  7. Pastor Charlie Branch with a word from

  8. God.

  9. >> Amen. and take God's word tonight. If

  10. you will turn with me to the book of

  11. Matthew, Matthew, chapter number 18,

  12. Matthew, chapter number 18. You find

  13. your place you would stand.

  14. Matthew chapter number 18.

  15. Man, I'm telling you, it's just good to

  16. be on the right side of this thing.

  17. >> Amen.

  18. >> And uh

  19. >> I know where I'd be if for the grace of

  20. God.

  21. >> And uh he really has supplied every

  22. need.

  23. >> And

  24. >> I had somebody tell me one time, I said,

  25. "Preacher, you just ain't been far

  26. enough down the road. You don't know

  27. what you're going to have to face." I

  28. tell you what, I've been far enough to

  29. know you'll take care of me.

  30. >> Amen. And

  31. >> no matter what you face,

  32. no matter what it is,

  33. >> he's enough.

  34. >> He's enough.

  35. >> Boy, aren't you thankful for a Bible

  36. tonight?

  37. >> Amen.

  38. Bless his name. Matthew chapter number

  39. 18 verse number one

  40. the Bible says at the same time came the

  41. disciples unto Jesus saying who is the

  42. greatest in the kingdom of heaven Jesus

  43. called a little child unto him

  44. said him in the midst of them

  45. and said verily I say unto you except

  46. you be converted

  47. >> yes

  48. >> and become as little children

  49. >> yes

  50. >> ye shall not enter into the kingdom of

  51. heaven

  52. >> whosoever therefore shall humble himself

  53. myself as this little child, the same is

  54. greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And

  55. who shall whos so shall receive one such

  56. little child in my name receiveth me?

  57. But who so shall offend one of these

  58. little ones which believe in me? It were

  59. better for him that a millstone were

  60. hanged about his neck.

  61. >> That he were drowned in the depths of

  62. the sea.

  63. >> I want to look tonight and out on this

  64. thought verse number two. The Bible

  65. says, "And Jesus called a little child

  66. unto him and set him in the midst of

  67. them." And I want to I want to talk to

  68. you for just a little while. I preach on

  69. this thought, the children's gospel.

  70. >> The children's gospel. You say, "Well, I

  71. thought the gospel was for all, but it

  72. is. It is for all."

  73. >> But Jesus said, "Except you come as a

  74. little child."

  75. >> Right? Amen.

  76. >> So if you got saved, you know what you

  77. did?

  78. >> Come on.

  79. >> You came as a little child. Amen.

  80. I want to preach on that thought tonight

  81. with the help of the Lord. Father, thank

  82. you for allowing us to be here tonight.

  83. God, thank you for the spirit of praise

  84. and worship. Lord, we felt here tonight.

  85. Thank you for the good singing. And

  86. Lord, I thank you, God, that we have

  87. been blessed. Every need has been

  88. supplied. And Lord, it's worth every

  89. mile. God, I thank you. I bless your

  90. name tonight. I ask humbly that you

  91. would help us as we look at these verses

  92. tonight. Give us wisdom. Help us to

  93. receive with meekness the engrafted

  94. word. remove the flesh far from us.

  95. Speak to us and through us. Help us to

  96. recall to remembrance the things that

  97. we've studied. And and Lord, help us to

  98. say everything we ought to say, nothing

  99. that we ought not say and get glory to

  100. yourself tonight. We'll give you thanks

  101. for it because we ask it in Jesus name.

  102. God's children said you can be seated.

  103. Thank you for standing tonight. Matthew

  104. chapter number 18. The Bible here is

  105. dawning on the on the new day of

  106. Christ's advent. Now, we know the cross

  107. is quickly coming. Matthew chapter

  108. number 26, 27, and 28 reveal the last

  109. days of our Lord Jesus Christ. And so,

  110. after here, really over halfway through

  111. the book of Matthew, we have this text.

  112. And I was reading this, it jumped out

  113. all it jumped out to me. Verse number

  114. two, the Bible says that Jesus called a

  115. little child unto him. And I want to say

  116. this, just a simple thought before I get

  117. into the message tonight. And I want to

  118. say that when Jesus first time calls

  119. most time it's when you're a little

  120. child

  121. >> and I was thinking about my life. I got

  122. saved at 7 years old. God dealt with my

  123. heart. I remember it. My uh youth pastor

  124. the church we was in. He gave a little

  125. gospel invitation at Bible school and I

  126. remember be convicted and uh coming to

  127. the altar that night and asking the Lord

  128. to save me. I never been the same since

  129. then. And I was reading this text and I

  130. noticed some things here Jesus was

  131. dealing with his disciples about. And

  132. you notice in the text, the Bible

  133. mentions there in verse number one, you

  134. notice that first phrase at the same

  135. time. Now that always looks back to the

  136. previous chapter. It's connected here.

  137. And what you find in this text, notice

  138. this by way of introduction that there

  139. is a miracle previous to these verses

  140. tonight. Chapter 18 and verse number

  141. one. There is a miracle that is prior to

  142. this text. And you say, "What is that

  143. miracle?" Well, it's one that's not as

  144. well known in scripture, but it's one of

  145. great importance. And I want to say just

  146. a little bit about that tonight. This

  147. miracle, you notice in verse number 27,

  148. the Bible says Jesus instructs Simon

  149. Peter, notwithstanding, lest we should

  150. offend them, go thou to the sea, and

  151. cast unhook and take up the fish that

  152. first cometh up. And when thou hast

  153. opened his mouth, thou shalt find a

  154. piece of money that take and give unto

  155. them for me and thee. And to make a long

  156. story short tonight, basically what

  157. verse 27 is saying is exactly what those

  158. two ladies just sung about. They had a

  159. need. Peter had told those men that had

  160. come there in Capernium that Jesus would

  161. give the tribute money unto the temple.

  162. You notice that in verse 24, Jesus gives

  163. him the principle in verse number 25

  164. that he said, "Whom do the kings of the

  165. earth take custom or tribute of their

  166. own children or strangers?" Basically,

  167. in essence, what Jesus was saying was is

  168. that the temple will belong to him. And

  169. why should he pay tribute unto that

  170. temple? He he said, "Look, it's my

  171. house." Amen. It belongs to me. And when

  172. they're paying tribute unto that temple,

  173. what are they doing? They're paying

  174. tribute to him. Amen. But I notice the

  175. Bible says there's the provision in

  176. verse 27 after Jesus tells him, "Hey,

  177. the temple belongs to me and I I really

  178. don't have to pay tribute." Notice verse

  179. 27. Look what he said. Notwithstanding

  180. lest we should offend them. Go thou to

  181. the sea and cast unhook and take up the

  182. fish that first cometh up. What does he

  183. say? When thou opened his mouth, thou

  184. shalt find a piece of money. And you

  185. know what? In this text, Peter had

  186. gotten himself into a situation, but

  187. Jesus was going to get him out. Amen.

  188. And the Bible says that in that fish's

  189. mouth, he got that piece of money out,

  190. and it was enough to pay the tribute for

  191. him and Peter as well. And you say,

  192. "What's the emphasis of that?" Well,

  193. Jesus is emphasizing his kingship.

  194. >> You're right.

  195. >> You say, "How is that?" Well, notice the

  196. verse again. Verse 25. Whom do the kings

  197. of the earth take custom or tribute of

  198. their own children over strangers? Jesus

  199. is saying, "Hey, look, Peter, I'm the

  200. king. I'm the king."

  201. >> And you know what? This tribute that

  202. they're asking us to pay, Peter, that

  203. house belongs to me.

  204. >> You're right.

  205. >> They're paying tribute unto me. And you

  206. say, "Well, what's the emphasis of

  207. that?" Well, here in the text, you

  208. notice in verse number one of chapter

  209. number 18, there's not only a miracle

  210. previous, but there's also second of

  211. all, by way of introduction, there is

  212. the matter of position that arises in

  213. verse one. At the same time came the

  214. disciples unto Jesus, saying, who is the

  215. greatest in the kingdom of heaven? Now

  216. verse the chapter prior, Peter has just

  217. seen the fact that our Lord is the king.

  218. God has revealed it unto him again that

  219. he is alone is able to supply the need

  220. and he is going to provide what is

  221. needed for this instance that Peter has

  222. gotten him into. And as all the apostles

  223. are gathered around Peter in this text,

  224. they've seen what's taken place and in

  225. this conversation that they've had.

  226. They've been arguing amongst themselves

  227. who is the greatest. And let me say this

  228. to you tonight. You know what? We find

  229. ourselves in a place a lot of times

  230. where we're arguing about whether we're

  231. better or not than somebody else.

  232. >> That self-examination a lot of times we

  233. find ourselves comparing ourselves

  234. amongst ourselves

  235. >> when really the one we should be

  236. comparing ourselves to is the one that's

  237. the king. Amen. You notice in this text

  238. they got this question about who is the

  239. greatest. Well, let me just give it to

  240. you. It's the one that could call the

  241. fish in the sea that had the money in

  242. his mouth. Somebody say amen. It was not

  243. only the one it let me just say this.

  244. Okay, this gets away with me when I read

  245. this. Okay, the miracle is not so much

  246. that the money was in the fish's mouth,

  247. but the miracle is found that Jesus said

  248. you cast your line and the first one you

  249. hook.

  250. >> You're right.

  251. >> He said, Peter, the first one you reel

  252. in is the one that's got the tribute

  253. money in his mouth. And he said,

  254. "Furthermore, it's not just a piece of

  255. money, but it's the exact amount that's

  256. needed." Right?

  257. >> Anybody in the building tonight?

  258. >> Aren't you thankful for the times when

  259. God has just pointed out in your life,

  260. "Hey, the miracle is, hey son, I've got

  261. exactly what you need." You go right

  262. here and you can find it. Amen. Aren't

  263. you thankful for the days you get on the

  264. altar and the first prayer GETS IT DONE.

  265. AMEN. And it's not too much and it's not

  266. too little, BUT IT'S JUST EXACTLY WHAT

  267. YOU NEED. AMEN. It's reminding us THAT

  268. INSTEAD OF COMPARING OURSELVES AMONGST

  269. OURSELVES, we ought to just look to him.

  270. Amen.

  271. >> Right.

  272. >> You say, "What does that have to do with

  273. the children's gospel?" Well, you see,

  274. the disciples were still worried about

  275. who the greatest is.

  276. >> Right?

  277. >> And you know what? In our flesh tonight,

  278. we will compare ourselves amongst

  279. ourselves. Well, let me remind you in

  280. this text, okay, this question number

  281. one's legitimate. You say, "Why is

  282. that?" Well, Jesus has been preaching to

  283. them this entire time that he is a king,

  284. that he is the Messiah. And what has he

  285. told them? He has told them that they

  286. are going to be his governors. They're

  287. going to be the ones that rule under

  288. him. Matthew 19 verse number 14 tells

  289. that. And so, it's a legitimate question

  290. because there's a coming government. And

  291. these men are thinking to themselves,

  292. "Well, if he's going to be king and

  293. we're going to be the ones that rule

  294. under him, don't we need to figure out

  295. who's going to be first in command under

  296. him?"

  297. >> Yeah.

  298. >> Amen. Just get with me tonight. Amen.

  299. They're trying to figure out, all right,

  300. if he's going TO BE KING, WE got to get

  301. in line. We got to figure out who we

  302. going to have to answer to.

  303. >> You're right.

  304. >> Amen. But you know what? Jesus has got

  305. something else in mind.

  306. >> It's a legitimate question. But I'll say

  307. this, it's a leadership question. Who,

  308. notice it again, who is the greatest?

  309. That word greatest means the largest, of

  310. the most size, or have the most

  311. authority. They're saying, "All right,

  312. who is the one that has the most

  313. authority?" Now, we could talk about

  314. tonight the which one. Now, there's

  315. people that say, you know, these other

  316. uh sects of Christianity say that Peter

  317. is the chief, but we have no proof of

  318. that in the scriptures. And so what we

  319. know about them is what the Bible says

  320. in Matthew 19 uh in the chapter there.

  321. It says concerning Matthew 19:28. Notice

    Matthew 19:28

  322. what your Bible says. And Jesus said

  323. unto them, verily I say unto you that ye

  324. which have followed me in the re

  325. regeneration when the Son of man shall

  326. sit in the throne of his glory, ye also

  327. shall sit upon 12 thrones judging the 12

  328. tribes of Israel. And so if anything

  329. tonight, that would imply that they have

  330. equal authority. You're

  331. >> right. So they would have equal

  332. authority. But it's still a leadership

  333. question. They want to know which one is

  334. the best, which one is the greatest. And

  335. what it reveals to us though it is a

  336. legitimate question in the sense of the

  337. word and it is a leadership question.

  338. Who is the greatest? It reveals to us

  339. that it is a lustful question.

  340. >> Notice the verse again. Who is the

  341. greatest in the kingdom of heaven?

  342. >> Who's the one that's first? Now let me

  343. give it to you. Right? The greatest one

  344. in the kingdom of heaven is the king.

  345. >> Right?

  346. >> Amen. And the problem with this text is

  347. is that they're comparing theirelves

  348. amongst theirelves and they've got their

  349. focus off.

  350. >> You're right.

  351. >> You know the reason why some of you

  352. couldn't worship tonight during that

  353. singing

  354. >> cuz the focus is off.

  355. >> You're right.

  356. >> Amen. You're too worried about the one

  357. that's across the room from you. Amen.

  358. For whatever reason it is. You say,

  359. "Preacher, you don't know that." I

  360. don't. I hope there's nothing going on.

  361. But I'll tell you this tonight. The

  362. truth is the thing that hinders us from

  363. worship, the thing that hinders us from

  364. going forward with God is having our

  365. EYES EVERYWHERE ELSE BUT JESUS. AMEN.

  366. >> And I notice in this text there is the

  367. miracle that is previous. There is the

  368. matter of position. But I want to deal

  369. with this thought tonight and just give

  370. you a few things here and we'll be done

  371. just directly. I want you to consider

  372. with me and I use this phrase for sake

  373. of literation tonight but it makes this

  374. makes sense nonetheless. I want to talk

  375. about this message of posterity or

  376. message to posterity here and that

  377. simply means to the children to the

  378. offspring. Look what the Bible says in

  379. verse two. And Jesus called a little

  380. child unto him and set him in the midst

  381. of them. And let me say this on the

  382. precipice tonight. Verse number two is a

  383. great ev is a great picture of

  384. salvation.

  385. >> What's your Bible say? Number one,

  386. there's the call. Let me say it this

  387. way. Use a biblical term. It's an

  388. effectual call. Look what your Bible

  389. says. And Jesus called.

  390. >> Yeah.

  391. >> Now, don't hop out of your pew or

  392. nothing on that. Amen. But that's what

  393. happened when you got saved.

  394. >> Amen. Jesus called. Amen. And the Bible

  395. says, not only there's the call in the

  396. text, but there is the child. Notice

  397. what your Bible said. And Jesus called a

  398. little child unto him.

  399. >> You say, "Well, how does that type

  400. salvation?" Well, notice them two words

  401. after that. He called a little child.

  402. What's the next two words? Unto him.

  403. >> You're right.

  404. >> He's brought him unto himself. That's

  405. what happened to you in salvation. Amen.

  406. >> He's called him unto himself. AND I

  407. NOTICE THIS. Jesus has called this

  408. little child unto him. And notice what

  409. your Bible says. There's not only the

  410. call and the child, but there's the

  411. company. Look at the Bible. And set him

  412. in the midst of them. Now, who's he

  413. talking about? He's talking about them

  414. disciples,

  415. >> them apostles. LORD, WHO'S THE GREATEST

  416. in the kingdom of heaven?

  417. >> Jesus says, "Hey, boy."

  418. >> Yeah.

  419. >> Come here, man.

  420. >> Amen.

  421. >> You'll hook up with that about midnight

  422. tonight. Amen. Look what your Bible

  423. says. And Jesus called a little child

  424. unto him and set him in the midst of

  425. them. You say, "What does that have to

  426. do?" Well, number one, in my message

  427. tonight, there's Christ invitation.

  428. >> That's right.

  429. >> I'm talking about the children's gospel.

  430. >> Christ's invitation.

  431. Boy, I'm thankful tonight that Jesus

  432. don't need all our methods. You're

  433. >> right.

  434. >> He don't need our little wordless book.

  435. And I love that little thing. Amen. It's

  436. a handy tool for children leading them

  437. to the Lord. I'm not knocking it. Okay.

  438. But what I'm saying is is Jesus don't

  439. need all our tools. You're

  440. >> right.

  441. >> He don't need the little bracelets and

  442. he don't need the little books and all

  443. of that stuff. When Jesus calls and he

  444. knocks on their heart's door, amen, and

  445. they know it's him.

  446. >> Come on.

  447. >> His invitation's as clear as anything

  448. you'll ever hear. Oh friend, aren't you

  449. thankful for the night that Jesus said,

  450. "Come."

  451. >> Amen. You heard his voice. AMEN. YOU

  452. HEARD HIS VOICE AND THERE WAS NO

  453. QUESTION ABOUT WHO IT WAS. It was the

  454. Lord of glory, the lamb of God, GIVING

  455. YOU AN INVITATION, SAYING, "COME TO ME."

  456. AMEN. What was he coming for? Notice it

  457. in the text. The Bible says there in

  458. verse number two, "And Jesus called a

  459. little child unto him, and notice it

  460. again, and set him in the midst of

  461. them." Now, we've noted the company

  462. here, but what's the purpose? Why has

  463. Jesus done this? Bible says he set them

  464. in the midst. What is he doing? He's

  465. using him as an example.

  466. >> You're right.

  467. >> And the simplicity of this is beautiful.

  468. You say, "What is the simplicity

  469. expressing?" Well, Jesus spoke and what

  470. did he do? He obeyed.

  471. >> Right?

  472. >> You see, that is the emphasis of Christ

  473. in all the gospels.

  474. >> Yeah. When he speaks the word, we're to

  475. obey.

  476. >> You're right. That's right.

  477. >> When he tells when he tells us to have

  478. faith, you know what we're to do? We're

  479. to take that faith and allow it to

  480. function towards him.

  481. >> You're right. The

  482. >> Bible says faith without works is dead.

  483. And that's the truth.

  484. >> If you have real faith, it's going to

  485. express some works. This boy believed

  486. the word of Christ. He came to him.

  487. Amen. And so, we see the invitation in

  488. this text, this example. He is going to

  489. use him as an example to who? To those

  490. that are around him. Those disciples.

  491. Let me say this. Children are the

  492. greatest example of pure faith.

  493. >> You're right.

  494. >> When a child gets saved, you know what

  495. they'll do? They'll witness to people

  496. you wouldn't talk to.

  497. >> You're right.

  498. >> I've said this before at the church

  499. here, but I remember when I got saved as

  500. a seven-year-old boy. I remember my my

  501. grandparents, they don't believe like we

  502. do. They're primitive Baptists. Amen.

  503. They don't believe like we do. More of a

  504. hypercalvinist type. They don't believe

  505. you can know you're saved. They don't

  506. really believe in using the terminology

  507. salvation. They uh they really don't

  508. know what they believe just to be quite

  509. honest with you. But I remember that

  510. night that I got saved, I remember

  511. telling mom and daddy, I got to go tell

  512. Paul and Granny that I got saved.

  513. >> Amen.

  514. >> And mom and daddy as nice as they could.

  515. They were trying to tell me now it's all

  516. right. That we'll tell them. They'll

  517. know about it. And you know, they they

  518. didn't say exactly like it's been a long

  519. time ago to me. Amen. But but I remember

  520. them just telling me trying, you know,

  521. because they didn't want me to be

  522. discouraged. Yeah,

  523. >> but I remember it. I remember the day

  524. that I walked up in their house. It was

  525. fall of the year. Amen. School was just

  526. fixing to start back and the crops was

  527. turning brown. I remember just like it

  528. was yesterday. Walked up in her house.

  529. The leaves was blowing across and and I

  530. walked up in her house and I said,

  531. "Granny, I got saved." She just looked

  532. at me. She didn't know what to think.

  533. And and I remember that response

  534. thinking in my heart, I wonder what she

  535. what she why she don't respond to that.

  536. >> Yeah.

  537. >> But you know what? But it didn't change

  538. my joy any

  539. >> right.

  540. >> I saved.

  541. >> Amen.

  542. >> And I just want to tell somebody about

  543. it.

  544. >> You're right.

  545. >> Jesus uses him as an example in this

  546. text. Notice not only the invitation,

  547. but notice the instruction. And I'm

  548. going somewhere. Stay with me tonight.

  549. The Bible says in verse three, after he

  550. has set this young child in the midst of

  551. them, the Bible says, he said to them,

  552. verily I say unto you, except you be

  553. converted and become as little children,

  554. ye shall not enter into the kingdom of

  555. heaven. Now, we know tonight what I've

  556. used to application sense of the word

  557. Jesus has brought this child unto them.

  558. And he's not, you know, saying for him

  559. to come in essence to be saved, but you

  560. know the picture of what I'm saying

  561. tonight. What he is showing to them is

  562. is his innocence.

  563. >> Right?

  564. >> You know, that's something we've lost in

  565. this day and time. You're

  566. >> right,

  567. >> man. People in this day and time, there

  568. is no innocence.

  569. >> You're right.

  570. >> Of the mind, of the life, of anything.

  571. And so, what happens in this text? Jesus

  572. here is going to give them an

  573. instruction. What is his instruction?

  574. Well, he's given the invitation to make

  575. an example out of this young man. But

  576. he's g this he's going to give this

  577. instruction and it's and it's pending

  578. upon their entrance. What is their

  579. entrance? Look what he says. Ye shall

  580. not enter into the kingdom of heaven. He

  581. is saying unto them, boys, you're not

  582. going to have any part in what I want to

  583. do on this earth except you be converted

  584. and become as little children.

  585. >> Now, what does that mean? What does it

  586. mean be converted? That's not talking

  587. about salvation. What that word

  588. converted in this text means, it means

  589. to change direction.

  590. What was their direction? Well, what's

  591. verse one? Who's the greatest Lord?

  592. >> Remember what I said a little while ago?

  593. They had their eyes on the wrong thing.

  594. >> You're right.

  595. >> And you know what? What's the truth? If

  596. you got your eyes on the wrong thing,

  597. >> come on.

  598. >> You going to be headed the wrong

  599. direction.

  600. >> That's right.

  601. >> Right.

  602. >> Cuz where your eyes are pointed, that's

  603. where your feet's going to go. Amen. And

  604. so their direction needed to change.

  605. What is that? Well, instead of leading,

  606. they needed to be following.

  607. >> Oh, I see that so much in this damn

  608. time. People who are not willing to

  609. follow. Now, you say, "Preacher, well, I

  610. just I just don't want to follow my

  611. husband. I don't like the way that he's

  612. going." Well, here's what I'm seeing

  613. most of the time. All right. When a wife

  614. does not want to w want to follow her

  615. husband, most of the time it's because

  616. the man does not want to follow God.

  617. >> You're right. Amen.

  618. >> You're right. Come on.

  619. >> She has to respond to you, sir. I don't

  620. know why I'm on that, but it's just the

  621. truth. Amen. Many times, the reason why

  622. the wife will not follow the husband,

  623. it's not because of her. It's because

  624. that man is not willing to follow God.

  625. You're

  626. >> right.

  627. >> And the reason why the children won't

  628. follow the parents is because that

  629. marriage will not follow in the

  630. direction of the Lord. There is not

  631. proper authority. What does that mean?

  632. There has to be a change of direction.

  633. LOOK WHAT HE SAYS. EXCEPT you be

  634. converted.

  635. There's no clause there.

  636. >> Right?

  637. >> There's no uh exception to that rule.

  638. Except you be you're going to have to

  639. have a change of direction.

  640. >> Right?

  641. >> What is that? That's dying to the flesh.

  642. >> Notice not only there's a change of

  643. direction, but there's also a change of

  644. dependence. Notice the verse. He said,

  645. "Except you be converted," notice this,

  646. "and become as little children." What

  647. does that mean? What do we know about

  648. little children? They can't take care of

  649. themselves.

  650. >> You're right.

  651. >> Somebody else has to supply their need.

  652. Somebody else has to take them where

  653. they're going.

  654. >> You're right.

  655. >> Somebody else has to feed their tummy.

  656. Amen. And change their diaper. Somebody

  657. say amen right there. Somebody else is

  658. responsible for their life.

  659. >> You're right.

  660. >> You say, "What does that mean,

  661. preacher?" Well, he said, "Except you be

  662. converted, you got to change direction.

  663. You got to learn to follow. But you got

  664. to change your dependence."

  665. >> What were they dependent on? The flesh.

  666. >> Who's the greatest? Jesus measure. LET'S

  667. SIZE US UP. LET'S PUT US ON the pyramid

  668. and let's see who's the greatest.

  669. But you know what? That really all it

  670. doesn't really matter

  671. because there's only one.

  672. >> Amen.

  673. >> You're right.

  674. >> And he says in the text, he says,

  675. "Except you be converted and become as

  676. little children." I like what John

  677. Phillips said. He said this. He said,

  678. "This does not mean that we're to be

  679. childish.

  680. We're but we're to be childlike."

  681. What does that mean? Well, we're not to

  682. to whine and and and you do do all the

  683. things that children do. Amen. That's

  684. not what it is. But we're to have a

  685. childlike trust.

  686. >> You're right.

  687. >> A reliance upon God. It's faith. It's

  688. following. It's based upon the father.

  689. You say, "What does he mean by that?"

  690. that well to illustrate another way if

  691. we're you know what do you mean by

  692. saying that we're not to be childish

  693. well that's our attitude our mannerisms

  694. the way that we live

  695. >> you're right

  696. >> he's not saying that we're to be as a

  697. child in the way that we live but we're

  698. to be as a child in our trust in our

  699. dependence just as a child will depend

  700. upon their parents to raise them and to

  701. supply their needs and to put a roof

  702. over their head and do all the things

  703. that children have to have because they

  704. cannot do it for themselves. Jesus is

  705. saying except you be converted and

  706. become as little children, what does he

  707. say? You cannot enter

  708. >> into the kingdom of heaven.

  709. >> You're right.

  710. >> You have no entrance. You have no

  711. operation in my plan. I see people that

  712. want to serve in the work of God, but

  713. they have no submission to the things of

  714. God. I see people that have a a seeming

  715. desire to do things for God, but there

  716. is no submission. There's no dependence.

  717. their the entirety of their life is

  718. founded upon themselves.

  719. Notice the text. There is the

  720. instruction in verse three. Except you

  721. be converted and become as little

  722. children, you shall not enter into the

  723. kingdom of heaven. Verse four, there's

  724. not only the invitation and the

  725. instruction, but consider the

  726. inspiration here. Whosoever therefore

  727. shall humble himself as this little

  728. child. Notice that as this little child.

  729. How did he humble himself? Well, he was

  730. obedient to the voice of the Lord.

  731. >> Right. Right. You see the emphasis of

  732. our life and really the effectiveness of

  733. our of our life is only upon one thing.

  734. How willing are we to listen?

  735. >> That's good.

  736. >> How willing are you to listen to the

  737. voice of God? Look what he says again in

  738. the verse. He said, "Whosoever therefore

  739. shall humble himself as this little

  740. child, the same is greatest in the

  741. kingdom of heaven." Say, "What does that

  742. mean for me, preacher?" Well, the

  743. inspiration is this, that excellence is

  744. defined by one thing. How much are you

  745. willing to let go of to depend on God?

  746. >> Come on.

  747. >> What is the truth about a child? They

  748. have no ability to provide for

  749. themselves. You're

  750. >> right.

  751. >> They have no plans of their own. You

  752. know, the only plan they have is what

  753. mom and daddy's doing.

  754. >> You're right.

  755. >> They're going to eat where mom and daddy

  756. goes. They're going to walk where mom

  757. and daddy walks.

  758. >> They're going to live where mom and

  759. daddy lives. They're going to do what

  760. mom and daddy does.

  761. >> You're right.

  762. >> You know why that is? is cuz they're a

  763. child.

  764. What was Jesus saying? He said, "If you

  765. want to be great, if you want to be the

  766. greatest," he said, "you going to have

  767. to turn it all over to me."

  768. >> You're right.

  769. >> And who's he? He's the king. Right.

  770. >> Amen.

  771. >> Excellence is determined not on what we

  772. do, but what we depend on God for.

  773. >> You're right.

  774. >> Now, I've heard people say this,

  775. preacher, you know, and I've even said

  776. this myself. You know, you know, God,

  777. he's he's given me a work ethic. You

  778. know, I'm going to do my best to provide

  779. and you ought to. Amen. The Bible says,

  780. "If any man provide not for his own,

  781. he's worse than an infidel."

  782. >> Right?

  783. >> That's scripture. But the truth is

  784. tonight, when your dependence upon

  785. yourself overrides your dependence upon

  786. God, you're in a bad place.

  787. >> What happens? Your direction is turned.

  788. >> Amen.

  789. >> It's good preaching tonight.

  790. >> Notice this. I'm done. There's the

  791. inspiration in verse four. Whosoever

  792. therefore shall humble himself. I don't

  793. know about you, if there's anything what

  794. I think of in this text, I just want to

  795. turn it all over.

  796. >> Right,

  797. >> God? If it means I can be the greatest

  798. for you.

  799. >> Come on.

  800. >> If I can be what you want me to be, if I

  801. just lay it all at your feet, Lord, I'll

  802. give it to you.

  803. >> Lord, I ain't got nothing anyway.

  804. >> Amen. That's right.

  805. >> That ought to inspire you. That ought to

  806. make you want to give it all to you.

  807. >> Cuz you know what? He will meet every

  808. need.

  809. >> You're right.

  810. >> Notice this. There's the indication in

  811. verse number five. Who so shall receive

  812. one such little child in my name

  813. receiveth me? What is this saying? Well,

  814. Jesus is saying if a man or a woman

  815. receives a little child in the name of

  816. Christ, what is he saying? He's bringing

  817. Jesus

  818. unto himself. You remember what Jesus

  819. said, Matthew 25 there, judgment of the

  820. sheep and the goats. Bible says the

  821. goats, you know, and the sheep, he he

  822. has them all stand before him and Jesus

  823. judged them. He's there on the throne.

  824. It's the last judgment there on this

  825. earth. And he separates the sheep from

  826. the goats by one thing. What does he

  827. separate it by? Their treatment of

  828. Israel.

  829. He said, "In as much as you have done it

  830. to the children of this my people," he

  831. said, 'You've done it unto what? Me.

  832. >> You're right.

  833. >> That'll change your mind on this

  834. anti-semitic culture we're living in

  835. today.

  836. >> I know Israel ain't what she's supposed

  837. to be, but let's be honest about it. Has

  838. she ever been?

  839. >> You're right.

  840. >> When David, the greatest king they ever

  841. had, was there, it was full of

  842. fornication and adultery.

  843. >> You're right.

  844. >> Israel's never been what she should be.

  845. But I'll tell you this, he's coming

  846. today when she will be. Amen. And the

  847. indication is this. Notice it in the

  848. text. When you receive those children,

  849. you say, "Preacher, why are you so

  850. interested in the Good News Club?" I

  851. know this is Jewish ground in this text.

  852. But let me say to you, the truth rings

  853. true the same. It's still right to reach

  854. the children. Amen. Because if you can

  855. reach them before the world reaches

  856. them, if you can reach them before the

  857. devil reaches them, if you can reach

  858. them before their flesh gets a HOLD OF

  859. THEM, YOU CAN HAVE SOMETHING IN THEIR

  860. LIFE THAT WILL STAY WITH THEM FOREVER.

  861. AMEN. AMEN.

  862. >> He said, "If you'll receive a little

  863. child,"

  864. >> he said, "In my name, you receive me."

  865. So much more I could say about this. I

  866. just need to be done. Feel the Holy

  867. Ghost say, "Be done." Verse six, notice

  868. this. But who so shall offend one of

  869. these little ones which believe in me.

  870. Notice that. Notice that that that

  871. emphasis which believe in me. Verse

  872. five, little child in my name. All of

  873. this has to do with Christ in their

  874. life.

  875. >> You're right.

  876. >> And let me remind you this, okay? I've

  877. seen people adopt this mindset. Well,

  878. you know, I'm going to adopt children,

  879. you know, cuz I believe it's the right

  880. thing to do. Now, that's good. But has

  881. God told you to do that?

  882. >> That's good.

  883. >> Cuz this text right here is founded upon

  884. the truth where Christ is first.

  885. >> That's right.

  886. >> He's first. And these children, this

  887. text, he said, "Whosoever shall receive

  888. one such little child of my name

  889. receiveth me." Verse six, "Whosoever

  890. shall offend one of these little ones

  891. which believe in me." And that's not

  892. talking about just physical young

  893. children. That's talking about spiritual

  894. young children.

  895. >> It were better for him that a millstone

  896. were hanged about his neck and that he

  897. were drowned in the depth of the sea.

  898. This injunction here he gives is that

  899. there is execution for those that hinder

  900. the children.

  901. >> You're right,

  902. >> man. I tell you, I'd be scared to death

  903. as a preacher.

  904. >> Yes. Come on.

  905. >> To hinder a child.

  906. >> Amen.

  907. >> I hinder a literal child from being

  908. saved. I'd be I'd be scared to death to

  909. hinder somebody who's young in the faith

  910. >> from really knowing God.

  911. >> I was thinking about this today. I I'll

  912. say this and I'm done. This this this

  913. position here, this idea that we need to

  914. be converted, we need to change our

  915. direction. We need to become as

  916. children, we need to change our

  917. dependence, really if you look at that

  918. in every part of our life, that would

  919. completely change who we are.

  920. >> You're right.

  921. >> That would change the job. That would

  922. change the home.

  923. >> Yeah. That would change the marriage.

  924. >> And I can tell you friend, it sure

  925. changed the church.

  926. >> You're right.

  927. >> Not relying on our methods, not relying

  928. on our means, not relying on anything

  929. that we have other than just saying,

  930. "God, if you don't do it,

  931. >> Lord, point us in the right direction."

  932. You know, Bible says children are

  933. arrows.

  934. What are they meant to They're meant to

  935. be pointed in the right direction and

  936. shot. You get one chance.

  937. >> That's right. Amen. one chance.

  938. >> You say, "What does this have to do with

  939. me tonight, preacher?" Well, let me ask

  940. you, where are you?

  941. Are you the disciples that are standing

  942. around? Behold, I was thinking about

  943. this up here just a minute ago. All

  944. these young ladies was singing right

  945. here. And they was singing their heart

  946. out.

  947. >> You're right.

  948. >> Singing to the top of their lungs. And

  949. I'll be honest with you, you say,

  950. "Preacher, do they know what they're

  951. singing about?" Probably not everything.

  952. But I'll tell you this, they know who

  953. they're SINGING TO. AMEN. THEY KNOW WHO

  954. THEY'RE SINGING FOR. I KNOW THEY AIN'T

  955. GOT IT ALL FIGURED OUT. BUT LET ME TELL

  956. YOU, THERE'S BEEN MANY A DAYS I GET UP

  957. AND SING JUST CUZ I HAVE TO, not because

  958. I want to, BUT I JUST KNOW I HAVE TO.

  959. AMEN. But aren't you thankful for those

  960. LITTLE CHILDREN THAT'LL JUST SERVE GOD

  961. AND JUST SING HIS PRAISES? AMEN. AND

  962. LET'S STOP STANDING AROUND AND LOOKING

  963. AT THEM, BUT LET'S GET IN THERE WITH

  964. THEM. AMEN. AND WORSHIP AND BLESS HIS

  965. NAME BECAUSE HE'S WORTHY. AND IF WE

  966. DON'T, YOU KNOW WHAT? YOU'LL FIND later

  967. on in life, they'll forget it. You're

  968. right. Amen.

  969. >> Because the gospel is a gospel to

  970. children.

  971. >> You're right.

  972. >> We're all children.

  973. >> That belong to God.

  974. >> Amen.

  975. >> Let me say this. It do some of us well

  976. to quit trying to put our big bridges

  977. on.

  978. >> Amen. You know that's right.

  979. >> Let God handle it.

  980. >> Amen. That's

  981. >> right.

  982. >> Let him handle it. Amen. Put it in his

  983. hands. Say, "Lord, I'm willing to change

  984. my direction."

  985. >> Amen.

  986. >> You may feel like you're going right,

  987. but you know, the Bible says there is a

  988. way that seemth right unto a man. You're

  989. >> right.

  990. >> But the end thereof is the ways of

  991. destruction. Let put your hand in his

  992. and say, "Lord, take me."

  993. >> Just like that little child. Well, I was

  994. thinking about that the other day.

  995. Case walked up to me and grabbed my

  996. hand. I started walking down the road

  997. and he was holding my hand. You know

  998. what I was doing? I was keeping him from

  999. all them cars that was going up and down

1000. the road, things that might harm him. He

1001. don't know how dangerous it is, but I

1002. do. And you know, he was holding my hand

1003. because he needed me to get him from

1004. where he was to where he WAS GOING.

1005. SOMEBODY SAY, "AMEN." I'M SAYING, "THANK

1006. GOD THAT HEY, FRIEND, JUST LIKE HIM WITH

1007. ME. I CAN REACH MY HAND TO MY HEAVENLY

  1008. FATHER. I DON'T KNOW WHERE I'M GOING. I

1009. KNOW I'M GOING TO HEAVEN." AMEN. BUT IN

  1010. THIS LIFE, I DON'T KNOW WHERE HE'S GOING

1011. TO TAKE ME. OH, BUT HE KNOWS WHERE I'm

1012. going. AMEN. HE KNOWS THE WAY THAT I

1013. TAKE. ALL FRIEND. HE'LL LEAD US THERE.

1014. HE'LL GET US THERE. PUT YOUR HAND IN HIS

1015. AND SAY, "LORD, LET'S GO." AMEN.

1016. >> Every head bowed and every eye closed

1017. tonight. I know we've all come and

1018. prayed tonight, but maybe you need to

1019. come again. I don't know. Just mind the

  1020. Lord tonight.

1021. I'm thankful tonight that he'll get you

  1022. where you're going.

1023. He knows where you need to be.

1024. He'll get you in the right place.

1025. He'll protect you. He'll take care of

  1026. you.

1027. He said except you be converted. Got to

  1028. change your direction

1029. and become his little children.

1030. Is a good day in my life. I doubted my

  1031. salvation for years.

  1032. I didn't say enough, didn't do enough.

1033. My works now I just there ain't no way I

1034. could be saved and live and struggle

1035. with the things that I struggle with.

1036. And what I had to realize one day was

1037. that the struggle's the same.

1038. >> But now it just breaks my heart cuz the

1039. Holy Ghost on the inside ain't want

1040. don't want me to live that way no more.

1041. >> He don't want me to live in sin, walk in

1042. my flesh. And it would break my heart

1043. when I would sin, Lord. And I'd say,

1044. Lord, AM I REALLY SAVED, LORD, DO I

  1045. BELONG to you?

1046. And every time I would ask him that, he

  1047. would speak.

1048. Say, "Child, just get back on my path.

1049. Just take my hand again."

1050. I believe that songwriter was

  1051. right when

1052. he wrote, "Come thou found of every

1053. blessing. Tune my heart to sing thy

1054. praise." That one verse he said this,

  1055. "Prone to wonder,

1056. Lord, I feel it. Prone to leave the God

  1057. I love. Lord, here's my heart.

  1058. Take and seal it,

1059. Lord, cuz I'd lose it, Lord. Here's my

1060. heart. Take and seal it. Seal it for thy

  1061. corpse above.

1062. Hey, child of God. He'll get you there.

1063. But take his hand. Take his hand. Trust

1064. his heart. He'll get you there. No, it

1065. don't look good right now, but he's

1066. able, oh friend, he's able TO DO

1067. EXCEEDINGLY ABUNDANTLY ABOVE ALL THAT WE

  1068. ASK OR THINK.

1069. >> AMEN. He can fix it. HE CAN HELP IT. NO,

1070. IT MAY NOT BE THE WAY OR THE TIME THAT

1071. YOU WANT IT TO, BUT GOD IS ABLE. HE WILL

1072. DO IT. HE'LL DO IT EVERY TIME. AMEN.

1073. >> And he loves you tonight. Father, thank

  1074. you.

1075. Thank you for this day,

  1076. for your sweet spirit,

1077. and Lord, for the truth of the

  1078. children's gospel.

1079. Lord, that if we're going to live for

  1080. you,

1081. just like little children that can't

  1082. prepare their own meals,

  1083. can't feed themselves,

1084. can't do anything, Father, for ourselves

1085. other than just take your hand and

1086. follow you. God, would you help us to do

  1087. that?

1088. Lord, we know we're incapable, Father,

1089. but you're able to do all things.

1090. And Lord, you said in your word, Paul

1091. said, "I can do all things through

1092. Christ which strengthenth me." And so

1093. God, I pray you would help us, Lord, in

  1094. childlike trust.

1095. Lord, change our direction, get our

1096. dependence right. And Lord, I know then,

1097. Father, we'll see a divine work done in

1098. our lives. I thank you, God, for the

1099. sweet spirit tonight. Thank you for your

1100. presence, Lord, and for whatever needs

1101. your present. I pray nobody leave this

1102. place without having it met before it's

1103. too late. Lord, I love you. Thank you

1104. for loving us. We ask it all in Jesus'

  1105. name. God's children said,

  1106. >> "Amen."

  1107. >> Amen. Well,
