  1. Hey everybody, this is John, your senior pastor at Englewood

  2. Baptist Church in Rocky Mountain, North Carolina.

  3. Thanks for joining us for this episode.

  4. I hope that you're listening across our spectrum of podcasts.

  5. We're trying to record several things for you to give a a

  6. varied menu, everything from prayer to Bible study.

  7. We also have our sermons and our midweek Bible studies on podcast

  8. as well. So I hope that you're tuning in

  9. and listening to some of these these episodes that we're doing.

  10. We have various guests who come in and and work with us today.

  11. Today we're going to do an interesting podcast.

  12. We're going to do a podcast about podcasts, which is a

  13. little ironic because if you can find this podcast to listen to

  14. this podcast, I don't know why you need help finding other

  15. podcasts in order to listen to those podcasts, but perhaps you

  16. still do. But we're also going to talk

  17. about why podcasts in the 1st place.

  18. There are millions of them. I shared with you in a previous

  19. episode, how many podcasts exist in the world today?

  20. I mean, there are millions and millions of them.

  21. And why in the world are we doing this?

  22. And I'll be honest with you, one of the main reasons we do this

  23. here at Inglewood is because our members sometimes need

  24. supplemental material to listen to you.

  25. Also, we have folks who serve in so many different areas that

  26. sometimes they miss some of the teaching that we might be

  27. conducting and some of our normal weekly experiences as

  28. well. So we want to make sure they

  29. have the opportunity to hear that.

  30. But we've also heard from people outside the church who are being

  31. blessed by it. So we're thankful for that and

  32. we hope that you enjoy this time.

  33. If if nothing else, you're going to learn why we at Inglewood are

  34. doing podcast. I have with me in the studio.

  35. Justin Long's always with us run the show, which we always

  36. appreciate. Justin, he would just waved at

  37. you. But we also have with us our

  38. director of communication, Avery Garrett's with us.

  39. Welcome. Thanks for having me.

  40. And then my administrative assistant who actually, I think,

  41. runs my life and everything else, Michelle Farrell.

  42. Thank you for having us. And these two work together a

  43. lot in my office to help tell the story of Englewood and

  44. Avery. Why in the world does a church

  45. need an Office of Communication? Do you have anything?

  46. Any thoughts about that? I think the church needs a

  47. communications office to create the story of Englewood and to

  48. bring awareness of the events and all the things we have going

  49. on. It helps keep things organized

  50. and us on the same page. We also have, you know, in

  51. today's world we, you know, obviously have web pages and

  52. social media platforms, apps, etcetera that that our our

  53. members use. And you can also access us who

  54. are very much aware of the fact that when we have visitors,

  55. they're often looking at us through those portals first

  56. before they physically show up. So what use are some of those?

  57. What what what are what are the usefulness of apps, emails,

  58. social media, web presence, podcasts, etcetera for

  59. Englewood? They help communicate the

  60. mission and vision as well as reaching people in places they

  61. are every day. We are a part of a tech savvy

  62. world, so it's important for the church to have a presence in

  63. these places and it allows people to find information

  64. easily and quickly. Michelle, you've been at the

  65. church for a long time. So over the years the church

  66. didn't always have these things, correct.

  67. So have you, have you sensed from any of our people or or any

  68. outside people about the usefulness of these things?

  69. Yes, I think it's, it's very helpful.

  70. For one, they don't have to wait until they arrive at church on

  71. Sunday morning to get the information that they're looking

  72. for. It's as we say, at their

  73. fingertips and so and there's just so many different avenues

  74. and options for them to to receive their communication and

  75. news from the church. And there is a story that we're

  76. trying to tell. We have we have mission

  77. statements and vision statements and various goals.

  78. We have wall art and logos and things like that.

  79. You can come to Inglewood and probably get a ball cap or a

  80. T-shirt, but but there's a story behind all of that symbolism and

  81. those statements that we make. Avery, what do you think the

  82. story is that we're trying to tell?

  83. I think it ultimately boils down to the transformative power of

  84. Jesus and how that changes how we live our lives.

  85. And, and Michelle, think about, think about it over the years,

  86. has that story ever changed here or has that been pretty

  87. consistent? No, the story has not changed.

  88. We have always saw the Lord's will and purpose to to glorify

  89. Him through our lives and through the body of believers of

  90. Inglewood. The faces have changed, of

  91. course over the years quite a bit, but I say the story remains

  92. the same because we consistently strive to to live and be

  93. disciples who share God's story above our own.

  94. And it's always interesting to me because, you know, I have a

  95. background in church consulting and so I've just been exposed to

  96. a lot of churches. You see a lot of statements and

  97. bumper stickers and banners and, and bulletin headers and things

  98. like that. But you know, and, and you ask

  99. people, you know, describe your church to me.

  100. You know, what are the five words you'd use to describe your

  101. church? And so you, you have things like

  102. friendly and prayerful or missions minded or different

  103. things like that. But sometimes those things are

  104. hard to communicate with people who don't, or it's hard to

  105. convince people those things are actually true until they

  106. actually come and visit. And so the impressions, which

  107. are often the first impressions that we make are through these

  108. portals, especially in our world today.

  109. So, so Avery, how do you think we're trying to tell that story?

  110. I think we're trying to do it through testimonials, live

  111. capture of all the events that we have, just to share the story

  112. and the impact that they have on people and why others should

  113. come. Yeah, didn't take the place of a

  114. hug, but, but, but if we can create a, if we could create a

  115. digital hug, you know, a little bit along the way, but also the

  116. seriousness of the message that we stand for and, and and and.

  117. Are there any new ways that we think we need to adapt?

  118. Are there some new ways coming up that we need to talk about

  119. that that maybe we could reach out in a better way?

  120. I think more multi generational concepts could be coming into

  121. play, getting the students involved and just interacting

  122. with the adults. And then obviously more

  123. testimonials, but probably through video.

  124. Because it is interesting, you know, if, if, and I'm going to

  125. put this as a test so y'all get ready.

  126. Justin can come in from a distance if he wants to.

  127. But if I were to ask you, you know, one or two words to

  128. describe Inglewood, one of the strengths of Inglewood, which is

  129. interesting and sometimes people don't see it as a strength, but

  130. it is, it's our multi generational dynamic.

  131. And the fact that, you know, some people look at us and

  132. they'll, they'll, you know, if they're from a if they're from a

  133. church made real college kids, they're going to think we're an

  134. old church, but we're, we're a balanced church.

  135. And so we have a lot of kids, we have a lot of students, we have

  136. a lot of their parents and then we have senior adults.

  137. So we have all these generations, which I I love

  138. because I think you get the the wisdom and the exposure to the

  139. older Christians who bring us a stable, balanced perspective at

  140. times. But you also have the energy of

  141. the younger folks. And so if you're looking for a

  142. family church, a multi generational church, you'll need

  143. to come to Englewood. You all throw a word out.

  144. Englewood is what any word from the past or the present I was.

  145. Going to say well-rounded. Yeah, that's good.

  146. We're known for a couple of things.

  147. I think we're known for our missions efforts and mindedness.

  148. We have several missionaries who have gone out and are still out

  149. from the church. We do multiple mission trips

  150. every year. We're involved in both North

  151. American and international missions.

  152. What are other adjectives? Michelle, you got an adjective

  153. for Inglewood. I think within the community

  154. we're known as a friendly body of believers and people who love

  155. genuinely love one another and as a family and love our

  156. community and desire to serve it well.

  157. Yeah, and we're, we're in, we're a church known for its, I'll use

  158. the word conservative, I guess, perspective on the Word of God.

  159. We believe in the inerrancy of God's Word and we and we teach

  160. it and preach it very expositionally and exegetically

  161. here in both our small groups and in our pulpit time.

  162. And so part of that's the story, you know, part of that.

  163. How do you communicate that on a website or how do you

  164. communicate that in a social media post?

  165. And, and again, the idea of testimonials and reflecting on

  166. live experiences are going to be helpful.

  167. So one of the things that we want to do is we're, we're going

  168. to actually walk you through and I'm going to be quiet for a

  169. while and let these two ladies really take over.

  170. How do you access all that we offer in the digital realm?

  171. And so I don't know, Avery, you're going to go first or is

  172. Michelle Michelle's going to go first?

  173. I got the signal. Well, there are many, many on

  174. ramps to reaching all the options that we have to

  175. communicate. One of those of course is our

  176. website. You know, websites have been

  177. around for a long time. Pretty much everybody now are

  178. very familiar with those. Our our website address is Ingle

  179. www.inglewoodbaptist.com And from there you can click any tab

  180. and find out any information that you need to know what about

  181. Inglewood from if you're a brand new guest, we have a way that

  182. you can walk through and learn where would you take your

  183. children on Sunday? Where should you park on Sunday

  184. was how do people dress at Inglewood on Sunday?

  185. So that's, that's very helpful. We also have a church app that

  186. we probably had now for maybe 8-8 or nine years.

  187. I guess that's something that I personally love is very helpful

  188. and it's it's very easy to use and you can access any and all

  189. information about Englewood there as well.

  190. To find our church app, you can go into your favorite App Store

  191. and the name of our app is EBC Rocky Mt.

  192. So just search that in your App Store and download it and you'll

  193. be moving on towards finding out all things Inglewood.

  194. The other Ave. that we rely heavily on in our culture is

  195. social media. And here at Inglewood Baptist,

  196. we have chosen to focus our social media efforts on Facebook

  197. and Instagram as our main platforms for which we post

  198. content on. And you can find us on Facebook

  199. and Instagram as well at by searching EBC Rocky Mt When you

  200. do find us and follow us to stay up to date on everything that's

  201. happening around Inglewood and how we're telling our story and

  202. sharing testimonies that Avery mentioned earlier, all for the

  203. one purpose of sharing the gospel and the you can also, if

  204. you would follow us. And we also love it when you

  205. also share our post that helps helps us greatly to get our

  206. message out into further reaches of the the the world.

  207. So, and then also the the hot topic on tap today is podcast.

  208. You can find podcast on our app. You can find podcast on our

  209. website. You can find our podcast on your

  210. favorite podcast player. So there's just many, many

  211. options for reaching those things.

  212. And I guess it really boils down to what what's your individual

  213. preference for how you seek those things?

  214. But I strongly encourage you to at least try one and find it,

  215. and whatever you're comfortable with, use that.

  216. And for some of you who might be listening to this outside the

  217. church, you know, when I mentioned earlier, we're multi

  218. generational, you know, it, there are generational

  219. perspectives on communication and and generational

  220. perspectives on digital usage and platforms, etcetera.

  221. But it's been it's been interesting to me anyway, I

  222. haven't sensed and I'm sure maybe at one point there was

  223. before my arrival here. But you know, we, we have senior

  224. adults and they and they've adapted fairly well, I feel like

  225. to digital communication. And so even internally within

  226. your church, we don't do, I mean, we don't do any hard copy

  227. Mailer unless it would be a rare exception.

  228. And I know that may just seem like a dust statement to some of

  229. you hearing this, but for some churches, it's not.

  230. And to be able to make that transition to where you can get

  231. information out much faster and much easier and obviously much

  232. cheaper in ways. And so, yeah, even even even the

  233. old fashioned way of e-mail at this point, because e-mail and

  234. Facebook are old fashioned at this point to a lot of

  235. generations. But for a multi generational

  236. church, they're still grandma's way of keeping up with the

  237. grandkids. And so we try to utilize all the

  238. platforms that we can. Avery, you got anything to add

  239. to that? I can walk people through the

  240. easiest way to find the podcast and if they're going to use a

  241. podcast platform, how to get to where they're going.

  242. The easiest way to find podcasts is to go to our app and you look

  243. under the media tab at the bottom and navigate to the

  244. Listen on Demand section of that page.

  245. And then you'll be able to pull up all the past podcast sermons

  246. by series. And they're all organized by

  247. date, so it's easier to find information there.

  248. But if you prefer using a podcast platform, the easiest

  249. way to find Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights is to search

  250. Inglewood Baptist Church and they all populate there and

  251. you'll have to scroll to find the episode you're looking for.

  252. But for the special series, you will will have to search that

  253. series by its name to find that podcast since it's not part of

  254. the Sunday and Wednesday night platform.

  255. So again, you might find it interesting that we're doing a

  256. podcast about how to find podcasts on a podcast where

  257. people should already be able to find the podcast in order to

  258. learn about podcast. But what we're going to do,

  259. believe it or not, is we're going to advertise how to get to

  260. this episode of a podcast very specifically so that then they

  261. can follow the rest of this to get to the other podcast.

  262. Because I'm not sure about you, but I want people to cast their

  263. pods. And so I hope, I hope that this

  264. makes sense to you and, and I hope that the questions that we

  265. often get on where can I find that podcast can finally be

  266. answered a once and for all. And so I appreciate so much you

  267. all helping out and thanks for all that you do.

  268. If anybody really wants to know behind the scenes at Inglewood

  269. and how things really work, these three people are key parts

  270. of that and they're appreciated very much.

  271. And I hope you'll join us for other episodes.

  272. Seriously, we have all kinds of teaching.

  273. I'm getting ready to do a series in the Book of Romans coming up,

  274. and also a series on heaven, hell, and the hereafter that

  275. you'll enjoy. We're going to talk about what

  276. happens the second that you die and what happens for eternity.

  277. So we're going to be talking about that coming up and some

  278. episodes coming your way. So thanks for joining us.

  279. If you're in the area and you don't have a home church, come

  280. see us at Inglewood on Sundays at 9:15 or 10:45.

  281. We'd love to see you come up and introduce yourself to me and

  282. tell you tell me that you heard me on this podcast.

  283. Thanks for joining us.
