  3. >> let's go to the book of Revelation.

  4. We're nearing the end of our study of

  5. the book of Revelation. Tonight we come

  6. to the last chapter of the book,

  7. Revelation chapter 22.

    Revelation 22 chapter mention

  8. And I want to talk to you tonight on the

  9. city of God, the city of God from

  10. Revelation 22. We're going to look at

  11. the first couple of verses tonight. And

  12. then next week, Lord willing, we'll

  13. finish it up. And uh next week or the

  14. week after will be the final

  15. message from this book, the great book

  16. of Revelation. I hope it's been an

  17. encouragement to you. And I encourage

  18. you go back. I As far as I know, every

  19. message, I think I have 30 This is the

  20. 37th message from the book of

  21. Revelation. And as far as I know,

  22. they're all on YouTube in a playlist

  23. together, so you can go back and watch

  24. all of them and and catch back up. If

  25. you read through the book of Revelation

  26. and you're ever thinking, "Well, I don't

  27. know what that means." Most likely we've

  28. preached through it or at least preached

  29. nearby to it, so you can get the

  30. context. And so that's all on there.

  31. That's available to you and for you. And

  32. so you take advantage of that.

  33. But tonight we come to Revelation

    Revelation 22 chapter mention

  34. chapter 22. We're going to look at the

  35. first five verses of the last chapter of

  36. the Bible.

  37. And we're talk about the city of God.

  38. Adrian Rogers said this. He said, "Some

  39. people criticize Christians for being so

  40. heavenly minded that they are no earthly

  41. good.

  42. However, many are so earthly minded that

  43. they are no good for heaven or earth."

  44. There's a lot of truth in that. Uh

  45. Christians sometimes are criticized for

  46. being so heavenly minded that they're no

  47. earthly good. Well, all you guys think

  48. about is heaven. All you guys talk about

  49. is what it's going to be one day. And I

  50. suppose that in some cases that is

  51. possible. But most of the time most

  52. Christians are so earthly minded still

  53. that we are no good to heaven or earth.

  54. Tonight I want us to think about heaven

  55. for a little bit. I want to turn our

  56. minds towards heaven for just a little

  57. bit. The Bible has much to say about

  58. heaven in Colossians chapter 3. I'll

    Colossians 3 chapter mention

  59. ramble off some verses here for you. You

  60. can write these down and look them up

  61. later if you'd like to. Colossians

    Colossians 3 chapter mention

  62. chapter 3 and verse 1 and 2 says, "If

  63. you then be risen with Christ, seek

  64. those things which are above, where

  65. Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.

  66. Set your affection on things above, not

  67. on things of the earth."

  68. The Bible tells us that it is a good

  69. thing to be heavenly minded. It is not

  70. wrong to think about heaven. It's a good

  71. thing to think about heaven. Matthew

    Matthew 6 chapter mention

  72. chapter 6 and verse 20 and 21,

  73. Sermon on the Mount, Jesus says, "But

  74. lay up for yourselves treasures in

  75. heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth

  76. corrupt, and where thieves do not break

  77. through nor steal. For where your

  78. treasure is, there will your heart be

  79. also."

  80. In Hebrews chapter 11 verse 8 and 10,

    Hebrews 11:8

  81. the writer of Hebrews tells us about

  82. Abraham. He says, "By faith Abraham,

  83. when he was called to go out into a

  84. place which he should after receive for

  85. an inheritance, obeyed. And he went out,

  86. not knowing whether he went. By faith he

  87. sojourned in the land of promise as in a

  88. strange country, dwelling in tabernacles

  89. with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him

  90. of the same promise." And verse 10 says,

  91. "For he looked for a city which hath

  92. foundations, whose builder and maker is

  93. God." Second Corinthians chapter 12,

    2 Corinthians 12 chapter mention

  94. Paul writes to the church of Corinth in

  95. verse number 2 through verse number 4.

  96. Paul's speaking of himself in the third

  97. person. He says, "I knew a man in Christ

  98. above 14 years ago." And he says this,

  99. "Whether in the body I cannot tell, or

  100. whether out of the body I cannot tell,

  101. God knoweth. But such a one was called

  102. up to the third heaven." Paul is saying,

  103. "I There was a time in my life where I

  104. got called up to heaven. I don't know if

  105. I was in the spirit or in the body. I

  106. don't know what was going on, but God

  107. knows. But I know I went up and I saw

  108. heaven.

  109. Verse three says, "And I knew such a

  110. man, whether in the body or out of the

  111. body, I cannot tell. God knoweth how

  112. that he was called up into paradise and

  113. heard unspeakable words, which it is not

  114. lawful for a man to utter."

  115. Paul was called up to heaven. He saw

  116. some of these things that John is seeing

  117. now in the book of Revelation.

  118. Peter talks about it in 2 Peter in

  119. chapter 3 and verse 12 and 13. Peter

  120. writes, "Looking for and hasting unto

  121. the coming of the day of God, wherein

  122. the heavens being on fire shall be

  123. dissolved and the elements shall melt

  124. with fervent heat. Nevertheless, we,

  125. according to his promise, look for new

  126. heavens and a new earth, wherein

  127. dwelleth righteousness."

  128. And then perhaps the most well-known of

  129. all of the passages in the Bible that

  130. speak of heaven is John chapter 14,

    John 14 chapter mention

  131. where Jesus is speaking and he says,

  132. "Let not your heart be troubled. You

  133. believe in God, believe also in me.

  134. In my father's house are many mansions.

  135. If it were not so, I would have told

  136. you. I go to prepare a place for you,

  137. and if I go and prepare a place for you,

  138. I will come again and receive you unto

  139. myself that where I am, there you may be

  140. also."

  141. God is preparing a place for you and I

  142. to dwell for all of eternity. God is

  143. building a new heaven and a new earth.

  144. He's building a great city, the city of

  145. God, that one day is going to be lowered

  146. down onto a new earth, and you and I are

  147. going to dwell in the city of God and on

  148. this new earth that God is going to

  149. create, and it's going to be wonderful.

  150. Tonight we are still celebrating. We're

  151. still in the theme of 4th of July, and

  152. we celebrate America. We did that on

  153. Sunday, and we had a fantastic service.

  154. We praised God for all that he did this

  155. last Sunday in our hearts and and

  156. praised the Lord for how he used Brother

  157. Ben on Sunday.

  158. And I'm as American as anybody. I love

  159. to celebrate America. I'm as patriotic

  160. as anybody else. I'm thankful and

  161. grateful that God has allowed me to be a

  162. citizen of what I truly believe to be

  163. the greatest nation that has ever

  164. existed, the United States of America. I

  165. love the beauty of America. I love hot

  166. dogs and hamburgers. I like to watch

  167. fireworks explode and light up the sky.

  168. I like driving over this nation and I

  169. enjoy driving and taking road trips just

  170. to see what I might see. I like to see

  171. the sights and see the country and see

  172. the United States of America. It's

  173. beautiful. It's one of the most

  174. beautiful places in the world. I like

  175. taking a hike and just hiking up to the

  176. top of a ridge just to see what's on the

  177. other side of it. Just to see the view.

  178. Just to see what's out there.

  179. I like to sit by body of water and soak

  180. up the sunshine and try and catch fish

  181. and just enjoy the creation that God has

  182. allowed us to live in. What a beautiful

  183. nation that we have. I I love Bucky's

  184. and I love Chick-fil-A. The I think

  185. they're two most American things that on

  186. the in all of America. I'm as American

  187. as anybody else, but tonight

  188. as grateful as I am to be an American, I

  189. am a citizen of another country.

  190. I am a citizen of another city and as

  191. much as I love America and being an

  192. American, I love this other city that

  193. much more. I am so much more thankful

  194. and so much more grateful to be a

  195. citizen of a heavenly city, a new city,

  196. the city of God. If you think America is

  197. beautiful, you haven't seen anything

  198. else. This place that God is preparing

  199. for you and I, this city of God is a

  200. beautiful city. It's a celestial city.

  201. It's an amazing city. It's a

  202. mind-blowing city. It's a perfect city.

  203. It's unimaginable in every way. It has

  204. streets that are paved with gold that is

  205. so pure. It's clear as crystal and you

  206. can see right through it. It flows with

  207. the the river of life and it has on the

  208. sides of the river the tree of life that

  209. is sprouting and it has the foundation

  210. that is made out of these diamonds and

  211. rubies and precious stones and precious

  212. metals. It has walls that are

  213. orchestrated to just show the glory of

  214. God with 12 gates all the way around the

  215. city and the gates stay open all the

  216. time because there's no night in this

  217. city and there's no light needed because

  218. the glory of God lights the city. It's

  219. going to be an unimaginable place.

  220. There's no way for us to to describe it

  221. and understand it in our human minds,

  222. but I am thankful that Jesus said in

  223. John chapter 14, "I go to prepare a

    John 14 chapter mention

  224. place for you. And if I go to prepare a

  225. place, I will come again." And tonight I

  226. am thankful for the reality of the city

  227. of God. There is a day coming where you

  228. and I will step foot into the into the

  229. city of God, this nation, this country,

  230. this new heaven, this new earth that God

  231. is preparing for us right now.

  232. I want to talk about it for just a few

  233. moments tonight from Revelation chapter

    Revelation 22 chapter mention

  234. 22. Look at verse number one.

  235. And he showed me, John is writing, the

  236. Apostle John, "And he showed me a pure

  237. river of water of life, clear as

  238. crystal, proceeding out of the throne of

  239. God and of the lamb. And in the midst of

  240. the street of it and on either side of

  241. the river there was the tree of life

  242. which bear 12 manner of fruits and

  243. yielded her fruit every month. And the

  244. leaves of the tree were for the healing

  245. of the nations. And there shall be no

  246. more curse, but the throne of God and

  247. the lamb shall be in it and his servants

  248. shall serve him. And they shall see his

  249. face and his name shall be in their

  250. foreheads. And there shall be no night

  251. there in there and they need no candle,

  252. neither light of the sun for the Lord

  253. God giveth them light. And they shall

  254. reign forever and ever." Number one,

  255. write down what we see. We're going to

  256. see two, uh aspects, two components of

  257. the city of God tonight. We'll see the

  258. garden of heaven, and then we'll see the

  259. glory of heaven. So, write down number

  260. one, the garden of heaven.

  261. In verse number one, verse number two,

  262. we see God describing this garden. In

  263. Genesis chapter one, mankind began in a

  264. garden. And one day, mankind's eternal

  265. state will be in a garden. Think about

  266. the garden of Eden. There was in that

  267. garden a river that flowed through it,

  268. and there was also a tree in it. You

  269. remember the river? There was actually

  270. several rivers that went through the

  271. garden of Eden. So, in heaven, this

  272. final destination, our eternal state,

  273. there will be a river, and there will be

  274. a tree in this eternal garden. The first

  275. we see in verse one, we see the river of

  276. life. I love a river.

  277. Uh we actually just got to go to the

  278. river on Monday. We did some work

  279. Monday, uh Monday afternoon, and then we

  280. decided, you know, well, we're just

  281. going to take off, and we're going to go

  282. down to the river, and we're just going

  283. to have a good time. And so, that's what

  284. we did. We just loaded up the van and

  285. went down to the river, and we caught

  286. some smallmouth bass, and and we watched

  287. the sunset, and it was just a beautiful,

  288. wonderful time. And I'm sitting there

  289. thinking, man, I love the river. It's a

  290. place that gives a life. It's a place

  291. that is invigorating. It's life-giving.

  292. There's something exciting about

  293. watching the river move and flow over

  294. the rocks, and watching the sunset, and

  295. it's just beautiful, and it's it's

  296. invigorating, and it's refreshing to be

  297. at the river. And in heaven,

  298. there is a river that flows through the

  299. city of God, and it's called the river

  300. of life. Now, I am not going to pretend

  301. to understand everything about this

  302. river. It may not even be like a river

  303. like we know on this earth. It could be.

  304. I don't know anything about it. But one

  305. of these days, we're going to see it.

  306. And the Bible calls it the river of

  307. life, so I'm inclined to believe it's

  308. some type of river. And it's flowing

  309. through the city. Most uh major cities

  310. are built near or on a river because the

  311. river produces life. The movement of the

  312. water produces uh life. And so, most

  313. cities will be built either near or on a

  314. river. However, as that city develops,

  315. you know this is true, the river will

  316. become dirty and polluted.

  317. As that city develops, it will begin to

  318. pollute the beautiful natural river that

  319. it's built beside. But this river, the

  320. one that is in heaven, the one that is

  321. in the city of God, will flow clear as

  322. crystal for all of eternity. It cannot

  323. be polluted because the city of God

  324. cannot be polluted. There is no

  325. pollution in the city of God. And it

  326. cannot pollute to the river of life.

  327. It'll never be polluted. It'll never be

  328. dirty. It'll never be brown. It'll

  329. always be clear as crystal flowing

  330. through the city of God. And then it

  331. says that it flows from the throne of

  332. God. The headwater of this river is the

  333. throne of God. The origin of this river

  334. is

  335. the giver of life himself.

  336. The very thing that moves this river is

  337. God himself. And so, we see in heaven,

  338. there's going to be a river of life. But

  339. then in verse two, we see there is going

  340. to be a tree of life.

  341. Trees are life-giving organisms

  342. themselves.

  343. A tree is what creates the air that we

  344. breathe to maintain everyday life. And

  345. this tree of life is I encourage you, do

  346. some study on the tree of life. Get you

  347. some good

  348. uh some good commentaries or some good

  349. preachers and Bible teachers and do some

  350. do some study on the tree of life. It's

  351. very interesting.

  352. The tree of life that is in heaven, I've

  353. not uh

  354. I won't say that I know everything about

  355. it. Certainly don't. But

  356. uh I don't understand everything about

  357. this tree. But there are some very neat

  358. things that the Bible points out for us.

  359. We know that trees all around us, you

  360. look you walk outside and there's trees

  361. all the way around. And those trees

  362. create oxygen. They create the air that

  363. we breathe. And so in a sense, trees are

  364. what maintains the life on this earth.

  365. If there were no trees, then there would

  366. be no air to breathe or at least there

  367. would be less air to breathe. And so

  368. trees play a part in producing

  369. or maintaining rather our life. So then

  370. this tree of life

  371. that is in heaven is going to maintain a

  372. sort of life. And I'm going to show you

  373. how here in just a moment. Uh trees

  374. today they produce fruit for us to eat.

  375. They produce air for us to breathe. And

  376. this tree that is in heaven, the tree of

  377. life, will produce heavenly fruit every

  378. month of the year.

  379. It's going to produce 12 different kinds

  380. of fruit.

  381. And give us great variety.

  382. And uh I don't know, listen, in heaven

  383. we're going to have a glorified body. So

  384. uh there really won't be a need you'll

  385. have to eat. But perhaps God allows us

  386. to eat just because he knows we like it.

  387. Maybe he'll allow us to to taste the

  388. fruit off of the tree of life. I'm not

  389. sure. But I know it's going to be

  390. wonderful. It's going to produce fruit,

  391. different types of fruit for every month

  392. of the year.

  393. And then it says that it's going to heal

  394. the nations. And this is

  395. This is a phrase that there are as many

  396. different ideas about how to interpret

  397. this phrase as you can look up, okay?

  398. Everybody has an opinion about this

  399. phrase and it doesn't seem like anybody

  400. agrees. So I'm going to give you my

  401. opinion cuz if they can give you their

  402. opinion, I can give you my opinion. And

  403. that's all the same. You can pick which

  404. one you like, all right? So verse number

  405. two though is an interesting verse. It's

  406. a very difficult verse to to exegete,

  407. especially this last phrase where it

  408. says the leaves of the tree were for the

  409. healing of the nations.

  410. Now you thinking about this celestial

  411. city, this eventual eternal state that

  412. we're going to live in, and there is

  413. growing in this place this tree of life

  414. that's growing out of and around the

  415. river of life. And it says that this

  416. tree, the leaves of this tree, provide

  417. healing for the nations. Your mind is

  418. probably already thinking healing from

  419. what?

  420. Because heaven is perfect. There's

  421. nothing to be healed from. There is no

  422. sin. There is no sickness. There There

  423. is no disease. There's no illness.

  424. There's no ailments. Everything is

  425. perfect in heaven. It's a wonderful

  426. place. So, what are we being healed

  427. from?

  428. Well, the word that is used, the Greek

  429. word behind the word that we see, we see

  430. the word healing in our King James

  431. Bible, the word behind that, the Greek

  432. word behind that, is the word we get our

  433. English word therapy from.

  434. It's the word that It's the Greek word

  435. that our English word therapy comes

  436. from.

  437. So, when we think about this tree of

  438. life, we should not think of it as a

  439. tree that heals us from sickness because

  440. there is no sickness in heaven. There

  441. There is nothing in heaven to be healed

  442. from, but rather it is a therapeutic

  443. tree. And just as a tree outside here

  444. maintains life by producing oxygen, so

  445. the tree of life is going to produce

  446. something in its leaves that will help

  447. maintain

  448. the perfect atmosphere in heaven.

  449. It will maintain. It will provide

  450. therapy. It will be life-giving. Maybe

  451. we could say it that way. It will be a

  452. life-giving tree. In fact, its very name

  453. is the tree of life.

  454. And in some way, and I don't know

  455. exactly how it works, but in some way

  456. this tree of life will produce from its

  457. leaves uh a therapy that will produce

  458. and give life to the heavenly city, the

  459. city of God. It indicates for us that

  460. this is a tree that produces blessing

  461. and joy and contentment and happiness,

  462. something in this tree provides these

  463. things and and allows us to live in an

  464. eternal state where these things are

  465. abundant.

  466. Therefore, it is a tree that produces

  467. and maintains life. So, we see the river

  468. of life, we see the tree of life. This

  469. is the garden of heaven. But then notice

  470. number two tonight, we see the glory of

  471. heaven.

  472. In verse three down through to verse

  473. five, we see several things listed that

  474. are

  475. indicators of the glory of heaven, and

  476. rather we say the glory of God in

  477. heaven. God's glory will be on full

  478. display, and we see a few things that

  479. will indicate that. First of all, in

  480. verse three, the glory of heaven is

  481. shown to us because sin is absent. Look

  482. at what it says in verse three, "And

  483. there shall be no more curse."

  484. No more curse. In chapter 21 and verse

  485. number four, where John is first

  486. describing this city,

  487. he says that God shall wipe away all

  488. tears from their eyes, and there shall

  489. be no more death, neither sorrow, nor

  490. crying, neither shall there be any more

  491. pain, for the former things are passed

  492. away. Why is that possible? You realize

  493. everything that John listed there, all

  494. of those things, the reason that we

  495. experience death and sorrow and crying

  496. and pain, all of that is the result of

  497. sin. The sin, the curse of sin on this

  498. world has produced pain and agony and

  499. turmoil and sorrow and grief and guilt

  500. and all of the things that we struggle

  501. with in our human flesh is the result of

  502. sin. So, in chapter 21 and verse number

  503. four, John can write confidently that

  504. those things will be absent because when

  505. he gets to chapter 22 and verse number

  506. three, he said the reason those things

  507. are absent is because the curse is

  508. absent. There's no more sin, there's no

  509. more curse from sin.

  510. Today, many people will try and argue,

  511. "How can How can a a righteous God How

  512. can a loving God allow bad things to

  513. happen?"

  514. And there's many answers to that, but

  515. but really the question is faulty.

  516. It's not God that's allowing things to

  517. happen, it's sin that is choosing those

  518. things to happen. And God is sovereign

  519. enough and loving enough to give man a

  520. choice.

  521. And man chooses sin, and it is the

  522. result of sin that has cursed our world.

  523. But in that place, God's glory will be

  524. on full display. There will be nothing

  525. that will hinder or shadow or shade the

  526. glory of God because there will be no

  527. curse. But notice what else there will

  528. be. Sin will be absent, and so we see

  529. the glory of God, but then also servants

  530. will be serving.

  531. Which will allow us to see the glory of

  532. God. In In verse number three, chapter

  533. 22,

  534. "There shall be no more curse, but the

  535. throne of God and of the Lamb shall be

  536. in it, and his servants shall serve

  537. him." And then if you look at verse

  538. number five, the very last phrase of

  539. verse five, "And they shall reign

  540. forever and ever."

  541. Servants will be serving. You and I, the

  542. servants of Jesus Christ, will still be

  543. serving Jesus Christ. We'll still be

  544. worshipping. We'll still be working. You

  545. and I will have a job in that city.

  546. Isn't that interesting? I don't know

  547. what our job will be, but we will gladly

  548. serve in the glory of our Savior. It

  549. will not be a chore. It will not be a

  550. burden to serve, but we will serve

  551. cheerfully and gladly because everything

  552. in that city will be perfect. God's

  553. going to give us a job. By the way,

  554. these do not contradict each other. No

  555. more curse and the fact that there will

  556. be jobs actually

  557. That's not a contradiction at all

  558. because work was not a part of the

  559. curse.

  560. If you go back to Genesis and you read

  561. Genesis chapter 2, I think it's in verse

    Genesis 2 chapter mention

  562. number 15 of Genesis chapter 2,

    Genesis 2 chapter mention

  563. God gives Adam a work to do. He said,

  564. "Go keep the garden. Go dress the

  565. garden. Go work in the garden." That's

  566. Genesis 2. I think it's verse 15. Then

  567. you go to Genesis chapter 3 and that's

    Genesis 3 chapter mention

  568. where Satan shows up. Genesis chapter 3

    Genesis 3 chapter mention

  569. is where sin shows up. Before sin ever

  570. entered the garden, there was a job for

  571. man to do. Work is not part of the

  572. curse.

  573. Laziness is.

  574. God gave man a job and it is a good

  575. thing to work. And one day, when we get

  576. to our eternal state, when we're living

  577. in the perfect city of God, we will

  578. still be serving Jesus. I don't know

  579. what job he's going to give us to do,

  580. but there's going to be a work for you

  581. and I to be involved in and we'll be

  582. able to work in that great city.

  583. Another thing that indicates the glory

  584. of God for us is that the savior will be

  585. present. Oh, this is what makes heaven

  586. heaven. Look at verse number 3. That

  587. there shall be no more curse, but the

  588. throne of God and of the lamb shall be

  589. in it.

  590. Then look at verse number 4.

  591. This is maybe one of my favorite verses

  592. about heaven in all of the Bible.

  593. And they shall see his face.

  594. And his name shall be written on their

  595. foreheads.

  596. Aren't you looking forward to the day

  597. when you look upon the face

  598. of your savior? Jesus is going to be

  599. there. Jesus is what makes heaven

  600. heaven. Without the presence of the

  601. savior, there would be no joy in heaven.

  602. There would be no happiness. There would

  603. be no river of life. There'd be no life

  604. at all, because he is the giver of life.

  605. Colossians says he created all things

  606. and by him all things consist. He's the

  607. one who is the giver of life. And the

  608. river of life flows from his throne. The

  609. tree of life blossoms from the river.

  610. And everything that is makes heaven

  611. heaven is centered around the fact that

  612. Jesus is there.

  613. The savior will be present in heaven.

  614. You and I will look upon his face. One

  615. day we'll look on the face of the one

  616. who died to pay for our sin, who took on

  617. himself the punishment and the judgment

  618. and the wrath of God so that you and I,

  619. guilty sinners, might go free. And what

  620. a day that's going to be when we will

  621. bow before his throne. We will serve him

  622. in gladness and we will look upon the

  623. face of our wonderful redeemer.

  624. So, the savior will be present. I'm

  625. almost finished. Let me give you one

  626. more. From verse number five, what

  627. indicates the glory of God?

  628. The shining will be brilliant. There is

  629. going to be a brilliant light, a

  630. brilliant shining forth of the glory of

  631. God. Look at what it says in verse

  632. number five. There shall be no night

  633. there.

  634. And they don't need a candle.

  635. Neither do they need the light of the

  636. sun.

  637. For the Lord God himself giveth them

  638. light.

  639. The whole city is going to be lit up

  640. with the glory of God. God's glory will

  641. provide plenty of light for that city.

  642. That glorious city, that wonderful city,

  643. that city that God is preparing right

  644. now for you and I. John chapter 14,

    John 14 chapter mention

  645. remember what it says. Jesus said, "I go

  646. to prepare a place." What is that place

  647. that he's preparing? He is preparing the

  648. city of God that one day is going to

  649. descend out of the sky and land on a new

  650. earth and you and I will get to dwell in

  651. that city will be illuminated with the

  652. glory of God. You won't be able to get

  653. away from it. You will not be able to

  654. hide from it. There will be no shadows

  655. in that city. There will be no place

  656. where you can can hide or or commit sin.

  657. You won't even desire to commit sin.

  658. You'll have a glorified body and in your

  659. glorified body, you will forever and

  660. ever and ever dwell in the beautiful,

  661. brilliant glory of our God. That's the

  662. glory of heaven. That's what makes it so

  663. special. Sometimes we think about

  664. heaven.

  665. And we think, man, what am I going to do

  666. when I get to heaven?

  667. And when you begin to think about it, it

  668. it's a good question cuz we don't know.

  669. We've never been there. Somebody once

  670. said, I what am I going to do in heaven?

  671. I can't play basketball cuz everybody

  672. will make every shot. It won't be no fun

  673. at all.

  674. It's going to be a perfect place.

  675. It's going to be a brilliant city.

  676. And what are we going to do?

  677. We're going to kneel at the feet of our

  678. savior. We're going to serve our savior.

  679. We're going to worship our savior. We're

  680. going to dwell in the glory of our

  681. savior and all will be right.

  682. Everything's going to be okay. Jesus

  683. said in Matthew chapter 5 and verse

    Matthew 5 chapter mention

  684. number 12,

  685. Jesus said these words, rejoice

  686. and be exceeding glad

  687. for great is your reward in heaven.

  688. Rejoice and be exceeding glad for great

  689. is your reward in heaven.

  690. I was counseling this week in my office

  691. just a few days ago, yesterday actually,

  692. I believe.

  693. And someone who is facing a great deal

  694. of emotional and physical struggle and

  695. battle. They don't they don't attend our

  696. church, but

  697. they had come and was asking

  698. some questions and we were discussing

  699. these things and as we discussed the

  700. situations and the problems that they're

  701. going through in their life, I shared

  702. with them that the greatest problems of

  703. this life one day,

  704. that day when they get to heaven, the

  705. biggest issue that they're facing in

  706. this life will seem so silly,

  707. so insignificant.

  708. In fact, there's part of me, and I don't

  709. know if this is true or not, there's

  710. part of me that thinks we won't even

  711. remember it.

  712. We won't even remember it. We won't even

  713. think about the greatest trial that we

  714. ever went through on this earth. The

  715. greatest battle, the greatest loss, the

  716. greatest grief,

  717. it was such a big deal in that moment,

  718. but when that day,

  719. when we look upon the face of our

  720. savior,

  721. it will seem as if it never even

  722. happened. It will be so small and so

  723. silly and so insignificant in that

  724. moment. Great is your reward in heaven.

  725. There's coming a day

  726. in which everything will be all right.

  727. Jesus will make all things new and you

  728. and I will get to live in the glory of

  729. God. I thought about this song and I

  730. want you to sing it with me. I thought

  731. that uh I think you'll know this song,

  732. this chorus, and I want us to sing it

  733. together. If I can get us started on the

  734. right key, all right?

  735. It will be worth

  736. it all

  737. when we see Jesus.

  738. Lives trials will seem so small

  739. when we see Christ.

  740. One glimpse of his dear face,

  741. all sorrow

  742. will erase.

  743. So bravely

  744. run the race

  745. till we see Christ.

  746. Hey, stay with it. There is a hope.

  747. There is heaven that is on the other

  748. side and it will be worth it all when we

  749. see Jesus. Let's pray and thank the Lord

  750. for our heavenly home. Father,

  751. Lord, we love you and we thank you for

  752. what you revealed to the Apostle John to

  753. write down to give us hope.

  754. Father, may we be more heavenly minded.

  755. May we lay up our treasures in heaven.

  756. May we look to heaven. May we have a

  757. great hope. As you said in Matthew in

  758. chapter 5, help us to rejoice because we

  759. know great is our reward in heaven.

  760. There's coming a great day where we will

  761. enter into the eternal state. We'll

  762. enter into the city of God and it will

  763. be glory glorious for all of eternity.

  764. And I pray that you would encourage our

  765. hearts with that truth through the rest

  766. of this week.

  767. Lord, I pray that you would be with us

  768. now as we go our different ways. Bring

  769. us back here on Sunday, Father. Bless

  770. the ladies meeting on Saturday. And I

  771. pray that you would do a great great

  772. work on this coming Sunday. I pray that

  773. everything that's done would point

  774. people to Jesus. Bring guest. Bring back

  775. folks who haven't been in a while. And

  776. help us to sing and worship you and then

  777. help me as I preach on Sunday. Lord,

  778. fill me with your spirit. And I just

  779. pray that your holy presence would dwell

  780. in this place. I pray that maybe just

  781. maybe you'd give us a glimpse of what

  782. it's going to be like on that day as we

  783. gather here on Sunday.

  784. We'll give you the glory and the praise

  785. for all that you have done and we praise

  786. you on credit for all that you're going

  787. to do. We ask these things in Jesus

  788. name. Amen.
