The Spirit-Filled Life: A Deep Dive into Faith

Well, hallelujah.

I'm glad to get to be back at Heritage Baptist Church.

Some of you are.

You.

You remember time periods.

I. I'm not one of those people.

Like some people say, hey, back in double alt one.

I remember when we did this.

Some of you don't know what double ought one is.

That's too bad for you.

But anyway, I know this is my fourth or fifth time to be here.

I don't know, but I've been coming about every three years in

August and I'm grateful to be here.

I am aware that things are unique at Heritage Baptist Church

and I've been urged by the Lord and by leadership here and so

on that yes, it's appropriate and it's proper for you to be here.

We want to hear from God.

We want to hear God's word.

We want to want you to be here.

And so I'm grateful that I get to be here with you.

I'm thankful some of you have memory of me and they're good and

some of you have memories of me that are different.

But anyway, I'm glad you're here today and I hope that you'll

be back tonight at 6.

I want to the song that Ms. Caitlin just sang.

Tonight I'm going to preach what we call our testimony.

My wife was in a terrible car crash 37 years ago this month.

She was in a coma over 50 days, in the hospital about six months

and so in a wheelchair for a year.

And so years ago, 35 years ago, so on.

I preached concerning our testimony quite a bit.

Well, I haven't preached it in a long time, but the Lord prompted

my heart to write the story down about what happened to us 36

years ago.

And I am almost done.

I'm getting very close to the end of writing the book.

And so tonight will be the.

Either the sixth or the seventh time that I preach this and

this calendar year.

And I'm going to preach about why.

What is God doing when horrible things happen?

What's going on when there's an assassination?

What's going on when there's disease, heartbreak, when there's

wickedness like theft or murder or rape?

What is that about?

What is God?

Is he involved in it?

What's going on?

I believe the Bible tells us there's four particular specific

reasons.

This is why he's.

This is why it's going on.

Sometimes it's more than one of them, but often it's just one

of those reasons.

And I'll explain that tonight.

And then there's Three responses that humans have, all of

us.

You're going to respond one, one of these three ways.

That's the only responses there are.

And so there are three of them.

I believe that many people go through all three, and so it's not

just one of them, but you could just go through one of them.

And so I look forward to trying to get that across to you

tonight.

My wife Nancy is not in the room right now.

She's in the other room at the hotel.

Anyway, she will be here tonight if I have to duct tape her.

She's coming tonight.

Oh, she had.

Yesterday morning she had a knee replacement about him.

Oh, see August two months ago.

And so she stumbles and she doesn't have good balance.

She uses a wheelchair.

Going from the bedroom to the bathrooms always has a.

Not a wheelchair, a walker.

And anyway, since her surgery yesterday morning, she fell in our

bedroom and that was her third time to fall since the knee surgery.

So she just is a wobbler.

I don't know what to do with her.

So I looked into buying Bubble Pack and I don't know if I want to

invest in Bubble Pack or not, but anyway.

But she fell yesterday morning before we left home to come down.

And then she's.

She's sore, she's bruised up.

But also this morning she had a little bit of stomach trouble.

But I really believe she'll be here tonight.

I hope that you'll be here because you that know her want to

see her and you that don't know her, you'll be glad that you

get to see her.

She's a blessing.

And so.

All right, now let me tell you what my intent to preach this week

will be.

I'm going to preach concerning what we call, and the Bible would

even call it this, the Spirit filled life.

The Spirit filled life.

Now I know where I'm standing.

I know what kind of church I'm in.

This is the kind of churches I hang out with and so on.

And here's the deal.

We believe in the Spirit filled life.

Okay?

Seven of you do.

That's good.

So we believe in the Spirit filled life.

We know it's in the Bible that's there.

We're supposed to be spirit filled.

We know that.

We believe in it.

We just don't talk about it.

I'm serious.

I would be totally surprised if there's.

If it happened to one of you, just one person in this room.

But I'm pretty sure it's not happened to any of you that you've

had somebody walk up to you, look you in the eyeball and ask you

this question.

Are.

Are you spirit filled right now?

I'm pretty sure no one's asked you that question that second half

of that.

You've not asked anybody that question either.

In some ways, if someone were to ask us if we were spirit filled,

we would be going, hey, that's a little personal, don't you think?

Back off a little or we might even do this.

Well, Yeah, yeah, I am.

And then they go, how do you know?

You go, there you go again, being a little personal, aren't you?

So are you spirit filled right now?

And I don't.

I just know this about us.

We believe we should be and we could be.

But if we say yes, then we're bragging.

So maybe I shouldn't say yes.

But is it in the Bible or not?

And it is.

If you'll come.

I already know some of you are not going to come tonight.

You're not going to come Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday.

I already know that.

I've been in church my whole life.

But if you will come, I will promise you when Wednesday night

is done, you will have an awareness.

If you are or not.

You will know when you are and when you're not.

And you will know how to be how to come about to be spirit filled.

So since some of you are in your little tiny brain right now,

are going, all right, when I got saved, I got the Holy Spirit.

I'm spirit filled ever since.

If that's what you believe, then you're missing out what the

Bible says because the Bible gives instructions to be spirit filled

to believers.

So the Bible would not give the instruction to be spirit filled

if you're always spirit filled.

So duh, you need to come to the services.

You say, well I can't come.

Well why?

Well I'll be in the hospital.

Good reason.

You say, well I can't get there at seven o'.

Clock.

I wouldn't be able to get there till eight.

I'll still be preaching.

Come at eight.

Come when you can, just come when you can.

He said, well I can't stay till 8:30.

Well leave when you have to.

It's okay you and God know about that.

But just don't pass it off as if it's unimportant.

Already know.

I've been in church my whole life.

Some of you go, oh I'm not coming.

I don't care what you say.

Well if you're born again, you're supposed to be saved.

The Holy Spirit lives in you.

You're supposed to be spirit filled.

And if you have zero interest in being spirit filled, you might

check whether or not you're really saved or not.

Sorry, I just think it's all real.

I don't think it's make believe.

I think the Bible is real.

What God is doing in us is true.

I don't think it's make believe we should want.

We should be hungry to know about it.

It's been two and a half years ago that God introduced me to this

spirit filled life where I can talk about it and preach about it.

I'll just go ahead and tell you my I'm going to give my testimony

Tuesday night about it.

But my Christian life has been like this.

Spirit filled, not spirit filled.

Maybe spirit filled, I don't know, maybe not spirit filled my

Christian life and I've spent more time not spirit filled than

I have spirit filled.

I'm ashamed, I'm embarrassed about it.

But now at least I have a handle on it to know whether or not

I am.

I have an idea and an awareness about it and I want so

badly want to teach it and preach it to you.

I hope that you'll make every effort to be here for the services

Last night I told Pastor Weatherby what I was going to preach.

And he goes, that's the key.

That's the key to everything.

And it truly is.

You got marital problems.

It's the key.

You got kid problems, it's the key.

You got church problems, it's the key.

It's the key to everything.

It changes everything in her life.

All right, I need to get to preaching.

I haven't been preaching yet, so if you're able, would you stand

with me, please?

I hope you have Psalm 139.

I do ask people to stand.

I've been doing that for now, 40 years.

Wow.

I ask you to stand to remind you and me that we all should give

reverence to the eternal infallible, inerrant.

It's the perfect preserved word of the living God.

You're giving honor to this book, not to me.

But I think we should just honor this as much more than we do

our flag.

I'm grateful for God's word.

All right, then you have Psalm 139.

Just hang on just a second.

I want to read two verses to you.

I'm going to read pieces of three verses to you out of Genesis.

Just listen to it.

And God said, let us make man in our image.

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created

He him.

Male and female created he them.

And God saw everything that he had made.

And behold, it was very good.

Look at Psalm 139 now, verse 14.

I will praise thee, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.

Marvelous are thy works, and that my soul knoweth right well.

My substance was not hid from thee when I was made in secret and

curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.

Look up here.

Let me talk about that a second.

When it says that we were not hid from him, curiously wrought in

the lowest parts of the earth.

All commentators, all scientists, theologians would say,

this is speaking of the moment of conception.

At the moment of conception, God was involved in it.

He was there.

He's the one that fearfully and wonderfully made us.

It's a hallelujah.

Listen to what Jesus said to Nicodemus.

Just listen.

Jesus said to Nicodemus, he says, hey, hey, hey.

That which is born of flesh is flesh.

That which is born of a spirit is spirit.

Evidently there's a difference.

Just because I'm the preacher and I want to say it, I'm going to

quote to you a verse from Romance.

Listen to this verse.

Nay, but O man, who art thou that replies against God?

For shall the thing Formed.

Say to him that formed it, why hast thou made me thus?

Oh, it's so true.

There's no humans in this room.

There's no humans on the planet that go, he made me perfect.

I'm awesome.

I can't believe everything about me is perfect.

No.

Some people, their eyebrow.

One's eyebrow's a little taller than the other.

They don't like how their ear is or their chin.

I just hate my chin.

I hate my chin.

Oh, my snails.

If my.

This is such a big thing.

What can I do with this?

I don't like my hair.

My hair is kinky.

I don't like kinky hair.

I don't want straight hair.

I hate straight hair.

I wish I had some.

I wish I had some hair.

People.

There's nobody.

Even the most beautiful people on the planet get airbrushed.

And it's amazing how many of us know what airbrushed is.

Everybody would change something.

God changed my Life.

I was 22 or 23.

I met a man that said, if you're not happy with how God met

you, how God made you, if you're still disappointed with how

you look, what family you're in, if you're still disappointed

with how he made you, you will never be totally right with God until

you can tell God, thank you.

You're the one that made me thus.

I was born with what street name is called the hair lip, cleft

lip, and a cleft palate.

And I was made fun of as a child in high school and junior high

and so on.

But I didn't like how I was made.

I've got five brothers, and none of them got my problem.

I thought, God, they should.

He's the weirdo.

He's the one that should be looking like this, not me.

And I finally got to the place where I said, God, thank you.

You made me this way.

I say, when I was in my mother's womb, God came down and

took his finger and touched me right underneath the nose.

And he made me special.

Let's pray.

Our great God, I sure love you.

Thank you.

That you love me.

You love us.

Thank you.

That you prove that you love us.

I pray we'd accept that.

Acknowledge it.

God, you know all about what's going on at Heritage Baptist Church.

You also know that it's been on the schedule for me to come for

almost three years.

And you knew how things were going to be.

You knew what you were going to be doing in my life.

This is not surprising to you.

I believe you've ordered It.

And I pray that you give me unction and power to proclaim, to

teach, to preach your word and that we would be willing receivers

and willing hearers.

And we'll yield to whatever you have for us.

If someone's not yet born again, they're not saved.

Well, you knew about that too.

So I want to tell you, thank you that you've given these folks

another opportunity to be forgiven.

I pray they would even want to do that today.

So we sure love you, Jesus.

Can't wait to see you.

It's in your mighty and holy name we pray.

You may be seated.

Well, it's obvious God's the creator.

He made us.

He is the giver of life.

It's also true we're all unique.

There's nobody just alike.

Even identical twins are not 100% alike.

We're all unique.

We're different.

We have different fingerprints, different DNA.

We have the retina thingy and the eyeball is different.

And all of us, we're unique.

Our makeup is different.

Some people are left brained, some people are right brained.

Some people have a tendency toward music and they just have the

ability to.

It just is part of them.

It just is amazing to me.

You get a six year old, a five year old to sit down at the piano

and they start, start actually playing a tune.

What is that about?

That's not fair to anybody.

Little goobers, they don't even know what they're doing and

yet they have this ability.

Then others of you have a tendency toward music that you didn't,

you weren't, you know, like a savant, but you grew into it and

you've worked hard and you prepare, you practice and you get

to enjoy the blessing of music.

Whether it be a instrument, whatever that is, or singing, it's

a blessing.

Some people are gifted to sing it and love to do it.

Other people are not gifted to sing it, but we love to hear it.

We're all unique.

We're different.

Some people are very good with numbers.

Just give them the numbers and the numbers come together and they

get it all together.

Some people are very good in athletics.

Some people are good at building.

You give them some wood and saw and nails and stuff and they

can put stuff together and you go, how do you know how to do that?

This pulpit being built, how do they do that?

You know?

Well, they learned and all that stuff, but my dad's a carpenter,

but I never could do any of this stuff.

I could tear up stuff, but I don't build Anything.

Some people are very good mechanically.

They don't even have to do the book work.

They just know it.

I just met a guy that works for an airplane company.

He's never had education from college or high school, but he is

in charge of all the upkeep of the airplane motors and engines and

stuff.

It's incredible.

Some people are just gifted like that.

Some are gifted.

Whether you're saved or not, it doesn't matter.

Everybody's born.

Listen with natural gifts and abilities.

Everybody has them.

And since I'm talking about it, we might as well do it now.

Is that God created all humanity, all of mankind.

He created us to bring him glory.

Isaiah speaks of that.

We're all humanity.

When you're.

When that baby comes here, they're supposed to.

What the goal was, was them to bring glory to God also.

God created us to fellowship with Him.

He wanted fellowship with us not because he needs it, but that's

how he made us.

That we would bring him glory and we would like communicate, talk

fellowship with God.

It's incredible that God made you for those reasons.

Wow.

This God given talent, abilities and personalities that

we have.

So here's a.

This is a little illustration.

How do we.

How do we have worth?

How does a natural human have worth?

How do we have value?

So if there were a workbench up here and there were a hammer on

the workbench and someone came along and picked up the hammer and

built a widow a home, that hammer would have great value.

Someone else came along and picked up the hammer and bashed somebody's

head in.

Not the same kind of value.

Depends on whose hand it's in.

Depends on who the Source is.

When we as humans, what our source is, do we bring glory to God,

that's why he created us, or do we ignore him and not bring glory

to Him?

Depends on who the source is.

Who.

Whose hand we're in.

So let's.

I want to work on that.

All humanity starts off with this unique natural self gifts, talents

and abilities that are God given.

But in this natural condition we're under the control of what the

Bible, how we would define it Anyway, all of natural humans, we

are born with the Adam nature.

Adam.

The Adam nature.

Amen.

What does that mean?

Well, we're all born sinners.

Amen.

So here's.

If you want to sound more intellectual and theological, here's

how to say it.

All humans, naturally we are born with the Adamic nature.

Doesn't that sound intellectual to you?

It does to me.

We're all born with the Adamic nature.

And that's the condition that all.

All humans, every child born, is born with the Adamic nature.

The Bible says we're all sinners.

Amen.

So we get that in our head when Jesus said, that which is born

of flesh is flesh.

That's what he's talking about, the Adamic nature.

That's the condition we are born in.

In fact, the Bible even says it like this.

We're born dead in trespasses and sins.

What?

Some of you can remember back to Genesis, when God said, the day

thou eatest thereof, thou shalt surely die.

Did Adam and Eve eat the fruit?

Yeah.

Did they fall down dead on the ground?

No.

Did they die?

Yes.

What does that mean?

That's why Jesus told Nicodemus, ye must be born again.

Because all humans are born naturally.

Look.

Body, soul.

And dead.

Spiritually dead spirit.

When a person is born again, dead, they don't get born again.

Their flesh, their dead spirit is revived, is made alive.

That which was dead is now alive.

Is everybody with me?

That which was born of flesh is flesh.

That which was born of spirit is spirit.

So all.

All of us start off same, same natural, unique self.

Oh, we've got talents, gifts and abilities, but we're born dead

spiritually.

Watch.

That means we have no access to God.

We can't fellowship with him.

Why?

Because that which is holy does not fellowship with that which

is unholy.

He's holy.

You're not.

Amen.

So that's why ye must.

Jesus said, be born, born again.

Your dead spirit needs to be regenerated, made alive.

Wowzer.

All right, so we didn't do it.

Turn to Romans 8.

Let me show you verse 7.

Because the carnal mind is enmity against God for it.

The carnal mind is not subject to the law of God.

Neither indeed can be.

Uh oh, look up here.

All of us that are born, humans, mankind, natural man, Adamic

nature, were born dead spiritually.

And so we have this natural Adamic brain, this carnal mind.

The Bible says the.

The carnal mind is not subject to the law of God.

The carnal mind does not want to do what God wants it to do.

And then the Bible says this word, neither indeed can be.

It can't even do that if it wants to do it.

That's what the Bible says.

All right, we're coming right back to Romans, but go to 1 Corinthians.

It's a book right after Romans.

Look at 1 Corinthians, chapter two.

It's a blessing to hear pages of The Bible turned.

Preachers that preach the Bible love to hear that sound.

Preachers that don't preach the Bible, they don't care.

But us that preach the Bible, we love to hear it.

Now, I know, I know some of you use your phone, whatever.

Why don't you invent an app that goes verse 14, 2, 14 of 1 Corinthians.

The natural man.

Whoo.

There he is again.

The natural man receiveth not the things of the spirit of God,

for they are foolishness unto him.

Neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Wow.

Since we're still in Corinthians, let's do this.

Let's go to chapter 15.

Chapter 15, 1 Corinthians 15.

If you and I will be willing to acknowledge and accept what the

Bible says, that all mankind is born dead in sin.

We're born dead spiritually.

We're born with the Adamic nature.

We're all born sinners.

If we will accept that and acknowledge that what it says, that's

why Jesus said, you must be born again.

It will help unfold this idea of the spirit filled life.

Look at chapter 15 of Corinthians, verse 44.

Just going to jump in here.

It's all good.

The whole chapter is awesome.

But I want to jump into verse 44.

Here we go.

It is sown a natural body.

It is raised a spiritual body.

Oh, there is a natural body and there is a spiritual body.

Look up here, let me.

I love it.

I love it.

When the Bible is easy and real simple.

Here we go.

There is a natural body.

Say amen.

And there is a spiritual body.

Pretty easy.

Verse 45.

And so it is written.

The first man Adam was made a living soul.

The last Adam was made a quickening spirit.

All right, let's talk about that a second.

The first Adam.

We know that from Genesis that God came down to the earth and God

took dirt and he formed man out of the dust of the ground.

And man stood there like a wax figure until God breathed his own

breath into Adam and he was made living soul.

Amen.

Mercy.

And it says the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.

Well, who is the last Adam?

Because we got a bunch of theologians in here already know

you know, but let's pretend like we don't know.

The last Adam was made a spirit, quickening spirit.

Okay, I believe you.

I don't know who he is, but I believe you.

Okay, next verse 46.

Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which

is natural.

And afterward, that which is spiritual.

So here we go again.

It's real easy.

The spiritual was not first.

The natural was first.

And afterward was the spiritual.

Verse 47.

Here we go.

The first man is of the earth.

Earthly.

You got it?

Are any of you listening?

The first man is of the earth.

He's earthy.

Why would the Bible say that he's earthy?

Look, look.

Our flesh, our body, was made out of dirt.

Do you know that?

It's absolutely true that if you take a deceased body that's been

out there a while, you take its remains and take it to the scientists

and then go get a shovel of dirt, take it to the scientists and

say, tell me what the particles are, the parts from the

element chart, tell me what's in these and you'll have the exact

same elements from dirt as you do from a human.

Do you know why we were made out of dirt?

So it's absolutely true, whether you want to accept it or

not.

Too bad for you.

It's absolutely true.

The person sitting next to you, behind you, they are a dirtbag.

It's in the Holy Bible.

Look at them in the eyeball.

Dirtbag.

Yeah.

This unique natural self, the Adamic nature, is not in the hand

of God.

It's controlled by.

It's in the hand of what some people have titled the unholy trinity.

The world, the flesh and the devil.

So the activity of the natural Adamic nature is going to come from

the world.

The flesh, the devil.

Hmm.

Why did this baby come?

What was the purpose of mankind being here?

It was supposed to bring glory to God, but because of sin, it's

all been distorted.

And now what was supposed to bring glory to God and even fellowship

with God, now it's all messed up.

And it wants to bring glory to itself.

It wants what it wants.

It has its own desires.

It has no desire.

In fact, it cannot please God.

I didn't write it.

I'm just telling you what the Bible says.

Wow.

So what can we do with that natural man thing?

What can we do with it?

Well, it's in Romans 6 in front of 1 Corinthians.

Just a few pages.

Romans 6.

All right.

Now, here's what I know.

Too bad for you I shouldn't tell you, but I'm telling you anyway.

The clock back there says 12 o'.

Well, I had some advertisements I had to do before

I started preaching.

So I've been preaching about 20 minutes or 22 minutes.

I'm not done.

Hang in there.

I promise we do not have an hour left.

I Promise.

It'll just seem like it.

Okay, here we go.

Try to hustle through this.

Romans, chapter 6.

Romans 6 · chapter mention

Paul says in verse 1, what shall we say then?

Shall we continue in sin?

That grace may abound.

God forbid.

How shall we that are dead to sin, living longer therein.

Now time out.

Look up here.

This is fascinating to me.

Somebody in the church of Rome says, hey, do you want grace?

Do you love God's grace?

Do you love grace?

And go, yes, I love God's grace.

Do you want more grace?

Yes.

Yes.

How can we get more grace Here?

Here's what we do.

We'll go out and sin.

Let's do some big ones, and then God will give us more grapes.

And Paul says, idiots.

No, he says it like this.

God forbid.

Is everybody with me?

That's what he's telling them.

Verse 3.

Know you not that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ

were baptized into his death.

Let's stop right there and talk about that.

Baptized.

I'm a Baptist.

Every time I hear the word baptized, I can't help it.

It's in my blood.

It's in my DNA.

When you hear the word baptized.

When you hear the word baptized, you think of wah, wah.

You got to get baptized.

Wa Wa.

Excuse me.

Since you brought it up, that's not baptism.

Not baptism.

Baptism.

To dip, to plunge, to emerge.

That's the Bible.

That's the definition.

Stop being a crybaby.

Just believe what it says.

But we think of baptism.

Those knowing, not that.

Those who are baptized into Jesus Christ.

Do you know what the word baptizing means?

To dip, to plunge, to immerse into.

I got baptized in Wawa in Drake's Creek in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Well, I got placed into the Wawa.

Do you know you can get baptized into something besides Wawa?

I would love.

It'd be okay with me to get baptized in banana pudding.

I think it'd be awesome.

Come up with some vanilla wafers on my head.

Awesome.

Baptism means placed into.

My dad used to say, I think they were baptized in vinegar.

Placed into.

So when the Bible says, know you not that so many of us as we're

placed into, Baptized into Jesus Christ.

Do you see that?

Well, when does a person get placed into Jesus?

Look up here.

I'll show you.

When a person realizes they're a sinner and they have no access

to God.

But God made a plan.

God made a way that his son Jesus Christ would be the Savior.

And he died on the cross, shed his blood for our sins.

The Bible says he Was buried and rose again the third day.

According to the Scriptures, when a person accepts and acknowledges

believes that Jesus is God's Son and He died for their sin, if

they ask him to save him.

Whosoever believeth in him shall not perish when they ask him

to save and believe in him.

The Bible says that that's when they're born again.

Their dead Spirit is made alive.

Not only at the same time were they born again.

The Holy Spirit came and took up residence lives in them.

At the same moment, we were placed into Jesus Christ.

Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he's a new creature with

me.

We are in Christ.

When did I get in Christ?

I got in Christ when I asked him to forgive my sin and save me.

I am now baptized.

I'm in Christ.

Here's what it says.

We're baptized into his death.

Oh, what does that mean?

Look at verse six.

Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body

of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve

sin.

All right, let's talk about that.

When I got placed into Jesus, I was crucified with him.

Then he says in verse six, knowing this, that our old man.

Our old man's not talking about our dad or your husband.

It's talking about our Adamic nature.

Our old natural, unique self was crucified with him.

What does that mean?

That means when I got put into Jesus, I get the benefit of his crucifixion.

Well, he died for my sins.

I'm in Him.

My sins are paid for.

He was buried.

Buried down there.

What does that mean?

My sins were buried with him.

They're gone.

You can't find them.

He was raised the third day.

I am raised with Him.

I wish we believed it.

When you are placed into Christ, you get the benefit of everything

he is and what he did.

What did him did.

Him did die for our sins.

My sins are paid for.

Him did get buried.

My sins are gone.

Him did raise.

I'm raised with him to walk in newness of life.

There's no way you can walk in newness of life except in Him.

Why does he keep saying indeed?

Unto sin.

Dead to sin.

That henceforth we should not serve sin.

The body of sin is destroyed.

If you'll get this in time in your brain, this will help you a

great deal.

When you got put in Christ, you're crucified with him.

The body of sin, the adamic nature is dead.

That henceforth you're dead to sin.

Once a person gets saved, they're in Christ, their adamic nature,

the natural man.

The body is destroyed.

That henceforth it should not serve sin.

It means we acknowledge it.

We know it.

But the word reckon is not just knowing.

There's a term here, reckon.

It's also a mathematical term.

You use it in bookkeeping or accounting.

Some of you are old enough to know what checks are.

You use it if you have a checkbook.

You reconcile and make sure the bank and you agree.

I went for three months and me and the bank didn't agree.

They just wouldn't listen to me.

Anyway, we finally got it figured out and I agree with them.

I just did my bank statement Saturday, Friday afternoon.

And we agree.

That's awesome.

When we agree, here's what the word reckon means.

It means to agree.

Paul the Apostle, writing to the church at Corinth.

And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual,

but as unto carnal, even as babes in Christ.

I fed you with milk, not with meat, for hitherto you were not able

to bear it.

Neither yet now are you able, for you are yet carnal.

Whereas there's among you, here's what.

If you're carnal, here's what happens.

Envying and strife and divisions.

And he goes, are you not carnal and walk as men?

Ladies and gentlemen, when these three ingredients show up,

these three identities, these are not the only ones, but these

are the ones mentioned here.

Envy, strife and divisions.

He says, when that happens, you are carnal and you walk as men.

Why would he say walk as men?

He's saying you're walking as if you're not even saved.

You're walking as if the spirit of God is not even part of

your life.

You walk as men.

You're carnal.

What is carnal?

Well, I don't.

People think I'm bragging and stuff.

I'm not bragging.

I do know a little espanol.

The word carnal in Espanol.

The word carnal is the word flesh.

My favorite flesh is cow flesh.

When he says you are carnal, he's saying you're fleshly.

We're not going to turn there.

The moment.

The moment you get saved, listen what happens.

The flesh, Mr. Con Carney, lusteth against the spirit and the

spirit against Mr. Gongarney.

And these are contrary to the others.

So you cannot do the things you would.

The moment we get saved, the flesh and the spirit are at war with

each other.

Brother Dave, I thought that the natural man, he done did.

That's the Adamic nature.

But after we get saved, we still have the carnal nature that's

been infected and affected by Adamic nature.

And according to the Holy Bible, Mr. Kankarney does not want

to surrender to God and even can't do it if he wanted to.

So here's the problem.

The spiritual man and Mr. Kankarni are at war with each other.

As long as we're saved, as long as we're breathing air, how

long does it last until you're dead?

Until you go to heaven?

Until Jesus comes back.

Well, can we win the battle?

So here's how I'm gonna conclude.

Mr. Adamic Nature died when I got placed into Christ because I

got all the benefit of Jesus.

Mr. Kankarni, my flesh, Mr. Carnal man, is now with me.

And I have this war going between the spirit and Mr. Kankarni.

From now on, what do we do with Mr. Adamic nature?

Well, he's dead.

He's gone.

He died.

What do we do with Mr. Khan Carney?

How do we handle him?

Well, I'll say it to you like Jesus said it.

Jesus said, if any man come after me, let him deny himself and

take up his cross and follow me.

What do you mean, deny himself?

Deny Mr. Congarney.

Here's a way to say it.

I know some of you are aware of what a Krispy Kreme doughnut is.

That came into my life 20 years ago.

They're only this big.

If the hot sign is on the big donut out there, it's red and it

says hot.

I can let go of the steering wheel of my car and it will turn

in.

It knows you should eat one while they're hot.

My family says, dad, would you go get us some donuts?

I go, yeah, I'll go get them.

And I have to buy a couple dozen.

But I have to buy one extra dozen because I will eat a dozen

on the way home by myself.

I've eaten a dozen Krispy Kreme doughnuts at one Sitting well

over a dozen times.

Why?

They were in front of me and they were hot.

I don't know if you've ever had them.

They're only this big.

You pinch them in the middle, they turn into an eight.

You push them in, they disappear.

Then you eat another one.

Then you eat another one.

The most I've eaten at one setting is 16.

Done that twice.

Why?

They're in front of me.

They're hot.

If they weren't hot, I might not eat that many.

Did you get sick?

No, I didn't get sick.

Did you feel bad?

No, I didn't feel bad.

Was it wicked?

No, it was not wicked.

I ate them.

Well, I thought you're not supposed to be a glutton.

I didn't throw up.

I didn't feel like throwing up.

I wasn't sick.

I did my job.

I ate them all.

Now, wait a minute.

Is it possible eating a dozen every day might be wrong?

Well, I will tell you this.

If I ate a dozen Krispy Kreme doughnuts every morning, Mr. Konkarni

wouldn't be able to wear these britches.

And I don't know what my heart would be.

Now, timeout.

Since I brought it up, don't bring me any Krispy Kremes.

I'm trying not to eat sugar at this time in my life for a day or

two.

So don't bring me any Krispy Kremes.

I don't need any.

I'm trying to behave.

But regardless, there's anything can be sinful.

Many things are not wicked and not simple.

There's the simple things.

We automatically know what they are.

Usually a lot of stuff's not wicked, but it could be.

It's the wrong time.

You got other things to do.

Rather than go camping, you got other things to do.

But rather than go fishing, your children might need your attention.

There's all kinds of things.

Watch, don't tell.

Don't let Mr. Concarna have his way.

Learn to tell him no.

Deny himself.

Take up your cross.

Cross includes discomfort.

You might want to go fishing really bad.

You planned it for months, but now you can't go.

Because there is a need in your wife's life.

And follow what Jesus wants you to do.
