  6. with your friends. Now, let's join

  7. Pastor Charlie Branch with a word from

  8. God.

  9. 1st Samuel chapter 30. Not to denote

  10. anything that was said. I'll say this to

  11. you this morning. If a man's got gold,

  12. you know what he has a hard time doing?

  13. Not talking about it.

  14. >> You're right.

  15. >> Amen. If you got something better than

  16. gold, you ought to say something about

  17. it. Amen.

  18. >> Amen. That's exactly right.

  19. >> 1st Samuel chapter 30, let's read the

  20. verse again. All right. And verse number

  21. eight, the Bible said in 1st Samuel 30,

  22. and David inquired at the Lord, saying,

  23. "Shall I pursue after this truth? Shall

  24. I overtake them?" And he answered him,

  25. "Pursue! For thou shalt surely overtake

  26. them, and without fail recover all."

  27. When I think about this text and this

  28. verse this morning, there are several

  29. things that come to mind leading up to

  30. this. But I my mind immediately when I

  31. look at that word, I think about the

  32. many different avenues. I remember when

  33. I was coming up through uh middle

  34. school, I was homeschooled through high

  35. school, but in middle school, I went to

  36. a public school. And I remember we had a

  37. class and and it was called Project Lead

  38. the Way. And I remember that class when

  39. I was coming up in school and and I

  40. remember the woman that taught this

  41. class. It was just a little

  42. extracurricular thing we had there at

  43. the school. and it was encouraging the

  44. entrepreneurial mindset. And I'll say

  45. this, I I'm I'm a working man. I can

  46. give you that this morning. Um if you

  47. want to work a job, amen, you're going

  48. to you'll find an advocate in the

  49. preacher. Amen. I can tell you that

  50. right now. I'll say this. I believe like

  51. the Bible said, if a man don't work, he

  52. don't eat. Amen.

  53. >> But when I think about that class, I'm

  54. reminded of what the teacher illustrated

  55. to us about the pursuits. And it was

  56. always a a a emphasis. It always seemed

  57. to come back to on which avenue you

  58. wanted to take. Now, we know that

  59. there's all kinds of different things a

  60. person can do. There's all kinds of

  61. different pursuits or avenues that your

  62. life can go down. But when I think about

  63. this text, I'm reminded that there are

  64. some pursuits that are superior to

  65. others. And when I I preached a message

  66. here at the church a while back directed

  67. toward the young people about a cult for

  68. Christ. And I made the statement. And I

  69. said, 'Really, the only thing that

  70. matters in your life at this point when

  71. when you're uh, you know, 12, 13, all

  72. the way up, really even up to 15, 16

  73. years old, really, the only thing that

  74. matters in your life is your labor for

  75. the Lord.

  76. >> It's not time for you to necessarily be

  77. working a job. You ought to be keeping

  78. the house. You ought to be helping your

  79. mama. Uh, ladies with the dishes, boys,

  80. too. Amen. And boys, you ought to be

  81. helping your dad outside cleaning up the

  82. yard and working and things like that.

  83. But your primary focus should be the

  84. work of the Lord. And that is an

  85. honorable pursuit. But I'll say this,

  86. even before that, when you get saved, I

  87. got saved at the age of seven years old.

  88. But I'm I'm afraid that at seven, I was

  89. very unaware. I know I was unaware of

  90. this pursuit that I want to reveal to

  91. you in the text this morning. Now, those

  92. of you that was in Sunday school, you

  93. know where I'm headed with this this

  94. morning. And so I want to just put this

  95. out there one more time as a plug for

  96. Sunday school. Amen. If you want to know

  97. what the preacher is talking about when

  98. he says they know from Sunday school

  99. what I'm talking about, come to Sunday

  100. school. Amen. You'll get a blessing. I

  101. promise. All right. It ain't but an hour

  102. earlier. Amen. Set your clock an hour

  103. forward. But enough of that. Okay. What

  104. I want to tell you this morning is this

  105. army in the text. David has met up

  106. against the Amalachites. In the text,

  107. they have taken his wives and their

  108. children according to verse number two.

  109. They burned the city that David is

  110. dwelling in with fire in the text. And

  111. the Bible says that David and all the

  112. men that were with him. Some 600 men

  113. lifted up their voice and wept in verse

  114. number four. And I want to say this to

  115. you this morning. Those Amalachites

  116. represent a type and picture of your

  117. flesh and my flesh. And let me say this.

  118. Anything in your life that is destroyed,

  119. anything that in your life is decaying

  120. is flesh. Amen. The Bible says that all

  121. flesh is grass and the grass witherth,

  122. the flower fadeth, but the word of our

  123. God shall stand forever. And so your

  124. life, you say, "Preacher, well, I'm

  125. getting older and I'm growing." But you

  126. understand that every day that you grow,

  127. amen, you're already dying. Amen. From

  128. the time that a baby is conceived, that

  129. death process is reigning in their

  130. flesh. There are cells that are dying

  131. off and fading away. There's skin cells

  132. and there's all types of different

  133. things. What I'm saying is because of

  134. sin, you are a decaying individual. And

  135. this destruction that has come into

  136. David's life here in the text, amen, has

  137. came to him because he has forgotten

  138. about a battle with his flesh.

  139. >> You're right.

  140. >> Said this to Sunday school this morning.

  141. David neglected his family because he

  142. was too worried about the world. David

  143. in chapter 29 has yolked himself up with

  144. the world. Amen. Y'all loosen up a

  145. little bit. All right, we just if we get

  146. through testifying and the preacher

  147. can't preach, the testimonies wasn't

  148. much good. You're

  149. >> right.

  150. >> All right, y'all help me preach this

  151. morning. All right, I'm saying this text

  152. here reveals to us that David has failed

  153. the Lord. David has walked away from

  154. God. As we preached last week, he's been

  155. on the wrong side of the battle. And out

  156. of that, amen, the Bible tells us here

  157. in the text, the Amalachites come that

  158. type of the flesh while he is too

  159. preoccupied with the world. They come

  160. and take his family away from him. And

  161. we notice out of this all the distress,

  162. all the despair, all the desire that

  163. these men had to stone David in verse

  164. number six. And the Bible said in verse

  165. six that David was greatly distressed.

  166. For the people spake of stoning him

  167. because the soul of all the people was

  168. grieved every man for his sons and for

  169. his daughters. And wouldn't you agree

  170. this morning if it if you had been in

  171. this situation, you was just simply

  172. following David and after this fact, you

  173. come back home and you find that because

  174. of David's decision, your wife is gone

  175. and your children is gone and your house

  176. is burned down. And so they're desiring

  177. here to stand against their leader

  178. because David has failed them. And let

  179. me say this to you this morning. You're

  180. not going to live too long in this world

  181. before you realize that the people you

  182. esteem the highest are going to be the

  183. ones that fail you the greatest. Amen.

  184. David missed the mark in this text. But

  185. I'll say this, David didn't allow that

  186. to stop him. Amen. And I don't know

  187. about you, but aren't you thankful for

  188. some people that even though they missed

  189. the mark, even though they failed, even

  190. though they stumbled, Amen. Number one,

  191. they confessed that they messed up.

  192. Amen. They admitted the fact that they

  193. had failed. But you know what? They

  194. didn't stop. Amen. The Bible says that a

  195. just man fallth seven times, but he

  196. riseth up again. Amen. And the Bible

  197. says in verse number six, that David,

  198. notice this, encouraged himself in the

  199. Lord his God. Now, I want to give you

  200. three things by way of introduction this

  201. morning before we get to the message

  202. concerning this thought of pursuing.

  203. Amen. And I notice in this text there

  204. are three things that proceed here or

  205. there are three things that are entailed

  206. in pursuing against the flesh in your

  207. life. I notice in the text number one I

  208. would say there is a quickening or

  209. there's a quickened power that is

  210. represented in verse number six. David

  211. notice this encouraged himself in the

  212. Lord his God. You say preacher what does

  213. that mean? Well David found some

  214. strength somewhere other than his flesh.

  215. Amen. David found some strength not from

  216. a person, not from a place, not even

  217. from a position, but he found some

  218. strength in the power and the presence

  219. of Almighty God. Hey friend, he had to

  220. get to a solitary place. Sometimes to be

  221. quickened, you're going to have to get

  222. quiet. Amen. I think our problem in this

  223. day and time, maybe we're talking just a

  224. little bit too much. Amen. Maybe we

  225. ought to spend some more time down on

  226. our knees. Maybe we ought to spend some

  227. more time in the solitary place. Amen.

  228. in quietness because friend that's where

  229. you going to get quickened at. Amen.

  230. DAVID FINDS SOME POWER IN THE PRIVATE

  231. PLACE. AMEN. And I notice that out of

  232. that the Bible reveals to us not only

  233. his quickened power I would say in the

  234. text but I it also reveals to us the

  235. questions of his prayer. Notice the

  236. Bible says in verse 7 and David said to

  237. by far the priest a himch son I pray

  238. thee bring me hither the ephod. And by

  239. far brought thither the ephod to David.

  240. Notice verse eight. And David inquired

  241. at the Lord saying, "Shall I pursue over

  242. after this truth, shall I overtake

  243. them?" And so David here in the text is

  244. revealing to us his prayer. And this

  245. prayer reveals to us first of all the

  246. frailty of David.

  247. >> You say, "What do you mean?" Well, David

  248. didn't know whether he was going to win.

  249. >> Let me say this, child of God. Every day

  250. you get up, you don't know if you're

  251. going to make it through the day

  252. >> in victory. You say, "What do you mean?"

  253. Well, I'm saying you might fail before

  254. the day lets out.

  255. >> I'll tell you this. Some of the days

  256. I've had the best beginning.

  257. >> Some of the days I wake up and pray and

  258. read my Bible and I'm ready to charge

  259. hell with a water pistol. Amen. It ain't

  260. even lunchtime before the devil's hit me

  261. blindsided. Amen. Hey, I didn't know

  262. what was coming. And you don't know

  263. what's coming either. But I'll say this,

  264. there's a God that does. Amen. And David

  265. questions. He asked the right question.

  266. He says, "Lord, shall I pursue after

  267. this troop?" And he then he asked not

  268. only about the pursuing in the text, but

  269. he also asked here about the protection.

  270. He says, "Shall I overtake them?

  271. Will there be victory?" Let me ask you

  272. this. You ought to rise up every day and

  273. ask the Lord, "Lord, I need victory

  274. today."

  275. >> Amen.

  276. >> You say, "Preacher, well, David asked if

  277. there would be victory." See, here's the

  278. difference. You already know there'll be

  279. victory,

  280. >> right?

  281. >> Amen. You just got to pray and ask the

  282. Lord to help you claim it,

  283. >> right?

  284. >> That'll help somebody if you let it.

  285. Amen. Like I've said a thousand times,

  286. I'm going to say it a thousand and1.

  287. We're not fighting for victory. We're

  288. fighting what? From victory. Amen. We've

  289. already won this morning. But I'll say

  290. this. We ought to rise up with that

  291. power, but we ought to rise up in prayer

  292. and ask the Lord. And I'll say this, the

  293. next thing I notice is not the

  294. quickening, but the qu in the question,

  295. but I see the quickness of David in

  296. verse number nine. Look what the Bible

  297. says. So David went. If you want a

  298. three-fold recipe for victory, amen, you

  299. take that power and you take that prayer

  300. and you fold that thing over into piety.

  301. Amen. You put your faith in shoe

  302. leather. Amen. And that is a process for

  303. victory. Amen. And I'll give you the

  304. message this morning, David in the text,

  305. the Bible says later on in the chapter

  306. that they recover all. They go and get

  307. his wives. They go and get the children.

  308. And they spoil the Amalachites and

  309. destroy them. And let me say this to you

  310. today, child of God. Your flesh does not

  311. have to destroy you, but you can live

  312. and defeat your flesh. And you will have

  313. to do it if you're going to live the

  314. Christian life.

  315. >> Right?

  316. >> I can tell you this, victory is

  317. possible. Amen.

  318. >> Let me say this. For a child of God, it

  319. ought to be promised. It is promised.

  320. Amen. But it ought to be perpetual.

  321. That's the word I was looking for.

  322. Notice verse eight. You said, "Preacher,

  323. what's the message this morning?" Well,

  324. God gives an answer to David's prayer in

  325. this text. And the first thing he says

  326. in the text, notice that in verse number

  327. eight, he answered him, "Pursue,

  328. pursue, for thou shalt surely overtake

  329. them, and when thou fail, recover all."

  330. When I think about this thought of

  331. pursuing this morning, you see, there's

  332. some requirements that come into play. I

  333. want to say this. If you're going to

  334. have victory in this day and time over

  335. your flesh and over the world, you're

  336. going to have to have an answer from

  337. God.

  338. >> And I think this is where a lot of us

  339. are at, too. We're we're trying to go on

  340. and answers that we've had from the

  341. past. But you understand, you know, the

  342. the the worst prayers are unpaid

  343. prayers.

  344. >> You're right.

  345. >> You realize that

  346. >> God can't answer a prayer you don't

  347. pray.

  348. >> Right. Amen.

  349. >> And so, here's why we're missing it.

  350. We're we're refusing to ask. Amen.

  351. because, well, God answered before, and

  352. I'll just let that continue to be my

  353. answer. Well, you ought to talk to him

  354. every day.

  355. >> You're right.

  356. >> Because his mercies are new every

  357. morning. His compassions fail not. You

  358. need forgiveness today just like you

  359. will tomorrow. And just like you will

  360. the day after that because you've got a

  361. battle today, you'll have a battle

  362. tomorrow. SOMEBODY HELP THE PREACHER

  363. THIS MORNING. You got a battle today,

  364. you'll have a battle tomorrow, and you

  365. have a battle the day after that. And if

  366. you're not asking, here's what's going

  367. to happen to you. YOU GOING TO COME UP

  368. IN DEFEAT, BUT YOU UNDERSTAND you need

  369. to pray. You don't just stop at praying.

  370. DON'T JUST BE SATISFIED WITH THE ACTION,

  371. BUT YOU PRAY UNTIL YOU GET AN ANSWER.

  372. AMEN.

  373. >> Notice the text. David in the text, God

  374. says, "And he answered him." Ain't that

  375. wonderful?

  376. >> Amen.

  377. >> Isn't it wonderful? Hey, I don't want to

  378. miss that. All right. You realize how

  379. big that is? Amen. that the God of

  380. heaven does is anybody in the building

  381. >> that the God of heaven would take time

  382. not just to hear

  383. >> but to help.

  384. >> Amen.

  385. >> Amen. Not just to acknowledge YOUR

  386. PRAYER BUT TO answer it. Amen.

  387. >> God has an answer for him. You say,

  388. "Preacher, what's the answer?" Well, in

  389. the fight for your flesh, I think

  390. there's three things that you need to

  391. understand. And all of these come upon

  392. the promise of God. Now, David has asked

  393. here in the text, he has received power

  394. from the Lord. He has made his prayer

  395. unto the Lord and his piety is mentioned

  396. that he was faithful to go. But I see

  397. this in the text in verse number eight.

  398. You see, it's more than just optional to

  399. David.

  400. >> You're right.

  401. >> Let me say this to you, child of God.

  402. Victory is not optional.

  403. >> You're right.

  404. >> Amen. You've got to have it.

  405. >> Amen.

  406. >> And you say, "Preacher, how is that?"

  407. Well, it's found in that word pursue.

  408. You see, that word pursue implies a

  409. demand.

  410. >> David says in verse number eight, "Shall

  411. I pursue after this truth?" David puts a

  412. question. And he says, "Lord, I don't

  413. know if this is what you want me to do

  414. at this point in time, but when God

  415. answers, you know what God is doing?" He

  416. is saying, "Presently, it is my demand.

  417. It is a command for you to pursue." And

  418. you know what your the command for you

  419. and I is today that we are to pursue.

  420. You say, "Preacher, what am I pursuing?"

  421. Well, you are to be pursuing your flesh.

  422. >> You say, "How is that?" Well, you got to

  423. kill it.

  424. >> That's right. daily.

  425. >> You know what? The first pursuit you

  426. ought to have every day

  427. >> is the flesh.

  428. >> Amen.

  429. >> That's true.

  430. >> You got to take it out.

  431. >> You say, "What do you mean by that?"

  432. Well, this is faith's demand. Notice

  433. that. You say, "Preacher, how do I know

  434. that?" Well, God said it. He answered

  435. him, "Pursue." But you know what? At

  436. that word pursue, David didn't know that

  437. there was victory promised.

  438. >> You're right. David didn't know that,

  439. hey, it was going to turn out all right

  440. on the other side.

  441. >> You're right.

  442. >> All he knowed is that God said, go.

  443. >> You know what? Not every day of our life

  444. are we going to know that there's

  445. victory promised.

  446. >> But when God says go, you better go.

  447. >> Amen.

  448. >> You've heard it said this way. He didn't

  449. say go and see results.

  450. >> He didn't say go and make millions. He

  451. didn't say go and and save the world. He

  452. said go.

  453. >> That's all he said.

  454. >> You go and you teach them. And what they

  455. do is going to be up to them.

  456. >> Amen. And in this text, faith's demand

  457. is that we are to pursue. You think

  458. about this. David did not run

  459. frantically to the battle and

  460. frustration.

  461. >> What would you have done?

  462. >> His wives are gone. You're right.

  463. >> His children are gone.

  464. >> All of his army, all of their wives and

  465. children are gone. They're they're

  466. they're screaming. They're crying.

  467. They're weeping. They're ready to kill

  468. David. And instead of David saying, "All

  469. right, boys. Let's go." You know what he

  470. does? He withdraws.

  471. What does he do? He encourages himself

  472. in the Lord. That's right.

  473. >> He finds some power. You're

  474. >> right.

  475. >> Let me say this. You need power from God

  476. before you need to make your request to

  477. him. You're

  478. >> right.

  479. >> This is what we do a lot of times. We

  480. come to God. God, you got to fix this.

  481. God, you got to fix this. God, I can't

  482. handle this. You're going to have to

  483. take care of it. You know what David did

  484. before he did that? He went to the Lord

  485. and said, "Lord, I just need you."

  486. >> Right?

  487. >> Amen.

  488. >> What does the Bible say? He encouraged

  489. himself. That's personal.

  490. >> But it's also private in the Lord.

  491. >> That's a transaction between two people.

  492. >> Right?

  493. >> David encouraged himself in the Lord his

  494. God. And then he makes a request.

  495. >> You know the reason why we don't have

  496. answers a whole lot of times? Because we

  497. don't have power. You're

  498. >> right.

  499. >> You say, "What is that, preacher?" Well,

  500. the Bible tells us according to Romans

    Romans 8 chapter mention

  501. chapter 8 that it's the spirit that

  502. maketh intercession for us with

  503. groanings which cannot be uttered. You

  504. understand your prayer is not going to

  505. even get out of your mouth as far as

  506. getting to heaven goes if you don't have

  507. the power of the Holy Ghost in your

  508. prayer. Jude talks about praying in the

  509. Holy Ghost. He is the medium through

  510. which your prayer gets to Jesus. AND IF

  511. YOU DON'T HAVE POWER, YOU WILL NOT YOUR

  512. PRAYER WILL NOT REACH GOD. That's right.

  513. >> It's faith's demand

  514. >> pursue. Let me say this. He didn't

  515. frantically run to battle and

  516. frustration, but he waited in patient

  517. submission to God. You say, "Preacher,

  518. why did he do that?" Because he realized

  519. that if he run to Amalecch in his flesh,

  520. you know what he would be doing? He

  521. would be fighting them the same way they

  522. were going to fight him.

  523. >> Y

  524. >> Let me say this. You can't defeat your

  525. flesh the way it defeats you.

  526. >> You're right.

  527. It's going to hang over your head. And

  528. you know what? You're going to fall to

  529. it every time.

  530. >> Right.

  531. >> You got to go to something that's bigger

  532. than it is.

  533. >> Amen.

  534. >> You got to go to something that has more

  535. authority than it does.

  536. >> When it has a word for you, you've got

  537. to have a word for it.

  538. >> Amen. What was that word? God said,

  539. "David, pursue."

  540. >> You've got to have a word from God

  541. because it's not a carnal battle.

  542. >> Put this verse in your margin. I know

  543. you Sunday school people, you've already

  544. heard it, but you need to hear it again.

  545. Listen to what he says. 2 Corinthians

    2 Corinthians 10 chapter mention

  546. chapter 10.

  547. I want you to turn there with me. 2

  548. Corinthians 10. Listen to what Paul says

  549. to the Corinthian church.

  550. He says 2 Corinthians 10 and verse

  551. number three.

  552. 2 Corinthians 10:3. For though we walk

    2 Corinthians 10:3

  553. in the flesh, we do not war after the

  554. flesh. For the weapons of our warfare

  555. are not carnal, that's fleshly, but

  556. mighty through God to the pulling down

  557. of strongholds, casting down

  558. imaginations, and every high thing that

  559. exaltth itself against the knowledge of

  560. God, and bringing into captivity every

  561. thought to the obedience of Christ.

  562. Verse three again, for though we walk in

  563. the flesh, we do not war after the

  564. flesh. Right?

  565. >> The Bible tells in the book of Romans

  566. says, "For they that live after the

  567. flesh shall die."

  568. >> If you walk in the flesh, Paul told the

  569. Galatian church, he said, "They that sow

  570. to the flesh shall of the flesh reap

  571. corruption." That's death.

  572. >> And when you follow the flesh, you say,

  573. "Preacher, well, I'm fighting against

  574. the flesh." Well, it does not matter the

  575. amount of discipline. It does not matter

  576. the amount of desire that you have. You

  577. will fall every single time because the

  578. flesh cannot be coraled. It cannot be

  579. curved and it cannot be corrected. The

  580. flesh must be utterly consumed. You're

  581. >> right.

  582. >> Destroyed.

  583. Dead.

  584. The Bible says in Romans 6, he tells us

  585. there in Romans 6, how shall we that are

  586. dead to sin live any longer therein? You

  587. see that old man, you are dead to sin.

  588. But you got to put the OLD MAN TO DEATH

  589. WITH THAT DEATH THAT YOU'RE ALREADY DEAD

  590. IN. YOU SAY, "PREACHER, I don't

  591. understand that." Well, you've got to

  592. realize this morning, you cannot fight

  593. your flesh by the flesh.

  594. >> If a man has problem with fornication,

  595. there's no fleshly program that he can

  596. do to get over that.

  597. >> If a man has problem with alcohol,

  598. there's not a mount of 12step program

  599. that's going to get that taste out of

  600. his mouth. That if a man has problem

  601. with lying, there is no amount OF

  602. REFORMATION CARNALLY THAT THAT MAN can

  603. do to quit lying. YOU HEAR ME, CHURCH?

  604. HE NEEDS A CHANGE ON THE INSIDE BECAUSE

  605. IT'S WHAT'S ON THE INSIDE THAT COUNTS

  606. AND YOU CAN REFORM THE OUTSIDE. YOU CAN

  607. PICTURE UP THE OUTSIDE AND MAKE IT

  608. PURITY. YOU CAN DO ALL KINDS OF THINGS

  609. ON THE OUTSIDE, BUT IF GOD NEVER DOES A

  610. WORK ON THE INSIDE, YOU WILL NEVER KNOW

  611. WHAT REAL CHANGE IS. AMEN.

  612. >> PURSUE.

  613. >> PURSUE. There's people that turn over a

  614. new leaf all the time.

  615. >> There's people that make professions,

  616. but they have no presence.

  617. >> They'll they'll come to the altar and

  618. they'll pray, but there is no presence

  619. of God that comes into their life. I'm

  620. saying, friend, the mark for me is

  621. knowing whether or not the presence of

  622. God bears witness with me. Amen. Hey,

  623. friend, if a man's preaching or a lady's

  624. speaking or testifying, there's

  625. something on the inside. If they got God

  626. in them, the God in me says, "Hey,

  627. friend, that's real." Amen. HEY FRIEND,

  628. THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT THAT THAT'S MORE

  629. THAN JUST CARNAL. YOU CAN TELL THE

  630. DIFFERENCE BECAUSE THE SPIRIT OF GOD,

  631. IT'S THE POWER, THE PRESENCE OF GOD THAT

  632. makes it different. And you say,

  633. "Preacher, what's the mark of them that

  634. aren't saved?" Well, they're pursuing.

  635. They're constantly WANTING TO DIE TO

  636. THEMSELVES.

  637. >> People that can't put it down. People

  638. that can't get over it. People that

  639. can't get victory no matter how hard

  640. they try. You see, their problem is

  641. they're still pursuing in the flesh.

  642. You're

  643. >> right.

  644. >> You got to have the power of almighty

  645. God. You see, I see not only the faith's

  646. demand here. You say, "How is that faith

  647. demand?" Well, he was just going to have

  648. to believe the word of God.

  649. >> You're right.

  650. >> You know what, child of God? The only

  651. way you're going to have victories if

  652. you just believe that book. You're

  653. >> right.

  654. >> You can have victory this morning.

  655. >> I see faith demand. I also see the

  656. flesh's defeat in verse number eight.

  657. And he answered him, "Pursue." Notice

  658. this, "For thou shalt surely overtake

  659. them." You say, "What does that entail,

  660. preacher?" Well, it reveals to us this,

  661. that when David needed an answer, God

  662. had it for him.

  663. >> You're right.

  664. >> But it was stringent upon his obedience.

  665. But after he knew that David was going

  666. to obey. This is what I love about God.

  667. All right? God knew that David was going

  668. to listen to him. And so, he tells

  669. David, says, "All right, you're going to

  670. overtake them."

  671. >> Why is that? Because David had asked,

  672. >> right? You have not because you look

  673. what he says in the text. For thou shalt

  674. surely overtake them. And that means

  675. complete dismissal. That means complete

  676. destruction. You see, there is no marker

  677. in that verse that says, "Well, you're

  678. going to almost get it."

  679. You know what? There is no room for

  680. almost in the work of God. Right?

  681. >> Judas. If there's anybody that ever had

  682. the almost, it was Judas.

  683. He lived. He He worked for God. He

  684. seemingly loved Jesus. Maybe at one time

  685. he even kissed him. But you know what?

  686. That didn't get him anywhere, did it?

  687. >> Right?

  688. >> There's a lot of people that'll live and

  689. die with an almost.

  690. >> The gripper told Paul, "What did he tell

  691. him?" He said, "Almost. Thou persuadest

  692. me

  693. >> to be a Christian." But you know what?

  694. Almost is altogether lost.

  695. >> But I'll say this for our life. The

  696. Bible tells us in the text, he says,

  697. "Thou shalt surely overtake them." Does

  698. anybody need victory?

  699. >> Amen.

  700. >> There's so much more I want to say, but

  701. God ain't going to let me say it.

  702. >> That's right.

  703. >> Do you need victory this morning?

  704. >> Amen.

  705. >> Victory is promised. That's

  706. >> right.

  707. >> Amen.

  708. >> Why are we defeated?

  709. >> Why?

  710. >> It's promised.

  711. >> Come on.

  712. >> He said, "Pursue, for thou shalt surely

  713. overtake them." Notice this. And I'm

  714. done. Lord ain't going to let me preach

  715. it. There's a command. There's a

  716. confirmation.

  717. David, you need to pursue. That's his

  718. command. For thou shalt surely overtake

  719. them. That's the confirmation. If you

  720. go, it'll be taken care of. But then

  721. notice this. And without fail, recover

  722. all.

  723. You see, David didn't even ask about

  724. that.

  725. >> Verse eight, he said, "Shall I pursue

  726. after this troop? Shall I overtake

  727. them?" Well, God said, "Yeah, you'll

  728. overtake them." But his answer didn't

  729. stop there.

  730. >> You're right.

  731. >> God ever give you more of an answer than

  732. you wanted?

  733. >> Amen.

  734. >> Amen. Look what he says. And without

  735. fail recover all you see what David

  736. didn't know was, and don't miss this,

  737. church.

  738. >> David didn't know if his wives were

  739. alive.

  740. >> You're right.

  741. >> David didn't know if them children were

  742. alive.

  743. >> You're right.

  744. >> David didn't know that any of them was

  745. even still around.

  746. >> He didn't know where they are. He didn't

  747. know what shape they were in. You're

  748. right.

  749. >> He didn't know what had happened to them

  750. because he'd missed his post, didn't he?

  751. He failed because he was too loyal to

  752. the world when he was wor he was more

  753. worried about the world than he was his

  754. family. But isn't it good that God just

  755. gives him a little insight?

  756. >> Amen.

  757. >> You going to recover all David says,

  758. "Well, I didn't know if they would even

  759. be okay."

  760. >> Maybe I wonder what you don't know

  761. about.

  762. >> Amen.

  763. >> You say, "Preacher, what do you mean?"

  764. I'm saying, "Well, the difference

  765. between you knowing and not knowing

  766. might be a prayer."

  767. >> Amen.

  768. You say, "Preacher, but I didn't get the

  769. answer today." Well, that shouldn't stop

  770. you from praying tomorrow

  771. >> because the answer comes on his time,

  772. >> not ours. Amen. Notice what the Bible

  773. says. And without fail recover all and

  774. so there's the command to pursue.

  775. There's the confirmation, for thou shalt

  776. surely overtake them. But think of the

  777. consolation that David received when God

  778. said, "David, you're going to recover it

  779. all."

  780. >> That's not just his wives. That's not

  781. just his children, but that's every

  782. man's wife AND EVERY MAN'S CHILDREN.

  783. THAT'S ALL. That's all. YOU SAY,

  784. "PREACHER, WHAT DOES ALL MEAN?" IT MEANS

  785. ALL. AMEN. He didn't lose none. Amen.

  786. And aren't you thankful, man? I feel a

  787. glory bubble IN MY SOUL. AMEN. JESUS

  788. SAID THEM THAT THE FATHER'S GIVEN TO ME,

  789. of them I've lost NONE. AMEN. HE KEPT

  790. THEM ALL. He preserved THEM ALL. AND LET

  791. ME SAY THIS TO YOU AND I. EVERY ONE OF

  792. THOSE ANIMALS THAT GOT ON NOAH'S HEART,

  793. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM MADE IT ACROSS

  794. THE FLOOD. AND YOU SAY, "PREACHER, WHAT

  795. DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH THIS TEXT?" IT

  796. TELLS ME THAT YOU CAN HAVE VICTORY AND I

  797. CAN HAVE VICTORY IN JESUS CHRIST. WE CAN

  798. DEFEAT THE FLESH. YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE A

  799. CHAIN TO ADDICTION. YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE

  800. A CHAIN TO SIN. YOU CAN have victory and

  801. you can recover all. Amen.

  802. >> Amen.

  803. >> You say, "Preacher, what if I don't?

  804. What if I don't?" What's God say?

  805. >> Say, "Preacher, I don't know." Well,

  806. maybe it's time you ask him.

  807. >> Amen.

  808. >> Every head bowed and every eye closed

  809. this morning.

  810. You see, there is a war this morning.

  811. There's a war that's very evident in our

  812. lives. The flesh and the spirit.

  813. And you say, "Preacher,

  814. what about my family?" It's not about

  815. your family. You say, "Preacher, you

  816. said I could recover all."

  817. You see, the application is different.

  818. This is what you need to realize.

  819. The only place you can recover all in

  820. life is personally.

  821. All the joy you lose, you can have it

  822. back.

  823. All the peace you lost, you can have it

  824. back.

  825. Everything you lose personally, you can

  826. have back. You can't make decisions for

  827. others,

  828. but you can recover all for yourself.

  829. You say, "Preacher, how is that?" Well,

  830. David was fighting the flesh, the

  831. Amalocites.

  832. And when he recovered all,

  833. it was an representation to us, not

  834. literally that everybody that's astray

  835. in our life's going to come home. Not

  836. literally that every prodal is going to

  837. get right. Not literally that every

  838. family member is going to get saved, but

  839. it's an illustration to us that in your

  840. fight against the flesh. You can recover

  841. everything that you have lost

  842. from your flesh. You say, "Preacher,

  843. what do I need to do?"

  844. Well, let me ask you, as God said,

  845. pursue.

  846. Paul said this. He said, "I die daily."

  847. It's your choice,

  848. child of God. Did you die this morning?

  849. Say, preacher, what do you mean? I'm

  850. saying, are you pursuing the flesh? It's

  851. more than just one time a day. You see,

  852. this morning, this pull pit, I've had to

  853. die to my flesh two or three different

  854. times, probably more than that. You know

  855. why? Because it rears its ugly head.

  856. It's real good at coming back to life

  857. again.

  858. But you know what? I refuse to let the

  859. flesh take any more ground from me.

  860. I refuse to let this world influence my

  861. flesh to destroy me.

  862. Let me say this to you this morning. You

  863. say, "Preacher, I I really don't

  864. understand what you're talking about."

  865. Let me say this. Bible says that the

  866. carnal man, that's the natural man,

  867. receiveth not the things of God because

  868. they're spiritually discerned. And maybe

  869. the reason why you have no victory.

  870. There may be the reason why when you lay

  871. your head on your pillow at night and

  872. you have no peace about where you're

  873. going to spend eternity. Maybe the

  874. reason why you can't beat that

  875. addiction. And though you in your heart,

  876. you say, "Preacher, I don't want to be

  877. this way." You know what God's telling

  878. you right now? He loves you and he'll

  879. save you and he can change all that.

  880. That cursor can get saved. Them lips

  881. that loved alcohol can get saved. I

  882. talked to a man just last week and he

  883. told me this. He said, "Preacher, when I

  884. got right with God," he said, "God, he

  885. took all my desire away for that stuff."

  886. You know what? He can do that for you

  887. today. Hey, that stuff on the internet,

  888. you know you're not supposed to be

  889. looking at. Hey, God can take that from

  890. you. You say, "Preacher, what do I need

  891. to do?" He said, "Pursue."

  892. Say, "Preacher,

  893. I don't know how to." Well, you come to

  894. the one that'll give you deliverance.

  895. He'll save you today. You say,

  896. "Preacher, well then will it be okay?"

  897. Every day you're going to have to fight.

  898. Every day you're going to have to stand

  899. against him. But I'll tell you this,

  900. it'll be far better. Cuz you know what?

  901. If you continue on the road you're on,

  902. you're going to end up in hell. You'll

  903. end up lost forever and eternity without

  904. God. You said, "Preacher, I don't know.

  905. I'm saved." Would you pray for me? Slip

  906. your hand up. I'll pray for you this

  907. morning. Preacher, I don't know if I

  908. died right now that I'd be saved. That

  909. I'm saved. Preacher, would you pray for

  910. me? Let me ask you this. You say,

  911. "Preacher, I'm saved,

  912. but I'm losing.

  913. I'm losing the battle with my flesh."

  914. Preacher,

  915. how many of you be honest today? You

  916. say, "Preacher, I I'm not winning."

  917. You just slip your hand up. We'll pray

  918. for you. Preacher, I'm not winning. God

  919. sees that.

  920. God sees that. Any others? Be honest.

  921. Nobody looking around but me.

  922. Let me say this. You can have victory

  923. today.

  924. You can have victory.

  925. And it'll all come when you're obedient

  926. to the command that he gives you.

  927. Father, thank you for this day. Thank

  928. you for this time, for the opportunity

  929. to preach your word. Lord, I know we're

  930. nothing without you. God, I ask humbly

  931. that you would help us this morning.

  932. God, for every heart that's here, I pray

  933. they'd receive help. But Lord, for

  934. those, God, that we're honest this

  935. morning. I pray this morning that they

  936. would receive help. Lord, as God,

  937. they've been honest with you.

  938. Lord, if I've been honest, God, there's

  939. many days that I stumble,

  940. that I fail to pursue the flesh the way

  941. I should, to put it to death,

  942. Lord, to chase it down and take its life

  943. because, Lord, I let it get ahead of me

  944. many times, speak for me, say things

  945. that I shouldn't say, Lord, act in a way

  946. that I shouldn't act. Because Lord, most

  947. of us, Father, I hope most of us, Lord,

  948. don't struggle with fornication or

  949. alcohol or

  950. habitual lying.

  951. God, most of us just struggle with being

  952. obedient to you,

  953. just doing what we're supposed to do

  954. every day. Lord, would you help us,

  955. Father, to put the flesh to death,

  956. Lord? Thank you for loving us. Thank you

  957. for dying for us. Thank you for life,

  958. for liberty, for freedom, to serve you

  959. and worship you. And God, we give you

  960. praise for what you've done, for all

  961. that you're going to do, cuz we ask it

  962. in Jesus name. Amen.
