Yes, I'm so excited Schools are letting out.

Students are out basically this week.

The students are in the middle of exams right now, today, tomorrow Friday, and then teachers will be coming back after the Memorial Day holiday.

Y'all got any kind of Memorial Day plans?

Is it just going to be hanging at the house and chill Pretty?

much.

Last week we went to Gatlinburg for the weekend so we had like a little trip there.

We went to go scope out the camp venue and we stayed an extra day, or actually extra couple of days, and got to take the boys out to do some sites and checked out Dollywood.

So I love it.

We're just going to.

I think Memorial Day is just going to be a low-key day for us, I think.

I seriously think I'm going to load my bicycle up in my truck and go to like Shelby Farms and just ride for a couple of hours.

You should Just.

Oh, we have, of course, vacation Bible School coming up.

Registration is online.

It is June 2nd through the 6th.

The preregistration, however, closes on May 26th.

If you want to see a line that rivals Taylor Swift tickets, you show up on Monday morning of DeSoto Hills VBS without preregistering your child.

Yeah, it's a struggle, it's chaos, it's hard to move.

We would highly recommend that you pre-register your child.

It is very simple.

Click that link and it's going to take you through a number of questions that you would be able to guess.

Your name address all of that stuff emergency phone numbers, all of that good stuff?

It really isn't.

And if you get to the bottom of it, there is an option if you've got multiple children where you can detail that.

You can click that and it just lets you start adding children rather than having to refill out all of the adult information for each child.

When you get here on Monday morning to drop your kids off for Vacation Bible School, you'll come up and it is a very easy process if you've already done the pre-registration, and you will pass the Swifty line, the Taylor Swifty line, and you'll just be waving at people.

It'll be incredible.

Our Wednesday night classes are rolling, officially rolling.

For the summer the women had the Jude study with Katie Downs, the men are looking at the book of Titus with Barry Dale, and then Grant is looking at a book titled Finding Direction to Redeem the Nations and it's about missions around the world.

It's a pretty fascinating look at the mission field inside.

So that's a fantastic class.

His class is meeting down in the DeSoto room, so make sure you come.

We are serving meals on Wednesday nights, but you do need to let us know Monday.

David, you are a gamer.

We talk about gaming every once in a while.

If you remember, a few months ago I got really mad about Madden and for many of us, for many of you, you may have seen my Facebook rant where I absolutely lost my cool on Facebook about Madden, how difficult it is to set up and play the Madden game.

You essentially have to have a degree, a college degree, to figure out how to get into that game and actually get started.

So I had to have my cousin come from next door and he had to literally hold a small master class and if you saw that image on Facebook, he's sitting there and it's me and my wife and his wife and we're all just sitting there, captivated, as he is, in full teacher mode, pointing at the television trying to explain all of the various.

I don't know how they cram that much stuff into that disc for that game Like it is absolutely insane.

There's training modes, there's every team.

There's Super Bowls, it's.

It's absolutely daunting.

What is your favorite game like?

What is one of your go-to?

Or, if you can think back and all the games, because you've played all of them, what has been like one of the most impressive games to you that you come back to a lot?

that I come back to.

Uh, I don't know, that's a tough one.

Um, I was a big, like I grew up in the 90s, obviously, uh, so I was coming like I played the super nintendo and then we rolled into like the nintendo 64 and those were like my biggest childhood memories and so, as far as retro games go, man, I was crazy about the Zelda franchise.

Oh, yeah, Like Nintendo like, one of their flagship games was Zelda, and so I played countless of hours on the Nintendo 64 Zeldas all of them but that one is the one that you can still go back to, like it's on digital library and you can go back and play anytime.

So, yeah, that one, uh, was my favorite, probably of all time okay, for the 40 people listening to this podcast.

What's your favorite console?

Your favorite gaming console?

Like current or of all time I guess current, like it seems like everybody's either you're either one or you're the other these days, yeah yeah, right either xbox or playstation.

Is that basically the two biggest boys?

playstation 5 than anything else, probably in the last you know since it released, I guess in 2019 or so, so does it almost these days has it become?

whatever the newest console on the market is, is what people tend to gravitate towards.

Well, it's between the three, like Nintendo, Xbox and PlayStation, and so there seems to like PlayStation has more of a market and so there seems to like PlayStation has more of a market, more of the gaming market.

Their slice of the pie is bigger than probably everybody else, but there's a lot of crossover, you know, not between Xbox and PlayStation, but if you have a PlayStation, people usually have like a Nintendo, Switch or whatever, so probably the PlayStation.

I've played more PlayStation than anything else.

All right, but I don't play a lot anymore.

You've had kids and then the time is so, uh, probably the playstation.

And then there's the time is leo kind of has gotten into playing little, uh, his little video games like bluey and so like.

If I ever like, wanted to like pretend, like I wanted to get on the nintendo or the playstation or whatever we have, he's going to be like oh, can we play bluey?

And I don't want to be that guy.

That's like no, go away, you know leave me alone.

You're instantly bored, and then yeah, I just watch him play, and he'll want me to help him every once in a while, and so I don't really play that much anymore the new nintendo switch, which is all the buzz right now on the market.

You think you're going to pull the lever on that one.

I don't know, I mean I've told you I think the Switch is one of the most brilliant consoles that's come out, because of how flexible it is.

Yeah well, Leo's seen some commercials on TV about the Nintendo Switch 2, and he's pretty much banking on that we're going to get one, but I'm like oh, you know, we might give it a year or two before we do that yeah, but he knows his dad, so he's like oh, we're definitely getting, oh for sure, all right.

Table topics, all right.

I think I asked Grant this one the other day what would you love to find at a yard sale?

And you are the type of person who comes up with treasures all the time, yeah yeah, man, a yard sale.

What would I like to find at a yard sale?

Like old antique office stuff, like really yeah I like, I like, like, I like that kind of stuff, like that's kind of old and outdated but it's, it's new.

I mean people like go, go for it, like if you want to have so like I got some bookends, so like a 1950s madman office desk and attache.

Is that what they call the old briefcases that?

Are really really fine leather.

I got some bookends for my office and they're just the brass like mallard head.

Hannah got those for me and I loved them, and she had to find them on eBay, which is basically a giant yard sale, you know, right, you?

know people sleep on eBay these these days.

I get on there and in fact I bought two things today on ebay because I feel like everybody flooded facebook marketplace and left ebay and so the cost of things on ebay.

I shouldn't be saying that on the podcast or all of these 40 listeners.

But the cost of everything on ebay has kind of come down because I think that it's a smaller market yeah, and agreed yeah so interesting, though, that those mallard heads were really really popular back in the day.

Yes, I've got some from my office and I went in to show miss vicky and grant and they both already had the same exact ones.

I was like, oh well, this is great which school subject will be the most important, you think, for people in their lives?

he's making a face science he's making a face.

He's like math and science.

He's thinking the whole time like are any of them really that?

important math and science I was really big on like biology.

I was not that good at math, but but biology I loved it.

What are your simple pleasures?

Just a place of peace at home, you know.

How often does that happen?

Not a lot, because you've got two very hyperactive boys Very active boys who are very all boy, all right.

Yes.

And so like if we can catch like a 15 minute like quiet time man just at the house, even like I'm all about it sitting on the porch or whatever.

What do you love about your hometown?

Okay, so hometown.

And what do you claim is your hometown?

I mean, really, you lived in a community is where you grew up.

That's where I grew up.

Did you consider Olive Branch town?

Yeah, like we spent most.

We went to church in Memphis.

Most of everything we did was in Olive Branch or Hernando.

So I would probably say we spent more time Hernando growing up.

So I liked Hernando because the library, uh, we, we, you know, we homeschooled or whatever my mom had us all in, like these days where you can go read books or go to have a class at the library or story time.

Those were the days.

The square in Hernando is a really romantic place Like it's a, really, and Hernando is a really romantic place.

Yeah, it's really cool, like it's a.

Really.

It takes you back in time a little bit to small town Mississippi.

Oddly enough, that's what Silo is starting to become in South Haven, because South Haven's never had that type of identity or that space.

So I think Silo Square, I think the romanticism that people are finding around Silo Square, is just because this area has never had it before.

So, but yeah, hernando, great man, great town, and we've lost some things in Hernando and we've gained some things in Hernando.

There's certainly some things I've missed about Hernando from years ago.

Yeah, the best teacher you ever had, which doesn't have to be school, I realize that you homeschooled some.

I had a really great teacher in college for psychology Interesting.

His name was Charlie Aaron.

He was a great teacher.

I had taken him for general psychology one and then I took him for psych two, uh, and I just learned so much and he made it fun, relevant.

He's since retired, uh, but he's one of those guys that has kept, you know, tabs on a ton of his students and he'll facebook message me or I.

You know I've run.

I ran into him here at church at a funeral and he just gave me a big hug and asked how I was and wanted to meet my boys and see Hannah, and so he's just one of those guys, that's.

He was probably my all-time favorite, that's awesome because psychology can be a really boring subject.

It can be an interesting one, or it can be a really really boring one, right?

We are now joined by Pastor Emeritus James Lewis for our shift to the devotion portion of the podcast that we call the Midweek Moment moment.

If you have a red letter edition of the scripture, you will find in John's gospel the very first words Jesus speaks are actually a question what are you seeking?

Now, to give you a little context of that, I want to say three, two, one.

Three people are standing as that episode starts John and two of his disciples.

Two people are following.

Those two disciples follow Jesus after John says behold the Lamb of God.

And then one is turning.

Jesus is turning and he's asking that question what are you seeking?

Several things I want to remind you.

Number one it's a personal question.

What are you seeking?

It's a question that all of us ought to be asking ourselves when we look at Jesus.

What are we wanting to do?

Second, it is a piercing question.

The directness of it makes it piercing.

Jesus doesn't say hello guys, thank you for following me.

He just, I think, rather sternly, goes into it and asks them very directly what are you seeking?

So the directness of it makes it piercing.

But second, the direction of it makes it piercing.

These are John's disciples who are now following Jesus because they want to be following Jesus, and so they're not just run-of-the-mill people who have been following Jesus, want to be following Jesus, and so they're not just run-of-the-mill people who have been following Jesus.

I think their intention is good, but Jesus asked the question and it's a very particular question because he's wanting them to ponder what do you really want?

I don't think it's a genie-in-the-bottle question.

I don't think Jesus is saying what do you want, as in whatever you want, I'll give you.

I think it's a God on a throne question.

He's saying think about what you really want.

And I love their response.

Their response is this when Jesus says what are you seeking, these two disciples say where are you staying?

And Jesus says come and see.

I think these disciples are saying Jesus, what we really want is to be where you are, and should that not be our desire?

And so today you ponder that question what are you seeking?

Do you simply want to be where Jesus is?
