“Reach Out to Jesus” - Sept 14, 2025 - Pastor Scotty Brown

Speaker 1: I've been accused of being a slackard.

Speaker 1: So I've been a couple weeks.

Speaker 1: But you know, I was thinking about it.

Speaker 1: And there was a reason when Pastor Joe came and spoke, I was at a rodeo Bible camp.

Speaker 1: And at that rodeo Bible camp, I teach six times in four days.

Speaker 1: And it's quite a marathon.

Speaker 1: Always kicks my tail.

Speaker 1: but the fruit that we see from, it's just awesome.

Speaker 1: But on Sunday, I do a morning chapel for all the families.

Speaker 1: So, Grandma's and Grandpa's come, and moms and dads come,

Speaker 1: and so I'm able to share the gospel with them.

Speaker 1: And afterwards, my wife, Connie, her first cousin, Holly, her grandson, her grandson,

Speaker 1: was there at rodeo Bible camp.

Speaker 1: And we had a great time visiting with Holly and her husband Harold over the years.

Speaker 1: We haven't been real close, but we run into each other, ran into him at a state volleyball

Speaker 1: term in a couple of years ago.

Speaker 1: And every time we do, you know, family funerals, Harold's just, he's my kind of guy.

Speaker 1: I grew up here in Idaho Falls, a football player, right?

Speaker 1: He was a Tiger Grizz football fanatic.

Speaker 1: He loved that game and actually caught a winning touchdown in a pretty big rival.

Speaker 1: game. So we have a lot of time where we talk and enjoy each other. And it was just, it was awesome.

Speaker 1: I mean, my, my, my, Connie's cousin, Holly, she had lost part of her foot to AR, you know, R.A.

Speaker 1: Yeah, I get those mixed up all the time. Ritort arthritis, right? And so she showed me some

Speaker 1: pictures of her foot and it was just this huge pus pocket. And they had to cut it off. And

Speaker 1: and so she pulled her shoe out of her foot and I go, let me see that.

Speaker 1: and so I'm checking her foot out

Speaker 1: and getting up close and personal.

Speaker 1: Well, that was on Sunday, on Thursday.

Speaker 1: Her daughter texts Connie and said,

Speaker 1: Mom died.

Speaker 1: And she's only three years older than me.

Speaker 1: And so yesterday morning,

Speaker 1: Connie and I took off and we ran over to Richfield

Speaker 1: and did her service.

Speaker 1: And they did it in the Richfield High School.

Speaker 1: The gym was packed.

Speaker 1: And I got to share the gospel with those folks.

Speaker 1: And so it was, it's incredible what God's doing.

Speaker 1: And he doesn't waste anything, even my, me being a slackered.

Speaker 1: So last Sunday, right, Alan Frizzell was here.

Speaker 1: And so I'm usually, you know, pretty intensely studying in the morning before service and all that.

Speaker 1: And I get up pretty early.

Speaker 1: And about 5.30, I get a text on my phone from a kid that had been in our school.

Speaker 1: and had kind of a tragic introduction to this boy.

Speaker 1: I got a call one morning from the school

Speaker 1: that a father of some of our students had died

Speaker 1: and he was still laying in bed.

Speaker 1: And so me and Pastor Gordon go running over there.

Speaker 1: The police officers were still there.

Speaker 1: The morgue wasn't there yet.

Speaker 1: And the mom asked me, she said,

Speaker 1: would you come in to the bedroom with me

Speaker 1: and help my kids say goodbye to their dad?

Speaker 1: 30 years old, laying there dead.

Speaker 1: And this boy, 10 years old, he crawled up on his dad's chest and just laid there and wept.

Speaker 1: It was one of those heartbreaking things I'd ever seen in my life.

Speaker 1: I was just like, oh my gosh, why am I experiencing this?

Speaker 1: And so they came into our school and got to hear about Jesus.

Speaker 1: And this kid is now 26.

Speaker 1: And he texts me, he says, hey, Scotty.

Speaker 1: He says, I need to be delivered and I need to be baptized.

Speaker 1: And I said, meet me at the boat dock at 8.30.

Speaker 1: This was last Sunday morning.

Speaker 1: And he goes, okay, I'll be there.

Speaker 1: Now, he's telling me he wants to be delivered because he had been messing around.

Speaker 1: As a little boy, he had been messing around with the goat of Mendez.

Speaker 1: It's a sign of Satan.

Speaker 1: And he said it impacted him when he was seven years old.

Speaker 1: And so I'm thinking, if this kid has been messing with the occultic stuff,

Speaker 1: there is no way he's going to show up at that boat dock.

Speaker 1: Because Satan will detour him.

Speaker 1: And I'm sitting there and it's getting pretty close to 8.30 and I'm looking,

Speaker 1: and I'm looking to see what he's driving.

Speaker 1: And pretty soon, here he comes.

Speaker 1: He pulls in, gets out of his car.

Speaker 1: I go up and I give him a hug.

Speaker 1: And I just start crying.

Speaker 1: I just start crying.

Speaker 1: And, but I had to run to the office and get something first on the way there.

Speaker 1: And I, because what was last Sunday?

Speaker 1: September 7th.

Speaker 1: Right?

Speaker 1: September 7th.

Speaker 1: Today's September 14th.

Speaker 1: And so I was running around there and I'm flipping through my desk and all of a sudden this

Speaker 1: bookmark flips up and I grab it and look at it.

Speaker 1: And it's my grandpa.

Speaker 1: This is my grandpa.

Speaker 1: He's got a blue cowboy hat on.

Speaker 1: and it's my grandpa and it's his obituary and i looked and i said it says uh jesse gilbert jones

Speaker 1: 91 of filer passed away tuesday september 7th 2004 what are the chances right okay 1 365 right

Speaker 1: but still i'm just going today's september 7th so i go down there i should i i i you know

Speaker 1: know, and we talk, and I said, Tate, you got to die, man.

Speaker 1: You got to die to yourself and live for Jesus.

Speaker 1: And that's what we're doing with this baptism.

Speaker 1: You're going down under the water.

Speaker 1: You're dying to yourself.

Speaker 1: And you're going to come up and you're going to walk in the newness of life.

Speaker 1: And you're going to be an ambassador of Christ.

Speaker 1: And so we did.

Speaker 1: And we get out of the water, and I show him this.

Speaker 1: and he looked at my grandpa's obituary and he goes,

Speaker 1: Tate Martin died on September 7th.

Speaker 1: Right?

Speaker 1: He got it.

Speaker 1: He got it.

Speaker 1: And so, so I was slacking, yes, because I wasn't here.

Speaker 1: But the Lord was using this bonehead because I'm like that guy that, you know, that pastor that didn't want to preach one Sunday.

Speaker 1: So he had his, had his assistant preach for him.

Speaker 1: And he goes to the golf course.

Speaker 1: And he's just, he is killing it.

Speaker 1: He's under par.

Speaker 1: And on the 18th, he hits a hole in one.

Speaker 1: He hits a hole in one.

Speaker 1: And the story goes that there's a conversation in heaven that, you know, Peter looks at the Lord and goes, what are you doing?

Speaker 1: What are you blessing this guy for?

Speaker 1: Right?

Speaker 1: Having the best golf game he's ever had.

Speaker 1: Hits a hole in one on the 18th hole.

Speaker 1: And he goes, who's he going to tell?

Speaker 1: If you have a Bible, would you turn to Luke chapter 8?

Speaker 1: Reaching out for Jesus.

Speaker 1: Buck to Heester reminded me that we had Charlie Kirk here in 2023 that led into a lawsuit.

Speaker 1: Out West has been getting sued for the last two and a half years.

Speaker 1: because of that and how things went down.

Speaker 1: But anyway, you can go on YouTube and see just punch in Charlie Kirk at Out West Bible Church on YouTube.

Speaker 1: And you can listen to the dialogue.

Speaker 1: My brother Rick was here with Charlie.

Speaker 1: And it was a good event that we had with him.

Speaker 1: I don't know that there is a person in the world that our time.

Speaker 1: articulated the truth better than Charlie Kirk, right? He's he he he's not Jesus, but God is using this boy's death,

Speaker 1: right, to move the masses around this little terra firma ball we live on called the earth, right? I don't know if you see what's going on in London, Italy.

Speaker 1: It's just, it's wild what God is doing. Hey, listen, do you think he might be getting his bride ready?

Speaker 1: to come and get her.

Speaker 1: And so just keep your ear tuned for a trumpet.

Speaker 1: And because I think that we're going to see stuff

Speaker 1: in the coming days that are just absolutely incredible.

Speaker 1: And it's the hand of God moving up on people.

Speaker 1: Because one thing about, you know,

Speaker 1: this really hit me at the funeral yesterday,

Speaker 1: was death is powerful.

Speaker 1: Right?

Speaker 1: death is powerful. And the power that it has over us, you and I, is that when we look into the

Speaker 1: face of death, you and I personally are helpless. We're helpless, right? We can't stop it.

Speaker 1: We don't want loved ones to die. We can't even stop our own when our number is up. It's just a

Speaker 1: powerful thing. And yet has been swallowed up by this king that we call Jesus, right? Death has been

Speaker 1: swallowed up in victory, it says, oh, death where is your sting? Oh, grave, where is your victory? And so that's

Speaker 1: kind of a bittersweet thing because, you know, we still deal with it. This side of the veil, right? This side of

Speaker 1: time. But in eternity, it's no big deal. And so,

Speaker 1: God's going to use that. He's going to use it powerfully. And because I'm thinking that Charlie's blood is crying out.

Speaker 1: Right? You remember when Abel came, killed Abel, and he says, your brother's blood cries out to me.

Speaker 1: Right? As a witness against you. And the blood of Jesus Christ cries out. But it's the only thing that can wash us clean. So just keep

Speaker 1: that in mind today as we as we look at this here in Luke chapter 8 we're going to read i'm just going to

Luke 8 · chapter mention

Speaker 1: read through this real quick well that's i usually fudge when i say that because i don't read very fast

Speaker 1: but we're going to start in verse 40 uh like i said i entitled this message reaching out to jesus

Speaker 1: and it says and so it was when jesus returned and the multitude welcomed him for they were all

Speaker 1: waiting for him and behold there came a man named yirus

Speaker 1: and he was a ruler of the synagogue, and he fell down at Jesus' feet and begged him to come to his house,

Speaker 1: for he had an only daughter about 12 years old, or 12 years of age, and she was dying.

Speaker 1: But as he went, the multitude thronged him.

Speaker 1: Now, a woman having a flow of bud of 12 years who had spent all her livelihood on physicians

Speaker 1: could not be healed by any, came from behind and touched the border of his garment,

Speaker 1: and immediately her flow of blood.

Speaker 1: stopped and Jesus said, who touched me. When all denied it, Peter wrote, and those with him said,

Speaker 1: Master, the multitudes strong impress you and you say who touched me? And Jesus said, somebody touched me,

Speaker 1: for I perceived power going out from me. And when the woman saw that she was not hidden,

Speaker 1: she came trembling and falling down before him, she declared to him in the presence of all the people

Speaker 1: the reason she had touched him and how she was healed immediately.

Speaker 1: And he said to her daughter, be of good cheer.

Speaker 1: Your faith has made you well.

Speaker 1: Go in peace.

Speaker 1: And while he was still speaking, someone came from the rulers of the synagogue's house,

Speaker 1: saying, your daughter is dead.

Speaker 1: Do not trouble the teacher.

Speaker 1: But when Jesus heard it, he answered him saying,

Speaker 1: Do not be afraid, only believe, and she will be made well.

Speaker 1: And when he came into the house, he permitted no one to go in except Peter.

Speaker 1: James and John and the father and mother of the girl. Now all wept and mourned for her, but he said,

Speaker 1: do not weep. She is not dead, but sleeping, and they ridiculed him knowing that she was dead,

Speaker 1: but he put all them outside, took her by the hand, calling and called saying, little girl arise,

Speaker 1: and then her spirit returned, and she rose immediately, and he commanded that she be given

Speaker 1: something to eat. And her parents were astonished, but he charged them to tell

Speaker 1: no one what had happened. Let's pray. Lord, thank you. Thank you that you've come. Lord,

Speaker 1: you've come to heal our wounds. You've come to make us whole. You've come to raise us from the dead,

Speaker 1: so to speak. Lord, that we were lost and dead in our sins and trespasses. And you have come to give us

Speaker 1: life. And so, Lord, as we look at this truth that we see in these two people's lives, Lord,

Speaker 1: may we be able to, Lord, apply it to our own.

Speaker 1: and realize that you, Lord, you're no respecter of persons.

Speaker 1: Lord, you've come from everyone.

Speaker 1: Lord, you're that propitiation for not just our sins, but the whole world.

Speaker 1: And so we glory in that.

Speaker 1: And we thank you for that.

Speaker 1: And we love you for that.

Speaker 1: In Jesus' name. Amen.

Speaker 1: Okay.

Speaker 1: So here he is.

Speaker 1: This multitude, right, is waiting for Jesus on the seashore.

Speaker 1: Now you remember where he's coming from, right?

Speaker 1: He's coming from the dude that was demon possessed with the legion, you know,

Speaker 1: that had the first account of deviled ham there.

Speaker 1: And anyway.

Speaker 1: And so they're hearing all these things that Jesus is doing, you know.

Speaker 1: The masses begin to seek him.

Speaker 1: And they're waiting for him as he returns from this exorcism

Speaker 1: because he's been displaying his power, right?

Speaker 1: he displayed it over the demons.

Speaker 1: He displayed his power over the wind and the waves.

Speaker 1: His power to heal.

Speaker 1: And so they're waiting for him.

Speaker 1: And in verse 41 and 2, it says there that he, it says,

Speaker 1: and behold, there came a man J. Iris,

Speaker 1: and he was a ruler of the synagogue and fell down at Jesus' feet.

Speaker 1: and begged him to come to his house,

Speaker 1: for he had only had an only daughter about 12 years old

Speaker 1: and was, she was dying.

Speaker 1: And so here's this guy from the synagogue.

Speaker 1: Do you remember the people that were having the problem with Jesus?

Speaker 1: Do you got a problem with Jesus?

Speaker 1: Right?

Speaker 1: A lot of people have a problem with Jesus.

Speaker 1: You know, that's why I think so much,

Speaker 1: Charlie Kirk's words angered so many people

Speaker 1: because he talked about Jesus.

Speaker 1: right that Jesus is

Speaker 1: Jesus is the most important thing

Speaker 1: right

Speaker 1: he's the most important thing

Speaker 1: and

Speaker 1: and this this ruler

Speaker 1: this teacher

Speaker 1: of the synagogue comes to Jesus

Speaker 1: and falls at his feet

Speaker 1: now a lot of the rulers were

Speaker 1: wanting to kill him right

Speaker 1: they're there in Nazareth they marched him

Speaker 1: to the brow of the hill and they were going to chuck him off

Speaker 1: right because he quotes the prophet Isaiah and he says

Speaker 1: day in you're hearing, this prophecy is fulfilled. And they're like, oh, who does he think he is?

Speaker 1: Well, he knew who he was. Right? And then when he heals the man's hand in the temple there,

Speaker 1: he says, stretch forth your hand, and he heals him. He says, you can't do that on the Sabbath.

Speaker 1: Or the disciples, you know, thrashing grain in their hand and pop it in him out. Oh, you can't do that on

Speaker 1: the Sabbath. They didn't like him. I wonder if Jay Iris was one of those. But that had a

Speaker 1: a turn of heart, all the sudden, this human need overwhelms people. They forget all about the law,

Speaker 1: right? Because this synagogue leader, this religious man, he didn't need his religious law right then

Speaker 1: because it could do nothing for him. He needed somebody that could fix his problem and the law

Speaker 1: couldn't do that. All the law could do is point out his problem. Dude, you got a problem. Sorry,

Speaker 1: you're on your own. That's what the law does. And the law is good in that because it's perfect.

Speaker 1: It perfectly exposes us for what we are and shows us what we need. And so he was desperate.

Speaker 1: He was desperate for Jesus. The older I get, the more I realize that it's important.

Speaker 1: for me to be desperate for Jesus. You desperate?

Speaker 1: Right? Just desperate. I am desperate for him every day. My wife buys this milk cow.

Speaker 1: This is going to affect me.

Speaker 1: We didn't think she is pregnant. We put her with the bull. We go get her two months after she's

Speaker 1: with the bull and I'm going, oh my gosh, she looks pregnant. But it was pregnant from last year.

Speaker 1: She's getting ready to calf. She has a calf.

Speaker 1: Guess who has to milk her?

Speaker 1: I told my wife, I said, honey, I marched in our bedroom the other morning.

Speaker 1: I said, honey, I have not read my Bible in two days because of you.

Speaker 2: Because of your milk cow.

Speaker 2: I was desperate for Jesus. I need to be in his word.

Speaker 2: I'm a pastor for crying out loud.

Speaker 2: Not a dairyman.

Speaker 1: Well, I guess I'm both, but

Speaker 1: But I need to be desperate for him.

Speaker 1: You need to be desperate for him

Speaker 1: To speak to your heart

Speaker 1: Because his words are spirit and their life

Speaker 1: And if you don't put him in, what are you living on?

Speaker 1: Right?

Speaker 1: And so

Speaker 1: the people, the religious people, were having a hard time with this Jesus character,

Speaker 1: but they had heard what he was doing.

Speaker 1: And when they heard the power that he had,

Speaker 1: he had already raised the woman's son at Nane and he'd stilled the sea and the wind.

Speaker 1: No doubt this guy got, thinks, okay, if this guy can really do that,

Speaker 1: I need to put it to the test.

Speaker 1: And he falls at his feet absolutely desperate for him to fix his.

Speaker 1: his problem, the death of his daughter. There's that helplessness that I just talked about. In the face of

Speaker 1: death, we are helpless. Watching people die is a wild thing, right? It's just when they take that last breath.

Speaker 1: It's so powerful. And we can't help them and we can't fix them. We can't bring them back.

Speaker 1: And so he comes to Jesus and he falls down.

Speaker 1: So Jesus obliges him, right?

Speaker 1: He starts on his track, but it's so crowded.

Speaker 1: The masses are so big.

Speaker 1: They're pressing in upon Jesus and the people around him.

Speaker 1: And so then there comes this woman kind of trying to mess yourself through this traffic jam.

Speaker 1: And it says, and having a flow of blood for 12 years who had spent all her livelihood on physicians

Speaker 1: and could not be healed by any, came from behind and touched the border of his garment,

Speaker 1: and immediately her flow of blood stopped.

Speaker 1: So here's another desperate person coming to Jesus, reaching out to Jesus.

Speaker 1: Right?

Speaker 1: she's desperate because she's been hemorrhaging for 12 years.

Speaker 1: When my mom gave birth to my younger brother, Rick, she uterine prolapsed.

Speaker 1: And so for the next five or six years before she had a hysterectomy, my mom would get all dolled up.

Speaker 1: And she was a looker back in the day and go to her job.

Speaker 1: She worked in a bank, and she would get all cleaned up and nice and get to the car and her shoes would be full of blood.

Speaker 1: and so she had this this constant problem that she dealt with for about five years think of this woman right spend in all of her livelihood it almost appears that she's alone

Speaker 1: and maybe was a woman of questionable character we don't know some commentators think she was a a gentile

Speaker 1: because she was unclean because of this constant flow of blood right women on their menstrual cycle the law had them to separate themselves for seven days

Speaker 1: so she wouldn't have been allowed to be around a rabbi, let alone touch him.

Speaker 1: We don't know that for sure, but some believe that that could be the case here.

Speaker 1: But notice her what her desperation caused her to do, to just reach out and just like in her

Speaker 1: desperate, if I can just touch his clothes, right?

Speaker 1: It appears that she wants to be incognito, doesn't want to be found out.

Speaker 1: right?

Speaker 1: That she's really seeking Jesus.

Speaker 1: I know a lot of people like that.

Speaker 1: They're kind of seeking Jesus,

Speaker 1: but they don't want anybody to know about.

Speaker 1: I can talk about Jesus to you, but no one else.

Speaker 1: Right?

Speaker 1: But she, so she kind of wants to be,

Speaker 1: and immediately, as soon as she touched the hem of his garment,

Speaker 1: boom.

Speaker 1: She could feel it.

Speaker 1: She's healed.

Speaker 1: It's a problem.

Speaker 1: story.

Speaker 1: And the garment, the hem of the garment in the old time was kind of interesting.

Speaker 1: You know, the priest, they had the tassels and the blue thread, the four tassels and the blue

Speaker 1: thread that went around their hem, speaking of authority.

Speaker 1: And you remember when David snuck in when Saul was pooping.

Speaker 1: you remember that and he and he cuts off the corner of his robe and then david gets afraid oh no

Speaker 1: i just i just cut the hem of the garment of the king of israel god's anointed he was afraid he thought

Speaker 1: oh man god might smite me in the babylonian world the hymn was a powerful symbol for the man and the woman a man

Speaker 1: could actually cut the hymn of his wife's garment if he wanted to divorce. And if it was cut,

Speaker 1: that meant he divorced her, had that authority. And so she comes. Well, I'm just going to read that

Speaker 1: verse to you there about the garment in Numbers chapter 15, verses 38 and 39. It says,

Numbers 15:38

Speaker 1: speak to the children of Israel. Tell them to make tassels on the corners of their garments throughout their

Speaker 1: and to put a blue thread in the tassels of the corners.

Speaker 1: And you shall have the tassel that you may look upon it.

Speaker 1: Listen to this.

Speaker 1: Look upon it and remember all the commandments of the Lord and do them.

Speaker 1: And that you may not follow the harlot tree to which your own heart and your own eyes are inclined.

Speaker 1: Oh, that people would take that to heart.

Speaker 1: Right?

Speaker 1: That when they looked at the hem of the garment and they saw these things,

Speaker 1: tassels and that blue thread, it reminded them what, of God's word?

Speaker 1: Which is the greatest authority in existence is the power of God's word.

Speaker 1: Some would actually take the hem of their garment and press it into clay and it would become their seal, actually.

Speaker 1: back in ancient times.

Speaker 1: But just know this.

Speaker 1: Jesus has the authority to heal your wounds,

Speaker 1: forgive your sin,

Speaker 1: and raise you from the dead.

Speaker 1: That's the authority that he's got.

Speaker 1: So it's really important to reach out to him,

Speaker 1: reach for him, reach for the hymn of his garment.

Speaker 1: Now there's something really interesting here that,

Speaker 1: and some of you caught probably.

Speaker 1: How old was the girl?

Speaker 1: How long had the woman been bleeding?

Speaker 1: Twelve years, right?

Speaker 1: I think there's something to this

Speaker 1: because usually if something is repeated,

Speaker 1: there's something to it.

Speaker 1: If the woman was in fact Gentile, right?

Speaker 1: And the young girl is Jewish.

Speaker 1: Obviously, her dad's a part of the synagogue.

Speaker 1: She's a daughter of Jerusalem.

Speaker 1: And in the Old Testament, the daughter of Jerusalem or the daughter of Zion or the daughter of Israel

Speaker 1: refers to Israel as a nation.

Speaker 1: Right?

Speaker 1: And a Gentile woman would be picturesque of what?

Speaker 1: The church.

Speaker 1: Right?

Speaker 1: The church.

Speaker 1: Jesus gets this call to come and heal this little Jewish girl or actually heal Israel.

Speaker 1: And on his way, he encounters this.

Speaker 1: gentile woman that pictures his church on his way to deal with the death of, if you will,

Speaker 1: Israel. That's why we're here. Do you get that? We are his Gentile bride. He's on his way

Speaker 1: to restore the nation of Israel and he does it during the seven-year tribulation period.

Speaker 1: That's what that period is for, is for the people and the city of Jerusalem and the people of Israel.

Speaker 1: That's what that specifically is for.

Speaker 1: He's on his way and he gathers up his Gentile bride.

Speaker 1: Folks, I'm thinking it's coming really soon.

Speaker 1: Are you ready?

Speaker 1: Right?

Speaker 1: He's going to call his bride out.

Speaker 1: And so, but the number 12 in the Bible symbolizes God's power, his authority and

Speaker 1: completeness, right?

Speaker 1: The church is the 12 apostles.

Speaker 1: Israel is the 12 tribes.

Speaker 1: It's his symbol of,

Speaker 1: of governance and prominence, and we see both of them in the millennial reign.

Speaker 1: Just a side note.

Speaker 1: And this woman is healed, and Jesus goes, verse 45, and Jesus said, who touched me?

Speaker 1: Who touched me?

Speaker 1: When all denied it, Peter and those with him said,

Speaker 1: master, the multitude strong impress you,

Speaker 1: and it means to squeeze violently.

Speaker 1: And you say, who touched me?

Speaker 1: But Jesus said, somebody touched me, for I perceive power going out from me.

Speaker 1: Now, when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling and falling down before him,

Speaker 1: she declared to him in the presence of all the people, the reason she touched him,

Speaker 1: and how she was healed immediately.

Speaker 1: First of all, Jesus says, right, who touched me because I felt power, leave me.

Speaker 1: Do you realize that's why he came to give you an eye power?

Speaker 1: Right?

Speaker 1: That we, as we reach out to him, he gives us a power by His Holy Spirit, right?

Speaker 1: That we can live this life.

Speaker 1: I don't know about you, but I can't do this.

Speaker 1: I can't do this on my own.

Speaker 1: I don't have the wherewithal.

Speaker 1: I don't have the guts.

Speaker 1: I don't have the strength, the power to live the Christian life.

Speaker 1: You and I have to be helped.

Speaker 1: And if you think you're doing it on your own, you are an absolute fool.

Speaker 1: Right?

Speaker 1: You are a fool.

Speaker 1: Because the Bible talks about the power of God.

Speaker 1: And Jesus is, he's like that drink offering.

Speaker 1: He came to be poured into you and me.

Speaker 1: And this, this measly woman that didn't think herself of any importance as she reeked out and touched him,

Speaker 1: she received power from on high to be healed.

Speaker 1: How cool is that? It's awesome.

Speaker 1: When the Lord speaks to Paul on the Damascus Road, he says this to him, we don't see it, I don't think, in the early chapter,

Speaker 1: but back when he recounts it in Acts 26, verses 17 and 18, he says, now I send you, he's telling Paul this,

Acts 26:17

Speaker 1: now I send you to open their eyes in order to turn them from darkness to light, from the power of

Speaker 1: Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are

Speaker 1: sanctified by faith in me.

Speaker 1: He says, well, I'm going to call you, Paul.

Speaker 1: I'm going to empower you to go out and turn people who are under the power of Satan to the power of God.

Speaker 1: Do you have that in your life?

Speaker 1: It tells us, it tells us, Jesus tells us, he says, listen, ask for it.

Speaker 1: Ask for the Holy Spirit.

Speaker 1: Will not the Father give it to you?

Speaker 1: And, you know, that's when he does the whole contrast with the, boy, I ask you for a piece of bread.

Speaker 1: You're not going to give him a rock.

Speaker 1: Here, kids, you're on the rock.

Speaker 1: Right?

Speaker 1: A loving father doesn't do that.

Speaker 1: No, he butteres it and puts a jetty on it.

Speaker 1: He says, here.

Speaker 1: It's my grandkids.

Speaker 1: Papa, I want some, I want some toast with jetty.

Speaker 1: He says, if you fathers being evil know how to give good gifts to your kids,

Speaker 1: how much more will the Lord give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?

Speaker 1: Maybe you need to ask for that today.

Speaker 1: If you're just floundering, your sin just seems to be hanging on.

Speaker 1: You can't get rid of it.

Speaker 1: The prayer team's going to come up here in just a little bit and come pray with them.

Speaker 1: tell him I need the Holy Spirit.

Speaker 1: You might need to tell them I need saved.

Speaker 1: I need to get right with Jesus.

Speaker 1: You know, it's amazing this Charlie Kirk thing.

Speaker 1: It's inspiring people to get right with Jesus.

Speaker 1: Right?

Speaker 1: Because he proclaimed that so well.

Speaker 1: Charlie said that Jesus Christ is the chairman of the board of my life.

Speaker 1: Is he yours?

Speaker 1: And then in Acts chapter,

Speaker 1: chapter 8. Jesus tells him, he says, listen, you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit

Speaker 1: comes upon you, and you shall be witnesses to me in Jerusalem, in Judea and Samaria,

Speaker 1: and to the othermost parts of the earth. Jesus came to pour his power into us. He said,

Speaker 1: that's why I have to go. And then the power will come into you guys.

Speaker 1: Verse 48 says, and he said to her daughter, be of good cheer.

Speaker 1: Your faith has made you well. Notice he calls her daughter.

Speaker 1: Another thing to note, if I back up a verse or so, what did she do?

Speaker 1: She proclaimed Jesus to the multitudes.

Speaker 1: Do you know the Jews aren't really doing that?

Speaker 1: It's a Gentile bride that does that.

Speaker 1: It's the church that proclaims Jesus to the masses.

Speaker 1: that's what Charlie was doing and that's what is going to exponentially grow from here on out among young people

Speaker 1: because they heard him declare the gospel so clearly like I said that kid articulated things like

Speaker 1: nobody's business I've I've never heard anybody speak the way he speaks and how fast he could do it

Speaker 1: he could talk fast and I mean just bam bam bam and you know I watch it

Speaker 1: several of his interviews just last, I mean, hasn't everybody?

Speaker 1: Have you watched a Charlie Kirk interview this last few days?

Speaker 1: Yeah.

Speaker 1: Yeah.

Speaker 1: And it's funny, he could just, he just machine gums him with the truth, and all they can do is drop F-bomb in response.

Speaker 1: Oh, F-Mu, that's all they could say.

Speaker 1: Wow.

Speaker 1: You know, he never cussed.

Speaker 1: He never threw a punch.

Speaker 1: I'm sorry.

Speaker 1: That could never be my colleague.

Speaker 1: because I wouldn't get past the first guy on the microphone.

Speaker 1: I'll pray for you when you're in the hospital.

Speaker 1: I'll come see you.

Speaker 1: Listen, Jesus is our power source.

Speaker 1: And our job is to activate that power by faith.

Speaker 1: and people tell me, well, Pastor, I don't have that kind of faith.

Speaker 1: Well, who does?

Speaker 1: Right?

Speaker 1: I mean, really, think about it.

Speaker 1: I love the dude in Mark chapter 9 in verse 23, right?

Speaker 1: He's the dude with the demon-possessed son.

Speaker 1: And he's going, Jesus, and he's been like this from childhood

Speaker 1: and I'm helpless.

Speaker 1: And so Jesus comes and he says,

Speaker 1: Jesus said to him,

Speaker 1: if you can believe,

Speaker 1: all things are possible to him who believes.

Speaker 1: Check the dude out.

Speaker 1: He says,

Speaker 1: immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears,

Speaker 1: Lord, I believe, help my unbelief.

Speaker 1: You ever feel like that?

Speaker 1: I believe, but help my unbelief.

Speaker 1: I'm a little shaky here.

Speaker 1: Because we got these things called eyes, and it's like we need to see.

Speaker 1: I got to see.

Speaker 1: If I see, I'll believe.

Speaker 1: Jesus calls us just the opposite, right?

Speaker 1: No, believe, and you'll see.

Speaker 1: Believe, and you'll see.

Speaker 1: And so he goes on, and they come to him in verse 49, and they say, I got to get back,

Speaker 1: there. They come to him in verse 49 and say, while he was still speaking, someone came of the

Speaker 1: ruler of the synagogue's house saying to him, your daughter is dead. Do not trouble the teacher.

Speaker 1: I'm wondering, you know, people say the stupidest things sometimes. Especially in the face

Speaker 1: when somebody passes, you know? I remember a guy getting so fired up. I mean,

Speaker 1: he was so mad, a dad so mad, had lost a 30-year-old boy,

Speaker 1: and he was so mad, and somebody walked up to him and said he's in a better place.

Speaker 1: And that dad said, he's not in a better place.

Speaker 1: His best place is right here with me.

Speaker 1: It's a bet when people lose loved ones, right?

Speaker 1: They're not overly rational, right?

Speaker 1: But people feel like they have to talk.

Speaker 1: If you go up to somebody who's lost a loved one, don't say anything.

Speaker 1: Put your arm around them.

Speaker 1: Cry with them.

Speaker 1: You know, pray for them.

Speaker 1: them. But don't try to explain stuff, right? I think well-meaning people can be so offensive.

Speaker 1: No words is good. Right? It's the whole Abraham Lincoln thing, right? I'd rather be silent and

Speaker 1: thought a fool than to speak up and remove all doubt.

Speaker 1: She's dead, right? Don't trouble the teacher. Obviously, they didn't know who Jesus was, right?

Speaker 1: I love Jesus' response in verse 50. He says, but when Jesus heard it, he answered him saying,

Speaker 1: Don't be afraid. In other words, don't listen to those guys. Only believe, and she will be made well.

Speaker 1: Don't listen to them. Listen, don't listen to the world, the flesh, and the devil. Listen to Jesus.

Speaker 1: He says that to us as well, right?

Speaker 1: Just listen to me.

Speaker 1: And folks, we're living in a time where that's sketchy.

Speaker 1: People go online to try to find the words of Jesus.

Speaker 1: I wouldn't do that if I'd you.

Speaker 1: Here, get one of these.

Speaker 1: right have a hard copy

Speaker 1: sit down read it

Speaker 1: let the Lord speak to your heart and he will

Speaker 1: you can focus on the words in red

Speaker 1: gospel of John has the most of them

Speaker 1: and you'll be safe

Speaker 1: but with technology and what people are doing

Speaker 1: and the things they can change in the AI

Speaker 1: I mean just AI with the Charlie Kirk thing

Speaker 1: They're saying, oh, George Strait did this, and I'm thinking, that ain't George Strait, right?

Speaker 1: Or Alan Jackson did this for the show.

Speaker 1: That's not Alan Jackson.

Speaker 1: Right?

Speaker 1: I know my country singers.

Speaker 1: I say, wear a cowboy hat like me.

Speaker 1: But they, in that culture, they had these professional mourners, and they would come,

Speaker 1: and mourn, and especially if there were people of affluence, they would come and mourn because they'd get

Speaker 1: paid to do it. And when he came to the house, verse 51, he came into the house. He permitted no one to go in

Speaker 1: except Peter, James and John, and the father and mother. He kicked everybody else out. You guys get out

Speaker 1: here, right? You're weeping and wailing and carrying on. And Jesus knew what he was going to do. And

Speaker 1: right? It's interesting. Peter James and John, why is that? It's like, were they elevated above those other guys?

Speaker 1: I mean, Peter was a bonehead, right? He sunk in the, when he got out of the boat, he stuck his foot in his mouth, right?

Speaker 1: And Jesus had to tell him, Satan, get behind me, right? He denied the Lord, he cut his ear off.

Speaker 1: And James and John, they just wanted to be like Elijah. Can we call fire down from heaven and kill these people that won't come to you?

Speaker 1: He's just like

Speaker 1: And Jesus

Speaker 1: You guys don't know what spirit you're up

Speaker 1: Now obviously he turned all of their passions

Speaker 1: Towards himself

Speaker 1: And James and Peter were some of the first to go

Speaker 1: Right

Speaker 1: John had to hang around a while

Speaker 1: But

Speaker 1: But he

Speaker 1: He stops him

Speaker 1: And

Speaker 1: And he says to him in verse 52

Speaker 1: now all wept and mourned for her, but he said, do not weep. She is not dead, but sleeping.

Speaker 1: And they ridiculed him knowing that she was dead. These guys had been around a lot of dead people.

Speaker 1: They knew she was dead. She wasn't just asleep or in a comatose state. She was dead.

Speaker 1: Now, I think some people might use this as a, you know, a reference for soul sleep. There's certain churches that teach soul sleep.

Speaker 1: but the Bible doesn't teach that.

Speaker 1: The Bible does not teach soul sleep,

Speaker 1: that the body and the soul sleep in the grave until the resurrection.

Speaker 1: Right? No, the body goes into the grave

Speaker 1: and gently decays

Speaker 1: until the resurrection.

Speaker 1: And then whatever's left of that at the resurrection,

Speaker 1: we know that the dead in Christ rise first,

Speaker 1: as it says in 1st Thessalonians chapter 4,

Speaker 1: And then Jesus actually believes, says those who sleep in Jesus,

Speaker 1: and the sleep is referring to their physical death, right?

Speaker 1: But they are with him when he comes.

Speaker 1: And that's what it says in 2nd Corinthians, chapter 4, verse, excuse me,

Speaker 1: chapter 5, verses 4 through 8.

Speaker 1: If you have a Bible, turn there real quickly with me.

Speaker 1: It was in today's reading through the Bible.

Speaker 1: And I think it's something that we're,

Speaker 1: especially us gray hairs are all looking forward to.

Speaker 1: It says in verse four of chapter five of second Corinthians,

Speaker 1: for we who are in this tent,

Speaker 1: that's a reference to the body, grown,

Speaker 1: being burdened not to because we want to be unclothed,

Speaker 1: but further clothed.

Speaker 1: That mortality may be swallowed up by life.

Speaker 1: Now he who has prepared us for this very thing,

Speaker 1: thing is God, who also has given us his spirit as a guarantee. So we are always confident knowing that

Speaker 1: while we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord. For we walk by faith and not by sight.

Speaker 1: We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.

Speaker 1: And so when this separation comes, right, you're in the presence of the Lord. And people say, well, yeah, but you're

Speaker 1: sleeping. Really? Have you ever read Luke 16? Right? Then these two dead guys are having a conversation.

Speaker 1: Abraham's been dead for hundreds, thousands of years, right? And the rich man had just died.

Speaker 1: And they're both conscious and they're both talking and having a conversation.

Speaker 1: And Abraham's telling him, he says, listen, dude, you're in a place of judgment. And there's this

Speaker 1: great gulf fix between me, you and me. You can't come to me. I can't go to you.

Speaker 1: to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.

Speaker 1: And so when our loved ones leave this life,

Speaker 1: they're either looking at the face of Jesus, right?

Speaker 1: Or they're in a place of torment, just the way it is.

Speaker 1: You either believe it or you don't.

Speaker 1: That's what the Bible teaches.

Speaker 1: So this girl was, her body was dead.

Speaker 1: Where did her spirit go?

Speaker 1: Did it just hover?

Speaker 1: Some think that it did.

Speaker 1: You know, some, the old-time rabbis believed that the spirit would hover over the body for a certain amount of time before it took off.

Speaker 1: I don't know.

Speaker 1: Never been there?

Speaker 1: Haven't done that.

Speaker 1: But for believers, it's just like falling asleep.

Speaker 1: Pastor Justin's actually going to teach on Acts 7 tonight, Stephen.

Speaker 1: when they stone him, right? He just falls asleep.

Speaker 1: That's no big deal for the believer.

Speaker 1: That's why I said the other night, Charlie's just fine.

Speaker 1: It's everybody else that's all undone.

Speaker 1: But this girl had come to the end and Jesus was going to do something big.

Speaker 1: And he told him, only believe.

Speaker 1: But he put the...

Speaker 1: them all outside, took her by the hand, saying, little girl arise. Then her spirit returned,

Speaker 1: and she rose immediately, and he commanded that she be given something to eat, and her parents were

Speaker 1: astonished. But he had charged them all to tell no one that this had happened. Tolitha Kumi

Speaker 1: arise. This was going to do for us if we're in the grave. If not, it's just going to be do-do-do-do-do-do.

Speaker 1: right? A trumpet sound. A flash of lightning. Right? And we'll be changed in a moment in the twinking

Speaker 1: of an eye. And I can't wait. But he tell him, don't tell him yet. It hadn't, wasn't time for him to be

Speaker 1: revealed as the Messiah. But now it is. Right? Now it is. And it's our call, you and I.

Speaker 1: And he encourages them to give her something to eat, and the parents were absolutely astonished.

Speaker 1: That can be translated.

Speaker 1: They were actually out of their mind with glee that their daughter was alive.

Speaker 1: But that's what Jesus does.

Speaker 1: When you come to him, he can fix the problem.

Speaker 1: He fixes what's wrong.

Speaker 1: He exchanges life for death.

Speaker 1: And so you think about those who say they walk with Jesus,

Speaker 1: but then the way they speak and the way they live are totally different.

Speaker 1: That is, you know, Jack Hib was talking about this the other day.

Speaker 1: It's totally, you know, it's just not appropriate for a Christian to live the way they live.

Speaker 1: And yet, so what they say and what they do are two different.

Speaker 1: things. What do you call that? Hypocrisy, right? And people hate it. I hate hypocrisy. I hate to see a

Speaker 1: hypocrite. I hate hypocrisy in me. Because sometimes I'm not so faithful, right? But we have a very short

Speaker 1: time, I think, folks. And it's time to reach out to Jesus and to be desperate for him and to grab a hold.

Speaker 1: grab a hold of his garment.

Speaker 1: It was appropriate on Wednesday.

Speaker 1: After we heard the news, I was teaching through Zechariah chapter 8.

Speaker 1: And the last verse of Zachariah 8 really kind of jumped out and grabbed me.

Speaker 1: And if you have a Bible, I'm just going to close with this really quick.

Speaker 1: But in Zachariah, he, I think Zachariah just fell out of my Bible.

Speaker 1: but he's talking about the millennial reign in the millennial reign and the millennial reign is the

Speaker 1: the thousand-year reign of Jesus right and this is after Jesus restores the Jewish people right

Speaker 1: establishes them a third of them make it through the tribulation period and and they're part of

Speaker 1: the the people in the flesh that actually help populate the earth during

Speaker 1: the thousand-year reign of Christ. And in this passage of Zechariah chapter 8, verse 23,

Speaker 1: notice what it says. Just one verse. It says, thus says the Lord of hosts. That's the Lord of

Speaker 1: armies, the commander-in-chief. It says, in those days, listen, 10 men from every language of the

Speaker 1: nations shall grasp the sleeve of a Jewish man saying,

Speaker 1: let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.

Speaker 1: They grab them by the sleeve, these people of the nations say, hey, we heard that God's with you.

Speaker 1: Can we go with you?

Speaker 1: We want to go with you.

Speaker 1: And I was thinking, man, if you applied that to us, the church, which we're apart, right?

Speaker 1: We're grafted in.

Speaker 1: We're apart.

Speaker 1: We know God.

Speaker 1: And people this week might be grabbing you by the sleeve.

Speaker 1: saying, I hear you know God.

Speaker 1: I see that you pray.

Speaker 1: I see you got Bible verses on your car or tattooed on your arm or whatever.

Speaker 1: And, of course, I thought about Charlie.

Speaker 1: Right?

Speaker 1: He was only hours gone from this earth.

Speaker 1: He had millions hanging on to his sleeve.

Speaker 1: Right?

Speaker 1: Millions hanging on to his sleeve.

Speaker 1: Let me ask you something.

Speaker 1: Who's on your sleeve?

Speaker 1: your sleeve? Who's grabbing you by the sleeve saying, hey, I know that you know God. Is your life

Speaker 1: that bold that people know that you know God? Or they grabbing you by the sleeve and go,

Speaker 1: how do I get saved? How do I get right with God? Because I think, listen, folks, the pickens are

Speaker 1: ripe, right? The fields are white unto harvest simply because of what happened Wednesday.

Speaker 1: Because Jesus invites everybody to come to him.

Speaker 1: Come, all you who are weary and heavy laden.

Speaker 1: I will give you rest.

Speaker 1: But will you come?

Speaker 1: Be like this woman.

Speaker 1: She proclaimed it in front of everybody.

Speaker 1: What Jesus had just done for her.

Speaker 1: It's powerful.

Speaker 1: No doubt the parents probably weren't too quiet.

Speaker 1: And so I'm going to ask if the prayer team would come up here and Buster's going to come close with the song.

Speaker 1: And while he's singing, if you need prayer, if you need to come to Jesus, if you don't need to know how to get right with God, you come forward.

Speaker 1: And these people will lead you.

Speaker 1: They can make that clear for you.

Speaker 1: It's in Revelation chapter 22, the last verse I want to read.

Speaker 1: Give us boldness in these days, Lord, that time is short, Lord.

Speaker 1: So may we lift our heads knowing our redemption draws near.

Speaker 1: Be with your people and bless them in Jesus' name.
