  1. I I don't know if you would call the

  2. message this morning a Mother's Day

  3. message. We're going to make some

  4. application

  5. certainly to moms and ladies, but really

  6. to all of us. This morning's message

  7. will come from our theme series, which

  8. is well done. We've been looking at this

  9. year at how we can live today with well

  10. done in mind and manage the goods that

  11. God puts in our hands to magnify the

  12. glory of his son Jesus.

  13. But today the message is entitled A

  14. Woman Who Heard Well done. And so I

  15. invite you to turn to Mark chapter 14.

    Mark 14 chapter mention

  16. The Gospel of Mark chapter 14. Once you

    Mark 14 chapter mention

  17. found your place, if you'll stand in

  18. honor of the reading of God's word, Mark

    Mark 14 chapter mention

  19. chapter 14. If you don't have a Bible

  20. this morning, there are some at the pew

  21. or the chair in front of you, and you're

  22. welcome to use that today. Mark is the

  23. second gospel of the New Testament.

  24. And we're coming toward the end of

  25. Mark's gospel. In Mark chapter 14, Jesus

    Mark 14 chapter mention

  26. is betrayed by Jesus uh by Judas and

  27. then he has the last supper with his

  28. disciples. He goes to the garden of

  29. Gethsemane where he is betrayed and he

  30. is led to his crucifixion.

  31. Mark 16 is the resurrection of Jesus.

  32. But before

  33. Jesus brings his disciples to the

  34. garden,

  35. there's an account given here of a woman

  36. who gave Jesus all she had.

  37. We're going to see that this morning.

  38. Mark chapter 14, beginning in verse one.

    Mark 14 chapter mention

  39. We'll conclude our reading in verse 11.

  40. I want to set the context here. Our our

  41. primary text will be verses 3-9. But

  42. let's begin reading in verse one.

  43. After two days was the feast of the

  44. Passover and of unleavened bread. And

  45. the chief priests and the scribes sought

  46. how they might take him by craft and put

  47. him to death. But they said, "Not on the

  48. feast day, lest there be an uproar of

  49. the people." And being in Bethany, in

  50. the house of Simon the leper, as he sat

  51. at meat, there came a woman having an

  52. alabaster box of ointment of spikenard,

  53. very precious, and she break the box and

  54. poured it on his head. And there were

  55. some that had indignation within

  56. themselves and said, "Why was this waste

  57. of the ointment made? for it might have

  58. been sold for more than 300 pence and

  59. have been given to the poor. And they

  60. murmured against her. And Jesus said,

  61. "Let her alone. Why trouble ye her? She

  62. hath wrought a good work on me, for ye

  63. have the poor with you always, and

  64. whensoever ye will, ye may do them good,

  65. but me ye have not always.

  66. She hath done what she could. She has

  67. come beforehand to anoint my body to the

  68. burying.

  69. Verily I say unto you, wheresoever this

  70. gospel shall be preached throughout the

  71. whole world, this also that she hath

  72. done shall be spoken of for a memorial

  73. of her. I think that's as close as it

  74. gets to her hearing, "Well done, good

  75. and faithful servant."

  76. A woman who heard, "Well done." Our

  77. father, we ask you

  78. to stir something

  79. within us this morning

  80. that would bring transforming change in

  81. our hearts

  82. about the worthiness of our savior,

  83. Jesus.

  84. But for that to take place, your spirit

  85. must move in us.

  86. He must enlighten us to the truth of

  87. your word.

  88. And so may you please speak clearly

  89. today

  90. that we might be better having heard

  91. from you. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

  92. Thank you for standing. You can be

  93. seated.

  94. During my senior year of high school, my

  95. dad gave me a book written by John Piper

  96. entitled, Don't Waste Your Life. I think

  97. that's a good book to give a teenager

  98. coming out of high school. Don't waste

  99. your life. To be honest with you, I

  100. don't remember much from that book, but

  101. there is one particular part of it

  102. toward the end that I will never forget.

  103. Piper told of two women nearing their

  104. 80s

  105. who lived as missionaries in Cameroon in

  106. Africa

  107. until the day when their brakes gave

  108. way. They drove off a cliff and were

  109. killed instantly.

  110. Piper asked the congregation,

  111. "Was that a tragedy?

  112. Two lives driven by one great vision

  113. spent in unheralded service to the

  114. perishing poor for the glory of Jesus

  115. Christ."

  116. He asks, "Was that a tragedy?"

  117. two decades after almost all their

  118. American counterparts have retired to

  119. throw their lives away on trifles in

  120. Florida.

  121. He says, "No,

  122. that is not a tragedy.

  123. That is a glory."

  124. But here's the part that I'll never

  125. forget.

  126. He said, 'I will tell you what a tragedy

  127. is.

  128. In an article from the February 1998

  129. edition of the Reader Digest, a couple

  130. took early retirement from their jobs in

  131. the Northeast when he was 59 years old

  132. and she was 51.

  133. Now they lived in Puna Gorda, Florida,

  134. where they cruise on their 30foot

  135. trwler, play softball and collect

  136. shells.

  137. Piper says, "At first when I read it, I

  138. thought it might be a joke. A spoof on

  139. the American dream, but it wasn't.

  140. Tragically, this was the dream." He

  141. said, "Come to the end of your life.

  142. your one and only precious God-given

  143. life. And let the last great work of

  144. your life before you give an account to

  145. your creator be this, playing softball

  146. and collecting shells.

  147. He said, "Picture them before Christ at

  148. that great great day of judgment

  149. saying,"Look,

  150. Lord,

  151. see my shells."

  152. He says, "That

  153. is a tragedy."

  154. He says, "People today are spending

  155. billions of dollars to persuade each of

  156. you to embrace that tragic dream." in

  157. his final words of the book where I put

  158. my protest against that. Don't buy it.

  159. Don't waste your life.

  160. This year we've been talking about how

  161. you in that day when you stand before

  162. your creator can hear those words,

  163. well done, good and faithful servant.

  164. how what you did with this one precious

  165. life that God gave to you can bring you

  166. to the place where instead of holding

  167. shells in your hands, you can cast

  168. crowns at his feet.

  169. The answer Christ gave us from Matthew

    Matthew 25:21

  170. 25:21, our theme verse is to manage the

  171. Lord's goods, to magnify the Lord's

  172. glory.

  173. That is how you hear well done.

  174. It is by using the resources that the

  175. Lord puts in your hands today.

  176. Not for selfish gain. Not for luxurious

  177. living or lavish retirement,

  178. but rather to give honor and glory to

  179. the Savior who paid the price for your

  180. sin, who bought your pardon, who bought

  181. that new life for you, who calls you his

  182. friend, who though he completely knows

  183. you, completely loves you. The call to

  184. well done is to lay it all at his feet

  185. for his honor and his glory.

  186. Living today with well done in mind can

  187. keep you from wasting your life.

  188. And yet, in an ironic twist,

  189. what you give

  190. to honor the Lord

  191. will be considered a waste by many

  192. others.

  193. Is that not what we see in this text

  194. this morning?

  195. This woman,

  196. she is sandwiched here between the

  197. religious leaders who sought to kill

  198. Jesus and a false disciple who sought to

  199. betray Jesus.

  200. And she stands out

  201. as a picture

  202. of what every believer should and must

  203. do.

  204. She seeks to honor Jesus Christ.

  205. She broke an expensive jar of a costly

  206. ointment and poured it on the head of

  207. Jesus. Why? In an ancient symbol of

  208. tremendous honor.

  209. She treated him as the honored guest

  210. that no one else did.

  211. She poured out it all for him.

  212. But while she did it to honor Christ,

  213. others around her, even disciples,

  214. called it a waste.

  215. Why was this waste of the ointment made?

  216. And yet we find Jesus calls it what? A

  217. good work.

  218. A good work.

  219. She used a valuable resource that she

  220. held in her hands to magnify Christ's

  221. glory before others. And what was her

  222. experience?

  223. First it was criticism,

  224. but then it was commendation.

  225. Criticism

  226. and commenation.

  227. And what this woman experienced

  228. is what all of you can expect to

  229. experience when you pour it all out in

  230. honor of Jesus Christ. When you give

  231. your life to him, when you give your

  232. goods to him, when you live for him,

  233. when he is number one in your life, you

  234. will face criticism

  235. from others.

  236. Your boss

  237. will scoff at you.

  238. It's what you can expect when you pour

  239. out valuable resources and give all to

  240. Christ. It's what a mom can expect when

  241. she prays for and dedicates her child to

  242. the ministry of the Lord. It's what you

  243. can expect.

  244. It's what a single mom can expect when

  245. she's barely making it by, but chooses

  246. to tithe and give what she can to

  247. missions.

  248. It's what you can expect when you make

  249. the decision to do everything necessary

  250. for your wife to stay home and raise

  251. godly children.

  252. When you live on less and you live with

  253. less than you could if she stayed in the

  254. workforce, yes, you can expect criticism

  255. from others. perhaps even in your family

  256. and among your friends.

  257. But the reality is it's what all of us

  258. can expect when we pour out our lives to

  259. magnify Christ's glory.

  260. We will receive criticism from others.

  261. But I hope to assure you today as well

  262. that you will receive commendation

  263. from Christ.

  264. Our sermon breaks up into those two

  265. themes.

  266. criticism

  267. and commendation.

  268. Let's first consider the criticism

  269. that when you give your all to honor

  270. Christ, you will be criticized by

  271. others.

  272. This woman faced criticism for the gift

  273. she poured out on Jesus.

  274. It tells us in verse three

  275. that he was in Bethany just outside of

  276. Jerusalem and he goes into the home of a

  277. man named Simon the leper but I don't

  278. think he was a leper anymore

  279. because these names given to people in

  280. the gospels reflect who they used to be.

  281. See Mary Magdalene possessed with seven

  282. devils was no longer possessed with

  283. seven devils.

  284. And Mary the harlot was no longer a

  285. harlot. And the blind man was no longer

  286. a blind man. He was just Bararddmus, but

  287. we knew him as a blind man. So this

  288. woman or this man Simon was formerly a

  289. leper, likely healed by Jesus. He hosts

  290. a meal for Jesus. And in the other

  291. gospels, we're told it was for his

  292. disciples.

  293. And so I imagine that they are reclined

  294. around this table on the floor as their

  295. custom was

  296. sharing close intimate fellowship

  297. together,

  298. sharing stories of miracles, stories of

  299. healings, stories of transformation, and

  300. of course hearing from Jesus.

  301. But in the midst of their gathering,

  302. this woman walks in

  303. carrying with her an alabaster, what is

  304. called a box here, likely some type of

  305. bottle with a long slender neck.

  306. And inside of this precious, fragile jar

  307. is an ointment called spikenard.

  308. Spikenard means that it was pure,

  309. undiluted,

  310. perfect.

  311. It would have been imported from North

  312. India because that's the only place

  313. where you could find this particular

  314. tree. And as you can imagine, in that

  315. day, importing something from India to

  316. Israel would cost a lot. Therefore, it

  317. says that it was very precious.

  318. The word costly,

  319. expensive.

  320. This is no knockoff perfume that you get

  321. from Ross or Marshalls.

  322. It was expensive.

  323. In fact, the disciples say it was worth

  324. 300 days of wages.

  325. We're talking about tens of thousands of

  326. dollars contained in this tiny little

  327. jar.

  328. For this woman, this would have been her

  329. inheritance

  330. to be sold to pay for her wedding or

  331. perhaps for her to claim for her future

  332. or to give to her future husband. This

  333. thing was everything to her.

  334. And yet, the way she spends it shows she

  335. had no intention of holding anything

  336. back. for she did not take off a cap and

  337. pour a couple of drops upon his head,

  338. but rather she snapped the neck off of

  339. that base, a point of no return, and she

  340. began to pour it on Jesus' head. And

  341. other gospels tell us that she went to

  342. his feet and she poured it out on his

  343. feet as she wept on his feet and wiped

  344. his feet with her hair.

  345. This is a demonstration of tremendous

  346. love, of unmatched honor for Jesus

  347. Christ.

  348. She poured it all out.

  349. She broke the jar.

  350. And yet, what she gave honorably

  351. to Jesus

  352. was criticized by others as being wasted

  353. on Jesus.

  354. As it says in verse number four, there

  355. were some that had indignation within

  356. themselves. That means that they were

  357. vexed. They were irritated. They were

  358. furious about this. They said, "Why was

  359. this waste of the ointment made for it

  360. might have been sold for more than 300 p

  361. and been given to the poor?" And they

  362. murmured against her. This does not mean

  363. that they just complained at her, but

  364. they scolded her. You can hear it in the

  365. tone of their statement.

  366. They scolded her.

  367. But perhaps the reason

  368. they considered her gift to be wasted on

  369. Jesus

  370. is because they did not value Jesus the

  371. way she valued Jesus.

  372. Because what you value determines how

  373. you spend. Is that not true?

  374. I value sports.

  375. I think I have friends in here, too.

  376. So, you know what that means? It means

  377. that I pay for subscriptions to make

  378. sure I have all the channels to watch

  379. all my sports teams. And they are many.

  380. Not just in state, but out of state.

  381. It means that I'll spend birthday money

  382. on a jersey. It means I might even

  383. splurge a bit to go to a playoff game

  384. because I value it. You know what I

  385. don't value? Cologne.

  386. In fact, in my drawer at home, I have a

  387. bottle of Nautica cologne that my wife

  388. gave to me 15 years ago when we were

  389. dating.

  390. And I believe I have sprayed it twice in

  391. those 15 years.

  392. Therefore, when I find out that one of

  393. my friends has spent $150 on a bottle of

  394. cologne, I say, "What a waste."

  395. And they would say the same thing to me

  396. about sports. Why? We value things

  397. differently.

  398. So too, the people in this room value

  399. things differently.

  400. Caring for the poor is good.

  401. Caring for the poor is valuable.

  402. But even that is not as valuable as

  403. Jesus.

  404. This woman

  405. poured it all out for Jesus

  406. because she was saying he is worthy of

  407. it all.

  408. But they said the poor are more worthy

  409. of it all.

  410. Thus they criticized her

  411. because few people today

  412. truly value Christ for all he is worth.

  413. When you give all to honor him, you will

  414. face criticism in your life.

  415. Your boss may scoff at you when you turn

  416. down the traveling job with a big

  417. promotion and the big pay raise all

  418. because you wouldn't be able to be

  419. faithful to church. It won't make sense

  420. to them.

  421. Your parents may see you struggling to

  422. get by as a single mom or a single dad.

  423. And it makes no sense to them why you

  424. would give to support a couple preaching

  425. the gospel in Mexico when you are barely

  426. making it by. Doesn't make sense.

  427. Your unbelieving spouse may resent the

  428. fact that you give regularly to Christ

  429. out of your retirement

  430. or the fact that you take your time to

  431. go on outreach or why you attend every

  432. service and every event. They just don't

  433. understand why you give so much time to

  434. Jesus and perhaps they even resent you

  435. for it, criticize you for it.

  436. But you know what? Sometimes the

  437. criticism

  438. can even come from within the church as

  439. it did for this woman.

  440. You may be doing everything you can to

  441. live your life for the service of the

  442. Lord. And sometimes even Christians may

  443. call you a radical.

  444. It just goes too far. They may say

  445. you're trying to look good in the

  446. pastor's eyes.

  447. You're trying to get in to get a

  448. position in the church,

  449. but perhaps their radical criticism

  450. stems from the subtle rebuke that your

  451. life is to theirs

  452. because they know they don't value Jesus

  453. the way they should.

  454. Maybe they value their job or their

  455. luxurious lifestyle.

  456. Or perhaps they know deep down in their

  457. souls that the extra that they give to

  458. their retirement hamstrings them from

  459. giving more to Christ today. And thus

  460. the radical service that you have for

  461. Jesus when you break it open and pour it

  462. all out. Even your brothers and your

  463. sisters can look at you and say, "What a

  464. waste.

  465. What a waste."

  466. It serves as a rebuke.

  467. but would to God that all of us were as

  468. willing to pour it all out for Jesus the

  469. way this woman did.

  470. And yet far more Christians

  471. are quicker to value other things more

  472. than we value Christ as his disciples

  473. even did in this moment of weakness.

  474. See, when you pour out your all for

  475. Christ, others will criticize you.

  476. Well, let me encourage you believer. Do

  477. not let their criticism keep you from

  478. pouring it out to Christ. Why? Because

  479. in heaven there awaits a heavenly

  480. commendation that far outweighs earthly

  481. criticism.

  482. For when you pour out all to Christ, you

  483. will be commended by Christ. You will

  484. hear those words, "Well done." Just as

  485. this woman did,

  486. the Savior Jesus now commends her for

  487. bestowing such honor upon him.

  488. It says in verse number six, "And Jesus

  489. said, let her alone. Why trouble ye her?

  490. She hath wrought a good work on me."

  491. What she has given should not be

  492. considered a waste.

  493. It should not be considered wasteful but

  494. rather beautiful is what the word good

  495. means. A fine work,

  496. a beautiful work.

  497. But why

  498. why is this such a good work? First of

  499. all, Christ says, "I am leaving soon."

  500. It says there in verse 7, for ye have

  501. the poor with you always, and whensoever

  502. ye will, ye may do good them good, but

  503. me ye have not always.

  504. Where is Jesus going?

  505. He has already told him that he is going

  506. to depart,

  507. but for what reason?

  508. For what cause?

  509. It is nothing less than to be beaten and

  510. tortured and deathly wounded on a cross

  511. for the sins of all mankind.

  512. To pay redemption's price once and for

  513. all by suffering the cruel death of the

  514. cross for you and for me.

  515. That is where he is going.

  516. The eternal son of God will soon be laid

  517. in a cold, dark tomb, having paid in

  518. full redemption's price for our sins.

  519. Thus, Jesus goes on to say in verse

  520. eight, "She hath done what she could.

  521. She has come beforehand to anoint my

  522. body to the burying."

  523. While the disciples remained blinded to

  524. all that Christ must suffer,

  525. Jesus says she knew.

  526. She understood

  527. he's leaving soon.

  528. He will be dead and buried. And thus,

  529. she did what she could.

  530. I am concerned

  531. that we sometimes begrudgingly do what

  532. we must,

  533. but how often do we gladly do what we

  534. can?

  535. How often do we eagerly offer our

  536. offerings in worship to the one who

  537. offered us all for us?

  538. How often do we make our way to church

  539. not begrudging how many chairs must be

  540. set up or how many cords must be run but

  541. rather joyfully to serve our Savior who

  542. gave his all for us.

  543. How often do we go beyond what we must

  544. to do what we can

  545. with what we have in this one life we've

  546. been given.

  547. She did what she could before it was too

  548. late. And notice the lasting commenation

  549. she receives from Christ in verse 9.

  550. Verily I say unto you, wheresoever

  551. this gospel shall be preached throughout

  552. the whole world, this also that she hath

  553. done shall be spoken of for a memorial

  554. of her.

  555. You know what Jesus is saying there? May

  556. her story be told as often and as far

  557. and as wide as my story is

  558. for a memorial of her. And what do you

  559. know? Her story is preserved for us in

  560. all four gospels of the New Testament.

  561. Countless millions

  562. have heard of what she did just as we've

  563. heard of what Christ did. That is what I

  564. call a lasting commendation.

  565. Her memory is to be etched in stone in

  566. the mind of every person who heard the

  567. gospel. Why? For the value she had for

  568. Christ.

  569. The gift that she poured out on Christ

  570. is an example of how every believer who

  571. desires to hear well done must live.

  572. Doing what you can with what you have in

  573. honor of Christ.

  574. In this moment,

  575. she showed everyone in that room

  576. Christ is worthy.

  577. is worthy.

  578. I submit this to you.

  579. God prepared

  580. that very tree in North India

  581. to extract that very ointment

  582. to be placed into that very jar

  583. and held in these very hands

  584. to be broken and poured out on the head

  585. of his son.

  586. the sovereignty of God over all

  587. creation.

  588. He knew when that leaf first sprouted

  589. up,

  590. oil will be poured on my son because he

  591. is worthy.

  592. And now

  593. it has been told to countless millions

  594. that Christ is worthy.

  595. And now this woman's name is etched in

  596. heaven and her story is inscribed in

  597. scripture to remind all of us that

  598. Christ is worthy.

  599. He's worthy of your trust, friend.

  600. He's worthy of all of your faith for

  601. eternal salvation. He is worthy that we

  602. who have been redeemed by his precious

  603. blood should give all that we have in

  604. our hands to honor his name. He is

  605. worthy.

  606. I guarantee you when this woman entered

  607. heaven's gates to the joy of a crucified

  608. and now risen Lord, she heard those

  609. words.

  610. Well done, good servant.

  611. Welcome home.

  612. great awakening preacher George

  613. Whitfield

  614. in the early 1700s

  615. was kicked out of countless churches in

  616. England, particularly for his style of

  617. preaching

  618. because he did not sit there in front of

  619. a pulpit

  620. and read regular religious readings off

  621. of a page,

  622. but he removed his wig

  623. and he began to declare the gospel of

  624. Jesus. Jesus Christ,

  625. calling people to turn from dead

  626. religion

  627. to a real relationship with God through

  628. his son.

  629. He faced constant criticism

  630. for preaching in fields and in coal

  631. mines rather than before clergy in

  632. churches.

  633. Because he became emotional in

  634. preaching, he was criticized as

  635. manipulative.

  636. Because he was passionate and dynamic,

  637. he was called more of an actor than a

  638. preacher.

  639. He sailed to America

  640. to call the colonies with the voice of

  641. Isaiah awake out of sleep to

  642. righteousness.

  643. Turn from dead religion to true faith in

  644. Christ.

  645. He lived his life, as many have said,

  646. with more time spent on a horse than he

  647. spent in a home, traveling from town to

  648. town preaching the gospel.

  649. multiple times in one day before crowds

  650. of thousands with his booming voice.

  651. In spite of all the criticism he

  652. continued to receive from fellow clergy

  653. in the colonies, he said this, "I am

  654. content to wait till the judgment day

  655. for the clearing up of my reputation."

  656. Whitfield preached to thousands for an

  657. audience of one.

  658. The only commenation that mattered to

  659. him came not from the pews or the seats,

  660. but from the throne in heaven where he

  661. would hear, "Well done, good and

  662. faithful servant."

  663. Can I tell you today that the only

  664. commenation that matters is the one you

  665. receive from Christ. People

  666. may slander you. They may criticize you.

  667. They may brand you a radical. But when

  668. you, like this woman, give all to your

  669. savior and you raise your kids for

  670. Christ, when you use your resources to

  671. magnify his glory, when you give up the

  672. lavish retirement for the simple one so

  673. that you may give more to Christ today,

  674. you will hear, "Well done."

  675. Others may call it a waste, but Jesus

  676. calls it good,

  677. >> fine,

  678. beautiful.

  679. Others

  680. who don't understand your love will mock

  681. you, but Jesus who knows your love will

  682. commend you. Others may question your

  683. motives.

  684. They may call you hateful,

  685. bigoted.

  686. They may call you fake.

  687. But because Jesus knows your motives,

  688. he commends them.

  689. Because you have trusted in him, listen

  690. believers, because you have trusted in

  691. him, your name is memorialized in

  692. heaven, sealed forever in the Lamb's

  693. book of life.

  694. And as the word of God says, he is not

  695. unjust to forget your labor of love. He

  696. remembers every criticism you faced. But

  697. he remembers every gift you've given. He

  698. remembers it all.

  699. So regardless of the criticism, I exhort

  700. you today. Live your life. Give your

  701. goods. Serve your Lord. Not for the

  702. commendations of men, but for the

  703. commenation of Christ. Live for him.

  704. Honor him.

  705. One might ask this morning.

  706. What makes Jesus

  707. worthy of this honor?

  708. If Islam calls him a prophet,

  709. if other religions add him as any other

  710. god,

  711. what makes him worthy?

  712. That you would pour out all to him.

  713. That you would break the jar open.

  714. That you would believe in him over

  715. everything else that's out there. What

  716. makes him worthy? Because unlike any

  717. other God professed to be out there,

  718. this God gave his all for you.

  719. Jesus is one with God in heaven.

  720. Eternal from the beginning, present at

  721. creation, worshiped by angels.

  722. He made everything,

  723. possesses everything, and owns

  724. everything.

  725. Yet,

  726. he left the glory behind

  727. and the worship of angels

  728. to take on human flesh. To be born

  729. through a woman, to grow like us, to be

  730. hurt like us,

  731. to die

  732. like us.

  733. But he did not die for his own sins, for

  734. he had none. Because he was God and he

  735. was perfect.

  736. Jesus suffered and died on a cross for

  737. our sin.

  738. And he was burying in a tomb. And he

  739. gave up everything to supply us with the

  740. forgiveness that we need, with the

  741. righteousness that we could never

  742. attain.

  743. to give us the life we could never get

  744. on our own.

  745. He gave up all to give us all.

  746. But the Bible says that he rose again

  747. from the dead with this promise in hand

  748. to give eternal life to all who will

  749. believe on him.

  750. This makes Jesus abundantly worthy of

  751. our all.

  752. The gospel's cry to you today

  753. is repent for the kingdom of heaven is

  754. at hand.

  755. Turn from the sin that binds you.

  756. Turn from the dead religion that can

  757. never justify you. Turn from this world

  758. that can never satisfy you. Turn from

  759. the skepticism that binds you and turn

  760. in faith to Christ as your only hope of

  761. eternal salvation and the forgiveness of

  762. sins.

  763. Be converted wholly and completely by

  764. faith in this savior who gave all for

  765. you.

  766. And today your sins will be forgiven.

  767. And for eternity you can live in heaven

  768. with God.

  769. And as you live for him, giving all

  770. honor to him here, well done.

  771. Nail scarred hands,

  772. reach down into the drowning ocean of

  773. sin

  774. to pull out your drowning soul.

  775. Will you take hold of his hand today?

  776. Will you trust in him alone and he will

  777. save you?

  778. Believers,

  779. the truth we gather from this text is

  780. simply this.

  781. Christ commends all

  782. who give what they have to do what they

  783. can

  784. to honor his name.

  785. I ask every believer today, what do you

  786. have in your hands?

  787. What is in your grasp in this life

  788. right now in this moment? Many of you

  789. hold a Bible in your hands.

  790. Use your Bible to share the gospel and

  791. magnify his glory before others.

  792. Use your money to further gospel

  793. ministry at home and abroad around the

  794. world.

  795. Use your time to honor him in worship at

  796. church, in personal devotion at home,

  797. and in gospel declaration wherever you

  798. go.

  799. Use your retirement years to serve him.

  800. Use your strength, your mind, your

  801. skills, your degree, your youth to honor

  802. him, to serve him.

  803. And so I say to moms and to dads and to

  804. children and teenagers and men and women

  805. of all ages, break the jar.

  806. Break the jar.

  807. Pour it all out to the one who is

  808. worthy.

  809. The one who is worthy.

  810. Don't

  811. waste your life,

  812. but use what you have to do what you can

  813. to honor him.

  814. And in spite of all criticism,

  815. you will be commended.

  816. Well done.

  817. Our father,

  818. we come humbly before you.

  819. the one who is worthy

  820. to receive all honor and glory and

  821. blessing.

  822. For you have created all things and for

  823. your pleasure they are and were created.

  824. We cry out today, worthy is the lamb who

  825. is slain

  826. to receive all honor and glory and

  827. riches and power. for he's redeemed us

  828. out of every kindred, tongue, tribe, and

  829. nation that's bought us with his blood

  830. to bring us back to you, oh God.

  831. May we pour out our lives and our souls

  832. for the honor of our savior.

  833. in whose name I pray.
