  60. Amen. Amen. Now for our pledges.

  61. First, the American flag.

  62. Attention. Salute. Pledge. I pledge

  63. allegiance to the flag of the United

  64. States of America, and to the republic

  65. for which it stands, one nation under

  66. God, indivisible, with liberty and

  67. justice for all.

  68. The Christian flag.

  69. I pledge allegiance to the Christian

  70. flag and to the Savior for whose kingdom

  71. it stands. One Savior crucified, risen,

  72. and coming again with life and liberty

  73. to all who believe.

  74. Now, the Bible,

  75. I pledge allegiance to the Bible, God's

  76. holy word. I will make it a lamp unto my

  77. feet and a light unto my path. I will

  78. hide his words in my heart that I might

  79. not sin against God. Amen. Amen. You may

  80. be seated.

  81. >> Good to see you in the house of the Lord

  82. tonight. Appreciate you being here on

  83. this Wednesday evening and thank the

  84. Lord for some more rain today.

  85. Appreciate the Lord's blessings and he

  86. sure is good to us. But I do thank you

  87. all for being here uh this evening in

  88. the evening service. I hope you've had a

  89. good week thus far and we'll go ahead

  90. and get right off with some

  91. announcements this evening and then get

  92. into our prayer quest time. If you could

  93. got your calendar there, do remember

  94. tomorrow night men will be having men's

  95. fellowship uh tomorrow night at 7:00.

  96. And so remember that tomorrow evening

  97. that's open to anybody and everybody uh

  98. men. Amen. Let me put it that way. Men,

  99. okay? And so all the men, you're welcome

  100. to come to that tomorrow evening at

  101. 7:00. And then the ladies Mother's Day

  102. brunch is Saturday at 10:30. Okay?

  103. Saturday at 10:30, y'all have the brunch

  104. there. And so come out and be part of

  105. that. All right? And I'll be praying for

  106. that. And mom will be there speaking to

  107. y'all that day. So that'll be a good

  108. time. And so y'all remember that as well

  109. on Saturday. All right. 10:30. And then

  110. um Mon uh Mon Sunday, I'm wanting to say

  111. Monday. Mother's Day and Sunday. It

  112. don't go together. Um the 10th, Mother's

  113. Day, we'll have our Mother's Day

  114. service, normal Sunday school worship

  115. service at 11. And then we'll have no

  116. evening service on Mother's Day, uh May

  117. the 10th. And so that's this coming

  118. Sunday. So remember that. And we won't

  119. be having evening service on Sunday. And

  120. then the next thing here we've got

  121. coming up is the visitation uh at

  122. Springfest. So that'll be the 16th of

  123. May there on Saturday uh from 10 to 2.

  124. And so we'll go out and hand out some

  125. tracks, waters, things of that nature on

  126. Saturday, May the 16th. And uh you broke

  127. the blessed time of her being nice to

  128. you. So anyway,

  129. for so long she's been nice to her and

  130. not to us, but now that's been broken.

  131. So anyway, but uh somebody else want to

  132. try? Anyway, I'm just

  133. since all of y'all said she never cries

  134. at all. Well, there you go. All right.

  135. So, anyway, um friends and family day,

  136. May the 24th, remember that. And, uh the

  137. service times that day. Morning service

  138. will be normal. And then afternoon,

  139. we'll just hang out that afternoon, have

  140. music by by grace and have some games

  141. and things out here in the back parking

  142. lot. And then the evening service will

  143. be at 4:30 that day on the 24th. And

  144. depending on how hot it is, we may do it

  145. outside. I'll ask the preacher how he

  146. feels about it. Brother Don Anderson

  147. will be here with us that evening. And

  148. so we want to make sure he's taken care

  149. of uh that night. So um the 24th will be

  150. friends and family day. And so remember

  151. that. And uh then be praying as well.

  152. June's going to be a busy month. Got a

  153. lot of stuff going on. Bible school,

  154. Father's Day, homecoming, youth Sunday.

  155. Um a lot of stuff going on. So just keep

  156. praying about all of that and praying

  157. that God would help and bless uh in

  158. everything that we do here at the

  159. church. And just pray that God would

  160. touch it. Amen. And uh so remember these

  161. dates if you could please. And is there

  162. anything else I need to bring up?

  163. >> Yeah, team camp registration. You see

  164. Abby about that for the registration for

  165. power of two there in Georgia in the

  166. month of July. So see her if you have

  167. questions about that. We need to get

  168. those turned in directly. Okay. So

  169. remember that. All right. All right. I

  170. think that's all I'll make mention of

  171. tonight. Let's get to our prayer request

  172. this evening. Let's continue to remember

  173. all the requests of prayer has been made

  174. mention of. container member, Miss

  175. Rhonda Southern, and she is going on

  176. Friday uh there to have another

  177. examination done on her foot and to see

  178. whether or not they're going to have to

  179. remove more of that. So, if y'all would

  180. pray for her, especially on Friday,

  181. let's continue to remember all of our

  182. shutins and pray for them. Miss Barbara

  183. Mandarin, let's remember her in prayer.

  184. Donnie and Die Scott and Donnie and

  185. Sarah Joe Abbott. Has anybody heard from

  186. Miss Sarah Joe? Miss Rose, you heard

  187. anything from her about Donniey's test?

  188. Okay.

  189. >> Okay. Let's remember that in prayer.

  190. Continue to pray for them if you would

  191. please. And uh

  192. let's continue to remember uh uh brother

  193. Todd and Miss Janet Duggin. And did see

  194. there on the message that they came

  195. through everything well. And so continue

  196. to pray for them. Did see Miss Janet's

  197. in some pain. So if y'all wouldn't

  198. remember her in prayer. Let's continue

  199. to pray for the family. Michelle, I've

  200. not heard anything, brothers.

  201. So no, no new no new news. Okay. So we

  202. was over there with them on Sunday

  203. night. Pray for their family and pray

  204. for her daughter especially and uh was

  205. there with them Sunday evening after

  206. church and watched her daughter giving

  207. her her medicine. And I can't imagine

  208. how that must feel for her. And how old

  209. is she? probably 18 20s. So, if y'all

  210. would please pray for that family and

  211. pray that God would be with them uh

  212. during that time and so and no new news.

  213. So, just pray for them if you would. All

  214. right. And and their family, Michelle,

  215. all of those. So, does anybody else have

  216. a request of prayer tonight before we

  217. pray? Yes, sir.

  218. Amen. Let's continue to pray um for John

  219. and pray God would work in his life.

  220. Amen. Been praying for him uh for this

  221. time. and praying God would move and

  222. work. I tell you this, it takes God to

  223. make these types of things happen. And

  224. uh you know Jesus said those disciples,

  225. there was a man come to him said they

  226. brought their son to the disciples and

  227. he had a demon. Remember what they said?

  228. Said that he said your disciples

  229. couldn't cast him out. And you remember

  230. what Jesus said, "This cometh this kind

  231. cometh not out but by prayer and

  232. fasting."

  233. >> Right?

  234. >> Amen. And I believe that. I believe

  235. that. And so let's continue to pray for

  236. John. Let's pray for uh sister Don and

  237. brother Eric as well and pray for them.

  238. Lord, continue to give them strength. I

  239. appreciate them being faithful to church

  240. these days. And let's pray for them this

  241. evening. Someone else tonight before we

  242. pray.

  243. Yes, ma'am.

  244. All right, let's remember those

  245. requests.

  246. >> Someone else tonight.

  247. >> Amen.

  248. >> Praise the Lord for that.

  249. >> All right. Amen. Just remember that

  250. someone else tonight. Yes, ma'am.

  251. Amen. Let's remember that this evening.

  252. Someone else tonight. Yes.

  253. and remember

  254. my sister.

  255. >> All right, let's remember those requests

  256. for prayer.

  257. Okay.

  258. >> All right. Just remember that. Someone

  259. else have a request tonight? Yes, sir.

  260. Brother Todd.

  261. >> Yes.

  262. Amen. Let's remember Sister Mary Lou in

  263. prayer.

  264. And uh she done had had a better week

  265. this week.

  266. >> Good.

  267. All right. Let's continue to pray for

  268. her this evening. Remember her in

  269. prayer. Yes, sir. Brother Mike.

  270. All right,

  271. we won't. Don't worry. Amen. Amen. Let's

  272. remember that. Let's remember brother

  273. Mike, too. Pray for him and uh

  274. pray for Miss Carolyn tonight. Someone

  275. else this evening. Yes, ma'am.

  276. >> Okay.

  277. >> All right. Let's remember

  278. Doug and Kay in prayer.

  279. Someone else tonight. Yes, ma'am.

  280. All right, let's remember that this

  281. evening.

  282. Remember Miss Jean's family in prayer.

  283. Someone else tonight. Yes, sir.

  284. My goodness. Yeah, let's remember that.

  285. >> Yeah, let's do remember that. Pray for

  286. that this evening.

  287. All right, let's remember that. Let's

  288. remember that request of prayer this

  289. evening. Someone else over here. Yes,

  290. sir.

  291. All right.

  292. >> All right. You said his name was

  293. Everett.

  294. >> Everett.

  295. >> All right. Just remember that.

  296. Anything else this evening?

  297. >> Hey. Yes, sir.

  298. If

  299. pray

  300. hospital,

  301. >> I'll do that. I'll do that. Just

  302. remember that request a prayer this

  303. evening.

  304. If y'all would pray for a friend of mine

  305. um found out just I don't know probably

  306. guess a week ago that uh his wife um I

  307. don't guess the baby was still born but

  308. she she did have a miscarriage and they

  309. did have to remove the baby. And so

  310. y'all please pray. She put out a

  311. Facebook post there talking about how

  312. hard it was to to see that and then to

  313. have to leave the baby there at the

  314. hospital and go home. And so if y'all

  315. would please pray for them and Luke and

  316. Cheyenne Ponder is their names and but

  317. please pray for them. God help them

  318. during this time as they go through

  319. that. Amen. Is any other request of

  320. prayer tonight before we pray?

  321. Yes.

  322. Yes. Let's remember

  323. brother Randall, sister Kea in prayer,

  324. their travels and do pray for their

  325. family as well and sister and sister

  326. sister-in-law pray for them and Kea's

  327. mom Sher and remember them in prayer

  328. this evening. Anything else tonight

  329. before we pray.

  330. All right, let's remember our

  331. missionaries tonight. do always pray for

  332. them uh each time that you pray and pray

  333. for each other and our church and I pray

  334. that God would bless and help us keep us

  335. strong and encourage these days.

  336. Appreciate his blessing on us and the

  337. good services that we've had of late.

  338. Thank him for that and I pray it

  339. continues. Pray the Lord continue to

  340. give us liberty and uh let's pray for s

  341. some salvation to happen. Amen. I'd love

  342. to see some people get saved. Amen. And

  343. uh been too long and I I think about

  344. this a lot of times. I knew a man my dad

  345. talked about a Bible college professor.

  346. I don't know if it was particularly one

  347. that he had or it was one maybe that he

  348. knew of uh said that this gentleman

  349. would go every day and he would walk

  350. around shopping centers until he could

  351. win somebody to the Lord and he wouldn't

  352. go to sleep until he had won somebody to

  353. the Lord. And uh you know I was thinking

  354. about that. That's a that's a fery we

  355. ought to get a hold of. Amen. And these

  356. people dying and going to hell left and

  357. right. And we ought to do everything we

  358. can to win them. Amen. And I know it's

  359. hard to do those type of things, but I'm

  360. I'm telling you, Jesus is that concerned

  361. about their soul. Amen. And I don't know

  362. about you, but I'm thankful there was

  363. somebody concerned enough about mine.

  364. Amen. That they prayed for me. Amen. And

  365. I got saved by the grace of God. And

  366. I'll tell you, there ain't nobody ever

  367. been saved apart from prayer. Amen. And

  368. I do appreciate God's blessing. Man,

  369. it's just good to be saved tonight.

  370. Amen. And we can be hum drum and ho hum

  371. and all the rest of those lowly things.

  372. Amen. But I'm telling you, God is good.

  373. Amen. He is good. And I appreciate his

  374. blessings and I appreciate you being

  375. here this evening. Is there any other

  376. requests of prayer tonight?

  377. All right, let's come pray around the

  378. altar. Do pray for the classes tonight

  379. and the teachers. Pray God will bless

  380. and I pray God will help us in here

  381. tonight as we look through the word of

  382. God. And uh let's do tonight. Remember

  383. our graduates got several they graduate

  384. some high school, some college and be

  385. praying for them. And these days, some

  386. young ones be moving up from middle

  387. school to high school. We praying for

  388. them. And all the young ones will be

  389. moving grades. Well, some of them

  390. probably won't. Amen. If that was be

  391. like me. Amen. But uh anyway, I'm just

  392. saying let's pray for them, too. Amen.

  393. And uh Amen. It's all right to laugh.

  394. Amen. Let's pray and ask God to help us

  395. tonight. I do appreciate each one of you

  396. and love you in the Lord. Let's pray

  397. together tonight.

  398. Alrighty. Genesis chapter 12 tonight if

    Genesis 12 chapter mention

  399. you have a Bible. Genesis chapter 12.

    Genesis 12 chapter mention

  400. And uh

  401. we'll look here again this evening. And

  402. I've been looking forward to this today.

  403. And uh I realized on this past Sunday

  404. night I was preaching. I really didn't

  405. finish my message. And uh I was thinking

  406. about it. I posed the question uh on

  407. Sunday night u concerning u why

  408. rebellion brings confusion. I'll give

  409. you the outline. I ain't going to preach

  410. it tonight. There's a whole another

  411. message here uh that I didn't deal deal

  412. with, but I'll give it to you. You might

  413. want to write it down. Go study it for

  414. yourself, but Genesis 11 where we

  415. preached that on Sunday night. I my

  416. outline was rebellion uh causes

  417. confusion. Of course, Nimrod is

  418. rebellion. And that confusion deals with

  419. the tower that of Babel. That city Babel

  420. means confusion. And Nimrod built that

  421. city. And so, uh we titled that

  422. rebellion why rebellion brings

  423. confusion. And I put these thoughts in

  424. my Bible here. Didn't preach them Sunday

  425. night, but uh number one, rebellion

  426. brings confusion because it's not our

  427. design. We wasn't made to be rebellious

  428. against God. We were not made to be that

  429. way. We were made to be obedient and

  430. submissive to the Lord. And so

  431. rebellion, number one, is not our design

  432. from the beginning. God didn't make us

  433. that way. We were made in his image. And

  434. so number two, not only rebellion is not

  435. our design, but number two, rebellion is

  436. not desirable. You've never seen anybody

  437. living in rebellion that enjoyed it.

  438. That's right.

  439. >> Amen. Um it's not a fruitful life. It's

  440. not a faithful life. It's not an

  441. enjoyable life. And so rebellion's not

  442. our design. It's not desirable. And then

  443. thirdly, I thought about this. It's not

  444. only not our design and not desirable,

  445. but it's not our destiny.

  446. >> Right?

  447. >> And uh I'll say this about that. When

  448. God had to go and confound the language

  449. of those people in that city, you know

  450. what? God didn't want to do that.

  451. >> And he didn't have to do that. But

  452. because of their sin, he did.

  453. >> Right?

  454. >> They would have never had to do that if

  455. they'd have just been obedient to God.

  456. And you see tonight, you shape who you

  457. end up to be. What? But what became

  458. their destiny did not have to be their

  459. destiny. Amen. And so there's the

  460. outline that I gave you why rebellion,

  461. amen, causes confusion. So maybe next

  462. time I'll do a better job preaching.

  463. Amen. But Genesis 12, let's look here

  464. tonight and going to begin studying the

  465. life of Abraham uh this evening. We'll

  466. really begin reading in Genesis 11 and

  467. try to lay out the background of his

  468. life here in the text. Genesis 11 verse

  469. number Let's begin reading in verse

  470. number uh verse number 26 of Genesis 11.

  471. Your Bible says and Tara lived 70 years

  472. and begat Abram Nahor and Haran. Now

  473. these are the generations of Terara.

  474. Terara begat Abra Abram Nahor and Haran

  475. and Haran begat Lot and Haran died

  476. before his father Terara in the land of

  477. his nativity in of the Caldes. And Abram

  478. and Nahor took them wives. The name of

  479. Abram<unk>'s wife was Sarai. And the

  480. name of Nahor's wife Milkeyi. Milka the

  481. daughter of Haran the father of Mila and

  482. the father of Iska. But Sarai was

  483. barren. She had no child. And Terara

  484. took Abram's son. and Lot the son of

  485. Haran his son's son and Sarai his

  486. daughter-in-law his son Abram<unk>'s

  487. wife and they went forth with them from

  488. the cowes to go into the land of Canaan

  489. and they came unto Haran and dwelt there

  490. and the days of Tara were 205 years and

  491. Terara died in Haran chapter 12 and

  492. verse number one the Bible says now the

  493. Lord had said unto Abram get thee out of

  494. thy country and from thy kindred and

  495. from thy father's house unto the land

  496. that I will show thee, and I will make

  497. of thee a great nation, and I will bless

  498. thee, and make thy name great, and thou

  499. shalt be a blessing, and I will bless

  500. them that bless thee, and curse them

  501. that curse thee, and in thee shall all

  502. families of the earth be blessed." So

  503. Abram departed, as the Lord had spoken

  504. unto him, and Lot went with him. And

  505. Abram was 70 and five years old when he

  506. departed out of Haran. Father, I ask you

  507. for just a moment, Lord, that you would

  508. help us tonight. I thank you for Bible

  509. study. But God, I just want it to be

  510. what you want it to be tonight. If you'd

  511. have me to preach, help me preach, Lord.

  512. And I just pray you'd help me to expound

  513. the word of God well. Give me uncction,

  514. liberty tonight. Cleanse me of all sin.

  515. Father, use me. Make me fit. God, I pray

  516. that you'll help me tonight. Get all

  517. glory unto yourself. And I pray for each

  518. individual that's here tonight. Lord, I

  519. thank you uh God for them being here. I

  520. pray you bless them for their presence.

  521. But God, I pray that they would receive

  522. a blessing from your word tonight, Lord.

  523. Some instruction, Lord, to help them go

  524. on another mile, some encouragement.

  525. Lord, I pray you'd help us tonight uh to

  526. be obedient to the word of God. Lord,

  527. you said obedience is better than

  528. sacrifice. And so, Lord, help us to

  529. hearken to the word of God tonight.

  530. Lord, we love you. Thank you for loving

  531. us in Jesus name. Amen. Genesis 11

  532. begins here the genealogy. It began with

  533. the study of this city of Babel in the

  534. text and then it leaves off in verse

  535. number 10 with the generations of Shim.

  536. Now, if you know anything about the

  537. Bible, the origin of Israel, the godly

  538. family comes through the Shemmites. And

  539. so, when you hear the phrase, I don't

  540. know, you probably already connected

  541. this, but we you hear the phrase in our

  542. country a whole lot today of

  543. anti-semitism.

  544. And what that is is that Seemetic, the

  545. Seemetic people are Shim's children.

  546. That's what that refers to. And so

  547. people anti-semites are people who are

  548. against Shim's children. That's what

  549. that means. And so Shim's genealogy is

  550. given in chapter number 11 verse number

  551. 10 down through uh the end of the

  552. chapter ending up with the death of

  553. Tara, Abram's father in the text. Now

  554. Abram of course in this text would go on

  555. to be Abraham. Sarah Sarai his wife

  556. would go on to be Sarah. But this is the

  557. beginning portion of Abram's life. And I

  558. want to just lay the history of his life

  559. out of this text. Try to draw a

  560. correlation and connect all of this

  561. together. Let me say this tonight. The

  562. first 12 chapters of the Bible

  563. encompassed some 2,000 years. What we've

  564. read about here in chapter number 11 has

  565. accomplished some 2,000 years of

  566. history. And from Genesis 12 on through

  567. the rest of the Old Testament would be

  568. another approximately 2,000 years. And

  569. so without these first 12 chapters of

  570. the book of Genesis, you would miss a

  571. big picture really where all the uh the

  572. uh knots and loose ends are tied up

  573. throughout the Old Testament. All the

  574. principles that we find in the law of

  575. Moses and everything that goes on from

  576. that comes from these 12 chapters. And

  577. so this beginning portion is important.

  578. And I definitely want to highlight here

  579. Abram's life. I want to give you just

  580. some things concerning Abram here in the

  581. text. When Abram comes on the scene in

  582. Genesis 12, the first thing that's

  583. mentioned in Genesis 12 verse number one

  584. is notice those first five words.

  585. There's a word that comes from God. Look

  586. what the Bible says. Now the Lord had

  587. said, now to put this in a timeline

  588. period, it's been 422 years since God

  589. spoke to Noah in Genesis chapter number

  590. 9 and verse number one. And so Noah has

  591. been dead approximately 75 years or

  592. maybe a little more than that at this

  593. point in time because he lived 350 years

  594. after the flood. And so to tie all of

  595. this together, I want you to think about

  596. this with me for just a minute. When the

  597. earth was divided, when the languages

  598. were scattered according to the text,

  599. Noah was still alive.

  600. Noah was still alive. Noah was alive.

  601. Sheam and Japheth were alive. You can

  602. read that according to chapter number

  603. 10. If you notice in verse number 25 of

  604. Genesis 10, the Bible says in in verse

  605. 25, "And unto Eber were born two sons.

  606. The name of one was Pelleg. For in his

  607. days was the earth divided, and his

  608. brother's name was Jockan." And so Pleg

  609. was in that line of Shin. And that's

  610. just a few generations down from Noah in

  611. this text. And so Noah was still alive

  612. at the dividing days in those days. And

  613. you say, "How is that, preacher?" Well,

  614. Noah witnessed everything that

  615. transpired. And you think about this,

  616. the sin that we preached on in Noah's

  617. life, Noah watched the people that he

  618. had saved off of the ark. He watched

  619. them go down. You're

  620. >> right.

  621. >> And so what we discover in our text

  622. where Terara is finding himself in verse

  623. number 27, the Bible says in verse 27,

  624. "Now these are the generations of

  625. Terara. Terara began Abram, Nahor, and

  626. Haran. And Haran begat law. And Haran

  627. died before his father. Notice this. In

  628. the land of his nativity. All right,

  629. that's the land of its birth. Look at

  630. this. In of the cowes. Now, if you look

  631. up that land of the cowes, that is

  632. literally another city in the plain of

  633. Shinar. And you look at the text in

  634. chapter number 11 verse number two.

  635. Those uh Babel people, amen, those ones

  636. those the people that had came there

  637. with Nimrod, they f found a plane in the

  638. land of Shinar. And so obviously

  639. Terara's family when the dispersion took

  640. place was not one of the families that

  641. was sent out. Okay? And because in this

  642. text the Bible said in verse number

  643. eight that the Lord scattered them

  644. abroad. So obviously Tara and his

  645. children, all I know this is deep, all

  646. right, but just stay with me, okay? Tara

  647. and his children obviously stayed right

  648. there in the city. They stayed right

  649. there local to the plain of Shinar. They

  650. stayed in this place. And I want to give

  651. you a few things about Abram's life. You

  652. see in this text uh four things by way

  653. of introduction. I'll give you one

  654. point. We'll be done. What I notice

  655. about Abram's life. First of all, we see

  656. in this land that he is living here in

  657. the text is is that Abram is already

  658. it's already presented to us that Abram

  659. is living amidst blasphemy.

  660. >> Right?

  661. >> You say, how can you prove that? Well, I

  662. can prove it scripturally by this text.

  663. First of all, notice what the Bible says

  664. in the book of Joshua. Joshua chapter

  665. number 24.

  666. This record is given.

  667. Joshua chap ch ch ch ch ch ch ch ch ch

  668. ch ch ch ch ch ch ch ch ch ch ch ch ch

  669. ch ch ch ch chap number 24 and verse

  670. number two. All right, I'm gonna give

  671. you the proof from the wording in the

  672. text, but this is Bible proof. You can't

  673. argue with this. All right, Joshua 24

  674. and verse two. The Bible said and Joshua

  675. said unto all the people, "Thus saith

  676. the Lord God of Israel, your fathers

  677. dwelt on the other side of the flood in

  678. old time, even Terara, the father of

  679. Abraham and the father of Nor." Notice

  680. that last phrase, what does it say? and

  681. they served other gods. So they're

  682. according to Joshua they're serving

  683. other gods but I can tell you from a

  684. proof number one by their location

  685. they're living in of the cowes it was a

  686. place of moon worship when you look up

  687. that word it was a central point of

  688. astrology and uh I what's the other word

  689. you you use for that soothsaying I guess

  690. would be the word that you would use

  691. there was moon worship and stargazing

  692. that went on here doesn't that sound

  693. familiar with that tower that whose top

  694. would reach unto heaven, amen, to the

  695. skies. And so this land, this whole

  696. plane of Shinar was engrossed in this

  697. sin. And when you look up that word, it

  698. doesn't only speak of a center of moon

  699. worship, but it also means, it literally

  700. means a flame, a burning. Now, what did

  701. we talk about that city of Babel? They

  702. were making brick in verse three,

  703. burning them thly. The Bible says it was

  704. a place of great industry. Let me say

  705. this. The reason where our country began

  706. to go off the rails is when prosperity

  707. took hold of our nation.

  708. >> You can go back and see the days of the

  709. industrial revolution is when wickedness

  710. began to run rapid in this land. You can

  711. look at early society. Some of you may

  712. know a little bit about this. I I

  713. enjoyed studying it coming up, not

  714. because I enjoyed studying about sin,

  715. but I remember studying about the

  716. Roaring 20s. Has anybody ever heard

  717. about the roaring 20s and everything

  718. that went on in those days? The days

  719. prohibition days and everything that

  720. went on that all of that was birthed out

  721. of a country who had become prosperous

  722. industrially. And what this land here

  723. represents is a prosperous place. Yes,

  724. God dispersed the people and so he

  725. divided them up, sent them all over the

  726. face of the earth, but this city still

  727. became a central point for sin. And I

  728. remind you again, Babel all the way

  729. through the Bible to the book of

  730. Revelation, today's yet future from us

  731. is still going to be a wicked city.

  732. >> You're right.

  733. >> Still, it's it system is still here.

  734. There's going to be a Babylonian revival

  735. in the end of the days. And that the

  736. Assyrians, they're going to rise up

  737. again. Amen. And reappear on the face of

  738. the earth. I'm not preaching that

  739. tonight. But what I'm telling you is

  740. when this started, it did not end.

  741. >> You're right. When wickedness took hold,

  742. it did not end. And so Terara and his

  743. family are living in this land of the

  744. Caldes. It's a land Abraham was Abram

  745. was dealing with blasphemy. So his

  746. religious background is not good. Okay?

  747. He's he's living amidst wickedness. But

  748. I notice this. Not only there's

  749. blasphemy in his life, but I'll say this

  750. to make matters worse. There's

  751. barrenness in his life. Look what the

  752. Bible says. Verse 29. Abram and Nahor

  753. took them wives. The name of

  754. Abram<unk>'s wife was Sarai. And the

  755. name of Nahor's wife, Mila, the daughter

  756. of Haran, the father of Mila, and the

  757. father of Iska. But Sarai was barren.

  758. She had no child. Now, it interests me

  759. why that God puts that out there at the

  760. very first. One of the first things that

  761. he says about Abram is that Sarah was

  762. barren. Well, you understand everything,

  763. and I'm not going to get ahead of myself

  764. here, but everything that has to do with

  765. Abram's life, everything that God tells

  766. him is hinging upon her barrenness.

  767. >> You're right.

  768. >> And you understand barrenness in this

  769. day was a lot bigger deal than it is

  770. now.

  771. >> You're right.

  772. >> I'll say this, there's some families

  773. that uh some ladies that are barren, and

  774. it is a big deal to them, but our

  775. country almost celebrates barrenness

  776. anymore, seeming like I don't understand

  777. that. Amen. But when you look at this

  778. culture, the only thing that these

  779. ladies had to be honored because women

  780. were not highly esteemed the way that

  781. they are in our day and time or the way

  782. they should be. I believe they are in

  783. good bibleelving churches. These this

  784. time if she could not bear children, she

  785. was rendered useless by society. This is

  786. Abram's wife. So they're living amidst

  787. blasphemy. His wife is barren in the

  788. text and then there's a barrier in his

  789. life. Notice what the Bible says in

  790. verse 31. What's that first phrase of

  791. verse 31? And Terara what? Took Abram.

  792. He's got a daddy that's got a hold of

  793. him.

  794. He's controlling his life. All right,

  795. don't lose that thought. Okay, notice

  796. the text. Terara took Abram his son and

  797. Lot the son of Haran his son's son and

  798. Sarah his daughter-in-law his son

  799. Abram<unk>'s wife and they went forth

  800. with them from the Caldes to go into the

  801. land of Canaan and they came unto Haran

  802. and dwelt there. Now what happens in

  803. this text is as they make a journey out

  804. of the Caldes and to go unto the land of

  805. Canaan would be several hundred miles uh

  806. to leave the Caldes to get unto Canaan.

  807. And so they go just a short distance,

  808. probably uh 100 or so miles. I don't

  809. know exact distance, but they leave the

  810. Caldes and go unto Iran and they stop

  811. there. And and obviously it's because

  812. Terara in his old age according to verse

  813. 32. Look what the Bible says. And the

  814. days of Terara were 205 years and Tara

  815. died in Haran. And so uh Abram's father

  816. has held him back. He's journeying to go

  817. to Canaan. They're headed there, but his

  818. family is holding him back. And if

  819. that's not enough, he's living amidst

  820. blasphemy. His wife is barren. His

  821. father's a barrier barrier unto him.

  822. Verse 32, you think about the brokenness

  823. of his family.

  824. He loses his daddy.

  825. He's already lost a brother. Notice the

  826. text. Haran's already died. Nahor, he

  827. left behind in the Caldes. And so the

  828. family here in the text, according to

  829. the text, he's lost everything except

  830. his wife. And now he's got to take care

  831. of Lot, his nephew. And so his family's

  832. broken up. And you say, "Why are you

  833. telling us all of that?" Well, this is

  834. the story of Abram.

  835. >> You're right.

  836. >> This is his story. But you see, it all

  837. begins to change in chapter 12. And I

  838. just want to remind you tonight, where

  839. you're at is not the end.

  840. >> You're right.

  841. >> Right.

  842. >> Amen. Just because your story is broken

  843. right now, don't mean it's going to be

  844. broken forever. Amen.

  845. >> Notice the text. Now the Lord had said

  846. unto Abram, "Get thee out of thy

  847. country, from thy kindredom, from thy

  848. father's house, unto a land that I will

  849. show thee." Now, I want to deal for just

  850. a few minutes tonight with the call of

  851. Abraham here in this text. All right?

  852. So, it's been 420 years since God has

  853. spoken audibly to somebody. Genesis 9,

  854. he spoke there unto Noah. And uh we know

  855. that it's recorded on the pages of

  856. scripture and and it it's very well

  857. possible that God spoke unto the people.

  858. I don't know. He may have spoke unto

  859. Eber or Pleg there in the text when he

  860. divided the languages. I don't know. We

  861. can't verify that. But we know it's been

  862. some time since God has spoken to these

  863. people. He's distanced himself because

  864. of their sin. But the Bible says in

  865. verse number one that God's speaking

  866. again. Boy, aren't you thankful when

  867. it's been a while? Amen.

  868. >> Amen. When you ain't heard his voice in

  869. a while, he's got something to say.

  870. >> Right.

  871. >> And I'll tell you this, I'm thankful I

  872. know his voice.

  873. >> Amen.

  874. >> He said, "My sheep know my voice."

  875. >> And Abram here in the text, God calls

  876. out to him for the first time. Of

  877. course, we remember Abram's living in a

  878. s amidst a sinful world. He's his wife

  879. is barren. There's there's been great

  880. anguish because of the death of his

  881. father. And then I noticed this phrase

  882. in verse number one. Now the Lord, what

  883. your Bible say had said. It doesn't say

  884. the Lord said. It said the Lord had

  885. said. So what that reveals is that there

  886. was a command that had been given unto

  887. this man.

  888. Now let me say this. All right. What do

  889. we know from the Bible about obedience?

  890. Delayed obedience is what? Disobedience.

  891. Just because when when you think about

  892. the fact that you've been commanded to

  893. do something and and you're waiting. All

  894. right? You're refusing to do that thing.

  895. You're delaying. All right? The whole

  896. time that you're waiting, you're in

  897. disobedience.

  898. >> You're right.

  899. >> Well, I'll go on and do it. Well, you

  900. can't get back all those days that you

  901. wasted.

  902. >> You're right.

  903. >> You get what I'm saying? Well, what we

  904. notice in this text here is that God had

  905. already spoke to Abram. Now, there's

  906. some writers that would want to argue

  907. this fact, but the New Testament sheds

  908. some light on this. Turn with me to the

  909. book of Acts, chapter number 7.

  910. Acts, chapter 7. I want you to listen to

    Acts 7 chapter mention

  911. Stephen's sermon. All right. Stephen's

  912. going to be stoned. We know the story.

  913. Stephen's going to get stoned for

  914. preaching the gospel. But thank God,

  915. he's going to preach from Genesis to to

  916. all the way to where he knows. Amen.

  917. Before he gets stoned. Amen. And I like

  918. it. Praise God. Genesis 7. Listen to

  919. what he says. Look where he begins in

  920. Genesis 7 verse number two. All right.

  921. Genesis 7 and verse two. And he said,

  922. this is Stephen speaking. Men, brethren,

  923. and fathers hearken, the God of glory

  924. appeared unto our father Abraham when he

  925. was in Mesopotamia before he dwelt in

  926. Haran, and said unto him, Get thee out

  927. of thy country, and from thy kindred,

  928. and come into the land which I shall

  929. show thee. Then came he out of the land

  930. of the Chaldanss and dwelt in Haran. And

  931. from thence, when his father was dead,

  932. he removed him into this land, wherein

  933. ye now dwell. So this reveals to us here

  934. in the text that God had spoke to

  935. Abraham back when he was in the land of

  936. the Caldes. God had come to him and

  937. said, "All right, you need to get out of

  938. here." Well, the Bible says they make

  939. their journey. But in verse 31 of

  940. Genesis 11, the Bible says, "And Terara

  941. took Abram." Is that not what your Bible

  942. said? And so the reason I want you to

  943. wanted you to remember that is because

  944. somebody had a bigger control on Abram

  945. than God did.

  946. >> You're right.

  947. >> You got to be careful about who you let

  948. get control of your life.

  949. >> If you're not careful, your your

  950. husband, your wife can get control of

  951. you. Your children can get control of

  952. you. You're

  953. >> right.

  954. >> And when God speaks, you know what you

  955. do?

  956. you locked down. Abram went as far as

  957. Tara could go and didn't go any farther

  958. until Tara was gone. And I noticed from

  959. what Stephen said in chapter 7, look

  960. what he says. He said, "Our father," he

  961. appeared unto our father Abraham when he

  962. was in Mesopotamia, that's the land of

  963. the counties. He appeared to him back

  964. there when he was in the plain, the land

  965. of Shinar, and spoke to him. God had

  966. said to him to go, but you know what?

  967. Abram didn't go because his daddy wasn't

  968. ready to go. I wonder what's holding

  969. people back in our church. I I wonder

  970. what's holding you back from going all

  971. the way with God.

  972. >> You see, I don't know. You say, "Well,

  973. preacher, this really is Abram's

  974. salvation." Well, if you want to be

  975. truthful about it, Abram's salvation

  976. came the moment that God spoke to him.

  977. >> Right.

  978. >> And so, he was given a command to obey.

  979. All right. He was given a command to

  980. obey. And we believe that Abraham

  981. believed God. All right. We we do that.

  982. All right. We believe that. We know that

  983. according to Genesis 15 and verse number

  984. six. And I understand salvation. The Old

  985. Test. I realize every bit of that. But

  986. you understand it's still by faith.

  987. That's

  988. >> right.

  989. >> Abraham had to believe the word of God.

  990. I think Abraham believed when God came

  991. to him when he was an error, but he just

  992. wasn't willing to go yet.

  993. >> You're right.

  994. >> Amen. I think he received it, but he

  995. wasn't ready to put it in practice. And

  996. you know what? I've seen people, there's

  997. a young man that tonight, he's probably

  998. about three years younger than me. He

  999. grew up with him. He lived on my road.

1000. And uh I remember we we grew up together

1001. and uh played ball, rode bicycles,

1002. four-wheelers, all that other stuff. We

1003. grew up on the little farm over there.

1004. And and he didn't have no family, bless

1005. his heart. At one point, mom and dad

1006. even tried to tried to adopt him

1007. different things. It was just just a lot

1008. of different stuff when I was growing

1009. up. I remember this young man, no

  1010. family, his great-grandmother was

1011. raising him and and uh we he come into

1012. our home pretty much lived with us and

1013. we took him to a revival meeting one

1014. night and he got saved. I remember it

1015. just like it was yesterday. I remember

1016. watched him pray that night and it

  1017. wasn't probably I don't know it was just

1018. weeks after that. He disappeared.

1019. I didn't see him no more and broke my

1020. heart cuz I loved him. He was my friend.

1021. But you know what? I I really believe

1022. that boy's saved. But I just believe

1023. because he had no home life.

1024. >> He had nobody to guide him. He had

1025. nobody to give him aid. When he got away

1026. from us, he had no support.

  1027. >> You're right.

1028. >> And so, you know what? He went out and

  1029. he's probably I don't know where he

1030. could be tonight. I heard several years

1031. ago that he was in jail for a time. I

1032. don't know. But this is what I'll tell

  1033. you. I believe that boy's saved, but I

1034. think there's a lot of people like that

1035. that are saved. And I think this is what

1036. happened to them. I think when they get

1037. saved, the devil comes immediately and

1038. he says, "All right, I'm going to ruin

  1039. their testimony."

  1040. >> You're right.

1041. >> So, they can never do anything for God.

1042. They'll spend the rest of their life

1043. wondering. They'll spend the rest of

  1044. their life and won't. They'll be

1045. miserable because of it if they are

1046. saved. Amen. Somebody say, "Amen."

1047. They'll go out there and they'll live

1048. the rest of their life in that mess and

1049. they'll go to heaven when they die. But

1050. the truth is, they never had a chance to

1051. grow because something or someone held

  1052. them back.

  1053. >> You're right. I'm convinced there's

1054. church people that sit in a church pew

1055. their whole life that's allowed one

1056. event in their life of bitterness to

1057. keep them from going forward with God.

  1058. >> You're right.

1059. >> You'll never do anything for God because

1060. he's holding you. What is it that's

  1061. holding you? I don't know what that I

1062. don't know why I'm on that. But but

1063. Abram was held up by his father. Terara

1064. had a grip on him. But when Tara died,

1065. the Bible says in verse 12 and verse

1066. number one, now the Lord had said the

1067. call has been given. The place is

1068. revealed. The call was given to him

1069. while he was in. And we see Abram's

  1070. procrastination.

1071. He waited. Why did he wait? Let me ask

1072. you this. How long do you think Abram

  1073. waited?

1074. Abram waited a long time.

1075. Notice what the Bible says in verse

1076. four. So Abram departed as the Lord had

1077. spoken unto him, and Lot went with him.

1078. Notice this. And Abram was what?

  1079. 705

1080. years old. He was 75 years old in the

1081. text. And from what I've read in the

  1082. scripture, I can't remember exactly. I

1083. tried to find it this afternoon, but I

1084. think Abram lived to be somewhere

  1085. between 120 and 150. So at best, he's

1086. already lived half his life,

1087. >> and he spent a lot of it waiting. I

1088. notice here in this text the place his

1089. procrastination God told him he said get

1090. out. Look at that. Get out of thy

1091. country from thy kindred from thy

  1092. father's house unto a land that I will

1093. show thee. What is God what was God

1094. telling Abram? He was saying all right

1095. you've got to leave the fields.

1096. >> All right that plain shower. You're

1097. going to have to leave the fields.

1098. You're going to have to leave the

1099. family. Look at that. And from thy

1100. kindred. Nahor was still there.

1101. That family was left behind because you

1102. understand Nahor's children were the

1103. wives for Isaac and for Jacob,

  1104. >> right?

  1105. >> Nahor's children. Nahor's daughters,

1106. they stayed behind. But God told Abram,

1107. "Look, you going to have to leave. You

1108. got to get out. Look what Look what the

1109. Bible said. From thy kindred, from thy

1110. father's house, he had to leave the

1111. fields. He had to leave the family." And

1112. you know what? He did do that. But where

1113. did he stop? He couldn't leave the

  1114. father,

  1115. >> right?

1116. >> When a when when when when Terara got to

1117. as far as he could go to Haran, that's

1118. as far as Abram went.

1119. And then I noticed this. You know what

1120. he also didn't leave behind? Because he

1121. didn't leave Tara. He didn't leave the

  1122. false religion either.

1123. You see, Terara brought that with him.

  1124. >> You're right.

1125. >> Terra carried that with him out of the

1126. Caldes. And so it was present in their

1127. lives. You understand that what'll

1128. happen to you is God will speak. But if

  1129. you're not careful, you'll let that

1130. brokenness, that barrier in your life

1131. and that blasphemy will hang around.

1132. What I found is a lot of times and

1133. really all the time when there is a

1134. barrier, when somebody here's what

  1135. happens, okay? And I don't know why I'm

1136. hung up on this, but I'm just going to

1137. hang with it till God says get done.

1138. When somebody gets stopped, you know

1139. what happens in your Christian life when

  1140. you get stopped?

  1141. >> You don't sit still.

  1142. >> You're right. You're right.

1143. >> There's no such thing as sitting still

  1144. in the Christian life.

  1145. >> Come on, preacher.

1146. >> You know what you do when you stop? You

  1147. go backwards. You're

  1148. >> right.

1149. >> Because when that barrier comes up, you

1150. know what was along with that? All of

1151. that blasphemy that his father had

1152. raised them boys in. Remember, that was

1153. the land of their nativity. This is who

1154. they are. And so because he's still

1155. there, he's still stuck with that, God

1156. said, "You got to leave it all." You

1157. say, "Preacher, what is that an image

1158. of?" Well, it's just like when you take

1159. that marriage vow. When that marriage

1160. vow, what's it say? Forsaking all

  1161. others. You're

  1162. >> right.

1163. >> Salvation, Christ, and the church. It's

1164. the image of that marriage vow. And when

1165. you come to him, what are you doing? You

1166. leaving it all behind. Jesus said this.

1167. If any man come unto me and hate not his

1168. father, his mother, his children, his

1169. wife, yay, in his own life also, what

1170. did he say? He cannot be my disciple.

  1171. >> You're right.

1172. >> He wasn't speaking in the sense that

1173. you've got to hate your family. But he's

1174. saying that you've got to love God so

1175. much that it doesn't matter what anybody

1176. else says in your life.

  1177. >> You're right.

1178. >> And if you love God the way you're

1179. supposed to, you'll love them in a way

  1180. you never could have.

  1181. >> You're right.

1182. >> But Abram got held up. And because of

1183. that, not only Abram was held up, but

1184. you know who else was held up? Sarah was

  1185. held up.

  1186. >> You're right.

1187. >> And Lot was too.

1188. Now, we could argue that maybe Lot

1189. wasn't supposed to go with him. But I

1190. think I think Abram wanted to help Lot.

1191. I think Abram could have helped Lot. And

1192. I think Abram's mistake is what caused

1193. Lot sin. But I'm not preaching on that

  1194. tonight. I'm saying procrastination

1195. held him up here in this text. It held

1196. him up. He The father kept him. This

1197. false religion kept him according to

1198. Joshua 24 and verse two. They worshiped

1199. other gods. His father served other

1200. gods. That's obviously pinned somewhere.

1201. Joshua wrote it down. And so I noticed

1202. this. All right. And I'll be done this

1203. evening. I see the the place of the

1204. call. It was when he was there in the

1205. Cales. I see the procrastination

1206. of this call. Abram was not obedient to

1207. go directly. But I'll say this. I think

1208. if there's anything we could get from

1209. this tonight, it's it would be this

1210. encouragement. If the call is still

1211. present, you need to go now.

  1212. >> You're right.

1213. >> Look what the Bible says. Verse number

1214. four. What's them first three words? So

  1215. Abram departed.

1216. >> Yeah, he's 75 years old now, but you

1217. know what? He's decided to go on. I know

1218. a man right now, and I'm going to get

1219. back to the text in a minute, but I know

1220. a man right now running from the call to

1221. preach his entire life. got on up in his

1222. 70s and and I remember telling me this.

1223. I went and preached a revival in the

1224. church he was in. He told me this. He

1225. said, "You know, I've run from it my

1226. whole life." He said, "I feel like the

1227. best thing I can do is do it what time I

1228. got left." Said, "I regret wasting all

1229. them years, but this is what I know. God

1230. didn't never take the call from me."

  1231. >> Amen.

1232. >> And so, I'm going to do it what time I

  1233. got left.

1234. See, the emphasis here is is that Abram

1235. was still obedient. We know that God

1236. used him in this text. And I'll say more

1237. about that in just a minute. But when we

1238. think about all that Abram's been

1239. through, remember this, the blasphemy in

1240. his life, the barness of his wife, the

1241. barrier with his father, the brokenness

1242. of his family. But then you see after

1243. obedience and only after obedience, what

1244. what does the Bible say in verse two?

1245. and I will make of thee a great nation

1246. and I will bless thee.

1247. You know when that promise came

  1248. when he obeyed.

  1249. >> You're right.

1250. >> When he obeyed. Now you say, "Preacher,

1251. but the Bible says God had already told

1252. him that." Well, you understand Abram

1253. never got a grip on that

1254. >> until he walked away.

1255. >> Amen. You see some things in your life,

1256. you're ne it's never going to be really

1257. real to you until you step in it. You're

  1258. >> right.

1259. >> The reason why that so many people I

1260. believe who are saved and they struggle

1261. with their salvation, I say it all the

1262. time, the reason they struggle with it

1263. is because they've never stepped into

1264. it. They're saved, but they don't know

  1265. how to enjoy it.

  1266. >> Yeah.

1267. >> Abram didn't get the effect of this

1268. promise until he stepped out.

  1269. >> You're right.

1270. >> He didn't know the blessedness that God

1271. spoke of in this text. And the Bible

1272. says, "I will make of thee a great

1273. nation, and I will bless thee and make

1274. thy name great, and thou shalt be a

1275. blessing." So much preaching in these

1276. verses, you understand God is setting up

1277. a people. Abram is the father of Israel.

1278. But Abram is more than that. Abram is

1279. the father of what you and I are doing

  1280. tonight. You're

  1281. >> right.

1282. >> Turn with me to the book of Romans,

    Romans 4 chapter mention

  1283. chapter 4.

1284. And this is how I want to begin our

  1285. study of Abram's life.

  1286. Romans chapter 4.

    Romans 4 chapter mention

  1287. The Bible says

1288. Romans chapter 4 and verse number

    Romans 4 chapter mention

1289. I really just need to preach the whole

1290. chapter to you, but I'm going to give

1291. you this. All right? and and we'll deal

1292. with this at a later date. Romans 4,

1293. Paul is describing to the church at Rome

1294. faith and works. Now, many writers have

1295. said that Paul in the book of Romans and

1296. James in the Epistle James disagreed

1297. about faith. But here's what I'll say

1298. about that. When James was saying faith

1299. without works is dead, he was not

1300. talking about our salvation. And he was

1301. talking about the outpouring of a of the

1302. spiritfilled life in a Christian. Paul

1303. said himself in Romans 5, he said, "And

1304. the hope is shed. The love of God is

1305. shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy

1306. Ghost which is given unto us." And so

1307. that faith in us is going to have some

  1308. evidence outside. You're

  1309. >> right.

1310. >> Amen. If you're saved, there will be

1311. some evidence of that. But Paul says in

1312. Romans 4, he talks about works. And he

1313. reminds them in chapter number three

1314. that it's not by the deeds of the law.

1315. He says in verse number 28 of Romans 3,

1316. therefore we conclude that a man is

1317. justified by faith without the deeds of

1318. the law. And so it wasn't the keeping of

1319. the law that saved anybody because Abram

1320. was saved long before the law was ever

1321. given. The law came by Moses. But how

1322. was Abram the father of the faith if it

1323. requires the law to be saved? Well, the

1324. Bible says in Romans 4, notice this. The

1325. Bible says in Romans 4 and verse number

1326. one, "What shall we say then that Abram

1327. our father as pertaining to the flesh

1328. hath found? For if Abraham were

1329. justified by works, he hath were of to

1330. glory but not before God. For what saith

1331. the scripture, a quote of Genesis 15:6,

    Genesis 15:6

1332. Abraham believed God, and what? And it

1333. was counted unto him for righteousness.

1334. It was his faith. It was not his works.

1335. It was not what he did that saved him,

1336. but it was him believing in the words of

  1337. God. You're

  1338. >> right.

1339. >> And his faith was evidenced by his

  1340. works.

1341. He lived his life in obedience unto God.

1342. Listen to what he says here in Romans 4

  1343. verse number 20.

1344. Romans chapter 4 and verse 20. Skipping

    Romans 4 chapter mention

1345. over so much truth here, but I I want

1346. you to get this. Okay? Romans 4:20, the

    Romans 4:20

1347. Bible says verse number 19, "He being

1348. not weak in faith, considered not his

1349. own body now dead when he was about a

1350. hundred years old, neither yet the

1351. deadness of Sarah's womb, he staggered

1352. not at the promise of God through

1353. unbelief, but was strong in faith,

1354. giving glory to God. And being fully

1355. persuaded that what he had promised, he

1356. was able also to perform."

1357. He was convinced that God was going to

  1358. do what he said.

  1359. >> You're right.

1360. And you know, the only thing that

  1361. Abraham ever saw

1362. as a fulfillment of his promise, look

1363. with me back in Genesis chapter 12

    Genesis 12 chapter mention

1364. again. Everything that's revealed in

1365. this text, and I wasn't going to deal

1366. with this tonight, but I'll just briefly

1367. touch on it this evening. He says, "I

1368. will make of thee a great nation." Well,

1369. that brings up a problem. His wife's

  1370. barren.

1371. The promise that God gave to him, "I'll

1372. make of thee a great nation." and his

1373. wife is barren. He says, "I'll bless

1374. thee. I'll make thy name great, and thou

1375. shalt be a blessing." Everything that

1376. God is saying to him, Abraham would

1377. never see the land. He would never see

1378. the blessing of God. He would never see

1379. all of this coming into fruition. But

1380. you know what he would see? He would see

  1381. that son.

  1382. >> You're right.

1383. >> And you understand that the blessing of

1384. God's promises, you may never see all

1385. that they entail on this side.

  1386. >> You're right.

1387. Some people in here know that very well.

1388. I was thinking about that just today. I

1389. think about your mom all the time,

1390. Brother Steve. I think about the prayers

1391. she prayed. She never saw them answered

  1392. on this side,

1393. >> but she knows they're answered now.

  1394. >> You're right.

1395. >> And I want to give you this tonight and

1396. I'm done. Okay, I told you I wanted to

1397. really just tie this in with chapter 11

1398. at first. I want you to notice verse two

1399. again or verse number one. He says

1400. number one, verse number one, he said,

1401. "Get thee out of thy country, from thy

1402. kindred, from thy father's house, unto a

1403. land that I will show thee." Notice

1404. that, "A land." Verse two, "I will make

1405. of thee a great nation. I will bless

1406. thee and make thy name great." What was

1407. everything that the Babylonian people

1408. were seeking for in chapter 11?

1409. >> Look what the Bible says. Verse number

1410. four. And they said, "Go to let us build

1411. us a city and a tower whose top may

1412. reach us reach us up unto heaven, and

1413. let us make us a name, lest we be

1414. scattered abroad on the fl the face of

1415. the earth." Verse two, and they found a

1416. plain land of Shine, and they dwelt

1417. there. Everything that they wanted, they

  1418. lost.

1419. >> But God comes to somebody who's just

  1420. unsuspecting.

1421. Oh friend, if this don't help you, you

1422. don't have to remember nothing else I

1423. said tonight, but you better not forget

1424. this. God come to somebody who was not

  1425. looking for anything.

  1426. >> You're right.

1427. >> And said, "Here, I'll give it all to

  1428. you."

  1429. >> Amen.

1430. >> Them people that went seeking for it,

1431. searching for it, trying to attain it on

1432. their own. You know what God did? Said,

  1433. "You can't have it." That's

  1434. >> right.

  1435. >> Aren't you thankful? It's not of works,

1436. >> lest any man should boast.

  1437. >> Right?

1438. >> And when they started strutting their

1439. chest out, talking about the tower,

1440. talking about the city, talking about

1441. the name of Babel, God left him in a

1442. dismay and said, "It's just all

  1443. confusion."

1444. >> But to Abram here in this text, though

1445. his whole family was sinful, God says,

1446. "I'm going to pick you out.

  1447. >> You're right.

1448. >> You're going to be mine, and I'm going

1449. to give you everything that they wanted

  1450. but couldn't have."

1451. >> Amen. and I'll give it to you with no

  1452. cost to you.

  1453. >> Amen.

  1454. >> I don't know the greater picture of

  1455. salvation.

  1456. >> He's given you everything that you can't

  1457. even fathom.

  1458. >> That's right.

1459. >> Do you realize that you don't really

1460. understand the fact that all your sins

  1461. is forgiven?

  1462. >> Right.

1463. >> That your life when it ends on this side

1464. that this is just a a dot

1465. >> in the universe of eternity.

  1466. >> You're right.

1467. >> We have no idea

1468. >> what is waiting for us. Amen.

1469. >> And God says, "I'll promise it to you."

  1470. There's the land. There's the nation.

1471. There's the name. You think about it.

  1472. We've got it tonight. We've got a land.

  1473. We've got a nation that we're part of.

1474. The church of the living God,

  1475. >> right?

  1476. >> And we've got a name.

  1477. >> Amen.

  1478. >> A new name.

1479. >> Written down in glory.

  1480. >> Right.

1481. >> And it's mine. Amen. I'll tell you this.

1482. All this stuff ties up a lot. Get a lot

1483. closer than you think it does. I want to

1484. encourage you tonight. Don't forget the

1485. promise. You say Abram lived 75 years.

1486. Bible says 75. Can you imagine that? I

1487. think about it all time. Say it all the

1488. time. Probably Jeremiah preached for 70

1489. years. Never saw anybody turn to God.

1490. But you know what? He's seeing things

1491. right now that we're going to be seeing

  1492. for long.

  1493. >> Amen.

1494. >> We may not ever see things turn out the

1495. way we want it to. But you just don't

1496. know. You can you you can know this. You

  1497. can expect the unexpected

1498. >> from God. Amen. God will show up and the

1499. cowes. Aren't you thankful for that?

1500. Amen. He'll show up for those people

1501. that's unwanted. Amen. For the most

  1502. part, unwilling. Amen. But I'm I'm

1503. thankful for what little bit of faith.

1504. Amen. He said, "If you just had faith as

  1505. a mustard seed." Amen.

1506. >> Just believe. Amen. Trust the Lord.

1507. Father, thank you for this time. Thank

1508. you for this truth tonight. God, I thank

1509. you, Father, that you chose to bless

1510. Abraham. And Lord, we'll look at on next

1511. time, Father. We know we'll look there

1512. at his ministry and the missionary that

1513. he was and God, what you designed him to

1514. be, Lord, as the father of the Israel,

1515. but the father of the faith. Lord, the

1516. father of all that believe and trust in

1517. you, God. May we just trust you, God. We

1518. know, Father, there's days, Lord, it

1519. feels like we can't track you, but God,

1520. I know that we can still trust you. Help

1521. us trust you, be obedient to you.
