  86. Amen. Amen. Now for our pledges for

  87. tonight.

  88. First, the American flag.

  89. Attention. Salute. Pledge. I pledge

  90. allegiance to the flag of the United

  91. States of America and to the republic

  92. for which it stands, one nation under

  93. God, indivisible, with liberty and

  94. justice for all.

  95. Now, the Christian flag.

  96. I pledge allegiance to the Christian

  97. flag and to the Savior for whose kingdom

  98. it stands. One savior crucified, risen,

  99. and coming again with life and liberty

  100. to all who believe.

  101. And now the Bible.

  102. I pledge allegiance to the Bible, God's

  103. holy word. I will make it a lamp unto my

  104. feet and a light unto my path. I will

  105. hide his words in my heart that I might

  106. not sin against God. Amen. Amen. You may

  107. be seated.

  108. Amen.

  109. >> Amen. Well, good evening everybody. Good

  110. to see you in the house of the Lord

  111. tonight. Appreciate you being here uh

  112. for our Wednesday evening Bible study.

  113. And boy, ain't the Lord good to us.

  114. Amen. And I appreciate him allowing us

  115. to be back here safely again this

  116. evening. Trust you've had a good week

  117. thus far. And I hope you get a blessing

  118. tonight. Hope you come expecting a

  119. blessing. And I hope you've come to

  120. bring a blessing. Amen. And we ought to

  121. come expect them, but we also come to uh

  122. to help the service. Amen. And I do

  123. appreciate you being here this evening.

  124. Just a couple of announcements and we'll

  125. get into a prayer request time this

  126. evening. Uh do remember coming up on

  127. Sunday. Uh Sunday there is the the

  128. birthday party for Miss Camry from 3:00

  129. to 5:00 on Sunday. And I do appreciate

  130. y'all putting that together. Thank you

  131. for that very much. And I'm looking

  132. forward to it. Man, I'm thankful I got a

  133. place to raise my children.

  134. >> Amen. And I appreciate that very much.

  135. Do remember service on Sunday and we'll

  136. have Sunday school and preaching and

  137. then we'll have a evening service just

  138. like we always do. Be praying about that

  139. and be praying about all our dates

  140. coming up this month. Of course, we'll

  141. have visitation uh the end of the month

  142. at last Saturday, the 25th I think it

  143. is. And so remember that. We'll go out

  144. knock on some doors and then remember if

  145. you would please uh next month got

  146. several different things. Make sure you

  147. stay up with your calendar far as next

  148. month goes and help me pray about this.

  149. Um we've the next meeting we have

  150. scheduled. Um brother Alan Barker will

  151. be here with us on a Sunday uh in the

  152. month of July. And I'd really would like

  153. to have a a youth meeting something

  154. coming out of school. It's been on my

  155. heart for some time but I haven't got

  156. any direction on who to get for that and

  157. when to do it. So, help me pray about

  158. that and we'll get that in the works

  159. here real soon. Um, but we will have

  160. brother Gary Crips going to be here with

  161. us. I believe it's the last week of

  162. August and he'll be here with us

  163. preaching missions conference and he'll

  164. be with us from Sunday morning to

  165. Wednesday night. And uh last time he was

  166. here only the men got to hear him

  167. preach. And so I'm excited about

  168. everybody getting to hear him preach.

  169. He's a gentleman and a great preacher

  170. and I'm looking forward to having him

  171. back here with us again. And then I

  172. don't know if I let you know this um but

  173. our jubilee this year um brother Jarvis,

  174. brother Robert Jarvis preached the first

  175. revival meeting uh as when I became

  176. pastor here preached for us that

  177. November um he's going to be back with

  178. us. And then brother Barry Rackley is

  179. going to be here preaching um Jubilee

  180. this year in November. And so this is

  181. going to be great meetings coming up and

  182. I'm excited about it. Looking forward to

  183. it and still praying about actually I do

  184. know who's preaching the first part of

  185. the week. Brother Michael Lindsay. I

  186. almost forgot that. But Brother Lindsay

  187. is going to be preaching Monday through

  188. Wednesday night. And those of you that

  189. went with us up there to uh uh Tennessee

  190. found out just how good of a preacher he

  191. is. Amen. And he's a blessing. I'm

  192. looking forward to that. So he'll be

  193. here with us that Monday through

  194. Wednesday in November. And then brother

  195. Rackley and brother Jarvis will be with

  196. us on Thursday and Friday. And I'm

  197. looking forward to it. So remember that.

  198. And then we will have a missionary with

  199. us. And I think that's this coming

  200. Sunday night. This Sunday night will be

  201. the 19th. And uh let me make sure I got

  202. that right. Yes, the 19th. He'll be here

  203. with us in the evening service. So

  204. remember that on Sunday evening. All

  205. right. And then we got several other

  206. things coming up. Like I said, the month

  207. of of May and then into June. So

  208. remember that. And then do remember

  209. this. Let me make mention of this before

  210. I forget. Um junior camp registration

  211. that's still open. And if you get those

  212. filled out, amen, for your junior, get

  213. those to brother Matt and sister Melissa

  214. and they're going to take the teen or

  215. the juniors there um to Gospelite camp

  216. in Hillsville. And so remember that

  217. that'll be here just before you know it.

  218. All right. And I do appreciate it very

  219. much this evening. Prayer request

  220. tonight. This is where we need to get

  221. to. Several things um I want to make

  222. mention of this evening. I want to say

  223. first of all tonight um let's continue

  224. to pray um for uh sister Don and brother

  225. Eric. Good to see them here with us

  226. tonight. And I do appreciate them very

  227. much. And I know they would speak. Um

  228. but don't have much words right now.

  229. It's what brother Eric said a while ago.

  230. And so y'all continue to pray pray for

  231. them. And we can't imagine that type of

  232. hurt. Um the pain that that is. And you

  233. pray that God would help them. Amen. And

  234. we've talked this week and I'm praying

  235. that God will bless them. You know, the

  236. thing about this life is we really don't

  237. know what tomorrow holds. And uh let me

  238. tell you something. Parents and children

  239. um love your parents. Parents love on

  240. your children. Uh you just don't know.

  241. >> You really don't know. And let's

  242. continue to pray. Pray for them. Pray

  243. for John as well for his safety and for

  244. God to deal with his heart. Amen. And

  245. pray for that situation. If y'all would

  246. please uh remember um brother Doug, Miss

  247. Sabrina tonight know sent out a message

  248. uh on the church uh group message about

  249. her mother. Um that situation is a very

  250. very desperate situation and uh if y'all

  251. would please pray for Miss Sabrina. Um a

  252. lot of lot of pain involved um with that

  253. relationship. Not not for her but um

  254. just a lifetime different things and and

  255. I'm sure she'll tell you about that

  256. sometime. But um just pray for them

  257. during this time. Um she was uh in a um

  258. care home um with Alzheimer's and that

  259. was basically what led to her um going

  260. down that far. She told me uh earlier

  261. this week that she coded um at some

  262. point last week [snorts] and then she

  263. was in the hospital and then out of that

  264. they moved her to Joan Howard Waltz

  265. Hospice Care in Dobson. And so if y'all

  266. would please pray for them uh during

  267. this time. And I'll tell you this, if

  268. you've been around them any bit since

  269. they have been here, you know just how

  270. much of a blessing they are. And uh most

  271. encouraging people I think I've probably

  272. ever been around in my life. Sweet

  273. spirit and love God. And so let's pray

  274. for them during this time. Pray that God

  275. would be with them and pray that God

  276. would touch them. Then I'll say this

  277. tonight. We got some news today. I can't

  278. really say a whole lot about it, but

  279. let's let's pray for um Brother Donnie

  280. Abbott and Miss Sarah Joe. Um brother

  281. Donnie is not doing well at all. Um his

  282. health is is okay, but he's he's getting

  283. his mind is not well and he's just not

  284. doing good. Not doing good at all. And

  285. so let's let's please pray for them uh

  286. this evening if we could please. And

  287. let's continue. Remember these other

  288. requests to prayer. Got several tonight.

  289. I'll let you give updates um on each

  290. situation as we come to that. But let's

  291. pray for each other. Amen. Let me say

  292. this to us, church, before we go any

  293. further. Prayer requests. Stay in your

  294. Bible.

  295. >> Amen.

  296. >> And uh and you say, "Why do you say that

  297. first?" Well, I'll tell you this. If

  298. you'll stay in your Bible, you'll stay

  299. in prayer.

  300. >> And uh I think a lot of times the reason

  301. we neglect prayer sometimes because

  302. we're not reading his word. When we go

  303. to his word, you know what it does? It

  304. drives us to pray. Amen. James talks

  305. about that man beholding his face in a

  306. glass. Said that word, he said that's

  307. what caused you. He said, "You got to be

  308. a hearer, but you also got to be a

  309. doer." And if you're going to be a doer

  310. of the word, that means to pray. And so,

  311. stay in your Bible and stay on your

  312. knees in these days and pray that God

  313. would help us. Um, but I wonder if

  314. anybody have a special request of prayer

  315. tonight or maybe an update, maybe a

  316. praise tonight. I don't know. Let's just

  317. take time for that this evening.

  318. Yes, ma'am.

  319. Amen. Let's remember that tonight.

  320. Someone else.

  321. >> Yes, ma'am.

  322. >> All right.

  323. Must remember brother Paul in prayer and

  324. look what you told me on Sunday. They're

  325. sort of unsure the extent of blockages.

  326. they don't really know. So, let's

  327. remember that. Pray for them. And let's

  328. remember Miss Rhonda Southern as well.

  329. Um, you saw the message today. I've not

  330. been able to get a hold of her. Um, but

  331. y'all pray for her. Pray for her

  332. especially during this time and her

  333. family and pray God be with them if you

  334. would please. Someone else tonight.

  335. >> Yes, ma'am.

  336. Okay.

  337. >> All right. You got a place for him to

  338. go, sister.

  339. >> Yeah.

  340. >> All right. Let's remember that.

  341. >> Yeah.

  342. >> I'm not going to be so good.

  343. >> Yeah. Yeah. Let's pray.

  344. >> I won't take family to be in a good

  345. church.

  346. >> Amen.

  347. >> I just want to be a good church.

  348. >> And I don't know just all young people,

  349. but

  350. He just thinks he lives just as good as

  351. Christians.

  352. >> Yeah.

  353. Yeah. Let's remember that. Pray about

  354. that tonight. He's been on my heart

  355. since I came down here. And let's pray.

  356. Pray for him this evening. That family

  357. and then those young ones, too. Pray for

  358. those babies. Amen.

  359. someone else tonight.

  360. Yes, ma'am.

  361. All right, let's remember that request

  362. of prayer this evening. Let's remember

  363. that. Brother Rick, you got something?

  364. >> You say Earl

  365. >> Arnold.

  366. Remember that.

  367. Yes, ma'am.

  368. Yeah. Yeah. Let's remember that this

  369. evening. Do pray about that tonight.

  370. Amen. Someone else this evening. Yes,

  371. ma'am. Pray for

  372. We got four

  373. safety back

  374. on Thursday.

  375. And what else? I don't know. They're not

  376. going to open her up. They said they'll

  377. see more places on her list.

  378. But when they do this, that means I got

  379. to go back to Tennessee and be there.

  380. Okay, let's remember that. Request a

  381. prayer. We'll pray about that. Amen.

  382. Just remember that this evening. And

  383. have they killed anything?

  384. >> No.

  385. >> I'm going to wear him out.

  386. I'm going to wear him out. I know a man

  387. this church walked off his back porch

  388. just right over the ridge and killed two

  389. the other day. And he he here he has

  390. traveled 5 hours away and can't kill

  391. nothing. So anyway, I'm going to wear

  392. him out when he gets back. But uh I hope

  393. you're watching, brother. That's what I

  394. hope. Amen. Amen. I bless his heart.

  395. I'll just pick on him. Hey, he'll take

  396. it. Amen. Some of y'all can't take it.

  397. Amen. But he can't. Amen. Oh gosh,

  398. that's funny. Do what?

  399. >> Yeah. Oh goodness. Bless his heart. I

  400. wouldn't pour salt in a wound, but his I

  401. would. [laughter]

  402. Oh Lord. No. Y'all pray for him. Pray

  403. for him. That's traveling back and all

  404. of that, too. So remember that. Someone

  405. else tonight before we pray.

  406. >> Yes, ma'am.

  407. >> Okay.

  408. also.

  409. >> Okay.

  410. I remember that.

  411. Just remember that this evening.

  412. Just remember Jesse, too. Remember that.

  413. >> Yes.

  414. Yes. Let's remember that. And uh

  415. we all got lost loved ones tonight that

  416. we can think of and uh pray God will get

  417. them in here. I tell you, the spirit has

  418. moved in this place um last few months

  419. and I've enjoyed it. I'm thankful for

  420. it. Um, but what we're seeing is is

  421. people are becoming increasingly

  422. hardened to that conviction and we need

  423. to pray that God would help us during

  424. these days and pray that God would allow

  425. that conviction to continue. I don't

  426. think that it's got anything to do with

  427. him not convicting enough. I think when

  428. conviction settles in, they've got to

  429. make one or two choices. They either

  430. going to have to go to him or they going

  431. to go away from him. And I just feel

  432. like people are walking away. And uh,

  433. let's pray about that. Pray about that.

  434. I think that's a lot of the trouble we

  435. deal with these days. People are just

  436. lost,

  437. >> right?

  438. >> And you say, "Well, they've been in

  439. church your whole life." It

  440. >> it don't. I mean, it really don't. And

  441. well, they they've made three or four

  442. professions. Well,

  443. I'm just, you know, we need to pray for

  444. them. Amen. Pray for them. Pray that God

  445. will help them these days. Amen. Someone

  446. else tonight before we pray.

  447. >> Yep.

  448. uh

  449. >> I I saw that um brother Barry Spears I

  450. don't know some of you may know him his

  451. son I guess that's probably his oldest

  452. son I guess um oldest son passed away

  453. and uh unexpectedly he's a young man I

  454. don't guess you probably 30 so let's

  455. pray pray for that family during this

  456. time so yeah

  457. >> yes

  458. Let's remember sister Ola in prayer.

  459. Remember those babies. Amen.

  460. And uh

  461. >> Yes. Amen. Let's remember that. Let's

  462. remember brother Gayen as well and uh

  463. pray for him. He's in a lot of pain. I

  464. appreciate him still doing this and I

  465. know he's in a lot of pain when he does

  466. it. So let's pray for him as well.

  467. Continue to remember all these requests

  468. of prayer tonight and uh pray for the

  469. lost. Pray for the service tonight.

  470. Amen. We need a word from God just like

  471. we do every time we come. Amen. So pray

  472. about that this evening. Is there any

  473. other request to prayer tonight?

  474. change.

  475. I know

  476. every time

  477. I looked up

  478. whatever

  479. Yeah.

  480. >> Yeah.

  481. I don't preach at anybody.

  482. >> And uh

  483. >> Yeah.

  484. That's the truth. It's been I There's

  485. been several people accuse me of that

  486. since I've been here in the last last

  487. few months. And here's what I'll tell

  488. you about that. I have never, not as

  489. long as I've been here. It might have

  490. been some place before I came here, but

  491. as long as I've been here, I've never

  492. studied the message to preach at

  493. somebody. And uh I have I have one

  494. person that I have to preach for. And

  495. really, he's the one I'm preaching to,

  496. >> right?

  497. >> You say, "What do you mean?" Well, you

  498. know, God don't need your preaching.

  499. Well, I preach for him, and my preaching

  500. has to be acceptable to him first. And

  501. uh um I'm not, you know, I'm kind of

  502. like one fell said, I'm not going to

  503. preach at you, but if your sin happens

  504. to be what my message is on, I'm not

  505. going to preach around you either.

  506. >> And uh you need help. And uh people can

  507. call it whatever they want to. And I

  508. don't try to single anybody out either

  509. looking at them either. So um but just

  510. just help. That just lets you know right

  511. there

  512. God's working on people. No, I know

  513. you're not. I know you're not. I just I

  514. that just felt like that was a good time

  515. to interject that. Okay. And people

  516. people will say that he was preaching at

  517. me. Well,

  518. >> Amen. Well, pray God will help him.

  519. Amen. And uh there's some others here.

  520. Amen. There's some others that's left

  521. and said the same thing. And uh and it's

  522. just the devil

  523. >> talking to them and they're telling

  524. theirel one thing, but God's really just

  525. trying to show them how much he loves

  526. them.

  527. >> And uh man, I'm telling you, if it

  528. hadn't been for that that commandment,

  529. Paul said when that that commandment

  530. came, he said sin revived and I died,

  531. what he was talking about was is that

  532. law showed him how dead he was on the

  533. inside. And that hurts.

  534. It stings when you go to realizing that

  535. and God's trying to love on you, but

  536. he's first got a, you know, it's it's

  537. painful. Word of God's a two-edged

  538. sword. And uh it's painful and you got

  539. to make sure you're obedient to that.

  540. Let's pray for these. And I'm thankful

  541. that they feel that way, but at the same

  542. time, that's just a fleshly excuse to

  543. say that it's not conviction. And let's

  544. pray for them. Let's come pray tonight

  545. and then we'll get to our classes. I

  546. appreciate each one of you being here. I

  547. love you in the Lord tonight.

  548. Brother Kyle, you lead us tonight,

  549. brother. Thank you,

  550. >> Father. Thank you for this day, for your

  551. grace and your mercy. Thank you for your

  552. kindness toward us, for your love, for

  553. your precious blood. I know we're

  554. unworthy of your mercy. God, I thank you

  555. for being so good to us tonight. I ask

  556. that you would help us this evening,

  557. God, with so many needs, Lord. Heavy

  558. hearts, burden, full of problems. I

  559. pray, God, we bring them to you tonight.

  560. You would help, give grace, mercy, may

  561. cleanse us of sin, give us of our

  562. shortcomings. God, I know we're nothing

  563. without you. Please help us tonight. May

  564. you bless our missionaries and mission

  565. support. And I pray you for all these

  566. needs tonight. You know, every heart and

  567. life. And I pray that you would touch,

  568. Lord, meet the needs according to your

  569. will, God, that you'd give strength

  570. where strength is needed. I pray for

  571. those that are lost tonight, God, that

  572. you would help them deal with their

  573. heart. Draw them unto yourself, Lord. I

  574. pray, Father, that you would work in

  575. every heart and life that's here

  576. tonight. Bless the teachers, Lord. Help

  577. us as we do Bible study this evening.

  578. God, I pray that you'll get glory to

  579. yourself. Continue to work in our

  580. church. Continue to have your hand upon

  581. the preaching and the singing. Lord, I

  582. give you thanks for what you do. You're

  583. worthy of it. Lord, I love you. Thank

  584. you for loving us. Help us, God, tonight

  585. we pray.

  586. I'm

  587. >> so cute.

  588. All right. Titus chapter 3 tonight. Take

    Titus 3 chapter mention

  589. God's word. Turn with us to the book of

  590. Titus, chapter number three, New

  591. Testament. Go to the book of Second

  592. Timothy. And if you find Hebrews, go

  593. back left. All right? And uh there's a

  594. little book in between Titus and Hebrews

  595. called Fiman. And some of these books,

  596. there's dust in these pages, but uh but

  597. I hope there's not. Amen. I hope you

  598. wearing them out. Amen. And I tell you

  599. this, it's all profitable. And even

  600. those ia books over there in the Old

  601. Testament. Amen. And uh those ones that

  602. we think really ain't in there. If you

  603. ask most people, you know, you ask them

  604. if there's the book of Zephaniah, some

  605. people look at you. Not sure. Amen. But

  606. there is. I think some people get

  607. Hezekiah and that one confused. But turn

  608. to the book of Hezekiah. And about 30

  609. people go to flipping through their

  610. Bible. But uh Amen. Just in case you're

  611. wondering, there is no book of Hezekiah.

  612. Amen. But uh Titus chapter 3 tonight,

    Titus 3 chapter mention

  613. I'm not trying to be foolish this

  614. evening. Forgive me. But uh Titus

  615. chapter number three. Got a thought on

  616. my heart. Something the Lord put on me

  617. today. I want to share it with you. And

  618. uh something I think that will help us.

  619. And uh I wish I could preach it on

  620. Sunday morning. If it goes well tonight,

  621. I may preach it Sunday morning. So we'll

  622. see how that goes. Amen. Preacher, we've

  623. heard it twice. Well, y'all y'all are

  624. about a quarter of the Sunday morning

  625. crowd. So we'll just take it and run

  626. with it. Amen. But uh Titus chapter 3, I

    Titus 3 chapter mention

  627. want to read three verses. Jump with me.

  628. Uh verse number one and we'll go from

  629. verse number one to verse number eight.

  630. And then from verse number 8 to verse

  631. number 14. All right. Notice the verse

  632. with me. Titus chapter 3 verse number

    Titus 3 chapter mention

  633. one.

  634. Paul says here writing to Titus which is

  635. at cree. He says, "Put them in mind to

  636. be subject to principalities and powers

  637. to obey magistrates, to be ready to

  638. every good work." Verse number eight,

  639. this is a faithful saying, "And these

  640. things I will that thou affirm

  641. constantly, that they which have

  642. believed in God might be careful to

  643. maintain good works. These things are

  644. good and profitable unto men."

  645. Now notice verse number 14.

  646. The Bible says, "And let our hours also

  647. learn to maintain good works for

  648. necessary uses that they be not

  649. unfruitful."

  650. Now, Father, I ask you this evening as

  651. we've come to uh study thy word. I pray

  652. you'll help us tonight, God. We have

  653. nothing without thee. And Lord, I pray

  654. that you cleanse us of all sin. God, I

  655. realize just how short we fall, God.

  656. each and every day, Lord. Many every day

  657. we miss the mark and God, we come up

  658. short, but Lord, would you help us

  659. tonight, Father, I want to hit the mark.

  660. Um, God, I want to share what you put on

  661. my heart. And I pray that you would

  662. speak to me and through me. Help me

  663. remember what I've studied, God, and and

  664. Lord, whatever else you want said. Help

  665. me to say everything that needs to be

  666. said and nothing that ought not be said.

  667. Get glory to yourself and we'll exalt

  668. you and praise you because you alone are

  669. worthy. And Lord, we pray for these

  670. situations in our church tonight, God,

  671. many heavy hearts. Please Lord, give

  672. grace in every life, Father, and let

  673. them know, Lord, that you are sufficient

  674. and that you do love them and help them

  675. during this time. We'll give you thanks

  676. because we ask it in Jesus name. Amen.

  677. And amen. Now, if you didn't notice

  678. tonight what the correlation is in these

  679. three verses, there's a phrase that I

  680. want to zero in on tonight in these

  681. three three verses. And I want to look

  682. back at our text tonight just for the

  683. sake of emphasis. Notice with me verse

  684. number one in the last phrase of verse

  685. number one of Titus 3. Say it with me

  686. tonight. To be ready to every good work.

  687. Notice verse number eight, the middle

  688. part of the verse. That that they which

  689. have believed in God, what's it say?

  690. Might be careful to maintain good works.

  691. Now notice with me verse number 14

  692. again. Read the whole verse. and let

  693. ours also learn to maintain good works

  694. for necessary uses that they be not

  695. unfruitful. So tonight I want to talk to

  696. you about good works, what they are,

  697. what they're not. Why should we be

  698. involved in good works? Now I think we

  699. can answer the question tonight that the

  700. good work is the salvation work.

  701. >> Right?

  702. >> I'm reminded of the man that came to

  703. Jesus one day and he said this. He said,

  704. "What must I do that I might work the

  705. works of God?" You remember what Jesus

  706. said to that man? He said, "This is the

  707. work of God that you believe on him whom

  708. he hath sent." And so, primarily

  709. tonight, the work of God number one is

  710. salvation in the heart and life of a

  711. human being. If you have a soul tonight,

  712. if you are living, breathing vessel,

  713. human, amen, you have a soul and the

  714. primary work of God is for you to be

  715. saved. Amen. And you say, "Well, being

  716. saved is not a work." I agree with you

  717. on that. But it is the work of God done

  718. in you. Amen. And I want to zero in on

  719. this thought. The book of Titus. Now

  720. Titus, this phrase is used in all three

  721. chapters. And I believe verse number

  722. eight of chapter 3 really is a summary

  723. of the entire book of Titus. Notice what

  724. he says. This is a faithful saying, and

  725. these things I will that thou affirm

  726. constantly that they which have believed

  727. in God might be careful to maintain good

  728. works. These things are good and

  729. profitable unto men. Now, what you'll

  730. find is when you study these three short

  731. chapters that this is the emphasis of

  732. this entire book. This is what Paul is

  733. telling Titus here to apply to his

  734. heart. And literally the emphasis begins

  735. in chapter number one when he says in

  736. verse number five, he tells Titus, he

  737. says, "For this cause I left the

  738. increice what he says, that thou

  739. shouldest set in order, what's the Bible

  740. say? the things that are wanting. You

  741. know what he was talking about? He was

  742. talking about good works.

  743. >> What does that mean? The things that are

  744. wanting. Well, they were lacking in the

  745. department of good works. Let me say

  746. this tonight. The truth is about this

  747. church and I believe about every church,

  748. you know, there's some churches, yeah,

  749. we probably could say they're living

  750. pretty close to the scriptures as far as

  751. the operation and the function of the

  752. church. But really, good works is not so

  753. much what you're doing, but why you're

  754. doing it.

  755. >> Okay? And you can be doing everything

  756. right tonight, but if you have the wrong

  757. motive and what you're doing, then all

  758. of that is null and void. So, I want to

  759. define this term tonight for just a

  760. minute and then I'll give you the text

  761. this evening. I thought maybe the Lord

  762. wanted us to go through Titus, but we're

  763. kind of going to do that in a one sermon

  764. time here. So, notice with me tonight

  765. the phrase again in in Titus 3 verse one

  766. to be ready to every good work. Verse

  767. number eight, to maintain good works.

  768. Verse 14, to maintain good works. Now,

  769. I'll give you the three points tonight.

  770. All right, the three points for these

  771. three verses are this. Number one, verse

  772. number one speaks of the preparation for

  773. good works. The preparation for good

  774. works. Verse number eight speaks, point

  775. number two speaks not only not of the

  776. preparation but of the practice of good

  777. works. Verse number eight speaks of the

  778. practice of good works. And then thirdly

  779. tonight we look at verse 14 and it's

  780. going to tell us about the purpose of

  781. good works. the purpose of good works.

  782. Now, let me say this tonight by way of

  783. introduction. Number one, tonight I

  784. would say this. We are as Christians, we

  785. are designed for good works.

  786. >> Right?

  787. >> We are designed this way. How is that?

  788. Well, Ephesians 2:8 says, "For by grace

    Ephesians 2:8

  789. are you saved through faith, and that

  790. not of yourselves is the gift of God,

  791. not of works, lest any man should

  792. boast." So, salvation's not of works.

  793. All right? But verse 10 says this, "For

  794. we are his workmanship, created in

  795. Christ Jesus." What's it say? Unto good

  796. works which God hath before ordained

  797. that we should walk in them. Now you was

  798. not predestinated to be saved, but you

  799. were predestined to after that you were

  800. saved, predestined to good works. It was

  801. designed by God in his mind when he

  802. saved you that you would live for him.

  803. Amen. And those good works, we are

  804. designed the Christian, if any man be in

  805. Christ, he is a new creature. That new

  806. creature's design is for employment in

  807. good works. Now, number one, we see that

  808. we're designed for good works. Number

  809. two, we are demanded to do good works.

  810. It's demanded. Notice James chapter

  811. number four.

  812. Listen to what James says here

  813. concerning this subject of good works

  814. this evening. James chapter 4 verse

    James 4 chapter mention

  815. number 17.

  816. Your Bible says this, therefore to him

  817. that knoweth to do good and doeth it

  818. not. What's your Bible say? To him it is

  819. sin. So we are not only designed for

  820. good works, but we are demanded to do

  821. good works. Why? Because it is sinful

  822. for a man to know to do good and to not

  823. do it.

  824. >> Amen. So we are demanded tonight and we

  825. are commanded. It's expected. Let me say

  826. it again. It is demanded that we do good

  827. works. Then I would say this, number

  828. three, we're not only designed and we're

  829. not only demanded to, but we are we

  830. ought to be desirous of good works.

  831. >> Notice Titus 2 and verse 14, the chapter

  832. just prior. Listen to what he says. Who

  833. gave himself for us that he might redeem

  834. us from all iniquity and purify unto

  835. himself a peculiar people. What's your

  836. Bible say? Zealous of good works. So

  837. tonight, our number one desire ought to

  838. be to do good works before God. Now,

  839. what are good works? All right, four

  840. things tonight about what good works is

  841. concerning the Bible and what that means

  842. for us this evening. All right, if you

  843. are going to if you were going to make a

  844. list tonight and say, "What are bad

  845. works and what are good works?" This is

  846. what you would find under the list of

  847. good works. Number one, I would say

  848. this. Good works are holy. Come on.

  849. >> Pure and motive. They promote holiness.

  850. And also the work itself is holy but the

  851. work promotes holiness. If what you are

  852. doing is not holy, it will not promote

  853. holiness and it will not be deemed a

  854. good work. And so good works for you and

  855. I have to be something that is pure. You

  856. understand God is holy.

  857. >> And so his children are to operate in

  858. purity and in complete and total

  859. holiness. So number one, good works are

  860. holy. That's the first qualification. If

  861. your works are not holy, then your work

  862. is not a good work. Out of that, not

  863. only good works are holy, number two,

  864. good works not only are holy, but they

  865. are helpful.

  866. >> Amen.

  867. >> They're beneficial.

  868. If your work produces nothing. Amen. If

  869. what you're doing it I if it produces

  870. nothing, number one, it's probably not

  871. holy. Okay? But if your work is holy,

  872. it's going to be beneficial.

  873. >> Right?

  874. >> What did your Bible say? James said

  875. faith without works is what? Dead. And

  876. when he talks about works, you remember

  877. the example that he uses. He says if you

  878. say to a brother, he said he comes unto

  879. you and he's unclothed and he's hungry

  880. and he say you you look at him, you say,

  881. all right, depart, be warmed and filled.

  882. He said, except he said, but you don't

  883. give him the things needful for his

  884. body. He said, what does it profit?

  885. >> You're right.

  886. >> You tell him he's okay, but you do

  887. nothing to supply his need. Good works

  888. take care of needs.

  889. >> Right.

  890. >> Amen. They're helpful. Let me say this.

  891. Not only good works are holy and good

  892. works are helpful, but good works are

  893. honorable.

  894. >> Good works are commendable. If what

  895. you're doing cannot be commended, if you

  896. have to hide what you're doing.

  897. >> Come on. Right.

  898. >> If it has to be done in secret,

  899. >> you're right.

  900. >> Amen. You say, "Well, I I in my

  901. humility, I want to I want to, you know,

  902. stay to myself." Well, there's certain

  903. things that should be done in secret.

  904. Okay. But if it was brought out to

  905. light, would it bring shame to the name

  906. of Christ, or would it bring honor to

  907. the name of Christ? You're

  908. >> right.

  909. >> Your work should be honorable in itself,

  910. but it also should honor the name of

  911. Christ and his church. If what you're

  912. doing is not honorable to this church,

  913. then it is not a good work. This is what

  914. I like the best. You say, "Well, that's

  915. really bad." Okay, here's where it gets

  916. good. All right. A good work is holy. A

  917. good work is helpful. A good work is

  918. honorable. But let me say this. A good

  919. work tonight is happy. You're right.

  920. >> Amen. If you are doing a good work for

  921. God, you can be happy in spite of

  922. whatever circumstances you're in.

  923. >> You're right.

  924. >> Amen. Because here's the thing about it.

  925. You know that your work number one, you

  926. know the reason why you're doing it

  927. >> because God told you to. You know the

  928. purpose that you have out of it.

  929. Ultimately, whether anything else

  930. happens or not, God's going to get glory

  931. out of it.

  932. >> Amen.

  933. >> You know what? If I pray for a lost

  934. sinner to be saved for the rest of my

  935. life. If I pray for lost sinners to be

  936. saved for the rest of my days and I

  937. never see a one of them get saved, you

  938. know, I can chalk that prayer up as a

  939. successful prayer. You're

  940. >> right.

  941. >> Because God gets glory out of that

  942. >> because what happens when we pray the

  943. will of God, God is pleased. Isn't that

  944. right?

  945. >> And so good works are happy. Now I'm

  946. reminded what Solomon said. Ecclesiastes

    Ecclesiastes 9 chapter mention

  947. chapter 9 and verse number 10. He said,

  948. "Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do

  949. it with thy might." Now, he's not

  950. literally just talking about physical

  951. labor, okay? It goes to all facts of

  952. life. Whatever you put your hand to, so

  953. to speak, you ought to give it your

  954. best. Amen. Because he says in the

  955. verse, you can turn there and read it.

  956. Chapter nine and verse number 10, he

  957. said, "There's no labor. There's nothing

  958. where you're headed." Amen. He's talking

  959. about the grave. He said, "There's not

  960. going to be any of that." And Jesus said

  961. this. He said, "I must work the works of

  962. him that sent me while it's what? day.

  963. Amen. For night cometh when no man

  964. >> can work. Amen. So the truth is tonight

  965. our good works. You say, "What does all

  966. that mean for me? How can I employ that?

  967. Obviously, I've got some things to

  968. change." Well, you're not the only one

  969. cuz I do too.

  970. >> Amen.

  971. >> Amen. Because truth is, not everything

  972. I'm involved in fits those four

  973. >> criteria. Now, God just give me that.

  974. Okay? I believe that's scriptural. Amen.

  975. It's got to be holy. It will be helpful.

  976. Amen. It'll be honorable and it will

  977. make you happy. There's nothing in this

  978. life, if you're saved, there is nothing,

  979. listen to me, there is nothing in this

  980. life that will satisfy you the way

  981. serving Jesus will.

  982. >> Amen. Notice the text tonight and I'll

  983. be done. I see first of all tonight

  984. concerning this text, I've got to give

  985. you context so you understand what's

  986. going on here. Paul has mentioned this

  987. thought of good works in this chapter.

  988. The first time he mentions the thought

  989. that I saw here in these verses in

  990. chapter one in verse number 16 and he's

  991. talking about the unapproved for good

  992. works. Look what he says. They profess

  993. that they know God but in works they

  994. deny him. Notice this. Being abominable

  995. and disobedient and unto every good work

  996. repbate. You know what that word repbate

  997. means? It literally means unapproved or

  998. unaccepted. It means that the good works

  999. that they should be involved in, they

1000. cannot do because they do not have the

1001. Holy Ghost on the inside. Now, we know

1002. what the primary work out of the Holy

1003. Ghost is. It's those fruits of the

1004. spirit. And what's the first one? Love.

1005. Ain't that right? And the Bible says in

1006. Romans chapter 5, he said, "Hope maketh

    Romans 5 chapter mention

1007. not ashamed because the love of God is

1008. shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy

1009. Ghost which is given unto us." And so,

1010. the number one work of God is love. the

1011. greatest commandments. Love you got love

1012. God with all your heart, soul, and mind.

1013. And love your neighbor as yourself.

1014. That's the work of God. But the truth is

1015. tonight, if you are not saved, if you

1016. don't have a have the Holy Ghost on the

1017. inside, you cannot accomplish that.

1018. >> You are unapproved for good works. I

1019. notice not only the unapproved for good

1020. works, but I notice the uniform for good

1021. works. Notice verse two, chapter 2 and

1022. verse number seven. Paul is talking to

1023. the young, he's talking to Timothy to

1024. exhort the young men. Look what he says.

1025. Young men likewise exhort to be sober

1026. minded. Verse 7. In all things, showing

1027. thyself a pattern of good works. Now,

1028. what this means is when I say uniform,

  1029. I'm talking about there's consistency

1030. involved. When you think about good

1031. works, good works is not a one-time

  1032. thing,

  1033. >> right?

  1034. >> But it's a pattern. It's a lifestyle.

1035. It's something that you involve yourself

1036. in and you don't get out of it.

  1037. Amen. I don't understand people. Well, I

  1038. I I got to I I got to quit serving God

1039. because I've got too busy. I've got too

1040. much on my plate. Let me just hold up

1041. right there for a minute. Okay. If you

1042. serve God, you ought to serve God until

1043. you you physically cannot serve God

1044. anymore. Amen. Because the truth is he

1045. went until he couldn't go anymore. And

1046. yet he still went a little farther on.

1047. Amen. And we ought to give it our very

1048. best until we cannot go another mile or

1049. another minute and and serving him

  1050. because it's it's a life meant to be

1051. consistent. You see, we the Christian

1052. life I understand, you know, I've even

1053. made the statement that, you know, um if

1054. your life's not like this, you know,

  1055. that's the heart mandonder saying you're

1056. alive. And in a sense, the trouble that

1057. we face, yes, our life is like that,

1058. >> but your heart should be straight,

  1059. >> right?

1060. >> You ought to be consistent. You ought to

1061. be steady with God. What did Paul say to

1062. the Corinthians? He said, "Be you," he

1063. said, "Wherefore, my beloved, rather, be

1064. you steadfast, unmovable, and always

1065. abounding in the work of the Lord. For

1066. as much as you know that your labor is

1067. not in vain in the Lord." So, there's

  1068. steadiness, there's uniformity involved

1069. with the work with good works. Notice

1070. this. Not only there's the unapproved

1071. that he mentions of, and then there's

1072. the uniformity speaking to these young

1073. men, the pattern of good works. Let me

1074. say this. Just because he said that to

1075. young men doesn't mean that's not for

1076. all of us. Amen. We ought to all have a

1077. pattern of good works. And then notice

1078. verse 14, the verse I already mentioned.

1079. He says, "Who gave himself for us that

1080. he might redeem us from all iniquity and

1081. purify unto himself a peculiar people

1082. zealous of good works." So that speaks

  1083. of urgency.

  1084. >> There's a desire. Somebody who's

  1085. zealous, they're fervent about it. It's

1086. an urgent need. It's something that

1087. they're burdened by. Let me ask you,

1088. does does the work of God burden you?

1089. >> If all if all you ever come to church to

1090. do is get a blessing and not be a

1091. blessing, you've missed the point.

  1092. >> Amen. If you're long if you're looking

1093. to just sit around and get in, why don't

  1094. you get involved?

1095. >> Add that to the end of the phrase get

1096. in. Amen. Get involved in what's going

1097. on down at the house of God. There's

1098. urgency that's involved with good works.

1099. And so all of that introduces what he's

1100. going to talk about in chapter 3. Notice

1101. what he says. Verse number one. Put them

1102. in mind to be subject to principalities

1103. and powers to obey magistrates. Notice

1104. this. To be ready to every good work. So

1105. he lists three things in that verse.

1106. Number one, we are to be subject to

1107. principalities and powers. Notice that.

1108. To obey magistrates. We ought we are

1109. subject to the law of the land. Okay?

1110. >> Whether you like it or not. Amen. You

1111. can go out here and get mad and upset

1112. about what the government's doing, but

1113. you know what they going to do? They're

1114. going to put you in jail.

1115. >> Amen. And so, we ought to be subject to

1116. that. Put them in mind. That's

  1117. respectful.

1118. >> Amen. I And and the truth is tonight,

1119. the powers that be, the Bible says

  1120. they're ordained of God.

  1121. >> Right?

1122. >> That's what the Bible says. All right.

1123. Notice not only the subjection, but

1124. notice the submission in the verse. to

1125. be ready to every good work. And then he

1126. speaks of silence in verse two. Now,

1127. what's interesting about that that all

1128. of that is together is because the

1129. people that get no work done are the

1130. ones that are all time talking and all

1131. the time fussing about leadership.

1132. >> Did anybody just hear what I said?

1133. >> I'm talking about Paul laid it out

  1134. perfectly.

1135. >> He showed the leadership. He said, "Put

1136. them in mind to be subject to leadership

1137. and then to be silent." But he said to

1138. be ready for every good work. The reason

1139. why men don't get anything done, the

1140. reason why they run off to math all the

1141. time is cuz they've never submitted to

  1142. good works.

  1143. >> Amen.

1144. >> Amen. There's more people in the church

1145. that talk about what we're going to do

1146. instead of getting involved in what

1147. we're going to do. Amen. Get involved.

1148. Do the good works. Don't just talk about

1149. them. Well, I just don't know about

1150. that. Get involved and you'll find out

  1151. about it. Amen.

1152. >> It's a lot better on this side. Let me

1153. tell you that. It's a lot better to

1154. serve than it is to sit. Amen.

1155. He says in the verse and I'm talking

1156. about this is the preparation. Notice

1157. what he says to be ready. There is a

1158. preparation for good works. And I I

1159. think many way in many ways we've

1160. failed. And I and I can speak in and and

1161. from a perspective in the workforce

1162. point of view. I mean if anything I'll

1163. be honest with my parents prepared me to

1164. serve God, but I'll say they prepared me

1165. and and this is not to their shame, but

1166. they probably prepared me more to work

1167. than they even did that.

1168. >> Yeah. I mean that they instilled that in

1169. me from the time I was just a little

1170. boy. And we failed our children this

1171. damn time because we have not prepared

  1172. them unto good works.

  1173. >> Come on, preacher.

1174. Now look, okay, I'm not I'm not against,

1175. you know, sports and all things of that

1176. nature, but if we spent the time

1177. >> that we spent with our children at the

1178. ball field or some hobby or something

1179. like that, if we invested in them how to

1180. work and how to do the things of God

1181. because you see those things go in h

  1182. hand in hand. Okay?

  1183. >> If you'll teach them to labor, they'll

  1184. love God.

  1185. >> Amen. That's the truth tonight. And I

1186. think we failed in preparing our

1187. children for these good works. Remember,

  1188. if they're saved, they're designed for

  1189. that,

  1190. >> right?

1191. >> It's who they are on the inside. And you

1192. are selling them short. You are selling

1193. them. You're selling them cheap when you

1194. try to get them to do something they are

  1195. not designed to do.

  1196. >> Amen.

  1197. >> You know the percentage. It's like a

1198. quarter of a percent of people that make

1199. it into the major leagues. And let's

1200. just be honest, how many it's less than

1201. that that make it out make them that

1202. that make out of it. You think about

1203. this. I mean, most people that come out

1204. of that, their life's ruined. I mean,

1205. they they got all the kinds of money,

1206. but they've been involved in drugs.

1207. They've been involved in everything

1208. known to man, and it did more to hurt

1209. than harm their life than did to help

  1210. them,

  1211. >> right?

1212. >> Why do we waste our time?

1213. >> We need to invest eternally in their

1214. life. We need to prepare them. They're

1215. designed for it. They're demanded to do

1216. it. We should teach them to be desirous

1217. of it. So I see the preparation tonight

1218. for good works. Verse one, I'm moving

1219. quickly. We'll be done in just a minute.

1220. Notice verse eight. He has just told

1221. them in the text verses 3 through 7, he

1222. reminds them of salvation. Some of the

1223. most powerful verses in all of

1224. scripture. Verse five, not by which we

1225. have done, but according to his mercy,

1226. saved us by the washing of regeneration

1227. and renewing of the Holy Ghost. What a

1228. powerful truth. the fact he says, "Look,

1229. this is who we're to be in light of what

1230. he has done for us."

  1231. >> Right?

1232. >> Good works is our life because he has

1233. given us life. Amen. Notice this verse

1234. number eight. This is a faithful saying.

1235. What does that mean? It's true.

1236. >> Faithful. It's true. All right. Notice

1237. the verse again. And these things I will

1238. that thou affirm constantly. Constantly.

1239. Paul tells Titus, "Son, what I'm telling

  1240. you is right,

1241. >> but you need to say it over and over and

1242. over again. You need to tell it. I think

1243. that's where we missed it. We believe

1244. it. We don't tell it. Come on.

1245. >> Amen. We know what good works are, but

1246. how often are we instructing people in

1247. those good works? Notice the text.

1248. There's the truth. There is the telling

1249. of the truth. And notice verse eight.

1250. There's the testimony of the truth. Look

1251. what your Bible says. That they which

1252. have believed, you know what that is?

  1253. That's a testimony,

  1254. >> right?

1255. >> They which have believed in God, there's

1256. a testimony. Hey, is anybody saved in

  1257. the building tonight? Amen.

  1258. >> Saved. I hope you're all saved. Amen.

  1259. >> You know what that is? That's that's

  1260. you.

1261. >> Notice what he said again. I will that

1262. thou affirm constantly that they which

1263. have believed. Have you believed? Amen.

1264. Look what he says. In they which have

1265. believed in God might be careful to

1266. maintain good works. Now see this with

1267. me. All right. He says, "This is the

1268. truth. I command you to tell the truth.

1269. This is the testimony of those who have

1270. known the truth. But there's something

1271. you need to be thinking about. Notice

1272. the word. What's that word in the middle

1273. of the verse? That God might be careful.

1274. That doesn't mean that you're to be, you

1275. know, you know, be careful, don't fall.

1276. That's not what that means. It means

1277. you're to be constantly thinking about

  1278. it. That's

  1279. >> right.

  1280. >> You're to be careful. That's why the

1281. Bible says be careful for nothing.

  1282. >> Be b not don't don't be anxious. Be

1283. careful for nothing. But in everything

1284. by by prayer and supplication, let your

1285. requests be made known unto God. You

1286. know what he says? Philippians 3, that's

1287. where the verse is. Let your moderation

1288. be known to all men. Be careful. Be

1289. anxious about nothing. What he's saying

1290. here in the text is this is something

1291. you need to be anxious about.

1292. >> Look what he says. Notice it again. That

1293. they which have believed in God might be

1294. careful to what? To maintain good works.

1295. Now, this I've preached all night to get

1296. to this point. Okay. What does it mean

1297. to maintain good works? Well, I think

1298. really you can't give it one definition.

1299. Most writers say it means to keep them.

1300. Well, I would agree with that, but

1301. there's something. You got to have it

1302. before you can keep it,

  1303. >> right?

1304. >> I thought about these four things. Okay,

  1305. I know I've thrown out a lot tonight,

1306. but stay with me. Okay, number one, I

1307. think if you're going to maintain good

1308. works, number one, that means you have

  1309. to be available.

  1310. >> Y

1311. >> you have to be available. Now, here's

1312. what I'm finding this day and time.

  1313. Nobody's vot

1314. six months out. Call the dentist, you're

1315. a year out. You know, I mean, just

  1316. everything, you know, everything's

1317. backed up. Nobody is available. And if

1318. it's true anywhere, it's true in the

  1319. church.

  1320. >> You're right.

1321. >> Good works. We're not in short supply of

  1322. works to do.

  1323. >> Right.

1324. >> We're in short supply of people to do

  1325. the works,

  1326. >> right?

1327. >> Amen. And the thing is tonight, if I

1328. could tell you anything, number one, you

1329. need to be available. Make yourself

1330. available. All right? Then God will take

1331. these other points here and help you

1332. with this. All right? Number one, you

1333. need to be available if you're going to

1334. maintain good works. Number two, you

  1335. need to be aware.

1336. What do I mean by that? Well, you need

1337. to know what the good works are.

1338. >> Amen. You need to know where they are.

1339. You need to know what they are. And you

1340. need to know what your part in that is.

  1341. >> Right?

1342. >> Okay. You say, "Well, preacher, how do I

1343. know if somebody doesn't tell me?" Well,

1344. the thing is, you got a Bible,

  1345. >> right,

1346. >> that tells you what to be involved in?

1347. And the trouble is, we've got too many

1348. people that's been led around by the

1349. hand their entire life. Get involved,

  1350. >> right?

  1351. >> Figure it out.

  1352. I mean, I never thought I'd say that

1353. from a pull pit, but figure it out. I

1354. mean, really, I can preach to you three

1355. times a week, but the truth is, if you

1356. never take it and read it yourself,

1357. you're never going to know.

  1358. >> You're right. everything I have ever

1359. learned there. Don't get me wrong,

1360. there's been sermons that have helped

1361. me. I talked to the man of God

1362. yesterday. Men of God's helped me more

1363. than anybody else. And his sermons have

1364. probably helped my ministry as much if

1365. not more than anybody else. But you

1366. realize every truth that's ingrained in

1367. my heart. I learned for myself.

  1368. >> Amen.

1369. >> I got it in the Bible down on my own

1370. knees in my own prayer time, my own

1371. study time, I got it. I got aware of it

1372. when GOD SHOWED IT TO ME. GOD DIDN'T

1373. SHOW IT TO THE PREACHER. HE SHOWED IT TO

  1374. ME through his word.

1375. >> And if you're going to be available,

1376. you're going to have to be aware.

  1377. >> I think, you know, there's a lot of

1378. people, they just get saved and here's

1379. what happens. They're available, man.

1380. We'll do whatever you want to do,

1381. preacher, but you know what? They just

  1382. don't know,

  1383. >> right?

1384. >> They're not aware. You got to be taught.

1385. Teach yourself. You got to be taught,

  1386. but also learn yourself,

  1387. >> right?

1388. >> I hope this is resonating tonight.

1389. >> You need to be available. need to be

1390. aware. Number three, not only you need

1391. to be available and aware, but you need

1392. to be attendant. All right? When you

1393. find out what you're supposed to do, if

1394. you're going to maintain good works, you

1395. need to stay with it,

  1396. >> right?

1397. >> Attendant, you know, you think about,

1398. you know, the only place in the world

1399. that still does this is Betty's. Amen.

1400. Where they have somebody that pumps your

1401. gas. Amen. And for some, that's a

  1402. blessing. Amen. And I I mean, I

1403. appreciate it. Amen. I guess I'm just

1404. that lazy, I guess. But but you know

1405. what they do? They're always waiting for

  1406. somebody to come by,

  1407. >> right?

1408. >> To do the same job that they do all day

1409. long. You know, you say, "Well, that my

1410. gosh, that's monotonous." You know what?

1411. When you see the fruit of it, it's a

  1412. blessing,

  1413. >> right?

  1414. >> And I'm not talking about that. I'm

1415. talking about spiritual things. When I

1416. come to you and preach every week, you

1417. know, as people say, "Well, man, that

1418. must be that must be tough to get up in

1419. front of a bunch of people and preach

1420. every week." But when it's what you're

  1421. called to do,

1422. >> when you've been made available and

1423. you've been made aware of what's needed,

1424. >> you want to be attended to it.

  1425. >> Right?

1426. >> You want to stick with it. You want to

1427. stay by it because you want it to

1428. produce what it's supposed to,

  1429. >> right?

1430. >> Notice this. Not only you need to be

1431. available, wear, and attend it, but you

  1432. need to abide.

1433. Look what he says. Be careful to

1434. maintain good works. You need to make it

1435. your life, not just stay with it, you

1436. know, just during church time. And I'm

1437. thankful for those of you that do that

1438. serve in this church. You would do

1439. anything that I asked you to do in this

1440. church. But it's more than just here,

  1441. >> right?

1442. >> It's more than just inside the walls of

1443. this building, but it's out there. It's

1444. at your home. It's at your job. It's an

1445. abiding life. Good works is not just at

1446. the house of God. You're

  1447. >> right.

1448. >> But it's how you live outside the doors.

  1449. It's you're to abide in those. If you're

1450. going to maintain good works, it's going

1451. to have to be more than just a look

1452. every now and again, but it's going to

1453. have to be your life,

  1454. >> right?

1455. >> It's going to have to be your life. Be

1456. careful to maintain good works. Notice

1457. lastly, we consider the preparation. We

  1458. consider the practice maintaining,

1459. keeping these good works. You got to be

1460. available. You got to be aware. You got

1461. to be attendant. You got to abide

1462. in these good works. And there's

1463. scripture for all this. But I really,

1464. you know, the scripture tonight, I want

1465. you to get the point. Okay? Notice the

1466. text. Verse 14. And the Bible says, "And

1467. let ours also learn to maintain good

1468. works for necessary uses that they be

1469. not unfruitful." Now, we've noticed the

1470. preparation, the practice. Now, notice

1471. the purpose. Okay? Now, I got to give

1472. you some more context. All right? Notice

1473. the verse just before that in verse

1474. number 13 or verse, let's look at verse

1475. 12. Paul says, "When when I shall see an

1476. Artimus unto thee, or Titicus, be

1477. diligent, or however you say that, be

1478. diligent to come unto me to Nicopoulos,

1479. for I determined there to winter. Bring

1480. Zenus the lawyer and Apollos on their

1481. journey diligently." Notice this last

1482. phrase, that nothing be wanting unto

  1483. them.

1484. So what that means is Paul was saying

1485. you know when when you come you or

1486. actually he's not saying when you come

1487. Titus but there's people there with you

1488. that you're going to send. That word

1489. bring in verse number 13 it literally

1490. means to send verse 13 bring Zenus it

1491. means to send and to supply. So here's

1492. what he's saying. He says when he says

1493. bring Zenus and Apollos on their journey

1494. diligently that nothing be wanting unto

1495. them. He's saying that there is a need.

1496. Notice verse 14. Let ours also learn to

1497. maintain good works. What's that next

1498. phrase? For necessary uses. All right.

1499. What he's talking about is he says they

1500. need to be involved working. This is

1501. talking about physical labor providing

1502. for the needs of the church because

1503. there is a there is a need for supply,

  1504. >> right?

1505. >> There's men that need to be cared for.

1506. What he was talking about is he's

1507. saying, Titus, those men of God that's

1508. serving God and traveling, you make sure

1509. they have everything that they need when

1510. they leave to come unto me.

  1511. >> Right?

  1512. >> You say, "Preacher, that's a that's a

1513. heavy burden." No, it's just the primary

1514. purpose of the child of God,

  1515. >> right?

1516. >> We're to we're to supply the needs. And

1517. and look, I'm not talking about myself.

1518. I mean, what I'm trying to tell you here

1519. is is what he's expressing in verse 14

1520. for necessary uses. Your tithe is so the

  1521. church can function,

  1522. >> right?

1523. >> But let me give you this truth. All

1524. right? It's more important. Notice the

1525. verse. It's more important the support

1526. that's needed. Let me say this. All

1527. right? It's more important that you be

1528. successful than you be supportive.

1529. Notice the verse. Let ours also learn to

1530. maintain good works for necessary uses.

1531. Notice the last phrase, that they be not

1532. unfruitful. You know, here's the truth

1533. about the Christian life. Don't miss

1534. what I'm going to tell you right now.

1535. God does not need your money.

  1536. >> Right. Right.

  1537. >> He don't need it.

1538. >> This place will go on. God will keep the

1539. lights on. Man, if there was no money

1540. coming in, God could he can keep the

  1541. lights on. I I'm not that's not what I'm

1542. talking about. The reason God says here

1543. in the text that you're to do good

1544. works, maintain good works for necessary

1545. uses. What he is saying is there is

1546. support needed. He said, but greater

1547. than the need for support because God

  1548. don't need us.

1549. >> Right? But what he's saying is is you

  1550. need to be successful

1551. and that's a necessity. And the only way

1552. that you'll be successful is if you

1553. maintain good works. Let me say this. If

1554. you don't work a regular job, all right,

1555. listen to me now. Mama's in here, ladies

1556. in here that you stay at home, that is

  1557. your job. That's

  1558. >> right.

1559. >> Okay, listen to me. And I understand

1560. ladies that do different things. You

1561. work a job, but you got to be doing

  1562. something,

  1563. >> right?

1564. You ever wonder, you ever looked at

  1565. people that they're constantly

1566. underneath the surface? Like they never

1567. have any money, they're always broke,

1568. they always got their hand out. And

  1569. they're telling you, you know, we're

1570. doing the best we can. We're trying to

1571. do all we can. Some cases that's true.

1572. Let me say it's most time it's not

  1573. >> right.

  1574. >> Most time it's not. Here's the thing

1575. about it. If you're not tithing, all

1576. right, the Bible says, "Will a man rob

1577. God?" You know, where have you robbed

1578. me? you know, tithes and offers. We know

1579. the verse. Okay, here's the truth. If

1580. you're not tiing, what you're doing is

1581. it's not the failure is not that you're

1582. not supporting the church. It's that

1583. you're not being successful before God.

  1584. >> You're right.

  1585. >> It's a command.

1586. >> It's not got so much to do with taking

1587. care of the church. God takes care of

  1588. the church.

1589. >> You are commanded to do it to bear fruit

  1590. in your Christian life.

  1591. >> You're right.

1592. >> Amen. It's why Jesus said Matthew

1593. chapter number six, he talked about your

1594. offerings. Amen. He said you need to he

1595. said you know you don't do that in front

1596. of everybody else just making you know

1597. what I'm saying. He says you don't do

1598. that to be seen. You don't go out in

  1599. front of everybody and

1600. >> you know what I'm saying. He says Paul

1601. says there is a need Titus but you need

1602. to tell them greater than the need for

1603. support. Their need for success in the

1604. Christian life is greater than that.

1605. Here's what I know. When Jesus looked at

1606. that widow that had two mites. Remember

1607. what he said? He said he saw those rich

1608. men casting in of their abundance. And

1609. he said this widow of her penury

1610. >> or poorness. She cast in more than they

1611. all because she gave all that she had.

  1612. >> Right?

1613. >> He's not concerned about the amount.

1614. He's just concerned about you doing what

1615. you what he told you to do.

  1616. >> Right?

1617. >> If you are going to maintain good works

1618. tonight, and I'll say this, it goes

1619. across the board. This is the Wednesday

1620. night crowd. This some of the people in

1621. here, y'all the hardest working people

1622. I've ever been around. And this is a

1623. commenation to you. All right. God will

  1624. bless you for that.

1625. >> Amen. Not because what you do for the

1626. church, but because when you give to the

1627. church, you are giving it to him. That's

  1628. >> right.

1629. >> Brother Gray said this the other day,

1630. and I thought this was so good. He was

  1631. talking about tithes. Now, don't don't

1632. get scared with me. He can say this

1633. because it's been 28 years, okay? Him

1634. pastor, but don't don't be afraid what

1635. I'm fixing to tell you, okay? He said

1636. this. He said, "If every bit of the

1637. money," because this happens a lot in

1638. this society. If every bit of the money

1639. that was brought into this church, for

1640. some reason by fraudulent activity by

1641. leadership, it got wasted and every bit

1642. of it got lost. He said, "Do you think

1643. all the people that tithe would lose

  1644. their blessing?

  1645. >> God don't want the money."

  1646. >> That's right.

1647. >> It ain't about how much is in the bank

  1648. account.

  1649. >> It's the action

  1650. >> of faith.

  1651. >> You're right.

1652. >> Talking about maintaining good works.

1653. Amen. You ought to give your tithe not

1654. because it supports the church. You

1655. ought to give your tithe because it's s

1656. it's what success is in the eyes of God.

  1657. >> Amen.

1658. >> Amen. Father, thank you for this time. I

1659. pray that this has been a help tonight.

1660. I know for myself, Lord, I want to

1661. maintain good works and I realize I've

1662. got a long ways to go, Lord, to get to

1663. where I should be. And Lord, I pray

1664. you'd help me tonight. Lord, you've even

1665. convicted my heart in this message.

1666. Lord, would you help us, God? Would you

1667. help us Lord to maintain

1668. God to to be available

1669. Lord but to be aware God? I'm afraid

  1670. there's a lot of people that's aware of

1671. good works that need to be done but they

1672. have chose to make themselves

1673. unavailable. Lord would you help us all

1674. to be available to be aware and to be

1675. attendant to the needs Lord of the good

1676. works and to abide there. Lord would you

1677. help us take this message apply it into

1678. our hearts and lives. We give you thanks

1679. for it because we ask it in Jesus' name.

  1680. And God's people said,

  1681. >> "Amen."

  1682. >> Amen.
