  1. Joshua chapter 10.

    Joshua 10 chapter mention

  2. >> [clears throat]

  3. >> I'm going to give you everything I got

  4. this morning and uh

  5. I think we'll make it through all right.

  6. I want to talk to you this morning on

  7. this thought. I want to preach on this

  8. thought for just a little bit this

  9. morning when God fights for you.

  10. When God fights for you.

  11. Joshua chapter 10 and I'm going to pray

    Joshua 10 chapter mention

  12. and ask the Lord to help us today.

  13. And then we'll jump in and

  14. look at our text. Father,

  15. >> [clears throat]

  16. >> in Jesus name, Lord, we come before you

  17. this morning and I need your help.

  18. Uh Lord, I pray that you would help us

  19. today as we open the word of God and and

  20. preach what you have laid on our hearts.

  21. Lord, the text that is before us is a

  22. practical text.

  23. It's one that will help us if we allow

  24. it to. I pray that you would take the

  25. word of God and apply it to the hearts

  26. of the people of God.

  27. Lord, I don't want this to be about me.

  28. I don't want them to to think of how

  29. good of a preacher I am or or how good

  30. of a sermon this is or how good of an

  31. outline this is, but Father, may it may

  32. it all do one point to one goal. May it

  33. all point to Jesus. May it all point

  34. people to you.

  35. I pray that your word would not return

  36. void this morning, but that it would be

  37. exactly what your people need to hear.

  38. That they would we would take it with us

  39. when we leave. We take this message,

  40. apply it to our hearts, and live by it.

  41. Help my voice, Lord, that I might be

  42. able to present your word in in a way in

  43. the best way that I can. Lord, your word

  44. is worthy to be preached and delivered

  45. um to the very best of our ability. And

  46. I just pray that you'd help me to do

  47. that this morning and I'll give you the

  48. glory and the praise for all that you're

  49. going to do. I ask these things in Jesus

  50. name. Amen.

  51. We come to Joshua chapter 10 this

    Joshua 10 chapter mention

  52. morning. The nation of Israel has been

  53. successful in its conquest so far.

  54. They have conquered the city of Jericho.

  55. They then went and conquered the city of

  56. Ai. There was a sin in the camp. You

  57. remember the sin in the camp and they

  58. had to take care of Achan and the sin

  59. and then they went back and they were

  60. able to defeat Ai. And more recently, we

  61. looked at 2 weeks ago, the Gibeonites

  62. entered into the camp and they deceived

  63. Joshua and the children of Israel into

  64. believing that they were from a far

  65. country, that they were from far away.

  66. Well, Joshua and the Israelites don't

  67. pray about it. They don't seek God's

  68. counsel and they enter into a league.

  69. They enter into a covenant with the

  70. Gibeonites, who are their next door

  71. neighbors. Now, this was contrary to

  72. what God had commanded. And because they

  73. did not pray, they uh now were bound by

  74. an agreement. They were now bound by a

  75. covenant. The covenant with the

  76. Gibeonites was twofold. It had two

  77. parts.

  78. First of all, the Gibeonites agreed to

  79. be the servants of Israel. By entering

  80. into this agreement, they were agreeing

  81. to be uh the servants, the slaves of

  82. Israel.

  83. Additionally, the Israelites were

  84. agreeing to protect the Gibeonites.

  85. Uh they were agreeing to if anyone was

  86. to attack the Gibeonites, then the

  87. nation of Israel was going to be there

  88. to protect them and defend them. So,

  89. it's a twofold covenant.

  90. It's an interesting narrative that you

  91. and I are getting ready to read here in

  92. Joshua chapter 10. I want you to think

    Joshua 10 chapter mention

  93. about this for a moment by way of

  94. introduction. You and I are the

  95. Gibeonites.

  96. Joshua, all throughout the book, is

  97. found to be a picture of Christ. And so,

  98. think about the narrative in this way.

  99. When Joshua made an agreement with the

  100. Gibeonites, he did not know who they

  101. were. He did not know that they were

  102. their neighbors. He did not know that

  103. they were going to cause problems. He

  104. did not know who they were. But when

  105. Jesus entered a covenant with me, he

  106. knew exactly who I was. He knew I would

  107. fail him. He knew I would He knew I

  108. would run away from him. He knew I would

  109. fall. He knew I would get discouraged.

  110. He knew I was a mess up. He knew I would

  111. make mistakes. And yet Jesus still

  112. knowing who I was entered into a

  113. covenant with me. That's how much he

  114. loves me. And not only did he enter into

  115. a covenant with me, but he stands by me.

  116. He's agreed to walk with me. He's the

  117. friend that will never leave me nor

  118. forsake me. He's the one who walks with

  119. me through the valley of the shadow of

  120. death. He's the one who comes alongside

  121. and girds us up when we're discouraged.

  122. He's the one who comforts us on the dark

  123. days. He's the one who encourages us on

  124. the discouraging days. He's the one who

  125. gives us strength on the weekdays. He's

  126. the one that prepares our hearts and

  127. minds when we don't want to be a

  128. Christian anymore. When we don't want to

  129. live like a Christian anymore. When

  130. we're discouraged and we're downtrodden

  131. and we're feeling the weight and the

  132. pressure of the devil and our flesh and

  133. this world, here comes Jesus alongside

  134. of us. And if we just spend some time

  135. with our friend, he will walk with us

  136. through it all. But he's not just going

  137. to walk with you.

  138. He's going to fight for you.

  139. And that's the message that I want to

  140. talk to you about today. Is you've got a

  141. friend besides you who is fighting in

  142. your corner.

  143. Look at Joshua chapter 10 and verse

    Joshua 10 chapter mention

  144. number 14.

  145. And there was no day like unto that

  146. before it or after it after it that the

  147. Lord hearkened unto the voice of man.

  148. I want you to underline this next phrase

  149. in your Bible.

  150. For the Lord fought

  151. for Israel.

  152. The Lord fought

  153. for Israel.

  154. I want you to notice four

  155. truths this morning about when God

  156. fights for you. There are four things

  157. that are true that we find right from

  158. this text

  159. that are true when God is fighting for

  160. you. Number one,

  161. we see the adversary.

  162. Look at verse number one of chapter 10.

  163. We're just going to walk through this.

  164. I'll give you an outline as we read

  165. through this this morning.

  166. The adversary. Look at verse number one

  167. of chapter 10. Now it came to pass

  168. that when Adonizedek, king of Jerusalem,

  169. heard how Joshua had taken Ai and had

  170. utterly destroyed it as he had done to

  171. Jericho and her king, so he had done to

  172. Ai and her king, and how the inhabitants

  173. of Gibeon had made peace with Israel and

  174. were among them.

  175. That they feared greatly because Gibeon

  176. was a great city.

  177. As one of the royal cities and because

  178. it was greater than Ai and all the men

  179. thereof were mighty. It's interesting

  180. that Gibeah did not surrender to Israel

  181. because they were weak.

  182. Uh verse two tells us that Gibeah was

  183. very strong. All the men in Gibeah were

  184. mighty men. It was stronger than

  185. Jericho. It was stronger than Ai. So

  186. Gibeah did not give up because they were

  187. weak.

  188. They gave up and surrendered because

  189. they understood they could not fight

  190. against the God of Israel regardless of

  191. how strong they were.

  192. Verse number three, wherefore

  193. Adonizedek, king of Jerusalem, sent unto

  194. Hoham, king of Hebron, and Piram, king

  195. of Jarmuth, and uh Japhia, king of

  196. Lachish, and unto Debir, king of Eglon,

  197. saying, "Come up unto me and help me

  198. that we may smite Gibeon."

  199. So now they're looking at Gibeah as a

  200. traitor. Gibeah has turned their back on

  201. the land of Canaan. And Gibeah has

  202. turned around and has now joined forces

  203. with what the Canaanites view as the

  204. enemy.

  205. The nation of Israel is the enemy to the

  206. Canaanites and so Gibeah has joined

  207. forces with Israel. Therefore, now

  208. Gibeah is the enemy.

  209. And so these kings get together, they're

  210. led by Adonizedek, king of Jerusalem.

  211. And he's going to organize these five

  212. kings, this coalition of kings, this

  213. great army, and they're going to go

  214. fight not against Israel, but they're

  215. going to go fight against Gibeah.

  216. They're going to go fight against who

  217. they think these Gibeah is now the

  218. traitor. Look at verse four.

  219. "Come up unto me and help me." This is

  220. what Gibeah says

  221. to to Joshua, "Come Come up unto me and

  222. help me that we may or excuse me, this

  223. is what Adonizedek says to his coalition

  224. of kings,

  225. "Help me that we may smite Gibeon, for

  226. it hath made peace with Joshua and with

  227. the children of Israel." Verse five,

  228. "Therefore, the kings of the Amorites,

  229. the king of Jerusalem, the king of

  230. Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of

  231. Lachish, the king of Eglon gathered

  232. themselves together and went up, they

  233. and all their host and encamped before

  234. Gibeon and made war against it." Here's

  235. where we get this idea sometimes.

  236. Sometimes we think that because we're

  237. Christians and because we live in the

  238. church and because God is fighting for

  239. us, there is no enemy.

  240. Right? We can just come to church and

  241. everything's going to be just right. If

  242. I come to church and I put money in the

  243. offering plate and and I I pay my dues

  244. and I do what I'm supposed to do, then

  245. there's not going to be no enemies in my

  246. life. It's just going to be smooth

  247. sailing because I have God on my side.

  248. And that's could not be further from the

  249. truth. There are pastors and there are

  250. teachers. If my voice cracks this

  251. morning, I'm not going through puberty

  252. again, I promise. I'm just trying to

  253. preach, all right? Y'all hang with me

  254. now. I keep going back and forth. One

  255. minute I sound like I'm going through

  256. puberty, next minute I sound like I just

  257. came inside from smoking a pack of

  258. cigarettes. Y'all just I'm not done

  259. either, all right? I'm just trying to

  260. preach this morning.

  261. Sometimes in life we get this idea that

  262. man,

  263. if if I go with God, if God is for me,

  264. then nobody is going to ever oppose me.

  265. That there won't be any adversary. There

  266. won't be any enemy. Can you think about

  267. the the Gibeonites? The They look at

  268. Israel coming and they say, "We're going

  269. to make peace with Israel. And if we

  270. make peace with Israel and the God of

  271. Israel, then maybe perhaps everyone else

  272. will just be our friends." But what

  273. happens is the people who used to be

  274. their friends now turns against them.

  275. And let me tell you something, friends.

  276. When you decide to go all in with Jesus,

  277. when you decide that you're going to go

  278. with God, that you're going to surrender

  279. yourself to God, when you're going to

  280. become a part of God's people, the

  281. people who used to be your friends are

  282. going to turn against you. The people

  283. who you used to run with are now going

  284. to oppose you. The people who used to to

  285. to you used to have fun with and you

  286. used to go with and you used to enjoy

  287. their company, now all of a sudden you

  288. all have different interests and you're

  289. being pulled towards the the God, the

  290. Yahweh, the one true God, and they're

  291. still serving idols and they're still

  292. serving all the things of their past and

  293. they're still serving their flesh. And

  294. so now you are suddenly at odds with

  295. people who you used to be very close to.

  296. Gibeah was a neighbor to all of these

  297. kings.

  298. They were friends. They joined

  299. coalitions together

  300. in times past, but now Gibeah is the

  301. traitor because they've decided to join

  302. with God's people.

  303. When you decide to go in with all go all

  304. in with God, you're going to face

  305. opposition.

  306. There's going to be an adversary.

  307. Bible tells us that there's a roaring

  308. lion walking about in this world seeking

  309. whom he may devour. And you know he's

  310. not trying to devour people who are

  311. living for the world and living for the

  312. flesh. He's trying to devour people who

  313. have gone all in with God. He's trying

  314. to devour people who who who sitting in

  315. here this morning, who are in church on

  316. a Sunday morning, who may be tired from

  317. vacation Bible school, but you still got

  318. up and you got here. And you said,

  319. "We're going to go worship the Lord on

  320. Sunday because our God is worthy of it."

  321. Guess what? There's a target on your

  322. back. There's an adversary.

  323. And I don't mean to discourage you this

  324. morning, but hard times are coming.

  325. Uh there's going to be opposition.

  326. It blows my mind.

  327. Uh one of the things I have learned as

  328. being a pastor is that every time

  329. somebody comes to me and says, "Pastor,

  330. I'm going to I'm going to start coming

  331. to church every Sunday."

  332. Th- They don't show up for a month.

  333. And I'll be like, "What what?

  334. You said you was going to come every

  335. Sunday and I haven't seen you for 4

  336. weeks. What's going on?" And they'll

  337. say, "Well, you know,

  338. this happened and I got sick and the car

  339. broke down and and and and so-and-so

  340. passed away and and they just go down a

  341. list and every weekend for the last 4

  342. weeks something has come up. You think

  343. that's happenstance? You think that's

  344. just circumstance? No.

  345. There's opposition. When you say, "I'm

  346. going to go with God," there's going to

  347. be opposition. There's going to be an

  348. enemy enemy. There's going to be an

  349. adversary. Here's what I want to

  350. encourage you with. Don't let the

  351. adversary win.

  352. Because just because there's opposition

  353. doesn't mean you give up and give in.

  354. Because God fights for you.

  355. Notice number two. Not only do we see

  356. the adversary,

  357. but I want you to notice number two, the

  358. allies.

  359. Notice the allies in our text in verse

  360. number six.

  361. And the men of Gibeon sent unto Joshua

  362. and to the camp of Gilgal and saying,

  363. "Slack not thy hand from thy servants.

  364. Come up to us quickly and save us and

  365. help us.

  366. For all the kings of the Amorites that

  367. dwell in the mountains are gathered

  368. together against us. So, Joshua ascended

  369. from Gilgal, he and all the people of

  370. war with him, all the mighty men of

  371. valor. The Gibeonites had entered into

  372. this vassal agreement with the

  373. Israelites. The Gibeonites then were the

  374. servants of Israel, and Israel was

  375. obligated to protect the Gibeonites.

  376. Now, if Joshua

  377. had wanted to,

  378. this would have been an opportunity for

  379. Joshua to give up

  380. on the Gibeonites.

  381. The Gibeonites are surrounded. The

  382. Gibeonites are are up against a great

  383. army.

  384. There's no way that the Gibeonites can

  385. win this on their own. And so, if Joshua

  386. had wanted to get out of this agreement

  387. that he had made, which if you go back

  388. to chapter 9, that the nation of Israel

  389. realizes who they are, and they realize

  390. this was a bad deal.

  391. They realized that they they they got

  392. the short end of the stick here.

  393. And so, if Joshua had wanted to get out

  394. of this,

  395. all he had to do was say, "Sorry, we're

  396. busy right now." and not go help them.

  397. All Joshua had to do is say, "Sorry to

  398. Gibeon, you're on your own here." But,

  399. Joshua was a man of his word. And I'm

  400. just thankful this morning that God has

  401. never said, "Sorry, John, you're on your

  402. own this time." Listen, there have been

  403. times if I was God, I would have wanted

  404. out of the deal he made with me. God got

  405. the short end of the stick when he got

  406. me. But, every time I make a mistake,

  407. every time I get myself in trouble,

  408. every time I find myself up in a mess,

  409. and I cry out to him, there's a God who

  410. is an ally. He's on my side. He's never

  411. said, "You're on your own." He's never

  412. left me. He's never forsaken me. Every

  413. single time he comes through for me

  414. right on time. Aren't you thankful

  415. you've got a heavenly ally this morning

  416. who will never leave you or forsake you.

  417. God is going to fight for you. He'll

  418. help you in your time of need.

  419. But, it I don't want you just to just to

  420. know this morning that you have a

  421. heavenly ally. You have some earthly

  422. allies as well.

  423. Everybody do this for me.

  424. I want you to look around. Everybody

  425. just look around.

  426. Just look all around the building. Go

  427. ahead.

  428. Look all around.

  429. The people you see are not your enemies.

  430. The people you see are not your

  431. competition.

  432. We're not trying to outdo one another in

  433. the Christian life. I'm not trying to be

  434. a better Christian than you. I need you

  435. to help me to live for Jesus, and you

  436. need me to help you live for Jesus. We

  437. are earthly allies together. And when

  438. you get in a mess, and you make a

  439. mistake, and you get yourself in

  440. trouble, don't run from the church, as

  441. far too often people do. No, come with a

  442. humble spirit and say, "I've messed up.

  443. Would somebody in this place help me?

  444. Would somebody in this place pray for

  445. me? Would somebody in this place fight

  446. beside me? I've messed up. I've made a

  447. mistake. I'm surrounded by an enemy, and

  448. I need somebody to help me." You're not

  449. going to find the help you want out

  450. there, but my prayer is that in this

  451. church, when you come in here with a

  452. heavy heart, you can find somebody that

  453. will hold your hands up. You'll find

  454. somebody who will bow and pray with you.

  455. You'll find somebody who will go through

  456. the storm with you. You'll find a friend

  457. who will help you. You have some earthly

  458. allies. It blows my mind why Christians

  459. decide to run from the church house when

  460. times get tough. It blows my mind why

  461. people run from God and run from the

  462. Christians that that they have, when God

  463. has orchestrated and put together a

  464. local church, not so that we can fight

  465. against one another, not because we're

  466. in a competition with one another, but

  467. he has put us together to support one

  468. another, love on one another, and help

  469. one another be the Christians that God

  470. has called us to be. Let me tell you

  471. something, you can't do it alone.

  472. You can't.

  473. You need the people in this place. Don't

  474. be afraid of community. Don't be afraid

  475. of coming together and allowing the

  476. church to lift you up and encourage you

  477. and help you.

  478. There is something special about God's

  479. people

  480. helping one another. You have some

  481. allies.

  482. The Gibeathites had some allies. They

  483. had the people of God who could come

  484. along beside them and help them. Now,

  485. Joshua, he could have

  486. He could have abandoned. He could have

  487. said, "No, I'm out. No, I'm not going to

  488. go help. No, I'm not going to do any of

  489. that." But, Joshua didn't do that.

  490. Now, listen.

  491. I'm preaching and you think it's good

  492. right now, but let me Let me get down to

  493. where you're at for just a moment.

  494. Sometimes

  495. people do come into the church

  496. and they are hurting

  497. and they are broken

  498. and you and I in our self-righteous

  499. attitude, instead of wrapping our arms

  500. around them and accepting them as they

  501. are, we we shun them.

  502. And we say, "Well, you can't dress like

  503. that or you can't talk like that or you

  504. can't look like that. When we come to

  505. church, we have to be a certain way."

  506. No, friends. It's not my job and it's

  507. not your job to clean anybody up.

  508. Our job is to love on them, get them to

  509. Jesus, and Jesus will do the cleaning

  510. up. That's his job. If you and I will

  511. just wrap our arms around them and show

  512. them the love of Christ, then God will

  513. fight for them and he'll lift them up.

  514. It's not my job to clean everybody up

  515. who doesn't talk just like me and walk

  516. just like me. Listen, my job is just to

  517. take care of myself and if I'm being

  518. honest, I got enough sin in my life to

  519. take care of. I ain't got time to worry

  520. about all yours. And you do, too.

  521. Let's just love on people.

  522. Joshua could have said, "No, Gibeon, we

  523. ain't going to come help you." But no,

  524. that's not what he did. Joshua walked

  525. all night long. He's going to hike 20

  526. miles with an army.

  527. He's going to give up a night's sleep.

  528. And he's going to hike through the

  529. mountains

  530. to a little place called Gibeon, to some

  531. people who've wronged him, to some

  532. people who lied to him, to some people

  533. who deceived him, to some people who

  534. backbit him, and he's going to go fight

  535. on their behalf because he wants to show

  536. them what Christ would do.

  537. That's what the church ought to be.

  538. We ought to give up our own comforts,

  539. sacrifice a little bit, and go help the

  540. people who have lied to us, who have

  541. wronged us, who have been deceptive to

  542. us. Well, you don't know what they've

  543. done to me, preacher. You know the best

  544. way to take care of them? Why don't you

  545. call them this afternoon and say, "Hey,

  546. I'm just praying for you. I want you to

  547. know I love you. I want you to know that

  548. if you need anything, I'm here for you."

  549. The Bible says in the book of Proverbs

  550. that one of the best ways that you can

  551. hurt your enemy is to heap is to is to

  552. be good to him. It says, "Just bless

  553. him. Talk nice to him. Go be good to

  554. him." And it's going to hurt his heart.

  555. He's going to be convicted by that.

  556. Maybe you'll be able to restore a

  557. relationship

  558. that you never thought was possible.

  559. Because you say, "You know what? Instead

  560. of fighting against you, I know what

  561. you've done to me, and I know what I

  562. could do right now.

  563. But I'm going to come love on you

  564. instead."

  565. What would happen if the church of Jesus

  566. Christ decided that instead of judging

  567. everyone, we're just going to love on

  568. people?

  569. Do you think it would make a difference?

  570. I believe it would.

  571. Let me give you something else, though.

  572. We've got the adversary, we've got the

  573. allies. Put down number three, the

  574. admonition. Let's continue in our

  575. narrative. Y'all with me still this

  576. morning?

  577. Hang in there, we're almost there.

  578. Verse number eight.

  579. God's going to give Joshua an

  580. admonition.

  581. He said, "And the Lord said unto Joshua,

  582. fear them not, for I have delivered them

  583. into thine hand. There shall not a man

  584. of them stand before thee."

  585. Joshua therefore came unto them suddenly

  586. and went up from Gilgal all night.

  587. God's going to give him an admonition in

  588. verse number eight.

  589. Joshua's going to march all night these

  590. 20 miles. He's going to march against

  591. this massive army. By the way, this is

  592. the greatest army that Joshua has faced

  593. up to this point. Jericho was a a

  594. a fortified city, but it was only one

  595. city. And it wasn't a very large city.

  596. Ai was even smaller than Jericho.

  597. Now he's up against not just one city,

  598. but he's up against the armies of five

  599. cities.

  600. Five kings have now come against

  601. Gibeath. This is the greatest army that

  602. Joshua has faced, but he doesn't back up

  603. from it. He doesn't run from it. God

  604. comes to him and says, "Joshua, don't be

  605. afraid of them. I'm going to go with

  606. you. Don't be afraid. I have delivered

  607. them into your hands." God encourages

  608. Joshua. And by the way, friends, the

  609. message of God to us this morning is

  610. don't fear the enemy. I know this is

  611. practical. I know this is simple. And if

  612. I had a voice, I want to preach so hard

  613. to you this morning, but God said no, so

  614. I'm just going to teach. All right, is

  615. that okay?

  616. God is telling us this morning, don't

  617. fear the enemy that's waiting you

  618. outside those doors.

  619. We all have opposition. We all have an

  620. adversary. We all have an enemy. We all

  621. have an anxiety, a worry, a care, a

  622. fear. This morning, the message of God

  623. to Joshua is the same message of God to

  624. you, fear them not. God is a God of

  625. victory. And if we will walk by faith

  626. and fight the good fight of faith, then

  627. God will give us victory. 1 Corinthians

    1 Corinthians 15 chapter mention

  628. chapter 15 and verse number 57 says,

  629. "But thanks be to God, which giveth us

  630. the victory through the Lord Jesus

  631. Christ." There is victory for the

  632. Christian.

  633. You don't have to fear the enemy. You

  634. don't have to fear the opposition. I

  635. don't know how it's going to turn out in

  636. this life, but I know how it's going to

  637. turn out in the next life. And even if

  638. the worst thing happens down here and

  639. you die defeated and with regret, when

  640. if you are saved this morning, victory

  641. is yours because at the moment of death,

  642. you will get to leave this world and to

  643. be absent from the body is to be present

  644. with the Lord, the Bible tells us. And

  645. you'll get to be in glory, in a

  646. glorified body, in the presence of your

  647. savior. And I just want to tell you,

  648. it's going to be okay on that day. It's

  649. going to be all right when we see Jesus.

  650. It's going to be okay at the end of it.

  651. You have the victory regardless of what

  652. happens down here. One day, there is

  653. coming a day when you'll be able to sit

  654. at the feet of Jesus and worship him.

  655. And what a day that's going to be. What

  656. a glorious day it's going to be. And God

  657. tells Joshua, Joshua, don't don't fear.

  658. You're going They're going to be

  659. delivered into your hands.

  660. So, we see the message of God. And then

  661. I want you to notice in verse 9, the man

  662. of God.

  663. Joshua therefore came up unto them

  664. suddenly and went up from Gilgal all

  665. night.

  666. Sometimes we get this idea

  667. that because I'm saved and because God

  668. fights on my side, I don't have to fight

  669. anymore.

  670. Uh you and I can just kind of coast

  671. through life and we can kind of live how

  672. we want to live and do what we want to

  673. do because God's already given us the

  674. victory.

  675. And and listen, there are there is

  676. eternal victory for the Christian. If

  677. you're saved, you're you're saved.

  678. You're going to get to heaven. God's

  679. paid the the price of your sin. He's

  680. He's paid it all on Calvary. You're

  681. saved. You can't lose it. You're going

  682. to go to heaven. But what you will miss

  683. are the blessings of the Christian life

  684. now.

  685. If you don't live for God, if you don't

  686. fight now, you'll miss the Let me just

  687. put it in context.

  688. If Joshua had said, "Thanks, Lord.

  689. You say don't fear them. You told me to

  690. that they're delivered. I'm just going

  691. to stay put. I'm not going to walk all

  692. night. I'm going to sleep good tonight.

  693. I'm I'm going to rest well and in the

  694. morning, I'm just going to expect some

  695. great miracle to take place and defeat

  696. them."

  697. No, they would they the Gibeonites would

  698. have lost.

  699. Josh the story would be completely

  700. different and and here's the key, Joshua

  701. would have missed a great miracle of God

  702. that's getting ready to take place.

  703. He would have never saw it if he didn't

  704. gird himself up and go fight. So, I've

  705. come to tell you this morning, yes, God

  706. has said fear don't fear your enemy.

  707. Yes, God has said, "Hey, I'm going to

  708. take care of you." Yes, God has said,

  709. "I'm going to fight beside you." Yes,

  710. God has said, "Victory is yours." But

  711. you got to get up and fight the good

  712. fight of faith.

  713. Don't just lay around all the time and

  714. say, "Woe is me. God's never done

  715. anything for me." Maybe maybe the reason

  716. you've never seen anybody saved is

  717. because you've never went out and

  718. witnessed to anybody.

  719. Maybe the reason you've never had a

  720. visitor in a guest in church with you is

  721. cuz you've never invited anyone to come

  722. to church with you. Maybe the reason

  723. you've never seen God answer prayer is

  724. because you've never had a sleepless

  725. night on your knees asking God to do

  726. something great. Maybe the reason you

  727. don't understand your Bible is because

  728. you've never sat down and actually put

  729. the time in to read it. You just expect

  730. me to explain it to you every week. And

  731. I'll do the best I can, but can I tell

  732. you that's not enough?

  733. Perhaps the reason you're not seeing

  734. spiritual victory is because you're just

  735. sitting back waiting on God to do some

  736. great miracle and you're missing the

  737. miracles of God in your life because

  738. you're not willing to put in a little

  739. work in your Christian life.

  740. There's an admonition from God. Hey

  741. Joshua, I've delivered them into your

  742. hands, but you better get going.

  743. This morning your spiritual victory

  744. might be just around the next corner.

  745. Don't give up now.

  746. This is not the time to sleep in. This

  747. is not the time to get lazy as the

  748. church. This is not the time to give up

  749. and just wait on God to do something. We

  750. ought to pray harder. We ought to preach

  751. harder. We ought to visit harder. We

  752. ought to be evangelized harder. We've

  753. got to be more passionate now than we've

  754. ever been. I believe there are great

  755. miracles for the church ahead. But I

  756. think the church many churches are

  757. missing the miracles of God because we

  758. have gotten in a rut and we're just

  759. going through a religious motion every

  760. week and that's the extent of our

  761. Christian life. And God says I've got so

  762. much more for you if you would just get

  763. up and pray a little bit. If you would

  764. just spend some time with me.

  765. You would experience my presence like

  766. you've never known before.

  767. How about it?

  768. Perhaps the reason we're not seeing

  769. spiritual victory

  770. is because we're not people of God

  771. who are seeking the face of God. I'm

  772. almost done. Let me give you number

  773. four.

  774. We see number one, the adversary. Number

  775. two, the allies.

  776. Number three, the admonition. Number

  777. four, there is the almighty.

  778. God's going to show up and do what only

  779. God can do.

  780. And by the way, when you and I join in a

  781. partnership with God, then God's going

  782. to show up and do what only God can do.

  783. It's not up to you and I to create

  784. something. We just got to get up and do

  785. what God's called us to do. And if we'll

  786. join a partnership with him, he'll take

  787. care of the rest.

  788. Look at what happens.

  789. Verse 10 and 11, we see the might of

  790. God.

  791. Verse number 10, the Lord discomfited

  792. them before Israel. That word means that

  793. he confused them.

  794. The enemies get so confused, they get so

  795. worked up, they don't even know which

  796. way they're going, they don't know

  797. what's happening.

  798. They get all confused and then the

  799. Israel slew them with a great slaughter

  800. at Gibeon.

  801. Chased them along the way that goeth up

  802. to Beth-horon

  803. and smote them at Azekah and Makkedah.

  804. Verse 11, and it came to pass as they

  805. fled before Israel. So, all these these

  806. five cities, this great army, now is

  807. fleeing from Israel.

  808. As they were going down to Beth-horon

  809. that the Lord cast great stones from

  810. heaven upon them

  811. at Azekah and they died. And there were

  812. more which died with hailstones than

  813. they whom the children of Israel slew

  814. with the sword.

  815. So, God sends down these great

  816. hailstones from heaven. Israel comes

  817. into Gibeon.

  818. They've walked all night, they've

  819. marched all night, they begin to battle

  820. with these five kings who have

  821. surrounded Gibeon. God begins to give

  822. them a victory. The kings, the armies

  823. begin to flee away. And as they're

  824. running away from the face of Israel,

  825. God sends hailstones out of heaven. It's

  826. a great hail storm and they begin to hit

  827. these dudes in the head and more of them

  828. died from the hail storm than those

  829. which died by the sword. What is God

  830. doing? He's giving Israel a victory. God

  831. told them he'd give them a victory and

  832. now God is coming through. God is a God

  833. who keeps his promises. And if you'll

  834. partner with Jesus, he'll always come

  835. through. He's a God who fights for you.

  836. But that's not the end of the miracle.

  837. Joshua was fighting with them.

  838. And then they're they're fighting and

  839. they're chasing and they see them

  840. falling and Joshua begins to see the

  841. sun.

  842. He said, "We've only got so many hours

  843. of daylight left.

  844. And God, I've seen what you can do with

  845. the hail.

  846. And the same God who made the hail is

  847. the same God who put the stars and the

  848. sun and the moon in space.

  849. And God, it sure would be nice if I

  850. could get just a few more hours of

  851. daylight out here.

  852. Because I want to make sure I do a

  853. thorough job."

  854. How many of you have ever watched the

  855. sun set on a job and you're thinking,

  856. "I wish I could get a few more hours of

  857. daylight out here."

  858. Well, Joshua is doing the Lord's work.

  859. He begins to pray. Look at what happens

  860. in verse number 12. Then speak Joshua to

  861. the Lord in that day when the Lord

  862. delivered up the Amorites before the

  863. children of Israel and he said in the

  864. sight of Israel, "O sun,

  865. S U N, stand thou still upon Gibeon and

  866. thou moon in the valley of Ajalon."

  867. Verse 13, "And the sun stood still and

  868. the moon stayed until the people had

  869. avenged themselves upon their enemies.

  870. Is not this written in the book of

  871. Jasher?" So, the sun stood still in the

  872. midst of heaven and hastened not to go

  873. down about a whole day.

  874. Now, this is interesting. You can look

  875. up

  876. records in history.

  877. Native Americans have a a day in in

  878. their history books far, far ago that's

  879. written about that they say that where a

  880. night was extra long.

  881. Well, that would make sense because on

  882. our side of the world, it would be night

  883. while Israel was day.

  884. And God makes the sun to just stand

  885. still. How does God do it? Well, we know

  886. now that the world spinning on axis and

  887. there's a sun and there's the moon and

  888. all of this is taking place. And I'll

  889. just be honest, I don't know how God did

  890. it. But if he made it all, I suppose he

  891. can stop it all for a little while.

  892. So God just holds the sun still for a

  893. bit. He makes the day longer so that

  894. Joshua can complete the victory. And

  895. it's a great miracle. But Joshua would

  896. have missed it all if he didn't stay in

  897. the fight.

  898. If he didn't take up for his brothers

  899. who had come and asked for help.

  900. Here's what I think, church, and I'm

  901. done. Ashton, can you come?

  902. Here's what I think

  903. we've missed in a lot of our churches

  904. today.

  905. Here's what I think, let's just Can I

  906. personalize it? Here's what I think I've

  907. missed in my life.

  908. I think I've missed a lot of time.

  909. I think I've missed a lot of daylight

  910. that God wanted to provide for me to

  911. make a difference in the world

  912. because I wasn't even in the fight.

  913. I've missed a lot of opportunities. I've

  914. missed a lot of chances

  915. because I wasn't even in the fight.

  916. How many more miracles could I testify

  917. about

  918. if I had been a little busier about

  919. seeking the face of God and fighting the

  920. evilness of this world? How many more

  921. miracles could I testify about if I had

  922. taken time to pray with that brother or

  923. that sister in Christ?

  924. One prayer could be all it takes to

  925. change a situation. One prayer could be

  926. all it takes to to heal someone

  927. physically.

  928. Oh, how many more miracles could you

  929. testify about this morning

  930. if instead of getting weak and and

  931. instead of getting tired and instead of

  932. living in discouragement, you had risen

  933. up and said, "God, today today I'm going

  934. to fight for somebody. Today I'm going

  935. to fight on my knees for somebody. Today

  936. I'm going to come before you and ask for

  937. your blessing for somebody. Today I'm

  938. going to pray for the church to go

  939. forth. Today I'm going to go invite

  940. somebody to come into a relationship

  941. with Jesus Christ. How many more

  942. testimonies would we have of the

  943. miracles of God if we would actually get

  944. in the fight?

  945. I'm all for church.

  946. And I want you to be in church every

  947. time we have church. I think it's

  948. important.

  949. But I don't ever want you to just come

  950. to church to check the religious box.

  951. And just get in this religious motion

  952. where you just go through the the things

  953. that we do.

  954. Oh, you can come to church your whole

  955. life and never see God do anything.

  956. That's not what I want. I've got a God

  957. who came down to where I was. He knew

  958. how dirty and rotten and sinful I was.

  959. And yet he still came to me and he

  960. wrapped me up in his big old loving arms

  961. and he said, "I want to be your friend

  962. and I want to walk with you and I want

  963. to fight for you. I want to fight with

  964. you. I want to give you victories." How

  965. foolish would it be for me then to take

  966. the hand of that God and just sit down

  967. and say, "Take me to heaven someday,

  968. Lord."

  969. And yet how many churches and Christians

  970. are living right there?

  971. And they're missing all the miracles

  972. that God has for them.

  973. Lost family members who need to be

  974. saved. Are you fighting with the savior

  975. of the world on behalf of them?

  976. Or do we just sit back idle and think,

  977. "God, give us some great miracle."

  978. I don't know about you, church, but I

  979. want to go

  980. with God.

  981. I want to see all that he has for me.

  982. I don't want to leave anything undone.

  983. I want to give him everything that I've

  984. got.

  985. I would rather die young

  986. and give God everything
