Why is John fourteen the most beautiful message from Jesus

because of exactly when it was spoken. Jesus spoke these

words in a dark room, just hours before he would

be arrested and crucified. The disciples sitting around him were terrified.

Their hearts were breaking because Jesus had just told them

he was leaving. They had no idea how they would

survive without him. In the middle of their absolute panic,

Jesus did not focus on his own coming pain. He

looked at his frightened friends and gave them a permanent

guide for the hardest moments of human life. Do not

let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God, believe

also in me. Jesus does not say that trouble will

not come. He does not promise that the storm will

avoid their house. He is hours away from being arrested, beaten,

and crucified. The trouble is absolutely coming. The world is

about to go mad. But Jesus makes a brilliant distinction

between the trouble outside of you and the trouble inside

of you. He says, do not let your hearts be troubled.

That implies you have a choice. It implies that your

heart has a door, and you are the one who

decides what gets to come inside and sit down. Trouble, fear,

and anxiety will constantly knock on the door of your mind.

They will shout from the outside, they will demand your attention.

But Jesus is telling you that you do not have

to open the door and invite them into the living

room of your heart. You do not have to offer

anxiety a cup of tea and let it take our

permanent residence in your soul. We often think that peace

means living in a place where nothing goes wrong. We

think if we just had enough money, if everyone liked us,

if our health was perfect, then our hearts would not

be troubled. But human experience tells us that is a lie.

You can put a person in a mansion with millions

of dollars and perfect physical health, and they can still

have a heart that is completely tormented by anxiety and depression. Conversely,

you can find people in the darkest prisons, facing the

most extreme hardships who possess a deep, unbreakable joy. Why

because the condition of your heart is not dictated by

the condition of your environment. Jesus is calling his disciples,

and he is calling you to guard the inner sanctuary

of your soul. How do you do that? How do

you actually stop your heart from being troubled when your

circumstances are terrifying. Jesus gives the answer in the second

half of the sentence. You believe in God, believe also

in Me. The way to stop your heart from being

troubled is to focus completely on trusting Jesus. He is saying,

look away from your problems and look at Him instead.

You cannot control the betrayal that is coming. You cannot

control the Roman soldiers. You cannot control the shifting economy

or the opinions of other people. But you can control

where you place your trust. When you actively place your

trust in Jesus, you are building a fortress around your heart.

You are acknowledging that He is bigger than the crisis

you are facing. You are remembering that he holds the

entire universe together, which means he is perfectly capable of

holding your life together. After telling them to guard their hearts,

Jesus addresses their deepest insecurity. They are losing their physical

connection to him, and they feel like they are about

to become spiritual, homeless wanderers. So Jesus lifts their vision

from the temporary struggles of earth to the eternal realities

of heaven. My Father's house has many rooms. If that

were not so, would I have told you that I

am going there to prepare a place for you. Every

human being on Earth carries a deep, aching desire for

a true home. We spend our entire lives trying to

create safe spaces. We buy houses, we decorate rooms, we

build fences, we seek out communities, all in a desperate

attempt to feel like we belong somewhere. But deep down,

we all know that every earthly home is temporary. Roofs

leak wood rots, neighborhoods change, people move away, loved ones

pass on. No matter how beautiful your house is, it

will eventually fade. We all feel a constant sadness because

we long for a perfect home that we have never

been to. Jesus speaks directly to that homesickness. He tells

his disciples that this broken world is not the end

of the story. There is a father's house. It has

many rooms, There is unlimited provision, there is an abundance

of grace. But the most beautiful part of this promise

is not just the location. It is the architect. Jesus says,

he is going there to prepare a place for you.

Jesus spent his earthly life working as a carpenter. He

knew how to build things. He knew how to shape

wood and construct a house. But now the divine carpenter

is using his resurrection power to build an eternal dwelling place,

and he is preparing it specifically for you. Heaven is

a deeply person destination. The Savior who knows the exact

number of hairs on your head, the Savior who knows

every tear you have ever cried, is the one preparing

your room. He knows exactly what will bring you perfect,

unending joy. When you understand that a prepared place is

waiting for you, it completely changes how you view your

current struggles. If you know you are traveling to a

beautiful resort, you do not get overly upset. If the

hotel on the way there has a lumpy bed or

bad service, you know it is just a temporary stop.

This earth is just a temporary stop. Your pain, grief,

and struggles are not permanent. You are just passing through.

And Jesus goes even further to secure their hope. And

if I go and prepare a place for you, I

will come back and take you to be with me,

that you also may be where I am. Jesus does

not send an angel to get you. He does not

give you a map and wish you good luck on

the journey. He says he will come back for you himself.

The ultimate goal of heaven is not golden streets or

pearly gates. The ultimate goal of heaven is proximity to Jesus,

that you may be where I am. Heaven is heaven

because Jesus is there, and he loves you so deeply

that he refuses to spend eternity without you. He will

personally ensure that you make it safely to the home

he has built for you. As Jesus talks about going away,

the disciples are still struggling to understand the spiritual reality

of his words. They are thinking in purely physical terms. Thomas,

who always wants to see the practical details, finally speaks up.

He is frustrated and confused. He says, Lord, we do

not know where you are going, so how can we

know the way? Thomas is asking the question that every

single human being asks at some point in their life.

How do I know I am doing this right? Which

path am I supposed to take? We all want an

exact map of the future so we can avoid all

the pitfalls. But Jesus does not give Thomas a map.

He gives him a person. Jesus answered, I am the Way,

and the Truth and the life. No one comes to

the Father except through me. First, he says, I am

the way. He does not say he will simply point

you in the right direction. He says, he is the direction.

When you are lost in a deep forest, you do

not need a map you cannot read. You need a

guide who knows the forest. Jesus says, take my hand.

If you have me, you have the way. You do

not need to know what happens ten years from now.

You just need to take the next step with the

person who holds the future. When life, life feels like

a maze and you have no idea what decision to make.

You do not need more information, You need closer proximity

to Jesus. Second, he says, I am the Truth. We

live in an age where people claim that truth is relative.

People say you can have your truth and I can

have my truth. But a world where everyone makes up

their own truth is a world of chaos. It leads

to anxiety, division, and despair. Jesus cuts through all the

lies of modern culture and the lies of the enemy.

He is the ultimate reality. When your own mind lies

to you and tells you that you are worthless, the

Truth stands up and says you are deeply loved. When

the world tells you that your value is based on

your wealth or your looks, the Truth says your value

is based on his blood poured out for you. Third,

he says, I am the Life. He is not just

talking about surviving. Most people in the world are just surviving.

They are existing. They wake up, go to work, come home,

stare at a screen, and go to sleep. They feel

dead inside. Jesus offers an abundant, overflowing, eternal life that

begins the moment you believe he is the source of

all vitality, all joy, and all purpose. Every attempt to

find life outside of Jesus will ultimately leave you feeling empty, exhausted,

and disappointed. And then he makes the exclusive claim that

offends the proud but saves the humble. No one comes

to the Father except through me. This is not Jesus

being narrow minded. This is Jesus being the only medicine

that actually cures the disease of sin. If you are

drowning in the middle of the ocean and a rescue

helicopter drops down a single rope, you do not complain

that there is only one rope. You grab it with

immense gratitude. Jesus is the rescue rope. He is the

only bridge across the infinite gap between a holy God

disciple speaks up. Philip is listening and his heart is

burning with a deep spiritual hunger. He says, Lord, show

us the Father and that will be enough for us.

Philip is verbalizing the deepest cry of the human soul.

We all want to know what God is really like.

We all want to see the face of the Creator.

But the problem is that human beings have a terrible

habit of creating a distory did image of God. We

project the flaws of our earthly authorities onto our heavenly Father.

If your earthly father was angry and unpredictable, you probably

view God as a short tempered boss who is waiting

for you to make a mistake so he can punish you.

If your earthly father was distant and absent, you probably

view God as a detached clockmaker who wound up the

universe and then walked away, completely uninterested in your daily struggles.

If your earthly father was overly demanding, you probably think

you have to perform perfectly and exhaust yourself just to

earn a tiny drop of God's approval. These false images

of God create a toxic, fear driven religion. But Jesus

completely shatters these false images with his response, anyone who

has seen Me has seen the Father. This changes, absencesolutely

everything Jesus is saying. If you want to know exactly

how God thinks, how God acts, and how God feels

about you. You just have to look at me. Jesus

is the perfect, flawless, visible representation of the invisible God.

There is no hidden, angry God operating behind the back

of Jesus. They have the exact same heart. Look at

how Jesus lived his life. When lepers approached him, people

who were contagious, outcast, and considered dirty by society, Jesus

did not run away. He reached out his hand and

touched them. That means God is a god who reaches

into your mess and touches your dirtiness with his healing grace.

When the woman was caught in adultery and the religious

leaders wanted to crush her with stones, Jesus stooped down,

protected her and offered her a brand new start. That

means God is a god of incredible mercy who defends

the broken and offers second chances to those who have

failed miserably. When Jesus stood outside the tomb of his

friend Lazarus, even though he knew he was about to

raise him from the dead, Jesus wept. He cried real tears.

That means God is not an emotionless robot in the sky.

He is a father who is deeply moved by your pain.

When your heart is breaking, God is weeping with you.

Jesus did not come to protect us from an angry father.

Jesus came to reveal a loving father. If you ever

doubt whether God loves you, if you ever wonder if

God cares about your specific pain, you do not need

to look for a sign in the sky. You just

need to look at Jesus. When you look at the cross,

you see exactly how far the Father is willing to

go to rescue you. As Jesus continues to comfort his disciples,

he transitions from telling them who he is to telling

them what they are going to do. He is about

to give them a promotion. He is not just leaving

them behind as helpless victims. He is empowering them to

carry on his mission. Very truly, I tell you, whoever

believes in me will do the works I have been doing,

and they will do even greater things than these, because

I am going to the Father. This statement must have

made the disciples gasp greater things. How could anyone possibly

do greater things than Jesus. Jesus had healed the blind,

made the deaf here, and raised the dead what could

possibly be greater than that. Jesus is not talking about

doing works that are more spectacular or more magical. He

is talking about the scope and the reach of the works.

While Jesus was on earth, he was limited to a

physical human body. He could only be in one town

at a time, he could only speak to the people

right in front of him. But because he was going

to the Father, he was going to send the Holy

Spirit to live inside of every single believer. Instead of

one Jesus walking around the Middle East, there would be

millions of believers walking around the entire globe, carrying the

exact same spirit, preaching the exact same gospel, and bringing

the exact same healing to a broken world. This is

the miracle of spiritual multiplication. When you share the love

of Christ with a coworker, when you pray for a

sick friend and see them recover, when you forgive someone

who deeply hurt you, you are participating in these greater works.

You are the hands and feet of Jesus moving through

your city, your neighborhood, and your family. He has trusted

you with his mission. You are not useless, You are

not without a purpose. You are a vessel for the

greatest rescue operation in the history of the universe. And

Jesus gives them the key to accomplish these works. And

I will do whatever you ask in my name so

that the Father may be glorified in the sun. This

is one of the most misunderstood promises in the Bible.

Many people treat the phrase in my name like a

magic spell. They think if they just add those words

onto the end of a selfish prayer, God is obligated

to give them a sports car, a bigger house, or

an easy life. But that is not what praying in

his name means at all. In the ancient world, a

name represented the character, the authority, and the business of

the person. To ask in the name of Jesus means

to ask as his official representative. Imagine a bank teller

receiving a check signed by a billionaire. The teller does

not give the money because the person holding the check

is rich. The teller gives the money because the signature

on the bottom carries authority. When you pray in the

name of Jesus, you are praying for things that Jesus wants.

You are praying for salvation, for healing, for justice, for peace,

for strength to endure trials and for the Kingdom of

God to advance. When your desires align with His desires,

your prayers become incredibly powerful. Heaven opens its storehouses when

a believer prays with the pure motive of seeing the

Father glorified. The disciples are absorbing all this incredible information,

but the underlying sadness is still there. Jesus is leaving.

They are going to miss his voice. They are going

to miss the way he made them feel perfectly safe.

Jesus knows exactly how they feel. He knows the human

heart better than anyone else. He knows that the greatest

terror of the human experience is the fear of being abandoned.

So he makes a promise that changes the trajectory of

human history. I will not leave you as orphans. I

will come to you. An orphan is someone who has

been left behind. An orphan is someone who has to

fight for their own survival, who has to figure out

life entirely on their own, who has no one to

protect them, no one to provide for them, and no

one to whisper to them in the dark that everything

is going to be okay. There are many people to

day who have living parents, but still walk through life

with an orphan spirit. They feel completely alone in the crowds.

They feel like nobody truly sees them. They feel like

they have to strive and perform just to earn a

tiny scrap of affection. They live with a constant, low

level anxiety because they believe they are entirely on their own.

Jesus looks at his followers and guarantees them that they

will never ever experience spiritual abandonment. And I will ask

the Father and he will give you another advocate to

help you and be with you forever. The word advocate

here is an incredible word. Some translations call it the helper,

the comforter, or the counselor. In the original Greek language,

it literally means someone who is called to stand alongside you.

Jesus is talking about the Holy Spirit. Notice what Jesus

says about the Holy Spirit. He says, the Father will

give you another advocate. The word another means someone exactly

like the first one. Jesus is saying, the Holy Spirit

is going to be to you exactly what I have

been to you for the last three years. But it

is even better because Jesus was with them physically, but

the Holy Spirit will be in them spiritually. And the

greatest part of this promise is the timeline. Jesus says.

The Holy Spirit will be with you forever. He is

a permanent resident in your soul. When you do not

know how to pray, the Holy Spirit prays for you.

When you are studying the Bible and suddenly a verse

makes perfect sense, that is the Holy Spirit teaching you.

When you are about to make a foolish decision and

you feel a sudden check in your gut, that is

the Holy Spirit guiding you. When you are crying in

your bed at two in the morning and a sudden,

warm presence wraps around your mind, that is the Holy

Spirit comforting you. You are never alone. You are never

walking into a boardroom alone. You are never walking into

a hospital alone. You are never walking through a valley

of grief alone. The very spirit of the Living God

has made a permanent home inside of you. The orphan

spirit is completely broken by the reality of the Holy Spirit.

You are a fully adopted, deeply loved, eternally protected child

of God. As Jesus brings this beautiful message toward its conclusion,

he offers them a gift. It is a parting gift,

a legacy left for those who love him. Peace I

leave with you my peace I give you. I do

not give to you as the world gives. Do not

let your hearts be troubled, and do not be afraid.

Everybody in the world wants peace. We spend billions of

dollars on vacations, therapies, medications, and entertainment, all trying to

find a few moments of peace. But Jesus points out

a massive difference between the peace the world offers and

the peace He provides. The peace of the world is circumstantial.

It is completely dependent on external factors. The world says,

you can have peace if your bank account is full,

if your relationships are thriving, if the political climate is stable,

and if your physical health is excellent. Worldly peace is

like building a house of cards. It takes a massive

amount of effort to set up, and it looks nice

for a moment, But the second a slight breeze of

trouble blows through the room, the entire structure collapses. The

moment you get a bad diagnosis, the peace is gone.

The moment someone criticizes you, the peace vanishes. Jesus says,

I do not give to you as the world gives.

Jesus offers a peace that is completely independent of circumstances.

It is a supernatural peace. It defies all human logic.

It is the kind of peace that allows a person

to stand at the grave of a loved one and

still feel a deep sense of hope. It is the

kind of peace that allows a person to lose their

job and still know that their provider is going to

take care of them. It is the kind of peace

that allows a person to be persecuted and still pray

for the people attacking them. How is this possible? Because

the peace of Jesus is not an emotion. The piece

of Jesus is a person, My piece I give you.

He is giving us his own personal peace. Think about

the piece Jesus had. He could sleep on a cushion

in the bottom of a boat while a massive hurricane

was trying to sink the ship. The disciples were screaming

in panic, but Jesus was resting in perfect peace. Why

because he knew the Father was completely in control. When

you receive the peace of Jesus, you are receiving an

internal anchor. Imagine a ship on the open ocean. During

a massive storm, the surface of the water is violent.

There are massive waves, howling winds, and crashing thunder. If

you only look at the surface, everything is chaotic. But

if you dive down one hundred feet below the surface,

the water is perfectly still. The fish are swimming quietly.

The storm norm on the surface has absolutely no effect

on the deep water. That is what the peace of

Jesus does for your soul. Your surface life might be chaotic,

people might be yelling, bills might be piling up, health

issues might be raging. But deep down in your spirit,

where the Holy Spirit resides, there is a profound, undisturbed quietness.

You know that you are loved. You know that your

sins are completely forgiven. You know that your eternal future

is secured in a prepared place, and no temporary storm

on earth can touch the deep waters of your salvation

because He has given them this incredible gift. He repeats

his opening command, do not let your hearts be troubled,

and do not be afraid. You now have the tools

to fight the fear. You have the promise of Heaven.

You have the way, the truth, and the life. You

have the exact image of the Father. You have the

authority of his name, you have the permanent presence of

the Holy Spirit, and you have his supernatural peace. Fear

has no legal right to dictate your life anymore. Jesus

has finished speaking these profound words. He has completely rebuilt

the shattered hearts of his disciples. He has given them

everything they need to endure the darkest weekend in human history.

And then he says something very practical but incredibly profound.

Come now, let us leave. This is the perfect conclusion

to the most beautiful message ever spoken. Jesus does not

tell them to stay hidden in the upper room. He

does not say sit here in safety and wait for

everything to blow over. He stands up, He looks at

the door, and he invites them to walk out into

the night. Outside that door, Judas is making a deal

with the guards, while religious leaders prepare a false trial.

The path of suffering awaits, leading to the garden of Gethsemone,

the cross, and the grave. Jesus knows exactly what is

waiting in the dark, but he is not hiding. He

is moving forward with total resolve, total obedience to the Father,

and total love for you. And he invites the disciples

to stand up and walk with him. Come now, let

us leave. This is the call of authentic Christianity. We

are not supposed to take the beautiful promises of John

fourteen and use them to build a comfortable bubble where

we hide from the brokenness of the world. We are

supposed to take the peace, the power, and the presence

of the Holy Spirit and carry them directly into the

dark places of society. You might be facing a very

difficult situation tomorrow. You might have to walk into an

office where people are hostile. You might have to walk

into a court room or a difficult famly conversation. Jesus

is saying, do not hide, do not cower in fear,

Stand up, let us go together. You are not walking

into your battles alone. The Way, the truth and the

Life is walking right beside you. The Holy Spirit is

dwelling right inside you. The Father in Heaven is smiling

down upon you. You are completely equipped. John fourteen is

the ultimate blueprint for a broken heart. It is a

brilliant exchange where Jesus takes our deepest human frailties and

trades them for his divine strengths. We bring him our

troubled hearts, confusion and distorted views of God, and in

exchange he gives us an eternal home, the Way, and

a clear vision of the Father. He takes our weakness

and loneliness, replacing them with the authority to do greater

works and the gift of His permanent presence. Finally, he

calms our anxiety by offering a peace that goes far

beyond human understanding. As you go forward to day, let

these words echo in the deep chambers of your soul.

You are not an orphan, You are not a mistake.

You are not forgotten. You are deeply, wildly and eternally

loved by the creator of the universe. The place is prepared,

the spirit is present, the peace is yours. Do not

let your heart be troubled. Stand up, take a deep breath,

and step forward into your life. The King of Kings

is walking right there beside you, and he will never
