The word looking here, I think we have

  290. this up there. In the Greek, zateo. Listen to

  291. this. It means to seek after, to desire, to endeavor,

  292. to require. You see, that's more than a casual

  293. glance. Do you see that? When Jesus says to His

  294. disciples, I want you to seek first the kingdom

  295. of heaven, the kingdom of God and His righteousness.

  296. And everything else, don't worry about everything

  297. else. The pagans worry about those things. If

  298. you'll seek first His kingdom, He'll make sure

  299. you have everything you need. It was a command

  300. as He's teaching His disciples about the priorities

  301. of their life and how to follow Him in kingdom

  302. mandate. And then we see this story in which

  303. the parable of Jesus saying, the kingdom of heaven

  304. is like a merchant. Could we go to that next

  305. one? Merchant. The Greek word emporos, a merchant

  306. as opposed to a retailer or petty tradesman.

  307. This is someone that gets their life. Their whole

  308. life's purpose, right, is to find pearls. Their

  309. whole livelihood depends on it. This is not some

  310. petty retailer. It's not somebody part -time

  311. doing this thing. A merchant is a full -on tradesmen

  312. all right and then the other definition one on

  313. a journey whether by sea or by land especially

  314. for trade so what jesus and and we don't really

  315. have this in our culture But in Jesus' culture,

  316. you had all these trade routes in the biblical

  317. history in which people were coming across the

  318. globe in these trade routes, and they were bringing

  319. these possessions that they're going all over

  320. the world and finding, and they're bringing these

  321. fine possessions for trade. And Jesus is saying,

  322. listen, the kingdom person is like that merchant

  323. that has set their face. Their life is to find

  324. fine pearls. And they're out there, and they're

  325. not just casually glancing around. Hey, I wonder

  326. where I could find a nice pearl today. No, because

  327. their life depends on it. They are seeking. They're

  328. endeavoring. They're desiring. They're even requiring.

  329. I've got to find the pearl of great value. What

  330. am I going to do? How am I going to provide for

  331. my family? How am I going to have any kind of

  332. inheritance? My whole life's purpose is to find

  333. that pearl. And in contrast, Unfortunately, we

  334. have American Christianity that says, I can live

  335. like the world, talk like the world, watch what

  336. the world watches, entertain myself with what

  337. the world entertains myself. Oh, and by the way,

  338. in the name of Christ. And it's just not true.

  339. It's not Christianity. Do you understand that?

  340. That's not Christianity. If you're defining Christianity

  341. the way Jesus defined it in the scripture, that

  342. is not it. He said the kingdom of heaven is like

  343. this. It's like a merchant whose life depends

  344. on finding fine pearls is seeking, endeavoring,

  345. requiring to find it. Where are those people?

  346. You are them. Don't give up and don't go backwards.

  347. The kingdom first lifestyle has to be the primary

  348. direction of our lives. Yes, we got jobs. Yes,

  349. we got families. Yes, we got bills to pay. All

  350. of them are only tools to advance the kingdom

  351. of heaven. And we have to have that perception.

  352. I know we've talked about this a lot. You're

  353. like, my goodness, Jesse, how many times are

  354. we going to talk about this? Repetition is good

  355. for us. It's good to learn. All right. Like I

  356. said, going to be quick. All right. I'm going

  357. to give you the choice. This is crowd participation.

  358. Would you like to hear a quick story about one

  359. of my daughters that was lost in an industrial

  360. park in the Metroplex? Or would you rather hear

  361. a story about how I lost the Army's keys to the

  362. Armory and almost got an Article 15? All right.

  363. Raise your hand for the daughter. Raise your

  364. hand for the keys. All right. I'm going to tell

  365. you the key story then. All right. For a very

  366. brief time, when I was stationed at Fort Hood,

  367. the training NCO moved to a different position.

  368. And some of you will think this is funny. For

  369. a very brief time, I was Corporal Tunnel. They

  370. all thought that was a great joke, Corporal Tunnel.

  371. But for a very brief time, I was a Corporal Tunnel

  372. for about six months before I made sergeant.

  373. During that time, the training NCO left, and

  374. I was appointed by the commander as the training

  375. NCO for our unit. Very brief time, just so they

  376. could find a better replacement than me, which

  377. was highly needed. But as the training NCO, you're

  378. given the keys to the armory, all right? The

  379. armory and... And they give you, back when they

  380. printed out things on paper, do you remember

  381. it had like the printouts with the holes all

  382. down the side with the terrible thing? The terrible,

  383. you could tear it off. Anyway, it was just pages

  384. and pages and pages. And I'm talking millions

  385. and millions of dollars of equipment. And then

  386. a 24 -year -old is signing their name at the

  387. bottom, Corporal Tunnel. Yes, I'm taking charge

  388. of these millions of dollars of equipment. It's

  389. an infantry unit. We got it. I mean, we got Bradley

  390. fighting vehicles. We got saws, 249, Bravo. I

  391. mean, we got all, you get it, a lot. So I had

  392. the keys. Get the weekend off. Go down to hang

  393. out with my family in Brownwood, Texas. It's

  394. on my key chain in the cars. Go out on the swimming

  395. dock because I'm an idiot. And I take off my

  396. hat, my shirt to go swimming. I put my keys in

  397. my hat, lay it on there. go swimming, we're having

  398. a good time with family, get out, go to draw

  399. off, go to put my clothes on, put my shirt on,

  400. take my hat, go like this, and I hear a kaplunk,

  401. all right, and those keys go to the bottom of

  402. Lake Brownwood off the swim dock. And honestly,

  403. it really is an article 15 if you lose honor.

  404. It's not like you can go have another one made.

  405. Do you know what I'm saying? Like, it's an Article

  406. 15, which is reduction in rank, reduction in

  407. pay, and possible jail time. Right? It's kind

  408. of a big deal, especially when you're a corporal,

  409. you know. And so I was like, holy moly. What,

  410. you know, full -on panic mode. Well, a couple

  411. years earlier, I got my scuba diving certification

  412. in Brownwood, actually, because that's where

  413. I went to college. And I knew they had a scuba

  414. diving shop, so I went. and I rented scuba diving

  415. gear. All right, so I put on scuba diving gear.

  416. I go down to the bottom of the lake underneath

  417. the swim dock. Do you know what the visibility

  418. in Lake Brownwood is? About two millimeters.

  419. That's about it. It doesn't matter. Like, you

  420. can't see jack squat. It's brown. That's all

  421. it is. And so I start where I think they fell

  422. off, and just by feel, I'm looking for these

  423. keys. Minute. Five minutes, 10 minutes, 20. First

  424. tank of air, gone. Go back into town, get a second

  425. tank of air. Come back out. I'm trying to make

  426. concentric circles. By the grace of God, I found

  427. the keys to the armory on the bottom of Lake

  428. Brownwood, all right? And I didn't get an article

  429. 15. And actually, you know more than my commander

  430. knows because I never told him either, all right?

  431. No need. No harm, no foul. We found them. But

  432. you talk about someone frantically looking for

  433. something of great value to them. The kingdom

  434. of heaven has to be more than a casual pursuit.

  435. It has to be our life. And people are like, Jesse,

  436. that sounds too serious. Take it up with Jesus.

  437. I don't know what to tell you. I don't know what

  438. to tell you. You don't get to live your life

  439. for yourself anymore. We're bought with a price.

  440. We don't belong to us anymore. We surrendered

  441. all our dreams and visions and plans for our

  442. lives at the foot of that bloody cross. And now

  443. it's... How do I further your kingdom, Jesus?

  444. How do I live for your kingdom? How do I bring

  445. salvation to the lost? How do I bring the power

  446. of the Gospel to people's lives? How do I bring

  447. unshakable righteousness, peace and joy in the

  448. Holy Spirit? And everything else will be added

  449. to you, right? Moms, I want to encourage you.

  450. I want to highly encourage you because the kingdom

  451. of heaven... is right there in those babies.

  452. That is your primary and most beautiful assignment

  453. is the kingdom of heaven being built up and released

  454. in these disciples that live in your homes. One

  455. of my daughters rides with me to church every

  456. Sunday morning. I cherish it. And today I was

  457. just... I was driving and I was thinking about

  458. this whole concept. And honestly, Jill knows

  459. I have the worst memory in the world. But things

  460. that are precious, I can remember. And I was

  461. just thinking about the years because we've been

  462. pastoring this church for 18 years. My daughter's

  463. only 14. And for years, we've been driving this

  464. route to church. And I just started thinking,

  465. man, I can remember when she was tiny and asking

  466. me about questions about things outside the window,

  467. right? And then they get a little older and they

  468. want your phone. And I can remember driving,

  469. watching her over there playing games on the

  470. phone. And then they get their own phone and

  471. you're driving, you're watching them on their

  472. own phone. And today I was just watching her

  473. put on her makeup. young lady, and I'm just thinking,

  474. this is the kingdom. This is the kingdom of heaven.

  475. Right? Moms, dads, you don't have to look very

  476. far to see the kingdom. They sleep in that room

  477. next to yours. It's valuable. It's precious.

  478. You've got to be seeking first that kingdom.

  479. Does that make sense? Alright, let's close with

  480. this one, number three. Before we do, could we

  481. just pause? If you need to repent for a casual

  482. kingdom lifestyle and be like the merchant whose

  483. life depends on finding precious pearls, let's

  484. just respond to that. Lord, help us. Help us

  485. to perceive what is primary and priority. Amen.

  486. Alright, let's close with this. Do not undervalue

  487. the kingdom of God. It's not illogical or irresponsible

  488. to sell everything you have to purchase that

  489. which has exponentially greater value. It is

  490. a wise investment and excellent stewardship.

  491. Can I read that again? Do not undervalue. the

  492. kingdom of heaven or the kingdom of God. It is

  493. not illogical or irresponsible to sell everything

  494. you have to purchase that which has exponentially

  495. greater value. It is a wise investment and excellent

  496. stewardship. So this merchant, he finds a pearl

  497. of great value and then he goes and sells everything

  498. he has to buy that pearl. And you say, Well,

  499. that's crazy. I mean, what guy's going to go

  500. sell everything, everything he has, household,

  501. everything he has, to buy a pearl? Well, if you're

  502. asking that question, you're thinking too small

  503. about the pearl. Right? Because how many of you...

  504. If someone offers you an investment to sell everything

  505. you have which is worth $600 ,000, your net value,

  506. and you get to trade that in to purchase something

  507. worth $2 to $5 or $6 or $10 million, you're not

  508. going to think twice about that investment. You're

  509. like, duh. Right? I have this picture. Can I

  510. show this picture? This is the world's most valuable

  511. pearl. I thought the teenagers would like this

  512. because Gig is such a... fun word right now,

  513. but it is literally called the giga pearl, all

  514. right? And it's valued at 100 million dollars,

  515. okay? It is 75 pounds of pearl discovered by

  516. this fisherman off the coast in the Philippines,

  517. all right? Now, I was just doing the math this

  518. week. I was thinking, Did anybody get their tax

  519. assessment here in the last couple of weeks?

  520. Did anybody else cuss? Okay, just me. All right.

  521. Just kidding, children. I didn't cuss out loud.

  522. Only in my mind, which is not much better. All

  523. right. So I'm just looking at my tax assessment.

  524. It says my house is worth $250 ,000. I'm just

  525. rounding these numbers. It says my land is worth

  526. $100 ,000, so that's $350 ,000. I'm thinking

  527. like... The cars that we have, the gun collection,

  528. the KitchenAid mixer, and the wiener dog, I'm

  529. putting all that together. I'm thinking maybe

  530. another $100 ,000. So I'm thinking, you know,

  531. the tunnel net worth right now, I'm thinking

  532. around $450 ,000, all right? If somebody says

  533. to me, hey, what do you think about selling everything

  534. you have and it'll buy this? You're thinking,

  535. yes, please. I will spend that for the $100 million

  536. pearl. Right? When the world says, what are you

  537. doing? Why are you giving up career in the pursuit

  538. of riches or whatever it may be? Or why are you

  539. giving up this priority? Because we ought to

  540. look different to the world. The Christ follower

  541. should look strange to the world we live in.

  542. Yes? We should look different. They should look

  543. at us and go, why do you live that way? Why are

  544. those your priorities? When the world looks at

  545. us and says, it is crazy that you're trading

  546. in the things of the world for faith to a God

  547. you can't see, they just don't understand how

  548. priceless the pearl is. And sadly, most Christians

  549. don't either. That's why we haven't sold everything

  550. for the kingdom. Now when I talk about sell everything,

  551. please don't go give away your house today unless

  552. God tells you to. Don't go give away your property.

  553. Don't quit your job. That's not what I'm talking

  554. about. God has no problem with wealth and careers

  555. and fantastic things. They're just all second

  556. in priority to the kingdom. They're all intended

  557. as tools for the glory of the king on the earth.

  558. But if your life is still about you and your

  559. kingdom, I'm telling you, it's only because you

  560. have not seen the... unspeakable value of His

  561. kingdom. Because it would only make logical sense

  562. for us to put everything on the back burner for

  563. the kingdom of heaven. Does that make sense?

  564. Does anybody know who Jim Elliot is? He's an

  565. American missionary, was martyred for the gospel

  566. in Ecuador in like the 1950s. He says a quote

  567. that a lot of people know, but maybe you don't

  568. know the context he later gave his life. He is

  569. no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain

  570. what he cannot lose. And there's a kingdom concept

  571. that says, My King is so glorious and His reign

  572. is so important to the salvation of the world

  573. that I will give up every right to myself and

  574. to this world if I can have that kingdom. If

  575. I can be a part of that kingdom. If I can give

  576. that kingdom to one other desperate, needy person.

  577. What's interesting about the giga pearl, you've

  578. got to go research this story. It's fantastic.

  579. The guy was fishing. That guy was fishing in

  580. a storm, and his anchor got caught on something,

  581. and it was putting his boat in peril during the

  582. storm. So he dove down to the bottom of his anchor.

  583. and he found his anchor on this huge clam. And

  584. in those areas, they say clams get 100, 125 pounds,

  585. these mussels. And his anchor in the storm is

  586. stuck on this pearl. You can't make this stuff

  587. up. How many of you know that the pearl of the

  588. kingdom is often found when you're anchored in

  589. a storm? It is so true. It's the storms. It's

  590. when everything is going crazy. that that's where

  591. you find yourself anchored on what is truly important.

  592. So this fisherman finds the pearl in that muscle,

  593. and he doesn't know what it is. And for 10 years,

  594. he keeps it in a burlap sack underneath his bed.

  595. And in his mind, he's thinking it's a good luck

  596. charm. So every morning, he rubs the pearl on

  597. his way out for his fishing trip for good luck

  598. on the fishing day. Ten years. He's possessing

  599. a hundred million dollar pearl in a shack in

  600. the Philippines under his bed. Is that you? Is

  601. that you? Do you have the greatest collecting

  602. dust under your bed spiritually? Is it your good

  603. luck charm? Or is it the kingdom of heaven on

  604. the earth? Being advanced. Violent men take hold

  605. of it, it says. It's violently advanced on the

  606. earth with intentionality, with purpose. You

  607. know how they found out about this pearl? Fire.

  608. The guy's house caught on fire. And the pearl

  609. was revealed. And someone in his family, I was

  610. reading that some of his family was a tourism

  611. director and they put it on display in that little

  612. village and then it became known to the world.

  613. Isn't it amazing that the pearl of greatest price

  614. in the world was revealed to the world by fire?

  615. I can't make this up. Fire. Fire of hardship

  616. and purity. fire of the Holy Spirit, and one's

  617. coming greater than me that will baptize you

  618. with the Holy Spirit and with fire. Fire will

  619. reveal the priceless kingdom of God to the world.

  620. Both the hardships we walk through and the fire

  621. and passion of the Holy Spirit in us, on us,

  622. and through us. Yes? Alright. Well, I mean seven

  623. minutes early. That's early. Could we stand and

  624. be released? Anybody want to be that merchant

  625. that has found it and now everything is second

  626. place to the kingdom? Do you want to be that

  627. person? Anybody want to take the kingdom of heaven

  628. out from underneath the bed? And let fire reveal

  629. it to the world. They want to see it. They don't

  630. even know how bad they want it. They need it

  631. so bad. So Father, here are your sons and daughters.

  632. We were the pearl of great price that you bought.

  633. And we say thank you. And now you are our pearl

  634. of greatest price. You and your kingdom. And

  635. we say, God, take us. Rewire our brains to think

  636. about Your kingdom first everywhere You send

  637. us. And God, we're asking right now for fire.

  638. Fire through the Holy Spirit. The fire of faithfulness

  639. through difficulty and hardship. Purify us, God.

  640. And set us on fire so that this world can know

  641. You as their King and experience the beauty of

  642. Your kingdom. Do anything You want with us. We

  643. are a coin in Your pocket. Spend us any way You

  644. want. And bless our mothers. In Jesus' name,

  645. Amen.
