  1. name. Amen.

  2. Amen. Well, take your Bibles and let's

  3. go to the book of Revelation tonight.

  4. We're moving along. We're almost done

  5. with our study of the book of

  6. Revelation. And I hope that it's been a

  7. blessing to you to study this book. I

  8. think that this is a book of of great

  9. blessing to the believer. I think that

  10. this is a wonderful book for the

  11. believer

  12. and uh

  13. and I hope that maybe you'll go back and

  14. and continue to study this book. It's uh

  15. oftentimes an overlooked book because

  16. people are afraid of it. They've heard

  17. this or they've heard that about it, but

  18. it's not a it's not a book that should

  19. cause fear. It's a book that should

  20. honestly cause great comfort for the

  21. Christian. So, let's continue to study

  22. it. Tonight, we're in chapter 21. And

  23. then next week and maybe the week after

  24. we'll be in chapter 22 and then we'll be

  25. finished uh with the book of Revelation

  26. and we'll take off on something else

  27. once we finish and ask the Lord where to

  28. lead us next. We'll continue to study

  29. the word of God together. Tonight I've

  30. got tonight's all about heaven. We're

  31. going to talk about heaven tonight and

  32. uh I hope it'll be a blessing to you. I

  33. don't want to scare you, but I will let

  34. you know that tonight I have uh I think

  35. I have 18 points tonight. Okay. So, I'm

  36. about to do an 18point sermon in 25

  37. minutes. Um, we're going to talk about

  38. what is in heaven. And I have nine or 10

  39. things that are in heaven. And then I

  40. have nine or 10 things that are not in

  41. heaven. And so, we're going to identify

  42. them straight from the text. Things that

  43. are not in heaven, things that are in

  44. heaven. And I hope that it'll just be a

  45. comfort to you and a help to you in your

  46. in your daily walk. Give you some hope.

  47. Uh, this world is not my home. Amen. Uh,

  48. I'm just passing through. There's

  49. another place that God is preparing for

  50. me and for you and I can't wait to be

  51. there one of these days. Revelation

    Revelation 21 chapter mention

  52. chapter 21. Many people have tried to

  53. describe heaven through a variety of

  54. ways. Some people have uh even claimed

  55. that they have gone to heaven and they

  56. come back and they write a book about

  57. what they have seen in heaven. And uh I

  58. I'm not trying to be mean or or demean

  59. anyone, but they're mistaken. they what

  60. they saw was the effects of the

  61. medication they were on. Uh I don't

  62. believe that they've went to heaven and

  63. come back. I think that God has given us

  64. everything in the Bible that we need to

  65. know about heaven. It's all included

  66. right here. And so if you want to know

  67. about heaven, study the Bible. I don't

  68. need to study another man's writing

  69. about what he supposedly saw about

  70. heaven. John saw heaven opened. John

  71. recorded what he saw. And it is the

  72. complete and perfect word of God. And

  73. so, let's take a look tonight at what

  74. the Bible says about heaven. We come to

  75. Revelation chapter 21. And I'll remind

    Revelation 21 chapter mention

  76. you where we are in our timeline of the

  77. book of Revelation. We have the Christ

  78. in chapter 1. We have the church in

  79. chapter 2 and three. At the end of or at

  80. the beginning of chapter 4, the church

  81. goes up. In chapter four and five, we

  82. see the church there in heaven. Chapter

  83. 6 through chapter 18, the judgments

  84. begin to pour down. The seven-year

  85. tribulation period, God judges the

  86. earth. And then Revelation chapter 19,

    Revelation 19 chapter mention

  87. Jesus comes back, the second coming,

  88. battle of Armageddon takes place and God

  89. defeats Satan and and the Antichrist and

  90. the false prophet and uh the false

  91. prophet and the antichrist are put into

  92. the lake of fire. Satan is bound and

  93. thrown into the bottomless pit. A

  94. thousand-year reign of Christ gets set

  95. up and that's Revelation chapter 20. We

    Revelation 20 chapter mention

  96. call it the millennial reign. A thousand

  97. years Jesus Christ rules and reigns.

  98. It's a wonderful kingdom. uh Jesus is on

  99. the throne at the end of the thousand

  100. years, Satan is loosed. We find in there

  101. in Revelation 20 towards the end the

  102. battle of Gog and Magog and then the

  103. last part of chapter 20 the great white

  104. throne judgment in which Satan is cast

  105. out into the lake of fire and all of

  106. those who are unbelievers are cast into

  107. the lake of fire. And that brings us

  108. then to chapter number 21. And in

  109. chapter 21 and chapter 22, we have what

  110. we call the eternal state. This is

  111. eternity future. What will forever look

  112. like? And that's described for us in

  113. chapter 21 and chapter 22. Once Satan

  114. and sin and all all unbelievers have

  115. been thrown into the lake of fire where

  116. they will spend all of their eternity,

  117. what does our eternity look like? What

  118. about for believers? What about those

  119. who have accepted Christ? What does

  120. eternity look like for you and I?

  121. There's an old southern gospel song that

  122. says these words, and you'll recognize

  123. this, I think. It says, "I want to

  124. stroll over heaven with you some glad

  125. day. When all our troubles and

  126. heartaches are vanished away, then we'll

  127. enjoy the beauty where all things are

  128. new. I want to stroll over heaven with

  129. you tonight. I want to stroll over

  130. heaven with you through the pages of

  131. scripture. So, we're just going to take

  132. a tour of heaven tonight through the

  133. words that John writes as God reveals to

  134. him what the eternal state is going to

  135. look like. So, if you're taking notes,

  136. there's two main points tonight. What

  137. will not be in heaven and then what will

  138. be in heaven. Number one, let's consider

  139. what will not be in heaven. I'm going to

  140. bounce through this text tonight. So to

  141. to frame it for us, let's take a moment

  142. and let's just read a few of these

  143. verses. We may read the entire chapter.

  144. We may stop partway through, but let's

  145. just start in verse one and read through

  146. a little bit of this so that we can uh

  147. frame our minds around what John is

  148. writing. Chapter 21 verse number one,

  149. John writes, "And I saw a new heaven and

  150. a new earth, for the first heaven and

  151. the first earth were passed away, and

  152. there were there was no more sea. And I,

  153. John, saw the holy city, new Jerusalem,

  154. coming down from God out of heaven,

  155. prepared as a bride adorned for her

  156. husband. And I heard a great voice out

  157. of heaven, saying, "Behold, the

  158. tabernacle of God is with men, and he

  159. will dwell with them, and they will they

  160. shall be his people, and God himself

  161. shall be with them and be their God. And

  162. God shall wipe away all tears from their

  163. eyes, and there shall be no more death,

  164. neither sorrow, neither nor crying,

  165. neither shall there be any more pain,

  166. for the former things are passed away."

  167. And he that sat upon the throne said,

  168. "Behold, I make all things new." And he

  169. said unto me, "Write, for these words

  170. are true and faithful." And he said unto

  171. me, "It is done. I am alpha and omega,

  172. the beginning and the end. I will give

  173. unto him that is a thirst of the

  174. fountain of water of life freely. He

  175. that overcomemeth shall inherit all

  176. things, and I will be his God, and he

  177. shall be my son. But the fearful, and

  178. the unbelieving, and the abominable, and

  179. the murderers, and the hormongers, and

  180. the sorcerers, and the idolattors, and

  181. all liars shall have their part in the

  182. lake, which burnth with fire and

  183. brimstone, which is the second death.

  184. And there came unto me one of the seven

  185. angels, which had the seven vials, full

  186. of the seven last plagues, and talked

  187. with me, saying, Come hither, and I will

  188. show thee the bride, the lamb's wife.

  189. And he carried me away in the spirit to

  190. a great and high mountain, and showed me

  191. that great city, the holy Jerusalem,

  192. descending out of heaven from God,

  193. having the glory of God. And her light

  194. was like unto a stone most precious,

  195. even like a jasper stone, clear as

  196. crystal. Now, we'll pause there. We'll

  197. touch on the rest of the chapter as we

  198. go through this evening. Let me give you

  199. eight or nine 10 things that will not be

  200. in heaven according to this text. Number

  201. one, there will be no sea. In verse

  202. number one, we see that John recognizes

  203. a new heaven and a new earth. For the

  204. first heaven and the first earth are

  205. passed away, and there's no more sea.

  206. What is John communicating to us? Well,

  207. everything that we're used to here on

  208. this earth is going to be done away

  209. with. It's going to be brand new. You

  210. realize that the sea, the oceans have a

  211. lot to do with the way that our world

  212. functions. And all of that will be done

  213. away with. I think the point, the

  214. message that John is saying is it's

  215. going to be a brand new one. It's going

  216. to be uh it's going to be sparkly new.

  217. There's not going to be any blemish in

  218. it. There's not going it's not going to

  219. be like what you know now. It's going to

  220. be brand new. God's going to make all

  221. things new. Yes, it will be different

  222. than what we know, but it's going to be

  223. better than what we know in every way.

  224. So, we see there's no sea. And then

  225. number two, there's no death.

  226. Go to verse number four. It says there

  227. shall be no more death in verse number

  228. four. No more dying in heaven. No more

  229. saying goodbye ever again for all of

  230. eternity. We will be together. But once

  231. we enter that eternal state, we will be

  232. forever alive in the presence of the

  233. Lord. Uh never to leave, never to fear

  234. death, never to experience the the loss

  235. of a loved one. We mentioned a couple of

  236. families tonight who have are

  237. experiencing that loss right now. and we

  238. pray for them and we ask God to comfort

  239. them and give them peace. That there's

  240. coming a day in the eternal state where

  241. forever and ever and ever and ever for

  242. all of eternity we will get to be alive

  243. with those that we love and and we'll

  244. get to live in this this perfect harmony

  245. where we won't have to fear death. We

  246. won't have to fear sickness. We won't

  247. have to fear the the the the terrible

  248. result of cancer in someone's life. it

  249. will it will be gone because death will

  250. be completely gone. And number three,

  251. there will be no crying in heaven.

  252. Verse number four, again, God shall wipe

  253. all tears from their eyes. And then just

  254. down a little farther in the verse, you

  255. see there's no crying in this eternal

  256. state, in this new heaven, this new

  257. earth. No more tears

  258. in this life. There are things that

  259. cause us to cry. There are things that

  260. cause emotion. Things like death, a lost

  261. loved one can cause us to cry. Sometimes

  262. memories can cause us to cry. Good

  263. memories can cause us to cry. Bad

  264. memories sometimes can cause us to cry.

  265. Sometimes surprises can cause us to cry.

  266. Have you ever seen one of these videos?

  267. And and there I don't know how many of

  268. them are true, but I suppose that

  269. initially when they first started, there

  270. was probably some truth in them. But you

  271. see a a soldier come back from overseas

  272. and surprise his wife and his children

  273. and they just begin to weep because of

  274. the how how great of a surprise it is.

  275. And then you you see sometimes even uh

  276. if you're watching a sad movie, you'll

  277. be watching a movie and you'll feel the

  278. tears begin to come down. And if you're

  279. anything like me, you're like, "Get out

  280. of here. I ain't crying over no movie.

  281. That ain't what I'm a man. I ain't going

  282. to cry over no movie." But that's

  283. emotion. And that's how humans are in

  284. this world because our emotions are up

  285. and our emotions are down and and things

  286. happen that get us on a on a high and

  287. then we end up in the valley and it's up

  288. and down and sometimes life can feel

  289. like a roller coaster and you're just

  290. like a good day can turn into a bad day

  291. in just a moment and and it causes us to

  292. weep at times. Sometimes for good

  293. reasons, sometimes for bad reasons. But

  294. guess what? When we get to our eternal

  295. state, there's no more roller coaster of

  296. emotions. There's no more tears at all.

  297. God will wipe away all of the tears from

  298. our eyes. And it's just going to be a

  299. place of perfect peace for all of

  300. eternity. You'll be able to rest and

  301. just relax and not worry about what if

  302. or or the anxiety or the cares that you

  303. have. There's no more tears, no crying.

  304. And then the next one goes right along

  305. with that. Number four, there is no

  306. sorrow in heaven.

  307. Some people cry easily. That's in verse

  308. four as well. Neither sorrow. Some

  309. people cry easily and they're emotional

  310. people and that's fine. God creates

  311. those people. Other people though refuse

  312. to cry. They're just not emotional

  313. people and they don't cry. And uh it

  314. doesn't matter what happens or what goes

  315. on in their life. They just tears don't

  316. come. They just don't cry. And and

  317. that's okay. That's fine. God creates

  318. people differently and we deal with

  319. emotions differently. Uh but God throws

  320. in this one just for those of us who

  321. don't cry because all people sorrow

  322. whether there are tears or not. All

  323. people deal with sorrow. All people deal

  324. with hurt and with grief and with

  325. anxiety and with worry and with all

  326. these things that this life throws at

  327. us. And and so God says there's no

  328. sorrow in this place. But whether you

  329. are a person who shows your emotions or

  330. not, uh there's no sorrow. The eternal

  331. state, no one will sorrow at all. There

  332. will be nothing to sorrow over for all

  333. will be well in that place, that new

  334. heaven, that new earth. Number five,

  335. there's no pain in heaven.

  336. No pain. It's what it says there at the

  337. end of that sentence in verse number

  338. four. There shall neither be any more

  339. pain.

  340. This is a wonderful thing. No more

  341. aches. No more hurts. No more sore backs

  342. and sore feet. No more exhaustion. No

  343. more sickness. No more head colds that

  344. causes people to miss church. No, it's

  345. it's going to be a place where there's

  346. no more pain. Your body will be

  347. perfectly healed. Perfectly healed. I I

  348. heard a a pastor, Bible scholar today.

  349. He was talking about this passage and

  350. and he was uh he was not arguing for but

  351. just presenting the possibility of a an

  352. age when we get to heaven. And he kind

  353. of made a case throughout scripture for

  354. the age 30. How old are you going to be

  355. when you get there? Well, Adam was

  356. created at the age of maturity. And most

  357. Bible scholars would agree that he was

  358. created at the age 30. uh g in the Old

  359. Testament, you had to be 30 to begin

  360. your priestly ministry. Uh Jesus was 30

  361. when he started his earthly ministry. Uh

  362. and so he's making a case all through

  363. the Bible that 30 is the age. And that

  364. may be the case. I don't know. For for

  365. for us, I think most everybody in here,

  366. well, the older people in here, 30

  367. sounds really good, don't it? You're

  368. like, I'd love to go back to 30. For

  369. these guys back here in the back, these

  370. these kids back here in the back,

  371. they're thinking, 30? That's so old. I

  372. don't want to be 30 when I'm in heaven.

  373. I don't know. Nobody knows. The Bible

  374. doesn't say. But here's what I do know.

  375. You'll be You'll be perfect. Your body

  376. will be glorified. There'll be no more

  377. pain, no more aches, no more diseases,

  378. no more cancer. Praise the Lord. It'll

  379. all be done away with. No pain at all.

  380. And then let me give you number six. A

  381. sixth thing that will not be in heaven.

  382. There will be no unbelievers in heaven.

  383. Look at verse eight. We read it a moment

  384. ago.

  385. But the fearful and unbelieving and the

  386. abominable and murderers and whoreongers

  387. and sorcerers and idolattors and all

  388. liars shall have their part in the lake

  389. which burneth with fire and brimstone

  390. which is the second death. All those who

  391. un who are unbelievers who die in

  392. unbelief who do not believe on the Lord

  393. Jesus Christ for salvation they have no

  394. place in this new heaven and new earth.

  395. They will be cast into the lake of fire

  396. before it is ever created, the great

  397. white throne judgment. And they'll be

  398. cast into the lake of fire and that's

  399. where they'll spend eternity. So there

  400. will be no unbelievers in the new heaven

  401. and the new earth. That's kind of

  402. interesting, isn't it? Because a part of

  403. such a big part of the church today is

  404. connecting with unbelievers, right? But

  405. you and I, the great commission, we're

  406. called to go preach the gospel to those

  407. who are unbelievers and go out, go bring

  408. them in, go out and preach the gospel

  409. and share the gospel and see souls

  410. saved. But in that that place, in that

  411. eternal state, we'll all be saved. It's

  412. going to be like one great big church

  413. family. There won't be anyone to

  414. evangelize. We'll just get to worship

  415. all of the time. There won't be any

  416. unbelievers who will be there. Now, that

  417. ought to motivate us a little bit

  418. tonight because we're not yet there. So,

  419. unbelievers still have a chance to

  420. believe, to put their faith and trust in

  421. Jesus Christ. So, we ought to while

  422. we're in this life, uh we ought to go

  423. evangelize and we ought to go preach the

  424. gospel so that they can join us in that

  425. eternal state in that new heaven and new

  426. earth. There'll be no unbelievers on

  427. that day. Look at verse number 22. Let

  428. me give you a seventh thing that will

  429. not be in heaven. In verse 22, there

  430. will be no temple in heaven.

  431. No temple in heaven. Look at verse 22.

  432. John said, "And I saw no temple therein.

  433. For the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb

  434. are the temple of it." There's no need

  435. for a temple. You remember in the Old

  436. Testament what the temple was. What was

  437. the purpose of the temple? Well, it was

  438. the place that housed the presence of

  439. God. You remember that large curtain

  440. that that separated the Holy of Holies

  441. from the rest of the temple. And in the

  442. New Testament when Jesus died on the

  443. cross, that veil, that curtain was

  444. ripped from top to bottom, which then

  445. gave access to the world into the

  446. presence of God. God's saying, "Hey, my

  447. presence is now accessible to all

  448. people." And it is accessible to all

  449. people. But many people in this world

  450. have never experienced the presence of

  451. God. That's not God's fault. He's made

  452. it available to all people. But they

  453. have rejected the presence of God. They

  454. have turned away from the presence of

  455. God. And so there the temple but but in

  456. verse 22 John says there is no temple

  457. because the presence of God is all

  458. consuming in this new heaven and new

  459. earth. You can't get away from it. It is

  460. overwhelming. God is the temple. His

  461. presence is everywhere. It's a continual

  462. state in the presence of God, in the

  463. sweet, overwhelming, wonderful presence

  464. of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

  465. In verse 23,

  466. we see an eighth thing that will not be

  467. there. There was no sun there. the city.

  468. Verse 23, and the city had no need of

  469. the sun, neither of the moon to shine in

  470. it, for the glory of God did light in

  471. it, and and the lamb is the light

  472. thereof. There's no sun, su n, because

  473. it is it is lit by the sun, s o n.

  474. Because the son of god is there, there

  475. is no need for the ball of fire that is

  476. in the sky today. So, it's going to be

  477. completely different. God is going to

  478. light the new heaven and the new earth.

  479. And and and I don't know that I have

  480. time to go into this in detail tonight,

  481. but it's fascinating to me. Uh we we'll

  482. see this here in just a moment as we

  483. look at this. The gold that new heaven

  484. and new earth is made out of, it's made

  485. out of pure gold. Gold like has never

  486. been found on this earth. Gold. When we

  487. think of gold, we we think gold like

  488. this, right?

  489. This is gold, right? You look at this. I

  490. don't think it's real gold, but it's

  491. painted gold. And now this is what we

  492. think when we think of gold. We think

  493. yellow. We think this color right here.

  494. But in the new heaven, in the new earth,

  495. it's completely clear. You can see

  496. straight through it. It's clear as

  497. glass, but it's gold. And that's

  498. fascinating to me because the glory of

  499. God then can shine through everything.

  500. There's no barrier. There's no walls.

  501. Everything I mean, there's there's

  502. walls, but it just shines straight

  503. through it. It's everything is made out

  504. of gold that is clear as crystal, clear

  505. as glass. And the glory of God lights

  506. the city. So there's no shadows in

  507. heaven, no places to hide in the new

  508. heaven and the new earth. It's clear uh

  509. a clear glass and God's glory shines

  510. through all of it. So there's no sun.

  511. And then verse 25, number nine, there is

  512. no night in heaven. No night. The gate

  513. shall not be shut at all by day, for

  514. there shall be no night there.

  515. It's always day. There's no night. Now,

  516. you and I, that's confusing to you and I

  517. because we we crave the night, right?

  518. Some of you are sitting out there right

  519. now yawning because you want the night

  520. to come. You're ready to go to bed.

  521. You've had a long day and you want to

  522. rest and recharge and let your body

  523. restore itself. And God created it that

  524. way. In Genesis chapter 1, God made the

    Genesis 1 chapter mention

  525. sun and the moon. He made the greater

  526. light to rule the day and the lesser

  527. light to rule the night. And he call he

  528. he formed a day in which you you have so

  529. many hours of daylight and and you have

  530. night and the night is a time to

  531. restore. But guess what? In the new

  532. heaven and new earth, we don't need

  533. restored. Our bodies will be perfect.

  534. There will be nothing to restore. We'll

  535. always be full of energy. There'll be no

  536. need to take a nap. There'll be no need

  537. to go to sleep. So there is no night.

  538. It's always day. It's always light. And

  539. then number 10, finally, what will not

  540. be in heaven? There will be no sin and

  541. no temptation in heaven. No sin or

  542. temptation in heaven. Look at verse 27.

  543. There shall in no wise enter in anything

  544. that defileth, neither whatsoever

  545. workketh abomination or maketh a lie,

  546. but they which are written in the Lamb's

  547. book of life.

  548. Excuse me. Nothing that defileth will be

  549. in heaven.

  550. nothing that is that is sinful. There'll

  551. be no temptation. There will be nothing

  552. at all in heaven that would cause you

  553. and I to even desire to sin. There'll be

  554. no sin at all whatsoever. No temptation

  555. in the new heaven and new earth. Number

  556. two then, and I'll move quickly. What

  557. will be in heaven? What will be in

  558. heaven? Well, we've seen 10 things that

  559. are not in heaven. What are we going to

  560. have in heaven? Number one, the glory of

  561. God will be there.

  562. There's several verses here that I'll

  563. point your attention to. Verse number

  564. three is where we see it. First, God

  565. himself will dwell with us as our God.

  566. God himself will be present in this

  567. place. And with his presence, there is

  568. his glory. In verse seven, we'll be able

  569. to enjoy God as our father. In verse 11,

  570. his glory is stated as being present in

  571. that place. Verse 11, the first part

  572. says, "Having the glory of God, it's

  573. going to be filled with the glory of

  574. God." Verse 22 and verse 23, we see his

  575. glory mentioned again.

  576. So number one, what will be in heaven?

  577. The glory of God will be there.

  578. And did you know that the glory of God

  579. all throughout the Bible is is one of

  580. the things that mankind craves?

  581. Without the glory of God, there there is

  582. no hope for society. There is no hope

  583. for a culture. There is no hope for

  584. humanity. Oh, but where the glory of God

  585. is, there is hope. Where the church that

  586. has the glory of God is a church that

  587. has great hope and great future. And in

  588. that place, there will be the glory of

  589. God. Number two, what will be in heaven?

  590. Jesus will be there. Jesus will be in

  591. this new heaven and new earth. We'll get

  592. to see him. We'll get to talk to him.

  593. You can talk to him now if you want to.

  594. But in that place, he'll be there. In

  595. verse number five, he that sat upon the

  596. throne said, "Behold, I make all things

  597. new and said unto me, right, for these

  598. words are true and faithful." In verse

  599. five, he is seen as the faithful and

  600. true word.

  601. John chapter 1, the word was made flesh

    John 1 chapter mention

  602. and dwelt among us. And we beheld his

  603. glory, the glory as of the only begotten

  604. of the father, full of grace and truth.

  605. Verse five, he's a faithful and true

  606. word. Verse six, he is the alpha and the

  607. omega.

  608. Verse 9, he is the groom of the church.

  609. Verse 14,

  610. [cough] excuse me, verse 14, verse 22,

  611. and verse 23, he is seen as the lamb.

  612. He's seen all throughout the book of

  613. Revelation as the lamb. So we see him in

  614. the new heaven, the new earth. Jesus

  615. will be there. Number three, what will

  616. be in heaven?

  617. The church will be there.

  618. The church will be there. You and I, the

  619. New Testament local church, those who

  620. have believed on the Lord Jesus Christ

  621. will be there. Verse number two, we see

  622. the mention of the bride that is adorned

  623. for her husband. And then in verse

  624. number nine, there came unto me one of

  625. the seven angels which had seven vials

  626. full of the seven last plagues, and

  627. talked with me, saying, "Come hither,

  628. and I will show thee the bride, the

  629. lamb's wife." Who is the lamb's wife?

  630. That is the local church. That's you and

  631. I. So, the church will be present there

  632. in that eternal state. We have a spot in

  633. God's eternal plan. God has a place for

  634. you and I.

  635. This is interesting. What else will be

  636. there? Number four, you keeping up?

  637. Everybody with me so far? Number four,

  638. what will be in the new heaven and new

  639. earth? Believing Israel will be there.

  640. There will be a representative from

  641. every tribe of the nation of Israel that

  642. will be present in the new heaven and

  643. new earth. Now, this is interesting.

  644. Look at verse 12.

  645. This new city, this new heaven, new

  646. earth, had a wall great and high. had 12

  647. gates and the gates 12 angels and the

  648. names written thereon which are the

  649. names of the 12 tribes of the children

  650. of Israel for around this city there is

  651. this great and high wall by the way God

  652. is for building walls right [laughter]

  653. I'll just say that I you can take that

  654. for what it's worth

  655. is he building a wall for who's he going

  656. to keep out

  657. there's nobody to keep out but he builds

  658. this wall around the city and then he

  659. puts these gates. There's three and

  660. three and then three. There's these 12

  661. gates that go around the city.

  662. And on these gates, each one is named

  663. after a tribe of the nation of Israel.

  664. They have the names of the tribes

  665. written on them. And so what does this

  666. mean really? It it really has nothing to

  667. do with building a wall. It has to do

  668. with the fact that God is not done with

  669. the people of Israel. They have a place.

  670. And notice the distinction in the new

  671. heaven and the new earth. In the eternal

  672. state, there is a clear distinction made

  673. between the local church and believing

  674. Israel. They're not the same. They're

  675. different. And there are those today in

  676. our culture who would try and argue and

  677. preach and teach that that the local

  678. church has replaced Israel and that God

  679. is done and finished with Israel. But

  680. that's not true. And I I use the

  681. statement believing Israel on purpose.

  682. Because just because someone is a Jew

  683. does not mean they're automatically

  684. going to heaven. They still have to

  685. believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. But

  686. for those who do that, for those Jews

  687. who do believe, God has still got a plan

  688. for them. God is still going to use

  689. them. And he has a special place for

  690. them in that eternal state. So believing

  691. Israel will be there. Number five, what

  692. will be in heaven? And we're almost

  693. finished. Just a few more. What will be

  694. in heaven? the 12 apostles will be there

  695. or at least their names, but we assume

  696. that they will be for sure. But notice

  697. in verse 14,

  698. the wall of the city had 12 foundations

  699. and in them the names of the 12 apostles

  700. of the lamb. And so this great city,

  701. this new new uh Jerusalem, this eternal

  702. city is in the foundation has the names

  703. of the twel apostles written.

  704. Now it it is interesting to think about

  705. what names exactly are going to be

  706. there. We know 11 of them for sure but

  707. Judas probably will not be included. And

  708. so if Judas is not included who takes

  709. his place uh most Bible scholars would

  710. in in our camps would argue that it

  711. would be the Apostle Paul would be the

  712. 12th name that would take Judas's place

  713. in the foundation.

  714. And so the apostles will be there.

  715. Number six, what will be there? What

  716. will be in the new new heaven and new

  717. earth? Unimaginable beauty will be

  718. there.

  719. Unimaginable beauty will be there. Verse

  720. 11, we read a moment ago, the glory of

  721. God. Her light was like unto a stone

  722. most precious, even like a jasper stone,

  723. clear as crystal. And then if you look

  724. down at verse number 18,

  725. and the building of the wall uh of it

  726. was of jasper, and the city was pure

  727. gold. Here it is. Like unto clear glass.

  728. The foundation of the wall of the city

  729. was garnished with all manner of

  730. precious stones. The foundation was

  731. jasper, and the second was sapphire, and

  732. the s third a chowedon, and the fourth

  733. an emerald. And and it continues all of

  734. these different precious stones that

  735. will make up the foundation. And then

  736. verse 21, the 12 gates. That's the the

  737. 12 gates of Israel that we already

  738. talked about. Those 12 gates uh are 12

  739. pearls. Every several gate was of one

  740. pearl. And the street of the city was

  741. pure gold and it was transparent glass.

  742. So the streets of gold that we talk

  743. about there, there will be streets of

  744. gold, but there it's going to be clear

  745. as glass. It'll be like you're walking

  746. on clear glass, but it'll be such pure

  747. gold. Now, they say that what makes gold

  748. yellow is actually its imperfections,

  749. its impurities. And if you could find a

  750. perfectly pure piece of gold, that it

  751. would be clear. I don't know if that's

  752. true or not. I will have to do more

  753. research on that. But it is interesting

  754. to think that if that is true, then

  755. heaven will be made of perfectly pure

  756. gold like mankind has never seen because

  757. it'll be clear and you'll be able to see

  758. straight through it. Unimaginable

  759. beauty. All of these different kinds of

  760. precious stones and the streets made of

  761. pure gold that's transparent and all of

  762. the city is made of pure gold, clear as

  763. glass. It's going to be an amazing

  764. amazing place.

  765. Number seven, what will be there? The

  766. nations will be there. Look at verse 24.

  767. And the nations of them which are saved

  768. shall walk in the light of it, and the

  769. kings of the earth do bring their glory

  770. and honor into it.

  771. Nations will be represented there in the

  772. eternal state. I I saw this today and I

  773. this is something that I don't think I

  774. had ever seen or thought about when

  775. thinking about heaven.

  776. I'm going to be an American

  777. forever.

  778. Nationality is eternal. I don't know why

  779. God thinks nationality is important, but

  780. I was born American. And it says that

  781. the nations will be represented. So I I

  782. can only assume that I'm going to be

  783. American for all of eternity. That God's

  784. going to somehow keep our national our

  785. nationality for the eternal state. I

  786. think that's amazing because I love

  787. America. It makes the blessing. Me and

  788. Dave were talking just before church

  789. tonight about how blessed we are to live

  790. in this country and be born in this

  791. country. And and it's not just for this

  792. life that I get to be American, but I

  793. get to be American for all of eternity.

  794. What a blessing that God would allow me

  795. to be born in this nation and and for I

  796. mean if you see that differently, I'd be

  797. happy to hear your take on that. But but

  798. it seems to me that nationality is

  799. eternal. That the nations will be

  800. represented in heaven and we'll be we'll

  801. be able to be American. By the way, I

  802. think that that gives us a great liberty

  803. to celebrate our nationality like we're

  804. going to do this weekend. What we're

  805. getting ready to do this weekend all

  806. across the country and in different

  807. ways, we're going to celebrate being

  808. American. We're going to celebrate 250

  809. years of the greatest nation on earth.

  810. And I think that's a good thing. I think

  811. nationality matters to God. And uh so

  812. we're going to celebrate on Sunday.

  813. We're going to decorate on Sunday. And

  814. we're going to celebrate being an

  815. American. And that doesn't replace being

  816. a Christian. I'm a Christian before I'm

  817. an American.

  818. But I am thankful that God's allowed me

  819. to be an American. I'm thankful for my

  820. nation. And then number eight, and this

  821. is final. We'll be finished right here.

  822. Number eight, what will be there?

  823. Perfect peace will be there. Perfect

  824. peace.

  825. Verse 25. The gates of it shall not be

  826. shut at all by day. The gates will

  827. always stay open.

  828. because there will be no enemies to keep

  829. out. Everyone will be in perfect peace,

  830. in perfect harmony. And this isn't just

  831. for a select period of time. This is for

  832. all of eternity forever and ever and

  833. ever and ever and ever and ever. I can't

  834. even comprehend that. It never ends.

  835. Forever, we will live in this city that

  836. is so unimaginable that anything we can

  837. think of or comprehend. It'll be a

  838. massive city. The dimensions are I

  839. skipped over those verses, but the

  840. dimensions are given to us in verse 16

  841. and 17. You can read about the size of

  842. the city. It's going to be clear as

  843. glass and and it's going to be made out

  844. of pure gold and it's going to have a

  845. foundation that's made out of diamonds

  846. and and it is going to be an

  847. unimaginable place to spend forever. If

  848. God can create all of this that we see

  849. today and we can wake up in the morning

  850. and we can watch the sun rise and it can

  851. literally take our breath away. How

  852. beautiful it is. And yet in this world

  853. there is so much sin and so much so much

  854. evil and so much wickedness. And yet God

  855. can still put a rainbow in the sky. And

  856. God can still paint beautiful portraits

  857. with a sunset. And God can still cause a

  858. little garden to grow out in the

  859. backyard and produce fruit. And we just

  860. look around and we see the handiwork of

  861. God all around us in this world. And and

  862. honestly, it's breathtaking. You go up

  863. on the Parkway and you pull over at an

  864. overlook and you just begin to look all

  865. the way across the vast expanse of

  866. landscape and and the mountains and the

  867. ridges and the rolling hills and the

  868. streams and it's just amazing. It's

  869. mind-blowing. It will take your breath

  870. away. And we talked about crying over

  871. good things. If you're emotional, it may

  872. even cause you to tear up and just say,

  873. "God, how good you are that you can do

  874. all of this and it will be completely

  875. destroyed

  876. because it's nothing compared to what

  877. God can do." And one day, you and I are

  878. going to be home in a place that God is

  879. preparing for you and I that is nothing

  880. like this world. Oh, we enjoy this world

  881. and we love what God has done here. But

  882. this world is is nothing compared to

  883. that place that God is going to prepare

  884. for us where everything will be good.

  885. Everything will be right. Everything

  886. will be perfect. Everything will be

  887. peaceful. No pain, no agony, no

  888. sickness. It'll be all good and glorious

  889. because we will dwell forever in the

  890. glory of God. Let that bring you hope

  891. and let that bring you some joy this

  892. week as you think about all that God's

  893. done here. But then think about all that

  894. God is going to do and we get to live

  895. forever in that place. Father, thank you

  896. for the word of God tonight. Thank you

  897. for uh what you have told us about

  898. heaven. Lord, there are many opinions

  899. out there about what heaven is going to

  900. be like.

  901. And we we don't know for sure what it's

  902. going to be like. All we know is what

  903. you have given us in your word. All we

  904. know is what you have told us in this

  905. chapter and in a few other places in

  906. scripture. Lord, I know this just based

  907. on this description of what not what is

  908. not going to be there and then what is

  909. going to be there. It's it's

  910. mindboggling. I I can't even comprehend

  911. how wonderful and glorious it's going to

  912. be. But I just want to say thank you

  913. that you have a plan. From the beginning

  914. of time, you knew how all of this would

  915. play out. You knew how it would all come

  916. to pass. And and from the beginning of

  917. it all, you had a plan on how it was

  918. going to end. And for the believer, for

  919. the one who has trusted Christ, it could

  920. not end any better than living in a

  921. glorious city

  922. in the glory of God. Lord, help us to to

  923. think on these things. Give us peace and

  924. comfort as we consider these things. May

  925. you be a blessing to our life and then

  926. also motivate us to share this with

  927. others and take as many people as we can

  928. to heaven with us. Lord, we love you. We

  929. thank you for how good you've been. And

  930. we ask all these things in Jesus
