If you'd like to learn more about our church, connect with
-
us or get involved, you will find all the details in the
-
description. Now let's dive into today's
-
message. Thank you.
-
If you have your Bibles 10 with me to John chapter 6 and Colin
John 6 chapter mention
-
thank you for that word. Where's Colin and say thank you
-
for that word Colin. It was spot on because this
-
morning we're beginning a new series on the I am statements of
-
Jesus. So please turn with me to John
John 6 chapter mention
-
chapter 6. You'll find it in the New
-
Testament and we'll. Read verse 35.
-
Jesus said to them, I am the bread of.
-
Life. Whoever.
-
Comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall
-
never. Thirst, our gracious Lord.
-
Come and dwell among us this morning through the preaching
-
and the proclamation. Of the riches of Christ.
-
Come and give. Power to your word.
-
That it would encourage us. That it would edify us.
-
But ultimately, oh God, that. You would be glorified.
-
Through this message this morning.
-
And so we ask that in Jesus name, Amen.
-
So this morning we're beginning a new series on the I AM
-
statements of Jesus. And I'm sure perhaps some of us
-
are familiar with the I AM statements of Jesus.
-
And in fact. All of the.
-
I am statements are found in the book of John.
-
So from time to time we'll hear Jesus say saying I am the bread
-
of life, I am the Good Shepherd, I am the gate, I am the light.
-
And so we're going to walk. Through all of.
-
These I am these I Am's are quite significant in the
-
biblical text, most specifically in the book of John, because
-
they indicate something that's quite important that relates to
-
the nature. Of who God is.
-
And so the author of this book, of course it is.
-
John the Apostle. John who?
-
Is the disciple of. Jesus, the son of Zebedee.
-
And in fact, the the way John is described to us in the book of
-
John is that it. Is the disciple that Jesus loved
-
he? Is one of the disciples.
-
He's in fact in the inner. Circle of Jesus Christ.
-
Now in relation. To the author of the authorship
-
of the Book of. John, there is some debate
-
around that in terms is it John? Who really wrote this book?
-
Because when we when we when we turn to John Chapter 1, the
John 1 chapter mention
-
author does not introduce themselves.
-
There's so many people says that.
-
How do we even know that is John if there is no introduction from
-
the author? In fact, if you read from the
-
2nd century onwards, you would find that.
-
People like Polycap, who was a disciple of.
-
John. Irenaeus, who was a disciple of
-
of Polycap actually. Even Eusebius actually
-
anonymously says that in fact it was written by John and in fact.
-
He wrote this book at Ephesus. That's what they believe.
-
And so we also. Believe that because as well as
-
we read the epistles, as well as we read the book of.
-
Revelation also written by John. We can almost see that the
-
issues that John is addressing. Were the issues.
-
That were in fact are quite prevalent at Ephesus.
-
So he writes this. Book at Ephesus and of.
-
Course, Ephesus is a place of trade.
-
Ephesus. Is a place of commerce.
-
But also Ephesus, it is a place. Where there's many false
-
worship, false gods, and Pagan worship.
-
And in fact you if you were to go.
-
In Ephesus, during this period, you would find a huge temple,
-
the temple of Diana, where people would go and.
-
Worship the goddess of fertility if you were to go to.
-
Ephesus you will find, in fact, that there were more than 50
-
gods. I mean, that's.
-
A lot of gods. To worship and the reason for
-
that is because. The Ephesus was diverse.
-
There were many cultures and many people from different.
-
Walks of life that would. Come to episodes and each of
-
them would worship in their own way.
-
And so John here is helping us to to understand what would this
-
would have meant in that context.
-
In fact, it's not even giving us any chronological narrative.
-
Of the life of Jesus. He is simply beginning.
-
We're just telling us in the beginning, what's the word?
-
That's how John begins. And none of the other synoptic
-
gospels begin that way. And then we must ask ourselves,
-
what is John single idea here? What does John want the audience
-
to know? The Jewish audience, but also
-
the gentle. Audience What does?
-
John want them to know the answer is simple and perhaps the
-
answer is also in these I am statements John wants.
-
Them to know that Jesus is the. Eternal divine Son of God.
-
So John's idea is this. I want you to know the.
-
Deity. Of God I want you to know.
-
That Jesus is God. Hence the term the son of.
-
God, but I also. Want you to know that He is the
-
Son of Man, which reveals his humanity.
-
So when the writers talk about the Son of God, they reveal his
-
deity. When they talk about the Son of
-
Man, they reveal his humanity. But John spends more time
-
talking about the Son. Of God.
-
Because he wants to say to the Jewish audience, I want you to
-
know. That Jesus is God.
-
This would have been of course been very hard for this.
-
Particular. Audience, in fact, as you read
-
the book of John. You realize that the Jewish
-
audience does not like that statement at all.
-
In fact, they consider this blasphemy and if you were to
-
read Leviticus 24, if one would use the name of God.
-
This way the Bible says they ought to be.
-
Stoned. Or they ought to be executed.
-
Because it was considered as blasphemy.
-
Hence the Jews in the Book of John are always wanting to stone
-
and. Kill Jesus because they knew
-
exactly. What he meant when he said I am
-
in Psalm 2. Verse 7 it says the.
-
King. Proclaims the Lord's decree.
-
The Lord said to me, you are my son.
-
Today I have become your father. And so John uses.
-
This. I am statements ready to.
-
Reveal to us. The nature of God.
-
To tell us that in fact, Jesus is God.
-
I want us to look at that, in fact, from the book of John, a
-
number of texts. That really prove.
-
John's point, John 11 in the beginning was the Word, and the
-
Word was God and the Word. So in the Word was with God, and
-
the Word was God the one who comes from.
-
Above is above all. The one who is from the earth
-
belongs to the earth, and speak as one from the earth, the one
-
who comes from heaven. Is above all.
-
John 1030. I and the Father are 1.
-
John 2028 referring to Jesus. Thomas answered him, my Lord and
-
my God, and then John 2031. But these, so we will read that
-
a little bit later, but you see that sense.
-
That John keeps on pushing this matter that.
-
Jesus is God I love. The one from John 1030 I and the
-
Father are 1 John 2028. My Lord and my God, Thomas did
-
not make a. Mistake.
-
Jesus is God. And Church, if we don't see this
-
and we don't believe this, then salvation becomes meaningless.
-
The Saviour must be truly. God.
-
And must be truly man, the Saviour must be.
-
Fully God. And fully man in.
-
Order to save. Us in order to redeem us in
-
order. To rescue us.
-
If he's only fully man, he is not qualified because it means.
-
He is, he is with. Sin, but if he's only.
-
God, he's not able to. Identify with us, nor die.
-
For us. So he must be God in his nature,
-
but also he must be human. Then we must consider then.
-
What do other? Religions say about Jesus.
-
What do they say about Jesus's deity?
-
That Jesus is God? I read a couple of.
-
Couple of statements from different religions.
-
They say Jesus was a. Human prophet sent by God who
-
performed miracles, but he was not the Son.
-
Of God, Jesus. Was a rabbi and a.
-
Popular teacher. He is not a divine, rather a
-
manifestation of the Divine. Jesus is one of many divine
-
messengers. Or prophets who progressively.
-
Reveal God's teaching to humanity.
-
Jesus Divinity is unknown or unknowable.
-
Jesus was a created being. This is what many religions
-
believe who Jesus is more specifically in relation to his
-
deity. Doctor Craig Kanner says the
-
following. In the whole Gospel of John,
-
John plainly affirms Jesus deity and you can see.
-
It as you read the. IM statements as Corinne has
-
said this morning, that when Moses who's being.
-
Called by God to. Go and set free to go and bring
-
out to. The people of Israel in.
-
Egypt and Moses is is is talking to God and say, you know, if
-
they ask who has sent me or what is the name?
-
Of this God, what shall I say to them God?
-
Says you say to them, I am who I am, in other words to.
-
Say to them that I. AM has sent you, and this is to
-
be understood in the Old Testament as the very name of
-
God, the name of Yahweh. I am the one who?
-
Is. That's what Jesus is saying and
-
when. Jesus is using this.
-
Is also then saying I am. God again, This is why the.
-
Jewish audience is upset with. Jesus.
-
That's why they are angry at Jesus, because.
-
He is claiming to be divine. He is claiming.
-
To be God. And to them they say.
-
How dare you? Claim to be Yahweh and Jesus
-
says I am. And guess what?
-
Before Abraham. Was I?
-
AM and they said but you're not even 50.
-
Years old. How can you be older than
-
Abraham? It says you forgetting Abraham.
-
Looked forward to this day because Abraham knew that his
-
seed. Will come to redeem humanity.
-
Therefore we must ask the first we must ask the first question.
-
Who then is Jesus as it? Relates to the.
-
I am statements if you're reading the book of John, we are
-
seeing at least about 7 miracles and John has organized this book
-
around these signs. In fact, he does not use the
-
word miracle. Interesting enough.
-
He uses the word signs and I'll tell you why he uses that word
-
signs. And so he's giving us about 7
-
signs in the book of John. So we know that one is the one
-
that where. Jesus turned water into.
-
Wine the second one where? He healed the royal official.
-
Son. And then the healing.
-
At the pool of Bethesda. And then the feeding of the
-
5000. And then we.
-
Also have Jesus walked. Walking on water and Jesus
-
healing the blind man in the last sign we see in the book of
-
John is Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead.
-
And again, he does not call these miracles, he calls them
-
signs. Why?
-
Because all of this are. Meant to to point.
-
To the reality. They are not meant to say oh.
-
Wow, Jesus walked on water. But I meant to ask the question,
-
what does this tell me about the one who has done this miracle?
-
They must point to reality. And so in John 6 we see the 2
-
miracles, 1 we see the one of Jesus feeding the 5000 and the
-
one of Jesus walking on water. And John 6 as it opened we see
-
Jesus on the shore of the Sea of Galilee.
-
And the Bible says. There is a crowd, that is.
-
Following Jesus because Jesus had performed multiple miracles
-
and had been healing the sick. And so all of them are following
-
Jesus and Jesus in verse. Five.
-
I love what? Jesus says in verse.
-
Five, he says. Jesus.
-
Lifted up his eyes then, seeing that a large cloud was coming
-
towards him. He said to Philip, Where are we
-
to buy bread for thee for these? People who may eat.
-
I love that as he lifted up his eyes.
-
I think we can quickly jump from that.
-
Part of the text. And I would like us.
-
To pause there that Jesus lifted up his.
-
Eyes and sing. A large crowd was coming towards
-
him and he's asking. Philip, where are?
-
We going to get. Bread for these people.
-
I love that first, that Jesus cares about people.
-
He will deal. With their spiritual hunger.
-
He will deal with their spiritual depravity.
-
But at this moment, he's dealing with their physical needs.
-
Jesus cares about hungry people. Jesus cares about our physical.
-
Needs in fact, Jesus does not wait for them to.
-
Say, hey, Jesus. We are hungry.
-
Jesus is the one who takes the initiative because he sees them
-
that they are hungry and often we may want to.
-
Wait before we take. The initiative and often the
-
Lord would say to us that when we see.
-
A brother or a sister in. Need it is not often a moment to
-
wait and say and wait for them to say hey help me.
-
But is to say how? Can I serve you and how can I be
-
a blessing to you in this moment or at this moment?
-
Because Jesus. Cares and this morning for some
-
of us may be dealing with financial situations may be
-
dealing with troubling. Situations.
-
Whatever situation. You may be dealing with this
-
morning in your life. Whatever worry and anxiety that
-
you might have this morning, I want to.
-
Say to you, Jesus cares. And often Jesus will use people
-
to be a blessing. To you.
-
For some of us tonight at the dinner table, let us be reminded
-
that. God.
-
Is the one that provides. We even have to remind our
-
children when they waste. Food.
-
That we don't waste food. Because God has provided this.
-
Comes from the hand. Of God Colossians chapter 6
-
verse. 10 says this so then. As we have.
-
Opportunity let us do good. To.
-
Everyone, and especially and especially.
-
To those who are of the household of faith.
-
Do good to all men. But especially to those of the
-
household of faith. That's the first miracle, right?
-
And then the second one, of course, we see Jesus walking on
-
water. And before that we know the
-
disciples, the wind is blowing, the seas are rough, and they and
-
they see Jesus coming and Jesus walking on water and they are
-
afraid at this moment. And Jesus says to them.
-
Do not be afraid, for it is I. And Church, John.
-
Uses both of these. Signs again to paint the picture
-
of Jesus divinity to point that indeed.
-
This is God. For what he has done, no man can
-
do. They point to reality.
-
Reality. Of who he is.
-
That indeed he is an immutable God.
-
Romans 11. 36 says the following.
-
For from Him and through him and, and for Him all things to
-
be Him, be the glory forever. Then we must ask them the
-
question, what happens after these miracles?
-
And we read in verse 2625 and 26.
-
Then they found them on the other.
-
Side of the. Lake and they asked.
-
Him Rabbi. When did you get here?
-
Jesus answered very truly. I tell you, you are looking for
-
me not because you saw signs they performed, but.
-
Because you ate the loaves. And had your feel and Jesus is
-
saying to this. Crowd that you you you want me
-
for selfish? Reason you're seeking me is
-
distorted in this. Case the reason?
-
You want me is not. For for spiritual truth.
-
In fact, you want me because you want a snack.
-
You're coming to me because? You.
-
Want. Food.
-
That's it. That's what Jesus says, Yeah.
-
That's all you want. You want the benefits, but not
-
the source. You want the gifts, but not the
-
giver. You want a kind of a Santa
-
Claus? Type of Jesus.
-
Who's simply giving out gifts without dealing dealing.
-
With your spiritual reality, perhaps I'll ask you a.
-
Question this morning, because you may say it's them.
-
May I suggest this morning? Perhaps it's us.
-
Perhaps the question is this. Are you also seeking your own
-
satisfaction in the wrong places?
-
Are you finding your own satisfaction in money, in fame,
-
in health? Do you even find your own
-
satisfaction in your own? In marriage, in entertainment,
-
in gambling, in relationships, in your career, in your
-
prestige, in power, popularity and position?
-
Are you seeking satisfaction even in recognition?
-
Where are you seeking? Your satisfaction this morning?
-
Because Jesus says that's. All you want.
-
You want the bread, right? You want to eat, but you're not
-
really seeking me for who I am. You want what I can offer you,
-
not because you're humbly coming.
-
Because you realize. That you are bankrupt
-
spiritually. He says that in verse 27.
-
Do not. Work for the food that perishes,
-
but for the. Food that endures for eternal
-
life and the and the audience in this case would have understood
-
what Jesus meant because. Food was.
-
Bread in specific was expensive. Bread was not cheap at this
-
point in time, but it was something that was used really
-
most people would buy and Jesus saying here do not.
-
Work for food that perishes, but for the.
-
Food that endures and Jesus is often is offering an alternative
-
that in the ancient. East the bread may be.
-
Expensive. It might.
-
Perhaps it's what you need for your sustenance.
-
But just wanted to say I want to give something that is
-
different. Guess what?
-
What I'm about? To give you.
-
You don't have to buy it. Men work for these things.
-
They. Work.
-
To get the bread. But it's saying no, no, no, no.
-
What I'm going to give you for eternal life, you don't have.
-
To work for it. In fact, it will cost you
-
absolutely nothing. It is free.
-
And if in our. Day-to-day as people.
-
Come to Jesus. For many of us, we may be coming
-
to say What can I do to make Jesus love me more?
-
What can I do to pursue Jesus? How can I earn?
-
Jesus's love. How can I earn?
-
Jesus's favour. How can I earn Jesus's blessing?
-
What about my own moral pursuit in trying to know God?
-
And for some of us, we may say, well, you know, I do a lot of
-
good. Works.
-
I've been baptized and. For some of us it may be
-
behaviour modification, for some of us it may be that I'm part.
-
Of a church. But the question is, you don't.
-
Work to get right with God. It is not your works.
-
That get right you with God. It is Christ works that gets
-
right with us, that we get right with Him.
-
Not because of anything that we do.
-
What makes Christianity different from all religions is
-
that we don't work to get. Right with God, salvation.
-
Is a. Gift of God apart from.
-
Works. Therefore.
-
We do nothing to earn or attain eternal life freely given by
-
Christ and Jesus. Thanks to them come the food
-
that you. Will have will perish.
-
But guess what? What I'm going to give you will
-
endure for eternal life. Oh Saints, this morning at
-
Weinberg. Let us seek that which is.
-
Eternal this morning that what Jesus offers us this morning
-
don't work for it. Receive it.
-
Come. At the feet of Christ.
-
And receive it. This morning because as we.
-
Come to Him, He is the one who will satisfy our.
-
Deepest. Longing, the one who will give
-
us his. Peace, his joy.
-
Which no man can take. Away.
-
From us, but he says there is a requirement.
-
Verse 29 believe in him who has sent me.
-
You want this bread? I'll give you the bread, but.
-
You must believe in me. To receive the bread.
-
Of eternal life. Believe in me.
-
That sounds arrogant to us, right?
-
That's why people. Say to us all the time, isn't it
-
arrogant? That you say Jesus is.
-
The only way why there's many other religions.
-
Surely that's arrogant. It's not arrogant.
-
It's the truth because Jesus. Is unique.
-
He's unlike any other God, and history proves.
-
That. That Jesus is unique, so Jesus
-
says. Believe.
-
In the one who has sent me church, you remember the
-
Philippian jailer, he asked the question.
-
He says what must I? Do to be saved.
-
The answer is still the same, Paul says to him.
-
Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved.
-
You. And your.
-
Household that is still the. Requirement today that.
-
We ought to. Come, but we must believe that
-
those who believe and look upon the sun.
-
The Bible says they possess. Eternal life.
-
It's not about knowing. Facts about Jesus and sometimes.
-
We can know a lot. Of facts about Jesus.
-
A lot of theology about Jesus. And we can even become scholars
-
in all of these things. But the question is not so much
-
about knowing facts. About Jesus, the question is.
-
Do you know Him? You know Christ as you believe
-
in Him, as you trust in Him. So here are a few.
-
Questions I want to ask us this morning together as a community
-
and as a church. Have you believed this morning?
-
Don't ask your neighbor that question, ask yourself have.
-
You believed, have you? Trusted in Him have you laid?
-
Hold of the Saviour, have you? Experienced the salvation the
-
Lord brings. Have you closed in with Christ
-
this morning? And have you eaten?
-
Of His Of his flesh did you partake of his flesh this.
-
Morning the Jesus says you need me and I want to say to us and
-
maybe to the young people in our room, but also even to couples
-
in our room and to everyone here this morning, but especially for
-
our young people to remind them this morning that.
-
It is good that your. Parents love Jesus and they're
-
followers of Christ and and committed and devoted followers
-
of Christ. But the question I'd like to ask
-
our young people this morning and even ask ourselves this
-
morning is do I know God for myself?
-
Not just my husband, not just my wife, but just my friend, my
-
mother, my dad. But do you know God for
-
yourself? That's the call.
-
And then it says in verse 40 this is what then I.
-
Give to those who believe. Notice this is what I give to
-
them. This is I give eternal life and
-
I will raise him up on the last day.
-
In fact, that is repeated. We can also see it in Vested 9
-
repeated as well. Raise him up upon on the last.
-
Day. Whenever the Bible repeats
-
things, we often have to pay attention.
-
There's an implication there. Here is the implication if Jesus
-
gives eternal life and he's saying I will also raise them up
-
on the. Last day there is something
-
that. God is telling us, and John is
-
wanting us to know here number one is this, that none of us can
-
lose our salvation. Why?
-
Because eternal life in this context is not in the future
-
tense, it is in the present tense.
-
You have eternal life now. Today, if you have it.
-
You can lose it. Why?
-
You did nothing to earn it anyway, so you can't unearn it.
-
It's given to you. Here's the other promise on the
-
last day. He will raise you up.
-
He'll do that on the last day. He will raise you up, the Bible
-
says. We will be caught up with.
-
Him, he will do that. That's the implication.
-
And then verse 33. We see all of these.
-
Bread of life against the one who he has come from heaven.
-
Notice verse 3033. And this coming down from heaven
-
appears in fact seven times in John chapter 6-7 times.
John 6 chapter mention
-
For the bread of God. Is the bread that comes down
-
from heaven, and it gives. Life to the world.
-
Verse 41. At this the Jews.
-
Began to grumble about him because he said I am the bread
-
that comes down from heaven. Verse 42 they said is this not
-
Jesus the. Son of Joseph, his father and
-
mother, we know how can you say I have come down from heaven?
-
Verse 50 but. Here is the bread.
-
That comes down from heaven, which anyone may eat and not
-
die, verse 51. I am the bread that come down
-
from heaven. Verse 58.
-
This is the bread that. Came down from heaven, do you?
-
See that 7? Times the bread that came down
-
from where? From heaven.
-
There's an emphasis there. Don't miss it 7 times.
-
The bread that. Had come down from heaven.
-
That's why the. Jews are saying, but we know
-
this guy. We know his.
-
Dad. How can you tell us He comes
-
down from heaven, man, we know your.
-
Dad, Dad. Is Eric, how can you say you
-
come down from heaven? They're missing that and in
-
fact. They could have said but.
-
We know that you, you from Bethlehem, you from Nazareth,
-
how can now you say you come down from heaven?
-
And what Jesus is doing there? He's telling them his origin as
-
the second person of the Trinity.
-
The one we see before all creation seated at the right.
-
Hand of God, and he's saying I came down from heaven.
-
Why did I come down from heaven? I came down to do.
-
The will of the Father. I came down to lay down my life
-
for sinners. That's why I came.
-
Jesus has been. Clear in the book of John.
-
That's why I come. To do the will of the father, so
-
that through. Me through me you may have life,
-
that through me you may find sustaining bread.
-
I come down from heaven. Again, this is Deity, not from
-
this earth, but comes down from heaven clear, a clear indication
-
that He is God. Point #3 Notice verse 35.
-
Then again notice. The repeat there is a.
-
Repeat here, Don't miss. It verse 35I.
-
Am the bread of life verse 41 I am the bread that comes down
-
from heaven verse 48 I am the bread of life verse 51 I am the
-
bread four times. I am the bread, bread, bread of
-
life and. Jesus here is of course.
-
Using an imagery. A.
-
A figure of. Speech a metaphor.
-
To help. The audience to understand the
-
reality of. Who?
-
He. Is that he is the.
-
One that is essential for spiritual sustenance, but also
-
essential for eternal life. Again, notice in verse 50.
-
But here is the bread that. Comes down from heaven, which
-
anyone may eat and not die. He says guys believe right.
-
Come and eat. Here's the implication if you do
-
not eat. You will.
-
Die. Doesn't beat the rapper.
-
Doesn't beat around the Bush about that.
-
If you don't eat, you will die and notice.
-
That he says I. Am the bread the bread?
-
Is a person the bread? Is Christ?
-
He points to himself. I am this, therefore eat what
-
I'm giving you. But if you do not eat.
-
You will die, that's the implication.
-
Because without the bread there. Is no life.
-
In fact, I would say. Without the bread there.
-
Is no salvation, for there is no salvation apart from Christ.
-
So he's saying eat, come if you don't.
-
Eat you will die. And we must continue to shout
-
that from the. Rooftops to say if you.
-
Do not believe in Christ. You are in danger.
-
You are in danger. To be spiritually blind is
-
dangerous. Come, Jesus says come and eat.
-
Come and receive abundant life. Come and receive eternal life.
-
Come and receive supernatural life.
-
Come and eat, Come and partake of my.
-
Flesh and those who partake. They know once they.
-
Eat that the search is. Over.
-
I'm no longer looking for any satisfaction anywhere.
-
Why? Because Jesus is.
-
Enough. Jesus is enough.
-
Again, we must be reminded that our family traditions will not
-
save. US.
-
That a nice self help book from Doctor Feel and Oprah will not
-
save us, you must be reminded. Just like Jesus.
-
Saying here, come and eat, come and.
-
Eat for you to receive. Eternal life.
-
I am the very source of eternal life.
-
And he says to Weinberg Community this morning, I have
-
something that will satisfy your deepest longing.
-
And he says. Guess that what is?
-
He points to himself. I'm the one who will.
-
Satisfy your deepest. Longings stop searching and come
-
number. 4 which is the last. Point.
-
And so before we go to the. Last point, the last question I
-
just simply want to ask. You is this do you?
-
Yearn and long for things that can never satisfy.
-
Your soul. What are you longing for this
-
morning? What are you yearning for this
-
morning #4 which is the last point?
-
And then we will close. You would think in reading John
-
that after everything Jesus has said, the audience will say we
-
coming, we want to eat, we want to partake, we want the living
-
bread, we want to. Eat off your flesh.
-
But not just the response. Look at verse 60.
-
With me, many of the. Disciples.
-
Had it and they said. This is hard.
-
Saying who can listen to this? OK, notice that it is Notice
-
that verse 64. There are some of you who do not
-
believe. Notice verse 66.
-
After this, many of his disciples turned back and no
-
longer. Walked with him.
-
The guys were happy in the beginning of Chapter 6.
-
Give us bread. It's wonderful.
-
And Jesus starts to teach now and they think, oh, Oh no, no,
-
no, no, man, we didn't sign up for this.
-
Just give us the. Bread and we'll be OK.
-
And they said, but now what you're saying to us, these are
-
hard teachings. Who can accept this man?
-
This is 2. And it says they some of them
-
turned away and they no longer followed him.
-
And the Bible says because. Jesus knows everything.
-
He says because you. Realize that some of you.
-
Here. Do not.
-
Believe. Guess what they were.
-
Offended and because of their offence.
-
They walked away. It was the.
-
Truth that offended them, the truth became a scandal to them,
-
it became an offence. To this.
-
Audience instead of submitting themselves.
-
To the truth. They wanted to submit themselves
-
to their feelings, to their ideas.
-
As well as to their desires. We may.
-
Say, well, Eric, it was. Them this doesn't apply to.
-
Us. We are here today.
-
Surely we not like this audience until when at times something
-
that is very clearly in in the scriptures where?
-
God. Says this is the standard.
-
This is what you ought to do. Is the standard.
-
Whatever it is, it's a biblical. Standard and then we say.
-
But I hear it's a. Biblical standard, but I'm not
-
going to apply this in my own life.
-
The biblical standard could be you're not supposed to have an
-
affair. You're supposed to be.
-
You're supposed to be faithful. To one husband and one wife,
-
this is, you know, I'll be like Solomon.
-
I'll have more, but you know the biblical standard, and Jesus is
-
clear on the biblical standard. And you say to yourself.
-
No, I'm not going to apply that biblical standard in my own
-
life. I don't care, in fact, about
-
what. Jesus says.
-
I'm going to do what I want to do.
-
That's the question to ask this morning when it comes to, in
-
fact, to such an extent that sometimes the biblical standards
-
make people. Leave churches.
-
Because not because of the leaders, not because of
-
anything. But because of the Bible.
-
I left the church. Because of what the Bible says.
-
I want to encourage us this morning.
-
To take hold of Jesus standard, to apply Jesus standard and to
-
say Lord. Perhaps we can't do this in our
-
own strength, in our own power. Help us, help us.
-
We're battling with this. Help us buy your spirit to live.
-
According to this standard. More specifically, this
-
particular area. That I'm struggling with.
-
The Lord is gracious. Go.
-
And approach the throne of grace, and find mercy and find.
-
Grace because the standard will not.
-
Change. The word of the Lord.
-
Remains. Forever it.
-
Will not change. We are the ones.
-
Who ought to? Change and take it in and when
-
they leave. Jesus says to the disciples.
-
Do you also want to go? Come on, you want to join them?
-
I love it in the IST Closer version.
-
Sing Aya pinangos go by a Masri Obomi Abuna pagadi I go.
-
To whom shall we go? For you, O Lord, have the words.
-
Of eternal life and Peter is saying I'm not going anywhere.
-
We staying. And it is my prayer this morning
-
that the Saints at Weinberg were this morning.
-
We'll say, oh, we're not staying even when we hear.
-
Hard truth. Oh, we are staying.
-
Because we are submitting ourselves the word of the Lord,
-
no matter how hard and difficult it may be.
-
Few words of. Application And then we close
-
the book of John John single idea here he wants his readers
-
to be. Saved, he does.
-
Not simply want them to say, wow, that's an amazing sign, but
-
he wants them to be saved. He wants them to partake.
-
Of. Christ and to receive eternal
-
life. And perhaps for many of us this
-
morning, perhaps we've been coming to church for decades,
-
maybe for a year, maybe for a couple of months.
-
Maybe you love the songs here. Maybe.
-
You love the fellowship. In this church.
-
But may I plead with you this morning that if you have not
-
come to Christ, there is an invitation from Christ this
-
morning He says, come, come to me, come and eat this morning.
-
Come and drink this morning and come and be satisfied.
-
Come. Jesus is whom?
-
You need this morning and when you find him or when he finds
-
you, theologians I know here saying, how can you know what
-
he's saying now, finding Jesus when he finds you?
-
He will satisfy you if you're a. Professing Christian this
-
morning. You may be going through a dry
-
time or a difficult season this morning.
-
You have the peace. But you don't enjoy it this
-
morning. You don't feel as though the
-
peace is real this morning. You may be going through that
-
season and can I say every Christian goes through that?
-
Season. Season of great typical
-
spiritual dryness but may I encourage you this morning feed
-
upon Christ also come and. Eat He is the.
-
One who will fully and. Truly satisfy you, our dear.
-
Lord in heaven, we are grateful and thankful this morning that
-
You are the one who satisfies our longings.
-
And so, Lord, I do pray this morning for for those this
-
morning, oh God, who have not yet.
-
Believed that Lord by your. Spirit, you would draw them to
-
yourself, You would save them, Lord God, and give them your
-
righteousness. I do pray, Lord, even for the
-
Saints, oh God, here at Weinberg, oh God, this morning
-
who may be going through a tough and dry and difficult season,
-
that oh God, they may feed on you, they may look to you, oh
-
God, this morning and trust in you, Oh Lord, in Jesus name,
-
Amen. Thank you for listening to
