  1. All right, so we're going to talk about life after death. I think there will be two parts.

  2. Life after death. The first part is life after death here on earth, and the second part will

  3. hopefully be life after death when there's a new heaven on earth. Today we will be talking

  4. about life after death here on earth, meaning the Bible actually says, I have been crucified

  5. with Christ, I no longer live. So there is eternal life that we get to taste here, and

  6. then there is a life after we physically die. What does heaven and what does the rest of

  7. eternity look like? We'll probably touch on that next week. But today we're going

  8. to first start with what has been put to death. What has been put to death. And then

  9. we'll talk about what has been brought to life. And today though, we'll be looking

  10. at it more in terms of, have you been to your funeral yet? Have you been to your funeral

  11. yet? So if this was an altar, there are certain things that have been put to death that we

  12. can't continue raising back to life. It's just wrong. I want to put an end to the things

  13. that I give life back to and Jesus actually put them to death. And I'm praying that we'll

  14. all be able to settle some things that's dead. You know, in India, I read this story long

  15. ago, there was a man who in the India Pakistan war was taken as a prisoner of war. And so

  16. for years he was in prison in Pakistan and then Pakistan released him and he came back

  17. to India. When he came back to India, his older brother had taken all his property and

  18. he had bribed the city officials and had bribed them and rendered the younger brother dead.

  19. So now the younger brother comes back and he wants his property back. But he can't take

  20. his property back because he is dead. So he goes to the city council and he says, but

  21. I'm alive. And they say, but I record show you're dead. And they refuse to give him the land.

  22. But he said, I'm alive. But they said, no, you're dead. Because they had been bribed and they

  23. wouldn't accept it. So when the premier of the province came to the city one day, he called

  24. four of his friends and he told his friends to carry him on their shoulders like a dead body.

  25. So it was like a funeral, like a coffin. And he was in the coffin and the premier's preaching.

  26. And these four would keep taking him up and down when the premier's preaching. And every time the

  27. cameras were on him, he would sit up from the coffin and said, I'm not dead. I'm alive. I'm not

  28. dead. I'm alive. And he kept doing this about five, six times to the point where the television

  29. people got interested, the media got interested. Finally, the city began to take note of the

  30. premier stopped his preaching. They called him, they asked him what was wrong. He explained it to

  31. them. And then he finally got his land back. Why this story? It has absolutely no connection with

  32. what we're going to talk about. It was just something that occurred to me. So there is no

  33. moral there. So Tony was waiting for the punch line. Yeah, there's no punch line. So here's the

  34. thing. There are certain things that sit up from the coffin and keep saying, I'm alive. And we've

  35. got to make sure it's dead forever. We can't give life to it. So what is the first, one of the things

  36. that has been put to death is strangely you. Your old self has been put to death. If you have received

  37. Christ, your old self has been put to death. I know you know this from Christ's life, so I won't

  38. label the point too much, but it says that if you have received Christ who died on the cross in your

  39. place, then it is like you dying. Your old self, your old man, the sinful self dying. Galatians 2 20.

  40. I have been crucified with Christ. I no longer live. Vivek, I'm going to use you as an example

  41. because you're wearing a bright red hoodie. Oh yeah, yeah.

  42. Vivek will spend most of this teaching here dead. Yeah. Don't try this at home.

  43. Oh no, dead. Oh dead. I've also done this before.

  44. Don't snore and stuff like that. Yeah. So one of the things is that you have been put to death.

  45. When you say your old self has been put to death, what you're saying is every desire you have to live

  46. a life contrary to the life of Christ is actually dead. It does not exist. This is not

  47. some kind of positional thing that will happen in the future. It is our present reality. Galatians

  48. 2 20. He has been crucified with Christ. He no longer lives.

  49. He no longer lives. If you want to find the old Vivek, you'll have to go

  50. start scrounging at the garbage heap in Jerusalem

  51. called Gehenna where the bodies of people that were crucified were thrown.

  52. And you will find him there. You will find him there. You will find the old self, the Vivek that

  53. his mum gave birth to. That old man, you will find him in Gehenna, in Jerusalem if you go and look

  54. for the garbage heap there. That's where you'll find him. He does not exist. This Vivek

  55. only has one life in him and that is the life of Christ. No other life.

  56. It is not normal for him, natural for him to get angry, to feel jealousy, to feel bitterness,

  57. to feel envy. It is not natural. It is abnormal for him.

  58. We must receive this as our present reality. These are things that you have to decide. You're

  59. going to lay on the altar and you will not have him come up and suddenly say, I'm alive. I'm alive.

  60. No, he's dead. At some point today, please decide that you're not going to fuel this.

  61. You can read as many books as you want that tell you otherwise, but Christ said otherwise.

  62. Do you have any questions about that?

  63. Any questions about that? Is the old man really dead?

  64. If you want to question that, this is a good time to question this.

  65. Is the old man really dead? Is the old Jacob really dead? Does he exist?

  66. Because here's the crazy thing. If he exists, then Christ's death does not have the power

  67. that he says it does. That's impossible. I have been, I was crucified with Christ.

  68. She's been baptized before, so why is she getting baptized again? Because when she got baptized the

  69. first time, it was just for the sake of baptism. She did not believe as such. She's getting into

  70. that place of belief where this is exactly what she will portray in baptism, where she's saying

  71. the old Yesuri is dead. Christ lives in Yesuri. Therefore, as I go into the water, the old Yesuri

  72. is buried. The one that comes out is new and that new Yesuri only has the life of Christ.

  73. The old Yesuri is done.

  74. So if you have no questions, can I pray that this is settled once and for all,

  75. somewhere deep inside our psyche? Let's pray that. Jesus, we right now believe

  76. that the old Don, the old Iris, the old Jacob, the old Jillian, the old Yesuri, the old Sheldon

  77. no longer exist because the moment we received Jesus Christ as the one who died to save us,

  78. the Bible says when he died on the cross as a payment for our sins, we also died with him.

  79. And when he rose again from the grave, we also rose up.

  80. So, I believe this. I am not going to say that I'm just human. No.

  81. We all sin. None of us are perfect. No. Those kind of words are going to end.

  82. All of it may be true, but the real truth is this. Christ alone lives in me and I have the

  83. ability to live out his life, which is how we change. People here are changed because they are

  84. living the life of Christ more and more. So we give you thanks, Abba, in Jesus' name. Amen.

  85. Vivek, you can sit up here front in case I need you to die again.

  86. The next thing that was destroyed, the first one was you. The second one is the power of death.

  87. We touched on it last week, so I'll just read you the scripture. Hebrews chapter 2, verse 14 and 15.

    Hebrews 2:14

  88. Hebrews chapter 2, verse 14 and 15. So many things went into Jesus Christ coming down to the earth

    Hebrews 2:14

  89. in flesh. Here's one of the things he did in coming down to the earth in flesh. Hebrews chapter 2,

    Hebrews 2:14

  90. verse 14 and 15. Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity

  91. so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death, that is the devil,

  92. and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by the fear of death. What is he trying

  93. to say there? Listen, guys, do not be afraid of dying. Do not be afraid of dying. Do not be

  94. afraid of death. Do not be afraid of Satan who used to use the power of death upon people and

  95. still does. And do not be afraid of death anymore. The story that I often share at funerals is about

  96. this boy who is driving with his dad and a bee comes into the car and the boy panics and says,

  97. the bee is going to sting me. And the dad goes, grabs the bee and the bee stings his hand. And

  98. then the dad releases the bee and says to the boy, don't worry, it won't harm you anymore. But

  99. the boy says, you let the bee go, you should have killed it. And the dad says, once it stings,

  100. it cannot sting again because the sting now is embedded in the dad's hand and it doesn't have

  101. the power to do you any harm. And so death might be around on the earth. Of course it is. But it has

  102. absolutely no sting for us. The message puts it this way.

  103. Who are you anymore? Death? Why be afraid of you? Because you have been swallowed up in triumphant

  104. life. If you are afraid of dying in this room, if the fear of death occasionally comes,

  105. and we'll pray for it right now,

  106. that we'll never be afraid of dying. Death is an enemy. Do not look at death as a friend.

  107. Do not say stuff like, oh, we all have to die because if we didn't die, we would not be able

  108. to go to heaven. That's costuming death. There's nothing about death that is friendly. It was not

  109. supposed to be part of the equation of the earth and it will not be part of the new heaven and new

  110. earth. It's an enemy. It's one of the worst enemies which will be dealt with in the end. In the end,

  111. death and Hades were dealt with. It is prevalent right till the end. It is evil.

  112. So don't dress it up. That's like playing Halloween with Bible verses.

  113. So let's pray. Jesus, I don't know if there are people here who are afraid of dying.

  114. I don't know if there are people here that are born again, that have Jesus living in them,

  115. but are afraid of the event of death. Today, by the power of the Spirit of God present here,

  116. I pray that death be dealt a death blow so that the fear of death in this congregation will be

  117. broken. And we will not fear death. And many nightmares of death will be broken.

  118. And we will not fear death. And many nightmares will end. Many nightmares in this room will end.

  119. Many dreams about people dying will end today. I thank you, Holy Spirit, for the connections

  120. you are making. And I thank you and give you praise of God. We thank you that we are not

  121. afraid of death. One of the reasons we are not afraid of death is because Jesus Christ has a

  122. book and the book is called the Lamb's Book of Life, Revelation 13 verse 8. And my name,

    Revelation 13:8

  123. your name is written there. We are not afraid of death. And today, both nightmares and dreams of

  124. other people dying, of things happening in our families, death dreams are going to end.

  125. They will not continue in Jesus' name. Amen. The third thing that was put to death was

  126. appeasement. Appeasement. Christianity is the only religion where we don't have to appease God.

  127. Appeasing is to pacify someone's anger. Most religions have methods of appeasing God, pacifying

  128. God. Christianity is not an appeasement religion. We think it's appeasement. Atonement is not

  129. appeasement. Many times when people come from other religions into Christianity, one of the

  130. things that happens is they think that this God also has to be appeased. You might say,

  131. but didn't Jesus have to be sacrificed to appease God? Really? Hebrew says that he loved me and

  132. decided that he would lay down my life for me while I was still an enemy of his.

  133. That is atonement. It is not appeasement.

  134. Appeasement goes back a long way. Jacob is sending his herds and his cattle ahead of him,

  135. sending treasures. Why? Because he is scared that Esau is going to do him harm. What does Esau do?

  136. A man who was in a sense wicked according to Hebrews. Esau grabs him, kisses him, embraces him.

  137. Jacob wanted to appease. Esau showed love and grace. The same thing happens in Luke 15 verse 9

    Luke 15:9

  138. where you have a father who sees his son coming at a distance and the son has plans of appeasement.

  139. I don't even want to be a son. I just want to be a servant. What does the father do? He does exactly

  140. what Esau does. Goes running to him, grabs him, kisses him seven times, embraces him.

  141. You must not appease this God. Put appeasement to death.

  142. Even when you make mistakes and sin, appeasement reeks of legalism.

  143. Do not appease this God. You can please him, but do not appease him.

  144. That is why this idea of penance, of doing things to

  145. show God how serious we are about him. Any child that has to do that to appease his father is a child that is not loved.

  146. At the end of the day, things that were put to death were things that were put to death so that we would no longer be devotees,

  147. worshipers, believers, disciples, but that we would first be sons. A lot of things that are put to death is because of that.

  148. Because God does not want anything but sonship first. Everything else is after.

  149. Sons don't appease their fathers. Sons please their fathers.

  150. Fathers don't demand appeasement. Fathers atone or cover their children.

  151. So can we pray that?

  152. Jesus once again,

  153. we bring to the altar this sense somewhere deep inside that you are angry and now we need to do something

  154. to blunt or pacify or promise you something that will mitigate your anger. We are very sorry.

  155. Very sorry.

  156. I am sorry every time I've thought that I need to do something.

  157. I am sorry every time I've thought that I need to do something

  158. to spare myself.

  159. I am so sorry he who did not spare his son.

  160. Romans chapter 8. I am so sorry father.

    Romans 8 chapter mention

  161. Across this room, would you please see a repentant mumbling, we don't even know how to phrase it,

  162. but would you accept it as an offering and set us free from appeasement forever.

  163. In Jesus' mighty name. Amen.

  164. The next thing that he put to death is enmity.

  165. He destroyed enmity between us and him.

  166. We were rebellious, independent orphans

  167. that he now makes sons and highly favored.

  168. It's a huge transfer from rebellious, independent orphan Jacob

  169. to highly favored Jacob and my son Jacob.

  170. He destroys enmity.

  171. And therefore make sure that today we put to an end

  172. condemnation or a sense of abandonment in our lives.

  173. It's one of the most powerful instruments used in Christianity.

  174. It is used by our own guilt, it is used by Satan,

  175. it is used by pastors with the church,

  176. it is used by authors, it is used by parents.

  177. Condemnation has become such a part of who we are

  178. that it worms its way into everything

  179. and Christ goes so far to remove it.

  180. Condemnation is the work of the accuser of the brethren.

  181. Today we've got to decide that condemnation and abandonment

  182. is something that we will not cause to rise again saying,

  183. I'm alive, I'm alive.

  184. It must end today.

  185. Because I've moved from being independent, rebellious and an orphan

  186. to highly favored Jacob and my son Jacob

  187. and what I have with God is a face-to-face relationship

  188. with a face that does not condemn.

  189. The truth is till today the face of God has not been creased

  190. with condemnation towards me

  191. regardless of the 40 or 42 years of sin and righteousness

  192. that I have weaved my way into.

  193. It has never been the case.

  194. Any person here that has the ability not to be condemned

  195. is a person that has finally absolutely received

  196. the benefits of his death.

  197. Do you realize that almost everybody in this room

  198. has not received the full benefits of Christ's death?

  199. We know the scriptures, therefore there is no condemnation

  200. for those who are in Christ.

  201. For the spirit of life in Christ has set us free.

  202. And yet there's not a single person in this room right now

  203. who today probably did not feel condemned about.

  204. Get back on the altar.

  205. We've got to put condemnation to death man.

  206. We've got to put this to death.

  207. This part of Vivek that condemns him,

  208. this part of Vivek that makes him feel condemned

  209. is a part of condemnation.

  210. This is a part of condemnation.

  211. This part of condemnation condemns him.

  212. This part of Vivek that makes him feel like

  213. he's an orphan again who's scared to go to his father.

  214. This part of Vivek that makes Vivek run from the face of God

  215. instead of running towards the face of God,

  216. that Vivek should not exist.

  217. It's wrong.

  218. It is one of the most wicked,

  219. most successful plots of the devil.

  220. As a pastor, I must stop doing it to you.

  221. As a parent, you must stop doing it to your children.

  222. As a teacher, the same thing.

  223. Please, displease, discipline.

  224. Can we even imagine discipline without condemnation?

  225. We don't know how to.

  226. We get a chance to do that, right?

  227. Eliakim doesn't have to go through it.

  228. Joey doesn't have to go through it.

  229. Timothy doesn't have to go through it.

  230. Thea doesn't have to go through it.

  231. They get a brand new start if you can get this right.

  232. So, Father, as much as this seems a little funny to put Vivek here,

  233. it is important that we have a visual, O God,

  234. of what we are putting to death.

  235. By the power of the Spirit, you said that you would accomplish this

  236. in the life of this church.

  237. And so right now, O God, I ask you to do this.

  238. So right now, O God, I come, as I pray,

  239. I pray on behalf of everybody because we share the same situations, Father.

  240. Father, there are so many times in a week

  241. where I struggle with condemnation.

  242. I've talked about you, I've told everybody you're a father,

  243. I tell everybody how loving you are,

  244. and then when I mess up, when I sin,

  245. more often than not, it's condemnation that comes in first

  246. before I run to you.

  247. I don't want it anymore.

  248. And so I pray on behalf of everybody here.

  249. I put to death this weapon.

  250. It has been used successfully against me.

  251. I remove the warhead.

  252. It will not affect me anymore.

  253. I am not a condemned one.

  254. I am a forgiven, restored one.

  255. Right, Church?

  256. We are forgiven and restored.

  257. We are not condemned ones.

  258. Spirit of God, would you help us seal this forever

  259. so that this Church will suddenly begin to change?

  260. I don't know what else to pray.

  261. So as I look at Vivek, I look at my condemnation

  262. lying dead.

  263. And I bury it, and I will not let it come back to life

  264. and be used against me anymore.

  265. In Jesus' name, Amen.

  266. Thanks Vivek.

  267. The power of sin.

  268. Scriptures for this, the power, animity is Colossians,

  269. animity, Colossians 1,

  270. 21 to 22.

  271. Let's just read it.

  272. Colossians 1, 21 to 22.

  273. And you who were once alienated and hostile in mind

  274. doing evil deeds, he has now reconciled in his body

  275. of flesh by his death in order to present you

  276. holy and blameless and above reproached in him.

  277. Look at the words he is using, eh?

  278. That, hey, you Vivek, Vivek, you, you, you,

  279. you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you,

  280. Vivek, you have been

  281. reconciled as in like an accountant who does the debit

  282. and credit columns and sees that the ledger balances.

  283. Everything within, between you and God is balanced.

  284. You are ready to be presented to God.

  285. You are holy.

  286. You are blameless.

  287. And you are above reproach.

  288. And all this is achieved by Jesus' death.

  289. Look at all that happens, guys.

  290. We've got to put it to rest.

  291. We can't keep going back here.

  292. Next thing that was broken.

  293. Was the power of sin.

  294. Power of sin.

  295. You see that in Romans 6,

  296. 16,

  297. 14,

  298. 11.

  299. Go back that way.

  300. Romans 6,

  301. 16.

  302. Do you not know that if you present yourself to anyone as

  303. obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey,

  304. either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience,

  305. which leads to righteousness?

  306. Verse 14, for sin will have no dominion over you,

  307. since you are not under the law, but under grace.

  308. And then verse 11, so you must consider yourself dead to sin

  309. and alive to God in Christ Jesus.

  310. For the sake of the recording, I'm going to repeat the stories

  311. because others will be listening to this in the future.

  312. Two examples.

  313. Last week we talked about how John was my slave.

  314. And as a slave, one day he doesn't turn up in time to serve me.

  315. I take a whip and I go to whip him.

  316. I find him on the ground.

  317. I whip him.

  318. He does not respond.

  319. I grab him by the throat and I recognize suddenly that he does not have a pulse.

  320. Last night John died.

  321. In his death, it doesn't matter how much I whip him now,

  322. he will not respond.

  323. In his death, he has escaped my mastery.

  324. In my dying with Christ, in Christ dying for me,

  325. I have escaped the mastery or the power of sin.

  326. It no longer has a hold over me.

  327. Another example.

  328. John has been drinking a lot of water.

  329. He goes to the doctor and says,

  330. Doctor, I've been drinking 10 liters of water.

  331. The doctor puts him on an x-ray machine and finds out

  332. that John has been eating the sponge in his mattress every night.

  333. And so every time he drinks water, the sponge absorbs the water.

  334. So the doctor comes out and he looks at John

  335. and John says, there's something wrong with me, right?

  336. And the doctor says, there's nothing wrong with you

  337. but there's something wrong in you.

  338. And so he opens John up, takes out the sponge, sews him up,

  339. John is back to normal, he now drinks two glasses of water a day.

  340. Or maybe that's not the right bit.

  341. Whatever is the right standard.

  342. He begins to drink the right amount of water a day.

  343. What happened?

  344. Someone took something out from within you.

  345. Christ did not die just for our sin actions.

  346. Christ died for our sin being.

  347. He crucified the old man.

  348. There is nothing in me.

  349. I do not have an engine of sin anymore.

  350. Every child knows how to do evil.

  351. No parent teaches.

  352. But for me, that engine of sin has been taken out forever.

  353. It has been laid to rest.

  354. It cannot be revived again.

  355. No more does any sin have power over me.

  356. It cannot.

  357. You feel my pulse?

  358. Sin cannot get me.

  359. It doesn't have mastery over me.

  360. I can choose to submit to it, but it can never subdue me.

  361. Sin can never subdue me.

  362. There is no temptation on earth that can take me.

  363. And should there be temptations that come my way,

  364. Jesus Christ will provide a way for me through that temptation.

  365. And one of the ways he provides a way for me through the temptation

  366. is by reminding me that it has no mastery over you.

  367. This is not some kind of mountain splitting path that he creates.

  368. What he does is brings the word to remembrance saying,

  369. Remember, you are no longer a slave to sin.

  370. The next thing that was put to death

  371. is the law.

  372. The law.

  373. This one is very prevalent in our lives, guys.

  374. How, you ask?

  375. Think of it like this.

  376. So you've got three stages that have happened on the earth.

  377. There was a time when there were no laws.

  378. So let's call it lawless,

  379. and then we call the next stage lawful,

  380. and then we call the next stage grace.

  381. The Bible talks about this.

  382. In Romans 5, 14, the Bible says,

  383. In Romans 5, 14, the Bible says,

  384. between Adam and Moses, there was no law.

  385. Adam had a law, do not eat of the tree.

  386. But between Adam and Moses, there was no law.

  387. But was sin prevalent?

  388. Yes, Romans 5, 14.

  389. So during the time when there was no law, there was still sin.

  390. But because there was no law, it was not counted against you.

  391. Just like you can drive in Germany,

  392. and you can drive at 120 yards, not counted against you.

  393. Why? Because there's no speed limit on the Autobahn.

  394. But were people still separated from God?

  395. Yes.

  396. Were they aware of God?

  397. No, they were quite unaware of God,

  398. because there was no law that showed a holy, righteous God.

  399. How did they live?

  400. They lived by their own righteousness.

  401. Or they lived by no righteousness.

  402. There was no standard of righteousness.

  403. This is still the way the world lives, guys.

  404. This is still the way the world lives.

  405. Even though they know what is right and wrong,

  406. they do not live by the law.

  407. It's called a lawless world.

  408. And so, are your sins...

  409. Yeah, next one, lawful.

  410. That's when the law came in.

  411. When the law came in, sin was still present?

  412. Was it counted against them?

  413. Yes!

  414. Every time they broke the law, it was counted against them.

  415. So what did they have to do?

  416. They had to make sure that their guilt

  417. had to be born and absolved.

  418. And that brought in the need for sacrifice.

  419. What else did they realize?

  420. They became aware of a very holy God.

  421. And what was their righteousness like?

  422. They had an inferior righteousness

  423. that was brought about by sacrifices.

  424. And you read about that in Philippians 3.9.

  425. In Philippians 3.9, it actually says,

  426. if I read the message, it says,

  427. I didn't want some petty inferior brand of righteousness

  428. that comes from keeping a list of rules

  429. that I could get the...

  430. I could get the robust kind that comes from trusting Christ,

  431. God's righteousness,

  432. which brings us into the place of grace.

  433. Grace.

  434. Does sin exist?

  435. Yes, it still exists.

  436. Is it counted against you?

  437. No!

  438. It's not counted against you.

  439. Where does that say it?

  440. 1 Corinthians 5.19.

  441. What else happens?

  442. Did I have guilt? Yes.

  443. But what happens to my guilt?

  444. It was born away.

  445. By who? By Christ.

  446. So what happens now?

  447. There is no condemnation.

  448. There is no separation.

  449. There is oneness with God.

  450. And there is the righteousness of God.

  451. So, where do you live?

  452. Where are you living?

  453. Where do we normally live?

  454. We don't live in the first one,

  455. but we are always caught between the second and the third.

  456. We still think our sins are counted against us.

  457. And the Bible says,

  458. if you are a sinner,

  459. you are not counted against.

  460. You are counted against.

  461. And the Bible says,

  462. in 1 Corinthians 5.19,

  463. that Christ does not count your sins against you.

  464. If he counted your sins against you,

  465. then you should feel condemned.

  466. Guys, this is such a mind shift

  467. that some of us are struggling

  468. to wrap our intellect around it

  469. and we won't be able to.

  470. Sorry?

  471. Second?

  472. Sorry?

  473. Second Corinthians 5.19, sorry.

  474. All things have passed away, the new has come.

  475. There is no separation.

  476. There is no separation.

  477. Actually, this brings us into oneness with God.

  478. And what kind of righteousness do we have?

  479. The very righteousness of God.

  480. Come on, man, we don't even think like this.

  481. We don't live like this.

  482. I want to think and live like this.

  483. Do you know in Romans chapter 7 what it says?

    Romans 7 chapter mention

  484. It says that if

  485. a woman is married to a man,

  486. she is bound by that law.

  487. But if

  488. she goes and marries another,

  489. she commits adultery.

  490. But if her husband dies,

  491. she is now free to marry another.

  492. You know what it's trying to say there?

  493. Jacob, you can't live in both.

  494. If you are married to the law,

  495. then you cannot marry Grace.

  496. That it will be an adulterous, incomplete,

  497. unsatisfying relationship.

  498. And I would like to say to all of us here

  499. that we get caught between these two.

  500. But what if Christ

  501. has put to death the law?

  502. Now you are free to marry

  503. that other woman and that other woman

  504. is called Grace.

  505. And under Grace, look what it says here.

  506. Guys, I'm in the same boat as you.

  507. I'm not trying to teach you.

  508. I'm trying to ask us to live like this.

  509. God wants to see a forgiven, restored

  510. people on earth and he hardly finds it.

  511. He finds a forgiven, restored

  512. people that walk in condemnation

  513. and sorrow

  514. and guilt.

  515. Look at what it says.

  516. During the time of Grace,

  517. is there sin? Yes.

  518. But is it counted against you?

  519. No. 2 Corinthians 5 19.

  520. Is it borne away? Yes.

  521. What does that do for you?

  522. There is no condemnation.

  523. And there is no separation between God and you.

  524. And you have the right to sister of God.

  525. Any questions guys?

  526. How do you relate condemnation and consequences?

  527. Yeah.

  528. How do you relate condemnation

  529. and consequences?

  530. My cousin

  531. who was here last week,

  532. she and her sister went to

  533. Victoria some years ago when they visited

  534. me. And

  535. they needed a phone.

  536. I went and borrowed a phone

  537. from a friend. It was a high end phone

  538. where you can

  539. in those days where you can type and all this stuff.

  540. I gave them the phone. They took the

  541. phone and they went to Victoria.

  542. They had a great day in Victoria.

  543. And on the way back when they boarded

  544. the ferry, they lost the phone.

  545. And the weight of losing

  546. a phone that

  547. belonged to somebody else that I would now have

  548. to compensate for was so immense

  549. that they decided they would not come back

  550. to Victoria. I'm thinking to myself when they told me

  551. where would you have gone?

  552. But they refused to take the ferry.

  553. They don't want to come home.

  554. Because that's the sense of condemnation

  555. they were feeling.

  556. And then somehow one of them

  557. gathered the ability

  558. to say

  559. after searching

  560. everywhere they finally called me from a phone

  561. booth and they said we just want

  562. you to know that we lost the phone.

  563. I said okay, what time is the ferry

  564. arriving? And they said the time

  565. and I went and picked them up

  566. and I didn't say a word about the phone.

  567. And

  568. they were surprised.

  569. They said aren't you worried? I said so you lost

  570. the phone and it's a friend's phone. I'll take care of it.

  571. So here's the thing. One

  572. there was under severe condemnation.

  573. Two, I did not condemn them.

  574. Three, I took the consequences.

  575. What we sometimes

  576. forget is that

  577. God just does not

  578. not condemn. He also

  579. took the consequences.

  580. We think that

  581. sure he has said no condemnation but

  582. surely we have to bear the consequences.

  583. Let's assume they went a second time to Victoria

  584. a third time to Victoria, fourth time to Victoria.

  585. And each time they lost the phone that

  586. belongs to Don and

  587. George and everyone else who has a Samsung.

  588. Now praise the Lord.

  589. There'll be fewer Samsungs in the world but

  590. the fact is by the fourth time

  591. when you begin

  592. you also have a Samsung?

  593. You can sit here. So by the

  594. fourth time when you start losing

  595. phones now

  596. I may not pay for it every time.

  597. But don't for a second thing that God

  598. is not continuously

  599. intervening to mitigate our consequences.

  600. If God allowed me to take

  601. on the consequences of my sin

  602. if he stuck to I won't condemn you

  603. but you got to bear the consequences

  604. guys I'd be dead by now.

  605. Like physically dead.

  606. I'd be there

  607. and Vivek would be preaching.

  608. So I'm saying to you

  609. that he takes away condemnation

  610. and he takes the consequences.

  611. He took it on the cross and he still does.

  612. If I reaped

  613. all the fruit of the

  614. bad seed I have sown

  615. in the last one year

  616. I'd be dismantled.

  617. And then a point comes

  618. where he begins to see that these

  619. consequences that he's taking

  620. on is making me lawless

  621. and cold and

  622. callous. And what does he do?

  623. It's still no condemnation.

  624. He still mitigates the bad seed

  625. but he begins the process

  626. of anger free

  627. discipline. Anger free discipline

  628. which we cannot even imagine.

  629. You know when you can imagine

  630. anger free discipline? Only with babies.

  631. Only with babies.

  632. That child

  633. ruins your day

  634. and then decides to ruin your night.

  635. And yet look at her

  636. she looks like an

  637. angel holding a lycan.

  638. Point being once a lycan

  639. grows up then we'll see. But right

  640. now anger free

  641. discipline.

  642. It's crazy how ridiculously different

  643. the god I'm talking about is from

  644. the god we believe.

  645. But you're not saying that we have to have

  646. violent benefits of

  647. our relationship with God

  648. with people all the time.

  649. That's still our choice.

  650. Because if you did not say

  651. I would mean

  652. Christians would say

  653. we don't need judges

  654. anymore.

  655. We could just let them

  656. go on the street

  657. because they're not condemned.

  658. Yeah.

  659. So Mr.

  660. Butler's

  661. statement was we can't

  662. then begin to live

  663. like that in civil society today

  664. because there are judges and there are

  665. yeah it's an imperfect

  666. system but it might still

  667. be the best system based

  668. on some of the Judeo-Christian values

  669. that exist. But a time is

  670. coming when the thief

  671. who steals from you

  672. will be judged on the basis not just

  673. of stealing but whether he was

  674. someone who was hungry

  675. whether he wanted to feed his child

  676. whether it's a disease that he has that he

  677. cannot stop stealing or whether he was nasty

  678. and malicious and wanted to do you

  679. harm. And every time we see

  680. the justice of God in heaven we

  681. will fall on the floor and worship

  682. him saying oh my God how

  683. can you be so faithful and just.

  684. The motives of the

  685. heart can never be measured by any

  686. system of the earth even if it is

  687. based on Judeo-Christian values.

  688. That only Christ

  689. can.

  690. Yeah.

  691. When Christ says I've not come to abolish

  692. the law but to fulfill it

  693. how does this work?

  694. He does something so

  695. not helpful for us

  696. before he does something helpful.

  697. He says

  698. you have heard it say

  699. do not murder but I say to you

  700. any man who

  701. even thinks

  702. angrily of someone else

  703. has already committed murder.

  704. Instead of not only

  705. is he not abolishing the law he's raising

  706. the standards. Then he says

  707. you have heard it said

  708. that do not commit adultery but I say to

  709. you that if you as much as look

  710. at a woman with lust you have already committed

  711. adultery. And what is he doing?

  712. He's saying this was the standard I

  713. set you but my real standards

  714. are here.

  715. And I've not come to abolish the law. I've

  716. come to show you that these

  717. are my real standards and I can help you live

  718. it. He lives like that

  719. and then he comes and lives in me

  720. and in living in me he has completed

  721. every requirement of the law

  722. without abolishing anything but increasing the

  723. standard.

  724. It's crazy what he's done.

  725. It was not

  726. enough that you don't commit murder. I mean

  727. yeah I can't see any

  728. murderers in this room.

  729. That's not enough but

  730. my god if I would have

  731. used New Testament Jesus standards

  732. I only see murderers in this room

  733. because if you have been angry with your brother or sister

  734. you have already committed murder.

  735. And then after

  736. doing that he then says

  737. I will fulfill this law

  738. and then he comes and lives you and

  739. now he says Nidhi

  740. I live in you

  741. and by living in you I have fulfilled

  742. the law. I have not abolished

  743. it. Go ahead Emily.

  744. I have a question with the righteousness.

  745. Pardon?

  746. I have a question with the righteousness.

  747. In terms of like the private side

  748. I want to learn about

  749. righteousness and I don't know how to make

  750. sense of that because I was talking

  751. in a James News interview

  752. and it says that he was righteous from what he did

  753. as a law enforcement officer.

  754. So you're talking about Abraham.

  755. Yeah. So

  756. if righteousness is defined

  757. as right standing with

  758. God then every

  759. time you trust God

  760. it is credited to you

  761. as right standing

  762. with God.

  763. The simplest

  764. definition of righteousness

  765. is right standing with God where

  766. it's like Manchester City

  767. has lost multiple times and I'm

  768. a Liverpool fan and then I say everything

  769. ok between us and

  770. it is this place where we come back into

  771. right standing.

  772. And right standing is when

  773. you and God have a oneness

  774. that is so perfect. It's

  775. the same oneness

  776. that the Father, Son and the Spirit have. Only

  777. now there's a fourth person. It's you.

  778. It's just nuts.

  779. Right standing with God

  780. is what the triune God has. The Father,

  781. Son and Holy Spirit have right standing

  782. with each other included in the

  783. triune God is a small

  784. handsome looking guy called?

  785. Huh?

  786. I want some other dead person now.

  787. So it's fascinating how

  788. God has so included

  789. us guys. The inclusion of God

  790. and it's very logical

  791. he had to. It's like math.

  792. It's like math.

  793. I mean when you realize that he took on

  794. human flesh and blood so that he could

  795. now face death.

  796. Like I said last week if God did not

  797. come down as man God could not die.

  798. And if he did not die

  799. there would be no sacrifice. That would be sufficient

  800. to remit our sins.

  801. But because without the shedding of blood there is

  802. no remission of sins. Therefore the

  803. word had to become flesh.

  804. It's very mathematical.

  805. We'll just do one more and then

  806. we'll take the rest later so we might have

  807. life after death 1, 1a and life

  808. after death 2 when we talk about heaven.

  809. So what I want to talk about

  810. is just something

  811. that we can deal with today before

  812. we go. And that is

  813. guys when it comes

  814. to the law

  815. if we don't live in the place of

  816. grace we will keep slipping

  817. in and out of legalism.

  818. Yeah we will keep slipping

  819. in and out of legalism.

  820. And legalism

  821. put Christ to death.

  822. One of the ways you find legalism

  823. in your life is to find out whether

  824. there is anything that

  825. happens

  826. in your heart with regard

  827. to Christ and his body.

  828. Yeah because you can't separate Christ

  829. and his body.

  830. The head is connected to the body.

  831. One of the ways you find that out is

  832. is there anything that I'm doing

  833. that comes from a place

  834. that banishes love and banishes

  835. love and banishes death.

  836. It banishes love and banishes

  837. joy.

  838. Legalism will always

  839. banish love as

  840. the motive or the root reason

  841. and it will always banish

  842. joy as the expression.

  843. It's a good litmus test.

  844. It's a good litmus test.

  845. Is it possible to have love

  846. and joy as part of the equation?

  847. Because if you don't have love and joy as part of the equation

  848. you will need something besides

  849. Jesus.

  850. Legalism is Jesus plus.

  851. Jesus plus don't run

  852. in the church. Jesus plus

  853. don't laugh in the church. Jesus plus

  854. don't put Vivek out there in the

  855. front like that. Jesus plus.

  856. It's always some other measure

  857. because you can't bear

  858. the thought of joy

  859. and love and you get

  860. used to it.

  861. I'm not saying

  862. ha ha ha laughter. I'm talking about joy and love.

  863. Whenever that is

  864. low always remember

  865. something about Christ is missing and

  866. you'll have to make up for it by putting in

  867. some rule.

  868. Avoid it at all costs.

  869. When I was 27

  870. I remember

  871. telling the Lord

  872. and I think I've stuck with it most of my life

  873. I said Jesus

  874. I will not do anything for you

  875. except for one reason

  876. that I like you.

  877. That I refuse

  878. to do anything for you that is Christian

  879. other than

  880. for one reason that I like you.

  881. Any other

  882. reason is

  883. Law

  884. really

  885. which means I have to learn

  886. to receive grace and

  887. live out of grace.

  888. If Vivek does anything for

  889. Vidisha that does not come

  890. from a place of I love you

  891. Vidisha therefore I will.

  892. Then at some point

  893. it will begin to grate. Sometimes he'll do it

  894. just because he's a nice guy.

  895. Sometimes he'll do it just because

  896. she's had a rough day

  897. and he didn't have that rough a day.

  898. Those are reasons that are okay.

  899. But any time

  900. it gets to a place where Vivek does things

  901. for Vidisha that don't come from

  902. the simple root of love.

  903. And then

  904. when love begins to take over you will find

  905. a strange thing happening. Even when

  906. he has to do something difficult for Vidisha

  907. there's a certain joy that comes in

  908. because he's doing it for the one he loves.

  909. This is one of the most beautiful religions

  910. on the face of the earth.

  911. Everything is so pristine, so simple

  912. so pure, so relational

  913. so father son daughter.

  914. Cherish it.

  915. Because what I'm going to say next is about

  916. how legalism and

  917. living under anything but grace

  918. brings into our life dullness.

  919. Hebrews

  920. almost every chapter brings it up

  921. and we'll end with that.

  922. There are many other things to

  923. put to death.

  924. So Vivek do come back next Sunday.

  925. After this sermon you'll be as famous

  926. as Diana.

  927. Everybody knows Diana

  928. and Dilna.

  929. So legalism brings in

  930. not living

  931. legalism is such a big term

  932. it's hard to understand. Not living

  933. in and out

  934. of grace

  935. brings a lack

  936. of understanding

  937. and a lack

  938. of understanding

  939. of God and his word.

  940. You find that in Deuteronomy

    Deuteronomy 29:4

  941. 29 verse 4

  942. a spirit of heaviness

  943. you find that in Isaiah

    Isaiah 61:3

  944. 61 verse 3

  945. a spirit of

  946. slumber or

  947. stupor

  948. you find that in Isaiah

    Isaiah 29:10

  949. 29 verse 10

  950. a spirit of dullness

  951. which you find in

  952. Lamentations 3

  953. 65

  954. and a spirit of

  955. confusion

  956. and lethargy

  957. which you find in Romans

  958. 11 8

  959. which borrows from all the verses above

  960. and it affects

  961. pastors

  962. and in the context of these

  963. verses prophets and

  964. people all the same.

  965. So no one should think that

  966. they are

  967. some special category that doesn't

  968. go through this.

  969. We will pray before we leave

  970. that this ends

  971. that this dullness where

  972. doesn't matter how much we read

  973. doesn't seem to

  974. go in doesn't matter how

  975. intellectual we are and how many books

  976. we read still confused

  977. that joy seems so

  978. impossible

  979. that with certain topics there's a dullness

  980. that cannot be penetrated

  981. that is confusion

  982. and lethargy

  983. or sluggishness or

  984. hope glimmers on a

  985. Sunday evening and by Monday it's evaporated

  986. nothing can happen. I'm here

  987. to say to you that the spirit of God

  988. is willing to end this in my

  989. life today.

  990. Not only will he end this he will then

  991. begin to give you hope tomorrow saying

  992. I'm going to work with

  993. you and get you to a place where

  994. this won't be the case anymore.

  995. Let's look at some scriptures.

  996. Whoever wrote Hebrew

  997. I'm just going to assume it's Paul.

  998. Hebrews

    Hebrews 2 chapter mention

  999. chapter 2

1000. he brings up this topic so often

  1001. Hebrews chapter 2 verse 1

    Hebrews 2:1

  1002. Hebrews 2 verse 1

    Hebrews 2:1

  1003. he says

  1004. we must pay

  1005. more careful attention therefore

1006. to what we have heard so that

1007. we do not drift away.

1008. Seemed like the people that he was

1009. writing to seem to have the struggle

  1010. so it's not new. You'll find

1011. it in your life. Guys it's hard

1012. for you to spot but it is easy for other

  1013. people to spot.

  1014. It might be difficult

  1015. for me to think

1016. maybe there's an area like this in my life

1017. but for you it will be easy to

1018. spot that this is this area

1019. Jacob seems dense he doesn't

  1020. seem to get it.

1021. And I'm saying to you

1022. that it is a spiritual condition

1023. and I'm saying to you that the

  1024. Holy Spirit is here.

1025. For all the things we talk about today

  1026. just remember this.

1027. Yeah? You know what this is right?

  1028. Mustard seed.

1029. And I really believe that we have that

1030. in this room. It'll be enough

  1031. to break through.

1032. Trusting the Holy Spirit to do a work

1033. that will set me free from this forever.

1034. Only he can do forever

  1035. things nobody else can.

  1036. So Hebrews chapter 2

    Hebrews 2:1

  1037. verse 1

  1038. it says

1039. they were drifting away by not

1040. paying attention. Hebrews chapter 2 verse 3

    Hebrews 2:3

1041. How shall we escape if we

1042. ignore such a great salvation?

1043. The salvation that was first announced

1044. by the Lord was confirmed to us by

1045. those who heard him as in ignoring

1046. this huge gift that we've been talking

1047. about. Such a precious pure simple

  1048. relational gift.

  1049. Not to ignore it

  1050. not to be

  1051. dull to it.

  1052. To come alive.

  1053. Hebrews chapter 3

    Hebrews 3:6

  1054. verse 6

  1055. Hebrews 3

    Hebrews 3:6

  1056. verse 6

  1057. It says

1058. But Christ is faithful as a

1059. son over God's house and we are his house

1060. if we hold on to our courage

1061. and hope of which we boast. And then

1062. it goes on to say so as

1063. the Holy Spirit says. Today if you

1064. hear his voice do not harden

1065. your hearts. I pray God that the

1066. sclerosis of the heart, the spiritual

  1067. sclerosis of the heart

1068. really just gets cleaned up.

1069. Someone talked about surgery earlier

  1070. on in Richmond.

  1071. Let it begin here.

  1072. The plaque that

  1073. has collected. All we

  1074. need is a willingness.

1075. This is a surrender. Who here

  1076. has tried to help

  1077. a heart surgeon during a triple

  1078. bypass?

  1079. You won't be here

  1080. you'll be dead.

1081. You are sedated, you surrender.

  1082. And he goes

  1083. to work.

1084. And he accomplishes. That's what's going to happen here today.

1085. What do we hold up?

  1086. Hebrews chapter

    Hebrews 3:12

  1087. 3 verse 12

1088. See to it brothers that none of you

  1089. has a sinful unbelieving

1090. heart that turns away from the

  1091. living God.

  1092. Or they

1093. believe that an unbelieving heart is a sinful heart.

1094. An unbelieving heart is a sinful heart.

  1095. A sinful unbelieving heart

1096. that turns away from God.

1097. You'll repent of that and ask him to fix it.

  1098. Next one. Hebrews 4 1

  1099. Hebrews 4 1

1100. Therefore since the promise of entering

  1101. his rest still stands

1102. let us be careful that none of you

1103. be found to having fallen

  1104. short of it.

1105. That we won't try to use our intellect.

1106. Guys, one of the curses

  1107. of

  1108. postmodern

  1109. postmodernism and enlightenment

  1110. especially in the west

  1111. is the curse

  1112. of trying to understand

  1113. the living God

  1114. intellectually.

  1115. It is a curse.

1116. It was offered first in the Garden of Eden.

1117. You can become as knowledgeable

  1118. as God.

  1119. I hate it.

  1120. You know Eastern mysticism

  1121. is more experiential?

1122. If you are one of those intellectual types

1123. If you are one of those intellectual types

  1124. say oh God

  1125. yeah

1126. My friend Roland used to say

1127. just stick a cabbage there.

  1128. Yeah

1129. Instead of your head just stick a cabbage.

  1130. Yeah.

  1131. That'll solve it but

1132. I found that very helpful.

  1133. Chapter 5 verse 11

  1134. Chapter 5 verse 11

1135. We have so much to say about this

1136. but it is hard to explain

1137. because you are slow to learn.

1138. In fact though by this time

1139. you ought to be teachers

1140. you need someone to teach you elementary truths

1141. of God's word all over again.

1142. You need milk not solid food.

1143. Anyone who lives on milk

  1144. being still an infant

1145. is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness

1146. but solid food is for the mature

1147. so we pray that our days of infancy

1148. and all this the Holy Spirit will do

1149. and he'll do it separately for each one of us

1150. but together as a body.

  1151. Next one.

  1152. Hebrews 6 1

1153. Therefore let us leave the elementary teachings

1154. about Christ and go on to maturity

1155. not laying again the foundation of repentance

1156. from acts that lead to death

1157. and of faith in God instruction about baptisms

1158. the laying on of hands the resurrection of the dead

1159. eternal judgment and God permitting we will

1160. be in the midst of the resurrection

  1161. of the dead

1162. eternal judgment and God permitting we will do so

1163. what's Paul trying to say there

1164. hey don't stay at this elementary level

  1165. don't stay there

1166. come awaken my people that's what the song said

1167. come come let's not stay there

1168. it's good that we learn that

1169. but come on there's so much more

  1170. next one

  1171. Hebrews 10 35

  1172. Hebrews 10 35

1173. do not throw away your confidence

1174. do not throw away your confidence

1175. do not throw away your confidence

1176. many of you were confident

1177. and now you're beginning to flag in your confidence

1178. because of things that haven't happened

1179. because of disappointments because of set backs

1180. do not throw away your confidence

1181. verse 39 do not shrink back

1182. do not shrink back now is not the time to shrink back

  1183. do not shrink back

  1184. verse 39

1185. you used to be something

  1186. That was nothing.

  1187. Don't keep looking back.

  1188. Don't keep looking back.

1189. You know, one of the things I always

1190. notice about people that are not progressing,

1191. they always talk about their past.

1192. If Steve Jobs was sitting here, he

1193. wouldn't be talking to us about iPhone 3.

1194. That's why old people, have you noticed how their jokes?

  1195. I mean, anyone over 55?

1196. They always tell you jokes that they've already repeated

1197. so many times in the past.

  1198. I don't like your smirk, Rebecca.

1199. The joke was on me, guys.

1200. Please don't email me saying you said something about old people.

1201. I was talking about me.

  1202. Hebrews 12, 12.

  1203. Hebrews 12, 12.

1204. Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees.

1205. Make level paths for your feet so that the lame may not

1206. be disabled, but rather healed.

1207. I pray God that that happens today.

1208. Therefore, it's time for us to pray.

  1209. Let's pray.

  1210. Let's pray.

  1211. Let's pray.

  1212. Let's pray.

  1213. Let's pray.

  1214. Let's pray.

  1215. Let's pray.

  1216. Let's pray.

  1217. Let's pray.

1218. It's time for us to strengthen our weak knees and feeble arms

1219. so that we won't have our joints dislocated,

  1220. but we'll get stronger.

  1221. And one last scripture.

1222. And this one I felt was specifically for people here.

  1223. Zephaniah 1, 12.

1224. It has nothing to do with Hebrews, but Zephaniah 1, 12.

1225. And it is for people here.

  1226. It's like a Rhema word.

1227. I want you to take note of this.

1228. It is both describes present condition

1229. and it describes the warning from God.

  1230. Zephaniah 1, 12.

1231. If this is our condition, we'll take some time

1232. to repent of these things before God begins to heal us.

  1233. Zephaniah 1, 12.

1234. At that time, I will search Jerusalem with lamps.

1235. And I will punish the men who are complacent,

1236. those who say in their hearts, the Lord will not do good,

1237. nor will he do evil.

  1238. That stinks before God.

1239. When people look at him as some kind of neutral being

1240. and say, eh, he won't do good.

1241. Matt, eh, he won't do bad either.

1242. That is a horrible thing to say about God.

  1243. That's like saying he's a nice God.

1244. Whenever when you go out on a date and someone tells you

1245. you're nice, you know it's not going to work.

1246. Just be sure of that.

  1247. It is very nice.

1248. You know you're not getting a call back.

  1249. Just remember that.

1250. For all the single people, yeah?

  1251. So just remember that.

  1252. So let's pray.

1253. And then we'll ask the Spirit of God to change all this.

1254. When you go home, you can read the other scriptures

  1255. that I gave you.

1256. All these scriptures show us that there's

1257. a spirit that is active, that brings about.

1258. Let's just go with them.

  1259. Deuteronomy 29, 4.

  1260. Deuteronomy 29, 4.

1261. When you read the Old Testament scriptures,

1262. they come from the understanding that they had of God,

1263. which attributes to God everything good and evil,

1264. till Jesus comes and shows us that he does not work like that.

1265. So read it with that understanding.

  1266. Deuteronomy 29, verse 10.

    Deuteronomy 29:10

1267. All you are standing today in the presence of the Lord,

  1268. your God, your leaders.

  1269. Sorry.

  1270. Verse 4.

  1271. Deuteronomy 29, verse 4.

    Deuteronomy 29:4

1272. But to this day, the Lord has not

1273. given you a mind that understands, or eyes that see,

  1274. or ears that hear.

  1275. Next one.

  1276. Isaiah 61, verse 3.

    Isaiah 61:3

  1277. That one we know.

  1278. Verse 3.

1279. And God will provide for those who grieve in Zion

1280. and bestow on them a crown of beauty,

1281. instead of ashes, the oil of gladness,

1282. instead of mourning, a garment of praise,

1283. and instead of a spirit of heaviness or despair,

1284. he'll give you a garment of praise.

  1285. Next one.

  1286. Isaiah 29, 10.

  1287. Isaiah 29, 10.

  1288. Isaiah 29, 10.

1289. The Lord has brought over you a deep sleep.

1290. He has sealed your eyes, the prophets.

1291. He has covered your heads, the seers.

1292. Where it's a spirit of deep sleep,

1293. a spirit of stupor in some versions,

1294. depending on which version you read.

  1295. Lamentations, 365.

1296. Lamentations is after Jeremiah, before Ezekiel.

  1297. Lamentations, 365.

1298. This is an appeal to God.

1299. But it says, pay them back what they deserve a lot

1300. and what their hands have done.

1301. Put a veil over their hearts, and may your curse be on them.

1302. Put a veil over their hearts, where your heart suddenly

  1303. becomes dull to things.

1304. And then the last one, Romans 11, 8.

  1305. Romans 11, 8.

  1306. Romans 11, 8.

1307. Romans 11, 8 borrows from all these and puts it together.

  1308. Romans 11, 8.

1309. Let's start at verse seven.

  1310. Romans 11, 7.

  1311. What then?

1312. What Israel sought so earnestly it did not obtain,

  1313. but the elect did.

1314. The others were hardened, as it's written.

1315. God gave them a spirit of stupor,

1316. eyes so that they could not see,

1317. ears so that they could not hear to this very day.

1318. So let's just ask the Lord to help us

1319. lay down some of the things we spoke,

1320. and then we'll pray that God ends these things

1321. in our lives or in this church.

1322. Lack of understanding, spirit of despair or heaviness,

1323. spirit of stupor, spirit of dullness,

1324. spirit of confusion and lethargy.

1325. Let's just ask the Lord to end this in our lives.

1326. It'll increase our understanding of the word.

1327. It'll increase our love for God.

1328. It'll increase the movement of our body

1329. and the expression that we have.

  1330. It'll increase the joy.

1331. It'll increase the way we worship.

1332. It'll change everything as we now surrender

1333. to the spiritual surgeon who can change things

1334. in heart and mind, yeah?

1335. So just a minute or two quietly first.

  1336. Father, we humble ourselves.

1337. I humble myself by refusing to say that I am beyond help.

  1338. That is not humility.

  1339. That is putrid pride.

1340. When a man comes before God and says I am beyond help,

1341. I'm useless, you can do nothing for me,

1342. that is not humility, it is absolute pride.

1343. So we come to humble ourselves.

1344. Father, some of us are hopeless.

1345. We feel like we are in a waterless pit

1346. and you want to quote from Zechariah 12.

1347. You're saying I bring you out of the waterless pit

1348. and I call you a prisoner of hope.

1349. Jesus, could you take those people

1350. and put handcuffs on them saying I'm taking you

1351. into a prison called hope, prisoners of hope.

  1352. Prisoners of hope.

1353. Father, there are others here

1354. who came from legalistic backgrounds.

1355. You are saying to them that just as I set many

1356. who were legalistic free in Israel,

1357. I'll set you free today.

1358. Father, there are some of us who are frustrated

1359. that we can't understand the word freedom.

1360. Doesn't matter how much we read it,

  1361. it doesn't interest us.

  1362. It's a pain, it's a chore, it's not fun.

1363. And even when we do get occasionally interested,

1364. it doesn't bring life, it just remains like a book.

1365. Jesus, today will be a breakthrough.

1366. Father, some of us think there's nothing wrong with us.

1367. We have all this together.

1368. How we come on our knees and say,

1369. oh God, it is not enough.

1370. I apologize for being satisfied.

1371. I want more, I want to be hungry.

1372. Father, we are not alone.

  1373. We are not alone.

  1374. We are not alone.

  1375. We are not alone.

  1376. We are not alone.

  1377. We are not alone.

  1378. We are not alone.

1379. Father, some of us are just plain, sometimes lazy.

1380. And as it said in Hebrews 2, verse one,

1381. we have been neglecting this great gift of salvation

  1382. and are drifting away.

1383. We just repent of it.

1384. I repent of it Abba, I repent of it.

1385. As a person's output increases, the input must increase.

1386. One can't survive on the diet from years ago.

1387. Many of us repent of it.

1388. Many leaders in this church, including me,

1389. we repent of it, I repent of it, oh God, sorry.

1390. Father, some of us came from traditional churches

1391. where things were done a certain way, and we still insist on that.

1392. This is how we do it.

1393. Father, we are very sorry, very sorry for this is how we do it.

1394. This is not how we do it. You do it your way, we will follow.

1395. Father, some of us have occupied our lives with busy things that are not important.

1396. Busy things that are not important.

  1397. It's become a robber.

  1398. It's become a robber.

1399. May, can you come up and pray?

1400. Before I ask May to pray, I just want to rebuke the spirit of stupa from over all of us.

1401. So in the name of Jesus Christ, we pray.

1402. May, come up and pray.

1403. May, come up and pray.

1404. May, come up and pray.

1405. May, come up and pray.

1406. I rebuke the spirit of stupa from over all of us.

1407. So in the name of Jesus Christ right now,

1408. I rebuke the spirit of slumber, of stupa,

1409. of that which makes us sleepy literally physically and spiritually

1410. when we begin to deal with the word.

1411. That which brings confusion and dullness,

1412. that which makes the heart unable to receive,

1413. mind completely unable to hear what God is saying.

1414. In the name of Jesus Christ, it is a spiritual condition that is not mine,

  1415. not ours from Christ.

1416. And so it does not have to be received anymore.

1417. So in the name of Jesus Christ, this church resists it.

1418. You said, oh God, that if we submit to you and resist the devil,

1419. he will flee from us.

1420. So we actively resist this dullness upon our lives, hearts and minds.

1421. We resist it in Jesus Christ's name.

1422. And now that we as a church are resisting it,

1423. I rebuke the spirit of confusion.

1424. I rebuke the spirit of dullness.

  1425. I rebuke the spirit of hard-heartedness.

1426. I rebuke the legalistic spirit of deafness and muteness

1427. that brings the dullness to the heart and mind.

1428. I rebuke the spirit and have the mustard seed faith to command it to leave our lives,

1429. to be dismissed from our lives, driven out from our lives,

1430. from every person sitting here.

1431. In the name of Jesus Christ, who is light, life, wisdom, understanding, counsel,

1432. and the living word, in the name of that Jesus Christ,

1433. I drive out the spirit.

1434. We submit our minds to you, oh God.

1435. We submit our minds to you.

1436. Holy Spirit, we submit our minds to you.

1437. Thank you for what will transpire in this church starting today.

  1438. Go ahead, May.

1439. Christ, you came to give us life in the fullest.

1440. And so these things that hold us back, Father,

1441. stupor, lack of understanding, heaviness, dullness, confusion, Father,

1442. they stop us from living that life of fullness that you have already paid on the cross, Father.

1443. And so we refuse to do things half-measured because you didn't sacrifice half-measurably.

1444. You gave your full life for us, Father.

1445. And so whatever holds us back from walking that full life, Father,

1446. we lay it down at the cross before you now.

1447. We leave it there not to pick it up again,

1448. not to play with it, not to examine it, but we leave it there because you already took care of it.

1449. And so thank you for completely healing these parts,

1450. completely taking these things away, Father,

1451. and so that we can walk in the fullness that you have called us to.

  1452. Yeah.

1453. Muster seed grows into a fantastic, beautiful tree, Father,

1454. and that is what we want to grow into with you.

1455. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.

  1456. Amen.
