Good morning, family.

It's good to see you guys.

You may take your seats.

It's a privilege as always to be here.

We do feel like we're with family.

You know, I go to church just down the street, so I feel like we all get to do church together in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

As Pastor Earl mentioned, my oldest son Jackson goes to church here.

He's been discipled here.

He's met his people here.

So we have an affinity for this church for sure.

And then I've known Earl and Onique and a lot of the leaders from this church, y'all, for years.

I'm talking years and years.

So to see what God has done through Shoreline Church, I hope y'all know that the Lord must love y'all to let y'all go to Shoreline.

It's a good church with good people where you're hearing the word of God, and that's what matters.

I'm excited to spend a few moments with you in the scriptures.

In fact, one of the books of the Bible that your pastor mentioned a few moments ago that you all are going to be reading through this month.

I believe the Lord has a word for us there.

I believe in the power of the word of God, that it is living, active, sharper than any two-edged sword, and that if you'll lean all the way in with your spiritual ears, he will speak to you.

So let's pray together.

Lord, thank you so much for your word.

We don't take it for granted, Father, that you've allowed us to hear your voice through the scriptures.

So I pray, Lord, that in these next few moments you will open up our spiritual ears to hear what you've come to say.

In Jesus' name I pray.

Amen.

My husband Jerry and I, we got three boys.

Jackson, I mentioned to you, he's gonna be 24 soon.

And then I have a 22-year-old named JC, and then our youngest is Jude, he's 17.

We have these three sons that are grown men now, but as we were raising them, we homeschooled them for a lot of years.

One of the main reasons we homeschooled them is because our life included a lot of travel, and we thought, well, what a gift for them as well to be able to just travel and see different parts of the world, see the body of Christ in those parts of the world, but also just be immersed in different cultures.

And so we had the privilege to travel a lot throughout the states, but then also internationally, and we thought, well, we're gonna take them with us.

And one of the places we got to go that was one of the most memorable for me many years ago when they were younger, was Cape Town, South Africa.

I was so looking forward to going, and we knew a year in advance that we'd been invited to go there, and so I was looking forward to going.

And since we knew so far in advance, we planned to take our boys.

We thought this might be the only time in our lives that we get to go halfway across the world to this part of the world and to do it together as a family.

So we saved up money for a year, and since I was homeschooled, I planned to get them to look at and consider some stuff that's specific to that area before we went.

So I had them looking online and in books about the apartheid movement and Nelson Mandela and the geographical landscape of Cape Town.

I wanted them to see some animals, animals that were indigenous to that area.

And my goal was that we would look at all that stuff six to eight weeks before, then we would go and they would see it.

I think that these boys thought they were going on vacation.

I made sure they were aware very quickly we are not here for a vacation.

You're gonna see all this stuff.

We're gonna get on this ferry and go across to Robin Island where Nelson Mandela was in prison so that you can see that.

We're going to the apartheid museum.

We're gonna ride this cable car that goes up to the top of Table Mountain so that you can see Cape Town from that perspective.

We're gonna try to see some animals that are indigenous to the area.

We're gonna eat all the food and we're going to enjoy and immerse ourselves in the reason why we're here.

Now, my sons had the nerve to have an attitude problem.

Have you ever done stuff for your kids and they have an attitude problem?

I said, Oh no, you're gonna wake up every day and you're gonna do the things that we have planned today because we're gonna milk this opportunity and you're going to like it.

You're gonna be happy about it, and one day you're gonna rise up and call me blessed.

That's what you're gonna do.

The day when my sons had the biggest attitude problem, I kind of got it on this particular day.

It's because we had to wake up before the sun came up to drive two and a half hours outside of town so that we could take a little half-day safari.

I thought, man, if we're over here, let's try to see some animals we've only ever seen online.

We did the drive, got in an open-faced Jeep, and there was a very, I can see him in my mind's eye, a very bubbly, learned guide that was sitting in front of us, facing us.

We're riding this jeep through the safari park, and he was pointing out a bunch of different animals, groups of them we've already seen before, like zebra and stuff like that.

But then there were some we literally had only ever seen in a book or online.

One of them was the African Impala.

He stopped by a herd of Impala and he pointed out some unique details about the Impala, but this is the part I can't forget.

He said, they are very underwhelming animals.

And most of the time he says, when you see them, they're in captivity.

So they seem real diminutive and like they don't have a lot of power or capability.

But he said, the thing that's unique about an African Impala is that with one jump, they jump 10 feet high and 30 feet forward.

They don't need any running start with no momentum, straight up off the ground, 10 feet high, 30 feet forward.

They have all this power, all this potential, all this capability, but when most people see them when they're not in the wild in captivity, you underestimate them because they're normally housed and held captive behind a three-foot fence line.

So when you see this low-level fence line, you underestimate how much power and potential they really have.

How is it possible that all of that power, all that capability, all that potential can be housed behind something so low level?

It's because the captors of the African Impala know that it will not jump to a place it cannot see.

So all they have to do is block its vision.

You do know we have an enemy trying to block our vision.

You do know, brothers and sisters in Christ, that we've been called to higher level stuff.

So there is an enemy who is trying to block your vision and mind with lower level stuff, so we'll be distracted and our vision will be obscured because as long as our vision is obscured, he knows that there is potential we will never exhibit.

There's power we will never utilize.

There are higher level realities as sons and daughters of a Most High God that we will never ever experience.

The Apostle Paul he writes those letters that your pastor told you to read throughout the course of this month.

He writes those letters because he keeps saying to the believers in the first century, come out from behind all that lower level stuff.

It's time for higher level living.

The book of Colossians is one of my favorite books in the Bible for this reason.

He spends the first two chapters basically saying, Come on up.

He keeps saying all throughout the first chapter in one way or another, in the second chapter, you do know, he says, you've been transferred out of darkness into his marvelous light.

He says, you do know you've been adopted out of lower level stuff to higher level realities.

He says, you do know that grace has been poured out on you, right?

That hopefulness is your story, not hopelessness anymore.

He keeps describing this transfer that salvation allowed for every single person who's a believer in Jesus.

Lower level stuff isn't your reality anymore.

You have to deal with it, but you're not entangled by it because your mind is fixed on things eternal.

Colossians chapter 3, verse 1, he sums it up like this.

Colossians 3:1

He says, Since you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.

If there is one verse that you underline in your Bible, I mean if you still have an old school paper Bible like I do, just old, just old.

Or if you have your electronic Bible and you highlight on your electronic Bible, this is one verse that deserves to be underlined.

It deserves to be highlighted.

Because in this one little simple package, this one little succinct phrase, the apostle Paul highlights everything that it means to be a believer.

He says, You have been raised up.

Lower level stuff doesn't dictate your life anymore, it doesn't govern your choices anymore.

It's not the compass by which you're supposed to live anymore.

Come out from their midst and be ye separated.

He says, Here's the elevated life you've been called to.

You have been raised up.

And being raised up changes everything.

In fact, in one of those other little small letters that he has written, he basically says, Philippians chapter 3, verse 20, you are now a citizen of heaven.

Philippians 3:20

It means your feet are firmly planted on earth.

You and I deal with the realities of earth, but at the same time we're doing that, our minds are fixed on things eternal.

We're citizens of a higher level plane.

We're on earth, but we're in heavenly places.

Two places at the same time.

This means for every single person that has placed faith in Jesus Christ, while we're walking through the regular rhythms of earth and participating in the regular activities of earth and relationships and finances and raising kids and investing in our marriage and building business and cultivating ministry.

Everything that God has given your hands to do, you do it for the glory of God, but you do it while having your mind tethered to eternal realities.

He says, You've been raised up.

Don't be blocked, distracted, detoured by lower level stuff.

He says, because you're a citizen of heaven, heavenly places.

That means this ain't your home.

Like we hear, we just passing through here.

But this is not your home.

That changes and transforms the way that we look at all the stuff of Earth.

And I don't know about you, but I'm kind of glad about it because I don't know if you've noticed or not, but Earth is raggedy.

Earth is a little bit ghetto.

Does anybody know what I mean when I say ghetto?

Like the realities of Earth sometimes can be so disappointing, so discouraging, so heartbreaking, because there's grief and loss and destruction, and there's aging and things are fragile, and our bodies betray us and relationships betray us, and things we put our hope in or thought we'd find significance in or value in, one after the other, they keep falling through.

You need to know that the reason why it's so discouraging, the reason why sometimes life can sting like that, the reason why when someone passes or someone betrays us, the reason why our insides respond the way they do is because you weren't made for here.

You were made for something different.

That's why your whole body and your emotions respond that way.

Because you are a citizen of heaven.

So these things matter, but they can't block your vision from higher-level things.

There's too much power, too much potential, too much perspective that you are supposed to bring to everything that the Lord has assigned to you.

So Paul says, Would you remember you have been raised up?

Do you remember in the year 2020 when we were all at the house?

Everything was shut down.

We couldn't have connection really with other people in person.

This was the year when, if folks weren't using Zoom before that, they were using it this year.

All of a sudden it exploded.

That technology, everybody was using it for all the meetings, all the phone calls with friends, family members we wanted to see.

There were whole conversations we were having in a different environment.

So here we were sitting in our houses.

We loved Zoom because we could be in pajamas on the bottom and something halfway decent on top.

We could also blur out our reality.

So the environment behind us that was chaos, like there was toys everywhere, dishes in the sink.

It was just chaos behind us.

We could just blur it out just a little bit.

And here we were sitting in one completely unique environment.

At the same time, via technology, we are equally present in an entirely different environment.

In some cases, across geographical barriers, across time zone barriers, across language barriers, a completely different place than the place we are currently in.

Two places at the same time.

The apostle Paul says, you're supposed to be in two places at the exact same time.

That while you're operating in one environment, in one place, in one reality, at the exact same time by the Holy Spirit, you are zoomed into heavenly places.

So you are pausing before you say that to check in with heaven.

You are pausing before you post that to check in with heaven.

You are pausing before you leave that comment to check in with heaven.

You are causing pausing before you react like that, before you say that, before you participate in that, before you allow that influence, before you walk down that path, before you agree to that partnership.

You are pausing to check in what would reflect the mind of Christ.

How do I reflect the character of Christ?

How do I make sure that wherever I am, his kingdom comes, his will is done on earth as it is in heaven?

Paul says, Would you remember you have been raised?

What a privilege.

Why wouldn't we take advantage of a privilege like that?

To have access to heavenly places.

Paul says, if then you have been raised up with Christ.

And by the way, can I just open up a little parenthesis right here, real quick?

That first verse starts with a unique phrase.

If then you've been raised up, it's almost like he's trying to convince them.

Now remember, he spent two chapters telling them they raised up.

I assume he was preaching to a bunch of people that are like the folks at Shoreline Church.

Where why, while he's telling them what the raised up, elevated life looks like, that they've been called out of darkness, transferred from the kingdom of darkness, they've been given forgiveness for their sins, that they've been raised up and elevated to heavenly places, that the blood of Jesus has washed them, that they have grace and victory and freedom as their story.

I assume that while he was saying that, folks were saying, Amen.

I would assume that while he was preaching for two chapters, people were lifting up their hands and folks were affirming what it was that he was saying.

It sounded like a big pocket of celebration and affirmation about the goodness of God and transferring them to heavenly places.

So then after two chapters of that preaching, he gets to the first verse of verse three and says, If then you've been raised up, why are you still down there?

He basically says, You're doing all that celebrating for two chapters, but ain't nobody living different after they've celebrated it.

He says, Here you are on a Sunday morning celebrating and affirming what God has called you to.

Why isn't your Monday impacted by your celebration on Sunday?

He says, Come on, if you've been raised up, like it's easy for us to affirm it in here, y'all.

Ain't nobody gonna say anything about you raising your hand or saying amen in here.

The task comes when we leave here.

For those of us who are believers in Jesus Christ, who are supposed to be looking at the realities of heaven and living a higher level life, the reality comes that when we face decisions we have to make about our finances on Monday, about our relationship choices on Tuesday, about our business building on Wednesday, about our entertainment choices on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

Paul says, if you've been raised up, why don't you come out from up underneath there and act like it?

If then you've been raised up, here's what he says, verse 1 and 2.

Keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of the Father.

Set your mind on things above, not on things that are on the earth, for you have died to that, and your life is now hidden in Christ with God.

Listen to his language, shift from what you have been given to now what you've been called to do.

He says there's responsibility in the raised up life.

If then you have been raised up, now he says, keep seeking the things above.

Set your mind, recalibrate your thinking, renew your thought process, build up your spiritual life.

Listen to the intentionality, the deliberateness, the proactivity involved in what I think is one of the most succinct and important definitions of spiritual growth in the entire New Testament.

He says, if then you've been raised up, it's time to grow up.

He says, you have to set your own mind on things eternal.

You have to make a decision to renew your thinking and your behavior so that it calibrates with the higher level life that you have been given.

If then you have been raised up, it's time to grow up, to mature in your face.

It is not going to accidentally happen.

Listen, y'all, it's just like you having a gym membership.

Well, that's nice.

But come on, y'all.

How many of us have had gym memberships and we ain't never been?

Like it's just we have membership, we have access, but unless you show up and actually lift the weights or get on the treadmill or the elliptical machine, then the benefit of the membership doesn't concern you.

It doesn't impact you, it doesn't benefit you.

You're the one who has to show up and actually do the work that your membership affords you.

Paul says, if you've been raised up, keep seeking, keep growing, keep setting your mind on things eternal.

The Holy Spirit's job in us is to sanctify us.

Sanctification is the process by which we are molded into the image of Jesus.

Y'all know that's the whole point, right?

The whole point is to look like Jesus.

What would Jesus do?

What would Jesus say?

What would be his perspective, his purposes, his passions, his pursuits for every area of my life?

Not just the sacred Sunday part.

Nope, for the believer, everything is sacred.

All of my life is everything that I do, I do for the glory of God.

So I want to bring his purposes and plans and perspective to bear in every area of my life.

I want to look like Jesus everywhere I go.

That's sanctification.

The Holy Spirit's work in you is to actually make you look like Jesus.

But you have to cooperate.

And you cooperate by consistently, deliberately, intentionally setting your mind on things eternal.

Being renewed by the Word of God.

Fellowshipping with other believers in the faith where the gift of God's work in you can be fanned because you're amongst other brothers and sisters who are of like mind.

That it matters that we are amongst a pool of people that will help to encourage God's work in us.

So we have to intentionally, proactively, deliberately continue to grow up into the things of God.

So um the boys, we were at the mall.

We were at North Park, because you know North Park is where God lives.

And I remember we were going up the escalator.

They were little.

We're going up the escalator, we have some bags.

We were going up the escalator right there by the movie theater.

You know, you know the one right there, the long one.

And we're going up the escalator, we have bags, and I and I look up over to the boys, I say, Come on, guys, we're going to the second floor.

I didn't think much about it.

I just got on the escalator, I'm going up.

And I just casually glanced behind me and realized I was missing one.

One of them wasn't there.

So I look around a little bit and I look over at the escalator attached to us that is going down.

And there he is, trying to climb up on the down escalator.

It's one of those kids that you see in the mall, and you look at them and go, where are these kids' parents right here?

Who raised this one right here?

Somebody come get this kid.

It was happening to me.

You know when it happens to you and you're like, I'm sorry, y'all.

I raised the kid.

I did, I tried.

So people are coming down, and there he is, trying to walk past them, going up on the down escalator.

So I caught his eye and I gave him the mama eye.

Y'all know that eye your mama give you, that she don't have to say nothing, but you know if you don't straighten up and fly right, it's gonna be on.

So I gave him the eye.

Immediately when he saw my face, he just stopped moving.

I just watched him start coming down.

I realized that it took no effort to go down.

Down.

All he had to do was stop moving.

All he had to do was stop trying.

But when you're standing on something that is in decline, unless you were putting in the sweat equity involved in going up, you are going in the same direction that it's going.

I don't know if y'all have noticed or not, but we are standing on something that's going down.

Have you noticed the moral decline?

Have you noticed the social decline?

Have you noticed the economic decline?

Have you noticed that we're standing on something that is in a steady state of decline?

Unless you and I are consistent and intentional, putting in the sweat equity, getting some skin in the spiritual game, getting some meat on our spiritual bones, being fortified in our face.

Unless we're intentional, we're gonna go in the same direction as the society around us.

This means you can't consume what everybody else consumes.

This means you can't look at what everybody else looks at.

This means, y'all, we can't participate in everything that everyone else is participating in.

They're going down.

You've got to make a decision to set your mind on things above, to make sure that lower level realities aren't dictating your life, blocking your vision, keeping you from actually living to the full potential that you and I have been given in our stature as sons and daughters of the Most High God.

So here's what's gonna happen, y'all.

I'm telling you right now, listen to your auntie Priscilla.

Particularly those of you that are in the room, you in high school, you're a university student, listen to me.

What will happen is as you begin to pursue higher level things, there will be a distaste for lower level things.

Okay.

When we were in South Africa back then, uh one of the things I did without the boys was I did a little hike.

I remember I left them in the hotel and I was like, you know what?

I'm gonna try to hike one of these smaller mountains.

There's table mountains really big.

Then there's another one called Lion's Head.

There's a guy there that is a hiker that I knew.

I said, Hey, will you go with me?

I've never done this before.

I'd love to hike up the mountain.

And he said, Okay, yeah, let's do it.

There were a bunch of strangers and people starting out at the bottom.

It looked like very festive, a lot of tourists like me who wanted to do the same thing.

We started walking just slowly, little path that curves itself around and around Lion's Head Mountain.

We're walking up the mountain, and he had told me to anticipate that the higher we got, the thinner the air would get.

I heard about that, I've heard about that before, uh, but I didn't know what that meant exactly or how it would feel.

All I remember, and I didn't put the dots together when it first started happening, but all I remember is a feeling of disorientation.

I remember that I felt a little bit dizzy, almost faint, that my physical body was not used to that elevation.

So it was responding in a kind of a disoriented way because I wasn't used to that kind of air.

Here's what you need to know: your flesh is not used to the elevated life.

You need to know that the higher you go, there's gonna be disorientation.

You're gonna be in a movie you used to enjoy, but somehow that just don't sit well with you anymore.

There's gonna be a conversation you used to be okay with, but all of a sudden there's something about it that just doesn't feel comfortable to you anymore.

It means that you're gonna be looking at something or enjoying something or participating in something or listening to something, or there are going to be friends and company you would have kept.

And all of a sudden, that engagement and partnership doesn't work for you anymore because the higher you go, the thinner the air becomes.

And your whole body and mind is going to have to recalibrate to the higher level life.

And y'all, the higher we got, the fewer people that were around.

The crowd that was at the bottom was not with us at the top.

Because the higher you go, the fewer people will be with you.

And so if you feel the Lord kind of stripping away a person that worked in one season but don't work in this one, a person that worked at the mid-level life or at the lower level life but ain't going with you to the higher level life, don't hold on tightly, let them go.

You've been called for something more.

If you've been raised up, it's time to grow up.

And then he says in verse 17, and in whatever you do, whether in word or in deed, do it all for the glory of Jesus Christ, giving thanks through him to God the Father.

In whatever you do.

This same verbiage Paul's you Paul uses in another book of the Bible to say pretty much the same thing, but it adds a little layer in there to help us to see how serious he is about this.

He says, in whatever you do, whether you eat or drink, the two most fundamental basic parts of just staying alive.

He says, whatever you do, at whatever level you do it, whether it's the basics, eating and drinking, whether it's building business, whether it's participating in industry, whether it's in ministry, whatever it is you do, your whole goal is supposed to be to show up in that space for the glory of God.

Since you have been raised up, it's time to grow up.

And then as of the people of God, we've got to show up in every space for His glory in whatever you do.

That means ministry is not just for people who stand on a stage with a microphone.

That if you are a son or a daughter of Jesus Christ, you in ministry.

Whatever you do, you're supposed to be doing it for the glory of God.

Like you're supposed to be a walking, breathing billboard in every industry, every arena, every opportunity, every relational encounter, everywhere you go and in everything you do, folks are supposed to know there is a king and he has a kingdom.

And that the way we live wets their appetite to want to meet and and to participate in the elevated life that we display.

Show up for the glory of God, amplify his name.

Be so excellent at your craft that you cannot be denied.

And then when folks give you a seat at the table or you create your own table, you say, Let me just tell you what the real secret of my success is.

It is because I am in relationship with Jesus Christ.

I am a citizen of heaven.

My daddy, who has been my preacher my whole life, my pastor my whole life, he would put it like this He would say, If you're a teacher, you're not just a teacher.

You're God's representative in the educational field.

So that the entire educational field sees what God looks like when God teaches a class.

If you're a lawyer, you're not just a lawyer.

You're God's representative to the bar association, so that the entire bar association gets to see what God looks like when God tries a case.

If you're a doctor, you're not just a doctor.

You are God's representative in the medical field, so that the entire medical field sees what it looks like when God sues a hurting body.

If you're a social justice advocate, you are not just a social justice advocate.

You are God's representative in social justice so that everybody in the community gets to see what God looks like when God brings equity to a culture.

Y'all, if you're in the arts, you're not just in the arts.

Every lyric you write, every poem you pen, every song that you rehearse, every movie script that you bring to production, everything you do, you do as a billboard, you show up as a billboard for the glory of God.

In everything you do.

I'm talking about tomorrow, Monday.

Do it for the glory of God.

Like on your regular Tuesday.

Do it for the glory of God.

Show up in every can you imagine if we all just started showing up for the glory of God and living in light of the elevated life, not entangled by lower level things, but living to our full potential.

Paul says, You have been raised up.

There is a documentary I watched recently.

I'll tell y'all this in closing.

There's a documentary on the late great Michael Jackson.

Y'all know he's a he's a he was a genius, is the bottom line.

Talented genius.

They were interviewing the director of one his one of his most famous videos.

Y'all remember the song, Billy Jean.

And in this video, Michael Jackson is dancing on this pathway, singing and dancing.

Everywhere he steps, the path lights up.

The director was saying how unusual and weird and interesting it was to have to pull this musical genius, this legend aside before the filming and say to him, I recognize, Michael, how talented you are, how gifted you are.

I recognize the fact that you can dance your way around this entire studio.

But you need to know, Mike, that before you got here, me and the other directors, we pre-lit certain squares.

So if you dance all over this entire studio with all your talent on display, then it might look nice, but the path won't light up.

I need you to rein in all of that because as the director, I have gone before you and I have created a path for you that if you will step where you're supposed to step, you're gonna find that the path lights up.

Your entire story is told because I've gone before you and I've pre-lit the path.

Ephesians chapter 2, verse 10.

Ephesians 2:10

Y'all, you serve a God that has gone before you and pre-lit certain squares.

So as you check in with heaven, Lord, would you please give me insight, wisdom, and discernment for the higher level life?

And then will you give me the courage to reign in everything I might want to do and trust you that if I step where you've asked me to, my path is gonna light up with your favor, with your grace, with your goodness, and with your glory in Jesus' name.

Amen.

Bow your heads with me, please.

Lord Jesus, I thank you that you've given us opportunity to live differently.

Thank you that heaven is our home.

Thank you, Father, for the hope of our salvation.

I pray, Lord, that you would make us responsible and courageous to grow up and mature in our relationship with you, to walk in a manner worthy of the calling that you have given us.

In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray.

Amen.

Amen, amen, amen, amen.

Priscilla, I want to say thank you so much for that message.

Thank you, thank you.

Um I do want to give a moment here if you haven't given your heart to Jesus Christ.

You're like, man, I'm just I've been thinking level low, like low level thinking, I've been looking level low, low level thinking.

There we go.

The first step to seeing at a higher perspective is surrendering your heart to Christ.

So I'm gonna ask everybody in the room if you could bow your heads and close your eyes one minute for just a minute here.

If you're here today and you're like, man, I've never surrendered my life to Christ.

And this is your moment where you're like, I know the Holy Spirit is drawing me in, and I know Jesus needs to be first.

Right now, you probably feel the Holy Spirit just working in your heart right now.

And this is your moment to surrender your life to Him.

I'm gonna ask you to do something very simple.

While you're just focusing on your relationship with the Lord, not looking around, but just you and God.

And you want to make Jesus first.

I'm gonna ask you to shoot up your hand on the count of three.

Are you ready?

One, two, three.

Just shoot up your hand saying, Yep, that's me.

It's beautiful.

I see hands going up all over the room.

It's beautiful.

I see it in the back of the balcony, I see it in the balcony, on the floor.

It's beautiful.

It's a holy moment.

It's a holy moment.

Church family, can we do this together?

Can everybody put your hand over your heart?

Say, dear Jesus, thank you for forgiving me all of my sins.

I admit I've made mistakes.

But today, I give you my heart.

I give you my life.
