  6. with your friends. Now, let's join

  7. Pastor Charlie Branch with a word from

  8. God.

  9. Amen. if you would turn with me to the

  10. book of Jude tonight. The book of Jude,

  11. please. And we'll be back there and uh

  12. just praying where the Lord have us to

  13. be. I think we're going to look through

  14. the entirety of this book. Be honest

  15. with you, I think it's very timely uh

  16. considering the state of our country um

  17. where we're at, all the events that's

  18. taking place. I want to deal with some

  19. of that tonight. Talk about a few things

  20. and ask the Lord to help us give us

  21. wisdom.

  22. The book of Jude. the book of Jude.

  23. A lot of things went on in our country

  24. uh in the last week. Uh some things even

  25. in our state in the last week and uh our

  26. our uh our state's been tore all to

  27. pieces about them boys walking and I

  28. want to say more about that in just a

  29. minute. Uh, but I want to look at these

  30. verses tonight and maybe the Lord give

  31. us some wisdom here out of this text and

  32. uh been praying about what the Lord

  33. would have us to say about these verses.

  34. I'll be honest with you, I love the of

  35. the the love the epistles uh here in in

  36. the New Testament and uh what they deal

  37. with, what they're talking about. I I

  38. love what they have to say. Love Jude. I

  39. love John's epistles. I love Peter's

  40. epistles. and they all deal with the

  41. same thought really and it's relevant to

  42. where we're living at in this day and

  43. time. And I tell you what, we're living

  44. in perilous times.

  45. >> And Paul told Timothy that it would be

  46. this way. And I think, you know, every

  47. preacher in every generation for the

  48. last um I mean two 2,000 years has

  49. probably thought, you know, man, this is

  50. this is just as bad as it can get. Uh

  51. but I'll be honest with you, I don't

  52. know if it's as bad as it can get or

  53. not.

  54. >> I really I I think that it can get a

  55. whole lot worse. And I know, I'll say

  56. this, I know it can get a whole lot

  57. worse because there's coming a day when

  58. the church is removed. Uh that things

  59. are going to get a whole lot worse. And

  60. uh and so I don't think we've seen just

  61. a drop in the bucket. And I'm praying

  62. that God I'm praying even so come

  63. quickly, Lord Jesus. And I'd love for

  64. him to come. And I ain't nothing hold me

  65. in this world. Amen. And I was talking

  66. with a dear sister today and made this

  67. statement. I said, "There just ain't

  68. nothing this life worth hanging on to."

  69. and all the possessions and all the all

  70. the life that you can buy a hold of. It

  71. ain't going to give you any more life in

  72. your life.

  73. >> That's right.

  74. >> It'll all be gone. That's right.

  75. >> And uh I just want to make sure I've

  76. lived what I'm supposed to live for

  77. Jesus. Amen. Jude verse number one. And

  78. we'll begin reading there. Look look at

  79. just a couple more verses tonight. And I

  80. don't endeavor to spend six months in

  81. this little book. I don't want to be

  82. like that. Um but I do want to make sure

  83. that I give you the entirety of what's

  84. here. and uh consider uh each of these

  85. verses appropriately. Verse number one,

  86. the Bible says, "Jude, the servant of

  87. Jesus Christ and brother of James, to

  88. them that are sanctified by God the

  89. Father and preserved in Jesus Christ and

  90. called mercy unto you and peace and love

  91. be multiplied. Beloved, when I gave all

  92. diligence to write unto you the common

  93. of the common salvation, it was needful

  94. for me to write unto you and exhort you

  95. that you should earnestly contend for

  96. the faith which was once delivered unto

  97. the saints. For there are certain men

  98. crept in unawares who were before of old

  99. ordained to this condemnation, ungodly

  100. men, turning the grace of our God into

  101. lasciviousness, and denying the only

  102. Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ. I

  103. will therefore put you in remembrance,

  104. though you once knew this, how that the

  105. Lord, having saved the people out of the

  106. land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them

  107. that believe not. Father, I ask you

  108. humbly as we look at these verses

  109. tonight, you'd give us wisdom and

  110. discernment. God, I pray that you will

  111. open our eyes uh that we might behold

  112. wondrous things in thy law. Pray you'd

  113. help us to receive with meekness the

  114. engrafted word. And God, I pray that you

  115. would uh take hold of us tonight and

  116. help us to be obedient, Father, to your

  117. word. Be submissive uh Lord, what you

  118. have to say to us, God. Give us wisdom

  119. and discernment, Lord. Put set a watch

  120. about our lips, God. We'd say nothing,

  121. be displeasing to you, but God, that we

  122. would say everything that would bring

  123. honor and glory to your name. And Lord,

  124. for what you do, we'll give you thanks.

  125. We ask it in Jesus' name. Amen. this

  126. text, this portion of the book of Jude

  127. that we've come to tonight, verses four

  128. and five. We dealt uh pretty speedily

  129. with speedily with verses 1 through3

  130. there uh a week ago Sunday night. And uh

  131. there's more I could say about that, but

  132. I didn't have liberty to go back and

  133. reind re uh endeavor to teach that. And

  134. so I want to deal tonight verses four

  135. and five. The Lord helping us. And I

  136. want to look at the subject really of

  137. the book of Jude and is the subject of

  138. apostasy. If you want to title it that,

  139. that's what we're going to be talking

  140. about tonight. Apostasy. Now, apostasy

  141. is not a is not a Bible word, but I'll

  142. tell you this, it is a it is a Bible

  143. doctrine.

  144. >> And what I mean by doctrine, it's a

  145. truth that's present in the last days.

  146. Literally, every epistle writes about

  147. this subject. And apostasy simply means

  148. this. It means an an abandonment of what

  149. one has professed. a total desertion or

  150. departure from one's faith or religion.

  151. And I'll say it again if you want to

  152. write that down. It's it's it's

  153. Webster's dict it's Webster's definition

  154. of apostasy. It means an abandonment of

  155. what one has professed, a total

  156. desertion or departure a departure from

  157. one's faith or religion. And a verse

  158. that describes this very well is the

  159. book of Hebrews.

  160. Hebrews chapter number three.

  161. Hebrews chapter number three and verse

  162. number 12.

  163. The writer of Hebrews exhorting the

  164. brethren here in verse 12. He says,

  165. "Take heed, brethren, lest there be in

  166. any of you an evil heart of unbelief in

  167. departing from the living God." And so

  168. apostasy is literally it's a departure.

  169. It's a departure from truth. It's a

  170. departure from operating in the fullness

  171. of the word of God. Now, what we believe

  172. tonight as Baptists that our authority

  173. comes from the word of God in that

  174. alone. We have no other foundation to

  175. operate upon.

  176. >> Men can say that they operate in the

  177. spirit of God and that gives them extra

  178. biblical revelation or extra biblical

  179. authority. But we don't believe that

  180. tonight. We know that the spirit of God

  181. and the word of God go hand in hand. The

  182. two complement each other. And so you

  183. cannot have the appropriate Christian

  184. life without a fullness of the spirit of

  185. God and a steady diet of the word of God

  186. in your life. And so when Jude in this

  187. text, of course, we remember that he he

  188. he's exhorting them according to verse

  189. three to earnestly contend for the

  190. faith. And then he's going to give them

  191. the precipice, the reasoning why in

  192. verse number four that they should be

  193. earnestly contending. Listen to what he

  194. says. He says, "For there are certain

  195. men crept in unawares, who were before

  196. of old, ordained to this condemnation,

  197. ungodly men, turning the grace of our

  198. God into lasciviousness, and denying the

  199. only Lord God and our Lord Jesus

  200. Christ." And I want to lay out just five

  201. things by way of introduction. Verse

  202. four, we'll consider the entrance of

  203. apostasy and verse number four. Verse

  204. number five, we'll begin dealing with

  205. the examples of apostasy tonight. And in

  206. verse number four here, he is he's

  207. speaking on the matter of those that

  208. have crept in. Now, this is literal.

  209. Okay, Jude is literally viewing this in

  210. the churches in and I don't know if it's

  211. a singular church. I do know I do

  212. believe that it's more than one church.

  213. Uh by the by the terminology that he

  214. uses here in verse number four. And he

  215. speaks of these men. And what does he

  216. say about them? You note that he

  217. mentions first of all the stealth of

  218. these men. He says, "For there are

  219. certain men crept in unawares." That

  220. word unawares literally means that they

  221. are under the radar. They are not seen.

  222. They are hidden from view. They've crept

  223. in unawares. They were stealth in their

  224. interest. Now, we know tonight that

  225. there's people and there's things that

  226. happen in our life that slip through the

  227. cracks. You've lived any amount of li

  228. any time in this life. You know it's

  229. true in business. You know it's true in

  230. family. And it's definitely true in the

  231. church. Amen. There's things that creep

  232. in. There's people that creep into the

  233. church and they have a form of godliness

  234. but they deny the power thereof. The

  235. Bible tells us from such turn away.

  236. Amen. And it and time reveals those kind

  237. of people. And that's what's happening

  238. in this text. Jude says there's certain

  239. men crept in unawares. He said we didn't

  240. see them when they came in but now we

  241. see. And the truth is tonight it doesn't

  242. take long to find out what somebody

  243. really believes.

  244. >> Amen. And I like what brother Gra says.

  245. I said all the time. He says, "Truth

  246. reveals people and trials reveal

  247. people." And he said, "If you give it

  248. long enough, time by itself will reveal

  249. people." And that's the truth. He's he's

  250. finding out. Jude is saying there's men

  251. that's crept in. They've come in under

  252. the radar. And so, the enemy has slipped

  253. his minions in to the church here. And

  254. then there's not only the stealth here,

  255. but there's the sentence that's

  256. mentioned in verse number four, who were

  257. before of old ordained to this

  258. condemnation. Now, it's already been

  259. spoken that these men would show up, but

  260. it's already been spoken the sentence

  261. upon these men. You see, the Old

  262. Testament reveals even talks about these

  263. type of men that would try to subvert

  264. the gospel of Christ in the last day. We

  265. know that it's it's come with much

  266. affliction. It come with much

  267. opposition. And so, you you say,

  268. "Preacher, what's an example of that?"

  269. that well you think about the gospel

  270. before Jesus had ever even ascended back

  271. into heaven again there was already an

  272. effort being made on part of the

  273. Pharisees to withhold the truth from the

  274. world they were going to they paid off

  275. men to do what to spread a lie that said

  276. the disciples came and took his body out

  277. of the tomb and so there was already a

  278. work that that was being done to subvert

  279. the gospel and that's ultimately what

  280. this work is I'll say more about that in

  281. just a minute but these men have and

  282. sinners. Now, what does it mean that

  283. they were of old ordained to

  284. condemnation? That does not mean that it

  285. was for ordained before the foundation

  286. of the world that God was going to

  287. condemn these men and send them to hell.

  288. That's not what this means. It means

  289. that the word of God has already spoken

  290. about these men and pointed them out.

  291. You see, what we see in many churches in

  292. this day and time, it's just a it's just

  293. a revelation of what Paul told Timothy,

  294. >> right?

  295. >> In the last days, perilous times would

  296. come. men would be lovers of their own

  297. selves. And all the listings that he

  298. gives, it's already been spoken of who

  299. they are,

  300. >> right?

  301. >> And so it's obvious who they are and

  302. what they are. And they are headed for

  303. condemnation. God doesn't take lightly

  304. to people tampering with his church,

  305. >> right?

  306. >> And so they are headed for condemnation.

  307. They are sentenced. Though they are

  308. stealthy, they are already sinister.

  309. Now, and I want to say this before I go

  310. any further. We can rejoice in that

  311. tonight,

  312. >> right?

  313. >> Because you think about this. Everybody

  314. has tried to make a mess out of the

  315. church.

  316. >> Come on.

  317. >> Their sentence has already been written.

  318. >> You're right.

  319. >> When they make when they when they do

  320. their best, when the enemy has tried to

  321. to rip the church apart and turn us

  322. upside down and inside out, the Bible

  323. already tells us that he has ordained

  324. it. It's already spoken that he is

  325. condemned and those who operate for him.

  326. You know, not only the sin, but note the

  327. sinfulness in verse four. The Bible says

  328. two words there in the middle of that

  329. verse. They are ungodly men. That

  330. literally means that they are completely

  331. and utterly wicked. That's what that

  332. means. That ungodly. It's the they are

  333. the furthest extent of wickedness. Now,

  334. what makes these men wicked is is that

  335. they adhere to the outwardness of

  336. religion, but on the inside there is no

  337. fruit there. There's no faith there. And

  338. so, it makes them wicked because they

  339. fit in, but there's no faith that put

  340. them in.

  341. >> Right? There's people that can fit into

  342. the church. Amen. And I can tell you the

  343. devil can talk a talk better than any of

  344. us can. Amen. They can fit in, but faith

  345. never put them in. Amen. And that's what

  346. happens in a lot of places. And and so

  347. he points out their sinfulness, they're

  348. ungodly. And then not only their

  349. sinfulness that they're ungodly men, but

  350. he points out their substitution. What

  351. is it that makes them ungodly? Notice

  352. verse four. turning the grace of our God

  353. into lasciviousness and denying the only

  354. Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ. So

  355. their substitution is is that they are

  356. taking grace and putting in its place

  357. all uh um complete and utter wickedness.

  358. What are we seeing in this day and time?

  359. Well, people are taking the doctrines of

  360. salvation, they're throwing them out,

  361. right?

  362. >> Saying that God accepts you as you are,

  363. come as you are, leave as you are. Amen.

  364. And you'll be fine. Amen. That's the

  365. that's the doctrine that the world

  366. preaches this day and time. And you

  367. know, it it baffles me in this day and

  368. time, we have so many Methodist and and

  369. even Baptist churches now that are

  370. ordaining women preachers and further

  371. more than that, they're ordaining

  372. sodomite preachers

  373. >> in their pull pits. We wonder how is

  374. that possible? Well, it's possible

  375. because they've tooken take the gra took

  376. the grace of God that we operate upon

  377. and they've substituted their wickedness

  378. for it. That's what's happened. And what

  379. this means in this text right here when

  380. it says that they've turned the grace of

  381. God into lasciviousness, no man has any

  382. power to change the grace of God. Aren't

  383. you thankful for that tonight? But that

  384. word turning means an exchange.

  385. Means to take one thing in the place of

  386. another. And so they've taken grace and

  387. pushed it out and said, "We want our

  388. lifestyle. We want our wickedness. We

  389. want our ideologies and our theories

  390. about life." And so they're exchanging

  391. the grace. They're they're they're

  392. throwing away what God has blessed us

  393. with in order that they might receive

  394. the works of their flesh. And notice

  395. it's defined in the end of the verse,

  396. verse four, with their spurning. Look

  397. what the Bible says. They turn the grace

  398. of our God into lasciviousness. So

  399. there's an exchange and then there's an

  400. express denial in verse four. And

  401. denying the only Lord God and our Lord

  402. Jesus Christ. So they're denying first

  403. of all they're denying the Trinity, the

  404. only Lord God. That's God the Father,

  405. God the Son, God the Holy Ghost. So they

  406. deny the Trinity, but they also deny the

  407. truth of the gospel. Look what he says.

  408. Denying the only Lord God and our Lord

  409. Jesus Christ. They're denying him. They

  410. are not receiving. They will not adhere

  411. to the gospel. Now, I'll say this

  412. tonight. Any man or any ministry that

  413. does not adhere to the authority of the

  414. gospel has no authority from God.

  415. >> You're right. Right. And uh I'm thankful

  416. tonight for the setting that we have

  417. here this evening for this reason

  418. because there's a lot of things that's

  419. being said right now. And I don't ever

  420. remember it being said this way in my

  421. younger days, but people now it's been

  422. brought to light. Uh you know, we had

  423. MLK Day here just a few days ago. And

  424. and I've always been taught not by my

  425. family, but just by people that were

  426. around me that he was a good good

  427. God-fearing man and he believed God and

  428. the gospel and all of that. But what

  429. I've come to find is he didn't. You're

  430. right.

  431. >> He did not believe the doctrine uh of

  432. the trend. He did not believe the

  433. doctrine of Jesus Christ, the son of

  434. God. He denied a lot of things about the

  435. faith. And so really uh I mean if

  436. anything, he just had a good word for

  437. the world. That's about all he had. Best

  438. I can figure. You say, "Why are you

  439. saying all that?" Well, I'm saying this

  440. is what apostasy is,

  441. >> right? When we look at those men and we

  442. make them shrines,

  443. >> we make them them statues of history and

  444. say that they were devout in their faith

  445. and in their following of Christ. But

  446. what we find about them is really when

  447. you really dig deep into their life, you

  448. find out they really didn't have any

  449. faith at all. You're

  450. >> right.

  451. >> And this crowd right now that's

  452. supporting, the churches that are

  453. supporting, this is what shocks me. All

  454. right? And I ain't going to hang out

  455. right here very long, but it just

  456. absolutely blows my mind how many

  457. Christian people are supporting these

  458. guys that's been walking across this

  459. country. You're

  460. >> right.

  461. >> Those fellas are as wicked as wicked

  462. gets. You say, "What do you mean they're

  463. Buddhist?" Just go research you some

  464. about Buddhism a little bit and just

  465. just study up on their meditations and

  466. what they believe about the world in

  467. which we live. A Christian has no right

  468. to condone, to celebrate, or

  469. congratulate anything that those men do,

  470. >> right?

  471. >> We we don't we don't adhere to that

  472. stuff. We don't acknowledge their

  473. accomplishments,

  474. >> right?

  475. >> Because it it's not going to bring

  476. peace. We know that.

  477. >> And this is what I'm saying tonight. I'm

  478. You say, "Preacher, well, they're not

  479. apostates." And you're right. They're

  480. not. They've never been a part of what

  481. we are.

  482. >> But the people that are congratulating

  483. them

  484. >> and cheering them on, that's apostasy.

  485. >> That's right. this this ecumenical

  486. ideology that we do not have to be

  487. separated from from denominations that

  488. adhere to this stuff. There's a reason

  489. why we can't fellowship with every

  490. church in the community.

  491. >> Right?

  492. >> You see many churches in this day and

  493. time, they've adopted the mentality and

  494. you see it a lot and and there's guys

  495. that's, you know, that's down through

  496. years past, you know, they'd say, "Well,

  497. that that ecclesiastical separation

  498. thing, we don't we don't really believe

  499. in that." Well, the problem is if you

  500. believe the Bible and the doctrines of

  501. the Bible, you cannot fellowship with

  502. somebody who does not believe the

  503. doctrines of the Bible.

  504. >> If somebody does not believe in the

  505. virgin birth of Jesus,

  506. >> we can't fellowship with them.

  507. >> If somebody does not believe in the

  508. deity of Jesus Christ, we cannot

  509. fellowship with them. If somebody does

  510. not believe that it is the blood of

  511. Jesus Christ that brings salvation and

  512. forgiveness of sins, we cannot

  513. fellowship with them.

  514. If somebody believes that it's all right

  515. for a person to be a homosexual,

  516. >> if a church, a a movement adopts that

  517. mentality, can we fellowship with that?

  518. >> No.

  519. And so there's a there's a time and a

  520. place in our life. I understand, you

  521. know, the the operations of peace. I I

  522. get every bit of that. And and you know,

  523. people talking about, well, we've

  524. congratulated Trump. We've paraded

  525. Trump. No, here's the truth about that.

  526. We know God as the church has been

  527. giving us a space of grace,

  528. >> right?

  529. >> When he got elected,

  530. >> all right? I'm not He's not a saint. We

  531. know that tonight. He's wicked as a

  532. devil. We know that very well.

  533. >> Amen.

  534. >> But here's the truth about it tonight.

  535. Just because the world flocks to these

  536. things, congratulates, celebrates, and

  537. and adheres to this stuff does not mean

  538. that we should.

  539. >> Right?

  540. >> That's apostasy.

  541. >> When we turn away, it's a willful

  542. turning away. It's a departure. See, if

  543. you leave the doctrine, and I I'm trying

  544. to I'm having a hard time getting off my

  545. soap box, Sister Betty. But if you leave

  546. the if you go somewhere else and you and

  547. you try to yoke up with something else,

  548. you know what you have to leave behind?

  549. >> Come on.

  550. >> You have to leave the truth behind,

  551. >> right?

  552. >> So, if you go and hook up with this

  553. crowd and say, "We're going to link arm

  554. in- arm.

  555. >> We got the same goal in mind." There's

  556. no way that's possible. First of all,

  557. >> number two, if you do that, you've left

  558. truth far behind.

  559. >> Right?

  560. >> Truth doesn't move. Don't we know that

  561. tonight? Jesus does not change. Truth

  562. does not move. Light has no fellowship

  563. with

  564. >> Right?

  565. >> That's the truth tonight. And so he

  566. tells us here, he says they're denying

  567. the only Lord God. If they deny the

  568. deity

  569. >> of God the Father, there are men that

  570. crept in. Jude is dealing with these men

  571. presently. See, it's we think about

  572. this. Well, they're outside. They're in

  573. the world. We know that's different. But

  574. the problem is it's in the church.

  575. >> There are men that do not believe that

  576. Jesus Christ IS THE SON OF GOD.

  577. >> In the church, in good churches. There

  578. are men that do not believe THAT MARY

  579. WAS A VIRGIN.

  580. It would surprise you the amount of

  581. people that believe that. You say,

  582. "Preacher, not in the Bible belt, not

  583. where we live."

  584. You'd be shocked.

  585. And the thing is, here's here's here's

  586. the thing about it. It's so silent.

  587. They'll they Satan is so He is so

  588. worried about being effective. If he can

  589. take one man to affect one person for a

  590. lifetime, he'll wait,

  591. >> right?

  592. >> He'll do that. He really will. If he

  593. can, if it takes him using one man for a

  594. lifetime to affect only one other person

  595. for his entire lifetime, he'll do it.

  596. You're

  597. >> right. He doesn't care. Whatever he can

  598. do to subvert the hearer from the truth,

  599. that's what he will do.

  600. >> Amen.

  601. >> And so we have to be watchful. I'll say

  602. this. We must be witness to these truth.

  603. See, the best way, you know this

  604. tonight, you've heard this your entire

  605. life, longer than I've been around. The

  606. best way to know the real thing, the

  607. best way to tell a counterfeit is to

  608. know the real thing. Ain't that right?

  609. >> And so, it very well shows us who the

  610. counterfeits are. Now, notice here, and

  611. I need to move. I spent way too much

  612. time on that. They deny the trinity, the

  613. only Lord God. They deny the truth, our

  614. Lord Jesus Christ, the truth of the

  615. gospel. And John says this is the spirit

  616. of Antichrist. Notice, notice this.

  617. First John 2. Listen to what he says. I

  618. mean, he goes goes to deep extremes to

  619. explain this. Verse 22, verse number 21.

  620. I've not written unto you because you

  621. know not the truth, but because you know

  622. that no lies of the truth. Who is a liar

  623. but he that denth that Jesus is the

  624. Christ? He is Antichrist that denyth the

  625. father and the son. Those that deny who

  626. God is in his person. And those that

  627. deny Jesus Christ, that's Antichrist.

  628. >> Right?

  629. >> That is the spirit of Antichrist. You

  630. say, "Preacher, well, the people in this

  631. world today, they do mention Jesus by

  632. name and they mention God by name." But

  633. here's what you're going to find. that

  634. homosexual crowd, that sodomite crowd

  635. that talks about Jesus and and and and I

  636. hate to do this, but Don Lemon talking

  637. about how Jesus wouldn't have been that

  638. way. He don't know the Jesus that we

  639. know.

  640. >> They don't know anything about Jesus.

  641. And them comparing themselves going into

  642. that church and protesting to Jesus

  643. going in the temple and turning the

  644. tables over. I would surprise I would

  645. not be surprised as every one of them

  646. burnt in hell for that statement.

  647. Not even close to the same thing.

  648. >> They didn't go in there with the right

  649. spirit. Amen. They went in there with a

  650. spirit of antichrist on them. That's

  651. exactly what that was. Let me let me

  652. just say this tonight. When we consider

  653. this thought, okay, this is what lays

  654. everybody else apart.

  655. If you want to know who the fakes are,

  656. you're right.

  657. >> He says in verse number five, I will

  658. therefore put you in remembrance. And

  659. this is what I love about this. Jude

  660. gives us a lesson on preaching right

  661. here. He doesn't say, "All right, verse

  662. number four, he he tells us he tells us

  663. about these certain men and and the

  664. example that he he gives us the entrance

  665. of apostasy in the church, but now he's

  666. going to give us an example." And notice

  667. he doesn't use an example of somebody

  668. that's presently in the church.

  669. >> What's his first example? Notice verse

  670. five. I will therefore put you in

  671. remembrance, though you once knew this,

  672. how that the Lord having saved the

  673. people out of the land of Egypt,

  674. afterward destroyed them that believe

  675. not. So who's he using? He's using

  676. Israel. He's using the ones that they

  677. should be most familiar with as Jews.

  678. And Jude, of course, being a halfbrother

  679. of Jesus, they knew the law. They were

  680. very familiar with the law. Joseph being

  681. their daddy, they knew that. They knew

  682. that that the law. They knew the

  683. penitutes. They knew all of that. And so

  684. they're familiar with the Jews and these

  685. men, those Jews there in Jerusalem that

  686. had been saved, they would be familiar

  687. with this story. What does he say about

  688. it? Well, notice first of all in Israel

  689. out of Egypt, he's talking about their

  690. unbelief. You know, unbelief is the

  691. first form of apostasy.

  692. >> You know where apostasy forms? In the

  693. heart. Amen. That's word forms. Where

  694. does unbelief form? In the heart. Before

  695. an action ever takes place in somebody's

  696. life, before they ever apostasize to the

  697. naked eye, they've already apostasized

  698. in their heart and it's unbelief. Notice

  699. what he says in verse 5. He says, "I

  700. want to put you in remembrance. I want

  701. to remind you what the Bible says."

  702. Amen. That's a good lesson on preaching.

  703. He's going to go back to the word of

  704. God. Though you once knew this, said

  705. you're very well aware of this. How that

  706. the Lord having saved the people out of

  707. the land of Egypt. So there's

  708. deliverance. Now, let me ask you this.

  709. How many people did God save out of the

  710. land of Egypt?

  711. All of them, didn't he? The Jews, every

  712. one of them walked out of there. Now, I

  713. want you to think about this with me.

  714. This deliverance is total. Exodus 13:1

    Exodus 13:1

  715. 17-22. If that's not in your margin, I

  716. encourage you to put it in there. It's

  717. the text that talks about their

  718. deliverance. They walked out of there.

  719. They walked out of there and then they

  720. walked across the Red Sea. Complete and

  721. total deliverance. What does that

  722. represent to us? Salvation. God

  723. delivered them from bondage. But then

  724. there's not only deliverance in verse 5,

  725. but there's destruction in verse five.

  726. Notice that after he saved the people

  727. out of the land of Egypt. I'm glad he

  728. uses that word. All right? Afterward

  729. destroyed them that believe not. Now, I

  730. want to put this to rest right here.

  731. Okay? Does not mean that when they come

  732. out of Egypt that they lost their

  733. salvation, went to hell. Not what that

  734. means. Okay. It is possible. Here what

  735. I'm fixing to say. It is possible for

  736. somebody who's truly saved to

  737. apostasize.

  738. It's possible. You say, "How is that?"

  739. Well, they fall away from the truth.

  740. >> You say, "Preacher, what are you trying

  741. to say?" Well, let me ask you, who all

  742. come out of Egypt?

  743. Moses, Aaron, Joshua, Caleb, and the 12

  744. tribes and their children. They all came

  745. out of Egypt. Now, there's three classes

  746. of people that you have right there in

  747. that text. You've got those that came

  748. out of Egypt. You know what happened to

  749. them? They got to go into Canaan land,

  750. >> right?

  751. >> How many went in?

  752. Caleb and Joshua.

  753. So, out of two. All right. Two out of

  754. all those millions of Israelites, two

  755. get to go in. Moses and Aaron. Let me

  756. ask you, do you think Moses and Aaron

  757. were saved?

  758. >> Doubtless. Right. But what happened to

  759. them? They didn't get to go in, did

  760. they?

  761. >> I'm going to say more about that in a

  762. minute. But then amidst all of that, all

  763. right, there's a mixed multitude that's

  764. present. I'll say more about this in a

  765. minute. Much of that crowd's lost. What

  766. is it Paul said? He said, he said all of

  767. them are, he said, all of them are

  768. Israel. They're not all Israel. What he

  769. meant by that is was he said just

  770. because they're they're Abraham's seed

  771. don't mean they're his seed in the

  772. faith. Amen. He's the father of the

  773. faith. He's the father of Isaac's

  774. children, Ishmael's children. But that

  775. does not mean that they all went to

  776. heaven. Amen.

  777. >> Just because they were a Jew. Now, I

  778. want to point out a few truths here. So,

  779. the implications here in this text is

  780. that among those multitudes were Moses,

  781. Aaron, Joshua, Caleb, and all the rest

  782. of Israel. Joshua and Caleb go in. Moses

  783. and Aaron were saved doubtless, but

  784. there were also those who weren't.

  785. Numbers 11 and verse number four

  786. mentions the mixed multitude. So, Caleb

  787. and Joshua go in. Why do they go in?

  788. because of belief.

  789. What is it? God commanded them and they

  790. believed God. And you know what? Because

  791. of that, God was faithful to them and

  792. granted them to go in in spite of

  793. everybody else. All right? So, they were

  794. able to go in because of belief. But you

  795. I want you to think about this. Moses

  796. and Aaron die in the wilderness. Why did

  797. they die in the wilderness? Because of

  798. unbelief.

  799. Say more about that in a minute. And

  800. then the multitude 20 years old and up

  801. died in the wilderness. Why did they

  802. die? Because of unbelief.

  803. Now, I'm going to give you scripture for

  804. all this in just a minute. But what's

  805. the difference? As great a man as Moses

  806. was, wouldn't we agree that Moses is the

  807. pinnacle of godliness in the Old

  808. Testament?

  809. >> He didn't get to go in. Why did he not

  810. go in? Unbelief.

  811. See, here's what separates the men's

  812. from men from the boys in these in this

  813. in this thing we call the Christian

  814. life. How far are you willing to go to

  815. believe God?

  816. >> You're right.

  817. >> And what are you willing to stop at

  818. >> and say, "I'm not going to believe that,

  819. and this as far as I'm going."

  820. >> Now, notice this. You consider here the

  821. implications of verse number five. And

  822. I'm butchering this. I've got so much I

  823. want to say and I ain't got enough time

  824. to say it. But notice the imagery here.

  825. I want to say this again. They were all

  826. delivered from Egypt appearingly. They

  827. that means that they were saved. All

  828. right. Apparently, they were also all

  829. brought through the Red Sea. That Red

  830. Sea is an image of the baptism means

  831. they were separated.

  832. Just stay with me. I'm going somewhere.

  833. They were saved. They separated. And

  834. notice this. In the wilderness, what did

  835. they eat,

  836. man?

  837. They were all sustained,

  838. >> right?

  839. >> God kept them. What does that man

  840. represent? Represent the word of God. He

  841. sustained them. But isn't it interesting

  842. but that all except two of them died in

  843. the wilderness. And Jude compares in

  844. verse number five, he compares that

  845. instance to apostasy.

  846. Now, here's what I believe tonight based

  847. on verse number five. Now, I may be

  848. totally off on this, but this is what I

  849. believe the Lord showed me on this.

  850. Okay? Apostasy is when you've got a

  851. unregenerate group of people and then

  852. you've got an unrevived group of people

  853. and they're all together in unbelief.

  854. And because of that unbelief, God said,

  855. "Every one of you is going to die."

  856. Notice this. All right? You see, all

  857. except two of these men died in the

  858. wilderness. And and Jude labels this as

  859. an apostate. And I remind you, it's an

  860. inspiration of the Holy Ghost. He says

  861. this, this is a turning away, a a

  862. turning over. And what did it start

  863. from? Well, it started from a group of

  864. 10 guys. It started earlier than that,

  865. but we I'm going to use these 10 guys

  866. for the illustration. Okay. All except

  867. two men died in the wilderness, and one

  868. event led the nation to apostasize, and

  869. it was because of one thing, and it's

  870. discouragement.

  871. Notice, notice book of Numbers 13. Turn

  872. here with me. All right, we're going to

  873. use our Bibles for just a minute.

  874. Numbers chapter 13.

    Numbers 13 chapter mention

  875. Numbers 13 verse 31.

    Numbers 13:31

  876. Numbers 13 verse 31. The Bible says,

    Numbers 13:31

  877. "But the men that went up with him,"

  878. that's speaking of Caleb and Joshua,

  879. "the men that went up with him said, "We

  880. be not able to go up against the people,

  881. for they are stronger than we." And they

  882. brought up an evil report of the land

  883. that they had searched unto the children

  884. of Israel, saying, "The land through

  885. which we have gone to search it is a

  886. land that eateth up the inhabitants

  887. thereof, and all the people that we saw

  888. in it are men of a great stature. And

  889. there we saw the giants, the sons of

  890. Anoch, which come of the giants, and we

  891. were in our own sight as grasshoppers,

  892. and so we were in their sight. And so 10

  893. of these spies, you know, there were 12

  894. that were sent over. 10 of them had an

  895. evil report. And what did they do? They

  896. come back and tell the entire nation,

  897. "All right, we're not going to be able

  898. to do it.

  899. There's no way that we can take the

  900. land. It's physically impossible. the

  901. land is going to bring destruction to us

  902. and our families. We cannot go in. But

  903. Moses and Joshua or Joshua and Caleb had

  904. a different report, didn't they? They

  905. said, "It's a it's a fruitful land. It's

  906. a land that flowth with milk and honey

  907. that God cares for. We be more than able

  908. to take it." That's what they said. And

  909. what happens because of that one event?

  910. The entire nation, chapter 14, Numbers,

  911. you can turn there and read it. They all

  912. began to weep because 10 of them had an

  913. evil report and only two of them had a

  914. good report.

  915. Let me ask you something. What's the

  916. church world look like today?

  917. >> Right.

  918. >> I don't know that the majority is 10 and

  919. two.

  920. I tell you this what I'm finding. The

  921. majority of people say it's it's done.

  922. It's done. So here's what happens. Okay,

  923. here's what happens. Because of the

  924. discouragement, they decide not to go

  925. in. God tells them Numbers 14, you can

  926. read it. Numbers chapter 14 and verse

    Numbers 14 chapter mention

  927. number 23, verse number 29 and verse

  928. number 30. You'll find out that the

  929. congregation was prohibited from seeing

  930. the land. They were not able to go into

  931. that land of Canaan of course

  932. representing the land of victorious

  933. living. And so they were not able to go

  934. in. They were prohibited from seeing the

  935. land. Then also the agents, the 10 men

  936. with an evil report, they died by a

  937. plague immediately. Numbers 14 verse

  938. number 37.

  939. They died immediately by plague. Why is

  940. that? Why did the children of Israel not

  941. get to see the land?

  942. Unbelief. Why did those men die by

  943. plague? Unbelief.

  944. What happens later on? They're in the

  945. wilderness. All of them is not going to

  946. get to see the land. Remind you this.

  947. Moses at this point in time is still

  948. able to go in. Numbers 14. Moses and

  949. Aaron are still going to be able to go

  950. in. What happens because of it? Numbers

  951. 20. They're murmuring again.

  952. I don't know what y'all got. There's

  953. about 25 people in here coughing. I

  954. think it's the devil. Amen.

  955. >> I'm not trying to pull anybody out.

  956. Don't Don't fall out with me. I'm I'm

  957. sorry. Forgive me for that.

  958. Numbers 20. All right. Numbers 20. Moses

  959. gets angry. What happens? God told him,

  960. "Speak to the rock." What does he do? He

  961. smites the rock. What happens? Water

  962. comes out. God says, "Moses, you and

  963. Aaron, you're not going to get to go

  964. in."

  965. >> Why did they Why did they not get to go

  966. in? Unbelief. Now, I want to ask you

  967. something. All right. All of those men

  968. died in the wilderness, never making it

  969. to the place where God wanted them to

  970. be. And really, according to what Jude

  971. says, they had apostasized.

  972. Why is that the case? because there was

  973. a group of men that had crept in.

  974. Numbers chapter 11 verse number four.

    Numbers 11 chapter mention

  975. You read it and the Bible calls them a

  976. mixed multitude. And what this mixed

  977. multitude does is spend their entire

  978. life in Israel subverting the children

  979. of Israel from faith.

  980. >> Right?

  981. >> Here's what happens. You've got a number

  982. of people who are lost. You've got a

  983. number of people who are saved. You even

  984. got leadership who are being led by the

  985. Lord. And every single one of them

  986. doesn't get to go in because of the

  987. discouragement of a mixed multitude.

  988. >> Good.

  989. >> So, what do you have in this day and

  990. time? Well, allow me to draw the

  991. parallel for just a minute. We've got a

  992. world that's controlled by Satan and

  993. he's sending his minions into the church

  994. by the droves.

  995. >> Amen.

  996. >> Good churches are being turned upside

  997. down all over the place because of

  998. people that are coming in and causing a

  999. mess.

1000. >> And here's the thing about it. Good

1001. churches are getting few and more few

1002. and more few and more few and so he just

  1003. has less targets. Right?

  1004. >> Okay.

1005. >> And so what's happening? The influx of

1006. the world into the church is causing the

1007. church to be defiled. That leadership it

1008. that's trying to lead the church in the

1009. right direction, but there's people out

1010. there subverting the hearer. And so

  1011. you've got a congregation that's

1012. disgruntled with the man of God.

1013. >> The man of God gets angry.

1014. >> What happens? the man of God, the

1015. church, and those people all die in

  1016. apostasy. You're

  1017. >> right.

1018. >> Verse five of Jude afterward destroyed

  1019. them that believe not.

1020. Now, you know tonight that some of their

1021. deaths were very bad. Those 10 men, God

1022. smoteed them with a plague. Done. the

1023. rest of them just had to live the rest

1024. of their life in misery knowing they

1025. were never going to make it. And the

1026. fact that their death was the only thing

1027. keeping the rest of their kids from

1028. going into the land. Wouldn't that have

  1029. been miserable?

1030. All of their children wandering around.

1031. Man, I wish we could go in. Won't you

1032. hurry up and die? I know that ain't the

1033. way it was, but you know what I'm

1034. saying. How miserable that must have

1035. been for them to just wait around to die

1036. so their children could go on and and

1037. possess what they refuse to believe in.

1038. And see, you know what happens in that

1039. text? Because they omitted to do God's

1040. will. Later on in Numbers 14, they

1041. decide, "All right, we've sinned against

1042. the Lord. Now we're going to go in." And

1043. what does Moses say? What are you doing?

1044. You can't go in now. And so their sin of

1045. omission led them to sin a sin of

1046. commission. And when they tried to go

  1047. in, God smoteed them.

  1048. >> You're right.

1049. >> They died. What I'm saying is apostasy.

1050. It has its root in lost people. But

1051. here's what happened. saved people fall

  1052. victim to it. You're

  1053. >> right.

1054. >> What you're going to find out in this

1055. chapter, you can read in the book of

1056. Peter, Lot was a victim of apostasy.

1057. He allowed the world, Peter said, to vex

  1058. his righteous soul

1059. >> with her unrighteous deeds.

1060. And so, what's the truth about this? All

1061. right. Moses and Aaron because of their

1062. disobedience did not get to enter into

  1063. the land. Numbers 20:12 and 13.

    Numbers 20:12

  1064. Deuteronomy:es

1065. 132-37. Go back and read that in your

1066. own time. Here's the truth about

  1067. apostasy tonight. Apostasy

  1068. brings death.

1069. >> All but two men went into the land of

  1070. Canaan

1071. because the rest of the nation fell

  1072. victim to apostasy.

1073. And the reason why preachers say we're

1074. living in the days of apostasy

1075. is because our churches, our good

  1076. churches are not apostasizing

1077. themselves, but we're falling victim.

  1078. That's right.

1079. >> To the ones that are.

1080. And this is what I would say from the

  1081. heart of a pastor.

1082. Watch, watch your family. Watch your

1083. children. Cuz verse four, he says, "For

1084. there are certain men crypt in

1085. unawares." Be careful what you let your

  1086. ear listen to.

  1087. >> If somebody's feeding you a bunch of

1088. garbage, a man, you turn it off. Don't

1089. use your ear for a trash can.

  1090. >> That's right.

1091. >> If it don't line up with that book right

1092. there, you just mark it off. You ain't

1093. got time to listen to that. There's

1094. enough bad influences in this world that

1095. we have to listen to because of our jobs

1096. and everything else. You don't have to

1097. bend your ear to somebody who is not

1098. going to speak the truth at the house of

1099. God. Amen. I'm just being honest with

1100. you, okay? And here's what's going to

1101. have to happen. Verse five, he said he

1102. destroyed them that believe not. He

1103. destroyed them because they believed

  1104. not.

1105. Unbelief brings apostasy and apostasy

1106. brings death. So be careful when the

1107. preacher preaches something and you say,

  1108. "Well, I just don't believe that."

  1109. >> Amen.

  1110. >> Unbelief brings apostasy.

  1111. Apostasy will

1112. every time bring death. You say, "Well,

1113. preacher, it ain't going to bring

1114. physical death in my life immediately."

1115. You're right. It might not. But I'll

1116. tell you this, it'll bring death to your

  1117. life in Christ.

  1118. >> You're right.

  1119. >> Because the moment you say, "I I just I

  1120. don't believe that. I don't see it that

1121. way. I don't believe that." You know

  1122. what you've done? You've cut yourself

  1123. off spiritually.

  1124. >> You're right.

1125. >> God will be merciful to you. I'm going

1126. to tell you, apostasy is a short road to

  1127. a very deep ditch.

1128. It is. You've heard it said, "There's

1129. ditches on both sides of the road." And

1130. there is and apostasy is the route to

  1131. get you there.

  1132. >> Both sides.

1133. Legalism and liberalism. Amen. We better

1134. tread lightly. Amen. I hope that helps

1135. you tonight. We'll look again on next

1136. week concerning that subject. Deal with

1137. the angels. I'm not looking forward to

1138. that, but we'll get there. Amen. Father,

1139. thank you for this time. Thank you for

1140. allowing us to study your word. God,

1141. help us to see what we Lord, help us to

1142. mark in this world. God, I know our our

1143. friends and our families, Lord, many of

1144. us, they're just flocking to this stuff.

1145. Whatever looks good, whatever feels

1146. good. Lord, help us to be different,

  1147. be set apart,

1148. not just not just bank on everything

1149. comes down the pipe. Lord, help us to

1150. just take your word and live it and be

1151. Christians and love you and serve you.

1152. Be what you want us to be. God, help us

1153. to identify the wolves. Help me as a

1154. pastor, Lord, to identify the wolves,

1155. Father, Lord, before they get the sheep.

1156. Lord, I pray you'd help us in these

1157. days. Keep us from falling away and keep

1158. us in your will. And we'll thank you for

1159. what you do because we ask it in Jesus

  1160. name. Amen.
