>> I'm so thankful for the faithfulness,

the mercy of our Lord and Savior Jesus

Christ. Amen. Matthew's Gospel, if you

have a Bible, Matthew's Gospel, chapter

number one. When you find your place, if

you would stand on and reference to the

reading of God's word. Matthew's Gospel

chapter number one

chapter number one of Matthew's gospel

and verse number one

the Bible says this the book of the

generation of Jesus Christ the son of

David the son of Abraham him. Look with

me if you would please down in verse

number 18.

Chapter 1 verse number 18. Now the birth

of Jesus Christ was on this wise. When

as his mother Mary was a spouse to

Joseph before they came together, she

was found with child of the Holy Ghost.

Then Joseph her husband being a just man

and not willing to make her a public

example was minded to put her away

privately. But while he thought on these

things, behold, the angel of the Lord

appeared unto him in a dream, saying

Joseph, thou son of David. Fear not to

take unto thee, Mary, thy wife, for that

which is conceived in her is of the Holy

Ghost. She shall bring forth a son, and

thou shalt call his name Jesus, or he

shall save his people from their sins.

Now, Father, I come before you this

morning. Thank you for the privilege to

read your word today, God, for the

opportunity that we have this blessed

Bible in our hands. Lord, I hope that we

do not take that for granted, Lord. I

thank you for this good country where

the freedoms that we have to gather and

to worship your name. And Lord, I pray,

Father, today that we would fall uh Lord

would not fall short, God, of worshiping

you. I pray that you would be exalted

and glorified in this service. I pray

that you would remove the flesh far from

us. And Lord, I pray we leave this place

seeing you high and lifted up. And God,

I pray, Father, that you'd move in our

midst. Clothe me in my calling. I pray

fill me with the Holy Ghost. Give me

liberty and vocabulary to preach this

morning. And God, I pray, Father, you'll

make us thankful, Lord, from this

sermon, God, for the birth of our Lord

and Savior Jesus Christ. And Lord, it's

in his name we make our prayer this

morning. Amen. You can be seated. Thank

you for standing this morning.

Matthew's Gospel chapter number one is a

beginning of beginnings. When you

consider this chapter, it marks the

beginning of the New Testament, but also

marks the beginning of the ministry of

our Lord Jesus Christ. It really marks

the beginning of his existence on this

earth. Of course, we know that he has

always existed in eternity past, but his

presence on this earth is introduced to

us literally in chapter number one and

verse number one by this phrase, the

book of the generation of Jesus Christ.

When you consider that phrase this

morning, it's the topic that I'll be

preaching on, the generation of Jesus

Christ, that literally means that word

generation means nativity or the origin

of. And so you notice here in chapter

number one verses one down through verse

number 17. You consider this man's

family in chapter number one and verses

one down through 17 as Jesus Christ

would be incarnate God. But he also

would be inspired man filled with the

Holy Ghost from the time of his birth

until the time of his death led into

heaven after his resurrection. And this

man here in our text is the man Christ

Jesus. And this book, the book of

Matthew, is the book of his origin, of

his nativity. And I consider this not

only the man's family, but I also

consider the Messiah's father in verse

number one, when the Bible says the book

of the generation of Jesus Christ, the

son of David. And we know the promised

seed would be the seed that would come

out of the loins of David, his father.

And we know that God promised David in

the book of 2 Samuel 7:es 12, 13 and 16.

He promised that his seed would be given

a throne and his throne would be from

everlasting unto everlasting. He would

never take away his dominion. He would

never take away his rule and his reign.

But his reign would be an eternal

everlasting reign. And of course, we

know that was not Solomon, though he

reigned, but for just a while, we know

that this man Jesus is the Messiah.

Amen. And so his father David presents

him as the Messiah. And I consider not

only his family and his father, but I

also consider the faith that's

represented here in chapter 1 when the

Bible says the book of the generation of

Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son

of Abraham. And we know that before

David was, there was Abraham. And he was

the one that God called out of the

Caldes and said, "Get thee out of thy

father's house, and out of thy father's

kindred, and go unto a land that I will

show thee, and there will I make of thee

a great nation." Amen. And in Genesis

chapter number 22 and verse number 18,

God told Abraham that of thy seed all

nations of the world would be blessed.

And because Abraham was the father of

the faith, the faith of Jesus Christ is

now presented us in Matthew's Gospel

chapter 1 and verse number one, the book

of the generation of Jesus Christ. Amen.

And I don't know about you, but I'm

still thankful, hallelujah, in 2025 that

this gospel is not dead. It's not died

out or DRIED UP. THANK GOD. But it's

still real and fresh as it's ever been.

And the FAITH IS STILL REAL. AND OUR

FATHER'S STILL REAL. AMEN. AND JESUS

WILL STILL SAVE. AMEN.

>> And when I consider this chapter, I have

to consider the fact that it presents to

us the origin of Christ in the flesh on

this earth. And when I look at this

chapter, I want to consider a few things

here in our text this morning. And I

notice in this text, I love the order of

the scripture. And I'll tell you this,

the more you study this Bible, the more

you just have to believe that it's

inspired and written by God's literal

hand through the men, the hand of men

through the years that were faithful to

be led by the Holy Ghost of God to pin

it. And and he says, Matthew records

here in verse number 18, after the

genealogy is given, he gives us now the

grace of his birth. In verse number 18,

now the birth of Jesus Christ was on

this wise or in this manner. And Matthew

records his birth, records the history

of it, records the holiness of it,

records the heart of it that it is about

this man Jesus Christ. And notice in

this text four things by way of

introduction. And I'll give you the

sermon this morning. I consider first of

all in verse number 18 that there has

been a promise made. In verse number 18,

the Bible says when as his mother Mary

was a spouse to Joseph. And so in this

day and time, the espousal would be agre

an agreement between two families

because marriage was not not to be

entered into lightly. Amen. And so the

fathers of these families of this

daughter and of this son would decide

that they would not know for themselves

who the spouse that they would need

should be. And so there was an agreement

made between these two families. And

this promise is given that this woman

would be given to this man. And in this

period of espousal this year and

waiting, they are pretty much married

already being together. But they have

not consummated the marriage. You see

that nextly, not only the promise that's

been made, but note the purity that's

mentioned in verse number 18. When as

his mother Mary was a spouse to Joseph,

notice those four words, before they

came together. Now I want to submit to

you this morning those little four four

little words might seem insignificant

but you realize those four little words

is what our salvation hangs upon. And

you say preacher how is that? Well if

Jesus was not virgin born he did not

vicariously die for you and I but he

died as a man in his own sin because of

his own chain. You say preacher what are

you saying? I'm saying Jesus did not

have an earthly father, but God

overshadowed the womb of Mary. And

before they came together, there's a

promise that's been made. Oh, but this

marriage was pure. God had blessed them.

And they were waiting for marriage until

they would consummate that thing. And

God had a plan for this home. Amen. God

was going to bless them. Let me say this

just on the precipice this morning. This

is not just a time picture. Amen. But

this is truth. Amen. That's a given to

you and I this morning. This is the way

it ought to be. Somebody say amen this

morning. Hey, you ought to wait till you

get married. You moms and daddies say

amen this morning. Amen. What I'm saying

is God bless this home because they were

faithful to follow the commands of God

Almighty. Amen. And so I consider not

only the promise made and the purity

that's mentioned, but note the pregnancy

that's manifested in verse number 18.

When as his mother Mary was a spouse to

Joseph, before they came together,

notice this, she was found with child.

She was found with child. And you say,

"Preacher, how significant is that?"

Well, you understand, and I'm going to

say more about this just a little bit

later, but in this culture and under

Judaism, Mary could have died because of

this.

>> She could have been stoned to death. She

could have been taken without the camp

and stoned to death. But boy, I'm

thankful God had already had a plan long

before anything could ever be said. And

let me say this to you this morning.

God's plans always work out. Amen. Hey,

you can go your own way and do your own

thing for all of your life. But if you

won't do God's will, God will find

somebody else that will. Amen. And step

up and TAKE YOUR PLACE. AMEN. WHAT I'M

SAYING IS God blessed this marriage and

allowed her, this pure, HOLY GIRL, TO

BEAR THE SON OF GOD, the lamb of God

that would take away the sins of the

world because here she was pure with her

husband Joseph. And so I note not only

the pregnancy that's manifested here,

but I note this and I love this. This

order is so beautiful. Look what he says

lastly in verse number 18. She was found

with child what? Of the Holy Ghost.

Let me say this to you this morning.

>> Where there's a promise that's being

made and purity that's being kept. Amen.

When there's pregnancy in that order,

when God sets it all apart, you know

what? The Holy Ghost is in that thing.

>> Amen.

>> You say, "What are you saying? There is

no greater picture of Christ in the

church than of a marriage between a man

and a woman. When both souls have kept

themselves pure until marriage and then

out of that union there comes the birth

of a child. That's right.

>> You know what the Holy Ghost is in that.

>> Amen. Long before there was the church,

there was the family. Long before there

was the institution that we call the

body of Christ, there was the home. In

the beginning, God made man. And what

did he say? It wasn't good that man

should be alone. But you know what he

did? He made a helpmate for him. And

what did they call her? They called her

woman. Amen. and woman came to man to

protect him and to aid him in his

services of this life. You say,

"Preacher, what are you saying about all

this?" I'm saying this home was right.

>> Amen.

>> Let me say this to you this morning. We

ain't homes that are right in this day

and time.

>> Amen. You say, "Preacher, ain't none of

us going to raise Jesus." No, but you're

raising his children.

>> Amen. That's exactly right. This

morning, I want to give you these three

truths this morning concerning this

text. the generation of Jesus Christ.

What's first mentioned here in the text

is the man. You say, "Well, who's the

man?" Notice verse 19. Then Joseph her

husband. Look what your Bible says.

Being a just man and not willing to make

her a public example was minded to put

her away privy. And I love Joseph. I

think this is why I'll be honest with

you. I love Matthew's account of the

birth of Christ. Probably it's probably

my favorite. I love Joseph. preached a

message on it here last year at the

church and I really want to preach it

again this morning. But I know some of

y'all that take notes, y'all say,

"Preacher, he preached that last year."

And so I just going to get me something

different. Amen. But what I noticed in

this text about Joseph and Joseph was a

godly man. Joseph was a man full of

grace and wisdom. And the Bible

literally describes him as a just man.

That description speaks of his holiness.

That Joseph was a righteous man. He was

an upright man. Joseph. If you study

history, you'll find that Joseph was in

the reign of the kings. And you say,

"How is that?" Well, you can look even

in this own chapter and discover in

verse number 16, the Bible says, "And

Jacob beget Joseph, the husband of Mary,

of whom was born Jesus, who is called

Christ." And so, Joseph was the one that

brought that kingly lineage all the way

down into the family. Of course, Mary

was a part of that family as well. But

what I'm saying here this morning is

this right here. Joseph was royal, but

his royalty did not take away from his

righteousness.

>> And when I consider this text, what's

interesting about Joseph? Joseph had

rights to a throne by his family. But

because the persecution, the sin of

generations before him, they are under

Roman rule. We note chapter number one.

The Bible says in verse chapter number

two and verse number one. Now when Jesus

was born in Bethlehem of Judea, notice

this. In the days of Herod the king,

Herod was the one that was overruling

the whole thing. Caesar and all those

men, they were trying to take out Jesus.

Why is that? They had reign over the

Jews. Joseph was an heir in the family

of the Jews. But you know what the truth

is? BECAUSE OF SIN, he was not reigning.

He was not a king. Oh, but he didn't

know that he was going to get to be the

one that got to raise the earthly king.

Amen. The heavenly king of the Jews.

Amen. Joseph didn't worry about his lot.

But you know what he did? HE JUST STAYED

FAITHFUL TO GOD. AND I THINK IT'S

interesting that the first thing said

about him is that he was a just man. He

was holy. But I notice not only his

holiness, but I see his heart. In verse

19,

we get a picture of this man, Joseph,

being a just man. Notice this. not

willing to make her a public example.

You see, Joseph loved Mary. You see that

later on in the text. Joseph was

faithful to Mary all the days of his

life. Loved her and was faithful to her.

But you see in this point in time, at

the beginning here, things looked a

little bit rocky. Things looked like

they just wasn't going to go work out

just exactly like he thought they was.

You see that promise that had been made,

that purity that had been kept, it

seemed at this moment in time that that

purity and that promise had been

overruled. It seemed that maybe she had

stepped outside or maybe someone had

forced her. He didn't know the whole

story, but he knew this. He knew she was

pregnant, but he also knew that he loved

her. And the Bible says that he wasn't

willing to make her a public example. He

was not willing to defame Miss Mary. Why

was that? because he loved her. You know

what the Bible says? For he said that

grace, it'll it'll hide a multitude of

sins. Amen. We know Mary's not guilty in

this text, but Joseph's heart was toward

her. You know what he wasn't going to

do? He wasn't going to go take her out

in the street. Amen. Telling to stone

her. Amen. Cuz he loved her. Notice

this. Not only his holiness in his

heart, but I think this is the greatest

aspect of Joseph I see in this text. I

see his whole. You say, "What do you

mean his whole?" Well, notice what the

text verse 19. The Bible says, "And he

was not willing to make her a public

example, but was minded to put her away,

put her away privately." Notice the

first phrase of verse 20. But while he

thought on these things, while he

thought on these things, you see, Joseph

had a grip on his life. You know, I'm

seeing in this day and time, people that

are so uncontrolled,

they don't have a grip on anything's

going on their life. You say, "What's

the emphasis of this, preacher?" Well,

first of all, I would say this. He had a

grip on truth. He had a hold on truth.

What is that? Well, look at the text.

Verse 19. He was minded to put her away

privately. You know what the law said?

The law said because of this, he had to

put her away because she's impure. You

say, "How is that, preacher?" Well,

notice the book of Deuteronomy,

chapter number 22.

Deuteronomy 22.

These verses teach us

the truth concerning the law of

marriage. Notice Deuteronomy 22

verse number 23. Deuteronomy 22:23.

Deuteronomy 22:23

If a dangel that is a virgin be

betrolled unto an husband and a man find

her in the city and lie with her, then

you shall bring them both out into the

gate of that city. He shall stone them

with stones that they die. The damsel

because she cried not being in the city.

And this man but the man because he hath

humbled his neighbor's wife. So shall

those so thou shalt put away evil from

among you. And you notice this whole

chapter deals with this thought of this

sin of adultery and this sin of

fornication. And Joseph, you know what

his heart was? His heart was toward

Mary. But you know who had his heart

primarily? God did.

Amen. God is the one that had control of

his heart primarily. And so, you know

what? Rather than stoning her because

having her stoned because he loved her,

what does the Bible said? He he was

minded to put her away privately. That

was that means that because of this, she

had breached the covenant, the promise

that had been made. And so, their

spouse, they're not married yet. This

espousal period, all of that was was

normal for them. If there was something

that happened, she was found to be with

child, found unfaithful, she could be

put away. And so his righteousness

overruled

his love for Mary. Let me say this to

you young people. Listen to me this

morning. When it comes to your life, you

only get one chance at this thing.

>> Amen. [snorts] I don't care what the

world tells you. One marriage is between

one man and one woman. Amen. God will

give grace to everybody that's outside

of that. But let me tell you, you only

get one shot to do it the first time.

Amen. And anytime after that, it's sin.

>> Amen.

>> What I'm trying to say to you this

morning is this. Joseph loved God more

than he loved Mary. But you know what?

He didn't only have a good hold on

truth. And this is what I love about

Joseph. He also had a good hold on his

thoughts. Look what the Bible said. He

was minded to put her away privately.

Verse 20. But while he thought on these

things, you see, Joseph knew the truth.

All right? But you know what? Joseph

loved Mary. And so, you know what? He

wasn't hasty. You know what happens? You

know, when young people get in trouble

is when they get hasty.

>> They get in a hurry. Well, I got to have

it now. I want it now. I got to go on

now. This person loves me and I'm going

to follow it now. You know what happens?

That always leads in destruction.

>> But you see, Joseph, he had a good hold

on his thoughts. His thoughts did not

control him. He loved God more than he

loved Mary. But he also knew that he

loved Mary enough that this must be a

weighty decision. And so, you know what

he did? He gave God enough time to get

to him. You know what? I'm afraid a lot

of people in this damn time, they don't

give God enough time to get to him.

>> Amen. You say, "Preacher, well, God can

get to me anytime." You're exactly

right. But you know what? We make

decisions so many time without

consulting him.

>> Amen. We think we know what's best for

us when in reality, we don't know our I

mean, we don't we don't know nothing

about our life. We don't know what we

need. Here's the fact of the matter. We

would choose the will of God if we were

smart enough to know to choose it.

>> Amen. But the truth is in our life, we

so many times refuse the will of God

because we get in a hurry. We get hasty.

We want to do it our way. Let me tell

you, you better get you a hold on truth.

But you also better get you a hold on

your thoughts.

>> Amen. Joseph here in this text, he had a

good hold on his life. And while you see

this man here is thinking on these

things, notice not only the man in our

text, but note the message in verse 20.

But while he thought on these things,

behold, the angel of the Lord appeared

unto him in a dream. St. Joseph, thou

son of David, fear not to take unto thee

Mary thy wife, for that which is

conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.

You see the appearance of this angel,

the angel, I believe it is to be

Gabriel, comes in this text and speaks

here today to Joseph. And notice how he

labels him. He says, "Thou son of

David," he states his rulership, knowing

that he is the one that's heir to the

family. He says, "Joseph, thou son of

David, fear not to take unto thee, marry

thy wife." What was he saying? Well, he

was appearing to him to tell him, "Hey,

you've got an appointment. Hey, that

little woman over THERE THAT'S WITH

CHILD, SHE'S NOT BEEN UNFAITHFUL to you,

but she's been faithful to me. That's

why she's with child." Amen. And so,

hey, Joseph, I'm appointing you to be

her husband and to raise this child.

>> Amen. Look what he says in the text. He

said the the Lord appeared unto him

dreams, saying, Joseph, thou son of

David, fear not to take unto thee Mary

thy wife. Take her unto thee. Look what

he says. For that which is conceived in

her is of the Holy Ghost. And I notice

in that appointing there is the

approval. You see, the conception in her

did not have to do with a relationship

that was outside the will of God, but it

had to do with a supernatural

relationship that she had with the Holy

Ghost of God. YOU SAY, "PREACHER, WHAT

ARE YOU SAYING?" I'm saying the Holy

Ghost overshadowed the womb of that

little virgin girl. History tells us she

was only about 14 OR 15 YEARS OLD and

that little virgin girl bore the son of

God, THE LAMB OF GOD IN her womb. YOU

SAY, "PREACHER, WHAT is that for me

today? What is the application for me?

Will you understand? IF YOU'VE BEEN

SAVED BY THE GRACE OF GOD, JESUS LIVES

ON THE INSIDE of you. AND YOU KNOW WHAT?

THE ONLY WAY THAT HE'LL BE ABLE TO BE

EFFECTIVE IN YOUR LIFE, TO GROW IN YOUR

LIFE, AND TO BE WHO GOD WANTS HIM TO BE

IN YOUR LIFE IS IF YOU ARE PURE AND YOU

ARE PREPARED AND YOU ARE preserved to

receive him.

>> Amen.

>> You see, it's all got to be right in

your life. Amen. You got to have it

right from A to Z. You say, "Preacher, I

don't like that." Well, you just need to

get over it.

>> Amen.

>> Here's the truth about it. If you'll do

right, Amen. you'll be blessed.

>> Amen. I'm not talking about physical

blessings. I'm talking about heavenly

>> spiritual blessings. Amen. Do right. If

the world falls, do right. Amen. If your

parents fall out, if the preacher falls

out, IF THE CHURCH FALLS OUT, HEY, DON'T

YOU QUIT LOVING GOD AND FOLLOWING GOD.

YOU SERVE GOD ALL THE DAYS OF YOUR LIFE

REGARDLESS OF WHAT ANYBODY ELSE DOES

BECAUSE GOD HAS GOT A BLESSING for you

in the place that you are. Amen.

>> Say, preacher, what's the truth out of

this? Well, the message for him was that

he had an appointment.

this little woman

with child of the Holy Ghost. He says,

"Look, you're going to have to take her

to yourself. Look, Joseph, the father

approves." You know, I think there's

nothing greater in this life than

knowing that the father approves

>> in our life. You say, "Joseph loved

Mary." You know why Joseph loved Mary?

Because it was the will of God for him

to love Mary.

>> Amen.

>> It was the will of God for him to love

Mary. And when it seemed like he was

going to have to put her away because of

what seemed like sin, you know what? God

came and spoke to him and said, "Hey,

it's not what it seems, Joseph. That's

your bride, but that baby's mine,

>> and you going to be the one to raise

him." Amen.

>> You say, "Preacher, I'm not getting

nothing out of that." Well, I'm telling

you, it's a helping me. Amen.

>> I don't know about you, but my savior to

know the fact that he was raised in a

humble home.

This boy that was supposed to be a king,

you know what? He wasn't worried about

his kingship. But you know what? But he

did raise the king.

>> That's right.

>> The King of Kings and the Lord of Lords.

>> Amen.

>> A humble home. Didn't have what he

deserved. Probably didn't have all that

they needed. But you know what? God

blessed them.

>> Boy, anybody hear that in the house this

morning? Didn't have what he deserved.

Probably didn't have I know they didn't

have all that THEY NEEDED. BUT GOD

BLESSED their home. Why? BECAUSE THEY

WAS PURE. BECAUSE THEY WAS HOLY. BECAUSE

HE LOVED GOD more than anything else.

>> I consider the man in the message. But I

note this third and I'll be done.

Consider the miracle this morning. The

miracle. The Bible says, "For that which

is conceived in her of the Holy Ghost,

never in history has this been done.

Never was it done before. Never has it

been done again. A virgin has never

conceived a child other than Mary." And

the Bible says in verse 21, the Bible

says, "And she shall bring forth a son,

that shall call his name Jesus, for he

shall save his people from their sin."

There's so many miracles in this text.

There's the miracle of the conception.

The fact that the Holy Ghost would

implant the seed of the father, Jesus

Christ, in the womb of Mary, and that

she would give birth to the son of God

himself, heaven's best child, heaven's

only child, God the father's only son.

He would bring forth a son, and thou

shalt call his name Jesus, for he shall

save his people from their sins. You

understand this morning, church, the

incarnation is the miracle that all of

our beliefs hang upon. If Jesus was not

virgin born, he did not die for our

sins, but he died in his sins. But I'll

tell you this, he was virgin born. And

because he was virgin born, he did die

for our sins. And the Bible tells us in

this text number one in verse 21, this

miracle is that there is a divine birth.

Look what he says. And she shall bring

forth a son.

She shall bring forth a son. You know

what? This been prophesied some 700

years earlier that Jesus would come. A

virgin shall conceive. Isaiah said, "And

she'll bring forth a son. They'll

[clears throat] call his name what?

Emmanuel, which has been interpreted,

God with us." It was prophesied. It was

promised unto the Jews for generations.

It was promised even unto Adam and Eve

in the book of Genesis chapter number

three and verse number 15. God told Eve

in that garden and the serpent when they

were standing there, he told Eve, he

said, "Look, Eve, he said, "Your seed's

going to bruise his head and that and

his seed's going to bruise his heel."

That seed was Jesus. You know what he

did? He he took out the serpent, the

devil on Calvar's cross, and one of

these days, he'll finish him completely.

He was prophesied. He was promised. But

now, he is presented. She shall bring

forth a son. This divine birth.

Galatians 4:4 said when the fullness of

Galatians 4:4

time was come, God sent forth his son,

made of a woman, made under the law to

redeem them that were under the law. I'm

saying Jesus was sent forth to you and I

so that we could be saved. Amen.

>> This divine birth is also giving us a

defined blessing in verse 21. Look what

the Bible says. and she shall bring

forth a son, and thou shalt call his

name Jesus.

You see, in the scriptures, there's at

least four other men named Jesus. But

there's only they were only named after

Jehovah. You see, Jesus means Jehovah is

salvation. That word Joshua, Joshua in

the Old Testament, and Jesus in the New

Testament, there were other men that

were named Jesus, but there were only

one.

They were all named after Jehovah, but

only one was named as and whose name is

Jehovah.

>> You say, "What is that, preacher?" Well,

when she called his name Jesus, when

Joseph called his name Jesus in verse

number 25 of this text, you know what he

was saying? He wasn't just saying that's

that's who he would be like.

He wouldn't be like Jehovah. That's

right.

>> But he is Jehovah.

>> Amen. He didn't name him that just

because he he represented Jehovah.

He named that because

he is.

There's been a lot of people, thousands

upon thousands named Jesus since Jesus

left this earth. But there'll only ever

be one.

>> Amen. Jesus reigns. Jesus rules. Jesus

righteousness is seen. His blessing is

defined to us. Why? It's defined in his

name. Jehovah is salvation. And look

what he says in verse 21. Thou shalt

call his name Jesus for. He's called

Jesus because his primary ministry, his

purpose of this world, the reason THAT

HE CAME WAS TO DIE. AND WHAT DID HE DIE

FOR? HE SHALL SAVE his people from their

sins.

You see, this divine birth brought

divine blessing, but it also brought

deliverance.

deliverance unto bliss. What did he save

them from? Look what he says. He shall

save his people from what? From their

sins.

You say, "Preacher, what's the truth of

all this?" Well, the Bible says Jesus,

that is Jehovah is salvation. He shall

save. There's salvation. That is the

what of Christ. His He is salvation.

There's his people. That's the who. The

what is going to deliver the who. What?

There is the why. Verse number 21, he

shall save his people from their sins.

We must be delivered. We must be

forgiven from our sins. The only way

that we could be saved is if our sin

problem is dealt with in salvation. And

then then in this text, you say,

"Preacher, well, there's the what, the

who, and the why. But how? What? How's

it going to be done? What's the how?"

Jesus is the how.

>> Amen. They shall call his name Jesus,

for he shall save. He is the how. How

would it be done? Jesus would live a

perfect SINLESS LIFE. 33 AND A HALF

years on this earth. Jesus would live

without a sin, WITHOUT A SPOT, WITH NO

SHAME OF THIS WORLD. NOBODY COULD LAY A

MARK ON HIM. NOBODY COULD SAY THAT HE

EVER MISSED THE MARK. But you know what?

HE WENT UP CALVAR'S CROSS, NOT BEARING

HIS OWN SIN, but bearing my sin and your

sin. AND ON CALVAR'S CROSS, HEY, HE

BROUGHT THE HOW TO PASS. JESUS IS THE

means by which you and I are saved.

>> And this book is the generation of Jesus

Christ. I want to ask you this question

this morning. When I consider this text,

the Bible says in verse 21, he said,

"Thou shalt call his name Jesus."

Let me ask you something.

There was the first time that Joseph and

Mary looked at Jesus, and you know what

they did? They called his name for the

first time. They looked at that little

baby boy and and said, "Jesus,

let me ask you something this morning."

Have you ever called on his name?

>> The Bible says this in Romans 10 verse

number 13. For whosoever shall call upon

the what? The name of the Lord shall be

saved.

>> Peter said it like this in the book of

Acts. He said, "For there's none other

name under heaven given among men

whereby we must be saved."

Jesus. Jesus. Precious Jesus. There's

just something about that name.

>> Master, Savior, Redeemer,

Jesus.

Let all heaven and earth proclaim

kings and kingdoms

>> will all pass away. But there's

something

about that name.

>> There's something about that name.

>> Every head bowed and every eye closed

this morning. I want to ask you,

have you ever called his name?

I'll say this to you. If you're here

lost this morning, he's calling your

name.

He knows who you are. He knows where you

are. And he wants to save you [music]

today.

>> [music]

>> There's no more precious truth in this

life than the miracle

of Jesus Christ.

You see, it's the law that condemns you

and I. Shows us that we're sinners. Paul

said, "The law was my school master.

[music]

Brought me to God. Realize that I had a

need." You know what the Bible says? The

law came by Moses. But grace and truth

came by Jesus Christ.

You can be saved this morning. [music]

You say, "Preacher,

I've never called on his name.

Preacher, I need to be saved." Anybody

be honest this morning? Just slip your

hand up. I want to pray for you. [music]

Preacher, I'm not saved.

Never caught on his name.

slip your hand up and hold it where I

can see it.

Let me say this [music] to you, child of

God.

For those of us that's been saved, you

called his name in the past. Let me ask

you, how long's it been since you called

his name?

How long's it been since you talked with

the Lord,

told him your heart's hidden secrets?

How long has it been since you prayed?

Since you stayed, since you stayed till

your heart knew no burden, the

songwriter said, "Let me ask you,

he's waiting. He wants to speak with you

this morning.

>> Father

Lord, I thank you this morning that

when you came, you didn't come in

royalty

because Lord, I don't know. I couldn't

relate to a king.

But Lord, you came

in humility,

lowly to the poorest

of the poor,

[music] in a small place, in a lowly

place, laid in a manger.

[music]

And Lord, I can sure identify with you.

Lord, I'm so thankful, God, that you

came to that lonely place so you might

bring me to the lofty place.

That you became sin for us who knew no

sin, that we might be made the

righteousness of God.

You became a son of man that we the sons

of men might might become the sons of

God. And I exalt you. I praise you for

that. this morning. And I pray this

morning that you would help us, Lord, to

[music] cling to that name.

Hold to it. Trust in it always.

Thank you for this season. We celebrate

your birth. For we love you. We pray

you'd bless the remainder of this day.

We ask it in Jesus name. Amen.
