  1. Alright, so the first lesson was the need for

  2. prayer and dependence on God. Okay, we're now

  3. coming to the end of our second lesson to them,

  4. which is which God considers great versus what

  5. man's consideration of great is. But before these

  6. instructions, instructs them on this again, he

  7. reminds them that he is is the model of the truly

  8. humble person. One that puts others above self.

  9. And that was a great example we just had. Right?

  10. I mean, to get up, to give your seat. For Erica

  11. to take a back seat. But that was a great example.

  12. Perfect timing, right? The son of man is willingly

  13. giving himself for them. The cross, which he

  14. has not declared how he would die yet, was the

  15. most humiliating, the most humble way to die.

  16. Jesus did know that the cross was coming. He

  17. knew the way. Should the disciples have known

  18. that? Probably, because the Old Testament talked

  19. about the crucifixion. I think it's in Psalms.

  20. where it talks about the crucifixion. So they

  21. should have known that, but it was something

  22. that they weren't even thinking about. Something

  23. that was way above what they were thinking about.

  24. In verse 30, Mark tells us that they travel through

  25. well -known areas and he wants to be quiet or

  26. secretive when he goes through. So he's making

  27. this trip, and that again is where he's wanting

  28. to spend his time with these disciples. He's

  29. not wanting to draw the crowds or anything. So

  30. most scholars believe that he is going on the

  31. outskirts of Galilee as he makes his descent

  32. down. And it says in Mark 9 .30, he did not want

  33. anyone to know. Another clue to a private ministry.

  34. So on the trip from Caesarea to Philippi, they

  35. come to Capernaum. They had been arguing about

  36. who would be the greatest. And again, Capernaum

  37. said they came to a house, more than likely this

  38. was Andrew and Peter's house, because that was

  39. the main hub where they ministered. Before it

  40. was a well known, so that was a good place to

  41. kind of stop off on his way through. Again, we

  42. see these He's moving through and as he mentions

  43. these areas he won't mention any more until after

  44. the crucifixion. So these areas are the last

  45. time and I'm sure that had an impact on Jesus

  46. moving through these areas knowing that he wouldn't

  47. see these people again until after the resurrection,

  48. the ministries that he had had here. So I think

  49. these places are mentioned. sometimes because

  50. of that. They were talking about, so yeah, ask

  51. what are they arguing about. They were arguing

  52. about who would be the greatest. That was another

  53. clue that they believed Jesus was setting up

  54. his kingdom at that time. You know, they're coming

  55. to Jerusalem and they're discussing. It could

  56. be even Peter. James and John that brought up

  57. this conversation because if you remember they

  58. were just on that mountain trend transfiguration

  59. not to Probably not too many days before this

  60. maybe a couple weeks before this So they're kind

  61. of maybe still on their high horse They've seen

  62. that something that these others have not seen

  63. but they weren't able to tell you know select

  64. There's all kinds of possibilities, but anyhow

  65. that was that was the discussion It wasn't talked

  66. about with Jesus, but he probably overheard.

  67. A spirit ordained time. Again, Jesus capitalized

  68. on the opportunity to talk about who is truly

  69. great in God's eyes. He doesn't bash them for

  70. thinking, but instead he's going to give a visual

  71. lesson or an example. He doesn't bash them for

  72. thinking about Who is the greatest? And something

  73. else. Does God condemn greatness? No, He doesn't

  74. condemn greatness. He redefines greatness. What

  75. greatness is in God's eyes. It's not what, it's

  76. not what man's. Yes, Eddie. Can you hear? Yeah,

  77. I can't hear. I can hear everybody. Did you see

  78. there's a fly over there? No, no, no. I'm fine

  79. because I cracked them up. I'm good. I'm good.

  80. I'm telling you. We can put you right here. I'm

  81. telling you. You don't want me to do it. OK.

  82. You can hear that. Thank you. I can hear fine.

  83. I turned it up. I'm good. Thank you. All right.

  84. So he's going to give them a visual lesson. So

  85. let's read our text. In verse 30 of Mark 9, it

  86. says, they went on from there and passed through

  87. Galilee, and he did not want anyone to know,

  88. for he was teaching his disciples, saying to

  89. them, the Son of Man is going to be delivered

  90. into the hands of men, and they will kill him.

  91. And when he is killed, after three days he will

  92. rise. But they did not understand the saying,

  93. and were afraid to ask him. And they came to

  94. Capernaum, and when he was in the house, he asked

  95. them, what were you discussing on the way? But

  96. they kept silent, for on the way they had argued

  97. with one another about who was the greatest.

  98. You know, again, You can it's it's almost like

  99. this person was there It's almost like a personal

  100. testimony You know and we know again that Peter

  101. Mark Mark is is got his information from Peter

  102. who was actually there and witnessed all this

  103. so that's why it sounds like it because mark

  104. never really Walked with Jesus. He's probably

  105. seen that he never really walked with, and he

  106. wasn't one of his disciples per se, but he got

  107. all his information from Peter. Why do you think

  108. Mark wrote this gospel and not Peter? Because

  109. Peter had his own gospel to write. Not gospel,

  110. but his own letter. I don't know, that's a good

  111. question. I don't know the answer to that. What

  112. you're saying is that the writer here was eyewitness

  113. of this. He was writing from what he saw himself.

  114. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It seems like that, yeah. And

  115. Dory's asking why did he not write this instead

  116. of Mark. Yeah. Maybe he couldn't see very well.

  117. He was older. Possibly. It's in the thought that

  118. this is close to the first one of the first first

  119. uh gossips let's do it i mean historians think

  120. so relations was probably the first book yeah

  121. but this would be yeah it was closed and uh so

  122. i don't know right now either peter is already

  123. dead no no this was written no it was still alive

  124. One of the reasons we think that is it's not

  125. until John that we learn that Peter was the one

  126. that actually went and cut Malchus' ear off and

  127. almost certainly because Peter was dead by that

  128. point they already John says that at the end

  129. of his gospel in chapter 21 that the Lord prophesied

  130. his death right so his death was already known

  131. in the church. He was already dead by the time

  132. John wrote his Gospel. So he could publicly say

  133. it was Peter, whereas these Gospels don't say

  134. it. Because they didn't want you to know. Because,

  135. yeah, he's still alive. He could get in trouble

  136. for that. Only the people there in the gardens.

  137. I mean, at that time, I saw him. Those who were

  138. close by. They weren't worried about him at that

  139. point. He was a little bit healed. Oh, you're

  140. correct. I think another point about that is,

  141. I think that was somewhat of a rhetorical question,

  142. him asking that. He knew what they had been talking

  143. about. Oh yeah, yeah. Yeah, he did. But he was

  144. just trying to see if they would admit it. Yeah,

  145. that's right. Bring up that conversation because

  146. it's a good teaching. And the Spirit does that.

  147. I think the Spirit orchestrated a lot of these.

  148. Yeah, like the Spirit orchestrates, oftentimes

  149. He'll orchestrate times when we can bring Christ

  150. into the conversation. And a lot of times, if

  151. it's with unbelievers, we shy back. But I think

  152. the Spirit orchestrates. I was thinking about

  153. when we do communion a lot of times. We don't

  154. meet before that, but we start talking about

  155. it, and next thing you know, a lot of our minds

  156. is going towards the same point, the same. But

  157. this is a great opportunity for Jesus to teach

  158. on greatness. It's also, I think, interesting

  159. that Mark, who at first was kind of at odds with

  160. Paul about this. the second missionary journey,

  161. Paul said, you're not going to take it. This

  162. doesn't mean that Mark was cast away and never

  163. used, because he was used to write one of the

  164. gospels. I think Paul wasn't very fair to Mark.

  165. I don't think he did that situation very well.

  166. In the end, he reconciled, and the scripture

  167. gives us reconciliation. Paul asked for John

  168. Mark. I think he asked for John Mark toward the

  169. end of his life. So that shows us that he had

  170. reconciled with Mark. And it is easy to put people

  171. up on pedestals. especially Paul. It was easy.

  172. And he was admitting, I think, there that he'd

  173. made a mistake in doing that. You know, I mean,

  174. they make mistakes. You know, Peter, Peter's

  175. one that's known for making the most mistakes,

  176. probably, because he was the most vocal, right?

  177. one of the loudest voices about who was the greatest.

  178. And he wasn't totally baseless either. I mean,

  179. he's one of the three. I thought one of the favorites.

  180. Yeah, there was four of them that were really

  181. close to Jesus. You know, he often talked about

  182. favorites. I know. You know, and Peter was one

  183. of them. He's always mentioned first. You know,

  184. yeah. I'm sure he had a... I'm sure he had a

  185. big head. He was the first one to speak, you

  186. know, when, I'm not, you know, you're not gonna

  187. wash my feet. You're right, Peter. You know,

  188. all of them have the same idea, but Peter's the

  189. one that vocalizes. So. He had to speak on the

  190. mountain. I was chugging when I said, he said

  191. this because he didn't know what else to say.

  192. Yeah. We would all be quick to drop the dead

  193. weight though. We'd all be quick to drop the

  194. dead weight. These guys were on a mission. You

  195. rely on everybody. And yeah, Mark was a young

  196. man. Not totally committed to the cause. Yeah,

  197. he pooped out and dropped out. And that was some

  198. serious stuff, man. And these guys need to get

  199. moving. They had stuff to do. And you're dead

  200. weight. You're not reliable. And I really don't

  201. have time for foolishness. And that was just

  202. flat, young, young kid. foolishness right there.

  203. And then you have a true mentor, you know, who

  204. saw what needed to be done and slowed their self

  205. down and said, I'll take Mark with me. Now that

  206. didn't keep the first guy from getting them,

  207. you know, what he needed to get done because

  208. he got moving like he usually does. But then

  209. the second guy is like, okay. Come on in here.

  210. Let's try this again. You know? Mark was Ken

  211. to Barnabas. So that's who he went with. And

  212. I can see the connection. Barnabas wanting to

  213. include him in the ministry. I mean, you know,

  214. I want to encourage Brian in his teaching. And

  215. Matt and Nick, I want to encourage them. I can

  216. see Barnabas kind of kind of pushing his way.

  217. I mean, that's our human nature, you know? And

  218. you can see Paul not wanting to wait around.

  219. Yeah, yeah. He needed to get boogey. Paul seems

  220. like, to me, he was kind of a hard man. He had

  221. to be. He had to be, kind of, for all the abuse

  222. that he took. He was very serious. Oh yeah. He

  223. was serious. Real serious. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah,

  224. but he'd been taught by Jesus. I never understood

  225. that. Why was Paul, why did Jesus come to him

  226. later in life? I mean why was Paul so special

  227. that he got all this extra time with Jesus by

  228. himself and the 12 disciples? had to fight over

  229. who could get attention with Jesus. Why was that?

  230. Because of the Gentile people, I think. His ministry

  231. was specifically to the Gentile people. These

  232. other Jews had their ways. If you remember Peter

  233. over toward Acts 11 or 12, when Peter gets this

  234. vision, he don't want to have anything to do

  235. with... With the Gentile people remember that

  236. Jesus I already died before Paul came on the

  237. scene Yeah, because yeah, so that doesn't make

  238. sense I mean he doesn't do that with us. He doesn't

  239. come and Paul was called being a possible and

  240. one of the qualifications of a possible Since

  241. the Lord had already died, he couldn't be. So

  242. the Holy Spirit wasn't good enough? Sending the

  243. Holy Spirit like the rest of them? He was called

  244. for a special purpose. But he did go to the Jew

  245. first. I mean, he made that qualification because

  246. the Jew was first, and then the Gentiles. But

  247. his ministry was to the Gentiles. There's no

  248. doubt. And the others, I don't know if they didn't

  249. have a heart or couldn't get a heart for that.

  250. Yeah. Yeah, it was a culture. It was built into

  251. the culture. And Paul, I think, had a, what was

  252. it, a Gentile grandmother? He was both Jew and

  253. Gentile. Somebody, somebody. Which makes which

  254. makes his ministry to Gentiles Maybe that two

  255. years he spent in the desert. There's a lot of

  256. wrassling. I'm sure there's a lot of wrassling

  257. going on there. Because he not only gave Barnabas

  258. a hard time, but he gave people a hard time.

  259. Oh yeah, he called them out. That takes a lot

  260. of... It's all in the name of the study group.

  261. That's right, we're inquiring. I'm inquiring.

  262. Now we're listening, you teach. Well, I'm inquiring,

  263. yeah. Okay, I think we got down to first, what,

  264. 34? 31? 34. I didn't finish the text yet. And

  265. he took a child and put him in the midst of them,

  266. and asking him, and taking him in his arms, he

  267. said to them, whoever receives one such child

  268. in my name receives me. And whoever receives

  269. me, receives not me, but him who sent me." So

  270. that was all review. That's all the things that

  271. we've talked about. We talked more in depth as

  272. we went through, starting in verse 35. It says,

  273. and he sat down and called the twelve. Notice

  274. first that it's not a casual conversation. So

  275. Jesus is sitting down with him and what's he

  276. talking about? What's he talking about? He's

  277. talking about this awareness. Because this was

  278. the question, if you remember, that he asked.

  279. You know, what were you discussing on the way

  280. down? He knew. He knew what they were discussing.

  281. Somebody said that. Bob said that, I think. So

  282. he sits down. So this is no casual conversation.

  283. Jesus makes it clear that he's going to teach.

  284. because he sits down. That was the proper thing

  285. for a rabbi to do. So when he got ready to teach,

  286. he would take his seat. Now, I don't know if

  287. the disciples would sit or they would stand.

  288. I couldn't find anything on that. They would

  289. stand around him or they would sit around him

  290. or whatever. But rabbis would often sit symbolizing

  291. their authority. as would a king sit on his throne

  292. to impart wisdom. That was a common thing. And

  293. I also noticed Jesus singles out his 12 disciples.

  294. It says that he sat down and called the 12, signifying

  295. their role in his ministry or his leadership.

  296. I would not have noticed that if I had not been

  297. brought up by R .C. Sproul, which was a good

  298. point. He called the 12, which again, that talks

  299. about his private ministry that he had there.

  300. But also we know that there was kids running

  301. around in that house, because we're going to

  302. see where he pulls one of them. The disciple

  303. of the rabbi often lived with them, learning

  304. their ways of studying, working, and living.

  305. They would try to imitate the rabbi and to come

  306. like him. just as we do with Jesus. It's an interesting

  307. note from what I understand through Jewish history.

  308. There were no women rabbis. That would be when

  309. Jesus was and before. But in 1935, there was

  310. the first woman rabbi that was ordained in Germany.

  311. And in 1972 in America, the first woman right

  312. rabbi was recognized I thought that was that

  313. was interesting because I I wondered about that

  314. you know so I looked at it but anyway that's

  315. just a side note that's interesting just as these

  316. disciples lived with Jesus we live with him too

  317. for he lives with us and we learn from him right

  318. we read his word And we try to imitate him, right?

  319. I mean, that's why we read the scriptures, to

  320. learn to be more like him, to imitate him as

  321. much as we can, to try to think like he would

  322. think. Now, there's no way possible, right? We

  323. understand that we can't possibly think like

  324. God thinks or like Jesus thinks, but we try to

  325. get that. That's the main point though, isn't

  326. it? Through the Holy Spirit. I mean, constant

  327. growth to get to that level. When you have God

  328. withdrawing, you know, withdrawing you. That

  329. is the main point, is to absolutely get the 100

  330. % emulation of the mindset of Jesus. Yeah, and

  331. when we do that, we can share with others. Not

  332. only share, but people will see that in us. People

  333. watch you whether you know it or not. People

  334. watch you. All things are possible, right? That's

  335. right. All things are possible with Him. That's

  336. right. We live with Jesus. We study His words.

  337. We try to do what He would do. We want to please

  338. Him. And He knows our heart. That's what he's

  339. looking at. He's looking at the heart. He's not

  340. looking at the outside He wants to look at he

  341. wants to he wants to see a heart change not an

  342. outside change we we judge people by what we

  343. see on the outside most of the time and Hopefully

  344. what's on the inside will come out eventually

  345. it will be it will be made known Yeah, eventually.

  346. We can fool people for a long time, but we can't

  347. fool God, and He's the one that looks on your

  348. heart. We come before the throne to be taught

  349. and to ask questions for better understanding,

  350. like we were talking about this morning. To mill

  351. over things, to meditate over things when you

  352. read the scripture. That's so important. I'm

  353. learning that. how important that is more and

  354. more. And just in my, just in songs that I hear

  355. on the radio, I play 106 .9 a lot. Just in the

  356. songs and the words of the songs and I'll say,

  357. now how scriptural is that? How, you know, it

  358. makes you really think. It seems the disciples

  359. would sit also indicating their eagerness to

  360. learn. And I don't know if that, it seems like

  361. that they would. I couldn't imagine the disciples

  362. standing around. Maybe they did, in honor of

  363. the rabbi. Well, I think that Martha and Mary

  364. said she sat at his feet. Yeah, yeah. Up a room,

  365. he actually laid right up against them, right?

  366. Yeah. Well, he was climbing at the table and

  367. things like that. Just to listen to his words.

  368. Yeah. So all eyes were cast upon the rabbi. And

  369. then here comes the teaching. If anyone would

  370. be first, he must be last of all and servant

  371. of all. Again, Jesus doesn't condemn them for

  372. wanting to be great, but he tells them how to

  373. be great. He redefines greatness. They are to

  374. strive to make each other great. That's hard

  375. to do. We want to be great. And you know, I've

  376. mentioned in a couple of our other Bible studies

  377. about the upside down kingdom. And that's where

  378. this idea comes from. Everything that is counterintuitive

  379. to this world is what Jesus is teaching. This

  380. being great, making the other person great, that's

  381. not what we want to do. That's not our natural

  382. way. We want to make ourselves great. We want

  383. to be great. That's why I said, Pastor Peter

  384. said that Jesus actually turned this world right

  385. side up. The world don't see it like that, but

  386. we know that's the way it is. But it's still

  387. hard even though we know it. That's what we're

  388. to strive for. That's hard because we want to

  389. be great and in charge. True greatness of Jesus'

  390. followers is found in humble service. Humble

  391. service. to the downtrodden, to the weak. And

  392. listen to this, to those who can't return the

  393. favor. To those who can't return the favor. And

  394. again, God looks at the heart. We can't see the

  395. motives of people. You know your motives. We

  396. know our motives. I know my motives when I do

  397. things. But God is looking Look, why do we do

  398. things? Matthew 20, 25, it says, you know that

  399. the riches, you know that the rulers of the Gentiles

  400. lord over them, and their great ones exercise

  401. authority over them. It shall not be so among

  402. you, but whoever would be great among you must

  403. be your servant. and whoever would be first among

  404. you must be your slave even as the son of man

  405. came not to be served but to serve and to give

  406. his life a ransom for many. Humble service for

  407. others who we may not think deserves it or even

  408. needs it. Humble service, that's what we're to,

  409. and I think most of us, Most of us do that, especially

  410. in church and things when people come. I mean,

  411. you know, sometimes I think we run people away

  412. because we're too friendly. You know, I mean,

  413. I don't know. Don't only do good for God's people.

  414. You know, and we can be guilty of that, only

  415. doing good for God's people. but do it for the

  416. undeserving. That's what Jesus did. Jesus did

  417. that many times. He healed lepers. I mean, they

  418. didn't even thank him. These days that he would

  419. spend healing people and teaching people, most

  420. of them did not thank him or appreciate it. You

  421. know? Do it. Do it because you have a love for

  422. Jesus. That's why we do it. And a love for people.

  423. Bruce Walker said one time that this life is

  424. the only thing that some people will get. So

  425. he thinks they oughta just live it up. Because

  426. this is the best thing they're gonna get. And

  427. we ought to be gracious to people like that,

  428. thinking of them. You know what I'm saying? Maybe

  429. it's not coming out like it should. Yeah, kind

  430. of like that. But be nice for them, pray for

  431. them, earnestly pray for them. Matthew 5, 46

  432. to 48. For if you love those who love you, what

  433. reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors

  434. do the same? And if you greet only your brothers,

  435. what more are you doing than others? Do not even

  436. the Gentiles do the same? You therefore must

  437. be perfect, and that means complete or mature,

  438. as your Heavenly Father is perfect. There's a

  439. reward for the humble service, Luke 22, 27. Jesus

  440. asks the question and then answers it. For who

  441. is the great? One who reclines at the table or

  442. the one who serves? It is not the one who reclines

  443. at the table, but I am among you as the one who

  444. serves. The one who reclines is the world's view.

  445. Here again, Jesus states, he is the one who serves.

  446. In contrast to being served, Jesus again gives

  447. himself as the example. You are those who have

  448. stayed with me in my trials. Again, this is Luke

  449. 27, 28. You are the ones who have stayed with

  450. me in my trials, and I, assigned to you as my

  451. Father, assigned to me the kingdom, that you

  452. may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom.

  453. Sit on thrones judging the 12 tribes of Israel

  454. It seems as they drove as they drew closer to

  455. the cross Very close Jesus assures them of a

  456. reward awaiting for them for their steadfastness

  457. to the end So there's a reward at the end So

  458. don't don't think this life is all that there

  459. is. There's a reward in this life. You don't

  460. have to wait till the end. What is that reward?

  461. That reward is peace. Peace and joy. And things

  462. like that. Those are rewards in this life. He

  463. gives us peace here. Peace. You don't want peace

  464. in this life? I said I don't. I don't have a

  465. lot of peace in this life. There's always problems.

  466. Yeah, there's gonna be problems. But you can

  467. have peace in knowing where you're going. A lot

  468. of people can't sleep in the night. That's another

  469. reward. You can have peace. You know, Debbie

  470. has. Where's she at? I oftentimes tell her when

  471. she can't sleep, I says your conscience is bothering

  472. you. That helps you sleep better, doesn't it?

  473. That helps me sleep better. She has to work on

  474. her servitude though. It seems they could have

  475. not understood this physically. They have endured

  476. and they will have places of honor in this physical

  477. world. They will not have places on in this physical

  478. world that they were thinking, like they were

  479. thinking. So maybe they were thinking when Jesus

  480. says that, that they're going to be judged right

  481. there. It wasn't talking about a judgment, judgment

  482. there. It was the judgment to come and the peace

  483. to come. We should diligently look for opportunities

  484. to help the unbeliever or the downtrodden. If

  485. you don't have the desire to do this, pray God

  486. gives it to you. Jesus was our example. In Mark

  487. 2, 17, and when Jesus heard it, he said to them,

  488. those who are well have no need of a physician

  489. but those who are sick. I came not to call the

  490. righteous but sinners. Jesus came to serve the

  491. sick or the sinner who will repent. So again

  492. in verse mark 9 35 because the 12 and said to

  493. them if anyone Would be first he must be last

  494. of all and servant of all This is not a suggestion.

  495. It's the only way to true greatness in God's

  496. eyes It did not come to, that the Gentiles warded

  497. over you. Yeah, okay. Twenty -seven, I think

  498. it was. Anyway, that's in the upper room. And

  499. that's, you know, we've been studying that. That's

  500. that passage where Luke is the only one that

  501. makes it clear they were, here we are, you know,

  502. and this isn't the upper room yet, but this is

  503. a lesson that they had to learn repeatedly. My

  504. point is that as they were getting closer to

  505. the cross, especially after, it seems to be especially

  506. after the triumphal entry, they were, you know,

  507. the resurrection of Lazarus two months before.

  508. There's a lot of prominent Jews in Jerusalem,

  509. wealthy, well -connected people that are putting

  510. their trust in Christ and spreading the word.

  511. All these God -fearing Jews coming to Jerusalem.

  512. Passover, and they have this huge welcoming party,

  513. you know. They've decided that in several days,

  514. Jesus hammering those lawyers, hammering the

  515. Pharisees, hammering the Sadducees, putting them

  516. all in their place, you know. Yes, it's coming.

  517. Our reward is coming. Our reward is coming. What's

  518. interesting is in that context, what I haven't

  519. mentioned is that what you just read is that

  520. he does say, he does acknowledge, there are going

  521. to be twelve... 12 thrones if you're going to

  522. sit on them. There is a reward, it's just not

  523. right now. That's right. They were thinking it

  524. was right now. Their context was right now. And

  525. I put you're very close to the cross. You're

  526. right. They're very close to the cross. They

  527. didn't understand that physically. They were

  528. that close to the cross. They were thinking they

  529. were that close to their kingdom. To the kingdom

  530. being established to them. And them being sitting

  531. up there judging. Yeah. You're right. You're

  532. right. Very good. I think that's what we're going

  533. to end, because it's almost this time after.

  534. So we'll pick up. You know, there's one other

  535. thing that struck me. I don't know if we can

  536. get to 36 yet, but they took a child and sent

  537. before them. And I've been thinking a lot about

  538. that lately, that God loves the people that we

  539. look past. And there's a lot of them. there's

  540. a lot of just people undeserving people that's

  541. right well all of us children children are some

  542. of the some of the easiest not lily i don't ignore

  543. her at all honey i don't know what your problem

  544. is yeah there's a just i'm saying in general

  545. there was a there was a cultural difference too

  546. because children had a very high And it was not

  547. a lot of, and we'll talk about this next time,

  548. but there's not a lot of emphasis put on small

  549. children because they wasn't beneficial to the

  550. family. That was the reason, really, to have

  551. large families. I mean, they had large families

  552. to where they could be beneficial, right? To

  553. work the stove. Right. We were talking this morning,

  554. and that's what made me think of it, about the

  555. war for women. You know, I was talking this morning.

  556. We won't go into that conversation again. We'll

  557. talk about it. We're just property. You already

  558. got the gist of it, of our conversation this

  559. morning. Anyhow. Anyhow. What did you guys say?

  560. Yeah, you're worth two pounds. Alright, yeah,

  561. sorry. Okay. But be careful. Through wisdom,

  562. I mean, you can try to get up every morning and

  563. say, I'm gonna be the lowliest. I'm gonna be

  564. the servant of all. I'm just gonna really...

  565. Don't exhaust yourself on the swine. I mean,

  566. be wise in your decision. See if there is some...

  567. desire from the person. Because after a while

  568. you can just exhaust yourself on somebody who

  569. is not worthy of your time. I mean, I've seen

  570. it, where you just exhaust yourself. I'm making

  571. a little servitude, you know, servitude. There's

  572. many lost souls out there who need to hear the

  573. gospel. And that person is rejecting. Move to

  574. somebody else and cast the pearls to them. It

  575. takes a lot to see that in a person. When do

  576. you see that? Well, that's up to the Holy Spirit.

  577. But don't just go into everything thinking you're

  578. going to be the lowliest. I don't think. Just

  579. slowly walk all over me lowly. I mean, you've

  580. got something precious that needs to be shared.

  581. And there's a certain amount of time that you

  582. share it and you see no, you know, nothing coming

  583. back at all as far as the desire to learn this

  584. move. The thing I think is pointed out here though,

  585. we've got to have a heart, a humble heart. You

  586. know, it's not that we've become a doormat or

  587. anything like that, but where is your heart?

  588. You know, some people... Some people don't have

  589. a heart of service. They want to be served all

  590. the time You know and it was like these disciples,

  591. you know and they were growing Something Jesus

  592. had you know, there's other areas in our lives

  593. that Jesus needs to needs to point out when you

  594. read the scriptures or something like that Yeah,

  595. we don't we don't want to waste our time But

  596. we want to have a heart of service You know,

  597. that's That's what he's looking at. He looks

  598. at the heart. He knows, he knows our hearts.

  599. I think I'm kind of like the disciples at the

  600. well, you know, I have to go eat. Yeah. You know?

  601. Yeah. Where it takes that real maturity. Yeah.

  602. To, to battle the flesh. Yeah. Beat your flesh

  603. and style for that woman at the well. Yeah. It

  604. just comes through a lot of maturity. All that

  605. was, all that was teaching. And that's what we're

  606. learning as we read these stories. And as we

  607. put them into practice every day. And Jesus wasn't

  608. a doormat. Many times he'd present the gospel

  609. and if somebody didn't like the rich young ruler.

  610. Time to go. He turned around and walked off.

  611. There was a hack about it, but he knew there

  612. was no response there. He said he was very sad

  613. about it. It doesn't beat a dead horse, so to

  614. speak. You know, if it's not there, it's not

  615. there. He presents it, and then he moves along.

  616. That's right. And that's the way with us. We're

  617. to build relationships, you know, like we're

  618. building relationships with our neighbors, especially

  619. this one back here, Pauline and Josh, and the

  620. kids. And we're working on that. You've got to

  621. work on that. Even sometimes if it's rejected,

  622. you know, you just... She told us she didn't

  623. want to have anything to do with the gospel or

  624. anything like that. Didn't want anything to do

  625. with church. Okay, we can live with that. Let's

  626. just be friends. And now we see, after two years,

  627. we see a softening. You don't have to push the

  628. gospel down. You just have to be the example.

  629. And that's what God... It's cool to see them

  630. at priority. That's what God wants us to be the

  631. example. He wants us to be a living testimony.

  632. And that's what we do. Not for our own glory,

  633. right? Because we can very easily say, okay,

  634. they don't want it. Let's move on. Nice. We've

  635. got a heart for people, especially people that

  636. is right around us. So, Jesus looks at the heart.

  637. I think that's what this whole thing is, the

  638. humility. Not being uppity -up, oh, I'm better

  639. than you, you know. Anyhow. Yes, Heavenly Father,

  640. what a bonanza of a weekend. I'm just so thankful.

  641. I know everybody here is just so thankful for

  642. the fellowship, the people that we're trying

  643. to connect, trying to bring to you. I've often

  644. heard her say it, but I'll say it now. I can't

  645. recall where it was, but God wants us to bring

  646. the heart to Him, and then we're to let God do

  647. the work. We're not there to try to push what

  648. we think a person should be doing. I just get

  649. on my knees and thank you for all this wonderful

  650. fellowship, connection, good preaching, good

  651. preaching this morning. That is joy. I've had

  652. a lot of joy speaking. I just thank you for that.

  653. I think so many times people miss the little

  654. snippets of joy that if they had their eyes open

  655. and maybe did some more study in the scripture

  656. or whatever, they would recognize that you're

  657. just, you're bountiful with your joy. Just thank

  658. you so much. Thank you for the learning. I had

  659. a woman that I... We did an AB class together.

  660. She had four or five people in Charlotte and

  661. she talked about the scholarship of the study.

  662. There's a lot of scholarship here. I'm so appreciative

  663. of the hard work that people put in and then

  664. they're willing to give to us. So I just praise

  665. you for that. And again, we just ask for guidance,

  666. ask for safety, and ask to do your will. And

  667. we ask this in Christ's name on that. Amen. Thank

  668. you.
