  1. We are starting a brand new sermon

  2. series today called the Jesus way. And

  3. we're going to be looking out of John

    John 14 chapter mention

  4. chapter 14. And in fact, over the next

  5. uh couple few months, we're going to be

  6. looking at John 14 all the way through

  7. the end of that chapter. But today,

  8. we're going to be looking at John 14 1-

  9. 7. Now, when I think about what we're

  10. about to talk about, when I think about

  11. the world that we live in, uh, I think

  12. about people that might feel a little

  13. like the disciples and we're going to

  14. look at, but maybe there are hearts that

  15. are troubled. Uh, another way way I

  16. might be able to say it is maybe people

  17. that uh, have some anxious times in

  18. their life that things are difficult.

  19. They're not sure where to go or what to

  20. do. Maybe you could relate a time or two

  21. in your life. A a mind that is racing, a

  22. heavy heart, uh thoughts that are

  23. spiral, spiraling, you know, trying to

  24. sleep, but maybe all that happens is

  25. things are running through your mind,

  26. whatever it might be today. Uh I think

  27. we can sometimes relate with the

  28. disciples, the thoughts of what if this

  29. falls apart, what if I fail? What if God

  30. doesn't come through? And the disciples

  31. in John chapter 14 uh are following

    John 14 chapter mention

  32. obviously 13. And in 13 Jesus tells his

  33. disciples that he is going away. Now if

  34. you can just imagine you've been with

  35. Jesus three and a half years, you're

  36. ready. You're like, "Woo, this is

  37. awesome." You believe he's going to be

  38. the reigning king, which he is, but in a

  39. different way, right? And he says, "Hey,

  40. I'm about to leave. And not only am I

  41. about to leave, but you can't come with

  42. me." And all of a sudden, all of the

  43. feelings came for them. They must have

  44. been troubled. They had to have been

  45. confused. They were afraid. Their whole

  46. world was shaking.

  47. In fact, the future that they envisioned

  48. for themselves was uncertain.

  49. Jesus had announced that he was leaving.

  50. Their protector, their leader, their

  51. miracle worker, their hope for the

  52. future kingdom.

  53. And I can't go. we can't go along on the

  54. journey that he's taking.

  55. In fact, not only that, but we also just

  56. saw that he predicted that one of them

  57. would betray him. He predicted and

  58. truthfully that Judas would leave and he

  59. left and then he would betray him. That

  60. Peter was told that he would fail.

  61. Everything that made sense to them was

  62. crumbling to the ground. And that's when

  63. in John chapter 14 verse one, he gives

    John 14 chapter mention

  64. some words that maybe some of us need to

  65. hear today. He says, "Let not your

  66. hearts be troubled. Believe in God,

  67. believe also in

  68. me." Woo! All of the things of life, all

  69. of the things that are happening, all

  70. the things that are shaking the very

  71. ground, it would feel like that they

  72. were walking on. And Jesus comes and

  73. says, "Let not your hearts be troubled."

  74. Today, as we jump in and this message

  75. today, thinking of stop the spiral. How

  76. do we stop when it seems like things are

  77. out of control? when it things like we

  78. can't do anything maybe in our culture

  79. or world or politics or just looking

  80. around or if you watch the news we

  81. probably shouldn't but CNN or Fox News

  82. or whatever other one that you would

  83. watch all of a sudden we look and it

  84. seems like things are spiraling out of

  85. control and what do we do we listen to

  86. the words of Jesus let not your hearts

  87. be troubled

  88. as As we think of this, the first thing

  89. I want us to look at today is that worry

  90. it lies. But Jesus leads. The things of

  91. life all around us, the worries, the

  92. fears, the the loneliness, the stuff we

  93. do not understand

  94. can feel so incredibly loud. But I want

  95. someone to hear today that just because

  96. something is loud doesn't mean it's

  97. true. Just because something is loud

  98. doesn't mean it's what we should

  99. embrace. Just because it's the loudest

  100. voice in the room doesn't mean it's what

  101. is right and what is true and it's not

  102. necessarily of the Lord. In fact, worry

  103. would say you're alone. Worry would say

  104. you can't make it. Worry would say God

  105. has forgotten you. Worry would say the

  106. future is dark or even the future it's

  107. over. What was going to be is no longer

  108. possible.

  109. But when we look at Jesus, that is not

  110. the word that Jesus would give to you.

  111. He says, "Don't let your heart be

  112. troubled."

  113. Now, in this moment, he didn't say that

  114. no trouble would come. He didn't say

  115. that you wouldn't have problems or that

  116. you wouldn't have tribulations. He

  117. didn't say that there wouldn't be

  118. persecution or there wouldn't be

  119. sickness. He did not say those words.

  120. But he said, "Let you not your heart be

  121. troubled."

  122. Why? Because trouble doesn't get to rule

  123. your heart. If Jesus is Lord of our

  124. life, then trouble and worry and anxiety

  125. and sickness and whatever else you want

  126. to throw in cannot come to the name of

  127. Jesus. The stuff of the world must come

  128. underneath of him. And maybe you're here

  129. and you say, "So is faith this thing

  130. that when we say,"Lord, would you move?

  131. Would you speak?" I want you to hear

  132. today. It's not denial. It's not saying

  133. that there aren't bad things, but faith

  134. is saying that I'm going to transfer the

  135. troubles of my life, the worries of my

  136. life, the weight of my life. I'm going

  137. to transfer that. You move weight from

  138. your shoulders to his. You move the

  139. weight from what you have to carry and

  140. you give it to Jesus. and you let his

  141. hands carry what you cannot.

  142. We don't defeat worry or trouble or

  143. anxiety just by thinking harder. If I

  144. just do a little more, if I think a

  145. little harder, if I I think stronger,

  146. then I'll be able to kill these things

  147. in my life. You that's not how we defeat

  148. it. You defeat anxiety and worry and

  149. trouble by trusting deeper, by trusting

  150. Jesus. You realize that worry it lies

  151. but Jesus leads. You realize that worry

  152. will defeat you if you let it. But if

  153. you let Jesus lead, then you will always

  154. be victorious.

  155. Let not your heart be troubled. Believe

  156. in God. Believe also in me.

  157. There's something about this walk,

  158. walking the Jesus way. There's something

  159. about following him and moving in him

  160. and finding strength in him, following

  161. the one that leads. And we're going to

  162. come back to verse 2 and three in a few

  163. moments, but first I want to read verses

  164. 4-6. And it says, "And you know the way

  165. to where I am going." Thomas said to

  166. him, "Lord, we do not know where you are

  167. going. How can we know the way?" Jesus

  168. said to him, "I am the way and the truth

  169. and the life. No one comes to the father

  170. except through me. And what do I hear

  171. when I when I listen here? When I think

  172. about what Jesus said, he says, "You all

  173. know the way." And Tom's like, "No, no,

  174. we don't. I don't know what I'm supposed

  175. to do. I we don't know how to get

  176. there." And what does he say? I am the

  177. way. What I think Jesus is telling us

  178. and I think it changes us and molds us

  179. as he's saying he is the way. He's

  180. telling some folks in the house today,

  181. you don't need all the details. You

  182. don't have to understand everything

  183. that's coming. You don't have to have it

  184. all pieced out and put in place because

  185. sometimes that's not how life is. But

  186. you don't need all the details when you

  187. know the way, when you know the Jesus

  188. way, when you know the word of God. When

  189. you are following him, the details you

  190. might be a little fuzzy on. You might

  191. not be able to see what's next or what's

  192. next month or what's next year, but all

  193. you need to be able to see is Jesus. I'm

  194. following the way, the truth, and the

  195. life. And when I can stay connected to

  196. you, anything is possible

  197. because faith is walking with a person.

  198. Faith is walking with our king and our

  199. savior. It's letting him lead us and

  200. guide us and direct us. But it's not

  201. controlling a plan.

  202. Sometimes, if you're like me, we want to

  203. have all the pieces and the parts and

  204. the understanding. We want it all done.

  205. We don't want to start something until

  206. we know that it's going to go how we

  207. want it to go. And you find through the

  208. word, you find through life experience

  209. that so often he gives you a step. And

  210. the question is, will I be obedient to

  211. take the step that he has, the Jesus

  212. way? Will I be obedient to step into his

  213. life and his truth? Or will I wait and

  214. have to control and understand and make

  215. sense of it? Because church,

  216. that's not what we're called to. That

  217. will build anxiety in our life. That

  218. will be build worry and trouble. I don't

  219. know the way to go. And Jesus says, "I

  220. am the way. Come to me. Walk with me. Be

  221. led by me."

  222. The other night we were at our young

  223. adult gathering and uh we were at our

  224. house had some great young adults there

  225. and one of our young adults Cole Brandon

  226. who sat right over there during our

  227. first service uh we were talking about

  228. this and talking about the flesh and

  229. sometimes it's easier to do the things

  230. of the world over the things of the

  231. spirit. And he just gave this great word

  232. picture and talked about the fact that

  233. when you're in the woods and you start

  234. going through a place that's never been

  235. walked through and there may be brush or

  236. there might be high grass and you start

  237. to walk that path and you start to clear

  238. it out and make it good. And the more

  239. that you walk on it, the more that you

  240. prepare it, the more you continue to go

  241. that same way, the more that what was

  242. difficult all of a sudden becomes the

  243. easy path. It's ready. It's clear. and

  244. our walk with the Lord. When we realize,

  245. I don't need to worry. I just need to

  246. follow Jesus. When we realize, I don't

  247. need the details, but I need to be on

  248. the Jesus way. We're hacking away at the

  249. worry and the anxiety. We're hacking

  250. away at the stuff that we're not made to

  251. carry and to hold. And instead, we're

  252. giving it to Jesus. And what seems so

  253. difficult becomes the path that we

  254. understand. It becomes the path that is

  255. the Jesus way in our life. And what was

  256. hard is now easy. And in fact to the

  257. point where now I'm like where I used to

  258. be and the things of the flesh and of

  259. the world. I don't have any desire. I

  260. don't have any want. That's not even in

  261. my life anymore. And all of a sudden

  262. what was so easy has become something I

  263. am uh maybe even ashamed of. I don't

  264. want it anymore. But where the way of

  265. Jesus is becomes life becomes truth. And

  266. all of a sudden I'm able to give to the

  267. Lord. Lord you take it. Lord Jesus, you

  268. take the troubles of life, the

  269. persecutions of life, the hardships, the

  270. things I've failed in, you take it all.

  271. You take it upon yourself. I don't have

  272. to understand. But what I need, Jesus,

  273. is I need relationship. What I need,

  274. Jesus, is I need your word. What I need,

  275. Jesus, is tell me where to take that

  276. next step and give me faith to take the

  277. step one after another after another.

  278. Anxiety

  279. and trouble breaks when we realize that

  280. worry demands certainty, but faith walks

  281. with Jesus anyway. And sometimes our

  282. minds want certainty. Our minds want

  283. clarity. And sometimes we just are in a

  284. place where we say, "Lord, I trust you.

  285. And I walk with certainty in you and in

  286. your power and in who you are.

  287. I can take off the stress and the weight

  288. of life because it's not me that has to

  289. carry it, but it's my God, my savior,

  290. the one that goes before me, the one

  291. that died for me, the one that sits at

  292. the right hand of the father and

  293. intercedes today. It's the Jesus way,

  294. church. That's what we need. The Jesus

  295. way. In fact, could we say the Jesus way

  296. uh all together? Three, two, one. It's

  297. the Jesus way. Come on. That's what we

  298. need.

  299. You know when we look and I skipped a

  300. few verses uh verse two and three and I

  301. want to go back now and look at those

  302. verses

  303. says if it were not so I would have told

  304. you that I go to prepare a place for you

  305. and if I go and prepare a place for you

  306. I will come again and will take you to

  307. myself that where I am you may be also.

  308. And you know, when I think about

  309. troubles and worries and anxieties and I

  310. think about all of these things, my past

  311. and think about what I've done or maybe

  312. what people have done to me, when I

  313. think about worry and ah, it's so hard

  314. to get rid of and it's so hard to not

  315. have to worry about the details.

  316. I think the thing that we have to

  317. understand before all is this right here

  318. that the God of the universe who came to

  319. heaven or came to earth from heaven to

  320. die for you and for me. He goes to

  321. prepare a place for you. And not only

  322. does he want you to walk with him, not

  323. only are we on a path leading towards

  324. him and towards the things of God, not

  325. only does he keep us from the stuff that

  326. will hurt us or hurt others, the sin of

  327. the world, but he prepares a place

  328. because he wants you there. And I want

  329. someone to hear today, he wants the

  330. person on your left and right there as

  331. well, of course. But it's not only about

  332. them. He loves you and he wants you to

  333. be with him. He wants you in heaven. He

  334. wants you in eternity. He wants the

  335. place that he builds for you, you to

  336. inhabit that. And church, one day when

  337. death comes upon us when we fold down

  338. the tents of our earthly body, that's

  339. not the end. That is only the beginning.

  340. That's only the beginning of no de tears

  341. or death or sorrow or sin. The place

  342. that he prepared for us being there with

  343. Jesus as face to face. I'm pretty

  344. excited about that moment. And I want

  345. you to know when we live our life for

  346. what is to come instead of living our

  347. life for what we see right here, then

  348. all of a sudden we can say, "Jesus, I

  349. don't need those worries anymore in my

  350. life. I'm going to trust you. It's your

  351. way, Jesus. I don't have to understand

  352. all of the things. And I I might want

  353. sometimes a little more clarity, but

  354. Lord, I don't need clarity. I need you.

  355. And if you're clear before me, I can

  356. walk in you and your power and your

  357. grace and your mercy in my life. And

  358. church, everything looks different.

  359. Jesus prepares a place for you because

  360. he loves you.

  361. And he doesn't love you because you're

  362. perfect. He doesn't love you because

  363. you've got everything figured out or

  364. because you've never messed up. In fact,

  365. the word of God says that he loves you

  366. so much even while you were yet sinners.

  367. He dies for you. He died for you. He

  368. loves you in your sin, in your pain, in

  369. your worry. He comes and gives you

  370. himself.

  371. Says this world is not the final

  372. chapter. Your story is going to end in

  373. the father's house. And that means

  374. today, church, you can take the backpack

  375. of all of the worry and the stuff and

  376. the control of life. You can offer it to

  377. the Lord. Let him be the leader of your

  378. life. walk the Jesus way and know he's

  379. prepared a special place for you.

  380. And I want to say it one more time. He

  381. of course loves the people next to you.

  382. But today, this isn't for them. This is

  383. for you. He loves you. He's got you. He

  384. holds you. And he doesn't want you to

  385. live with the anxieties and the worries

  386. of the world. Let him carry those for

  387. you as you say, "Lord, I'm going to take

  388. the next obedient step before you. And

  389. I'm going to walk in peace. I'm going to

  390. walk in purity. I'm going to walk in

  391. your power. And Lord, when I mess up or

  392. Lord, when I I I let things get in my

  393. mind that shouldn't be there or Lord,

  394. when I struggle, Lord, you love me. And

  395. Lord, I'm going to jump back on the path

  396. of righteousness, the path of your

  397. goodness." He loves you.

  398. He's so good.

  399. You know when we look at this and we

  400. look at these these words in verse 7 the

  401. last verse today it says if you had

  402. known me you would have known my father

  403. also from now on you do know him and

  404. have seen him

  405. and if we come to the father through

  406. Jesus and if Jesus shows us the father

  407. we can know him and through his word

  408. church our whole life is transformed and

  409. the spiral that we can put ourselves in

  410. the spiral that it may feel like our

  411. world is in. What does the world need?

  412. What do you and I need? We need Jesus.

  413. We need to know the father. And we have

  414. to know Jesus to know the father. And

  415. today that's what our call is is come to

  416. me all you who are weary and heavy

  417. laden. I will give you rest. He says do

  418. not be troubled. Don't let that be where

  419. we live.

  420. And today I believe God is speaking to

  421. some folks. Don't live in the trouble.

  422. Don't live in the difficulties. There

  423. might be difficulties, but don't live in

  424. those. Live in the power of Jesus. Live

  425. in the Jesus way.

  426. All you have to do is come to Jesus.

  427. Give everything to Jesus. Open your

  428. heart up to Jesus. worship team, if you

  429. want to make your way on up here as we

  430. are going to close with a time of prayer

  431. and a time around the altar today. But I

  432. want to give some challenge while the

  433. worship team comes. And I I think I've

  434. got three words that some people in the

  435. room need to hear,

  436. just closing this up, wrapping this up.

  437. The three things first today is you

  438. don't have to fix everything. The first

  439. one, you don't have to fix everything.

  440. God is the one that restores. God is the

  441. one that makes new. And we get to trust

  442. him and rely on him and put ourselves in

  443. his hand. The second thing is you don't

  444. have to know everything.

  445. Some of you looked at the person on your

  446. right or left there. That wasn't very

  447. nice.

  448. You don't have to know everything. God,

  449. he's the one that leads. He's the one

  450. with all knowledge. He's the one that

  451. will give you what you need. He's the

  452. one that will give you the strength.

  453. He'll lead you on his way.

  454. For a third group, you don't have to

  455. carry everything.

  456. You don't have to hold it. You help

  457. people. You walk through situations.

  458. You've been through situations. But the

  459. Lord today would say, "You don't have to

  460. carry those things.

  461. Let me take those things and walk with

  462. me. Walk in my path. Walk in my plan.

  463. You just have to come to Jesus and live

  464. the Jesus way. You don't have to fix it

  465. all. You don't have to know it all. You

  466. don't have to carry it all. Let him do

  467. that and watch him do something mighty

  468. and powerful in your life as we give him

  469. control and say, "Lord, I I know many of

  470. us, probably all of us, we want control,

  471. but Lord, we want and we choose today to

  472. live your way, which means it's not my

  473. control. I don't have to lead it. I

  474. don't have to fix it. I don't have to

  475. carry it. Lord, I give it to you. Every

  476. part of who I am. And Lord, I'm thankful

  477. that I don't know why, but Lord, I'm

  478. thankful that you want me. You want us.

  479. Everyone in this room, everyone online

  480. that ever hear this word. Jesus wants

  481. you. He loves you so much. He died and

  482. now he prepares a place for you. And

  483. church, if you're living in any other

  484. reality than that, it's time to come

  485. back to the truth of the word of God. He

  486. died for you. He loves you. And he's

  487. waiting. One day, we're going to all be

  488. in heaven together if we just live his

  489. way and give our lives to him.

  490. He loves you so much. And don't be

  491. discouraged. You mess up. We all mess

  492. up. Don't be discouraged. You sin. Yeah,

  493. we don't want to sin, but get back up.

  494. Get back on the path. and his grace is

  495. sufficient for you. Don't let the devil

  496. tell you that you're not good enough.

  497. Don't let him tell you you can't

  498. accomplish it. Don't let him tell you

  499. that the Lord loves everybody else but

  500. not you. It's a lie. The word of God is

  501. true. And he says, "Don't be troubled."

  502. He says, "I go and prepare a place for

  503. you." He loves you. And today, as we

  504. close this time, I'm going to invite our

  505. prayer team to come to the front and

  506. we're going to pray. And maybe you need

  507. a healing in your body. Maybe you need

  508. something. You need God just to show up

  509. in might and power. We believe in the

  510. power of prayer cuz his word says by his

  511. stripes we are healed. His word says

  512. we'll do even greater things than he

  513. did. Which is mindblowing.

  514. But church, that's what he said. So

  515. what's that mean? We're going to believe

  516. today that he's going to heal and

  517. restore and set free and make new.

  518. Church, we're going to believe and ask

  519. him to do something special. And maybe

  520. today you're in one of those camps that

  521. you naturally have that feeling. I have

  522. to fix it. I have to know it. I have to

  523. carry it. And you say, I need to get

  524. those and give those to the Lord. And I

  525. would invite you, this room is going to

  526. be a place of prayer. Maybe come to an

  527. altar and kneel. Maybe come and agree

  528. with one of these this morning. Let's

  529. give uh the God the the glory and the

  530. power and believe by faith that he will

  531. make new and restore. And we're going to

  532. sing a song and worship him. But before

  533. we do, I want to give one more

  534. opportunity.

  535. And if you'd say today, I've never made

  536. Jesus the Lord of my life. I've never

  537. offered him every part of me. You have

  538. never I said, Lord, forgive me of my

  539. sins. I repent of the past. I make you

  540. the Lord for the rest of my life. Today

  541. is the day. I believe. And if he's

  542. knocking on your heart's door, I

  543. encourage you, don't miss this moment.

  544. In fact, as a church, if we could just

  545. bow our heads, close our eyes, which you

  546. don't have to do to pray, but just to to

  547. pray. Let's pray right now. Let's begin.

  548. But if you say, "I've never made Jesus

  549. the Lord in my life." Right now, all

  550. over this room, I want to ask you if

  551. that's you, would you just raise your

  552. hand? Would you say that's me? I want to

  553. see you when I catch your eye. When I

  554. see your hand, you can put it back down.

  555. Anybody in this room, it's the greatest

  556. thing we can do is say yes to him.

  557. That's why we exist as a church. That

  558. one more would know Jesus. Anybody in

  559. this room? Maybe you're at home today.

  560. Maybe you're online or watching on

  561. YouTube or Facebook or a podcast later

  562. on. If you need Jesus, all you have to

  563. do, Lord, forgive me. I give you my

  564. life.

  565. I repent of my sin. Be the Lord of my

  566. life for the rest of my life. And it's

  567. not about the words, but you pray. You

  568. give him your heart. And all of a

  569. sudden, we say, "I'm going to live your

  570. way." The Jesus way. The word of God is

  571. real and powerful. that will transform

  572. your life. But if you're able this

  573. morning, if you can, can we stand to our

  574. feet together? We're going to worship

  575. him. We're going to praise him as we

  576. close this time together. But we're

  577. going to pray. And if you need the touch

  578. of God, the power of God. Maybe you've

  579. never come to the front before. I

  580. encourage you. The word says where two

  581. or three are gathered and we have at

  582. least two on each prayer group and you

  583. make three. So, anything is possible

  584. when we come together and believe. So

  585. let's let our faith arise,

  586. Lord. Let us live your way. I don't have

  587. to carry it. I don't have to know it. I

  588. don't have to fix it. I just need to

  589. live for you, Jesus. And watch him do

  590. something special. So Lord, right now,

  591. we ask you to pour your spirit out in

  592. this room. We ask you to heal, to

  593. restore, to make new, fix things in our

  594. lives, fix things that are hurting or

  595. wounded. Lord, things that are troubled.

  596. Maybe we just don't understand. Lord,

  597. today, would you make us new and whole

  598. and powerful in you? Not because of us,

  599. but because of your strength and your

  600. goodness.

  601. Let worry be gone in the name of Jesus.

  602. Anxiety or depression must flee in the

  603. name of Jesus. Having to do it and carry

  604. it all, Lord, we give it to you, that

  605. must go in the name of Jesus. And we

  606. pray healing and wholeness and people to

  607. be set free and made whole in this place

  608. today. So Lord, we come believing. We

  609. come with faith arising. We come today

  610. and submit to you, Lord, as we sing this

  611. song. Heal, restore, make new, and

  612. change our lives. Jesus, we give you all

  613. of us. And we say we will live the Jesus

  614. way. Come on, let's worship him.
