  1. Come on. It is a great day to be in the

  2. house of the Lord. We're going to spend

  3. some time at the end at the altars just

  4. asking Holy Spirit to move and to to

  5. show himself in a special way. And that

  6. leads us to today which we're going to

  7. be in John chapter 16 uh verses 7-1 15.

    John 16 chapter mention

  8. And as I've been thinking about and

  9. walking through this uh sermon series,

  10. Spirit and Fire, been thinking about the

  11. helper, the word that is used here in

  12. chapter 15 and 16 of John, the helper.

  13. And I was thinking about a few weeks ago

  14. I shared and I talked about fixing my

  15. lawn mower. How many you were here you

  16. remember the lawn mower story and gas

  17. and yeah thankfully it's still working.

  18. Uh nothing no more gas leaks. Nothing is

  19. exploded. So I think that's a good win.

  20. Uh but this last week we had a situation

  21. here where if you can believe it our

  22. church lawn mower broke down. It's it's

  23. uh it's an awesome mower but it's

  24. getting older so it breaks down. You

  25. know that those things happen. But I

  26. used wisdom this time. You know what the

  27. wisdom was is? I called my dad. I was

  28. like, "Hey, dad, this belt is not

  29. working." By the time we got around to

  30. it, like the spindle had fallen off and

  31. all this stuff. So, um, I fixed this

  32. lawn mower all by myself with the help

  33. of my dad. Well, I mean, really what

  34. happened was he fixed the lawn mower and

  35. I cheered him on. I did run to the store

  36. and I went and got the part, but I

  37. actually went in and got the part and it

  38. was just the spindle circle piece and I

  39. was like, "Hey, I called dad after I

  40. bought it. They said you can get the

  41. whole unit like it's all attached. He's

  42. like, "Get that one." Yeah. So, I went

  43. back in, took it back, got a new one,

  44. got the part, and my dad and I really I

  45. did, but we I put it on. I I hand him

  46. the rich wrench. At least he did the

  47. rest. But, you know, I got it fixed all

  48. by myself. It was great right out there,

  49. and I was so proud of myself. And it

  50. took like 10 minutes. Like, literally,

  51. by the time I got back, Dad, I mean, I

  52. had everything ready to go. And it just

  53. went on and off and so so quick and so

  54. smooth.

  55. And you know when I was thinking about

  56. it, putting all jokes aside, I was

  57. thinking about the helper in our life. I

  58. was thinking about the power of the Holy

  59. Spirit and what the Holy Spirit does and

  60. how the Holy Spirit moves in our life.

  61. And so often in my life, I want to do it

  62. like just by trying. I'm like, if I just

  63. watch enough YouTube videos, I can

  64. accomplish it. If I just have enough

  65. gumption and just make it happen and try

  66. hard, I can make it happen. That's what

  67. I did a few weeks ago when I tried to

  68. fix my own mower and it did not go well

  69. and I thought I might start the whole

  70. house at least the mower on fire which

  71. thankfully didn't happen. So the Lord

  72. was gracious. But then when I had dad

  73. help me, you know what? It was so fast

  74. and so easy and he had the right tools

  75. and like pulls this and does this and

  76. cranks this thing and says, "Hey, can

  77. you hold this?" And I'm like, "Yes." I

  78. didn't even get any grease on me. It was

  79. great. I was ready for church on

  80. Wednesday night. It was like everything

  81. was awesome. Everything was moving. And

  82. something happens when we realize the

  83. spirit wants to help us. And when the

  84. spirit helps us, our life is entirely

  85. different. It works entirely different.

  86. Everything happens entirely different.

  87. And I was joking around about saying, "I

  88. accomplished the mower being fixed here.

  89. I didn't do anything on that mower." And

  90. you know what? I think sometimes the

  91. Holy Spirit wants to help us understand

  92. that we don't have it. We might not have

  93. the skills or have the ability or have

  94. the the uh whatever we need to make it

  95. happen. But the spirit of God, the

  96. helper within us, he's got all we need.

  97. And on the other side of when the spirit

  98. guides and the spirit helps us, oo,

  99. anything is possible. You can accomplish

  100. anything with the power of the Holy

  101. Spirit. You can accomplish anything when

  102. the helper is there. And it might be

  103. just like me with my dad and that mower.

  104. And all I did is he said, "Hey, can you

  105. hand me the wrench?" I'm like,

  106. 50/50 chance. This one. I think it's

  107. this one, right? Or, hey, give me the

  108. pliers. Okay, I know what those are.

  109. Something happens when we realize the

  110. Holy Spirit's the one that knows. He's

  111. the one that has it. He's the one that

  112. gives the wisdom. He's the one that

  113. gives the guidance. And all the pressure

  114. goes off. And dad and I fix that mower

  115. in record time because mostly I stayed

  116. out of the way and dad fixed the mower.

  117. And the spirit wants to do the same in

  118. our life. And this morning we're going

  119. to look at John chapter 16 7-15 and just

    John 16 chapter mention

  120. see how this plays out and what this can

  121. look like in our life when the spirit

  122. when the helper moves within us. Now,

  123. right before this, just to be sure we're

  124. all on the same page, John 15, John 16,

  125. John 14, if we go back another chapter,

  126. Jesus is telling his disciples, "Hey,

  127. I'm about to be out of here. I'm going

  128. to be gone, but you're going to remain."

  129. And the disciples are not liking it.

  130. They're not a big fan. And then because

  131. Jesus is just an encourager, he begins

  132. to tell them that they're going to be

  133. persecuted and the religious leaders are

  134. going to hate them and people are going

  135. to come against them and all of these

  136. things that the the world is going to

  137. miss who Jesus is and what Jesus wants

  138. to do and they are going to have to

  139. stand strong, right? Anybody? I was

  140. kidding. Like that's like no Lord, you

  141. can't. No, don't do it. Don't leave.

  142. Please God, don't leave. But then he

  143. gets to verse seven here of John 16. And

  144. he says, "Nevertheless, I tell you the

  145. truth. It is to your advantage that I go

  146. away. For if I do not go away, the

  147. helper will not come to you. But if I

  148. go, I will send him to you. And when he

  149. comes, he will convict the world."

  150. Concerning sin and righteousness and

  151. judgment. Concerning sin, because they

  152. do not believe in me. Concerning

  153. righteousness, because I go to the

  154. Father, and you will see me no longer.

  155. Concerning judgment, because the ruler

  156. of this world is judged. I still have

  157. many things to say to you, but you

  158. cannot bear them now. When the Spirit of

  159. truth comes, he will guide you into all

  160. truth. For he will not speak on his own

  161. authority, but whatever he hears, he

  162. will speak, and he will declare to you

  163. the things that are to come. He will

  164. glorify me, for he will take what is

  165. mine and declare it to you. All that the

  166. Father has is mine. Therefore, I said

  167. that he will take what is mine and

  168. declare it to you.

  169. there. I I hope you just feel the the

  170. richness, the depth like this. This is

  171. so vital to our walk with the Lord that

  172. the helper comes and the helper gives us

  173. what we need. And we're going to look at

  174. three things this morning that are so

  175. just they're glaring from this text that

  176. we can grow in. And I believe the spirit

  177. that he wants to speak to you and to me

  178. through. The first is that the Holy

  179. Spirit awakens need. He says, "I tell

  180. you the truth. It is to your advantage

  181. that I go away. For if I do not go away,

  182. the helper will not come to you." The He

  183. is saying, "It is a good thing. The

  184. helper is going to come. The helper is

  185. going to bring life." And I I just want

  186. to be sure we're thinking about this.

  187. They have been walking with Jesus. They

  188. have been walking with the savior of the

  189. universe, the one that's about to die,

  190. that's going to go to the cross and then

  191. rise again. They've been walking with

  192. Jesus. And Jesus tells you, "It's better

  193. if I leave. It's better if I go away

  194. because the one that is coming."

  195. We're like, "What? Jesus, how is it

  196. possible?"

  197. But the truth of the word comes because

  198. if I go, I will send him to you. And

  199. when he comes, he will convict the world

  200. of concerning sin and righteousness

  201. and judgment.

  202. The spirit of God is needed in our life

  203. just like he was needed in the disciples

  204. life. And Jesus would even say even the

  205. fact that I leave that I step out that I

  206. move and let you then step in and the

  207. Holy Spirit guide you and direct you.

  208. Why? Because the spirit awakens the

  209. need. The spirit convicts the world

  210. concerning sin, righteousness and

  211. judgment. The Holy Spirit convict uh

  212. does something in us and conviction then

  213. awakens awareness. If you didn't know,

  214. that's the point of conviction. Not so

  215. you are condemned and so you're beat

  216. down. That's the opposite of the word of

  217. God. But conviction says, "Oh, I need to

  218. take a step in the right direction."

  219. Now, how many of you have ever done

  220. something in your life and you were

  221. convicted? You knew that was not the

  222. right thing. Anybody raise your hand

  223. real high if that's been you? Yes. I I

  224. think everyone in the room, we've had

  225. those moments. Maybe as a parent where

  226. you're like you say something to your

  227. kid or you are louder, you're whatever.

  228. You're like, "Ah, I don't know if that

  229. was my best parental moment." or as a

  230. spouse or as an employee or employer

  231. like there's just moments where like

  232. conviction has awakened awareness but

  233. it's not only there to just awaken

  234. awareness but that awareness is then

  235. created to awaken hunger there's

  236. something about being conict uh being

  237. con convicted there's something about

  238. this awareness that arises within the

  239. people of God that all of a sudden we

  240. say Lord Jesus you move I now have a

  241. hunger for you I have a desire for you I

  242. have something I need and I realize a

  243. need that I can't do on my own. We jump

  244. back in the Old Testament of the Bible.

  245. Ezekiel 36:26 says, "And I will give you

    Ezekiel 36:26

  246. a new heart and a new spirit I will put

  247. within you and I will remove the heart

  248. of stone from your flesh and give you a

  249. heart of flesh and I will put my spirit

  250. within you and cause you to walk in my

  251. statutes and be careful to obey my

  252. rules." There's a an awakening, an

  253. awareness that happens. There's a hunger

  254. that happens and the spirit then guides

  255. and helps us accomplish the things of

  256. God.

  257. It helps to show us, ooh, my life isn't

  258. what it should be.

  259. It helps us to realize and the world

  260. around us to realize that when we look

  261. and maybe news or what society would say

  262. whether it's in the United States of

  263. America or anywhere else in the world

  264. that we say oh so often as Jesus had

  265. just been sharing

  266. what the world says and what the world

  267. says they need and who you are and what

  268. you say is right and what is needed are

  269. not the same thing.

  270. The spirit awakens need in our life and

  271. shows us we need to take a step with

  272. him. In Acts 2:38, just after Jesus has

    Acts 2:38

  273. gone to the cross on the day of

  274. Pentecost, the spirit has been poured

  275. out. Right after on that day, Peter gets

  276. up and says, "Repent and be baptized,

  277. every one of you, in the name of Jesus

  278. Christ for the forgiveness of your sins,

  279. and you will receive the gift of the

  280. Holy Spirit." There's an awareness that

  281. happens. The spirit comes and all of a

  282. sudden we want to repent. We want to be

  283. baptized and then we want the spirit to

  284. move in our life because the spirit

  285. awakens hunger. So hunger can be met

  286. with filling. We say, "Lord, I don't

  287. only want to be convicted. I want to

  288. have awareness. Lord, I don't only want

  289. to have awareness. I want to have

  290. hunger. And Lord, I don't only want to

  291. have hunger, but I want to be filled."

  292. This morning I was thinking and I don't

  293. know why this uh just has escaped me for

  294. my whole entire life. But chicken

  295. tenders that have or chicken thighs I

  296. mean that you grill on a grill that have

  297. bones in them. If

  298. Pastor Brian I don't know. I've never I

  299. don't think I've ever had such a good

  300. piece of meat. We'll have you over

  301. sometime. We need to have everybody

  302. over. Like you eat them and you say I

  303. need more of these things. They fill

  304. you. And guess what? The spirit of God,

  305. he wants to fill us. Not only say, "Hey,

  306. there's a problem. Hey, here's some

  307. awareness. Hey, you should do something

  308. about it. You're hungry. But no, he

  309. wants you, just like you eat your

  310. favorite meal, he wants you to

  311. experience him and to be filled with him

  312. to the point where you just sit there

  313. and you're like, "That was awesome." I'm

  314. sure I'm not the only one that does that

  315. with food. I definitely do. Just give me

  316. a little coma moment. It's going to be

  317. great. Like, praise the Lord. Well, way

  318. better than that food is the spirit of

  319. God that fills us and and does something

  320. because there's a a need that is

  321. awakened that leads us to hunger and

  322. leads us to filling. The Holy Spirit

  323. awakens the need. Second, the Holy

  324. Spirit guides us into truth. Verse 12

  325. and 13, I still have many things to say

  326. to you, but you cannot bear them now.

  327. Now, we have to stop right there. I just

  328. want us to remember, put ourselves back

  329. in that moment.

  330. Jesus is walking with the disciples.

  331. Jesus has been with them for three and a

  332. half years. We're not talking about some

  333. idea of Jesus. We're not talking about

  334. even what we have, which is great, the

  335. word of God. No, he he has been walking

  336. with them. They are literally together.

  337. They're seated. They're they're in this

  338. place. He's teaching them. And he says

  339. to them, "I still have many things to

  340. say to you, but you cannot bear them

  341. now." He's saying, "You're not ready.

  342. you can't do it. You're not ready even

  343. though I'm here. And he says that when

  344. the spirit of truth comes, he will guide

  345. you into truth. For he will not speak on

  346. his own authority. He's saying even what

  347. I could not share with you. But we

  348. didn't have time and you weren't

  349. prepared for and you weren't ready to

  350. receive. Spirit will do that. The spirit

  351. will work. The spirit will show up. And

  352. just like the disciples needed the

  353. spirit, church, we even more need the

  354. spirit. We need the spirit of God. We

  355. need his guidance. We need to know the

  356. truth in our life. Said what for? He

  357. will not speak on his own authority.

  358. Whatever he hears, he will speak who

  359. from the Lord from Jesus. The things of

  360. God are going to be spoken to us through

  361. his spirit. And he will declare to you

  362. the things that are to come. The spirit

  363. of God is vital for the Christian, is

  364. vital for the world that we open our

  365. hearts and say, "Holy Spirit, you are

  366. the one that guides. You are the one

  367. that directs." And I want you to know

  368. just like that lawn mower with my dad if

  369. I mean it's like it's perfect. He is

  370. there. My dad was there. My dad says,

  371. "Hey, go get this part." And I pray that

  372. we're open when the Lord says move. That

  373. we get up and move. When the Lord says

  374. go, we get up and go. When the Lord

  375. says, "Hey, stop doing that." We stop

  376. doing that. When the Lord says, "Hey,

  377. not the spindle, but get the whole unit

  378. that goes with it." Then we say, "Yes,

  379. sir." And we do what the spirit of God

  380. would say because he guides us into the

  381. truth. And the lawn mower doesn't

  382. matter. But your heart, your life, your

  383. situation, your family, the world around

  384. you, the people that you interact with

  385. matters in everything. But you know

  386. what? He'll he'll lead in our parenting.

  387. And he'll lead us with practical things

  388. of our life that have nothing to do with

  389. people because he's with us in all

  390. things. He wants to guide his church

  391. into truth.

  392. Truth in the Christian life. It's not

  393. discovered by effort. It is revealed by

  394. the spirit. It's not something that we

  395. just make happen, but it's revealed by

  396. the spirit. And so often we say, "If I

  397. just try one more time, that addiction,

  398. I can overcome it. If I just try one

  399. more time, I don't need help. I'm just

  400. going to work harder." We say, "If only

  401. I can make this step. If only I can say

  402. yes. If only I can maybe maybe the Lord

  403. will help me and I I don't know, but I'm

  404. going to try on my own." church, we're

  405. not strong enough.

  406. I can speak for myself and I'm going to

  407. speak for you, too. You're not strong

  408. enough to break the addiction that you

  409. failed the last hundred times.

  410. I'm a encourager this morning. But we're

  411. not called to be strong enough. We're

  412. not called to know the hows and the wise

  413. and the whats. What we're called to do

  414. is come to the spirit of God and let the

  415. spirit guide us into truth. Let the

  416. spirit guide us into wholeness. Let the

  417. spirit guide us into what we should do.

  418. In fact, in Exodus 13:21, all the way

    Exodus 13:21

  419. back at the beginning of the Bible, the

  420. children of Israel, they're wondering.

  421. It says, "And the Lord went before them

  422. by day in a pillar of cloud to lead them

  423. along the way, and by night in a pillar

  424. of fire to give them light that they

  425. might travel by day and by night." What

  426. am I trying to say here? God never

  427. expected his people to find the way

  428. alone. He doesn't expect you to find the

  429. way by yourself. He doesn't expect you

  430. to just try harder, to give a little bit

  431. more effort. But what he does ask is

  432. that we come before him and we say,

  433. "Holy Spirit, I need to be filled by you

  434. so you would give me the power. You

  435. would give me the strength. You would

  436. give me the wisdom." And you know what

  437. the Holy Spirit does? He guides us into

  438. knowing what we need to do to accomplish

  439. it. Which might mean, you know what, our

  440. marriage, we need to go get counseling.

  441. It might mean, hey, I need to be a part

  442. of a group that's pushing me forward in

  443. my spiritual walk. It might mean that I

  444. have to get something or ways or, you

  445. know, real practical, we might need to

  446. get our phone and just smash them with a

  447. hammer. If our phone is causing us to

  448. sin, we don't need that. Get a dumb

  449. phone, not a smartphone, right? I don't

  450. know what the Lord is going to speak to

  451. us, what the spirit's going to speak,

  452. but he's going to guide us into the

  453. truth of the word, the truth of who

  454. Jesus is, the truth of the father, and

  455. in the process, he'll give us what we

  456. need to not stay where we are, but to go

  457. where he would call us to go into

  458. righteousness and to purity and to

  459. faithfulness.

  460. And not because you just try harder, but

  461. because you submit. And I submit to the

  462. power of God in our life.

  463. And then I want you to know you can

  464. truly accomplish anything with the power

  465. of God. You can accomplish anything.

  466. Anything that has bound you can be cut

  467. off and be no more in your life.

  468. Anything that you thought was just who

  469. you were and you couldn't do anything

  470. about it. No. With the power of the Holy

  471. Spirit, you can overcome by the word of

  472. the lamb, by the the blood of the of the

  473. lamb and the word of your testimony. You

  474. can experience new life. But not because

  475. you just say, "I'm just going to do it.

  476. I'm just going to make it happen because

  477. I'm too weak and you're too weak. But

  478. when the spirit of God leads us into

  479. truth, anything

  480. is possible for those who believe. And

  481. the spirit of God is here for us.

  482. I think there's something about clarity.

  483. And when I think of truth and I think of

  484. where we're going and individually but

  485. also as the church that clarity in your

  486. life follows spirit empowerment. If you

  487. feel like I just I'm not sure life is

  488. difficult. I'm I'm confused or I don't

  489. know what's the way to go. Or maybe

  490. you're just doubting even in your walk

  491. with the Lord and you say I I I'm not

  492. sure what to do and where to go. I'm not

  493. sure how to get there. I want you to

  494. hear today that the God of the universe,

  495. he went Jesus to heaven and he sent the

  496. helper to give you clarity, to give you

  497. truth, to empower you.

  498. And why would we think that we can do it

  499. without his power and his strength? If

  500. literally the disciples walked with

  501. Jesus and Jesus says, "It's even better

  502. that I go so the helper can come."

  503. That's what he leaves for his church.

  504. The Holy Spirit awakens the need. The

  505. Holy Spirit guides into truth. And

  506. third, today the Holy Spirit declares

  507. Jesus. Verse 14 and 15 say, "He will

  508. glorify me for he will take what is mine

  509. and declare it to you. All that the

  510. father has is mine." Therefore, I said

  511. that he will take what is mine and

  512. declare it to you. He declares Jesus

  513. through you, to you, to the world

  514. through you. He declares Jesus in a way

  515. that we cannot understand simply by

  516. knowledge or reading. And I want to make

  517. this like super clear. I am so confused

  518. in life because in times when I think

  519. about the word of God, there are people

  520. that go to college for theology. They go

  521. to college to study the Bible, but they

  522. are not in a place of relationship with

  523. Jesus. They're just studying about the

  524. Bible. And I want you to know today, you

  525. can know all the information and all the

  526. facts and all the understanding in the

  527. world, but if the spirit isn't leading

  528. us into truth and what that means and

  529. why it matters, then I can know

  530. everything and be entirely lost.

  531. Several years ago, Rachel and I got to

  532. go to Israel and we had the greatest

  533. guide that he walked us through the Holy

  534. Land like almost story by story, space

  535. by space, situation by situation. He

  536. very rarely got his Bible out because he

  537. had it memorized and he could speak the

  538. truth of the Bible with such clarity and

  539. it was absolutely amazing. But we found

  540. out that Ofer his name that Ofer does

  541. not follow Jesus that Ofer doesn't have

  542. a relationship with Jesus. In fact,

  543. being in the Holy Land, he's not a

  544. Christian nor is he a practicing Jew

  545. either. He is just a doesn't believe

  546. anything. It's just knowledge. It's just

  547. information. And the guy who brought the

  548. Bible land to life

  549. completely missed the whole entire

  550. point.

  551. And church, it is possible that we can

  552. be people that even study or know the

  553. word, but we never let him transform who

  554. we are. And church, the spirit is here

  555. to give us and to guide us into truth,

  556. to declare Jesus to us. That we're not

  557. here on a Sunday just to sing some songs

  558. and to celebrate even cool things that

  559. happen. We're not we don't come to an

  560. altar just for a special moment, but we

  561. come because we want the power of God to

  562. change us, to mold us, to make us. And

  563. when we're confused or we just seem like

  564. things are foggy, we come to him and we

  565. ask, "Holy Spirit, would you give us

  566. guidance and direction because I need

  567. clarity and I I might know all the

  568. things in the world, but I need clarity

  569. from you." And that's what he does. He

  570. brings clarity.

  571. When we think of Holy Spirit baptism and

  572. what we're experiencing the word of God,

  573. it's not about a spectacle. Now, when we

  574. think of Acts chapter 2, it's pretty

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  575. spectacular. They had tongues of fire

  576. that showed up on their head and people

  577. are like, "That's crazy." Like fire on

  578. people's heads. They began to speak in

  579. other languages literally where people

  580. around them could hear their language

  581. that no one knew where they were. and

  582. they could speak and the wisdom and the

  583. words of God were being spoken like it

  584. was spectacular. But I want you to know

  585. that the spirit of God is not for a

  586. special moment and a special moment at a

  587. even a great moment at a stage which I

  588. love. I mean at an altar in a church

  589. service.

  590. It's not about a spectacle, but it's

  591. about receiving clarity of Jesus.

  592. Because when we receive clarity of who

  593. Jesus is, who's revealing God to us, all

  594. of a sudden we love different. We act

  595. different. We talk different. Everything

  596. we do looks entirely different because

  597. we see Jesus. We experience Jesus. We

  598. know Jesus. And not only in principle or

  599. in concept, but we begin to realize in

  600. deep within our soul, Lord, who he is

  601. and what he is. And all of a sudden, we

  602. say, "My life is not my own. I give

  603. everything to you. I lay it down at your

  604. feet because you are everything in my

  605. life." And not because we read one more

  606. scripture, although we want to for sure.

  607. Not because we went to one more group,

  608. but because the power of the Holy Spirit

  609. made those things make sense and bring

  610. clarity to our life. And even when life

  611. is hard and we don't understand and why

  612. do we get sick or why do I have cancer

  613. or why is a relational problem not going

  614. how I want, we walk and we can even walk

  615. saying, Lord, I trust you. And even in

  616. the middle of difficulty, I have clarity

  617. of who you are. I know who you are. I

  618. keep my eyes on you even while life

  619. might be the most difficult.

  620. I can trust my God, my Savior, and my

  621. Lord. Isaiah 11:2 says, "And the spirit

    Isaiah 11:2

  622. of the Lord shall be upon me, him, the

  623. spirit of wisdom and understanding, the

  624. spirit of counsel and might, the spirit

  625. of knowledge and the fear of the Lord."

  626. When I think about these words that are

  627. spoken of Jesus and then to the church,

  628. the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon

  629. him.

  630. church, we need this. And why? For

  631. wisdom,

  632. for understanding, for counsel, for

  633. might, for knowledge. Right? Anybody

  634. need those things? Like, Lord, I need

  635. that. I need those things in my life.

  636. But you know, there's one more, that

  637. last one. It said, "For the fear of the

  638. Lord, the fear of the Lord." And I think

  639. we as a church need to get back to a

  640. place where we understand, Lord, I love

  641. you and Lord, your grace is enough, but

  642. Lord, I also am called to fear the Lord.

  643. the more knowledge and understanding and

  644. wisdom I have, the more I fear the Lord.

  645. And not like I'm scared he's going to

  646. get a sledgehammer and bonk me with it.

  647. But I mentioned my dad a little bit ago.

  648. And you know what? When I was growing

  649. up, uh my dad, okay, he's still he can

  650. be very intimidating, I think, would be

  651. a word that I could use if you know him

  652. well. In fact, I grew up and I had just

  653. a little bit of a fear of my dad. Not

  654. like he was going to come and beat me.

  655. Not that kind of fear, but I didn't want

  656. to disappoint my dad.

  657. And as I grew in life, I realized the

  658. main reason I didn't want to disappoint

  659. my dad is because if I disappointed my

  660. dad, I was hurting myself in the long

  661. run because he had good plans and good

  662. dreams and good things and good rules

  663. and the things were all about leading me

  664. in the things of God and the things of

  665. righteousness. And I hated it when I

  666. disappointed my dad.

  667. I had a little bit of a fear of my dad.

  668. And I think people that are close to my

  669. dad, they might also have just a little

  670. bit of fear like of my dad just a little

  671. bit in a healthy way and way more

  672. is God.

  673. I want to do what God has called me to

  674. do. I want us as a church to be who God

  675. has called us to be. We need to have a

  676. healthy fear of our Lord. Lord, that we

  677. give you everything. We honor you. We

  678. give you glory and holy spirit. Help us

  679. walk in truth. Help us walk declaring

  680. you and wisdom and understanding and

  681. counsel and might and knowledge. And

  682. Lord, help us be in a place where we

  683. have a healthy fear of our God to say, I

  684. want to give you everything, honor you

  685. with everything, give you every part of

  686. my life. And Lord, I don't want to

  687. disappoint and I don't want to sin

  688. against you. And why sin hurts us, it

  689. hurts others. Like he wants the best for

  690. us. And when we understand that when we

  691. fear a healthy fear of the Lord, our

  692. life is going to go better. Things are

  693. going to go right. We're going to be a

  694. to take forward movement in him. Church,

  695. that's what we desire.

  696. It's Lord, I want you to be declared in

  697. my life. Holy Spirit, I want you to be

  698. declared in my life. I want to walk in

  699. your power, your wisdom, and your might.

  700. Peter in Acts 2:36 says, "Let all the

    Acts 2:36

  701. house of Israel therefore know for

  702. certain that God has made him both Lord

  703. and Christ, this Jesus whom you

  704. crucified." This is Peter who denied

  705. Jesus to a servant girl. This is Peter

  706. who went the wrong way, did the wrong

  707. things when Jesus needed him the most,

  708. and now stands up not long after. Jesus

  709. rose again, but he was crucified

  710. probably within a mile of this location,

  711. maybe two at the most. Right there,

  712. Jesus was crucified. And now he stands

  713. up. Let all the house of Israel

  714. therefore know for certain that God made

  715. him both Lord and Christ. This Jesus

  716. whom you crucified, he stood up with the

  717. power and the wisdom and the truth of

  718. God, declaring Jesus because he was

  719. filled just minutes before with the

  720. power of the spirit.

  721. When the spirit fills a person, Jesus

  722. doesn't need to be defended. He is

  723. declared through your life and actions.

  724. And Peter got up and he gave the truth

  725. of who God was in a powerful and in a

  726. real way. And that's what we can all

  727. experience

  728. here in John 16. Everything Jesus

  729. promised to them, right? It was a mess

  730. for John 17 and 18 and 19, but they got

  731. to Acts chapter 2 and everything

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  732. changed. And what Jesus proclaimed began

  733. to happen and be demonstrated

  734. because conviction awakens hunger.

  735. Guidance brought clarity,

  736. revelation of who he is. And the spirit

  737. made them so powerful. And Jesus

  738. unmistakable in their life.

  739. I want you to hear one more time. Jesus,

  740. he doesn't just ask you to figure it

  741. out. He's not telling you today just try

  742. harder. He's not telling you today if

  743. you just if you just cared. No, he told

  744. the disciples and I think he tells us to

  745. wait until they receive the Holy Spirit.

  746. Church, where we've failed and where

  747. we've messed up and where we've not been

  748. good enough, we need the spirit of God

  749. in our life. Church, where your

  750. parenting seems like it lacks, you need

  751. the spirit of God in your life. where

  752. your relationships aren't what you think

  753. they should be, you need the spirit of

  754. God in your life. Where work or employee

  755. or employees or your finances aren't

  756. what they should be, you need the spirit

  757. of God in your life. Maybe you're

  758. witness to the world around you. You

  759. need the spirit of God in your life and

  760. watch him give you what you need to

  761. accomplish his will. But we want to do

  762. it without him. And it doesn't work that

  763. way.

  764. Peter loved Jesus. Peter had gone allin

  765. with Jesus. Peter had believed and

  766. trusted him with everything and he

  767. failed and he denied Jesus

  768. because he needed the power of the Holy

  769. Spirit.

  770. That's what we need today.

  771. Pastor Rachel and worship team, if you

  772. can come on back up. We're going to

  773. spend some time here as we close. We

  774. left some time just to spend in his

  775. presence to ask him to move to ask him

  776. to fill us with his spirit to see what

  777. Jesus just might do in this place in our

  778. lives as we continue to ask him. Lord,

  779. awaken something in me. Show me what I

  780. need. Guide me into truth. Lord, I want

  781. my life to declare Jesus in everything

  782. that I do. And maybe you're here today

  783. and you say, "I am in a place where I

  784. just need Jesus." You need to take that

  785. first step. step into relationship with

  786. him. Repent. It says number one, then be

  787. baptized. You need to repent.

  788. If you're here and you say, "I've never

  789. made Jesus the Lord in my life." That's

  790. where we're going to start this morning

  791. is just by saying, "Lord, what do you

  792. want to do? How do you want to move?"

  793. And the Bible tells us all we have to do

  794. is repent. All we've got to do is

  795. believe. Confess with our mouth and

  796. believe that he is Lord and Savior. He

  797. welcomes us. And if you're here and you

  798. say, "I've never made Jesus the Lord in

  799. my life." No better time than right now.

  800. That's why we are here as a church

  801. family is to say yes to Jesus, to give

  802. him glory, to give him honor just by

  803. giving him our life. And if you're here

  804. and you say, you know what, I've never

  805. made Jesus the Lord of my life. Or maybe

  806. I did, but I'm not walking consistently

  807. with him and I want to rededicate my

  808. life to him. If you'd say, that's me. In

  809. a moment, I'm just going to ask you to

  810. raise your hand and I'm going to scan

  811. across the room and just that I would

  812. see your hand. Then we're going to pray

  813. together. one person I see one hand

  814. we're going to pray in the room you're

  815. home all you have to do is ask him Lord

  816. forgive us but if that's you you feel

  817. him knocking

  818. you feel him calling you today this is

  819. the moment

  820. we can't give our lives or save our

  821. lives by our good deeds by how great we

  822. are we've sinned and we've fallen short

  823. of him but he came he died as the

  824. perfect sacrifice so that he gives us

  825. life he makes us pure he makes us

  826. righteous before him. If you say, "I

  827. need Jesus. I want to say yes to him

  828. today." I'm going to ask you to raise

  829. your hand. Start on my left side, your

  830. right side, over here. Is there anybody

  831. you'd say, "That's me. I need to say yes

  832. to Jesus." Anybody here? I don't want to

  833. miss you. I'm scanning across the room.

  834. Anybody on the right section, your left

  835. section, you say, "That's me." Anybody

  836. over here, you say, "That's me."

  837. Most important decision that we can

  838. possibly make.

  839. I love it. There's nothing like it. If

  840. you're at home today, if you're in the

  841. room, all you have to do is ask him,

  842. "Lord, forgive me. Make me new. Make me

  843. whole." He welcomes you. He brings you

  844. into his family and he opens up. Well,

  845. we got to celebrate today.

  846. I had four people between the two

  847. services who said, "I want the world to

  848. know I've given my life to Jesus."

  849. Can be baptized. And then we can be

  850. baptized in the Holy Spirit. And today

  851. we're going to take a couple of songs, a

  852. little extra time as we close and just

  853. ask him, Lord, Holy Spirit, would you

  854. fill me? Would you make me new? Would

  855. you let faith arise? Next Sunday, we're

  856. going to be talking Acts chapter 2. Acts

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  857. chapter 2:4. Be filled with the Holy

  858. Spirit. But we don't have to wait till

  859. next week. Do we today can can let him

  860. speak and let him move in our life.

  861. He's so good.

  862. He gave the promise. He offered that

  863. promise to us. And now we can say yes to

  864. him. And maybe you're not filled with

  865. the spirit with the evidence of speaking

  866. in tongues like in Acts chapter 2. I

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  867. invite you just to ask him, Lord, I want

  868. to be filled. Spirit, would you fill me?

  869. Then all of a sudden, you just ask him.

  870. Our prayer is you'll sense a moment

  871. where you say, "Wow, I I need to begin

  872. to speak in a language I don't know."

  873. And you have to be the one to take the

  874. step. It rises from your spirit, but

  875. then you give voice to that those words.

  876. And he fills you. We don't speak English

  877. then. We don't have to analyze. We just

  878. speak what he would share. But it's all

  879. about our hearts being in a place of

  880. surrender of Holy Spirit, I need to hear

  881. you. I need to know you. I need to

  882. experience you. Holy Spirit, move in my

  883. life. Awaken the need. Show me your

  884. truth. And Lord, I want Jesus declared

  885. in me and through me to my
