  1. But awesome. Well, this morning I am

  2. excited as always because I love to

  3. bring the word. I love to just see what

  4. the word of God would speak to us. And

  5. this morning as I have been praying and

  6. believing even this morning altar of

  7. revival just felt God wanted to do

  8. something really really special. That's

  9. why we're going to come and just give

  10. him some extra time. But have you ever

  11. been in one of those moments where

  12. you're like Lord now what do I do? So as

  13. a pastor if you didn't know sometimes

  14. you're like Lord what do I preach on?

  15. I'm sure Pastor Dave never had that

  16. problem in his 40 years, but of lead

  17. like every week or maybe sometimes,

  18. right? But it's like, Lord, WHAT DO YOU

  19. PREACH? What's this look like? And I

  20. think the Lord has given me a message, a

  21. word for us today. And in some ways,

  22. actually, that that word, Susan, on fear

  23. fits in so well. And so, thank you for

  24. being open to what the Lord would speak

  25. through you. Now, before we get to the

  26. word, uh this week, I'm not sure what

  27. happened, but uh we, my wife and I, we

  28. have people over to our house all the

  29. time. We love it. Uh this week, by the

  30. way, my brother and his family, David,

  31. Andrea, and family are here, and so

  32. thank you for uh being with us. But we

  33. had people in our home, and it was

  34. Wednesday night. They had been over for

  35. the day and about 7 o'clock we decided

  36. because it seemed like the right moment.

  37. Wednesday night, 7 o'clock, right before

  38. Thanksgiving, we should go to Lowe's and

  39. we should buy paint and we should buy

  40. boards to make like a I don't even know

  41. what the wall's called, but it's got

  42. wood on it now. It looks really neat.

  43. It's It's black instead of gray. It

  44. looks super cool. And we thought we

  45. should do that from Wednesday night at 7

  46. till Thursday at noon Thanksgiving when

  47. they came back over. So, we wanted to be

  48. done. So, just a little project. And so

  49. bought 12 boards and bought all this

  50. stuff and all the paint and we're like,

  51. "Lord, I don't know what I'm doing, but

  52. we're just going to hope it's going to

  53. go on the wall and then it's going to

  54. stay." So it did. And when they came

  55. back, IT WAS LIKE, "WHAT? YOU DID THAT

  56. LAST NIGHT?" LIKE, "That's pretty cool."

  57. And sleep was low, but it was awesome.

  58. So it was worth it. And so then we

  59. decided, not Thursday, cuz the stores

  60. are closed thankfully, but Friday,

  61. we have this ceiling. Maybe some of you

  62. have been to our house. We remodeled our

  63. house about four years ago and our

  64. kitchen, we took a wall out and moved

  65. some stuff. So, we didn't have the

  66. thought and the money at the time that

  67. we were going to refinish the ceiling.

  68. So, we just kind of put some new stuff

  69. on the ceiling and it looked horrible. I

  70. don't even know how to say, but it

  71. looked really, really bad. But, I just

  72. kept my head down when I walked through

  73. there every time and it was fine. Just,

  74. you know, is he sclling? No. Just

  75. doesn't want to look at the ceiling sort

  76. of a situation. And so, I'm like, "Hey,

  77. this is the moment. So, we're going to

  78. do something. What are we going to do?

  79. So, what would be the easiest thing to

  80. fix this ceiling? Probably not scrape it

  81. off and try to refinish it because if

  82. you ever want to see bad drywall ceiling

  83. finishing, go to my basement and look at

  84. any mine. Not where dad did it. It

  85. looked good if dad did it cuz I bought

  86. the house from him 20 years ago. But

  87. anywhere that it's horrible, I did it.

  88. I'm like, I can't do that ceiling. So, I

  89. think we're just going to put tongue and

  90. groove wood, basically flooring except

  91. you know that goes on your roof on the

  92. roof, which seemed like a great idea. It

  93. was awesome. In fact, Avery, she's

  94. sitting right here. She's like, "I think

  95. we can do it today." I'm like, "I think

  96. it will take at least 24 hours of work."

  97. Like, not Yeah. Like, not I said three

  98. days of work, like eight hour days.

  99. That's what I think it'll take. She Oh,

  100. I think we can do it today. I'm like, I

  101. hope you're right, but I do not believe

  102. you are. In fact, I know you're not. But

  103. so we started putting this these boards

  104. on the ceiling and I thought of course

  105. it makes more sense, more coverage.

  106. Let's get the 12ft long boards so we can

  107. use less of them, less seams and it's

  108. going to be easy. We're just going to

  109. haul them up there and then we're just

  110. going to hit them in and they're going

  111. to be tight and it's going to look good

  112. and it's going to be wonderful.

  113. That's not how exactly it went. Uh,

  114. number one, if you ever try to put 400

  115. or so square feet, 450 square feet of

  116. wood on your ceiling, that is a lot of

  117. wood. You've got a pile. And when I got

  118. it inside my house, I'm like, I think

  119. I've made a mistake. This is not This is

  120. not good in any way, shape, or form.

  121. But, so I I got it there. We started.

  122. The first row was easy. Second row was

  123. easy. And about the third row, I don't

  124. cry. And I didn't cry. But if I was

  125. crying, like if I was a crier, I would

  126. have been crying. I was like making loud

  127. sigh and my wife was like, "Are you

  128. okay?" I think she thought I was having

  129. a heart attack. I was breathing heavy.

  130. I'm like, "We have not even really

  131. started this project and this is

  132. horrible. I don't know any other way." I

  133. mean, trying to get a 12-oot board on

  134. the ceiling tight.

  135. It is hard. Like really, really, really

  136. hard.

  137. So, I decided, you know what I'm going

  138. to do? It makes all the sense. I'm going

  139. to cut all the 12oot boards in half.

  140. Make them sixoot boards. So, I had some

  141. eight-footers and some six-footers. It

  142. got a little bit easier. But let me tell

  143. you, the project was difficult. In fact,

  144. it's not over yet. I'm about a third of

  145. the way through. I still regret my life

  146. choices. But now, it's possible. I think

  147. we can make it. I think we can get

  148. there. And in fact, if I look at the

  149. stand at the right place, my fireplace

  150. is in the corner. I can stand close

  151. enough that all I see is done ceiling.

  152. And it looks so wonderful. I can't wait

  153. to paint it. It's going to be amazing.

  154. But that one night, Friday evening, I

  155. literally went to bed and Rachel was

  156. concerned like, is he gonna survive?

  157. Like, I don't know. And I I'm not

  158. normally like that, but I realized this

  159. was a project,

  160. not like the one that I did on Wednesday

  161. night. This was going to be a deal. And

  162. I don't know about anybody else in the

  163. room, but I'm assuming you're like me

  164. and you've been at places in your life

  165. where things were simply difficult. And

  166. maybe a project on your house, but maybe

  167. more important like a life event, a you

  168. personal physical event or a family

  169. member or a situation or a job or what

  170. you thought was going to go one way all

  171. of a sudden went exactly the opposite

  172. and not in a good way and life just

  173. seemed rough and all of a sudden you're

  174. standing there and maybe you are a crier

  175. so you were just crying or maybe you're

  176. like me and you were just breathing

  177. heavy and your your wife thought you

  178. were having a heart attack because like

  179. what is wrong with you? Like we've been

  180. in those sorts of environments and sorts

  181. of places. And today in the word, we're

  182. going to look at a few different

  183. situations of people that it started out

  184. rough, but it ended great. And if it's

  185. all right, today we're actually going to

  186. go in reverse and we're going to look at

  187. the ends of some of the stories and then

  188. we're going to get to the beginning. And

  189. the ends are maybe exciting. I feel

  190. closer to the end than I did on Friday

  191. night to my ceiling debacle. That's

  192. going to end up great, I think. Real

  193. fast. I just have to say um that Matt

  194. Hanikford, he was over and he was like,

  195. "Well, to fill the holes, why don't you

  196. just every row just put a little uh

  197. drywall compound in each little hole

  198. while they're not smashed together and

  199. you can't get in there, it'll be easy."

  200. I'm like, "That is a great idea." So,

  201. thank you, pastor. Not pastor, maybe.

  202. Maybe future. Who knows? Melissa, she's

  203. like, "I don't know." But thank you,

  204. Matt. Um just amazing all of the things

  205. of life. But we're going to look today

  206. at the stories and see what we might be

  207. able to learn. In fact, maybe we could

  208. think of the first part of this as a

  209. call to step into victory. Now, what are

  210. the stories we're talking about? Acts

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  211. chapter 2. Maybe you have heard of this

  212. amazing story. The Holy Spirit falls,

  213. descends, amazing thing happened. But

  214. we're going to jump to later in Acts

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  215. chapter 2 to Peter and he has gotten up

  216. and he has began to preach the gospel.

  217. He shared the good news of God. God. And

  218. in verse 37, uh it says, "And now when

  219. they heard this, they were cut to the

  220. heart and said to Peter and the rest of

  221. the apostles, brothers, what shall we

  222. do?" And Peter said to them, "Repent and

  223. be baptized, every one of you, in the

  224. name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness

  225. of your sins, and you will receive the

  226. gift of the Holy Spirit for the promises

  227. for you and for your children and for

  228. all who are far off. Everyone whom the

  229. Lord our God calls to himself." Now, I

  230. just want to hear this is pretty

  231. victorious. So those who received his

  232. word were baptized. And there were added

  233. that day about 3,000

  234. souls. Peter, the great man of faith and

  235. power, gets up and preaches the gospel.

  236. He steps into victory and 3,000 people

  237. come to give their lives to Jesus.

  238. Anybody else? Does that sound like a

  239. good day? That sounds like a pretty

  240. great day. 3,000 people. Well, let's

  241. jump to the next one in Acts chapter 10.

    Acts 10 chapter mention

  242. We see a story of Cornelius's household

  243. and the the gospel has been brought here

  244. and all of a sudden in verse 47 and 48

  245. of Acts 10 it says can anyone withhold

  246. water for baptizing these people who

  247. have received the Holy Spirit just as we

  248. have and he commanded them to be

  249. baptized in the name of Jesus Christ.

  250. Then they asked him to remain for some

  251. days. These people were uh were not

  252. where they were with God. They didn't

  253. understand. And all of a sudden, the

  254. gospel was brought and Cornelius and his

  255. household received the goodness of God,

  256. received the the spirit in their life.

  257. Something amazing, something powerful

  258. happened in this story in Acts chapter

    Acts 10 chapter mention

  259. 10. Well, let's continue our last one

  260. today. In Acts chapter 19 as the gospel

    Acts 19 chapter mention

  261. is being brought to Ephesus and in Acts

    Acts 19:18–20

  262. 19:18-20

  263. it says also many of those who were now

  264. believers came confessing and divulging

  265. their practices and a number of those

  266. who had practiced magic art brought

  267. their books together and burned them in

  268. the sight of all and they counted the

  269. value of them and found it came to

  270. 50,000 pieces of silver.

  271. Come on. So, the word of the Lord

  272. continued to increase and prevail

  273. mightily.

  274. Now, you see, each one of these stories

  275. is amazing. 3,000 people came to know

  276. the Lord. This household that just

  277. needed and didn't understand but wanted

  278. to know more about God came to know God.

  279. The people of Ephesus where 50,000

  280. people, pieces of silver worth of magic

  281. books and of of demonic things were

  282. brought. And can you just imagine real

  283. fast the image of that bonfire what it

  284. must have been like as my family we were

  285. talking we used to do bonfires that were

  286. let's say pretty large and we would have

  287. I'm I don't know if sure if I should say

  288. this but we'd burn couches couches burnt

  289. really great like really really great

  290. they would burn 40 50 feet maybe not

  291. quite as tall as this ceiling but they

  292. would get high they would get high so 30

  293. 25 ft of flame just flying into the air

  294. can you imagine that but of evil demonic

  295. books that the people brought and said,

  296. "No, I don't need this anymore." The

  297. power of God, there's victory in the

  298. power of God. There's victory when he

  299. shows up. There's victory when we say,

  300. "I don't care what I thought or what my

  301. fear or what my anxieties or my worries

  302. are, but I'm going to step into the

  303. fullness of God."

  304. I think about that roof that I'm to I'm

  305. working on right now here in hopefully

  306. by the end of this week. By the end of

  307. this week, it's going to be done. It's

  308. going to be amazing. And I'm going to

  309. look back and feel like this. I have

  310. done it. I've I've done it. I bought it.

  311. I conquered. I installed it all. They're

  312. straight so far through about seven

  313. rows. That's pretty exciting. They're

  314. going to look good. But you know what?

  315. In the process, it might not always feel

  316. exactly the same. But when we get to the

  317. end here, the end of the story is

  318. exciting. It's revolutionary. It's

  319. life-changing for a family. It's

  320. life-changing for a people, for God's

  321. people. and the spirit of God being

  322. poured out. It's exciting in Ephesus as

  323. they turned and gave their lives to the

  324. Lord in a greater way. The power of God,

  325. the power of God, we you can step into

  326. victory. You can experience him. You can

  327. have fear and worry and anxiety and all

  328. that stuff gone. You can see his power

  329. move in your life. No matter where you

  330. feel you have come from, no matter what

  331. you think today is or what you think

  332. you've messed up on or what you think

  333. someone has done to you that has put you

  334. back, no, God, he can bring victory to

  335. your life. No matter what it is and

  336. where you feel you are, he can bring

  337. victory. But you know what? Each one of

  338. these stories that I just read didn't

  339. start with the victory. They started a

  340. little bit before, and we're going to

  341. rewind just a tad. And each one of these

  342. groups of people stepped into power

  343. before they stepped into victory. They

  344. needed something different in their life

  345. before they could experience the

  346. fullness of what God had for them. As we

  347. just rewind just a little bit in each

  348. one and it here is thinking of stepping

  349. into power in Acts chapter 2:es 1-4. It

  350. says, "When the day of Pentecost

  351. arrived, they were all together in one

  352. place, and suddenly there came from

  353. heaven a sound like a mighty rushing

  354. wind, and it filled the entire house

  355. where they were sitting. And divided

  356. tongues as of fire appeared to them and

  357. rested on each one of them. And they

  358. were all filled with the Holy Spirit and

  359. began to speak in other tongues as the

  360. Spirit gave them utterance." This church

  361. was a big moment of power where they had

  362. been called to go. They'd been called to

  363. wait and they did and they waited. And

  364. on the 10th day, the spirit of God was

  365. poured out on the 120 people who were

  366. there in the upper room who were filled

  367. that it poured out into the streets. And

  368. as it poured out into the streets, it

  369. poured out into the victory of getting

  370. up in front of thousands of people where

  371. 3,000 could come to know the Lord, where

  372. they could repent and be baptized.

  373. Few years ago, Rachel and I got to go to

  374. Israel and we're there and outside the

  375. south steps of the Temple Mount where

  376. most uh historians and theologians would

  377. think this took place. There were

  378. somewhere between 30 and 50 uh places

  379. where people could be baptized that were

  380. set up because you couldn't go into the

  381. Temple Mount area without being washed

  382. clean. And it was possible that right

  383. there in the middle in the heart of the

  384. city, right outside of the temple, was

  385. where 3,000 people said, "I need this

  386. Jesus. I want to give my life to this

  387. Jesus."

  388. What a moment when wind and when tongues

  389. as of fire descended and fell upon their

  390. heads and all of a sudden power and

  391. boldness came in a way that they had

  392. never experienced.

  393. church. There's something about the

  394. power that leads to the victory. There's

  395. something about the the knowledge, the

  396. understanding, not only knowing but then

  397. experiencing God. And here the spirit is

  398. poured out. When we jump forward to Acts

  399. chap 10 and we think of Cornelius's

  400. house once again, a similar story comes

  401. this time. That same Peter, it says

  402. while Peter was still saying these

  403. things. Now, real fast. I think this

  404. would be uh important. This is like

  405. right in the middle of the sermon. He's

  406. preaching it. He's given the word and

  407. something crazy happens. And the God

  408. shows up, right? Because it says while

  409. Peter was still saying these things, the

  410. Holy Spirit fell on all who heard the

  411. word. And the believers from among the

  412. circumcised who had come with Peter were

  413. amazed because the gift of the Holy

  414. Spirit was poured out even on the

  415. Gentiles.

  416. for they were hearing them speaking in

  417. tongues and extolling God. I don't know

  418. anybody else in the room and we're going

  419. to get even more into why that matters

  420. so much, but this was an amazing moment

  421. where the gentile believers all of a

  422. sudden were filled with the power of the

  423. Holy Spirit. The power of the Holy

  424. Spirit came. And the thing I want to

  425. highlight here is that it says the

  426. believers from among the circumcised,

  427. the people that Peter had brought with

  428. him who probably weren't a big fan of

  429. being even with the Gentiles said if the

  430. spirit can be poured out here, the

  431. spirit is for all of us.

  432. >> This was a big big moment. When they

  433. stepped into power, greater things

  434. happened. When they stepped into power,

  435. it led to Acts 10:47-48

    Acts 10:47–48

  436. where they said, "What do we have to do?

  437. We give our lives, we're going to be

  438. filled. We're going to offer everything

  439. to him. Church, the power of the Holy

  440. Spirit simply changes

  441. everything. The people being filled,

  442. being just overflowed with the goodness

  443. of God and his spirit in their lives.

  444. Come on, church. Our God is so, so good.

  445. And there's still that one more in

  446. Ephesus, Acts chapter 19. As we rewind

    Acts 19 chapter mention

  447. that story in verse 5 and 7 on hearing

  448. this,

  449. the word had been spoken. They were

  450. baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

  451. And when Paul had laid his hands on

  452. them, the Holy Spirit came on them and

  453. they began speaking in tongues and

  454. prophesying.

  455. There were about 12 of them here in

  456. Ephesus who experienced the power of

  457. God, the filling of God, the Holy

  458. Spirit. They spoke in tongues. The power

  459. happened that led to 50,000 pieces of

  460. silver worth of demonic witchcraft books

  461. being burnt

  462. because the people turned their lives to

  463. the Lord because the power of God.

  464. Because the Holy Spirit showed up in

  465. power.

  466. Each one of these stories, each one of

  467. these places shows people being filled

  468. with the spirit and then stepping into

  469. victory. shows being filled with the

  470. spirit and then what was no longer

  471. being.

  472. And in fact, before we take some moments

  473. and draw this all together, I want to go

  474. back even one more step because they

  475. only didn't start here. But where did

  476. they come from? What did it look like?

  477. And I want some people here to really

  478. engage. This is, I believe, a word for

  479. some folks in the room today that with

  480. these three stories, most of us, maybe

  481. all of us, could fit ourselves in one or

  482. the other or the other of these stories

  483. because it's amazing. God does not only

  484. pour his self out on people who have got

  485. it all together, who haven't messed up,

  486. who are perfect. Oh, wait. We'd be in

  487. big, big trouble. But sometimes we put

  488. that pressure on oursel. Lord, I messed

  489. up. Lord, I I'm not sure. I don't know

  490. if I can do it. I don't know if I I I

  491. messed up. And people have done things

  492. and I I just can't. But let's look at

  493. what kind of people

  494. open their hearts to the Lord to step

  495. into power and step into victory. Maybe

  496. all that we really need is to be willing

  497. to step into availability that leads us

  498. to power, that leads us to victory.

  499. And here as we look at that first story

  500. of Peter, Acts chapter 2, and we're

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  501. actually going to back it up to Luke

    Luke 22:61–62

  502. 22:61-62

  503. says, "And the Lord turned, Jesus turned

  504. and looked at Peter. And Peter

  505. remembered the saying of the Lord, how

  506. he said to him, before the rooster crows

  507. today, you will deny me three times."

  508. And he went out and wept bitterly. Why?

  509. Because he had just denied the Lord

  510. three times. And Jesus walks in in the

  511. middle of, in the process of, and sees

  512. Peter do exactly what Jesus told Peter

  513. that he was going to do.

  514. I don't know about anybody else, but if

  515. you're the right-hand man, if you're the

  516. one that that guy trusts, if you're the

  517. one that that is the rock, the one

  518. that's going to be uh building and and

  519. putting that church uh moving it in the

  520. right direction, when you in the

  521. greatest need of your Lord, and you come

  522. and you do exactly what you told him you

  523. would not do, and you deny him, say, "I

  524. don't even know the man. I don't even

  525. know him."

  526. You denounce even knowing him.

  527. That's the kind of guy that just a few

  528. weeks later the Lord will give power to

  529. and the Lord will use to bring victory.

  530. The Lord will use to see 3,000 people

  531. come to know him. Is that guy Peter that

  532. I don't even know him. in Cornelius's

  533. house. In Acts chapter 10

    Acts 10:25

  534. verse 25, it says, "When Peter entered,

  535. Cornelius met him and fell down at his

  536. feet and worshiped him. But Peter lifted

  537. him up saying, "Stand up. I too am a man

  538. and just going to stop here for a

  539. moment. Nobody else, but that's a that's

  540. a rough start." Like that's not the best

  541. start. It's like I'm trying to do things

  542. right. Peter comes in and you like, "Oh,

  543. AND HE'S LIKE GET UP. WHAT'S WRONG WITH

  544. YOU?" SO, I JUST I JUST THOUGHT it

  545. should throw that out there. Anybody

  546. you're trying to do things right and

  547. sometimes even when you're trying, you

  548. mess up. Anybody else ever been in a

  549. spot where like, uh, thank you. A few

  550. honest people. A few everybody. Thank

  551. you. I see some more hands out there.

  552. Right. Cornelius, he's trying, but he

  553. kind of blows that one just a little

  554. bit. But Peter says, "Stand up. I too am

  555. a man." And as he talked with him, he

  556. went in and found many persons gathered.

  557. And he said to them, 'You yourselves

  558. know how unlawful it is for a Jew to

  559. associate with or to visit anyone of

  560. another nation, but God has shown me

  561. that I should not call any person common

  562. or unclean. So I just want us to put our

  563. mind in this moment. Peter just a few

  564. moments ago had denied Jesus in in Luke

    Luke 22 chapter mention

  565. chapter 22 when Jesus was walking the

  566. earth. He denied him. Now, Peter is

  567. bringing the message of the gospel to

  568. Cornelius's house where he is not even

  569. allowed to associate with them. And put

  570. yourself not in Peter's spot, but in

  571. Cornelius's spot, who the Lord has

  572. revealed himself to him, but he doesn't

  573. even know what to do. He doesn't know

  574. who to reach out to. And because of God

  575. leading him and showing him, Peter is is

  576. sent for and brought to Cornelius's

  577. house.

  578. and someone that's not even allowed,

  579. it's unlawful for him to share with,

  580. stands up,

  581. preaches the truth to him,

  582. offers the goodness of God, says, "Even

  583. though I'm not allowed in our law, I'm

  584. allowed because the God of the universe

  585. showed up and told me to come." And all

  586. of a sudden, we see that the Holy Spirit

  587. falls. In verse 44 through 46, all of we

  588. sudden we see that the family comes to

  589. know the goodness of God because of who

  590. he is. And not only that, but Peter's

  591. companions that he brought realized, "Oh

  592. man, this word is for more than just for

  593. us, but it's for the whole world." This

  594. was a massive moment where Cornelius

  595. didn't know what to do and and just

  596. wanted and needed more info, but where

  597. Peter from a vision from God said, "I

  598. will go." And he took the gospel where

  599. Cornelius's house could be filled with

  600. power, where their whole house, and who

  601. knows how much beyond that could come to

  602. know Jesus. Because the spirit church

  603. changes everything. The spirit church

  604. makes what wasn't possible possible. The

  605. spirit church makes Peter who denied

  606. Jesus stand up before 3,000 people that

  607. where they could give their lives to

  608. him. The spirit church is who would take

  609. that same Peter in a place I guarantee

  610. you in his own self did not want to be.

  611. But he got up and said, "Okay, I'll do

  612. what you said, Lord. I will go and I

  613. will speak the gospel to Cornelius, to

  614. these Gentiles.

  615. Enough that he even said, you know, this

  616. is not lawful.

  617. Church, God moves. And when we're

  618. available, both Cornelius and Peter had

  619. to be available so that Cornelius's

  620. house could be filled with the spirit

  621. and everything could change.

  622. And let's not forget that third one,

  623. Ephesus in Acts chapter 19, verse 1 and

    Acts 19:1

  624. two. And it says, "And it happened that

  625. while Apollos was in at Corinth, Paul

  626. passed through the inland country and

  627. came to Ephesus. There he found some

  628. disciples and he said to them, did you

  629. receive the Holy Spirit when you

  630. believed?" And they said, "No, we have

  631. not even heard that there is a Holy

  632. Spirit."

  633. Now, I just want to throw something out

  634. today.

  635. Have you ever been in a spot in your

  636. life where you just didn't have the

  637. information that you needed? You just

  638. didn't know. You like them say, "Holy

  639. Spirit, Holy Spirit who? I'm not sure

  640. what what that is. I don't know what

  641. you're talking about." Have you ever

  642. been in a spot with the Lord where

  643. you're like, "Oh, I probably shouldn't

  644. have been living like that. I probably

  645. shouldn't have been doing that. I

  646. probably should have looked a little

  647. different and acted a little different

  648. and done things a little different, but

  649. I didn't even know.

  650. I feel like when we fully make ourselves

  651. available to the Lord, all of a sudden

  652. it's not some big deal like, "Oh, I

  653. didn't know that yet, but I'm going to

  654. know cuz you're about to tell me. I'm

  655. going to experience. I'm going to have

  656. life change. I just didn't know yet."

  657. And one of these areas of our lives, we

  658. could say, "Wow, I just didn't know."

  659. Maybe we could say, "I didn't even know

  660. there was access.

  661. I didn't even know that the Holy Spirit

  662. was there. I didn't even know." Or maybe

  663. you feel like your life, like Cornelius,

  664. you're just on the outside. You're a

  665. gentile. You're not on the inside. I

  666. want you to know today, no matter what

  667. you feel like, no matter how people have

  668. treated you, no matter what anything has

  669. happened, that there's a God of the

  670. universe that will come chase after you,

  671. that will find you. And no, you're not a

  672. gentile. No, you're not just a sinner.

  673. No, you're not someone who can't and he

  674. won't. No, the opposite. He loves you so

  675. much and he'll bring you in. He'll bring

  676. us all in.

  677. Or like Peter, maybe today you've messed

  678. up. You knew. You knew way too much. I

  679. don't know. Peter, what a crazy guy. The

  680. one that was the closest to the Lord.

  681. The one that should have known. The one

  682. that should have done right. The one

  683. that How in the world did he POSSIBLY

  684. DENY JESUS? THAT GUY,

  685. that's the one that denied that Jesus

  686. came back to and showed his hands to and

  687. said, "Come on. Come on. Let's do this

  688. thing. Let's go after the things of

  689. God." He's the one that was filled with

  690. the Holy Spirit. He was the one that

  691. preached the gospel that the early

  692. church had to kickstart. Let's go in the

  693. power of God.

  694. church. There's something about the

  695. goodness of God, the love of God, and it

  696. takes us being available. It takes us

  697. being available as a people. It takes us

  698. like in Ephesus saying, "Hey, we didn't

  699. even know there was a Holy Spirit that

  700. led to on hearing this, they were

  701. baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus."

  702. And when Paul laid his hands on them,

  703. that Holy Spirit came on them and they

  704. began speaking in tongues

  705. and prophesying. That's how it happens,

  706. church.

  707. We hear, we experience, we open our eyes

  708. to the things of God, our ears to the

  709. things of God, and the power of God

  710. falls.

  711. Today, my question before we come to the

  712. altar, my question before we ask the

  713. spirit, Lord, would you move? I don't

  714. want to walk in my own strength or my

  715. own power. I want no part of that. But

  716. Lord, I need you and I need your spirit.

  717. Maybe there's people in the room that

  718. just like the people in Ephesus would

  719. say, "I didn't even know there was a

  720. Holy Spirit." And I want you to know

  721. Acts chapter 2 and Acts chapter 1 points

Acts 2 chapter mention Acts 1 chapter mention

  722. to it. And throughout the Old Testament,

  723. points to what God's going to do in the

  724. New Testament points to the spirit of

  725. God being poured out. These three

  726. stories as well as others throughout the

  727. New Testament, we see that the people

  728. were filled with the Holy Spirit and

  729. they spoke in tongues. Almost every time

  730. those two things go together. And we

  731. believe that when we ask the Lord, Lord,

  732. would you move? Lord, would you fill me,

  733. we should see the same thing happen,

  734. that we'd speak in other tongues, things

  735. that we don't know, we don't we didn't

  736. train for, we didn't practice, but they

  737. would speak out in boldness. But I want

  738. you to know that today, these stories

  739. are not about the people speaking in

  740. tongues. That's just something that

  741. showed what was happening on the inside.

  742. What happened is 3,000 people came to

  743. know Jesus. What happened was Cornelius

  744. and his household. And I guarantee you

  745. more from there experienced the power of

  746. Jesus. The people were filled with the

  747. Holy Spirit in Ephesus and all of a

  748. sudden they burnt their books of

  749. witchcraft. They gave those things over

  750. because the power of God was moving in

  751. such a powerful way. The the gift of the

  752. Holy Spirit is not about an encounter or

  753. about a moment or about speaking in

  754. tongues. Although those things happen

  755. and I am so thankful that they do, but

  756. they're about us living as changed

  757. people with lives that are fully devoted

  758. to him that we give it all to him. We

  759. offer him everything. That is why we are

  760. filled with the Holy Spirit. That's why

  761. the Holy Spirit came. In fact, he did

  762. not come for a special service.

  763. Although I love special service. I think

  764. he even does. Pastor, I think I think

  765. the Lord loves meeting with us. He loves

  766. those moments. We love I love them. But

  767. church, it doesn't stop at a special

  768. service or a special moment.

  769. It takes us out into the streets. Pastor

  770. Katherine mentioned taking those cards,

  771. having them with you. Why? So when the

  772. spirit kind of pricks you on the

  773. shoulder, YOU COULD SAY, "OH YES, THIS

  774. IS MY MOMENT. I can go invite. I can go

  775. bring. I can go pray. I can ask an easy

  776. way. Hey, want to come to a Christmas

  777. service?" I think you'll be encouraged.

  778. The spirit leads us and guides us.

  779. And so what is it that we need if we're

  780. going to experience the power of God?

  781. Who what kind of person do you need to

  782. be? Well, you can be a person who is

  783. doubting, who has denied, who has messed

  784. up, and who has absolutely gone the

  785. wrong way. In fact, right in front of

  786. Jesus, like Peter, if that's you today,

  787. you are a perfect example of someone

  788. that can experience the power and the

  789. presence of God. Anybody thankful that

  790. that's the kind of people that God

  791. invites that he would bring? Maybe

  792. you're like Cornelius and you feel way

  793. on the outside. He was he was a gentile,

  794. but maybe you just feel that way. You've

  795. always felt like, "Yeah, somebody else

  796. can, but I can't. That everyone else has

  797. the opportunity, but I don't." And I

  798. want you to know today that if that's

  799. you today, you can know that the power

  800. and the presence and the spirit of God

  801. is not here for the person next to you.

  802. He might be here for them, too, but he's

  803. here for you. The power and the presence

  804. of God is here for you. That you and

  805. your life will be transformed. That your

  806. life will be changed. That you'll be

  807. filled.

  808. That you'll speak in tongues. And then

  809. you'll go in power. That's the kind of

  810. person that is welcome. And maybe some

  811. are here and you say you're like the

  812. people of Ephesus and you simply didn't

  813. know. In fact, I love it. If you're here

  814. and every week that the word is preached

  815. and every time you get in it, it's like,

  816. wow, something new is revealed to you.

  817. Something new is open to you. It's what

  818. the word does. And I want to encourage

  819. you if that is you today, today is the

  820. day to say, "Whoa, I didn't even know

  821. there was a Holy Spirit." But if there's

  822. a Holy Spirit, and there is because it

  823. comes from and he is shown in the word,

  824. then Lord, I want your spirit to be

  825. poured out in my life so my life can

  826. make a difference. I want to step into

  827. power. I I'm available and I want to

  828. step into power. And Lord, I want to see

  829. victory in every area of my life. I want

  830. to experience the power and the goodness

  831. of God.

  832. He is so, so good.

  833. This morning, if the worship team, if

  834. you want to make your way back up here,

  835. we've talked about that today is our

  836. altar of revival service, and we have

  837. about an hour until noon. And our prayer

  838. is that over the next hour that the

  839. spirit of God will simply be poured out

  840. in this room. In fact, about a month

  841. ago, I was just I was just sitting and

  842. thinking and praying and I I just felt

  843. very strongly like the Lord would say,

  844. "Hey, I want to move. I want to pour the

  845. spirit out. I want to fill people with

  846. the spirit and I need opportunity. I

  847. need space. I need time." And I believe

  848. that today is the day where many in this

  849. house that you'd say, "I've never been

  850. been filled for whatever reason. I

  851. didn't know. I didn't understand. Maybe

  852. I'm like, "Nope, I'm not doing that."

  853. But today, you would say, "I see from

  854. the word and I want to walk in the power

  855. of God. I want victory. So therefore, I

  856. need power."

  857. And you'd say, "Lord, today, maybe the

  858. first time, I make myself available to

  859. you for this. I make myself available.

  860. Holy Spirit, whatever you want to do,

  861. whatever you want to speak today from

  862. your word, I want to receive."

  863. There's no reason. And there's nothing

  864. that holds you back from receiving his

  865. spirit except for one thing. And we can

  866. take care of that. And that's we need to

  867. have a relationship with Jesus.

  868. The God of the universe. The one that

  869. loves you more than any other. The God

  870. who sent his son Jesus to this earth.

  871. Who loves you more than any other. That

  872. was willing to go to a cross. Willing to

  873. die. What we celebrated a few minutes

  874. ago. He didn't stay dead, but he rose

  875. again. By his stripes, we are healed. We

  876. are saved. We're forgiven. We're set

  877. free. We church have the opportunity to

  878. come and to call on the name of Jesus

  879. today. Say, "Lord, we give you

  880. everything. We offer for you our life."

  881. And when we as a church family, when we

  882. say yes, we as individuals say yes, then

  883. the whole word is open. The power of

  884. God, the spirit of God is infilling in

  885. our lives.

  886. This gift of the spirit that we see in

  887. these three stories is open for you and

  888. open for me. So before we come to the

  889. altars and pray before we pray for the

  890. spirit, I want to give the opportunity

  891. just to say yes to Jesus. It's the most

  892. important thing that you can possibly

  893. do. It's the best yes. It's the thing we

  894. have to be willing. Lord, we give you

  895. all of us. So right now all over this

  896. room, if we can just bow our heads,

  897. close our eyes, and just put yourself in

  898. a a p a posture, a position of reverence

  899. to the Lord of just Lord, what do you

  900. want to speak? And maybe right now

  901. you're here in this room, and you'd say,

  902. "Wow, I've never given my life to Jesus,

  903. but this morning, I I feel the the knock

  904. on my heart." The Bible would say, "I

  905. feel the Lord speaking to me, and I

  906. don't want to leave this place without

  907. making him the Lord of my life.

  908. I want to give him everything.

  909. If you'd say today, that's me. I want to

  910. make Jesus Lord, the top rung in my life

  911. above everything. Then we're going to

  912. pray together. And before we do, I just

  913. would love to catch your eye. And if

  914. you, in fact, if you're in the left

  915. section, the right section as I look out

  916. to my left, you'd say, "That's me."

  917. Would you just raise your hand so I can

  918. see you? I just want to be able to pray

  919. and believe with you. Anybody in this

  920. section that you say, "That's me. I need

  921. Jesus. I need his power. I need his love

  922. in my life.

  923. Anybody? Or you want to rededicate your

  924. life? We're just going to take a second.

  925. It's the most important thing we can

  926. possibly do.

  927. What about in the left section as you

  928. came in? My right section. Anybody over

  929. here, you'd say, "That's me. I need to

  930. make Jesus the Lord of my life. I need

  931. to offer him everything."

  932. Perfect. Maybe you're at home today. If

  933. you need Jesus, all you have to do is

  934. say yes. And if we could as a church

  935. family, could we pray? Could we offer

  936. ourselves to him? And in fact, would you

  937. repeat after me? And as a church family

  938. that we're going to be unified, Lord, we

  939. give you everything. And if this is your

  940. first time, you mean it in your heart.
