  9. Genesis chapter 12 tonight.

    Genesis 12 chapter mention

  10. Genesis chapter 12. We'll begin reading

    Genesis 12 chapter mention

  11. in verse number four

  12. tonight.

  13. Two messages here in the life of

  14. Abraham. This will be our third this

  15. evening. And uh just praying what the

  16. Lord would have us to do. Series is

  17. good, but series without God is just a

  18. waste of breath. And so, um, I just want

  19. to follow him. Um, but I do believe he's

  20. led us back here again this evening. So,

  21. let's look in verse 4 of Genesis 12

  22. tonight. The Bible says, "So, Ab Abram

  23. departed as the Lord had spoken unto

  24. him, and Lot went with him. And Abram

  25. was 705 years old when he departed out

  26. of Haran. And Abram took Sarah his wife,

  27. and Lot his brother's son, and all their

  28. substance that they had gathered, and

  29. the souls that they had gotten in Haran,

  30. and they went forth to go into the land

  31. of Canaan, and into the land of Canaan

  32. they came. And Abram passed through the

  33. land under the place of Sycam, unto the

  34. plain of Mora. And the Canaanite was

  35. then in the land. The Lord appeared unto

  36. Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I

  37. give this land. And there builded he an

  38. altar unto the Lord, who appeared unto

  39. him. And he removed from thence unto a

  40. mountain on the east of Bethl, and

  41. pitched his tent, having Bethl on the

  42. west, and Ai on the east. And there he

  43. builded an altar unto the Lord, and

  44. called upon the name of the Lord. And

  45. Abram journeyed, going on still toward

  46. the south. Father, I ask you humbly

  47. tonight that you would help us. That I

  48. realize, Father, Lord, that once more, I

  49. have nothing to say if you do not speak

  50. through me. And Lord, I pray that you

  51. would hide the ignorance of my youth.

  52. And Lord, allow me to speak with the

  53. tongue of the learn tonight. Lord, give

  54. me liberty and give me uncction. God, I

  55. pray that you would fill me with the

  56. spirit of God. And Lord, I pray, Father,

  57. Lord, for each person that's here

  58. tonight, God, that you would bless and

  59. touch every life as a result of this

  60. time. May we take your word and apply it

  61. to our hearts and lives. And Lord, may

  62. we live what we read out in shoe leather

  63. these days. God, I thank you for this

  64. church. Please bless each one that's

  65. here. And we'll thank you for it because

  66. we ask it in Jesus name. Amen. Genesis

  67. 12. Of course, we have studied the life

  68. of Abram up to this point in the text.

  69. We have considered uh the beginning of

  70. Abraham. We've considered the

  71. blessedness of Abraham. And if you want

  72. to alliterate it, you can call tonight's

  73. sermon the building of Abraham. But I

  74. just want to look at the text tonight

  75. and simply give you uh what the Lord has

  76. put on my heart this evening. And uh we

  77. noted here concerning the blessedness of

  78. Abraham on last week that it was only

  79. found when Abram stepped out in faith.

  80. And I'm reminded of this fact in my life

  81. and yours that we will never experience

  82. God's blessing in our life until we just

  83. simply obey. And it just seems like

  84. that's been the thought that the Lord

  85. has driven home in every one of these

  86. sermons. It's been the the beginning and

  87. the ending of all of these messages

  88. really. And I want you to notice in the

  89. text tonight, the Bible tells us that

  90. Abram left Haran there in verse number

  91. four when he was 75 years old. Lot is

  92. with him. And the Bible says in verse 5

  93. that he took Sarah, his wife, Lot, his

  94. brother's son, and all their substance

  95. that they had gathered, and the souls

  96. that they had gotten in Haran, and they

  97. went forth to go into the land of

  98. Canaan, and into the land of Canaan,

  99. they came. And so Abram here in the

  100. text, he is finally obeying God. He is

  101. finally doing what God had asked him to

  102. do. But what I find is interesting in

  103. this text, and you could look at it one

  104. of two different ways. I'm going to

  105. choose to look at it in one manner, is

  106. Abram is still hindered in this text.

  107. And you say, "What do you mean by that?"

  108. Well, I notice in verse number five,

  109. four five four things that I want to put

  110. on your heart by way of introduction.

  111. And I don't want you to miss these

  112. thoughts this evening. The Bible says

  113. there in the text that he gathers his

  114. family. Now, it mentions Sarah, his

  115. wife, and Lot, his brother's son. And

  116. so, his family is found there in verse

  117. number five. And then there's also a

  118. fortune that's mentioned there in verse

  119. number five. And all their substance,

  120. their possessions, notice this, that

  121. they had gathered. And then not only

  122. there's his family, his fortune, and

  123. then there is his followers or his

  124. servants. The Bible says, "And the souls

  125. that they had gotten in Haran, and they

  126. went forth to go into the land of

  127. Canaan, into the land of Canaan they

  128. came." And and this thought has been

  129. really just rolling around in my mind.

  130. Abram leaves Haran in this text with a

  131. lot of baggage. You say, "What do you

  132. mean by that?" Well, notice what's said

  133. there in the text. Now God highlights

  134. everything that Abram has. And we know

  135. that later on in Abram's life, it would

  136. be considered a prosper prosperous

  137. blessing. What Abram his blessing was

  138. given to him. It was a land. It was

  139. inheritance. It was a I I guess you

  140. would say a possessional or a monetary

  141. inheritance. But what I find in this

  142. text is Abram's disobedience is

  143. following him. You say, "What do you

  144. mean by that?" Well, the Bible says that

  145. these the souls that are mentioned, the

  146. substance that's mentioned, and also

  147. this son of of uh his brother here in

  148. the text, Lot is mentioned. All of these

  149. were gotten to Abraham in Haran. Now,

  150. what do we know about Haran? Haran was a

  151. place Abram was never supposed to be.

  152. >> Right?

  153. >> Amen. Abram picked up a whole lot of

  154. baggage in Haran because he went to a

  155. place that he was never supposed to go

  156. in the first place.

  157. >> I want to say this to you tonight. You

  158. need to be careful where you spend your

  159. life, what you invest your life in,

  160. where you allow yourself or a husband or

  161. a wife where husband where you allow

  162. your wife to go, wife, where you allow

  163. your children to go. You ought to be

  164. careful where you find yourself because

  165. Abram in this text picked up a lot of

  166. baggage that he would not have had

  167. otherwise.

  168. And the Bible says here in the text that

  169. his future is seen. In verse five, they

  170. went forth to go into the land of

  171. Canaan. And into the land of Canaan they

  172. came. And so we're thankful that Abram

  173. has made it out of where he was. He's

  174. made it out of Haran. He's come into

  175. Canaan land. But we know there's going

  176. to be problems that go from this day

  177. forward. And I don't want you to miss

  178. tonight the truth that's found in this

  179. text concerning the building of Abram.

  180. But Abram's building is going to be

  181. hindered in this text because of his

  182. disobedience. But when Abram finally

  183. leaves the place where he was never

  184. supposed to be, the Bible says that into

  185. the land of Canaan they came and Abram's

  186. 75 years old and he's finally getting

  187. where God has desired for him to be. I

  188. would I would hate to know that I waste

  189. over half of my life

  190. >> just trying to get to the place where I

  191. know I was supposed to be anyway.

  192. And that's what I'm convinced and I I

  193. don't really the the rest of the message

  194. is not this real tone, but just

  195. something that's ringing in my heart

  196. this evening is I'm convinced that 50 to

  197. 75% of Christian saved Bible believing

  198. church people who are faithful, who love

  199. God, will spend the majority of their

  200. Christian life wasting it, wandering

  201. around in a place they never should have

  202. been. You're

  203. >> right.

  204. >> And so I want to exhort you tonight. If

  205. God's telling you to go, get out and go.

  206. I'm not talking about the church. I'm

  207. saying and whatever he's telling you to

  208. do, get out of that place and go where

  209. he's telling you to be. Right?

  210. >> You say, "What is that?" Well, it it

  211. could be anything. You know in your

  212. heart what that is tonight. And so I

  213. notice in this text, you say, "Well,

  214. preacher, if you're telling me that I've

  215. got to go, what what what is the reason

  216. why I should go?" Well, number one, God

  217. told you you should go. You're

  218. >> right. But number two, there's a lot of

  219. things awaiting you over there that

  220. you're not going to realize. You're not

  221. going to be you're not going it's not

  222. going to be revealed to you until you

  223. get there.

  224. And so in the text, I noticed the Bible

  225. says in verse number six, look what your

  226. Bible says. And Abram passed through the

  227. land. He's finally come to the place

  228. where God has desired for him to be. And

  229. we know that the land of Canaan is still

  230. Israel's ownership to this day. Can I

  231. get an amen?

  232. >> Right. That whole land belongs to Israel

  233. and they're going to get it one of these

  234. days regardless what Donald Trump or

  235. Benjamin Netanyahu or anybody else has

  236. to say about it. They will get their

  237. entirety of their land. Amen. God shows

  238. it to Abraham in Genesis chapter 13.

    Genesis 13 chapter mention

  239. We'll look at that in the coming weeks.

  240. But they will inherit that land. And I I

  241. notice what's mentioned in this text.

  242. The Bible says Abram passed through the

  243. land into the place of Syikum unto the

  244. plain of Moa. and the Canaanite was then

  245. in the land. And I want to lay just a

  246. few things I I guess if you uh numbered

  247. them tonight, five things on your heart

  248. concerning what you'll find when you

  249. enter the land of Canaan, the place

  250. where God desired for you to be. I

  251. notice in this text and this is just a

  252. simple simple uh thought directly out of

  253. the verses tonight. I notice first of

  254. all the first place Abram comes to when

  255. he enters into the land of Canaan is a

  256. place called syum. Now when you look up

  257. that word syum in your Bible, it

  258. translates to a city that many of us

  259. would know well is called Sheckchum. And

  260. Sheckchum all through the Old Testament

  261. is mentioned as a place where the word

  262. of God was heard. And I'm not going to

  263. run references tonight because I don't

  264. want to get ahead of myself, but I

  265. simply want to give you the definition

  266. tonight. And so what Abram found when he

  267. entered into the land of Canaan, when he

  268. got out of Haram and when he got to the

  269. place he was finally supposed to be,

  270. number one, I would say Abram found

  271. instruction.

  272. He found instruction. Now, what do I

  273. mean by instruction? Well, the Bible

  274. says he came, he passed through the land

  275. unto the place of Sheckchum. Notice

  276. this. Unto the plane of Mori of Mori.

  277. And so this plane of Mori here in the

  278. text, that word plane literally means a

  279. tree. It's not talking about a piece of

  280. land or a or a a parcel of ground or

  281. even a large parcel of ground. What's

  282. mentioned later on in the text when Lot

  283. chose him all the plain of Jordan. It's

  284. a different word. That word plain means

  285. a tree. And that word mory in the text

  286. means this. It means uh let me get this

  287. get the definition up here. It's teach

  288. it means a teacher or instruction. And

  289. so when Abram come to the place of

  290. Sheckchum here in the text, he come to

  291. this tree in that place called Mory. And

  292. this this tree represents instruction.

  293. Now what's interesting to me in this

  294. text is all the typology that's seen

  295. here in the text. Now Abram has believed

  296. God. He has left his father. He's left

  297. his brethren in the Caldes. He left his

  298. father in Haran. He's finally journeyed

  299. to where God is wanting him to be. And

  300. he gets to this place. And what's the

  301. first thing he finds? A tree.

  302. Now, there's no coincidence in that

  303. tonight. What did Jesus tell his

  304. disciples? Matthew 16:4. I'm just going

    Matthew 16:4

  305. to be real simple tonight because I

  306. believe this is what we need. Amen. He

  307. said this. Matthew 16:24, "If any man

    Matthew 16:24

  308. will come after me, let him deny

  309. himself, take up his cross

  310. >> and follow me." And the truth is, in all

  311. of our lives, when you get to the place

  312. where God wanted you to be, the first

  313. thing you're going to find is a cross.

  314. >> You're right.

  315. >> You're going to find a tree. And what is

  316. this tree represents? It represents

  317. instruction. Now, I mentioned sheckchum

  318. already, but here's what that word

  319. psychum. Sheckchum means in the text it

  320. means shoulder or strength. And so what

  321. I'm finding here what the emphasis of

  322. this text by application sense is Abram

  323. came to this tree and it was a place of

  324. teaching. It was a place of instruction

  325. for him that did what? It gave him

  326. strength. You're not going to find

  327. strength in a church service in an

  328. emotional heightened moment. You're not

  329. going to find strength somewhere uh

  330. having a a spell or on a creek bank or

  331. even on an altar in such a sense as

  332. having an experience. And experience is

  333. not going to give you strength. You're

  334. >> right.

  335. >> Strength comes from instruction. And you

  336. know where instruction comes from?

  337. >> It comes from the word of God. You're

  338. >> right.

  339. >> Prayer functions. What does prayer

  340. function off of? It functions based off

  341. of the scripture. And so if you're

  342. needing strength tonight, if you're

  343. needing encouragement, that word

  344. sheckchum literally means shoulder.

  345. Abram found out when he left Haran, the

  346. place where he was never supposed to be,

  347. he would come to a place called

  348. Sheckchum, the first place he came, and

  349. the name of it means shoulder, he would

  350. find a shoulder to lean on. He would

  351. find strength that he did not have

  352. before.

  353. >> And now, let's be real honest tonight.

  354. How many of you need a shoulder?

  355. >> How many of you need some strength?

  356. That's right.

  357. >> Get out of her.

  358. >> Get out of the place where God never

  359. told you to be.

  360. >> Right.

  361. >> You say, "Preacher, how is that?" And I

  362. keep going back to this because it's

  363. just it's just on my heart right now.

  364. You realize that Haran I did some more

  365. studying on this today. You realize that

  366. Haran between the Caes where Abraham

  367. began, the Bible tells us that God spoke

  368. to him there in Haran and then in the

  369. Caldes and and so when God spoke to him

  370. there, they left there and went to Iran.

  371. Well, Haran is some 600 miles from the

  372. Caldes. But you know how far Haran is

  373. from Canaan's land from where God wanted

  374. him to be? It's about 600 miles. And so,

  375. you know what Abram did? He got halfway

  376. >> and stopped.

  377. You know what? I'm seeing that happen a

  378. lot,

  379. >> right?

  380. >> I'm seeing people put one foot in

  381. and the other one's out.

  382. And here's the thing about the Christian

  383. life. It don't work that way.

  384. >> You're right.

  385. >> You're either fully invested.

  386. You say, "Preacher, well, I'll dab my

  387. toes and what you'll find is you going

  388. to fall off the back and drown." Amen.

  389. on the other side

  390. >> because a double-minded man's unstable

  391. in all his ways. But when ca when when

  392. Abram got to the place where he was

  393. supposed to be, there was instruction.

  394. Now, I know this tonight. We're all

  395. looking for answers. We've got different

  396. problems. We've got different

  397. situations. We are in different places

  398. and we're all looking for instruction,

  399. but it's not going to be found until you

  400. get out of the place where God never

  401. wanted you to be. But when you get to

  402. Canaan land, there will be instruction.

  403. There will be strength. And it comes

  404. through this teaching, this instruction,

  405. this tree. It is your cross. Now, people

  406. talk about a lot of times, you know, my

  407. suffering. You know, well, it's my

  408. cross. No, that's not the way that

  409. works. A cross is something you had long

  410. before your suffering. You're

  411. >> right.

  412. >> If you got saved, what you were called

  413. to do the after you got saved, you were

  414. saved to do what? Serve. Isn't that

  415. right? And so, you know what? Since the

  416. day you've got saved, you've had a cross

  417. to bear, and that is obedience to

  418. Christ.

  419. >> You're right.

  420. >> Amen. Now, there's a lot of things that

  421. get hung on the cross.

  422. There's a lot of things that you need to

  423. hang on the cross.

  424. >> You're right.

  425. >> I'm not preaching this tonight, but I

  426. just I don't know. I'm just trying to

  427. mind the Lord. Okay? Just bear with me.

  428. There's some things in your life that

  429. unless you bring them to that place of

  430. instruction and let them die there, you

  431. know what it'll do? End up taking you

  432. out.

  433. >> You're right.

  434. >> The strength comes through the

  435. instruction that's given at the tree.

  436. Notice this. You see, there's a lot of

  437. things that happen at this tree. And you

  438. say, "Preacher, is instruction the only

  439. thing that happens here?" No. Look what

  440. else takes place here in the text. The

  441. Bible says there in verse number seven

  442. or verse number six, "And Abram passed

  443. through the land under the place of

  444. Syakum under the plain of Mory. And the

  445. Canaanite was then in the land." All

  446. right. Now, you're probably going to be

  447. able to identify a little more with

  448. this. Okay? When you get to the place

  449. where God wants you to be, there'll be

  450. instruction. Well, let me just remind

  451. you of something. There's going to be

  452. some irritation.

  453. >> You're right.

  454. >> Look what your Bible says. And the

  455. Canaanite was what? Then,

  456. >> that's present tense. right now then in

  457. the land. What was the Canaanite people

  458. to Israel? They were a thorn in their

  459. side,

  460. >> right?

  461. >> For all of history. And here's what you

  462. got to realize that just because you're

  463. out of har just because you are headed

  464. to the place where God wants you to be.

  465. You're finally getting there. You are

  466. not free or exempt from struggles.

  467. You're

  468. >> right.

  469. >> You're not exempt from the enemy. Matter

  470. of fact, you're going to meet an enemy

  471. that you never met before when you get

  472. in that lane. You're right.

  473. >> Because look what the Bible says there

  474. in the text. The Canaanite was then

  475. what's them last three words? In the

  476. land. The Canaanites wasn't fought with

  477. on the outside.

  478. >> You're right.

  479. >> You were dealing with yourself. Abram

  480. was fighting with his family. When he

  481. was in Haran, you know what he found

  482. out? When he got over into where God

  483. wanted him to be, then the enemies from

  484. the outside started working in. When he

  485. finally done what God told him to do,

  486. then he realized there's another enemy

  487. that he's going to have to deal with.

  488. And let me say this to you, child of

  489. God. Do not think, listen to me, do not

  490. think that you're ever going to get to a

  491. point in your life as a Christian that

  492. you will not have an enemy.

  493. >> You're right.

  494. >> If you are saved, you have an enemy from

  495. the moment that you were saved before

  496. you were saved. From the moment you were

  497. saved until the day of your death,

  498. >> you're right.

  499. >> You will have an enemy. You say,

  500. "Preacher, but it's but but right now

  501. I'm okay." Well, just beware. You may

  502. not see him.

  503. >> You're right.

  504. You see, this text reveals to us that

  505. when you get to where God wants you to

  506. be, there will be some irritation. And

  507. and the thing about is I think our

  508. problem this day and time is we paint

  509. the Christian life as some pretty rosy

  510. picture that always works out perfectly.

  511. But you know what happen? You know what

  512. the problem with that is? There's people

  513. we pray for that die loss without God.

  514. >> Right?

  515. >> There's people that we witness to that

  516. don't come to church. There's people

  517. that we try to help and try our best to

  518. give them aid, but for some reason they

  519. don't get right. You say, "Preacher,

  520. THAT'S DOOM AND GLOOM." NO, IT'S THE

  521. TRUTH,

  522. >> RIGHT?

  523. >> But that's not to affect you.

  524. >> You see, Abram's present in the land was

  525. not stringent on the Canaanites present

  526. in the land.

  527. >> They would always be present. You're

  528. always going to have problems present in

  529. your life, but you should not allow that

  530. to kick you out of the land.

  531. >> You're right.

  532. >> Getting ahead of myself here, but what

  533. happens just a few verses after this,

  534. Abram goes through all this great

  535. spiritual awakening in this text and

  536. just literally less than six verses

  537. away, Abram leaves the land because he

  538. decides it's too bad there.

  539. You got to stay in spite of the

  540. irritation

  541. there. And there will be, believe me,

  542. irritations. Irritants. Amen. People.

  543. Amen.

  544. >> Right.

  545. >> Some people I think their last names

  546. irritation.

  547. >> Amen.

  548. I'm just being real tonight. They have

  549. no concept of who God is or how God

  550. works. And when you talk to them, you

  551. might as well be talking to that pull

  552. pit trying to talk spiritual sense into

  553. them. And you know the reason why that

  554. is? Number one, they probably not saved.

  555. Number two, if they are, they ain't

  556. never read enough Bible to know right

  557. from wrong or up from down. Amen.

  558. >> Right.

  559. >> And the truth is, you know what that is?

  560. That's a that's an enemy. Not the

  561. person, but that mindset,

  562. irritations.

  563. There's instruction here. There's But

  564. there is irritation here. And I'll say

  565. this, all right? And I don't think I've

  566. got any more negatives after this. The

  567. Lord may change that, but we're going to

  568. try to stay positive. Okay, notice verse

  569. 7. And the Lord appeared unto Abram,

  570. said, "Unto thy seed will I give this

  571. land." Now number three, we see not only

  572. there's instruction, not only there's

  573. irritation, but there is inspiration.

  574. I don't know about you, but in these

  575. days, I need something more than just a

  576. a quote

  577. on a Facebook post to encourage me.

  578. >> Go ahead. I need something that's going

  579. to give me some life. It's going to get

  580. me from one day to the next. Here's what

  581. I think's happened to us. We've become

  582. so shallow, we've forgotten what it's

  583. really like for God to move.

  584. >> Amen.

  585. >> Notice this. The Bible says, "And the

  586. Lord appeared unto Abram." Now, you know

  587. what had not happened since the day that

  588. Abram was in the Caldes? God's not

  589. spoken to him again.

  590. Do you realize that God does not speak

  591. to him while he's in her hand?

  592. >> Right?

  593. >> According to what Steven said in Acts

    Acts 7 chapter mention

  594. chapter 7, Acts chapter 7:2, Steven said

  595. God spoke to him when he was in

  596. Mesopotamia. That was of the Caldes. God

  597. didn't speak to him when he was in Iran.

  598. But he gets to Canaan's land. Who shows

  599. up?

  600. God does. You know why? Because God was

  601. there

  602. >> waiting on him to get there.

  603. >> Amen.

  604. >> You say, "Preacher, well, God's always

  605. with you." You know what I'm saying?

  606. God, you know where you're supposed to

  607. be. And until you get to that place,

  608. God's not going to speak to you

  609. >> the way he did. You say, "Well,

  610. preacher, he spoke to me when I was out

  611. in sin." He ain't obligated to do that

  612. at all. If he does it one time, it's his

  613. grace.

  614. >> Right?

  615. >> Abram was called out of vericalities by

  616. God's grace and that alone. That was it.

  617. God saved you by his grace. But if you

  618. do not follow his will or obey his word,

  619. God is not obligated to speak to you

  620. again. You're

  621. >> right.

  622. >> The Holy Ghost will convict you because

  623. he lives on the inside. But the longer

  624. that you shut that out, the less he will

  625. speak to you. That knocking Jesus talked

  626. about the church of Leosy in Revelation

    Revelation 3 chapter mention

  627. chapter 3, that knocking just gets

  628. quieter and quieter.

  629. And the truth is, if we need some

  630. inspiration, we're going to have to

  631. realize when we get to this place, we're

  632. going to have to have God appear. Now, I

  633. put this in in my in my margin here. You

  634. see, where there's an appearance of the

  635. Lord, there should be an altar

  636. built to the Lord.

  637. You say, "What do you mean?" Well,

  638. notice the text. And the Lord appeared

  639. unto Abram, said unto thy seed, will I

  640. give this land. Notice this. And there

  641. buildeth he what? An altar. He built an

  642. altar. You see, where God shows up, that

  643. ought to be a place you want to come

  644. back to,

  645. >> right?

  646. >> This what I can't figure out for the

  647. life of me. Why would anybody want to

  648. leave a church where God has been has

  649. has moved and we've seen him move and

  650. it's going in the right direction?

  651. >> Why would we walk away from that?

  652. >> Amen.

  653. >> Why would we do that?

  654. >> Here's what it is. It's because our

  655. flesh has decided it's better back in

  656. Haran.

  657. >> You're right.

  658. >> Because you know what? all them

  659. irritations, irritants

  660. that wasn't in her hand or present.

  661. >> You're right.

  662. >> I don't know who needs this tonight, but

  663. I pray that you'll take this. I'll be

  664. honest with you. Truth is for my life. I

  665. understand we all need what I'm saying,

  666. but God's nailing somebody tonight. I

  667. hope you'll listen to him. This

  668. inspiration, you see what what is this

  669. inspiration reveal in the text? Well,

  670. the Lord appeared unto Abram and he

  671. speaks to him and the Bible says, "And

  672. he said, "Unto thy seed will I give this

  673. land." Now, what does that mean? Well,

  674. that phrase speaks of three things.

  675. There's a people under thy seed. There's

  676. a promise will I give. And then there is

  677. a place, this land.

  678. You say, "How what does that fit?" Well,

  679. this is a deeper revelation of what God

  680. is going to do. You remember when Abram

  681. was given the command, notice it just a

  682. few verses earlier, the Bible says in

  683. verse one, he said, "Thy he Abram, the

  684. Lord had said unto Abram, get thee out

  685. of thy country and from thy kindred and

  686. from thy father's house unto a land that

  687. I will show thee."

  688. Abram would have never saw the land if

  689. he hadn't left.

  690. >> Right?

  691. >> But in this text, God gets him to the

  692. pl. He finally gets to the place where

  693. he's supposed to be, and God says, "All

  694. right, this is the land that I'm going

  695. to give to you. what you're treading

  696. upon this belongs to you.

  697. You say, "What is that?" Well, it's the

  698. inspiration. You say, "Preacher, why?

  699. Why should I go on another day?" Because

  700. there's a land that you're called to

  701. inherit.

  702. >> You're right.

  703. >> You know what that is? That's victory in

  704. Christ

  705. >> over yourself. You know what your number

  706. one problem is? Go

  707. >> ahead.

  708. >> It's not the regrets you have. It's not

  709. the fears you have for somebody else.

  710. It's it's not the disappointment you

  711. have in somebody or something else. Your

  712. number one biggest problem is yourself.

  713. You're

  714. >> right.

  715. >> Your reaction, Amen, is more important

  716. than anybody else's action.

  717. >> You're right.

  718. >> Did you hear what I said? Your reaction

  719. is more important and will always be

  720. more important than anybody else's

  721. action. Abram in this text could have

  722. missed a blessing if he hadn't come to

  723. where God told him to be. But you see,

  724. when he got to this place, he realized

  725. that there would be some people who

  726. would be blessed because of his

  727. obedience. There would be a promise that

  728. would be fulfilled because of his

  729. obedience. And this place would be the

  730. symbol

  731. forever of Abram's obedience.

  732. I wonder what land, let me listen to me,

  733. mom and daddy. I wonder what land your

  734. children are to inherit because of your

  735. obedience. But if you don't obey, what

  736. are they going to miss?

  737. >> Right?

  738. >> What inheritance are they going to have?

  739. >> Because we're too afraid to face that

  740. irritation. Go ahead.

  741. this inspiration. He says in the text,

  742. notice that he said, "I unto thy seed

  743. will I give this land." And Abram, look

  744. what his response is there. He builded

  745. an altar unto the Lord who appeared unto

  746. him. You say, "What does that

  747. represent?" Well, I I've said all that

  748. to say these these truths here. There's

  749. instruction. There's irritation. There's

  750. inspiration here. But there ought to be

  751. an indication

  752. when you get to the place where God

  753. wants to be. And what is that? An

  754. indication is not something that God

  755. sets up, but it's something that you put

  756. up to go back to the place where God

  757. showed you something that you couldn't

  758. see. You say, "What is that?" Well, God

  759. didn't write a deed.

  760. >> You're right.

  761. >> All right. Hang with me. Okay. God

  762. didn't give Abram a deed.

  763. >> You're right.

  764. >> That was handwritten by the fingers of

  765. God and said, "This is your land and

  766. sign God at the bottom of it."

  767. >> He didn't do that. You know what? God,

  768. your salvation that you've got, he

  769. didn't write you a letter of salvation.

  770. >> Amen. I know we've got the word of God.

  771. Just hang with me. I'm making a point

  772. here. God didn't write you a letter of

  773. salvation say such and such date, such

  774. and such time, such and such was

  775. preaching. You got saved. sign God on

  776. the bottom of it because that's not how

  777. it works.

  778. >> Right?

  779. >> You say, "How does it work, preacher?"

  780. Well, when God meets with us, he has

  781. designed us in such a way that we're to

  782. mark where he met with us.

  783. >> Right?

  784. >> You say, "Preacher, I don't understand."

  785. Well, you remember when Noah got off

  786. that ark, what was the first thing he

  787. did? Built an altar,

  788. >> right?

  789. >> To remember that God brought him safely.

  790. >> You know what? There was nothing. No, he

  791. couldn't go through that storm again.

  792. Thank God he couldn't. Amen.

  793. But you'd be honest with me tonight and

  794. say there's probably some of you that

  795. wished at some point in time in your

  796. life you could get saved again so you

  797. could feel what it feels like to do it

  798. again.

  799. You know what your problem is? You

  800. didn't set up a marker.

  801. >> You're right.

  802. >> You say, "Preacher, what's that

  803. indication?" Well, let me say this. I I

  804. want to draw your attention back to the

  805. text here for just a minute. Look what

  806. he says. There builded he an altar unto

  807. the Lord. He doesn't only build one

  808. altar in this text, but he builds two.

  809. Look what the Bible says. Verse 8. And

  810. he removed from then unto a mountain on

  811. the east of Bethl and pitched his tent

  812. having Bethl on the west and a on the

  813. east. And what's the Bible say, church?

  814. And there he builded an altar unto the

  815. Lord. So here he builds a second

  816. indication. All right. He comes into the

  817. land. the first place he goes, that

  818. place of instruction, that place of

  819. strength, that place of encouragement,

  820. that place where he found the shoulder

  821. that he would need to lean on for his

  822. stay in Canaan land. He leaves that

  823. place, but only after he'd made an

  824. indication.

  825. He set up some tent pegs.

  826. Remember what I believe it was Jeremiah

  827. said? He said, "Remove not the ancient

  828. landmark

  829. which thy fathers have said." You know

  830. why this generation struggles so much?

  831. Because we've watched a bunch of people

  832. go around pulling up landmarks. You're

  833. >> right.

  834. >> Because here's the thing about it. Those

  835. indications in your life, there's so

  836. much I could say about this. All right?

  837. Those indicators in your life are put

  838. there for you to have a place to come

  839. back to.

  840. >> Because in your flesh, just like Abram,

  841. you know what he does just a few short

  842. verses later? He goes back to Egypt. And

  843. I'm getting ahead of myself so much, but

  844. notice what the Bible says in verse one

  845. of chapter 13.

  846. Actually, notice verse three of chapter

  847. 13. After Abram left out of Egypt,

  848. according to verse one, verse three. And

  849. he went on his journeys from the south

  850. even to Bethl unto the place where his

  851. tent had been. What's that say? At the

  852. beginning, between Bethl Ai, unto the

  853. place of the what? Altar. Which he made

  854. there at the first. And there Abram

  855. called on the name of the Lord.

  856. Let me ask you, how long's it been since

  857. you've been back to that place? I'm not

  858. talking about a physical place. I'm

  859. talking about that spiritual place in

  860. your life where you know that God met

  861. with you.

  862. You say, "Preacher, what is that?"

  863. It's not a geographical location,

  864. >> right?

  865. >> You're not going to find it on a map.

  866. But you know what you'll do? There's

  867. some verses that God will give you and

  868. it's all diff different for all of us,

  869. but I got some

  870. indicators stuck up in here in a few

  871. places where God spoke to me at once and

  872. I can go to that verse and you know what

  873. immed immediately will happen to me.

  874. It's a good reason why you write in your

  875. Bible too. You're

  876. >> right.

  877. >> Write dates, times, events when God

  878. helped you. But I can go back to that

  879. place and most time I don't even I don't

  880. even have to have a date or time. I can

  881. look at them flags that stuck up and

  882. find where God spoke to me. There's an

  883. indicator left.

  884. God spoke to you there using this vi

  885. this verse. Notice this. I'm moving

  886. quickly. I need to get done.

  887. When you get to where you're supposed to

  888. be, there ought to be an indication that

  889. you put up, but there also ought to be

  890. some identification that's given.

  891. I ain't got time to labor this point,

  892. but I don't want you to miss this. All

  893. right. The Bible says that when he

  894. removed from Sheckchum in the text in

  895. verse number eight, he removed from

  896. thence unto a mountain on the east of

  897. Bethl and pitched his tent. Notice this,

  898. having Bethl on the west and Ai on the

  899. east. Now, simply put tonight, Bethl

  900. means what, church? The house of God,

  901. right? What does Ai mean? Means a heap

  902. of ruins,

  903. a heap of ashes. You say, "What does

  904. that represent?" tent. Well, notice

  905. where Abram built his altar and pitched

  906. his tent in the text. He pitched his

  907. tent having Bethl on the west and Ai on

  908. the east. And there he builded an altar

  909. under the Lord. He pitched his tent,

  910. that's his dwelling place. And he built

  911. his altar

  912. between the house of God and the heap of

  913. ruins. Now, what does that represent?

  914. That represents the life of you and I.

  915. When we get saved, what happens to us?

  916. We get saved and one becomes two.

  917. >> And you know what? We spend the rest of

  918. our life doing

  919. choosing

  920. between the flesh, that heap of ruin.

  921. You're

  922. >> right.

  923. >> And between the house of God, that

  924. spirit. You see, the Bible tells us that

  925. our body is the temple.

  926. >> Ain't that right?

  927. >> We're the house of God.

  928. >> Abram built his tent between this. And

  929. you know what this does? This sets up

  930. the scope for the rest of Abram's life.

  931. every decision that he makes is going to

  932. go one of two ways.

  933. Why did he do this? Because he needed to

  934. realize where his center point is.

  935. You see, he could have built that tent.

  936. He could have put that tent. He could

  937. have put that that altar anywhere. But

  938. what does this represent to us? Well,

  939. the tent, one writer put it this way. It

  940. represents that we're pilgrims.

  941. We're living between the house of God

  942. and a heap of ruins. This world is not

  943. our home. Abram was what? He was a

  944. pilgrim in Canaan land. Paul said it

  945. this way. He said he looked for a city

  946. that hath foundations whose builder and

  947. maker's God. What was it? That's an

  948. eternal city. That's heaven,

  949. >> right?

  950. >> And he built he put up his tent here.

  951. But you know what he also built? He

  952. built an altar unto the Lord. What is an

  953. altar? It's a place of sacrifice. It's a

  954. place of supplication. And it's

  955. mentioned the last phrase in verse

  956. number eight. Notice the text. And there

  957. he built an altar unto the Lord. What's

  958. your Bible say? and called upon the name

  959. of the Lord. You see, God will give you

  960. instruction.

  961. There going to be some irritations, but

  962. he's going to give you some inspiration

  963. to help you. The spirit of God will

  964. inspire you. The scriptures will

  965. instruct you. But you see, out of that,

  966. you have a responsibility.

  967. You ought to put up some indicators.

  968. You ought to make a place of

  969. identification. You say, "What what is

  970. that, preacher?" Well, this is the

  971. bottom line. this is who I am. You ought

  972. to decide in your heart tonight and

  973. realize, all right, you're not perfect.

  974. When you got saved, God didn't make you

  975. sinless. You're

  976. >> right.

  977. >> And so, what is this place of

  978. identification? It's showing, all right,

  979. I've got to b I've got to battle myself,

  980. >> right?

  981. >> Every day. But then thirdly, not only

  982. this indication and identification, but

  983. there is for sake of alliteration, and I

  984. probably need to stop doing this, but I

  985. I do it because it helps me. So, just

  986. forgive me. There's a place of invoc

  987. invocation in the text. He called upon

  988. the name of the Lord. You see, this is

  989. the fulfillment of who we are as

  990. Christians.

  991. The only desire that God has for his

  992. people is that they would speak to him.

  993. Do you realize that out of talking to

  994. him? You say, "Preacher, but he wants me

  995. to read his word." You understand that?

  996. That all that goes hand in hand,

  997. >> right? Your conversation with God is

  998. prayer and Bible study. That's what it

  999. is. And all he asked of us is that we

1000. speak to him. And Abram decides that

1001. that indicator was the altar, the place

1002. of his sacrifice. The in the

1003. identification showed his dwelling where

1004. he would ultimately live his life

  1005. between these two places.

1006. And his prayer was made on that altar to

1007. his Lord. And you say, "Preacher, but

1008. what if I fall?" Well, you notice in the

1009. text, he falls right after this,

  1010. >> right?

  1011. >> Notice verse N.

1012. And Abram journeyed going on still

1013. toward the south. Now, some writers in

1014. their ignorance have said this. Abram

  1015. was always going forward.

1016. You better be careful with somebody

  1017. that's always going forward.

1018. You say, "Preacher, but some change is

  1019. good

  1020. sometimes."

1021. But notice what's happened. You see, up

1022. to this point, Abra Abram moving has

1023. been good. But you see, his journeying

1024. was not good in verse number nine

  1025. because of his direction.

1026. You ought to be careful to never be

1027. still, but you also ought to be careful

  1028. about where you're going when you're

  1029. moving. You're

  1030. >> right.

1031. >> Say, preacher, well, how do I know what?

  1032. Well,

1033. simply put, David said it this way. Thy

1034. word is a lamp unto my feet and a light

  1035. into my path.

1036. the instruction that you're going to

  1037. find at that tree.

1038. That's the only way you can keep it in

  1039. the bounds. You're

  1040. >> right.

1041. >> And you're going to have to hide it in

1042. your heart. Thy word have I hid in my

1043. heart that I might not sin against thee.

1044. And then and only then will you pray and

1045. then will you find deliverance. You see

1046. these build this building that Abram

1047. does in the text. And I didn't really

1048. get time to emphasize this. There was a

1049. lot more I wanted to say, but I believe

1050. the Lord got across what he wanted to.

1051. Abram could have built a lot of things.

1052. He could have went to one place, you

1053. know, he could have built his house and

1054. put his stakes down and did all of that,

1055. but that wasn't what God wanted him to

1056. do. All throughout this this story of

1057. Abram, you'll find in chapter 13, he

1058. journeys on, leaves that place at

1059. Sheckchham, goes to the plains of Mamry,

1060. and God blesses him there in the plains

1061. of Mamry, and then he journeys all

1062. throughout the rest of his life. Why?

1063. Because he was a stranger.

1064. But you know, Abram was all was fine

1065. traveling as long as he was in the place

1066. where God called him to be. And what was

1067. that? That was Canaan land. Anytime

1068. Abram got out of Canaan land, what

  1069. happened? There was trouble.

1070. You've got a realm of life that you can

1071. live in. And in that realm, there's

  1072. freedom.

1073. But you say, "Preacher, well, that's not

1074. enough freedom for me." What you're

1075. going to find is there's going to be

1076. destruction on the outside of it. You're

  1077. >> right.

1078. >> And you know what sets the bounds?

  1079. Where this thing stops,

  1080. >> right?

1081. Because the land of Canaan is your

  1082. Christian life.

1083. And that victory is only found when you

  1084. live inside the bounds

  1085. of the map.

  1086. You're

  1087. >> right.

  1088. >> I hope you don't miss that. Father,

1089. thank you for the time tonight.

1090. Lord, it's different service tonight. My

1091. flesh don't like it, but God, I pray

1092. somebody's got some help tonight. Lord,

1093. I know there's so much so many things

1094. going on. We all got stuff in our minds,

  1095. thoughts, heaviness, burdens.

1096. But Lord, I pray that each individual

1097. before they leave here tonight would

1098. realize, God, that just because there

1099. wasn't an altar called doesn't mean this

  1100. altar wasn't open.

1101. And Lord, I believe tonight that each

1102. one of us, Lord, ought to put up one of

1103. those indicating marks on this altar

1104. cuz Lord, I've watched you do it in the

1105. last two years. these precious people.

1106. Some have been here 30, 40 years and

1107. they've seen you do it over and over and

1108. over again. And Lord, they've got those

1109. marks up. Maybe it's time for them to

1110. revisit them again. Lord, would you help

1111. us to be obedient to you? God, help us

1112. to identify ourselves, who we really

1113. are, and put ourselves in perspective to

1114. make the right decisions. And Lord, help

1115. us to always be people of prayer. God, I

1116. realize that many of us live busy

1117. schedules and God, we don't have the

1118. time that we want to. But Lord, I pray

1119. that you would help us throughout the

1120. day, Lord, to be in a mental state of

1121. prayer. God, as we go, Lord, you bring

1122. somebody across our mind, Lord. We know

1123. that we can bow our head in just a

1124. moment and pray and lift their name up

1125. to you. Lord, we know if there's a

1126. sinner, Father, that we come in contact

1127. with, God, we know that we may not even

1128. know their name, but you do. and we can

1129. call out to you and pray for them. But

1130. Lord, I pray you would help us all stay

1131. in the place where you put us. And God,

1132. if there's somebody here tonight in a

1133. place where they're not supposed to be,

1134. halfway between where they was lost and

  1135. where they're found, God, I pray you'd

1136. get them to the place where they need to

1137. be tonight. Lord, I love you. Thank you

1138. for loving us. We ask it in Jesus name.

  1139. Amen. I love you.
