  1. Well, so thankful this morning and uh

  2. just excited about what God is doing.

  3. And if you've been here the last couple

  4. of weeks, you know we've been talking

  5. out of John chapter 16 and really

    John 16 chapter mention

  6. talking about Jesus as he tells his

  7. disciples that it's time for him to go

  8. and that they're going to stay, but that

  9. a great thing is happening in him

  10. leaving that the Holy Spirit is going to

  11. be sent. And so generally I might tell

  12. funny stories or I might make up a

  13. story. You don't know. Sometimes you

  14. know you can decide. uh today there's

  15. none of that if it's all right. This is

  16. probably not what they tell you to do. I

  17. don't know in seminary or wherever it

  18. is. But we're just going to teach the

  19. word of God and we're going to look

  20. literally all the way back from Genesis

  21. through the prophets through Kings

  22. through the Old Testament. We're going

  23. to look at the New Testament, what Jesus

  24. said. We're going to look at what the

  25. disciples experienced in Acts. And we're

  26. going to talk about as we close it out

  27. today, what our response should be to

  28. the word of God. And my goal is not a

  29. ton of commentary, not a ton of this is

  30. what the word says, but we're going to

  31. look at the word and let it so much just

  32. speak for itself. And my prayer as the

  33. word says is that faith would arise

  34. within us. And my prayer, if this is a

  35. new topic entirely, let the word speak

  36. clearly. If you're like, woo, this is my

  37. favorite topic, let the word and his

  38. spirit speak clearly. Or maybe you're

  39. like, I'm not sure. I I've heard things.

  40. Let the word speak clearly. Not me, but

  41. let the word speak. And I believe as his

  42. word speaks, we're all going to be able

  43. to take a step. We're going to be able

  44. to grow. We're going to say, "Lord, what

  45. do you have?" And we're going to

  46. experience his life, his power, his

  47. goodness in our life in a powerful,

  48. powerful way. So, let's jump right in.

  49. Let's tune in as we're going to fly

  50. through what God has this morning from

  51. his word so we can spend time at the

  52. altar as we close today seeking Holy

  53. Spirit in our lives. So, first today,

  54. the promise of the spirit from Genesis

  55. to the prophets. Important. This didn't

  56. start in Acts. It didn't start in Acts

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  57. chapter 2 or Acts chapter 2:4, but it

  58. started in creation and through the Old

  59. Testament. Genesis 1:2 says, "The earth

    Genesis 1:2

  60. was without form and void, and the

  61. spirit of God was hovering over the

  62. waters." Because God spoke light, the

  63. spirit was present. Before form came to

  64. creation, the spirit was moving. the

  65. Holy Spirit, not a force, not some

  66. thing, but an eternal, personal, and

  67. divine. Our God, part of the Godhead of

  68. God the Father, God the Son, and God the

  69. Holy Spirit. In the Old Testament,

  70. however, we see this work followed a

  71. pattern that is different from the New

  72. Testament. We see the spirit came upon

  73. people. We see for a specific purpose

  74. and for a specific limited season. You

  75. say, "What are you talking about? What

  76. you think of Joseph? He had supernatural

  77. wisdom, dreams that were given to him."

  78. We see judges throughout the Old

  79. Testament that could bring deliverance

  80. and could have strength. We see prophets

  81. that revelation and utterance were given

  82. to them. But we see David, king, in

  83. Psalm 51:11 who says, "Cast me not away

    Psalms 51:11

  84. from your presence and take not your

  85. holy spirit from me." And there were

  86. seasons and times when these prophets,

  87. priests, and kings were filled with an

  88. extra dose of what God had of his

  89. spirit. God was with his people in the

  90. old covenant in the Old Testament, but

  91. not within his people. But the promise,

  92. the prophets, they promised a new day.

  93. In Joel 2:28, it says, "And it shall

    Joel 2:28

  94. come to pass afterward that I will pour

  95. my spirit out on all flesh. your sons

  96. and your daughters will prophesy. And it

  97. goes on talking about what will happen

  98. when the spirit is poured out here in

  99. Joel. The promise is for all flesh. It's

  100. for every person, not just kings or

  101. prophets or priests, not for the select

  102. individual or few. Ezekiel 36:27 goes on

    Ezekiel 36:27

  103. and says, "I will put my spirit within

  104. you and cause you to walk in my

  105. statutes. The Holy Spirit will be in us.

  106. Something different is to come that

  107. these prophets would speak of. It's not

  108. just an external power, but now an

  109. internal presence that goes before us.

  110. What the the prophets were speaking of,

  111. a new covenant, a new heart, a new

  112. relationship with the spirit of God.

  113. This was something that Israel waited on

  114. for generations for this promise to

  115. come. And when Jesus stepped onto the

  116. earth, all of a sudden there began to be

  117. a shift that took place. In Matthew

    Matthew 3:16

  118. 3:16, it says, "The spirit of God

  119. descending like a dove came and came

  120. resting on him." Jesus ministers in the

  121. power of the spirit. But yet John tells

  122. us in John 7:39, "For as yet the spirit

    John 7:39

  123. had not been given because Jesus was not

  124. yet glorified." The spirit was active

  125. but not yet given in fullness. Jesus was

  126. walking but his disciples were lacking.

  127. After the resurrection, Jesus commands

  128. in Acts 1 4 and 5, wait for the promise

  129. of the father. Says you will be baptized

  130. with the holy spirit. And we see here

  131. this isn't salvation. Not talking about

  132. salvation language and coming to know

  133. Jesus, but it's empowerment language.

  134. The promise will arrive. said, "Wait on

  135. the promise." And that's exactly what

  136. happens in Acts chapter 2. The promise

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  137. of the spirit was foretold all the way

  138. up through Jesus, all the way up through

  139. the last words that Jesus would speak to

  140. his disciples and to his people. But

  141. then the spirit was given. The promise

  142. of the spirit leads us to the presence

  143. of the spirit. And when we think about

  144. the spirit of God, there's there's

  145. elements and parts of what the spirit

  146. comes upon us when we come and we give

  147. our lives to Jesus. Verse when we're

  148. filled with the Holy Spirit as in Acts

    Acts 2:4

  149. chapter 2 verse 4 and we look throughout

  150. scripture, we see these distinctions

  151. that every believer has the spirit. But

  152. the story doesn't stop there. In John

    John 16:8

  153. 16:8 says he will convict the world

  154. concerning concerning sin and

  155. righteousness and judgment. That's the

  156. spirit. In Titus 3:5, he saved us by the

    Titus 3:5

  157. washing of regeneration and renewal of

  158. the Holy Spirit. Romans 8:9, anyone who

    Romans 8:9

  159. does not have the spirit of Christ does

  160. not belong to him. Ephesians 1:13, you

    Ephesians 1:13

  161. were sealed with the promised Holy

  162. Spirit. Your w your relationship with

  163. him, your walk with him, your your

  164. salvation comes with the Holy Spirit,

  165. but it is not complete. And why would we

  166. say that? Or why would we know? Not

  167. because anything is missing. We've got

  168. salvation. We we have the spirit. But

  169. because the disciples were told to wait.

  170. The disciples were told even though they

  171. had believed in Jesus and walked with

  172. Jesus, had given themselves to Jesus.

  173. Even though everything about their life

  174. had been given to him, they saw him, the

  175. risen Christ. Yet he told them to wait.

  176. Belief is good, but there's more.

  177. There's life, and there's power in his

  178. spirit. Acts 1:8 says, "You will receive

    Acts 1:8

  179. power when the Holy Spirit has come upon

  180. you, and you will be my witnesses." So,

  181. they had Jesus, they had relationship

  182. with Jesus, they had what we need to get

  183. to heaven. Praise God. But Jesus says,

  184. "But now you need to wait and you need

  185. to receive this power so you can be my

  186. witnesses." We see that it's Acts 2:4 is

    Acts 2:4

  187. a distinct empowering experience that

  188. takes place after we come to know Jesus.

  189. Acts 2:4 says they were all filled with

    Acts 2:4

  190. the Holy Spirit and begin to speak in

  191. other tongues as the spirit gave them

  192. utterance.

  193. This word wasn't conversion. This wasn't

  194. saying, "I believe in you and forgive

  195. me, Jesus." This was a spirit baptism of

  196. saying, "Lord, we've come. We've done

  197. what you've asked us to. We've waited on

  198. this spirit on on the power of God.

  199. We're here put together in one place.

  200. And now, would you move?" We see

  201. throughout the New Testament in

  202. different places that this is the

  203. pattern that happens in different

  204. groups, and different places, and

  205. different churches. In Acts chapter

  206. 10:46, it says they heard them speaking

  207. in tongues and extolling God. In Acts

    Acts 19:6

  208. 19:6, they began speaking in tongues and

  209. prophesying.

  210. Different people in different settings,

  211. but same experience and the same

  212. evidence of the power of the spirit

  213. being poured out on believers, on the

  214. church, on those who love Jesus. Tongues

  215. are the consistent biblical sign Luke

  216. chooses and records when the Holy Spirit

  217. comes upon you. the promise of the

  218. spirit, the presence of the spirit, this

  219. gift, this gift that he gives us. And

  220. they showed up in Acts chapter 2 as the

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  221. disciples had been waiting for 10 days,

  222. waiting on the the power presence of

  223. God.

  224. You know, when I think about maybe the

  225. the why, and this is important so often,

  226. I think about coming and saying, "Holy

  227. Spirit, would you move? Would you speak?

  228. I want to I want to walk in you." And I

  229. need I need this in my life. One more

  230. time, I want to just talk about the

  231. power of the spirit. Why would God want

  232. to fill us?

  233. Over the last two or three months, we've

  234. been talking through John 14 and 15 and

  235. 16 and jumped up to the the crucifixion

  236. and resurrection. And we see the

  237. disciples who are consistently in a

  238. place of we love you, Jesus. I'll never

  239. deny you in word. I I'll give you

  240. everything. But then in practice, they

  241. deny him. They run away. They hide. Even

  242. Peter the rock, the one that was going

  243. to basically run the church, he denied

  244. Jesus to a servant girl. How? Why?

  245. Because there was a knowledge and a love

  246. of Jesus. But they needed the power that

  247. Jesus spoke about in John 14 and 15

  248. specifically in 16 that they needed his

  249. power to be able to accomplish what they

  250. could not accomplish on their own. And

  251. what they showed clearly they could not

  252. accomplish because each one of them

  253. failed in some way in that process of

  254. standing true for Jesus.

  255. God does not fill us for spectacle.

  256. And I want this to be really clear. I

  257. love some of my favorite moments of my

  258. entire life are moments at an altar. A

  259. moment where maybe there's been

  260. spectacle. There's been cool things that

  261. happened. There's been moments where

  262. like, "WOW, THIS IS AWESOME." I'LL NEVER

  263. FORGET THAT MOMENT or never I want to

  264. stay in this moment. In fact, I think

  265. heaven is going to be pretty great. Uh

  266. really great. And what is it? It's going

  267. to be a big long altar time with Jesus.

  268. We're going to worship him. We're going

  269. to praise him. Wherever we go in heaven,

  270. we're going to be able to see him. Never

  271. separated from Jesus. I can't wait. And

  272. those moments seem in my life that at

  273. the altar are some of the best moments

  274. of connecting with Jesus with our

  275. family, with our church family. what

  276. Pastor Matt talked about when we're not

  277. only family in nursery or in Royal

  278. Rangers or girls ministries, but when

  279. we're family seeking the power of God,

  280. the goodness of God, the grace of God,

  281. that's special.

  282. But the Holy Spirit is not poured out

  283. only for a moment at an altar or for a

  284. spectacular moment, which may happen or

  285. maybe it won't be. Acts chapter 2, there

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  286. were tongues of fire that went on their

  287. head. They began to speak in other

  288. tongues. that pattern that we see

  289. throughout the word of God. It's not

  290. about the language, but it's about their

  291. lives being transformed and changed and

  292. their witness being totally

  293. revolutionized.

  294. Acts 1:8 says, "You will be my witnesses

    Acts 1:8

  295. once you receive." In Acts 4:31, after

    Acts 4:31

  296. the spirit was poured out, says they

  297. were all filled with the Holy Spirit and

  298. continued to speak the word of God with

  299. boldness. In Romans 8:26 it says the

    Romans 8:26

  300. spirit him itself intercedes for us with

  301. groanings too deep for words. And when

  302. we think about the power of the spirit

  303. we are filled and even then have the

  304. spirit of God interceding for us. I

  305. don't know about anybody else but I need

  306. his power. I need his strength. I need

  307. his goodness. I'm so thankful that our

  308. God is in heaven even now interceding

  309. for his people, his church. And if you

  310. say I can't do it. I'm not good enough.

  311. I don't have the power or the strength.

  312. I could tell you you are 100% correct.

  313. But the God of the universe, Jesus, he

  314. had to go to heaven and he sent the

  315. spirit of God. So therefore, you don't

  316. have to have the strength. You don't

  317. have to have the power. You don't have

  318. to have the ability. You need his

  319. presence and his power in your life. Cuz

  320. when he steps into your life, church,

  321. you've got all you need and so much

  322. more. And the deficit of our life turns

  323. into a surplus, an overflowing of the

  324. power and of the spirit of God who still

  325. intercedes

  326. for you and for me. And when I think

  327. about it, I'm just blown away. Lord, how

  328. why? Why do you even care? I don't

  329. understand. But I'm thankful. I don't

  330. have to care why he does. I know he does

  331. because he speaks it and his truth is

  332. real. And Lord, I need you in parenting.

  333. I need you in my marriage. I need you in

  334. my job. I need you with everything I do

  335. and everywhere I go. I don't know, maybe

  336. you're like me. I need you when I drive

  337. my car. I need you wherever it is.

  338. There's just people and I need your

  339. presence in my life. And he is here. And

  340. God wants us filled because Jesus told

  341. him, "When I go, I send another. When I

  342. go, there's going to be filling. When I

  343. go, you're going to actually have more

  344. strength, more power than I'm with you."

  345. What? No way. You could leave and we

  346. could walk in more strength. That is

  347. what he said.

  348. Christianity without the spirit, this

  349. empowering. Acts chapter 2, it becomes

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  350. effort. It becomes how much can I do and

  351. how many rules can I put in place to

  352. keep myself where I need to be? Cuz if

  353. you're like me, if I'm doing it on my

  354. own strength, I better have all the

  355. guard rails and all of the things and

  356. I'm going to fail anyways, but I can get

  357. better. It's effort. But when we walk in

  358. power, it goes from effort and it turns

  359. into supernatural power to help us walk

  360. and to go and to do what God has called

  361. us to do. And we may still put some

  362. guard rails in place, but it's not

  363. because of my strength or my wisdom. It

  364. becomes all him. Lord, what are you

  365. saying? What are you speaking? Where do

  366. you want me to step? What do you want me

  367. to say? How do you want me to deal with

  368. this situation? As we know him more, we

  369. realize we can walk in him and grow in

  370. him in a new and a powerful way that's

  371. so much bigger and better and stronger

  372. than what we could even imagine of doing

  373. on our own.

  374. Luke 11:13 says, "How much more will the

    Luke 11:13

  375. heavenly father give the Holy Spirit to

  376. those who ask?" And if you say, "I don't

  377. know. Why would God want me to have it?"

  378. He wants you to have power. And all he

  379. wants you to do is simply ask him. And

  380. when we ask how much more he'll give it

  381. to you

  382. rest receiving today it's not ye it's

  383. not striving it's yielding

  384. bringing ourselves to him he gives the

  385. utterance we give the voice we respond

  386. to what he does just like the disciples

  387. you know in Acts chapter 2 verse4 and

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  388. Acts chapter 1 verse 8 they didn't know

    Acts 1:8

  389. exactly what they were waiting on they

  390. knew there was the promise they knew

  391. some old testament they they had an

  392. understanding, but they didn't know what

  393. the moment was going to be. And they

  394. waited until the spirit of God was

  395. poured out and they said, "Whoa, we we

  396. see tongues of fire, tongues that came

  397. from them." They began to speak in

  398. languages of people they didn't know.

  399. Woo! Church, there's something that

  400. happens. There's something that happens.

  401. And God wants us to take that step. So,

  402. it's not about us, but every area and

  403. part of who we are is yielding. It's all

  404. about you. It's all about the spirit of

  405. God.

  406. promise of the spirit, the presence of

  407. the spirit, the power of the spirit. And

  408. you know, the last thing this morning is

  409. the participation

  410. of the spirit. And worship team, if you

  411. want to make your way back up here this

  412. morning,

  413. and the participation of the spirit,

  414. like what the spirit does, but also

  415. what's the participation of what we do?

  416. What's our job? What's our

  417. responsibility in this? This promise is

  418. given. The power is available. It's

  419. already been. It's already been offered,

  420. but now we get to choose to participate.

  421. Acts shows us multiple receiving

  422. moments. Not one template, but one cons

  423. or but consistent principles that we see

  424. in Acts chapter 2. We see waiting and

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  425. unity and prayer. Then we see overflow

  426. that happens. In fact, let's look at it.

  427. Acts 1:14, it says, "All these with one

    Acts 1:14

  428. accord were devoting themselves to

  429. prayer. They were united. They were

  430. together. or the rad fam the the

  431. disciples were together praying and

  432. seeking God. Then in Acts 2 verse 1 and

    Acts 2:1

  433. 4 it says when the day of Pentecost

  434. arrived they were all together in one

  435. place and they were all filled with the

  436. Holy Spirit and began to speak in other

  437. tongues. Something happened in their

  438. life in their ministry in who there

  439. were. Their whole lives changed when

  440. they were together they were in prayer

  441. they were united and all of a sudden the

  442. Holy Spirit was poured out. And what do

  443. we see just from these verses before we

  444. look at some more? We see obedience.

  445. They submitted themselves to Jesus and

  446. to his word. They said, "Okay, we're

  447. going to go wait." I don't know about

  448. anybody else, but to wait 10 days in

  449. prayer and believing and not know

  450. exactly what you're waiting on. That

  451. would be a big step of obedience.

  452. Anybody else in the room? Like 10 days.

  453. I think of vacation where we're doing

  454. things and I know what's happening.

  455. Sometimes at the end of 10 days, you're

  456. like, I got to go home. I need my bed

  457. and my job. Like I just need my normal

  458. life. These guys were praying, Lord, you

  459. said. You said to come. You said to

  460. pray. And that's exactly what they did.

  461. They submitted themselves to what Jesus

  462. commanded. They were united in one

  463. accord. They had a prayer or worship

  464. posture of Lord, we're going to pray.

  465. We're going to seek you.

  466. And you know what happens when there's a

  467. submission, obedience, a unity, a

  468. prayer, worship. Lord, you've got it.

  469. All in an instant. God initiates the

  470. move. We don't like get something or

  471. stir something up. No amount of music or

  472. whatever things. That's not what the

  473. spirit of God moves on. It's his power.

  474. And when we come together in unity, and

  475. maybe we're singing together, praying

  476. together, but we we're united together,

  477. and all of a sudden, he shows up, he's

  478. the one that initiates.

  479. And here in Acts chapter 2, the other

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  480. places we looked at, we see then they

  481. respond. They began to speak. God

  482. initiates and we speak.

  483. It's not about technique in receiving

  484. but is received by surrendered people.

  485. He'll position yourselves for obedience.

  486. When we come together and we're hungry

  487. and we come together and say, "I need

  488. you, Holy Spirit, in my life." Just like

  489. the disciples needed you, we need you to

  490. guide us and to direct us, to give us

  491. truth, to show us the right way to go,

  492. to be sure we don't get off track. And

  493. Lord, we need you for power. We need you

  494. for boldness. We need you for

  495. evangelism.

  496. Acts 8:12 says they believed and were

    Acts 8:12

  497. baptized both men and women. Believers

  498. baptized. Then they had hands laid on

  499. them as in they and verse 15-1 17 it

  500. says they prayed for them that they

  501. might receive the Holy Spirit. Then they

  502. laid their hands on them and they

  503. received the Holy Spirit. There's

  504. something about that unity and together,

  505. men and women being together, united,

  506. and something about the laying on of

  507. hands. And if you're like, I I don't

  508. like people touching me or I don't

  509. understand that. You know what? We don't

  510. have to understand his word. We just

  511. have to obey his word. And there's

  512. something in the word of God that when

  513. we pray and we believe and we lay hands

  514. on one another, God does something.

  515. Builds faith within us where two or

  516. three are gathered. And so often when

  517. people receive the Holy Spirit, hands

  518. were laid on them.

  519. There's an initiation. There's a into

  520. Christ in his empowerment in in his

  521. goodness, in the spirit of God being

  522. moved. Acts chapter 10:44 says, "While

  523. Peter was still saying these things, the

  524. Holy Spirit fell on all who heard the

  525. word." And I love this. I don't know if

  526. this me meant that Peter, Pastor Dave,

  527. is it possible talked a few two minutes

  528. long? I don't know. But the word was

  529. there. The faith rose. And even while he

  530. was still preaching, the Holy Spirit

  531. fell. And I want you to know that when

  532. the gospel is being spoke, when you're

  533. reading it, when a pastor is preaching

  534. it, when you're at a small group, when

  535. you or two or others are are gathered

  536. together, we never know when God's going

  537. to show up and do something or speak

  538. something that goes so far beyond what

  539. we thought might happen.

  540. Just like here, Peter's preaching and

  541. the Holy Spirit is poured out. Then in

  542. verse 46, for they were hearing them

  543. speaking in tongues and extolling God.

  544. This pattern, the gospel is preached,

  545. the word is spoken, they're united,

  546. they're praying, and all of a sudden a

  547. faith arises to even do something they

  548. might not even known what was coming,

  549. but we do because we have the word of

  550. God. In Acts chapter 19 says, did you

    Acts 19 chapter mention

  551. receive the Holy Spirit when you

  552. believed? This was big because they were

  553. followers of Jesus. They loved Jesus,

  554. but they didn't even know about the Holy

  555. Spirit. They said, "We don't even know

  556. what that is, who that is." And so they

  557. were taught. There was clear teaching as

  558. Paul taught them. And in verse six, it

  559. goes on, "When Paul had laid his hands

  560. on them, the Holy Spirit came on them

  561. and they began speaking in tongues and

  562. prophesying.

  563. Instruction matters." They said, "We

  564. don't even know who the Holy Spirit is.

  565. We don't even know what this is about.

  566. And there's something that happens when

  567. the word is spoken and faith arises that

  568. all of a sudden we say, "We're here. We

  569. didn't even know, but now I want what

  570. you're talking about." Not because Paul

  571. was the greatest communicator, but

  572. because the word of God is powerful and

  573. life-changing and builds faith within

  574. us.

  575. And church, today, you might be in a

  576. place where you say, "Hey, this is all

  577. new to me." Well, praise God. The spirit

  578. of God is here today. Or you might say,

  579. "Hey, I didn't even know anything." Or

  580. maybe I did, but I I've not really

  581. thought about it in a long time, or I

  582. was filled at one time, but I'm not

  583. sure. Well, today you can be refilled

  584. with the power of the spirit. Or maybe

  585. you come in and you're like, "Woo, this

  586. is the best spiritual moment. I've been

  587. living on fire for Jesus. I'm filled

  588. with his spirit." Guess what? He wants

  589. to fill you more with his goodness. He

  590. wants to come and meet you. He wants you

  591. to respond to him and say, "Yes." And

  592. who knows, maybe you just walk out and

  593. you're like, I am more fired up, ready

  594. to share Jesus. Or maybe today he guides

  595. you and leads you and gives you

  596. direction in a problem. Maybe some you

  597. didn't even know was coming. But as we

  598. walk in the power of the spirit, church,

  599. we say, "I need more of you." Every

  600. person in this room, wherever you are,

  601. and maybe you say, "I'm not even a

  602. follower of Jesus yet." Well, I want to

  603. encourage you today. You can say yes to

  604. Jesus. And from the moment that you give

  605. your heart to him, he says yes to you

  606. and he can fill you. You'll have his

  607. spirit as we looked at at the beginning.

  608. But he then will fill you even with his

  609. spirit like in Acts chapter 2:4, tongues

  610. and prophesying can happen from you

  611. today as we just say yes to Jesus

  612. wherever we are in this room. When I put

  613. these patterns that we just looked at

  614. together, maybe some rails to how do we

  615. receive? What's this look like? We see

  616. the promises proclaimed. The word of God

  617. proclaims faith. Like in Acts chapter

    Acts 10 chapter mention

  618. 10, we see the people are positioned.

  619. Their heart is opened. Obedience,

  620. hunger, Lord, we want you. We need you.

  621. Like in Acts 1:14, they're devoted to

    Acts 1:14

  622. prayer. We see that prayer is off

  623. offered. They begin to ask. They begin

  624. to intercede. Like in Acts 8 and

  625. throughout, they pray that they might

  626. receive.

  627. Many times there's a point of contact

  628. that takes place and there's a laying on

  629. of hands to say, "Lord Jesus, would you

  630. fill this person?" Same thing we do when

  631. we pray for healing, for anointing, for

  632. whatever it may be. We pray and the Holy

  633. Spirit is poured out, when hands are

  634. laid, and last an outward overflow is

  635. given. something happens and we believe

  636. that when we're filled with the Holy

  637. Spirit like in Acts chapter 2:4 and

  638. these other places, we speak in tongues,

  639. we worship, we praise, we prophesy, all

  640. of a sudden new things begin to flow out

  641. of us as his church.

  642. Church, these positions of you know be

  643. the promise being proclaimed of people

  644. that are position ready of our prayer

  645. being offered of of contact offering of

  646. laying on of hands and then an overflow.

  647. That's what we see over and over and

  648. over in the word of God.

  649. So, as we head towards a moment at the

  650. altar, what is this look like? How do we

  651. respond? How do we come before the Lord?

  652. There's two main things, those elements.

  653. We come submitted, we come ready, and

  654. then God supplies an utterance. He says,

  655. "Hey, it's moment you've crying out.

  656. You're asking, Lord, fill me with your

  657. spirit." And an utterance begins to

  658. arise within you. you and you're like, I

  659. don't understand. I don't know what this

  660. is. And you give the voice and you speak

  661. it out. That's what we see over and over

  662. again. In fact, for some that say, well,

  663. I don't understand that. For our

  664. Corinthians says for in 14:14 says, if I

  665. pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but

  666. my mind is unfruitful. And you say, what

  667. what's that mean? I want someone to hear

  668. today that when an utterance arises, you

  669. don't understand what is being said.

  670. That's the whole point of this other

  671. language. You don't understand. And you

  672. have to have faith to step out and say,

  673. "Lord, I'm going to speak out what

  674. you're giving me and believe that I'm

  675. touching heaven. I'm reaching you

  676. through this." A few verses before in 1

    1 Corinthians 14:2

  677. Corinthians 14:2, it says, "One who

  678. speaks in a tongue speaks not to men,

  679. but to God."

  680. And on Saturday morning and from 9 to

  681. 11, I encourage you to come to prayer

  682. time. And let me tell you, we're going

  683. to pray. And I bet an hour of the two

  684. hours I'm going to be praying in the

  685. spirit because you pray and you're like,

  686. "Lord, this is to you anyways." And God

  687. gives you a word and then I pray in

  688. English and then I pray in the spirit.

  689. Why? Because I don't have the words. I

  690. don't have the wisdom. I don't have the

  691. guidance. But when we come to him, he

  692. fills us. He anoints us. And we get to

  693. pray directly to God. What a blessing. I

  694. don't have to understand it. I don't

  695. have to get it. back to a few years ago,

  696. a a gentleman, he we had been talking

  697. and he came from a different uh kind of

  698. background in church and their

  699. fellowship or denomination and this Holy

  700. Spirit thing. They were like, he's like,

  701. I just don't understand. And so, we had

  702. been talking, had some time together,

  703. and it's actually Pastor Dave that

  704. preached and this guy, he came like when

  705. it was time, he came running to the

  706. front. He put his feet or his toes right

  707. at the front because that's what he was

  708. asked to do. And instantly, he was

  709. filled with the Holy Spirit. He began

  710. speaking in tongues as the spirit gave

  711. him utterance. It was wild. Just the

  712. week before we had been talking. He's

  713. like, "I don't understand. I don't

  714. know." And so then he was in our life

  715. group and got to ask him like, "Hey, is

  716. there anything you need to know or that

  717. we could answer for you?" He said, "No,

  718. I had tons of questions coming in before

  719. last Sunday." But when I came and when I

  720. was filled with the Holy Spirit, all my

  721. questions went away. I got it. I

  722. connected with the spirit of God. And

  723. church, there's times in our walk with

  724. the Lord, just like at salvation, I pray

  725. a prayer. and like I don't understand

  726. how I just pray and he welcomes me. I'm

  727. his child and I want you to hear today.

  728. Yeah, that's it. Because it's the power

  729. of God. And when we then say, Lord, I

  730. want to be filled with your spirit like

  731. in Acts chapter 2, you're saying, I just

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  732. come and I ask, would you fill me? And

  733. an utterance arises and I speak it out

  734. and I don't understand what's happening,

  735. but that's what I'm supposed to do. Yep.

  736. That's it. Why? Because the power of

  737. God, the spirit of God spoke and in his

  738. word, that's what we see happens. That's

  739. the principle. Well, that's the pattern.

  740. And so today, I don't have to get it. I

  741. don't have to understand, but like so

  742. much when it comes to God, when I

  743. receive his salvation, all of a sudden

  744. it makes sense. When I receive his

  745. healing, it makes sense. I don't know

  746. how God does it, but I understood. He

  747. healed. He touched. He gave me

  748. direction. He showed up in my life. And

  749. I don't understand how he did that. And

  750. the same here. I might not have all the

  751. mechanics of it, but I know that I come

  752. and God gives utterance and I give

  753. voice. Which means we're going to come

  754. and we're going to praise him. We're

  755. going to worship. We're going to ask him

  756. to move to be glorified. And then we're

  757. just going to come and we're going to

  758. say, "God, would you fill me with your

  759. spirit?" And there comes a moment when I

  760. have to turn off English. I have to turn

  761. off singing worship. And I begin to say

  762. what he would give me. The utterance

  763. when it rises. You don't have to think

  764. about it. You just say it. He's the one

  765. that fills you. You can't actually mess

  766. it up. He's the one that fills. He's the

  767. one that empowers what you are saying.

  768. You might say, "Was this for me? I'm not

  769. sure." Sure. Well, Luke 11:13,

    Luke 11:13

  770. how much more will the heavenly father

  771. give the Holy Spirit to those who ask?

  772. He in Old Testament for your sons and

  773. daughters, for all flesh, right? And now

  774. for today, how much more will he give

  775. his spirit? If you're not filled with

  776. the spirit, with what we would see the

  777. principle, the evidence of speaking in

  778. tongues, I encourage you, seek the Lord.

  779. Seek him. And we believe you're going to

  780. be filled. And we believe we are going

  781. to be more empowered when we say yes and

  782. we step out of this room with the power

  783. of the spirit of God. We don't have to

  784. get it all. We don't have to understand

  785. it all. But I guarantee you when you

  786. come and you connect with him all of a

  787. sudden it be like I learn so much more

  788. from a few moments with God than all of

  789. the understanding I could possibly do.

  790. Cuz it's not you, it's not your

  791. strength. It's not me or my strength.

  792. It's the power of God.

  793. So church, this morning as we turn

  794. towards the next while at the altar, an

  795. extended moment here at the altar, I

  796. want to just invite us. Maybe for you

  797. it's it's something that's a little

  798. different. Maybe it's like, I don't

  799. know, but I I heard what you're saying.

  800. This happened in the scripture over and

  801. over and over again in the New Testament

  802. church, and we're still living it today.

  803. So maybe the question is, are you

  804. willing to say yes? Are you willing to

  805. say, "I need more." Are you willing to

  806. say, "Lord, fill me one more time." Or

  807. maybe fill me for the first time.

  808. Cuz if you are, all you have to be, all

  809. you have to do is have given your life

  810. to Jesus. And if Jesus is the Lord of

  811. your life and you want to receive today,

  812. we believe that gift is for you because

  813. that's what his word would say.

  814. In fact, before we move on, if you're

  815. here and you say, you know what, I don't

  816. think I'm ready because I don't have a

  817. relationship with Jesus

  818. right now. Now, if the Lord would be

  819. speaking to you and we believe his

  820. spirit be knocking at your heart

  821. and if you say, "Wow, I need this

  822. Jesus." Maybe that wasn't your thought

  823. when you came in today, but he's turned

  824. something in your maybe you've been

  825. seeking and you say, "This is my moment.

  826. I need to give my life to Jesus."

  827. If that's you, then all of a sudden

  828. you'll be eligible. You can receive his

  829. spirit as well. You'll receive him at

  830. salvation. But then this other part in

  831. Acts chapter 2, if you say, "That's me.

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  832. I need Jesus. I'm going to just pray

  833. that your faith would arise right now.

  834. And in a moment, I'm just going to ask

  835. you to raise your hand up real high.

  836. It's the reason we are here as a church

  837. that one more would come to know Jesus.

  838. And Lord, I pray that even now you would

  839. give faith. If it's one in this room or

  840. one at home, Lord, that they wouldn't

  841. leave this room without saying yes to

  842. you. The ultimate, the perfector of our

  843. faith, you, Jesus. Would you do that

  844. right now in each one of our hearts? We

  845. love you right now. Now, if you need

  846. Jesus for the first time or rededicate

  847. your life, you've not been living for

  848. him and you say, "I need him cuz I want

  849. his spirit as well." Would you just

  850. raise your hand in this room? I just

  851. like to see your hand if that's you.

  852. It's the most important. I don't want to

  853. miss anybody. It's the number one reason

  854. that we're in the house. Anybody in the

  855. house, you say, "That's me." This is the

  856. number one thing. Maybe you're at home

  857. today and you say, "That's me." If so,

  858. all you have to do is ask him, "Lord,

  859. forgive me." In fact, if you say, "I

  860. need more information." Pastor Nate,

  861. he's standing right over here. And I

  862. would encourage you when we come to the

  863. altar, come talk to him. Maybe you need

  864. to give your life to him. Or maybe you

  865. just need more information. Or maybe you

  866. don't even like something and you're

  867. like, I don't know, but I I just feel I

  868. need to talk about it. He would love to

  869. talk with you. Coming to know Jesus is

  870. the number one thing that we are all

  871. about here. And then for everybody else,

  872. maybe that means everyone in the room,

  873. you're eligible to say yes, Holy Spirit.

  874. Fill me for the first time. Refill me.

  875. give me a new infilling that daily I can

  876. spend time praying in the spirit

  877. believing speaking directly to God and

  878. if all over this room right now could we

  879. just stand on our feet if you're able

  880. this morning can we position our hearts

  881. in a posture of Lord we receive from you

  882. we receive from you and if you say you

  883. know what I need to be filled with his

  884. spirit I'm going to ask a couple of

  885. things first if you say first time I

  886. need to receive or maybe you need to be

  887. refilled or you want someone to pray

  888. with you here in a moment I'm going

  889. going to ask you just to come to the

  890. altars, put your toes right at the front

  891. of the altar. That way, we know we're

  892. praying for the Holy Spirit. Our prayer

  893. team will then join you and pray with

  894. you. Or maybe today you say, "I just

  895. need to be refilled. I need more of

  896. him." Or you say, "I I'm I'm filled, but

  897. I need extra dose of his spirit today."

  898. I'm going to ask that we would just join

  899. and we would come to these altars. Could

  900. we fill the altars and say, "Lord, we

  901. need more of you." That this room would

  902. be a place of asking, "Holy Spirit, do

  903. something fresh in me. Holy Spirit, give

  904. me more boldness and power and strength.

  905. Holy Spirit, maybe like those disciples

  906. before Acts chapter 2:4. That's how I

  907. feel. But I want to be after Acts

  908. chapter 2:4. I want to be like Peter and

  909. the New Testament Christians with

  910. boldness and faith and power. Let's let

  911. the spirit of God well up within us.

  912. Move us to overflowing. In fact, right

  913. now, could we just, if you're able,

  914. could we lift our hands to the Lord? Can

  915. we begin to ask him, Lord, would you

  916. fill us with your spirit? Holy Spirit,

  917. would you make us whole? Holy Spirit,

  918. would you do something new in us?

  919. Empower your church. Lord, as the New

  920. Testament would speak, as your word

  921. would speak today, we position ourselves

  922. just to receive what you want to give

  923. us. Whether for the first time to be

  924. refilled or just to have more a dose of
