  7. join Pastor Charlie Branch with a word

  8. from God.

  9. [music]

  10. >> Thank you for being here, brother. We

  11. appreciate it. Thank you.

  12. >> Have you have you want to close up? It's

  13. all yours.

  14. >> All right. Thank you so much. Thank you,

  15. sir.

  16. >> All right. Good evening, everybody.

  17. Thank you for being here tonight.

  18. And uh when I talked to your pastor

  19. earlier and uh the first time I don't

  20. think he knew he was going to the home

  21. office and then he texted me back and he

  22. said, "I want you to know when you are

  23. going to be representing Rock of Ages,

  24. I'm going to be at Rock of Ages." I

  25. said, "Well, praise the Lord." And so

  26. he's there at the home office helping

  27. them and I greatly appreciate that.

  28. But uh go ahead and take your Bible to

  29. go to Luke chapter 2. And then I'm going

    Luke 2 chapter mention

  30. to give you an update real quickly about

  31. the work that's going on. The first

  32. thing I'd like to do is thank you for

  33. praying for my wife. And my wife is here

  34. tonight. So uh Dreamer, would you please

  35. stand? And uh uh the Lord has blessed

  36. her tremendously. And I want to thank

  37. you so much for praying for her. I know

  38. uh many of you knew that she was in the

  39. hospital here a while back and and they

  40. they thought that her cancer had

  41. returned and so they were testing her

  42. every way imaginable and uh after all

  43. those tests was over, she heard

  44. something that she had never heard

  45. before.

  46. the doctor came in and looked her eye to

  47. eye and said, "You are absolutely

  48. cancer-free."

  49. >> Amen.

  50. >> She'd never heard that. And so that's

  51. now what 10 years. Uh and so to God be

  52. the glory. We we knew she didn't show

  53. signs, but a doctor had never said,

  54. "You're cancer-free."

  55. The only problem was they just they

  56. still didn't know what was wrong. And so

  57. they continued to do tests. They found

  58. out her neck vertebrae was not um I

  59. don't want to I don't know how the right

  60. way to say it. It wasn't aligned

  61. properly. And so uh uh she has been

  62. having to go to a specialist that does

  63. uh chiropractic work up here next to the

  64. skull and she sees him three times a

  65. week. And uh they have found out that by

  66. moving that back it is helping her

  67. tremendously.

  68. And so to God be the glory. We thank God

  69. for that. And so thank you so much for

  70. praying for her. We didn't know if we

  71. were even going to get to make this

  72. trip. And so I'm glad that she's able to

  73. be with me. Her mom's with us tonight.

  74. We're visiting with her. And so we

  75. appreciate her traveling down with us

  76. this evening. And then to give you an

  77. update, last year we were praying that

  78. we would see approximately 500 inmates

  79. saved in the state of California. Well,

  80. to give you an update, we didn't see 500

  81. saved this year.

  82. >> We saw over 700 saved this year in the

  83. state of California. To God be the

  84. glory. And not only that, but we were

  85. praying that God would send another

  86. family to California to help us. God

  87. answered that prayer. We now have

  88. another family that is there in

  89. California and going into the prisons

  90. helping us. Also, the go uh not only

  91. that, but God has enlarged our coast and

  92. Dr. Ellis met with me and talked with me

  93. back in the summer and asked me if I

  94. would be willing to serve as the western

  95. representative of Rock of Ages

  96. Ministries. And what that means is now

  97. not only am I working in California, but

  98. I'm working in all nine western states.

  99. And uh so we have 13 missionary families

  100. that are in nine western states. And so

  101. God has enlarged our coast and we're

  102. seeing some amazing things happening.

  103. One of those things is this. We're

  104. getting ready to start a work in Canada.

  105. That is amazing. It's never uh we've

  106. never had a ministry in Canada. And I

  107. went to Spokane, Washington here

  108. recently and and uh one of the pastors

  109. came and met with me there. We we talked

  110. for three days about different things

  111. about reaching Canada. And I want you to

  112. pray. the end of February, I'll be

  113. flying to Vancouver and uh and I will be

  114. teaching pastors how to go into the

  115. prisons and how to have a prison

  116. ministry and how they can be part of

  117. Rock of Ages and how they can uh have a

  118. Bible institute and all this type of

  119. stuff. And so we'll be working with them

  120. and for about a week there in Vancouver.

  121. So, and then since we lined this up, now

  122. we're having other areas of Canada get

  123. in touch with us. And so, I don't know

  124. how far this will go, but we're praying

  125. that a sweep all the way across the

  126. country there. So, please pray about

  127. that. And then I want to thank you for

  128. your support for us and the office in

  129. California. And now that office is the

  130. Western Regional Office of Rock of Ages.

  131. And uh I want you to pray about this

  132. when I get back. I've already talked to

  133. the owner about this and uh he has

  134. agreed he's going to meet with me. I've

  135. already made an offer and and I don't

  136. know what he'll do on this. But the

  137. office where we are, there's an office

  138. right beside it that is twice the size.

  139. It already has the secretarial area of

  140. the office. It's already there. The desk

  141. is already there. The executive office,

  142. the desk, the bookcases, chairs,

  143. everything is already there. Internet is

  144. already there. And so what we're talking

  145. about is switching offices. And I want

  146. you to pray about that. I know there

  147. will be an added cost. Uh everything's

  148. expensive out there. There's nothing

  149. cheap. And just for the office we have,

  150. it's $1,000 a month. But in California,

  151. that's cheap because I'm getting the

  152. electricity and I'm getting the internet

  153. and I'm getting the the trash and and

  154. septic. We have restrooms and all this

  155. along with the office. And so we know

  156. this will be more than that, but I want

  157. you to pray. I believe God wants us to

  158. have it. And uh I've already talked with

  159. my pastor, Pastor Jack Triber at North

  160. Valley. I've talked with uh Dr. Ellis.

  161. And we're praying. And I believe that's

  162. what God wants us to do is move forward

  163. in the ministry. And we have already

  164. seen prisons taking notice of a

  165. particular place that you're based at.

  166. They take notice of that. And you say,

  167. "Well, what's the big deal about having

  168. an office?" Well, when you can give them

  169. an exact spot and an address,

  170. they say, "Oh, you mean you're here in

  171. California or you're on the West Coast

  172. or you're here to stay or you're here

  173. serious about and they look at it as

  174. being serious about this." So do

  175. churches.

  176. Years ago, Rock of Ages had an office

  177. out in Portland. Well, what happened

  178. with that office is Dr. Ellis was in

  179. that office and when he left to become

  180. the president of Rock of Ages, then that

  181. office closed. So people thought Rock of

  182. Ages left the West Coast and was no

  183. longer there. So what we're doing now is

  184. letting people know we are here. There

  185. is a work going on and God is blessing

  186. that. So please keep that a matter of

  187. prayer. So let me just give you a quick

  188. schedule. When I get back to California,

  189. we'll be here three weeks. We'll go

  190. back. I'll be in four prisons. As soon

  191. as I finish those four prisons, I'll fly

  192. to Tucson, Arizona. I'll be there for a

  193. weekend teaching and preaching. Then

  194. I'll leave there and go to Salt Lake

  195. City, Utah, where I'll be preaching at

  196. the Utah State Prison. Fly back, be in

  197. this uh uh prisons in California, and

  198. then fly to Vancouver and be there for a

  199. week and teaching and preaching. Come

  200. back. Then we'll be bringing all the

  201. western missionaries to where we are in

  202. California. We'll be working with them

  203. there for a week teaching and training

  204. and then we'll get ready to go to

  205. Alaska. And I had to postpone my trip to

  206. Alaska when my wife was in the hospital.

  207. But we'll be headed back to Alaska and

  208. I'll be meeting with three missionary

  209. families there, going into all the

  210. prisons throughout Alaska, meeting the

  211. different ones that are in charge there.

  212. And so we have a busy schedule and a lot

  213. of airtime, a lot of air miles, a lot of

  214. plane trips, and it gets very expensive.

  215. So I want to say thank you so much for

  216. your support because without you,

  217. there's no way we could be getting into

  218. the places we're getting into. And uh

  219. thank you so very, very much for that.

  220. All right, and keep praying and keep

  221. praying for my wife if you would too.

  222. All right, we appreciate that so much.

  223. All right, let's take our Bibles

  224. tonight. Let's go to Luke chapter 2, and

    Luke 2 chapter mention

  225. I know at Christmas time, if you're like

  226. me, every year at Christmas time,

  227. especially when when the children were

  228. growing up, which me my wife and I still

  229. do this, we go through and read the

  230. Christmas story. And it's just not

  231. Christmas without the Christmas story.

  232. Uh when the uh kids were growing up, we

  233. always Christmas day, we read the

  234. Christmas story. She baked a birthday

  235. cake for Jesus and we had had a birthday

  236. party and all that type of stuff. We we

  237. wanted our children to understand

  238. Christmas is about Christ,

  239. >> right?

  240. >> That that's You say, "Well, well, we

  241. don't know that he was born on that

  242. day." Well, we might not know he was

  243. born on that exact day, but I know he

  244. was born.

  245. >> So, I'm going to celebrate it. All

  246. right.

  247. >> And uh so that's what we did as a

  248. family. You may do the same thing.

  249. And as I was reading through here and

  250. honestly the thought never really hit me

  251. like this to just recently, you know,

  252. it's amazing. The Bible gives you

  253. something new all the time.

  254. >> Amen.

  255. >> And I I don't know how many times I've

  256. read through this. And what I give you

  257. tonight, you probably say, "Well, I've

  258. known that. We've been teaching that for

  259. years." Well, I just didn't think of it

  260. this way. In Luke chapter 2, of course,

    Luke 2 chapter mention

  261. we know the first seven verses talks

  262. about the Lord Jesus being born. They've

  263. went up to uh out of the house and

  264. lineage of David and uh they've went out

  265. of the city of Nazareth into Judea into

  266. Bethlehem. And we know that she gave

  267. forth her firstborn son, wrapped him in

  268. swaddling clothes, laid him in a manger.

  269. We know there was no room for them in

  270. the end. Now, I want us to get down to

  271. the shepherds.

  272. The Bible says in verse number eight,

  273. "And there were in the same country

  274. shepherds abiding in the field, keeping

  275. watch over their flock by night," "And

  276. lo, the angel of the Lord came upon

  277. them, and the glory of the Lord shone

  278. round about them, they were sore

  279. afraid." Now, I don't know about you, if

  280. I'd have been out there and that was

  281. happening, I probably would have been

  282. scared to death, too. That's

  283. >> right.

  284. And the Bible says, "And the angel said

  285. unto them, Fear not, for behold, I bring

  286. you good tidings of great joy, which

  287. shall be to all people, for unto you is

  288. born this day in the city of David a

  289. Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And

  290. this shall be a sign unto you. Ye shall

  291. find the babe wrapped in swaddling

  292. clothes, lying in a manger." And

  293. suddenly there was with the angel a

  294. multitude of the heavenly hosts praising

  295. God and saying, "Glory to God in the

  296. highest, and on earth peace, good will

  297. toward men." And it came to pass, as the

  298. angels were gone away from them into

  299. heaven. The shepherds said one to

  300. another, "Let us now go even under

  301. Bethlehem, and see this thing which has

  302. come to pass, which the Lord hath made

  303. known unto us." and they came with haste

  304. and found Mary and Joseph and the babe

  305. lying in a manger. Now the Christmas

  306. story is filled with wonder, is filled

  307. with worship and divine purpose.

  308. Yet among all the characters in the

  309. nativity,

  310. there's probably none more surprising or

  311. more instructive than the shepherds.

  312. They were simple men.

  313. They were working the night shift.

  314. They were unnoticed by the world.

  315. But heaven noticed them. And God

  316. bypassed the palace,

  317. ignored the temple elites,

  318. stepped past the wealthy and the noble,

  319. and he sent the angelic announcement to

  320. men whom society considered unimportant.

  321. >> Right?

  322. And when the angels departed,

  323. the Bible tells us [clears throat]

  324. the shepherds did something interesting.

  325. The Bible says in verse 16, they came

  326. with haste.

  327. Now, I want you to understand something

  328. for just a moment. I've read that for

  329. years, but in reality, this is what that

  330. verse is saying. The shepherds ran,

  331. >> right?

  332. They did not walk.

  333. They did not wait.

  334. They did not delay.

  335. The shepherds

  336. ran.

  337. As I began to think about, I'm thinking,

  338. wait a minute, the running shepherds,

  339. man, the shepherds, they they took off.

  340. They ran. And then the question was

  341. this. What moved them with such urgency

  342. to run to Christ?

  343. what compelled their feet and filled

  344. their hearts to make them run to Christ.

  345. So, I want to give you a few reasons

  346. tonight why I believe the shepherds ran

  347. to Jesus. Let's pray together. Father,

  348. we love you. I pray that you would help

  349. us this evening. I pray that you would

  350. guide my words, give me wisdom, and

  351. Father, I pray that you would speak to

  352. our hearts. Thank you for these

  353. wonderful people tonight. Lord bless our

  354. time together in Jesus name. Amen.

  355. [snorts]

  356. >> They ran. They ran. Why would a group of

  357. shepherds run? Well, first of all, I

  358. believe they ran because of a heavenly

  359. revelation.

  360. You look back at verse number 15 where

  361. the Bible says this. Let us now go even

  362. unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which

  363. has come to pass, which the Lord hath

  364. made known unto us. The shepherds move

  365. because God spoke to them. When heaven

  366. reveals something, it demands a human

  367. response,

  368. >> right?

  369. >> God himself revealed his glory to the

  370. shepherds. Think about that.

  371. >> Well, the night sky exploded with the

  372. divine glory of God. And the Bible says

  373. the glory of the Lord shone round about

  374. them. Think about that. The majesty of

  375. Almighty God was on display that night

  376. for all the shepherds to see. Can I tell

  377. you, there was no way you and I could

  378. get to God. But I sure am glad God came

  379. to me. And I sure am glad God came to

  380. you. And over in the book of Acts,

  381. chapter number 7, the Bible says this

  382. concerning Abraham. He said, "Men and

  383. brethren and fathers hearken, the God of

  384. glory appeared unto our father Abraham

  385. when he was in Mesopotamia before he

  386. dwelt in Heron. The God of glory

  387. appeared unto him. I'm talking about the

  388. God who created glory. THE GOD WHO

  389. STEPPED OUT OF GLORY. The one who had a

  390. glorious birth and announced a was

  391. announced by a glorious star. Who lived

  392. a glorious life and then died a glorious

  393. death and he had a glorious resurrection

  394. and then a glorious ascension. And he

  395. sent his glorious spirit and gave us joy

  396. unspeakable and full of glory. Has God

  397. to prepare us a glorious mansion? AND A

  398. GLORIOUS angel is going to blow a

  399. glorious trumpet. AND THE DEAD WILL HAVE

  400. A GLORIOUS RESURRECTION. And those alive

  401. will have a glorious ascension. AND WE

  402. WILL LIVE in glory FOR ALL ETERNITY.

  403. WHY? BECAUSE THE GOD OF GLORY was on

  404. display that night. Right.

  405. >> AND THE SAME GOD THAT SHOWED HIS GLORY

  406. TO ABRAHAM. AND THE SAME GOD THAT SHOWED

  407. HIS GLORY TO THE SHEPHERDS, I SURE AM

  408. GLAD HE SHOWED ME HIS GLORY ONE DAY. AND

  409. THE HOLY GHOST OF GOD CONVICTED ME. AND

  410. I SAW MY NEED OF A SAVIOR. AND I BOWED

  411. MY KNEES TO HIM. AND I CRIED OUT FOR

  412. MERCY. AND IMMEDIATELY God saved my

  413. soul.

  414. >> Amen. And can I tell you tonight,

  415. church, that's why they ran. They saw

  416. the majesty of Almighty God. And they

  417. were saying, you know what? This is not

  418. a message for you. This is not a message

  419. for them. This is a message for me. God

  420. came to me. God is speaking to me.

  421. Before they ever ran to Bethlehem, light

  422. ran to them. Before they found Christ,

  423. Christ found them. And the church,

  424. listen to me. Anytime the Lord shines a

  425. light of his word into a human heart, it

  426. demands movement. And the shepherds ran

  427. because revelation always calls for a

  428. response.

  429. >> Right?

  430. >> I want you to notice. Secondly, God

  431. revealed good news to them. I'm getting

  432. tired of hearing bad news all the time.

  433. >> Amen.

  434. >> You cannot even turn on Fox News anymore

  435. without something bad being said.

  436. >> Right.

  437. >> CNN is all bad. MSNBC is all bad. I

  438. mean, you name it, it's all bad. And you

  439. go around and you can tell and it's

  440. affecting people all the time. People

  441. who hear bad news, they walk around mad

  442. all the time,

  443. >> right?

  444. >> And frustrated and down and and and the

  445. last thing you want to do is ask

  446. somebody how they're doing because for

  447. the next 30 minutes, they're going to

  448. tell you how bad it is,

  449. >> right?

  450. >> But can I tell you, we need some good

  451. news.

  452. >> Amen. And the good news is the gospel of

  453. Jesus Christ. The angel said, "I bring

  454. you good tidings." That's good news of

  455. great joy. For unto you is born this day

  456. in the city of David a savior. You see,

  457. this wasn't religion. This wasn't a

  458. ritual. This wasn't another law. And it

  459. wasn't another burden. This was good

  460. news of great joy for every single one.

  461. You're

  462. >> right. A savior had come.

  463. >> Not a judge, not a general, not a

  464. religious reformer. A savior.

  465. >> Amen.

  466. >> The answer to sin, the answer to sorrow,

  467. the answer to eternal separation. Hey,

  468. Jesus had come.

  469. >> No wonder they ran. Right?

  470. >> When God reveals a savior, the only

  471. reasonable response is urgency.

  472. >> Right?

  473. >> God revealed good news to them. And

  474. then, may I say, God revealed a personal

  475. message to them. I I can't get away from

  476. the word you. Unto you is born this day,

  477. >> right?

  478. >> Unto you. I want you to think for just a

  479. moment. Hey, when I think about the

  480. goodness of God and the blessings of

  481. God, I believe all of us could say, "God

  482. has been good." But how many of us can

  483. say, "God's been good to me."

  484. >> Amen.

  485. >> Hey, God's been good to me. It's

  486. individual. God has been good to me. God

  487. has been good to you. And here he is

  488. coming to those shepherds. He didn't

  489. come to Israel alone. He didn't come to

  490. the priest alone. He didn't come to the

  491. kings alone. He didn't even come to the

  492. elite alone. HE CAME to you and to me

  493. when he spoke to those shepherds that

  494. night.

  495. >> You see the shepherds understood

  496. God spoke to me.

  497. God came for me.

  498. >> Right.

  499. >> Heaven noticed me.

  500. >> Amen.

  501. >> You'd be amazed

  502. sometimes when I talk to those inmates

  503. and I begin to describe to them the love

  504. of God. You'll be amazed as they will

  505. sit there with tears running down their

  506. face and they'll look back and say,

  507. "Preacher, are you telling me God loves

  508. me?"

  509. >> Right?

  510. >> Many of them have never heard anybody

  511. loving them before.

  512. >> Right?

  513. >> Many of them can never imagine anybody

  514. loving them because they all they know

  515. is about what they did and what they

  516. have done and and what's going to

  517. happen. And when you begin to explain to

  518. them the love of God, how that the Bible

  519. tells us, but God committed his love

  520. toward us and that while we were yet

  521. sinners, Christ died for us. AND WHEN

  522. THEY GET A GRIP on that and get a hold

  523. on that, God changes their whole life.

  524. You see,

  525. >> right?

  526. >> I want you to notice they ran because

  527. God revealed demanded God revealed

  528. demanded a response from their feet.

  529. I want you to notice secondly tonight

  530. they ran because of a holy

  531. responsibility.

  532. >> Yes,

  533. >> a holy responsibility. Verse number 15

  534. says, "Let us now go and see this thing

  535. which has come to pass."

  536. They understood that when God speaks,

  537. man must act. You're

  538. >> right.

  539. >> Uh they refuse to delay.

  540. Notice notice the words. Let us now go.

  541. Now go. Delayed obedience is

  542. disobedience. You're

  543. >> right.

  544. >> Amen.

  545. >> They didn't wait for sunrise.

  546. They didn't wait until their shift was

  547. over. They didn't wait until it was a

  548. more convenient time.

  549. >> Good.

  550. >> When God calls, the time is right now.

  551. >> You're right. You see, the Bible says it

  552. this way. Behold, now is the accepted

  553. time.

  554. >> Now is the accepted time. You know, when

  555. I get excited is when I'm preaching

  556. sometimes in the prisons there. I've

  557. seen this out in the yard. I've seen it

  558. even in the chapels. And I'll be

  559. preaching and while I'm preaching, I'm

  560. talking I'm not even done yet. I'm still

  561. preaching. I'm still giving them thus

  562. sayaith the Lord. And I'll see men get

  563. up out of the pews and out of the seats

  564. and and off the bleachers and begin

  565. walking down. And they get down here

  566. with tears running down their face and

  567. they start asking God for mercy and

  568. start asking God for grace. YOU SEE,

  569. WHEN GOD SPEAKS, now is the time, not

  570. some other time.

  571. >> Hey, I I I don't have to wait till an

  572. invitation is given. I I I don't have to

  573. wait until somebody says come forward.

  574. When God speaks, that's when you need to

  575. uh act upon the the what he tells you to

  576. do. So many times we sit back and we're

  577. we're glued in, man. We got our hands on

  578. the pews and we're we're you know, we

  579. sing that song, I shall not be moved,

  580. you know,

  581. >> and here we are. We're going to stay

  582. right here.

  583. What are we going to do when God speaks?

  584. >> I was told this years ago. There's only

  585. two times you need to go to an altar.

  586. Number one is when God speaks to you.

  587. >> You're right.

  588. >> The second time is when God doesn't

  589. speak to you.

  590. >> You're right. Amen. That's good.

  591. >> Because if God's not speaking to you,

  592. something's wrong somewhere,

  593. >> right? I

  594. >> I mean, it it should be automatic. We

  595. walk and talk with God. I mean, that

  596. that just ought to be the way it is. I

  597. talk with him. He talks with me. And you

  598. say, "Well, how does he talk to you?" He

  599. talks to me through his word as I read

  600. the word of God. He speaks to me. He

  601. speaks to me during the preaching as I

  602. listen to the preacher. God begins to

  603. speak to me. He speaks to me through my

  604. mind. He puts things in my mind

  605. immediately. Have you ever been in

  606. church and it seemed like the preacher

  607. was preaching exactly what you needed at

  608. that very moment. Can I tell you how

  609. THAT WORKS? THAT'S GOD speaking to you.

  610. >> And boy, when God speaks you, that's the

  611. time to act.

  612. >> Right?

  613. >> Do it right then. I might not have

  614. breath at the end of THE SERVICE. I

  615. MIGHT NOT HAVE BREATH TO COME back

  616. Sunday night. I MIGHT NOT HAVE BREATH TO

  617. COME back next week. BUT AS LONG AS I

  618. GOT BREATH IN ME RIGHT NOW, God wants to

  619. see me move for him.

  620. >> And they ran. They ran.

  621. Oh, I find here that the reason many

  622. Christians live powerless lives is that

  623. they know about Christ, but they do not

  624. run to Christ. Good.

  625. >> I want to know him.

  626. >> I want to know him. I want you to notice

  627. not only they wanted to see for

  628. themselves. As the Bible says, and see

  629. this thing which has come to pass, these

  630. shepherds, they said, "Look, we got to

  631. get to where he is. I don't want to take

  632. somebody else's word for it. I realize

  633. that was the angels, but let me tell

  634. you, I want to go see for myself. I I I

  635. want firthand knowledge. I don't want

  636. hearsay salvation. I want to know for

  637. sure. I want to see with my eyes. I want

  638. to experience it.

  639. >> Amen.

  640. >> And they took off running.

  641. Too many people today know about the

  642. Lord, but they don't know the Lord.

  643. >> Good.

  644. >> Just because they use God's name does

  645. not mean they're serving the same God

  646. you and I are serving.

  647. >> Amen.

  648. >> Just because they say Jesus once in a

  649. while does not mean that they know the

  650. Jesus you and I know tonight.

  651. >> Amen. That's right. Can I tell you Jesus

  652. Christ is the virginborn son of Mary. He

  653. is not Satan's brother. That's

  654. >> right.

  655. >> There are people tonight that believe

  656. that Jesus and Lucifer are brothers.

  657. >> Hey, can I We live in a sad state

  658. tonight. I go into prisons where they

  659. teach that stuff. Jesus and Lucifer are

  660. brothers. I go into prisons where they

  661. have lockers all over. One of them will

  662. say Catholicism. One of them will say

  663. Mormons. One of them will say uh Jehovah

  664. Witness. One of them will say Seventh

  665. Day Adventist. One of them will say

  666. Wikah. One of them will say Mormons. And

  667. then they'll have one that says other.

  668. >> Guess where we are?

  669. >> We're the other.

  670. We're the one that's different from all

  671. those. You're

  672. >> right.

  673. >> You see, we're the one that serves a

  674. living savior. Amen.

  675. >> We're the one that has something to

  676. celebrate come Christmas morning. The

  677. birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus

  678. Christ,

  679. >> God incarnate, God in the flesh. We've

  680. got something to celebrate,

  681. >> right?

  682. >> We've got something to run about.

  683. >> I want you to notice they ran. They ran.

  684. I want you to notice they recognized God

  685. was inviting them to come.

  686. Have you ever thought about that? God is

  687. inviting each one of us to come to where

  688. he is.

  689. >> Right?

  690. >> I'm not talking about you say, "Well, I

  691. know when I die, I'll be in heaven." I'm

  692. not talking about that. He wants a close

  693. fellowship with you right now.

  694. >> That's good.

  695. >> I mean, he he just he he just wants to

  696. talk with you.

  697. >> Yes,

  698. >> man. I I I I talked with mom and and and

  699. [snorts] mom is now 90 years old and and

  700. I was talking with her the other day and

  701. I said I said, "Mom," I said, "I really

  702. believe you're going to get to be a

  703. hundred."

  704. My dad always said he was going to live

  705. to be a hundred. And dad didn't make it.

  706. And and but he's in heaven now. He'll

  707. live for all eternity there. But uh but

  708. mom, I said, "Mom," I said, "I believe

  709. you're going to be hundred." She said,

  710. "I" she said, "You really think so?" I

  711. said, 'Yeah. She said, "I hope not." She

  712. said, "I don't want to get old."

  713. [laughter]

  714. And I got to laughing. I said, "You

  715. don't want to get old?" She said, "No, I

  716. don't want to get old." And I said,

  717. "Mom," I said, "What is it? What is it

  718. that you think has helped you to live

  719. all this time?" She said, "I don't

  720. know." She said, "God's just good to

  721. me."

  722. >> Amen.

  723. >> And every time I talk to her, she's

  724. talking about how good God's been.

  725. That's

  726. >> right.

  727. >> How good God's been. How good God's

  728. been. I I said, "Mom, you talk to God

  729. all the time, don't She said, "Oh,

  730. yeah." She said, "I talk to him in the

  731. morning. Talk to him all day." She said,

  732. "I don't do anything without talking to

  733. God." She said, she said, "We just talk

  734. all the time." She said, she said, "We

  735. just talk all the time." I was telling

  736. my wife, I don't think I've ever heard

  737. her grumble about anything.

  738. Everything she's thankful for. She will

  739. call me to tell me somebody held the

  740. door for her. She said, "You're not

  741. going to believe how good God is." She

  742. said, "I was walking in a grocery store

  743. and this little boy held the door for

  744. me. She's in Isn't God good?

  745. >> Amen.

  746. >> I mean, she just thanks God for

  747. everything. You know what that tells me?

  748. God wants us to talk to him.

  749. >> You're right.

  750. >> You say, "Well, that's little silly

  751. things." It might be, but I tell you one

  752. thing, I I wish I talked to God as much

  753. as she did.

  754. >> Amen.

  755. >> I mean, she just does it all the time.

  756. And God is inviting us to do the same.

  757. He invited the shepherds to come. Come.

  758. I want you I want you to come and see

  759. for yourself. And these humble men

  760. understood something that was so

  761. profound.

  762. If God made this known to them,

  763. if heaven sent angels to them,

  764. if the message was given to them,

  765. then a divine invitation

  766. had been extended. You're

  767. >> right.

  768. Revelation always comes with

  769. responsibility. You're

  770. >> right.

  771. >> So God has come to us and God has spoken

  772. to us. Are we going to do what he says?

  773. >> Come on.

  774. >> You say, "Well, well, I've already

  775. trusted Christ as my savior. I've

  776. already done what he says." Surely he's

  777. talked to you since then.

  778. >> Amen.

  779. >> I mean, surely he's talked to you since

  780. you got saved. Surely he has told you

  781. some things you ought to do in your

  782. life. Surely he's talked to you about

  783. how to spend your day today. Surely he

  784. has talked to you about uh uh when

  785. you're reading his word and and he

  786. begins to converse with you and begin to

  787. speak with you and begin to teach you

  788. things in the word of God. There's

  789. nothing any greater than hearing God

  790. speak.

  791. >> They ran because heaven had opened a

  792. door

  793. and they dared not ignore it. Let me

  794. give you the last point of the message.

  795. I believe they ran because of a humble

  796. redemption.

  797. A humble redemption. Look at verse 16.

  798. The Bible says, "And they found Mary and

  799. Joseph and the babe lying in a what?

  800. >> Manger.

  801. They weren't running to a palace,

  802. >> right?

  803. >> They were running to a manger.

  804. >> They weren't seeking a throne. They were

  805. seeking a feeding trough.

  806. >> Yes.

  807. >> And what they found was not what men

  808. would expect, but was precisely what God

  809. had promised.

  810. >> Right.

  811. >> Amen.

  812. >> They found the Christ in humility.

  813. >> Right.

  814. >> Jesus did not come clothed in royalty,

  815. but he came wrapped in rags.

  816. >> Yes.

  817. >> He did not come surrounded by servants,

  818. but surrounded by straw.

  819. He did not enter the world in grandeur,

  820. but he entered the world in grace.

  821. >> Right?

  822. >> And the shepherds ran because the savior

  823. of all had come low enough for anyone to

  824. reach.

  825. >> Amen.

  826. >> Doesn't matter who it is,

  827. >> right?

  828. >> Aren't you glad tonight

  829. that the gospel is for whosoever will?

  830. >> Yes.

  831. I've met some people that had done some

  832. pretty rough things.

  833. I've met some people that

  834. to be honest with you, I'm probably glad

  835. they are behind bars.

  836. But God came for them also.

  837. >> Right?

  838. >> You see, God came for them. No matter

  839. what they would do,

  840. God loves them.

  841. >> All right?

  842. I've seen some men's lives change so

  843. drastically

  844. that when they used to be in heavy metal

  845. bands and they used to be out here and

  846. doing all the things of the world and

  847. and they have done so many crimes that

  848. we can't even speak about it to now see

  849. them using their talents for the Lord

  850. Jesus Christ.

  851. >> Amen.

  852. >> Their lives have so changed.

  853. You say, "Well, what made the

  854. difference?"

  855. Jesus did.

  856. >> You're right.

  857. >> Jesus did. Uh the the programs is not

  858. making a difference.

  859. >> You're right.

  860. >> It I see programs of all kinds. They're

  861. not making a difference. What's making a

  862. difference is Jesus.

  863. >> Amen.

  864. >> Only Jesus can satisfy the soul.

  865. >> Yes. Only Jesus

  866. can take a drug addict.

  867. >> Yes.

  868. >> And make him into a brand new person.

  869. >> Right.

  870. >> Only Jesus can take a murderer.

  871. >> Come on.

  872. >> And wipe the slate clean.

  873. >> And give him a new life in Jesus Christ.

  874. >> Right.

  875. >> I had a inmate come to me one time and

  876. he said, you know, he said, "I'll never

  877. get out of here." I think he's on like

  878. three life sentences. He said, 'I'll

  879. never get out of here.' He said, ' But I

  880. know one thing. He said, 'I know I've

  881. been saved.

  882. >> And he said, even though I will never be

  883. able to live in a house on this earth,

  884. he said, when I move out of here, I'm

  885. moving into a mansion up there.

  886. >> Amen.

  887. >> Only Jesus can do that.

  888. >> You're right.

  889. >> Only Jesus can do that.

  890. And when Jesus came to those shepherds

  891. that night,

  892. he said, 'I want you to know something.

  893. I'm coming to where you are.

  894. >> I'm I'm I'm not I'm not here for the

  895. elite. Hey, I want the elite to come,

  896. but I'm going to the lowest of the low.

  897. >> Yes.

  898. >> So that you know, everyone is welcome.

  899. I want you to note

  900. that they found everything exactly as

  901. God said they would.

  902. >> Yes. The Bible says, "And they came with

  903. haste and found

  904. there." He was every detail exactly as

  905. heaven had declared.

  906. God's word is always accurate.

  907. >> Right?

  908. >> God's promises will never fail.

  909. >> Amen.

  910. >> And what God says, God will do.

  911. >> Yes.

  912. >> Their running was not wasted. Their

  913. faith was not disappointed.

  914. You see, when you run to Christ, you

  915. will always find him faithful. You're

  916. >> right.

  917. >> I wonder tonight if there's somebody

  918. here that just needs to run to Jesus.

  919. >> He says, "Come unto me all you that

  920. labor and are heavy laden, and I will

  921. give you rest."

  922. >> Amen.

  923. >> There's some tonight that might even

  924. need to run for salvation.

  925. You see, just because it's Wednesday

  926. night doesn't mean everybody in church

  927. has been saved. You're

  928. >> right.

  929. >> I've seen people get saved on Sunday

  930. night, Wednesday night. I've seen get

  931. people get saved on Thursday night and

  932. Friday night and Saturday night. The

  933. night doesn't make a difference,

  934. >> right?

  935. >> It's when God speaks.

  936. >> Yes.

  937. >> When God speaks.

  938. You see, they knew they needed to run to

  939. him. And when they found him, here's

  940. what they found.

  941. Now they need to run for him.

  942. >> Yes.

  943. >> You see, they found a savior worth

  944. sharing. Verse number 17 says, "And when

  945. they had seen it, they made known

  946. abroad. They let everybody know, hey,

  947. you know what happened? Guess what?

  948. Guess what we saw? They got the case of

  949. the can't help it. You're

  950. >> right.

  951. >> You know what the can't help it are? You

  952. just can't help but brag on the Lord.

  953. >> Amen.

  954. >> Hey, I I mean, God's just been so good.

  955. And God's been so wonderful. And I just

  956. can't help but tell somebody of the

  957. goodness of God. I can't help but tell

  958. somebody about how God blessed me. I

  959. can't help but tell somebody how God

  960. saved me. I can't help but tell somebody

  961. how God took care of me. I can't help

  962. but tell somebody how God SUPPLIED MY

  963. NEED. I'VE GOT TO TELL SOMEBODY HOW GOD

  964. took care of me. You just can't help it.

  965. You got to run for Jesus and tell

  966. somebody about him.

  967. >> Right?

  968. >> You see, why did they run to Bethlehem?

  969. I believe they ran to Bethlehem so they

  970. could run to the world.

  971. >> Good.

  972. >> The gospel ran into their hearts and

  973. they ran with it to others.

  974. A genuine encounter with Christ always

  975. leads to sharing the gospel with someone

  976. else.

  977. >> Right?

  978. >> Because those who find him cannot keep

  979. him to himself.

  980. >> He's just too big for that.

  981. >> Amen.

  982. >> God can't just stay right here. He's too

  983. big. He's going to come out some way

  984. somehow.

  985. >> He's going to come out.

  986. >> Right.

  987. >> So why did the shepherds run? They ran

  988. because God spoke.

  989. Is God speaking to you tonight?

  990. Is there something in your life that you

  991. need to run to God for?

  992. Or has it been too long since he has

  993. spoke and you need to run so you can

  994. hear his voice again?

  995. They ran because they must respond. When

  996. God speaks, it's time to move.

  997. >> Right?

  998. >> They be they ran because a savior had

  999. come.

1000. Today the same savior calls us to run

1001. from sin to the savior. Run from fear to

1002. faith. Run from doubt to devotion.

1003. Run from apathy to worship.

  1004. >> Good.

1005. >> Is there something God wants us to do

1006. tonight? Then let me ask you, don't you

1007. think it's time we quit just sitting

  1008. there hanging on

1009. >> and run to him?

  1010. >> Amen.

1011. and spend some time just talking with

1012. him. Let's stand for prayer tonight,

1013. shall we please? Every head bowed, every

1014. eye closed, no one looking around. And

1015. if there's someone that can play the

1016. piano, just a verse or two, that would

1017. be wonderful. Every head bowed, every

1018. eye closed. And during this time, if

1019. God's speaking to you, why don't you

1020. come? The altar's open. The altar's This

1021. is your time. Is God speaking to you?

1022. What is it he wants you to do?

1023. Is there someone he wants you to contact

1024. before the [music] actual Christmas day?

1025. Maybe there needs to be some boldness

1026. because we're going to be getting with

1027. some people over the Christmas holiday

1028. and we might need the grace of God to

1029. give us some boldness just to be able to

1030. share with them what God has done in our

  1031. life.

1032. Maybe we need to say, "God, help me to

  1033. run for you.

1034. Help me to go and tell people about you.

1035. Help me to go and share my faith. Lord,

1036. help me not to be fearful, but help me

  1037. by boldness

1038. be willing to share you with others.

1039. The altar is open tonight. If you need

1040. to come, please do so.

1041. Just as the angels appeared to [music]

  1042. the shepherds

1043. and those shepherds ran, they ran to see

  1044. the Christ.

1045. So should you and I

1046. run to be with the Lord.

1047. Run to spend [music] time with him.

1048. Run to talk with him. Run to listen to

  1049. him.

1050. and then after that run for him

1051. and make known abroad all the things

1052. that God has done in your life.

1053. God has been so good.

1054. He has blessed my wife and I.

1055. We were praying for 500 to be saved. We

  1056. saw over 700.

1057. We were praying for around 500 to enroll

1058. in the Bible institute. [music] We saw

  1059. that happen.

1060. We were praying for a family to come and

1061. join us and help us in California. God

  1062. answered that prayer.

1063. We were praying to be able to open an

1064. office in California for Rock of Ages,

1065. and God's helped us to be able to do

  1066. that.

1067. God's been good to us, but he's not done

1068. yet. So, this coming year, we're praying

1069. again. God, we want to see more saved

1070. this year than we did last year.

1071. Lord, this past year, we prayed for 500

1072. saved. Why don't we pray this year we

1073. see over a thousand say

1074. we need to pray that they're going to

1075. enroll in the Bible institute and and

1076. how about over five let's go for 600 in

1077. the Bible institute we we're praying

1078. that God would help us be able to get

1079. into the new office and to advance and

1080. we're praying that God would help us to

1081. get a work going in Canada. We're

1082. praying that God would send us another

1083. family to California. We're praying for

1084. more volunteers. We're praying for

1085. missionaries to rise up in Washington

1086. State and Utah and uh Wyoming and other

  1087. parts of the world.

  1088. God can do that

1089. because the same God that [music] sent

1090. his glory to the shepherds

1091. is the same God that's on the throne

  1092. tonight.

  1093. And there's nothing

1094. my God cannot do. That's

  1095. >> right.

1096. >> Father, we love you tonight. Thank you

1097. so much for each and everyone that's

1098. here. Lord, be with the pastor as he's

1099. there helping Dr. Ellis and those at the

1100. home office. And Father, I pray that you

1101. will help us, Lord, as we go back to

1102. California here in a few weeks and then

1103. be able to branch out into other states.

1104. I pray, Lord, that you'll watch over us

1105. and help us to see many, many come to

1106. know you as savior. Not a jailhouse

1107. religion, but true salvation in Christ.

1108. And then, Father, may we see a work

1109. started in Canada. May we see the office

1110. expanded. May we see more enrolled in

1111. the Bible institute. May we start

1112. getting into schools in the West Coast.

1113. And God, our heart's desire is that

1114. through it all, we'll be found faithful.

1115. >> Thank you for this church. They've been

1116. so good to us. And Lord, I pray you'll

1117. bless them. be with their pastor, guide

1118. him, and Lord, I pray give them a

1119. wonderful, wonderful new year. For it's

1120. [music] in Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
