  10. Well, I appreciate that this singing

  11. this morning. If you have a Bible, I

  12. want you invite you to turn with me uh

  13. to the Gospel of Matthew if you would

  14. please. Gospel of Matthew, chapter

  15. number two. You find your place you

  16. would stand on reference to the reading

  17. of God's word. Matthew's Gospel chapter

  18. number two.

  19. Matthew's Gospel chapter number two. I

  20. want to begin reading verse number one.

  21. Matthew chapter number two verse number

  22. one. The Bible says, "Now when Jesus was

  23. born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days

  24. of Herod the king, behold, there came

  25. wise men from the east to Jerusalem,

  26. saying, Where is he that is born king of

  27. the Jews? For we have seen his star in

  28. the east, and are come to worship him."

  29. When Herod the king had heard these

  30. things, he was troubled, and all

  31. Jerusalem with him. When he had gathered

  32. all the chief priests and scribes of the

  33. people together, he demanded of them

  34. where Christ should be born. And they

  35. said unto him, "In Bethlehem of Judea,

  36. for thus it is written by the prophet,

  37. and thou Bethlehem, in the land of

  38. Judah, art not the least among the

  39. princes of Judah, for out of these shall

  40. come a governor that shall rule my

  41. people Israel." Then Herod, when he had

  42. privy called the wise men, he inquired

  43. of them diligently what time the star

  44. appeared. And he sent them to Bethlehem,

  45. and said, "Go and search diligently for

  46. the young child. and when you have found

  47. him, bring me word again that I may come

  48. and worship him also." When they had

  49. heard the king, they departed, and lo,

  50. the star which they saw in the east went

  51. before them, till it came and stood over

  52. where the young child was. When they saw

  53. the star, they rejoiced with exceeding

  54. great joy. And when they were come into

  55. the house, they saw the young child with

  56. Mary's mother, and fell down and

  57. worshiped him. When they had opened

  58. their treasures, they presented unto him

  59. gifts, gold, and frankincense and myrr.

  60. Being warned of God in a dream that they

  61. should not return to Herod, they

  62. departed into their own country another

  63. way. When they were departed, behold,

  64. the angel of the Lord appearth to Joseph

  65. in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the

  66. young child and his mother, and flee

  67. into Egypt, and be thou there until I

  68. bring thee word. For Herod will seek the

  69. young child to destroy him. When he

  70. arose, he took the young child and his

  71. mother by night, and departed into

  72. Egypt, and was there until the death of

  73. Herod, that it might be fulfilled, which

  74. was spoken of the Lord by the prophet,

  75. saying, "Out of Egypt have I called my

  76. son." Then Herod, when he saw that he

  77. was mocked to the wise men, was

  78. exceeding wroth, and sent forth and slew

  79. all the children that were in Bethlehem,

  80. and all the coast thereof from two years

  81. old and under, according to the time

  82. which he had diligently inquired of the

  83. wise men. Now, Father, I ask you humbly

  84. this morning. God, as we come before

  85. you, Father, I desperately need your

  86. help this morning as we come to the

  87. preaching hour. And God, I pray, Father,

  88. Lord, I know that we've come in in this

  89. theme of Christmas, Lord, much on our

  90. mind, on our heart today. And Lord, I

  91. pray, Father, we would look beyond

  92. Christmas trees and lights this morning.

  93. and and Lord, the angels singing, God,

  94. but that we would look beyond to see you

  95. this morning, Lord, for that's what

  96. these wise men desired to see. And God,

  97. I pray, Father, this morning, you'd help

  98. us all, Lord, to just see you this

  99. morning high and lifted up. And God, I

  100. know you came as a baby in a manger, but

  101. Lord, you didn't stay there. And God, I

  102. thank you for that. And Lord, I pray,

  103. Father, this morning, if there's

  104. somebody in this place lost and undone

  105. without you, I pray today be the day of

  106. salvation for them. God, I pray if

  107. there's one out of the will of God, I

  108. pray today, Father, you'd drawn back to

  109. yourself. And God, I pray, Father, more

  110. than anything, you'd get glory and honor

  111. out of this service today. Lord, we lift

  112. your name up. We exalt you. Thank you,

  113. Father, for all that you've done, all

  114. that you're going to do. But Lord, thank

  115. you most of all for who you are. And

  116. Lord, we ask you in Jesus name. Amen.

  117. Thank you for standing. You can be

  118. seated this morning.

  119. And uh I want to look here in this text.

  120. Consider

  121. this account, this story this morning.

  122. And I mentioned this on last week, I

  123. believe it was, that I really love

  124. Matthew's gospel. I love Matthew's

  125. gospel, the way it was written. I love

  126. what he's written about here. And and I

  127. think it's something to me about the

  128. portrayal of Christ as king. Because

  129. from the beginning to the very last

  130. chapter of Matthew's gospel, that is the

  131. subject matter that's at hand. they he

  132. is portraying or painting the picture of

  133. Christ as king and everything that he

  134. says has that purpose. Now we know that

  135. all scripture a man portrays him as the

  136. Messiah and as king. But when you

  137. consider the gospels, Matthew's gospel

  138. is really laid out in such a way that

  139. view that is to vindicate Christ as the

  140. Messiah to the Jew. He is pointing out

  141. all the prophecies that are fulfilled.

  142. He is pointing out the power of his

  143. birth, the power of his life, his death

  144. and resurrection, and showing them,

  145. vindicating unto them, hey, that this

  146. man really is the Messiah that David and

  147. all the men of the Old Testament spoke

  148. about. And when I consider this chapter,

  149. I want to give you some thoughts here.

  150. And I'll give you the the idea that the

  151. Lord's put on my heart, the thought of

  152. the message this morning. When I look at

  153. this chapter, there's some things that

  154. interest me. Number one, I would say

  155. that the theme here is verse number one.

  156. that first phrase now when Jesus was

  157. born and so I would say the theme when

  158. you consider this passage is the birth

  159. of Jesus that that is the subject matter

  160. that is that is being encompassed here

  161. in this text he is giving us the events

  162. here surrounding that and so there is

  163. the Lord in verse number one and then

  164. there is the land in verse number one

  165. there's the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem

  166. of Judea is mentioned in verse number

  167. one this has to do with the house of

  168. bread that Bethlehem that prophesied

  169. place where our Lord would come and be

  170. born of the Virgin Mary there in our

  171. text. And so Bethlehem, this land plays

  172. a special part. But I note also here in

  173. this text, not only Jesus and Bethlehem,

  174. but I consider the brokenness here

  175. that's in this text. And you say, "What

  176. do you mean, preacher?" Well, it's

  177. really summed up by one phrase in verse

  178. number one. The Bible says, "Now when

  179. Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea,

  180. notice this, in the days of Herod the

  181. king." Now you say, "Preacher, what does

  182. that describe brokenness?" Well, this

  183. describes the degradation of the house

  184. of Israel to this point. Now, it's been

  185. almost a thousand years since the days

  186. of day, probably a little over that. I

  187. don't have the exact time on my hand,

  188. but I can say this, it's been many

  189. years. And what's happened here is Herod

  190. is an Edomite. You say, "What do you

  191. mean an Edomite?" Well, were

  192. the direct descendants of Esau. We know

  193. that Jacob and Esau, Jacob was that

  194. chosen one of God that was ordained to

  195. bear the seed. He was the one that David

  196. would come through. And he was the line

  197. that Jesus would come through. And isn't

  198. it interesting that Herod, that seed of

  199. Esau, he's believed to be an Edomite.

  200. The seed of Esau is now reigning on the

  201. throne in Jerusalem. And that prophecy

  202. that was given in numbers, I believe it

  203. is or actually Genesis. Genesis spoke of

  204. Judah, that the scepter would not depart

  205. from Judah until Shiloh comes, speaking

  206. of Christ. And so, no doubt here in this

  207. text, the scepter has departed for an

  208. Edomite, the arch enemies of Israel, is

  209. reigning on the throne over Jerusalem.

  210. And so, Jerusalem is broken in this

  211. text. But I consider also this in verse

  212. number one. Not only Jesus the birth and

  213. Bethlehem, the brokenness of Jerusalem.

  214. But I also consider this band, this band

  215. of men journeying. In verse number one,

  216. the Bible says, "Behold, there came wise

  217. men from the east to Jerusalem." Now,

  218. what's interesting to me about this, and

  219. this may not be interesting to you, but

  220. I it is to me. I I find three

  221. ethnicities of people in verse number

  222. one. you you'll find Herod that's

  223. mentioned of the those that

  224. were wicked, the outsiders who had

  225. infiltrated the land of Israel. And then

  226. there's Jesus, of course, Joseph being

  227. his earthly guardian, he was the one

  228. that was rightful to reign on the throne

  229. of his father David, him and Mary and be

  230. Mary being in the lineage of the king's

  231. seed. And so there is Jacob's children

  232. and there's Esau's children, the

  233. Israelites and the And then

  234. this other crowd shows up in verse

  235. number one. These wise men of the east.

  236. Now what does that

  237. one

  238. the

  239. east of Jerusalem and the

  240. Jerusalem

  241. here in the text of

  242. all the together in one place? What is

  243. happening is this one all of them

  244. together.

  245. The truth is this Christmas season

  246. brings together who otherwise would

  247. together. And when I look at this text

  248. really you could consider

  249. this as a people and and say a lot about

  250. mourn and Jesus is the center point.

  251. Amen. There was some that wanted him and

  252. there was some that didn't. Amen. And

  253. let me say this to you this morning this

  254. holiday season. If I could offer

  255. anything to you as a word of advice, let

  256. you be the one that shines Jesus to

  257. those that want him and to those that

  258. don't want him. Amen. And I notice in

  259. this text, I've said all of that to say

  260. this. Considering these wise men that on

  261. their journey in verse number two, look

  262. what your Bible says. They came from the

  263. east of Jerusalem, saying, "Where is he

  264. that is born king of the Jews? For we

  265. have seen his star in the east and are

  266. come to worship him." And I want to

  267. preach on this thought for just a little

  268. while this morning with the help of the

  269. Lord on wise men still seek him. Amen.

  270. Wise men still seek him. Now, I know

  271. that's an old phrase, probably a little

  272. bit of a cliche, but the truth is it's

  273. right. Amen. If you are going to be

  274. wise, amen, you will be found seeking

  275. him, serving him, and staying with him.

  276. Amen. It's just like Jesus told Martha

  277. when Mary came to sit at his feet. She's

  278. chosen that good part which shall not be

  279. taken away from her. And we all ought to

  280. desire to see him and serve him and stay

  281. with him. Amen. This morning, and so I

  282. want to consider some thoughts here.

  283. Notice this in our text. Number one,

  284. their declaration in verse two, the

  285. Bible says they're saying, "Where is he

  286. that is born king of the Jews?" Now,

  287. number one, you would say this

  288. declaration revealed a location that

  289. they desired. They said, "Where is he?"

  290. Now, we know Jesus here has been born

  291. according to verse number one, when

  292. Jesus was born. And so, the fact is

  293. given of that. But in verse number two,

  294. they have come looking for him, desiring

  295. a location. They're desiring this lad in

  296. verse number two. Where is he that is

  297. born, recently born, this young child?

  298. And they're not only desiring the

  299. location of this lad, but they're

  300. desiring the location of their Lord.

  301. Amen. Look what he says. Where is he

  302. that is born king of the Jews. Amen.

  303. Hey, these boys had something those in

  304. Jerusalem did not have. And let me just

  305. say this to you this morning. Just

  306. because somebody names the name or is in

  307. a place does not mean that they know

  308. Jesus. Amen. Just because you're in the

  309. house of God this morning does not mean

  310. that you know Jesus. Amen. And in this

  311. text, they come to the place where Jesus

  312. should have been well known. But isn't

  313. it interesting? Nobody seemed to know

  314. where he was at. But them boys that had

  315. traveled a long way. They had made it on

  316. this far led by a star to find Jesus.

  317. And so their declaration was of the fact

  318. they knew that he who he was, but they

  319. just wanted to be where he was at. Amen.

  320. I'm telling you this morning, I'm glad I

  321. know who he is. Amen. But just like

  322. those wise men, I just want to be where

  323. he's at. Amen. Hallelujah. Bless his

  324. name. Amen. What I'm saying this morning

  325. is that they wanted to see Jesus. Amen.

  326. >> And so their declaration declares that

  327. they desired to find the Lord. Amen. Now

  328. notice not only their declaration, but

  329. notice their discernment in verse two.

  330. Where is he that is born king of the

  331. Jews? For we have seen his star in the

  332. east. Now I know this morning these magi

  333. are often recorded as in history as

  334. being three men. They're often recorded

  335. as being soothsayers and and there some

  336. say that they were kings. Some say that

  337. they were uh soothsayers, magi,

  338. magicians, whatever you want to call it.

  339. But I will say this, God had told them

  340. where this boy was at.

  341. >> Amen. And they've come this far and they

  342. had discernment enough to know that that

  343. star was different than every other star

  344. that they had seen. It was his star.

  345. Amen. You say, "Preacher, how do you

  346. know that they was right about it?"

  347. Well, they come to town and what did

  348. they find? That yes, there was a king

  349. born. Amen. And so, they obviously had

  350. some discernment. What was their

  351. discernment about? Well, they discerned

  352. his person. Notice it in verse number

  353. two. For we have seen what? His star.

  354. Amen. Hey, they recognized that it

  355. wasn't just anybody. Amen. But it was

  356. the Messiah. Amen. It was Jesus. They

  357. discerned his person. But I would say

  358. this, they'd also discerned his

  359. prophecy. The fact of the matter is this

  360. star was a representation that the

  361. Messiah would come. It was prophesied

  362. that this star would appear and and Old

  363. Testament prophecy it was given that

  364. this star would show up. Numbers 24 and

  365. verse number 17 and Isaiah chapter 60

    Isaiah 60 chapter mention

  366. and verse number three. His star would

  367. show up. And so they were discerning his

  368. person and discerning his prophecy. But

  369. isn't it interesting? They also

  370. discerned his place. You're

  371. >> right. Where'd they come to? They come

  372. to Jerusalem. Amen.

  373. >> Because the king of the Jews would be

  374. born. Amen. In Jerusalem. Amen.

  375. >> You say, "Preacher, what's all that got

  376. to do with anything?"

  377. >> Well, these boys is heading the right

  378. direction, aren't they?

  379. >> Amen. Let me ask you something. What

  380. direction are you headed in?

  381. >> Amen. You say, "Preacher, well, I'm at

  382. the house of God." Well, that's step

  383. one. Amen.

  384. >> Amen.

  385. >> Amen. Step two is where's your desire

  386. at? Amen. Yes.

  387. >> I notice in this text, not only their

  388. declaration and their discernment, the

  389. teaching of past truth led them to this

  390. place. And at this time, and I'll say

  391. this, many have said, speculated that it

  392. could have been possible these men were

  393. descendants of those magi that Daniel

  394. taught in the book of Daniel. those

  395. those 120 princes that were under him,

  396. those magi, those uh those uh magicians

  397. that were under Daniel in the book, they

  398. said that it could been possible that

  399. Daniel taught them the prophecies of the

  400. Messiah, and they've passed it down from

  401. generation to generation to this point

  402. in time, and now they have received this

  403. and come under there. I don't know about

  404. all that, but I do know this. God

  405. brought them there. Amen. And God's

  406. brought them to this place. And so, we

  407. consider their declaration and their

  408. discernment. But notice their desire in

  409. verse two. We have seen his star in the

  410. east. Notice this. And are come to

  411. worship him.

  412. >> Amen.

  413. >> Come to worship him. Now, I'll say this

  414. this morning. They didn't come out of

  415. obligation.

  416. >> Amen.

  417. >> They didn't come with any ulterior

  418. motive.

  419. >> Yes.

  420. >> But they came in adoration of the Lord

  421. Jesus Christ, the one that they'd never

  422. seen.

  423. >> Amen.

  424. >> But they loved. The one they'd never

  425. laid their eyes upon, but they knew he

  426. was real.

  427. >> Yes.

  428. >> Don't that sound like somebody else?

  429. Amen.

  430. >> Hey, I ain't never seen him.

  431. >> Amen. I've never laid my eyes on him

  432. physically, but boy, I'm glad. Amen. For

  433. the leadership. Amen. Somewhere.

  434. Hallelujah. Somewhere up in the skies.

  435. Amen. THEY SAW THAT STAR. WELL, I TELL

  436. YOU WHAT, there's been a star leading

  437. me. Amen. But he's not in the sky. He's

  438. in my soul. Amen. The spirit of God been

  439. leading me. AND ONE OF THESE DAYS I'LL

  440. GET to the land where Jesus is AND BE IN

  441. THE PLACE AND see in THE PERSON AND FEEL

  442. THE PRESENCE RIGHT THERE WHERE HE IS

  443. BECAUSE MY DESIRE IS TO WORSHIP HIM.

  444. AMEN. HALLELUJAH. I noticed their

  445. desire. It was a passionate desire.

  446. These men traveled thousands of miles to

  447. see Jesus. Their passion was not without

  448. purpose. They'd come to worship him. And

  449. I notice also not only there the purpose

  450. but it was praise for who he is. We are

  451. come to worship him. You see when they

  452. came to Jesus Jesus had done nothing

  453. >> as of yet to deserve their praise. He

  454. was just a baby in a manger.

  455. >> But you see they wasn't praising what he

  456. had done.

  457. >> Amen. They were just praising who he

  458. was. Amen. Hey, they knew who he was and

  459. before he'd ever done anything.

  460. Hallelujah. They were JUST GOING TO

  461. PRAISE him for who he was. Amen. HEY,

  462. YOU KNOW THAT'S WHY WE'RE HERE THIS

  463. MORNING. WE'RE NOT HERE TO PRAISE HIM

  464. JUST FOR WHAT HE'S DONE. AND HASN'T HE

  465. DONE SO MUCH FOR US? AMEN. HE DAILY

  466. LOADTH US WITH BENEFITS. AMEN. MY CUP

  467. RUNTH OVER THIS MORNING. GOODNESS AND

  468. MERCY BEEN FOLLOWING ME all the days of

  469. my life. Amen. HE'S BEEN BETTER THAN

  470. GOOD TO ME. OH, BUT HE'S WORTHY OF MY

  471. PRAISE. NOT BECAUSE OF WHAT HE DOES, BUT

  472. I'LL SAY THIS. HE'S WORTHY OF MY PRAISE

  473. BECAUSE OF WHO HE IS. AMEN. and that

  474. alone this morning. And I notice what

  475. brought them to this place.

  476. You see in this text, Herod has become

  477. along with all Israel. Verse three, when

  478. Herod the king had heard these things,

  479. he was troubled. And not only Herod, but

  480. all Jerusalem was troubled. Notice that

  481. in verse three, that reveals the

  482. spiritual climate of the day in which

  483. they were living in. Let me just say

  484. this to you this morning. There was a

  485. day in this country when preachers

  486. preached that the Lord was coming back

  487. that people were troubled. All

  488. >> right.

  489. >> Amen.

  490. >> But I submit to you, we've come to this

  491. day in America and our country and it

  492. seems as people are not troubled

  493. anymore.

  494. >> Right?

  495. >> You know what? When Jesus got to the

  496. cross, he was getting near the end. They

  497. weren't nobody scared about his death,

  498. was they? His disciples had left him

  499. behind. They weren't nobody scared. But

  500. when he came at first, you know what?

  501. They were real troubled. We're getting

  502. close to the end of this thing, folks.

  503. >> Amen. What I'm saying is they are

  504. troubled. Why? Because of their sinful

  505. state. The lack of spirituality among

  506. Jerusalem has caused them to be fearful.

  507. Why? Because the king is coming. And

  508. they know that when the king comes,

  509. judgment begins where? At the house of

  510. God. That's

  511. >> right.

  512. >> Jerusalem there. It would begin there.

  513. And of course, we know that Herod was a

  514. wicked man. And I ain't going to preach

  515. all of that this morning, but I I want

  516. to give you some truths concerning these

  517. wise men. See, what is it that brought

  518. them to this place?

  519. Well, I would say four things this

  520. morning concerning this text that

  521. brought them to Jesus in our text.

  522. Number one, I would say first of all,

  523. it's the light of the star that brought

  524. them to Jesus. In verse number two, they

  525. said, "Where is he that's born king of

  526. the Jews? for we have seen his star in

  527. the east. You see these men, wherever

  528. country they were from, they were living

  529. their life watching.

  530. They were living their life waiting. And

  531. they were living their life willing. And

  532. I'll say more about that in just a

  533. minute. But you see, the light of this

  534. star caused them to take a journey. And

  535. it was the light of this star that led

  536. them to Jerusalem. Why was it? Because

  537. this star's light was specific. Let me

  538. say this to you this morning. The light

  539. of that star is still specific.

  540. >> Amen.

  541. >> Amen. You come to this book and you come

  542. to the house of bread. Amen. Just like

  543. these boys did. Amen. You're going to

  544. get the same Jesus.

  545. >> Amen. That every generation has got down

  546. through the ages. This blessed Bible.

  547. It's a specific light. Amen.

  548. >> And this star, it showed them the place

  549. where Jesus would lay. And so they take

  550. this journey because of the light of

  551. this star. But it also didn't cause it

  552. only cause them to take a journey, but

  553. it brought them joining. In verse number

  554. nine, look what the Bible says. When

  555. they had heard the king, they departed.

  556. And lo, the star which they saw in the

  557. east went before them. Notice this, till

  558. it came and stood over where the young

  559. child was. You see, this star brought

  560. them to Jerusalem. And there upon the

  561. streets of Jerusalem, the Bible

  562. literally says there in the text that

  563. they ask, "Where is he that's born king

  564. of the Jews?" And that word saying there

  565. in verse two means that they were

  566. literally asking everybody that they

  567. came across. They were walking around

  568. every individual. They didn't go to

  569. Herod's palace, but they were walking

  570. around through the streets of Jerusalem.

  571. Hey, where is he? Where's the Messiah?

  572. Where's the king at? We've heard that

  573. he's been born. Where is he at? And you

  574. know what? The stars brought them to

  575. Jerusalem. And when they realized that

  576. nobody knew where he was at, isn't that

  577. interesting? They come down to the house

  578. of God and nobody knew where Jesus was

  579. at. Amen. You want to know what that is?

  580. That's a description of the church in

  581. the last days. AMEN. SINNERS WALK INTO

  582. the average church all across THIS

  583. COUNTRY AND NOBODY CAN FIND JESUS.

  584. NOBODY KNOWS WHERE JESUS IS. We've got

  585. transvestites in the pull pit AND

  586. HOMOSEXUALS IN THE IN THE CONGREGATION

  587. AND NOBODY KNOWS WHERE JESUS IS. WHY?

  588. BECAUSE HE LEFT A LONG TIME AGO. AMEN.

  589. >> Don't know how I got off on all that,

  590. but the truth is, Amen. That's the way

  591. it is,

  592. >> right?

  593. >> Well, I'm thankful. Amen. And we know

  594. where he is.

  595. >> And the star didn't only lead them to

  596. the house of God in Jerusalem, but it

  597. led them to the house of bread.

  598. >> Amen.

  599. >> In Bethlehem after that they had

  600. departed from the king. The star

  601. reappeared and it led them directly. The

  602. Bible says that it went before them.

  603. Literally almost saying that it walked

  604. with them. Amen. You say, "Preacher,

  605. what's that talking about?" Well, I'll

  606. say this. It's talking about really

  607. types the spirit of God. Amen. He will

  608. lead you to the place where you can get

  609. some bread. Amen. And so he brings them

  610. down to Bethlehem, but not only to

  611. Bethlehem, but he brings them to the

  612. very house. In verse number 10, when

  613. they saw the star, they rejoiced with

  614. exceeding great joy. And in verse 11,

  615. and when they were come into the house,

  616. >> Amen.

  617. >> That star, it didn't just lead him to

  618. Jerusalem. It didn't only just lead him

  619. to Bethlehem, but it took him to the

  620. exact spot.

  621. >> Amen.

  622. >> Where Jesus was.

  623. >> Right?

  624. >> You say, "Preacher, what do you mean?"

  625. It brought joining.

  626. >> Amen. The light of that star still

  627. brings joining.

  628. >> Amen.

  629. >> The spirit of God, the preaching of the

  630. word of God will bring you into a

  631. journey. It'll bring joining. But I'll

  632. say this, it'll bring joy. Look what the

  633. Bible said in verse 10. When they saw

  634. the star, they rejoiced with exceeding

  635. great joy. You see, it was the light of

  636. that star that caused them to take the

  637. journey.

  638. >> Right?

  639. >> But it was also the light of that star

  640. that when they got to their destination,

  641. you know what happened? They rejoiced.

  642. >> Amen.

  643. >> Amen. Y'all don't have to read between

  644. the lines too much on that. Amen.

  645. >> You know what? It's the light of the

  646. star. It's going to lead us all through

  647. this life. You're

  648. >> right.

  649. >> Amen. And we get to where he's at. It's

  650. that light.

  651. >> Amen.

  652. >> That same light that showed us we was

  653. lost and started us on our journey.

  654. Amen. When we get home, you know what

  655. we're going to do? We're going to

  656. rejoice because that same light that

  657. started with us is the same light that

  658. stayed with us. And it's the same light

  659. that'll STILL BE SHINING FOR US WHEN WE

  660. GET TO THE END OF THIS THING. AMEN.

  661. >> I consider the light of the star, but

  662. you also notice there was all there was

  663. something else they had to hear before

  664. they could experience this joy from the

  665. star. Notice not only the light of the

  666. star, but consider second of all the

  667. leading of the scriptures. You see in

  668. our text, Herod, they've come to Herod.

  669. They've they've asked the question.

  670. Somehow or another, it's gotten around

  671. to Herod, but Herod calls them to

  672. himself in verse number seven. But they

  673. he's gathered all the chief priests and

  674. scribes together. In verse four, they he

  675. asked of him where Christ should be

  676. born. And they tell him in verse number

  677. five, they give him that location, the

  678. place Bethlehem of Judea. In verse

  679. number five, they tell him of the

  680. prophet. He says, "For thus it is

  681. written by the prophet." Micah chapter 5

    Micah 5 chapter mention

  682. and verse number two gives this

  683. prophecy. And then there's the prophecy

  684. that he tells them of. Verse six. And

  685. thou Bethlehem in the land of Judah, art

  686. not the least among the princes of

  687. Judah. For out of thee shall come a

  688. governor that shall rule my people

  689. Israel. And it was the leading of the

  690. scriptures that caused them to continue.

  691. You say, "Preacher, how is this?" Well,

  692. let me just give this to you for a

  693. second here. You see, these wise men

  694. didn't have this on hand,

  695. >> right?

  696. >> But these chief priests and scribes did.

  697. >> And so, you know what? God took that

  698. wicked king Herod. They followed that

  699. star all the way to Jerusalem. Herod's

  700. got wind of it and out of fear, he goes

  701. to the chief priest and he inquires of

  702. the word of God and they tell him, "All

  703. right, this is where he's going to be

  704. born." And then Herod goes back to him

  705. in verse number seven. Then Herod, when

  706. he had prevently called the wise men,

  707. inquired of them diligently what time

  708. the star appeared. And notice verse

  709. number eight, and he sent them to

  710. Bethlehem. Now, isn't that interesting?

  711. These boys got to Jerusalem and say,

  712. "Well, we're looking for him. We don't

  713. know where he's at." But God uses the

  714. one that was going to try to kill him.

  715. >> That's right.

  716. >> To send these men to his very house.

  717. >> Yeah.

  718. >> And God can take the word of God

  719. >> through any means by which he desires

  720. to.

  721. >> Right.

  722. >> God spoke to Moses through a burning

  723. bush,

  724. >> to Balum through that donkey. God can

  725. speak to you and I through just about

  726. anything,

  727. >> right? But it's his word that will lead

  728. us to where Jesus is. Amen. I'll say

  729. this this morning. I the leading of the

  730. scriptures, it calls them to continue to

  731. see the light of the star. You see, if

  732. they had never heard this scripture,

  733. they would have never continued. Let me

  734. tell you this. The light of the star in

  735. this life, it'll get you along down

  736. life's road. But you know what? There's

  737. going to be days when you going to have

  738. to have the scripture.

  739. >> You're right.

  740. >> Cuz you know what? There's days of

  741. darkness.

  742. >> You're right. There's days where the

  743. light don't seem to shine. I know this

  744. is super simple this morning. This just

  745. what God put on the heart.

  746. >> There's days where it's dark and the

  747. light doesn't shine. I'll tell you this.

  748. You need something that'll shine in the

  749. darkness. Amen. Peter said we have a

  750. more assured word of prophecy. Said that

  751. you do well that you take heed as a

  752. light that shineth into a dark place

  753. >> for the darkness of life. When the star

  754. quit shining, there is the scripture

  755. that would lead them. But I'm thankful

  756. after they were faithful to obey the

  757. scriptures. You know what? The star kept

  758. shining.

  759. >> Right?

  760. >> Amen. Notice verse number nine. And when

  761. they had depart, when they heard the

  762. king, they departed and lo the star

  763. which they saw in the east went before

  764. them. So they obeyed the scripture and

  765. the star reappeared. And you say,

  766. "Preacher, what does all this have to do

  767. with anything? What is it special about

  768. them seeking Jesus?" Well, they sought

  769. him because of the light of this star.

  770. And they sought him because of the

  771. leading of the scriptures. But I'll tell

  772. you why they sought him. They sought him

  773. because they loved him.

  774. >> Amen.

  775. >> Amen. Notice the text, verse number 10,

  776. 11, and 12. When they saw the star, they

  777. rejoiced with exceeding great joy. Hey,

  778. they weren't rejoicing just because of

  779. that star shining. They were rejoicing

  780. because of what that star's light was

  781. shining on. Amen. They know that THAT

  782. STAR WAS HIS STAR. And wherever it was,

  783. he was going to be. Oh, friend, hear me

  784. this morning. When the star shines, you

  785. just know it ain't about the light of

  786. the star, but it's about the Lord WHO

  787. THAT STAR'S SHINING ON. AMEN. HEY,

  788. that's what we DO EVERY TIME WE TRY TO

  789. PREACH THE WORD OF GOD AS WE TRY TO

  790. SHINE THE LIGHT ON JESUS CHRIST SO YOU

  791. CAN SEE HIM. GOD, HELP US TO HIDE BEHIND

  792. THE CROSS IN THESE DAYS SO THAT A LOST

  793. AND DYING WORLD COULD SEE HIM WHO'S

  794. invisible and be saved. Amen.

  795. >> They desired to see him because they

  796. loved him. They praised him in verse 11.

  797. They fell down and worshiped him. They

  798. presented him gifts, gold, frankincense,

  799. and myrr. They also not only presented

  800. him gifts, but they protected him. You

  801. say, "How did they protect him,

  802. preacher?" In verse 12, they were warned

  803. of God in a dream that they should not

  804. return to Herod. The Bible says they

  805. departed into their own country another

  806. way. Just another time. It shows that

  807. they loved him.

  808. >> Right?

  809. >> You see, they could have feared the

  810. king's commandment and went and told him

  811. where he was at.

  812. >> But you know what? Their love for Jesus

  813. was greater.

  814. >> Amen.

  815. >> You say, "What do you mean, preacher?"

  816. Well, I'm saying they sought him because

  817. they loved him.

  818. Let me ask you this morning. Do you love

  819. him?

  820. >> Amen.

  821. >> Do you love him?

  822. >> You say, "Preacher, what does all this

  823. mean?" Well, I'll say this. It really

  824. comes down to this. You know the reason

  825. why they saw him? They saw him because

  826. the light showed them the way. They saw

  827. him because the leading of the

  828. scriptures filled in the gaps or they

  829. didn't understand. They they they saw

  830. him because they loved him. And I'll say

  831. this, and this is so practical and so

  832. simple, it almost makes me sick, but

  833. it's the truth. You know why they saw

  834. him? because they were looking for him.

  835. >> You're right.

  836. >> Come on.

  837. >> And thus the title, wise men still seek

  838. him.

  839. >> You know what? If you're seeking him,

  840. you going to be looking.

  841. >> You're right.

  842. >> Amen. I feel like the church in this day

  843. and time is walking around with their

  844. eyes closed.

  845. >> You're right.

  846. >> Amen. We just We see everything that's

  847. wrong. We see everything that's bad. We

  848. see everything that's not right and

  849. messed up. Amen. And misfits. LET ME ASK

  850. YOU, WHEN'S THE LAST TIME YOU SAW

  851. SOMETHING that was right?

  852. >> Amen.

  853. >> Let me say this to you. There's a lot

  854. more that's right with the church than

  855. there is that's wrong. Somebody say,

  856. "Amen." HEY, I'M TALKING ABOUT WE STILL

  857. GOT A KING JAMES BIBLE. WE'RE STILL

  858. PREACHING THE GOSPEL. WE'RE STILL

  859. SINGING THE OLD SONGS AND TRYING OUR

  860. BEST TO LIVE A HOLY LIFE AND WALK WITH

  861. GOD. I'M SAYING THERE'S A LOT LESS WRONG

  862. THAN THERE IS RIGHT. AMEN. GOD HAS BEEN

  863. GOOD to us. Amen.

  864. >> And what does this text tell us? They

  865. were looking. Notice verse two. Where

  866. did it all begin? Verse two. Where is he

  867. that is born king of the Jews? For we

  868. have seen.

  869. We have seen. You know the reason why

  870. you don't see Jesus is because you're

  871. not looking.

  872. >> Right.

  873. >> You're not looking. You see, they were

  874. watching. You say, "Preacher, how is

  875. it?" Well, let me ask you this. Herod

  876. and all Israel couldn't find him.

  877. >> Yeah, you're right.

  878. Israel didn't know where he was. They

  879. didn't come to his birth and crown him

  880. king. The only ones that came were the

  881. shepherds, amen, at his birth. And then

  882. some two years later, these wise men

  883. show up and they've come here to give

  884. these gifts to Jesus. But you don't hear

  885. of anybody else other than Elizabeth and

  886. the immediate family. And then later on

  887. in chapter 3 and four, John the Baptist

  888. shows up and says, "BEHOLD THE LAMB OF

  889. GOD WHICH TAKETH AWAY THE SINS OF THE

  890. WORLD." BUT NOBODY COULD FIND HIM. WHY

  891. IS THAT? They weren't looking for it.

  892. >> You're right.

  893. >> You say, "Preacher, but Herod sent his

  894. sent his men out there to find him and

  895. they killed all the babies that were

  896. under two." You understand, FRIEND? THEY

  897. WEREN'T looking for Jesus. You say,

  898. "Preacher, but they were they wanted to

  899. kill him." Oh, yeah. They weren't

  900. looking for him physically.

  901. >> You're right.

  902. >> But here's the truth about it.

  903. >> Come on.

  904. >> Jesus only reveals himself to people

  905. that want to see him.

  906. >> Right.

  907. There were people that were looking for

  908. him, but they didn't love him.

  909. >> You're right.

  910. >> You know what a lot of people's problem

  911. in church in this day and time is?

  912. >> Come on.

  913. >> They're looking for Jesus to get

  914. something from him.

  915. >> Amen.

  916. >> But they don't love him.

  917. >> Amen.

  918. >> Think about this with me. Herod and all

  919. Israel couldn't find him. It's because

  920. they couldn't receive him.

  921. >> You're right.

  922. >> Amen. Jesus said, John said it himself

  923. of Jesus said he came unto his own and

  924. his own received him not. You think

  925. about this. When they heard about that

  926. star, then them them magi walked through

  927. the streets of Jerusalem talking about

  928. this star. And and isn't it interesting

  929. that never once none of those men do you

  930. see recorded do they ask the magi,

  931. "Well, when are you going to see it

  932. again? And how can we go with you?"

  933. >> Right?

  934. >> Why didn't Herod ask HIM, "HEY, WHERE'S

  935. THAT THING SHINING AT? We want to GO

  936. WITH YOU AND FOLLOW YOU. WE WANT TO SEE

  937. HIM, TOO. But the truth is, they didn't

  938. want to.

  939. >> You're right.

  940. >> The Jews didn't want to see him. Herod

  941. didn't want to see him. Why? BECAUSE

  942. THEY DIDN'T LOVE HIM. They were not

  943. looking for him. They But these

  944. servants, Amen. these magi, they were

  945. watching. Verse two, we have seen.

  946. They were waiting. They were watching.

  947. But I'll say this, they were willing.

  948. >> Right?

  949. >> Verse number 11, notice it again. And

  950. when they were coming to the house,

  951. some writers say that this is some two

  952. years journey that these men take. I

  953. ain't got no way to verify that, but I

  954. know it's hundreds of hundreds of miles

  955. that these men have traveled. And

  956. they've come all the way and the star

  957. has led them to Bethlehem.

  958. And they walk into the house. Why is

  959. that? Because they made a decision back

  960. in the east.

  961. >> Oh, I wish somebody hook up with me.

  962. They made a decision back over there in

  963. the east when all they saw was that

  964. star.

  965. [clears throat]

  966. >> Anybody, anybody yanking up with that,

  967. this yoking up with that?

  968. >> They made a decision back there in the

  969. east when all they saw was the star,

  970. they said this, that's his star.

  971. >> Amen.

  972. >> Put your walking shoes on, boys.

  973. >> Amen.

  974. >> Why is that? They were willing.

  975. >> You're right.

  976. >> They were willing. You say, "Preacher,

  977. what's the truth of this this morning?"

  978. Well, I said the title is this. wise men

  979. still seek him. I I thought about this.

  980. This verse came to my mind immediately

  981. about this text and I know we've been

  982. sort of scattered this morning. I

  983. believe this is what God had for us

  984. today. Acts 17,

  985. Paul was preaching to those men of

  986. Athens on Mars Hill. And he made one of

  987. the most profound, probably one of the

  988. most profound sermons in history. He

  989. preached to these men. But one of the

  990. most profound statements he makes in

  991. verse 27 of Acts 17. He says this, put

  992. it in your margin. The Bible says that.

  993. Notice verse 26. Let's read it here. And

  994. hath made of one blood all nations of

  995. men for to dwell on all the face of the

  996. earth. And hath determined the times

  997. before appointed in the bounds of their

  998. habitation. Now, isn't that interesting?

  999. I was just telling you about them three

  1000. groups of people.

1001. >> Herod's crowd and the Israel, Jesus

1002. family, and then these magi that come

1003. in. And what does Paul say?

1004. He hath made of one blood all nations of

1005. men for to dwell on all the face of the

1006. earth and hath determined the times

1007. before appointing the bounds of their

1008. habitation. Verse 27 that they should

1009. seek the Lord if happily they might feel

1010. after him and find him. Oh, listen to

1011. this. Though he be not far from every

  1012. one of us.

  1013. >> That's right. Right.

1014. >> You know what? Them wise men traveled a

  1015. long ways physically.

1016. But you know what? When they took that

1017. step to leave, you know what? They was

1018. one that accompanied them all the way.

  1019. >> That's right.

1020. >> You know, from the moment you got saved,

1021. heaven feels like a million miles away

  1022. physically, doesn't it?

  1023. >> Right.

1024. >> But I'll tell you this, in the spirit of

1025. God, there's been somebody walking with

  1026. you.

1027. >> From the day that you decided,

  1028. >> you're right.

1029. >> And you know what? One of these days,

1030. you're going to step foot in Jesus

  1031. house. You're

  1032. >> right. Amen.

1033. >> Notice it again. Verse 11. And when they

1034. were coming to the house, they saw the

1035. young child with Mary his mother, and

1036. fell down and worshiped him. And when

1037. they had opened their treasures, they

1038. presented unto him gifts, gold, and

1039. frankincense and myrr. You know what?

1040. One of these days when we get to his

  1041. house,

  1042. >> right?

1043. >> You know what we going to do?

1044. >> We going to present what he's given to

  1045. us in this life,

  1046. >> right?

1047. >> Lay it all at his feet.

  1048. >> Amen.

1049. >> You know what we'll do? We'll bow his

  1050. feet.

1051. >> Yes. and worship him.

  1052. >> Amen.

1053. >> Because you know what? He started with

1054. us. He stayed with us.

  1055. >> You're right.

1056. >> And he delivered us,

  1057. >> right?

1058. >> Brought us into his house.

1059. >> And you know what? These wise men left

1060. his house on this earth. But I'll tell

1061. you what, we'll never leave his house

  1062. over there. Amen.

  1063. >> I say, bless his name.

  1064. >> I don't know about you, but I'm going to

1065. just keep on seeking him. Amen. Not

1066. because I need to be saved again, but

1067. because he saved me way back yonder. And

1068. I'm just going to keep on following him

1069. and serving him and seeking him. Why?

1070. Because I know if I'll stay with him,

1071. I'll never go wrong. AMEN. HEY, THE

1072. LIGHT MIGHT GO OUT FOR A LITTLE WHILE

1073. EVERY NOW AND AGAIN, BUT THANK GOD I'VE

1074. GOT THIS BLESSED BIBLE TO KEEP ME IN THE

1075. DARK TIMES. AMEN. AND WHEN IT'S ALL SAID

1076. and done, I'LL END UP AT HIS HOUSE ON

1077. THE SUNNY BANKS OF SWEET DELIVERANCE.

1078. NEVER MORE TO WORRY ABOUT SIN STRIFE.

1079. HEY, THERE'LL NEVER BE NO MORE DANGER OF

1080. JESUS. HEY, HE'S GOING TO WIPE OUT ALL

1081. THE ENEMIES. AMEN. But ain't nobody

1082. going to be trying to take his life over

  1083. there. Amen.

  1084. >> Right. That's right.

1085. >> We'll be safe in his arms.

  1086. >> Amen.

  1087. >> Instead of us beholding a baby, we'll

  1088. behold a lamb.

  1089. >> That's right.

1090. >> As it had been slain. Amen.

  1091. >> Amen.

1092. >> Let me ask you this morning,

1093. >> will you seek him?

1094. >> Because wise men still seek him.

1095. >> Amen. Every head bowed and every eye

  1096. closed this morning.

1097. >> I'll say this to you today.

  1098. Jesus

  1099. is the best thing

1100. that has ever happened to any of us.

1101. >> He is the greatest

1102. blessing that you and I had. You say,

1103. "Preacher, I just do not feel blessed."

1104. Let me say this to you this morning. If

  1105. you have Jesus,

  1106. you have more

  1107. than the richest

1108. of rich men. You have more wealth

1109. than the most renowned men of this

  1110. world.

1111. [music] We've been made hes and joint

  1112. hes

1113. with Jesus Christ. And when those magi

1114. looked on him that day,

  1115. it's like I told you, they didn't come

1116. for what he could do for them. Cuz that

1117. little baby didn't have much to offer

  1118. them.

1119. But you know what? They knew who he was.

1120. They knew he was Lord.

1121. And they knew that just down the road,

  1122. some 30 years later,

1123. he would give his life so that they

  1124. could be saved.

1125. I didn't preach about it, but those go

1126. that gold frankincense and myrr, they

  1127. were representing

1128. that he was a king,

1129. that he was a sacrifice,

1130. and that he was a savior. [music]

1131. And they pointed out his deity,

  1132. incarnate God in flesh,

1133. there for Mary and Joseph to see.

1134. And isn't it wonderful that God left

1135. Joseph and Mary in Bethlehem just long

1136. enough so that they could get there and

  1137. see him?

  1138. >> Yes.

1139. >> Let me say this. I'm telling you, this

1140. is helping me this morning.

  1141. >> Amen.

1142. >> You know what? But until the last soul

  1143. gets saved,

1144. >> the gospel, Jesus will still be in

  1145. Bethlehem. You're

  1146. >> right.

1147. >> Till the last ones lays their eyes on

1148. HIM BY FAITH AND TRUST HIM, Jesus will

  1149. stay.

  1150. >> Amen. Right.

1151. >> Father, thank you so much

1152. for the privilege that we have

1153. to trust in you, to seek you, to serve

  1154. you, to know you.

1155. Lord, [clears throat] I thank you for

1156. the precious truths of this scripture

1157. that teach us, Father, we can know

1158. that we've been with you.

1159. Lord, the light of that star will lead

1160. us on. And Lord, I know it's not a

1161. physical star, not something that we can

1162. physically see, but the spirit of God

  1163. living on the inside,

  1164. illuminates our heart

  1165. gives us direction.

1166. And Lord, for every day that it feels

  1167. dark and gloomy,

1168. when everything feels wrong, we don't

1169. know which way to go, I'm thankful that

1170. your word is still there

1171. that we can go to in those dark times.

1172. And Lord, I pray, Father, for every

1173. heart that's here this morning. I pray

1174. nobody leave this service lost this

  1175. morning.

1176. And God, for the rest of us, I pray we'd

  1177. rest in the light,

1178. knowing, Father, that we're headed to

  1179. your house.

1180. I want to ask you this this morning just

1181. before we close this service.

  1182. Are you saved?

1183. Do you know the Lord?

1184. I never do this, but I want to just ask

1185. you if you're saved, could you just

1186. raise your hand and testify that this

  1187. morning? Preacher, I'm saved.

1188. Saved, you know you're saved.

1189. Amen. [music] You can put them back

  1190. down.

1191. I'll say this to you this morning. If

1192. you're here in this place and you are

  1193. not saved,

1194. you can be saved today.

1195. You can be saved today. You say,

  1196. "Preacher, [music]

1197. would you pray for me? I know I'm not

1198. saved. I need to be saved." Preacher,

1199. anybody like that? Just slip your hand

1200. up right back down. I want to pray for

1201. [music] you. Anybody be honest? You

1202. couldn't raise your hand this morning

  1203. that you're saved.

1204. Would you be honest enough to slip it up

1205. and say, "Preacher, I'm lost."

  1206. Anybody? [music]

1207. Let me say this to you. Maybe you are

  1208. saved,

1209. but you just feel like you're walking

1210. through the dark time [music]

1211. these holidays seasons of the year.

1212. Often times the hardest things that

1213. you'll go through in life just because

1214. sometimes you'll sit there at a table

1215. and there'll be an empty chair.

  1216. There'll be a

1217. seemingly open place in your heart

  1218. because

1219. those that you are around are not there

  1220. anymore.

1221. Let me say this to you. Jesus will be

  1222. whatever you need.

  1223. He's been a father. He's been a mother.

  1224. He's been a friend, a sister, a brother.

1225. And I can promise you there's some folk

1226. in here that'll tell you when everybody

  1227. else is gone.

  1228. >> Yes.

  1229. >> I'll tell you he'll be there.

  1230. >> Right.

1231. >> He will not leave you. He will not

  1232. forsake you.

1233. And I want you this morning just allow

1234. that place in your life that seems

1235. empty, let Jesus fill that up.

  1236. Don't let regrets

  1237. and remorse,

1238. don't let wishing something was

1239. different fill it up. Let Jesus fill it

1240. up. Cuz here's what'll happen. The devil

1241. want to fill that place up in your life

1242. and he'll make you bitter. But I'll tell

1243. you this, you let Jesus fill that place

1244. up in your life, you know what? It'll be

  1245. blessing,

  1246. >> right?

  1247. It'll be a place of bliss

1248. because he can do that. Father, thank

  1249. you so much.

1250. Thank you so much, God, that

1251. Lord, you're not in that manger anymore.

1252. You're not in Bethlehem. You're not even

1253. on the cross anymore. But Lord, you're

  1254. in heaven.

1255. And Lord, for these your children here

1256. this morning that are hurting,

1257. God, you're praying for them.

1258. You told Simon Peter that you were

1259. praying for him. And your word tells us

1260. that you ever live to make intercession

  1261. for us.

1262. And Lord, that you love us even more

1263. than we could even imagine ourselves.

1264. God, I pray through these days, Lord,

1265. this season, Father, I know it's hard

1266. for many. I pray, God, that you would

1267. help us to rest in you. But Lord, I

1268. pray, Father, even more than just

1269. resting. I pray that we would go beyond

  1270. resting to rejoicing,

1271. >> rejoicing, God, because you have given

1272. us so much. And I bless your holy name

1273. for it. Lord, I thank you for this

1274. service today. I thank you for the sweet

1275. spirit that we've had here in the house

1276. of God. And I pray you'll go with us

1277. now. We ask it in Jesus name. And God's

  1278. children said,

  1279. >> "Amen."

  1280. >> Amen.

1281. >> Thank you for joining our service today.
