Before we begin today's video, I want to share a
-
quick update. YouTube has demonetized this channel, so we now
-
rely completely on your support to make these videos. If
-
you'd like to help us continue spreading the word of God,
-
there is a donation link in the description, God Bless you.
-
You've just sinned again. The exact thing you promised God
-
you would never do is the exact thing you just did.
-
Maybe you lost your temper and cursed at your family.
-
Maybe you lied to protect your reputation, or drank so
-
much that your friends do not even recognize who you
-
are anymore. Whatever it was, the moment the action is over,
-
the voice in your head says that you have finally
-
gone too far. It tells you that your apologies are
-
fake because you keep committing the exact same sin week
-
after week. You feel hopeless because you literally do not
-
know how to break this cycle. You do not know
-
what to do next. Every Christian goes through this exact
-
way struggle. But what you choose to do right now
-
while you are still feeling guilty is incredibly important. You
-
have two choices. You can run away and hide from God,
-
which will only make things worse, or you can choose
-
to turn back to Him and find real healing. You
-
tripped and fell, but you do not have to stay
-
on the ground. Today we are going to look at
-
the exact steps you must take right now to stand
-
back up, break the cycle of sins, and return to
-
God without fear. The second you realize that you just
-
committed another sin, you will feel ashamed. After that, your
-
first instinct is usually to hide. This is not a
-
new reaction. We can look all the way back to
-
the very first time humans sinned, when Adam and Eve
-
broke the only rule God gave them. They ran away
-
from him. They gathered leaves to cover themselves, and they
-
hid among the trees. Then the man and his wife
-
heard the sound of the Lord God as he was
-
walking in the garden in the cool of the day,
-
and they hid from the Lord God among the trees
-
of the garden. We do the exact same thing today.
-
When you sin, you probably stop reading your Bible. You
-
probably avoid praying. You might skip church for a few
-
weeks because you feel too guilty. You hide because you
-
assume God is furious with you. But hiding is the
-
most dangerous thing you can do right now. When you
-
hide in the dark, your shame only grows stronger. Sin
-
is like a mold or a fungus. It thrives in
-
dark and isolated places. The moment you pull away from God,
-
you are stepping away from the only source of light
-
and healing that can actually clean you. God did not
-
scream at Adam and Eve when they hid. He walked
-
into the garden and looked for them. He pursued them.
-
God is pursuing you right now, not to punish you,
-
but to restore you. You must fight the urge to hide.
-
One of the biggest reasons we feel so destroyed after
-
we sin is because we think we shocked God. We
-
think God had very high expectations for our daily behavior
-
and we just let him down completely. We picture God
-
sitting in heaven shaking his head, completely disappointed because he
-
thought we were stronger than this. This is a terrible
-
misunderstanding of who God is and what God knows. God
-
is not surprised by your sin or that you failed.
-
Before you were even born. God knew every single mistake
-
you would ever make. He knew the exact sin you
-
just committed, and He still chose to love you. He
-
still chose to send Jesus to die for you. The
-
Bible tells us that God understands exactly how fragile we are,
-
for he knows how we are formed. He remembers that
-
we are dust. He knows you are a human being
-
living in a broken world with a mortal body that
-
is drawn to temptation. This does not make your sin acceptable,
-
but it means your sin does not change his core
-
view of you. He knows you are completely dependent on
-
his grace. When you realize that God already knows your
-
deepest weaknesses, you can stop pretending to be perfect. You
-
can just admit that you are weak and you need
-
his help. Right now, you are feeling terrible, but it
-
is incredibly important to understand where that feeling is coming from.
-
There are two different voices that will speak to you
-
after you sin. One is the voice of guilt from
-
the enemy. The other is the voice of conviction from
-
the Holy Spirit. If you confuse these two voices, you
-
will stay trapped in a cycle of failure. Guilt is
-
an attack on your identity. Guilt says you are a
-
horrible person. Guilt says you are broken and worthless. Guilt
-
tells you that you are too dirty to talk to God.
-
Guilt points at your past and tells you that your
-
future is ruined. The goal of guilt is to push
-
you further away from God and drive you into deep despair.
-
Guilt makes you want to give up completely. Conviction is
-
entirely different. Conviction is an attack on the action, not
-
your identity. Conviction says what you just did was wrong,
-
but it is not who you are. Conviction points to
-
the cross. Conviction hurts, but it is a good kind
-
of hurt. It is like a doctor setting a broken bone.
-
The pain is there, but the pain brings healing. Conviction
-
draws you toward God. It makes you want to run
-
to Jesus to get the wound clean. If the voice
-
in your head is telling you to hide, to quit,
-
or that you are a fake Christian, that is guilt
-
from the enemy. You must reject it. If the voice
-
in your head is telling you that you messed up,
-
but you need to go to your your Father for forgiveness,
-
that is the Holy Spirit. Follow that voice. It will
-
lead you back home. You are watching this because you
-
feel a deep sense of sorrow over what you did.
-
You hate the fact that you sinned. You might even
-
feel exhausted and entirely frustrated with yourself. You need to
-
know that your frustration is actually a wonderful sign. It
-
is proof that you belong to God. Think about how
-
the human body works. When you catch a virus, your
-
body temperature rises, you get a fever. A fever feels miserable,
-
you sweat, you shiver, and your whole body aches. But
-
a fever means your immune system recognizes the disease and
-
is fighting back. In the spiritual realm, sin is the disease.
-
If you were spiritually dead, you would not care about
-
your sin. People who do not know God can sin
-
all day long and sleep perfectly fine at night. They
-
enjoy it, but you feel sick over it. The Holy
-
Spirit living inside of you is reacting to the sin,
-
causing you to feel spiritual pain. Because you are not
-
designed to live in the dark anymore. Your sorrow over
-
your sin is absolute proof that your spirit is alive.
-
Do not let the enemy convince you that your struggle
-
means you are fake. Your struggle is proof that you
-
are in the family of God. Many of us treat
-
our walk with God like a streak tracking app We
-
think we need to build up a perfect streak of
-
good days. We go three days, five days, maybe two
-
weeks without falling into our specific temptation. We feel strong,
-
We feel like God is finally proud of us. But
-
then a moment of weakness comes and we fall. The
-
streak is broken. The counter resets to zero. When this happens,
-
a very specific lie in our minds. The lie says
-
that because we broke the streak, all of our previous
-
progress is completely destroyed. We feel like we are starting
-
from the very bottom all over again. Because the record
-
is ruined, we often figure we might as well just
-
keep sinning. We give up the fight. This is a
-
terrible deception. God does not measure your spiritual growth by
-
consecutive days of perfection. He measures your growth by the
-
direction of your heart. If a toddler is learning to walk,
-
they will take three steps and then fall down. When
-
they fall, the parents do not look at them and
-
say they have to start learning to walk all over again.
-
The parents celebrate the three steps and then help the
-
child stand back up. The child is still learning to
-
walk even when they fall. Your progress is not erased
-
just because you stumbled. The days you spent seeking God,
-
the moments you said no to temptation. The prayers you prayed,
-
they all matter, They were all real. Do not let
-
one moment of failure convince you that the whole journey
-
is ruined. Get back up. The only way you lose
-
all your progress is if you refuse to stand up again.
-
When we feel terrible about our sin, we often try
-
to create our own punishment. We feel so guilty that
-
we think it is wrong to ask for forgiveness immediately.
-
We decide that we need to feel miserable for at
-
least two or three days. We think we need to
-
prove to God that we are truly sorry by punishing ourselves.
-
We think this is humility. We think this shows God
-
how seriously we take our sin. But this is not
-
humility at all. This is actually a form of spiritual pride.
-
When you punish yourself, you are secretly saying that the
-
sacrifice of Jesus on the cross was not enough to
-
cover this specific sin. You are saying that the blood
-
of Jesus needs a little bit of help from your
-
personal suffering. Feeling bad does not wipe away your mistakes.
-
Only the blood of Jesus can do that. God does
-
not want your self imposed punishment. He wants your heart.
-
When you delay your repentance, you are just wasting time
-
that you could be spending in fellowship with your creator.
-
Do not wait until you feel clean enough to talk
-
to God. You will never be clean enough on your own.
-
You must come to Him while you are still dirty,
-
so that He can be the one to clean you.
-
Your reaction to your own sin is deeply connected to
-
how you picture God in your mind. Close your eyes
-
and think about where God is sitting right now. Many
-
people usually imagine God sitting on a giant throne in heaven,
-
surrounded by blinding golden lights. In this picture, God is
-
a distant and strict king. He is looking down at
-
you from high above with a stern expression. He is
-
examining your record and looking at every single mistake you
-
just made. If this is how you see God, your
-
response to sin will be pure fear. You will act
-
like a terrified servant. You will try to hide from
-
his holy light. You will try to argue that your
-
actions were not that bad. You will beg him not
-
to punish you, and you will live in constant fear
-
of being struck down. But the Bible offers a very
-
different picture for those who have put their faith in Jesus.
-
Because Jesus took the punishment for our sins, we are
-
no longer just servants standing far away from a terrifying throne.
-
We have been brought into the family. You need to
-
stop picturing a distant throne in the clouds and start
-
picturing a living room. Picture God sitting on a comfortable couch.
-
There is an empty space right next to him. He
-
is your father. He is waiting for you to come
-
sit with him when you sin. You are not a
-
worthless servant breaking the rules of a strict kid. You
-
are a child who has made a mistake and hurt
-
your father. A child does not bow down in terror
-
to a distant ruler. A child simply walks up with
-
tears in their eyes and says they are sorry. The
-
father does not point a heavy golden staff at you
-
in anger. The father simply opens his arms. Shift your
-
mindset from the distant throne to the living room. It
-
changes how you approach God completely. There is a beautiful
-
moment in the Bible that perfectly explains what happens when
-
a believer sins. It happened right before Jesus went to
-
the cross. He was having a final meal with his
-
closest friends. During the meal, Jesus took a towel and
-
a bowl of water, and he began to wash the
-
feet of his disciples. When he got to Peter, Peter
-
was shocked. Peter did not want Jesus acting like a servant.
-
Peter told Jesus that he would never wash his feet.
-
Jesus told Peter that if he did not wash him,
-
Peter could not have a part with him. So Peter,
-
always acting extreme, told Jesus to wash his hands and
-
his head as well. Peter wanted a whole bath, but
-
Jesus gave a very profound answer. Those who have had
-
a bath need only to wash their feet. Their whole
-
body is clean, and you are clean, though not every
-
one of you. In those days, people wore open sandals
-
and walked on very dusty dirt roads. When they went
-
to a feast. They had already bathed their whole bodies
-
at home. They were completely clean, but the walk to
-
the house made their feet dirty. They did not need
-
to take a whole new bath, they just needed the
-
dust wiped off their feet. Quick update. I've removed older
-
videos from YouTube because of the demonetization situation. But I
-
know you guys don't want those contents to disappear completely,
-
so I'll be uploading those old videos to Patreon completely free,
-
so you can still listen to them any time. Thank
-
you for being here and for supporting the channel. The
-
Patreon link is below. When you gave your life to Jesus,
-
you are given of full spiritual bath. Your past, present,
-
in future sins were washed away by his grace. You
-
were made completely clean in the eyes of God. When
-
you fall into sin, you do not lose your salvation.
-
You do not need to be saved all over again.
-
You just need to sit down, look at Jesus and
-
let him wash your feet. He is more than willing
-
to do it. Right after we fail, our emotions run
-
very high. We feel so guilty that we want to
-
prove to God that we are serious about changing. So
-
we drop to our knees and we make grand promises.
-
We say things like Lord, I promise I will never
-
do this again. I swear I am done with this forever.
-
I will read my Bible every single day for three hours.
-
I will never look at that thing again. These promises
-
feel good in the moment, they give us a false
-
sense of control. But they are incredibly dangerous. Why because
-
you are making promises that rely entirely on your own
-
human strength. You are telling God that your willpower is
-
strong enough to defeat sin. But if your willpower was
-
strong enough, you would not have sinned in the first place.
-
When you make these grand promises and then break them
-
three days later, your guilt doubles. You feel like a liar.
-
You feel completely defeated. Instead of making impossible promises about
-
the rest of your life, you need to be honest
-
about your weakness. Stop promising God what you will do.
-
Start asking God for what you need. Instead of saying
-
I will never do this again, try praying like this. Lord,
-
I am completely weak. I do not have the strength
-
to fight this on my own. If you do not
-
help me, I will fall again tomorrow. I need your grace.
-
I surrender my will power to you. Please give me
-
the strength just for today to honor you. Jesus taught
-
us to pray for our daily bread. He wants us
-
to rely on him day by day, moment by moment.
-
Stop trying to secure the next ten years of your
-
life with a dramatic promise. Just focus on trusting Him. Today.
-
We have talked a lot about the mindset you need
-
to have, But what should you actually do in the
-
exact moment after you fail. The very first moments are crucial.
-
The enemy wants you to sit in silence and drown
-
in your shame. You need to take immediate action to
-
break that heavy atmosphere. First, speak out loud. The enemy
-
operates in the silent spaces of your mind. When you
-
speak out loud, you break the silence. You do not
-
need a fancy prayer. Just say it with your own voice.
-
Say Lord, I messed up. I sinned, but I know
-
you love me, and I ask for your forgiveness. Hearing
-
your own voice declare your need for God brings the
-
struggle into the physical world. Second, change your physical location.
-
If you sinned in your bedroom, get out of your bedroom.
-
When you stay in the exact location of your failure,
-
the temptation and the shame linger in the air. Moving
-
your physical body helps reset your mind. Go walk around
-
the block, look at the sky. Remind yourself that the
-
world is big and God is even bigger. Third, do
-
not dwell on the details of the sin. Our minds
-
naturally want to replay the failure over and over again,
-
we analyze it, we wonder why we did it. But
-
focusing on the sin just keeps your mind trapped in
-
the gutter. You must force your mind to look at
-
something else. Open a Bible app and read a psalm
-
out loud. Put on an audio Bible and just listen
-
to the words. You must replace the dark thoughts with
-
the light of truth immediately. If you can win the
-
next five minutes after a failure, you will stop a
-
spiral of depression from taking over your day. There is
-
a very common trap that people fall into right after
-
they mess up. It is the trap of spiraling downwards.
-
It happens because we feel so bad about the first
-
mistake that we figure the entire day is ruined. We
-
say to ourselves, well, I already broke my promise, I
-
already messed up. I might as well keep going and
-
start over tomorrow. The enemy loves this logic. He loves
-
to convince you that since you tripped, you might as
-
well throw yourself completely down the stairs. But think about
-
how ridiculous this is in any other area of life.
-
If youp your phone and it gets a small scratch
-
on the screen, you do not take a hammer and
-
smash the entire phone into pieces. You pick it up,
-
and you are more careful next time. If you get
-
a flat tire on your car, you do not get
-
out and slash the other three tires. You fix the
-
flat tire and keep driving. Do not let one moment
-
of weakness become an excuse for rebellion. The first sin
-
might have been a moment of weakness. The second sin
-
is a calculated choice. Stop the bleeding immediately. It does
-
not matter if it is the middle of the day.
-
You do not have to wait for the sun to
-
come up tomorrow to start fresh. The mercy of God
-
is available right now, at this exact second. You can
-
draw a line in the sand right where you are
-
and refuse to take another step in the wrong direction.
-
One of the main reasons we keep falling into the
-
same sins over and over again is because we try
-
to fight them in secret. We are terrified of what
-
people would think if they actually knew our struggles. We
-
want everyone at church to think we have our lives
-
perfectly put together, so we keep our failures locked inside
-
a dark room in our hearts. But as we discussed earlier,
-
sin loves the dark. When you fight a secret battle,
-
the enemy has the upper hand. He can isolate you,
-
he can whisper lies to you. And because you are alone,
-
there is no one there to tell you the truth.
-
God designed us to need each other. He designed the
-
church to be a place of healing, not a museum
-
for perfect people. The Bible gives us a very clear
-
instruction about how to find true healing. Therefore, confess your
-
sins to each other and pray for each other so
-
that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous
-
person is powerful and effective. Notice that it says we
-
confess to God to be forgiven, but we confess to
-
each other to be healed. There is a profound psychological
-
and spiritual release that happens when you look another human
-
being in the eye and admit your struggle. The secret
-
loses its power over you. You do not need to
-
stand on a stage with a microphone and tell the
-
whole world, But you do need one person, someone who
-
will not judge you, but will not let you stay
-
comfortable in your sin either. Reach out to them. Send
-
a text message right now that simply says I am
-
struggling with something and I need help. That one small
-
step of courage can break the chains that have held
-
you for years. If you want to stop repeating the
-
same mistakes, you have to be honest about how you
-
are getting into these situations. Nobody falls into a hole
-
by accident every single day. Eventually you have to realize
-
that you keep walking down the street where the hole is.
-
You need to look closely at your environment what leads
-
to your failure. Temptation usually follows a predictable pattern. It
-
is rarely random. It happens when you are too tired,
-
too lonely, or too stressed. It happens when you have
-
your phone in your room late at night. It happens
-
when you hang around certain people who pull you down.
-
If you truly want to honor God, you must be
-
willing to make uncomfortable changes to your environment. You cannot
-
pray for God to deliver you from temptation while you
-
are actively walking into the places where you know temptation lives.
-
If you struggle with eating too much junk food, you
-
do not leave cake sitting on your kitchen counter. You
-
throw it away. If you struggle with things on your
-
digital devices, you need to put harsh limits on them.
-
This is not a lack of faith, This is wisdom.
-
The Bible tells us to flee from youthful passions. Flea
-
means to run away quickly. It does not mean to
-
stand there and see how strong you are. Recognize the
-
patterns that lead to your failure. Cut off the sauce
-
before the temptation even has a chance to grow. Make
-
it incredibly difficult for yourself to commit the sin. Guard
-
your heart by guarding your environment. Many people approach fighting
-
sin with the wrong strategy. They use the strategy of subtraction.
-
They try to completely remove the bad habit from their lives,
-
leaving a giant empty hole in their daily routine. They
-
sit on the couch, staring at the wall, gripping their
-
hands together, just trying as hard as they can not
-
to do the bad thing. This strategy always fails, because
-
if you empty a space in your life, something else
-
will naturally rush in to fill it. If you do
-
not fill it with something good, the old bad habit
-
will come rushing right back, often stronger than before. You
-
cannot defeat darkness by fighting the dark. You can punch
-
the air in a dark room all day long and
-
it will still be dark. The only way to remove
-
darkness is to turn on a light. You must use
-
the strategy of addition. Do not just focus on stopping
-
the bad behavior, focus on starting new, healthy, spiritual behaviors.
-
You have to crowd the sin out of your life.
-
If you spend time reading the Word, if you spend
-
time serving other people, if you fill your ears with
-
good teaching and worship, your heart begins to change. The
-
more you taste the goodness of God, the less the
-
garbage of the world appeals to you. When you fall
-
in love with Jesus on a deeper level, the things
-
that used to tempt you start to look cheap and pathetic.
-
You do not stop sinning just because you hate the sin.
-
You stop sinning because you have found something vastly superior.
-
Focus your energy on knowing God more, and the desire
-
for sin will naturally begin to starve to death. If
-
you still feel hesitant to go back to God right now,
-
you need to hear the story Jesus told about a
-
young man who ruined his life. It is the story
-
of the prodigal son. This young man went to his father,
-
demanded his inheritance early, and left home. He traveled to
-
a distant country and wasted all the money on wild living.
-
He sinned deeply. He rebelled completely. He eventually ran out
-
of money and found himself feeding pigs, wishing he could
-
eat the garbage the pigs were eating. In that moment
-
of absolute rock bottom, he realized his mistake. He decided
-
to go back home, but he did not expect to
-
be treated like a son. He rehearsed a whole speech
-
he planned to beg his father to just let him
-
be a hired servant. He felt too unworthy to be
-
called a son again. He started the long walk home,
-
completely covered in dirt and smelling like pigs. But while
-
he was still a long way off, his father saw
-
him and was filled with compassion for him. He ran
-
to his son, threw his arms around him, and kissed him.
-
Notice what happens here. The father saw him from a distance.
-
That means the father had been watching the horizon every
-
single day hoping his son would return, and when he
-
saw him, he ran. In that culture, older men did
-
not run. It was considered undignified, But love does not
-
care about dignity. The father ran, threw his arms around
-
a boy who smelled like pig garbage, and kissed him.
-
The boy tried to give his rehearsed apology speech, but
-
the father interrupted him. The father immediately called for the
-
best robe, a ring for his finger, and sandals for
-
his feet. He threw a massive party because his child
-
was home. This is exactly how God feels about you
-
right now. You might feel dirty, You might have a
-
speech prepared about how unworthy you are. But God is
-
watching the horizon. He is ready to run to you.
-
He wants to wrap his arms around you and put
-
a robe of righteousness on your shoulders. He is not
-
disgusted by you. He is thrilled that you are looking
-
back toward home. When you fail, the enemy will tell
-
you that your usefulness in the Kingdom of God is
-
officially over. The enemy says that God only uses perfect
-
people with spotless records. He will tell you that you
-
should just sit quietly in the back row for the
-
rest of your life because you have messed up too
-
many times. If you read the Bible, you will quickly
-
discover that this is a total lie. The Bible is
-
filled with broken people that God restored and used to
-
change the world. Look at David. David was a man
-
after God's own heart, but he committed adultery and arranged
-
a murder to cover it up. It was a massive,
-
devastating failure, but David repented deeply. God forgave him, and
-
David went on to write many of the psalms we
-
still sing today. Look at Peter on the night Jesus
-
needed him most, Peter denied, even knowing Jesus. He did
-
it three times. He swore curses and said he had
-
no idea who Jesus was. When the rooster crowed, Peter
-
wept bitterly. He felt like an absolute failure. But after
-
Jesus rose from the dead, he made a special point
-
to restore Peter. Jesus did not fire Peter. He reinstated him.
-
Just a few weeks later, Peter stood up and preached
-
a sermon where thousands of people gave their lives to God.
-
God is an expert at bringing beauty out of ashes.
-
He specializes in taking broken things and making them strong.
-
Your failure does not disqualify you from the love of God,
-
and it does not disqualify you from the purpose God
-
has for your life. In fact, your struggle can become
-
the very thing that helps you connect with other broken people.
-
Once you received the grace of God for your own mess,
-
you become a perfect ambassador to share that grace with
-
others who are hurting. Your story is far from over.
-
God is just starting a new chapter. You have a
-
choice to make right now. You can accept your fate
-
as it is and walk back into the darkness. You
-
can listen to the voice of guilt and isolate yourself
-
from the only true source of hope. Or you can
-
acknowledge your weakness and agree with the conviction of the
-
Holy Spirit. You can choose to believe that the blood
-
of Jesus is infinitely more powerful than the sin you
-
just committed. Do not wait for tomorrow. Do not wait
-
until you feel better. Come to God exactly as you
-
are right now. Speak out loud, tell him you are sorry,
-
Let him wash your feet, Reach out to a friend
-
and bring your struggle into the light. Throw away the
-
impossible promises, and just ask for the strength to honor him. Today.
-
You are entirely loved. You are completely known. The God
-
of the universe sees every floor, every failure, and every
-
hidden wound in your heart, and he says that you
-
are his child. Stand back up. The path ahead is
-
clear and you do not have to walk it alone.
-
Your father is running down the driveway to meet you.
-
Let him hold you, and let us start walking forward
-
again together. If this message encouraged your heart to day
-
and you would like to help us with the work
-
behind these videos, you can find a link in the
-
description and in the pinned comment below. Your support helps
-
us keep making more videos like this and sharing the
-
truth of the Word of God with people who need
-
it most. We want to reach as many people as
-
possible with this message of hope, and your help makes
-
that happen.
