Good evening, friends, and welcome again to the Prophecy Countdown program.

This is our final bonus program. If you've been part

of the series. For the past few nights, we've been

looking at some very important Bible truths. But tonight Passadeg

is going to share some powerful truths from a historical event,

and our title for us study this evening is the

Unsinkable Ship. But before we get there, I want to

tell you about our free download. It is one of

Dear Father, we are so grateful for your word. We

are thankful for the good news of salvation that he's

found in Jesus. And tonight, Lord, as we look at

some important lessons that we can learn from history and

from your word, we do pray that you would guide

and impress upon our hearts the things you'd have us

to know. For we asked us in Jesus' name, Amen,

I'd like to invite pass A Doug to come forward

and he'll be sharing with us this evening, the unsinkable ship.

Let's give him a warm welcome for the last time here.

Bang passed for Ross and welcome friends. Once again. We're

just so thankful that you're each here. And we're going

to be talking about something that is a little different

from the theme of Bible prophecy we've been covering during

this week with the Prophecy Countdown series. This is more

an inspirational message and it's something really that is it's

personal to me, but I'll try and be relating it

to spiritual themes in the Bible. You know, the Bible

is filled with stories of storms at sea. Noah would

be a fine example of that. You've got the experience

of Jesus a couple of times storms at sea. If

you know the Bible and the Book of Acts, it

ends with a storm at sea and a shipwreck. And

I've grown up around the water. My dad lived in

Miami Beach. I lived on a boat in the Mediterranean,

briefly lived on a boat in the Caribbean, and a

month and I a month ago, Karen and I were

going to church in Indonesia and we had to ride

across the open sea for about an hour to get

this church on island. And there were no life jackets

on that boat. And so but we enjoy and we

were both are certified scuba diving. We enjoy the sea.

And I've always been intrigued by the story of the Titanic.

Hence this message called the Unsinkable Ship. Now, I like

to begin with an amazing fact, and I think you'll

find this amazing. I don't think I'm surprising anybody, or

this would be a spoiler if I tell you that

the Titanic is the story of a ship on its

maiden voyage back in April twelfth, April fourteenth, nineteen twelve,

at fourth day into its maiden voyage, this eleven story

vessel sank in thirteen thousand feet of water with all

these millionaires on board, and it just stunned the world,

as many had advertised it as unseeable. Did you know

that there was a seaman by the name of Morgan

Robinson and he wrote a book where it was actually Robertson.

He wrote a book called the Titan and the book

he wrote about the Titan was very similar, except instead

of the boat going from England to New York, it

was going from New York to England. And in the

story of the wreck of the Titan, it's a fictional

story about a passenger liner that sank while carrying the

elite people of the time. In his story the book,

it says that even though the events are fictitious, they

have an amazing parallel with the Titanic. Here's a few examples.

You've got, of course, the name of the boat is

called the Titan, and then you've got the Titanic. The

length of the Titan that sinks on its maiden voyage

is eight hundred feet. The Titanic was eight hundred and

eighty two feet. The Titan was ninety feet wide. The

Titanic was ninety two feet wide. It had triple props

like the Titanic that could go twenty five knots. Titanic

could actually only go twenty three knots. It had nineteen

water tight compartments, deeming it unsinkable. The Titanic at sixteen

it had a capacity of three thousand tons. Titanic had

three thousand, two hundred and fifty. There were two thousand

people aboard Titanic at two thousand, two hundred and twenty eight,

but they didn't have enough lifeboats. On the titan they

only had twenty four. Titanic had twenty. Both ships were

encouraged to break speed records during their voyage across the Atlantic.

Both ships sank after striking a pyramid shaped iceberg that

had just turned over, about four hundred miles from Newfoinland.

Both ships were on their maiden voyage. The most well

to do famous people were on the titan and the Titanic.

Only one third of the passengers on each ship survived.

Both ships had an inadequate number of lifeboats. The amazing

thing is Morgan Robertson wrote his book The Wreck of

the titan in eighteen ninety eight, fourteen years before the Titanic.

Now is that strange or what? Well? The Titanic, though,

is a true story, but sometimes you know it's almost

you have a self fulfilling prophecy. If you watch Star

Trek and you see them using these flip phones to

talk to each other. We all laughed at that back then,

but it became a reality, and there's a lot of

things that we see sometimes. I remember as a kid

watching the Dick Tracy had a watch that was a

walkie talkie. Well that's nothing. Now I can talk to

people around the world with my watch. So you wonder

sometimes if fiction becomes reality and if God was trying

to tell the world something about its pride through the

book of Morgan Robinson. That was the book called The

Wreck of the titan But the Titanic. I was interested

in the Titanic. Years ago. They had a black and

white movie called A Night to Remember that was based

on the Titanic. But for seventy five years, no one

had really found the place where the Titanic sank until

Captain Robert Ballard began to search for the Titanic. People

did not know until the year two thousand. He was

actually on a secret mission for the Navy. People thought

that he had all this special equipment and he had

funding that was just supposed to help him find the Titanic.

Actually he was looking for two US nuclear subs that

had sunk, the Scorpion and the Thresher. And when he

accomplished that mission that I can't talk about, I've got

a sign book from him. He Then they were watching

them cameras. They were dragging a camera thirteen thousand feet

down across the seafloor, looking the cables, looking for these submarines,

and into view came this picture that you see on

the screen, and everybody in the control room yelped because

they had been studying the Titanic very carefully, and they

knew right away that was one of the boilers. They

knew that the rest of the ship would not be

far away because there was a debris field, and they

were correct. Soon as they began to make a circle

in the area of the boiler, they saw the bow

of the Titanic that had not been seen for seventy

five years come into view. And the first crude expedition

went down in nineteen eighty six, Ballard went down. They

had some very specialized equipment. It takes an amazing amount

of technology and sophistication for humans to go down thirteen

thousand feet where the atmospheric pressure is four hundred times

that at the surface, and they went down. They took

several pictures for years afterward. Ballard he regretted that he

did not claim salvage rights. He saw the Titanic as

sort of a sacred artifact. It was like a living

cemetery and a memorial and he thought it should just

be left alone. But based on the seafaring laws, another

company said, look, you have not claimed salvage rights. We

are claiming salvage rights. And a French company ended up

going down several times and pulling different articles and things.

They thought there'd be great treasure there. There was not,

but they did make a lot of money selling everything

from dishes. I have a piece of coal that was

on the Titanic. People know that I've had an interest

in this for years. I was reaching about it before

it was discovered back in nineteen eighty five. And many

of these pictures we are sharing with your courtesy of

National Geographic of the trips they made down to that

famous vessel, since then, of course a movie script was

written that is a combination of truth and fantasy. They

learned more about what caused the wreck after they discovered it.

It was built in Belfast, Ireland about nineteen ten. They

started construction, owned by White Star Lines, built in record time.

Thousands of people were involved, and it had all of

the latest sophistication and technology. Just imagine now if they

had a cruise ship that had all the technology of

the International Space Station. That's what it was like back

then for them. It was the first time they had

a ship that was fully electric. Now the ship was

diesel powered, but I mean they had electricity and all

the rooms hot in cold running water in the rooms.

It was called the Millionaire Special because there were eleven

millionaires that were on the ship, including John Jacob ast

the family that made millions in the fur industry. He perished.

When they recovered his body, they realized that one of

the funnels had fallen upon him, and the last thing

he was reported as saying, is all of my millions

would I give for another chance to live. Molly Brown

was there. She was the Silver Heiress actually they old

she and her husband owned gold mines in Colorado, and

they made movies about her, called the Unsinkable Molly Brown,

because when the Titanic was sinking, her lifeboat had plenty

of seats left. She said, let's go back and pick

up survivors, and the crewmen refused to do it. They

were afraid there'd be too many and they would swamp

the boat. And she rowed, even though she was a millionairess,

she rowed until they were picked up by the carpathium.

It had just all of the most beautiful workmanship in

the boat. They had this central stairclay case that had

inlaid wool and a wood and precious wood and inlaid marble,

and it was kind of gilded from around the world.

I mean, it really was. It was intended to be

the most first class, first class vehicle that had ever

been built. Not only that, it was the biggest and

longest for its age. Here's a black and white original

photograph of what that staircase looked like in the grand ballroom.

And it had a Turkish sauna. It was the first

ship to ever have a swimming pool on board and

a gymnasium. And I mean, now you know, every hotel's

got a health club that was considered pretty far out

back then that you would have an exercise room. They

had a beauty salon and a barber shop and all

these things that they take for granted now on cruise ship.

The Titanic was one of the first that decided to

put all of these beautiful features there. Well. The whole

town gathered to see the ship take off, because the

whole city of Belfast had been involved. It was their

main industry in constructing this, and it was sent off

with a great deal of fanfare. Captain John Smith was

getting ready to retire. They thought they would honor him

by allowing him to make the first voyage, but it

was going to be his final voyage. He had a

beautiful record as a captain. He wanted to break the

record for speed in crossing the Atlantic, which meant he

was tempted to push the envelope of safety. But some

interviewing him said, is it true that this boat is unsinkable?

And he is reported as saying, though they've never found

this clipping, but this is just anecdotal reports. He said,

God himself could not sink this ship. The reason was

the Titanic had sixteen water tight compartments all through the vessel,

so and they could be controlled electronically. So if there

was a puncture in any one of these compartments, they

could isolated and the ship would continue to float. As

many as four of the sections could be punctured, and

theoretically the boat would continue to float and it could

limp back to shore for repairs. And so they thought,

what could possibly go wrong? So there it went, Titanic

was steaming across the ocean, beautiful weather in the Atlantic.

I give you a little amazing fact. You see the

four funnels on the Titanic, the third funnel the last one. Rather,

it was soon play a facade. It didn't do anything.

It was just for looks. The architects said, you know,

it looks like if it's not symmetrical unless we add

another funnel. And so it did absolutely nothing. It was

just there for looks. Another little amazing bit of trivia.

Most people don't know. The Titanic was the only ship

in history that was on fire the entire time it

was in service. When the ship launched, they were still

learning some of the things about electrical work and wiring

and the fuses. One of the electrical closets where the

fuses were caught on fire. They closed the door and

the fire went out. When they opened the door, it

came on again. They closed it. They found a way

to isolate the electric circuits it controlled, and they just

let it burn for the whole time that the ship

was I don't think they'd allow a ship to launch

like that today, But the Titanic had too many people

that had places to go and people to see and

things to do, and some of the most important people

were there. Part of the problem with that is that

the radio operator, Jack Phillips, was getting so many messages. Now,

back then they had a very primitive form of Morse

Code using a Marconi radio where they could tap out messages,

and they were relaying messages through other ships to New

York into England, sending greetings, basically all bragging about, oh

we're here on the maiden voyage of the Titanic. I

have a friend, he's a fisherman, and he knows that

while I'm a vegetarian, I love going out in the

South Island of Hawaii and just fishing, getting out by

myself on the boat with some friends. And whenever he

goes out with his brother. He always manages to call

me and say, hey, Doug, guess where I am. Yeah,

it's pretty rough. I'm out here fishing in the sunshine

on the water. What are you doing. So they were

sending messages trying to brag. Some of them were making

sure their private rail cards would be available for them

when they landed in New York, and so he was

overwhelmed with messages, which contributed to the disaster because, as

this is a picture of Jack Phillips, the wireless operator,

as they were crossing the Atlantic, other ships that were

helping relay messages were able to track the progress of

the Titanic. Titanic was making history among the shipping world.

They all knew about it, and as the Titanic was moving,

they saw how quickly it was moving. Ships that were

going from the west to the east. From New York

and the East coast, they had encountered icebergs. They just

called it ice that had been coming off Newfoundland, and

they said you better be careful and slow down, there's ice.

In fact, Phillips received six messages that there was ice

when they started nearing Newfoundland, and he sent those up

to the bridge. He did his part and Finally, when

the California said, you guys are moving pretty quick. You

need to slow down. There's ice, Phillips radioed back and

he said, will you please shut up? Shut up, I'm

busy because they were stepping on each other as they

were trans transmitting, and it was messing up his messages

and the greetings from the millionaires checking their stocks and

the different things they were doing. The radio operator on

the California was supposed to say stay on duty until

twelve o'clock midnight. It was about eleven thirty, and it

offended him and he said, well, it's pretty quiet. Otherwise,

I'm going to sign off. At eleven forty, they hit

the iceberg and they were calling for help and nobody

was listening. You know, the Bible tells us that if

we turn away our ear from hearing the law, even

our prayer becomes an abomination. The Bible says, if we

do not hear the cry of the poor, someday we

will cry and we will not be heard. And so

they turned off the radio in the California. They were

in the Nearer ship. They could actually see their light

in the distance. It was a perfectly clear night. Now,

one of the problems with traveling across the ocean. If

you've been out at sea at night before, you know

that they've got something called bioluminescence. There's all these little

microscopic creatures, and at night you can sometimes depending on

what ocean you're in, there's different creatures. I went swimming

down in Puerto Rico, where when you dive in the water,

the water just lights up. There's all these there's Karen,

She remembers, Yeah, I kept looking for you over here.

You're on the starboard instead of the port. But we

would dive in the water and we'd see all of

these creatures that would light up. Well, when there's any

kind of tree urbulance in the water, they can help

spot the icebergs at night because it creates a white

line at the base where the waves are striking it.

But the water was so glassy calm that night the

men in the Crow's Nest weren't able to see anything.

And they had also forgotten to bring the binoculars up,

which did actually aid in their vision, and that contributed

to the problem. Frederick Fleet, who was up in the

Crow's Nest with a partner when they finally spotted the

iceberg the shadow of it, and there was a little

bit of moonlight. They shouted down to the bridge, iceberg

dead ahead. When they got the message, it was still

twenty seconds. They did not know what to do. Do

we turn, do we put it in reverse? Do we

turn right? Do we turn left? They didn't know if

there was more than one iceberg. It was twenty seconds

before they responded. Then they made the mistake of stopping

the engines and putting the engines in reverse, which means

as they turned, but the engines and reverse, it did

not affect a turn, which is a mistake that a

seaman ought to know. If you're gonna turn, you want

full power so that your rudder will twist the ship. Well,

Frederick Fleet gave that message iceberg dead ahead, and they

turned too slowly so that they actually did strike the iceberg.

And most of the iceberg, as you know, ninety percent

is below the water line. So when they hit the iceberg,

a big piece of the iceberg that was sticking up

underneath hit the seam of the Titanic below the water

line and began to push in with so much force.

The Titanic was not welded. It was put together with

rivets and the pressure the boat traveling at that speed.

You's like trying to stop a battleship. You've heard that

expression before. It just popped over the rivets and basically

like a zipper is unzipped. An opening that went through

compartment one, two, three, or five six, and water began

to pour in below the water line. People that were

in the ship that were eating and enjoying the meal.

It was late and the captain should have been at

the bridge. This is the most dangerous part of the crossing,

and he knew that, but instead he was hopping hobbing

with the millionaires and they felt a great shutter. They

noticed that there was a change in the engines, that

the engines had reversed. They got so close to the

iceberg the top of it. Some of the iceberg broke

off and landed on the wooden deck. Some teenagers that

were up on the deck saw that and they thought, wow,

this is pretty cool. We're going to have an adventure.

We just hit an iceberg. They didn't understand the danger.

They began to play soccer with a piece of the

ice that had fallen off on top of the deck

and the people. Some people never even woke up during

it because they just felt a shut in the ship,

not realizing what had happened below deck. Well, they stopped

the engines and at that point the captain called Thomas Andrews.

Andrews was the one who designed the ship. He was

an engineer. He brought him up to the bridge. He said,

reports are coming in. We've got water coming in to

holds one, two three. He had didn't have all the

reports all at once, and their first concern was, well,

they thought it's unsinkable. He said, can we save the mail?

See what we can do to save the mail that

was down in the lower holdes. And some men perished

trying to haul these mail bags up the ladder faster

than the water was coming in. There are a lot

of heroes that we never hear about. But then the

reports continued to come in that the water had breached

Hold one, two, three, four five. And what happened is

the weight from the water that was coming through the

watertight compartments as it came in, it pulled the bow down.

They would fill up and it began to spill over

into the other sections of the boat, so gradually it

was going down. It was twenty minutes after they hit

the iceberg, before they sent out the first distress signal. Well,

the radio operator on the Titanic, he started to call

the California back and said, they didn't have SOS save

our souls. They did not have that message at that time.

All of that came out of the Titanic disaster. But

they did have a distress call. And they began to

call their distress call, and the only one that answered

was the Carpathia and maybe some other ships, but they

were too far away to get there. Then the captain said,

let's send up some flares, and they had not this

is their maiden voyage. There was a learning curve. They

had not worked out how to send out the right

flares of the right sequence to give the right signals,

and so they were sending out flares that look they

were exploding. They thought, oh, some people in the distance said, yeah, Titanic,

all the millionaires are celebrating. And they did not understand

they were supposed to send them out every sixty seconds.

It was like every eight minutes. They were sending up

white flares as opposed to red flares. Eventually the captain

gave the order and he said, I forgot to tell

you that. He's talking to Andrews and they're having a

little pow wow with some of the leaders in the bridge,

and the boat is still and some people are eavedropping

and they're saying, what's the status. Andrews is doing this calculating,

and he says the boat's going to sink, and captains throw,

I can't sink. It's unsinkable. I'm telling you the boat's

going to sink. There was a young man traveling with

his mother and his sister and they said, you know

we don't have enough lifeboat boats. Well we'll have to

do women and children first, start with first class. He

heard that. He went back to his room and he

put on his sister's dress and dressed up like woman.

He got in the lifeboat. Now I'm not condoning what

he did. I'm just telling you this is one of

the interesting stories. He did survive. Well, you know, he

was thinking, Nikki gotta give him credit. They had a

real problem getting people to get into the first lifeboats.

The captain had told the band, you know, we don't

want people to be nervous. We don't want anyone to panic.

The captain knew boy. Unless someone shows up in a

big hurry to save us, we're doomed. Because now, the

Titanic was not negligent in only having twenty lifeboats because

these were busy shipping lanes and usually when these boats

started leaking, they were leaking slowly and they had bilge pump,

so it might take a week for a boat to sink,

and so what they would do is another boat would

come alongside, and the lifeboats were supposed to basically ferry

people from one boat to another. The idea of having

enough lifeboats for every single person on board. Nobody was

doing that back then until the Titanic happened. It changed

a lot of rules. So when they were telling people

get into the lifeboats, well, they got music playing. The

servants are still serving and they said, I'm not nice, warm,

bright ship music. You want me to get down in

the dark, cold water. And the crew is now being

instructed to tell everybody to put on their life jackets.

The life jackets back then were not a fashion statement.

They don't look something like they do now where it's soft,

bright orange. They were canvas with balts of wood in it.

That was very uncomfortable. And here You've got all these

millionaires wearing their evening wear, and then some guy comes

up and says, put this on, and there's a nod

on your life. And so they really had a struggle

getting people. They went up and down the hall and

started knocking on the doors, waking people up, saying can

you please come to the top deck. We're having a

problem and we need you to put on your life

jackets and the symbol of the top deck. There's just

a lot of confusion. A lot of people were resistant,

and part of the problem was the music playing gave

everyone the sense that everything was all right, and the

captain told the musicians play something cheerful, because he thought,

if people find out that this boat is going to

sink and the water's thirty degrees and your life expectancy

in the water before you die from hypothermia is about

eight minutes and nobody is coming in time, that there

is going to be a panic, and so he wanted

to keep everyone calming. So the musicians are playing Alexander's

rag Time, and they're playing the popular music of the day,

and people are thinking, oh, isn't this something. Look at

this we hit an iceberg. I wonder what's going to

get into the lifeboat. So what are we going to do?

They did not understand the gravity of the situation. It's

like when Noah built the arc and he pled with people.

They come into the ark and they looked around and

they said, nobody else is getting in the ark. I'm

not getting in the arc. You got this crowd mentality.

Sometimes people wait till the last minute. You know, Jesus

call comes out and he says, I know, you've got

all these people in this big church over here, and

your family and everybody's in this big church. And they

got the better building and it's warm, and they got

the music. But I want you to get in the lifeboat.

It's really hard to convince people to get into the

little lifeboat at a time like that. Now you notice

in the middle of the picture that's on your screen.

There is a musician there. His name is Wallace Henry Hartley.

Interesting story. Just before the Titanic proposed to Maria, she accepted,

they picked the date for their marriage, and then he

got this invitation to be part of the band on

the Titanic and they were wavering. She said, you know,

we'll have to postpone our wedding, and he said, you know,

it's pays very well. It'll give us a nice nest

take to start our life together. I think I should

do it. She agreed. She said you should do it.

She gave him a brand new violin. He was an

excellent violin musician. Well. He continued playing up until the

boat began to list very seriously, and finally the captain

came along, and now people are getting in the lifeboat.

As a matter of fact, the last few lifeboats they

waited so long to launch them. Some of them capsized

because they waited too long. The first lifeboats that went

out were only fifty percent or fifty five percent full.

There were four hundred empty seats in the lifeboats that

did launch, because people just did not understand the danger

that they were in. Wallace Hartley, the captain came by,

and he realized that things were getting more serious. He said,

maybe you should play a hymn, and he looked at

the other musicians. He said, near my God to thee,

And all of a sudden they went from playing contemporary

music of the time to playing hymns now people are

getting in the lifeboats, and some were struggling to convince.

You've probably heard the story of Isidor Strauss and his wife,

one of the founders of Macy's. They were on the

ship and he told her she was in first class.

He said, you need to get one of the lifeboats,

and she said, I'm married to you fifty years. She said,

if you're gonna die, I'm not leaving you now. And

they stayed together when they recovered the bodies, not going

to go back and forth in the story a little bit,

because you just have to do that to get the

whole story. When they recovered the bodies, they found this

one body that had a violin case strapped to it,

and in the violin case was a violin. Well, it

was the violin that Maria had given to Wallace, and

it was engraved in commemoration of our engagement, a little

brass plaque that you see there on the stub. Well,

she actually had to fight with the people that recovered

everything to get the violin case back, and she got it,

and somehow when she died, she gave it to her sister,

didn't appreciate the value, ended up going to another relative

to finally realize this is the violin that Wallace survived with,

and they still had the case from the Titanic. Well,

it was auctioned a couple of times in the last

few years. They authenticated it and it sold the last

time for one point seven million dollars, sold for more

than a stratavarius. Even though it was cracked in two places.

It could probably be restored, but they figure it's worth more,

and it's at a museum there in Belfast. Well, they

sent up their flares and the water got higher and

higher in the ship. There were three clergymen that were

on the There may have been more, but I know

of at least there was a Hebrew rabbi, a Catholic priest,

a Protestant minister named John Harper, and they all gave

away their life jackets. There may have been enough life jackets,

but people misplaced them for whatever reason. People didn't realize

the need of it till the last minute, and so

so you know, that's a commendable part of the story.

The lifeboats that did have people rowed away because they

all were afraid, first of all, that the ship going

down would create suction and that people might get pulled down.

They also knew there were going to be a way

too many people and not enough room, and that if

too many people tried to climb into the lifeboats, they

would swamp the boats and everybody would drown or die

from hypothermia. So there's only a handful of people that survived. Eventually,

the bow became so heavy that the boat went down

and they saw the back half of it cracked in

two because you just had so much stress, all the

weight in the bottom. The top went down, the back

was there, and then the boat snapped into it settled

for a minute, and then the top continuing to sink

with all the cables and the gear attached pulled it down.

The lights stayed on until the boat disappeared, which is

something of a mystery, but they had sealed all of

the twelve lights so carefully that somehow the generators had

kept going or the battery backup. But everyone said the

lights didn't flicker and go off until most of the

ship had submerged and the water came pouring in, and

there are a lot of explosions from the pressure around

the boilers, and people began to bomb to the surface.

There was one man a Scotsman who he heard the

boat was going to sink, and he remembered stories about

the Saint Bernards that would bring brandy to people that

were freezing, and it wouldn't supposedly help you recover quicker.

So he went to the bar. Again, I'm not recommending this,

I'm just telling you the story. So he went to

the bar and he slurped down a good dose of

whiskey to thin out his blood, and he jumped over

and swam away from the vessel. He was one that

was recovered alive, one of only six that were recovered live. Yeah,

so don't use that as an excuse, just telling to

the story. So when the bone sank, like I said,

some of the people, like Molly Brown, they said, we

need to go back and get survivors. They waited so

long that most of the people died of hypothermia, and

they were only able to pull about six survivors from

the water. This scotsman was one of the people. This

is actually a photograph you can see that was taken

from the Carpathia when it came. It was the first

ship on site that began to rescue some of the

survivors from the Titanic, and they brought them up on deck.

Out of two thy two hundred approximately passages on board,

fifteen hundred perished, and about four hundred of them didn't

need to perish. Indeed, a lot of them could have

been saved if they had just gotten in the lifeboats,

or if they had not ignored the warnings that had

been given. You know, God gives us signs along the

way when we're near the end. They had received message

after message that there was ice, and they wanted to

break the record crossing the Atlantic, and they ignored the

messages and just plowed on. You know, what Jesus tells

us about the last days is said, beware lest your

heart be overcharged with eating, nothing wrong with that, and

drinking and the cares of this life, lest that day

overtake you as a thief. People were so preoccupied with

their immediate pleasures they were distracted. Now, the Titanic was

one of three sister ships that was built by White

Star Lines that had the Britannic, the Olympic, and the Titanic.

Another amazing story, there was a nurse named Violet Jessip

who was on the Tipe when this struck the light

of the iceberg. She woke up, but she immediately went

into duty. And you'll see snippets of her in the

films that were made of Violet trying to put babies

in the lifeboats and helping people find their way up

the stairs and doing all she could do was acoman

to rescue people. She was among the ones. Someone gave

her a baby and said, we can't find the mother.

Get into the lifeboat. She got into the lifeboat, and

she survived the sinking of the Titanic. But what's amazing

is she also had a job on the Olympic. And

she was on the Olympic when it was struck by

a naval ship called the Hawk, and she survived that.

But wait is more. The Britannic was converted to a

hospital ship during World War One and Violet Jessup was

working as a nurse on the Britannic and it struck

a mine and it began to sink, and she said,

I went back to my room to get my toothbrush,

because I remember, after the Titanic and the Olympic, the

thing I missed the most from losing all of my

personal possessions was my toothbrush. It's a true story. She

went back to get her toothbrush. She jumped overboard at

the last minute, and the sinking of the Britannic hit

her in the head. The hull actually hit her in

the head, but she had very thick auburn hair, or

she said, she's certain that it would have knocked her out.

She survived. Christian which means that a thousand may fall

at your side and ten thousand at your right hand.

Only with your eyes will you see and behold the

destruction of the wicked. You know, people say be careful

about going here or going there, it could be dangerous.

There's a quote from the book The Hiding Place is

a wonderful quote. It says, the middle of God's will

is the safest place in the world world. If you

are in the middle of God's will, it doesn't matter

if you're, you know, in the middle of a battle,

if you're in the middle of God's will. Some of

you know the story of Desmond DAWs. He was a

friend of ours because his second wife lived in a church.

We passed it in northern California, and he just surrounded

by people dying on every side. But the Angel of

the Lord encamps around about those that fear him, and

he protects him. I meet people all the time, Pastor Doug,

when do you think the plagues are gonna come in

the tribulation? I think I'm not worried about the place

of the tribulation. I really am not. I'm worried. Is

Doug in the middle of God's will? Because if I

am in the middle of God's will as what was

his name, George now Whitfield, Yeah, George Whitfield. He used

to say, I am immortal until my work is done.

If you're in the middle of God God's will, Violem

Jessop survived. Another interesting little vignette from the Titanic is

there was a famous Scottish evangelist. His name was John Harper.

He was called by D. L. Moody. You all know

the name D. L. Moody, one of the greatest American evangelists.

He started out as a shoe salesman, became a great evangelists,

caused revivals in England and in the US. He met

John Harper in England. He invited John Harper to come

and speak at the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. Moody

was traveling with his sister, his daughter, and his sister's daughter.

And when it became clear that the boat was going

to sink and there weren't enough lifeboats and there were

not enough life jackets, he gave away his life jacket.

And witnesses say they saw John Harper going from one

passenger to another, and he said, do you believe in

Jesus Christ? And then he would quote the shortest verse

he could think of from Acts sixteen, where Paul All said,

believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved.

And he was going from person to person pleading. He

wasn't thinking about his own life. He was thinking people

were getting ready to enter eternity unprepared, and he was

driven to prepare as many as you could. So while

the Titanic was sinking, they were playing that song called

Nearer my God to Thee, Nearer to Thee, and it

became very famous, and in churches around the world everyone recounted.

You know, after the Titanic, how many of you remember

where you were in nineteen eighty six when the Challenger

blew up, Or do you remember where you were the

older ones when Kennedy was shot, or do you remember

where you were at nine to eleven. Everybody when they

got the word about the Titanic. I actually have a

newspaper clipping about the Titanic sinking, and I bought it

on my honeymoon with Karen, which was on a cruise ship.

And I could never figure out why a cruise ship

would be selling a copy of the Titanic sinking. That's

kind of like showing a nine to eleven movie on

an airplane. I mean, I just I couldn't understand anyway.

But so everyone was telling stories about the Titanic and

the story about John Harper going from person to person

and saving others. All the pastors were using that illustration

at that time. And so in Canada, this pastor of

a Protestant church was talking about the last thing John

Harper did was he was leading people to Christ on

the deck of the Titanic, and an old scotsman stood

up in the church and said, that's not entirely true.

He said, I was on the Titanic. Let me tell

you what happened. He said, before the ship sank, I

went to the bar and I took a heavy slug

of whiskey to try to fin out my blood and

I jumped overboard, and he said, these oak deck chairs

floated to the surface. The Titanic had all of these

deck chairs that were made of oak. They didn't provide

a lot of buoyancy, but they did float. The water

was terribly cold, he said, right after its saying, people

began to bomb to the surface, some swimming, some wearing

these life jackets, and all began to cry and to

scream and to pray. And he said mothers were calling

for their children, and husbands were screaming and calling for

their wives. And he said, when you first go in

the water, you fill the chill. He said, then it

gets so cold. He says, you feel like you're burning.

And he said, I thought I was in hell. And

he said, I heard all this screaming around me, and

there were no lifeboats, and everybody's dying, and they're all clawing,

and they're all splashing. And the water was calm, and

so the voices were carrying. And he said, but even

though the water was calm, the ocean always has a swell.

If you've ever been on or lived on the sea,

even on a calm swee see, like you know, every

minute or so, there'll be a big rolling swell that

will come in. And he said, I was clinging to

a deck chair and someone else came over and took

a hold of my deck chair. He said it was

John Harper and he said to me, man, are you saved?

And he said, I don't know. He said, believe in

the Lord Jesus Christ and you'll be saved. He said,

then another swell came and he lost his grip because

he was beginning to shake violently. And he said, then

another swell came and he came back. He said, are

you saved yet? He said, I don't know. You know

he's in shock. He said, believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Voice was cracking and he said. Then he lost consciousness

and he sank below the surface. And the Scotsman telling

the people in this Canadian church, he said, I was

John Harper's last concert. He said, there was a thirteen

thousand feet of water blow me. I asked Jesus into

my heart and he could do it. Then there with

a man that's half drunk and it's stuck, he can

reach you. Some of you heard not too long ago

a man named Stockton Rush. He wanted to create tourism.

His real goal was he wanted to become an astronaut,

but his vision was not good. So he said, well,

I'm going to go to the other unexplored region. I'm

going to take people on tours to the lowest parts

of the ocean. And he tried to build a spacecraft

or an ocean craft rather called it was called ocean Gate,

and he built one called the Titan of all Things,

named after the same ship of Morgan Robertson's boat, and

he got millionaires to sign up. Indeed, they were a

billionaires to go on this craft, and he was trying

to because he was running out of sponsor money. He

was rushing the process and they were sidestepping safety checks

on the equipment. Finally said, I've got to take a

trip and show this thing works or my business is

going to fail. And he took five passengers down in

the ship and they were in regular communication with the

surface until they got to I think it was like

twelve hundred feet and then they lost contact. He had

used a titanium combined with carbon fiber, and the problem

was the way that carbon fiber condenses at that incredible

pressure was different than the speed of the titanium and

it created a seam and the boat imploded and they

all died instantly, and they you know, there's a big

search for them because there were billionaires on the ship.

Two hundred and fifty thousand dollars they paid. One man

paid for himself and his son half a million dollars

for a trip to the Titanic, and it is still

claiming lives today. When the story of the Titanic first

hit the streets, there's all kinds of bad stories because

it was coming back to telegraph. They said, the Titanic

is injured, but everybody's okay, it's coming back. Others said

everybody perished. There's a lot of misinformation because of the

wireless and the way the reporters used to try to

outdo one another. But finally, when they realized that the

Titanic did sink, survivors showed up and said, everybody's gone.

We've only got seven hundred survivors out of two hundred

two thousand, two hundred people. The grief was hard to explain.

So many people, most of them in third class, perished.

The workers that helped build the Titanic. Now I didn't

show you the picture, but Karen and I were in Belfast.

We went to the Titanic Museum a couple of years

ago in Ireland, and it's very visceral when you go

through the museum and see all the artifacts and the

things that are there. They wanted to honor they couldn't

take all the workers, there were thousands of them. Sixteen

workers were honored and they were able to go out

and participate in the Maiden voyage. Word reached Belfast that

all sixteen of those workers had died in the sinking

of the ship, and they all went to the same church.

You realize you've got your Protestants and you've got your Catholics.

And Northern Ireland separated from Southern Ireland because of this

big battle between the Protestants and the Catholics. So in

Northern Ireland they all belonged to the same Protestant church.

They had pre arranged for American minister who had come

specifically to speak of that church. They didn't want to

cancel because of his travel arrangements. They said, just be aware,

you're going to be talking to the families where we

have a church that is filled with new widows and orphans.

And the pastor picked as his sermon title the Unsinkable Ship.

And some people who read the sermon title in the

bullet and they said, oh, that is bad taste. He's

going to talk about the Titanic. But as he commenced

with his sermon, they realized he wasn't talking about the Titanic.

He was talking about a little moss covered fishing vessel

in the middle of the Sea of Galilee that was

swamped with waves and beaten by wind. But the ship

was unsinkable because Jesus was in the boat. That is

the only unsinkable ship. Friends, Now do you know we're

all terminal. Life does not consist in the abundance of

things you possess. The most important thing is that you

have a relationship with Jesus. And I don't know. Is

Jesus the captain of your vessel? Is he the lord

of your life? Is he your king? I wonder if

you do me a favor. I want to have a

closing prayer with you. But before I do, this is

our last presentation together. Will you stand where you are please?

There may be some here who are in this place,

and you have not yet surrendered your life to Jesus.

The only unsinkable ship is when you're in the middle

of his will, and when Christ is the captain of

your vessel. If before we have closing prayer, you'd like

to say, I want to make Jesus the middle of

my life. I want him to be my captain, and

I'm willing to surrender my life, take up my cross

and follow him. If you do that, you have perfect

peace no matter what happens. You can survive any storm.

If Jesus is in your boat. Friends, and before we pray,

I would invite you some of you maybe haven't made

that decision before, You've never been baptized, you've never accepted Christ.

I'd invite you to come to the front as the

girls play, and I want to and have special prayer

with you. Just come right now. There may be some

don't worry about the people here. Everybody here is a sinner.

We're all terminal. The angels are watching. But if there

are some of you here and you say you know,

I'd like to make that decision. There might be some

young people here you've not yet decided to be baptized.

Come to the front. I want to pray with you.

I invite people to come publicly because Jesus died for

you publicly. Don't worry about what people think. There may

be some of you here that you know that you

haven't surrounded your life. You've been maybe trying to live

in two worlds, live in this world and still be

a Christian. You can't love both worlds, and you want

to put Jesus first. Come now, Praise the Lord. Thank you,

Thank you for your courage acumen. Stay right, you can

stay sorry. You can see right there. The steps are

actually facade. You can't trust them. So just come to

the front. You're on the carpet, and I want to

have prayer with you. Praise the Lord. I see some

others coming. If God is speaking to you, maybe there

are people in your way, you tell them to move.

You want to come up. You just come to the front.

This is between you and Jesus. Praise the Lord. Some

of you maybe went to church when you're young. You've

drift away, you become preoccupied with the world, and you

want to return to the Lord. This is a good time.

Right now. He's speaking to your heart. Say the Lord,

I want to make you the Lord of my life.

No matter what your situation. He will accept you just

as I am without one plea. You come just like

you are. Come. Sometimes people say, pastor, I'm feeling a battle.

That's a battle between your Jesus and your devil. And

you have the time breaking vote. You can come. Come

closer for those behind you. Don't be afraid. I don't bite.

Come on anyone else. Before we close with prayer together.

Feeling that God speaking to your heart, you want to

make that decision to fully surrender your life to Jesus.

Maybe some sin you're battling with, you want to turn

that over to him. Say Lord, set me free. I'm

coming now. Just like I am. Saved me, he can

save you. Come. Don't worry about tomorrow, come to him today.

If Jesus is in your boat, your ship is unsinkable.

Praise the Lord. I still see people come and praise God. Come,

come on the back. We'll wait for you. You can come, amen.

Can you say? Praise the Lord? And I hope all

God's people are praying right now because you know some

people are making decisions now that will have eternal consequences. Okay,

let's pray together. Father in heaven. We thank you that

you can speak to us even from these stories in

history there are lessons that relate to the Gospel, and

we all want to be near to you, Dear Lord.

We know that this world is facing a storm, and

that the only safe way of escape is to know

that we are abiding under the shadow of your wings.

I pray that each person here will know that Jesus

is the center of their lives, that they're building their

lives around, serving Him, knowing him, loving him, and serving

their fellow man. Help us to seek first to your kingdom.

I pray your special blessing on those who have come forward, Lord,

that they can get a new beginning with you, your

peace and your joy, knowing their sins can be washed

away because of Jesus and that you can save them.

And I pray Lord, you'll continue to bless this church

its influence in the community. The pastors here, the leaders,

and the staff pour out your spirit on them. Thank

you so much for the promise that if we come

to Christ just as we are, He will embrace us,

receive us, and we can hear him say, verily, I

see to you today. You will be with me in paradise. Lord,

if there any listening right now, we still don't have

that assurance. I pray they'll come even now and respond

to your voice. Now they might have that peace. So

bless us, Thank you for the Sabbath day, thank you

for the way you've blessed through this entire prophecy countdown seminar,

and we just want to give you the glory and Lord,

we just can hear the angels saying, because of these decisions,

be with each of these people. We ask this now,

we pray it all, believe it in Jesus's name. God,

bless you Grave God, Amen, thank you in behalf of

amazing facts in our team and the Crowley Church. We

know we have many visitors. We want to thank everybody

that's both helped and participated in making this seminar success

to the glory of God. God, bless you. Thank you
