  1. So guys, we'll continue with the series we started on two weeks ago.

  2. So we've been doing this series called Wilderness 40.

  3. Wilderness 40.

  4. And today we'll talk about majesty, because we said,

  5. we ended last week saying that the starting point for all confidence is

  6. majesty. And so we'll talk about that.

  7. So we continue with the series.

  8. So here's what we've been doing for those who don't remember.

  9. We are following the Holy Spirit into the wilderness,

  10. preparing for the soon coming post-COVID world.

  11. Most companies are, most nations are, most governments are, airlines are,

  12. everybody's preparing for the post-COVID world,

  13. because it'll be different.

  14. Perhaps the people that aren't preparing for the post-COVID world are the church.

  15. And so we've been following the Spirit into the wilderness,

  16. preparing for the soon coming post-COVID world.

  17. And so over the last few weeks, or at least over the last two weeks,

  18. the plan has been to draw a side.

  19. And in drawing a side, our intent is,

  20. in drawing a side, our intent is that we become Spirit dependent.

  21. In drawing a side, our intent is that we become Spirit dependent.

  22. And by drawing a side, it means different things to different people.

  23. Some of you, and I marvel at this, eh,

  24. that some of you are actually spiritually quarantining yourself.

  25. Some of you are fasting.

  26. Some of you are practicing spiritual disciplines

  27. that you had not paid much attention to in the past.

  28. So I marvel at how seriously you are drawing a side,

  29. locating the Holy Spirit, and being affected by Him.

  30. I didn't expect that.

  31. And so bless you for that.

  32. As I hear stories of what you're doing and how you're setting yourself aside,

  33. awesome, man.

  34. Because truth is learned through practice and repetition.

  35. Truth is learned through practice and repetition.

  36. Truth is not learned through hearing.

  37. Hearing is the first step,

  38. but thereafter it's learned through practice and repetition.

  39. And so the plan is to draw a side.

  40. Why draw a side?

  41. Because just like the Holy Spirit led Jesus into the wilderness,

  42. over the next six weeks we are following the Spirit of God into the wilderness

  43. so that we may draw a side.

  44. And once you do that, you will come back, spirit dependent,

  45. you'll come back with an overwhelming revelation of God,

  46. an overwhelming revelation of God.

  47. Because anyone who is led by the Spirit to go into a time

  48. where you draw a side, I go into the wilderness,

  49. they always return having encountered God

  50. in a way they've never encountered Him before, and we talked about that.

  51. And we are drawing a side so that we may return,

  52. so that we may return with power.

  53. To do what?

  54. To restore and to seed the earth

  55. that awaits us when COVID lifts.

  56. If corporate institutions and governments can prepare themselves

  57. for a time such as this, where they begin to think along the lines of,

  58. so once COVID lifts, how do we restore things?

  59. Or what does normalcy look like?

  60. How do we once again begin to seed our clientele in a way that will bring back returns?

  61. In the same way that God is thinking far ahead of it, eh?

  62. And so if we can begin to see what God wants us to do,

  63. the church can begin to position itself.

  64. Because there is, and we won't talk about this today,

  65. but there is something called a post-COVID landscape that awaits us.

  66. And the post-COVID landscape will only be taken by a church or by churches,

  67. and God wishes that every church do so, by churches who position themselves.

  68. Otherwise, the only thing that will come out of COVID for most churches

  69. will be a better live streaming system.

  70. That just sucks if that's all that comes out of it.

  71. Any questions?

  72. Any questions, guys?

  73. No?

  74. Okay.

  75. Guys, remember, there has never been a time like this.

  76. There has never been a time like this.

  77. I keep repeating that every time we meet this way.

  78. There has never been a time like this when the entire earth came to a standstill.

  79. It is not a God thing.

  80. God does not create Sabbaths for the earth by removing a few hundred thousand from the face of the earth.

  81. He does not create Sabbaths by sending diseases that affect 20 million.

  82. It is not God.

  83. That's not God's way of creating rest.

  84. I'm categorically stating it.

  85. Because that's the other thing that's happened with churches across the earth.

  86. We either have distorted views of what is happening,

  87. or we are echo chambers of the person that we listen to most.

  88. And yet we have to look at the nature of God to figure out what is really happening.

  89. And so if this is one of those world-stopping events,

  90. then trust me, man, when God goes to play,

  91. he'll play for big keeps now that it's his turn.

  92. And so a post-COVID world awaits.

  93. And if churches can position themselves well,

  94. they begin to reap dividends for the next 10 or 20 years.

  95. And over the next four or five weeks,

  96. we'll set ourselves up so that we are standing correctly in terms of what God wants to do with us.

  97. And when I say us, I'm talking about anybody who's listening

  98. and the other churches that we're connected with in different parts of the world.

  99. Because I'm having these conversations with India, with South Africa, with the UK,

  100. with different places right now.

  101. So today we start with this idea of governed by his majesty.

  102. As in, if one of the things we have to do as we get ready for whatever God plans,

  103. and it's not like whatever God plans, God has a plan.

  104. Our intent is to get a hang of it and then begin to work it out.

  105. So this is not kaisara-sara.

  106. God has a plan. We've already had glimpses of it.

  107. We know what awaits. Over the next few weeks, we lay it out so that it becomes plain.

  108. So this is very deliberate. It's very intentional.

  109. And so one of the things we want to look at today is how do we get to a place where we are governed by majesty?

  110. As in, can we get to a place where what controls our life is the majesty of God?

  111. You'll be surprised at how critical that is to our existence, to our walk, to the way we see things.

  112. To be governed by majesty, where we can say that we serve at the pleasure of the King

  113. and we speak and act on his behalf, that we do not take our cues from the world.

  114. We do not take our cues from the world, but we serve at the pleasure of the King and we act and speak on his behalf.

  115. Let me say that again because one of the things that's going to happen as we go further and further into the year

  116. is that the world will tell us what cues to follow.

  117. They'll tell us how things are going to happen, what we should do.

  118. And I'm saying to you, the point is not defiance.

  119. The point is to hear what the God of heaven says about things and then take our orders from him

  120. and speak and act on his behalf because God needs to speak and he speaks through a people.

  121. Show me one incident in the Bible, be it the flood, be it when they entered the promised land,

  122. be it when the Holy Spirit came, be it when Jesus ascended, be it before he died, be it after he died.

  123. Show me one place in the Bible where there was an event that was earth-changing, where God did not announce his intent.

  124. One place in the Bible, in the Old Testament or the New Testament, where God did not announce his intent.

  125. He always announces his intent and he announces it through his body.

  126. And it's not a mixed message. It's a very clear clarion call as in this is what I'm doing.

  127. Now, you want to join me?

  128. Any questions?

  129. Okay. So let's look at Psalm 8. We'll start at Psalm 8.

  130. Psalm 8.

  131. It starts with the opening line,

  132. And the first, O Lord, is actually Yahweh and the second Lord is Adonai.

  133. So what the Psalm writer is saying is, O Yahweh, our Lord, how majestic is your name.

  134. He starts with this idea of majesty.

  135. And then as we go further down the Psalm, you'll begin to kind of grasp what majesty looks like.

  136. Psalm 8 starts with, O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth.

  137. And the word used is Yahweh. And Yahweh basically means the self-existent one.

  138. The self-existent one. Unrivaled, undefeated, from whom all things source life.

  139. Everything that exists is sustained, is sourced, originates, has life.

  140. Everything, everywhere depends for life on him.

  141. This is how sovereign he is, eh?

  142. So it's very deliberately that the word Yahweh is used there.

  143. The self-existent one, who if he wants can think and cause existence to cease.

  144. He does not even need to speak.

  145. He can bring things into non-existence, sheerly by thinking it, leave alone speaking it.

  146. One of the songs that tries to capture it is Alpha and Omega.

  147. You are Alpha, as in you are the first, and Omega, as in the last, and everything in between.

  148. That comet we saw will come back 6,800 years from now.

  149. Because it has an orbit that is so large that it will take 6,800 years to come back.

  150. And the universe isn't even touched in terms of its outer expanse.

  151. This is a God who sits far above, far beyond, far more expansive than the universe we can think of.

  152. And then the writer says, oh Yahweh, self-existent one, unrivaled, undefeated,

  153. from whom everything, everywhere seeks and finds and depends for life on.

  154. That is who we are talking about.

  155. Because we don't necessarily think so, we miss out on majesty, guys.

  156. Just because our minds cannot comprehend majesty is not a good enough reason not to comprehend majesty.

  157. This is the problem with instruction manuals from IKEA, right?

  158. You look at it and you think, not even worth it.

  159. You can do that with IKEA, you can't do it with IAM.

  160. Right, Tuni?

  161. So what is majesty? What is majesty?

  162. It's so hard to explain.

  163. What is majesty?

  164. It's so hard to take a word or a line and say this is majesty.

  165. Let me give you an example.

  166. Some of the lines from the song, So Will I, give you an idea of majesty.

  167. I mean, sing along. We'll sing it along.

  168. Sing it twice and you'll get an idea what majesty is.

  169. Just one glimpse and we'll talk about a few other things.

  170. One of the things this song is able to capture is this idea of majesty.

  171. So, I'll just let us sing it and you can sing along.

  172. You can sing along.

  173. You might have to wing it on your own.

  174. God of creation, there at the start before the beginning of time

  175. With no point of reference, you spoke to the dark and fleshed out the wonder of light

  176. God of creation, there at the start before the beginning of time

  177. With no point of reference, you spoke to the dark and fleshed out the wonder of light

  178. And as you speak, a hundred billion galaxies are born

  179. In the vapor of your breath, the planets form

  180. If the stars are made to worship, so will I

  181. And as you speak, a hundred billion creatures catch your breath

  182. Evolving in pursuit of what you said

  183. If it reveals your nature, so will I

  184. And as you speak, a hundred billion failures disappear

  185. Where you lost your life so I could find it here

  186. If you left the grave behind, you so will I

  187. And as you speak, a hundred billion galaxies are born

  188. In the vapor of your breath, the planets form

  189. If the stars are made to worship, so will I

  190. And as you speak, a hundred billion creatures catch your breath

  191. Evolving in pursuit of what you said

  192. If it reveals your nature, so will I

  193. And as you speak, a hundred billion failures disappear

  194. Where you lost your life so I could find it here

  195. If you left the grave behind, you so will I

  196. And as you speak, a hundred billion galaxies are born

  197. In the vapor of your breath, the planets form

  198. If the stars are made to worship, so will I

  199. And as you speak, a hundred billion galaxies are born

  200. In the vapor of your breath, the planets form

  201. If the stars are made to worship, so will I

  202. If the stars are made to worship, so will I

  203. Mark 15, 16-20

  204. Here's what it says

  205. This is majesty

  206. The soldiers led Jesus away into the palace

  207. And called together the whole company of soldiers

  208. They put a purple robe on him

  209. Then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on him

  210. And they began to call out to him, Hail, King of the Jews

  211. Again and again they struck him on the head with a staff and spit on him

  212. Falling on their knees, they paid homage to him

  213. They mocked him, they took off the purple robe, put on his own clothes on him

  214. And then they led him out to be crucified

  215. This is what majesty looks like

  216. Majesty also looks like Isaiah 6

  217. In the year of King Uzziah, I saw heaven open

  218. And I saw the Lord seated on his throne

  219. The train of his robe filled the temple

  220. There were angels flying around

  221. And the place shook and was filled with smoke

  222. And I heard a voice saying, Holy, Holy, Holy

  223. The Lord God Almighty, heaven and earth are filled with his glory

  224. Oh, don't you for a second think that is not majesty either

  225. This is why you can't take a word, a phrase, a sentence

  226. And put it together and create this majesty

  227. It is so many things put together, man

  228. And the more you become aware of it, the more you recognize

  229. The length and breadth of what the King of Kings can do on the earth through you

  230. You look at Revelations 4.10

  231. And you begin to have an idea of what it really looks like now

  232. Revelations 4.10, it says

  233. They laid their crowns before the throne and they said, You are worthy

  234. It starts in verse 1

  235. After that I looked and there before me was a door standing open in heaven

  236. And the voice I first heard speaking to me said, Come up here and I'll show you

  237. At once I was in the spirit and there before me was a throne in heaven

  238. With someone sitting on it

  239. Then we go to verse 10 and it says

  240. They lay their crowns before the throne and they say, You are worthy our Lord and God

  241. To receive glory and honor and power for you created all things

  242. By you were they created and by you do they have their being

  243. Go to Revelations 5.10

  244. And in Revelations 5.10 you see again

  245. You

  246. Then I looked and I heard the voice of many angels

  247. Numbering thousands upon thousands and ten thousand times ten thousand

  248. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders

  249. And in a loud voice they sang

  250. Worthy is the lamb who was slain to receive power, wealth, wisdom, strength, honor, glory, praise

  251. Then I heard every creature in heaven and earth

  252. Under the earth and in the sea and that is in them

  253. Singing to him who sits on the throne

  254. And to the lamb be praise and honor and glory and power forever and ever

  255. How do you capture this majesty man?

  256. You got to put all this together before you begin to fathom majesty

  257. And this is a real place, there is a throne

  258. There is the majestic voice

  259. In Hebrews chapter 8 verse 1

    Hebrews 8:1

  260. It says so in Hebrews in 2nd Peter 1 17 it says so in Hebrews 8 1

  261. Here's what it says

  262. That there is an actual place and Jesus went there

  263. Hebrews chapter 8 verse 1 it says

    Hebrews 8:1

  264. The point of what we are saying is this

  265. We do have such a high priest who sat down at the right hand of the throne of majesty in heaven

  266. As in there is God the father

  267. He does dwell on a throne

  268. And there is the right hand of majesty

  269. You go to 2nd Peter 1 17

  270. This isn't some fiction 2nd Peter 1 17

  271. No 2nd Peter

  272. Yeah 2nd Peter 1 17 and here's what it says

  273. For he received honor and glory from God the father

  274. When the voice came to him from the majestic glory saying

  275. This is my son whom I have called Jesus

  276. When the voice came to him from the majestic glory saying

  277. This is my son whom I love with him I am well pleased

  278. There is this voice that comes from the place of majesty man

  279. That if you and I can listen

  280. It will give us the kind of courage that you and I cannot have in any other way

  281. Listen in

  282. It's not a thundering voice

  283. Sometimes it's a whisper but you can hear

  284. Sometimes you are so flippant with

  285. Yeah I think the Lord said to me

  286. No man this is the majestic voice from a place called the throne of God

  287. That sometimes speaks to you

  288. Yes he spoke this and people wrote it

  289. But if you think God has stopped speaking

  290. That's so sad we just dumbed God down

  291. He actually still does

  292. So when people tell you it's good to sing and spend time before God

  293. It's not because he wants a couple of songs before he speaks

  294. It is because when you enter this place of majesty

  295. It is natural to break out in spontaneous worship

  296. Catch a glimpse of him before you sing

  297. To sing before you catch a glimpse of him is like sawdust

  298. To catch a glimpse of him and then sing is like nightingale

  299. Or whatever fancy bird that sings

  300. Catch a glimpse of him before you sing

  301. Catch a glimpse of him before you speak

  302. And it changes everything

  303. Praise and worship in a church should never be a time where people come in

  304. And the worship leader gets them going

  305. So that they can catch a glimpse of God by the last song

  306. You should come here having caught a glimpse of him

  307. And come here saying why doesn't Jane begin

  308. Because I can't wait

  309. And it doesn't matter then whether the sound is ready or the piano is playing right or Jane singing well

  310. Hebrews 1-3

  311. It says that Jesus Christ is the radiance of the invisible God

  312. The exact image of the invisible God

  313. And that he having sustained the universe with his words

  314. And having made purification for our sins

  315. Sat down at the right hand of majesty

  316. Again there's this whole thing of sitting down at the right hand of majesty

  317. And then he says, I'm going to sing

  318. Again there's this whole thing of sitting down at the right hand of majesty

  319. But that's not the good news

  320. That's just where he dwells

  321. The good news is this

  322. That in Ephesians 2-6 it says

  323. And now Jacob you are seated with him in heavenly places

  324. This axis is real guys

  325. It's real

  326. It's real

  327. If you believe that there is a throne

  328. That the father sits on

  329. If you believe that there is at his right hand a place where Jesus sits

  330. Then you must also believe that

  331. That there's a place there for you

  332. And that people in the body of Christ must learn

  333. How to live heaven towards earth instead of earth towards heaven

  334. We're always looking up for crumbs

  335. When you can actually be sitting with him

  336. And seeing what he wants done

  337. These are the kinds of churches that will really thrive in a post-COVID landscape

  338. Any questions?

  339. So why be governed by majesty?

  340. Why be governed by majesty?

  341. Because if you want to function on earth

  342. You have to be like Christ himself

  343. And Christ was a king and he was a priest

  344. Why be governed by majesty?

  345. Because to function on earth

  346. The body must have the nature of the king priest

  347. The body must have the nature of the king priest

  348. Every person on earth has to have the nature of the king priest

  349. Everything we do is because Jesus did it

  350. On earth, everything we become

  351. Everything we do is because that is how Christ walked the earth

  352. And therefore that is now his expectation

  353. Of how his body will walk the earth

  354. I know it's hot guys but

  355. Try and listen and somehow survive

  356. And then you can go home and listen to it again

  357. But if you want to function

  358. Not if you want to function

  359. There's a demand on us to function as the body of Christ

  360. Just like the head, the Christ function

  361. How did he walk the earth?

  362. That is what God's expectation is of the body

  363. That listen, if Jesus walked the earth

  364. This is my expectation of you

  365. And Jesus walked the earth as a king priest

  366. So if you look at Psalm 110

  367. You'll find it in the Old Testament

  368. You'll find it in the New Testament

  369. Psalm 110, verse 2 and 4

    Psalms 110:2

  370. It's speaking of him

  371. And it says in Psalm 110, verse 2

    Psalms 110:2

  372. It says the Lord will extend

  373. And this is David talking about Jesus

  374. The Lord said to my Lord

  375. It's David talking about Jesus

  376. And so in verse 2 it says

  377. The Lord will extend your separate body

  378. And you will have a separate body

  379. And you will have a separate body

  380. And it says the Lord will extend your sector from Zion

  381. You will rule in the midst of your enemies

  382. Verse 4

  383. The Lord has sworn and will not change his mind

  384. You're a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek

  385. There is this need for us to grasp the fact

  386. That if the body of Christ is to function the way

  387. It's supposed to function on the earth

  388. Then it has to be both king and priest

  389. And we'll expand on that later

  390. But this is something we need to understand

  391. Because if we are not governed by majesty

  392. We do not know what it is

  393. Look at Hebrews 7, 1

  394. Hebrews 7, 1

  395. Talking about Jesus again

  396. Hebrews 7, 1

  397. This Melchizedek was the king of Salem

  398. And the priest of God most high

  399. He met Abraham returning from the defeat of the kings

  400. And blessed him

  401. And Abraham gave him a tenth of everything

  402. First his name means king of righteousness

  403. And the king of Salem

  404. Without father or mother, without genealogy

  405. Without beginning or end of life

  406. Like the son of God, he remains a priest forever

  407. God sent Jesus to walk the earth

  408. Both as a king and a priest

  409. In the likeness of Melchizedek

  410. Who was a king and a priest

  411. Let's look at Revelation 1, 6

  412. Because if Jesus is like that

  413. Does he demand that of us?

  414. Revelation 1, 6

  415. I know it's easier to listen to teaching

  416. When there's no scripture

  417. But unfortunately this one has a whole lot of scripture

  418. Revelation 1, 6

  419. Let's start at

  420. Yeah, 1, 6

  421. It says there

  422. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins

  423. By his blood

  424. And he has made us to be kings and priests

  425. To serve his God and father

  426. To him be glory and power forever and ever

  427. So now we're talking about the body of Christ

  428. And it says, hey, I've made you kings and priests

  429. Let's go to Revelation 5, 11

  430. Revelation 5, 11

  431. 5, 10

  432. Or 5, 9

  433. And they sang a new song

  434. You are worthy to take the scroll and open its seals

  435. Because you were slain

  436. And with your blood you purchased men

  437. And this is talking about the body of Christ

  438. Men for God from every tribe, language, people and nation

  439. You have made them to be kings and priests

  440. To serve our God and they will reign on earth

  441. Let's look at one more

  442. Look at 1 Peter 2, 9

  443. 1 Peter 2, 9

  444. Famous scripture

  445. 1 Peter 2, 9

  446. But you are a chosen people

  447. A royal priesthood

  448. Priesthood, a holy nation

  449. I'm glad he's inviting us to step into this place, man

  450. And it's not a new idea

  451. It's not a New Testament idea

  452. It's an Old Testament idea

  453. Exodus 19, verse 5

    Exodus 19:5

  454. Exodus 19, verse 5

    Exodus 19:5

  455. Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant

  456. Then out of all the nations

  457. I love this

  458. He's saying this to Israel

  459. Israel didn't make it

  460. So now he turns to us and says

  461. Hey, you guys can make it because I live in your midst

  462. And he says

  463. Out of all the nations you will be my treasured possession

  464. Although the whole earth is mine

  465. You will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation

  466. He said that thousands of years ago, man

  467. This is what he's inviting us to step into

  468. By the way, when Adam was created

  469. Majesty is what God clothed Adam with

  470. It says that I gave him glory and honor

  471. The way the message puts it in Hebrews, chapter 2, verse 7 and 8

    Hebrews 2:7

  472. Is that he clothed Adam with Eden's dawn light

  473. Clothed Adam with

  474. He clothed Adam bright with Eden's dawn light

  475. Hebrews, chapter 2, verse 6 to 8

    Hebrews 2:6–8

  476. That was what he clothed Adam with

  477. Why? Because Adam was supposed to be his vice regent

  478. He was supposed to be his deputy here on earth

  479. He was supposed to steward the earth on God's behalf

  480. This isn't something he's holding on to himself for

  481. This was what Adam and Eve were clothed with

  482. With honor

  483. With glory

  484. With bright light

  485. With glory

  486. With bright Eden's dawn light

  487. How we've been robbed, man

  488. How we've been robbed

  489. I was watching on BBC

  490. I was watching this documentary on slums in Manila, Philippines

  491. How's...

  492. It was so painful to see

  493. It's not like I haven't seen slums

  494. I grew up in India

  495. But it was so painful again to see slums

  496. And the dignity of man reduced to nothing

  497. There was one woman who gave birth

  498. Or miscarried and gave birth to a six-month-old baby

  499. And now she wants the baby blessed before she can bury it

  500. And she's carrying the baby in a bag that we would probably go to TNT with

  501. Because she does not have a box

  502. She's scared to tell her parents because her parents may not like the fact that she was a teenager and got pregnant

  503. So she's carrying it in a bag

  504. You would think she went shopping

  505. She's going from place to place wanting to have the baby buried

  506. First prayed for, blessed before it's buried

  507. The questions that are being asked of her is

  508. Why didn't you put it in a box?

  509. Don't you have enough sense to put it in a box?

  510. She's bleeding

  511. She's just had this dead baby in her arms

  512. And they're asking her questions like that

  513. I'm watching it and I'm thinking

  514. Father, where is the dignity of man?

  515. And I've read the scripture which says that you clothed us with honor and with glory

  516. Oh my God, what have we lost?

  517. Eden's dawn light was what we were clothed with

  518. Which is why in Hebrews chapter 2, verse 6 to 8 it says

    Hebrews 2:6–8

  519. For a while you have been made lower than angels

  520. And everything was put in your charge

  521. You were given dominion

  522. It's a Genesis charge

  523. And then it says Christ came and he lived right

  524. And a time is coming when we will once again

  525. Become like the one we behold

  526. 1 John 3, 2, thank God it's coming

  527. 1 John chapter 3, verse 1 and 2

    1 John 3:1

  528. Or verse 2 and 3 says

  529. But a day is coming when we will be changed

  530. And we will possess the same glory that he has

  531. And anyone who thinks like this purifies himself

  532. That even thinking of what we were and what we will now become

  533. Purifies you

  534. Let's actually read it

  535. 1 John 3

  536. 2 and 3

  537. Or 1, 2 and 3

  538. How great is the love the Father has lavished on us

  539. That we should be called children of God

  540. And that is what we are

  541. The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him

  542. Dear friends, now we are children of God

  543. And we are called children of God

  544. Dear friends, now we are children of God

  545. But what we will be has not yet been made known

  546. But we know that when he appears

  547. We shall be like him

  548. How do you think Adam and Eve had the ability to walk with God

  549. In the cool of the garden?

  550. And why does it say that we cannot approach him

  551. Because he lives in unapproachable light?

  552. Because things changed

  553. But it's going to come back to where it used to be man

  554. And then it says in verse 3

  555. Everyone who has his hope in him

  556. Purifies himself just as he is pure

  557. Beautiful, eh?

  558. So how can I be governed by majesty this week?

  559. How can I be governed by majesty this week?

  560. Guys, if you want to be governed by anything

  561. Good or bad, eh? Doesn't matter

  562. Your pick

  563. Either good things or bad things

  564. If you want to be governed by majesty

  565. Or governed by evil

  566. Or governed by shame

  567. Or governed by confidence

  568. Whatever you want to be governed by

  569. First by beholding

  570. And then by being

  571. Both these proceed doing

  572. Most people go for the doing first

  573. They say, alright, I've got to become this

  574. I've got to go do

  575. No, you do not become anything till you behold

  576. And once you behold, you become

  577. And once you become, you do

  578. So how can I be governed by majesty this week?

  579. By beholding and being

  580. What does that look like?

  581. Colossians 3.1 is where we can start

  582. Colossians 3.1, and here's what Paul says to the church in Colossus

  583. He says, hey guys

  584. Set your mind and set your heart on things above

  585. Because that's where the action is

  586. That's how the message puts it

  587. The NIV puts it plainly

  588. And yet carries a whole lot of weight

  589. Colossians 3.1

  590. Since then you have been raised with Christ

  591. Set your hearts on things above

  592. Where Christ is seated at the right hand of God

  593. Set your mind on things above

  594. Not on earthly things

  595. So one of the first things we do guys

  596. If you want to go down this route

  597. Is you have to deliberately set your mind

  598. And your heart on things above

  599. How do you do that?

  600. By beginning to like what you are running after

  601. You cannot set your mind and heart on anything

  602. That you don't really want or you don't really like

  603. My heart and mind is set on 7.30 p.m. today

  604. Why?

  605. Because I want them to go up three zip

  606. So if you have a meeting with me at 7.30 today

  607. You can sit there but you won't have my heart and mind

  608. Because it's set somewhere else

  609. You set your heart and mind

  610. It's a very intentional, very deliberate action

  611. Do you want to be governed by majesty this week?

  612. Set your heart and mind on where the action is

  613. As the message says

  614. Set your heart and mind on things above

  615. As in oh God I want to begin to comprehend

  616. What majesty is this week

  617. Comprehend what majesty is this week

  618. Colossians 3.1 is where you start

  619. And then thereafter you go to 2 Peter 1.16-18

  620. 2 Peter 1.16-18

  621. There's someone I'm supposed to meet at 7.00 p.m. today

  622. They must be watching and thinking

  623. Shucks, he's not going to be paying attention

  624. Don't worry, I'll finish the meeting in half an hour

  625. 2 Peter 1.16-18

  626. Oh shucks, I got a text too

  627. I thought we were meeting, not watching hockey

  628. Yeah, 2 Peter 1.16-18

  629. Talks about how the disciples, Peter, John and James

  630. Were eyewitnesses of his majesty

  631. And they heard the voice of God

  632. They climbed the mountain with him

  633. They were eyewitnesses to his majesty

  634. And they heard the voice of God

  635. Climb the mountain this week, man

  636. Which mountain? Not Grouse

  637. Climb the mountain as in

  638. Go climbing up the word literally

  639. And say, Father, I want to both see you and hear you through the word

  640. One of the ways we can see Jesus this week

  641. Is read him in the Gospels

  642. Majesty is revealed through the Gospels

  643. Because majesty is revealed through Jesus

  644. Jesus is the invisible image of the invisible God

  645. This week, do one of two things

  646. Either begin to read different portions from all four Gospels

  647. Or decide that I am going to take the book of John

  648. And over the next seven days

  649. Finish reading it from chapter one to chapter 20

  650. 21

  651. 20, 21? 21

  652. Chapter one to chapter 21

  653. Three chapters a day

  654. Or 21 chapters a day

  655. Seven times over, it's up to you

  656. But begin to read it

  657. Because in the Gospels you will see Christ

  658. The anointed one, the Prince, the Majesty

  659. The King of Kings revealed

  660. And that is one way to catch who God is

  661. You and I can't go up the mountain of Transfiguration anymore

  662. But you and I can go up the mountain of Transfiguration

  663. With Peter, James and John

  664. And come back with a greater understanding

  665. That Peter, James and John did

  666. Because they wanted to build them tents

  667. Up on the mountain

  668. And say, do you, Elijah and Moses want to stay here?

  669. They were pretty dull, man

  670. The third way is in Colossians

  671. Sorry, 2 Corinthians 3, 18

  672. Again, it's the whole idea of beholding

  673. 2 Corinthians 3, 18

  674. It says, And we with unveiled faces now behold him

  675. And as we behold him we are changed

  676. From one brightness to the other

  677. One glory to greater glory by the Spirit

  678. And we begin to reflect his majesty

  679. Guys, in your worship this week

  680. I know we're doing different homework every week

  681. This week's homework is

  682. Hey, let's catch a glimpse of his majesty

  683. Let's do it by beholding and becoming

  684. And let's do it through the Gospels

  685. And let us do it through going to him and saying

  686. Okay, as I wake up right now

  687. I want to behold your majesty

  688. Guys, whatever you behold you become

  689. Either to your restoration or to your ruin

  690. Whatever you behold you become

  691. Either to your restoration or to your ruin

  692. When you wake up in the morning

  693. What is the first thing that you behold?

  694. What is the first thing that you think of?

  695. It is what you become

  696. If you think of shame, if you think of fear

  697. If you think of your debt

  698. If you think of how difficult life is

  699. If you think of whatever is ailing you

  700. Then over the day you begin to be changed

  701. From shame to shame, pain to pain

  702. Not glory to glory but fear to fear

  703. Who do you behold?

  704. Learn the practice of beholding him

  705. In your pain, in your lack, in your confusion

  706. Learn to behold him

  707. Learn to behold him

  708. Because what you behold is what you become

  709. Which is why in Isaiah

  710. God keeps saying to Israel

  711. Hey, you keep beholding those idols that you have made

  712. You will become like them

  713. This is why one of the conditions of idolatry

  714. Is deafness, dumbness and dullness

  715. They have become dumb like their idols

  716. Nations that have idol worship

  717. Will always have a cloud of dullness, dumbness and deafness

  718. When it comes to things of God

  719. It is one of the hardest things to penetrate

  720. It's almost catatonic where people are not able to understand

  721. And break out of the dullness

  722. Because of years and years of idol worship

  723. Any questions?

  724. I still have time guys

  725. I hope that watch is right

  726. Hey, did he tell you this goes on forever?

  727. He didn't, eh?

  728. Evan, you should have told them

  729. It doesn't go on forever but it goes on for long

  730. The worship leader takes forever

  731. Any questions?

  732. Okay, what does it look like to live out majesty on earth?

  733. What does it look like to live out majesty on earth?

  734. What does it look like to live out majesty on earth?

  735. One of the best ways to look at what it looks like

  736. Is to look at Jesus

  737. When you look at Jesus you realize, ah shucks

  738. So this is what majesty looks like on earth

  739. It's strange

  740. Here is the one who lives in unapproachable light

  741. Here is the one they call Yahweh

  742. The self-existent one

  743. And yet in Isaiah 53 verse 2

    Isaiah 53:2

  744. It says, He had no beauty or majesty in Him

  745. How odd man

  746. How does this

  747. How does He who is so majestic

  748. That He cannot be approached

  749. Come to the earth

  750. And when He comes to the earth

  751. They say of Him

  752. That He had no beauty or majesty in Him

  753. And there was nothing attractive about Him

  754. That's the first thing you need to know

  755. Majesty does not mean attractiveness

  756. It has nothing to do with the outer appearance

  757. Which is why the only people who saw Him in His brilliance

  758. Were Peter, James and John

  759. The ones closest to Him

  760. Because He knew He could trust them to keep it quiet

  761. And they did keep it quiet

  762. With God

  763. With God, majesty and meekness are inseparable

  764. There are two sides of this divine coin

  765. With God, majesty and meekness are inseparable

  766. There are two sides of the divine coin

  767. You cannot separate it

  768. Graham Kendrick

  769. Most of you don't know him

  770. Because he used to write brilliant songs

  771. Before you were born

  772. Like, Shine Jesus, shine

  773. That's exactly what I said

  774. That's exactly what I said

  775. You wouldn't know

  776. So he writes this song called

  777. Meekness and Majesty

  778. And I've just taken some lines out of it

  779. Listen to this, hey

  780. Meekness and Majesty in perfect harmony

  781. Kneels in humility and washes our feet

  782. Lord of infinity, stooping so tenderly

  783. Lifts our humanity to the heights of His throne

  784. I'll read it again

  785. Brilliant words, man

  786. Meekness and Majesty in perfect harmony

  787. Kneels in humility and washes our feet

  788. Lord of infinity, stooping so tenderly

  789. Lifts our humanity to the heights of His throne

  790. Graham Kendrick

  791. In Matthew 21 verse 5

    Matthew 21:5

  792. You see this happening, eh?

  793. I mean, the sad thing is

  794. Christians choose one or the other

  795. Christians either choose one or the other

  796. Christians either choose

  797. We are kings, we are sons of kings

  798. We are majestic

  799. Look at us, look at us

  800. And then there's the other group of Christians who say

  801. We are just meek, we are weak

  802. We are just made strong in our weakness

  803. And you have either one or the other

  804. And it's neither, it's both

  805. You can't have one or the other

  806. So you got this strength and weakness bunch of Christians

  807. And you got this strength and

  808. How majestic I am, Christians

  809. And it's neither, it's both

  810. One is completely poverty mentality

  811. One is completely prosperity mentality

  812. And both are extremes

  813. You see him in Matthew 21 verse 5

    Matthew 21:5

  814. Majesty comes riding in meekness on a donkey

  815. They're shouting

  816. The pilgrims are on their way

  817. Up the ascent to the temple in Jerusalem

  818. And they're taking off their outer garments

  819. And waving palm fronds and placing it before him

  820. And this majesty

  821. And he knows the moment

  822. He knows Zechariah 9, 9

  823. Majesty comes riding in meekness on a donkey

  824. That's how he begins this triumphal entry

  825. That's in 21 verse 5

  826. But then in 21, 13

  827. You see him exerting such authority and power

  828. When he begins to cleanse the temple

  829. Of extortionists and corrupt religious leaders

  830. That's one thing majesty does, say

  831. Majesty cannot stand corrupt religion

  832. You take all the prophets

  833. You take Jesus

  834. You take Paul

  835. They could never stand for religion

  836. Any trapping of religion

  837. They hated it and they paid a cost for it

  838. Ezekiel could have done well

  839. Jeremiah could have done well

  840. Jesus could have done brilliantly

  841. He wouldn't have had to be crucified

  842. Paul could have done well

  843. But none of them would keep quiet when it came to religion

  844. Any trapping of religion

  845. It doesn't matter if that religion had to do with Peter

  846. Paul would still call it out

  847. Have a hatred

  848. For the very thing that put Christ on the cross

  849. And so not only does Majesty now take a whip

  850. And cleanse the temple from extortionists

  851. And the corrupt religious leadership

  852. After that, guess what he does?

  853. After cleansing the temple

  854. He invites the blind and the laymen

  855. That's in verse 14

  856. Where the same Majesty now stoops

  857. Invites the blind and the crippled

  858. And he stoops to heal them

  859. And then in verse 15

  860. It is the young, the children

  861. That are running around

  862. Shouting Hosanna

  863. And they silence the opposition

  864. Let me end

  865. So why me? Why should I be involved in this?

  866. Why should I get involved in this whole Majesty thing?

  867. Because the all-powerful God

  868. Chooses words spoken by his children

  869. As the means of his majestic victories

  870. Let me say that again

  871. The all-powerful God

  872. Who could with a blast of his nostrils

  873. Or with a simple thought

  874. Do whatever he wants to on the earth

  875. That powerful God chooses

  876. The words of his children

  877. Words spoken by his children

  878. As the means of victory

  879. You can't underestimate this

  880. Guys, the thing is

  881. Out of the mouth of babes and infants

  882. You have established strength

  883. To silence the enemies

  884. We are back in Psalm 8

  885. Psalm 8 verse 1 says

    Psalms 8:1

  886. Oh Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth

  887. Psalm 8 verse 2 says

    Psalms 8:2

  888. Out of the mouth of babies and infants

  889. You have ordained or established strength

  890. To silence the enemy

  891. This God decides that the way

  892. I'm going to thrash the enemy

  893. Is through the words spoken by my children

  894. Regardless how grown up

  895. How mature or immature they are

  896. It is their words I will use to silence the enemy

  897. We talked about this last week

  898. Your spirit man is connected to your vocal chords

  899. Your spirit man is connected to your vocal chords

  900. Do not allow your culture

  901. Your denomination

  902. Your shyness

  903. Your introversion

  904. Your laziness

  905. Your spiritual sluggishness

  906. Prevent you from speaking out

  907. Things on behalf of God

  908. He goes on to verse 5 to 8 in Psalm 8

  909. Look at what he says there

  910. So the first thing is listen

  911. I'll bring an end to the enemy's works

  912. And silence him through the words spoken by babies and infants

  913. And this is a cool thing

  914. Jesus now has children running around

  915. The message in the passion version of the Bible

  916. Is that the word of God is the word of God

  917. And the word of God is the word of God

  918. And the word of God is the word of God

  919. And the word of God is the word of God

  920. The message in the passion version puts it

  921. That the children were running around Jesus

  922. Shouting hosannas and the leaders and the Pharisees

  923. And the scribes came and said

  924. Won't you stop them?

  925. And Jesus said

  926. Out of the mouth of babes and infants

  927. I have ordained strength that will silence the enemy

  928. And guess what happens

  929. The entire religious establishment goes silent

  930. Hey you young guys

  931. And when I say young guys

  932. I'm talking about anyone under 45

  933. You young guys

  934. You need to speak

  935. You need to speak

  936. Because this thing must be carried by you

  937. We older guys are discovering this very late in our lives

  938. You need to speak man

  939. You need to speak during times of worship

  940. You need to speak especially during not times of worship

  941. Because you only worship two hours a week

  942. Because this thing either succeeds or falls based on how we respond

  943. God does not break protocol

  944. When it comes to how we want to do something

  945. He doesn't say shats not working

  946. Let's forget this

  947. Let's go to plan B

  948. God has never had a plan B

  949. Can you imagine that?

  950. He's never had a plan B

  951. You know why he does not have a plan B?

  952. Because he knows what's going to happen

  953. Even before the earth was founded

  954. He knows everything

  955. He never has a plan B

  956. Eden is exactly where we will return to

  957. This earth will be made new and we will stay here

  958. Christ was slain before the foundations of the earth

  959. God does everything new but everything is old

  960. Tomorrow is a new day

  961. But he already knows everything about that day

  962. With regard to every incident

  963. He knows everything about that day

  964. With regard to every insect, every cockroach, every human being

  965. Every leaf, every earthworm, every bird

  966. He knows everything about everyone

  967. Doing everything tomorrow

  968. And tomorrow hasn't yet come

  969. And tomorrow will be a new day like never before

  970. But it is a day that has already existed before the foundation of time

  971. This is nuts man

  972. Speak, you guys have to speak

  973. Verse 5 to 8

  974. You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings

  975. And crowned him with glory and honor

  976. Talking about man

  977. You made him ruler with the works of your hands

  978. You put everything under his feet

  979. All flocks and herds, the beasts of the fields

  980. And the birds of the air and the fish of the seas

  981. All that swim in the paths of the seas

  982. Oh Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth

  983. There is this idea where in verse 6 it says

  984. You made him ruler over the works of your hands

  985. You put everything under his feet

  986. I want you to know that God Majestic will choose to rule the earth again

  987. Through his weak and foolish body of redeemed man

  988. God is not going to rule through the angels

  989. God is planning and he will succeed

  990. Let me assure you of this

  991. God is planning and he will succeed in ruling the earth

  992. Through weak, foolish people like you

  993. So when I wake up in the week that has gone by

  994. And hear God saying, Jacob, you're a life giver

  995. I write it down

  996. And you can ask anybody I prayed for this week

  997. In every prayer you would hear me say

  998. Oh God, you're a life giver and I speak light

  999. Why?

1000. Because if God has said it then I must speak it

1001. Because I must agree with heaven

1002. Because God wants to do something through the words that we speak

1003. And he rules on earth in every situation

1004. And tries to steward it, change it

1005. Bring it to his advantage and to your benefit

  1006. Through his redeemed body

1007. Through you he does it

  1008. This is not dominion

1009. This is not some kind of weird stewardship

1010. It is just a fact of life

1011. This is how God does it

1012. Who brought down powers during the time of Daniel?

  1013. Duh, Daniel

1014. Who brought down powers and changed the track of nations

1015. During the time of the prophets?

  1016. The prophets

  1017. Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel

1018. Who brought the bones in the valley alive?

1019. It is God, but through whom?

  1020. Through people

1021. Who brings Ephesus to a standstill?

  1022. Paul

1023. Of whom did they say the troublers are here?

1024. They are changing the world around

  1025. Christians

1026. They call them the people of the way

1027. Who are these things done through for ages?

1028. Who brought down the iron wall in Russia?

1029. Old grandmas and grandpas who nobody saw

1030. That prayed for 40 years

1031. Some of them include Gisela

  1032. Chris' mother

1033. Who brought you into salvation?

  1034. God, but through someone

1035. Almost nobody here received a straight vision from Jesus saying

1036. I am he, come now be saved

  1037. So that happens too

1038. At the end of the day, the earth is ruled through ordinary people like Brandon, Prashanth

  1039. And Rachel

1040. This is how he is ordained

1041. You see this unfold in Moses' life

  1042. This is a pattern

1043. Please hold on to this pattern

1044. So Moses now has decided that

1045. I am going to read the Bible

1046. And I am going to read the Bible

1047. And I am going to read the Bible

1048. And I am going to read the Bible

1049. So Moses decided that I am going to retire at 40

1050. I am done with this Prince of Egypt thing

  1051. And I am done

1052. So he is taking care of his sheep quite happy

1053. And then he has an encounter with majesty

1054. And this time it is a real encounter with majesty

1055. Because in the middle of a desert

1056. This bush suddenly bursts into flames

1057. And there is a voice that is coming out of the bush

1058. And he knows that he has now encountered majesty

  1059. That is Exodus 3, verse 14

    Exodus 3:14

1060. The rest of the next chapter, Exodus 4

1061. Is spent haggling with God

1062. I am not the right guy, yes you are the right guy

1063. I am not the right guy, yes you are the right guy

1064. I said you are the right guy, okay I am the right guy

1065. And so Exodus 4 is just spent haggling with God

  1066. Go through that

1067. Because sometimes the things that God says

1068. The moment God says something

1069. If you can accept it without any problem

1070. It perhaps is not God

  1071. It is usually overwhelming

1072. And so Exodus 4 is spent that way

1073. Exodus 5, Moses decides well

1074. If God is saying so, I will go

1075. So guess what he does

1076. He goes back to Egypt

1077. The results are very discouraging

1078. He goes and speaks to Pharaoh

1079. Pharaoh says no way, Jose

1080. And then, no he says no way, Moses

1081. And then he goes and gives them more bricks to make

1082. And so now they are just making more bricks

1083. And they are very upset

1084. And they tell Moses don't come back here

1085. And so normally, Exodus 6 is spent with Moses

1086. Basically regretting what he has done

1087. And then Exodus 7 opens with such a cool line

  1088. Exodus 7, 1

1089. It just is theology that will blow theology away

1090. Here is what God says to Moses

1091. Hey, I want you to know

1092. That you will be like God to Pharaoh

1093. And Aaron, you will be Moses' spade

1094. And then he goes and speaks to Pharaoh

1095. And Aaron, you will be Moses' prophet

1096. That's what God says to him

1097. You will be like God to Pharaoh

1098. Now you are talking about the king

1099. Of the most powerful empire in the world

1100. You are talking about a kingdom

1101. That has some of the most powerful gods

1102. And you are talking about a reluctant, stammering

1103. Retired shepherd who is now sent with words

1104. To dismantle the world's most powerful nation

1105. And the world's most powerful gods

1106. And one by one the plagues begin to unseat the gods of Egypt

1107. Done through a reluctant, stammering retired shepherd

1108. This is the nature of everything God does

  1109. Why?

1110. So that 2 Corinthians 4, 7 may come to pass

1111. So that you may recognize that it is the incomparable power of God that is at work

1112. And that you may not be enamored by these jars of clay that are wearing away

  1113. 2 Corinthians 4, 7

1114. I said I was concluding and I had meant it

1115. This week, guys, discover his majesty

1116. You know, Israel had this cool way of encouraging themselves

1117. Whenever they went on a long journey

1118. Or whenever they went into battle

1119. They would carry the ark on their shoulders

1120. And the ark was a sign of God's glory and majesty

1121. The Philistines were so scared of it

1122. That in 1 Samuel 6 the Philistines say

1123. What are we going to do?

1124. Isn't this the same God that defeated the gods of Egypt?

1125. What are we going to do?

1126. And they begin to panic

  1127. In Joshua chapter 6 verse 4

    Joshua 6:4

1128. Before Jericho falls, it's the ark that goes out ahead

1129. When the ark is taken by the Philistines

  1130. Guess what?

1131. Eli does, he falls and dies

1132. And they name the baby that is born to his daughter-in-law

1133. Eqoboth, meaning the glory of majesty has disappeared, has gone

1134. They knew that the ark or the presence

1135. The presence of glory and majesty that they carried on the shoulder

1136. Was so encouraging during their journeys and during their battles

1137. You begin to grasp these large panoramic views of majesty this week

1138. And when you begin to get governed by it

1139. You will find that you have bread for the journey

1140. And you have a song in your heart during the battle, man

1141. Not a song in your heart, the shout of the king
