  8. word from God.

  9. I ain't been very down the road alive

  10. very far, but I can tell you this, what

  11. I have seen, I know I can't make it

  12. without him.

  13. >> Amen. And uh I appreciate them letting

  14. me sing with them tonight. I was

  15. honored, too. I appreciate those ladies.

  16. If you have a Bible, I want you to turn

  17. with me to the Gospel of Luke. Luke's

  18. Gospel, chapter number one.

  19. Luke's Gospel, chapter number one.

  20. I appreciate the young people of our

  21. church and uh they've really stepped up

  22. here the last several months in our

  23. church and I really do. I mean it. I

  24. appreciate them and their faithfulness

  25. and their desire to serve. I tell you

  26. that's not everywhere, church. And uh

  27. you ought to thank God for it. And I'll

  28. tell you this, y'all do more than just

  29. thank God for it. Y'all to support them.

  30. Amen.

  31. >> Amen. Y'all to support them. And uh

  32. a lot of different things that I could

  33. say about that, but I tell you this, the

  34. Lord has blessed our church. Amen.

  35. >> He's been so good to us. And uh good

  36. families, good children.

  37. I bless his name for it. Luke chapter

  38. number one. And I'm going to read just a

  39. few verses here and uh really cover a

  40. lengthy portion of text. Not going to

  41. read all of it, but I want to read just

  42. a few verses here and then we'll give

  43. you the thought tonight. Luke chapter

  44. number one. Uh let's begin reading verse

  45. number 57. Luke chapter 1 verse 57.

    Luke 1:57

  46. Hope that you're familiar with this this

  47. text. And uh be honest with you, I

  48. really have never heard any preaching

  49. out of this chapter uh all that much.

  50. I've heard some preaching on Mary, but

  51. the text I'm going to deal with tonight.

  52. Never heard a whole lot of preaching on

  53. heard my dad preach on it. Um but never

  54. really heard much preaching out of this

  55. text. I pray the Lord will help us

  56. tonight. Let's look chap Luke Luke Luke

  57. in Luke chapter number one verse 57.

  58. And the Bible says, "Now Elizabeth's

  59. full time came that she should be

  60. delivered, and she brought forth a son,

  61. and her neighbors and her cousins heard

  62. how the Lord had showed great mercy upon

  63. her, and they rejoiced with her. And it

  64. came to pass on the eighth day that they

  65. came to circumcise the child. They

  66. called him Zacharias after the name of

  67. his father." And his mother answered and

  68. said, "Not so, but he shall be called

  69. John." And they said unto her, "There is

  70. none of thy kindred that is called by

  71. this name." And they made signs to his

  72. father how he would have him called. And

  73. he asked for a writing table and ropes

  74. saying, "His name is John." And they

  75. marveled all. And notice verse number

  76. 64. This where I want to end up tonight

  77. with the help of the Lord. Look what he

  78. says. And his mouth was open

  79. immediately. And his tongue loosed and

  80. he spake and praised God. And fear came

  81. on all the all that dwelt round about

  82. them. And all these sayings were noised

  83. abroad throughout all the hill country

  84. of Judea. And all they that heard them

  85. laid them up in their hearts, saying,

  86. "What manner of child shall this be, and

  87. the hand of the Lord was with him."

  88. Father, I come before you tonight, and I

  89. want to say thank you for the good

  90. service we've had thus far. And Lord, I

  91. pray, Father, tonight that you would

  92. allow us to worship you tonight. I pray

  93. that you would, Lord, break the

  94. hardness, God, of this flesh.

  95. Lord, the coldness that we get so

  96. complacent sometimes, God, I I thank you

  97. for the spirit, Lord, those songs, those

  98. ladies just sang. God, the fact of the

  99. matter is, Lord, every one of us in this

  100. life's been through a lot of things, but

  101. there's never been a thing we've went

  102. through that you weren't there with us.

  103. And I thank you for that. And Lord, I

  104. pray, God, that you would help us

  105. tonight as we consider this text, Lord,

  106. and give us wisdom, give us discernment,

  107. help us to receive with meekness the

  108. engrafted word. And Lord, may we lift

  109. our eyes under the hills from whence

  110. cometh our help. Lord, I pray you'll

  111. move. Clothe me in my calling. I pray

  112. give us liberty and vocabulary. We'll

  113. give you thanks for what you do because

  114. we ask it in Jesus name. Amen. Luke

  115. chapter number one is the introduction

  116. of a man by the name of John the

  117. Baptist. Now we know John the Baptist,

  118. Isaiah chapter number 40 spoke of this

  119. man that would be the forerunner of our

  120. Lord. He would come to prepare the way

  121. of the Lord. the Bible says, "And make

  122. his path straight." And we are

  123. introduced first not to John, but we're

  124. introduced to his family. And I I find

  125. that interesting in Luke's gospel. Of

  126. course, when you study the personality

  127. of Luke in the scripture, we know that

  128. he was a doctor. Luke was interested uh

  129. in lots of things. He's very detailed in

  130. his writings. And that's why there's a

  131. lot of events that Luke records,

  132. particularly the birth here of John the

  133. Baptist, as well as factors concerning

  134. the birth of Jesus Christ that the other

  135. gospels do not record. And so I find it

  136. interesting here in this text to

  137. highlight some things by way of

  138. introduction tonight in verse number

  139. five of chapter number one. The Bible

  140. says there was in the days of Herod the

  141. king of Judea a certain priest named

  142. Zachcharias of the course of Abaya and

  143. his wife was of the daughters of Aaron

  144. and her name was Elizabeth. And I want

  145. to notice four things about this family.

  146. This husband and wife here in this text.

  147. Of course, this is the mother and father

  148. of John the Baptist. And they are aged

  149. at this point in their life. Both of

  150. them are elderly at this time and they

  151. are past the age of child rearing much

  152. like uh Abraham and Sarah in the book of

  153. Genesis. Of course, we know we're not

  154. given their age in this time, but we do

  155. know that Elizabeth is barren. And and

  156. we notice in this text some things about

  157. them is said of them. I want you to

  158. notice four things said about them in

  159. this text. The first thing that's

  160. mentioned here in verses five and six is

  161. their virtue. And look what the Bible

  162. says there. He is a certain priest. His

  163. wife was of the daughters of Aaron.

  164. Verse six. And they were both righteous

  165. before God, walking in all the

  166. commandments and ordinance commandments

  167. and ordinances of the Lord blameless.

  168. And so they were walking with God. So

  169. much so that nobody could bring an

  170. accusation against their service. They

  171. were faithful in the ordinances. That

  172. had to do with the ceremonial law. Of

  173. course, we know that Moses law had two

  174. parts mainly, the sacrificial and the

  175. ceremonial law. And so, or the

  176. ceremonial law and then the uh the phys

  177. moral law and then the sacrificial law,

  178. those three parts. And so, they were

  179. faithful in all parts, the commandments,

  180. that moral law and the ordinances have

  181. to do with that ceremonial law. And they

  182. were blameless. They were walking. They

  183. were virtuous in their marriage. Both of

  184. them. He was a priest, righteous before

  185. God. and she was a righteous a believing

  186. wife that was married to him according

  187. to the text. And we notice not only

  188. their virtue is highlighted, but we note

  189. their vice is highlighted in verse 7.

  190. The Bible says that they had no child

  191. because that Elizabeth was barren and

  192. they both were now wellstricken in

  193. years. And so all their life this man,

  194. he was coarse raised in the house of

  195. Aaron. that course of Abaya. That's one

  196. of the 24 courses that David installed

  197. in the book of 2 Samuel there to reign

  198. over the house of Aaron to keep order in

  199. the house of God. The priest there, the

  200. course of Abaya and then his wife of the

  201. daughters of Aaron. And so they had

  202. lived their whole life in the ministry

  203. so to speak and they had no children.

  204. And let me say this to you this this

  205. evening. And I I was thinking about it

  206. this afternoon considering this text.

  207. Just because somebody does not have what

  208. we have, does not mean that they have

  209. sinned or some reason has brought their

  210. vice upon them. Not every person that

  211. gets cancer is a sinner. Somebody say,

  212. "Amen." You say, "Preacher, we're all

  213. sinners." You know what I'm saying? Not

  214. every person that gets sick, not every

  215. time a individual gets out of gets out

  216. of shape physically has to do with the

  217. sin that's in their life. Now, we know

  218. many times that's the case. But in this

  219. text, these people were not barren to

  220. any fault of their own. But they were

  221. barren just because God wanted to work a

  222. miracle in their later years. Amen. I'll

  223. tell you what, they got to see that

  224. barrenness bring a blessing in their

  225. life. Amen. And so I note their virtue

  226. and their vice here that's mentioned.

  227. She is barren. But we consider the

  228. biggest part of this chapter deals with

  229. the vision that her husband Zacharias

  230. has. and he is in his office there in

  231. the the temple and he is offering the

  232. incense there in verse number nine verse

  233. number 10 the multitude is praying there

  234. in this time of incense and in verse

  235. number 11 as he is offering this incense

  236. offering there in that holy place the

  237. Bible says that there appeared unto him

  238. an angel of the Lord standing on the

  239. right side of the altar of incense and

  240. so he has a vision here in this text he

  241. sees the angel Gabriel and the Bible

  242. says that out of this vision He is told

  243. that his wife him he and his wife are

  244. going to have a son and his name shall

  245. be called John in verse number 13. And I

  246. think what I find interesting about this

  247. is that there was prayer made. Verse 13,

  248. look what he says. But the angel said

  249. unto him, "Fear not, Zachcharias, for

  250. thy prayer is heard." Amen. I'll say

  251. this. The only prayers God don't hear

  252. the prayers you don't pray. Amen. That's

  253. exactly right. Tonight, if you refuse to

  254. pray, don't expect God to hear it. Amen.

  255. God is listening. His ears are open unto

  256. his children. And his heart is attended

  257. unto the prayers of his people. And God

  258. has heard the prayer of Zacharias and

  259. his wife that they would have a son. No

  260. doubt in my mind probably they have

  261. decided that at this point in their life

  262. that they wouldn't be able to have a son

  263. just simply because their age. But I'm

  264. thankful that where the flesh gives up,

  265. God just gets started. Amen. Hey, when

  266. we get too old, we think we're aged out.

  267. Hey, that just might be the time for God

  268. to use you in the biggest way. Amen.

  269. Hey, if you still GOT BREATH, YOU STILL

  270. got ability to do something for God.

  271. Amen. Hey, don't ever quit on God. Don't

  272. ever give up on him. Amen. Too

  273. prematurely. And so I consider out of

  274. this vision there is victory that is

  275. wrought for them their prayer is

  276. answered. Verse number 24, the Bible

  277. says, "And after those days, his wife

  278. Elizabeth conceived and hid herself five

  279. months, saying, thus hath the Lord dealt

  280. with me in the days wherein he looked on

  281. me to take away my reproach among men."

  282. And so God has blessed their home. And

  283. you say, "Preacher, well, where are you

  284. headed with this?" Well, uh, in this

  285. vision tonight, what you're going to

  286. discover, the angel speaks to this man,

  287. Zachcharias, and there's an event that

  288. takes place in this scripture that I

  289. want to zero in on tonight with the help

  290. of the Lord. Notice this in verse number

  291. 14, 15, and 16. His birth is revealed.

  292. He is going to bring rejoicing. He's

  293. going to have a burden of righteousness.

  294. And he's also going to build the

  295. religious world of Jesus Christ. In all

  296. of these verses, his purpose, his

  297. administration is going to be to prepare

  298. the way of the Lord and make his path

  299. straight. And the beginning of the

  300. church of God begins with this man, John

  301. the Baptist. Amen. The first preacher,

  302. the reason why we're Baptist, is because

  303. everybody else says, "Well, we can trace

  304. it all the way back to Jesus." Well, we

  305. go back before him. Amen. To John the

  306. Baptist. Somebody say, "Amen." Right

  307. there. I ain't got time to preach that

  308. tonight, but we will sometime. Amen. But

  309. I notice in this text, there's an event

  310. that happens after the angel gives this

  311. man Zachcharias all these glad tidings.

  312. Notice Zachchariah's response in verse

  313. number verse number 18. Look what the

  314. Bible says. And Zachariah said unto the

  315. angel, "Whereby shall I know this? For

  316. I'm an old man and my wife well stricken

  317. in years." Now, on the surface right

  318. there, it does not sound like a

  319. statement that would be doubting. But I

  320. submit to you this statement is more

  321. than doubting. This is complete

  322. unbelief. You say, "Preacher, how is

  323. that?" Well, notice verse number 19 and

  324. 20. And the angel answering said unto

  325. him, "I am Gabriel that stand in the

  326. presence of God, and am sent to speak

  327. unto thee, and to show these glad

  328. tidings. And behold, thou shalt be dumb

  329. and not be able to speak until the day

  330. that these things shall be performed."

  331. Listen to it now. because thou believest

  332. not my words which shall be fulfilled in

  333. their season. And tonight with the help

  334. of the Lord I want to I want to take to

  335. preach to you on this subject tonight

  336. the the problems that accompanied

  337. unbelief.

  338. Problems that accompany unbelief. You

  339. say preacher well I'm saved tonight and

  340. I love Jesus. Well I'll tell you what I

  341. really believe Zacharias and his wife

  342. are saved. Amen. Bible says that they

  343. were righteous. They were righteous

  344. before God, walking in all the ordices

  345. and commandments of the Lord, blameless.

  346. God had blessed their home. No doubt in

  347. my mind. But I'll say this, just because

  348. you are saved does not mean that

  349. unbelief cannot creep into your life.

  350. >> Amen. And I want to show you tonight

  351. with the help of the Lord some things

  352. that happens when unbelief takes

  353. control.

  354. Y'all pray for me. My throat's done.

  355. You see in this text number one we we

  356. considered this this thought the

  357. introduction what all this angel reveals

  358. his birth the rejoicing the burden the

  359. building all that that John the Baptist

  360. is going to be able to do and

  361. Zachcharias has heard all of this but

  362. he's not focused on that look what he's

  363. focused on again in verse 18 whereby

  364. shall I know this all right what's the

  365. sign what how are you going to prove to

  366. me that this is really going to happen

  367. in my life look what He says, "Whereby

  368. shall I know this, for I'm an old man

  369. and my wife well stricken in years." And

  370. what you find in this text is that

  371. Zachcharias refused to believe the

  372. message that the angel gave to him. He

  373. refused to believe it. How is that,

  374. preacher? Well, I would say first of

  375. all, he did not believe the messenger.

  376. Notice verse 19. What does what does the

  377. angel say? He says, "And the angel

  378. answering said unto him, I am Gabriel."

  379. Why did Gabriel feel the need to

  380. vindicate himself?

  381. because Zachcharias didn't believe the

  382. messenger.

  383. You know, I think a lot of times in this

  384. day and time, a lot of the reason

  385. there's a lot of preachers, they may get

  386. get real uptight, real upset preaching

  387. because when their congregation will not

  388. adhere to the preaching, they will not

  389. submit to that thing. And it's simply

  390. because they do not they will they are

  391. not accepting of that preacher. You say,

  392. "Well, what is that? Who's wrong in that

  393. state?" Well, I'll say both of them is

  394. in that place, but in this place,

  395. Zachcharias is wrong. Amen. You say,

  396. "What's wrong about it?" Well, he did

  397. not believe [snorts] that this messenger

  398. was from God. He believed he saw a

  399. vision. But you know what? Gabriel says,

  400. "All right, let's just remove all doubt

  401. right here. I'm Gabriel." Look what he

  402. says about himself that stand in the

  403. presence of God. He vindicates his

  404. person. He also vindicates his

  405. authority. Look what he says. That stand

  406. in the presence of God. Hey, don't be

  407. casting down on me, Zacharias. I come

  408. from God above. Look what he says. And

  409. am sent to speak unto thee and to show

  410. thee these glad tidings. He said in

  411. Zachcharias, you should be happy. Boy, I

  412. can't tell you how many times I preached

  413. a sermon and the church ought to be

  414. happy.

  415. >> Amen. But it don't excite no. It don't

  416. excite nothing. There's no stirring.

  417. There's no excitement. There's no

  418. rejoicing. Amen. Because what? We miss

  419. the point

  420. >> of the message. Zachcharias has just

  421. been told they're going to have A BABY.

  422. THE PRAYER'S BEEN ANSWERED. EVERYTHING'S

  423. been done. GOD HAS COMPLETED THE WORK

  424. AND IT'S GOING TO HAPPEN, but he's so

  425. focused on himself. I'm too old. And I

  426. just don't know about you. You know,

  427. that's our problem, isn't it?

  428. >> We look too much on the messenger and on

  429. the one receiving the message and just

  430. forget about the message.

  431. >> We look at oursel and the one giving the

  432. message, but we don't take the message.

  433. Amen. Just take the message. Somebody

  434. say, "Amen."

  435. >> He didn't like the me. He didn't believe

  436. the messenger, but he also did not

  437. believe the message. Notice verse 20.

  438. And behold, thou shalt be dumb and not

  439. able to speak until the day that these

  440. things shall be performed because thou

  441. believest not my words which shall be

  442. fulfilled in their season. He did not

  443. believe the Holy Ghost by in inspiration

  444. the Holy Ghost that's recorded.

  445. Zachcharias did not believe the message.

  446. I want to give you four things tonight

  447. on what unbelief will bring about. The

  448. problems that come along with unbelief.

  449. Notice number one tonight I would say

  450. the Bible says in verse 20 he said

  451. behold thou shalt be dumb and not be

  452. able to speak until the day that these

  453. things shall be performed. I would say

  454. number one is presented here he did not

  455. believe the message. He did not believe

  456. the messenger but he also would not be

  457. able to speak. What happened out of

  458. this? Well number one he could not

  459. respond to the angel.

  460. Look what the Bible says. He said

  461. because thou believest not my words

  462. which shall be fulfilled in their

  463. season. And the people waited for

  464. Zacharias and marveled that he terried

  465. so long in the temple. And when he came

  466. out, he could not speak unto them. So

  467. when the angel pronounced this curse on

  468. him for this time period, you know what

  469. happened? He couldn't respond. You know

  470. why people can't say amen in the house

  471. of God? Because they don't believe what

  472. the preacher's preaching.

  473. >> Amen. You know the reason why he

  474. couldn't talk? Because he didn't believe

  475. what the preacher said to him. Amen.

  476. That's real simple, but that's real

  477. good. Amen. You know, the reason why he

  478. got shut off, cut off, and zipped up.

  479. Amen. Is because he did not believe. The

  480. reason why it gets quiet down at the

  481. house of God so many times is because

  482. you really don't believe what the

  483. preacher's preaching. And you couldn't

  484. what? What is it? He could not respond

  485. to the angel. There was no ability to

  486. respond to the truth that was presented

  487. to him because he did not believe. There

  488. was no desire to respond at first. But

  489. then when he wanted to say something,

  490. the angel said, "All right, you can't

  491. say nothing now." You know, here's the

  492. way this thing works. The Bible says

  493. that every mouth may be stopped at what?

  494. The law of God. He's the final

  495. authority. Let God be true and every man

  496. a liar. And when the preacher, the

  497. messenger, the teacher, whoever it is,

  498. amen, the soul winner gives the message,

  499. you know what? That sinner, that person

  500. out of the will of God, whoever it is,

  501. when they're in the wrong, when they're

  502. in unbelief, what's the best thing for

  503. them to do? Not say anything.

  504. >> And so, you know what? He does the work

  505. for him here. He's not able to respond

  506. to this angel. Many of the reason I'll

  507. say it again, the reason why people

  508. can't say amen to preaching is because

  509. they don't believe it. Amen. I noticed

  510. this. Not only he couldn't he couldn't

  511. uh respond to the angel, but he also

  512. could not reveal anything to the people.

  513. Notice verse 22. And when he came out,

  514. he could not speak unto them. And they

  515. perceived that he had seen a vision in

  516. the temple. For he beckoned unto them

  517. and remained speechless. Now think about

  518. this for just a minute with me. He's

  519. just been told he's going to have a

  520. baby. This man's old. No doubt his hair

  521. is gray and he's tired. Amen. He's been

  522. serving. I believe this feast goes for

  523. about a week long here that he's been

  524. serving in. And at the end when he comes

  525. out, he's been tearing a long time at

  526. this vision. And he comes out and what

  527. happens? He can't say anything. He can't

  528. tell them about the angel. He can't tell

  529. them about the blessing. He can't tell

  530. them about anything because he's been

  531. cut off.

  532. You know what happens when you're in

  533. unbelief? Not only it cuts you off being

  534. able to respond to the message, but it

  535. also cuts off you being able to reveal

  536. anything to anybody else. Let me say

  537. this to you. You say, "Preacher, well, I

  538. believe the gospel and I believe the

  539. truth and and this that and the I

  540. believe what's right, but that one thing

  541. that you said, there's just one thing

  542. you said. I just don't believe that."

  543. You know what happens when it comes down

  544. to the truth of this word of God? If you

  545. don't take it all, you lose it all.

  546. >> Amen. If you do not take God at his

  547. word, A to Z, front to back, amen,

  548. beginning to end, you do not have rights

  549. to any of it. You've got to take it all.

  550. And so, in order to be able to impart

  551. truth, you've got to be able to receive

  552. it. Paul said, "For I delivered unto you

  553. first of all, that which I also

  554. received, how that Christ died for our

  555. sins according to the scripture, and

  556. that he was buried, that he rose again

  557. the third day according to the

  558. scripture." You have to receive it in

  559. order to give it. AND BECAUSE HE WOULD

  560. NOT BELIEVE IT, he was not able to give

  561. it.

  562. You know, I think the reason a lot of

  563. people don't witness because they don't

  564. have anything to witness about.

  565. >> I think that's true. I think a lot of

  566. people will not testify of the grace of

  567. God is because they don't have anything

  568. to testify about. Amen. What I'm saying

  569. is Zachcharias got closed off not only

  570. to the angel, but he got closed off to

  571. the people. Here's what'll happen to you

  572. when you get an unbelief. You'll get

  573. closed off to the church. You'll get

  574. closed off to the preacher, closed off

  575. to the people, closed off even to your

  576. own family members when you're living in

  577. unbelief. I'm going somewhere. Stay with

  578. me. He could not respond to the angel.

  579. He could not reveal anything to the

  580. people. He couldn't tell the miracle. He

  581. couldn't tell the message or even about

  582. the messenger. He couldn't speak about

  583. the fact that he had saw an angel.

  584. Notice this. He couldn't only not reveal

  585. uh anything to the people, but he also

  586. couldn't rejoice with his family.

  587. I'm telling you, this is real stuff.

  588. Notice chapter number one, verse number

  589. 57. A lot of stuff that I could preach

  590. in between this, but I want to give you

  591. the message tonight. Look what he says

  592. in verse 57. Now Elizabeth's full time

  593. came that she should be delivered. And

  594. she brought forth a son, and her

  595. neighbors and her cousins heard how the

  596. Lord had showed great mercy upon her.

  597. Notice this. And they rejoiced with her.

  598. You see, Elizabeth's old, wellstricken

  599. in years. She's conceived John the

  600. Baptist in her womb. And they no doubt

  601. these Jerusalem, these ladies of

  602. Jerusalem, they knew the scripture. They

  603. knew what Isaiah 40 said that this

  604. promised one would be the forerunner of

  605. our Lord. And they're rejoicing that

  606. she's pregnant, but they're also

  607. rejoicing that prophecy is fulfilled.

  608. And they're also rejoicing that a prayer

  609. has been answered. You think about the

  610. blessing of this event, all the

  611. excitement, all the blessing, all the

  612. goodness of what's taking place in this

  613. text. And who's standing on the

  614. sidelines can't get in on it? Look what

  615. the Bible says. Verse 59. It came to

  616. pass that on the eth day they came to

  617. circumcise the child, and they called

  618. him Zacharias after the name of his

  619. father, and his mother answered and

  620. said, "Not so, but he shall be called

  621. John." And they said unto her, "There's

  622. none of thy kind that's called by this

  623. name." Notice verse 62. There he still

  624. can't talk. Look what this says. And

  625. they made signs to his father how they

  626. would have him called. And he asked for

  627. a writing table and wrote.

  628. He couldn't rejoice with them. You see

  629. what's happened here? Not only is he

  630. couldn't talk, but he also couldn't

  631. understand their rejoicing. Notice it

  632. again, verse 62. And they made signs

  633. to his father. He was on the outside of

  634. all the rejoicing. You ever been like

  635. that? Been to service, people get saved,

  636. saints getting help, God's moving in a

  637. big way. You know what? You're sitting

  638. on the outside of it. You know why?

  639. Unbelief.

  640. You say, "Preacher, what is it I don't

  641. believe?" Well, most time what it comes

  642. down to is you don't believe the sin

  643. you're living in is really sin.

  644. >> It's not. You say, "Preacher, I'M

  645. SAVED." WELL, I'M GLAD YOU'RE SAVED. But

  646. if you are living in sin, and when GOD

  647. POINTS THAT THING OUT IN YOUR LIFE, you

  648. say, "Well, I just don't know about

  649. that, Lord." You say, "Preacher, I

  650. wouldn't say." That's what you say by

  651. the way you respond to it. Amen. You

  652. respond. And so, THERE IS NO REJOICING.

  653. MAN, I HATE it for people when God

  654. blesses like he did here on last Sunday

  655. and we had two ladies get saved and yet

  656. isn't it amazing that still some people

  657. set stone face and dryeyed not even weep

  658. and not even bothered a little bit by

  659. the fact that other people WERE HERE

  660. LOST IT DOESN'T AFFECT THEM AT ALL

  661. >> THEY'RE NOT ABLE TO REJOICE THEY'RE NOT

  662. EVEN ABLE TO WEEP BECAUSE THEY ARE IN

  663. UNBELIEF well I just don't believe that

  664. was real preacher

  665. >> how many times you heard that

  666. >> what I'm saying is is you can't rejoice.

  667. You living in unbelief.

  668. >> He he he didn't know what their

  669. rejoicing was about. They made signs to

  670. him. Give you this fourthly and we'll

  671. move on here. I I consider he could not

  672. rejoice with his family. I'll say this.

  673. Unbelief will keep you from rejoicing

  674. with the people of God. Fourthly, I

  675. consider this. He also he could not

  676. rebuke those who are wrong about naming

  677. his son. You say, "What is that?" Well,

  678. notice the verse again. Verse 59. And it

  679. came to pass that on the eighth day, the

  680. eighth day, all Jewish boys were

  681. circumcised.

  682. They came to circumcise the child, and

  683. they called him Zacharias

  684. after the name of his father. Notice who

  685. speaks up in verse 60. Zachcharias knew

  686. what he was supposed to be called. Amen.

  687. But you know what? He's still living in

  688. the consequences of his unbelief. Notice

  689. verse 60. And his mother answered and

  690. said, "Not so, but he shall be called

  691. John." Verse 61. They're arguing with

  692. her. They said unto her, "There's none

  693. of thy kindred that's called by this

  694. name." But you see, none of them's heard

  695. the promise.

  696. None of them's heard the blessing. Who's

  697. the one that got told the promise?

  698. Zacharias did. But what's his problem?

  699. He can't tell it.

  700. Why? He's bound up by unbelief.

  701. You know what happens? Verse 62, they

  702. made signs to his father how he would

  703. have him called. And he asked for a

  704. writing table and rope saying, "His name

  705. is John." Here's the miracle of this.

  706. Verse 63 is where it turns. You see, the

  707. miracle of unbelief for a child of God

  708. is you don't have to stay there.

  709. >> Amen. Boy, ain't that good, Brother

  710. Rick? Man, I'm telling you, when you get

  711. when you get out of sorts with God, I

  712. like old preacher said, you need to keep

  713. short accounts with God. Amen. Hey, when

  714. you got sin in your life, the best thing

  715. you can do is deal with that thing the

  716. moment that it gets pointed out. Amen.

  717. Deal with it as quick as you can. If you

  718. know it's wrong, you confess it and

  719. forsake it. Amen. Zachariah suffered for

  720. the consequences of this the entirety of

  721. his wife's pregnancy.

  722. >> Notice the text. He asked for riding

  723. table and wrote, saying his name is

  724. John. And they marveled. They could not

  725. understand. You see, he couldn't rebuke

  726. those that were wrong about naming his

  727. son. You know what you lose the ability

  728. to do? And I'm going to get on with the

  729. message here. You know what you lose the

  730. ability to do when you are in unbelief

  731. to correct somebody that's wrong?

  732. You say, "What is that, preacher?" Well,

  733. you try to chasen your children when

  734. you're wrong.

  735. You try to correct them. I mean, it's

  736. like that text said Jesus said, "Hey, if

  737. you got a beam in your own eye, quit

  738. worrying about the moat that's in your

  739. brother's eye." Amen. Hey, if you got a

  740. 2x4 sticking out of your head, don't

  741. worry about the splinter at somebody

  742. else's God. You ought to try sometime to

  743. rebuke somebody and you're not right

  744. with God. You lose all ability to bring

  745. correction because you're not right.

  746. >> This good preaching. Amen. If I am doing

  747. it. Amen. Notice this. I'm not being

  748. proud tonight. I'm just, you know how I

  749. am. I'm sorry. Notice this. All right.

  750. You see, his belief is seen the moment

  751. that he agrees with his wife. Verse 63.

  752. He asked for riding table and rope,

  753. saying his name is John. You know what?

  754. It's at this moment that the curse is

  755. lifted. Notice verse 64. And his mouth

  756. was opened what? immediately and his

  757. tongue loose and he spake and praise

  758. God. Could you imagine living the entire

  759. nine months? Now, I can't verify this,

  760. but I tell you, I believe it's what the

  761. text teaches. The entirety of her

  762. pregnancy, he's an unbelief. She's

  763. walking around in the 39th week about to

  764. pop and he's still not believing. Amen.

  765. John, he makes his entrance into the

  766. world.

  767. He still can't talk. Eight days he's

  768. circumcised. Eight days later,

  769. circumcised. Verse 61,62 they're asking

  770. him, "What are we going to name him?" He

  771. still can't talk. But the moment when he

  772. writes it down, you know what? That

  773. manifest is belief.

  774. I believe. What happens? His mouth was

  775. opened immediately. His belief is seen

  776. the moment he agrees with Elizabeth. He

  777. gives the writing in verse 63. But out

  778. of that writing, he then gives his words

  779. in verse 64. What's the first thing that

  780. he says in verse 64? His mouth was

  781. opened immediately and his tongue loose.

  782. What's this say? And he spake and what?

  783. Praise God. Hey, when you get out of

  784. unbelief, you know what the first thing

  785. you'll do?

  786. >> Bless his name. Amen. Hey, I'll tell you

  787. what, it's miserable to live and walk in

  788. unbelief knowing God's dealt with your

  789. heart about something. Hey, when you

  790. finally turn loose to that thing and God

  791. sets your tongue loose, boy, I'm telling

  792. you, man, I'm saying there's been times

  793. in my life where I refuse to do or

  794. believe what God told me to believe or

  795. do. And man, the moment when I let go of

  796. THAT THING, IT'S LIKE GLORY OPENING MY

  797. SOUL AND IN MY HEART JUST A WELLING UP

  798. OF THANKS UNTO HIM. WHY? BECAUSE WHEN

  799. I'M SHUT DOWN FOR SO LONG, HEY, I MISS

  800. THE FELLOWSHIP WITH THE ONE THAT I LOVE

  801. MOST. I MISS THAT OPPORTUNITY TO PRAISE

  802. HIS NAME OF THE BEST. THE HALLELUJAH.

  803. HE'S THE BEST THING THAT'S EVER HAPPENED

  804. TO ANY OF US. And I'm telling you, your

  805. unbelief will hinder you

  806. >> from praising him. Oh, but when you get

  807. it settled, the first thing you'll do is

  808. you'll bless his name. Amen. His words,

  809. note the witness in verse 65, look what

  810. happens out of this. Isn't it

  811. interesting? This that this is

  812. completely reversed.

  813. He couldn't respond to the angel first.

  814. Now he's praising God.

  815. Second of all, he couldn't reveal

  816. anything to the people. But now notice

  817. verse 65. And fear came on all them that

  818. dwelt around them. And all these sayings

  819. were noised abroad throughout all the

  820. hill country of Judea. Where he couldn't

  821. talk before, now the people's hearing

  822. what he's got to say. Notice it again.

  823. Verse 66. And all they that heard them

  824. laid them up in their hearts, saying,

  825. "What manner of child shall this be?"

  826. And the hand of the Lord was with him.

  827. You know what? He got to rejoice with

  828. his family.

  829. >> Everything you lose in unbelief, you can

  830. gain back the moment that you choose to

  831. believe.

  832. >> Amen. Notice it in the text here.

  833. There's the witness in verse 65. Fear

  834. came on all them that dwelt around about

  835. them. Then there's the wonder in verse

  836. 66. What manner of child shall this be?

  837. And in verse 67 all the way down through

  838. verse 79, Zachcharias gives a prophecy.

  839. And what's interesting about this

  840. prophecy is Zachcharias is not talking

  841. about John at first, but he begins

  842. talking about the salvation of Jesus

  843. Christ. Look what he says. Verse 68 is

  844. verse 67. His father Zacharias was

  845. filled with the Holy Ghost and

  846. prophesied saying, "Blessed be the Lord

  847. God of Israel, for he hath visited and

  848. redeemed his people and hath raised up a

  849. horn of salvation for us in the house of

  850. his servant David." That wasn't John the

  851. Baptist. That's Jesus. He's praising God

  852. not for his son, but for God's son.

  853. Amen. Hey, the blessing of John the

  854. Baptist, you know what John did? EVEN

  855. BEFORE HE EVER PREACHED A SERMON, John

  856. the Baptist pointed his own daddy, to

  857. the real son of God. HALLELUJAH. POINTED

  858. him to Jesus and said, "He's the one

  859. that's worthy. HE'S THE HORN OF

  860. SALVATION. HE'S THE MESSIAH." LOOK WHAT

  861. HE says in verse 70. as he spake by the

  862. mouth of his holy prophets, which have

  863. been since the world began, that we

  864. should be saved from our enemies and

  865. from the hand of all them that hate us.

  866. And through all the way through verse

  867. number 75, he speaks of Jesus. But then

  868. in verse 76, he gets to his own son. He

  869. speaks of the salvation of Jesus, but he

  870. gives the service of John in verse 76.

  871. And thou child shalt be called the

  872. prophet of the highest. For thou shalt

  873. go before the face of the Lord to

  874. prepare his ways to give knowledge of

  875. salvation unto his people by the

  876. remission of their sins through the

  877. tender mercy of our God. Whereby the

  878. dayspring from on high visited us. I'm

  879. telling you, when you get out of

  880. unbelief,

  881. you'll have a shouting spell, a praise

  882. fest. Amen. For lack of a better way to

  883. put it, you'll have an oldtime

  884. bentecostal shouting fit. Amen.

  885. >> Let me say this to you tonight as we

  886. close.

  887. Let me ask you something. What's

  888. unbelief hindering you from?

  889. You see, unbelief brings about a lot of

  890. problems with it. But I tell you, here's

  891. the number one problem with unbelief.

  892. You know what what it brings? It brings

  893. it brings a a disunityity and a lack of

  894. fellowship. Bible says if we say that we

  895. have fellowship and we walk in darkness,

  896. we lie and do not the truth.

  897. If you're walking in darkness, walking

  898. in unbelief, let me tell you, he's still

  899. the light of the world. And if he's

  900. light enough to save you, he is light

  901. enough to secure you and to satisfy you.

  902. >> Amen. There is nothing worth living in

  903. unbelief. Amen. Every head bowed and

  904. every eye closed. Father, thank you for

  905. this time tonight. Lord, I know it's

  906. been different service, but God, I thank

  907. you for it. And Lord, I pray tonight,

  908. Lord, that you would please help us all

  909. take inventory,

  910. God. What things is, Lord, these these

  911. remnants of unbelief are in all of our

  912. hearts many times. God, help us just to

  913. be fully submissive to you,

  914. God. Whatever it is we need to turn over

  915. to you, Lord. If it's our life, if it's

  916. our job, if it's our family, if it's our

  917. time, God, help us not be in unbelief.

  918. [music] But Lord, let us just simply

  919. trust you. Cuz Lord, I don't want to

  920. miss out on fellowship with you. I don't

  921. want to miss out on fellowship with this

  922. church and the people that I love, God,

  923. because of unbelief.

  924. I don't want to be able, Lord, I don't

  925. want to be hindered from sharing about

  926. the blessings that you have given me

  927. because of my unbelief. [music]

  928. Lord, I sure love you. I thank you for

  929. loving me.

  930. Every head still bowed, every eyes

  931. closed for just a moment of time. I'm

  932. going to give you time if you want to

  933. come pray and come do that.

  934. I tell you this tonight, unbelief will

  935. keep us from the blessings of God.

  936. Unbelief is the cardinal sin of

  937. humanity.

  938. Bible says there in the book of John,

  939. Jesus talked about the country. He re he

  940. reproved the world of sin and of

  941. righteousness and of judgment. He said

  942. because they believe not on me. Let me

  943. tell you this tonight, child of God. If

  944. you can trust him for your salvation,

  945. you can trust him for everything else.

  946. Amen. If you can trust him to get you to

  947. heaven, I can promise you you can trust

  948. him for the small matters of this life

  949. and he'll be enough. Amen. Father, thank

  950. you once again for this time. Thank you

  951. for these truths tonight from the word

  952. of God. Lord, I sure love you. Thank you

  953. for our church. Pray you bless us as we

  954. depart tonight. We ask it in Jesus name.

  955. Amen.
