  1. Well, I don't know about you, but I've

  2. come here to preach a lick or to this

  3. morning.

  4. Bless the Lord. If you have your Bibles,

  5. I'm going to be reading from the book of

  6. Leviticus,

    Leviticus 9 chapter mention

  7. chapter 9, and also chapter 6.

  8. I'm going to read also from the book of

  9. second Timothy chapter 1

    2 Timothy 1 chapter mention

  10. and the book of Acts chapter 1.

    Acts 1 chapter mention

  11. If you'll look with me over here, I'm

  12. going to start with second Timothy

  13. chapter number one. Paul writing to his

  14. young son in the Lord.

  15. He says to him, "When I call to

  16. remembrance

  17. the unfeign

  18. faith that is in thee,

  19. which dwelt first, notice, first

  20. in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother

  21. Ununice.

  22. And I am persuaded that in thee also

  23. there's another legacy. It's just coming

  24. down."

  25. He says, "Wherefore I put thee in

  26. remembrance that thou stir up the gift

  27. of God

  28. which is in thee by the putting on of my

  29. hands.

  30. For God hath not given us the spirit of

  31. fear,

  32. but of power and of love and of a sound

  33. mind."

  34. Notice God didn't give us the spirit of

  35. fear. Amen.

  36. >> I look in the book of Acts

  37. and verse number one and verse number

  38. eight is one that all of us could

  39. probably quote by heart. We know it.

  40. But I love it because it's right before

  41. Jesus is right as Jesus is being

  42. ascended back to the father. He says,

  43. "But you shall receive power after that

  44. the Holy Ghost has come upon you.

  45. Ye shall be witnesses unto me both in

  46. Jerusalem and in all Judea and in

  47. Samaria and unto the uttermost part of

  48. the earth."

  49. Look with me in the book of Leviticus if

  50. you would.

  51. Book of Leviticus.

  52. Look with me first at chapter number

  53. nine.

  54. I want to start reading at verse number

  55. 22.

  56. The scripture says, "And Aaron lifted up

  57. his hand toward the people and blessed

  58. them and came down from offering of the

  59. sin offering

  60. and the burnt offering and peace

  61. offerings.

  62. And Moses and Aaron went into the

  63. tabernacle of the congregation

  64. and came out and blessed the people.

  65. And the glory of the Lord appeared unto

  66. all the people.

  67. And there came a fire out from the Lord.

  68. A fire come out from the Lord and

  69. consumed upon the altar the burnt

  70. offering and the fat.

  71. When all the people saw, they shouted

  72. and they fell on their faces.

  73. Notice with me Leviticus chapter 6

    Leviticus 6 chapter mention

  74. verse number 12.

  75. And the fire upon the altar shall be

  76. burning in it. It shall not be put out.

  77. Don't let your fire be put out. Come on,

  78. somebody. Hallelujah.

  79. And the priest shall burn wood on it

  80. every morning and lay the burnt offering

  81. in order upon it.

  82. Lay the burn or offering in order upon

  83. it. And he shall burn thereon the fat of

  84. the peace offerings.

  85. The fire shall ever be burning upon the

  86. altar, and it shall never go out.

  87. Praise the Lord. Would you one more time

  88. just ask God for his anointing? Father,

  89. we love you this morning. We thank you.

  90. And I pray God by the fire of that

  91. anointing,

  92. I humble myself, Lord, before you and

  93. before this company of people.

  94. Lord, as unworthy as I am, Father, I yet

  95. speak to you and humbly remind you, God,

  96. that I can do nothing without you. And

  97. Lord, I need the anointing this morning.

  98. And I thank you for what you have

  99. already done in this place. I thank you,

  100. Lord, for those that you have healed,

  101. those that you've touched and

  102. encouraged. But father,

  103. I am asking you this morning that in the

  104. name of Jesus that you will anoint me to

  105. preach

  106. that your body may be edified

  107. and God that we would draw closer to you

  108. that Jesus would be glorified.

  109. Ask it all in Jesus name and everybody

  110. says amen and amen. Praise the Lord. You

  111. may be seated.

  112. Hallelujah to God. If I could possibly

  113. title the message this morning,

  114. I want to title the message lessons

  115. from a burn barrel.

  116. Lessons from a burn barrel. Well, first

  117. of all, let me begin by saying what we

  118. often see in the Old Testament

  119. is revealed in the New Testament because

  120. it has been said that the Old Testament

  121. is the New Testament concealed and the

  122. New Testament is the Old Testament

  123. revealed.

  124. Now, let me tell you about the birthing

  125. of this message.

  126. This message was birthed into my spirit

  127. when one day a man in our church who

  128. owns a honeybee business and he had a

  129. lot of junk on his property that needed

  130. to be burned.

  131. He asked me to come help him. In fact,

  132. he hired me to help him out. And all he

  133. wanted was the the trash and the debris

  134. around that place to be burned. And he

  135. began to bring it. And I mean, we we had

  136. he he literally took a forklift and pull

  137. trees and saplings up out of the ground

  138. and brought it over. And I had a

  139. chainsaw and loppers and we had old bee

  140. boxes. And you just name it, we had it.

  141. And we begin to burn it. And I began to

  142. burn. And he kept bringing stuff. And

  143. for about three or four hours straight,

  144. he he brought stuff up and I took stuff

  145. and I piled it into those burned barrels

  146. and it just kept burning. Just kept

  147. burning. Just kept burning. And finally,

  148. we just we burned for about three or

  149. four hours. And I think he just finally

  150. got tired and said, "I think we'll stop

  151. there for the day." And I think we just

  152. about got everything done. But

  153. nevertheless, the next day whenever we

  154. come back, I we was we parked. He he had

  155. an old side by side and I got on the

  156. side by side with him and I rode down to

  157. the and I rode with him back to the back

  158. part of the of the property where the

  159. two burn barrels were. Now whenever he I

  160. went back there where those two burn

  161. barrels were, we rode past them. I

  162. looked at the burn barrels. There was no

  163. fire in the burn barrel. There was

  164. nothing that was there. It was just two

  165. barrels just stand just standing there

  166. on uh on some blocks. Uh he rolled on

  167. past it. Now if you know brother Earl,

  168. you would know that he likes to talk. Uh

  169. and so he pulled up a little bit little

  170. play pace uh uh but on the other side of

  171. the burn barrels and he stopped uh and

  172. he started pointing his fingers to this

  173. and to that on the property and just

  174. beginning to talk and and I'm sitting

  175. there on that side by side with him

  176. listening to him and I turned around and

  177. I looked behind me and I just looked at

  178. the burn barrel and I thought I saw just

  179. a little wisp of smoke could begin to

  180. come up out of that barrel. Well, while

  181. he was still talking, I just got off of

  182. the burn barrel and I began to walk over

  183. there to where it was at and I walked

  184. over to that burn barrel and I looked

  185. inside and there was a little bit of

  186. smoke. Uh, I reached my hand down there

  187. and I could feel a little bit of heat.

  188. And so I took and I reached over and

  189. there was a piece of cloth or something

  190. on the ground. I just took and I just

  191. dropped it in there and I walked away.

  192. Then about that time I turned around and

  193. looked and that thing had caught back up

  194. and it began to burn into flame. The

  195. other burn barrel I picked up a stick

  196. and I reached in there and I began to

  197. stir and begin to poke around in it.

  198. And those red embers begin to glow and

  199. smoke begin to come up. And I begin to

  200. look at that and and I begin to think

  201. about and I begin to look at that and I

  202. throw stuff in it and the fire will

  203. begin to burn one more time in that

  204. place. Uh now as I begin to look at

  205. that, I begin to realize uh it's

  206. something begin to begin to uh just

  207. begin to resonate in my spirit.

  208. As I begin to think about where Paul

  209. said to the apostle uh to Timothy rather

  210. that listen here, don't stir up the gift

  211. of God. Don't get discouraged. Don't

  212. quit. Uh you I'm reminding you of the

  213. faith uh that was in your in your in

  214. your grandmother and in your mother. I'm

  215. reminding you of what they had and what

  216. has been passed down to you through the

  217. years and what you have received by the

  218. laying on of hands. I I'm reminding you

  219. that you need to stir up the gift of

  220. God. In other words, to fan this back

  221. into flame. And so when I begin to look

  222. at that and begin to look in the

  223. scriptures, I find here in the book of

  224. Leviticus chapter number six, uh that

  225. we're told that the fire that was

  226. burning on the altar was to never go

  227. out. Uh the priest was to lay wood on

  228. it. Uh will lay wood on it every morning

  229. and feed it. Uh and if you want to look

  230. into history, you will find that for

  231. eight centuries uh hungry priests uh

  232. would lay that wood and they kept that

  233. fire burning for eight centuries. Uh it

  234. just kept on burning. Uh it was the

  235. hunger of the priest. It was the hunger

  236. of the worshippers. Uh, can I tell you

  237. this morning, Milligan, if you want your

  238. fire to keep on burning, uh, you got to

  239. stay hungry and you got to keep on

  240. worshiping and you got to keep on

  241. praising. Uh, I just come to tell you

  242. today that the fire of God still burns.

  243. Uh, I want you to remember this. Uh,

  244. life must be fed in order to live and to

  245. grow. When that baby is born, uh before

  246. he's born, guess what? Uh he's just

  247. eating what his mama feeds him. Uh it

  248. may be turnup greens. It may be

  249. cornbread. Uh it may be pork chops. It

  250. may be butter beans. It may be biscuit

  251. and gravy. Come on, can somebody say

  252. amen? It may be deer steak and gravy. It

  253. just may be gravy on gravy. But

  254. whatever, he's happy to get it. But once

  255. uh after a while something happens to

  256. that baby uh and uh and that and and and

  257. he begins to get pushed out. He says,

  258. "Wait a minute. I'm happy here. That

  259. mama's womb says, "No, sir. You've

  260. kicked me your last time. You're going

  261. out." Come on. Can you say amen? Uh but

  262. when he goes out, uh and when he goes

  263. out, guess what? Uh all of a sudden

  264. something hits him. All of a sudden that

  265. that lifeline that has been attached to

  266. him called the umbilical cord. They cut

  267. it and something happens in his brain

  268. and he goes, "What's this?" And he

  269. breathes fresh air for the first time.

  270. All of a sudden there's an instinct

  271. instinct that kicks in and he says, "I

  272. want something to eat and he learns how

  273. to suck." It's just instinct. What is he

  274. doing? He's on survival mode. I said,

  275. and I want to tell you something. If you

  276. want to live in the presence and in the

  277. power of God, you got to stay hungry,

  278. you got to keep on letting uh yourself

  279. be fed from the word of God and from the

  280. spirit of God. Can you say amen? When I

  281. look at this here, when I looked at this

  282. one thing here in this altar here, I

  283. look at the fire's origin. Uh in

  284. Leviticus chapter 9, the Bible says that

    Leviticus 9 chapter mention

  285. the origination of that fire came down

  286. from heaven. Uh it was a supernatural

  287. fire. The fire came from the holy of

  288. holies. Uh actually came from heaven

  289. down through the holy of holies. uh

  290. actually from the ark of the covenant.

  291. It passed through the veil as well as

  292. the hanging curtain uh at the front and

  293. it went through it without burning it.

  294. Uh this was a visible manifestation of

  295. God upon the sacrifice. Uh the glory of

  296. God appeared unto the people. uh in

  297. Hebrews 1:es 1 and two we find that the

  298. Bible said that God spoke uh at sunundry

  299. times uh meaning at different at

  300. different intervals in history God would

  301. speak uh and I want to tell you that God

  302. is speaking today he's speaking in ways

  303. to his people he's trying to get people

  304. to wake up and to realize uh that

  305. there's an event that's about to take

  306. place That's going to be something uh

  307. that you and I, it's called the hope of

  308. the glory. It's all called the hope of

  309. the church. Uh it's called the rapture.

  310. Come on. Uh but in the meantime, he's

  311. talking to somebody. And did you listen

  312. to that pastor this morning, brother

  313. Jesse? He began to talk about what God

  314. has been speaking to him. He said he

  315. didn't have time to tell it all. I want

  316. to sit around and listen to him when

  317. he's got time to tell it all. Can you

  318. say amen?

  319. Hallelujah to God. So, what did I learn

  320. from a burn barrel? Think about it. What

  321. did I learn from that? In fact, uh I

  322. took a burn barrel and put it on the

  323. platform of my church. Uh and I took a

  324. big long stick, used it for a poker, and

  325. I preached this message. Uh but anyway,

  326. this is what I learned from the burn

  327. barrel. First of all, I learned that

  328. from that burn barrel, this right here,

  329. that smoke uh is a sign there. You know,

  330. that the smoke was telling me that

  331. there's something in that barrel that I

  332. haven't seen yet. Uh that smoke, it was

  333. telling me uh that there's something

  334. over there. How many of you ever been

  335. driving down the road uh and there's a

  336. fire way over here and you look and you

  337. the first thing you see is smoke. Uh

  338. when you see the smoke, you have to say,

  339. "Well, there's got to be a fire over

  340. there or used to be a fire over there,

  341. but there's some smoke over there.

  342. There's something." But I want you to

  343. understand something. I'm not living for

  344. the smoke. There's an old Pentecostal

  345. saying that says if you've been born in

  346. the fire, the smoke will not do. Uh,

  347. hallelujah. Smoke uh normally has no use

  348. uh in it. Uh the only kind of smoke that

  349. I really have any use for is the kind

  350. that I put in my smoker and I smoke a

  351. smoke smoke some ribs or Boston butt or

  352. some chicken. Can you say amen? But

  353. other than that, uh I don't really have

  354. I really am not that excited about

  355. smoke. Uh but at least whenever I saw

  356. the smoke coming out of that barrel that

  357. was over there, I said, "There's got to

  358. be some heat in that thing." Uh there's

  359. got to be some fire in that thing. Uh

  360. some of you this morning, uh you a

  361. little bit smoky. Uh you ain't been able

  362. to worship like you want to, but yet

  363. you're trying to get there. You know

  364. why? Because uh there's a little bit of

  365. ash uh or a little bit of fire, some

  366. coals that's down there. There's

  367. something in you that's desiring to come

  368. out and to break loose. Uh I want to

  369. tell you something. You need to let go

  370. and let the Holy Ghost break through and

  371. quit worrying about what somebody's

  372. going to think, BUT LET GOD BE GOD. COME

  373. ON, SOMEBODY. Can you say amen? Praise

  374. the Lord. It may be weak. It may be

  375. weak, but the fire is here. It may be a

  376. little bit. It may be just a little

  377. puffy, but it's still there. I want you

  378. to understand that smoke reminded me of

  379. a memory. You know what the memory I had

  380. was? I remembered the day before when

  381. you couldn't get too close to it or

  382. you'd get burned because uh of the

  383. flames that was coming out from the top

  384. of that barrel. uh all of a sudden I

  385. begin to take this uh and transpose it

  386. over to today. We in our Pentecostal

  387. churches uh and so many places uh all we

  388. have uh is the faded memory when people

  389. used to shout uh when people used to

  390. sing uh when people used to come to

  391. church uh and they got excited about God

  392. uh and they got excited about being holy

  393. and righteous before God. They got

  394. excited about the Pentecostal power, but

  395. now then they've reduced theirel up and

  396. down uh to nothing but a prayer and a

  397. poem. But my friend, I want to tell you

  398. something. There still it may be a

  399. memory, but I want to tell you

  400. something. It's reality today. Uh it's a

  401. reality. Uh it's still real. Uh we still

  402. shout. Uh there's still something around

  403. us that WE CAN SHOUT ABOUT. I'M GOING TO

  404. TELL YOU THE MEMORY CAN STILL BE

  405. REALITY.

  406. >> Hallelujah to God. Blessed be the name

  407. of the Lord. Well, I begin to think

  408. about that. You know, I I just can I

  409. just slow down just a minute? I want to

  410. tell you something.

  411. Sometimes we just remember stuff.

  412. >> We remember how we used to shake. So, we

  413. go

  414. Some people let the memory they just

  415. want to wash it away and if it comes

  416. faded and they wonder was it ever really

  417. real. I want to tell you something. It's

  418. real. It's real. It changed my life. I

  419. want to tell you it gave me something

  420. that the world couldn't give. It changed

  421. me. It made a difference in me. It's

  422. still real. I STILL HUNGER FOR IT. I

  423. STILL long for it. I STILL BREATHE FOR

  424. IT. I STILL CRY FOR IT. I STILL PRAY FOR

  425. MOVE OF GOD.

  426. Hallelujah to God.

  427. Well, the next thing I learned about

  428. that burn barrel, I looked over there

  429. and I began to and I had this stick,

  430. this real long pine stick that had been

  431. that was just about that long or

  432. whatever. And I and I and I used it as a

  433. poker. How many How many has ever been

  434. poked before?

  435. >> Well, I I took that stick over there. I

  436. pulled down into that down beyond that

  437. ash and everything and I began to stir

  438. it and below that ash there was live red

  439. coals of fire. They just needed to be

  440. stirred. Uh Paul said to Timothy stir up

  441. the gift of God. Uh when you look at

  442. that he is saying fan the gift of God

  443. back into flame. Uh Timothy, just don't

  444. sit there uh and say, "I got it. I got

  445. it." Uh but Timothy, stir it up. Uh get

  446. stirred up. How many of you How many of

  447. you realize we need to get stirred up? I

  448. look at this nation today. Uh I look at

  449. people protesting. Uh I look at people

  450. out there rioting. Uh they're stirred up

  451. by something. They're stirred up by the

  452. devil. Uh we need to get stirred up by

  453. God. uh and proclaim to this world that

  454. Jesus Christ is still king of kings.

  455. He's still lord of lords. Uh he's still

  456. the hope of this world. That Jesus

  457. Christ is still coming. He still saves.

  458. Uh he still baptizes in the Holy Ghost.

  459. Uh he's still a healer. He's still a

  460. deliverer. Come on, can you say amen? uh

  461. he's still the one that'll put a dance

  462. in yourself and cause you to rejoice uh

  463. when there's nothing else to rejoice

  464. about. YOU CAN SAY, "I PRAISE GOD

  465. BECAUSE I KNOW IN WHOM I HAVE BELIEVED."

  466. COME ON. UH you need to POKE SOMEBODY.

  467. YOU NEED TO LET THE HOLY GHOST POKE YOU

  468. INTO REALITY THAT I'M HERE BECAUSE GOD

  469. IS GOOD.

  470. HALLELUJAH.

  471. >> Praise God.

  472. >> And then I'm going to talk about this

  473. point twice. There's the ashes.

  474. >> I looked down there at the ashes. And

  475. when I first looked in there, I didn't

  476. see anything. All I saw was dull gray.

  477. All I saw was that. But I looked down

  478. there and it was just ashes. It had

  479. covered up the fire. Why had the fire

  480. died down? Leviticus 6:12 said, "It

    Leviticus 6:12

  481. shall not be put out. The priest shall

  482. put wood on it." It died down because I

  483. quit putting wood on it. Uh, it died

  484. down. And your fire's going to die down

  485. when you quit praising. Your fire's

  486. going to die down when you quit praying.

  487. Uh, your fire is going to die down when

  488. you quit reading the word of God. your

  489. fire is going to die down. Whenever you

  490. go whenever you back off of going to

  491. church. Uh can I just say this here

  492. parenthetically? Church is still a big

  493. deal in my life. It's still a big deal

  494. to us. Uh we still need the church. Uh

  495. we still need the fellowship. Uh one

  496. with another. I want to tell you

  497. something. That fire's going to die down

  498. whenever you pull away from God. I ain't

  499. through with the ashes yet. You got to

  500. feed that fire to keep it going.

  501. Sometimes you got to stir it. And the

  502. Bible tells us to provoke one another in

  503. love.

  504. >> How many you've ever been provoked?

  505. Sir, your wife tells you she's going to

  506. go on a diet and she's going to lose 10

  507. pounds. And then you look over there at

  508. her and she's eating chocolate cake. You

  509. need to provoke her and say, "I thought

  510. you said you was going on a date.

  511. That's dangerous territory, but I ain't

  512. talking about my wife.

  513. We need to provoke one another.

  514. >> I heard a pastor talking one time. This

  515. is when I was a little boy. And people

  516. probably didn't think I paid attention

  517. in church, but I did hear some things

  518. back when I was just a little boy, seven

  519. or eight years old. But I remember him

  520. talking about said, "You need some

  521. goats.

  522. I'm going somewhere. Y'all bear y'all

  523. bear with me.

  524. He's You know, you know when you don't

  525. have fire, when the fire goes out, what

  526. happens? The temperature goes down.

  527. >> What happens when the sheep get cold?

  528. They all just bundle up together

  529. >> and they don't move and they don't do

  530. anything. But you know, he said, he

  531. said, "It takes that goat going out

  532. there and butting the sheep to get them

  533. to move in so they don't freeze to

  534. death." I want to tell you, sometimes uh

  535. there's got to be an old goat to come

  536. along to butt us.

  537. and to get us to moving. Get us to

  538. praying. Get us to worshiping. Get us to

  539. calling up on God. Get us to calling up

  540. on and asking for the old path and to

  541. say, "God, this old goat's getting under

  542. my skin." He says, "Why don't you just

  543. come on and GET CLOSER TO ME?" COME ON,

  544. SOMEBODY. Can somebody say amen?

  545. Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord. The

  546. fire of God today is still, let me tell

  547. you what I'm talking about. This Holy

  548. Ghost that you felt this morning, that's

  549. the same Holy Ghost that they felt in

  550. the upper room. Uh that's the same Holy

  551. Ghost uh that Jesus said whenever you

  552. will receive power after that the Holy

  553. Ghost has come upon you. How many of you

  554. know who the Holy Ghost is? How many of

  555. you have been touched by the Holy Ghost?

  556. Uh how many of you know that the Holy

  557. Ghost uh is still powerful? He's still

  558. on the Come on, somebody. Uh it's the

  559. same fire. God has always had a remnant.

  560. Uh now, when I look at this uh and I and

  561. I come to this place right here, I want

  562. you to know it's the same fire. It's the

  563. same move of God. Uh well, I I I as I

  564. begin to look at this and begin to

  565. realize, I know that there are people

  566. out there that's saying, "Well, that

  567. died that went away with the apostles.

  568. Uh that ended uh that ended way back in

  569. the first century. Uh we just go to

  570. church. Uh and we just sit here real

  571. quiet. Uh we'll let them hear. We'll

  572. we'll listen to a little poem. We'll

  573. listen to a little sermon. Uh, we'll get

  574. a little bit of inspiration. Uh, but

  575. don't take too long because the ball

  576. game's going to be coming on in a little

  577. bit. And I don't want to miss it. Uh, I

  578. got a family picnic, but who cares? Uh,

  579. when God begins to move, I don't care

  580. what's going on. I want to have a move

  581. of God. Uh, and so, uh, when I look at

  582. this, I realize, uh, God's always had a

  583. remnant. Uh, there has always been a

  584. move of God. Please bear with me. Uh Dr.

  585. Raymond Co Pepper, he uh he wrote a book

  586. on the Holy Spirit. I'm going to read

  587. you something out of that book. Uh

  588. because he asked the question, did the

  589. practice of tongues cease uh with the

  590. apostles? Uh what what what answer did

  591. the first century facts support? Acts 2

  592. records that the people saw and heard on

  593. the day of Pentecost, including the

  594. phenomenon of speaking in other tongues

  595. when they were filled with the Holy

  596. Ghost. Uh, Acts 8 tells the story of

  597. people who were baptized uh in the Holy

  598. Ghost at Samaria one year after the day

  599. of Pentecost. Uh about 8 years later

  600. after the day of Pentecost there was an

  601. outpouring of the Holy Ghost uh in the

  602. house of Cornelius uh who were the first

  603. gentile recipients. uh we find that some

  604. uh uh we we find that uh that as that

  605. begin to take place that Acts 19

  606. recounts another outpouring of the Holy

  607. Spirit where the recipient spoke with

  608. tongues and prophesied and that took

  609. place about 20 years after the day of

  610. Pentecost. Uh and then Paul talks at

  611. length uh in 1 Corinthians 14 on the

  612. gifts of tongues uh written more than 20

  613. years after the day of Pentecost. Uh and

  614. so what historical facts do we have uh

  615. about the outpouring of the Holy Ghost.

  616. Uh the interpreter's dictionary the

  617. Bible states uh through the centuries

  618. glossalia has frequently appeared among

  619. Christian groups. Uh the encyclopedia of

  620. Britannica asserts uh that miraculous

  621. utterances reoccur in Christian revivals

  622. uh in every age. Uh the 20th century

  623. encyclopedia of religious knowledge says

  624. the phenomenon of speaking with other

  625. tongues as the spirit gives utterance

  626. has appeared in all ages of the church.

  627. Uh Dr. Phillip uh Dr. Philip Sha in his

  628. history of the apostolic church wrote uh

  629. that speaking in with tongues however

  630. was not confined to the day of

  631. Pentecost. This gift perpetuated itself

  632. and we find traces of it still in the

  633. second and the third centuries. Uh we

  634. find here that the Catholic good oh my

  635. goodness the Catholics are preaching

  636. now. It says that the Catholic biblical

  637. encyclopedia firms uh in regard to

  638. perpetuation of these uh chariotisms uh

  639. uh it may be said that although they

  640. were manifested more frequently in the

  641. infant church uh and the first centuries

  642. uh they have never been completely

  643. lacking in the church uh glossia

  644. is still a true charisma of the holy

  645. spirit. Uh Alvin Butler in his book the

  646. lies of the stain says that St. Pakamos

  647. uh a 4th century Egyptian monk was

  648. reported to have spoken the language of

  649. angels and after seasons of prayer under

  650. the power of the spirit was able to

  651. preach languages he had never learned.

  652. The encyclopedia bratannica points out

  653. the miracles of the utterance recurred

  654. among the among the benisscent friars of

  655. the 13th century. Again, Philip Sha and

  656. his comprehensive work, the history of

  657. the Christian church, writes about

  658. Vincent Frier, a great missionary who

  659. died in 1419. He was able to speak only

  660. Spanish. His sermons, though not

  661. interpreted or reported to have been

  662. understood in France and Italy, the gift

  663. of tongues and the gift of miracles were

  664. both ascribed unto him. I want to skip

  665. down to this place here in 1896.

  666. In the hills of North Carolina, the 20th

  667. century awakening began marked by

  668. speaking in tongues which almost

  669. simultaneously occurred in Topeka,

  670. Kansas, uh Isuza Street in Los Angeles,

  671. uh Corpus Christi, Texas, Korea, Sweden,

  672. Chile, and South of Africa. And I want

  673. you to know that the answer to the

  674. question, did the practice of tongues

  675. that the practice of the baptism of the

  676. Holy Spirit uh did it cease? Uh it did

  677. not. It's still there. Its tongues has

  678. never ceased. Uh they were not conjured

  679. up. Uh and in fact, according to

  680. history, they have been a part of the

  681. ministry of the church uh throughout the

  682. ages.

  683. And so I want to submit unto you right

  684. now if the fire has burned for the last

  685. 20 centuries. I I believe it's safe to

  686. conclude that we need the very fire of

  687. God to burn within us one more time. I

  688. want to tell you something. There were

  689. those uh that did not believe, did not

  690. understand, but they were hungry for God

  691. and they got along with God. And all of

  692. a sudden, the power of the Holy Ghost

  693. came upon them. And they began to speak

  694. in tongues that the spirit gave them

  695. utterance. They said, "I don't know

  696. what's going on. I don't understand it.

  697. Uh, but I SURE DO LIKE WHAT GOD'S DOING

  698. IN MY LIFE. UH, I come to tell you this

  699. morning that the power of God is still

  700. real today. UH, I STILL LIKE IT. I STILL

  701. LOVE IT. I still live FOR THE SHOUT AND

  702. I LIVE FOR HIM. CAN you say amen?

  703. >> You can't live without fire. Fire is the

  704. necessity.

  705. >> God is a consuming fire.

  706. >> We need this fire in our church more

  707. today than what we have ever needed it.

  708. When I look in the word of God, I

  709. discovered there was a man by the name

  710. of Jeremiah.

  711. Understand? Jeremiah

  712. had been beaten. Not only had he been

  713. beaten, but he had been humiliated. He

  714. had been brought to the gate. I I can't

  715. remember the name of the gate, but he

  716. had been brought to the gate. And one

  717. thing I know about it was that they

  718. lifted him up. They put him in a place

  719. where everybody could see him. And they

  720. humiliated him in front of everyone in

  721. the city. They beat him. They imprisoned

  722. him. They saw him as he was uh as he was

  723. lifted up. And they knew that he was

  724. being beaten for what he was prophesying

  725. and for what he was saying. Jeremiah got

  726. a little bit discouraged. Uh he says,

  727. "I'm not going to talk about it anymore.

  728. I'm not going to say it. Uh, but all of

  729. a sudden, something happened to him. And

  730. he said, but I couldn't stay. I couldn't

  731. keep my mouth shut. I couldn't back off

  732. because it was a fire that was shut up

  733. in my bones. Uh what I'm saying today uh

  734. is oh God uh give me that fire uh that

  735. in the face of opposition in the face of

  736. fear in the in the place of where I

  737. don't know what's going to happen next

  738. that the one thing that I desire is that

  739. the fire of God would flow through me.

  740. Come on. I need that fire. GIVE ME THE

  741. FIRE THAT JEREMIAH HAD.

  742. Hallelujah to God.

  743. See, this fire cleanses. It sanctifies.

  744. It prepares you for service. It's not

  745. just feel good, but I'm telling you,

  746. God's doing something on the inside.

  747. Hallelujah.

  748. >> You see, we see in the fire in Acts two

  749. hit, it transformed

  750. ordinary people

  751. into soldiers for the Lord Jesus Christ.

  752. >> Hallelujah.

  753. >> I said I was coming back to the ashes.

  754. When we fail to feed the fire, it dies

  755. down.

  756. And when the fire begins to die down, it

  757. begins to be covered with ash.

  758. What I want to ask somebody here this

  759. morning is just simply this. What's got

  760. you covered up?

  761. >> What's blanketing you this morning?

  762. >> Oh God, help me to preach here, please.

  763. In the name of Jesus, point your hand

  764. this way and say, "God, give him a

  765. double dose." Hallelujah.

  766. Hallelujah.

  767. You see, when I begin to look at that

  768. that that that ash and everything that's

  769. over the top of that fire that's holding

  770. that fire back, that's covering up the

  771. bright glow of the of the of the coals

  772. uh that is uh that is causing the heat

  773. not to be able to come forth and the

  774. flame not to come forth. And all of this

  775. here, I begin to realize that there are

  776. some things in our life that causes us

  777. uh to lose our joy, to lose our peace,

  778. to lose our hope. Uh there's things

  779. within us that cause us uh if we're not

  780. careful where our praise becomes quiet.

  781. Uh where our worship is snuffed out. Uh

  782. and we sit there uh on the pews and sit

  783. in the chairs and we go home and we just

  784. wonder is there any hope whatsoever?

  785. because we begin to lose out. Uh you see

  786. what happens uh is whenever the whenever

  787. we fail to feed it and the ash begins to

  788. fall upon us. Uh that represents the

  789. cares of this life. Uh that represents

  790. worry. Uh that represents fear this

  791. morning. Uh sometimes we get distracted.

  792. Sometimes we get complacent. Uh

  793. sometimes we get lazy. Uh and we won't

  794. read our Bible all of a sudden. and uh

  795. we'd rather read something else. Uh one

  796. of the one of the biggest time stealers

  797. uh that every one of us got uh it's this

  798. right here. Come on. Can you say amen?

  799. Uh you hear what I'm saying? Uh it takes

  800. it takes you away from relationship. Uh

  801. it'll take you away from spending time

  802. with your family. It'll take you away

  803. from uh Have you ever went to lunch with

  804. somebody and they just sit there, look

  805. at their phone, they won't look at you?

  806. Come on. And I I'm just here to tell

  807. you, I imagine most of us are guilty of

  808. it at one way or other. But I want you

  809. to know something. The ash uh gets up on

  810. us. Uh and it begins to steal our time.

  811. Uh it begins to take us. Uh and it

  812. begins to and it begins to move up in

  813. our life. And all of a sudden, whenever

  814. that fire's not burning, worry begins to

  815. come in. When that fire's not burning,

  816. fear begins to come in. uh when that

  817. fire is not burning uh our faith begins

  818. to dwindle down where we can't believe

  819. God uh and we begin to look at our

  820. family uh and our family gets away from

  821. God uh and all we can think about is uh

  822. oh God what's going on uh and sometimes

  823. you sometimes God is saying uh you need

  824. to shake off uh those heavy bands uh you

  825. need to lift up some holy hands uh you

  826. need to shake off the ash uh and begin

  827. to praise uh and to glorify God. Uh you

  828. see when I look at that uh when I look

  829. in that old barrel over there uh it

  830. ain't nothing but ashes that I see.

  831. But there's a scripture that comes to my

  832. mind. Uh he will give you beauty for

  833. ashes. Uh whenever you stand in the

  834. middle of an ash pit, uh when you're

  835. standing in the place where you don't

  836. know where to go and you don't know what

  837. to do, he will give you beauty. He will

  838. raise you up. You hear what I'm saying?

  839. I said God is able to raise you up. He

  840. was able to bring water out of a rock.

  841. Come on, can you say amen? He fed him

  842. with mana. He parted the Red Sea. He

  843. parted the Jordan. Uh he was a God that

  844. was before them. And I'm telling you

  845. this morning that the God that I serve

  846. uh he is able to do exceedingly

  847. abundantly above all that we're able to

  848. ask or to think. Come on. Can you say

  849. amen? I think about this ash. I begin to

  850. think about it. I begin to look up and

  851. there's some there's some Hebrew Hebrew

  852. words with praise. Uh how many of you

  853. believe in praising God?

  854. How many believe it's beneficial to

  855. praise God? Well, there's a word called

  856. hal. Uh it's that word that we get the

  857. word hallelujah. The spiritual tone is

  858. it uh is joyful abandon. It's the

  859. exuberant praise uh that David praised

  860. uh when he danced before the ark. Uh it

  861. is God just done something. Uh sometimes

  862. we shout hallelujah when our favorite

  863. team scores a touchdown. But I want to

  864. tell you something. God is saying I want

  865. you to SHOUT HALLELUJAH BECAUSE I JUST

  866. DONE SOMETHING. Worked a miracle within

  867. your life. Uh come on somebody. We need

  868. to SHOUT HALLELUJAH FOR THE POWER OF GOD

  869. THAT FLOWS IN OUR HEARTS UH IN our

  870. lives. Can you say amen? You see when I

  871. look at this uh also there's a another

  872. word. But I'm not going to go through

  873. all seven of them. But there is that

  874. there is that word of yada. It means uh

  875. it is associated with the surrender or

  876. the public acknowledgment. Uh that is

  877. God. It means to extend the hand in

  878. thanksgiving or confession. It's

  879. openhanded worship. It's declaring trust

  880. and gratitude and raising hands unto God

  881. in worship out of gratitude. that song

  882. that we sang while ago where he's given

  883. me chance after chance after chance

  884. after chance. I want to I want to show

  885. GRATITUDE UH UNTO GOD. I WANT TO THANK

  886. GOD uh that I'm going to that I'm behind

  887. a pull pit talking about the GOODNESS OF

  888. GOD THAT I'M NOT LAYING OUT THERE IN A

  889. DITCH DRUNK. UH BUT I'M SAVED BY THE

  890. POWER OF GOD.

  891. HALLELUJAH.

  892. >> I want I'm fixing to quit.

  893. >> But there is a there is a Hebrew word

  894. and this is where I want to go and this

  895. is where I'm going to quit. It's called

  896. toada toadah.

  897. >> Amen.

  898. >> It's a thanksgiving choir of offering of

  899. thanks.

  900. It's whenever praise is offered

  901. before the answer comes.

  902. >> It's faithfilled

  903. with gratitude.

  904. It's entering into his gates with

  905. thanksgiving. Hallelujah.

  906. I said entering into his gates with

  907. thanksgiving. We enter into his church

  908. house uh into this place of worship with

  909. thanksgiving. Come on. Can you say amen?

  910. uh enter into those gates. Uh I remember

  911. some years ago my brother, my oldest

  912. living brother told me a story not too

  913. long ago uh about my mom. I got a

  914. brother that he's always reliving

  915. history, but he told the story about my

  916. mother. You see, back in 1951, my mom

  917. got saved uh in a Brush Harbor camp

  918. meeting uh that was preached by brother

  919. WL Swagger uh and she got saved in that

  920. meeting. Uh from that meeting, uh the

  921. Wisner Assembly of God was birthed. Uh

  922. and my mom was a was a became one of the

  923. charter members uh of that church. Uh

  924. and back in that day it was just an old

  925. church uh out there sandwiched in

  926. between some cow pastures. Uh but yet uh

  927. yet they would they would take turns uh

  928. cleaning the church. It was her day to

  929. clean the church. Uh my brother told me

  930. he gave her a ride to church. Uh not in

  931. a not in a car, not in a pickup truck,

  932. but on a Ford tractor, an old gasoline

  933. Ford tractor. Imagine what that looked

  934. like uh back in the 1950s before I was

  935. born. Uh but she gave her a ride. Uh she

  936. stood there with her feet on the on the

  937. on the on that uh on on the running

  938. boards and leaned up against the against

  939. the fender while my brother was driving

  940. that church that tractor up to the

  941. church house uh about a fivemile drive.

  942. And she said, "My mama," he said, "my

  943. mama sang all the way to that church."

  944. to understand something. When she got to

  945. the church, I don't know what they was

  946. cleaning up. Uh the bathroom was no

  947. bathroom in it. There was outside

  948. toilet. Uh they had it was a big toilet.

  949. Uh and after Sunday school, you would

  950. see uh you would see the men standing on

  951. one side, the ladies standing on the

  952. other because it was separated. Come on.

  953. Uh and the and you know and so there was

  954. a line always after Sunday school of the

  955. men on over here and the women over

  956. here. But nevertheless uh she went in

  957. there, she cleaned up that church. Uh

  958. and my brother told me that the next day

  959. when they walked into that church, uh my

  960. mama walked in there, she turned around

  961. and looked at him and she said, "You

  962. know what? I just feel like something

  963. good is about to happen." Uh, she said

  964. it before old Roberts ever did. Uh, she

  965. just said, "I feel like something good

  966. is about to happen." Uh, something

  967. good's going to happen today. Uh, and

  968. she and then my brother told me that
