  1. Welcome to church this morning. It's a beautiful hot summer day,

  2. but it is a beautiful day to worship the Lord.

  3. I have a few announcements. If you would turn on the back of

  4. your bulletin you will see most of them.

  5. I'm not going to announce all of them, but remember after the

  6. service we do have the board meeting and I don't believe we

  7. will be having disciple women this Wednesday.

  8. So we've either got somebody in the hospital so we won't be

  9. having disciple women. OK, thank you women, ladies.

  10. Regina, yes, anybody that wants to help with food boxes on

  11. Wednesday will be party at 10 AM the party.

  12. Anybody that wants to help with food boxes they will be here

  13. Wednesday and they will leave at 10 AM so you better leave here.

  14. I know Chuck usually gets up at 7:00 so but they will be leaving

  15. at 10 if you want to help. All right, So what she just

  16. said. I know most of y'all did not

  17. hear that. Vegetable cans.

  18. If you open a can of vegetables, don't throw it in the garbage.

  19. Put it in a bag. A Walmart bag.

  20. Save them up for the rest of this week.

  21. We need a bunch. Yeah, you can wash that, make

  22. sure they're clean. Well, we need.

  23. A bunch of vegetable cans. No like coke cans or whatever.

  24. Soda cans, right? Got to be something.

  25. We've opened the can that's correct.

  26. Is. That correct?

  27. OK, did y'all hear that? Please stand with me.

  28. Turn in your worship handles to number 603.

  29. When we all get to heaven, we'll do the first and fourth verse.

  30. You may be seated. First of all, I want to say

  31. welcome to some of the visitors that we have today.

  32. It looks good to see some more young people out here today.

  33. All right for our word of worship today or word of

  34. encouragement. We live in a busy life, busy

  35. lifestyle, even in the South sometimes.

  36. But in Psalms 4610 through 11, it says be still and know that I

  37. am God. I will be exalted among all

  38. nations. I will be exalted in the earth.

  39. The Lord Almighty is with us. The Lord of Jacob is our

  40. fortress. Now we as Christians experience

  41. seasons not like fall, summer, winter, but we have spiritual

  42. seasons in our lives. At some point during these

  43. seasons, God is telling us in songs to be still.

  44. It's hard for many of us to be still.

  45. We're not used to that. But sometimes when we pray, just

  46. be quiet and listen. Be still and know that I am God.

  47. Let us pray. Father, help us to see your

  48. mighty things that you do for us every day and the things that

  49. you do for us throughout our lives and throughout our church

  50. lives. Lord, we come to you praying as

  51. Jesus taught us to pray. Our Father, who art in heaven,

  52. hallowed be thy name, Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done

  53. on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day Our Daily Bread

  54. and forgives our death as we forgive our debtors and lead us

  55. not to temptation, but deliver us from evil.

  56. For thine is the Kingdom, the power, and the glory forever.

  57. We won't have the children. I know she's not still.

  58. OK, please stand with me again. Open your worship handle to

  59. number 554 as the deer first and third verse.

  60. Hey man, you may be seated. Now I have a serious question

  61. for y'all. Can y'all hear me singing?

  62. I can't hear y'all so I need y'all to sing out.

  63. I know you. You don't.

  64. Y'all don't like it sometimes or you're scared.

  65. I I don't know. I don't know what it is, but I

  66. I'm getting older and my hearing is not what it used to be.

  67. So you're going to have to sing out.

  68. Speak up so I can hear you. OK.

  69. Anyone going to sing louder on the next hymn?

  70. Just raise your hand if you're going to OK yeah, two people

  71. since I'm beginning to see what I think the problem is.

  72. At least y'all aren't telling stories in church.

  73. I will commend you on that this morning as we're looking to go

  74. the Lord in prayer. I do want to tell you that I had

  75. a request from someone that when we get to the time of the

  76. message today that I put in about a good hour and a half.

  77. So I'm just letting you know I'm going to start the timer when I

  78. get up there, hour and a half. We'll see how that goes over as

  79. we do go. Lord in prayer, in all

  80. seriousness, morning. I do want you to continue to

  81. remember Miss Patricia Curry. She is still in the hospital at

  82. Baptist, but she is doing better, improving.

  83. I saw her Friday and in a regular room and sitting up in a

  84. chair and and beginning to regain some strength she has she

  85. had gotten up out of the bed and she walked down the hall.

  86. So she is in making some some progress, but do continue to

  87. remember her. Also remember Dan, he had

  88. another of one of his radiation treatments and he is in

  89. quarantine at his house right now.

  90. So just be in prayer for them. Also continue to remember those

  91. within our church family who have lost loved ones recently

  92. that we just continue to remember them and know not only

  93. are they hurting, are they mourning, but they're simply

  94. missing a loved one. And what we can do to encourage

  95. them. We, we certainly want to do

  96. that. So let's go.

  97. The Lord in prayer, our heavenly Father, this morning we do give

  98. thanks, Lord, for an opportunity to worship, Lord, for an

  99. opportunity to stand before you, the one true and living God, to

  100. be invited here, that you desire to meet with us, that you want

  101. to commune with us. Lord, it's amazing that the

  102. Creator of the heavens and the earth cares about us as

  103. individuals, that you desire a personal relationship with each

  104. of us. As Miss Regina shared.

  105. Lord, we, we, we simply pray that sometimes we will just

  106. pause and sit and be still and allow Your Spirit to move within

  107. us and for us to realize who it is that we serve.

  108. That you are God, that you are all knowing more, that you know

  109. what it is to be in pain. Lord, you know what it is to

  110. hurt. You know what our needs are

  111. before we even ask, but You still desire for us to come to

  112. You and make those requests. We pray today, Lord, as we

  113. worship Lord, that we do so in spirit and truth as we have

  114. opportunities to give of what You have blessed us with.

  115. Lord, we do so willingly as You have told us, Lord, that You

  116. love a cheerful giver. We also ask, Lord, that as we

  117. come to the table to remember the sacrifice made by our Lord

  118. and Savior Jesus Christ, that we approach that place humbly, that

  119. we acknowledge where we have fallen short, but we also always

  120. remember that He died on that cross for us so that we may have

  121. forgiveness of those sins. And Lord, then as we do look

  122. into Your word today, Lord, I just pray that Your word speaks

  123. to us, that Your Holy Spirit moves within us, Lord, and that

  124. we are changed, that we are encouraged, and that we look

  125. forward to going forth and serving You in this next week.

  126. We ask all this in Jesus name, Amen.

  127. We deal with joyful hearts. Thank you for the providing us

  128. with our needs eligible times. And all be used.

  129. For the glory and honor, it's in your name we pray.

  130. Amen. Our Communion hymn is #399 Let

  131. us break bread together, of course, first and second verse.

  132. Christ's advice to this table, all who profess the Christian

  133. faith and who seek the mercy of God.

  134. Jesus broke bread with all sorts of people throughout his life,

  135. with sinners, with a self-righteous, with hungry

  136. crowds, and most often with his disciples.

  137. It was in the breaking of the bread that the travelers to

  138. Emmaus recognized him. When the first Christians

  139. gathered on the on the Lord's Day to share in a meal of

  140. Christ's remembrance, they spoke of it as the breaking of the

  141. bread with all God's faithful. Let us now break bread together

  142. in communion with Christ and with one another.

  143. Let us pray, dear. Lord, we do thank you for this

  144. communion table that we come to you today.

  145. First of all, breaking of the bread.

  146. We know it represents your body broken, that we have been

  147. forgiven. We thank you for Jesus that gave

  148. us that wonderful gift of grace. And as we take this bread today,

  149. Lord, as the song says, have mercy on us.

  150. Father, thank you for the many blessings you've given us.

  151. Thank you for this day and the opportunity we have to come

  152. together to worship and praise. Your name must be sister.

  153. We thank You for this table and the invitation we have and come

  154. and partake of its emblems. Now as we take of this cup,

  155. we're reminded of Jesus blood that was poured out on the cross

  156. for the forgiveness of our sins. I pray that we might partake in

  157. a manner that is pleasing you. Bryce name I pray.

  158. Amen. The Lord Jesus, on the night he

  159. was betrayed, took bread and we had given thanks.

  160. He broke it and said, this is my body given for you.

  161. Do this in remembrance of me. In the same way, after supper he

  162. took the cup, saying this cup is a new covenant in my blood.

  163. Do this whenever you drink it in remembrance of me.

  164. For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim

  165. the Lord's death until he comes. All right.

  166. This morning as we look into God's Word, I have several

  167. verses that I'm going to share with you.

  168. You can go ahead and turn to Thessalonians chapter 5, 1st

  169. Thessalonians 5, and verse 16. This morning I want to I want to

  170. talk with you for a few moments, few minutes about being thankful

  171. and what that looks like in in our daily lives.

  172. Let let me ask you this question.

  173. If I was to ask you the question yesterday, did you tell others

  174. that you were more often thankful for something or did

  175. you complain about something? What do you think?

  176. What do you think you did yesterday?

  177. What's that? You think you did more

  178. thankfulness than you did complaining?

  179. That's excellent. What'd y'all say?

  180. OK, On average, do you think that you give more thanks when

  181. you were talking to others, or do you do more complaining?

  182. I want you to really think about this.

  183. I want you to think about when you're driving down the road and

  184. you're talking on the phone to someone and don't say that you

  185. don't do it because I know you do, and someone pulls out in

  186. front of you. Do you tell the person on the

  187. other end of the line how crazy the drivers are and how, how

  188. they can't drive, they shouldn't be on the road and da, da, da,

  189. da, do you do that? I do it all the time.

  190. Ask Randy, ask my wife, ask my children.

  191. When you go and you get, when you go to a restaurant and you

  192. sit down and you're starving and you there's hardly anyone else

  193. in the restaurant and you've got your menu.

  194. You've already been looking at it.

  195. You know what it is that you want and they don't come and

  196. take your order. Do you ever make the comment,

  197. where is our waitresses? Is anyone waiting on our

  198. section? And on and on and on we go.

  199. And then they finally show up and they take our order and

  200. we're like, thank goodness they got our order taken.

  201. And then 10 minutes later you, you don't have your drink, you

  202. finally get your drink. Man, I I hope it doesn't take

  203. our food this long to get here and takes the food a long time.

  204. Then the food gets there and it was not up really up to what you

  205. were hoping that it was. And you're just like, well, this

  206. is a disappointing meal. Do you ever do that?

  207. Honestly, I do. I was talking to my parents the

  208. other day and I've and as I sat down on the couch and they're

  209. always my dad is in his recliner right here.

  210. My mom is on this end of the couch and it's an l-shaped

  211. couch. And then I sit over here on this

  212. end. And as I sat down, they said,

  213. well, how was your day? And I just started laying into

  214. all the things that I didn't like about the day.

  215. And as I did that, as as I was got getting to the end of my

  216. spill, my dad said something along the lines of, well,

  217. hopefully tomorrow will be better.

  218. And it just kind of hit me. And I will tell y'all, this

  219. one's probably more for me than it is for y'all, but I'm

  220. preaching it anyway. But it hit me how often we hear

  221. negative, we speak negative, we think negative, we complain, and

  222. we just go off about the world in general.

  223. Who watches the news in here? How do you?

  224. Would you say that you hear more good news, good feeling stories

  225. or do you hear more negative stories?

  226. Would you say that it's 90% negative and 10% positive would

  227. be about where that would fall, would you say?

  228. Or is it even worse? Because I, I'm beginning to

  229. wonder, it may be worse than 90%.

  230. The world that we live in, I'm telling you, is always looking

  231. at the bad side, the negative side.

  232. It is up to us as Christians to not be pulled into that.

  233. And let me tell you, I I'm guilty.

  234. I am guilty of looking at the negative side.

  235. Let me give you another example. My daughter plays softball.

  236. She may play a fantastic game, but there will be 1 ball that I

  237. mean it was just laid out there and you just suck it up and go

  238. right to first base and it went right between her legs.

  239. I don't talk about the double that she got.

  240. I don't talk about the two that she caught.

  241. They were going foul and one of them almost was going out of the

  242. out of the fence and she snags it.

  243. I don't talk about those. I'm the first thing I say is

  244. what happened on that ball at third?

  245. You were right there and then you just took took her off the

  246. ball and went right between your legs.

  247. What am I saying to my daughter? All the good doesn't really mean

  248. that much to me. But that one bad play, that's

  249. where I want to focus. Why?

  250. Why do not say? Why do I not say look at all the

  251. good things. Don't worry about that ball.

  252. It is so easy for us to focus in on that one negative thing that

  253. happened. Even if it is within a meal, the

  254. the 90% of the meal could be great.

  255. But you were looking forward to this one thing and it wasn't

  256. quite right. And you're that's what you want

  257. to harp on. I got one more for you then I'm

  258. going to let you talk. So be ready.

  259. One more. We were having a funeral here.

  260. Last Saturday was the last Saturday, Lamar last Saturday

  261. and Lamar and Beau, we're out cooking burgers.

  262. And it started to just, I mean, it started flooding in an

  263. instant. I mean, there was no rain.

  264. And then all of a sudden, boom, it's just coming down.

  265. So Lamar pulled the cooker underneath the the portico right

  266. out here and they finished cooking the burgers and they

  267. were able to stay dry and they got all the burgers cooked.

  268. This door doesn't latch all the way and it was open just about

  269. that much while they were out there cooking and cooking and

  270. cooking. And the smoke was just being

  271. pulled in to the sanctuary. And I literally when you were in

  272. here, there was just this ring of smoke in the sanctuary.

  273. Now, instead of me saying to Lamar and to Bo, hey, thank you

  274. all so much for being willing to cook after all that you all have

  275. already done the week before. Thank you all for being willing

  276. to do that. Thank you for cooking burgers,

  277. which we all know is one of my favorite things.

  278. And let me tell you what they did.

  279. They cooked me a triple cheeseburger and had it set

  280. aside specifically for me. That's true.

  281. That's what they did. And do you know what I said the

  282. first time that I saw Bo after that cooking?

  283. I said, Bo, y'all can't cook under that portico anymore?

  284. Smoke got in there and it was all in the sanctuary and we

  285. could just smell it and it was all over the place.

  286. That's what I focused on. I didn't say, hey, thank you so

  287. much for that triple cheeseburger.

  288. It was amazing. Thank you for being willing to

  289. do this. You volunteered to do this.

  290. You didn't have to. I focused on the one negative

  291. thing, on the smoke that got in before the door because the door

  292. was unlatched. Folks, we do it and you may be

  293. sitting there thinking, wow, our preacher, he complaints a lot.

  294. But I promise you, if you really start considering what you talk

  295. about, if you really think about what you say in your

  296. conversation, you're going to speak on some negative things.

  297. We have got to move past the 10% and focus on the 90.

  298. Let me read you the Scripture, First Thessalonians chapter 5

    1 Thessalonians 5 chapter mention

  299. and verse 16. Rejoice always, pray continually

  300. give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's

  301. will for you in Christ Jesus. Rejoice always pray continually,

  302. give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's

  303. will for you in Christ Jesus. How often do we rejoice?

  304. How often do we focus on something other than that?

  305. Do we pray continually? Do we give thanks in all

  306. circumstances? Unfortunately, and maybe it's

  307. not for you, maybe it's just for me, but I have been focusing on

  308. the negative instead of the positive.

  309. And that can only tell me one thing.

  310. I'm not in the Word enough, I'm not in prayer enough, and I'm

  311. not hearing what the Lord has for me to do in my life.

  312. Because if we are focused on Him, if we are where He desires

  313. for us to be, we will rejoice always.

  314. No matter the circumstances, we will rejoice.

  315. We will be in a constant state of prayer.

  316. We will give thanks because that is God's will for your life and

  317. for mine. This morning you got up.

  318. Weather was pretty good. No one text and said we don't

  319. have any air conditioning today. No one texted and said we got no

  320. power. No one text and said we have no

  321. water. Everything's good.

  322. You decided to come to church. How often do we wake up in the

  323. morning on Sunday mornings? And we think to ourselves, will

  324. I go to church today? Is there any possible reason why

  325. I should not go today? Or do we wake up and we think it

  326. doesn't matter if we have water, it doesn't matter if we have air

  327. conditioning? I'm going to be in the House of

  328. the Lord because that's where I desire to be.

  329. What if I told you that next Sunday we're going to go back to

  330. everyone will all the men will wear coat and ties, all the

  331. ladies will wear dresses, the choir will be back in robes.

  332. How would you feel about that? Most of us would say, I don't

  333. know if I'm coming back next week or not.

  334. What if I text you next Sunday morning and I said there is no

  335. air conditioning, but we're still having church.

  336. There is no water, but we're still having church.

  337. Do you think that we would have the same number that we have

  338. today when I especially when I tell you, yeah, even though we

  339. have no power, we have no electricity, We got no air

  340. conditioning, Still want you to wear a coat and tie, fellas?

  341. We wouldn't want to do it. When we go back into the Old

  342. Testament and we look at times of worship, there were times

  343. when they would call the people of God together for a solemn

  344. assemble assembly, and they would literally come before the

  345. Lord. And they were out in the middle

  346. of the heat. They didn't have air

  347. conditioning. They didn't even have a building

  348. at the time and they stood for 4-5 and six hours at a time

  349. before the Lord. Now, how many of you would want

  350. to go to do that? How many times do you do?

  351. Does it happen when Phillip says, hey, we're going to stand

  352. for this him and you're like, man, I wish we would just sat

  353. down on this one. It's hard to get up and down.

  354. I'm getting older. Imagine standing for four, 5-6

  355. hours before the Lord. The level of commitment that we

  356. have today. It's gone down.

  357. It has. Whose fault is that?

  358. It's ours. It's the preacher's fault.

  359. It's the organist's fault. It's simply just the world that

  360. we live in. Today's fault.

  361. No, it's our fault. When we choose to place anything

  362. before the Lord, that's on us. I can't blame it on the news.

  363. I can't blame it on all the negativity that I hear.

  364. I can't blame it on the restaurant.

  365. I can't blame it on there was a little bit of smoke in the

  366. building. There's nothing to blame it on

  367. but me. Psalm 103, verses one through 4.

  368. Praise the Lord my soul, all my inmost being.

  369. Praise His holy name. Praise the Lord my soul, and

  370. forget not all His benefits. Who forgives all your sins and

  371. heals all your diseases? Who redeems your life from the

  372. pit and crowns you with love and compassion?

  373. That's the Lord. Colossians chapter 2, verses

    Colossians 2 chapter mention

  374. 6:00 and 7:00. As you therefore have received

  375. Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in

  376. Him, and established in the faith as you have been taught,

  377. abounding in it with Thanksgiving.

  378. James 117 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down

  379. from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like

  380. shifting shadows. Hebrews 12/28 Therefore, since

  381. we are receiving a Kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be

  382. thankful and so worship God acceptably, with reverence and

  383. all, for our God is a consuming fire.

  384. Colossians 3, verses 15 through 17.

    Colossians 3:15–17

  385. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of

  386. 1 body you were called to peace, and be thankful.

  387. Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach

  388. and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns

  389. and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in

  390. your hearts. And whatever you do, whether in

  391. Word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving

  392. thanks to God the Father through Him.

  393. I want to ask you this morning, I've already asked you once, and

  394. I want you to be honest with yourself and honest with the

  395. Lord. When we were singing those

  396. hymns, were you singing them to the Lord?

  397. Were you singing them to the your Heavenly Father?

  398. Were you thankful for the opportunity to be in worship

  399. today? Or did you hear that the piano

  400. was not there and it sounded a little bit different?

  401. Were you concerned about somebody else was going to hear

  402. you singing? And some of us will say things

  403. like, well, my voice is just not that good.

  404. Y'all don't want to hear me sing.

  405. But I have sometimes seen people who don't sing very loud in

  406. church. They're in their car, they're on

  407. the golf cart, and they're just letting it RIP at the top of

  408. their lungs, singing with gusto. My daughter was riding down the

  409. road the other day on the golf cart.

  410. Katie Grace and my wife were sitting out on the back porch

  411. and there she went down the road, got her music on, singing

  412. at the top of her lungs, which I don't think she even knew.

  413. I think she had had them in her ears and didn't even know.

  414. I was on the phone with Katie Grace and she said you're not

  415. going to believe what just happened.

  416. I said what? She said Anna Claire just rode

  417. by and she was singing so loud we can hear all the way up here.

  418. I said there's no way. Yeah, happened.

  419. What is it about when we're in the car by ourself, when we

  420. think no one else is around and we will sing because it's just

  421. for ourselves? I want to tell you this morning

  422. that when we sing these hymns, it's not for those around you.

  423. It's not even for the preacher. It's not Even so Peggy feels

  424. good. You are singing to the Lord

  425. about how good He is, how thankful we are for all that He

  426. has done for us. Now, I told you that I was going

  427. to give you an opportunity to speak, and it's about to come

  428. right now. I've got a microphone right

  429. here. Scott.

  430. Is it ready? Ready to roll?

  431. If one of you has something that you want to share that you are

  432. thankful for today, raise your hand.

  433. Anything that you were OK, Mr. Gina, go ahead.

  434. I have a picture. Is it on?

  435. Yeah, just hold it up. Close.

  436. I have a picture on my phone that shows what happened

  437. yesterday. I was mowing the yard.

  438. I mowed past a row of trees and then I went somewhere else to

  439. mow and I looked up and one of those trees had fallen.

  440. If I had been under there, Lee, pray you know that I was OK, but

  441. then if I had been under there, it would have hurt me or gotten

  442. rid of me. So I'm thankful that I was able

  443. to mow the rest of the yard. Anyone else?

  444. Something that you are thankful for?

  445. Something that you're thankful for this past week, that you

  446. were thankful for today. Anything Lamar, I'm coming back.

  447. I'm thankful for this church and the people in it, for what they

  448. do. Every time they're called on to

  449. do anything, to come, to provide food, to be here, anything that

  450. happens, they're always here. They don't bitch and fuss and

  451. gripe about it. They're just always there to do

  452. it. And I think we're one of the,

  453. I've always said this, I think we're one of the most blessed

  454. people in the world because of that.

  455. Amen. Thank you.

  456. Anyone else. Thank.

  457. You, Brad. Scott Gitter.

  458. I'm giving the same things as Lamar, you know, he said the

  459. very words that were in my mind. We have this church to come to,

  460. to give our thanks. What more can we ask?

  461. Thank you. Anybody else something that you

  462. were thankful for? I'm I'm also thankful for my

  463. family, which includes. This church.

  464. Family and your Your message hit home today, by the way.

  465. Well, everybody knows the issues I've been having with Abby for

  466. quite a while now. She has been staying down with

  467. the best friend of mine and Bogachetta here in Mississippi,

  468. away from some neighbors and outside influences that were not

  469. very well for her. Not only has she started going

  470. to church down there, my best friend, who I'm not as familiar

  471. with her being in the church, has started going to church with

  472. her and I'm thankful for that. Yeah, Scott, gotcha.

  473. I don't want to embarrass him, but I want to thank God for my

  474. son and daughter that's here this morning.

  475. Amen. Amen.

  476. Anybody else? I know that I'm probably the

  477. only one here that really cares what happens with pups, but I

  478. was worried about the little Pomeranian that was at KKS and I

  479. decided that if I took her home and bathed her up and gave her

  480. to a friend who was having a 79th birthday and asked her if

  481. she'd just keep her until we could find a home for her.

  482. The dog did her chore and behaved beautifully and she has

  483. a home and that for me that's very important because I was

  484. worried. About all the animals.

  485. Hey, Ben, anyone else? Brad, I'm thankful that the

  486. smoke actually. Smelled good and you know.

  487. It just it worked out. And I do want to say that we

  488. have talked about this before and Denise and I talked about

  489. this, for a Church of our size to have 4 funerals in in the

  490. short time span that we had and to to minister to and feed the

  491. number of people that we did. And I honestly, the only

  492. complaining I heard came from me.

  493. And I'll tell you this, we got the meat from Wilson's down in

  494. Crystal Springs. And Lamar said this meat is good

  495. Brad. So I was expecting it to be just

  496. really good. He said it's pretty much as good

  497. as mine and I was like, wow, I'm looking forward to this.

  498. I got it. I ate 2 bites and I was like,

  499. this tastes nothing like Lamar's meat.

  500. I was disappointed. Lamar, to your committee, to

  501. Miss Denise, to your committee, to everyone who took part in

  502. that, I, I want to say thank you.

  503. Thank you for not complaining about the amount of people, the

  504. amount of food that you had to come up with.

  505. It flowed beautifully. Those families were ministered

  506. to in a mighty way during that time of need.

  507. And I commend you all for those who brought food, who cleaned

  508. up, whatever part that you took in doing that, I thank you.

  509. My prayer for me is that going forward from today, when you see

  510. your preacher, he's got something encouraging for you to

  511. hear, not something that he wants to complain about, not

  512. something that he's frustrated with because he does get

  513. frustrated, but that we focus on that.

  514. First Thessalonians chapter 5, verses 16 through 18.

    1 Thessalonians 5:16–18

  515. Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks and all

  516. circumstances. And I promise you all, when we

  517. do that, He gives us the end of this verse.

  518. For this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.

  519. You want to have a better day, spend some time in prayer.

  520. You want to have a better day, Rejoice no matter what's going

  521. on in your life, give thanks to the Lord for the blessings that

  522. you have. You want to have a better day,

  523. Pray continually when you're not feeling good.

  524. Go to the Lord in prayer right at that time and say, Lord, no

  525. matter what happens today, I'm going to keep my focus in my

  526. eyes on you. And I'm not going to let this

  527. world bring me down. I'm not going to let what's

  528. happening in my life bring me to the place where I don't want to

  529. rejoice. I rejoice because I am your

  530. child. I rejoice because Jesus Christ

  531. gave his very life for me. I rejoice and I have confidence

  532. in the fact that when I leave this earth, you have promised

  533. and prepared for me a place in heaven for all of eternity.

  534. Go to school. Well, actually, you're not in

  535. school right now. Go to work tomorrow.

  536. Go with the attitude of whatever happens today, I'm going to

  537. bring glory to God. Good, bad or ugly, I'm going to

  538. give thanks and see if your day doesn't go better.

  539. See if you don't have an opportunity to impact someone

  540. else's life in a positive way instead of in a negative way.

  541. Go to a softball game and even if a mistake is made, instead of

  542. focusing on that, focusing on the good, whatever it may be,

  543. bring glory to God because of who He is and what He has done,

  544. not what we can do. Every good gift comes from Him.

  545. Let's pray. Heavenly Father, I do give

  546. thanks, Lord, for your love for us, Lord, for Your grace and

  547. Your mercy that you bestow upon us daily that we haven't

  548. deserved, that we don't earn, but You love us anyway.

  549. Your patience, Your kindness, Your goodness that overflows

  550. into our lives. Lord, help us to see it.

  551. Help us to feel it. Lord, help us to understand that

  552. You are right there with us, no matter the circumstance, and

  553. that You will walk us through it.

  554. We may not end up in the destination that we desire, but

  555. You're going to walk with us through it and You will bring us

  556. out on the other side. And because of that, Lord, I

  557. pray that we give you glory and honour, and no matter the

  558. circumstances, we give thanks. Lord, we pray this morning to

  559. our time of invitation, Lord, that you simply move within our

  560. hearts and lives, that we allow your Spirit to mould us and to

  561. shape us and to change us and to bring us to the place that we

  562. can humble ourselves and exalt the name of Jesus.

  563. So in his name I pray. Amen.

  564. Please stand, turn to #465 only trust Him.

  565. We'll do the first, second, and fourth verse.

  566. Thank you for being here this morning.

  567. We'll remind you, those of you who are on the board, we have a

  568. board meeting immediately following our service.

  569. Look, look forward to seeing you there.

  570. And for the rest of you, as you go home and enjoy your

  571. afternoon, give thanks to the Lord because he gave it to you.

  572. Let's pray. Heavenly Father, we are

  573. thankful, Lord, for our time together today.

  574. Lord, we give thanks for our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ.

  575. And Lord, just pray that as we leave this place today, we go

  576. forth ready to share the love of Christ with others.

  577. It's in his name I pray. Amen.
