  1. Welcome to the Kingdom Family Podcast where we

  2. rediscover our identity as sons and daughters

  3. of Yahweh and learn to live the life of the Kingdom.

  4. Let's jump in to today's episode. Alright guys,

  5. we are back on our Rethinking the End Time series.

  6. This week we're going to be talking about one

  7. of the big ones called the rapture. That's what

  8. we're going to be talking about this week is

  9. the topic of the rapture. I wanted to help you

  10. understand what the rapture actually means. Understanding

  11. some key scriptures that is used to teach it

  12. that kind of thing and kind of help bring some

  13. clarity to this topic. Again through this whole

  14. process it's not important to me that you agree

  15. with me. If at the end of this you still believe

  16. in a rapture, that is completely fine My aim

  17. here is to help you get get some critical thinking

  18. As I said before what I like one of the comments

  19. and statements I like from Damon Thompson. Don't

  20. check your brain at the door Think things through

  21. Ask questions. It's okay. Ask the Holy Spirit

  22. questions Listen, I'm gonna say something really

  23. probably, maybe it comes off controversial, maybe

  24. it comes off offensive, whatever. But if you're

  25. not allowed to ask questions where you're at,

  26. if you're not allowed to question your pastor

  27. or question belief systems or whatever, that's

  28. a concern. You should be able to ask questions

  29. and you should be able to arrive to your own

  30. conclusions without fear of anything else. Holy

  31. Spirit, God gave you a brain for a reason. I

  32. do not think different beliefs is always a bad

  33. thing. If we all believe the same thing and agree

  34. it on every topic, life would be boring. My thing,

  35. as long as we believe that Christ is the center,

  36. it's because of Jesus, it's through Christ, it's

  37. by his blood, this kind of thing, as long as

  38. we can agree on these things, I think as far

  39. as talking about the end times and referring

  40. to the Holy Spirit as she even, I believe that

  41. that's up for discussion. I think that's up for

  42. debate. I think that's not that I want to sit

  43. around and argue with a bunch of people, but

  44. I like talking about and hearing people's perspective.

  45. Regardless or not if I believe their perspective,

  46. that's not important. I like to hear other people's

  47. perspective and then I can understand how they

  48. arrived. To the place that they have I hope that

  49. makes sense So that's what this really this whole

  50. thing is about is just rethinking the end times

  51. given some different perspectives different clarity

  52. to things And like I said in the day if you still

  53. believe in the rapture that that's perfectly

  54. fine. That's no no hard feelings whatsoever But

  55. I'm hoping you can hear my point of view And

  56. we'll just take it from there So I want you to

  57. think about Really if you have a pause this pause

  58. it, but I want you to think about when you hear

  59. the word rapture What comes to your mind? What

  60. emotions floods you a Lot of people are probably

  61. going to say like people disappearing clothes

  62. left behind chaos planes falling airplanes crashing

  63. All kinds of accidents on the freeway The fear

  64. of being left behind. If you grew up in my generation,

  65. we had the left behind movies and different things

  66. of that nature. So left being left behind was

  67. sometimes a fear. If you're a kid and you come

  68. home and there's no parent there, did I miss

  69. the rapture? Like, did I miss something? And

  70. again, this is not about attacking beliefs. It's

  71. just about understanding scripture carefully.

  72. That's it. So I want you to think about what

  73. does the word rapture actually mean? So the English

  74. word rapture comes from Latin, and it's rapturo,

  75. and I may not be saying this right. It's R -A

  76. -P -T -U -R -O. And it means to cease, it means

  77. to carry away, and it means to gather. This Latin

  78. word was used to translate a Greek word in Scripture.

  79. And I'm gonna read to you 1st Thessalonians 4,

  80. chapter 4, verses 15 through 17. This is one

  81. of the main verses connected to the rapture doctrine.

  82. And again, I'm using the passion translation.

  83. It says this, this is the word of the Lord, we

  84. who are alive in him and remain until the Lord

  85. appears will by no means have an advantage over

  86. those who have already died for both will rise

  87. together. For the Lord himself will appear with

  88. the declaration of victory the shout of an archangel

  89. and the trumpet blast of God He will descend

  90. from the heavenly realm and command those who

  91. are dead in Christ to rise first Then we who

  92. are alive will join them transported together

  93. in clouds to have an encounter with the Lord

  94. in the air and We will be joined We will be forever

  95. joined with the Lord so That's that's the main

  96. point the main scriptures that the rapture idea

  97. comes from but I want to look at a couple things

  98. based off of that and For example in verse 17

  99. when it says then we who are alive will join

  100. them transported together That is the Greek word

  101. harpeso h a r p a z o and that means to seize,

  102. to snatch, or to take suddenly and forcefully

  103. which emphasizes a sudden action not a disappearance.

  104. So we're going to look at a few different scriptures

  105. of where that word particular is used just to

  106. help give some clarity and understanding. So

  107. it's used in one part is Acts chapter 8 verses

    Acts 8:39–40

  108. 39 through 40 and it says when they came up out

  109. of the water Philip was suddenly snatched up

  110. by the spirit of the Lord and instantly carried

  111. away to the city of Ashtad where he appeared

  112. preaching the gospel in that city. I want you

  113. to understand that Philip was not excuse me Philip

  114. was taken from one place and moved elsewhere

  115. not taken to heaven prematurely and he was not

  116. removed from the earth. It says when they came

  117. up out of the water Philip was suddenly snatched

  118. up by the spirit of the Lord and instantly carried

  119. away to the city of Ashtad where he reappeared

  120. preaching the gospel in that city. Another word

  121. this place has used is John chapter 10 verses

    John 10:12–13

  122. 12 through 13. It says, but the worker who serves

  123. only for wages is not a real shepherd, but because

  124. he has no heart for the sheep, he will run away

  125. and abandon them when he sees the wolf coming.

  126. And then the wolf mauls the sheep, drags them

  127. off, that's the word harpeso, and scatters them.

  128. This word here means to violently grab or seize

  129. And we have one more reference here in 2nd Corinthians

  130. chapter 12 verse 2 and it says someone I'm acquainted

  131. with who was in union with Christ was swept away

  132. 14 years ago in an ecstatic experience He was

  133. taken or a harpezzo into the third heaven, but

  134. I'm not sure if he was in his body or out of

  135. his body only God knows. This moment here speaks

  136. to sudden divine transport or seizure, but the

  137. key is in those three verses that we just read,

  138. Acts chapter 8, John chapter 10, and 2nd Corinthians

Acts 8 chapter mention John 10 chapter mention

  139. chapter 12, none of this looks like some sort

  140. of secret or invisible or a permanent removal

  141. of any type from the earth. The belief of the

  142. rapture depends on how this word is understood.

  143. If the word means sudden seizure or gathering,

  144. then the real question becomes, what are people

  145. being gathered to? Why are they being gathered?

  146. And what cultural imagery did Paul's audience

  147. recognize? Again, when you're reading these scriptures

  148. and trying to understand things, you have to

  149. think about that audience. What did it mean to

  150. them? Paul says that the believers will be caught

  151. up. Not secretly removed not vanished unnoticed

  152. but gathered to Christ I've got been tickled

  153. recently just with all the UFO things I've heard

  154. people talk about that that's going to be the

  155. way the rapture happens people people will say

  156. that The church was abducted by aliens that to

  157. me big stretch big stretch But that's the thought

  158. processes that I have heard from people Even

  159. regarding the end times and you know again I

  160. go back to I just heard a minister say this maybe

  161. it was today. I was listening to a video That

  162. was talking about all the stuff going on about

  163. how it's so close to the end We're in the final

  164. moments and what they're using to base that off

  165. of is how dark it is And I'm here to tell you

  166. if it's dark around just because the light inside

  167. of you has not been flipped on You're the answer

  168. from the darkness around you. Jesus is not coming

  169. back for a defeated church. And right now, I'm

  170. sorry to say, even if this rapture idea was true,

  171. the church is so divided, there's not a chance

  172. I believe he's coming back anytime soon. Because

  173. the church, the church is divided on every issue

  174. it seems like. We will eat our own in a heartbeat.

  175. It seems like the world has more unity and more

  176. love than the church does these are some real

  177. concerns for the body of Christ and some things

  178. that we as Christians as Christ like individuals

  179. need to seriously think about repent Metanoia

  180. and really take a second glance at some things

  181. Excuse me That's it. You know this path this

  182. past weekend. We they did some kind of rededication

  183. for America Because we do turn 250 years old

  184. as a nation, which is wonderful I love my country

  185. From what I've heard I've never been outside

  186. of America, but from what I've heard This is

  187. probably one of the greatest nations on earth

  188. Not saying we don't have our flaws Because we

  189. do but it's one of the greatest nations on on

  190. planet earth and I'm thankful to be an American

  191. But the big time I kept hearing was that we're

  192. a Christian nation and my question is Maybe we're

  193. a Christian nation, but are we very Christ like

  194. do we have a Christ like nature? These are questions

  195. guys. We got to ask we have to be willing to

  196. Ask the hard questions ask the tough questions

  197. and really think about some of this as we're

  198. moving on in life and trying to represent Christ,

  199. represent the kingdom. So, rabbit hole for that,

  200. but anyhow. Again, we're just asking some real

  201. questions. If it means sudden seizure or gathering,

  202. then there has to be some other questions being

  203. asked with that. Like, what are we being gathered

  204. to? Why are we being gathered? And what cultural

  205. imagery did Paul's audience recognize when he

  206. was writing? Because again Paul says that the

  207. believers will be caught up not secretly removed

  208. Going back to 1st Thessalonians 4 17 Then we

  209. who are alive will join them transported together

  210. in clouds to have an encounter with the Lord

  211. in the air Okay, so it's important to note that

  212. in the Roman world when a king visited a city

  213. Citizens would citizens would go out to meet

  214. him and escort him back into the city. It had

  215. nothing to do with leaving permanently. That

  216. cultural background becomes important when reading

  217. this because, again, the Greek word harpesdo

  218. doesn't mean disappearing to heaven. It means

  219. to seize or to snatch suddenly. It's used for

  220. wolves grabbing sheep. Philip being suddenly

  221. moved and Paul being caught up in a vision So

  222. before we build theology around the word we have

  223. to understand what the word actually means and

  224. then what it also does not mean so Looking at

  225. my notes here, I'm sorry making sure I'm on the

  226. right Okay So Paul Paul wrote this letter to

  227. believers worried about dead Christians It was

  228. not about missing a rapture because the rapture

  229. idea is very new we're going to get to that a

  230. little bit But the rapture idea is very new.

  231. So Paul was not writing this to about a rapture

  232. He was writing to this writing this to believers

  233. who were worried about dead Christians and their

  234. fear was Did those who died miss Christ return?

  235. so Paul is bring in a message of comfort if you

  236. will and he's saying the dead will rise first

  237. no one misses out and no one is forgotten notice

  238. the language here talks about the trumpet of

  239. god the voice of the archangel shout none of

  240. that sounds secretive or like just a sudden vanishing

  241. it sounds loud it sounds public and it sounds

  242. visible nothing about these passages that i've

  243. read sounds quiet or hidden So meeting the Lord

  244. in the air. Let's let's break that down a little

  245. bit Meeting a king outside a city and escorting

  246. him back in this was known as a cultural practice

  247. The citizens would literally go out they would

  248. meet the king and return with him not leave forever

  249. and nothing and They would escort him home So

  250. the meeting is not about escaping earth. It's

  251. about welcoming the king. It's very important

  252. to think about You say well Chris you don't believe

  253. in the rapture so you don't believe that Christ

  254. is coming back and that's not true I Do believe

  255. that Christ will return I do not believe we're

  256. anywhere close to that Just because I don't believe

  257. in a rapture does not mean I don't believe that

  258. Christ is going to return But I believe that

  259. to me and this is what I have Felt Holy Spirit

  260. speak to me said I can only speak on what I have

  261. What I believe has been revealed to me I do believe

  262. Christ comes back and I believe that looks like

  263. when we are lighting it up so well that he has

  264. no choice but to show back up because we're doing

  265. our job we're advancing the kingdom of heaven

  266. we're advancing the gospel the good news we are

  267. we are lighting it up and pushing away darkness

  268. setting it up for our king our father to come

  269. back all right so let's um Oh, I'm sorry. Let

  270. me backtrack just a little bit, because I wanted

  271. to break down one of his words. The word for

  272. an encounter is the word ampetesis. A -P -A -N

  273. -T -E -S -I -S. And it's a meaning specifically

  274. going out to meet someone and escorting them

  275. back, not just a casual meeting. That's that

  276. word I was referring to. So when it says an encounter,

  277. that's that word. It's literally caught up for

  278. meeting with the Lord, not a rapture. It's not

  279. a rapture idea. All right, so let's look at another

  280. scripture. This is gonna be Matthew chapter 24.

    Matthew 24 chapter mention

  281. This is another one that's commonly used to support

  282. rapture ideas. And it says, concerning that day

  283. and exact hour, no one knows when it will arrive.

  284. Not even the angels of heaven, only the Father

  285. knows. For it will be like it was in the days

  286. of Noah when the Son of Man appears. Before the

  287. flood, people lived their lives eating, drinking,

  288. marrying, and having children. They didn't realize

  289. the end was near until Noah entered the ark and

  290. then suddenly the flood came and took them all

  291. away in judgment. It will happen the same way

  292. when the Son of Man appears. At that time, two

  293. men will be working on the farm. One will be

  294. taken in judgment and the other left. Two women

  295. will be grinding grain. One will be taken away

  296. in judgment and the other left. So again, context

  297. is going to matter here, but I want you to think

  298. about something. If you remember the story of

  299. Noah There's a part where Jesus or excuse me.

  300. There's a part where God promises not to flood

  301. the earth again not to destroy The earth with

  302. water But the way I have been taught that how

  303. the end comes is basically the world has just

  304. set on fire and set ablaze Here is my concern

  305. with that and again before Old me would have

  306. just took that in and be like, yep, that sounds

  307. right. But the more I am a dad and the more I

  308. allow Holy Spirit to adjust my lens and see things

  309. differently, I have a problem with that. And

  310. here's my problem. It's almost as like God is

  311. crossing his fingers when he's telling Noah,

  312. you know, I'll never destroy the world again

  313. with water. And he's probably thinking to himself,

  314. one of these days I will destroy it again with

  315. fire. Does that not sound like a problem to you?

  316. Does this not sound concerning to you? Is that

  317. how you would do your children? No, I'll never

  318. destroy with water again. But with fire, I never

  319. said anything about fire, so I will destroy it

  320. again, just not with water. We're gonna do it

  321. with fire next time, because the water just didn't

  322. seem to be good enough. Just observation, something

  323. to question. So... And here's some things in

  324. the story is Jesus compares this to the days

  325. of Noah. So I want you to ask yourself who was

  326. taken away in Noah's day? Think about it. Who

  327. was removed in Noah's day? It was the wicked

  328. taken by the flood. Who was it that remained?

  329. It was Noah and his family the righteous. Noah

  330. is the one who stayed. In Noah's story, being

  331. taken away was judgment, not rescue. And you

  332. can see that in other, Matthew chapter 24 verse

    Matthew 24:40

  333. 40. At the time, two men working in the farm,

  334. one will be taken away in judgment, the other

  335. left. Which one is left, my friend? Two women

  336. will be grinding grain, one will be taken away

  337. in judgment, and the other left. Again, ask yourself,

  338. who was leaving? Who is saying? I don't have

  339. time. I got some different viewpoints when it

  340. talks about two men, two women. I got some different

  341. viewpoints on that that I'm not getting into

  342. here right now. But it's just important for you

  343. to notate what scripture is clearly saying. This

  344. is Jesus speaking. Who is the one being left

  345. behind? And who is the one in judgment? Just

  346. again, don't check your brain at the door. Think

  347. about this. So now we have context matters a

  348. lot here because Matthew 24 is largely about

  349. the fall of Jerusalem, the collapse of the temple

  350. system, the end of a covenantial age, and judgment

  351. on corrupt leaderships and violent structures.

  352. That's really important for you to understand.

  353. Jesus had just said in verse 38, and now it is

  354. too late since your city will be left in ruins.

  355. So what was swept away? Not humanity itself,

  356. but a corrupt religious system, violent leadership,

  357. and structures that resisted life. So again,

  358. it's important to ask these questions. So is

  359. judgment against people or against what destroys

  360. people? Across scripture, divine judgment consistently

  361. targets things like injustice, violence, oppression,

  362. corruption, false structures, destructive identities.

  363. The goal with judgment in the eyes of Abba is

  364. always restoration. It's never annihilation.

  365. It is constantly restoration. Hebrews 12 29.

  366. It says, for our God is a holy devouring fire.

  367. The Aramaic can be translated into consuming

  368. light. And remember, while fire does consume,

  369. it also purifies. So yes, he's a consuming fire,

  370. but his fire is that to purify and to be restorative,

  371. not to destroy. Not to destroy you anyhow. There

  372. are things that he's destroying in the fire But

  373. in my opinion what is being destroyed in the

  374. fire is those things that are still attached

  375. to you from that old Adamic mindset that he has

  376. crucified effectively on the cross All right

  377. So now let's go back to Matthew chapter 24 verse

    Matthew 24:39

  378. 39 They didn't realize then was near until Noah

  379. entered the ark and then suddenly the flood came

  380. and took off took them all away in judgment it

  381. will appear the same way when the son of man

  382. appears okay so um appear or coming is the word

  383. parousia and i'm going to again i'll spell that

  384. p a r o u s i a and its basic meaning is presence

  385. arrival official visitation at its core it means

  386. being present with or arrival into presence not

  387. just appearing, but arrival in order to be present.

  388. All right, so I want you to think about that

  389. word that I just spelled out for you, and I want

  390. you to understand what that meant in the ancient

  391. world, okay? This word was used for a visit of

  392. a king or emperor, so when a ruler came, it was

  393. called periusia. Citizens prepared the city,

  394. Roads were cleaned. Decorations were made. Officials

  395. went out to greet the king. The king never destroyed

  396. the city. He came to visit it. So that's... I'm

  397. going to talk about Jesus appearing. It's the

  398. same word there of what I just read to you. That's

  399. what happens. So this matters because Jesus's

  400. audience would have known this usage. They would

  401. have understood this term. And there's much more

  402. you can get into with studying this word that

  403. I'm not taking time to dive into that. Again,

  404. I'm not here to be your answer and source for

  405. all of it. I want you to go and study this if

  406. you would like to learn more about it. All right,

  407. so let's talk about where did the modern rapture

  408. idea come from. So the modern rapture timeline

  409. became popular in the 1800s. Now, there are some

  410. that you can find reference to the word rapture.

  411. I believe it's in the late 1600s. But from what

  412. I have read and studied, that is not the same

  413. definition of how we define rapture. How we define

  414. rapture does not show up until the 1800s. And

  415. it comes through John Nelson Darby, a Bible teacher

  416. who developed dispensational theology. In case

  417. you don't know what that is, that is that this

  418. is a way some Christians read the Bible. where

  419. they believe history is divided into different

  420. time periods, and God deals with people differently

  421. in each one. So it's spread through, and some

  422. of you may know this term, it's the Scofield

  423. Reference Bible, which influenced many, many

  424. churches. That's where this thing began to come

  425. out and pick up traction. So this particular

  426. part, was enough for me when I first looked at

  427. this to make me start asking some real questions

  428. uh because I did understand or discovered that

  429. the rapture was very new it's only like 200 years

  430. old and if it's in the 1800s we're in 2026 do

  431. the math that's only about 200 years old that's

  432. a very very very new concept of our understanding

  433. of rapture the early church fathers would not

  434. have believed this um so it's just interesting

  435. As far as that's concerned Here's just some ideas

  436. to think about if you ever seen the end time

  437. movies where people suddenly disappear and planes

  438. crash because the pilot vanished that whole idea

  439. came from the dispensational theology That's

  440. just what that is that God has Different time

  441. periods Future Rapture then Jesus rules on earth

  442. for a thousand years. That's where a lot of this

  443. stuff came out. But again, this way of understanding

  444. the Bible is not ancient. This is not what early

  445. church fathers believed. So dispensational theology

  446. isn't the only way to read scripture. Understand

  447. that. Go study some of this stuff out for yourself.

  448. It's definitely, it sure is one. system that

  449. people use to understand prophecy, in my personal

  450. opinion, it is not the correct way to do that.

  451. But again, that's just me. You do you. You go

  452. figure out what makes sense to you. And again,

  453. if you want to believe in a rapture, that's certainly

  454. fine. But before the 1800s, Christians believed

  455. in Christ's returning. They believed in resurrection,

  456. judgment, renewal, but just not... secret disappearance

  457. events, not us being raptured out and clothes

  458. being left behind, that kind of thing. Before

  459. the 1800s, Christians did not believe in a rapture

  460. like you see in the movies today and like you

  461. hear about in churches today. They did believe

  462. Jesus would return, but they did not teach that

  463. believers would disappear first or escape the

  464. world. Trying to see if I want to address any

  465. other notes that I have here. Christians have

  466. also believed Jesus would return, but they didn't

  467. believe it would be secret or hidden. They believed

  468. it would be obvious in public. Acts 1 -11 is

  469. an example of that. This same Jesus will come

  470. in the same way you saw him go. They expected

  471. a visible return, not people suddenly vanishing.

  472. Next week we're going to dive into the tribulation

  473. stuff. We're going to dive into that some so

  474. I'm not going to touch on that at the moment.

  475. Just understand that for over 1700 years the

  476. church did not teach a rapture idea. This is

  477. very new. I'm hoping some of this language kind

  478. of helps you understand that there's more to

  479. this than a rapture because it's getting dark

  480. and we need to get out of here so the world can

  481. go to hell in a handbasket. That's kind of how

  482. I have felt when it comes to how people look

  483. at the rapture coming to heaven with me and to

  484. hell with the rest of y 'all because if we really

  485. believed in in this rapture idea we would be

  486. out ministering and loving people just quit our

  487. jobs because it's about time to get out of here

  488. so i don't buy into it if i'm wrong i'm still

  489. going because i know what the prerequisites are

  490. so that's not a concern for me but My concern

  491. is if people are so ready to get out of here,

  492. then they're not going to be prepared to stay

  493. here. And we need some sons and daughters to

  494. be ready to stay here and release the kingdom

  495. upon the earth, to get involved with politics,

  496. to get involved with the school systems, to get

  497. involved with just our world in general and go

  498. find your place in it wherever God is calling

  499. you to be and you go jump into that avenue and

  500. release hope release life speak life declare

  501. declare life over situations be the light of

  502. the world that is within you let that light out

  503. let that hope out let that glory out um yeah

  504. that's kind of where we're at So again, I'm hoping

  505. I was just giving this on my notes to make sure

  506. I was done. I hope this helps you. I hope this

  507. helps you understand that the rapture is a very

  508. new concept. Early Church Fathers would not have

  509. believed in it. There is meanings for these words

  510. that Paul was using, especially in First Thessalonians

  511. and then some other places that we read. These

  512. words have context and it's important. Context

  513. matters. Don't check your brain at the door.

  514. Go and... dig into some research, go study it

  515. for yourself. That's my challenge to you. That's

  516. my encouragement for you is to go and study yourself.

  517. I hope this helps you, my friend. Next week we'll

  518. jump into the tribulation. Until then, be blessed.
