Appreciate that humble prayer.
-
And it's been mentioned we're so thankful for that camp meeting and how wonderful that was.
-
And all the spirit that we felt in that meeting.
-
And you know, I believe I felt that spirit again this morning in the singing and the fellowship and in the prayer service.
-
You know, Lord's not short on spirit.
-
He didn't he didn't run out of it at the camp meeting.
-
He's got plenty more, and we're praying this morning that he would give us that spirit where we could worship him in spirit and truth.
-
Apostle Paul had something to say about spirit over here in the eighth chapter of Romans.
-
He says there is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the spirit.
-
For the law of the Spirit of life is Christ Jesus, hath in Christ Jesus, hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
-
For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh, that the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us who walk not after the flesh, but after the spirit.
-
For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh, but they that are after the spirit the things of the spirit.
-
So Paul is telling us that there is a big difference here between the flesh and the spirit.
-
And then he goes on here to tell us how it is that we get that spirit.
-
What's the source of that spirit?
-
He says in the ninth verse, but ye are not in the flesh, but in the spirit, if so be that the spirit of God dwell in you.
-
Now if any man have not the spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
-
So we have that spirit because we're in Christ, and if we're not in Christ, we have none of that spirit.
-
If we have not the spirit, we're not we're not in Christ.
-
But if the spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his spirit that dwelleth in you.
-
So he's talking again about the spirit, but he's going to tell us a little more about it.
-
Fourteenth, he says, For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they're the sons of God.
-
If you have the Spirit of God, you're a son of God.
-
For you have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear.
-
You know the law brought about fear, but ye have received the spirit of adoption whereby we cry of a father.
-
And if I have a subject this morning, it's adoption.
-
So we receive that spirit of adoption whereby we cry of a father.
-
That's Father, Father.
-
The Spirit itself bear witness with our Spirit that we're the children of God.
-
If we have that spirit, we're the children of God.
-
And if children, then we're heirs, heirs of God, joint heirs with Christ.
-
Brother Man, how wonderful is that! Doesn't get any better than that.
-
If so be that we suffer with the children of God, let's see, suffer of him that we may also be glorified together.
-
For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
-
Then in twenty-two he says, For we know that the whole creat creation groaneth and travaileth in pain until now, because we've been under that law.
-
But not only they, but our ourselves also, which have the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves grown within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.
-
We're waiting for that adopt for that adoption, for that redemption.
-
Over in the nine and four, Paul tells us a little bit more about these that are adopted.
-
And here he's he's is feeling sorrowful for his uh Israelite kinsmen.
-
He says, For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh.
-
Who are Israelites, to whom pertaineth the adoption?
-
The adoption pertaineth to him.
-
So we're not talking about uh we're talking about God's people here.
-
To whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God and the promises.
-
All these were given to the Jews.
-
God gave all these to the Jews.
-
But then he uh clarifies that a little bit.
-
He said, Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect, for they are not Israel, not all Israel, which are Israel.
-
Neither because they are the seed of Abraham are they all children, but in Isaac shall thy seed be called.
-
He said, just because you're a son of Abraham doesn't make you a child of God, it doesn't make you subject to the adoption.
-
And that you you know, you remember these Pharisees, they love to say, Well, we have Abraham to our father.
-
They but he uh Paul's saying here that's that's not enough.
-
You've got to be the children of the promise, the seed, and that was Isaac.
-
And what he's saying here is that he's talking to children of God, but that they don't understand the grace of God.
-
And in the if you look over here in the the tenth chapter, it I think it um confirms what he said here, but it said, Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they might be saved.
-
So he's not praying for dead alien sinners, he's praying for God's people.
-
For our brother and recognition that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge, for they being ignorant of God's righteousness and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.
-
They're still trying to work their way to heaven, they haven't submitted themselves to God's righteousness.
-
So these are the ones that pertain to the adoption are the ones that God chose out.
-
He says here in the fifteenth verse of chapter nine, he says, For he saith to Moses, I'll have mercy on whom I'll have mercy.
-
I'll have compassion on whom I'll have compassion.
-
So then it's not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that showeth mercy.
-
So it's not of anything that we do, it's of God that that chose us out.
-
Over in um let's see Galatians four and five, four, four and four.
-
But when the fullness of time was come, God sent forth his son, made of a woman, made under the law, to redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
-
And because ye are sons, God has sent forth the spirit of his son into your hearts crying of a Father.
-
Therefore there are no more servant but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.
-
How wonderful that it is that we can be an heir of God in a joint heir with with Christ because of that adoption.
-
And in Ephesians over here, it it clarifies that even a little more.
-
Ephesians one and four.
-
He says, according as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love, having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Christ Jesus to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, to the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he has made us accepted in the beloved, in whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins according to the riches of his grace.
-
How wonderful that is.
-
It's also all that his works, what he's done, and not us.
-
So he predestinated those that would be adopted, all those that he chose out before the foundation of the world.
-
Now, I want to look just a minute at the at the uh natural side of adoption.
-
My law partner before he died, he and I took in a young partner, and his one of his main areas of practice was adoption, where he would uh represent a loving couple that wanted to adopt this child, take them into their home and raise them and love them.
-
And uh one thing about that adoption, you're gonna remember when those parents adopt that child, they choose that child.
-
It's not an accident, it's it's uh not happenstance.
-
They choose that child.
-
We want that child to be our child.
-
And so there's a little, and and I always thought that's one of the most uh worthwhile things I think that lawyers can do.
-
We we we lawyers catch a lot of flack for things a lot of them do, but I think that's a very uh worthy thing that that they do is finding children.
-
I I've been called on to represent the children to make sure that they're going into a good home.
-
It's got to be it's got to be both ways.
-
But there's a little um variance here in our law, and I'm not talking about Moses' law, I'm talking about now our natural law that we are under, that an adopted child can inherit from their natural parents, their natural mother and father.
-
But they can also inherit from their adopted parents, mother and father.
-
And I'm thinking in our spiritual sense, how wonderful that is, brother Bill.
-
That's a savor right there.
-
Let's look over here and um right quick, I'll I'll try to wind this up over here in Romans 5.
-
5 and 12.
-
Well, let me just say that when we know that when Adam disobeyed God's commandment there in the garden, laid of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, he sinned, he was he suffered eternal separation from God.
-
Adam sinned, and all that sin was passed on all generations.
-
So we all became sinners because we're all the sons of Father Adam, the first Adam.
-
So here well, let me see.
-
I heard brother Brother Bill quote this the other day, and I've heard Brother Jesse Bass say it many times.
-
He says, What we inherited from from Adam was a sin debt, a debt that we can't pay.
-
We we can't there's no way we can save ourselves from our sins.
-
And uh what Bill said, and Brother Jesse said, it says we're 10,000 talents in debt and not a farthing to pay.
-
Well, I tried to follow up on that, and uh a talent was a was a measure and a weight, and they uh they used it for gold and for silver, and I'm not sure how many ounces or whatever it was.
-
I wasn't able to find that.
-
But a farthing, the the Romans had a coin that was a half penny, a half cent.
-
And a farthing was half of a half penny.
-
So that was not very much, but it doesn't make any difference because it says we don't even have a farthing.
-
We don't even have that.
-
We're 10,000, whatever that is, it's a bunch of them, it's 10,000 that we're in debt, and we don't have a farthing to pay.
-
So if we had if we were limited to what we had inherited from our father Adam, we would be lost.
-
But see what it says here in the in Romans 5 and 12.
-
Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin, you know, we know the wages of sin is death, so death passed upon all men, for all have sinned.
-
But as the offense, so also is the free gift.
-
For if through if through the offense of one many be dead, much more through grace of God and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, has abounded unto many.
-
Doesn't say to all, but to many.
-
He says, For as by one man's disobedience we were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
-
We didn't just receive the inheritance from Father Adam, we received the inheritance from Christ Jesus, our adopted Father.
-
For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
-
Moreover, the law entered that the offense might abound, but where sin abounded, grace did much more abound.
-
That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.
-
You know, we sang that song, Jesus paid it all.
-
He paid all of that sin debt that we owe.
-
He didn't leave a little bit for he didn't make a down payment and leave something for us to do.
-
He paid it all, all the debt I owe.
-
So we're so thankful that while we inherited sin from the first Adam, we inherited righteousness and grace and life from the last Adam, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
-
I'm so thankful that we can inherit from him and we're not left with heritage from Adam.
-
Thank you for your time.
-
I'm so glad he ended that with that.
-
Where sin did abound, grace did much more abound.
-
Laws of mathematics are that anything times zero is still zero.
-
That quarter of a penny, multiply it by zero, and you still have zero.
-
What a great truth.
-
That uh that just really in its simplicity, it's grand to understand that simple principle is that we inherited an abounding sin, but we also inherited a m a greater abounding of mercy and grace by the Lord Jesus Christ.
-
I think Paul probably knew that as well as anybody, or well, or maybe more than anybody, as he would he would know just how abounding his sin had been against a thrice holy God that dealt with him on the road to Damascus and made him uh uh alive in Christ and and had set him apart as a vessel, a chosen vessel, to go and preach that simple doctrine, that a doctrine of adoption, which is so I don't understand why he would do it.
-
And then would I don't I don't think we're called on to understand how uh great that gift is to take you from your old polluted dead family and bring you into his living, spiritual, eternal being.
-
I I I don't understand that kind of love, but that's that's the kind of love.
-
That's behold, what manner of love the Father has bestowed upon you.
-
He chose you, just like Brother Jimmy, a lawyer.
-
What what a great work that is.
-
You you're one of the good ones.
-
We'll we'll we'll trust you.
-
Uh but that he's speaking from experience.
-
That's I'm sure that's one of the most rewarding parts of that kind of work is when you can bring that family together.
-
And I got a nephew that's adopted sons, and that that's that's a wonderful, wonderful experience.
-
But to understand that God has adopted us into his family, both by legal proceeding, by the justification of the blood of his son, but also of the birth of the new birth, of him giving of his self, his spirit, putting that within you, his adopted child, and then giving you the hope of that adoption.
-
He gave us the spirit of adoption, and we cry by that spirit of adoption, but someday we're going to see the fulfillment of that adoption when he raises that body and he brings home that which he has adopted: body, soul, and spirit, all together united in perfection and standing before him in peace and love.
-
What a great subject to think upon.
-
Um this morning I've had a thought.
-
Um it's in the in the ending of Deuteronomy.
-
Deuteronomy is the second giving of the law.
-
This is uh Gen 2 of the Jews, the generation two.
-
Uh the first generation had balked at River Jordan and took the words of ten spies that brought forth a discouraging message of defeat, and God was wroth with them and turned them back into a land where they would wander for forty years.
-
Moses was eighty years old whenever they balked at the river, when they uh would not go in, though they had two of their own men, Joshua and Caleb bearing a cluster of grapes, one cluster of grapes.
-
And I'll tell you, that's a in my mind, that is a figure of the fruit of the spirit.
-
That is how I do I view the fruit, one cluster with many parts, but it was so great it took two men to bear that one cluster of grapes before the people and said, Look here, what God has said is true.
-
It is a land flowing with milk and honey, it is a place that's been planted, and you won't have to plant it.
-
Go in and take it, we can do it.
-
God is before us, and He will fight the battle and we will conquer.
-
The other said, No.
-
We're like grasshoppers in their eyes.
-
We're we're nothing.
-
It's just insurmountable.
-
We cannot go we cannot go over.
-
Our kids will die over there.
-
They use their children as leverage of excuse that we'll not go over because of the kids.
-
God angry and turned them around.
-
They said, No, we'll go in.
-
No, you're not going in.
-
You're not going in.
-
You're going to wander for forty years.
-
Your carcass will fall in that wilderness.
-
That's the subject matter of chapter three of Hebrews.
-
That's when they uh they stirred the wrath of God and they would not enter in to that land of rest because of their unfaithfulness.
-
God turned them around.
-
Anyone twenty years and older would fall in the wilderness, except for Joshua and Caleb.
-
Even Moses would fall eventually before going in.
-
We'll see that in a moment.
-
But there's a there's a special thing about him on that.
-
They would wander for forty years, and just as God had said their those twenty years and older had fallen.
-
You realize there were some nineteen-year-olds that had come through that Red Sea.
-
They had seen the mighty work of God.
-
They had felt that breeze that by the nostril of his breath, Mother Van had split that sea, and that they themselves either walked or was carried across that great Red Sea.
-
I believe it happened, just as the scripture says, They walked across on Dry Shah, and their enemies were closely coming behind them, and as they passed over and on to the shore, God released the water, and the water defeated and took away their enemy in that same Red Sea division.
-
It collapsed back upon them, and the chariots did sink, and that army was consumed of that Red Sea.
-
They're over on the dry rift on the dry ground, and they began their wander, and they cried for water, and God gave them a wonderful gift.
-
Moses go stand on that rock.
-
I'll be there by you.
-
I'll be there with you.
-
Smite that rock one time.
-
Smite that rock one time.
-
And Moses did as God said.
-
That's the important thing.
-
Moses did as God said.
-
He made it known that God would deliver them water from that rock.
-
Smote it one time, and water came from that rock and followed them.
-
Paul tells us that that rock was Christ.
-
Now they would wonder, and it would come up again that Moses was told to stand there to deliver water, and Moses was to stand there, and uh he was to present before them God as their deliverer and to speak to that rock.
-
To speak to the rock, not smart it, but speak speak to it.
-
Moses in his man self, Moses Moses saw a lot of things through his lifetime.
-
God's hand had been upon him in so many ways.
-
Even at the time of his birth, God delivered him in an ark there upon the river of Nile.
-
And even the house in the time when they were uh euthanizing the babies, killing the babies, the boy babies, that this one, this one escaped by the mighty hand of God, and the even Pharaoh's daughter, I believe, took him in and adopted him.
-
Adopted to herself.
-
God's hand was on Moses there, even from his youth.
-
And Moses was under the hand of God all the time that he was in Egypt and God raised him up to become a great one in Pharaoh's house.
-
But it came time when Israel, their cries were heard in their ears of God.
-
Think of that great mercy.
-
Whenever they're under the task makers and they're overcome with the overbearingness of their task makers, even to the point of making it harder for them to do their job, not giving them the straw that would make it be easier to do their job, but resisting them in every way and oppressing them in every way.
-
And the people's cry went up.
-
The people's cry went up, and God heard their cries.
-
And it's time to leave.
-
And God sent Moses down into Egypt.
-
I'm passing a lot of things, but God heard their cries and delivered them a deliverer.
-
And he told him, Go down and tell Pharaoh to let my people go.
-
Let my they're mine.
-
They're mine.
-
I am their God and they are my people.
-
Let my people go.
-
And Moses went down, and that is where God showed his mighty hand in the conquering of the ways of Pharaoh.
-
In many ways, my friends, overcoming all the logic and the ideas of man were overcome and overshadowed by the mighty hand of God.
-
Everything that they tried to do, God's more abounded upon them.
-
God delivered them over, and here Moses is told to speak to that rock.
-
Moses in his presumptuousness said, How many times must we?
-
And you you go look at that, and you'll find Moses puts himself in the mighty work.
-
My friend, God forbid that we put ourselves in the work of the mighty hand of God.
-
God does not need my help.
-
God does not need me to do something on his behalf.
-
My friend, God lets me do things to serve him.
-
God said, Speak to the rock.
-
And he said, How many times must we fetch water?
-
What Moses failed, what he failed in, my friends, and it was a serious failure.
-
A serious one.
-
He did not sanctify God before the people's eyes.
-
He did not say, How many times must God deliver you?
-
How many times must God have to show you again his mighty hand?
-
No, he put himself, How many times must we fetch water?
-
Moses, you never fetched a drop of water.
-
You didn't divide that sea, you just held out the rod, and God did the work, God did the lifting.
-
But he failed to sanctify God before the people.
-
My friends, I want to always be careful to give God the glory for anything that we ever do in service to him.
-
If we ever do anything of any righteousness at all, it's because it's Him in us doing that good work.
-
It said, work out your own salvation with fear and truly, for it is God, for it is God that worketh in you both to weal and to do of his good pleasure.
-
My friends, we are to work out good works.
-
We are to be careful to make good works, but we are to understand our only good is in the imputed righteousness of Christ within us.
-
Moses would live another forty years traveling with the children of Israel, leading them around as they circled in the wilderness.
-
They circled in the wilderness.
-
After they had all after that 40 years was up, and many carcasses, all those carcasses fell.
-
It's time now for the transition.
-
It's time now for the transition.
-
The 33rd verse, the 33rd chapter of Deuteronomy.
-
It's that one chapter after God said he found Jacob in a desert land, a waste hell and wilderness, led him about and kept him as the apple of his eye.
-
God had kept them all the way through that journey.
-
He didn't just thrust them out into the wilderness and let them be.
-
He didn't send his adopted children out into that wilderness to fend for themselves.
-
But if an what he did is he rained manna down.
-
Every day for six days it would rain manna.
-
And they would go out every morning.
-
The faithfulness of God is shown all around as they pick up those little coriander seeds.
-
I don't know exactly what that was, but they would take that manna and they would make bread.
-
And they were fed with the manna and they were provided the water from the rock.
-
You know, one point of notice Moses did wrong, smiting that rock twice when he was told to speak to the rock.
-
Christ only needed to be smitten once.
-
He does not need to be smitten over and over again.
-
We just speak to that rock.
-
We speak of that rock.
-
We speak about that rock.
-
We tell the story of that rock.
-
That rock which is Christ.
-
Speak to it.
-
You know what happened, even though he smote the rock twice, and I think the reason he smote it twice is that he smote it once and nothing happened.
-
That was not the way it happened last time.
-
I think I'll try it again.
-
Smite it the second time.
-
You know, that second time it wasn't because Moses smote it the second time that water came out of that rock.
-
It came out of that rock, Brother John, because God is merciful to his people.
-
God is merciful to his people to give them the drink, even though that preacher or that or that man of God is wrong in what he does.
-
He still gave them drink.
-
He still showed his mercy.
-
Okay, here we are, 33rd chapter.
-
Moses has seen a lot of things in his life.
-
He had seen many miracles and wonders.
-
He had been up on the mountain.
-
He had seen the face of God.
-
He had communed with God.
-
He had seen the burning bush.
-
He had done all those things in his lifetime as he'd come across.
-
He had walked with them.
-
He had picked up that manna.
-
He had seen the hand of God as it fed him with quail that they were asking for.
-
God had been merciful to them.
-
He even saw the cluster of grapes.
-
But that's kind of far off.
-
He saw that cluster of grapes that was brought back.
-
Here he is in the 33rd chapter.
-
You you find that the 33rd chapter begins with um I guess it let's see.
-
Uh 20 25 verses of that chapter has to do with Moses at 120 years old.
-
I know that because he's gonna die just a moment.
-
He's 120 years old.
-
40 years in Egypt, 40 years delivering them in the wilderness, uh uh, and uh now he has lived to that old age of 120.
-
But you know one thing about Moses is God had spared him as his leader to lead them about.
-
Moses brought the law.
-
It said the law came by Moses, it came by the hand of Moses as it were.
-
God gave him the law, but Moses delivered it.
-
But God had prevailed uh he had providentially kept Moses to where it says that his physical force was not abated.
-
He was his eyes were not dimmed.
-
I think the scripture says it, his eyes were not dimmed, and his physical force was not abated.
-
He was he was a uh upright, strong man at a hundred and twenty years old, as he was in his prime.
-
He had he had lived and gone, and he was a fit man.
-
He was a fit man to lead God's people.
-
But Moses Moses had made that error at Maribah, and for that reason he would not go over Jordan.
-
He would not pass the shores of that river.
-
They're in Moab.
-
They're in Moab right now.
-
And Moses uh it says this uh twenty-six verse, there is none like unto the God of Jeshuan who rideth upon the heaven in thy help and in his excellence on the sky.
-
The eternal God is thy refuge.
-
The eternal God, and there's a lot in that just to think about the eternal God.
-
The eternal God, which is the ancient of days, the one that was before time and will be after time.
-
He is God and he's never changed.
-
He is God and He's not lost one bit of power.
-
He has not diminished in any way.
-
He declared, he declaring the end from the beginning.
-
He is able to choose those that he loved before the foundation of the world.
-
The eternal God that knew you as his child and put his mark upon you.
-
You're his and he's gonna adopt you before the world began.
-
He didn't have to wait for you to be, he already adopted you by that spirit of adoption, that that covenant adoption already, and it is so firm and so fixed, he predestinated to the adoption of children.
-
How did he engraved you upon the palms of his hands?
-
That's scripture.
-
You're graven upon the palms of his hands.
-
You're just that close.
-
Brother Van, he can look at you.
-
You know, sometimes people say he knows you as good as the back of the hand.
-
He knows you as good as the palm of the hand because you're graven.
-
You're not written upon his hand, you're graven upon the palms of his hand.
-
You're cut in to the palm of his hand.
-
That they'd have to take the engraving out to remove you.
-
No man can pluck you out of his hand.
-
He is the eternal God, and he is thy refuge.
-
Moses is in Moab.
-
Moab is where uh uh Roman, which is one of the cities of refuge that will be at some point when they set them up.
-
But it means height.
-
So they're they're in the highlands.
-
They're in a place where there's gonna be a high place.
-
I gotta get on with it.
-
Now, the eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath, underneath are the everlasting arms, and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee, and shall say, Destroy them.
-
This is about they're about to go over Jordan, they're about to go into the land of Canaan, and Moses is telling them, God is your refuge.
-
He's going to take care of the enemy.
-
This is a replay of what they did not do in the beginning when they when they balked at the river.
-
Now he's telling them, The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are his everlasting arms.
-
He's got you above as a refuge, and he's got you beneath.
-
He's got you covered above and beneath.
-
He's got you covered in eternity and here.
-
He's your he's the everlasting arms.
-
Israel then shall dwell in safety alone, and the fountain of Jacob shall be upon a land of corn and wine, and also his heavens shall drop down to you.
-
My friend, that's a picture of a future refuge.
-
The church.
-
The church is the city of refuge because it's a city where God meets with his people, where Christ sends that Holy Spirit, who he is our refuge, and he is those underlying arms holding us up.
-
And he drops that dew as the gospel drops as the dew of rain that gently waters his garden, his place.
-
You see, the dew doesn't rain like rain, it drops with a tenderness upon our hearts and we hear the gospel.
-
And then he says this, the third thing.
-
He says, Happy art thou, O Israel.
-
Happy art thou.
-
It's a happy place when we're with the Lord.
-
Was it not happy, dear friends, when we experienced two weekends ago when the Lord showed his spirit so vividly?
-
Was it not sweet as we felt that dew coming down?
-
Was it not sweet when we felt the fellowship?
-
When we felt his holiness, when we felt his shelters for us, when he manifested himself, when he showed himself, we're in the fortress, we're in the refuge that he's provided.
-
Happy art thou.
-
Here's Moses saying this to the children of Israel.
-
He is about to go away, but he's telling them these things right here.
-
Happy art thou, O Israel.
-
Who is like unto thee, O people, saved by the Lord?
-
Saved by the Lord.
-
There's so much in that.
-
We've all gone through our manifestation of a wilderness.
-
We all keep walking in a dry, dusty land.
-
But he still that manna that comes down.
-
Not manna like they uh ate in the wilderness, uh, not like that that they picked up off the ground, but that manna that came down and comes into your heart when you hear the gospel being preached, when you feel that spirit being given, when you feel those uh everlasting arms embracing you, uh dear friends, that is the time when you'll find true happiness in this world.
-
Happiness.
-
Oh ye art thou, O Israel, who is slacken to thee, O people saved by the Lord, and the shield of thy hell.
-
And who is the sword of thy excellency?
-
He's the shield of thy hell and the sword of thy excellency.
-
We heard about the shield and the sword, my friend, pick the armor that has been given to us.
-
We put on the whole armor of God and we pick up that shield of faith and we take that sword of the sword of the spirit and we go to our battles that we have to go through.
-
We come out of that wilderness and we come into the house of God and we find true happiness.
-
And thine enemies shall be found liars under thee.
-
They're exposed.
-
Those enemies are exposed.
-
All their lies become evident.
-
It's so many of the heresies of this world, my friends, are dispelled by the true gospel.
-
It defeats all the lies.
-
All the lies are just made plain.
-
That's a lie.
-
You gotta help God to get in favor with God.
-
That's a lie.
-
That's a lie.
-
And the truth dispells that.
-
You gotta love God and then he'll love you back.
-
No, my friend, that's a lie.
-
That's a lie.
-
We love him because he first loved us.
-
My friend, his gospel.
-
It defeats our enemies, and we stand in the firmness of his refuge and under the embrace of his everlasting art.
-
Happy art thou, O people saved of the Lord.
-
What a great place to be.
-
One more thing.
-
I know it's just about time.
-
I know that clock's a little fast, so I got a moment or two.
-
Because now I want to talk about the transition.
-
Moses now has delivered this great farewell message to the children of Israel.
-
120 years old.
-
He's strong as an ox and sea like an eagle.
-
My friends, it's come time for him to depart with this life.
-
You know, there's several old prophets.
-
Samuel, it says in one place, and Samuel died.
-
A weep when I think of that scene.
-
And Samuel died.
-
Samuel had been used by God in so many mighty, wondrous ways, that Samuel would face Saul and say, God would have obedience more than sacrifice.
-
Tell a sitting king now.
-
And a king that was not so nice.
-
But he'd say, God would have obedience more than sacrifice.
-
You've offended God.
-
That's quite a that's quite a mess.
-
But Samuel died.
-
Samuel died.
-
Here it is.
-
And Moses went up from the plain of Moab unto the mount of Nebo.
-
To the top of Pisch.
-
That is over against Jericho.
-
Just across the river.
-
Get a scene here of the mount.
-
There's the river Jordan.
-
And there's Moab's on the east.
-
It's the east side.
-
Jericho is just over the river on the west side.
-
Well, he's over here on the east in Moab, and he goes upon Mount Nebog to uh the top of Piscah.
-
He's in the heights.
-
That is over against Jericho.
-
The Lord showed him all the land of Gilead unto Dan.
-
From Gilead unto Dan.
-
Now looking east and looking west.
-
He sees all that land.
-
This is this is a vantage point.
-
I've been on some mountains where you could see a long way off.
-
We went upon one place we could see all the way into Yellowstone from way down in Utah.
-
I mean, we could see a long way.
-
It was probably a much longer way than even this site, because Israel's not a very big place.
-
It's not that big a country.
-
But he could see all the way from the east to the west.
-
Dan's over on the west coast.
-
He could see all that side.
-
He could visualize it.
-
No, no looking at a cluster of grapes that's brought out of it.
-
But now he is standing here on this high place, and he could see.
-
I see from the Gilead all the way to Dan.
-
Why am I here?
-
I'm here to see the promise that God made.
-
To see that fulfillment of that promise.
-
And all Naphtali and the land of Ephraim and Manasseh and all the land of Judah.
-
I submit to you, he could see every one of the six cities of refuge.
-
If they had been started at that point.
-
But they weren't, not yet.
-
They weren't established yet because they hadn't conquered it.
-
They hadn't conquered the promised land.
-
But where they were, he could see all the way from Nathalia way up there of Goled, Golan, way up there in the north.
-
You heard of Golan Heights?
-
That's where that was, way up there in that the top part, all the way down there past Judah.
-
He could see the east to the west to the north to the south.
-
He got a glimpse, Brother Lorne, of the whole thing in one time, in one moment.
-
He could see all of it at one time.
-
Remember, God said you're not going over.
-
You're not going to enter into it.
-
But let's just watch here.
-
And the south and the plains of the valley of Jericho and the city of the plains of the trees unto Zora.
-
And the Lord said unto him, This is the land.
-
Here it is.
-
All that all that coming out of Egypt, all that wandering in the wilderness, and for forty years you missed this.
-
They've missed this.
-
This was already here.
-
It was already there.
-
And they could they could have gone into it and they missed it because they they did not obey what God said.
-
He said, This is the land which I swear unto Abraham and unto Isaac and unto Jacob, saying, I will give it unto thy seed.
-
I will cause thee, and I have caused thee to see it with thine eye.
-
But thou shalt not go over.
-
I had the idea that God didn't let Moses go over into Canaan because he represented the law and the law wouldn't have a part of the church and all that.
-
I recount that.
-
I throw that away.
-
Because you know what?
-
The law went into Canaan.
-
The law went in there, not only the law went in there, but they built a temple in Canaan.
-
So the law could go in.
-
But Moses did not go in because he had disobeyed what God said.
-
It was such an important issue that God be sanctified, that we set God apart, that we make sure we understand we don't take credit for what God does, and that we only take credit for what God said to do when God helps us and gives us the wherewithal to do it, and we do it, and we follow by faith.
-
My friend, it's all the glory goes back to God.
-
He is to be sanctified in our hearts, he is to be set apart and seen holy.
-
He is the holy one, but he says, You'll not go over.
-
I have caused thee to see it with thine eye.
-
Thou shalt not go over hither.
-
But do you know what is you might say, well the boy, that's that's very harsh.
-
God is righteous in what he does.
-
Do you know what God is also?
-
He is merciful to his servant Moses to let him see all that beauty of that land.
-
Oh, it's not a figment.
-
It's not a made-up fable.
-
It's not just a grand wish someday that it'll be.
-
There it is.
-
See it with your eyes, Moses.
-
Experience at least with thine eye.
-
You see what I promise it's there.
-
What you see there is what I said it was.
-
It's a land flowing milk and honey.
-
And it's a land that I gave to Abraham.
-
And they would go over.
-
And here's here's kind of, I guess I should have kind of led with this.
-
But Moses did not go over.
-
But he says, and Moses, the servant of the Lord, died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the Lord, and he buried him in the valley in the land of Moab over against Beth Peor.
-
But no man knoweth of his sepulchre unto this day.
-
You know, God in his great wisdom knows, knew that if they knew where Moses was buried, first of all, somebody probably go dig him up.
-
Next thing they'd worship that spot.
-
They'd make an idol out of that place, like men have done to things like Mecca and other places.
-
Even Jerusalem, they they make an idol out of that.
-
But he hid Moses in that land.
-
And Moses was 120 years old when he died.
-
His eyes were not dimmed, nor his natural force abated.
-
And the children of Israel wept for Moses in the plain of Moab thirty days.
-
So the days of weeping and mourning for Moses were ended.
-
And Joshua, the son of Nun, was full of the spirit and of wisdom, for Moses had laid his hand, hands upon him, and the children of Israel hearkened unto him and did as the Lord commanded Moses.
-
Joshua was raised up to take the place of leadership for the children of Israel to go over.
-
And he did.
-
He is a figure, my friends, of the Lord Jesus Christ.
-
Jesus comes from the same word that renders down to Joshua, meaning deliverer.
-
And Joshua, my friends, led them across that river on dry shod, raised up those those stones of remembrance of what he had done there.
-
Joshua led them through the battles and conquered the enemies by the hand of God, who had who not only kept his promise to get them to the promised land, but he kept his promise fighting the battle, defeating their enemies, and giving them the land flowing with milk and honey.
-
Our friends, the Lord hath given them that land.
-
A place flowing with milk and honey, a place that is planted and we didn't plant it.
-
A place that is bountiful with fruit that we didn't give.
-
We just come in and we reap the things that God has given us.
-
And we give him all the praise and the glory, for he deserves every praise of every breath that we could ever breathe.
-
We have that saying in the scripture, in him we live, move, and have our being.
-
What a great Lord of deliverance.
-
That great adopting Savior that adopted us into his family, gave his life for payment for our adoption, and gave us a home to look forward to.
-
Someday, my friends, we're going to cross over and we're not going to just see it.
-
We're going to live in there.
-
We can see it by an eye of faith.
-
But someday, Brother Jimmy, we're crossing over, and we're going to inhabit that land that God has promised to his people.
-
I thank you for your attention this morning.
