  1. You know, I always get approached every morning before service, you know, what's your title?

  2. And well, of course, it's Father's Day. Happy Father's Day.

  3. Do we got any dads in the house?

  4. Okay.

  5. Yeah, whole bucket full. Yeah.

  6. But so I didn't know what to entitle this.

  7. I could throw in a Father thing, but the thing that's probably overwhelming is an impossible command.

  8. And you think, you look at God's Word and you look at God's law.

  9. And obviously, you don't have to look at the Ten Commandments very long to realize how terribly short we fall of God's glory.

  10. And so Jesus, this last week, we looked at the woe, woe, woe, woe.

  11. And we go from the woe to are you kidding me?

  12. And so we're going to look at verses 27 through 36.

  13. And I want you to hang on to your hat.

  14. And I want you to prepare your heart because just looking at this this last week and studying through it,

  15. it's it's kind of tipped me over a little bit.

  16. And so would you pray with me?

  17. Father, thank you for this word that is Lord is from you.

  18. All the letters are in red and you speak truth to our hearts.

  19. And Lord, it seems to be overwhelming and impossible for us fallen creatures to to fulfill what is what is written here, Lord.

  20. But we know that with you and by your spirit, you're able to do things in us that we could never do in ourselves, Lord.

  21. And so we pray for that as we as we look at this and that you would teach us by your spirit, Lord,

  22. and also empower us by your spirit.

  23. If we feel weak, if we feel incapable of doing what you've called us to do, Lord,

  24. you you you tell us that you'll you'll enable us, Lord, that you'll you'll qualify the called,

  25. not necessarily calling the qualified, Lord.

  26. So we just thank you that you use the foolish things of the world.

  27. So may we be your fool tonight in Jesus name today.

  28. Amen.

  29. And tonight.

  30. So let's just read.

  31. We'll read these these 10 verses from verse 27 to 36.

  32. And it says, but I say to you.

  33. Do what?

  34. Yeah.

  35. Chapter six.

  36. Sorry.

  37. Luke chapter six, verses 27 through 36.

  38. But I say to you who hear love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you and pray for those who spitefully use you to him who strikes you on the one cheek.

  39. Offer the other also.

  40. And from him who takes away your cloak, do not withhold your tunic either.

  41. Give to everyone who asks of you.

  42. And and from him who takes away your goods, do not ask them back.

  43. And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them to them likewise.

  44. But if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you?

  45. Or even for even sinners love those who love them.

  46. And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you?

  47. For even sinners do the same.

  48. And if you lend to those from whom you hope to receive back, what credit is that to you?

  49. For even sinners lend to sinners to receive as much back.

  50. But love your enemies, do good and lend, hoping for nothing in return.

  51. And your reward will be great.

  52. And you will be sons of the Most High.

  53. For he is kind to the unthankful and evil.

  54. Therefore, be merciful just as your Father also is merciful.

  55. And, you know, you say, well, really?

  56. The first thing he says is to those, it says, but I say to you who hear.

  57. You got to hear God's word, right?

  58. And sometimes these words are so familiar to us, we don't really hear them, right?

  59. We don't really let it sink in and really ruminate in our hearts and in our conscience and in our mind.

  60. Because when I see this, I see, what?

  61. But I hate my enemies.

  62. I don't like them.

  63. And Jesus is telling me here, you know what?

  64. Sorry.

  65. You know, I want to be like David.

  66. You know, Psalm 58, which says, break their teeth in their mouth, O Lord.

  67. And so, but are we one who hears?

  68. Are we willing to hear?

  69. This is those who will listen and shame on you if you don't.

  70. Because this is really, it is a command.

  71. And it does seem like a ridiculous, impossible command.

  72. And, but enemies often stir up an anger and a hatred.

  73. And I think that we see that's what's going on in the Middle East right now.

  74. Because of hatred, because of the darkness of men's hearts.

  75. That's why we see a pretty ferocious battle going on in Israel and in Iran.

  76. And so, we definitely need to be praying.

  77. Praying for the Israelites.

  78. Praying for the Iranians.

  79. That they would come to know Jesus.

  80. That this is going to solve nothing spiritually for either country.

  81. They need to repent and turn to the great God and Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.

  82. That's what they need.

  83. And that's what you and I need.

  84. But it's interesting how easily we're angered by those who come against us or take from us or hurt us.

  85. And our hatred causes us to forget our own sin.

  86. When you're angry with somebody, you forget your own sin.

  87. You forget all about it.

  88. It's like, no, I'm justified in this.

  89. No, you're not.

  90. Nor am I.

  91. The only one justified to punish sin is God himself.

  92. Right?

  93. He's justified in that.

  94. Or the whole justice system that God put into place.

  95. That's justified.

  96. But the Lord tells us, vengeance is mine.

  97. I will repay, says the Lord.

  98. And, but I don't like that because I want to be the one who's paying that bill.

  99. Right?

  100. I'm the one that wants to get even.

  101. I've often said, and I confuse people sometimes when I say this, but I often say that someone's sin against you can be your greatest sin.

  102. It can become your greatest sin.

  103. When somebody sins against you.

  104. Because you harbor it.

  105. You hang on to it.

  106. You let it fester.

  107. Turning to this oozy, pussy sore in your heart that you can't get past.

  108. And it's all consuming.

  109. And it becomes your greatest sin.

  110. That's why Jesus says, if you do not forgive, you can't be forgiven.

  111. And I've had people tell me, I will never forgive.

  112. Really?

  113. That's a pretty tough stance.

  114. Because you, you're disqualifying yourself from the kingdom by doing that.

  115. And, and all fruit of the flesh.

  116. It just, it just, just, it's evident.

  117. It just comes out.

  118. Right?

  119. Sometimes there's little triggers.

  120. Maybe you hear a person's name that you're angry with.

  121. Or, or maybe even a people group.

  122. Galatians tells us what it looks like.

  123. And it's, it's, it's, it's a stench.

  124. It's ugly.

  125. In Galatians 5, it says, now the works of the flesh are evident, which are adultery and fornication.

  126. Cleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions.

  127. Sounds like teenagers, don't it?

  128. Dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like.

  129. Of which I tell you beforehand, just as I told you in time past,

  130. that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

  131. The Lord is really calling us to call our hearts into account here.

  132. With how we deal with those who hate us and, and don't like us.

  133. And, and may have maybe hurt us.

  134. And therefore caused us to hate them and not to like them.

  135. So he says four things in verses 27 and 28.

  136. First, he says, love, right?

  137. Love, this is agapeo.

  138. It's the, it's the noun, or the, excuse me, the verb form of agape.

  139. It's wholehearted, unconditional devotion.

  140. Really?

  141. To my enemies?

  142. You know?

  143. That's what he said.

  144. I didn't say it.

  145. He said it.

  146. Feelings and condition, you know, feelings, sentimental feelings.

  147. Really?

  148. But I don't feel anything for these people.

  149. Years ago, I, I worked with a guy that I didn't really like.

  150. He was kind of a greaser.

  151. You know what I mean?

  152. You know, he had long, greasy hair.

  153. And he mocha-toked quite a bit.

  154. And I was saved at this point.

  155. And I'm, I walk into the break room one day, and I just met this guy.

  156. And I'm thinking, oh, Lord, please don't ever let me have to work with that guy.

  157. Oh, you know what's coming, don't you?

  158. Very next day.

  159. Him and I are in a transport, transporting equipment all day long.

  160. And I thought, oh, my gosh, I'm going to backslide all over this guy's face.

  161. So we get to talking, and I start sharing with him.

  162. And come to find out he had grown up, knowing the Lord, knowing who the Lord is.

  163. And he finally looked at me.

  164. He says, Scotty, he says, don't you got to want it?

  165. And I thought, yeah, you really do.

  166. You got to want it.

  167. You got to want Jesus.

  168. But it was amazing to me how the Lord totally turned my heart.

  169. And even now, when I think of him, his name's Chris Wynn.

  170. He's from the Magic Valley down there.

  171. When I think of Chris, I pray for him.

  172. And just began, just, I just came to love the guy.

  173. And I know that wasn't me.

  174. But the Lord, you know, checked my little sour attitude, if you will, by, oh, so you don't

  175. think you can like this guy?

  176. Well, I'm going to just make you, you know, a little uncomfortable here and put you in

  177. your place.

  178. And he did.

  179. And my love for him began to grow.

  180. I actually had feelings for this guy.

  181. I loved him.

  182. And I wanted to see him come to know Jesus.

  183. And so God can do that.

  184. But you got to let him, right?

  185. That was the only thing that I had going for him.

  186. And I was willing to let God let me.

  187. Because at the moment, I didn't feel like it at all.

  188. Right?

  189. But love goes beyond feelings, right?

  190. Anybody married?

  191. You ask my wife many times.

  192. She feels like murdering me and collecting that life insurance policy.

  193. Life would be so much easier without this bozo around.

  194. But, so it goes beyond feeling.

  195. Secondly, he says, do good.

  196. And this is a, it means an honest goodness, not fake.

  197. Do good.

  198. Do good to my enemies.

  199. Yes.

  200. If they stumble, help them up.

  201. If they break down, give them a pull.

  202. If their donkey wanders astray, return him to the one that's your enemy.

  203. I had this happen to me one time.

  204. I was, well, I saw it displayed, actually.

  205. And it was one of my hellion friends that had grown up as a Christian.

  206. And we were up skiing.

  207. And I was the youngest.

  208. I was just between my eighth grade and freshman year.

  209. And, and, or maybe it wasn't my freshman year because it was winter time.

  210. And we were skiing.

  211. And these guys had graduated high school.

  212. And I was, and they were big, tough guys.

  213. And so, I was kind of cocky.

  214. And I go off this jump and crash.

  215. I wasn't a very good skier.

  216. I was really good at crashing.

  217. And I crashed and I dug this big divot down below the jump.

  218. And this one kid up above, you know, that was, he was still in high school.

  219. He goes, hey, dopey, cover up your hole.

  220. You calling me dopey?

  221. And they were a lot bigger than me.

  222. But my buddies said, hey, he's with us.

  223. And, and so he kind of give him, give the kid a little tongue lash in, in, and humbled him.

  224. And so, we're on our way home that night after the lifts closed.

  225. And guess what?

  226. About a mile down from the, from the ski hill, this dude's run off the road.

  227. And I thought, good.

  228. And my buddy, all of a sudden, he got this soft heart.

  229. He's a great big guy.

  230. He got this soft heart and he goes, no, we got to help him.

  231. I said, really?

  232. I said, yeah, we got to help him.

  233. His dad was my elementary principal.

  234. And boy, could that guy swing the paddle.

  235. But they were a Christian family, just good people.

  236. And though this kid was kind of right in his testimony, he knew what was right.

  237. And he knew that we needed to stop and help this kid that had, you know, insulted me.

  238. And sure enough, he did.

  239. Showed him kindness.

  240. I thought, wow, that's how you do this?

  241. I don't know that I was impressed.

  242. I was just kind of, you know, behooved that he would do that.

  243. But that's what it's talking about here.

  244. Just an honest goodness.

  245. No, I'm going to help you.

  246. I don't care what you did.

  247. Isn't that what God does to us?

  248. Hey, I'm offering you salvation here.

  249. And you've sinned against me.

  250. And I'm willing to let all that go.

  251. You just come to me.

  252. And the goodness of the Lord.

  253. And that's what Jesus is teaching here.

  254. That we're to be good.

  255. It doesn't matter what people do to us.

  256. Thirdly, he says, bless.

  257. It's interesting.

  258. This was a Greek word.

  259. Well, I can't even say it.

  260. Eulogio.

  261. Which is where we get our word eulogy.

  262. Right?

  263. And eulogy, it literally means to speak well of.

  264. We see that at funerals.

  265. A lot of times people are lying at funerals.

  266. But they try to speak well.

  267. It reminds me of this story.

  268. That I heard about the two brothers.

  269. They were just, they were no good lying, cheating, thieving dogs.

  270. They weren't.

  271. One of them dies.

  272. And so the pastor's getting ready to do the funeral.

  273. And the brother comes up to him and says, I don't care what you say about my brother.

  274. But you better let them people know that he was a good, upstanding, honest guy.

  275. And the pastor was in a quandary.

  276. He didn't know what to do.

  277. So he gets up and he says, this man was a lying, thieving, womanizing, cheating, stealing dog.

  278. But compared to his brother over here, he was an upstanding, good guy.

  279. He says, bless those who curse you.

  280. They're speaking ill of you, right?

  281. That's what it means.

  282. It means that we must speak well of those who speak ill of us.

  283. William Barclay, a certain commentator, says this about this pastor.

  284. He says, we cannot love our enemies as we love our nearest or dearest.

  285. To do so would be unnatural, impossible, and he says, even wrong.

  286. But we can see to it that no matter what a man does to us, even if he insults, ill treats, and injures us, we will seek nothing but his highest good.

  287. That's so against our nature.

  288. That's why people are going, how can you do this?

  289. This is like it's impossible.

  290. Fourthly, he says that we should pray.

  291. Right?

  292. He says, pray for those who spitefully use you.

  293. And that's the key, is to pray.

  294. When you pray for your enemy, something happens.

  295. One commentator said, how should we treat our enemies?

  296. We must love them, do good, bless them, fourthly, pray for them.

  297. Hatred only breeds more hatred.

  298. That's so true.

  299. For man's anger does not produce the righteousness of God.

  300. That's James 1.20.

  301. It can't be done in our own strength.

  302. It is impossible for us to do in our own strength.

  303. But it can be done, however, through the Holy Spirit.

  304. Right?

  305. And if you finish, I read part of Galatians 5 there.

  306. And if you go on down, when it talks about the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace.

  307. You know, long-suffering, brotherly kindness.

  308. That's what comes from a person that is filled with God's Holy Spirit.

  309. He goes on and he says, we must not look at these admonitions as a series of rules to obey.

  310. They describe an attitude of heart that expresses itself positively when others are negative.

  311. And generously when others are selfish.

  312. All to the glory of God.

  313. It is an inner disposition, not a legal duty.

  314. It's just a...

  315. It's who you become as the Spirit of God begins to mold and shape you into the image of Christ Jesus.

  316. That's what happens.

  317. And then we're able to do it.

  318. Not in our own strength, but in His strength.

  319. Praying for our enemies, you guys, keeps our heart right with God and with men.

  320. It just keeps your heart right.

  321. Keeps you in the right place.

  322. You know, the old saying, right thinking leads to right living.

  323. It's true.

  324. But many say, impossible.

  325. Yes.

  326. But didn't Jesus come doing the impossible?

  327. He healed the terminal.

  328. He gave sight to the blind.

  329. He raised the dead.

  330. Conquering death itself.

  331. Jesus came doing the impossible.

  332. And He talks about it quite a bit.

  333. In Matthew 17, His disciples got face to face with this dude that was demon possessed.

  334. And they couldn't cast the demon out.

  335. And so they questioned Jesus about it.

  336. And Jesus said to them, because of your unbelief, for assuredly I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, move from here to there.

  337. And it will move and nothing will be impossible for you.

  338. So it's all predicated upon our yieldedness to the Holy Spirit.

  339. Experience in salvation, being a child of God, born into the family, then God can fill you with His Spirit.

  340. And do what He wants with you.

  341. And give you the strength, the wherewithal, to do what Jesus instructs us to do here.

  342. Do you have faith that God can help you love your enemies?

  343. Because that's what He's saying here.

  344. If you've got faith, then nothing will be impossible for you.

  345. So many people say no, because they cut it off right there.

  346. They say, I will never.

  347. Don't say that.

  348. Right?

  349. Don't say that.

  350. I've said that before in my life.

  351. I would never do that.

  352. Guess what I do?

  353. Just what I said I would never do.

  354. That's how weak we are.

  355. Jesus talks to His disciples about the rich young ruler.

  356. I mentioned it last week.

  357. And how hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of heaven.

  358. And He said, surely I say to you that it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.

  359. And again, I say to you that it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.

  360. You know, and I talked about the woe to the rich.

  361. And I talked about the woe to the rich, right?

  362. Now, this is interesting.

  363. This, this, these disciples see the world like most Americans.

  364. They, they say, they say, and when His disciples heard it, they were greatly astonished saying, who then can be saved?

  365. Why?

  366. Why?

  367. Because you and I, we got a habit of chasing old George.

  368. Don't we?

  369. The more Georges we can get in our pocket, the better off we are, right?

  370. The disciples realized that.

  371. Who can be saved?

  372. Right?

  373. Isn't that why we go fishing every morning?

  374. Trying to catch enough fish to get rich?

  375. But Jesus looked at them and said to them, with men, this is impossible.

  376. But with God, all things are possible.

  377. But He said, it's hard.

  378. Hard for a rich man.

  379. Most of us in this room would qualify.

  380. As years ago, I had a Mormon friend that told me, oh, that eye of the needle thing.

  381. That's a, that's a, this, this little brick doorway in the Middle East that, you know, the only way camels can get through it is when they get on their knees and they can crawl through it.

  382. It's hard, but they can do it.

  383. Well, I thought, oh, wow.

  384. Well, that makes that a little more, you know, palatable.

  385. And then I looked at it in the Greek.

  386. And the Greek where it says needle, it means sewing needle.

  387. Right?

  388. It's easier for a camel to go through the eye of a sewing needle than for a rich man to get to heaven.

  389. Whoa.

  390. Whoa.

  391. Whoa.

  392. Whoa.

  393. Whoa.

  394. Whoa.

  395. Whoa.

  396. Whoa.

  397. but with God

  398. all things are possible

  399. including loving your enemies

  400. now as an old brawler

  401. back in the day

  402. fisticuffs was a

  403. normal thing

  404. I'm shocked now that

  405. people that I get upset with I don't want to

  406. beat their face in

  407. and it's like Lord you're

  408. you're pretty awesome

  409. because left to myself

  410. I'm a murderous self-centered

  411. huh yeah I won't go there but you know

  412. and so he doesn't stop there

  413. but in verses 29 through 31

  414. Jesus takes it to another level

  415. to him who strikes you on the one cheek

  416. offer the other also

  417. and from him who takes away your cloak

  418. do not withhold your tunic either

  419. give to everyone who asks you

  420. and from him who takes away your goods

  421. do not ask them back

  422. and just as you want men to do to you

  423. you also do to them likewise

  424. turn the other cheek

  425. seriously

  426. now I haven't been hit

  427. I haven't I haven't had to try to practice that one

  428. but I'm thinking

  429. I think I'd fail that test

  430. it's kind of like my friend

  431. my old Baptist preacher friend said

  432. yeah God told me to turn the other cheek

  433. and when they hit that one

  434. I have no further instructions

  435. we're terrible

  436. we are terribly wicked sinners

  437. and

  438. you know

  439. is this generosity

  440. generosity

  441. or stupidity

  442. Paul tells us in Romans chapter 12

    Romans 12 chapter mention

  443. he says

  444. beloved

  445. do not avenge yourselves

  446. but rather give place to wrath

  447. for it is written

  448. vengeance is mine

  449. I will repay

  450. says the Lord

  451. therefore if your enemy is hungry

  452. feed him

  453. if he is thirsty

  454. give him a drink

  455. for in so doing

  456. you will heap coals of fire

  457. on his head

  458. do not be overcome by evil

  459. but overcome evil with good

  460. overcome evil with good

  461. and I don't think that

  462. Paul is speaking tongue in cheek here

  463. right

  464. I don't think he's going

  465. yeah you're just getting them

  466. you're killing them with kindness

  467. yeah

  468. no

  469. he's just

  470. he just realized that vengeance

  471. is the Lord's

  472. and that when God calls us

  473. to show this kindness

  474. and this

  475. this

  476. ability to not retaliate

  477. that God can bless that

  478. and if this person doesn't turn

  479. then coals of fire will be heaped upon his head

  480. literally

  481. and simply to be a witness

  482. years ago when I was

  483. I was young in the Lord

  484. and I read a

  485. read a book about a

  486. KGB

  487. officer in Russia

  488. that had defected

  489. to the US

  490. and

  491. they were persecuting

  492. the underground church

  493. there in Russia

  494. at this time

  495. and

  496. and

  497. they would go in

  498. and break up Christian meetings

  499. and he was beating

  500. this old woman

  501. and

  502. she looked up at him

  503. with blood running out of

  504. all of her orifices

  505. in her face

  506. and she said

  507. Jesus forgive him

  508. he don't know what he's doing

  509. and it was that

  510. it was that act

  511. that led him to Christ

  512. and

  513. he moved to Canada

  514. defected from Russia

  515. the Holy Spirit

  516. got a hold of him

  517. and it was powerful

  518. what

  519. she was a witness

  520. she

  521. she was living out

  522. what Jesus instructed us here

  523. and

  524. and

  525. it

  526. it converted a soul

  527. and so

  528. it's our opportunity

  529. what I believe

  530. Paul's saying here

  531. is to be a witness

  532. to be a witness

  533. and to

  534. to be like Jesus

  535. as he said there

  536. at the cross

  537. that they don't know

  538. what they're doing

  539. now

  540. now we must have wisdom

  541. right

  542. I think there's

  543. there's times

  544. when we

  545. discern certain things

  546. I remember

  547. when they

  548. smote Jesus

  549. there in

  550. John 18

  551. he spoke

  552. he spoke

  553. to the dude

  554. and

  555. he said

  556. if

  557. if what I've said

  558. is wrong

  559. then okay

  560. but

  561. if what I said

  562. is good

  563. then why

  564. did you strike me

  565. why did you hit me

  566. and

  567. he was simply

  568. answering a question

  569. of the high priest

  570. Paul does the same thing

  571. in Acts 16

  572. when they're gonna come

  573. let him out of

  574. prison secretly

  575. he said oh no

  576. oh no

  577. we ain't going there

  578. they arrested me publicly

  579. put me to shame

  580. in front of everybody

  581. they're gonna come publicly

  582. and release me

  583. and so

  584. there's discernment

  585. but for the most part

  586. we are to turn the other cheek

  587. and pray that God

  588. would give us wisdom

  589. as Paul did there

  590. in Philippians chapter 1

    Philippians 1 chapter mention

  591. where he says

  592. this I pray

  593. that your love may abound

  594. still more and more

  595. in knowledge

  596. and in all discernment

  597. that you may approve

  598. the things that are excellent

  599. that you may be sincere

  600. and without offense

  601. till the day of Christ

  602. being filled with the fruits

  603. of righteousness

  604. which are by Jesus Christ

  605. to the glory

  606. and praise of God

  607. and so yes

  608. there's discernment

  609. but

  610. but think about this

  611. I mean

  612. he who steals

  613. your coat

  614. right

  615. let him have your cloak

  616. also

  617. that'd be like some dude

  618. coming stealing your stereo

  619. out of your car

  620. and you catch him

  621. and he takes off running

  622. and you go

  623. wait a minute

  624. you forgot the amplifier

  625. fire in the speakers

  626. it's just like

  627. Lord

  628. you got some work

  629. to do in us

  630. right

  631. and then he says

  632. and just as you want men

  633. to do to you

  634. you also do to them

  635. likewise

  636. now

  637. years ago

  638. and this was even

  639. before Christ

  640. in about 500 BC

  641. Confucius comes along

  642. with this same thought

  643. but in the negative

  644. and he was saying

  645. whatever you don't want

  646. people to do to you

  647. don't do it to them

  648. that's a negative

  649. Jesus brings it

  650. in the positive

  651. right

  652. where he says

  653. and just as you want

  654. men to do to you

  655. you also do to them

  656. like

  657. well what do you want

  658. men to do to you

  659. I want them to bless me

  660. I want them to be nice

  661. to me

  662. and kind to me

  663. and take care of me

  664. well

  665. then what does that mean

  666. you have to do

  667. I gotta bless them

  668. and be kind to them

  669. and take care of them

  670. that's what he's saying

  671. that's in the positive

  672. not in the negative

  673. no don't do to people

  674. that you don't want

  675. no

  676. do to people

  677. what you want

  678. done to you

  679. it was

  680. it was proactive

  681. verses 32 through 36

  682. as we close here

  683. this morning

  684. it says

  685. but if you love

  686. those who love you

  687. what credit is that

  688. to you

  689. for even sinners

  690. love those who love them

  691. and if you do good

  692. to those who do good

  693. to you

  694. what credit is that

  695. to you

  696. for even sinners

  697. do the same

  698. and if you lend

  699. to those

  700. from whom

  701. you hope to receive

  702. back

  703. what credit

  704. is that to you

  705. Jesus is saying

  706. you love people

  707. who love you

  708. so what

  709. there's nothing cool

  710. about that

  711. you don't deserve

  712. a pat on the back

  713. for that

  714. no you

  715. you love somebody

  716. that wants to

  717. beat your face

  718. in and cut

  719. your head off

  720. and you're nice

  721. to them

  722. that's what he's

  723. talking about

  724. for even sinners

  725. lend

  726. to sinners

  727. to receive

  728. as much

  729. back

  730. maybe with a little

  731. interest

  732. but love

  733. your enemies

  734. do good

  735. and lend

  736. hoping for

  737. nothing in return

  738. and your reward

  739. will be great

  740. and you

  741. will be the sons

  742. of the most high

  743. for he

  744. is kind

  745. to the unthankful

  746. and evil

  747. therefore

  748. be merciful

  749. just as your father

  750. also

  751. is merciful

  752. and he says

  753. here

  754. he says

  755. listen

  756. when you do

  757. this

  758. right

  759. you

  760. you

  761. you don't do it

  762. for nothing

  763. right

  764. you don't do it

  765. for nothing

  766. he says

  767. this

  768. there will be

  769. a reward

  770. and

  771. and we know

  772. that because

  773. it is the

  774. ultimate

  775. display

  776. of self

  777. denial

  778. well I've

  779. got rights

  780. man

  781. I've got the

  782. right to

  783. throw a

  784. punch

  785. after they've

  786. been

  787. beaten

  788. on me

  789. no

  790. pastor

  791. Gordon

  792. used to

  793. tell us

  794. when you

  795. come to

  796. Jesus

  797. you give

  798. up all

  799. your rights

  800. to be

  801. right

  802. when you

  803. come to

  804. Jesus

  805. you give

  806. up all

  807. your rights

  808. to be

  809. right

  810. notice

  811. he says

  812. he says

  813. for he

  814. is kind

  815. to the

  816. unthankful

  817. and evil

  818. doesn't that

  819. just gall

  820. you

  821. the

  822. unthankfulness

  823. of people

  824. we're seeing

  825. it's like

  826. a wave

  827. in our

  828. country

  829. people

  830. aren't

  831. thankful

  832. for this

  833. country

  834. that didn't

  835. just

  836. oh it

  837. just makes

  838. it just

  839. bristles

  840. me up

  841. makes me

  842. want to

  843. sin

  844. again

  845. teenagers

  846. right

  847. they just

  848. think they're

  849. entitled

  850. sometimes

  851. unthankful

  852. but notice

  853. it says

  854. that God

  855. the father

  856. is

  857. is kind

  858. to the

  859. unthankful

  860. and evil

  861. and it

  862. says

  863. and you

  864. will be

  865. the sons

  866. of the

  867. most high

  868. this is

  869. the father's

  870. day

  871. a loving

  872. kind

  873. merciful

  874. father

  875. should

  876. produce

  877. kind

  878. merciful

  879. children

  880. we need

  881. to be

  882. like our

  883. father

  884. in heaven

  885. Jesus

  886. was

  887. well it

  888. wasn't

  889. that it

  890. wasn't

  891. that he

  892. didn't get

  893. fired up

  894. he did

  895. righteously

  896. I might

  897. add

  898. mine is

  899. seldom

  900. righteously

  901. it's

  902. usually

  903. selfish

  904. proverbs

  905. 10

  906. 1 says

  907. a wise

  908. son

  909. makes a

  910. glad

  911. father

  912. and really

  913. folks we

  914. are truly

  915. living our

  916. lives for

  917. the audience

  918. of one

  919. it's only

  920. one person

  921. that matters

  922. because the

  923. day that you

  924. take your

  925. last breath

  926. and you

  927. stand all

  928. by yourself

  929. and I

  930. stand all

  931. by myself

  932. before the

  933. God of

  934. heaven

  935. I will

  936. give an

  937. account for

  938. all this

  939. stuff

  940. and I

  941. want to be

  942. that wise

  943. son

  944. that he

  945. did

  946. the

  947. awesome

  948. powerful

  949. word of

  950. God

  951. that

  952. discerns

  953. the

  954. thoughts

  955. and the

  956. intents

  957. of our

  958. heart

  959. and

  960. I'm

  961. looking

  962. forward

  963. to that

  964. day

  965. so I

  966. need

  967. to keep

  968. learning

  969. how to

  970. turn that

  971. of the

  972. cheek

  973. over

  974. and over

  975. and over

  976. and over

  977. again

  978. just as

  979. Jesus

  980. told Peter

  981. there

  982. how many

  983. times

  984. should I

  985. forgive

  986. my

  987. brother

  988. seven

  989. times

  990. no doubt

  991. he was

  992. puffed up

  993. and thinking

  994. aren't I

  995. generous

  996. and Jesus

  997. took the

  998. wind out of

  999. his sails

  1000. when he

  1001. said

  1002. not seven

  1003. times dude

  1004. seventy

  1005. times seven

  1006. now you're

  1007. starting to get

  1008. the picture

  1009. I

  1010. I

  1011. am excited

  1012. about that

  1013. day

  1014. but I

  1015. do walk

  1016. in fear

  1017. because I

  1018. know

  1019. sometimes

  1020. I'm not

  1021. that wise

  1022. son

  1023. and so

  1024. father we

  1025. just come

  1026. before you

  1027. right now

  1028. seeking your

  1029. face

  1030. Lord as

  1031. we

  1032. enter into

  1033. communion

  1034. we

  1035. remember

  1036. ourselves

  1037. and how

  1038. far

  1039. we fall

  1040. short of

  1041. your glory

  1042. and we

  1043. pray that

  1044. you would

  1045. change our

  1046. hearts

  1047. Lord

  1048. empower us

  1049. to live

  1050. these

  1051. out these

  1052. commandments

  1053. of

  1054. loving

  1055. and doing

  1056. good

  1057. and

  1058. and

  1059. blessing

  1060. and praying

  1061. for those

  1062. who we

  1063. know

  1064. don't

  1065. like us

  1066. and we

  1067. know that

  1068. they didn't

  1069. like you

  1070. so the

  1071. world's

  1072. not gonna

  1073. like us

  1074. help us

  1075. to be okay

  1076. with that

  1077. Lord Jesus

  1078. and help

  1079. us to

  1080. that you

  1081. would fan

  1082. that flame

  1083. of our

  1084. love

  1085. in these

  1086. day last

  1087. days

  1088. when the

  1089. love of

  1090. many

  1091. is

  1092. growing

  1093. cold

  1094. and so

  1095. Lord now

  1096. as we

  1097. have the

  1098. elements

  1099. in our

  1100. hand

  1101. and we

  1102. we

  1103. remember

  1104. your

  1105. body

  1106. that was

  1107. broken

  1108. displaying

  1109. your

  1110. great

  1111. love

  1112. for

  1113. us

  1114. and

  1115. you

  1116. forgave

  1117. those

  1118. who

  1119. tore

  1120. your

  1121. flesh

  1122. and

  1123. pierced

  1124. it

  1125. with

  1126. the

  1127. nails

  1128. Lord

  1129. and

  1130. the

  1131. spear

  1132. and

  1133. the

  1134. and

  1135. those

  1136. Judean

  1137. thorns

  1138. that went

  1139. on your

  1140. head

  1141. as a

  1142. crown

  1143. and you

  1144. forgave

  1145. and you

  1146. let it

  1147. go

  1148. and you

  1149. turn

  1150. the other

  1151. cheek

  1152. Lord

  1153. we

  1154. take

  1155. that

  1156. as a

  1157. as a

  1158. memory

  1159. but also

  1160. Lord

  1161. we

  1162. we desire

  1163. it as

  1164. your

  1165. people

  1166. to be

  1167. like

  1168. you

  1169. so thank

  1170. you for

  1171. that

  1172. sacrifice

  1173. Lord

  1174. help us

  1175. to be

  1176. willing

  1177. to lay

  1178. it down

  1179. just as

  1180. you did

  1181. for greater

  1182. love has

  1183. no one

  1184. than this

  1185. that he

  1186. would lay

  1187. down his

  1188. life for

  1189. his friends

  1190. Lord

  1191. and you

  1192. did it

  1193. for us

  1194. so we

  1195. hold this

  1196. bread

  1197. before you

  1198. Lord

  1199. we

  1200. thank

  1201. you

  1202. for

  1203. it

  1204. pray

  1205. that

  1206. you

  1207. would

  1208. bless

  1209. it

  1210. as

  1211. we

  1212. partake

  1213. and

  1214. remember

  1215. your

  1216. broken

  1217. body

  1218. for us

  1219. in Jesus

  1220. name

  1221. let's

  1222. partake

  1223. likewise

  1224. you

  1225. took

  1226. the

  1227. cup

  1228. and

  1229. you

  1230. told

  1231. him

  1232. Lord

  1233. that

  1234. this

  1235. is

  1236. my

  1237. blood

  1238. that

  1239. is

  1240. shed

  1241. for

  1242. you

  1243. Lord

  1244. that

  1245. it

  1246. truly

  1247. washes

  1248. us

  1249. clean

  1250. from

  1251. that

  1252. that

  1253. anger

  1254. and

  1255. that

  1256. hatred

  1257. that

  1258. can

  1259. so

  1260. just

  1261. stack

  1262. up

  1263. and

  1264. fester

  1265. up

  1266. in

  1267. our

  1268. hearts

  1269. Lord

  1270. would

  1271. you

  1272. remove

  1273. it

  1274. Lord

  1275. with

  1276. the

  1277. cleansing

  1278. power

  1279. of

  1280. your

  1281. precious

  1282. blood

  1283. Lord

  1284. as

  1285. we

  1286. remember

  1287. you

  1288. Lord

  1289. being

  1290. willing

  1291. to

  1292. be

  1293. poured

  1294. out

  1295. as

  1296. a

  1297. drink

  1298. offering

  1299. for

  1300. us

  1301. and

  1302. so

  1303. Lord

  1304. just

  1305. bless

  1306. this

  1307. cup

  1308. as

  1309. we

  1310. partake

  1311. and

  1312. we

  1313. remember

  1314. the

  1315. washing

  1316. that

  1317. took

  1318. place

  1319. and

  1320. may

  1321. it

  1322. wash

  1323. over

  1324. our

  1325. minds

  1326. and

  1327. hearts

  1328. Lord

  1329. as

  1330. we

  1331. remember

  1332. you

  1333. Lord

  1334. and

  1335. maybe

  1336. even

  1337. remember

  1338. some

  1339. of

  1340. those

  1341. who

  1342. we

  1343. would

  1344. consider

  1345. enemies

  1346. Lord

  1347. and

  1348. we

  1349. lift

  1350. them

  1351. up

  1352. to

  1353. you

  1354. praying

  1355. your

  1356. blessing

  1357. upon

  1358. their

  1359. lives

  1360. Lord

  1361. that

  1362. they

  1363. would

  1364. come

  1365. to

  1366. know

  1367. you

  1368. Lord

  1369. that

  1370. they

  1371. wouldn't

  1372. depart

  1373. from

  1374. this

  1375. life

  1376. not

  1377. knowing

  1378. the

  1379. king

  1380. of

  1381. kings

  1382. and

  1383. the

  1384. lord

  1385. of

  1386. lords

  1387. their

  1388. great

  1389. sacrifice

  1390. for

  1391. their

  1392. sin

  1393. Lord

  1394. so

  1395. deliver

  1396. them

  1397. deliver

  1398. them

  1399. from

  1400. themselves

  1401. and

  1402. from

  1403. the

  1404. world

  1405. and

  1406. from

  1407. the

  1408. devil

  1409. and

  1410. Lord

  1411. we

  1412. just

  1413. praise

  1414. you

  1415. for

  1416. that

  1417. precious

  1418. blood

  1419. that

  1420. offers

  1421. us

  1422. that

  1423. eternal

  1424. cleansing

  1425. of

  1426. our

  1427. hearts

  1428. from

  1429. this

  1430. sin

  1431. in

  1432. Jesus

  1433. name

  1434. bless

  1435. the

  1436. cup

  1437. let's

  1438. all

  1439. stand

  1440. shall

  1441. we

  1442. Lord

  1443. Jesus

  1444. we

  1445. just

  1446. thank

  1447. you

  1448. for

  1449. this

  1450. impossible

  1451. command

  1452. and

  1453. so

  1454. may

  1455. you

  1456. do

  1457. that

  1458. which

  1459. is

  1460. impossible

  1461. with

  1462. God

  1463. in

  1464. each

  1465. one

  1466. of

  1467. us

  1468. this

  1469. week

  1470. Lord

  1471. as

  1472. we

  1473. go

  1474. about

  1475. not

  1476. being

  1477. ashamed

  1478. of

  1479. the

  1480. name

  1481. that

  1482. is

  1483. above

  1484. every

  1485. name

  1486. Lord

  1487. knowing

  1488. that

  1489. that

  1490. one

  1491. day

  1492. is

  1493. coming

  1494. soon

  1495. Lord

  1496. help

  1497. us

  1498. to

  1499. lift

  1500. up

  1501. our

  1502. head

  1503. in

  1504. these

  1505. days

  1506. Lord

  1507. when

  1508. it

  1509. seems

  1510. to

  1511. be

  1512. so

  1513. out

  1514. of

  1515. control

  1516. around

  1517. the

  1518. world

  1519. and

  1520. even

  1521. in

  1522. our

  1523. country

  1524. Lord

  1525. help

  1526. us

  1527. to

  1528. not

  1529. get

  1530. full

  1531. of

  1532. rage

  1533. but

  1534. may

  1535. we

  1536. be

  1537. full

  1538. of

  1539. your

  1540. Holy

  1541. Spirit

  1542. in

  1543. Jesus

  1544. Holy

  1545. Name

  1546. Amen

  1547. God

  1548. bless

  1549. you

  1550. guys

  1551. have

  1552. a

  1553. great

  1554. week

  1555. in

  1556. Jesus

  1557. Thank you.

  1558. Thank you.
