  1. Go ahead and turn to John Chapter 13 we're.

    John 13 chapter mention

  2. Finally out of 12. Took us three weeks to get out

  3. of that thing. Amen.

  4. All right, we're locking in. You like that?

  5. OK. What's that?

  6. OK, yeah. To get what?

  7. Benji, what are you going to say?

  8. It's time to. What?

  9. He wanted me to say it's time to.

  10. Cook. What are we cooking?

  11. See what happens. Whatever.

  12. OK, all right, so here we go. The context is this guys, that

  13. Jesus, if you remember in John chapter 12, the context is that

    John 12 chapter mention

  14. many did not receive him and so the first 12 chapters really.

  15. We saw the glory of God. Show up as he's doing.

  16. Miracles. He's doing signs and wonders

  17. that point back to who he is as a person, right?

  18. He's not here to give you a better life.

  19. That's not Jesus's plan per SE. I mean, he does want to give you

  20. a better life. He does offer life, but not in

  21. that sense of like I can have. My American dream.

  22. And then also add Jesus on. That's not what I mean.

  23. Many people thought that that was what was going to happen.

  24. They thought, man, I'm getting a free lunch today.

  25. I'm getting, you know, grandma's getting healed.

  26. You know, all these amazing things are happening.

  27. And then they thought, man, what?

  28. They'd be awesome if he could take out Rome.

  29. Because our lives would be a lot easier that way.

  30. That was not Jesus's plan. We'll see here in a moment that

  31. there was another guy. That thought that that was

  32. Jesus's plan and he had some opinions about that, but then so

  33. they saw the glory of God and people did not receive him.

  34. It says his own did not receive him.

  35. And So what did he begin to do right?

  36. Chapter 13, there's a major, major shift and we'll start

  37. reading this in a second, but that shift is now let me ask you

  38. a question this morning. Are you his own?

  39. Are you his? If you were and you were to go

  40. back 2000 years and you were there with Jesus the physical.

  41. Incarnate God man that was on the planet walking, who created

  42. you? Would he look at you and say you

  43. are my? Direction he goes.

  44. Back to his own. There's a few more than a 12 at

  45. that point, but he he goes. Back to his own and he gives

  46. them. Some of the last words, right,

  47. which is go make disciples. We just talked about that a few

  48. minutes ago. So chapter 13 to 17 he begins to

  49. reveal. Really.

  50. The glory of God in this private setting, it's almost like ADS,

  51. right? We have the church and we have

  52. ADS. We're like, this is, you know,

  53. 20 people in today's graduation, right?

  54. Except for those who did not. Pass the test.

  55. No, I'm just kidding. Does everybody graduate?

  56. Where's, where's Edson in? Yeah, as everybody.

  57. Everybody's graduating. Praise God.

  58. That doesn't always happen, does it?

  59. Every week, Every year. OK, Yeah, I know it happens

  60. every year. No worries.

  61. No worries. If you've not done ADS, please

  62. sign up. It's awesome.

  63. It's amazing. I told the students every year,

  64. I mean, like, you know, we, we have about 20 every year.

  65. We we kind of cap it at that and.

  66. They're always like, what am I signing up for?

  67. And I'm like, trust. Me graduation comes I know it's

  68. it's August right now, but graduation comes in April and

  69. there's going to be some tears in the room because you're sad

  70. you don't want to leave this this class it's just so amazing

  71. why? Because.

  72. You go deeper, you're right. You go deeper in God.

  73. You get a little bit more than Sunday service, right?

  74. You get, you get more. You, you, you spend time

  75. together with 20 people. You band together.

  76. It's kind of like Jesus walking with his disciples for three

  77. years, but you get it in eight months.

  78. It's amazing. Please sign up.

  79. If you've not done it, please sign up.

  80. It's amazing. And, and Etzen gets just a

  81. little, a little, a little portion of, of everyone.

  82. No, I'm just kidding. He does, He doesn't.

  83. He does nothing. No, I don't know.

  84. OK, so let's start reading chapter 13 before I get in

  85. trouble. OK, so now, now before the

  86. feast. Of Passover, you guys know what

  87. Passover is. Everybody know what that is.

  88. OK, so back right back in the book of Exodus, second chapter,

  89. second book of your Bible. There was a a celebration called

  90. Passover and basically the Israelites were in slavery under

  91. Pharaoh's reign and rule and reign under for 400 years or.

  92. Something like that. It's crazy.

  93. And so they were crying out to God for salvation.

  94. They're crying out to God for God save us from this evil

  95. tyrant, right? This this evil nation that does

  96. not know God. And so God wanted to come in and

  97. reveal. Himself.

  98. He uses Moses. We'll talk about him when we

  99. close. I have a few things to say

  100. there. But what happened was they

  101. needed a deliverer. And so he rose up Moses.

  102. He was going to be the deliverer for for Israel.

  103. They're going to cross the Red Sea because some of you guys

  104. know that story. And so before they cross they

  105. they celebrate the password. So these 10 plagues, the last

  106. one, the last plague against Pharaoh and his his evil nation

  107. was the kill the first born. And so in order for your first

  108. born child not to be killed, and it's it's symbolic of all of our

  109. lives, in order for you not to experience the wrath of God,

  110. which we all deserve, they needed to kill a lamb, an

  111. innocent lamb, right? And take the blood and wipe the

  112. door frame of it. And so the Angel of Death, which

  113. will all visit you one day. The Angel of death, Will Will

  114. Will was literally passes over your house because he sees the

  115. blood. Isn't that amazing?

  116. So if you do not like you want to know if you're his own, you

  117. need to be marked by the blood of Jesus.

  118. If you are not marked by the blood of Jesus, you are going to

  119. hell. It's very simple.

  120. So it's something outside of you that saves you.

  121. There's nothing inside of you that saves you.

  122. It's all false religion. So good just to mark yourself

  123. like I want the blood of Jesus all my life.

  124. And then so when I die, he overlooks my sin and he says

  125. welcome home. It's amazing.

  126. So they're celebrating that, celebrating Passover, Jesus

  127. knowing that his hour had come, that he would depart out of this

  128. world to the Father, having loved his.

  129. Own any time you see God loving you like you're these people.

  130. Struggle with the love of God. We talked about that a few weeks

  131. ago just. Underline that this is explicit.

  132. You know, there's a lot of implicit passages in the Bible

  133. that talk about the love of God, but this is explicit.

  134. It says he loved his own. Right, He was going back.

  135. He would depart out of this world, back to the Father.

  136. Right He left the glory of heaven to come to A to a dirty

  137. sinful earth right to deal with sinful man, but he was

  138. eventually going to go back to his Father into heaven, having

  139. loved his own who were in the world.

  140. He loved them. What is it say to the end?

  141. He loves them to the end during supper, the devil having already

  142. put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, to

  143. betray him. Jesus knowing it's kind of like

  144. parentheses, right? You got the love of God and then

  145. you got whoa, what's going on here with Jesus?

  146. And then again the other side of the parentheses.

  147. Jesus knowing that the Father had given him all things in his

  148. hand and he had come forth from God and was going back to God,

  149. he got up and he served his people right.

  150. He served his own, got up from supper, laid aside his garments

  151. and taking a towel, he girded himself.

  152. Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the

  153. disciples feet and to wipe them with a towel with which he was

  154. girded. See.

  155. And then so he came to Simon Peter and he said to him, Lord,

  156. do you wash my feet? Jesus answered him and said,

  157. What I do you do not realize now, but you will understand

  158. later on. Hereafter Peter said to him,

  159. never. So you wash my feet.

  160. Jesus answered him, If I do not wash you, you have no part of

  161. me. And it's Simon's like, Lord,

  162. then wash not only my feet, but my whole body, right, my head,

  163. everything, my head to toe, which is very impulsive, right.

  164. I mean, is any any impulsive people like Peter in the room is

  165. like one guy, right. And everybody's, you know,

  166. pretty even keel. Yeah.

  167. OK. Yeah.

  168. Thank you. Like, I, I agree with your

  169. hands, you know, agree, agree with those who raise your hand.

  170. I'm like that. But OK, so.

  171. He had bathe. OK, he who has bathe.

  172. Needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean and you are

  173. clean, but not all of you. For he knew the one who was

  174. betraying him. For this reason he said not all

  175. of you are clean. So when he had washed their feet

  176. and taken his garments and reclined at the table again, he

  177. said to them, do you know what I've what I have done to you?

  178. You call me teacher and Lord, and you're right, for so I am.

  179. If I then the Lord and the teacher washed your feet, you

  180. also washed one another's feet. For I gave you an example that

  181. you should do as I did to you. Truly, I say to you, truly,

  182. truly I say to you, a slave is not greater than his master, nor

  183. is one who is sent greater than the one who sent him.

  184. If you know these things, you're blessed if you do them.

  185. I do not speak to all of you. I know the ones I have chosen,

  186. but it is the scripture might be fulfilled.

  187. He who eats my bread and is lifted up his heel against me.

  188. From now on, I am telling you before it comes to pass, so that

  189. when it does occur, you may believe that I am.

  190. He isn't that so loving of Jesus just to let them in on what's

  191. going to happen so they're not so startled and run away or

  192. doubt. Truly, truly.

  193. I say to you, he who receives whoever I sent receives me, and

  194. he who receives me receives him who sent me.

  195. OK, so three simple points this morning.

  196. The first one is this Jesus's words of love.

  197. Jesus knew. The hour had come and He would

  198. depart and go back to the Father.

  199. But I love this. Now listen, listen very

  200. carefully. It takes knowing who you are,

  201. that's your identity, and knowing where you're going.

  202. That's security and faith in order.

  203. To love. Isn't that true if you're

  204. insecure? And you don't know God, you

  205. don't know His love, you don't know what he's done in your

  206. life. It creates a sense of

  207. insecurity, and you have no desire to serve people.

  208. He's at the hour of his death. The hour has come.

  209. The last thing anybody in this room would want to do is serve

  210. somebody. How many know when?

  211. You are going through a trial. The last thing you want to do is

  212. serve somebody. You want somebody to serve you,

  213. right? I mean, we know that and so.

  214. When you're going through something, when this whole

  215. message is about Jesus, I mean, I.

  216. Hopefully every message is, but I just, I can't help but think

  217. I'm like, I'm going to be very careful this morning not to lift

  218. up anybody but him and. Because he is the hero.

  219. I mean, nobody else is like him. Nobody else is like him.

  220. I mean, he suffered. He was suffering immensely.

  221. He knew exactly what was coming. He knew what the Romans had

  222. power to do, and he's like, you know what I'm going to do?

  223. I'm going to get down on my knees.

  224. I'm going to gird myself like a slave and I'm going to wash

  225. dirty. Feet.

  226. That's amazing. Though Jesus desire to be back

  227. in God's presence, I mean he couldn't wait.

  228. I mean that's a good thing. And and that was great.

  229. God wanted him back. You know, he wanted to be back

  230. in, in heaven, of course, no pain, no suffering, none of

  231. that. But what kept him there like

  232. what kept him on earth? Paul said something very

  233. interesting too as well. I desire to actually be with

  234. Jesus, but for your sakes. I'll be here.

  235. What does that mean? What does that mean to the

  236. purpose and meaning of life? Does anybody know?

  237. It's not you. It's not people like, it's not

  238. you creating a, a, a world where people serve you.

  239. Like that's not what life's about.

  240. Literally. Like if you think about just

  241. even what Paul said, the whole purpose of life is to either be

  242. with Jesus or be on earth and serve.

  243. People. But what does that take?

  244. An incredible amount of what? Humility.

  245. His love for us is unbelievable. It says this.

  246. Not only has he loved his own, but he loved.

  247. Them to the very end. What does that mean?

  248. What does it mean to be to love? What does it mean that and this

  249. is going to blow your minds And I, when I say blow your minds,

  250. meaning that it's so amazing that you're not going to be able

  251. to even comprehend it. You need the Spirit of God.

  252. To do that. What does it mean that when

  253. Jesus says he? Loves his his own to the end.

  254. It means teleos just means. That's the word means to the

  255. end. It means complete.

  256. Fullness. It means it had no beginning and

  257. no end. Whoa.

  258. So you mean to tell me that God's love for you and me had no

  259. beginning and no end? This life will have an end, but

  260. His love will not? How in the world is that even

  261. possible? You know why that's such good

  262. news for those who are trying to catch up with what I'm saying?

  263. Why is that such good news? Were you able to do anything

  264. before you were born? Were you able to do anything

  265. before you even conceived? You didn't have a brain, you

  266. weren't even there. You were nothing, poof, nothing.

  267. Like there's nothingness. You weren't even there, but you

  268. were in God's mind and what we know from Scripture.

  269. Is, he says. He loved you before you were

  270. even born, so why is that such good news?

  271. Just as you never earned the love of God before you even

  272. existed, you'll never earn the love of God here on earth, and

  273. you will never, never earn the love of God.

  274. In heaven and you need to hear that and and knowing that

  275. changes our life. But I don't know about you, but

  276. I struggle with that. Like I get it as a dad, like I

  277. knew, like I know more the love of God because when you you're

  278. with your kids, right? I mean, and so you know, I mean

  279. even even as a 14 year old, right?

  280. I mean like I. Was 14 she's we're.

  281. Flying to Denver and she's just, it was so.

  282. Funny on the airplane, she's she's does this.

  283. She's like, I normally like the aisle seat.

  284. Just quick, easy, boom, you know, you need to go to the

  285. bathroom. You're not like trying to

  286. awkwardly get over to people. So I'm just like, I like the

  287. aisle. You right no one likes the

  288. middle seat and so we are going there we.

  289. Are like I, I, I'm on the aisle, she's in the middle it's fine

  290. and no one's next to us. She she gets the layout it's

  291. great She's like, dude, I love traveling, you know, and, but

  292. then then on the way back, you know, typical Orlando flights,

  293. right booked full right going other places.

  294. I don't know why it's not like that, but going home, going to

  295. Orlando, it's like I don't think it's always booked full so.

  296. And, and I was like, I have a feeling this plane is booked

  297. full. Like, yeah, it, it probably is.

  298. You know, this is our city. This is where we live.

  299. It's. Always going to be that way.

  300. Disney World, Everybody's in their Disney outfits, you know,

  301. they're all going to Disney World and.

  302. She's like, you're taking the middle seat.

  303. I. Was like.

  304. If my wife was there, she'd be like.

  305. Don't let her do that. Don't let her do that.

  306. I'm like, OK, so I take the middle seat.

  307. She's having fun. She's like chilling, laying

  308. back, feet hanging off, dangling.

  309. And no joke, I'm like reading this book.

  310. I'm getting all into it and I'm leaning so hard to the right.

  311. This dude, no joke, he. Wakes her up.

  312. He's like, hey, can I get a little bit more space?

  313. And I'm looking I'm like. Oh gosh, I'm so sorry.

  314. I'm like. No awareness, none at all.

  315. I'm into my book, into my book. It's a good book.

  316. And I'm just told no awareness. But you, you know, and then.

  317. Allen just like, looks over and she's just like giggles.

  318. She's like. You know, like she goes back to

  319. sleep. But what?

  320. OK, say all that. What you do for the people you

  321. love is crazy, right? It's crazy.

  322. It's always gets crazy. It is just like, you know, you

  323. don't even think about it. I didn't even think about, like,

  324. if I thought about long enough, I'd probably think, no, no,

  325. dude, you're 14, man. Get over there and then get in

  326. the middle, you know? But what you do like, I get it

  327. as a dad, like you love your kids.

  328. And it says something so interesting in Luke, right?

  329. If your kid. Asks you for a loaf of bread?

  330. Do you give them a rock? If you ask them for what?

  331. An egg? Do you give them a scorpion?

  332. You being evil. Right.

  333. Do you love your kids? You love your kids?

  334. How much more God, being perfect loves you and gives you the Holy

  335. Spirit to those you ask. Why do you need the Holy Spirit?

  336. Because it says in Romans 5, what what does it say?

  337. You don't you can't experience the love of God without the

  338. Spirit of God. So I was praying for somebody

  339. over here going through a hard time, lost his dad right during

  340. the month of May and he's like, every time I'm reminded of

  341. finals week, I'm. Reminded of my dad's death when

  342. I was younger, I said, look, I don't know how to help.

  343. I, I don't. All I know is we have a lot of

  344. great fathers in the room and they'll be there for you.

  345. But what I do know is this is God the Father is going to

  346. father you perfectly. And you're going to need the

  347. Holy Spirit right now to experience that.

  348. That's why the Psalm say right, taste.

  349. And see, it's not just yeah, God loves you, but he loves you.

  350. Like it's amazing. I mean, literally we have if you

  351. just turn just. For a second, I just want you to

  352. see it just in your own Bible, OK?

  353. Psalm 136. I think you all know this one,

  354. right? Psalm 136.

  355. Sometimes when Ricky singing, he repeats himself over and over

  356. again. Some of you guys are annoyed by

  357. that. Some of you guys like that.

  358. But I'm going to show you real quick.

  359. What did I say? Psalm 130?

  360. I said 136, right? I said 1/26, 1:36. 26 times.

  361. It literally repeats itself. The love, The love of God lasts

  362. forever, right? His loving kindness is

  363. everlasting. 26 times. I wrote that at the top of my

  364. Bible 26 times. I can't account it for myself 26

  365. times. He says that and he goes through

  366. and he's like give thanks to the Lord for he is good.

  367. Give thanks to the Lord for give.

  368. Thanks, give thanks, give thanks.

  369. His loving kindness lasts forever and it's just going

  370. through this and it says in verse 10.

  371. To him who smote the Egyptians in their first born, there you

  372. go again. There's the the Passover.

  373. It's a reminder. What is that?

  374. A reminder of? You were lost in your sin.

  375. You had nothing to do with the love of God, but He found you

  376. and He saved you, and He gave you a purpose.

  377. And a family thank you for your love.

  378. This is not. This is not a classroom.

  379. This is not a classroom like. Hey, God loves you and you

  380. didn't know that, like intellectually.

  381. No, God loves you and you need to experience that because it

  382. will transform your life. Remember, I said that's what

  383. we're about around here, Transformation.

  384. To him who divided the Red Sea, verse 13, his loving kind is a

  385. reminder. And you guys can remind you, you

  386. literally if you wanted to. And I'm not being heretical at

  387. any at all. You can write your own song.

  388. I mean, you can't put it in your Bible.

  389. I mean, you can't put. It in your Bible.

  390. But you know what? I mean, you can write your own

  391. song and I, I would encourage you to do it because really, the

  392. Red Sea means nothing to you. Red Sea gets farted.

  393. Wow, it's amazing. I mean, it's good for those

  394. guys. I mean, I'm so thankful for

  395. Israel, but for you it might sound a little different.

  396. I was in. Drugs, lost, broken in

  397. depression. But someone shared the gospel

  398. with me. His loving kindness endure us

  399. forever. You can write that if you want

  400. to. You can write that.

  401. Not only just that one day when you're 18.

  402. Whatever. For me, at least for the last 25

  403. 1/2 years, at least for me, for Dick, I don't know where Dick's

  404. at, but for the last 155 years, right?

  405. Did I get that right? OK, that's right.

  406. Just checking. OK, back to John 13.

  407. Before I get in more trouble had no beginning or end.

  408. OK so the second thing against go.

  409. It goes literally from the brightness of Jesus's love to

  410. the darkness of Judas's heart. You know what's so crazy about

  411. this? The devil put it inside his

  412. heart. The devil ever put something

  413. inside your heart Anybody. Anybody want to be honest.

  414. I would imagine everybody, why do you think people do stupid

  415. stuff there Isn't there just a shooting just happened.

  416. I feel like these things happened all the time.

  417. Now. It's pretty normal in the United

  418. States of America. It's pretty sad.

  419. But I read about that and it said that the guy who did that,

  420. the guy who shot up all those kids, it said that he wrote,

  421. wrote something and said the devil came in my heart.

  422. It said he, he said he, he felt darkness.

  423. He extends such darkness. The devil does.

  424. Work with already something that's in your heart and it's

  425. called sin. You can't ultimately blame the

  426. devil. The devil made me do it.

  427. That doesn't work. Yes, the devil had influence and

  428. what what the problem with Judas was is he never dealt with the

  429. sin in his heart. You know what that sin was?

  430. Pride, greed and selfishness and never got dealt with.

  431. So he killed God. Didn't work.

  432. If you never deal with the sin in your heart, it will only grow

  433. and get more ugly and more disastrous.

  434. And it will that will end up hurting people, which it says.

  435. But what's so crazy about this whole thing?

  436. It's not even that. What's so crazy is that Jesus

  437. washed his feet. If you were to think about this,

  438. if you were to think if like the person in front of you that

  439. you're about to serve the devil told him to do something, the

  440. last thing you want to do is serve that guy.

  441. But Jesus did so. If you think you have so much

  442. evil in your heart that you don't think God can do anything

  443. with that, you're crazy, because God can.

  444. You could be a Judas and he's still serving you.

  445. You and I want to know even more crazier than that.

  446. Here's the warning. Not only that, Jesus wash this

  447. man's feet. Who the devil tempted to do

  448. something? Really.

  449. Bad to the person who's washing the feet, by the way, but that

  450. love never actually did anything to his heart.

  451. So I say. This morning I could tell you

  452. until I'm blue in the face, God loves you, God loves you, God

  453. loves you, God loves you. But if you never receive it, you

  454. will be a Judas. Because the devil's tempting us

  455. all the time. And the only way to actually say

  456. no to him and yes to God is to know that he loves you.

  457. God loves you, and he is drawing you in and he's going to do

  458. whatever it takes to come after you.

  459. Like we just said that. Sing that song.

  460. His love is coming after us because it is #3 you're probably

  461. like #3 what's number one and two?

  462. OK, I understand I'm bad at this.

  463. OK, I'll just tell you Jesus number one is Jesus's words of

  464. love. OK?

  465. Number 2 is verse 2. Jesus is hard, hard heart #3

  466. Jesus's demonstration of his love for us.

  467. And I think that's what's so important is that he does not,

  468. Jesus does not remain in the realm of words.

  469. He's not just about, you know, why people leave the church is

  470. because they hear a lot about God loves you, God loves you,

  471. but they never see a demonstration of that, not

  472. around here. We're going to be not only a

  473. loving church and talk about the love of God, but we're also

  474. going to demonstrate that to each other.

  475. And this is from verse 3 to 11. It takes a lot of humility to do

  476. what Jesus did, and I love this. The way it starts is Jesus

  477. knowing that he has his hour had come and that he would depart

  478. from this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in

  479. the world. He loved them to the end.

  480. Skip Judas for a second. Jesus knowing that the Father

  481. had given him all things into his hands.

  482. He had such security and knowing that God loves him so much and

  483. he couldn't wait to see God's face and that he had come forth

  484. from God. He knew where he was coming from

  485. and he knew he was going back to it says in verse four.

  486. He got up, he took action, he got up and he started serving.

  487. That is the only way to sustain the purposes of God for you many

  488. people, it says in Ecclesiastes. Many people have a great start,

  489. but they do not have a good end. So you can have you could be a

  490. big dreamer. We're going to do all these

  491. amazing things. It's going to be amazing.

  492. Oh my goodness, I like you got to know who cares if you don't

  493. finish it? The reality is like it doesn't

  494. matter. Like I, I, I almost like we have

  495. so much idealism in our country, the whole United States of

  496. America, when I see the flag of America is idealism, but we need

  497. a dose of realism. We need to be known, not.

  498. Just for what we start, but how we end that is this church.

  499. That's who we want to be. Jesus finished well.

  500. He came and said, behold, right? He'd even say it.

  501. John. John the Baptist said behold the

  502. Lamb of God. Chapter 1, John right.

  503. Chapter 13, still doing it. Obviously, chapter 18 and 19, he

  504. dies, resurrects, he's still. He's in the game, he finishes

  505. right for the Hebrews 12. It's the whole thing right?

  506. Hebrews 12 for the joy separate form he endured the cross.

  507. We've got to be a people to not only have a good start, but a an

  508. incredible finish. And sometimes, I mean, I mean,

  509. and I'm not talking about like Jesus did not have a finish.

  510. We're like, woo, this is awesome.

  511. He came in that way in a sense, not in boasting way or anything.

  512. He came in healthy. As far as we know, his bones

  513. were intact. I mean, there was, he wasn't

  514. like beaten up, but at the end of his life he was beaten up.

  515. And some of us that's, I mean, we're, if you're living out the

  516. things of God, like if you're in the Kingdom, you're giving your

  517. life, that's what you're going to look like all scarred up

  518. bullet wounds, like, you know, maybe no nose, ear missing or

  519. something or whatever it is, it doesn't matter.

  520. You're going to get a brand new body when you go to heaven.

  521. And that's what God's called us to.

  522. He's called us to finish well and it's not going to look.

  523. Pretty sometimes when we finish, but it's going to be good.

  524. Amen. That's our life.

  525. That's what we leave. Much of today's love is

  526. narcissistic. Any narcissist in the room?

  527. No. One wants to admit that that's

  528. weird. It's awkward.

  529. Right self focused, right self focused, self gratifying, right?

  530. I mean, this is a fickle, fickle love.

  531. I mean, I kind of love Jesus when he's feeding me, but I'm

  532. not really loving Jesus when he's asking me to deny myself

  533. and pick up the cross and follow Him.

  534. I'm tempted to read in First Corinthians 13, but I'm only on

  535. .3 and I just, I mean, I just. Can you read?

  536. Can you read First Corinthians 13 like on your own at some

  537. point? Yeah, all promise you're shaking

  538. your head. I'm going to keep you

  539. accountable to that at some point, but so good.

  540. This is love is patient, right? Do you see incredible patience

  541. here? Do you know that just moments

  542. before. Let me just give you a few

  543. quotes from his group of people that he calls his disciples, OK?

  544. A few, a few. Moments, scenes before,

  545. disciples were saying, Hey, let's call down fire from

  546. heaven, kill everybody that does not respond to you rightly,

  547. Nathaniel said. Can anything good come out of

  548. Nazareth? I don't know.

  549. We have no record of. Nathaniel apologizing to Jesus

  550. at some point. Maybe at that point when?

  551. He's washing his feet is like, hey, so that thing about

  552. Nazareth, I guess a good thing did come out of Nazareth, you

  553. know, like, what did he say? Like it's awkward, you know, And

  554. then Jesus shows Jesus shares something he says to Peter,

  555. Satan desires to sift you like wheat because Peter, you're

  556. going to deny me a few times. He's washing these people's

  557. feet. He knows their past failures,

  558. their pet present failures. And look, we just showed here

  559. because after the feet washing, Jesus tells that to Peter, he

  560. knows his their future failures. You know what's different about

  561. Jesus, different about him and us?

  562. As we look at people, Jesus looks at their eventual

  563. victories. That's how he sees people.

  564. He sees people and what they can become as God gets a hold of

  565. their life, as they humble themselves and submit to His

  566. leadership. If you think.

  567. All that was interesting during that scene, literally right up

  568. that John does not show that John's trying to make a

  569. different argument. But we have to go back to the

  570. synoptic gospels, Matthew, Mark and Luke, and we look back and

  571. at the very table that they're having the Passover meal.

  572. What are they doing? What are these jokers doing?

  573. They're arguing about who's the greatest.

  574. Can you imagine that? What's going through the

  575. Savior's mind about what he's about to do?

  576. He's about to go to a cross, but before he gets to the cross,

  577. he's going to get beaten up like no one's ever gotten beaten up

  578. before, right? Beer being plucked out, nail

  579. like thorns going through his his head, blood coming down 39

  580. lashes with glass, pieces of glass and rock to just shred his

  581. body apart. And these?

  582. Dudes are all talking about who's the greatest.

  583. And at that moment when everybody is talking about who's

  584. the greatest, you have to remember something there.

  585. There was no slave in that room at the time because it's just

  586. his own. So that says we know nobody else

  587. is in the room. Mary wasn't there, Lazarus

  588. wasn't there. Nobody else but his own, no

  589. slave. And Jesus probably was going

  590. through his mind. He's probably thinking, at what

  591. point are one of these guys going to do the hard work of

  592. washing the feet before we have a meal?

  593. When no one took action, he took action and the amount of love

  594. that you see here, he takes right?

  595. Instead of serving, they argued who is the greatest?

  596. So Jesus took action. He literally wore what he was

  597. doing is He took off his garment and he wrapped around his waist.

  598. He was wearing what slaves would wear.

  599. And that's what made Peter. Do you ever have just a loss of

  600. words or just it just feels so uncomfortable, so awkward?

  601. That's what he's doing. This is nervous talk.

  602. He's like, I, I mean, you're not going to wash my feet, you know,

  603. like, just don't, don't do that. And then he's like, wash my

  604. whole body. I don't.

  605. I don't. He's, he's, he's frantic, he's

  606. right, he's neurotic. He's, he's freaking out because

  607. he's like, you're the king. Kings do not do this and Jesus

  608. had to remind him and the reason why.

  609. What do you have to remind him of?

  610. He's like, I'm coming as a lamb, Peter, I'm coming to.

  611. Serve you and die for you. I'm not coming as a king.

  612. That's for later, and I love this about if you think this

  613. morning you're like, man, I don't know.

  614. I just. I'm so sick of of me.

  615. Could you know, committing the same sin over and over and over

  616. again. I'm, I'm weak, I'm weak, I'm

  617. weak. If you're just like man, there's

  618. no hope. There is hope for you this

  619. morning because God can't actually change your life.

  620. And I want you to just look for a second here and, and Peter

  621. look at just a few verses. First of all, he writes this.

  622. Remember who did Mark get help from writing his gospel?

  623. Basically, scholars say Peter was behind Mark writing the

  624. Gospel. For whatever reason, Jesus, you

  625. know, the Holy Spirit, didn't want Peter to write a gospel.

  626. He wrote some letters and a few letters, and I'll show you that

  627. here in a second. But Mark 10:45, what do you

    Mark 10:45

  628. think was going through Peter's mind years later after the

  629. resurrection? Jesus came not to be served, but

  630. to serve others and give his life as a ransom.

  631. That is our job, right? That's what we do.

  632. But listen to these first. Peter, 118 to 19.

  633. You were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or

  634. gold from your futile way of life inherited from your

  635. forefathers, but with the precious blood of the Lamb,

  636. unblemished and spotless blood of Christ.

  637. Remember, when do you remember when Jesus said this?

  638. He's like, you're not going to understand this now, but you're

  639. going to stand it later. There's just certain things that

  640. in the moment right now where you're sitting, you're like, I

  641. don't understand what God's doing in my life.

  642. I don't like it. I'm going through something, but

  643. you're going to understand it later.

  644. He's going to reveal why He's taking you through this.

  645. It's not now, but if you stick with it long enough and you

  646. persevere, He will show you, and I love this about Peter.

  647. He's transformed. First Peter 224, Jesus bore our

  648. sins and his body on the cross so that we might die to sin and

  649. live to righteousness. It's a different man.

  650. First Peter 318 for Christ died for all sins, once or for all,

  651. just the just, for the unjust, so that he might bring us to

  652. God. And then first Peter 5, I love

  653. this. This is one of my favorites.

  654. I want you to just picture with me Peter saying all those silly

  655. things as Jesus is washing his feet and then I want you to see

  656. the life transform. He's looking back like we all

  657. will one day look back at the trials and stuff we've gone

  658. through and say that's embarrassing that the things

  659. that I said and did, but look at his grace in my life.

  660. Therefore I exhort the elders. He's rocketed now, right?

  661. He's pouring into other leaders. They're planting churches, says.

  662. Therefore, I exhort the elders among you as your fellow fellow

  663. elder, not above you, but I'm with you.

  664. Is that just? It's reeking of humility and the

  665. witness of the sufferings of Christ and the partaker also of

  666. the glory that is to be revealed.

  667. Shepherd, the flock of God among you, exercising oversight, not

  668. under compulsion, but voluntarily, according to the

  669. will of God, and not for shorted gain, but with eagerness, nor

  670. yet as lording it over those allotted to your charge, but

  671. proving to be examples to the flock.

  672. And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the

  673. unfading crown of glory. You younger men, likewise be

  674. subject to your elders, and all of you clothe yourselves with

  675. humility towards one another. For God is opposed to the proud,

  676. but gives grace to the humble. Therefore humble yourselves

  677. under the mighty hand of God, that He might exalt you at the

  678. proper time, casting all your anxiety on to Him, because He

  679. cares for you. This is a man who experienced

  680. all this. He says be.

  681. Sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil,

  682. prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking to devour someone.

  683. Right Be, he says, but resist him.

  684. She had to do at one point, right?

  685. Firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of

  686. suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are around

  687. the world. Right after you have suffered

  688. for a little while, the God of all grace.

  689. I love this. After you suffered a little

  690. while, the God of all grace, who calls you to His eternal glory

  691. in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen and

  692. establish you to Him be the dominion, and forever and ever.

  693. Amen. That good he experienced that he

  694. was impulsive. So what's going on here?

  695. Just real briefly, right? What does he mean?

  696. What is Jesus saying to you and me?

  697. What is he saying is a wave application right now?

  698. What is he? Saying about OK, once you've

  699. been washed, what is he talking about?

  700. He's saying that once you've taken a shower right in the

  701. morning, when you get up in the morning, you take a shower or

  702. some of you guys take the night before, whatever, but you take a

  703. shower in the morning and then you go and get dirty all day,

  704. right? In a in a way like.

  705. At least first century of talking, right.

  706. So these people, they took a shower in the morning, they

  707. bathed and then they the part that got the most dirty

  708. throughout the day and it's just symbolic.

  709. It's just a way of an example their feet.

  710. And so when they walked into people's homes to have dinner,

  711. someone would be there to wash their feet.

  712. So what Jesus is saying is all of you are washed.

  713. If you come to Christ, you are washed.

  714. Like one of my favorite passages is First Corinthians 6.

  715. He's listing all these crazy sins which you find yourself in,

  716. right? And he's saying once were you,

  717. but now you're washed. You're washed.

  718. So it's not about losing what it's not about.

  719. He's like, you're not a part of me.

  720. If I can't wash your feet, then you have no part of me.

  721. What is he saying? Guys?

  722. This is so important. It is not just saying some.

  723. Prayer when you were little. It's not even about losing your

  724. salvation, but it's about losing intimacy with Jesus.

  725. What he's saying is what I want, which is really the whole point

  726. of this message, I think what Jesus trying to communicate to

  727. us. Just look, you come to me, I'll

  728. wash you, come clean completely. You'll never, ever have to worry

  729. about past, present, and future sin.

  730. It is 100% forgiven. But what I want, and a lot of

  731. churches misses, miss this, a lot of believers miss this.

  732. But what he wants more than anything else is fellowship with

  733. you. So good, isn't it?

  734. I mean, this is what he wants. This is what God of the universe

  735. wants with you. He wants fellowship with you.

  736. He literally wants to know you like a friend.

  737. When's the last time you thought about that and just went outside

  738. your front door and just went for a walk with God?

  739. Just walk with him, telling him how you feel, listening to his

  740. voice. Being able to walk in

  741. fellowship. He's saying, look, if you want

  742. to actually live this life, you're going to have to come to

  743. me daily to confess your sins, to agree that yes, you're yes,

  744. I've washed all of your sin away.

  745. But in order for us to fellowship.

  746. I want you to be holy. I want you to clean the dirt off

  747. from this world. You just thought about that.

  748. You just had a thought. Was evil wrong?

  749. Let me cleanse you and wash your feet, not save you again and

  750. again and again. But walk with you, Amen.

  751. That's what he's asking you to do.

  752. He's asking you to come to him daily, not to be fully clean.

  753. From all your. Past sins, but daily it's a

  754. daily walk with him. It's a daily walk with him and

  755. confessing all confession means guys, is this is just to agree

  756. you're you're basically coming to God that first John 19 right,

  757. you're coming to him confessing your sins to him.

  758. He's talking to believers by the way, right in first John, he's

  759. talking to unbelievers in John his gospel.

  760. He's talking to believers in his letter and he's saying, look, I

  761. want you just to come to Jesus and just confess your sins to

  762. him and he is faithful, faithful to cleanse you of all and

  763. righteousness. Just come to him and confession.

  764. All confession is, is just to agree.

  765. Jesus. I agree that what I just did was

  766. wrong. I said what I said was wrong,

  767. what I, what I thought was wrong, what I did was wrong.

  768. I agree with you. Not only do I agree that that

  769. was sinful, but I agree that you were able to forgive me from all

  770. of that. And now I get to enter this

  771. amazing, beautiful fellowship with you.

  772. As we close, I just, I want to just share a few more things

  773. here because I think God is inviting.

  774. I believe he's inviting all of us to come to him this morning.

  775. And James 48 says this, draw near to Goddess and he will draw

  776. near to God and he will draw nearer to you.

  777. When we take a step, when we choose to take a step forward in

  778. him drawing near, he will draw near to us.

  779. Isn't that interesting that it says this at 1st And I'll I'll

  780. I'll get to why that is and I'll make sense of that hopefully in

  781. the end. But it almost.

  782. Looks like man, is that up to us?

  783. Is it up to us? Like man, we have to draw near.

  784. What if I don't want to draw near?

  785. Like I, I, I don't have any strength to draw near.

  786. But he says if you just take one little step, a mustard seat of

  787. faith, just take one small step towards him, he will draw near

  788. to us. I want you to turn really quick

  789. to Exodus chapter 3. Exodus chapter 3.

Exodus 3 chapter mention Exodus 3 chapter mention

  790. Now Moses was pastoring the flock of Jethro, his

  791. father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to

  792. the West side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain

  793. of God. The Angel of the Lord appeared

  794. to him in a blazing fire from the midst of the Bush, and he

  795. looked and behold, the Bush was burning with fire, yet the Bush

  796. was not consumed. This dude who is out there, if

  797. you have to remember right, he grew up in Egypt.

  798. He killed a guy. He had a runaway right because

  799. he was trying to save God's people with his own strength.

  800. That didn't work. So God has sent him to the

  801. desert for 40 years. It's a long time.

  802. She got used to tumbling weeds, you know what I mean?

  803. It's just tumbling. And they would blow up, right?

  804. I mean, just this desert, these things would blow up all the

  805. time. They'd be.

  806. Consumed to be. Just ashes.

  807. Well, he's like this one caught his eye.

  808. It's like this thing's not turning to ash.

  809. It's still burning. That's weird, Moses said.

  810. I must turn aside now and see this marvelous light and why the

  811. Bush is not burned up. I want to ask the question when

  812. God is trying to get our attention this morning and even

  813. in your life right now, He wants to fellowship with you.

  814. He'll use whatever means possible, but it's up to you to

  815. turn aside. Says here, right?

  816. I must turn aside now and see this marvelous sight and why the

  817. Bush is not burned up. And when the Lord saw.

  818. That he turned aside to look. God called to him from the midst

  819. of the Bush and said, Moses, Moses.

  820. And he said, here I am. Of course.

  821. Then he's like standing on holy ground.

  822. Remove your sandals and God begins to reveal himself to

  823. Moses. But he needed to turn aside.

  824. He needs to pay attention. To the presence of God, He

  825. needed to pay attention. To God's voice.

  826. You think maybe that was the only time in Scripture?

  827. Well, no, there's more before we get there.

  828. It's very interesting, Moses. Then had in a sense full

  829. control, right he he got the people he.

  830. You know, through the plagues and then the Passover, the whole

  831. thing, right? And they're going through the

  832. desert and it's interesting. I always thought it was

  833. interesting. Why didn't God just like if they

  834. needed to get away from those evil people, why did God not

  835. just take him through a shortcut?

  836. Why did he have to go? It didn't say.

  837. You're a Bible scholar in the room.

  838. Test me on this, he didn't say. Let my people go so that we

  839. might worship Him in the land. I promise.

  840. But I might worship him in the desert.

  841. Why? Because if you if those.

  842. People in Israel were anything like us.

  843. If we get everything we want, we begin worshipping the things of

  844. God, not God himself. So.

  845. God in his mercy. If you're going through a trial

  846. this morning, God in his mercy is taking you through the desert

  847. a little longer way than the shortcut to get there.

  848. So that you might meet with him. So that we don't worship the

  849. promises of God, but the promisor.

  850. Do you understand what life's all about?

  851. If you came this morning, I'm not sure what you think church

  852. is all about. But it's not.

  853. About a lesson. I'm not giving a Lesson plan

  854. today. Sometimes I don't even know

  855. what's going to come out of my mouth at the times.

  856. But what God is wanting to set up in your life is an.

  857. Encounter with him and it's not just once a month or once a

  858. year, but every day and he's looking for a people that will

  859. turn aside. You.

  860. Fast forward a little bit, you enter into the story of.

  861. Samuel, Samuel's sleeping and he just, he's like, you don't get a

  862. knock, but he's like Samuel Samuel.

  863. He's like, what's going on? What's happening?

  864. Is it a dream? I don't know.

  865. And he's like, no, it's a voice. She goes to Eli.

  866. You calling me? Eli's like go to bed.

  867. You know. And so he goes to bed.

  868. Samuel, Samuel. He gets up again.

  869. He's like, what's going on? God could have done it another.

  870. Way God doesn't, you know, if he really wants.

  871. Our attention, he can get it right.

  872. He can do a lot of stuff. What is he doing?

  873. What's he doing? He's drawing him near.

  874. He's wanting him to respond. Not to Eli, not to man.

  875. But to God he Fast forward. Jesus says hey.

  876. Disciples, take the boat, go to the other side, I'll meet you

  877. there. So Jesus goes to spend time with

  878. God, and he decides. To walk on water.

  879. It's pretty cool. It's cool to decide that, like

  880. today, I'm going to walk on water.

  881. She's walking on water. It's amazing.

  882. He's walking on water. What does he do?

  883. Says he intends to pass them by. Wait a second.

  884. Intends to pass them by like you.

  885. Only that's not right. Like, why would you?

  886. He intends to pass them by. Why?

  887. Because God is not here to force you to Himself.

  888. He wants to be wanted. Do you understand that when you

  889. draw near to God, he's drawing near to you.

  890. The God of the universe that made you wants to be wanted.

  891. You're like, what in the world? What kind of universe am I in?

  892. You know, he's he's tending to walk by and they're freaking

  893. out. We're going to die.

  894. You know, just seeing that like, he's like fools, you know, like,

  895. I mean literally like they're like, where am I and what

  896. happens? Please help us.

  897. Does he keep walking? Does Jesus keep walking when you

  898. ask for help? Does he keep walking?

  899. He intended to pass by, but when he heard their cry.

  900. He went into the boat. If you're going through

  901. something this morning, I want you to understand something very

  902. clearly. When he calls your name.

  903. There are times when we need to respond when you're but other

  904. times you are in a dark scene and you do not know which way is

  905. up when you cry out to God, he is not he does not keep walking.

  906. He wants to be wanted and there are just two people, right?

  907. And there's two kinds of people when he's washing the feet in

  908. the room right? And John 13, he's kneeling down

  909. like with a towel with a basin and he's kneeling down to these

  910. jokers that were literally all like saying, oh, hey, who's the

  911. greatest? Are you going to be in the right

  912. hand? Are you going to be in the right

  913. hand? What did my mom say this and

  914. that and the other. And Jesus is like, he's just

  915. doing it. He's not.

  916. I don't know if he's a smirk on his face or smile.

  917. I don't know what, but you know, he's just going for it.

  918. He's serving them. And he's saying, look, I want

  919. you to do the same thing. I don't want you look, you all

  920. know, like washing people's feet.

  921. That's not like I don't know if you maybe I mean we've done that

  922. before is not do as I did as it's.

  923. A very important Greek work, right as I did not the same

  924. thing, not do the same thing that I did, but do as I did.

  925. What is he talking about? It's.

  926. Humble love, it's serving, but I hesitate.

  927. I was like, man, I was going to just do all this like this.

  928. A sermon on like humble serving. You know, I'm like, I don't

  929. know. I just feel like we all would

  930. get up out of the chair and be like, OK, we got to do this.

  931. That's not the point of this message.

  932. The point of this message is Jesus gets down on his knees and

  933. a few scenes later he's going to die in a cross for these very

  934. guys who are just talking about who's the greatest.

  935. He wants to serve you this morning.

  936. Do you? Understand that and that doesn't

  937. make sense to anybody. You'd much rather me say get up

  938. by your seat, Sir. You know, like, let's go.

  939. No, no, no, no, no. He wants to serve you this

  940. morning. I don't.

  941. Know what you're going through, but he desires to come alongside

  942. you and hear your cry. But he wants to be wanted.

  943. That's the nature of God. He wants to be wanted.

  944. He wants to. He wants you to draw near to

  945. this one. Who is going to?

  946. Serve you and meet all of your needs.

  947. Amen. That's who he is.

  948. He wakes you. Up in the morning.

  949. If he does 3:00 in the morning some sometimes right with all

  950. the worries of the world, he's not wanting you to just go to

  951. sleep and but maybe he wants to meet with you and calm your

  952. fears as you draw near to him. You just take one step.

  953. Don't even have to be. Some of your just laying there.

  954. I don't even know if I can take this step.

  955. I can't take this step but. You take this step in your mind,

  956. you take this step in your heart.

  957. You say, God, I'm drawing, choosing to draw near to you,

  958. and I know that you promised to draw near.

  959. To me in this moment. And you meet with him.

  960. Amen. Lastly.

  961. I think it's a word for our church.

  962. I, I had this, this word that I, you know, Psalm, like Exodus 33

  963. when they're going through the desert and they're getting to

  964. know God. This is after the manna, after

  965. the quail, after all the stuff, the water bursting from the

  966. rock. He get they all.

  967. I mean, they get to meet. God guys, I mean like if anybody

  968. like I was like man, that would be so cool to watch God move and

  969. it show his love in a way, right?

  970. But God gets to this point where he says, Hey, I'm actually not

  971. going with you to the promised land.

  972. What did Moses say? God if, I mean essentially he

  973. says, God, if, if, if you, if you're not going to this land

  974. that you've called us to, it's not a promised land, it's hell.

  975. I, I, I don't, I don't want to go without you.

  976. And I think when I think about our church, like, OK, we've man,

  977. God's doing so many amazing things in our church.

  978. It's incredible. I love what God's doing in our

  979. church. He's saving people.

  980. People are getting baptized and people are coming.

  981. It's awesome. It's amazing.

  982. But God is just so, you know, like as we enter into a new

  983. season, the summer season, we come back to the fall.

  984. It is no promised land without God.

  985. We want him. I, I just we, we, we cannot go

  986. without like, do you understand? Like like this whole when you

  987. read the scriptures and I just oh, it's like like just want to.

  988. Everybody to know this, you know.

  989. When you what gives me great. Joy is to sit in my office a few

  990. times a week and just to sit with God and to study his word.

  991. And I get to. See.

  992. First hand before I get to deliver it and it's so

  993. incredible those moments of I remember MacArthur saying like,

  994. oh, it's just sanctify. It's like sanctifying you and I

  995. believe that. And as I'm I'm reading the

  996. scripture, I'm like, he really does love us.

  997. Like he really does set up all everything, everything in our

  998. life, every trial in your life, he is this.

  999. Divine setup and a test to test us.

1000. Do we want him or not in the successes?

1001. Would we go to the promised Land and would we?

1002. Go to the next level of success without him.

1003. That's a test what we're all going to go through very soon.

1004. Or when we're going through a trial, are we, are we wanting to

1005. just abandoned ship and leave God?

1006. No, God sets all that up so that we might know him in the

1007. successes. We might follow Him and say,

1008. God, I am not going to whatever next level that is without you

1009. because you are everything to me.

1010. And on the other side, God, I don't really know how I'm going

1011. to make it through this, but I'm going to take one step towards

1012. you in faith and I'm going to meet you there because you set

1013. this up in my life, this painful circumstance in my life to meet

1014. with you because that's what this whole thing is about, this

  1015. meeting with God. Amen.

1016. We just pray for everyone. It's just, why don't we just

1017. quickly stand to our feet and just maybe even open up our arms

1018. and our hands or open them this way.

1019. Just receive the love of God this morning.

1020. Lord, we know that we are desperate.

1021. We we can't. Actually like a mantra like just

1022. say God loves me, God loves me, God loves me.

1023. That doesn't. Work what works is what you said

1024. in scripture, that you would reveal yourself to your people.

1025. You love us and you want to meet with us, but it is the power of

1026. the Spirit that allows us to experience the love of God when

1027. we're in a. Trial and we're crying out like

1028. the disciples on that dark scene in the boat.

1029. So you'd come in and rescue them.

1030. We're like Samuel just minding his own business or like Moses

1031. just doing the normal work. He was just working.

  1032. He was a farmer. He's he's a shepherd.

  1033. I mean, he's a. He's just working like many of

1034. you work throughout the week. And are you hearing, MM, are you

1035. hearing Nathan? Nathan, are you hearing?

1036. Are you turning aside from your work in the moment to hear God

1037. and to hear His love, to hear Him reveal Himself to you?

1038. And Lord, I pray that we would pause and we would see that you

1039. are here. You're coming to serve, You came

1040. to serve us, You came to die for us.

1041. Lord, we thank you for your love and I just ask you for every

1042. person in this room and they would experience your deep love.

1043. This morning that would transform their lives that they

1044. would not be the same. Like Moses was not the same,

1045. Samuel is not the same, the disciples were not the same.

1046. Why? Because when they heard you

1047. coming, when they saw you coming, they turned aside.

1048. Because you want to be wanted. But all along the crazy thing

1049. is, is even though we you said draw near to me and I'll draw

1050. near to you ultimately in throughout the scripture, you.

1051. Were ultimately the first one to draw near to us.

1052. We thank you that you initiated all of this.

1053. So for feeling weak, we're like, I have no energy to actually

  1054. take a step. Forward.

1055. God's going to give you that strength because He is the

1056. initiator. All along, His love has been

1057. coming after us. His love comes after us over and

1058. over and over again because. We are too weak.

1059. He is strong and Lord, I pray for every person to receive your

1060. love this morning. Especially for those who are

1061. really hurting and have a lot going on.

1062. I just pray that they would be encouraged even by that dark

1063. scene. Is Jesus intended to walk by

1064. just to test them, to see where are they going to find strength

1065. today? They're going to find in the

1066. world. They're going to find in

1067. themselves, or they going to cry out to God to receive everything

1068. that they need and to find hope again and again and again

  1069. through Jesus. Amen.
