Giant of Worry

Turn with me to Matthew 6.
-
God gave me this after this broke out.
-
I had another word, I was going to go with salt and light and kind of get it.
-
And then God says, No, you're not.
-
You got to deal with a couple of things that we need to deal with.
-
I said, Yes, sir.
-
And we are because the world is trying to panic again, get all worried.
-
So this morning we're going to look at the giant of worry.
-
Now I know most of you in here do not worry.
-
The problem is we worry too much.
-
Amen.
-
We worry too much and we don't put our trust in who?
-
God.
-
We don't, we don't.
-
In fact, I was thinking about that.
-
So I first of all, let's, in Matthew chapter 6, let me give him a specs.
Matthew 6 chapter mention
-
And listen.
-
In chapter 6, verse 24, listen to what he says.
-
Do not worry about your life, what you will eat, what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on.
-
And then he goes to verse 34.
-
Sufficient for the day is its own troubles.
-
In other words, we worry about yesterday that's past.
-
We worry about tomorrow that's not even here.
-
Don't do that.
-
Just worry about today.
-
No.
-
Hey, not worry about today, but you ought to be concerned about today.
-
Not yesterday, not tomorrow.
-
There's nothing you can do about yesterday, and there's nothing you can do about tomorrow.
-
So he says, we're worrying way too much about things that we can't control.
-
Now watch this.
-
Is that not true?
-
Can we control this epidemic?
-
No.
-
But we get so upset.
-
But let me tell you what the word worry means.
-
It's a Greek word named Marineo.
-
And here's what it means: to strangle or choke.
-
Ooh.
-
It means to have a divided mind.
-
Hello.
-
I thought a minute, a divided mind.
-
And then I thought about James 1.8.
-
A double-minded person is unstable, what?
-
In all his ways.
-
James 1.8.
-
Pretty insightful, isn't it?
-
And then notice what else I found out.
-
To be a worrier is to have your mind divided between legitimate thoughts and thoughts that are not legitimate thoughts, we should not be thinking.
-
Wow.
-
Worry is a kind of mental and emotional strangulation which probably causes more mental and physical afflictions than any other single cause.
-
Wow.
-
High blood pressure, heart attacks, ulcers.
-
Worry is the sin of distrusting the promise and providence of God.
-
Wow.
-
Worry is the opposite of contentment, which should be a believer's normal and consistent state of mind.
-
Why do you think Paul said casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ?
-
We want the right thoughts, not the wrong thoughts, causing that division in our minds which causes worry.
-
Paul put it this way: not that I speak in respect of want, but I've learned in whatsoever state I am to be content.
-
I know how to be abased and I know how to abound.
-
Everywhere in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.
-
I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.
-
Man.
-
Worry is the fruit of unbelief.
-
And unbelief is an insult to an awesome Almighty God.
-
Worry is future focus.
-
Worrying cannot change the future, nor can it control the future.
-
Think about that.
-
And then last definition: worry and anxiety change nothing except the worrier.
-
And it always is negative.
-
Wow.
-
I'd say we have a serious problem with worry, wouldn't you?
-
Amen.
-
I mean, it's very, very dangerous.
-
So today let's look at how we can take on this giant of worry and defeat it.
-
Number one, we must analyze the cause of worry.
-
Now, in this passage in Matthew chapter 6, I love this, the Spirit of God directs our attention to the problem of worry.
Matthew 6 chapter mention
-
This is the whole really theme of this recurring phrase, do not worry.
-
Five times.
-
Verse 25, verse 27, verse 28, verse 31, verse 34.
-
And literally what the author and what Jesus is saying here is we are not to be over careful or over-anxious about anything.
-
What causes worry is that we become over-concerned or over-anxious over things a lot of times we can't even control.
-
You with me?
-
Where again the world's trying to explode and get all upset again against the second strand of the virus coming through.
-
But I got news for you.
-
What can we do?
-
We can do what we know we're supposed to do and stay clean, wash your hands, all that stuff that we were taught the first go around.
-
We're to do that.
-
But we can't control that.
-
Let me tell you, God's in charge.
-
And this is why we gotta analyze.
-
And what I see here, and I really believe this.
-
And by the way, God's not saying, and the Lord's not saying to be thoughtless, but he's saying be thoughtful.
-
There's a big difference.
-
Okay?
-
So with that said, there's the natural causes.
-
Let's look at it.
-
Look at what he says in verse 25.
-
Do not worry about your life, what you will eat, nor what you would drink, nor what you will put on.
-
Do not worry about tomorrow.
-
Look at verse 25.
-
Do not worry about your life.
-
The natural causes.
-
These words reveal the overanxiety is generally due to normal things in life.
-
Do you realize that?
-
We worry about normal things in life.
-
But let me tell you, I did some research.
-
And here's what I see.
-
Our study has suggested in this one study I read that an average person's anxiety focuses on these areas.
-
Are you ready?
-
You might want to write this down.
-
This will help you next time you're in a tizzy.
-
40% we worry about things that will never happen.
-
Hello?
-
Did you just hear what I said?
-
Forty percent of the things we worry about, hey, are never gonna happen.
-
Oh, oh, my daughter's she's gonna have a wreck.
-
My grandmother said, don't worry or think things into being.
-
I never understood that to now.
-
40, 40 percent about things that never happened.
-
30 percent about the past.
-
We worry 30% about the past that's already happened and gone.
-
And it can't be altered.
-
12%, are you ready?
-
This is a good one now, about criticism by others, mostly untrue.
-
Amen.
-
I'm telling you, I've been in, if I'd have listened to every critical thing about me and my ministry, I would have quit 50.
-
Well, I hadn't been at 50 all month.
-
I'd have I would have quit 40 years ago.
-
And by the way, Jesus said, woe unto you if all people speak well of you, Rick, so hang in there, baby.
-
You okay?
-
Luke 6, 26.
-
I never had that problem.
-
They love me and hate me, so I'm there's no middle.
-
But but uh now what's this?
-
And then 10% we worry about health, which gets worse the more we worry.
-
And then, are you ready for this?
-
This is so good.
-
8% about real problems that will be faced.
-
So, out of all the worry, 8% is what's gonna be actual in our lives.
-
Good grief.
-
Boy, has Satan given us a twist, hasn't he?
-
Amen.
-
He loves for us to be worried.
-
All right, let's go.
-
Look, look at the natural cause.
-
We worry about food.
-
Anybody in here like to eat?
-
For you that didn't raise your hand, I'm not gonna comment.
-
We worry about food, we worship it, we won't it, we waste it.
-
In fact, Paul said, think nothing about food.
-
In fact, what he said, whose God is their belly?
-
For a lot of us, our bellies are God.
-
We think more about what we're gonna eat next than what we do about studying the Word of God.
-
Hello, uh oh.
-
Hello, you okay out there?
-
Now, there's a verse here that I do not like.
-
Proverbs 23, 2.
-
Put a knife to your throat.
-
If you are a man given to appetite.
-
Oh my goodness, I've got the best diet you can have.
-
I've got a butcher knife.
-
Put it to your throat when you get ready to eat.
-
Think about that.
-
You know, I'm not as hungry as I thought I was.
-
Did y'all did any of y'all catch that?
-
A butcher knife?
-
I grew up where a knife was a butcher knife.
-
Y'all remember that?
-
But think about that.
-
It's pretty obvious that, hey, we gotta control our appetites, which can end up being a god for us.
-
What about our clothes?
-
Verse 25, do not worry about what you will put on.
-
Oh my goodness.
-
We have people that go out and buy clothes, they buy cars, they buy all kinds of outward uh furnishings and I guess I call it status quo items to oh, look at my pocketbook.
-
Or you they don't say look at it, they just show it, you know.
-
And it's one of those.
-
We were going through a store the other day, and Susan looked over at this pocketbook and she said, Is that pretty?
-
I said, Yeah, that's pretty.
-
Why don't you get it?
-
She says, You know how much it is?
-
I said, Nothings.
-
You know, you're you're worth it.
-
She said, Am I worth$600?
-
I said, Could you go back to the hundred dollar one?
-
But it had the name, you know.
-
But but we try to impress with the outward appearance.
-
1 Samuel 16, 7, the Lord looks not as man looks.
-
Man looks on the outward appearance, God looks on the heart.
-
Amen.
-
Amen.
-
We got to have the latest and the greatest and the newest.
-
It's not that's not what it's all about, folks.
-
What about our health?
-
Look at verse 27.
-
Which of you, by worrying, can add one cubic to a stature.
-
Uh, Adam made reference to this, and most commentators believe that the word cubic here refers to the length of life rather than just a person's height, or it possibly both, but I really believe that it's more fitting in the context of the length of life rather than a person's height.
-
So, medical, and we are so obsessed.
-
Every Facebook, if you're on Facebook, you can't even watch anything without a little commercial part popping up about either there's a thousand different types of medicine for a pain.
-
And if you'll just get on this one, you'll be pay-free.
-
All of those are a lie.
-
I've tried every one of them, I'm still hurting.
-
Don't listen to that, don't buy that, don't start paying$35 for a sugar pill.
-
Don't do that.
-
That's dumb.
-
I know I've done it.
-
I'm dumb.
-
So don't do that.
-
Or they got the cure.
-
This is going.
-
Let me tell you the cure.
-
I'm gonna give you.
-
Are you ready?
-
Guaranteed formula for a good, long, healthy life.
-
You ready?
-
Y'all not ready?
-
I'll charge you$35 a month if you want me to.
-
Are you ready?
-
Okay, watch this.
-
I love it.
-
He says, and it's one of my verses that I pray every morning.
-
I really do.
-
Exodus 23, 25 says, You shall serve the Lord thy God.
-
He will bless thy bread, he will bless your water, and he will take sickness away from you.
-
Now that is guaranteed, and you don't have to pay for it.
-
They won't charge you a credit card every month.
-
Amen.
-
Now let me give you another one.
-
And God gave me this one this morning.
-
Look at Proverbs.
-
Oh, this is so good.
-
And I don't know why I hadn't had these memorized, but I will memorize them this week.
-
Proverbs 4.
-
Listen to this.
-
Ooh, it's so good.
-
It fit God, the Holy Spirit just knocked me out of my chair this morning.
-
Watch this.
-
In Proverbs 4, if I can get to 4.
-
Here we go.
-
Proverbs 4, and I wrote it down 20 through 22.
-
Watch this.
-
Listen, listen.
-
My son.
-
Attend to my words.
-
Same as I just quoted.
-
Incline thy ear unto my sayings.
-
Let them not depart from thy eyes, but keep them in the midst of your heart.
-
Now look at verse 22.
-
For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all thy flesh.
-
Say thank you, Pastor.
-
The word of God is where it is.
-
It's it.
-
That's awesome.
-
And then, hey, our future, verse 34, do not worry about tomorrow.
-
Our future, our future.
-
Do not dwell on your tomorrow's.
-
Do not dwell on your yesterdays.
-
Hey, worry about today.
-
Psalms 118, 24.
-
This is the day the Lord hath made.
-
We will rejoice and be glad in it.
-
Can I get an amen?
-
Today, hey, listen.
-
You may, hey, today may be your last day.
-
My grandmother used to say, Danny boy, this could be your last day.
-
Live this day as if it was your last day for the glory of God.
-
Think about that.
-
Get up this morning and say, Thank you for this day.
-
Let this day, Lord, be a day that I honor and glorify you in everything I do.
-
That's what I said on our whole vacation.
-
Everything we did.
-
I said, God, man, I was, I had my Jesus' awesome on.
-
I have my shirts on.
-
I just honoring him, exalting him.
-
Unbelievable.
-
And then, secondly, there's spiritual causes.
-
Look at verse 30.
-
Jesus summed them up when he said, Oh, yeah a little faith.
-
These words spell out the lack of trust and confidence in God that Jesus detected in his disciples.
-
Basically, this is the cause of fear and worry.
-
When we don't have confidence and trust in God, we have fear.
-
Watch this.
-
Here's a formula.
-
Faith expels fear.
-
Fear, hey, brings worry.
-
You've got a choice.
-
You can fear and worry, or you can walk by faith and let God handle your problems.
-
Amen?
-
Casting all your cares upon him because what?
-
He cares for you.
-
1 Peter 5, 7.
-
And right here in this whole passage in verses 24 through 35, what does he say?
-
If he can take care of the birds and he knows what the birds need, when they need it, how they need it, where to get it, why should we worry?
-
We are so much more profitable and pleasing to God as his, because we're made in his image than the birds or the flowers, the lilies of the valley.
-
He takes care of them.
-
Amen.
-
He knows.
-
He knows what we need, when we need it, how to get it, and how to provide it.
-
How to protect us.
-
He knows.
-
He knows.
-
So A, failure to trust the God of prevision.
-
I love this.
-
Look at verse 32.
-
Jesus said, Your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.
-
Say this with me, church.
-
God knows all I need.
-
Again.
-
Do you really believe that?
-
Amen.
-
So why are you worrying?
-
Why am I worrying?
-
If I really believe that, if you really believe Philippians 4.19, my God shall supply all your needs according to his riches in the Lord through Christ Jesus.
-
Why do we worry?
-
Because we forget we got a daddy, a father, that takes care of us.
-
There is nothing I wouldn't do for my children, even today, after they're grown and gone.
-
I would step in and provide, and I have anything they need, and you have too, because you love them so much.
-
Well, don't you think if we will do that for our children?
-
I'm about to have a running spell.
-
How much more will God the Father do for us?
-
Do you get it, church?
-
Do you get it?
-
Wow.
-
If I was here, he'd say, that's good, preacher.
-
Failure to trust the God of prevision.
-
Then look at what else?
-
Failure to trust the God of provision.
-
Verse 26.
-
Your heavenly father feeds them.
-
Uh-oh.
-
Now, some of you have been working and you think, well, look, I've got to provide for my family.
-
No, you're the instrument God uses to provide for your family.
-
Let's get this in order.
-
Amen.
-
You say, well, yeah, but I work.
-
No, you're not working a job that you got.
-
You're working a job that God allowed you to have.
-
Hello?
-
If you'll get the right thinking, it'll help you keep from worrying.
-
If God has provided that job, if God is providing your provisions, you're not going to worry about your job.
-
You're not going to be trying to hop over here and get a different job every time you get mad or get upset.
-
Preachers are the world worst.
-
They change every two and a half years.
-
Oh, God's leaving me.
-
No, God's not leaving you anywhere.
-
You've just run into Sister Fluffyhead and you're gonna run from her.
-
Yeah, I'm too old to run.
-
And we started it.
-
So I'm not going anywhere.
-
You can use the U-Haul truck, not me.
-
Amen.
-
And I don't mean that ugly.
-
Come on, guys, let's get real.
-
The reason we're so wimpy as a church, and I'm talking about the whole church, is we've allowed Satan to come in and create a divided mind in us.
-
Oh, we're worried here, we're worried there.
-
Hey, instead of saying, if God be for me, who can be against me?
-
Rise up and charge.
-
COVID, we're charging.
-
We haven't stopped and we're not gonna stop.
-
The hardest thing, if Leslie hadn't said we thought we, the hardest thing was for me to close that church that Sunday, but we still had it live.
-
But that was the hardest thing.
-
And it's not because I'm not trying to be health-minded and all that.
-
Bless God, I don't want to give Satan an inch.
-
I'm tired of him winning.
-
Hey, we live in life or death, too.
-
Yes.
-
So, but but then that was the right thing to do.
-
And we did it.
-
I'm glad.
-
You just look out.
-
Hey, if God be for us, who can be against us?
-
Whew.
-
We are trusting God's provision.
-
Listen to what David said.
-
No good thing.
-
Oh, you ready?
-
You ready to have a spell with me?
-
Psalms 84, 11.
-
No good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.
-
Did you hear that?
-
No good thing.
-
Say it with me, church.
-
No good thing.
-
Come on, no good thing.
-
Will he withhold from us that walk uprightly?
-
No good thing.
-
Listen to what else he said.
-
David said, I've been young and now I'm old.
-
Yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken.
-
They've not been forsaken, nor his descendants begging bread.
-
Hey, say this.
-
Say this with me, church.
-
I'm not a beggar.
-
Come on, I'm not a beggar.
-
Woo! You ready?
-
I'm a child of the king.
-
I'm a child of the king.
-
Yes.
-
Paul put it this way.
-
He who did not spare his own son but delivered him up for us all.
-
How shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
-
Say it with me, church.
-
All things.
-
Amen.
-
And Paul put it one other way.
-
God gives us richly all things to enjoy.
-
Amen.
-
Say it with me, church.
-
Things to enjoy.
-
Amen.
-
That's what I'm talking about.
-
God owns everything.
-
He is the God of the lilies that neither toil nor spin, yet are arrayed in garments of glory.
-
He is also the God of men and women, and by his activities of creation, preservation, redemption, makes them the objects of his special care and providing of his mercies.
-
His mercies are new every morning.
-
Great is our faithfulness.
-
Wow.
-
God owns everything, including the universe.
-
Let me help you.
-
I wasn't going to get on this, but I'm going to get on it.
-
Let me help you with this global warning stuff.
-
First of all, there's nothing that we can do that's going to destroy this earth until God wants it destroyed.
-
Can I help you there?
-
So when all this, oh, this has happened, this, listen, no, God's in charge, and everything's just happened.
-
And right now, whether it gets hot, we were up in the north and had 100-degree weather, and everybody said, oh, global warming.
-
And I thought to myself, no, hot, hot, hot.
-
Like they've never had a hundred degrees.
-
I said, come to Alabama.
-
My goodness, come to South Sylvester, Georgia.
-
I grew up in 100-degree weather.
-
That was normal.
-
We even went and played ball during the day.
-
It's one we didn't all die of heat stroke.
-
But we were kind of smart enough to have a big water cooler and we would drink water and throw it on our heads.
-
And sometimes we'd go jump in the pool, come back and play ball again.
-
Now, again, I'm not, I everybody's going to kind of, the preacher's crazy.
-
He's lost his mind.
-
Well, let me give you a verse.
-
This will help you.
-
This is the universe.
-
Psalms 24, verse 1.
-
The earth is the Lord's.
-
Can I get an amen?
-
And all that it contains.
-
The world and those who dwell in it.
-
I think I know who's in charge, and this earth is going to be what it wants and what it is until God says no more.
-
I don't get upset.
-
I don't lose sleep over global warning.
-
Sorry.
-
But what I do start watching are the signs of the times.
-
Now, see, all this stuff's not happening just to say that we're destroying the earth.
-
These things are happening because the Lord's got a plan and the Lord's got a timetable that one day the trumpet's going to sound, and the Lord's going to descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and the trump of God's gonna blow, and we're gonna be raptured out of here.
-
Now, those are the signs I'm looking at.
-
Not that it's gonna destroy the earth.
-
Well, it may, and eventually it will, but we won't be here.
-
Number two.
-
Woo! Why worry?
-
Well, we must avoid the curse of worry.
-
Look at the curse.
-
Look at verse 34.
-
Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
-
In other words, you know what he's saying here?
-
Worry affects the whole man, spirit, soul, and body.
-
What the Savior is emphasizing here is that conflicts of any given day are enough without anticipating conflicts from yesterday and tomorrow.
-
Can I get an amen?
-
Just concentrate today.
-
Yeah, but no, there are no butts, just today.
-
Make it through the day.
-
And when you lay down tonight, say, thank you for another day.
-
Give me a good night's rest.
-
When you wake up in the morning, say, Lord, thank you for another day.
-
This is the day that you've made.
-
I'm gonna rejoice.
-
I'm gonna be glad in it, and help me be a living testimony for you today and let me live as this is my last day for you.
-
Yeah, but preacher, I don't want it to be my last day.
-
Well, I don't either.
-
But you don't know as it appointed unto man wants to die now to this to judge.
-
We don't know.
-
But let's be, let's go out living like, hey, let's go out with a gusto for the glory of God.
-
Amen.
-
Worry defeats our spiritual life.
-
Put it down.
-
Look at what he says in verse 30.
-
Oh, yeah of little faith.
-
Five times.
-
God says, Don't worry here.
-
Five times.
-
I'd say he's trying to send us a message.
-
The disciples were not faithless or unbelieving, but their trust was weak.
-
In moments of anxiety, they lacked the confidence which leads men to rely implicitly, hey, on the love and wisdom of the Father.
-
I look at the examples here or later.
-
When waves threatened to sink their boat on a stormy night, Jesus had to say to his disciples, Why are you so fearful?
-
Oh, ye of little faith in Matthew 8, 26.
-
And then again, Peter began to sink in the waves because of failing to trust the master who had commanded him to step out of the boat.
-
Jesus challenged him.
-
And then he says, Oh, ye little faith, why did you doubt me?
-
Matthew 14, 31.
-
Do you realize Peter didn't have to sink?
-
He could have walked all the way to Jesus.
-
And he could have walked back with Jesus back to the boat.
-
Hello.
-
When I get to heaven, I want to ask Peter that.
-
I want to say, Peter, I mean, you had enough faith to jump.
-
I mean, that would have been the hardest part.
-
Why?
-
Nobody else jumped.
-
And then you jump and you walk it.
-
But you know what?
-
Satan does what he always does.
-
Let me tell you what he did.
-
He got him to take his eyes off Jesus and look at the waves.
-
And what happens when we're walking in victory?
-
Satan will throw any kind of wave at us he can to get our eyes off Jesus.
-
You keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, you'll walk to Jesus.
-
Amen.
-
Amen.
-
And then the second thing.
-
Worry distracts our mental life.
-
Do not worry.
-
Remember what we said about worry?
-
It is the word used here to indicate something which divides, separates, or distracts.
-
Worry wants to divide us, it wants to separate us.
-
It wants to distract us from what God wants in our lives and in our ministry.
-
I'm telling you.
-
But listen, that's it.
-
That's what he says.
-
Do not worry, verse 25.
-
And if you turn to Luke 12, 29, listen.
-
One of the greatest ever, Dr.
-
Martin Lloyd Jones, points out that in the original, in Luke 12, 29, it says, it is the word used to indicate what divides, separates, or distracts us.
-
But here's what he said.
-
He said, It means neither be ye of a doubtful mind.
-
It is a mind which is divided into sections and compartments, which is not functioning as a whole.
-
Now watch this.
-
When worry is stepped into our thinking process, what has happened is Satan is distracting our right thinking.
-
So he knows that our right thinking will lead to our right living and our right actions.
-
So he tries to get us to worry, to divide, to distract, and ultimately to divide us from doing what God wants us to do.
-
Are you with me, Church?
-
That's good.
-
Exactly what he's saying.
-
Here's what he said.
-
Dr.
-
Jones.
-
He said it could well be represented by a bulldog terrier tearing a rag doll to shreds.
-
If this is so, then it is not difficult to understand the mental distractions and breakdowns that are so alarmingly common today.
-
Like a house that is divided against itself, which cannot stand.
-
The mental structures of our personalities give way to collapse.
-
Think about that.
-
Is that not powerful?
-
Is that not powerful?
-
Just remember this.
-
And I thought about this.
-
Number three, worry destroys our physical life.
-
Verse 27.
-
Which of you by worrying can add one cubic to its stature?
-
You can't do it.
-
And I wrote this down.
-
The fact is that worry shortens life instead of prolongs it.
-
It is actively injurious.
-
It really is.
-
In many cases, stomach ulcers, heart disease, high blood pressure.
-
And remember this: the worry which wears the minds, remember it's dividing us, just filling our minds with these distractful and hurtful and all kinds of garbage to make us double-minded.
-
But remember this: the worry which wears out the mind wears out the body.
-
Leads me to the last thing.
-
Analyze, we've analyzed the cause.
-
We've, hey, we've seen how we can avoid the curse.
-
Now let's see how we apply the cure to worry.
-
Ready?
-
Look at verse 33.
-
Jesus stated the cure in no unmistakable terms.
-
He says, Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, all these other things should be added unto you.
-
Watch this.
-
Oh my goodness.
-
But notice in the preceding verse, though, in verse 32, the Gentiles make the object of their pursuit the very things that create worry.
-
In other words, they're worrying about all the worldly things.
-
That's what created their worry.
-
That's very interesting to me.
-
But then he uses the same word, instead of seeking the worldly things, he says, seek first the kingdom of God.
-
We must seek, number one, the reign of God in our lives.
-
Seek first the kingdom of God.
-
In other words, a life of holiness, harmony, and happiness.
-
Amen.
-
Such a kingdom cannot exist in our lives unless God is enthroned in our lives.
-
We cannot overcome worry unless God is enthroned in our lives.
-
Can I get an amen?
-
Can't do it.
-
But we must seek the reign of God in our lives.
-
Listen to what Paul said.
-
The kingdom of God is not food and drink, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.
-
There it is, folks.
-
It's got to be first in every department of our beings.
-
When God is enthroned, what's this?
-
Self is dethroned.
-
Can I get an amen?
-
Then I wrote this.
-
When faith is exalted, fear is excluded.
-
Amen.
-
And when grace has dominion, sin, with all its worry, has no more dominion over us.
-
Man, that's good.
-
So are you prepared to give God first place in your spirit, soul, and body?
-
That's it.
-
And then number two, we must seek the righteousness of God in our lives.
-
Look at it.
-
Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness.
-
Folks, let me tell you something.
-
Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled.
-
When we get into the new building, our new series.
-
Investing in eternity.
-
We're going to the Beatitudes.
-
I'm convinced after reading through those beatitudes this week.
-
I mean this month too.
-
And do another preparation.
-
We invest in eternity.
-
God gives us chapters 5 through 7.
-
The Sermon on the Mount.
-
But those beatitudes are the most important for investing in all that God wants us to be.
-
It really is.
-
So we'll be looking at that.
-
But right here, we must seek the righteousness.
-
Watch this.
-
Now, this is worth you thinking about writing down.
-
While Christ is the essence of this righteousness, okay?
-
The scriptures constitute the exposition of this righteousness.
-
And then the Holy Spirit guarantees the experience of this righteousness.
-
Wow.
-
Christ is the essence of God.
-
The scriptures are the exposition of the way he wants us to live.
-
And the Holy Spirit is the person living inside of us to live it out.
-
Wow.
-
So, in other words, it is the life of God residing in Christ, revealed in the scriptures and realized in us by the Holy Spirit.
-
Is that not good?
-
Which leads us to my last point.
-
We must seek the resources of God in our lives.
-
All these things shall be added unto you.
-
Woo! Amen.
-
Here it is.
-
I wrote it out for you.
-
On your outline.
-
It was so powerful.
-
I said, church has got to have this.
-
The word to our hearts is, here it is, to overcome worry.
-
All right, here's your prescription to go fill.
-
You with me?
-
Here it is.
-
You take it to the doctor.
-
And who's the doctor?
-
The great physician.
-
Jehovah Rapha.
-
You take it to his counter.
-
And here's what you do.
-
The word to our heart is accept God's rule.
-
Accept God's word.
-
Acknowledge God's requirements.
-
Be ye doers of the word.
-
Amen?
-
Be obedient in all things, not some things.
-
And part of being a church attender and not just an attender, but getting involved in your church is top of the list.
-
You can't shortchange God and not be in his house and be involved in his work.
-
Can't.
-
You need to be involved in Bible study.
-
You need to be involved in outreach.
-
You need to be involved in everything we do to this community to be a blessing.
-
And it's going to get bigger.
-
I can promise you.
-
Okay?
-
And then acknowledge God's requirements.
-
Appropriate God's resources.
-
In other words, you've got to live them out.
-
And live in victory with the peace of God guarding our hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
-
Wow.
-
Woo! Hey, and you know the exciting thing about this drug?
-
Hey, you know the exciting thing about this drug?
-
It doesn't cost you anything.
-
It's free.
-
It's free.
-
Can you say it's free?
-
He was wounded for our transgressions.
-
He was bruised for our iniquity.
-
And the chastisement of our peace was upon him.
-
And with his stripes, we are healed.
-
Can I get an amen?
-
Father, we thank.
