Walking in Prayer

Greetings everyone. My name is John Ewart.

I'm the senior pastor at Englewood Baptist Church in

Rocky Mount, NC, and I just want to welcome you to our podcast.

We're so excited to have you join us as we talk about walking

in prayer together. I want to give credit to one of

our church members, Mike Stocks, who actually came up to me after

one of our midweek services and had this great idea about

putting together a podcast to accompany you as you do your

walk. You might be out walking your

dog, you might be walking with a friend or spouse or your

children and just enjoy this. This is going to last for

approximately 30 minutes because here at Inglewood, we believe

that it's our mission to fulfill the mission of God by bringing

glory to Him and joining him and redeeming the nation's.

And one of the ways we do that is to make disciples who not

only love him and love people, but they help fulfill that

mission. And one of the aspects of that

essential discipleship that we believe in is that we need to

abide in, live in, dwell in, and walk in prayer.

So this first episode is going to guide you in about that 30

minute walk. It might be a little longer.

Of course, you can extend this by pausing that yourself if

you'd like to. But if you'll just follow along,

we're going to guide you through various areas of prayer.

So as I hope you're ready to begin and you begin to walk

right now, Pastor Charles, our Pastor of Prayer, is going to

help us with our first area of prayer.

Yes, Pastor John, thank you. It's great to be a part of this.

As we're thinking about walking in prayer, in prayer walking, we

think about, we must think about confession and repentance.

Our desire should be to stay close and clean in our

relationship with God and confession and repentance helps

us to do that. God's Word tells us in Psalms

325I acknowledge my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity.

I said I will confess my transgressions to the Lord, and

you forgave the iniquity of my sin.

So as we see here, confession is to the Lord, but we must

acknowledge our sin to Him. We always think about when we

think about confession, I think we think about first John 19.

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us

of our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Confession is agreeing with God about our sin and seeking

forgiveness and healing on His terms.

When I think about repentance, Pastor John, I think about this

first. Second Chronicles 714 If my

people who are called by my name humble themselves and pray and

seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear

from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

Repentance is turning away from sin, but it's turning to God.

So as we walk, as we pray and thinking about praying for

others, hey, we must allow the Holy Spirit of God to show us if

is there any unconfessed sin because He will show us in our

hearts. I think about Psalms 13923 and

24 where David said search me O God and know my heart, examine

me and my thoughts and see if there be any grievous way in me

and lead me in the way everlasting.

So as we pray and thinking about praying for others, let's take

time in our prayer walk to allow the Holy Spirit to show us if

there's any unconfessed sin, any grievous way in our lives that

would keep us from being close and clean to our Lord.

So take about 4 to 5 minutes now and confess and repent as the

Holy Spirit shows you. The.

The. The.

The. The.

The. Thank you, pastor, for helping

us to be ready not only to pray to God, but to hear from Him as

we confess and repent. And now for the next few

moments, just look around you as you walk, especially if you're

outside. Look at God's creation.

Notice the people that are around you as well as part of

that creation. If you're inside, maybe you're

walking with others and think of them or the others you might see

around you. And I just want you to think for

a moment about how we might praise God and thank God for all

that He has provided us and will provide us.

So for the next few minutes, let's praise God for who He is

and let's thank God for what He has done, what He is doing, and

what He will do. So here's how I think this would

be good. For the next few minutes, I want

you to just finish these sentences, God you are, and

think of a characteristic or an attribute of God for which you

could praise Him. And then after a few moments of

that, finish this sentence. Thank you, God for.

And think of the things in your life that God has blessed you

with or things that you're still seeking from him that you know

and you hope he's going to bring to you.

So spend about the next 4 minutes or so as you're walking

and you're praying, thinking through how you might praise and

thank God. The.

The. The.

The. Wow.

As we think about praying and prayer walking, we cannot help

but think about intercession and supplication.

I think about this verse First Timothy 2, one of two states.

First of all. Then I urge that supplications,

prayers, intercessions, and Thanksgiving be made for all

people, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may

lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every

way. Intercession is the act of

praying on behalf of others, seeking God's intervention and

blessings for their needs. You can say that we are standing

in the gap on behalf of others. Prayer.

Walking is really a method of intercession, intercessory

prayer that involves praying on location, praying on sight with

insight. The Lord shows us as we walk the

streets, our neighborhoods, wherever we're walking.

He shows us things, He shows us about the people.

As we look around and we may see a ramp, A handicap ramp, we may

see toys or bicycles in the yard, and God begins to just

stir in our hearts how to intercede for those that we may

not even know their name. Then we think about

supplication. Supplication is a form of humble

and earnest prayer where believers us present our needs

and requests to God. But prayer, walking and walking

in prayer is, especially as we walk the streets.

It's about intercessory prayer. Pastor John, would you like to

add anything? Yeah.

Just to remember that as you are looking around and you see these

homes or businesses or a school or maybe even a government

building or a park, just think about some of these

institutional prayer requests that you might lift up.

Think about praying over that church that you walked by or

praying over that school that you walked by.

And so in intercession, as we're thinking of others, I always

want us to think about the lost people around us and those who

don't know Christ. But then also feel free.

God tells us to come to us with a sense of boldness that means

complete honesty to the throne of grace with the things that

are on our hearts. He already knows they're there.

So just reveal them to them. Be honest with him.

Demonstrate your faith to him that you believe he's listening

and that he's actually going to act on your behalf.

And so I hope that you'll joyfully and, and, and

expectantly now walk for about the next 9 or 10 minutes even to

pray and ask God for these things.
