  1. Here's the title this morning if you're

  2. taking notes. If you'd like to take

  3. notes, the title of the sermon is simply

  4. this. Fighting for your family. Fighting

  5. for your family. You know how it goes.

  6. It's a story that's been repeated over

  7. and over and over throughout history.

  8. Movies have been made about it.

  9. Corporations have been established

  10. because of it. Businesses have been

  11. built on it. Stories have been written

  12. because of it. And the entire entire

  13. worlds seemingly have been created

  14. because of this same story.

  15. Something like this. A kingdom exists

  16. and within that kingdom is a beautiful

  17. princess girl. Therefore the threat

  18. again there is a threat against the

  19. kingdom and no one is brave enough to go

  20. and defeat the enemy. No one is strong

  21. enough to go and defeat the threat.

  22. And somehow usually the girl will get

  23. captured by the enemy. And then here

  24. comes the knight in shining armor. And

  25. this knight shows up and he fights the

  26. enemy and he defeats the enemy. And then

  27. you know the sentence or the phrase they

  28. fall in love and get married and live

  29. happily ever after. We see some

  30. rendition of this story over and over

  31. and over. In fact, it may be the most

  32. repeated story of all time. some aspect

  33. of it. Disney World was built on this

  34. story and it goes over and over and this

  35. story is not so different from the story

  36. that we read in our text this morning in

  37. Joshua chapter 15. Now, before I get

    Joshua 15 chapter mention

  38. there, I've got to lay just a little bit

  39. of groundwork and give you the big

  40. context. So, we're preaching through the

  41. book of Joshua. This morning, I'm taking

  42. a small portion of verses from chapter

  43. 15 and and then next week we're moving

  44. into chapter 16. We're skipping a lot of

  45. verses. The reason is because these

  46. verses that we're skipping over are um

  47. uh the description of the division of

  48. the land. Chapter 1 through 5 of Joshua,

  49. they're preparing the people to go into

  50. the promised land. Chapters 6 through

  51. 12, they're entering the promised land.

  52. And now we're on the end of that. Now

  53. they're in the promised land. The main

  54. group, the main central ground has been

  55. conquered. And now it's up to the

  56. individual tribes to finish driving out

  57. the inhabitants of their allotment of

  58. land. And in Joshua chapter 15, you will

    Joshua 15 chapter mention

  59. find the divisions, the boundaries for

  60. the tribe of Judah. And it'll lay out

  61. where their boundaries are and what they

  62. uh what land they possess, the tribe of

  63. Judah. Now, within all of this, this

  64. division of land and all of these

  65. boundaries and the names of these cities

  66. and and really a lot of things that are

  67. hard to pronounce, there is in the

  68. middle of all of this in verse 13 of

  69. Joshua chapter 15, this little

    Joshua 15 chapter mention

  70. narrative. This little story jumps to

  71. our attention, and it's the one that I

  72. want us to focus on this morning that

  73. Caleb has just conquered. Caleb is the

  74. the figure we talked about last week.

  75. He's just conquered the surrounding land

  76. and the city of Hebron for the tribe of

  77. Judah. He's then in he's gotten his

  78. inheritance. And now he identifies

  79. another city, another enemy that lies

  80. ahead. It's the city of Debur. Now it's

  81. also called Kerjaf Sephir. Um so you

  82. could call it either one. It's called

  83. both in our text. However, this time

  84. Caleb, you remember Caleb from chapter

  85. 14, just a chapter ago. What did Caleb

  86. do? goes to Joshua, 85 years old, goes

  87. to Joshua, says, "I'm as strong as I was

  88. 40 years ago. Give me this mountain. I

  89. want to go conquer this land." And so

  90. that was chapter 14. Now we get to

  91. chapter 15 and there's another city and

  92. and Caleb's not so eager to go. Maybe he

  93. wore himself out. I'm not sure what

  94. happened. He thought, "Wow, that was a

  95. lot harder than I thought it was going

  96. to be." But this time he says, "I'm 85

  97. years old. I'm going to let one of these

  98. young guys do it. There's an enemy.

  99. There's a city. The city of Dur. It

  100. needs to be conquered. Those guys need

  101. to be defeated. And so here's what I'm

  102. going to do. I'm going to make an

  103. announcement. And whoever the young man

  104. is that can go and defeat the city of

  105. Kirjifer, I will give to that man my

  106. daughter to be his wife. So you have the

  107. story. You have the enemy outside of the

  108. kingdom. You have the beautiful princess

  109. girl. And then there is a young man who

  110. rises to the challenge. His name is

  111. Anneil. And he's going to go and he's

  112. going to defeat the city of Debor.

  113. and literally

  114. literally fights for his family. It is

  115. with his victory over the city, his

  116. victory over the enemy, his victory over

  117. the giants that live there that now he

  118. is able to build his family. I don't

  119. want to do a disservice to the text this

  120. morning. Uh, and I don't want to

  121. overallize anything this morning, but I

  122. do think the applications I'm getting

  123. ready to give you are here in the text.

  124. And so I want to just make a couple of

  125. simple and very practical applications

  126. from this narrative in Joshua chapter 15

    Joshua 15 chapter mention

  127. that I think will help you and I fight

  128. for our families in our culture. Can we

  129. look at it together? Verse 13 of Joshua

  130. 15. By the way, if you want to make a

  131. little note on the off to the side, this

  132. exact same narrative is repeated in

  133. Judges chapter 1 verse 12- 16. You can

    Judges 1:12–16

  134. find the exact same story written there.

  135. We'll begin reading in verse 13.

  136. And unto Caleb the son of Japune, he

  137. gave a part among the children of Judah

  138. according to the commandment of the Lord

  139. to Joshua, even the city of Arba, the

  140. father of Anch, which is the city of

  141. Hebron. And Caleb, verse 14, Caleb drove

  142. then the three sons of Anch, Shishi and

  143. a high man, and Talmi, the children of

  144. Anch. So he drives them out of Hebron.

  145. And he went up then to the inhabitants

  146. of Durr. And the name of Deborr was

  147. before Kirjath Cifir.

  148. And Caleb said, "He that smiteth Kirjath

  149. Sephir, and taketh it, to him will I

  150. give Oxa my daughter to wife."

  151. And Oel the son of Kenaz, the brother of

  152. Caleb, took it, and he gave Oxa his

  153. wife, Oxa, his daughter, to wife. Now,

  154. if you pay co close attention to the the

  155. relationship of Oneal and Caleb and all

  156. of the things going on, you'll come to

  157. the conclusion that what we have here in

  158. this story is a case of kissing cousins.

  159. Now, don't be alarmed by that. It was a

  160. very different time back then than it is

  161. today. And the things were permitted

  162. back then that are not so uh permitted

  163. today. Um just go to West Virginia. It

  164. still exists some. Okay. Um so, don't be

  165. alarmed by that. If you figured that

  166. out, you looked at that, don't be

  167. alarmed by that. Different time,

  168. different culture, different things were

  169. accepted than what are today. So, let me

  170. give you these things how to fight for

  171. your family. You ready? Number one,

  172. there must be a priority of God's word.

  173. There is first of all the priority of

  174. God's word. In verse 13, we see this

  175. phrase according to the commandment of

  176. the Lord to Joshua. Now, this took place

  177. years before. Caleb is 85 years old.

  178. Joshua is at least 90 years old at this

  179. time and and years before the word of

  180. the Lord came to them and it told them

  181. the land that Judah was going to get.

  182. God had already laid all of this out.

  183. And so what are they doing? They're

  184. simply abiding by what God has already

  185. said. Generations before comes on the

  186. sea scene years before Oxa is ever born.

  187. There is a dad. There is a man who said

  188. I'm going to abide by God's word. we

  189. mentioned last week. I'll remind you

  190. this morning that there are six places

  191. in the Old Testament. Three of them are

  192. in Joshua chapter 14 where the Bible

    Joshua 14 chapter mention

  193. says of this man Caleb that he wholly

  194. followed the Lord. Caleb had a testimony

  195. that he was going to follow what God had

  196. said. Caleb had a testimony from years

  197. prior all the way up until he was an old

  198. man that he was going to do what God had

  199. told him to do. No one could change his

  200. mind. No one could talk him out of it.

  201. He was going to obey God's word. And

  202. what we need in our culture today are

  203. some dads and some moms and some

  204. grandmas and some grandpas and some

  205. aunts and some uncles who will say, "In

  206. my home and in my family, we will abide

  207. by God's word. Nobody's going to talk me

  208. out of it. Nobody's going to change my

  209. mind. Nobody's going to give me an

  210. excuse. I understand the Bible is God's

  211. truth. It's God's love letter to man. I

  212. will abide with God's word. I'm going to

  213. prioritize it in my life. I'm going to

  214. prioritize it in my family. I'm going to

  215. prioritize it by attending church. I

  216. will abide by what God's word has said.

  217. A couple things will happen. And we

  218. notice them from verse 13 and 14. Number

  219. one, if you abide by God's word, if you

  220. will prioritize God's word in your

  221. family, number one, there will be

  222. blessings.

  223. Notice what he says in verse number 13.

  224. Caleb, unto Caleb, the son of Japune, he

  225. gave the part among the children of

  226. Judah. Here's this man who follows the

  227. Lord, who who obeys what God has said,

  228. who prioritizes God's word in his home

  229. and prioritizes God's word in his

  230. family. And what does he receive? He

  231. receives the blessing of the land. They

  232. give under Caleb this lot, this

  233. allotment of land and said, "This is for

  234. the tribe of Judah, Caleb."

  235. And this morning, I want to let you know

  236. that if you will prioritize God's word

  237. in your life, there will be blessings

  238. that are unexplainable in your life.

  239. Now, I'm not health and wealth preacher,

  240. and that's not what I'm preaching. I'm

  241. not saying you're going to get wealthy

  242. and you're going to get healthy and

  243. everything's going to work out fine if

  244. you read your Bible every day. No. The

  245. Bible said, Jesus said that in this

  246. world you will have tribulation. There's

  247. going to be trouble and there's going to

  248. be heartaches and there's going to be

  249. trials. But there is a blessing that

  250. comes with the word of God that will be

  251. unexplainable. There will be a peace

  252. that passes all understanding in your

  253. life. Uh that there will be a joy that

  254. comes over your spirit. There will be

  255. strength that comes over you. There will

  256. be blessings, spiritual blessings far

  257. greater than any material blessing that

  258. will come into your life if you will

  259. make a decision to prioritize God's word

  260. in your family. But not only do we see

  261. blessings, second, we see that if you

  262. will prioritize God's word, then you'll

  263. be blessed with boldness. Look at verse

  264. 14. And Caleb drove thence the three

  265. sons of Anch. Now these sons of Anch are

  266. described for us in other places as

  267. being giants.

  268. These are we know the story of David and

  269. Goliath. This is a whole city of

  270. Goliaths.

  271. A whole city of giants. And here's an

  272. 85year-old man who goes into the city of

  273. Hebron and drives out the giants. It

  274. doesn't make sense in our human mind.

  275. How how could that be possible? because

  276. he was wholly following the Lord. And

  277. there are giants that are going to come

  278. into your family. There are giants that

  279. are going to come into your life. And if

  280. you are not prioritizing God's word, you

  281. will at the very best become distracted.

  282. At the very worst, you'll become

  283. completely destroyed

  284. because you're not focused and

  285. prioritizing what God has said to

  286. prioritize. Oh, that we would have some

  287. families who would prioritize the word

  288. of God. I I am so tired of families

  289. finding every other reason to do every

  290. other thing. But when it comes time to

  291. expound the word of God that they find

  292. every excuse to miss. When it comes time

  293. for corporate worship, we find every

  294. reason not to be here. It it's so easy

  295. for us to do everything else, but when

  296. we wake up on Sunday morning, it's so

  297. difficult to get to church. Esther said

  298. this this morning while the kids were

  299. getting ready. She said, "Every day of

  300. the week, you guys get ready in two

  301. minutes and it takes you two hours on

  302. Sunday mornings." Why is that?

  303. Every family that has kids understands

  304. that, right? Every morning they're like

  305. out of bed, ready to go, dressed and

  306. energetic. It's Sunday morning. Oh, I

  307. don't want to get out of bed. I don't

  308. like my breakfast. I don't want And it's

  309. a whole thing.

  310. Oh, that we would have some families who

  311. would say, "The devil may try and

  312. distract us. The devil may try and get

  313. us to miss. The devil may try and put

  314. something in our life that makes us

  315. think it's more. Nothing is more

  316. important than prioritizing God's word

  317. for my family. We talked about this

  318. Wednesday night. If you was not here on

  319. Wednesday, go back on YouTube and watch

  320. the sermon from Wednesday night. A

  321. burden of my heart. Psalm 84. We talk

  322. about the blessing of the house of God

  323. and how there is nothing more important

  324. anywhere in the world happening on a

  325. Sunday morning than what is happening in

  326. local churches where the Bible is being

  327. expounded. Nothing is more important.

  328. The bed isn't more important. Your sleep

  329. isn't more important. Nothing. The lake

  330. certainly isn't more important. The golf

  331. course isn't more important. Nothing is

  332. more important on Sunday than

  333. prioritizing

  334. God's word. And if we will prioritize

  335. God's word, we will find that we are

  336. then emboldened to resist the attacks of

  337. Satan. That's number one. You want to

  338. fight for your family. Number one, have

  339. a heritage

  340. of prioritizing God's word. I wrote this

  341. statement down and I I won't miss I I

  342. almost missed it. I wrote this down. We

  343. cannot effectively fight for our family

  344. until we have emboldened been emboldened

  345. in our faith.

  346. And the greatest way to become bold in

  347. your faith is to become busy in God's

  348. word.

  349. The greatest way to become bold in your

  350. faith is to become busy in God's word. I

  351. wonder, is the Bible a priority in your

  352. family? Write down number two. How do

  353. you fight for your family? Well, we see

  354. that in the example of Caleb and Oneo's

  355. family. There is this priority of God's

  356. word in Caleb's life that I assume was

  357. passed down to his daughter and to his

  358. nephew. But what was else was in this

  359. family? Well, number two, there was the

  360. possibility of a godly home.

  361. And and this is amazing to me. In verse

  362. 15 and verse 16, Caleb goes up in verse

  363. 15. He looks at the city. For whatever

  364. reason, he decides he doesn't want to

  365. tackle this city. But he'll allow

  366. whoever the young man is who takes this

  367. city, the city of Kir Jifpher, then they

  368. can have his wife. Look at what or his

  369. daughter as their wife. Look at verse

  370. 16. And Caleb said, "He that smiteth Kir

  371. Jifpher and taketh it to him will I give

  372. aa my daughter to wife." He said, "I'm

  373. going to give my own daughter to the

  374. young man who is brave enough and bold

  375. enough to go and conquer this city for

  376. the nation of Israel." What's

  377. interesting to me is that every young

  378. man in Judah got the same offer.

  379. Everybody had the same possibility, but

  380. only

  381. accepted it. Anybody could have had Oxa

  382. as their wife. Anybody could have

  383. married into this godly heritage and

  384. this godly home. Anybody, any young man

  385. who was just bold enough and had faith

  386. enough to stand up and go defeat the

  387. enemy could have had this home. But only

  388. stands up and goes to fight the giants.

  389. And what strikes me is this morning we

  390. live in a culture and I'm going to give

  391. you some statistics here in a moment

  392. that is so corrupt and so messed up. But

  393. the possibility of a godly home does

  394. still exist.

  395. There is still a possibility that if you

  396. will have enough faith and and you will

  397. be bold in that faith and you will be

  398. busy in God's word, there is possible to

  399. still have a godly home in the United

  400. States of America. Now listen to what

  401. I'm getting ready to tell you. It may

  402. not seem like it, but hopefully I can

  403. encourage your faith here in just a

  404. moment. Did you know 50% of a mar 50% of

  405. marriages end in divorce in the United

  406. States?

  407. Maybe you're thinking, "How can I have a

  408. godly home if I can't even stay

  409. married?"

  410. 50% of people who get married can't stay

  411. married. Less than half of all US

  412. households are married couples. 47% to

  413. be exact. 47% of American households are

  414. married couples. The rest of them are

  415. unmarried.

  416. Most adults are more concerned about

  417. their career than they are about their

  418. kids.

  419. Most adults are more concerned about the

  420. money in their bank or getting money

  421. into their bank than they are about

  422. their children being raised in a godly

  423. home. 20% of high school students have

  424. considered suicide in the last year.

  425. 20%.

  426. 15% of high schoolers use vapes and over

  427. 20% reportedly consume alcohol on a

  428. regular basis. In some places, it's

  429. probably much higher than that. 25% of

  430. all children under the age of 18 are

  431. being raised in a single family home.

  432. We look at our culture and we wonder,

  433. God, what is happening? I believe that

  434. the devil has attacked the home in the

  435. United States of America. And we look at

  436. these statistics and they're just

  437. numbers.

  438. Usually statistics just bounce off of

  439. our heads because it's just a number.

  440. But all that we would understand the

  441. gravity of what these numbers represent

  442. that there is a home crisis in the

  443. United States of America. There is a

  444. crisis of godly moms and godly dads who

  445. prioritize God's word and put God first

  446. and limit the influences that they allow

  447. on their kids. Listen, it may be old

  448. school and it may be old-fashioned and

  449. there's probably people who would

  450. disagree, but there are shows that my

  451. kids are not allowed to watch and

  452. they'll tell you. They go to your house

  453. and you turn on a show and they'll say,

  454. "Oh, mom and dad, don't let us watch

  455. that." And I say, "Good for them.

  456. They're not allowed to watch certain

  457. things. They're not allowed to go

  458. certain places. They're not allowed to

  459. do certain things. They're not allowed

  460. to hang out with certain people because

  461. I'm limiting the influence of the world

  462. on my kids."

  463. There is a home crisis. People call it

  464. old-fashioned and out ofd and and

  465. disconnected from society.

  466. I say I just love my kids enough to

  467. raise them right.

  468. I love my family enough. And there is a

  469. possibility that if we will prioritize

  470. God's word and make that the biggest

  471. influence in our kids' life, there is a

  472. possibility that we can still have a

  473. godly home. I don't believe all hope is

  474. lost.

  475. that anyone could have had oxa.

  476. Perhaps what's wrong with the American

  477. home and the American family is not the

  478. drugs and the alcohol and the single

  479. parents and the divorce rates. Perhaps

  480. what is wrong with the American home,

  481. what's wrong with the American family is

  482. that we have lost our desire for a godly

  483. home. We've just become complacent that

  484. things are the way they are. And people

  485. now get married. Not. They don't make a

  486. lifelong commitment when they get

  487. married. No, they just get married to

  488. try it out and see how it goes. And if

  489. it doesn't work out, then we'll go on to

  490. the next one. There's no commitment to

  491. it. They don't have kids. People have

  492. kids for all the wrong reasons, if they

  493. have kids at all. Did you realize that?

  494. Uh the the the rate of uh kids being

  495. born is dropping drastically in the

  496. United States because people don't want

  497. to deal with them. Abortion rates are

  498. up. Why? because people don't want to

  499. invest in a child, in a in a small

  500. child.

  501. But I still believe that you can have a

  502. godly home. I still believe you can

  503. raise godly children in this culture. I

  504. still believe that you can stay married

  505. till death do us part in this culture.

  506. Still believe that you can prioritize

  507. God's word in your home in this culture.

  508. I still believe that you can protect

  509. your kids from the filth of the TV and

  510. the propaganda of pop culture. I still

  511. believe that a marriage is one man and

  512. one woman for one lifetime. I still

  513. believe that a young couple can stay

  514. pure until they get married on the

  515. marriage altar. I still believe that

  516. couples can stay married for 50, 60, 70

  517. years as long as God gives them life. I

  518. still believe that boys and girls can

  519. grow up hiding God's word in their

  520. heart. I still believe that if you are

  521. born female, then you are and always

  522. will be a female. And if you are born

  523. male, you are and always will be a male.

  524. I still believe in old-fashioned

  525. training up a child in the way he should

  526. go. Principles according to the book of

  527. Proverbs. I still believe that young men

  528. can be called to preach. Young ladies

  529. can be called to minister. I still

  530. believe that God is still calling

  531. teenagers to sing and preach his word. I

  532. believe God is raising up another

  533. generation of young people who will

  534. honor God and serve God. I believe that

  535. God is big enough to build up some more

  536. giants of the faith in the next

  537. generation. And in my generation, I

  538. still believe that there are some

  539. parents out there that see the filth of

  540. this world and the mess of this culture,

  541. but you've not given up hope yet. And

  542. that God is still big enough to give you

  543. a godly family. Yes, there may be some

  544. giants in the city of Kirjath Sephir.

  545. Yes, there may be some giants in the

  546. culture ahead of us. Yes, we may have to

  547. embolden our faith. Yes, we may have to

  548. be busy in God's word. Yes, we may have

  549. to pray diligently for our family. But

  550. have faith and be encouraged. The

  551. possibility of a godly home still exists

  552. because the possibility of a godly home

  553. is not dependent on the culture. It is

  554. dependent on who our God is. And he has

  555. not changed.

  556. >> So we can still have godly kids and we

  557. can still raise godly families.

  558. Write down number three.

  559. We see number one, fighting for my

  560. family. You must have the priority of

  561. God's word. Number two, there is the

  562. possibility of a godly home. Write down

  563. number three. The persever perseverance

  564. of godly people.

  565. The perseverance of godly people in

  566. verse number 17.

  567. Oeneal the son of Kenaz the brother of

  568. Caleb took it

  569. and he gave Oxa his daughter to wife.

  570. The Bible simply describes the battle in

  571. two words. Everything that takes place.

  572. Anneil and the the city of Kirjifir, the

  573. giants, the sons of Anch, everyone who

  574. was there. The whole thing is summarized

  575. in just two words. He took it. What

  576. happened? Well, we don't know. Did he

  577. organize an army of people? Maybe. Did

  578. he get some guys to come help him?

  579. Maybe. I don't know. In my mind, I kind

  580. of like the hero strategy. He just

  581. sneaks in and just starts knocking them

  582. out and they don't even know what

  583. happened. Just one man show in there and

  584. he takes the whole city. I don't know

  585. how he did it. God knows. But what we do

  586. know is that he persevered and he took

  587. it.

  588. I'm assuming that there was a battle

  589. though. I mean, these are giants in this

  590. city. These are men of war in this city.

  591. I'm assuming he didn't just walk up,

  592. knock on the gate of the city and say,

  593. "Hey guys, uh, this is my city now. Move

  594. it."

  595. No, there was a battle. There was a

  596. fight. There were swords and and and

  597. there were spears and and it was

  598. intense. But he said, "I'm going to

  599. persevere and I'm going to defeat the

  600. giants that would hinder me from having

  601. a family. I want oxa. I want a godly

  602. wife. I want to raise a godly family.

  603. So, I'm willing to fight the giants. I'm

  604. willing to persevere in the face of the

  605. enemy so that I will have a godly home."

  606. What a principle for you and I today.

  607. Sometimes we get this idea that that

  608. it's going to be just really easy to

  609. serve God in this culture and that it's

  610. going to be really easy to raise a godly

  611. home and raise godly kids. Can I tell

  612. you it's the most difficult thing I've

  613. ever done in my life

  614. and it's going to stay that way. I don't

  615. think it's going to get any easier to

  616. raise godly kids to keep them focused on

  617. what's right. And and some of you are

  618. saying, "Yeah, you you're still green.

  619. Yeah, I'm barely into this thing and

  620. it's difficult.

  621. It's hard. But oh, God says there's a

  622. blessing for those who will persevere,

  623. for the offneils,

  624. who will not put away their sword, who

  625. won't stop praying, who won't stop

  626. ministering to their kids and and going

  627. after their children and their

  628. grandchildren. Keep fighting the giants.

  629. Listen, there are some giants in this

  630. culture.

  631. There are some giants that exist in our

  632. schools.

  633. And if the church doesn't stand up and

  634. say things, stand on truth, call sin

  635. sin, and call right, then who's going to

  636. do it? It's not going to be the schools.

  637. It's certainly not going to be the

  638. government.

  639. It's the local church's job to stand up

  640. against the sin and the corruption and

  641. start slaying some giants in our culture

  642. so that our kids can come up serving

  643. God. Don't give up. Persevere. Push on

  644. through.

  645. Your family is worth it. There's a

  646. possibility of a godly home. But oh,

  647. it's not going to be easy.

  648. We need some perseverance of godly

  649. people. Giants await us. Enemies await

  650. us. Evil influences await us. Confused

  651. children await us. Lost friendships

  652. await us. Lost jobs await us. It is

  653. never easy to swim upstream against the

  654. current.

  655. Oh, that we would have a a an

  656. understanding of how important our

  657. children are.

  658. When moms and dads would understand that

  659. the most important thing is that child's

  660. upbringing.

  661. Proverbs talks about them as arrows in

  662. the hand of a mighty archer. You got 18

  663. years to aim that thing,

  664. sometimes less.

  665. and you pull that thing back. It's a

  666. that child is as if it's an arrow and

  667. you aim it at the mark and then when you

  668. let it go, you let it go.

  669. And once you let it go, you can't get it

  670. back.

  671. It's gone.

  672. Oh, that we would have some parents who

  673. understand you only get so many years

  674. with your kids. You only get so many

  675. years with your grandkids.

  676. You only get so many years with the

  677. children that are downstairs right now

  678. learning about I think they're learning

  679. about Moses this morning.

  680. We only got so long to invest and pour

  681. into them and show them the what is

  682. right and what is wrong and stand up for

  683. truth and encourage them. Oh, may it

  684. never be said in this church that we've

  685. ever discouraged a child from serving

  686. God. Kids can serve. They're not the

  687. church of tomorrow. They're the church

  688. of today. Let them serve. Let them get

  689. involved. Encourage them. Talk to them.

  690. Shake their hands. Hug their necks.

  691. Tell them that they they look sharp

  692. today and give them a fist bump. And

  693. tell those little girls they look pretty

  694. today.

  695. Encourage those kids. Let them fall in

  696. love with the house of God. Let them

  697. fall in love with the word of God.

  698. Let's raise up some kids. It's not going

  699. to be easy. Going to have to face some

  700. giants out there.

  701. But a godly home is worth it. I got one

  702. more thing for you this morning. Number

  703. four,

  704. there's a prayer for God's blessings. I

  705. didn't read these verses at the

  706. beginning,

  707. but in verse number 18, we see Oxa, the

  708. daughter, and Oneil, the man. He goes,

  709. he takes the city, he conquers the city,

  710. Oxa becomes his wife, and I assume that

  711. the the story ends there, right? They

  712. lived happily ever after. Well,

  713. actually, there's a lot of history that

  714. continues to happen. This family is far

  715. from done when it comes to fighting.

  716. Something's going to take place in these

  717. next two verses, and I'm going to tell

  718. you about it in just a moment. But it's

  719. interesting that actually becomes the

  720. first judge of the nation of Israel. You

  721. go and read the book of Judges in Judges

    Judges 3 chapter mention

  722. chapter 3, and you'll find that I

  723. believe it's the same guy. It could have

  724. been a different, but I think it's the

  725. same guy. He becomes the first judge

  726. then of the nation of Israel. God had

  727. big plans for him. He becomes this this

  728. godly man and he marries this godly wife

  729. and they begin a godly home all because

  730. he said I'm willing to put on my sword

  731. and go fight the enemy. And that's what

  732. we need in our day. But notice what his

  733. wife does. Shows us a little bit of her

  734. character in verse 18. And it came to

  735. pass as she came unto him. She moved him

  736. to ask of her father a field.

  737. Oxa comes to her now husband Oneal. She

  738. said, "Oneil,

  739. I'm so glad that God's put this

  740. together, but I want more for our

  741. family.

  742. I'm not satisfied with just what we have

  743. here. I I want more blessings for our

  744. family. So, I'm going to go to my father

  745. and I'm going to ask that he gives us

  746. another field that he gives us a greater

  747. blessing because he's my father and I

  748. can go ask him whatever I want." And

  749. it's a beautiful picture. Look at what

  750. happens. The end of verse 18, Caleb said

  751. unto her, "What woodest thou?" Verse 19,

  752. she answered, "Give me a blessing, for

  753. thou hast given me a south land. Give me

  754. also springs of water." And he gave her

  755. the upper springs and the nether

  756. springs. Number four, if I didn't tell

  757. you already, number four, write this

  758. down. You want to fight for your family,

  759. you've got to have the prayer for God's

  760. blessings.

  761. Don't be afraid to pray for God's

  762. blessings.

  763. Anneal defeats the giants. He conquers

  764. deburr. Caleb gives Oeneil his daughter

  765. Oxa. She becomes his wife. They start a

  766. family together. I can only assume so

  767. from the text. They're not done fighting

  768. yet. Oxa approaches her father and ask

  769. him of the springs of the well.

  770. So, Dad, I want more.

  771. I'm not satisfied with this much. I

  772. don't think she was being greedy. I

  773. think she just understood

  774. that her family was worth more. And so

  775. she went boldly to her father and she

  776. prayed for a blessing.

  777. When's the last time,

  778. Dad,

  779. mom,

  780. grandma, grandpa, when's the last time

  781. you knelt before your father

  782. and said, "I want more

  783. for my family.

  784. Lord, I look at the blessings you've

  785. given me already. And I'm thankful for

  786. the blessings that you've given me up to

  787. this point,

  788. but I want more

  789. for my family.

  790. I want more for my kids.

  791. It is not good enough that they just

  792. stay out of jail.

  793. I want more.

  794. Perhaps where the American family really

  795. lost it was when we thought that we

  796. could just get along with what we had

  797. already

  798. and we lost our boldness

  799. to go seek the face of God for more

  800. blessings on our families.

  801. There is nothing wrong with going to

  802. your heavenly father who owns the cattle

  803. on a thousand hills and saying, "Dear

  804. God, my family matters to me.

  805. My kids matter to me. My wife matters to

  806. me. And I want more." We're living in a

  807. culture and in an age that is okay with

  808. the state that we are in. We are

  809. complacent and we're satisfied

  810. and we we we think, "Yeah, that's the

  811. world. Yeah, they're going to get

  812. married." And young people, they just

  813. think they're so in love and then

  814. they're just going to fall out of love.

  815. Listen, you don't fall in love. You

  816. don't fall out of love. You grow in love

  817. and you decide to get out of love. It's

  818. a choice.

  819. But we just think, "Oh, they just fall

  820. in love and then in a few years they'll

  821. fall out of love and it is what it is.

  822. It's just the culture that we live in."

  823. No, it's not the culture that we live

  824. in. It's Satan. It's sin. It's

  825. wickedness. And God said, "One man, one

  826. woman, one lifetime." And I still

  827. believe it's possible, but we can't be

  828. satisfied with where the culture has

  829. drawn the line. Let's get back to the

  830. Bible. Get back to what God has said.

  831. Get on our knees before a holy God and

  832. say, "That's not good enough for the

  833. family you've blessed me with. You are

  834. big enough to defeat any giant of this

  835. culture. You are big enough to protect

  836. my kids. You are big enough to build a

  837. godly home." And so God, I'm asking, I'm

  838. praying, I'm pleading in faith that you

  839. would give my family more.

  840. Not satisfied with the status quo. You

  841. know, Christians, the divorce rate in

  842. the church and out of the church is not

  843. different really at all.

  844. Christians and lost people, there's no

  845. different. You can't see the the nature

  846. of Christ hardly at all.

  847. It's the same because Christians and the

  848. church and what's supposed to be godly

  849. homes have become satisfied with

  850. everything going on in the culture and

  851. we've just adop adapted and adopted

  852. their philosophy that you know I guess

  853. it just is what it is and we've become

  854. complacent in our church and complacent

  855. in our homes.

  856. We need some families

  857. who will say I'm ready to fight

  858. for my kids.

  859. I'm not okay

  860. with what the status quo is out there.

  861. I'm not okay with my kids just being

  862. good enough and not getting in trouble

  863. at school.

  864. No, God, I want more. You can come to

  865. the piano.

  866. We fight for our family the most

  867. when we fight from our knees.

  868. The best weapon that you have right now

  869. against the culture and against the

  870. world and against the sin and against

  871. the wickedness. The best weapon we have

  872. right now in this place is not getting

  873. enough strength. It's not it's not

  874. mustering up enough courage and getting

  875. pumped up by Pastor John and saying, "Oh

  876. yeah, let's go get No, no. The best

  877. weapon that we have against the culture.

  878. The best weapon we have to fight for our

  879. families is our God

  880. prayer.

  881. Go to him.

  882. When was the last time that you just

  883. prayed for your family?

  884. Some of you tell me regularly,

  885. "Wish my family was in church.

  886. Wish my family was here with me today.

  887. Wish this had happened. Wish they would

  888. come."

  889. And I do, too.

  890. I can't make them come, though.

  891. I can't make them come to church. I

  892. can't drag them in. and I'd go to jail.

  893. But I know somebody who can drag them

  894. in.

  895. I know somebody who is big enough to get

  896. them here.

  897. We've been praying and praying and

  898. praying for them.

  899. I know a God who if you would get on

  900. your knees and say, "Dear God, bring my

  901. children back. Bring my grandkids back.

  902. might not happen overnight, but I have

  903. faith enough to believe that God will do

  904. what what only he can do.

  905. And it could be as soon as next Sunday,

  906. we see some people start coming into

  907. these doors

  908. who we've been praying about because you

  909. just kept praying one more time. You

  910. just asked God one more time.

  911. Please, Lord, get a hold of their heart.

  912. Please God, get a hold of their I want

  913. more for my family.

  914. I'm a young guy. I got a young family.

  915. We're just starting out in this thing.

  916. Oh, I want so much for my kids. And I

  917. know some of you, you remember being in

  918. my place.

  919. And maybe over time things have

  920. happened.

  921. And you walked in this morning,

  922. losing hope.

  923. Don't lose hope.

  924. Don't lose hope. God is big enough to

  925. bring them back home.

  926. For those of us with younger families,

  927. hey, let's pray for our kids.

  928. God, give my family more.

  929. I'm done. Here's what I want us to do

  930. this morning. I want you to just take

  931. some time while she plays.

  932. You can come bow on an altar.

  933. We've got plenty of time this morning.

  934. We're early. Why don't we just make this

  935. a prayer room today

  936. and let's ask God for some blessings.

  937. I'm not God. I've I'm not content. I'm

  938. not satisfied with the state of my

  939. family. I I want more spiritual

  940. blessings. I'm not talking about money.

  941. Don't pray for money this morning. Don't

  942. pray for a new car. That's not what I'm

  943. talking about. They can get a job and

  944. buy their own car. No, I'm talking about

  945. spiritual blessings. God, I want your

  946. presence in my kids' life.

  947. I want them to have a hunger and a

  948. thirst for you.

  949. She asked for water in a desert place.

  950. Did you notice that? She asked for

  951. springs in a desert place.

  952. Jesus said, "I am the living water."

  953. You ask this morning, ask the living

  954. water

  955. to flow through your family.
