  1. Amen. Please take your Bibles and open

  2. them up to Job chapter 15. Please take

    Job 15 chapter mention

  3. your Bibles

  4. and open them up to Job

    Job 15 chapter mention

  5. chapter 15.

  6. And in the book of Job, in the center of

  7. the book of Job, we've been looking at

  8. these conversations

  9. between Job and his friends as they've

  10. been trying to understand Job's

  11. suffering. This back and forth

  12. conversations that he's been having with

  13. his friends, trying to understand his

  14. suffering. And we heard last week

  15. conversation number one between Job and

  16. his friends. And that was from chapter 4

  17. to chapter 14. And this morning we're

  18. going to look at conversation number

  19. two. Chapter 15- 21. And next week we'll

  20. look at conversation

  21. number three. Chapter 22- 27. All of

  22. these three conversations between Job

  23. and his friends trying to understand

  24. Job's suffering.

  25. Let's pray as we begin.

  26. Lord, this is a special time that we

  27. have this morning.

  28. There is no other day in the week when

  29. all of us gather together to sing to

  30. you. It is a special time. There is no

  31. other day in the week where we all sit

  32. together and we hear someone pray to you

  33. on behalf of us. It is a special day.

  34. And Lord, there is no other day in the

  35. week where we hear this kind of

  36. preaching through your word. Let us

  37. realize that this is a special moment

  38. from you.

  39. Speak to us, God.

  40. We we waste our time so much on so many

  41. things in this world. We spend hours

  42. watching things and hours doing our own

  43. stuff and pleasing ourselves.

  44. But Lord, this morning I pray for this

  45. special moment that it would be about

  46. you

  47. and that you would speak to us in and

  48. through your word and that we as your

  49. servants that we would be listening.

  50. So Lord speak we pray. We need to hear

  51. your voice.

  52. We pray all these things in Jesus

  53. precious and wonderful name.

  54. Amen. Amen.

  55. Job in this conversation at one point in

  56. this conversation,

  57. Job, he asks the question in Job 17

    Job 17:15

  58. verse 15, he asked the question, where

  59. then is my hope?

  60. That's the big question he asks in this

  61. conversation.

  62. Where is my hope?

  63. And that is a good question to ask. And

  64. hope it is a hard word to understand.

  65. It's hard to know what to do with the

  66. word hope. It's something that all of us

  67. want, but it is very hard to grasp this

  68. idea of hope.

  69. If you were driving into passage this

  70. morning, I think on either side, you

  71. should have seen this this yellow big

  72. yellow sign. And on the yellow sign, it

  73. would have said, "Walk of hope."

  74. That's what people in this world want.

  75. They want hope. And that specific walk,

  76. they're trying to raise awareness and

  77. support for those people who have been

  78. affected by suicide. And they're trying

  79. to say to people in this world, there is

  80. hope.

  81. Hope is this expectation that in the

  82. future something good is going to

  83. happen.

  84. Something good is going to take place.

  85. And Job right now throughout these

  86. conversations, his main question is this

  87. to his friends, where is my hope?

  88. Where can I find hope? because I have

  89. lost everything.

  90. So where is it?

  91. And if you were talking to Job and Job

  92. asked you the question, where can I find

  93. some hope in my life?

  94. You might give him two suggestions.

  95. That's what I want to look at this

  96. morning. Those two suggestions. The

  97. first suggestion is this that you might

  98. give him, Job. You might find hope in

  99. your suffering through your friends.

  100. Job, go to your friends.

  101. Problem is, Job's friends aren't too

  102. good, are they?

  103. But that's what you might suggest to

  104. someone who's who's looking for some

  105. hope, who's looking for some relief in

  106. life. You might say to them, firstly, go

  107. to your friends.

  108. And so, if Job is going to go to his

  109. friends, here's the problem with Job's

  110. friends. As we looked at last week,

  111. Job's friends have bad theology.

  112. And their bad theology is this.

  113. Good things happen to good people

  114. always.

  115. And bad things happen to bad people

  116. always.

  117. That's their theology. Good things

  118. always happen to good people and bad

  119. things always happen to bad people.

  120. Therefore, what's the conclusion that

  121. the friends make about Job? Job, bad

  122. things are happening into in your life.

  123. Therefore, what does that mean according

  124. to their theology, Job, you're a bad

  125. person.

  126. That's bad theology.

  127. And his friends continue along this

  128. line. And so, as you look at what his

  129. friends are saying, and you might

  130. suggest to Job, Job, find some hope in

  131. your friends.

  132. And the reason why Job can't find hope

  133. in his friends is this. His friends are

  134. constantly pointing out the problem of

  135. his words and the problem of his

  136. wickedness.

  137. This is the reason he can't find hope in

  138. in them is because they're constantly

  139. pointing out the problem of his words

  140. and the problem of his wickedness.

  141. Look at chapter 15.

  142. He first goes to the friend Elephas in

  143. this conversation. And Elephaz is going

  144. to point out firstly the problem of

  145. Job's words. Look at chapter 15:1. Then

  146. Elephaz the Tim Knight answered and

  147. said, "Should a wise man answer with

  148. windy knowledge or fill his belly with

  149. the east wind? Should he argue in

  150. unprofitable talk or in words with which

  151. he can do no good. But you are doing

  152. away with the fear of God and hithering

  153. meditation before God. For your iniquity

  154. teaches your mouth,

  155. and you choose the tongue of the crafty.

  156. Your own mouth condemns you, not I. Your

  157. own lips testify against you. So Job, he

  158. might look to his friends for some hope.

  159. Will you give me friends, I've lost

  160. everything. Can you give me some hope?

  161. Can you give me some comfort? And the

  162. friends say, "No, your words are bad."

  163. Notice how he's focusing on the words.

  164. In verse two, he says, "Windy knowledge.

  165. Your words are just wind. You're blowing

  166. smoke." Again, in verse three, he uses

  167. the word talk and words. In verse five,

  168. he says mouth and tongue. In verse six,

  169. he says mouth and lips.

  170. Job, your words are all over the place.

  171. There's no hope for you

  172. because of your words. And there's also

  173. no hope for Job according to the friends

  174. because of his wickedness.

  175. And we see Elephas talk about his

  176. wickedness. He talks about his

  177. wickedness from verse 20 all the way

  178. down to verse 35. But I just want to

  179. highlight a few verses to you. First

  180. verse 20, Elephaz talks about the wicked

  181. man. And he says this, "The wicked man

  182. rides in pain all his days through all

  183. the years that are laid up for the

  184. ruthless." What is Elephaz saying to

  185. Job? Job, the reason you have pain, the

  186. reason you are writhing in pain is

  187. because of your wickedness. This is what

  188. happens to the wicked man. He also talks

  189. about the wicked man in verse 24.

  190. Distress and anguish terrify him. They

  191. prevail against him like a king ready

  192. for battle because he has stretched out

  193. his hand against God and defies the

  194. Almighty.

  195. Job, the reason you are distressing Job,

  196. the reason you are in anguish, the

  197. reason for all these things is, Job,

  198. surely you've stretched out your hand

  199. against God. Bad things only happen to

  200. bad people. That's you, Job. This is

  201. their theology. And then you go to the

  202. second friend, turn to the second

  203. friend, Bildad.

  204. In chapter 18, we hear about Billad. And

  205. Billad

  206. says to Job, "There's no hope for you,

  207. Job. Why? Because of your words and

  208. because of your wickedness."

  209. Bildad says in chapter 18:1, "Then

  210. Bildad the Shuite answered and said,

  211. "How long will you hunt for words?

  212. Consider and then we will speak. Why are

  213. we counted as cattle? Why are we stupid

  214. in your sight?

  215. Job, the problem is your words. There's

  216. no hope for you. You just keep hunting

  217. for words and you cannot find them.

  218. So the first problem he points out is

  219. his word. And the second problem again

  220. is his wickedness.

  221. Look at verse five.

  222. Indeed, the light of the wicked is put

  223. out, and the flame of his fire does not

  224. shine. The light is dark in his tent,

  225. and his lamp above him is put out.

  226. Darkness only happens to wicked people.

  227. Do you remember Job's lament in chapter

  228. 3? What did he say? All I see is

  229. darkness.

  230. and build that is saying the only reason

  231. you see darkness is because of your

  232. darkness.

  233. You're wicked.

  234. He carries on and he says these most

  235. probably the most cruel words you will

  236. see in the book of Job to his friend.

  237. He speaks of the man of wickedness. He

  238. continues all the way down from verse 5

  239. to verse 21

  240. talking about the man of wickedness. But

  241. in verse 18, he says some of the most

  242. cruel words. He says this about the

  243. wicked man. He is thrust from the light

  244. into the darkness. Again, that theme.

  245. And driven out of the world. He has no

  246. posterity or progeny among his people

  247. and no survivor where he used to live.

  248. What are these wicked words that Billad

  249. is saying of Job?

  250. Let me read to you the NLT version of

  251. these verses and you will really hear

  252. what he's saying.

  253. Job 18 verse 18 buildout says this to

    Job 18:18

  254. Job. You will be thrown

  255. from light into darkness. You will be

  256. driven from the world.

  257. They will have neither children nor

  258. grandchildren, nor any survivor in the

  259. place where they lived. The wicked man

  260. will have no children, no grandchildren

  261. and no survivor. Do you hear what he's

  262. saying, Job? The reason you lost your

  263. children,

  264. the reason there's no survivor in your

  265. family,

  266. you're the wicked man.

  267. This is why he can find no hope in his

  268. friends. And then we come to the last

  269. friend. The last friend speaks and it's

  270. Zofar.

  271. And Zofar speaks. And this time Zofar he

  272. he doesn't point out Job's words.

  273. Zofar points out his own thoughts.

  274. Zofar doesn't seem to have time to talk

  275. about Job's words. He has time to only

  276. talk about his thoughts. And Zofar in

  277. chapter 20:1 it says this. Then Zofar

  278. the Neamothite answered and said,

  279. "Therefore my thoughts

  280. answer me because of my haste within

  281. me." Zofar says, "I don't even want to

  282. bother talking about your words. Just

  283. listen to my thoughts and I'm just going

  284. to tell you all about your wickedness."

  285. Zofar is the kind of guy he just cuts to

  286. the chase. He's absolutely impatient

  287. with Job. His speeches are the shortest

  288. speeches of all the friends. And he's

  289. like, "You know what? I'm sick of even

  290. talking about his words. I'm just going

  291. to give him my thoughts and I'm going to

  292. tell him about his wi wickedness." And

  293. everybody's reading this saying, "So

  294. far, nobody wants to hear your thoughts.

  295. Nobody cares about what you have to

  296. think." And yet he's going to say it

  297. anyway. And what does he point to? He

  298. points again to Job's wickedness. Verse

  299. four.

  300. Do you not know this from of old since

  301. man was placed on the earth that the

  302. exalting of the wicked is short and the

  303. joy of the godless but for a moment?

  304. He begins by saying those words and he

  305. ends by saying these words in verse 29.

  306. This is the wicked man's portion from

  307. God, the heritage decreed for him by

  308. God.

  309. We might give the advice to Job. Job, if

  310. you want to find hope, Job, go to your

  311. friends.

  312. And unfortunately, when he goes to his

  313. friends,

  314. all they point out

  315. is his words and his wickedness. There

  316. is no hope.

  317. And so Job replies

  318. with his own words

  319. and tries to correct their theology

  320. about wickedness.

  321. In chapter 21, Job answered.

  322. Then Job answered and said, "Keep

  323. listening to my words

  324. and let this be your comfort.

  325. Bear with me

  326. and I will speak. And after I have

  327. spoken, mock on."

  328. So even though they tell Job, "Your

  329. words are all over the place." What does

  330. Job say? Do you know what I want you to

  331. do again? Listen to my words and let my

  332. words be your comfort. And he seeks to

  333. correct their theology about the wicked.

  334. Their theology about the wicked is this.

  335. Bad things always happen to bad people.

  336. And Job has a response to this bad

  337. theology. And he responds to this bad

  338. theology with two questions about the

  339. wicked. The first question he asks about

  340. the wicked is in verse 7.

  341. Why do the wicked live and reach old age

  342. and grow mighty in power? If bad things

  343. always happen to bad people,

  344. then why do the wicked

  345. why do they get old?

  346. Why do they grow in power?

  347. Why do they get rich?

  348. Because when I look at wicked people and

  349. bad people in this world, Job says good

  350. things still happen to them.

  351. So your theology doesn't seem to work.

  352. And then he asks the second question in

  353. verse 17.

  354. How often is it that the lamp of the

  355. wicked is put out? That their calamity

  356. comes upon them, that God distributes

  357. pains in his anger.

  358. How often does trouble happen to the

  359. wicked really in this world? Job asks,

  360. "Do they always experience pain? Do they

  361. always experience trouble?"

  362. And the answer is, of course, no,

  363. they don't.

  364. So,

  365. where is their hope?

  366. Job asked the question in Job 17:15,

    Job 17:15

  367. "Where is my hope?"

  368. And they say, "Job, you don't have any

  369. hope because you're wicked." And then

  370. Job is answering back, "Well, I don't

  371. think I'm wicked because good things

  372. actually happen to wicked people and bad

  373. things are happening to me.

  374. So where is the hope?"

  375. I believe

  376. that a correct theology

  377. of what happens to the wicked can truly

  378. give us hope.

  379. And what is a correct theology of what

  380. happens to the wicked?

  381. Because sometimes as you look at this

  382. world,

  383. bad things will happen to bad people.

  384. And sometimes as you look at this world,

  385. good things will happen to bad people.

  386. So what is our theology about what

  387. happens to the wicked in the end? Our

  388. theology is this

  389. >> that one day there will be ultimate

  390. justice.

  391. One day Jesus Christ, he will come back

  392. and he will judge the living and the

  393. dead.

  394. One day

  395. all those evil people in this world,

  396. whether bad happens to them in this

  397. world or whether good happens into them

  398. in this world, when Jesus comes back

  399. again, the judge of all the earth will

  400. do what is right.

  401. And that good theology gives us hope

  402. that one day he's going to sort it all

  403. out.

  404. You look at the news and this world is

  405. so frustrated and trying to find justice

  406. for wicked people. You hear all the news

  407. reports about about Jeffrey Epstein and

  408. everybody's scrambling for justice

  409. and the guy dies in prison and they're

  410. still they're still scrambling for

  411. justice. Still trying to go through the

  412. files, scrambling for justice in this

  413. world.

  414. What happens if they don't find justice

  415. in the world? Here's what's going to

  416. happen. Jesus is coming back again

  417. and he will bring about justice. And

  418. those who have committed horrible crimes

  419. will be punished finally and fully.

  420. That gives us hope. A correct theology

  421. of what happens to the wicked gives us

  422. hope. But also there is this other

  423. aspect to the correct theology of what

  424. can happen to the wicked.

  425. It is possible in the gospel

  426. that a thief can live his whole life

  427. turned away from Christ

  428. and yet on the cross

  429. repent

  430. and Jesus will say to that once wicked

  431. man today you will be with me in

  432. paradise.

  433. That's a good theology of the wicked.

  434. That even the most wicked, the most vile

  435. person in this world can repent,

  436. believe, and be saved.

  437. Everybody who was looking at Paul's

  438. life,

  439. everybody who was looking at Paul the

  440. persecutor, they would have said, "This

  441. man is wicked beyond all hope. He has no

  442. hope in this world."

  443. And yet Jesus came into his life and

  444. saved that wicked man.

  445. Paul said, "I am the worst of sinners."

  446. But praise be to God who saved me.

  447. So a correct theology of the wicked

  448. helps us have hope. It helps us have

  449. hope that one day justice is truly

  450. coming. And it helps us have hope that

  451. repentance is truly possible even for

  452. the most wicked of people.

  453. So we're counseling Job and we're saying

  454. to Job, Job, you can find hope in your

  455. friends. And Job says, "No, I can't find

  456. hope in my friends because all my

  457. friends are saying to me is about my

  458. words and my wickedness." So then you

  459. say, Job, well, I've got the I've got

  460. the answer. I've got the Christian

  461. answer for your hope. And maybe it's not

  462. your friends, but here's the Christian

  463. answer for your hope. The hope you are

  464. really searching for, Job. Go to God for

  465. your hope. And there in God, Job, you

  466. will find hope.

  467. But the shocking answer that Job gives

  468. to that is no.

  469. Turn back and we'll look at this theme.

  470. and turn back to Job 14:9.

    Job 14:9

  471. Job 14:E 19.

  472. And in these conversations, you will see

  473. that Job not only speaks against his

  474. friends,

  475. but that he speaks against God.

  476. And so, if you say to Job, Job, I have

  477. the place where you can find your hope.

  478. You can find your hope in God. And you,

  479. every Christian thinks, well, God's the

  480. answer, of course. Like, he knew that

  481. since Sunday school, right? What's the

  482. answer? Jesus. It's all, it's always

  483. God.

  484. We give Job that answer. And what does

  485. he say?

  486. Speaking to God, Job in chapter 14 verse

  487. 19, listen to what he says.

  488. The waters way wear away the stones. The

  489. torrent wash away the soil of the earth.

  490. So you destroy the hope of man.

  491. Job is speaking to God

  492. and he's saying to God,

  493. you destroy the hope of man.

  494. So his question, where am I going to

  495. find hope?

  496. picks up a notch here when he says to

  497. God, "You destroy the hope of man."

  498. And again, we see this in his response

  499. to Elephaz in in chapter 16.

  500. He speaks about how God cannot be his

  501. hope. He starts his speech in chapter

  502. 16:1 speaking to his friends and about

  503. his friends. He says this to them.

  504. Chapter 16:1 Job answered and said, I

  505. have heard much. I've heard many such

  506. things. Miserable comforters are you

  507. all. So his friends are calling him

  508. wicked. And he speaks against them and

  509. he says, "You're miserable comforters."

  510. And you would think for the rest of his

  511. speech, what Job is going to do is speak

  512. against his friends. But he doesn't do

  513. that.

  514. What does Job do? He chooses to speak

  515. against God.

  516. Look at what he says about God in verse

  517. 7. And I want you to notice what he says

  518. about all that God has done. All that he

  519. has done. Listen. Verse 7. Surely now

  520. God has worn me out.

  521. He has made desolate all my company. And

  522. he has shriveled me up, which is a

  523. witness against me. And my leanness has

  524. risen up against me. It testifies to my

  525. face. He has torn me in his wrath and

  526. hated me. He has nashed his teeth at me.

  527. My adversary sharpens his eyes against

  528. me.

  529. Do you see what Job is doing? You say to

  530. Job, "You can find hope in God, Job."

  531. And then Job answers you back and says,

  532. "No, no, no. He has worn me out.

  533. He has made me desolate. He has torn me

  534. up in his wrath and he has nashed his

  535. teeth against me.

  536. There's no hope in God."

  537. And then we see, turn to chapter 19.

  538. And in chapter 19, what you will see is

  539. Job's response to Bildad.

  540. And in Job's response to Bildad, he

  541. begins by talking against his friends.

  542. In chapter 19:1, it says this, "Then Job

  543. answered and said, "How long will you

  544. torment me and break me in pieces with

  545. words?" So Job begins fighting back

  546. against his friends. And you would think

  547. that in the speech he would spend the

  548. whole time speaking against his friends,

  549. but he doesn't. He starts to speak

  550. against God.

  551. And he does this in verse 8. And notice

  552. in verse eight what he says all about

  553. what God has done. Verse eight, he has

  554. walled up my way so that I cannot pass.

  555. And he has set darkness upon my paths.

  556. He has stripped me from my glory and and

  557. taken the crown from my head. He breaks

  558. me down on every side and I am gone.

  559. Listen to this.

  560. And my hope

  561. has he pulled up like a tree.

  562. There's no hope in God according to Job

  563. in these verses. He has walled me up. He

  564. has set me in darkness. He has stripped

  565. my glory away. He has broken me down and

  566. he has taken my hope and he's pulled it

  567. up like a tree.

  568. According to these words,

  569. Job is saying there's no hope in God.

  570. So now what do you do as a friend?

  571. You've come to Job and you said Job find

  572. hope in your friends. And he says,

  573. "Nope. They all think I'm wickedness."

  574. You say, "Well, Job, you can't argue

  575. with this. Job, find hope in God." And

  576. he says, "Nope. He's taken everything

  577. away from me. He's He's torn out MY

  578. HOPE. HE'S GOT RID OF MY CHILDREN AND MY

  579. HOME AND MY SERVANTS, AND everything's

  580. been taken away. You're telling me to

  581. hope in God?"

  582. So, where's the answer?

  583. If it's not friends, if it's not God,

  584. where's hope?

  585. Hope lies in this for Job.

  586. The simple word. It is the word

  587. contradiction.

  588. Contradiction.

  589. And here's what I mean by that.

  590. Every person on this planet, people in

  591. general, do you know what we are? We are

  592. a contradiction.

  593. And what I mean by that is this. We'll

  594. say stuff like this.

  595. I don't care about what people think.

  596. You know what? I I'm just one of those

  597. type of people where I don't care about

  598. what people think.

  599. And then you really do care about what

  600. they think by what you wear and how you

  601. speak,

  602. what car you drive, what job you have.

  603. Sometimes we'll say we don't care what

  604. people think, but we really do care what

  605. people think. So what are we? We our

  606. contradiction.

  607. Sometimes we'll say stuff like this. You

  608. know, I really I I just don't have time

  609. to pray. I don't have time to be in

  610. God's word and and pray. I don't have I

  611. don't have any time for that.

  612. Well, we'll spend two hours watching a

  613. film.

  614. It's all of us. We're a contradiction.

  615. Or we'll say stuff like, you know, I

  616. need sleep.

  617. I'm tired. I'm just I'm just tired in

  618. life. But then we'll spend hours at

  619. night scrolling,

  620. wondering why we don't sleep. We're a

  621. contradiction. That's who we are.

  622. That's exactly what Job is in this

  623. moment. He's a contradiction.

  624. On the one hand, he will stay say stuff

  625. like this. Just listen for a second. On

  626. the one hand, he will say in Job 14:19

    Job 14:19

  627. to God, you destroy the hope of man. But

  628. on the other hand, he will say stuff

  629. like this in Job 13:15,

    Job 13:15

  630. "Though you slay me,

  631. yet I will hope in you.

  632. though you kill me and destroy me,

  633. I'm going to hope in you. So on the one

  634. hand he's saying you destroy my hope and

  635. on the other hand he's saying I'm hoping

  636. in you. What's the answer to that? JOB

  637. IS EXACTLY LIKE ALL OF US. HE'S A big

  638. old contradiction.

  639. It's the same thing that happens in all

  640. of our suffering.

  641. There's times when we praise God and

  642. there's times when we don't understand.

  643. It's a contradiction.

  644. That's our life. That's what makes the

  645. book of Job, you know, you know the book

  646. of Job, it's actually quite a difficult

  647. book. It's difficult because it has most

  648. of the the most difficult Hebrew you

  649. will ever see in the book. It is also

  650. difficult because it is a very poetic

  651. book. You're kind of wondering what's

  652. going on. What are they saying back and

  653. forth? It's also difficult because it's

  654. full of these contradictions. The

  655. friends, they say good things about God

  656. and yet they have ter terrible theology.

  657. And Job, he's saying, "I don't hope in

  658. God. He destroys everything." And yet,

  659. he's also saying, "I do place my hope in

  660. God." So, what is the answer? He's a

  661. contradiction.

  662. If you are going to be a good friend

  663. to anybody that is suffering in life,

  664. here is what I would suggest to you.

  665. Allow space

  666. for contradiction.

  667. allow them

  668. to say and doubt, I'm not sure about God

  669. right now. And don't just jump in with

  670. the answer. You know, actually, uh, John

    John 1:14

  671. 1:14 says this, not quite helpful at the

  672. time. Let them have times of

  673. contradiction

  674. and then speak truth into their lives.

  675. This is what h is happening with Job's

  676. friends. They're not letting him any

  677. time for anything, any contradiction.

  678. They're just trying to whip him with

  679. theology.

  680. We have to give people space

  681. for contradiction.

  682. Wouldn't you want people to give you

  683. that space?

  684. Aren't there times where you just

  685. believe in God and nothing else?

  686. And there's also times where you doubt.

  687. It's contradiction.

  688. give people that space,

  689. show them the kindness of Christ,

  690. and point them to hope in Jesus.

  691. And so what we see throughout these

  692. verses, even though Job is is quick to

  693. say that all that God has done against

  694. him,

  695. there are these glimmers of hope.

  696. And the one glimmer of hope I want to

  697. point you to, and there's loads, and

  698. I've tried to discipline myself because

  699. I want to read all these verses.

  700. But let me show you the greatest verses

  701. of hope that I believe is in the book of

  702. Job. And the greatest verses of hope

  703. that are in the book of Job is in Job

    Job 19 chapter mention

  704. chapter 19. In the same chapter where

  705. Job has said, "You have pulled up my

  706. hope like a tree,

  707. Job also says these words of hope in his

  708. contradiction." Verse 23.

  709. Job chapter 19 verse 23.

    Job 19:23

  710. Oh that my words were written.

  711. Oh that they were inscribed in a book.

  712. Oh, that with an iron pen and lead they

  713. were engraven in the rock forever. For I

  714. know that my redeemer lives

  715. and at the last he will stand upon the

  716. earth and after my skin has been thus

  717. destroyed, yet in my flesh I shall see

  718. God.

  719. And there in lies Job's true real hope.

  720. Job comes to the place where he says,

  721. "My redeemer lives."

  722. And that's the hope for us. That our

  723. redeemer lives.

  724. That in through our suffering, our

  725. redeemer, he lives. And there is hope

  726. not just in this life, but there is hope

  727. in eternal life. And as you read these

  728. words of Job, what you want to do is

  729. with Job is just just grab him and say,

  730. "Job, all of your hope is realized. All

  731. of your hope, all that you were hoping

  732. for has come true." Look at verse 23. Do

  733. you know he says the word O three times.

  734. When you write the word O three times,

  735. you really mean it. Like who says oh

  736. that many times?

  737. And look at what he says. Oh, that my

  738. words were written. Oh, that they were

  739. inscribed in a book. And you wish you

  740. could just take Job and say, "YES, JOB,

  741. THEY ARE WRITTEN. YES, JOB, they are in

  742. a book." AND GUESS WHAT? THAT WORD LASTS

  743. FOREVER.

  744. That's your hope. And you wish you could

  745. just grab him and say, "We have all the

  746. perspective. We know the end of the

  747. story. We know what's going to happen.

  748. Your words are going to be written down.

  749. And people are going to remember that

  750. you Job were indeed blameless.

  751. And then when Job says in verse 25, I

  752. know that my redeemer lives,

  753. Job says that. And he doesn't know the

  754. full story. He doesn't know the full

  755. picture. He doesn't know the reality of

  756. what he is truly saying. And you wish

  757. you could just pick Job up on this side

  758. of the cross and say, "Job, you're

  759. exactly right. Our redeemer lives. There

  760. is our redeemer, Jesus, God's own son.

  761. You're right. Your hope is fulfilled.

  762. Who do you hope to see in heaven?

  763. Maybe it's friends.

  764. Maybe it's family. I don't know. Do you

  765. know who I hope to see? I want to see

  766. Job.

  767. And I want to say, Job, what was it like

  768. when you were able to look back on your

  769. story

  770. and have all the answers

  771. and see Job, your redeemer, face to face

  772. and know Job, that he lives.

  773. And I truly believe

  774. he would say on that day, yes, you're

  775. right. My hope it is found in Jesus my

  776. redeemer lives. Let's pray.

  777. Lord Jesus, we thank you that we have

  778. hope that our redeemer lives. And there

  779. are times, Lord, where we are a

  780. contradiction,

  781. where we do not understand what you're

  782. doing and we cannot see the full picture

  783. and we cannot know what your plan is.

  784. But we praise your name, Lord Jesus,

  785. that our redeemer lives, that he

  786. intercedes for us in heaven. and is

  787. seated at the right hand and is coming

  788. once again to judge the living and the

  789. dead. And he will do what is right and

  790. we will hope in him.

  791. We praise your name that one day our

  792. faith will be turned to sight.

  793. In your precious name, Jesus, we pray

  794. these things. Amen.
